Original post:

So, Meganekko has been misused for "any girl with glasses" for years now. There has been at least one TRS thread about this issue but it closed without a resolution.

Here’s a wick check that me and Orbiting did for Meganekko.

    open/close all folders

Correct/Cute Glasses wearing Girl with a Sweet personality

  1. Characters.Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation: She's the soft-spoken, cute, glasses-wearing maid (later second wife) of the household.
  2. Anime.Waiting In The Summer: Ichika and Nanami are sweet, glasses-wearing girls.
  3. Science Hero's Babe Assistant: Chitose is the clumsy Meganekko assistant.

Just A Girl With Glasses/ZC Es
  1. Anime.Macross Frontier:Nanase
  2. Characters.Cavalier Of The Abyss: Just the trope name.
  3. Characters.Stand And Deliver: Just the trope name.
  4. Recap.ALZI Production Batgirl: Veronika.
  5. YMMV.Metal Slug: ZCE pothole
  6. Characters.Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Villains: Mimi, as "Mari".
  7. Beginner's Luck: First, in the team tourney, she slams Kiyosumi's Mako with a Suuankou (4 concealed triples, a rare Yakuman hand worth max points).
  8. Characters.Violinist Of Hameln
  9. VideoGame.Zone Of The Enders: Dr. Rachel Links and Robin O'Connell.
  10. Characters.Sequential Art
  11. Manga.Lucu Lucu: Shiki Tohn—Harry Pott—I mean, Rokumon.
  12. Manga.Happy Lesson: Fumitsuki and Mutsuki at the house. Kanna as well.
  13. FanficRecs.Ah My Goddess: This results in our Heroines entering a Forced Prize Fight of Calvinball. Also, Hasegawa apparently Took a Level in Badass by reading The Zombie Survival Guide and is now a Badass Bookworm Meganekko Wrench Wench.
  14. Characters.Valkyria Chronicles III
  15. Characters.Dreams Of Death
  16. Webcomic. So What Im Still A Monster: Destiny, Savina, Bridgit, and Naomi.
  17. Manga.Bungo Stray Dogs: Louisa May Alcott.
  18. Characters.Inazuma Eleven Supporting Characters: In GO.
  19. Characters.Shirobako Musashino Animation Various Departments: Commented out ZCE that’s just the trope name.
  20. GameBreaker.Trails Series: With speed around 125, Diabolos Gem and Cast 2 quartz (both have casting delay reduction effect), you'll officially turn out cutie Meganekko into badass Fireball spammer burning everything in sight.
  21. Characters.Ghost Hound: Just the trope name.
  22. Sandbox.Dangan Ronpa Danketsu: Just the trope name.
  23. Characters.Randy Cunningham Ninth Grade Ninja Faculty Adults: Just the trope name.
  24. Kämpfer: Akane’s normal mode.
  25. Characters.Corpse Princess: Just the trope name.
  26. Recap.Leverage S 01 E 05 The Bank Shot Job: Sophie goes for this look as part of her cover.
  27. Series.Dream High: Baekhee and Pilsook, although Baekhee quickly loses hers.
  28. Anime.Hamtaro: Kana. Also, Dexter (well, they're marks on his fur that look like glasses, anyway...)
  29. Manga.Wakaba Girl: Nao.
  30. Characters.Alan Wake: Goes great with her lab coat and Little Black Dress.
  31. Characters.Arknights Vanguards A To M: She wears glasses in her alternate costume.
  32. Characters.Dead Or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation: The only character who wears glasses by default.
  33. Characters. The Magic Roundabout: In the post-2005 era, Coral now wears glasses as part of her redesign
  34. Characters. The Powerpuff Girls The Heroes: When she gained glasses in "Bubblevision".
  35. Characters.Cardfight Vanguard V Series Anime: She wears glasses.
  36. Characters. The Quintessential Quintuplets: Wears glasses while in class and when studying. Her vision doesn't seem to be as bad as Nino's since she doesn't wear them otherwise, hinting that she's most likely just nearsighted and needs them to read print. As an adult, however, she appears to wear them full-time.
  37. Characters.Inazuma Eleven Managers: She usually wears her glasses on her head, but sometimes she wears them normally.
  38. Characters.Hololive Japan Generation Three Fantasy: Implied, since Pekora wears glasses.
  39. Characters.Grim Tales From Down Below: Uses glasses while reading or looking information on internet.
  40. Characters.El Chavo Del Ocho: Wears horn-rimmed eyeglasses.
  41. Manga.I Dont Like You At All Big Brother: Iroha, when she's not sporting her twintails.
  42. Anime.Mon Colle Knights: Guuko
  43. Anime Accent Absence: A strange example is Ana from Strawberry Marshmallow, a young British immigrant who is linguistically and socially more Japanese. Here the trope is justified, as she's more or less forgotten any English, and has to learn it from the show's (Japanese) glasses girl. Naturally, Ana speaks in a slower, formal tone, which coincidentally fits her being the gang's equivalent to The Ojou.
  44. Characters.Danganronpa 3 Despair Arc: Wears glasses with thin frames.
  45. Characters.Corpse Party: Wears square, black-rimmed glasses.
  46. Characters.Estoy Vivo:Sports big glasses.
  47. Manga.Yubisaki Milk Tea: Kurokawa, again. Sometimes, particularly when she's studying in later chapters, Hidari also wears glasses.
  48. Series.Yo Soy Betty La Fea: Betty's makeover transforms her into this archetype.
  49. Theatre.Firebringer: Emberly

    Other misuse
  1. Western Animation.Grossology: Petunia Archer (Season 2) and Naomi are both shy-natured girls who are treated as quite pretty, glasses and all. Says nothing about them being kind/sweet
  2. Characters.Mr Bean: She wears glasses and looks attractive. Nothing about her personality is mentioned.
  3. Characters.Bonkers: Wears big, round glasses and is a major cutie. The character seems to fit the trope judging by the surrounding trope entries but the example doesn’t say anything about her personality
  4. Characters.Fate VRAINS Allies: Her glasses actually have scanner functions, and by god does she make them work.Googles Do Something Unusual
  5. Manga.Uzaki Chan Wants To Hang Out: Basically every random female store attendant in the series is one, along with being quite bosomy. Ami's also quite attractive and pretty much always wearing glasses, but her cuteness is more debatable with her rampant relishing in Eating the Eye Candy. Personality is not mentioned
  6. All Guys Want Cheerleaders: In "You Belong with Me," Taylor Swift just knows that she can't compete with her crush's girlfriend, who is of course cheer captain. Although according the video she can because she's Taylor Swift and looks freaking gorgeous including with the glasses it's idealistic. Personality is not mentioned
  7. Characters.Zits: She normally wears contacts, but in one strip had to wear her glasses. Jeremy was visibly into it. Personality is not mentioned
  8. WesternAnimation.Groj Band: Mina is very cute and wears large spectacles. Personality is not mentioned
  9. WebOriginal.Vividly ASMR: Annabelle in "C-Can I Sit Here...? The Girl on My Train is a Shy Megane! is a shy but sweet glasses wearing girl. Attractiveness isn't mentioned.

    Miscellaneous
  1. JustForFun.Trope Title Shows: A documentary on cats, including the various roles, and ways they have affected mankind throughout history. JFF page
  2. Pantheon.Anti Heroes: Sheele: Apologetic Killer, Anime Chinese Girl, Badass Adorable, Meganekko, Purple Hair and Eyes, Cute Clumsy Girl, Parental Abandonment, Big-Ass Scissors Pantheon page

The only solution I can come up with to fix the issue would be to turn Meganekko into a Fanspeak page and then spin off Cute Glasses Girl / Sweet Glasses Girl into it’s own trope (similar to what we did with Kuudere and Sugar-and-Ice Personality).

Let's turn it into a Fan Speak page. Its Spear Counterpart, Megane, already is a Fan Speak page.

We can also spin off Meaningful Appearance tropes if we have enough examples.

As a side note, I didn't know until now that Megane was a Fan Speak page because I've seen it on character pages a lot and upon checking it has 800+ wicks. Is there a Fan Speak wick removal thread anywhere?

Not all those wicks need to be looked at; the 'priority' checks for that would be Characters/ and work namespaces, since Fan Speak terms are only forbidden from being bulleted examples.

Cute Glasses Girl works as a name, but why is Cute Glasses Boy a redirect? I thought this was an Always Female trope. The description for Meganekko even says boys with glasses are covered by Megane.

Well, Megane itself says that shy boys with glasses can be folded under Meganekko for convenience sake so there’s that I guess.

Personally, I don’t see an issue with having a unisex trope for "cute/sweet person with glasses" but I don’t have any good names for it.

Fair enough. I was just checking since I didn't think to look in Megane's description for that part since the redirect is for Meganekko.

And yeah, I think the suggested spinoff trope can be unisex with Cute Glasses Boy as a redirect.

[up]Maybe Cute And Bespectacled or Bespectacled And Cute if we want to make it clear that it's about the character wearing the glasses.

Edit: This was originally in response to a now-deleted part about naming the trope Glasses Are Cute to make the name gender-neutral. I'm still leaving the original text of this post here.

Not sure if there's actual overlap.
