Fairy May Cry

Vergil Arc

• In the first few chapters, Dante meets motion sickness-laden Natsu and his hotheadedness, Gray's stripping habit, as well as Lucy Butt-Monkey status. And when he's about to join Fairy Tail he experiences some Fairy Tail craziness, like Juvia's love over heals for Gray, Elfman's real man talk, acting like a gentleman to Mirajane Strauss, and when the entire guild hall gets into a brawl with Gramps comically crying for all of this, Dante asks Mira whether this happened a lot and Mira says it does. Instead of being freaked out, Dante has this to say.
  Dante: [smirking] I'm gonna love this place.
• Ch. 5 Settling In:
  • Dante joins Natsu, Happy, and Gray breaking into Lucy's apartment with Dante saying that he is her new neighbor. While he offers to let them come over whenever they want, he agrees to Natsu's suggestion of breaking into her apartment later.
    Natsu: Do we get to raid Lucy's apartment later on?
    Lucy: DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!
    Dante: You're right. It is funny to see her pissed off.
    Happy: Told ya.
  • Everyone in the guildhall eyes up Lady for one reason or another, being wary of the amount of firearms on her. Cue Mira simply saying 'Hello', completely ignoring the small arsenal on her back, causing everyone watching to face vault.
  • Despite having been there before, and the flyer saying the job was on a mountain, Lucy forgot to dress for the cold weather, being forced to summon Horolochium, which Dante teases her over. Then there's her comical shock at hearing the mission involves facing actual danger, somehow missing why it would require the likes of Natsu and Dante.
  • Dante is excited at finding a white wyvern, even saying they hit the jackpot. Gray clarifies that wyvern scales are worth plenty of money, causing Natsu to tell the thing they're going to take its food and skin it in an happy tone, causing it to sweat-drop.
  • From the same scene, while Lucy panics at seeing over thirty Vulcans approaching with sinister grins, the guys are excited at getting a good workout. Rather than participate in the ensuing violence, Lucy hides behind a rock, bemoaning her current companions recklessness.
    Lucy(comical tears): One of these days, this guild is gonna kill me.
  • When Wendy calls Dante a 'great person', Lady thinks it's weird to hear 'Dante' and 'great' in the same sentence. Not to mention, her Spit Take upon Mira asking if he is her boyfriend, insisting he simply owes her money. When Happy tries his usual 'You liiiiike him', she intimidates him with a Death Glare accompanied by a rant about Dante's many personality flaws, which render her incapable of seeing him that way.
  • After deflecting Natsu's attempt at fighting her (via boot to the face), she is surprised when Dante actually pays her back with the money from the job. Making it funnier, is that the 35000 jewels he earned apparently only covers 20% of his debt to her, prompting an incredulous Lucy to ask what he did to owe her that much money.
• Ch. 6 Lightning Storm
  • Dante's first scene in the chapter is having a drinking contest with Cana, who is obviously much more drunk than he is. After the final round he looks up to find her wearing her mug as a crown and gives the following drunken speech.
    Cana: Hey! Where'd that red sword *hiccup* go? You know? I *hiccup* freaking love you guys! *hiccup* Grandma is that you? (collapses)
  • Erza comes to ask Dante if he knows any demons that fit the description of the one she fought, blonde woman who wields a sword, guns and lightning. After she leaves, Happy jokingly suggests that a blonde demon could fit Lucy, who irritably points out she has never used or sword, guns, nor does she have lightning powers.
  • Just how casually Dante anticipates Natsu's sneak attack, complete with a countdown. When the Dragon Slayer leaps at him with a flaming fist, he simply catches him by his wrist before nonchalantly tossing him through the wall on the other side of the guildhall.
  • Pretty much all of the banter between Dante and Trish, especially the latter picking on his eating habits. An increasingly annoyed Erza's reaction to the whole thing really sells it, and when accused of being jealous, mumbles she already has someone.
• Ch. 7 Vergil
  • Trish quickly adapts to Fairy Tail's weirdness, shocking Happy (complete with giving him poofy fur) when he pulls his 'You liiike him' in regards to her and Dante, snarking at Gray's stripping habit, and deals with Natsu's demand for a fight by nonchalantly blasting him with lightning. The others remark it's Laxus all over again.
  • When the others go to follow Natsu (who has gone to challenge Dante to a rematch) in the rain, a worried Carla refuses to let Wendy go, saying she could catch a cold. In a darkly ironic case, she says the following as Dante and Vergil have their first clash in the story.
    Wendy: I just wanted to help.
    Carla: I don't see a reason why you need to, it's not as if this is life-or-death.
  • When the others see the wrecked forest from Dante and Vergil's fight, they are shocked to hear their friend is fighting one opponent. Amidst the others going towards the site of the battle, Lucy attempts to retreat, only for Happy to pick her up and bring her along anyway, to her displeasure.
• Ch. 8 Family History: While Dante is explaining his backstory, as well as his feud with Vergil, he casually reveals that Sparda is his father, causing everyone (including Makarov) let out a Big "WHAT?!" in surprise.
• Ch 9 Clipping the Fairies' Wings: While Dante is training in the woods, an annoyed Porlyusica shows up and tells him not to cause a ruckus near her house, adding that if he wants to cause destruction he can do so at the guildhall.
• Ch 10 More Fairies Fall: At the start of the Thunder Legion's confrontation with Vergil, Evergreen comments he's not bad looking, prompting a look from her teammates.
• Ch 11 Satan Soul vs. Devil Trigger
  • The typically stoic Vergil is genuinely confused by Elfman's "real man" Catchphrase.
    Vergil: Honestly I don't quite understand that. If someone is physically male, how can they not be a real man, as you say?
  • The fact that in response to Elfman's insult about 'hiding behind his sword', Vergil just goes "why not" and actually fights his opponent with hand to hand for the rest of their fight. Hell, at the start he doesn't even use Beowulf, showing he's not quite as above showing off as the emotionless being he claims to be.
• Ch. 12 A True Devil: When the guild realise the kidnapper is targeting their strongest members, Lucy pipes up that she should be included in that number when Erza omits her name in a rundown. Happy of course, can't help but tease her about it.
  Happy: This isn't the time to brag Lucy.
  Lucy: (tick mark) I'm no bragging!
• Ch. 13 A Devil's Game:
  • Lucy whining about how villains always seem to find scary places to hide away in upon seeing the temple Vergil has holed up in.
  • Far from being intimidated, Gray and Gajeel are actually excited at the prospect of fighting Phantom, to Carla's exasperation.
• Ch. 14 Natsu vs Griffon: Lady and Trish feel the impact of Natsu's Finishing Move against Griffon, and comment that he's even worse than Dante when it comes to collateral damage.
• Ch. 15 Gajeel and Gray vs. Phantom/Dante vs. Nightmare:
  • Happy complaining at Phantom manifesting a scorpion tail out of lava, saying spiders don't have tails. Carla reminds him they're fighting a demon.
  • After the group buries the demon under rubble, Happy tries to give a Bond One-Liner... which falls flat since Phantom survived (and is quite pissed) and the line itself.
    Happy: Looks like we squished a bug.
    Carla: You're hilarious.
  • Agni and Rudra spotting and commenting on Nightmare's weakness.. before Dante knocks their heads together and reminds them of their promise not to talk.
• Ch. 16 Demons vs. Spirits:
  • Vergil expressing disgust at Taurus' perverted attitude, asking Lucy if she tells him to act like that for an ego boost.
    Lucy: HEY! I don't WANT him to say this stuff! Oh why am I trying to explain this to you? Taurus! Take him down!
  • Sagittarius unleashes a volley of arrows that would put a machine hun to shame, which is promptly blocked by Vergil. As the archer admires the skill required for such a feat, Lucy yells at him for complimenting the person they're fighting.
• Ch. 18 Epic Clash: Natsu vs. Vergil:
  • When Natsu briefly halts his match with Vergil to ask him a question, the elder Son of Sparda states that he's perfectly aware he's half human, having grown exasperated at having that particular fact thrown in his face each time he spouts his Might Makes Right mindset.
  • Likewise, when Vergil simultaneously praises Natsu's abilities while saying they are no match for his own, several of the watching Fairy Tail members comment on how his cocky attitude is wearing thin.
    Lucy: There he goes again with the cocky attitude.
    Loke: You surprised? He's clearly insane.
    Erza & Juvia: Agreed.
  • Amidst his confrontation with Vergil and explanation to Fairy Tail of how the Perfect Amulet acts as a key to the Underworld, Dante briefly stops to ponder why Sparda didn't simply hide it in a volcano so no one could find and use it. Even Vergil takes a moment to agree that their father dropped the ball on that one.
• Ch. 19 A Son of Sparda and a Son of Igneel:
  • While everyone else unleashes their strongest attack on Vergil, Elfman uses 'Manly Attack'.... which consists of him throwing a large rock.
  • While Natsu using Dragon Force to knock Vergil through a wall is pretty epic, the fact that it leaves Dante speechless deserves a chuckle.
    Dante: (in Devil Trigger) Wow... that's just... wow.
  • While everyone is incredulous that Natsu's rejoined the fight, they are quickly convinced by the fact that the castle looks more wrecked by the second.
• Ch. 20 A Devil's Home with the Fairies: Upon his recovery, Natsu is quite enthused to have a cool battle scar, even bragging to Gray that it's bigger than his.

Edolas

• Ch. 22 Gildarts
  • In the flashback, after Lisanna compares herself, Happy and Natsu to a family, the talking cat cheerfully states that he doesn't see Natsu as a father figure at all.
    • Young Lisanna's constant teasing of Natsu makes it clear where Happy picked up some of his habits from.
  • While the forest Vulcan holding Lisanna hostage is tense, after declaring he'll make her his wife this exchange occurs.
    Natsu: (deadpan) You're such a perv.
    Happy: Oh scandalous. Truly forbidden love.
    Lisanna: (looking away with a blushing smile) I'm sorry if you feel that way Mr. Vulcan. But my heart belongs to my sweet little Natsu.
  • Like in canon, Gildarts forgetting to use the door when leaving the guildhall.
    • And Natsu doing the same a few seconds later.
      Max: One wall-breaker is enough!
• Ch.23 Earthland
  • Gajeel's attempts to get a cat of his own are made even funnier by the fact that Trish is there to watch the whole thing!
  • Some general Fairy Tail shenanigans.
    • Cana gleefully chugs from a barrel of alcohol (which she calls her boyfriend) and her reaction when Modeus suggests she have some tea instead.
    • Alzack and Bisca being embarrassed at the dialogue from Grey showing Juvia how to eat a sweet roll as well as their reactions to Erza sating she is envious of how close they are.
    • While Elfman is chastising Jet and Droy for their lackluster performance on their previous mission, Mirajane attempts to come to their defense.
      Mirajane: Well I think Jet and Droy have gotten stronger recently.
      Jet/Droy: (hearts around them) Gee, thanks Mira!
      Mirajane: In their own way.
      Jet/Droy: SAY WHAT?!
  • While Dante, Natsu, and Modeus are questioning Carla about why she didn't warn anyone about the Anima, Happy appears.
    Happy: Natsu! Dante! Modeus! What happened?! Everything went poof! I'M FREAKING OUT!
• Ch. 24 Edolas
  • While it's in the middle of a heartwarming moment after Carla admits she's not completely against saving their friends, Dante chimes in.
    Dante:Oh, so you're only partially against us saving our friends? How reassuring.
  • Agni and Rudra comment on the magicless state of Edolas and ask why everyone is staring at them, leading to this glorious exchange.
    Dante: (holding up fingers) Three, two, one.
    Happy/Natsu/Wendy/Carla: (Screams)
    Happy: TALKING SWORDS!
    Modeus: As a talking cat, I do not believe you have room to talk.
    Happy: (suddenly calm) I guess.
  • When trying to come up with disguises, Dante agrees to Natsu's idea so long as he doesn't look ridiculous. One Gilligan Cut later.
    Dante: (covered in purple leaves) I look ridiculous.
  • Natsu tries to ask a fisherman for information, but is quite aggressive and has glowing yellow eyes while doing so. Then Agni and Rudra join in, scaring the poor man even more. The three then wonder why he ran off in such a hurry.
    • When the group encounters more locals, who become terrified at the sight of Happy and Carla, the Talking Weapon's quickly state it wasn't their fault the people ran off this time. Just the image of two Devil Arms trying to avoid the blame for a mishap is worth a few chuckles.
  • As per canon, the sheer contrast between the members of Fairy Tail and their Edolas counterparts. Examples include:
    • Elfman being told to toughen up by Jet and Droy.
    • Grey wearing too many clothes, and being a Hopeless Suitor to Juvia.
    • Bisca and Alzack being Sickeningly Sweethearts.
    • Cana wearing a proper dress and refusing to drink any alcohol.
    • Finally, Lady's counterpart (who goes by 'Mary') wears a pink dress, and states she detests all kinds of violence.
    • After meeting Edolas Lucy dressed in all black:
      Wendy: Modeus... Carla... I'm scared.
• Ch. 25 The Fairy Hunter and The Black Angel
  • Everyone's continued reaction to the dichotomy between the members of the Edolas Fairy Tail and their Earthland counterparts, especially Bisca and Alzack.
    Wendy: (Sweat Drop) You know I kinda feel like I shouldn't be watching any of this.
    Modeus: I am glad that they voiced their feelings to each other, but I believe there should be personal restraint involved in this.
    • A bit of Fridge funny, but the fact that Bisca and Alzack are so obvious even Modeus can see the attraction between them, despite having joined Fairy Tail a week ago!
  • When wondering what Erza's Edolas counterpart is like, the group has some amusing ideas.
    • Natsu suggests that she's a pushover that he can berate for a change.
    • Happy thinks she'd be a loyal minion for him to command.
    • Mixed with heartwarming, but Wendy's involves Erza baking plenty of strawberry cakes for them to enjoy before telling her to floss afterward.
    • Dante imagines her as a loyal servant of Mundus and/or a demon queen sent to vanquish his enemies, which the others are disturbed by. Even funnier is that Dante's idea is actually the most accurate fit for Erza Knightwalker.
  • Right before the guildhall teleports, Natsu and Dante give these glorious responses.
    Natsu: WHY IS EVERYTHING FLOATING!?
    Dante: (calmly) Oddly enough, not the strangest thing that's happened to me.
    • Also, the fact that even teleportation can set off Natsu' motion sickness.
• Ch. 26 Hunting in Edolas
  • After Edolas Lucy drives away the giant frog that was about to attack the group Natsu and Dante are more disappointed over the fact that they couldn't fight it than they are grateful.
  • Edolas Lucy's annoyance that Wendy, Carla and Happy refer to her as 'Scary Lucy'. Dante agrees with her... saying that she's not scary at all before calling her 'Crazy Lucy' instead. When she tries to attack him he simply holds her back by placing his hand on her head, while cheerfully saying she reminds him of their Lucy, in that she's fun to mess with.
• Ch. 27 To Take a Stand
  • Lucy subduing the guards with Ares' wool, making them to comfortable to want to fight. Everyone is baffled and Dante's disappointment that they couldn't fight them the old-fashioned way really sells it.
    Dante: Uh... what's going on?
    Modeus: (confused) If I had to guess, I'd say due to the soft and gentle feeling, their nerves are being overflow and will likely paralyze them. I think?

    Lisanna: Uh... is she... really fighting them?
    Natsu: I have no idea
  • When wondering why Lucy still has her magic this exchange occurs.
    Lucy: (starry eyed) Well... maybe I'm a legendary beautiful heroine in this world!
    Dante: Don't think so.
    Lucy: (comical tears) Can't a girl have a dream?
  • Like canon, Edolas Lucy coming out dressed in a towel and Earthland Lucy's annoyance. After having Gemini join in Dante chimes in.
    Dante: Three Lucy's huh? That's either a dream come true or a night terror. I can do with the hotness but that's way too high maintenance.
    All 3 Lucy's: SHUT UP DANTE!
    Wendy: They're in perfect synch.
    Carla: Perfectly annoying.
  • After Edolas Lucy gives a somber remark about how things in Edolas have been to hectic to worry about things like looking after their hair Dante chimes in that appearances do matter... since if you're saving the world, you need to look good doing it, and proceeds to admire his reflection in Rebellion.
  • Lucy's rage at her Edolas counterpart leaving them gives a few gems.
    Lucy: YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME! I CAN'T BELIEVE MYSELF!

    Lucy: When I get my hands on her, I'll ring her scrawny neck.
    Happy: So you're saying you have a scrawny neck too?
• Ch. 28 An Unexpected Betrayal
  • The groups continued confusion at Edolas Natsu's complete 180 in personality after being taken out of the Fireball, as well as his personality compared to his Earthland counterpart. He even hides behind his cool car when Lucy thanks him.
  • In the midst of an emotional and startling revelation, Natsu, Lucy, Wendy and Happy's reaction to the revelation that Edolas Eva is Edolas Lucy's aunt provides some levity.
  • Lisanna proudly presents the group with torches to use in the caves, but forgot to think of a way to light them.
  • The Running Gag of Carla stopping Natsu from leaving right before she reveals new information.
    Natsu: Again with the stopping?!
• Ch. 29 Extalia
  • No sooner does Hughes dismiss Dante as a threat than the latter starts to beat him up from inside his cell, only stopping when the guards use their spears. Also overlaps with awesome.
  • Dante finds some amusement at the fact that he meets Nelo Angelo (essentially an artificial Evil Counterpart to himself, his father and his brother) in Edolas, a land full of doppelgängers. Even Nelo Angelo admits its amusing.
• Ch. 30 Fly! To Our Friends and Into Battle
  • In the midst of Happy and Carla's escape, a clearly out of breath Nichiya refuses to admit he's tired, insisting to himself that he is a strong and healthy young man.
  • Between his constant shouting, rage and the dichotomy between his words and actions, Lucky is a fountain of these, with his interactions with Happy providing plenty of chuckles.
  • The Running Gag of Happy thinking of several quips about the work, before musing they will probably make Lucky angry(er) and that he should keep them to himself... somehow missing that he said that out loud, and always within earshot of Lucky.
  • When Lucy Ashley expresses confidence in Dante's abilities, Edolas Eva teases her about liking him, to which she fervently denies. Natsu Dragion agrees, saying she's more likely to crush guys than to have a crush on one.
    • The next scene she has him in a submission hold right outside the Fireball. Even funnier, the narration states she somehow stopped the car, took him outside and put him in the hold in two-seconds.
• Ch. 31 Code: ETD
  • How does Dante get out of his cell? Taunt the guards until they're angry enough to try and beat him up in his cell. He then delivers an offscreen one-sided beatdown when they enter before calmly walking out.
    Modeus: Not what I had expected, but it worked.
  • Right before the group escapes the upper floors Dante cheekily tells Erza Knightwalker that their version of Erza is prettier.
  • While the Exceeds being turned into a Lacrima is horrifying, that fact that said Lacrima is a giant cat statue is worth a few chuckles.
  • While taunting Byro, Natsu remarks that listening to his voice is worse than the extraction process, which gives Wendy a brief laugh.
• Ch. 32 Fairy Tail Strikes Back
  • Lady, Gray and Erza's stunned reactions to seeing two Gajeels, as well as the latter two's disappointment that no-one is that impressed at the sight of them.
  • Dante's exasperation at Lucy failing to make the connection between the red ball Mystogan asked her to swallow and her ability to use magic in Edolas.
    Dante: Seriously? You didn't think that would be connected to how you can use magic here? Just how oblivious are you?
  • After being fed the X-ball, Natsu wakes up and immediately rushes off in a rage, not even questioning how he can breathe fire again or noticing the others standing around him.
    • As the group begins to leave the dungeon they hear approaching footsteps and prepare for battle... only for it to be a retreating Natsu, who is panicking after seeing two Erza's fighting, calling it a sign of the end times.
    • His unusually panicked and confused attitude (frantically questioning if he's talking to his Grey or the Edolas version) is worth a few chuckles, as well as the fact that he somehow failed to notice Trish until she answered his question.
  • Lucy asks if it's really alright to leave Erza to fight Knightwalker by herself. Trish then asks if she wants to get in the middle of a death match between two Erza's, to which Lucy goes pale and concedes.
  • Lucy remarks that with how confusing King Faust's castles layout has been she wouldn't be surprised if he kept an amusement park in there. One Gilligan Cut later everyone is flabbergasted to find exactly that.
    Lucy: I was just kidding!
    Modeus: (reading sign, confused) E-Land?
    Natsu: What the...?! The King is a total nutjob!
    Lisanna:This... is... just wrong.
    Dante: This whacko King actually put a carnival in his castle? Okay, even I know that ain't right.
  • When Nelo Angelo's true intentions are revealed to Hughes and Sugarboy, he wastes no time striking them with a lightning blast, and says he's wanted to do that within five minutes of meeting both of them in an almost cheerful tone.
• Ch. 33 Clash in E-Land Part 1
  • Nelo Angelo shows that he is indeed made from some of Dante's essence after Hughes tries to attack him.
    Nelo Angelo: Correct me if I am wrong, but I'm sensing some hostility here.
  • After Panther-Lily extends his Busterman sword Happy suddenly dons a professor outfit before stating it is four Rebellions long. Cue Gajeel yelling that the audience just wants a fight scene.
  • When Natsu, Modeus, Lucy and Lisanna are separated from Dante the girls somehow end up in genie outfits to their (and Modeus') embarrassment. When trying to use the machine that caused it to undo the effects Natsu wastes a few minutes switching between even skimpier outfits, only relenting after the two's comical rage (complete with red eyes and sharp teeth).
  • Relating to above, Natsu has the idea to ambush Hughes by having the girls pose in swimsuits to distract him. Upon seeing them, Hughes (completely deadpan) sic's a pair of monsters after them.
    Lucy: WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING TO ME?!
    • Natsu is more upset that his plan failed than the fact that the girls are being chased by a pair of monsters.
      Natsu: What are you two doing?!
      Lisanna: RUNNING FOR OUR LIVES! HELP US!
      Natsu: No, no that is the complete opposite of cuteness!
      Lucy(tick mark): Well excuse us!
    • Also, just the idea that Natsu of all people somehow managed to convince the two to go along with this plan.
  • Later, Lisanna realizes that the monsters have stopped chasing them and turns to tell Lucy... who is still frantically running away. It takes Lisanna a few minutes to catch up and tell her that she can stop running.
    Lucy: NO! STUPID MONSTER STUDENTS LEAVE ME ALONE AND GO BACK TO YOUR AWKWARD LIFE OF HOMEWORK AND BOYFRIENDS.
    Lisanna: Lucy! Stop! It's okay, they stopped chasing us.
    • No sooner does Lucy voice her relief at catching a break does Coco run headfirst into her and Lisanna, bowling them over.
• Ch. 34 Clash in E-Land Part 2
  • Dante is back to full form, throwing out taunts and quips as he fights Nelo Angelo and later octopus Byro.
    Dante(Devil Trigger): And he's outta here! That's Dante's twentieth home run this season!

    Dante: (to Octopus Byro) Hey calamari boy, over here! I normally don't like sea-food, but I think I can make an exception. How about you put the kid down and walk away like a good little squid? Otherwise I'll make sushi out of you.

    Octopus Byro: AH! IT HURTS! IT HURTS!
    Dante: Of course it does, That's how you know it's working.
  • The Running Gag of people being confused at the sight of Octopus Byro,Dante and Modeus included.
  • After being defeated Octopus Byro falls over and land on top of Nelo Angelo. What makes it funnier is the latter has a comical look of shock on his face, a far cry from the typically composed attitude the Knight of Cerebus usually has.
    • As Sugarboy makes his escape, Byro once again topples, falling on top of the Fairy Tail mages (sans Grey and Modeus) to Natsu and Dante's surprise and Lucy and Lisanna's annoyance.
• Ch. 35 Apocalyptic Dragon Chain Cannon
  • As Gajeel and Lady gleefully continue their fight with Panther-Lily Happy remarks that the former two have forgotten that they're supposed to be rescuing their friends.
  • When Modeus and Grey ask Dante and Natsu where Lucy and Lisanna are, the scene cuts to Coco trying to pull the two out from under Byro's octopus body.
  • When some of the members of Edolas Fairy Tail are outside the city, Natsu Dragion and Edolas Grey fearfully argue over who should ask Edolas Eva and Lucy Ashley (especially the latter) about the current plan. Mary suggests that all three of them can ask together prompting Eva to remark that they're standing a few feet away and can hear everything the trio are saying.
  • As the Dragon Chain Cannon prepares to fire it causes the structure of the castle and the city to shift. Lucy compares it to the Gildarts shift back in Magnolia, which prompts this exchange.

• Ch. 36 Saving Edolas
  • Lady and Gajeel going to help their friends stop the Lacrima from impacting the Demonic Lacrima is a mix of Awesome and Heartwarming. Them telling Panther-Lily to 'put a rain-check' on their fight is hilarious, especially given his annoyed reaction at their fight being interrupted.
  • Marl and Lucky see the incoming island and the latter angrily states if it damages his crops there'll be hell to pay.
  • In the midst of Carla confronting Shagotte for her 'mission', Nabi desperately attempts to defuse the situation with an opening that perfectly encapsulates how the events came about in canon.
    Nabi: Wait! You've got it all wrong! It's actually an incredibly long and overly complicated story...
  • When all the Exceeds come to help stop the island from crashing into Extalia, Dante merely has this to say to Trish.
    Dante: Hey, what the hell took you and the cavalry so long?
    Trish: Oh shut up and push you big jerk.
  • After Mystogan's Big Damn Heroes moment, Coco and Panther-Lily reveal that he is actually the prince of Edolas, to Fairy Tails shock.
    Lucy: He's what?!
    Modeus: He's the prince of the Royal Kingdom?
    Dante (chuckles): Well I'll be damned.
• Ch. 37 Wrath! The Dorma Anim and the Onyx Reaper!
  • Dante greets Knightwalker and Nelo Angelo (the latter in his new Onyx Reaper form) with his usual flippancy.
    Dante: Hey, NA, you've been hitting up steroids since I last saw you? And little Ms. Knightwalker, like the new hairdo.
  • A pissed off Lady fires a rocket at the Dorma Anim... which doesn't even make a dent and Faust simply fires back without any of his usual ranting, or even looking in their direction.
    Gray: I think you just pissed him off, Lady.
    Lady: (tick mark) Really? I hadn't noticed that!
  • After Faust manages to knock Mystogan away from the fight, the group discusses how to deal with the three sets of enemies in front of them.
    Trish: If anyone has any ideas, I'm all-ears!
    Happy: Lets use Lucy as a decoy to distract the bad guys!
    Lucy: Shut your face fish-breath!
    Lady: Anyone got any real ideas?
  • While Natsu and Gajeel consuming the fire from the explosion and metal from the Dorma Anim's tail are Awesome moments, Faust's complete confusion at them makes it quite amusing. The latter case even more so since the Dorma Anim watches Gajeel do so with a sweat-drop.
  • After Knightwalkers ambush shoots down the Legion the group were riding, the fliers all struggle to hold onto their friends, with Lucy comically asking Lisanna not to drop her and Gray, while Lady threatens to kill Happy if he drops her after he complains that she is heavy.
• Ch. 38 Turning the Tide
  • Fairy Tails growing frustration at the sheer amount of soldiers that they have to fight, who they refer to as a stream of idiots. It gets worse when the Legion steeds show up.
    Trish: Are you freaking kidding me?!
  • While Edolas Fairy Tails Big Damn Heroes is an epic moment, there are plenty of these mixed in from everyones responses to their Edolas counterparts.
    • Gray and his counterpart being shocked at each others attire, yelling at each other to put on and take off clothes respectively. What's more, Gray is horrified to discover his counterpart is a Hopeless Suitor to Juvia, incredulously asking why he has a crush on 'that psycho'.
    • Lady shocked to see her counterpart wearing a large pink dress, and using a frying pan as a weapon, which only grows when Mary invites her to tea. Mary for her part is appaled that her counterpart casually swears.
    • Even in the midst of combat, Edolas Alzack and Bisca continue to be Sickeningly Sweethearts.
    • And of course, Lucy's reaction to all of the differences between the Edolas Fairy Tail members and her own.
      Lucy: Gray's head-over-heels for Juvia? Jet and Droy are the strongest wizards in the guild? Lady's name is Mary and she's like a pink princess?! EVERYTHING'S TOTALLY SCREWED UP HERE!
  • An angry Trish lifts one of the soldiers by the throat and furiously questions if he thinks he's on the right side of this in what should be a serious exchange... But then this happens instead.
    Trish: Tell me something pal! Do you really think you're doing good!? You think you're doing the right thing!?
    Soldier: I DON'T KNOW HOW TO ANSWER THAT!
  • Loke flirting with Lucy does not go unnoticed by her Edolas counterpart, who asks if her is her boyfriend. Lucy quickly denies this, and when Loke complements Edolas Lucy she, deadpan, states she's not into pretty-boys, causing him to comically fall down.
    Lady: Ooooh! Rejected!
• Ch. 39 Checkmate!
  • The fact that the Dorma Anim dodged Dante and the Dragon Slayers Unison Raid by jumping into the air is a hilarious mental image.
  • Amidst the everyone in Edolas freaking out over the apparent loss of their magic, one citizen asks Edolas Gajeel why he's writing in his notebook at a time like this. After the man responds that it's to keep a record for future generations, the citizen says 'Whatever you say!' before running off to resume panicking.
• Ch. 40 Goddbye Edolas
  • Every member of Fairy Tails reaction to 'the Demon King Dragneel' and his 'servants', Redfox and Marvel, asking Natsu if he's gone insane.
    • Wendy's complete failure to scare a child, who is more confused than frightened, prompting Gajeel to give him a Death Glare from behind her (that she fails to notice). When Modeus asks Dante (who came up with the plan) why he had Wendy join in the act, the latter defends that she volunteered to take part, and it's not his fault she's not scary. Just the idea of the adorable Wendy asking to play the role of a vicious demon is worth a laugh.
    • Natsu gets a bit too into the 'King' part of the act, prompting the following exchange with an annoyed Gajeel.
      Natsu: Now, my loyal servants of Dragneel! Don't stop destroying stuff!
      Gajeel: Keep up with that 'servant-crap' and I'm coming up there first.
      Natsu: Just do what I tell you to slave!
      Gajeel: (grumbles) Should have been more specific.
    • After Dante explains his plan to the others, Happy asks why he isn't joining in on the evil demon act. He responds 1) it isn't really his style and 2) Natsu's destructive nature makes him far more suited to the role. Everyone present sweat-drops and sheepishly concede the point.
  • The giant lacrima Faust made out of the Exceed army returns to normal... forming a massive pile of the creatures with poor Nichiya at the bottom.
    Nichiya: Oh my... I feel myself again. EXCEPT FOR THSI CRUSHING WEIGHT! I'M BEING SQUASHED BY MY MEN!
  • In the midst of their 'fight', Natsu makes sure to give Mystogan a proper Fairy Tail sendoff, citing the three rules for departing members. Unfortunately, as he starts the second, the latter punches him in the face, dazing him and asking what it was again.
  • While mostly a mix of Heartwarming and Tearjerker, Dante and Edolas Eva's goodbye makes it clear where he got his tendency to snark from.
    Dante: I know his is gonna sound really weird but... I love you.
    Edolas Eva: Yeah... I love you too. And you're right... it does sound weird.
  • As he's being pulled towards the Reverse-Anima Dante (true to form) goes out with a show, giving 'rock-on devil horns' with his hands and yelling 'GOOOOOOODNIGHT EDOLAS!' An amused Edolas Lucy calls him a showoff.
• Ch. 41 Welcome Home
  • Everyone's shock at the Exceeds having been brought to Earthland as well, having white eyes and slack jaws. This includes the likes of Dante and Modeus.
  • Erza's horrified reaction when Nichiya begins to sniff per 'parfum', clearly being reminded of Ichiya. In a panic she sends him flying with a punch.
  • As the Exceeds give their explanation, Natsu and later Gray somehow pick up Nabi's habit of continuously waving their left hand without even noticing. By the time the Exceeds leave, everyone but Gajeel is doing it, with Wendy even remarking that it's quite fun.
  • When Carla asks how she has the same clairvoyance magic as Shagotte, the elder Exceeds sheepishly look away with nervous coughs. Dante finds it amusing that Carla hasn't put it together that Shagotte is her mother despite having the same power and the obvious resemblance between the two.
  • Everyone's shocked reaction that Panther-Lily has shrunk to the same size as Happy and Carla, with Trish even remarking he looks cute like this. Upon asking to join Fairy Tail Gajeel hugs him with comical Tears of Joy and Trish noting he's finally found his own cat.

Devil Hand

• Ch. 42 Dawn of Darkness
  • Edolas Fairy Tail want to make sure that their guildhall is still mobile, but their options are limited without any magic. As such, Edolas Levy somehow manages to fit massive wheels onto the thing, to Edolas Lucy's comic shock.
    • From the same scene, to try and get out of physically pulling it, Edolas Natsu goes to use the Fireball, forgetting that it doesn't work without magic. As the men begin to pull the thing, Edolas Natsu questions why the women aren't helping out, prompting this exchange.
      Edolas Lucy: How rude! You should know better than to ask delicate maidens like us to haul that thing!
      Edolas Fairy Tail Men: WHAT?! DELICATE MAIDENS!? YOU!?
    • There's something amusing about the women of Edolas Fairy Tail having an actual tea party (along with a few heartfelt moments) inside the guildhall as the men are pulling it. After Edolas Levy teases Edolas Lucy about having a crush on her cousin, the men pick up on the fact and express their annoyance.
      Edolas Fairy Tail Men: ARE YOU HAVING A TEA PARTY IN THERE!? COME OUT HERE AND HELP US!
  • Back on Earthland, everyone is overjoyed to see Lisanna alive and well, rushing to embrace her with Tears of Joy... prompting Elfman to send them flying with a punch. Even Dante and Natsu comment that he went overboard with sweat-drops on their heads.
  • The group that went to Edolas inform everyone of the differences to their counterparts, leading to many of these.
    • Lucy, Wendy and Trish see Juvia in a depression, with a literal raincloud above her head. Turns out, Happy told her about Edolas Gray being head-over-heels for Edolas Juvia, with the woman sullenly saying she wants to meet Edolas Gray.
    • Alzack and Bisca are greatly embarrassed to hear that their counterparts are Sickeningly Sweethearts, unable to look one another in the eye.
    • Everyone finds it hilarious that Edolas Natsu is a complete wimp, to his indignation.
    • Dante tells everyone about how Lady's counterpart is the picture of a prim and proper lady, who dislikes fighting because it might ruin her dress. Natsu laughs at the idea of Lady acting like a lady, prompting her to appear behind him (with glowing red eyes) and scares him into apologizing. He internally notes she can be as scary as Erza.
    • When Gildarts eagerly asks about his counterpart, both Natsu and Dante say they never met him. They nonchalantly state he was probably a fish or frog, or dead to his indignation.
  • Gajeel brags that 'his cat' (Lily) can kick Natsu and Wendy's in a fight, which the Fire Dragon Slayer take up on his partners behalf. Among those watching, Modeus asks if this can be considered a form of animal cruelty, and Happy shakily asks if they get any say in the fight.
    Gajeel: Ain't no way you guys can beat my Lily! He's the strongest with a capital S!
    Natsu: We'll see about that! Cause Happy's a cat with a lower-case c!
    Dante: That's not how it works Natsu.
    • While Happy expresses doubt that he can match Lily, he bashfully reconsiders when Carla compliments him, the two blushing. An amused Dante and Lady quickly take the chance to turn the tables on the young Exceed.
      Dante: (whistles)Someone's getting some lady action.
      Lady: You liiike her.
      Happy: Hey! That's my thing copy-cat!
  • While all of the above was happening a Big Ball of Violence somehow erupted unnoticed in the middle of the guildhall, to Modeus' shock. An eager Dante joins in, but not before tossing Rebellion and Ebony and Ivory to Lucy, to her ire. Then several others jump in, prompting this exchange between Trish and Lady.
    Trish: Boys.
    Lady: I know, why should they have all the fun?
    Trish/Lady: Lucy, hold onto these too!
    • The two then proceed to toss the Sparda-Sword, Luce and Umbra, Lady's rocket launcher and pistols at the hapless Lucy before jumping straight into the fight. The poor girl then falls over from the weight of all the weapons.
    • Later, Natsu and Dante take a brief break from the fight to talk to Makarov and Gildarts. After, everyone taunts them for 'running' from the fight, prompting them both to leap back in with gusto.
  • After waking up the next day, Dante comments that he should probably stop drinking. He then chuckles and admits that'll be the day.
• Ch. 43 Movement in the Shadows
  • Natsu and Gray's fight against Dante is going pretty well, until he tricks them into hitting one another, causing them to start literally butting heads. Cue Dante Put Their Heads Together and smugly declaring he wins. He then asks why they fight so much, finding it ridiculous even with the fire/ice motif, with the only reasons given as follows.
    Gray: Blame the hothead here always picking fights.
    Nastu: At least I don't strip.
  • After Lisanna asks Natsu to join her on a job, Dante and Happy waste no time teasing the Dragon Slayer about his obvious crush. Natsu quickly returns the favor when Happy reveals he and Carla are going to visit the Exceeds, even saying "you liiike her" to the Exceeds comic indignation. When Dante teases him over this as well Happy threatens to pay him back in the future about him and Lady, with an unfazed Dante warning him not to say that in front of her. Cue an Imagine Spot of Lady with both pistols and glowing red eyes, causing the young Exceed to comically shiver, thinking better of it.
  • Gildarts teasing Natsu and Lisanna when everyone sees them off. When Lucy expresses concern at them going for a job on their own, Happy teases her about being jealous, which she furiously denies, asking what she has to be jealous of. Dante's response...
    Dante: Oh just those two being alone. Without any form of supervision.
    Lucy: Shut up Dante!
    Elfman: Natsu better not be thinking taking away my sister's innocence or he's gonna answer to me!
    Mira: Uh... I don't think we'd have to worry about that.
    Dante: Man I love this guild.
    Gildarts: You and me both buddy.
    (fist bump)
  • The job Lisanna picked out was to gather some fish for the client, and prepared accordingly with rods and baskets... only it turns out to be flying fish, making said preparations useless. After wondering how they'll get them now, Natsu simply says "on it" and launches a Fire-Dragon Roar, quickly catching and roasting dozens.
    Natsu: Got em!
    Lisanna: (sweat-drop) Well that's one way of doing it.
  • The client thanking the two for not only getting the fish, but cooking them as well, which Lisanna nervously rolls with. Natsu is shocked to hear the man is planning to sell them as a delicacy (knowing full well how bad they taste) and warns Lisanna to throw out the ones the client gave them as soon as the are out of earshot. Not believing him she takes a bite, only for her face to go purple and quickly spits it out, with him chuckling that he warned her.
  • Lisanna asks Natsu who Dante is, having never seen an Edolas counterpart for him and being curious about his Devil Trigger, as it's clearly not a Takeover. Natsu asks if she's heard of the legend of Sparda, and when she says she has he bluntly states Sparda is his father. This prompts a comical look of shock, with shrunken pupils and a complete 'o' for a mouth.
  • In the same scene, Lisanna teases Natsu that his vow to beat Dante someday means he hasn't beaten him yet, leading to the following exchange.
    Lisanna: I take it that means you haven't beaten him yet.
    Natsu: Well... no... but I almost got him a few times!
    Lisanna: But not completely, right?
    Natsu: (pouting) No.
• Ch. 44 Devil Hand
  • While Lucy is worrying about Natsu and Lisanna in her apartment, a concerned Dante asks if she's alright. She says she's fine before doing a Double Take that her friends have yet again broken into her apartment, this time consisting of Dante, Happy and Lady of all people. When asked why they keep doing this, Dante and Happy both respond it's fun to mess with her.
  • When Lucy expresses concern at how long Natsu and Lisanna are taking on their job, Happy teasingly suggests she's jealous of Natsu and Lisanna being alone together.
    Lucy: WHAT?! Why would I be jealous!? Just because Natsu is hanging out with someone else, it's not my business who he hangs out with! Why would I be worry about that, anyway? Don't go saying I have I crush on him, cause I don't!
    Lady: We didn't say you had a crush.
    Lucy: (blushing) This is ridiculous. Why would I be crushing on Natsu? He's impulsive, a major glutton, he has terrible manners. He wouldn't know the meaning of the words personal space if it stared him blank in the face!
    Happy: (stifling laughter) She's totally jealous.
    Dante: (smirking) Oh yeah big time.
  • In Natsu's flashback to his time with Igneel, after Igneel remarks on dragons durability, the following exchange occurs.
    Natsu: Yeah, cause you guys are so big and fat! (laughs)
    (Igneel bonks him on head)
    Igneel: First of all, it's not fat! It's muscle!
• Ch. 45 Dragon Soul
  • We get our first glimpse at the Seven Sins, the top members of Devil Hand outside of Vergil and Arkham, and while most are terrifying, their interactions prove they fit the term Quirky Miniboss Squad.
    • Mammon proves to be a source of these, throwing plenty of snark at Iblis flexing her new authority, Satan's fixation on fighting, and Belphegors laziness, with the latter throwing back shade at his mouthiness.
    • Satan makes his entrance by bursting through the wall of the cave.
      Iblis: (raised eyebrow) Satan, you do release you could have just walked here right?
      Satan: Didn't feel like it.
    • Hell, the bickering between the everyone makes it clear that the actual children (Beelzebub and Leviathia) are more mature than most of the adult members, with Iblis having to break up the argument, acting less like The Dragon and more like an exasperated Team Mom.
  • When Lady notes that Lisanna is just saying their job was 'exciting' while avoiding specifics, Dante jokingly suggests that said excitement involved the two of them and a bed. This prompts an eye-roll from Lady and Trish while Modeus points out how unlikely it is that Natsu and Lisanna would do such a thing.
    Dante: Yeah, but you can't deny he's got the hots for her.
    Trish: Oh big time.
    Lady: Yep.
  • When discussing their job, Gray is unsurprised to hear that Natsu simply fried the fish. Meanwhile Carla worries that Happy has an addiction to the food when Happy asks if Natsu kept any for him, to his indignation.
  • After her impressing Mira with Dragon Soul, a clearly exhausted Lisanna is about to fall over, before Natsu catches her bridal-style. He smiles and says he knew she could do it, in a romantic scene lifted straight out of a fairy tale. Then...
    Natsu: Now you're gonna fight me!
    • Cue Lisanna fainting (complete with Blank White Eyes), and everyone watching having comically turned white with sweat-drops on their head, with the exception of a laughing Gildarts.
      Dante: (facepalm) Smooth, like sandpaper.
• Ch. 46 Fallen Angel
  • Mirajane and Elfman thanking Natsu for saving their sister is a heartwarming moment, especially once the eldest Strauss sibling gives him a hug. Then Elfman joins in and crushes the two in his own Bear Hug.
    Natsu: (white-eyed, blue-faced) Elfman... Can't breathe...!
  • Everyone teasing Natsu and Lisanna over the fact that the Dragon Slayer gave her a piece of his soul, causing the two to blush.
  • Porlyusica, annoyed that they haven't left yet, chases everyone off with a Death Glare and a broom. Everyone present quickly flees while screaming, including several S-Class mages.
  • After Trish tricks Lucy into admitting she's jealous of Natsu and Lisanna, the latter becomes embarrassed. Even sinking to her knees in shame, complete with a sweat-drop.
    Lucy: I walked right into that one didn't I?
    Trish: Pretty much.
  • After some sincere advice to Lucy about getting her feelings off her chest, Trish reveals that she was in a similar situation with Dante, to her surprise. Trish said she got over it for two reasons, the first being that he already has his eyes on someone else, showing respect for her his choice.
    Lucy: And the second reason?
    Trish: Because when I was made by Mundus he made me look almost exactly like Dante's mum.
    Lucy: Yeah you're right... that would be kinda messed up.
• Ch. 47 Demonic Descent
  • While many of Fairy Tail's members aren't happy to see Angel again, Lucy in particular, Natsu ends up deflating the tense situation by asking who she is, causing everybody to look at him in surprise or exhaustion, with Angel's body even turning comically white. And when Natsu is reminded, this exchange happens:
    Natsu: Oh, I remember! You're that girl in the weird feather dress!
    Angel: It wasn't weird!
  • When Fairy Tail wonders why Devil's Hand is targeting Lisanna and Angel, Happy's theory is they both have white hair.
  • As Lucy is explaining how bad Angel is to Lisanna, including bringing up how she was nearly killed by the Dark Celestial Wizard, Lady jokes that a lot of people tried to kill them, which is the price of being part of Fairy Tail. Lucy is not amused.
  • Seeing Natsu rush after the caravan carrying Angel, in the hopes of facing Devil Hand when they attack, which prompts some compliments from Lisanna and Modeus, and insults from most of the others.
    Modeus: You do have to admire his enthusiasm.
    Gray: I think you mean stupidity.
    Trish: Was he ever dropped as a baby?
    Happy: Yeah, probably.
  • Lucy questioning why she's the only one who's worried about having to face demons, prompting Carla to remind her that she volunteered to join Dante. When Wendy says she can return to the guildhall, a resolute Lucy replies that she will stay to help her friends, right before gaining a comical look of fear.
    Lucy: I'm just so scared.
  • After taking out a Vanguard by herself, Lucy starts to feel confident about her skills as a Devil Hunter, unaware of another one sneaking up behind her. Cue bullets from Dante, who advises her to save gloating for after a battle. She admits that's a good idea, her pride clearly deflated.
  • After Angel thanks Dante for saving her, Gray chooses to tease him about it, calling her his fan.
    Dante: What can I say? I got that effect on all the ladies.
    Lucy: Yeah well, you don't see me drooling all over you.
    Lady: That makes two of us.
    Lisanna: Three.
    Trish: Four
    Dante: You look like my mom, you don't count.
    Natsu: But when do we ever see girls going gaga over you?
    Happy: Aye, Dante the lady-less man.
    Dante: Yeah, yeah.
• Ch. 48 The Calm Before the Storm
  • Natsu falls asleep while fishing with Lisanna and Happy, with the former waking him up by pushing him into the river. If there was ever any doubt, it's clear where Happy picked up his penchant for mischief.
  • After a heartfelt moment between the two on a rooftop, Dante suddenly picks up Lady bridal style before leaping down to the ground, to her comical shock. A red faced Lady decks him and tells him to warn her next time.
  • Ultear meeting the Seven Deadly Sins has Mammon and Asmodeua both attempt to hit on her, to Iblis' annoyance. Upon hearing that she is from Grimoire Heart, Satan eagerly asks if their two dark guilds are going to fight, andis disappointed when told there will be no bloodshed.
  • During Devil Hands assault on Angels prison, Mammon has a few great lines.
    Mammon: Yo sorry about the door. Not.
    
    Rune Knight: You're with Devil Hand!
    Mammon: No shit buddy. Like our pentagram symbols weren't a dead giveaway.
  • While Erza and Gray are discussing making Lisanna an official member of their team, both snark that Natsu will love the idea. An eavesdropping Juvia is clearly jealous, wishing to join as well to spend time with Gray.
• Ch. 49 Rise! Temen-ni-gru
  • In order to fight Vergil, Lucy summons Aquarius to help Lisanna pull him down into a pond. As one might expect, Aquarius is her usual cranky self throughout the fight, saying she finds egotistical men as irritating as Lucy, before ranting how Lucy pulled her out of a date with Scorpio, and how she'll drown her in a toilet if she does it again.
  • After Vergil retreat from the fight, Jester appears before Natsu, Lisanna, Lucy, and Happy, with the blue cat calling him a clown. Jester indignantly responds that he is a jester, and that clowns have no sense of style. After giving his whole introduction to the group he suddenly gets in Happys face and prompts the following exchange.
    Jester: And someone who is NOT A CLOWN! (resumes creepy smile) You got that kitty cat?
    Happy: Aye sir! You're not a clown sir! You're just a really creepy guy dressed in purple sir!
  • Growing annoyed by Jester's antics, Natsu grabs him by the shirt, asking who he is, what he knows about Devil Hand, and why he's dressed like that.
  • When Lucy asks Jester how he knows Dante, Jester rattles off a long list of nicknames for Dante, such as 'The red-coat Devil Hunter', 'the youngest Son of Sparda', 'the demon who lives with the fairies', and 'the man with a psycho twin who's been trying to kill him for who-knows-how-long'.
    Jester: Yoza, now that's a mouthful!
  • He then proceeds to explain the Seven Sins to the group, doing a different action for each Sin.
    • A large stance for Pride.
    • Cowering and covering his face for Envy.
    • Shaking his cane like he's strangling something in anger for Wrath.
    • Running his fingers down Lucy's legs for Lust, much to her disgust.
    • Getting up slowly and speaking slowly for Sloth.
    • Pulling out a bag of jewels for Greed, before eating said bag for Gluttony.
  • Devil Hand are preparing to are preparing to enact the dark ritual to raise Temen-ni-gru, which Vergil states requires the blood of female virgins descended from the virgin priestess who was originally sacrificed to seal it. Mammon then questions how a virgin priestess can even have descendants, to which Beelzebub casually points out she had siblings.
    Mammon: Oh. Never mind then.
  • After Temen-ni-gru rises out of the ground, Natsu, Lucy, Lisanna, and Happy are completely stunned for a few moments before Happy speaks up.
    Happy: A HUGE TOWER JUST SHOT UP FROM THE GROUND!
  • Once Natsu regains his composure, he begins going off with Lucy asking where he's going, he responds with the following in a tone that screams 'well, duh'.
    Natsu: Obviously, to the giant tower that we're going to destroy.
  • After Natsu explains that Dante and the other Fairy Tail mages will come to help them destroy Temen-ni-gru after figuring everything out themselves, Happy calls him a genius.
    Happy: I never actually thought I'd say that.
    Natsu: Come on, you think I'm just some mindless pyro who blows up everything I see? (points to his head) I do have a brain up here.
    Lucy: Even though you don't use it too often.
    • Even Natsu laughed at Lucy's quip.
• Ch 50 Sinner's Advent
  • As Modeus explains Temen-ni-gru and it's origins to the others, Natsu has issues with the name.
    Natsu: Temeni...wha?
    Gray: (annoyed) Just think as big evil tower Natsu.
  • Some of the Sins banter before going off to fight Fairy Tail, including Mammon complaining at Arkhams havit of showing up out of nowhere, and calling 'dibs' on Ultear when Arkham instructs them to use the hostages to Divide and Conquer. Not to mention Leviatha snarking at Satan's Blood Knight tendencies.
    Satan: I hope they hurry. I really... really...
    Leviatha: Wanna kill someone, we know, we got it the first thousand times.
  • Aftre Dante and Happy are separated, Jester appears before the two, and is his usual mix of creepy and hilarious. After Dante gets annoyed at his antics, he starts shooting at the demons feet, forcing him to 'dance'... Only for him to actually start dancing the second time Dante does it, as he exits the area to boot!
• Ch 51 Brotherly Rivals Evermore!
  • Dante cracking at Vergil upon meeting him again at the top of Temen-ni-gru.
    Dante: You just can't stay out of trouble, can you? First you try to kidnap and kill my friends, now you formed your own Dark Guild to raise some overgrown haunted house and destroy all humanity.
  • After taking care of the Hell Wraths and Hell Gluttonys, Lily is completely surprised seeing Natsu eat fire for the first time, and asks Gajeel if what he saw was real.
    Gajeel: Yeah, you get to used to it.
  • Jester surprising Natsu, Gajeel, Panther-Lily and Elfman by suddenly showing up after their fight, on a lawn chair while eating popcorn to boot. The four are understandably weirded out by his antics, and he is annoyed by Natsu still calling him a 'clown', capped off by him leaving with a backflip into a nearby lake.
    Panther-Lily: That was... Strange...
    Natsu: More like annoying. Still don't like that guy.
  • Trish finding herself annoyed by Belphegor's laziness and deadpan tone, with the latter noting that he does represent Sloth.
    Trish: Wow, Vergil didn't do himself any favors picking an emo like you.
    Belphegor: What do you expect from someone who's supposed to represent Sloth?
  • Dante's quip when Vergil managed to impale him with Yamato from behind.
    Dante: Didn't take you for the backstabbing type.
    Vergil: Though your jokes remain annoying, your skills have improved.
  • Gajeel stepping out of an elevator, raring for a good fight, then gets annoyed at seeing Natsu feeling the effects of his motion sickness. He complains that Natsu wasn't even on it for five minutes, before shaking and dropping him to bring him to his senses.
• Ch 52 Sins Born of Desire
  • As the door in front of them finishes opening, Lucy rhetorically asks about the odds of monsters being behind it. Right after Lisanna assures her it could just be more halls and their luck isn't that bad, both girls scream as they narrowly dodge an attack from incoming Hell Lusts.
    Lisanna: Or it could be filled with multiple scary demons. Yeah, maybe our luck is that bad.
  • In order to get past some Hell Lusts with Lisanna, Lucy summons Scorpio, and to her horror she learns she interrupted another date with him and Aquarius. Poor girl just can't stop getting on the water-bearer's bad side.
  • Mammon is disappointed that he has to fight Gray, who he calls a stripper, much to the Ice-Make Wizard's annoyance. He also hits on Juvia, calling her a looker.
  • Lucy and Lisanna's utter shock at finding what looks like a rock stage in the middle of a place like Temen ni gru, complete with Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises. Lisanna quips that even two thousand year old demons must like to rock out every now and again.
  • Lucy snaring Asmodeua with her whip simply has the Sin ask is she's into this sort of thing, to Lucy's annoyance.
    • Later on, the woman says she finds Ares wool rather comfortable even as it's used to bind her, inviting the girls to join her. A nervous Ares hides behind the Fairy Tail members, saying she doesn't like her, a sentiment they agree with.
  • Lucy summons Taurus to fight Asmodeua, which predictably ends up backfiring when Asmodeua seduces him long enough to dispatch and send him back to the Spirit World.
    • Right after being summoned, he compliments Lisanna's Bull Take Over in his usual lecherous manner, to her discomfort. Lucy just Facepalm's and gives the below line.
      Lucy: Taurus, you're already a handful when you come onto me, please don't do it to my friend!
  • Mammons annoyance when Gray attacks him using his own treasure hoard, even whining that he told the Ice-Make wizard not to touch his stuff.
  • Mammon compliments Gray for using imitations of Dante's weapons, calling it "pretty cool", before chuckling at his own pun. Gray is clearly unamused, having lowered eyelids and a sweatdrop, before growing confused when his opponent starts bursting into laughter.
    Gray: Come on, it wasn't that funny!
• Ch 53 Advent of the Fairies
  • During their fight with Satan, Gajeel is shocked when Natsu manages to recover by drinking lava, incredulously asking when he learned to do that. Natsu's response alone is funny in its nonchalance.
    Natsu: (shrugs) Since now I guess.
  • Jester interrupting Wendy, Carla, and Erza's discussion about how to deal with Sheeree with exaggerated crying and calling it a lovely soap opera even bringing out a handkerchief... which is impaled as a warning shot by a wary Erza. His words are a usual mix of irreverent and funny, dryly remarking Erza must not be a fan of tearjerkers after the above, and once again making his exit by dancing while dodging projectiles from a Fairy Tail member, in this case Erza launching more swords.
  • Belphegor deciding to get serious against Modeus and Trish and breaking out Chimera is an awesome display of power from the perpetually lazy mage... who still retains his monotone voice and Deadpan Snarker tendencies in his armour/monster suit. Hell, he even complains about them not dying already so he can go and take a rest.
  • There's something rather funny in how when faced with Modeus' full power, Belphegor quickly decides to try and book it, admitting he may be lazy, but he prefers to live.
• Ch 54 Sins Born of Sorrow
  • In a fit of rage during her fight with Wendy, Leviatha attempts to blast an injured Erza and Lady with a copied Sky Dragon Roar, and scoffs at Wendy's stupidity when she leaps between them... only to be shocked when her former friend simply consumes the attack instead. Lady and Erza snarkily remind her that Dragon Slayers consume their element for a stamina recovery, and congratulate her on helping her opponent.
  • Dante and Happy meet Iblis, the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins. While Happy is understandably intimidated, Dante calls her hot in an appreciative tone.
    Happy: Dante! This lady is a part of Devil Hand! She's an enemy, not your date!
    Dante: Oh I know. Still, you gotta admit, this chick is smokin'. Gotta give Vergil credit, he did us both a huge favor recruiting her.
• Ch 55 Pride Before Judgment
  • During his fight with Iblis, Dante tries to persuade her to leave Devil's Hand, saying he'd hate to see talent like hers go to waste. This is soon followed by this exchange between Dante and Happy.
    Happy: If you're trying to ask her out on a date Dante, I swear I'm gonna drop you!
    Dante: Do it and die.
    Happy: SORRY! JUST KIDDING!
  • When Dante continues to flirt with Iblis, he and an annoyed Happy engage in some Casual Danger Dialogue.
    Happy: Again with the flirting with girls thing, that's serious getting old.
    Dante: This coming from the cat who always says you liiike her'all the time.
    Happy: That line is a classic! Classics never go out of style!
    Dante: Like you know anything about style.
  • Iblis deciding form a black hole with her magic to end herself if it means she can take her opponents with her is a mix of awesome and nightmare fuel. Dante and Happy's reactions however, can give the reader a chuckle.
    Happy: WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!
    Dante: A BLACK HOLE! THAT CRAZY BITCH MADE A FREAKING BLACK HOLE!
  • After his fight with Iblis, Dante is in no mood to deal with Jester's antics and holds a gun to his face. A panicking Jester suggests he think of traumatising poor Happy, who (while lying on the ground because he's just as tired as Dante) says he's fine with it since Jester creeps him out.
  • When Natsu gets agitated over not finding anyone yet, Jester shows up to tell him about everybody in the Seven Sins except Iblis being defeated, the Dragon Slayer gets upset over not beating a single one, and how Gray will likely hold this over him for the next month.
  • Jester pops up before Gray and Juvia to congratulate them on beating Mammon, calling them a happy couple, leading to Juvia's face turning red. He also calls Gray 'stripper boy', much to his anger.
  • Vergil performs the final ritual to open the portal to the Underworld using his blood and the Perfect Amulet... and nearly twenty minutes later is still waiting on the thing actually working. It's rather funny to see Vergil of all people pacing about a room out of impatience.
  • When Natsu, Gray, and Dante show up at Vergil's location, the former two start arguing over who gets to fight him before Dante points out they can all just do it together.
• Ch 56 Let's Welcome Chaos
  • After seeing several Wrath demons that he paralyzed with his claws explode, Toby thinks his claws have explosive abilities. A deadpan Yuka explains that they exploded because of the grenades they were carrying, much to his comical shock.
  • During the fight outside Temen-ni-gru, Ichiya blows a kiss towards the tower for Erza. The instant he does, Erza stops running and feels a chill go down her spine 'for some reason', despite already being in a tower filled with demons.
  • Overlaps with awesome, but how simple Natsu's plan is to deal with Vergil's use of Beowulf; steal the weapon and pass it on to Dante, surprising Gray and Happy at how sensible it sounds. It's so audacious even Vergil can't respond in time.
  • While the scene is dripping with nightmare fuel and end poorly for the heroes, The Reveal that Jester was actually Arkham in disguise this whole time makes so many of his actions funnier in hindsight. Him shifting between the stoic Chessmaster and unhinged lunatic at the drop of a hat is equal parts terrifying and hilarious.
• Ch 57 Ascension to Hell
  • When everyone has a chance to compare notes, Natsu asks who Sheeree is, who goes comically white. There's also something funny in how he just takes the news that she was one of the Seven Sins who is now their friend in stride after Wendy vouches for her.
  • As soon as Fairy Tail and their allies establish contact with their members in Temen-ni-gru, Ichiya begins posing while assuring Erza 'her darling Ichiya' has come to aid her, causing her to shiver again. The annoyed Thunder Legion members ask why he's posing since she can't even see him.
    • Then the Trimens announce themselves in seductive tones. Every female wizard in the tower sweat-drop in annoyance, including Angel and Sheeree.
  • Natsu knocking Lady out to prevent her from trying to fight a demonically empowered Arkham with her injuries is mostly a somber moment, but Sheeree, Wendy, and Carla's shocked responses add a hint of levity, as does Dante's wry observation.
    Dante: You know she's probably gonna kill you for that, right?
  • As Dante and Natsu prepare to enter the Demon Realm with Carla, they ask the white Exceed if she wants to back out. Carla says that she won't, knowing Happy wouldn't either. Natsu chuckles at the statement and does Happy's "You liiike him" tease, much to her embarrassment.
    • During the same scene, Natsu notes the irony of them entering hell by flying upwards, something that Dante and Carla admit is amusing.
  • Upon seeing Arkham in Sparda's image, Dante says it's like looking into a backed-up toilet, with Carla noting that it's like Dante to always antagonize the enemy, no matter how dire the situation is.
  • Then when Arkham mutates further, his new appearance makes Natsu burst out laughing.
    Natsu: NOW THAT IS STARING INTO A BACKED-UP TOILET! HA HA HA! A PIECE OF CRAP ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE A PIECE OF CRAP! HA HA HA HA HA HA!
    Carla: (thinking) Disgusting. Accurate, but disgusting.
    Dante: Dude, my father wasn't so hideous. Can't you tell by looking at me?
• Ch 58 Dawn of Light
  • Gray and Juvia come to Lyon's aid, and Lyon immediately becomes stricken with love at the sight of Juvia like in canon, much to the water mage's embarrassment and confusion.
  • After Trish's entrance we have this exchange.
    Warren: Talk about shocking, eh Trish.
    Trish: That joke is about as old as Sparda.
  • The Trimens begin complimenting Trish on her power and appearance upon meeting her. Trish is not impressed in the slightest, and a jealous Sherry pouts that her entrance wasn't that impressive.
  • Freed and Evergreen's concern for Mira fighting after being through a rough battle with Beelzebub is touching. Ichiya? He says it's not befitting of ladies to push themselves while speaking in a semi-perverted tone. Bickslow and his dolls are annoyed.
    Bickslow: Keep those kinds of thoughts to yourself buddy.
    Bickslow's dolls: So gross!
  • At one point in the fight with Arkham, Carla says Happy's "Aye, sir!" when Natsu tells her to fly him up close to Arkham. She immediately wonders why she said that with a red face.
  • Just how anticlimactically Dante getting Vergil to leave the demon world is, slugging him in the gut when he's briefly distracted and lugging him over the shoulder after that knocks him unconscious. The sheer amount of angst his brother avoids compared to his canon self... as a result if being sucker punched!
  • Just as Lucy is worrying about those who were still in the collapsing tower, the group hears screaming as Natsu skids onto the ground face first, followed by the others making their own shaky, but safer, landings.
    Gray: There they are, always with the dramatic entrance.
• Ch 59 A Bittersweet Aftermath
  • The fact that Makarov managed to sneak up on Vergil and greets him with a casual "hi there", prompting genuine surprise from the stoic Son of Sparda.
  • Seeing Satan again, Natsu is ready for a rematch, only to be comically shocked when Satan turns down the challenge, preferring to rest.
  • Mammon and Lyon end up bickering with each other over Juvia, leading to Macao and Wakaba joking that Gray has some competition.
  • Lisanna finds herself being surrounded and hit on by the Trimen, irritating Natsu much to Happy's amusement.
    Happy: Ooh Natsu, you got some competition.
    Natsu: Shut up.
  • Evergreen expressing annoyance at Elfman's constant use of "a real man", to which he responds that she's not a man, so she can't talk. Mirajane notes that's not a great counterargument with a wince.
  • Dante meeting Lamia Scale has Toby asking him so many questions that Yuka has to pull him away by the ear, and Sherry hitting on him.
    Sherry: So, you got a girlfriend?
    Dante: Yep, I got ladies lining up the door at my place.
    Cana: Since when?
    Gajeel: If you're a ladies' man, then Salamander's a genius.
    Panther-Lily: Now, now, there's no need to be blunt.
  • When Ichiya begins getting up close to her, Erza is about ready to punch him again. However, Lady beats her to it by kicking him down a hill.
  • When Lahar and the Rune Knights announce themselves, Natsu dryly remarks that they already know who he is, while Lucy and Happy comment on getting deja vu, everyone remembering the last time this happened and anticipating it won't end well here either.
  • As Mammon lets the Rune Knights arrest him, he quickly swipes Lahar's glasses off his face. Many of the wizards present burst out laughing.
    Natsu: (snickering) Okay, that was pretty funny.
  • Satan doesn't resist arrest either, eagerly saying going to jail will give him a chance to fight some of the inmates.
  • After all the criminals have been arrested, Natsu gives an exasperated "oh, what now" when Lahar mentions there's one more issue to deal with.

Tenrou Island

• Ch 60 He Who Extinguishes Life
  • Dante arm-wrestling Natsu and Gajeel at the same time, and sincerely commends them when they seem to be winning... Right before using his Devil Trigger to win the matches. Naturally, a brawl breaks out afterwards.
  • After sharing her Dark and Troubled Past with Makarov, Lady breaks down, hugging him and fully accepting Fairy Tail as a Family of Choice... But tightens her grip and threatens to kill him if he touches her ass.
  • Dante overheard Lucy and Lisanna'a talk about their plan to share Natsu to their embarrassment. He promises to keep it a secret, remarking Happy would have a field day with it.
• Ch 61 The S-Class Trials
  • The chapter opens with Lucy enjoying a relaxing shower, with Cana saying the bathtub is nice. Lucy starts to agree, before shouting at yet another intrusion.
  • Seeing everyone unusually worked up, Lucy starts to worry that something bad will happen soon. A nonchalant Dante remarks that he looks forward to it, saying he's starting to get bored.
    Lucy: What do you mean 'bored'?! Less than a week ago we were in the fight for our lives inside a freaking haunted tower!
    Dante: Trust me, things like this are actually periodic for me.
    Mirajane: Yeah, same for us even before you joined Fairy Tail, Dante. I'm still a bit surprised you're not used to it already Lucy.
    Lucy: Is it wrong that I want a chance to relax without worrying about the end of the world?!
  • Carla reveals that she has some measure of control over her Clairvoyance powers, managing to predict that Wakaba will approach Macao to talk about the youngsters. He does... more specifically their derrieres and legs to the shame of those listening, with Modeus attempting to cover Wendy's ears.
    Wendy: That is so cool.
    Lisanna: Yeah, hit it on the nose. You didn't tell us it would be so creepy though.
    Modeus: I would have preferred if Wendy didn't hear something like that.
    Lady: Can I please go over there and kill those idiots?
    Carla: Quite honestly, we all should have seen that coming.
  • The S-Class candidates Oh, Crap! moment at realizing they may have to fight Erza, Mirajane and Gildarts.
    Lisanna: I'm starting to wish I wasn't picked.
    Happy: Sweet tuna!
    Natsu: I'm finally gonna fight old man Gildarts!
    Gray: That's not good news.
  • Juvia is hesitant to join in the S-Class Trials, clearly desiring to be Gray's partner. Modeus offers to be her partner, and manages to convince her to join by pointing out that if she passes, Gray would look up to her. Cue her Imagine Spot of Gray accepting her with open arms, with the two atop a mountain for some reason.
    • The fact that Modeus suggested this makes it even funnier!
  • As Natsu and Dante train together, a watching Happy and Lady comment on the close bond between the two. A smirking Lady then asks if Happy wants to spar as well, which he fearfully refuses.
• Ch 62 Who are the Lucky Ones?
  • The opening has everyone barely able to stand due to the intense heatwave, with the exception of the demons (Dante, Trish, and Modeus) present. Gray in particular gets scolded by Trish for stripping naked while Wendy is present, and their argument only stops when Dante tosses Gray his own swimming trunks.
  • Makarov reveals that Tenrou Island (where they will be holding the Trials) is the resting place of the first master of Fairy Tail, and a sacred site for the guild... while clad in a Hawaiian shirt and shorts! When Gray incredulously asks why he isn't wearing something more formal, Makarov retorts that he doesn't want to hear that from someone who was naked five seconds ago.
  • Amongst the groups making their way to the island, Juvia uses her Water Body to travel as a literal wave, while Modeus surfs on it using his swords! Arguably funnier since he does this even after confirming that it's not a race and remains composed throughout.
  • Natsu's thought process on how to pick a route. And Happy's response to his decisions.
    Natsu: If we take Route E, I bet we'd have to fight Erza! I'd pick Route D to fight Dante, but that's already taken!
    Happy: I wouldn't wanna pick either of those paths!
  • Dante (in Devil Trigger) remarks that he and Lady made it there first. Lady (who he has in a Bridal Carry) asks him to put her down. After he jokes she loves it she (with a deadpan expression) simply decks him in the face.
  • Lucy and Cana's Oh, Crap! reactions after realizing that they have to fight Freed and Bickslow, who they've both lost to before.
    Cana: (wide-eyed) Okay Lucy... scale of one to ten... how screwed are we?
    Lucy: Eleven... give or take a hundred.
  • The fight itself is a long string of funny moments, owing to Cana's ruthless exploitation of Freeds weakness to Fanservice, as well as Freed and Bickslow's constant confusion at Lucy's Celestial Spirits and their quirks.
    • Rather than face Freed directly, Cana keeps him subdued by summoning illusory bikini babes, leaving him mortified.
      Freed: What sort of vulgar sorcery is this?! Summoning bikini babes?!
      Bickslow: You have any idea how many men would kill for that power?!
      Lucy: Whoa! That worked!?
    • When summoned, for some reason Virgo appears in a swimsuit, to Freeds mortification, and starts listing nonsensical 'tips' about being a good maid, before being pelted by Bickslows dolls.
      Lucy:(wide, circular eyes) COME ON!
      Cana:(same expression) WHY WOULD YOU SUMMON YOUR MAID RIGHT NOW?!
      Lucy: Hey, she usually kicks ass, alright!? But sometimes I don't know what's going on inside her head!
    • After summoning Ares, a desperate Lucy tells her to do 'anything'. She obliges by trapping Freed and Bickslow in her wool, prompting the following exchange.
      Freed: What is this strange sensation? My body feels wooly and warm, as if I'm being hugged by a fluffy cloud.
      Bickslow: Look man, we all gotta go through puberty sometime but could you hold off until after we beat these bimbos?!
    • Lucy manages to summon Aquarius... who simply bonks her and Cana on the head before complaining about them interrupting her date. It quickly devolves into a shouting match between the spirit and Cana, with Lucy deciding to stay out of it. Even funnier, Freed patiently waits there while the whole thing goes on, only resuming his attack after Aquarius leaves.
      Aquarius: (regarding Cana's Stripperific attire) Wow. I didn't know girls were so desperate these days. Poor thing, you'll never land a man that way.
      Cana: I bet you settled on the first ugly merman that showed you his trident. It must be rough when you're twenty thousand leagues of pure skank.
      Aquarius: Rummy wench!
      Cana: Filthy sea beast!
      Lucy: Maybe I should try to separate them... nah I'll just stay here.
    • Before leaving, Aquarius snipes at Lucy that she has her own man, and doesn't need to share. An embarassed Lucy asks how she even knows about that, and quickly changes the topic when Cana asks what she meant.
    • Lucy's incredulity when Cana tries the same strategy on Freed, doubting he'd fall for it a second time. She also shows discomfort at winning in such a way, in contrast to a shameless Cana.
      Freed: Not this again!
      Lucy: (wide-eyed, dot pupils) Are you freaking kidding me?!
      Freed: Please! I can't fight like this! Don't you want to win fair-and-square...?!
      Cana: I got your fair right here!
      (Summons an entire cage of bikini babes!)
• Ch 63 Trial by Fire and Fear
  • In flashbacks, we get a montage of Natsu challenging Gildarts to fights, who proceeds to effortlessly defeat him each time. At one point he even scolds Natsu for failing to return Lisanna's greeting before attacking him.
  • From the same scene, we get a glimpse of Erza and Mirajanes rivalry, and it's clear the two are just as bad as Natsu and Gray. They briefly to a truce to watch Natsu and Gildart's fight when the latter accepts his challenge.
    Mirajane: I think we should call a truce this once. Their fight's gonna be way more brutal than ours.
    Erza: Good point. Let's go check it out.
  • Upon seeing Gildarts, Happy immediately starts making his way back to the entrance with their supplies, having already given up.
    Happy: Figured we might as well go home.
    Natsu: Have some faith in me little buddy. (cracks knuckles) If you really think about it, Gildarts should be scared of me. I'm gonna kick his ass and I won't let up until I hear him say 'mercy'!
    Gildarts: (deadpan) Fine, mercy.
    Natsu: You can't say that yet! I haven't even lain a hand on ya!
  • Gildarts One-Hit KO turns Natsu into a bunch of white particles... before they turn into dozens of mini-Natsu's. After the S-Class mage declares the fight over, the Natsu's angrily refute this, before starting several Badass Boast's. Unfortunately, there's so many of them talking at once that it's all drowned out, to Happy and Gildarts confusion.
    • The subsequent 'fight' with Gildarts consists of the mini-Natsu's climbing all over him, pulling at his face, and and generally coming across as a playground skirmish rather than an epic battle. Gildarts gets so annoyed he undoes the spell, clearly fed up with it.
  • Trish setting off an explosion with a well placed lightning bolt to the water Lisanna was superheating: Awesome. Lisanna's incredulous reaction and calling that plan overkill puts it in the Funny category, especially since it could count as Hypocritical Humor, given her own plan to boil the lake away.
    Lisanna: WHAT?! (Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises) I was just trying to evaporate the water, not blow it up!
• Ch 64 Mest
  • Mests Establishing Character Moment, taking Constantly Curious to the extreme. While talking to Wendy he keeps his head craned upwards and his mouth open because he 'wants to know what fresh snow tastes like'. In the middle of their conversation he suddenly jumps into the nearby river simply to know how it feels to float in a river in the middle of winter.
  • Mest getting knocked out in one hit from Gray, with Wendy, who's not even an S-Class candidate, lasting longer than him. Later he wakes up and vows to keep fighting no matter what... only for Wendy to tell him Gray and Loke won already.
    Mest: I'll show them! I'm determined to follow in my masters footsteps! I won't let them beat me!
    Wendy: They already did.
    Mest: YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!
  • Upon realizing Elfman and Evergreen got stuck fighting Erza everyone present winces in sympathy.
    Trish: Oooh yeah sucks to be them. Sorry Lisanna, but your brother's probably dead.
  • Lisanna takes notice of how quiet Natsu is, as he contemplates Gildarts advice.
    Lisanna: Hey Natsu, are you okay?
    Natsu: Yeah... I'm just thinking about some stuff...
    Happy: YOU'RE THINKING!? YOU NEVER DO THAT! BE CAREFUL YOU MIGHT HURT YOURSELF!
  • When the others ask Elfman and Evergreen how they managed to beat Erza, the two nervously deflect the question. Erza later reveals that they used the same ruse as in canon (pretending to be engaged), to the shock of those listening, especially Mirajane.
  • During the second Trial, while most of the teams flee from the monsters on the island, Dante and Lady are excited more than anything, even going starry-eyed before starting the beatdown.
  • Meanwhile, after knocking out a frog monster in one hit, Natsu decides to interrogate it for information on Mavis' grave.
    Natsu: You better tell me where the first Master's grave is right now or I'm gonna burn you to a crisp! You got it?!
    Happy: (wide-eyed) WHAT!? THAT'S COOCOO!
    Frog Monster: I don't know...
    Natsu: (straight-faced) That's cool.
    Happy: IT ANSWERED YOU!?
• Ch 65 Enter the Black Wizard and Grimoire Heart
  • After the confrontation with Zeref, Happy appears and deflates the tension.
    Happy: Natsu, did you need to use the bushes to make a stinky or are we not going to the top?
  • As Cana and Lucy are discussing the win condition of the Trial, neither appears to notice a large lizard sneaking up on them. Just as it closes in Cana nonchalantly stomps on it and kicks it away without even looking.
    • From the same scene, after the girls leave it is revealed the lizard hit Gray, having bit him. The two decide to follow the girls to the grave, though Loke points out how Gray phrased it.
      Gray: Hate to do this to you, Lucy. But this whole trial's about using what you got and I wouldn't be showing off my S-Class potential if I didn't use you.
      Loke: You do realize you sound like a pimp, right?
      Gray: Just shut up and follow them.
  • While the others perform the trial, Wendy and Mest continue to explore the island. Wendy is pleasantly surprised to find some lovely flowers, though she screams when Mest starts to eat them!
    Mest: I must know! I must find out what these never-before-seen flowers taste like!
    Wendy: (x-marks over eyes) But flowers are for looking at! They're not for eating!
• Ch 66 Clash of Light and Darkness
  • After Job berates Zancrow for his exuberance, the latter retorts the priest is just as excited as he is.
    Zancrow: Give me a break, you wannabe priest! You can't tell me you're not excited!
    Job: (monotone) I am in ecstasy.
  • In a flashback, Precht scolds the younger Makarov for constantly picking fights with others, advising him to try and find a peaceful solution. Makarovs response makes it clear it's not the first time he's heard this.
    Makarov: You ever get tired of saying that?
    Precht: (smirks) I'll keep saying it until it sinks into you thick skull, boy.
    Makarov: Seriously, stop calling me 'boy'! I'm forty years old you know!
    Precht: Then act your age.
  • Happy and Carla advise an injured Panther-Lily and Wendy to hang back to conserve their strength. After they concede, Happy arrogantly declares they leave the fighting to the real heroes of the story, prompting an annoyed sweatdrop from the others.
    Panther-Lily: I got enough energy to slap him around a little bit.
    Carla: Lily, now is not the time. You can give him a good smack when we're home.
  • In the middle of beating up Grimoire Hearts Mooks, Natsu airs his anger at them invading their island and turning his scarf black, and growing annoyed when they're to beat up to continue fighting. Upon realizing he's just using them to vent his anger, they all grow indignant.
    Mook A: What!? You're just venting on us!?
    Mook B: What a jerk!
    Mook C: We didn't touch your scarf!
  • As the Eight Kin of Purgatory arrive on the island, Elfman and Evergreen encounter Rustyrose, with his attempts at poetry annoying them both.
    Elfman: Can I punch him now?
    Evergreen: If it'll shut him up, be my guest.
  • While the other Kin of Purgatory land gracefully and encounter Fairy Tail members soon after (with the exception of Ultear, who is searching for Zeref), Kain Hikaru falls face-first into the ground, and quickly forgets part of his mission. Soon after, he gets lost in the forest and the chapter ends with him complaining he can't find anyone before throwing a tantrum.
• Ch 67 The Flame God and the Holy Devil
  • Dante once again expressing his annoyance of people talking more than him, specifically Jobs 'preaching', punctuated with a shot to the shoulder.
  • In the midst of proclaiming his superiority to Natsu, Zancrow dismisses dragons as 'flying lizards' before picking up a nearby gecko and starting the following exchange.
    Zancrow: Wanna ask this guy if he's got any magic?
    Natsu: Hey man! Igneel's not a freaking lizard!
    Wendy: Yeah, you tell him! Grandeeney's not a big lizard either, and she helped Sparda and Igneel beat Mundus too!
    Carla: Don't encourage him Wendy!
• Ch 68 The Grand Magic World
  • After explaining their encounter with Job (a Devil Slayer) and hearing about Zancrow (a God Slayer), Lady expresses annoyance at all the different types of Slayer magic available.
    Lady: Dragon Slayer, Devil Slayer, God Slayer?! Christ! How many 'Slayers' are there?!
  • Rustyrose continues speaking poetry much to Elfman and Evergreen’s annoyance, most notably this exchange.
    Rustyrose: Sparks of passion erupt into flames between those in love.
    Elfman and Evergreen: WE ARE NOT IN LOVE, ASSHOLE!
  • Most of Elfman and Evergeen’s argument in general, such as when their attempt to run from Rustyrose takes them to the edge of a cliff, with Elfman carrying Evergeen over his shoulder.
    Elfman: End of the line, huh?
    Evergreen: I’ve had it up to here with you! What kind of lame-brain buffoon runs for his life without even bothering once to look where he’s running?!
    Elfman: You love complaining, don’t ya?! If that’s how you wanna be, you can go the rest of the way on your own!
    Evergeen: So not only are you an idiot, you’d also leave a crippled comrade to fend for herself?!
    Elfman: You look healthy as a horse to me!
  • Elfman soon comes up with a plan (with Evergreen saying “You thinking? Not a chance”) that causes Belcusas to fall off the cliff, which involves Elfman throwing Evergeen into the sky as a distraction. Evergreen is not amused and kicks Elfman in the face, which leads to Rustyrose speaking up again.
    Rustyrose: A heated discussion followed by intense physical contact? Today’s lovers have no sense of shame, do they?
    Elfman and Evergreen: SHUT UP!
  • After Dante wakes up he thanks Lady for saving him from Job, with Lady saying that they’re partners…so she’ll put it on Dante’s tab, with Dante saying he already paid it off. Lady jokes back that she’ll just start a new one.
  • Kain Hikaru is still lost, having made a campfire and roasting several birds before pulling out an ice cream cone, only to find that it’s melted. Kain can only let out a Big "NO!" in response.
• Ch 69 The Bonds of Family
  • Upon first meeting Ultear, Dante says that she’s kinda hot, much to Lady and Lisanna’s annoyance.
    Lady: Now is not the time to start flirting.
  • Likewise, Ultear making her offer to Dante can give a few chuckles from the others reactions.
    Ultear: Oh please, there's no need to be hostile.
    Lisanna: Your guild declared open war on us, invaded our sacred ground, and we've been fighting for our lives while you're trying to get your hands on arguably the most evil wizard in history! That doesn't count as hostile?!
    Lady: Sure could have fooled the hell out of me!
    Ultear: I was speaking to Dante, not all of you.
    Natsu: Now you're just gonna ignore us!? How rude!
• Ch 70 Awakening
  • Lucy and Trish meet Kain Hikaru, and they are both completely dumbfounded. First he asks them for a sample of their hair so he can control them through his Cursey Doll. When Trish scolds him for explaining his magic to his enemies, he treats it as a grand revelation, to her incredulity. Then, when Lucy asks Trish about voodoo dolls, Trish says what Kain is selling is likely bull (as in bullshit), and Kain wonders if there is a bull around. And then, Kain demonstrates his magic by putting his own hair on his doll, giving it to Lucy so she can try, leading to this exchange between Trish and Kain.
    Trish: Question, were you ever dropped as a baby?
    Kain: Yes, I was. Twenty times actually.
    Lucy: Twenty times?!
    Trish: (thinking) That explains a lot.
    • Lucy and Trish then play around with the doll, causing whatever happens to it to happen to Kain himself. Lucy tosses the doll around, causing Kain to fly around in the air, and even spins him around and puts him in yoga positions. Trish then takes control of the doll and makes Kain hit himself in the face.
      Trish: Stop hitting yourself! Stop hitting yourself! Why are you hitting yourself?
      Lucy: Classic.
  • When Lucy and Trish begin fighting Kain, the former summons Taurus, who Kain asks if he can take a bite out of. He also looks at Sagittarius and Aquarius with hungry looks on his face when they’re summoned.
  • Aquarius admits that the reason she was so hostile to Lucy before was to try and get her to toughen up, and compliments her for standing up to her... but warns that if she ever slaps her again, she'll regret it.
  • Upon seeing Kain, Dante comments on his weight.
    Dante: I’ve heard of obesity, but that guy looks like someone who actually ate something with obesity!
  • This exchange between Dante and Kain, which is a Shout-Out to SpongeBob SquarePants.
    Kain: You must be Mr. Dante. Don’t you underestimate me! I may not look like much, but I’m one of the deadly Eight Kin of Purgatory! I’m Kain Hikaru!
    Dante: I don’t care if you’re Mundus’ right hand. You’re going down, Tubby!
    Kain: (shocked) Tubby…? (cries, then grows angry) NOBODY CALLS ME TUBBY!
• Ch 71 Hope and Love vs Despair and Hate
  • Amidst sharing information about Grimoire Heart and their goals, Natsu starts to wonder why so many people they fight want to Take Over the World, having grown sick of hearing that again and again.
    Natsu: Why do bad guys always wanna take over the world? Sounds like a huge pain in the ass if you ask me.
    Lady: They think they're gods or something like that. Basically, more psychopaths who think the world should revolve around them.
    Dante: Sounds about right.
  • The group is naturally distrustful of Doranbolt when he returns to help, citing his infiltration of the guild and manipulating Wendy, despite Wendy and Panther-Lily vouching for him. Then Happy approaches her with a doll and sets off the below exchange.
    Happy: Show me on this doll exactly where he touched you.
    Everyone WHAT?!
    (Dante, Natsu, Carla, Trish, Lady, Lucy and Lisanna looking at him with collective Death Glare, glowing red eyes and surrounded by flames, as Doranbolt looks on in comical fear)
    Wendy: No, it wasn't like that! (runs between them) he didn't do anything to hurt me, I swear!
    Panther-Lily: Once again, I can vouch for that. He did indeed protect Wendy, and while he is a spy, he doesn't seem like the pedophilic type.
  • In the midst of their fight, Meredy manages to use a Sensory Link on her opponent, using her feeling to link her senses to Gray. Juvia (who up until this point was taking the fight deadly seriously) proceeds to swoon with a Luminescent Blush and wedding bells in her head as they 'live their lives as one'. A deadpan Meredy clarifies it's only their senses that are linked. Meanwhile, Gray is confused as to why he's started blushing all of a sudden.
• Ch 72 Fairy Glitter and the Tenrou Tree
  • When Bluenote Stinger asks Fairy Tail where he can find Mavis’s grave on the island, everybody’s wondering why he wants to know. Happy’s theory leads to this exchange with Trish and Carla.
    Happy: I think I just figured out what he’s after!
    Carla: I’m sure we’ll all end up dumber once we hear what you have to say, but by all means go ahead.
    Happy: Mr. Crazy Ponytail wants to be an S-Class Wizard too, so he came here to make us accept him as a member of the guild!
    Trish: Yep, there go my braincells.
  • After Bluenote says he's uninterested in Grimoire Hearts mission to free Mundus, only wanting more power, Natsu and Lucy snark about dealing with another power hungry psycho, the latter calling him a 'wannabe Vergil'.
  • Natsu snarking to Bluenote, who’s looking for Fairy Glitter, to hit up a craft store if he wants some glitter. Bluenote then uses his magic to squish Natsu, who says he’s a human pancake.
  • During Cana's Big Damn Heroes moment, Natsu gets depressed when he realises that her finding the grave first means he won't make it to S-Class this time. An exasperated Lady scolds him for his Skewed Priorities.
  • The fact that even in his thoughts, Rustyrose still speaks in poetry.
  • As the Tenrou Tree is falling, Natsu's group gives some comical reactions.
    Natsu: WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON!?
    Lady: KEEP MOVING OR WE'RE GONNA GET CRUSHED!
    Happy: PLEASE HURRY CARLA!
    Carla: You're behind me!
• Ch 74 Frozen Kindred Spirits
  • As Natsu's group makes their way to the basecamp, a tired Happy moans that he's dying of starvation. An unamused Lady reminds him that none of them have had a chance to eat since this whole thing started, to which he snarks he'll die of a 'sympathy overdose' instead. This leads to everyone else admitting they're actually rather hungry at this point, and start exchanging some banter over the subject.
  • After Gray rescues and unconscious Juvia from Ultear, she manages to wake just by him asking her to. When he tasks her with chasing Meredy and Zeref, Juvia is given a painful reminder that she broke her leg beforehand. She decides to get around this by crawling after the fleeing Meredy, who is comically frightened at the young woman chasing after her like a demented asylum escapee.
  • Having regrouped at the basecamp, Fairy Tail starts to hash out a strategy to deal with Grimoire Heart. They are distracted and confused by Virgo digging pitfall traps, the girls questioning why she's doing so wearing a bikini. When she continues to pose, Trish asks who she's even doing it for.
• Ch 75 Into the Devil’s Heart
  • Rustyrose cannot catch a break this chapter. First, his Evil Laugh is interrupted by Trish knocking him unconscious with with the butt of her gun. Then later, Bickslow casually reveals he left his unconscious body on a raft floating down a river. One of the mighty Eight Kin of Purgatory everyone.
  • During his fight with Lisanna Kain Hikaru asks her if she wants to get together with him.
    Lisanna: Forget it! I already got a man in my life and it’s not you!
  • Macao worries that Alzack and Bisca might have ditched Romeo to make out somewhere. A deapan Wakaba scoffs at the idea of those two making out.
  • The various members of the guild teasing Romeo about having a Precocious Crush on Wendy after Bisca notices him staring at Reedus’s picture of the Sky Maiden.
  • As the Exceeds search for Hades’ heart, Carla suggests splitting up. When Lily, who’s afraid of the thunderstorm outside the ship doesn’t seem eager about the plan, Happy teases if he’s scared, with Lily saying no as he makes his head grow.
    • When they split off and start opening doors, Happy ends up finding a bathroom, and Carla literally runs into a brick wall, making her ask what kind of ship this is. And Lily finds Baskerville, a demon dog that begins chasing the Exceeds, with Lily exclaiming he found something more terrifying than lightning.
  • Dante having to remind Wendy to cast the anti-motion sickness spell on Natsu so he won't be disable if the ship starts moving. Natsu himself is embarrassed that he forgot about that.
  • Just how casually Elfman accepts Lisanna using him as a bludgeon against Kain.
  • Like Dante, Cana calls Kain Hikaru “Tubby”, much to the latter’s annoyance and anger.
  • After Kain dodges Cana’s hole attack by turning his body to cotton, he asks her if she’d like to cuddle with him. Cana responds by drenching him in cold water, saying he needs a shower.
    • Kain then ends up in a fantasy land where he thinks Lisanna and Cana are both fighting for his affection, and then Levy shows up to help. This makes Kain think that all three of them want to date him, complete with an imagine spot of them wearing bikinis, and then he says he can only go steady with one of them.
      Kain: So, will the lady who really wants to date me, please step forward!
      Lisanna, Cana, and Levy: Don’t look at me.
      Kain: WHY ARE WOMEN EVERYWHERE SO CRUEL?!
  • Kain is finally taken out when Lisanna, Levy and Cana combine their attacks together. As he flies off, Kain asks where the fun is in being beaten by girls again.
  • A lot of Dante and Laxus' pre-fight banter is worth a chuckle.
    Laxus: Red coat, white hair, a fancy sword... you must be that Devil Hunter I've heard so much about. Dante, right?
    Dante: Yep, And you're that grown man who threw a temper tantrum like a little kid when he tried to blow up Magnolia with lightning-charged bombs to try and become Fairy Tail's master.
    Laxus: Uh huh. Guess I was a bit of a spoiled brat back then. You gotta be pretty strong if you're the only guy who's standing while the rest of your buddies look like a bunch of tattered rags.
    Natsu: (chuckles) No joke.
    Dante: Believe me, I feel like a huge wreck on the inside.
• Ch 76 Out of the Abyss - Into the Daylight
  • Happy stops in the tunnels when he find Hades’ heart, leading to Carla, who’s behind him, to bump into his rear, and Lily to bump into Carla’s own rear. Happy becomes jealous over this, and nearly challenges Lily to a fight until Carla stops him.
  • While Panther-Lily enjoys wielding Baskerville, his new Devil Arm Sword, the force of his first swing sends not only the Grimioire Heart Mooks flying, but the gate to the room containing Hades heart as well, blowing Happy and Carla against the opposite wall. After his next swings leaves Happy flattened against the wall, the blue Exceed complains that next time Natsu wants something destroyed, he can do it himself.
  • Dante is amused by the fact that after all the horrific demons he's killed with ease, he was pushed to his very limit against, in his own words, a 'cranky old man'. Everyone else shares a laugh over this.
  • Seeing the poor state his iconic coat is in, Dante says he can simply get a new one, with the Fairy Tail logo on the back, and possibly silhouettes of women. Lucy cracks that that's the closest women would willingly get to him, to his amusement.
  • Once Dante and Natsu’s team meet up with the others, Lady offers Dante a kiss on the cheek after they see Lisanna kiss Natsu on the lips. Dante asks if she could put another on his lips, with Lady telling him not to push it.
  • Upon seeing Laxus again, Makarov initially thanks him for his help, and then angrily scolds him for coming to Tenrou Island after being expelled, even making his head grow huge. A bewildered Lily notes the size of Makarov’s head while Laxus, annoyed, says he’ll have a heart attack yelling like that.
  • The Thunder Legion all leap on Laxus when they’re reunited with him, which only annoys him further.
  • Moments after Hades is defeated and all of Fairy Tail regroup, Natsu immediately wants to get back to the S-Class Trials, much to the annoyance of many who are injured from fighting Grimoire Heart. He almost gets into it with Gajeel before passing out from using so much energy in Lightning-Flame mode.
  • Lucy and Lisanna ask for help carrying the unconscious Natsu, noting he's rather heavy. Lady and Trish remark that the two have it easier, since they're carrying Dante, who is heavier. Annoyed, he points out that he is very much conscious and can hear them.
  • While Natsu is sleeping, Lisanna ties his hair into pigtails. Mira finds it funny, while Elfman says it looks unmanly.
  • When Juvia returns to where the guild is camping, she asks Gray to spank her for failing to catch Zeref, complete with brandishing her rear to him. She ends up chasing him throughout the campground when Gray refuses. Funny already, but then Dante has this to say.
    Dante: Dude, do you have any idea how many men would kill to be in your position?
  • Upon Laxus' return, Evergreen asks him to punish Elfman for "all the terrible things he did to [her]". Laxus simply asks the man when the two started dating, and despite Elfmans sputtering, simply gives him a hand on the shoulder and a nod, to his confusion.
    Elfman: What in the hell is that supposed to mean?!
  • Natsu immediately wakes up when Gildarts returns to the camp, challenging him to a fight, which ends with Gildarts knocking him out with one punch.
    • He later wakes up again, and asks Wendy if she can help her big brother out in a whining tone of voice. The prompts the others to tell him he has to wait in line like the rest of them.
  • Erza’s nurse outfit like in canon. Even funnier is Dante jumps to the front of the line, followed by Gray, Gajeel, Natsu, Bickslow, Elfman, Makarov, Gildarts, and Laxus. Dante then finds himself tangled in bandages with Gray and Gajeel.
  • After the above, Wendy outright asks if the guys are going to Erza because she has bigger boobs than her. A shocked Modeus says she's too young to think about that sort of thing, and Lady comically cocks her guns, offering to kill them. Upon seeing Erza's 'bandaging' actually hurts the boys, she relents, finding it amusing.
• Ch 77 Acnologia
  • The start of the chapter has Makarov announce that all the female guild members will now have to wear nurse outfits or school swimsuits. Lady asks if she can kill him and Lucy is against it completely. Dante and Erza meanwhile are completely on board with the idea.
  • Natsu is not happy over the S-Class trials being cancelled because of the fight with Grimoire Heart, asking to be made S-Class. Makarov decides to handle it by offering Natsu a promotion if he can defeat him in combat. Dante bets ten bucks Natsu won’t last ten seconds. Sure enough in less than three seconds Natsu is flattened against a tree by Makarov’s giant fist. Dante, Erza and Gildarts are left smirking at the scene, having expected the outcome.
    • Also mentioning is Dante and Lady’s exchange before the fight when Natsu is insistent on being promoted.
    Dante: Looks like that lightning power he’s got fried the last of his brain cells.
    Lady: You’re saying that like he ever had any to begin with.
  • After Cana's punishment is decided, Trish comes forward saying she has some more information to reveal. Natsu promptly lampshades all The Reveal's that have going on in the arc.
    Natsu: Man, everyone's got confessions today. What is this, a church?
    Trish: It's not a confession, but more so a revelation.
    • After Trish reveals that Capricorn confirmed Dante and Lucy are cousins, Lady points out that means Vergil is her cousin as well, causing a dark cloud of depression to form over everyone.
    • The others ragging on Dante about his last name of 'Redgrave', Natsu even asking if 'Crimson Corpse' was taken.
  • Laxus and Lisanna’s reunion has him pulling on her face to confirm that she’s real, then patting her on the head and asking what death was like, with Lisanna stating that she wasn’t dead. Then Laxus learns about her Dragon Take-Over power, and is quick to figure out its origins with some teasing.
    Laxus: This wouldn’t have anything to do with Natsu, would it? What, you went to bed with him or something?
    Lisanna: It wasn’t anything like that! Now lay off! What happens between me and Natsu is our own business!
    Laxus: So, does that mean you two finally hooked up? About time.
  • Dante, Natsu and Gildarts are fishing to unwind, while Happy hangs out nearby,, the former in particular glad to have some downtime. When Natsu says this is boring him and Happy shows his eagerness to eat what they've caught so far, Gildarts gives an impassioned speech about the importance of fishing, even calling it 'part of a man's spiritual journey'.
    Gildarts: Eating the fish isn't the important part! It's the thrill of using your hunting instincts! The sense of becoming one with mother nature! The name of the game is survival of the fittest! This is the playground where men can feel alive!
    Dante: No offense, but I'm not a big fan of the whole 'survival of the fittest' shtick. Heard that whole speech so many times before.
    Gildarts: There's a big difference between fishing and fighting demons and genocidal psychopaths you know?
    • When the girls come and ask them to give Cana and Gildarts some privacy for their talk. They decide to pull away the others, to their complaints, especially since Natsu had just caught a bite.
      Natsu: But my journey...!
      Happy: My dinner...!
      Dante: My R&R...!
    • As a the group hides and watches Cana and Gildarts interaction, Lucy cheers on her friend, before asking Dante, Natsu and Happy what they're still there. Dante responds thusly.
      Dante: Don't know, why are you here? It's a private conversation, right?
  • Dante and Natsu are caught off-guard by Cana revealing that Gildarts is her father, with the former lampshading the absurd amount of amount of reveals that have happened since they came to the island.
    Dante: First my old man was a founder of Fairy Tail, then Lucy and I are cousins, now this?! What is this, the book of Revelations from the Bible?!
  • When Gildarts learns that Cana is his daughter, he begins listing off the many, many women he knew that could possibly be the mother. Dante can only face-palm at this while Trish looks annoyed, Cana looks angry, and Lucy and Lisanna feel ashamed.
    Gildarts: (at seeing Cana's angry face) No, Silvia! That's gotta be it! It's that face! She made it a lot!
• Ch 78 Epilogue - Fairy Tail's Stylish Return
  • We cut to Fairy Tail after seven years, and our first glimpse of Macao and Wakaba is, once again, arguing after the former worries if Alzack and Bisca ditched Romeo on a job to go make out.
  • Amidst the members feeling sorry for themselves, and generally displaying how their morale has fallen, Vijeeter displays, his latest dance routine, 'Dance of the Pathetic and Feeble', having drawn inspiration from their own guild.
    Max: (eyebrow twitch) If he doesn't cut it out, I'm gonna have to strangle him.
  • Ichiya shows up in the Christina Advanced reaches the others by leaping out... and falling face-first onto the ground, before carrying on with a pose from his current position like nothing happened. The Tri-men are revealed to be with him, and point out he doesn't have to jump off every time, indicating this is a regular occurence.
  • The rest of Fairy Tail get annoyed when the Tri-men spend the first few minutes flirting with the female members, especially since all three flirted with Laki, then Kinana in quick succession.
  • As the group approaching Tenrou Island says they should prepare for the worst case scenario, Jet and Droy start doing a happy dance over the idea of seeing Levy again, complete with floating hearts.
  • Right after his Big Damn Heroes moment, Dante responds to Romeo shakily asking him if it's really him with his usual sass. Made all the better by the fact this is the first thing he says to the kid after seven years.
    Dante: You know another man as good looking as I am? The correct answer is 'no', by the way.
  • The spirit of the little girl that led the others to the remaining Tenrou Island members casually reveals that she is Mavis Vermillion, the first guild master of Fairy Tail, prompting a Big "WHAT?!" from all conscious members, to her amusement. Already funny, but made even better by the her comment implying that the spirit next to her (who is revealed to be Sparda) advised her to elicit such a reaction. Just the image of the Legendary Dark Knight helping his friend Troll someone is worth a chuckle.

Devil's Retribution

Seven Year Gap

• Ch. 1 The Empty Seven Years
  • Erza is upset at missing Alzack and Bisca's wedding, and frantically shakes Max while moaning at the unfairness of it to his annoyance.
  • Like in canon, Reedus' drawings of how Wendy and the Exceeds would look in seven years. His drawing of an adult Wendy being... not as endowed as the other females in the guild triggers her insecurities, with Trish expressing sympathy. The latter awkwardly offers some 'womanly tips' which the young dragon slayer desperately accepts.
  • Dante and Lucy go to return to their apartments. The cousins are then united in despair at the one opponent neither was ever able to vanquish on their own: debt.
    Dante/Lucy: Shit. Landlady.
  • The two discuss all the changes that happened over the seven years, during which Lucy comments Jet and Droy 'got older and wider' to Dante's amusement. Dante himself brings up the many revelations on Tenrou Island before rhetorically asking if Natsu has an evil brother. About that...
  • Natsu and Happy briefly think that the landlady wearing Lucy's old clothes is Lucy, thinking she somehow let herself go enough in the hour since they saw her last.
• Ch. 2 A Girl Named Patty
  • Patty providing a running commentary of Dante's obvious flaws. One such example is when she asks to see his show so that there will be one person in the audience.
  • After dispatching the demon on the train, Virgo tells an unaware Patty that she merely swatted a fly.
  • While Makarovs reunion with the other Wizard Saints are touching, an irate Aurora warns him not to touch her rear like last time.
  • At the end of the chapter, rather than redecorate Dante's office like in canon, Patty covers his apartment in pink decorations, to Lucy's amusement. The latter is happy that it's his apartment that was broken into for once. The fact that the young girl ate his strawberry sundae as 'payment' adds insult to injury, to Dante's annoyance.
• Ch. 3 Not Love
  • When Lucy resolves to become stronger as a devil hunter and do her uncle proud Trish can't help but comment on her previous track record.
    Trish: Even though you always scream and run away from a fight?
    Lucy: I swear, you guys just love killing my self-esteem don't you?
  • While talking to Brad, Dante and Erza order cake and a pizza respectively. While Erza specifies a strawberry shortcake, Dante says any pizza is fine provided it doesn't have olives. The staff somehow failed to listen, with olives being the first thing he notices on the pizza.
  • Upon hearing that Belphegor wishes to enter Earthland to obtain more power, Natsu complains that he's sick of having to deal with demons who want power for the sake of more power, finding it tiresome at this point. When one of the demons minions starts to rant about his masters power an annoyed Natsu punches him aside, finding his rant more annoying than threatening.
• Ch. 4 Be Careful What You Wish For
  • While the others wonder how Natsu and Happy can pack away so much food Erza points out that Natsu's magic naturally consumes a lot of energy, letting him burn off calories... But Happy is a total mystery.
  • Erza's plan for her and Dante to infiltrate Devil's Prison? Find a bunch of thugs, beat them up and let the guards arrest them. When the two need to be put into the cells for rowdier prisoners they nonchalantly snap their handcuffs before roughing up and insulting the warden.
    • Related to above, Erza mainly takes issue with how unprofessional the warden is when dealing with prisoners. When she and Dante are put in the same cell, she cites how sloppy it is to keep male and female prisoners in the same area, surprising Dante, who thought it just part of the act.
  • After the mask demon refuses to grant Grey, Lucy and Natsu's wishes, Happy makes one for unlimited fish. After a moment of disbelief the demon breaks character to call it the dumbest wish he's ever heard to the others agreement and Happy's indignation.
  • When talking about how 'evil' Patty is from having to deal with her stubbornness and brattiness both Natsu and Gajeel compare her to Lucy, to her indignation.
• Ch. 5 Poker King and Rock Queen
  • While hashing out a plan to attend the poker game to find King everyone unanimously agrees that Dante sucks at poker, including Wendy!
  • Kings Evil Gloating is interrupted when the supposedly dead Dante shoots a bullet at him. While the demon is incredulous, the members of Fairy Tail nonchalantly remark that Dante's survived impalement plenty of times before. After outlining how they set their trap Natsu gives the final insult in.
    Natsu: Good old plan D! Deceive the demonic dummies.
  • With the other Fairy Tail group, upon meeting the team of treasure hunters they were hired to protect, most of said clients spend the first few minutes gushing over Mira. Lady remarks that magazine models still hold power over their fans after seven years really sells it.
  • At the end of the chapter, Natsu, Gajeel, Dante and Patty play a game of poker, and everyone is shocked at the fact that Natsu manages to win, despite only learning the rules on their last job. This shock turns to horror when he reveals that listening in on the game between all the high level players let him learn all their tricks, meaning he essentially became a master poker player overnight. Made especially hilarious by the fact that he has an evil smile the whole time, causing Lisanna (who explained the rules to him) to lament that she's created a monster.
    • Just prior to this Patty said if Natsu won she'd dye her hair black. After the above happens, Gajeel wordlessly hands her a bottle of black hair dye, with neither of them losing their slack-jawed expressions.

Order of the Sword

• Ch. 6 Father's Memento
  • When discussing how the Order of the Sword worship Sparda, Happy suggests that Dante reveal his status to them to get them to do whatever he wants. His first suggestion? A lifetimes supply of fish.
  • Miehelle Lobster's Establishing Character Moment, crying Ocular Gushers when Lucy doesn't remember her and dropping the case containing the memento from Jude on her own foot when she goes to hug her.
  • After hearing Michelle call Lucy 'big sister', amidst everyone else's exclamations of surprise Natsu brings up how so many people they know have surprise relatives.
    Natsu: First Lisanna, Elfman and Mira are related to that Angel-chick; Dante and Lucy are cousins; Gildarts is Cana's dad; now Lucy's got a shellfish for a daughter?
    (others laugh)
    Lucy: How did you get that idea?!
    Natsu: Just kidding! Don't blow a gasket!
  • Natsu's confusion over Michelle calling Lucy 'big sister' before confidently saying she's from the future like it's an "Eureka!" Moment. Everyone else groans and try to explain how suspended animation works, making it clear this isn't the first time they've had this conversation. Even after he's still confused as to how seven years passed and Wendy still looks like a child.
  • After Lucy gives a heartfelt speech about her surprise at discovering her relation to Sparda as well as her joy at meeting another relative in Michelle it seems like the latter is moved to tears. Then it turns out she was crying at the half-finished novel Lucy wrote.
  • Asuka playing cops and robbers with Makarov and Lucy, using the former as a horse and the poor mans mustache as the reigns.
    Dante: (snickering) How you doing, you old horse?
    Makarov: Regretting having facial hair.
    Asuka: Horses don't talk, silly!
    Makarov: But they feel.
  • After Erza explains her plan to ambush the bandits, a panicking Natsu refuses to enter the carriage with the others. Lisanna is forced to remind an irate Erza that Natsu's motion sickness would make him useless in the vehicle anyway. Erza is shocked that she made such an obvious oversight. Despite the changes, part of the plan still fails, to Erza's indignation. As a result she tells the bandits she'll 'make them feel the pain of night owls everywhere'.
  • The bandits the group have been called to deal with are built up as ruthless warriors who sent the royal soldiers screaming and gave them nightmares afterwards. It turns out to be a group of transvestites that aggressively hit on the men while repeatedly disparage the women's appearance. What makes it funnier is that Gray and Dante both scream after seeing them.
    Lisanna: I think I know why the victims all had nightmares for months.
• Ch. 7 Turbulent Showdown! Dante vs. Laxus!
  • The rest of Fairy Tail hear about the upcoming fight between Dante and Laxus and decide to do the logical thing and set up a festival around the area, with the people of Magnolia joining in. Dante and Natu's bafflement at the whole thing sells it.
  • When Wendy, Carla and Modeus tell Cana and Makarov about the upcoming fight between Dante and Laxus, the former is annoyed she might miss it. Meanwhile, Makarov has an Imagine Spot of the two wrecking Magnolia as they fight, complete with glowing eyes, serpent tongues and Slasher Smile's, before frantically saying 'anyone but those two'.
  • The Vanishing brothers confusion when Lady starts eating their frying pan, especially since it happens in the middle of a fight.
  • Lady intimidates the bandits so much that they shakily promise to return all the gold they stole while being prostrated before her and the rest of the team. Her having a vicious grin while doing so really sells it.
  • When Natsu reveals his plan to fight Laxus (absorb his lightning and trigger his Lightning-Flame Dragon Slayer Mode), Happy backhandedly compliments his thinking.
    Happy: Wow Natsu that actually sounds kinda smart. Guess you do have a brain underneath all these muscles.
    Dante: Complementing while sneaking in a burn, nice.
    (fist bump)
  • As the battle continues, Laxus and Dante break out their respective Super Mode's, ready to kick things up a notch. The two charge towards one another for an epic clash... and are intercepted by Makarov who berates them for getting carried away. The two sheepishly apologize after seeing the damage they did to the surrounding area and call it a draw.
  • When Natsu complains that he didn't get his shot at Laxus, all three send him flying, before Makarov asks if anyone else has any objections. When Dante brings up Gajeel he turns to find a dotted silhouette where the Iron Dragon Slayer was standing.
• Ch. 8 The Order of the Sword
  • While the others are on edge after Mary Hughes demands Fairy Tail give Lucy Hearfilia to her, an amused Happy and Michelle pick up on her wording.
    Michelle: How forward... My heart skipped a beat.
    Happy: Oh, wow. I've never seen a real proposal in person before.
  • In general, the fact that Nero is the Only Sane Man amidst the Order of the Sword members sent to retrieve the clock piece.
  • Byro makes his debut by dropping from the air astride on Kanaloa (his octopus), to Natsu, Modeus and Happy's shock.
    Natsu: Where the heck did that come from?!
    Happy: Is that a demon octopus!?
    Modeus: (perplexed) No, I just think it's a regular octopus. One that can somehow move above water.
    • Natsu and Happy briefly wonder if Earthand Byro is the octopus, since his Edolas counterpart could turn himself into one. An annoyed Sugarboy yells that he's riding on top of it.
  • Trish pre-empts Mary Hughes sneak attack and slips in an insult.
    Mary Hughes: Damn! How'd you find me out?!
    Trish: Call it instinct, but I know when trash is around.
• Ch. 9 Key of the Starry Heavens
  • When wondering about why Nero seems familiar (as well as his origins) a shocked Happy wonders if he's Vergil's son. Dante and Gray both point out he's far too old for that to be possible.
  • After Michelle mentions Lucy used to make her clothes out of colored paper and flowers, Dante, Natsu, and Gray have an Imagine Spot of the girls wearing such clothes... prompting Lady, Lucy and Trish to bonk them all on the head, before angrily telling them to focus.
  • Dan Straight's entire introduction. Upon seeing Lucy, he begins giving an over-the-top declaration of his love for her. Meanwhile Lucy and the other Fairy Tail members are confused, and Nero and Samuel merely look resigned to the whole thing, taking a moment to confirm to Dante that yes, Dan is always like this. When Dante tosses Dan aside and asks if they can all fight now, the two quickly agree, obviously wanting to speed things along.
  • Nero agrees with Fairy Tails complaints about the other members of the Order of the Sword, calling them all morons. It's clear he is tired of being the Only Sane Man amongst his group.
• Ch. 10 Journey for the Clock
  • Before Nero leaves for his mission, Kyrie asks that he look out for everyone, including Mary. An amused Nero asks if this includes Dan, and Kyrie briefly shudders before (reluctantly) agreeing.
  • When Modeus, Panther-Lily and Shadow Gear go to collect Gajeel for his help, the latter simply has this to say upon hearing they may be facing a doomsday scenario.
    Gajeel: Another one?
  • Throughout the chapter, Juvia is annoyed at Lyon referring to her as 'Juvey'. At one point he muses that he's being too informal and calls her Miss Juvey instead.
  • Sugarboys increasingly flustered reactions to Gray 'flirting' with him. Grays increasing confusion and indignation really sells it.
  • Dante and Lucy's group meets a team of archaeologists investigating the ruins spoken of in 'The Key to the Starry Heavens'. The team state that after extensive research they have managed to deduce the locations of several of the ruins. A confused Lucy says she figured all the locations out after reading the book several times as a child to their shock.
  • What opens the second barrier to the ruins Dante and Lucy's group are exploring? Dante going into Devil Trigger... and saying 'Open Sesame', as the door required a demon to say the password. Happy also amusedly points out that Sparda of all people making the password as simple as 'Open Sesame' is funny in it's own right.
• Ch. 11 Fairies, Demons, and Angels
  • While Gajeel, Modeus and Panther-Lily have little issue climbing the mountain, Levy, Jet and Droy are barely able to move upon reaching the top. After checking the map, Panther-Lily exclaims that they climbed the wrong one, with the actual mountain (conveniently next to them) being three times higher, and having ominous lightning. While he clarifies he was joking, Team Shadow Gear had already fainted, completed with spirits leaving their mouths.
  • Upon seeing Dan again, Lucy tries to hide behind Lisanna. All this does is make him fall for Lisanna as well, giving his whole hammy Love Confession, to Nero and Coco's annoyance, and prompting an annoyed Natsu to send him flying.
    • Later, when Natsu is having trouble in his fight with Dan, Lisanna joins in and whispers a plan. Said plan consists of her posing in her Cat-Soul and flirting with him to make an opening. The result is Dan promptly dropping his weapons before rushing forward with hearts in his eyes and open arms.Suffice to say, Natsu had an easy time ending the fight.
  • While talking with Coco, Lucy expresses annoyance at how cryptic Sparda's clues regarding the Infinity Clock were, wishing he could have just left a simple message instead. Despite being part of an order that worships the man, as well as being Lucy's enemy at that point, Coco takes a moment to agree.
  • After her fight with Credo Erza remarks that Milliana might be stronger than her now. While she disagrees, her old friend jokingly offers to take Erza on as an apprentice.
• Ch. 12 Calculations and Faith
  • After Gajeel and Team Shadow Gear get the clock piece to appear, the former actually tastes it to their disgust. He then ignore Levy's warnings to let her finish reading the runes inscribed in the pedestal, prompting a guardian to emerge. The two then argue about his impulsiveness as they fight the giant statue.
  • After Samuels disbelief that his calculations were proven incorrect leads to his defeat at Panther-Lily's hands, the latter asks if he's learned not to depend solely on logic for fights. Instead, Samuel actually doubles down on this method, furiously writing in his journal while muttering his findings. The fact that he keeps calling Fairy Tail 'barbarians' irritates Panther-Lily to the point where he kicks him over the horizon.
    Panther-Lily: WHO ARE YOU CALLING A BARBARIAN, HUH!?
  • Bickslow and Mira teasing Elfman and Evergreen about their Belligerent Sexual Tension.
  • Evergreen says that she hates cocky women like Mary Hughes. Elfman quickly notes the hypocrisy.
  • Nero, Coco, and Dans Big "WHAT?!" upon learning that Dante is Sparda's son complete with blank white eyes, having learned they essentially attacked their religions version of a demigod. Coco in particular has a hard time processing, complete with swirling eyes.
    Coco: Sparda's... son... Sparda's son... How... how... I...
  • When asking Nero how he about his origins, especially given his similarities to Dante, Natsu, Happy and Romeo lean in very close to his face. An increasingly annoyed Nero uses his Devil Bringers spectral hand to shove them all back.
• Ch. 13 The Holy War Begins
  • When Macao admits to being worried about Romeo, Kinana reminds him he has Natsu and Dante with him. An annoyed Macao says that's what he's worried about, his son growing up to be like those two, who he see's as role models.
  • Everyone's continued confusion at Byro having Kranaloa (an octopus) as a battle companion. When asked, even Nero admits the Order members have no idea why.
  • Natsu can't stop laughing at Byro using an octopus as a companion, to everyone's annoyance, including Kanaloa who has a sweat-drop. When Romeo reminds him that Byro fought Gildarts to a standstill, Natsu wonders if beating Byro effectively mean he's beaten Gildarts.
  • After the group manages to defeat Kanaloa, everyone is surprised that he can somehow shrink.
    Lucy: Whoa, it's pocket sized! How'd that happen?
    Michelle: Great for a snack, or a side dish.
    Byro: He's a warrior! Not an entree!
  • While Dante tearing apart Byro's reasoning is an awesome moment, just how he starts it off is worth a few chuckles.
    Dante: So, you say you and your pals are prepared to sacrifice your lives for your mission, huh? Gotta tell ya man... that's kinda dumb.
  • In the flashback, after being found and subsequently cured of her curse by Makarov, Kinana's only memory was of a companion who promised her "If we're ever torn apart, one day he'd come back to me on a shooting star and take me away from all my worries". After she says this with stars in her eyes, a deadpan Wakaba remarks that sounds like crazy talk. When Mira says she finds it romantic, he, just as deadpan as before, says he's not surprised.
  • Gajeel nonchalantly suggesting that he eat the clock piece his group found, to everyone's shock. Arguably funnier since he makes a good point in that doing so will prevent the thing from being reassembled, something even Levy admits is true.
• Ch. 14 The Neo Oracion Seis
  • After waking up and seeing Ichiya less than an inch from his face, Dante reflexively punches him into the ceiling, before carrying on like nothing happened.
  • Gray questions why Dante took the longest to wake up despite his Healing Factor. An irritated Dante responds as such.
    Dante: Well sorry, but getting stabbed, skewered, blown up, and having a hurricane tear up my insides isn't like getting a paper cut. It freaking hurts.
  • The guys comical horror at Master Bob's continued affection, which Lady finds hilarious.
    Master Bob: (to Natsu and Gray) Just thought you'd like to know, I cared for you two personally.
    Natsu: (shivering) Please don't do it again.
  • In darkly hilarious way, how simple it was for Fairy Tail to find Sparda's warning about the Infinity Clock, and know to leave it be. Asuka (an actual child!) apparently figured it out shortly after reading 'The Key of the Starry Heavens'. Especially since a few chapters ago Lucy complained about Sparda being so cryptic all the time.
• Ch. 15 Divide and Conquer
  • While Kyrie is greatly upset by Credo being complicit in the Order's darker plans Dan goes to comfort her... However, doing so causes her to comically shudder, as he also continues to be as hammy and flirtatious as usual, prompting Nero to slam him onto the ground. And Kyrie of all people thanks him.
  • While Gildarts, Morrison, and Laki are traveling through the old Lobster estate, the former flirts with the latter. When she threatens to tell Cana he desperately attempts to pass it off as a compliment, before asking Morrison for help. The amused information broker simply says he's on his own.
  • While Cana is using her fortune telling to select teams, a few of these occur.
    • As expected, Juvia is greatly disappointed not to be on a team with Gray, desperately asking Lady or Gajeel to switch spots with him.
    • While Trish is fine with being on a team with Wendy and Bickslow, she admits that the latter's 'babies' (dolls) creep her out.
    • When Modeus is put on a team with Erza, Evergreen and Max, he is surprised to find that the two women actually have a (mostly one-sided) rivalry over the title of 'Queen of the Fairies', which a clearly tired Max has to explain to him. Cue Evergreen challenging Erza to a match, which the latter agrees to after the current crisis, complete with sinister grins and their respective Battle Aura's.
• Ch. 16 A New Devil Awakens
  • With the group consisting of Modeus, Max, Erza and Evergreen, the latter two get into an increasingly petty argument, with Erza being uncharacteristically enraged at an insult to her femininity. As a result, Modeus has to step in to get them back on track.
    • Modeus mentioned he took inspiration from how Sparda would discipline him and Baul when they were younger. Just picturing the calm Modeus being a hothead in his youth is worth a chuckle.
  • When Lady tries to advise Juvia to spend some time to herself and not focus everything on Grey, the latter takes it to mean that distance from Grey might make him more fond of her. Lady tells Gajeel she expected as much but wanted to say her piece.
  • Lady and Gajeel get into and argument over whether her status as an Empowered Badass Normal makes her more or less badass than him, forcing Juvia to step in and act as the mediator.
  • Minor, but the fact that Trish and Bickslow somehow forgot that Wendy can consume air like Natsu can with fire, which including Erigor's tornadoes.
• Ch. 17 The Black Wings of the Caduto
  • Dan Straights Big Damn Heroes moment is marred by the fact that he still keeps flirting with Lisanna.
  • When Lahar says he'd prefer precision to blunt force in dealing with the current crisis, Panther-Lily snipes about the councils use of Etherion during the last crisis.
• Ch. 18 Despair of the Savior
  • While Guttman is unimpressed with Juvia trapping him in a water sphere, his attempts to use his Rupture (which causes peoples magic or demonic power to explode) to escape quite literally blows up in his face, to Lady and Gajeels amusement.
  • There's something funny about how casual Agnus is throughout his encounter with Alzack and Bisca, treating the whole thing like its a field test for his Gladii in the same way a businessman would test a new product. Hell, right before the Gladii attack the two he even pulls out a clipboard and politely asks for constructive criticism.
  • After Klodoa reveals how the Order of the Sword and the Neo Oración Seis used him and the Ascension ceremony to reanimate Gilvers corpse, a disturbed Dante echoes everyone's thoughts.
    Dante: Well, that's not messed up or anything.
• Ch. 19 Chaos Unleashed
  • After Natsu's awakening and subsequent escape, he lands in the burnt town just outside Berials Hellgate. Nero tells him that they're on his home island of Fortuna, prompting this exchange.
    Natsu: Wow, your home is a real dump.
    Nero: (tick mark) Nobody live in this old town, you moron! It's been abandoned!
  • While Dante giving a showcase of his new Devil Arm Anubis is an awesome moment, Coco going starry-eyed and calling him as cool as Nero can give the reader a chuckle.
  • To help Fairy Tail storm Fortuna, Ichiya arrives aboard the Christina Advanced and makes his entrance by jumping off... and falling onto the ground face-first.
    Trish: Are we really counting on this guy right here?
• Ch 20 Storming the Hellgates
  • After Samuel sets the teams, Dan complains that he's not on a team with any of the girls, with Samuel replying that was the point. Dans subsequent attempt at flirting with Trish has her shock him afterwards.
  • When Team A encounters the lures from Devil May Cry 4, absolutely no one is fooled and jump straight to insulting and attacking the toad demons.
    Happy: Good thing Dante and Dan aren't here. Those two would love this.
    • In a meta way, that fact that Bael swallowing Lisanna (one of their most damaging moves in the game) actually makes it easier for the heroes to win is worth a chuckle.
  • Echidna's use of her own children as projectiles, combined with her Mama Bear tendencies Crosses the Line Twice, especially with Gajeel lampshading her blatant Moral Myopia.
    Echidna: You child-murdering bastards!
    Gajeel: You hate your precious seeds getting crushed, then stop throwing them at us you horny bitch!
  • After making a Bond One-Liner/Ironic Echo, Wendy asks how it compares to Dante's. Lady snarks that it's much better than his cheesy ones.
  • Mary's Big Damn Heroes moment against Guttman Kubrick is awesome, and her admitting that Nero is better for Kyrie than her is touching. Dante and Natsu's thoughts however, show they're really not in the mood to deal with this.
    Dante: Really? A love triangle.
    Natsu: Man, Happy would have a field day with this.
  • Right before being absorbed by the Savior, Nero makes sure to give Sanctus the finger.
• Ch 21 The Battle of Fortuna
  • Trish and Bickslow independently saying that the Savior looks tacky, and that the person who designed it has awful taste.
  • While Guttmans realization at having helped the villains should be a tragic moment, it's hard to take him seriously when it's accompanied by enough tears to fill a fountain.
    Laki: His tears are like a waterfall.
    Morrison: I know even a devil may cry, but this is ridiculous.
• Ch 22 Between Heaven and Hell
  • Trish tells Lady that she didn't need help taking down Gloria at the end. The former admits that she knows, but wanted to get a hit on the bitch herself, which the She-Devil accepts.
• Ch 23 The True Saviors
  • Amidst Midnights Evil Gloating, an annoyed Dante once again expresses his annoyance at people talking more than him.
    Dante: I've heard that bullshit before. SO let's just skip the monologue and get back to fighting already?!
  • In a flashback to when Lucy met Dante and Vergil as children, she introduces them to her 'sister', Michelle, who was simply a doll at the time.
    Vergil: (lowered eyelids) That's a toy, Lucy.
  • After delivering his "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Midnight, Dante does express some Sympathy for the Devil but...
    Dante: Not enough to avoid giving you the asskicking you deserve of course.
  • After seeing Natsu and Nero push back Sanctus, Klodoa just 'nopes' it outta there.
• Ch 24 Toward the Future
  • After Sparda's funeral, Byro leads the rest of the Order of the Sword in sincerely apologising to Fairy Tail for their actions. In response, Makarov assures them they did the right thing in the end, and that's what counts. After Byro thanks him, we get this gem from Makarov.
    Makarov: With that settled and the funeral out of the way... LET'S PARTY!
  • Natsu and Dan have an eating contest, with Dan trying to get ahead by using his lance to make Natsu’s food grow bigger. Minutes later, Natsu flips the table over and begins breathing fire at Dan.
    Romeo: Is he going to let him get away with that?
    Happy: I don't think it's against the rules.
  • Sugarboy gets too close to Gray, much to the annoyance of the latter, as well as Juvia.
    Juvia: If anybody is cuddling with my beloved Gray, it’s gonna be me!
    Sugarboy: Woah now, there’s no need for you to get all spicy, Water-girl!
    Gray: I’m sure you both have more than cuddling in mind.
  • Freed and Mira support the idea of a sparring match between Laxus and Trish, the latter having grown stronger from absorbing Gloria’s lightning, much to Evergreen and Bickslow’s concern.
    Bickslow: Whoa boy, this could get ugly.
    Evergreen: I don’t think we could survive a storm of that magnitude.
  • In the midst of Coco having a heart to heart with Panther-Lily, the normally composed Samuel approaches him, taking up his offer for a rematch. The latter immediately agrees before the two start engaging in hand-to-hand then and there, made all the better by Coco's reaction.
    Coco: You guys are fighting right now?!
  • Lady becomes the latest target for Dan’s flirting, with the members of Fairy Tail eagerly awaiting her retribution. He ends up getting smashed into the ground by her steel-coated fists. Carla notes that her magic seems to be effective against not only demons, but men who get too handsy.
  • Amidst Kyrie and Nero saying goodbye to their friends from the Order, a few exchanges can give the reader a chuckle.
    Nero: Dan, try to be a bit more respectful to girls from now on. Unless you wanna die alone.
    Dan: Ah, I'll be fine. What lady doesn't love a man in armour?
    Nero: The kind that see's the guy wearing it.
    
    Lucy: And Mary, I know you'll do good things with your power.
    Trish: But if you end up losing yourself, let me know and I'll shock you back to your senses again.
    Mary: Once was enough... thanks.
    
    Lisanna: Hopefully the next time we meet, the fate of the world won't be at stake.
    Gray: With our luck, I'd say it's a given.
    
    Dan: See you next time Lady! Looking forward to it!
    Lady: (thoughts) And I'll have my guns loaded.
  • Before the Order leaves, Natsu asks Byro to try and smile. The result is so disturbing that everyone agrees he looks worse with it, and a scared Coco asks him to never do that again. Byro himself is quite annoyed by their comments.
  • Hearing that Makarov took Gildarts to the old guildhall, an ecstatic Cana immediately takes the opportunity to to on a job. What's more, she simply runs straight out the door while carrying an entire beer barrel in her arms.

Grand Magic Games

• Ch. 25 The Grand Magic Games
  • As part of her tradition, Erza goes to the local bakery and buys two strawberry cakes for Nero and Kyrie to commemorate them joining Fairy Tail...while also buying forty-eight cakes for herself. Lady is left wondering how Erza can eat so much sweets yet still look muscular.
    Trish: Guess she burns out more calories than we think.
  • Nero gets into a Fairy Tail brawl with some of the others guys. He punches Erza when she tries to break it up to offer him a cake, thinking she wants to get in on the fight. Everybody panics and immediately scrambles away in terror and give him their condolences as Erza intimidates Nero with a Death Glare before slamming him into the ground, all the while Kyrie watches on in comic panic.
    Lucy: Kyrie, take this to heart. Never make Erza mad.
    Happy: Aye, it may be the last thing to do.
    Nero: (holding an ice pack on his head) Could have warned me they had a gorilla in their guild.
  • After Natsu obliterates a portion of a forest with his Lightning-Fire powers during a fight with Max, he then asks Nab, Warren, and Vijeeter if they want to be next. All of them immediately back out.
    Max: Welp... that's it for me.
    Dante: Aw man, you giving up already? What happened to the tough guy act?
    Max: It just vanished because I don't have a death wish.
  • While discussing ways to improve Fairy Tails reputation, Kyrie brings up the fact that they saved the world several times before, thinking they could pull off something like that again. Macao responds thusly.
    Macao: It's not like we can just call up an apocalypse like ordering a pizza.
  • Dante and Natsu's team go to visit Porlyusica to see if she can provide them with something to make them stronger. She ends up chasing them away with her broom, and they wonder why they thought she'd be willing to help them out.
    Dante: We've gone up against demons and psychopaths, but we're running from an old hag with a broom stick?
    Happy: If you want to turn back and fight her, it's your funeral!
    
    Lucy: Whose bright idea was it to go visit Porlyusica in the first place?
    Happy: Yours genius.
    Gray: And she's usually so sweet and charming.
  • As the Strongest Team is running from Porlyusica, Natsu asks why she hates them. Gray figures it was because she and Makarov used to date, with Lady thinking that she's Laxus' grandmother. Porlyusica is not amused.
    Porlyusica: We were never a couple, you fools!
  • When the group is discussing Porlyusica's connection Gradeeney, they wonder if dragons can take human forms. While it's quickly dismissed after Lisanna's "Eureka!" Moment, given what canon shows of Acnologia and Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, they actually weren't far off, which is funny in a meta way.
  • Despite the protests of Macao and the Fairy Tail members that weren't stuck on Tenrou Island, Dante and the others choose to enter the Grand Magic Games, with Gildarts declaring it himself. Macao and Wakaba complain that Gildarts is abusing his power as guildmaster.
• Ch 26 Grinding Down, Leveling Up
  • Patty comes along with the Strongest Team to the beach so she can enjoy some relaxing paradise while the others train. Then Natsu and Gray run onto the beach, knocking Patty into a sand pile, and proceed to have many contests, ranging from swimming, building sandcastles, eating, and getting a suntan, the last one giving them a tan in seconds.
    Patty: So much for paradise…
    Dante: What do you expect when you share any kind of space with those two morons?
  • Elfman and Mira go off with Laxus and the Thunder Legion to train, with Elfman declaring it to be “manly training”, much to Evergreen’s annoyance.
    Evergreen: If I manage to survive three months with you and all your real man bullshit, I don’t think I’ll need any further training for the rest of my life.
  • Nero and Gajeel’s group have to slow down several times so Droy can catch up, prompting Jet to argue with him about eating so much. Nero, clearly not impressed with them, asks Levy if they’re seriously her teammates.
  • The first day of training is anything but pleasant for Jet and Droy, since their partners are Gajeel, Nero, and Lily. By nightfall both are left in a pile covered in bumps, with Xs for eyes.
  • During his spar with Erza, Dante wonders if Rebellion has powers that he is unaware of. Erza suggests that he can simply ask Madame Kurenai, who was Sparda's sister-in-arms and would probably know what his sword can do. Dante is actually disappointed at this revelation, admitting that despite complaining about things being cryptic all the time, he's actually grown so used to it he looks forward to it.
    Dante: (chuckles) Kinda funny huh?
    Erza: (giggles) That is rather funny, yes.
• Ch 27 Old Friends
  • When Natsu agrees with Dante about coming up with a strategy to fight Vergil, Gray and Lady are gobsmacked, and Happy yells that Natsu actually thinking means it’s the end of the world.
  • While mulling over the prospect of meeting Vergil again, Dante's train of thought is derailed when he notices something.
    Dante: Uh... Erza? You got a pigeon on your head.
  • Upon meeting with Crime Sorciere, Jellal prepares to tell Wendy that he is not the same person that she met all those years ago, pysching himself up to deliver the bad news. She cuts him off and cheerfully states that was cleared up a while ago, to their surprise.
    Sheeree: Wow, that went better than I thought it would.
  • When Crime Sorciere offers to pay Fairy Tail up front for their help, Natsu, Happy, Lisanna and Lucy all have the same reaction.
    Food money!
  • After Ultear explains Second Origin and offers to unlock it for Fairy Tail, she warns that it’s a painful procedure with glowing red eyes, scaring Wendy, Romeo, and Patty.
  • Meredy offers to have Gray Sensory Link with Natsu after the Ice-Make Wizard comments how much pain the Salamander is in undergoing the process of unlocking Second Origin.
    Gray: Are you crazy?!
  • Having aged the past seven years while Wendy was in suspended animation, Sheeree now considers herself the Sky Maiden’s big sister, offering her some advice in a...particular area. Wendy can only stare at Sheeree’s chest with a red face of embarrassment and steam shooting up from her head, while Carla disapproves of Sheeree’s adult humor.
  • While the process of unlocking Second Origin is painful for all the Fairy Tail members involved, Dante and Erza are the only ones besides Modeus that are sitting up while everyone else is lying on the floor in agony, with the Son of Sparda and Titania actually competing over it, much to Sheeree and Meredy’s bewilderment.
    Dante: Hey Erza… if you wanna bail go right ahead. I know this must be tough.
    Erza: It is… (looks at Dante with a grin) So, you are free to step down whenever you feel like it.
    Dante: Oh please, this is nothing… Yeah, bring on the pain baby!
    Meredy: Are they seriously competing over that? What kind of contest even is that?
    Sheeree: No idea… and people called us insane…
  • As Crime Sorciere take their leave, Sheeree talks with Romeo in private, noticing how he looks at Wendy and gives him her blessing... before threatening to kill him if something happens to Wendy or he breaks his heart, to his comical fear.
  • At the end of the chapter Happy draws a broken heart in the sand, teasing Erza over the current status of her relationship with Jellal. Erza’s response is to kick him into the sky. Even Lisanna, who loves Happy, comments that he had it coming.
• Ch 28 Labyrinth Above the Blooming Capital
  • As the various Fairy Tail members talk about how far they come with their training, Lucy and Trish are unimpressed that all Nab did was reading, while Gray finds it funny that Jet and Droy's 'training' just consisted of them getting beat up by Nero, Gajeel, and Lily.
  • After hearing of Crime Sorcieres warning and request for help, the rest of Fairy Tail start to complain about how often they deal with end-of-the-world scenarios.
    Cana: Come on! Zeref again?!
    Macao: The Games haven't even started and there's already trouble?
    Wakaba: Can't we just go for one week and not worry about the possible end of the world?!
    Dante: Given my old man founded this guild, I doubt it.
    
    Gray: (to Juvia on exploring Crocus) Though for now I'm just enjoying the peace and queit before it all goes to hell. Again.
  • Shortly after Erza and Trish check in to their hotel, they find themselves being hit on by Ichiya and the Trimens. All of them are zapped by Trish's lightning before being sent flying by Erza.
  • When Juvia joins Gray in exploring Crocus, her attempt at asking him to go to a restaurant is snagged by Lyon, who begins to lead her to one instead, with her baffled by his sudden appearance. He attempts to make a wager with Gray that if Lamia Scale wins the Games, Juvia will join their guild, though he relents when she says she's happy to be a member of Fairy Tail. Just as Gray is thinking he took it well, Lyon parts while saying she can join Lamia Scale if she is impressed by their victory, prompting the below exchange.
    Juvia: Gray... no offense but... your childhood friend is rather... Hmm, what's the word?
    Gray: I can think of a whole dictionary of words to describe him, and more than half of them aren't all that nice.
  • Happy's attempts to tease Dante over failing to get Lady any flowers is turned back on him, the son of Sparda snarking about the Exceeds own habit of getting Carla fish she simply throws away, and teases him over the fact that he thinks he was being subtle with that.
    Lady: You know, it's kinda funny seeing the cat get the rebound on stuff like that for once.
  • Sting giving his canon boast of how he and Rogue would have easily dealt with Acnologia on Tenrou Island is undercut by Vergil reminding him that the two were children at the time. Makes for a hilarious mental image.
  • In order to navigate through the maze, Lucy summons Pyxis to lead them...only for Erza to steal their thunder by revealing she has a compass. When Lucy resummons the spirit later on, she quickly hides behind Lucy, scared of Erza. The blonde remarks her compass traumatised her Spirit, and after Erza apologizes Dante gives the below crack.
    Dante: You tend to leave a traumatizing effect on most people. Not that it's a bad thing, considering most of those people are bad guys.
  • Lucy and Dante poking fun at Natsu's motion sickness, with the latter saying vomits as much as he breathes fire. Natsu's reply?
    Natsu: Hey, I can hear ya, ya know?!
  • Team Fairy Tail ends up confronting Twilight Ogre in the maze. Fairy Tail takes them all down in less than a second, not even taking them seriously as a threat. Dante even has this quip.
    Dante: Don't you think you'd be better off in a circus traumatizing children?
  • When Thibault from Twilight Ogre, who's dangling on a platform, asks for Fairy Tail to give him his map back, Dante says he'll do it if he says please, and apologizes for harassing Fairy Tail for the last seven years. Thibault does...and then Dante shoots the platform with Coyote-A and a trolling grin, sending Thibault falling out of the maze.
    Thibault: YOU SON OF A BIIIIIIIIIITCH!
  • Elfman, Erza, and Dante have a contest over how many people they can take out when Team Fairy Tail goes after other guilds for their maps. Lucy, who's putting the maps together, ends up apologizing to several of the mages for the attack.
  • Due to Erza's compass not working well in the maze, due to the constant shifting and changing, Lucy summons Pyxis again, who is upset at Erza's compass. After Erza, Lucy and Dante get his spirits back up, this exchange between Gray and Natsu happens.
    Gray: That's one simple-minded spirit.
    Natsu: Yeah, but I bet he's still smarter than Erza.
    Erza: WHAT DID YOU SAY?!
    Natsu and Gray: NOTHING! NOTHING AT ALL!
  • After Team Fairy Tail makes it to the end of the maze, they're all pleased that they qualified...and then their spirits drop when they learn from Mato that they ended up coming in eighth place.
• Ch 29 Let the Games Begin!
  • When Sparda and Mavis show up in Fairy Tail's observation box, everybody is left staring with wide eyes. Kyrie is the most awestruck, and ends up fainting in Trish's arms after being reminded that Nero (her boyfriend) is his son. Seems she still hasn't properly processed the fact that she's dating her religions equivalent of a demigod.
  • Everything involving the revelation of Fairy Tail Team B (Nero, Laxus, Juvia, Gajeel, Mira, and Cana), which surprises everybody.
    • Millianna, Sho, and Wally comment that having two teams is really something Fairy Tail would do, and Kurenai is barely surprised with Makarov.
    • Gildarts and Makarov end up laughing at Team A's shocked reactions over seeing Team B. Even Mavis and Sparda can't help but share a laugh as well.
    • Elfman doesn't even bother hiding his fear over the fact that he could end up fighting Mirajane.
  • Dante and Laxus are excited that they can have their rematch without Makarov interrupting, both sporting evil grins and giving off red and yellow auras as they do so. Everyone watching is scared.
  • Natsu looks like he's about to puke when the decoys of Gray are created for the Hidden Event, saying that looking at so many Grays grosses him out.
  • As expected, Juvia is completely lovestruck over seeing so many Grays in one area, and nearly throws herself on one before focusing on the event.
  • Juvia's leap off a building has Gray and Lyon looking up her dress. Lyon calls it quite a view, while Dante says they're lucky.
  • Team B fantasizing what they'd like for Team A to do for them after Gildarts and Makarov promise them a reward if they win. Laxus imagines having Natsu as a servant, Gajeel sees Lucy dancing for him in a rabbit suit, Nero thinks about using Dante as a punching bag, Mira's idea is to have Erza be her maid, Cana thinks about dressing up Wendy so she can get some attention from boys, and Juvia, of course, wants to go on a date with Gray.
  • After Gildarts and Makarov assure Team A that they can do what they want to Team B if they win, Natsu imagines making Gajeel, Laxus and Nero give him an impression of Happy. Elfman and Dante question Natsu's thoughts, with Dante saying he has no imagination.
    • This is then followed by what Dante would want, which is having Juvia, Mira, and Cana serve him beer, pizza and strawberry sundaes…all while wearing bathing suits. Lucy ends up kicking him in the head for being a pervert. Funny enough already, then when you remember that Sparda is also attending the Games, and you can only imagine what Dante's old man would have to say about that.
• Ch. 30 The Dance of Fairies, Ravens, and Devils
  • After Erza reminds everyone that despite his eccentricities, Ichiya is legitimately the strongest mage in Blue Pegasus, Dante admits he still can't take him seriously, and is more curious about their mystery member dressed in a cat suit. Elfman is relieved to hear it wasn't just him who found that strange, and admits he had to keep himself from cracking up.
  • Everyones reactions to the fact that Warcrys magic involves him actually crying in order to fight.
  • After Orga finishes his match with Warcry in a matter of seconds and is prepared to leave the arena, Sting asks if he could have made it more entertaining. Orga then decides to perform a rap boasting Sabertooth's strength, causing mixed reactions from the crowd and guilds that range from cheers, laughter, ear-plugging from Natsu, and stupefied expressions. When Sting yells that's not what he meant, Vergil of all people has this to say.
    Vergil: You told him to provide 'entertainment'. This is on you.
    • During the rap, Cana calls Orga's performance worse than Gajeel's music, to the annoyance of her teammate.
      Gajeel: Shut up! My music's an artform!
  • During Nero's match with Jura, Gildarts makes fun of the latter's baldness by calling him Potato-Head. Jura is briefly annoyed before focusing on the match.
• Ch. 31 Origins
  • When the guild is out drinking, Cana berates the participating teams for giving such a poor performance on the first day. A deadpan Lady reminds her that Cana is on one of those teams, and is insulting herself in that assessment.
  • After Sparda is finished explaning the origins of gods, the world, and magic itself, Dante teases Natsu, asking if he needs a simpler version to understand. Everyone (including Sparda) is shocked when gives an accurate summary, providing several comical reactions.
    Sparda: (surprised) Yes... that is basically it. Well done Natsu.
    (everyone falls over in shock)
    Gray: He actually got all of it...
    Lady: How'd that idiot manage to follow all of that...?
    Happy: (white circles for eyes) Don't tell me... Is Natsu actually smart...?! Everything I know is a lie!
  • After Sparda reveals that the Celestial Spirit King is a god, to the shock of Lucy, Happy realizes that means Lucy technically wields the powers of a god and starts bowing before her, to her amusement and everyone elses confusion.
    Happy: Oh great and powerful Lucy! I deface myself before you! Please forgive all my past transgressions!
    Lucy: Well insect, I may just decide to forgive... if you promise to pledge your undying allegiance to me now and forever!
    Happy: Oh yes! I will deface myself before you if it is your command!
    Natsu: Someone's gotten a big head.
  • When Sparda mentions a god named Pluto chafed under the other gods decision to not interfere in the affairs of mortals, a Genre Savvy Lady casually guesses his thought process.
    Lady: Let me guess, this guy thought that gods were better than everyone else and wanted humanity to fear and worship them, right?
  • In the midst of everyone reassuring Sparda that he is not to blame for the tragedies that arose from Mundus cursing Zeref, the Dark Knight shows that he can be just as snarky as his sons with his response to Dante saying his self-directed pessimism isn't healthy.
    Sparda: You realize, I'm a ghost, don't you? I don't have to worry about 'being healthy'.
  • Likewise, in the midst of it all, Mavis casually refers to Sparda as 'Daddy' and after a few seconds everyone lets out a Big "WHAT?!", to her amusement, having hoped for such a reaction. Sparda clarifies that he adopted her and Zera, another one of Fairy Tails founding members, to Makarovs shock. Mavis goes on to gleefully declare herself as Dante's older sister, and Lucy's cousin, prompting the below exchange.
    Lucy: This is getting a bit much for me...
    Lady: Hold on... you mean after basically learning the origins of our whole world, of all magic, the existence of gods, Mundus' story, and Zeref's own horrible backstory... this is too much for you?!
    Lucy: I guess so... What's happening to my though process?
    Natsu: I guess tonight's full of surprises, huh?
  • A drunken Freed attempts to come to Laxus' defense when Gajeel starts antagonising him, calling the rest of the 'Laxus Body Guard Corps' to assemble... only to find his cohorts passed out on the floor, completely wasted.
  • Bruni informs Makarov that the rankings for the Wizard Saints have been updated, and Makarovs reaction to his new position is priceless, made all the better by Bruni's gloating.
    Makarov:I... I... I'm... I'M DEAD LAST!?
    Bruni: Sorry old man! But you have not kept up with the times! (laughs) Take a word from your superior and take it easy, okay?!
• Ch 32 The Will of a Man
  • The second day opens with an event called 'Chariots', where all the participants race across a bunch of moving chariots. Predictably Natsu, who apparently insisted on participating, is dead last due to his motion sickness, with the others lampshading how poorly thought out it was. The fact that Natsu somehow managed to convince the others to let him compete could also be considered pretty funny.
    Dante: Okay... who in the hell thought it was a good idea to let him of all people compete in this?!
    Lucy: Yeah, you'd think the name 'Chariots' would be a big clue, even for Natsu.
    
    Elfman: Maybe he thought he'd get to fight chariots or something.
    Dante: What's so sad, is that I can actually imagine him thinking something like that.
    • What's more, a participating Sting and Gajeel also suffer from it, having volunteered after hearing Natsu was competing. Gajeel can be excused since he could travel just fine beforehand, but Sting has had this problem for ages and apparently decided one-upping Fairy Tail was so important he'd just ignore it.
    • A watching Sparda explains that all Dragon Slayers eventually suffer from motion sickness, due to the imbalance brought about by their superior senses, which makes Modeus wince in sympathy for Wendy. Meanwhile, Laxus confirms to Mirajane that it is an issue for him, as does Rogue to Frosch, noting he's glad he isn't participating. Just the image of some of the most stoic and badass characters being brought low by moving vehicles is worth a chuckle.
    • A watching Bruni winces in sympathy, noting that he also suffers from severe motion sickness. Seems the curse transcends dimensions and species for Fire Dragons.
  • When Carla insists she can watch Wendy by herself, clearly trying to dissuade Romeo from staying, Lucy, Lisanna, Levy and Patty start start gossiping about how Carla acts like an overprotective mother, despite being younger than Wendy. After Patty remarks Carla's not ready for grand-kitties, an irritated Carla exclaims she can hear everything they're saying.
  • During his fight with Kurohebi, Toby promises to tell him a 'super duper secret' if he loses. The secret in question? His left sock 'disappeared' months ago, and it's been driving him crazy... somehow missing the fact that it's hanging off his chest, to everyone's astonishment. When Kurohebi points this out to him, he gives an over the top reaction more reminiscent of being reunited with a long lost friend, complete with Tears of Joy, to Lamia Scales embarrassment. Everyone else's reactions are hilarious, with the audience wondering what they're even watching, and Dante of all people can barely comprehend the sheer stupidity.
    Chapati: (to Yajima) Have you ever seen anything like this before?
    Yajima: Thankfully, no.
    Jason: Such emotion! What an ending!
    Erza: (Tears of Joy) What a good boy... I'm so happy for him...
    Gray: This is way too stupid to cry about!
    Lucy: (she and Elfman give Jaw Drop) Uh... wha...?
    Dante: How in... what the... I... but that... how...?
    Nero: Okay. How can anybody be that stupid?
    Cana: For real...
    Juvia: I... don't have anything to say about that...
    Laxus: (to Mirajane) You can't seriously be crying at that, can you?
    Mirajane: (Tears of Joy) Sorry, but it's just too sweet!
  • Everyone's shock when Elfman is declared Bacchus' opponent, with even Vergil letting out a Big "WHAT?!".
    • Lisanna is annoyed when Happy, Lady, Macao, Wakaba and Patty remark that they're screwed in perfect unison.
    • Erza's attempt to encourage Elfman is undermined by Dante advising him to simply run out the clock if he doesn't think he can win. At Lucy's shocked look, he tries to defend himself.
      Dante: What? I'm being realistic!
      Lucy: Way to support your team, Dante.
    • King Toma berating Arcadios for his screwup, since it comes across as less like a superior disciplining a soldier, and more like a parent scolding a child for not doing a chore properly.
    • A shocked Vergil wonders how the mixup even happened, before recalling Arcadios went off the description of 'the Fairy Tail member that transforms, and whose name begins with E'. He shows visible annoyance that his colleague made such a mistake, having not said anything at the time since he felt it was obvious the King was referring to Erza, and it is so apparent Orga manages to pick up on it.
      Orga: What's with you? You look upset.
      Vergil: Nothing... other than the fact that I have severely overestimated the intelligence of a certain individual.
      Arcadios: Why do I feel as though I've been insulted?
  • After Bacchus makes his bet to Elfman about Lisanna and Mirajane 'keeping him company', Lucy wishes Natsu could have heard that so he can deck the guy later. In the infirmary, Natsu wakes up and wonders why he feels the urge to punch someone.
  • Elfman sets his condition for his bet with Bacchus; if he wins, Quatro Cerberus has to go by the name Quatro Puppy, to Bacchus and Wally's amusement.
  • Natsu and Gajeel intercept four masked men kidnapping Wendy, Carla, and Porlyusica, and give chase in what should be a tense scene... however the kidnappers spend most of it bickering and panicking, showing they're really not that good at this, and providing plenty of levity.
    These guys are insane!
    We gotta get the lead out!
    What do we do?!
    We gotta dump these other two!
    You idiots! We were supposed to grab the girl in the infirmary!
    But this old broad and cat ain't girls!
    Then why did we grab them?!
    Well, they're all technically female.
    They ain't no girls though.
  • After Porlyusica complains about Wendy calling her Grandeeney again, Gajeel suggests they call her 'Grannydeeney' instead, noting she's more like Wendy's grandmother than mother. An amused Natsu joins in calling her that.
  • At the end of the chapter, Arcadios berates a soldier for hiring mercenaries to kidnap someone, and failing to inform them what the person they're supposed to kidnap looks like!
• Ch 33 Battle of the Femme Fatale
  • When Lisanna praises Elfmans ability to take a beating, Dante snarks about it being a poor strength. In response, Elfman fires back he doesn't want to hear that from someone who gets stabbed on an almost daily basis.
  • As the fight between Mirajane and Jenny begins, Nero asks if anyone knows anything about the Blue Pegasus mage. Cana seriously states that she has become the number one model of Sorcerer Weekly, making her a popular model with plenty of crowd support. Annoyed, Nero says he was asking for information regarding her magic.
  • Pretty much the entire 'fight' between Mirajane and Jenny, the two deciding to forego an actual battle in favor of a pose-off, to the delight of most of the male audience (and some of the females), Dante in particular enjoying the sight. Meanwhile, the likes of Wendy and Kyrie are mortified, Lady and Panther-Lily are shocked and disappointed, while Lisanna is caught completely off guard, clearly still not used to her sisters new quirks.
    • Things quickly escalate when the Mermaid Heel team (sans Lucia and Kagura) and Sherria and Sherry from Lamia Scale join in the swimsuit showcase, causing Mavis to demand the female members of Fairy Tail, even those not taking part in the Games, participate as well. When an annoyed Trish points out most of them don't even have swimsuits with them, Mavis (despite being a ghost) promptly brandishes enough swimsuits for all the present female members, and apparently managed to convince them, with the exception of Patty and Asuka, to join in.
    • The above prompts Modeus to ask Sparda if Mavis was always this eccentric, causing the Legendary Dark Knight to pinch the bridge of his nose, and give a response dripping with the tone of an exhausted parent.
      Sparda: My friend... you have no idea.
    • When Lucy remarks this whole thing is clearly something Mavis would come up with rather than Sparda, Mavis herself reveals that Sparda was actually quite the ladies man in his youth, albeit a bit more gentlemanly than Dante. Sparda himself does not deny this, simply saying 'I was young' when questioned. Just the image of the Legendary Dark Knight, the Greater-Scope Paragon of the series being a shameless flirt is worth a chuckle.
    • When the judges clarify that only Mirajane and Jenny will actually be ranked, and irritated Lady (clad in a bikini) angrily asks why they're even doing this then. Seeing Dante grinning at this, she gives him the finger.
    • Evergreen joins the event as well, wanting a chance to compete with Erza once again. When the judges call for a bondage gear round, Evergreen approaches Erza in a revealing leather outfit, asking if she's accepted her place beneath her yet. In response, Erza, who is wearing something too revealing to be appropriate for description and wielding a whip, demands to know why she dares to speak to her. This, in addition to her intimidating aura and complete lack of shame in standing tall in such an outfit, causes Evergreen to meekly bow her head in submission.
      Evergreen: Sorry ma'am.
    • Throughout the whole thing, Kyrie and Nero become increasingly mortified by the event, especially when she is forced to participate in the swimsuit showcase. This, plus Cana's teasing results in both members of the couple going red faced with steam coming off their head, a funny reminder that both were raised in a religious order. Nero's uncharacteristic shyness makes it even funnier, especially with Gajeel commenting he was on that island for too long.
    • An obviously excited Dante tells Natsu and Gray to enjoy the show, remarking this is how boys become men. When Natsu states he doesn't see the appeal of half-naked girls, Dante advises him to focus on Lisanna and Lucy. When we cut to the trio later, Dante is grinning like a madman, while Gray and Natsu are red faced, the latter barely able to form a sentence.
      Gray: Congratulations. You broke Natsu.
      Dante: Thus, he has now entered manhood. Mission accomplished.
    • During the blushing bride challenge, Laxus accompanies Mirajane, to both help her win and keep 'his sleazy grampa away'. Mirajane states this gentlemanliness already makes him better than Makarov, who crying from both the insult, and in pride.
      Makarov: My little grandboy's all grown up!
    • During the same event, Sparda asks many of the male members why they're hiding behind the seats. Turns out, Gildarts has become very protective of Cana, scaring off anyone who so much as looks her way with his Battle Aura, and no one is willing to risk his ire by 'marrying' her.
    • Ooba decides to crash the event, promising to show everyone a 'real woman'... by showing off her wrinkly old body in a swim suit. Everyone, male and female alike, goes pale with wide eyes and slack jaws, but the kicker goes to Dante, who goes blank faced... right before shooting himself in the head with Ebony. An unconcerned Lady remarks he can heal so he'll be fine. The judges ask the other teams to clear out, their enthusiasm completely gone (even Jason), and everyone else's mood has just plummeted, several asking if they can gouge their eyes out.
    • Afterwards, Jenny suggests a bet where the loser has to pose naked in the next Sorcerer Weekly, to which Dante instantly revives. A watching Nero rhetorically asks if Mirajane would go for that, and grows concerned when the others don't answer. To everyone's shock, Mirajane agrees, and the judges excitedly comment that no matter who loses, everyone else wins, a sentiment Dante eagerly agrees with.
    • The final round is combat gear, and Jenny mentally gloats that the bet has ensured her victory, even as she goes for her sexiest combat form... only for Mirajane to enter her Sitri Soul, and declare that in the spirit of the bet, they will be going back to a more traditional battle, to Jenny's horror. Before anyone can fully process this, Mirajane has already defeated Jenny, who begins comically crying when her opponent offers to buy the issue in question upon release. Meanwhile, a watching Dante decides to buy the issue as well, and make sure to get it framed!
  • Happy's obsession with fish rears it's head again, this time in response to seeing Yukino summon Pisces, drooling at the sight of the two massive fish. The others snark that with the size difference, it'd be more likely for the fish to eat him, and when he protests that being against the natural order, Lady dryly responds he's clearly never encountered sharks or piranhas. Even Kyrie gets in on it by reminding him that they're spirits, he couldn't eat them if he tried.
  • When Bacchus is apologising to Mirajane and Lisanna, the latter irately informs him that she is seeing someone. Just as he asks who, Natsu suddenly appears and sends him flying with a punch to the face. Turns out, Lucy told him about Bacchus' condition for the bet, and he was not amused.
• Ch 34 Crimson Wrath
  • When the others wonder where Gray is, Dante mentions he's off dealing with his girlfriend and 'boyfriend', to everyone's amusement. Happy in particular decides to use this to tease him later, and Carla expresses her sympathy.
    Carla: I do not envy that boy. The craziness he has to deal with is beyond normal, even by our standards.
  • While Erza is catching up with her friends, Wally and Milliana agree that a fight between her and Sho would be a slaughter in her favour, to his indignation.
  • Sparda and Kurenai bonding over raising children when he hears she adopted Kagura is heartwarming. Things briefly turn hilarious when it leads to the two most powerful warriors on Earthland starting a competition reminiscent of soccer parents regarding their respective children's accomplishments.
    Sparda: When did you first train her?
    Kurenai: When she was ten.
    Sparda: Impressive. (half-smile) Though, Dante and Vergil started their training when they were around six so...
    Kurenai: (half-smile) And by training, you mean they beat each other with wooden swords like a pair of immature boys.
  • Sheeree takes the opportunity to intercept Yukino, intending to arrange a reunion between her and Sorano, and introducing herself to the girl as "somebody who knows a certain someone that you also know" with a smile... which fades when Sorano fails to appear. After asking Yukino to wait for a moment she goes into a nearby alleyway, and has to drag the elder sister out into the open against her protests.
  • After hearing that Jiemma actually considered raping Yukino for her 'failure', Natsu gets ready to go charging over to Sabertooth, only being stopped by Gray... who says he's not going to hog all the fun, wanting a piece of them as well. Extra funny because Lucy had just praised for stopping Natsu from doing something reckless.
    Lucy: You totally missed the point!
  • While making their way to the stadium, Lucy apologizes to Yukino for the others snoring while they shared a room. She is surprised, and impressed, when the girl states she didn't hear a thing, apparently having slept through all of it.
  • After Arcadios reveals the order from Princess Hisui herself to take care of Yukino on their behalf, the members of Fairy Tail are surprised they have a princess, before lampshading how little they follow the kingdoms politics, not even having seen the King before.
  • As the third day begins, the various guild members start theorizing what the 'Pandemonium' event could entail, with Makarov suggesting it could be something similar to a haunted house, complete with ghosts and Jump Scare's, scaring Patty, Romeo, Happy, and Carla. Right after Gildarts points out that they deal with demons on a regular basis, Mavis says she finds the haunted house premise terrifying to everyone's shock.
    Lady: Hey, aren't you a ghost yourself? Plus, you were raised by a demon.
    Mavis: Daddy's a nice demon! Not a scary demon!
    Sparda: Thank you, Mavis.
  • Apparently Toby is still mourning the loss of his sock, to the exasperation of Yuka, who tells him to just buy a new one.
• Ch 35 There's No Stopping Us!
  • After Erza's spectacular victory in Pandemonium, Hibiki expresses admiration for Ichiya's 'girlfriend', musing he'd love to go out with her. A shocked Quatro Puppy member responds thusly.
    Nobarly: If you think you're wild enough to make it past that beast, you go right ahead pretty boy.
  • When Hibiki flirts with Cana, she teasingly responds her dad might not approve. When he states his confidence on getting into fathers good graces, she points out Gildarts in the Fairy Tail box, who is emitting a dark aura, complete with red eyes, that causes the Tri-Men to reconsider. The other members of Fairy Tail also back away from the Boyfriend-Blocking Dad... with the exception of Sparda, who approves of his attitude. You have to pity anyone foolish enough to hit on Mavis or Zera growing up.
    Sparda: Good man.
  • Throughout Pandemonium and the Magic Power contest, Cana is seen steadily drinking and becoming increasingly intoxicated. Nero is incredulous at Mirajane's comment that it 'might' impact her performance before pointing out several barrels she's drank already, in plain view to boot, and wonders how she's even alive!
    • After winning the round, she suggests they go for drinks later, he asks how she's sober all of a sudden, which she cheekily responds is her secret magic at work.
  • Hibiki gets ready to try his best... and comically falls into tears when his score doesn't even reach three digits like the others. The shock of all the watching females adds to it.
  • After scoring the highest in the competition thus far, Orga once again decides to give a rap, by swiping Mato's mic no less.
  • Upon Jura almost doubling Orga's already incredible score, Nero has an amusing Oh, Crap! at realizing how terrifying his opponent from the first day was.
    Nero: Holy shit... and I actually went up against that guy...
  • During his battle against Eve, Rufus uses his Memory Make to conjure a 'memory' of Ichiya in a bathtub while drinking a glass of wine and his signature "Man...!", all to make a momentary opening. Everyone watching is greatly disturbed, with Fairy Tail Team A all shuddering, while as Lucy covers Wendy's eyes and Erza turns purple out of disgust. Even the Blue Pegasus members are mortified, including Ichiya himself!
    Dante: His memory...? I don't even wanna know...
    
    Ren: Don't tell me this is somewhere deep in his memory!
    Hibiki: Yeah, no kidding! You've got some explaining to do sir!
    Jenny: Oh god... I need to bleach my eyes...!
    Ichiya: Please believe me when I say that I have absolutely no memory of this scandalous parfum, man!
  • After Eve's brutal defeat, Ichiya assures his teammates that they have a secret weapon, in his usual dramatic flair. He also maintains the 'secret' aspect even from them to ensure their opponents are caught off guard, to which Ren and Hibiki wonder if it's someone from outside the guild
    Ichiya: We have a secret weapon that is certain to lead us to victory. (Hibiki, Jenny, and Ren stare blankly for a few seconds) Yes, we have a secret weapon. (all three look at the bunny suit, who nods in confirmation) It's so important that I had to mention it to you twice.
• Ch 36 Thunder and Sky
  • While most of Fairy Tail is happy Raven Tail got what was coming to them, Gray and Natsu are annoyed that they didn't get their own chance to pay back the dark guild. Natsu even grumbles that Laxus and Sapphire could have saved some of the fight for them.
  • In the midst of everyone expressing satisfaction at Raven Tail being caught red handed, Toby happily remarks that his sock has been avenged.
  • In spite of all the extra combat training Modeus gave her, Wendy still manages to trip as she enters the arena, moments after Sherria did the same.
  • As Romeo joins in on shouting encouragement to Wendy, Trish teases him by saying 'his girlfriend' will be just fine, to his embarrassment. This grows when most of the adults join in or start talking about obvious his crush is, prompting him to remind that latter group he's right next to them and can hear everything they're saying.
  • Ooba says that in light of how well Sherria fought she won't spin the girl as punishment, prompting smiles from the rest of Lamia Scale... before she decides to spin them instead in response to their guild losing the match.
    Toby: WHYYYYYY!?
• Ch 37 Fangs Bared
  • Sapphire and Kurenai appear in front of Fairy Tail during their celebration, the former apologizing for her actions while undercover before saying she has something important to ask of him, with a serious expression on her face. Everyone tenses, expecting a fight... right before she pulls out a pen and paper and asks for his autograph with a big smile! Turns out she's actually a big fan of his, to everyone's shock.
  • Upon Sapphire introducing her best friend, a yellow Exceed named Amarilla, Lady Lampshades how every Dragon Slayer seems to have an Exceed companion. When Trish points out Laxus doesn't, Dante snarks that's because the Thunder Legion fulfils that role for him.
  • Happy boasting to Amarilla of how he defeated Nelo Angelo in Edolas, which Carla reprimanding to Happy that's not even close how it happened.
  • Like canon, Natsu and Happy starting a barrel-surfing competition, with the former forgetting about his motion sickness. Making things worse, he slams right into the table where Dante, Trish, and Lady were sitting to the latter's ire. Several others have their own attempts, including the visiting Bruni and Sapphire, the former of whom uses Prometheus as a booster before slamming into a wall, and the latter forgets about her motion sickness before Amarilla can remind her.
  • For the fourth days event, the announcers happily introduce the participating female members, noting it's going to be quite a spectacle for the audience... but forget to introduce poor Rocker of Quatro Puppy, who complains about being ignored.
    • Later on, he gets eliminated by Aries wool, and is further saddened at both the audience and the announcers obvious delight at the participants being comprised entirely of bikini clad females. Poor Quatro Puppy just can't catch a break.
• Ch 38 Dogs and Pegasi - Lamia and Mermaids
  • Pretty much the entirety of The Reveal of the blue rabbit among Blue Pegasus' ranks, who turns out to be Nichiya, Ichiya's Exceed counterpart. Everyone watching goes slack jawed with a Big "WHAT?!", Erza feels ill and nearly collapses, and after the two do a team pose Patty gives this gem.
    Patty: Whatever it is... I regret looking at it. (covers eyes) I'd rather see Dante and Lucy fight demons again rather than look at whatever that thing is!
    • Ichiya's recounting of how they met is just as funny. Apparently one day he decided to wander through the woods, and the S-Class wizard of Blue Pegasus just got lost for so long he needed to be rescued by his Exceed counterpart. The two apparently instantly bonded after a back and forth consisting entirely "Man" and "Meow", with the entire recap made all the better by the fact that Ichiya's narrating! Afterwards, an exasperated Jenny says they shouldn't let him go off on his own in future.
  • The members of Fairy Tail discuss which side they're rooting for in the battle between Lamia Scale and Mermaid Heel, with several voting for either on personal reasons. Wakaba, Macao, Max, Warren, Jet, Droy and Reedus admit they're voting for Mermaid Heel on account of the number of hot females involved.
  • When Gildarts and several others are discussing the upcoming match between Dante, Vergil and the Dragon Slayers, Mavis states that despite the training gap between the brothers, she is confident Dante and the others will be able to pull off a win before saying to sit back and enjoy the show... right before slipping and falling flat on her back.
    Gildarts: First Master!
    Trish: I'm gonna pretend we didn't see that.
    Lisanna: Good idea.
  • As Lamia Scale are preparing for their battle with Mermaid Heel, Lyon wonders if their victory would impress Juvia enough to make her fall in love with him.
    Yuka: (sweatdrop) Ah geez, get your priorities straight, man.
    Sho: Whatever gets him motivated I guess.
  • Throughout the chapter, Nero grows increasingly annoyed at Rabian saying "Thank you", culminating in him firing a warning shot from Blue Rose to cut him off.
• Ch 39 Devils and Dragons
  • In the midst of their battle, Dante matches Vergil's use of new gauntlet and greaves Devil Arm, Ifrit, with Beowulf before and declaring "Slugfest, bro! Me and you". In response, Vergil manages to nail him with a punch to the chest before giving the below line. Seems he's picked up a sense of humour over the timeskip.
    Vergil: It's "you and I". (pounds him headfirst into ground) Grammar, Dante.
  • In the aftermath of the Dragon Force empowered Sting and Rogue's all out attack against their opponents, the three members of Fairy Tail are left lying in the crater their opponents attacks formed. The members of Fairy Tail desperately call for them to get up, the audience is saddened by the turnaround, while Sting and Rogue (and much of the watching Sabertooth) are satisfied in their victory as Vergil enters between them... and warns Dante that this charade could make the ref actually declare their loss. Cue a "damn, you're right" from Dante, as he Natsu and Gajeel get up like nothing happened. Turns out, they all pretended to get clobbered solely to punk their smug opponents, with Natsu and Gajeel following Dante's lead as soon as they caught on to what he was doing. Most of Fairy Tail goes white in shock, Romeo is incredulous they'd go this far for a joke, Laxus is embarrassed that the whole world saw, while Gildarts and Mavis laugh, the latter having picked up on the ruse from the get go.
    • After seeing the above, Porlyusica remarks to Sparda that Dante clearly inherited his sense of humour. With a grin similar to his sons, the Legendary Dark Knight asks why that's a bad thing.
  • Just how casually the Fairy Tail members diss Sting and Rogue's power in Dragon Force, Natsu nonchalantly saying Erza's smacked him harder than they did. When Rogue tries to convince himself that his opponent is bluffing Gajeel laughs and gives the below gem.
    Gajeel: Does Salamander look like the type that's smart enough to bluff.
  • Like in canon, Gajeel gets unceremoniously pushed away into a mining cart that immobilizes him in his motion sickness at the hands of Natsu, complete with a trollish grin and everyone shocked at such audacious action.
  • A Fiore Royal Army soldier explains to Sergeant Yukino that the Sakura Knights Squadron affectionately refer to their leader Arcadios as "Dio".
• Ch 40 The Eclipse Project
  • Fairy Tail basking in their victory has quite a few moments, many members engaging in their usual antics.
    • Lucy trying to get Natsu, Gray, and Nero to stop fighting with Dante and Mirajane undermining her. She then tries to get Gildarts to calm things down, only for it to backfire spectacularly.
      Lucy: Are you really gonna let those three go at it like a bunch of little kids?!
      Gildarts: Oh hell no! Hey, Natsu! Quit fighting like a little kid! Fight like a man! Show the same kind of guts you did against those wannabe Dragon Slayers!
      Lucy: Seriously!?
    • The escalating fight has poor Happy caught in between all three fighters attacks, freezing the poor Exceed, burning his fish, and sending both flying towards the girls, to the guys remorse. Lady and Trish decide to enter the fray over the food lost.
    • Erza scolds everyone for fighting so much, noting they only got as far as they did by working together, saying they should remain calm and reasonable... before asking why they had to ruin her cake and telling them to die with dignity. When Nero calls her a gorilla she holds her sword to the now very nervous young mans throat and asks him what he just called her. Which leads to...
      Dante: He said you were a gorilla. And you got the strength of one for sure. So how about instead of wasting that freaky strength of yours going at the minnows, you take on the shark. (pulls out Rebellion with a diabolical grin) Unless you're a chicken instead.
      Erza: (matching grin) Oh? Well I don't blame your boldness from your victory today Dante, I believe I'm more than capable of putting up a greater fight than Vergil could. That said, are you really willing to see for yourself? (chuckles sinisterly)
      Dante: (same tone) And are you forgetting you never once beat me in a fight?
    • As the above happens, everyone backs away in fear and Lucy once again desperately tries to get an authority figure to deescalate things. This time asking a smiling Sparda and Mavis, with the former remarking that they're ghosts and can't physically interfere, and the latter is intrigued to find out who's the guilds best sword fighter more than anything.
  • There's something morbidly funny about Orga having to remind Minerva and Vergil about Jiemma's decapitated body, as well as Minerva herself treating her father’s corpse as another chore to deal with purely so they don't break the rules and get disqualified from the Games.
  • When she and Yukino are left in their cell, Lucy takes a moment to test the bars and informs her fellow Celestial Wizard that this is her fifth time being kidnapped. This, plus her counting off how many doomsday devices her guild has stopped is funny in how casual the typically high strung girl treats the whole thing.
  • Mato expressing disappointment that the Sabertooth and Fairy Tail teams no longer have Vergil and Dante in them respectively, since that means there won't be an epic rematch. Much of the audience agrees.
• Ch 41 The Fairy Tactician
  • Kurenai apparently told the other Wizard Saints about the Eclipse Gate to ensure they have more backup, though only Aurora, Bruni, and Gandelina could make. While most are busy elsewhere, Bruni flatly replies God Serena didn't even bother to respond, to to Kurenai's annoyance.
  • Everyone's confusion, and in the case of the watching Fairy Tail members, growing frustration, as the participating members of Fairy Tail spend the first portion of the final event just standing at their starting position with their eyes closed.
  • Sparda looks on in pride as Mavis displays her tactical prowess by directing Fairy Tail to victory in the battle royale... though internally remarks that her naming sense still hasn't improved upon hearing "Operation Fairy Stars".
  • In the midst of Dante's Shut Up, Hannibal! to Hisui's attempt to intimidate them, he says he's mainly giving her a chance to surrender because she's hot, prompting a sweatdrop from the females present.
• Ch 42 Creative Battle
  • Sparda and several members of Fairy Tail's deadpan annoyance at the revelation that Rufus has not just Memory Make, but excellent memory himself after he reads several spellbooks in a library.
    Sparda: It seems he's also a speed reader.
  • While Gray triumphing over Rufus is a well earned and awesome victory, the fact that the tools he used to do so were his superior melee skills and insults can bring a chuckle when one remembers he developed them (moreso the latter) from his long and vitriolic friendship with Natsu. Training through petty squabbling!
  • After Yukino sincerely thanks Dante for his advice, calling him a kind man, Happy teases Lady that she might miss her chance. Her response?
    Lady: (deadpan expression, holds up a gun) This thing is fully loaded.
    Happy literally zips his mouth shut
  • Carla and Panther-Lily lampshading how many tangled family trees seem connected to Fairy Tail.
  • The irony of that fact Fairy Tail's chances of escaping and surviving the Palace of Perdition actually increase from people trying to kill them.
  • Fairy Tail snarking at Moloch's obvious ego, Natsu remarking that he's sick of dealing with arrogant villains (outside of punching their teeth in of course). After the heroes are separated, Dante continues to mock him and undercut his attempts at a dramatic showdown/revenge against Sparda, with the demons ego giving him plenty of ammunition to work with.
    Dante: Did you seriously just say your own name twice in the same monologue? Jeez, how big an ego can you get?
• Ch 43 True Justice
  • While Moloch's reveal that all the Wolf Knights know Pandemonium (which is actually spell he created to help make a name for himself) does a good job selling how dire the stakes are for Fairy Tail, it makes the Games event much funnier in hindsight. The royal family has an ancient and powerful demon sealed up in their deadliest prison, force him to teach their elite executioners his greatest spell to deal with criminals... and also use it as a form of entertainment for the masses! One can only imagine an egomaniac like Moloch's reaction if he ever found out.
  • As Gildarts and several of the former masters of Fairy Tail discuss the current situation, Mavis notes that even with the justification of saving Lucy and stopping the Eclipse Gate, they'll have to write a lot of apology letters in the aftermath. This quickly derails the conversation to all the former guildmasters bemoaning the sheer amount of such apologies they've had to write for their more destructive members, their financial difficulties, and just the amount of paperwork in general running the guild entails. What's more, Mavis says she still holds a grudge against Sparda for not taking the position of First Master since it left her to deal with all of that.
  • Asuka complimenting Mavis for how smart she is is undercut by expressing sincere surprise that the first master is an adult, and making repeated comments about how short she is. Seeing Mavis' own increasingly flustered reaction adds to it, and by the end Sparda can barely contain his laughter.
  • During the fight with Uosuke, Lucy decides to bring out Gemini and gets them to transform into her... in a bathing suit, because of course.
    Yukino: Why is she in a swimsuit?
    Lisanna: (wincing smile) That was the last appearance Lucy had when she summoned Gemini.
• Ch 44 Past and Future Revelations
  • As the rescue team continues to trek towards the exit, Sheeree complains about how long it's taking and the sheer size of the place.
    Sheeree: Okay, seriously... how big is this damn cave?! For that matter... why do they even need a dungeon this big?!
  • When the rescue team come to the exit of the dungeon, a giant stone door. Natsu gears up to break it down with a powerful punch... only for it to start opening by itself, him trying to halt his momentum and tripping as a result. While everyone else prepares for a fight, he's still stuck rolling across the floor before stopping awkwardly right at the opening.
  • Amongst the Fairy Tail members watching the Games, Freed proudly declares their lead is assured on account of "[his] dear friend Laxus" being on the team... despite him not having fought anyone yet. Evergreen is annoyed that he left the rest of the Thunder Legion out of his claim while Bickslow joins in on the cheering. An annoyed Patty asks if they're always this obsessed with Laxus, prompting Makarov to inform her this is them toned down.
  • Mavis' Flat "What" when Kagura attacks Erza instead of Minerva, along with Lucia ambushing Nero, completely derailing her plan. Cue the Fairy Tactician desperately trying to stand tall and not cry over having been wrong, coming across as a child who messed up her homework rather than a Chessmaster whose masterstroke was foiled.
    Mavis: No...! I'm not gonna cry about it... These things... just happen sometimes... Daddy says so...!
  • Natsu and Happy being confused by the situation relayed about the Bad Future Lucy came from, replying a vastly simplified version from Cana.
    Sheeree: Well, you two are as dense as rocks.
    Lady: You're only just figuring that out now?
  • In the aftermath of Minerva's defeat, Nero happens to notice cat ears poking out of Milliana's cleavage, and nervously asks one of the others to take care of it while bashfully looking away. Rebellious as he was, the lad was still raised in a religious order and clearly doesn't do well with the usual fanservice from the Fairy Tail side of things.
    Nero: Hey... could one of you uh... (looks away and gestures to ears) If my girlfriend found out I did something like that... she'd probably kill me...
• Ch 45 Love That Transcends Time
  • Lyon's jealousy at seeing Gray lift Juvia's spirits.
  • When the rescue group learn of the deadline to the Eclipse Gate opening, they decide stealth is out and opt to take "the direct route". Cue Natsu eagerly breaking down a wall.
    Mirajane: I don't think the kingdom is going to be happy about this.
    Lady: They can send us the bill! We've got the end of the world to stop!
• Ch 46 The Demon Within
  • Gajeel gaining the same shadow jumping powers as Legion lets him keep up with the entity in Rogue's body, setting off a riveting chase scene... but appears as two shadows with zero distinguishing traits clashing to the audience, and is almost impossible to follow. Lampshaded by the announcers.
    Yajima: I have no clue of what's going on right now.
    Chapati: How am I able to do a play-by-play of something I can't even see?! Sorry folks, all I can say is that something crazy is going on!
  • The members of Fairy Tail teasing Gray after Juvia kisses him on the forehead.
    Gildarts: Ha, ha! Gray, you are one lucky guy!
    Patty: But he's about as dense and stupid as Natsu if he can't reciprocate her feelings!
    Gildarts: Geeze, how old are you, kid?
  • As Laxus and Sapphire gear up for a fight, the Blood Knights have a moment of shared terror when Jura approaches them, looking for a fight of his own. The Fairy Tail member even sports an "Oh, Crap!" Smile.
• Ch 47 Tournament's End - Power vs. Strength
  • Ooba's attempts to boast that Jura stepping onto the battlefield guarantees Lamia Scale's victory is undercut by Yuka pointing out that with the current scores, at best they'll end up in fourth place.
  • The Running Gag of Ooba threatening to spin anyone who upsets her... after she's already started to do so.
  • Minor, but the watching members of Fairy Tail lampshading what an Anti-Climax Boss Sting turns out to be, despite the buildup from previous chapters and having managed to stay fresh throughout the final event.
    Gajeel: Am I the only one who feels kinda let down here?
    Nero: Yeah, he's doing the same thing he did when he fought Dante and Natsu. Guy didn't learn a damn thing.
• Ch 48 Mastermind
  • When asked about his favourite fight from the tournament, Yajima responds with Mirajane and Jenny's pose off.
    Yajima: I hadn't felt that young in years.
    Chapati: Well, this is awkward.
  • Nebra's reaction to realizing Meredy hit him and Kamika with a Sensory Link.
