Another ancient trope with deep seated issues. The trope refers to the Japanese Shishi-Odoshi, or deer scare, which typically symbolizes traditional, rich Japanese families living in a Big Fancy House. This would be fine if the examples actually fit. Thing is, as shown by The Wick Check That Goes Doink, it almost never does, and I had to classify over half as ZC Es, with the rest of varying relevance, including one example where the fountain is noted as absent (which seems unnotable in and of itself).

Honestly, with how bad it is, I'm thinking a cut and yard is the best option here. It's deeply troubled, and I'm not sure a rewrite and clean will be good enough. Alternatively, if we want to keep the inbounds, we could turn it into a useful noteor merge it into UsefulNotes.Japanese Architecture.

  • ("Friends" Rent Control) The Tendo Dojo in Ranma ½ is a traditional Japanese compound with four bedrooms, two guestrooms, a large tearoom, and a large freestanding dojo, all surrounded by a an expansive walled garden including The Thing That Goes Doink. It's all a bit much for a self-employed martial artist supporting three daughters and three freeloaders. While it's reasonable to assume that a traditional dojo would have rooms to house students, Mr. Tendo doesn't appear to have any students, other than Akane (daughter) and Ranma (freeloader).
  • (Zombie Land Saga) The Thing That Goes Doink: Episode 10, around 15:30, shows a shishi-odoshi as Yugiri invokes a more historic feel while talking to Kotaro.
  • (Full Metal Panic! Jindai High) Big Fancy House: Her house is a traditional Japanese mansion, fitting as it also function as Yakuza headquarter. Come with a requisite The Thing That Goes Doink.

They move as the shishi-odoshi empties and sounds. By the time it fills from the rain and empties to sound again, Goemon has disarmed the entire gang, save the leader's son.

  • (Touhou - Other Official Works) Big Fancy House: Forbidden Scrollery shows that she lives in one of these, complete with The Thing That Goes Doink. Akyuu just thinks the whole place is old and outdated.
  • (Blend-S) The Thing That Goes Doink: A shishi-odoshi is frequently seen and heard at Maika's home, to let you know that she was brought up in a traditional Japanese home with some serious cash.

It's got 16k inbounds. Maybe merging into UN/JA is best? At what point is something deemed "best not to cut it"?

I'll second incorporating it into Japanese Architecture.

Edit: A disambiguation can also work.

Retracting vote for cut/yard because I missed the inbound count. I don't mind merging with Japanese Architecture but the name doesn't work as a redirect to me. It's non-indicative so I don't think it's going to be useful as in that regard.

Maybe we can turn The Thing That Goes Doink into a disambig between Japanese Architecture and Big Fancy House? Some of the redirects can be given to the former.

As for the merge, the UN page already notes The Thing That Goes Doink at the end and I don't think we need to go in detail. We can probably just move the second paragraph over at most as the article is long enough as it is.

[up]I am up for Merge

Furthermore, I really don't see, why showing a Shishi-Odoshi alone is tropeworthy itself. Possibly, we can think of a trope like a trope like "This thing, which only rich people has", but even then, this should be not special for Shishi-Odoshi.

I hooked a crowner for whether to merge with UsefulNotes.Japanese Architecture and disambiguate the old name.

Calling in favor of merging the information on the shishi-odoshi with UsefulNotes.Japanese Architecture and disambiguate The Thing That Goes Doink between UsefulNotes.Japanese Architecture and Big Fancy House.

OK, the page has been disambiguated, and as Macron suggested, the second paragraph was moved to UsefulNotes.Japanese Architecture.

Here are the wicks. Not as many as I thought.

Edit: Dewicked Main/. Generally, replacing the wicks with "shishi-odoshi" in plain text was enough, sometimes with a pothole to UsefulNotes.Japanese Architecture.
