Heartwarming / Fairy May Cry

Go To

As is the case with all pages detailing Heartwarming Moments, Spoilers Off

The basic premise of the story is Dante, whose sole remaining family member repeatedly tries to kill him, and all his allies (each with their own Dark and Troubled Past) get to join Fairy Tail. There are plenty of these to bring a smile to your face.

    General
  • The fact that the Dante and the other Devil May Cry characters join Fairy Tail, giving them all a much larger support network than they had in canon. Especially poignant when you remember the guild essentially acts as a Family of Choice for those with poor relations with their blood relatives.
  • In Canon, the Edolas arc debuts Lisanna but she quickly becomes textbook case of Out of Focus. Here, she joins the main cast and she gets plenty of moments to shine, which is considerably heartwarming in its own right.
  • Even though his mind has been ravaged by his curse for centuries, Zeref still fondly remembers his old friend and savior Sparda. Every single time he brings up the Dark Knight, his words are filled with nothing but respect and adoration.
    • And Sparda reciprocated this friendship; in The Neo Oracion Seis, he mentions that one of the founders of the Order of the Sword was "a young man with vast knowledge of the magical arts, one of the most powerful wizards I've seen and had the pleasure of knowing: Zeref".

Fairy May Cry

    Vergil Arc
  • Ch. 5 Settling In
    • Just how well Dante has settled in to Fairy Tail, having formed a rapport with many of the members, even the likes of Gajeel.
    • Wendy's earnest admiration of Dante, greatly admiring both his skills and character.
    • After learning that Natsu has been searching for Igneel for seven years, Dante offers to help him however he can, even mentioning that his father knew several dragons (though he himself has only seen pictures). Just how casually he offers this shows off his willingness to help people, despite how flippant he usually acts.
  • Ch. 6 Lightning Storm: Despite having fought the woman twice in the past few days (with the second time being minute ago), Erza offers Trish a place at Fairy Tail, displaying respect for her abilities and harboring no ill will (outside of some initial irritation at her and Dante).
  • Ch. 7 Vergil
    • Trish finds Wendy to be adorable, even affectionately patting her on the head.
    • When Vergil showed up to battle Dante, Natsu, Gray, Ezra, Happy, and Lucy had grown concerned and went to look for him. They were shocked enraged when Vergil stabbed him (albeit nonfatally) and immediately attacked Vergil for this, starting the hostility with the man from then on. Shows just how much they care about their friend, despite not having known him that long.
  • Ch 8 Family History: Trish speaking up on Dante's behalf when Carla starts to openly judge his character. She also waits for him to wake up, respecting his decision on how he chooses to inform Fairy Tail of his past.
  • Ch. 9 Clipping the Fairies Wings
    • Porlyuscia mentions that she knew Sparda, and he was one of the few people she respected, being greatly saddened at his death. High praise given her typically low opinion on people.
    • Despite having never met him before, Jet, Droy, Macao and Wakaba are immediately hostile towards Vergil for his attack on Dante, who they consider one of their own. Despite not knowing him that long, they already consider him a true member of Fairy Tail.
  • Ch. 10 More Fairies Fall: Small, but Cana reminding Alzack and Bisca about Lucy's fathers current financial situation implies the girl was comfortable enough to share the details of that event with the rest of the guild. Goes to show how close she has become with them all.
  • Ch. 11 Satan Soul vs. Devil Trigger
    • While worried about their missing friends, Elfman asks that Mira stay by his side so he can protect her. Mira gently reminds him she can take care of herself, and assures him that they will find their friends.
    • While Vergil bringing up Lisanna's death to rattle Mira is a Tearjerker, both Mira and Elfman make it clear that neither of them blame the other for their role (whether through action or inaction), and instead focused on helping each other with the grief of losing a sibling.
  • Ch. 12 A True Devil
  • Ch. 13 A Devil's Game: When Dante tries to insist that taking out Vergil is his responsibility, the others are having none of that and declare they're helping him, no arguments. Dante himself is greatly surprised by this level of camaraderie, especially given he hasn't been a member for that long.
    • A big part of the reason Dante wants to do this alone is for fear of his friends, old and new, getting hurt. It's not needed for all of them, but it's nice to see a reminder of how much he really cares about others.
  • Ch. 14 Natsu vs Griffon:
    • The fact that Sparda had an army of dragons backing him up in his battle against Mundus meant he didn't have to bear the burden alone in this continuity.
    • Natsu going full reverse Papa Wolf on Griffon for daring to threaten Igneel.
  • Ch. 16 Demon vs. Spirits: Loke summoning himself in order to protect Lucy from Vergil, and fiercely denies his assertation that she is weak.
  • Ch. 17 Devil Prince VS. Fairy Queen: Erza's first question to Vergil is to ask where he's keeping their friends locked up. And before the fight begins, she declares she will defeat him for the sake of them and Dante.
  • Ch. 18 Epic Clash: Natsu vs Vergil
    • Before his fight with Natsu, Vergil confirms that Sparda fought alongside the dragons and several human mages against Mundus' forces, and in fact told him stories about them when Vergil was a boy. It's nice to hear that Sparda had actual companions in this version, and held them in high enough regard that he told stories about them to his children. The fact that Vergil was willing to just tell Natsu this counts for someone like him.
    • Natsu intercepting Vergil's swing at Wendy and calling her his little sister in the process.
  • Ch. 19 A Son of Sparda and a Son of Igneel
    • When the others hear why Vergil wants Dante's medallion, despite Dante not wanting to have them involved and Vergil showing them his power, the remaining Fairy Tail members still want to help him, stating that he's a true member of Fairy Tail, which leaves Dante speechless.
Dante: [thinking] Me... They're doing this for me?
    • When Wendy helps Natsu after he took Vergil's swing for her, Natsu says that they're both members of Fairy Tail, and therefore family. He outright states that he sees her as a little sister.
    • Seeing Dante struggling with Vergil, Natsu is determined to help his friend and decides to eat the demon fire (which is poisonous) to reach Dragon Force and get payback against Vergil for what he did; not just beating him, but hurting all his friends and family. He then proceeds to mercilessly attack Vergil for almost killing Dante, kidnapping his friends, and making Wendy cry.
  • Ch.20 A Devil's Home with The Fairies:
    • In the aftermath, while in the infirmary with Mira, she says that it's her fault Lisanna died (showing her fight with Vergil still affects her), to which Natsu says he never blamed her for it. He says instead they should smile for her sake, with the older female smiling at that.
    • Lady agrees to officially join Fairy Tail, with the others not caring that she's not a wizard.
    • Fairy Tail wanting to help Dante against Vergil despite how dangerous he is, and not blaming him for the actions of his brother. When Dante tries to leave to avoid attracting more danger Makarov gives him the following speech.
Makarov: Even if you warned us about Vergil or the demons it wouldn't have changed anything. Everyone has demons in their past that will haunt them and you can't the fact that those who are weak but those don't necessarily have to be bad things sure humans may be physically weaker than demons and people past and end up hurt but those insecurities are the reason why guilds exist in the first place and they're why we have friends. When the people who care for us surround us it's easier to have positive motivation. Yes there will always be bumps in the road and we may even doubt ourselves from time to time but as long as we have faith in those people and ourselves especially we can continue marching forward. You have your own path to choose Dante don't let silly things like family heritage or an old sibling rivalry get in the way
Dante was rendered speechless at this and shed some Tears of Joy.
    • While it's not focused on, the fact that Trish knew where to find Dante indicates that he trusted her enough to both share the location and significance of his mother's grave.
    Edolas Arc
  • Ch. 21 "Last Promise":
    • Despite the man attempting to kill him, Dante plans to spare Baul even before Modeus' request and even offers to let Wendy heal him after their fight.
    • We get introduced to Modeus, with whom Wendy quickly bonds. When his brother Baul almost attacks her, Modeus is forced to kill him to protect her. Everyone there feels sympathy for Modeus, with Wendy saying she is sorry for his loss, to which he says that his brother was his reason to live and plans to wander the world. But it quickly segues back into Heartwarming when Wendy and the rest of Fairy Tail say that Modeus doesn't have to live that way and he can join the guild since many there have suffered lost loved ones. Modeus with a tear in his eye decides to join the Fairy Tail guild. Also counts as Heartwarming in Hindsight, given that he and Wendy eventually develop a father-daughter bond.
  • Ch. 22:Gildarts
    • The flashbacks of the young Natsu, Lisanna, and Happy are just adorable, being largely reminiscent of a small family. Between Natsu trying to catch fish for them to eat and Lisanna suggesting a place to look for Igneel, it's sweet how much they try to make each other happy.
    • The normally fight-happy Natsu being willing to swallow his pride and grovel to the forest Vulcan to keep Lisanna safe.
    • While deeply upset at being unable to find Igneel, it's clear that Gildarts acted as a father figure to the young dragon slayer, making time to spar with him and giving him encouragement when needed.
    • Despite being newcomers, Lady and Modeus have quickly settled into Fairy Tail and are obviously welcomed by all those present, albeit baffled by the constant madness that occurs.
    • Dante stops Natsu from recklessly rushing off to find Acnologia (in the hopes of leading him to Igneel), calming him down, and relating with his own Disappeared Dad. The devil hunter promises to help Natsu's quest in whatever way he can, causing the two to share a fist bump in a clearly brotherly moment.
  • Ch. 23 Earthland
    • Trish offers to give Happy some emotional support if he needs it after observing Carla's harsh attitude towards him.
    • As per canon, Wendy is overjoyed to see Mystogan again, thanking him for the help he gave her.
    • In the aftermath of Magnolia being pulled into the Anima, Dante is quick to comfort Wendy during her breakdown at losing her friends. Fortunately, Natsu and Modeus are revealed to still be with them.
  • Ch. 24 Edolas
    • While he heeds Carla's warnings about her, Dante refuses to be suspicious of Happy, saying he trusts the furball to have their back.
    • After hearing that Edolas has kidnapped their friends everyone present (sans Carla) immediately agrees to cross over to rescue them. This includes Modeus, who joined less than a week ago.
    • After discovering Edolas disables his Hyperspace Arsenal in addition to their magic, Dante quickly distributes his Devil Arms amongst the others so they have a way to fight. He also makes sure to give Wendy Cerberus, the only weapon without a sharp edge.
    • Special mention to Agni and Rudra, who quickly form a rapport with Natsu, expressing pride at being wielded by someone they consider to be a great warrior and being grateful he allows them to speak. Later, they offer to let Natsu and Wendy consume their respective elements once their power is restored, to the two Dragon Slayers' appreciation.
  • Ch. 25 The Fairy Hunter and The Black Angel
    • During everyone's Imagine Spot of what Erza's Edolas counterpart could be like, Wendy's involves the woman baking cake for them to eat eat and telling her to floss afterwards. When Modeus comments that sounds like a mother, Wendy admits that that's how she sees Erza.
    • While it's mixed with a Tearjerker, Natsu's sheer joy at being able to see Lisanna again and the montage of memories that follow.
    • In a flashback, shortly after joining Fairy Tail, a young Natsu is sitting depressed in the rain. Lisanna comes and cheers him up by asking questions about what it was like being raised by a dragon, to which he eagerly answers, and is full of praise for his foster father while doing so.
    • When the two were looking after Happy's egg, Lisanna calls him 'dear' when he arrives at the small hut they built, and blushes after he calls her honey.
    • While also a major Tearjerker, Natsu honored Lisanna's request to make her a grave, placing it outside the hut they kept Happy's egg so she could watch the sunrise even in death. Shows how much he cared for her.
    • While he could have been less blunt in stopping him, Dante prevents Natsu from acting rashly upon seeing (what he thinks) Lisanna's Edolas counterpart, and proceeds to order him some water and a seat to help him calm down. He then tells the others to give Natsu some space while the poor boy processes.
  • Ch. 26 Hunting in Edolas
    • Dante reveals that Mary was Lady's birth name, and that she had it changed due to personal issues, indicating that the two are close enough for her to confide in him about her past, which was left ambiguous in canon. He also holds off telling any more, citing that its her story to tell.
    • Unlike canon, where she decided to stay in the Edolas guildhall, here Lisanna decided to go and help Natsu, Dante, Happy, Wendy, Carla, and Modeus along with Lucy Ashley. While she has some awkward moments with Natsu a bit, the two quickly get along.
    • Lucy Ashley providing the group with magic weapons so they can defend themselves. Even though most of them can use Dante's Devil Arms is was a nice gesture, and gave Wendy something she could actually use.
  • Ch. 27 To Take A Stand
    • Dante's Dare to Be Badass speech is this on two levels, first on the importance of the strong using their power to protect the weak and the fact that he based it off his fathers ideology, showing how much he respects the man despite his issues. The fact that everyone there agrees really shows how fitting Fairy Tail is for him.
      • Said speech inspires Lucy Ashley to return to her guild to rally them to action, saying that the task of fixing their world shouldn't be left to people who aren't even from there.
      • She doesn't just abandon them either, and fact contacts Natsu Dragion and Edolas Eva to give them transport.
    • When Lucy Ashley returns to her guild Lisanna stayed much to the joy of her Earthland friends.
    • Despite their different personalities, Gajeel and his Edolas counterpart quickly hit it off, and rather than be annoyed, greatly respect the qualities the other has that they lack. Gajeel admires his counterparts eloquence, while his Edolas counterpart finds his straightforward nature refreshing. He also immediately agrees to help Gajeel and Trish find their friends.
  • Chapter 28 Unexpected Betrayal
    • Edolas Eva is a constant source of these, encouraging Natsu Dragion to be more confident, complementing Wendy and wishing the group luck in rescuing their friends.
      • While it's bittersweet, the fact that Dante gets to talk with his mother again, albeit without revealing his relation to her due to how difficult it would be to explain.
    • After Dante reveals that Eva is the Edolas counterpart of his mother, Lisanna, the others are quick to comfort him.
    • Lisanna is the one to stop Natsu from attacking King Faust, promising that they will rescue their friends with tears in her eyes.
    • Later, Natsu complements Lisanna for her resourcefulness, with her blushing in response.
  • Ch. 29 Extalia
    • Wendy refusing to believe that Carla would betray her. Likewise, Dante is in complete disbelief that Happy would do such a thing, showing how fond he's grown of the blue cat.
    • After hearing that Lucy and Lisanna are going to be executed, everyone (but especially Dante and Natsu) make it clear that if anything happens to them there will be hell to pay.
    • Minor, but part of the reason Trish and Gajeel are hesitant to launch a frontal assault on the Lacrima is that some civilians will be caught in the cross-fire. Shows that despite their attitudes both are surprisingly considerate of the damage they can do, even if it is to people (albeit unknowingly) cheering at the use of their friends as Human Resources.
    • The thing that pushes Happy to stand up to Nichiya and Nabi? The fact that their actions made Carla cry.
      • That was just the last push needed. While the two Exceeds praise them for competing their mission, he recalls memories of growing up at Natsu's side as well as some more recent times with Dante, who he clearly considers a close friend. The blue tomcat then adamantly states that they are members of Fairy Tail first and foremost, showing how much his friends mean to him, and how much Natsu has influenced him.
  • Ch. 30 Fly! To Our Friends and Into Battle
    • While he doesn't trust Carla, Dante holds no animosity towards Happy's apparent 'betrayal', believing that he was either tricked or brainwashed. Despite not knowing him that long, he has plenty of faith in the blue Exceed.
      • Happy appears to reciprocate the feeling, referring to Dante as a cool guy he knows to Lucky and citing him as an example of how a persons species doesn't determine their character. It's clear he holds the demon hunter in high regard.
    • When Edolas Eva expresses concern for the Earthland groups (especially Dante) wellbeing, Lucy Ashley reassures her that they can take care of themselves, showing much more faith in her new friends capabilities.
    • From the same scene, Edolas Eva acting as a mother for Lucy Ashley, teasing her admiration of Dante and reigning her in when she puts Natsu Dragion in a submission hold.
    • Lucky and Marl are a fountain of these, providing Happy and Carla with shelter in their home, as well as being one of the few Exceeds not to have Fantastic Racism against humans, even saying that a persons character matters more than their species.
      • Marl continuously encourages Carla throughout the chapter, and aids Happy in refuting her worries of being a Manchurian Agent, saying that she can always help her friends even with her doubts. This causes Carla to give a sincere smile for the first time in the Edolas arc.
      • From the same scene, Happy refutes the idea that Carla could be a Manchurian Agent, saying that she's too intelligent and determined to fall pray to such a thing.
      • While less obvious about it, Lucky displays his own form of affection, being the one to offer to let them stay and refusing to contact the guards. While getting Happy to do chores he encourages the young Exceed to go the extra mile (in his own way) and his decision to 'kick them out' is rooted in the fact that their friends need them more than he and Marl do.
      • When Happy suggests letting Dante 'have words' with the queen after hearing about her plan to send one hundred Exceed eggs to Earthland, Marl immediately vetoes the idea, saying revenge merely poisons the one seeking it and isn't worth it. Wise words and it shows that despite her Broken Pedestal towards the queen, she is by no means a vengeful person.
    • At the end of the chapter, Happy and Carla regain their wings, having come to accept their nature as Exceeds while resolving to save their friends, a moment of triumph for them both.
    • The Reveal at the end of the chapter that the Exceed couple were actually Happy's biological parents, making the scene where they ask about his and Carla's names all the more poignant. After all these years, they finally get to see their son alive and well, and are secure knowing he has plenty of friends,(they think) a girlfriend. What's more, they're both proud of the person he's become, and his resolve to recue their friends.
      • It's implied that they kept the knowledge of their relation to him a secret so he wouldn't hesitate to go save his friends.
      • Also the simple fact that they were willing to let their son leave after only seeing him for a day after all these years, encouraging him to go save people who are strangers to them because it's the right thing to do.
  • Ch. 31 Code: ETD
    • While Dante is skeptical of Carla, Happy immediately jumps to her defense, with everyone else joining in. This convinces Dante to, albeit reluctantly, hold off interrogating her for the rest of the current crisis.
      • For her part, Carla admits her fault in keeping information from the others and apologizes to Dante, showing she wishes to make amends.
    • During his "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Erza Knightwalker, Dante heaps praise upon Erza Scarlet, calling her one of the strongest and bravest warriors he's ever met. High praise considering most of his allies (and enemies) before Fairy Tail consisted of skilled combatants, and showing how he respects her virtues as well as her power.
    • Natsu taking time to reassure Wendy during the magic extraction process, encouraging her while acting as a Defiant Captive. She even calls him 'big brother' in response.
    • Of all the spectators of the fight between Dante and Erza Knightwalker, Modeus shows the most faith in the son of Sparda, being unsurprised each time he bounces back from his injuries. He mentally applauds Dante's determination to match his opponent and protect his friends, while mentally comparing him favorably to Sparda.
    • Just as Dante is on his last legs, Lady and Grey make their presence known with a rocket and some ice, while Erza and Trish show up alongside them. Finally, the Earthland members of Fairy Tail are meeting up again.
  • Ch. 32 Fairy Tail Strikes Back
    • The groups reunion with Grey, Lady, Erza and Trish. Despite how brief it is, it's clear they're all glad to see one another.
    • Dante's faith in Erza, confidently saying there's no way she'd lose to 'a cheap knockoff', displaying great respect for his friends combat prowess.
      • Erza reciprocates, confidently saying that Dante would defeat Knightwalker even if she fails, and mentions that the two spar regularly, which clearly developed their current rapport.
    • Happy and Lady leave to fetch Gajeel to free the rest of their friends from the remaining Lacrima, with Lucy expressing concern. Dante reassures her, saying that Lady can definitely handle herself and calls Happy 'tough as nails' as well, showing he has plenty of faith in his old friend, as well as the young Exceed despite not knowing him as long.
    • When things are getting serious and they need all the help they can get, Lisanna confesses that she is not from Edolas but Earthland much to the others' shock (Natsu especially) and that's why she needed the X-ball to help. The others are skeptical about this, not believing her. Natsu on the other hand tells her to stop, then walks closer until their faces are inches apart, looking into her eyes. He then smiles and confirms it is her before telling her that she can explain everything later, since beating the bad guys comes first (which she excepted). Then he puts a hand on her shoulder and says that it's good to have her back. The guy clearly knows her well enough to tell with a single look.
      • Minor, but still present: Lisanna finally getting her Takeover Animal magic powers back after two years. Getting part of herself back again is heartwarming in its own right.
    • Wendy's insistence that they warn the Exceeds of the incoming danger, despite the fact that they sent Carla on a mission to kill her. She successfully convinces Carla to join, and Trish goes along to ensure they have backup.
      • The thing that makes Carla think the Exceeds are worth helping? Remembering Lucky and Marl. The couples kindness clearly left a positive impact on the girl.
    • Despite being enemies, Lucy warns Hughes and Sugarboy about Nelo Angelo's true loyalties, giving them a chance to stop him before he turned on them.
  • Ch. 33 Clash in E-Land Part 1
    • Despite losing plenty of friends to the Edolas forces, Lisanna is still the one to offer a teamup against Nelo Angelo with Hughes and Sugarboy. Too bad they refuse.
    • Despite everyone considering Edolas (in Dante's own words) 'a shithole' they adamantly refute Nelo Angelo's suggestion that it is not worth saving, citing there are plenty of good people who call it home. Dante in particular thinks of the Edolas version of his mother, giving him a chance to save her this time, even if it's not his Eva.
    • Coco stealing the Dragon Chain Cannon from King Faust and Byro after hearing that Panther-Lily will be caught in the explosion. She really cares for her friend.
      • Minor, but while King Faust dismisses Coco's concern for Panther-Lily, Byro at least tries to reassure her that the Exceed would be perfectly willing to lay down his life for their cause. It's a horrible thing to say to a child but credit to him for trying to ease her fears.
    • Upon seeing Coco being chased by Byro, Lucy and Lisanna do not hesitate to step in and protect the young girl, despite not knowing who she is or why she's being chased.
  • Ch. 34 Clash in E-Land Part 2
    • All present members of Fairy Tail are immediately willing to step in and protect Coco despite never having met her before and knowing nothing about the situation at hand.
      • When Byro questions Dante on why he's trying to protect someone from Edolas (who are his enemies) the latter retorts that his animosity is aimed solely at the soldiers and King, a child like Coco has done nothing to warrant his hatred.
      • Coco reciprocates the sentiment, being willing to give up the key (and with it the infinite magic the King promised) after learning that the Lacrima is made from their friends. She even says that she'd rather have unlimited peace than unlimited magic, showing the strongest moral compass of the residents of the Edolas capital so far.
    • Dante leaves Lucy and Lisanna to deal with an injured Nelo Angelo, expressing his belief that the two can take on the deadly demon. The son of Sparda clearly has plenty of faith in his friends abilities.
  • Ch. 35 Apocalyptic Dragon Chain Cannon
    • Trish physically and verbally defending Wendy and Carla when the Exceeds start insulting and throwing rocks at them.
    • Lady and Gajeel develop great respect for Panther-Lily's fighting prowess over the course of their fight, to which he clearly reciprocates. All three are clearly enjoying their fight.
    • Dante immediately recognizes that the Erza that approaches them is theirs, to which she admits she didn't expect her disguise to fool him, showing the mutual respect the two have for one another.
    • Lucy Ashley and Edolas Eva contact Edolas Gajeel to try and help them convince the rest of their guild to help their Earthland allies in the capital, showing great concern for their new allies (with Eva being particularly concerned about Dante, despite not knowing why). While they're not sold on the idea, Edolas Grey, Natsu Dragion and Mary were willing to assist the two.
    • Surprisingly, from the Edolas guards of all people, being unwilling to act while Dante and Erza hold King Faust hostage. They are even willing to give up the prospect of unlimited magic, defying his direct orders in the process, so long as it ensures his safety.
  • Ch. 36 Saving Edolas
    • When Happy reunites with Natsu, he is hesitant since the last time he saw him was during his and Carla's 'betrayal', and attempts to apologize. Then, the following exchange occurs.
Natsu(smirk): Come on, give me a hand buddy? Would ya?
Dante(also smirking): Come on you fur ball. You wanna help save our friends, or what?
      Happy(smile): Aye sirs!
    • Panther-Lily is shocked to see Coco amongst the group holding back the island with the Lacrima, clearly worried for her safety. For her part, Coco is relieved that he is alright, and repeats her statement about not needing infinite magic so long as they have infinite smiles, clearly wanting everyone, both her new and old friends, to be happy.
    • When an Exceed throws a rock at Carla Nabi actually takes the hit for her, to the trios surprise. He then chastises the Exceed who did so, and defends the trio, saying they should be thankful that the group are risking their lives to warn them of the incoming threat.
    • Even after Shagotte reveals that the Exceeds have very little power, and their 'superiority' was a sham she and the elders concocted, the citizens of Extalia still hold her in high regard, even amidst their own turmoil, even defending her from Trish's accusations. When she offers to let Carla kill her to give her 'justice' they all tearfully beg her not to go through with it, and refuse to leave her side after she is spared.
    • Trish reveals her origins to Wendy and Carla, being an artificial demon created by Mundus for the sole purpose of killing Dante, having been made in the form of his mother in order to make it easier. What pushes this into Heartwarming is that Dante treated her with enough kindness and respect that she ultimately couldn't go through with it, sticking by her new friends side. Dante even gave her his fathers sword as a sign of how much he trusts her, something that greatly touched her. Just how much praise she gives her first friends strength of character shows how much she truly admires him and all the good he does.
      • The above was done as part of her efforts to stop Carla down from killing Shagotte, both because she didn't want her friend to become a killer, and because despite the former queens many mistakes, she doesn't deserve to die. While clearly disgusted at the former queens actions, even having compared her to a demon, she believes the woman can still do make amends, a surprisingly sweet sentiment given its source.
    • The above clearly motivates Carla's decision to not kill Shagotte, and she instead gives all of Extalia a Rousing Speech, imploring them all to step up and save their homeland. What's more, she even refers to it as 'her' home in the process, showing that despite her issues with the place and its people, she does hold a connection to it.
    • Carla showing up to aid her friends in Fairy Tail causes Dante to admit she has guts, developing respect for the young Exceed despite his earlier animosity. This is then followed by every Exceed in Extalia joining in, eager to save their home, to a watching Panther-Lily's shock. Even Shagotte herself joins in, despite having only a single wing.
      • The words of the incoming Exceeds also count, with one joining in for the sake of their queen and the burden she had to bear all these years, and another being inspired by how Carla, Wendy and Trish came to help them, clearly grateful for their consideration.
      • When Shagotte begins to fall, to everyone's surprise it's Panther-Lily who catches her! The queen finally apologizes for unjustly exiling him all those years ago, clearly guilty over making him suffer to maintain the charade. A tearful Panther-Lily then admits that despite everything, he could never truly bring himself to hate his home, apologizing for not stopping this sooner.
    • While Panther-Lily's exile was a Tearjerker, the fact that as an Exceed he was willing to save a human child without hesitation, even outright saying that he cannot bring himself to ignore any badly wounded creature. Despite his shock after his exile he takes time to reassure the child that it was in no way his fault, and sets out to bring him home.
    • Mystogan showing up, having sent the Lacrima back to Earthland, confirming that all of their friends are safe. For their part, Panther-Lily and Coco are both overjoyed to their prince again, especially poignant when the narrative reveals that he was the child the former saved.
  • Ch. 37 Wrath! The Dorma Anim and the Onyx Reaper
    • Mystogan trying to use his authority as the prince to peacefully end the hostilities between the Edolas soldiers and the Exceeds. Sadly, Faust overrules him.
    • When Shagotte is unable to chase after the falling Panther-Lily, one of her fellow Exceeds hears her plea and rushes after him. Later, the two are joined by Mystogan, who intentionally threw his fight against Nelo Angelo and Faust to check up on his friend. He also mentally apologizes for leaving Natsu and co to deal with the Dorma Anim and Nelo Angelo, though he seems to have faith that they they will prevail.
    • When Dante, Modeus and the Dragon Slayers decide to confront Nelo Angelo and the Dorma Anim, they tell everyone else to focus on the Edolas soldiers attacking the Exceeds. Despite being concerned for their friends, the others agree and when a worried Coco asks if the group confronting the two villains will be okay, they all say they'll be fine, showing immense faith in their comrades.
      • Likewise, Dante and the Dragon Slayers respecting Modeus' request to fight Nelo Angelo (in his Onyx Reaper form) alone, with Dante praising his skill when expressing confidence in his friends ability to do so. The others reluctantly agree, though Wendy makes him promise to make it out alive.
    • When Faust targets Wendy with missiles and she trips after avoiding a few, Dante immediately disengages to intercept the ones heading for her. Meanwhile, Natsu furiously lands savage blow and unleashes a point blank Fire Dragon Roar, angrily yelling for the King to leave his sister alone.
    • When falling with the others Lisanna quickly transformed with bird wings. Happy witnessing this is in shock and quickly realizes it is indeed their Lisanna. While busy saving their friends, Lisanna promises that she'll explain everything later, to which he happily nods.
  • Ch. 38 Turning The Tide:
    • The chapter as a whole shows how close Happy and Carla have become, the latter Taking the Bullet for him without hesitation. For his part, Happy makes sure to stay by her side for the whole battle, promising to keep her safe, which she sincerely states she finds reassuring.
    • Edolas Eva, Lucy and Mary all try to convince their guildmates to join in on the big battle, clearly having been inspired by their new allies. One of the points they bring up is how said allies are risking their lives on their behalf as they speak, showing how much they've grown to care for them despite not knowing them that long. When this fails, Edolas Lucy gives an epic Rousing Speech that draws on the one Dante gave her, showing just how much of a positive impact the Earthland mages have had on those they've met.
      • Even better, the speech Dante gave drew from the ideals of his father, meaning in a way Sparda is still helping to empower those who would protect the weak.
    • Modeus has taken a heavy beating from Nelo Angelo, and it looks like he's on the cusp of defeat. Just as he's about to give up, he remembers his promise to Wendy and resolves to keep fighting. When the latter is about to finish him, he remembers the day Sparda chose him to be his successor, clearly full of faith and pride for his student.
      Modeus: Master? I...I don't understand.
Sparda: What's there not to understand, Modeus?
Modeus: Why? Why choose me, Master? You choose to pass your strength and will to me? Why not my brother, he is clearly the better swordsman.
Sparda: That may be true. Baul is indeed a skilled warrior, however I am not looking for skill. I am looking for what lies inside the soul, and in your soul, I have found it.
      Modeus: My soul?
Sparda: My friend. For many years, I wasn't too different from the average demon during my service to Mundus. However, upon my arrival to the Human Realm, something inside me changed. I saw something inside them that I had never once experienced even among my own kind, and that same thing has grown inside me, which led me to revolt against my former master. And now, after years of training with you and your brother, I can now see that same thing is present in you.
      Modeus: Master...
Sparda: Modeus, I acknowledge your brother's skill. However, I can see that despite that, he is quite violent. If I passed my strength and will to him, there is a possibility that power will go to his head, and he may become corrupted by it. But you... violence is a burden to you. Despite my age, I know that I will not be around forever; while I do want my teachings to survive, I also want them to live well. Modeus, I pass my strength and will onto you, knowing that you will use it when nothing else can save you; knowing that you will use it not just for yourself but to protect someone you care for, never to attack; knowing you will pass on these teachings as I do to a worthy student.
    • Edolas Fairy Tails Big Damn Heroes moment to aid their Earthland counterparts, having overcome their fears and resolved to help make their own world a better place. The subsequent battle has plenty of these.
      • While shocked at their respective differences, Lady and Mary get along well enough, with the latter inviting her Earthland counterpart to talk over tea, while the former respects Mary's willingness to fight despite being a pacifist.
      • Lucy reuniting with her Edolas counterpart, the two clearly being glad to see one another again, and the former expressing gratitude for all the help.
      • Happy and Carla being overjoyed at seeing all the help, with the former happily saying different dimension or not, Fairy Tail is still Fairy Tail, and the latter calling them 'delightful hooligans'. Makes it clear she considers them just as much a Family of Choice as the others at this point. They are also grateful when Wendy makes sure to cover them and tend to Carla's injury.
      • Edolas Eva helping up Trish, and compliments her name before joining her in fighting the Royal Army. She also expresses concern for Dante, asking about his whereabouts and being worried after hearing he is one of the ones facing off against Nelo Angelo and the Dorma Anim, showing that she is still a version of his mother, despite not knowing of their relation. For their part, everyone assures her that he has backup, and Lady confidently states he can take care of this, showing how much faith she has in her old friend. This convinces her to put her faith in her not-quite son (not that she knows this).
      • Lisanna reunites with her Edolas siblings in her She-cat form. She was about to explain but they confirmed that they know, much to her shock. She felt ashamed for lying, but they reassure her that there's no need, and they should take care of the soldiers first, which she declared that's she spent two years with them and fights as a member of both Fairy Tail guilds.
    • At the end of their fight both Erza and Knightwalker develop mutual respect for each others strength of character as well as their combat prowess. The latter comes to see why Dante called her 'an imitation', outright calling her counterpart her superior and conceding defeat. For her part, Erza Scarlet refutes this, saying her Edolas has just as much drive as her and is her own person, even adding that the fight could be considered a draw, something both are okay with.
  • Ch. 39 Checkmate
    • Modeus disengaging from Nelo Angelo to protect his friends from Faust, fiercely telling the mad king he won't harm another innocent in his presence.
    • When Nelo Angelo to attack on Wendy, Natsu manages to summon up more power in spite of his exhaustion and stop him cold. His subsequent boast that he'll keep fighting regardless of his current state inspires everyone there to keep going.
      • In the subsequent fights against Faust and Nelo Angelo, the groups fighting both display good teamwork and great trust in their partners. Modeus and Wendy go along with suggestions from Natsu and Dante with minimal prompting, trusting their friends have a plan.
    • While the magic leaving Edolas is a Tearjerker, there are some touching moments sprinkled throughout.
      • Rather than despair or outrage, Byro, Sugarboy and Hughes are quite calm about the loss of magic, peacefully accepting the outcome. All three have content smiles on their faces and face the end of their way of life together, simply enjoying one another's company. When they suspect that Dante and the others killed Nelo Angelo, they appear somewhat grateful, showing respect for their adversaries prowess. For all their faults, the three were never fully evil.
      • The normally gruff Lady comforts the crying Mary during the latter's breakdown, even reciprocating the hug the latter gives her and shows great empathy for her Edolas counterpart.
      • Lisanna tells the worried Happy to stay strong for Natsu and comforts the crying Edolas Mira, who feels remorse for bringing her into their war. Lisanna's responds that her only regret was not helping out more, which resulted in her Edolas sister smiling.
      • Edolas Eva comforting Edolas Lucy when the latter begins to despair at the loss of their magic. What's more, her thoughts show she is more worried about her niece and her guildmates than she is herself, mostly unconcerned with the loss of her own magic. The woman really is a Team Mom through and through.
      • Shagotte continues to look after the Exceed children.
    • When discussing his plan to use a scapegoat to mitigate the ensuing panic from the loss of magic in Edolas, Mystogan dismisses Nelo Angelo by saying he is likely already dead at this point. He explains to a shocked Panther-Lily that the group that went to fight him consisted of 'the strongest Earthlanders', showing how highly he regards his guildmates and their abilities.
  • Ch. 40 Goodbye Edolas
    • Panther-Lily offering offering to take Mystogans place as the 'villain' solely to convince his old friend that sacrificing himself isn't necessary, and convince him to find another way.
    • Edolas Lucy rallying the rest of her guild to help out at the Royal capital, prompting Edolas Eva to say 'That's my girl'. Hell, Fairy Tail (both sets) helping out in general, providing aid to the panicking citizens, reuniting children with their parents and clearing rubble to rescue people despite these being the ones who hoarded most of the magic. They really don't hold much of a grudge.
    • Lucky and Marl are saddened to have their home destroyed, primarily because 'the boy' (clearly talking about Happy) now has no home to return to. It's nice to see how welcoming they are of their son, as well as how much they looked forward to seeing him again in their own home.
    • While carrying out his 'Demon King Dragneel' act Natsu takes great care to avoid hitting any civilians, sticking solely to property damage, showing that despite his usual tendencies, he can very considerate when it comes to people.
      • During his 'fight' with Mystogan/Prince Jellal, he makes sure to give him a proper Fairy Tail sendoff. Despite not interacting much while the latter was a member, he sincerely wishes him good luck with the future, something the prince is touched by, smiling at the end of their 'battle'.
      • Gajeel and his Edolas counterpart being able to communicate without words, the latter immediately guessng the plan of the Dragon Slayers and helps it along. For that matter, it takes little prompting from him to get the citizens of Edolas to rally behind their prince, despite him being gone for several years.
    • After spending almost the entire arc not telling Eva that he is her alternate version's son due to how difficult it would be to explain, Dante, with some encouragement from his friends, decides to finally tell her the truth, including how he saw his mother die. When Edolas Eva is left speechless, Dante is uncharacteristically nervous and keeps rambling until she suddenly pulls him into a hug, surprising him. She apologizes for how difficult his life was and tells him that she is incredibly proud of him and that she is sure that his mother is just as proud if she is anything like her. The whole thing prompts Tears of Joy in both of them.
    • Amidst the Reverse-Anima pulling all the Earthland natives, there are plenty of heartfelt goodbyes, leading to many of these moments.
      • Shagotte assuring the Exceed children that everything will be alright, and encourages them to be brave for the coming changes. The woman really shows her motherly side here.
      • When the Reverse-Anima starts to pull the Earthland Fairy Tail members and Exceeds in, Dante, at first, wants Edolas Eva to come with him, but Eva tells him that he has already found a family in Earthland's Fairy Tail just like how she was able to find one in Edolas'. Their talk ends with Dante telling Edolas Eva that he loves her, even though he knows how weird that sounds, and shedding Tears of Joy when Edolas Eva telling him that she loves him too and that yes, it does sound weird. What's more, on his way up, Natsu, Wendy and even Gajeel say they're happy for him, with the latter stating that no-one thinks any less of him for crying.
      • As Erza leaves, she and her counterpart bid each other a fond farewell, addressing each other by 'Erza' and showing the mutual respect they have for one another. It's clear that neither consider themselves or the other the 'true' Erza.
      • Mystogan/Prince Jellal gets two from the departing mages, one from Wendy officially thanking him for helping her all those years ago, calling him her first friend. Likewise, Panther-Lily wishes his old friend luck going forward, leaving with some advice on how to rule, which the touched prince promises to take to heart.
      • Instead of the canon version where Lisanna wants to stay in Edolas out of remorse, here she accepts her return to Earthland all while waving goodbye with tears in her eyes to her Edolas siblings as well Edolas Fairy Tail thanking them and saying she'll never forget them. Her siblings respond that they will miss her too and she has her own brother and sister there, clearly grateful to have had more time with their sister, even if it wasn't their Lisanna.
      • As a nice Call-Back to Dante's speech Edolas Lucy brings up how they 'stared down the Gates of Hell', which the depating Devil Hunter gives them prop for. While leaving, Dante admits that Edolas wasn't as bad as he initially thought, saying it's got plenty of good people, showing that despite their differences, Edolas Fairy Tail left just as good an impression on him as the Earthland version.
  • Ch. 41 Welcome Home
    • The Exceeds seem to have learned their lesson and become much kinder, checking to see if the population of Magnolia is safe on behalf of Fairy Tail and apologize for their previous behavior towards Wendy, Carla, and Trish. As they depart, all of them are excited to form positive relations with humanity, a far cry from their haughty attitude before. It's nice to see them having truly changed for the better.
    • Shagotte reveals that there was no 'mission' for the Exceeds sent to Earthland, and the whole thing was just a ruse to make sure that some would survive the fall of Extalia her magic predicted. While it was done with the best of intentions, she is clearly remorseful over all the pain that it caused, apologising to everyone present and saying that Trish calling her 'a devil' was accurate. This prompts Dante of all people to reassure her despite her mistakes, they were all done to keep her people safe, and that screwing up doesn't make her evil, just flawed. Pretty much every member of Fairy Tail and the Exceeds present all agree.
Dante: Queeny, you're no Devil. The whole god-facade-thing you did was definitely messed up, but... given how some humans sometimes act, picking on those smaller than them, it makes a little sense; and you did what you thought you had to, both then and sending all those eggs here to Earthland. I don't really agree with it, but I do understand. You're definitely not a god, but you're not a devil either. But,... you may be more like a human than you might think, and that's a compliment.
    • Shagotte giving Carla a hug before leaving, overjoyed that the young Exceed forgave her. For her part, the comments that the embrace feels warm, unaware she has been reunited with her mother after all this time. While she holds off on telling her daughter of their relation, the former queen is clearly exuberant that she'll have a chance to be a part of her daughters life again, resolving to do so after finding all the Exceeds sent to Earthland.
    • Likewise, Happy's parents hold off on telling him as well, but they make sure to let him know that he's always welcome to visit them, which the young Exceed looks forward to.
      • In the same scene Lisanna tells Natsu that she thinks that Marl and Lucky are Happy's parents which Natsu confirms, since they smell the same. This makes Lisanna say she is happy for Happy and suggests they tell him, though Natsu thinks it's better for him to figure it out and he still has a home in Fairy Tail in the meantime. Lisanna agrees with a smile on her face.
    • Panther-Lily remained behind when his brethren left, wanting to join the guild that looked after his prince for so many years, formally accepting Lady and Gajeels offer to join. And while Gajeels reaction is Played for Laughs, both are clearly happy that their Worthy Opponent took them up on it, glad to have him on-board.
    • Lisanna's first response to seeing Magnolia (her home) definitely counts.
Lisanna: [Tears of Joy in her eyes] After two years...I'd never thought I'd see it again.
      • While telling her friends how she never died and went to Edolas she is a bit ashamed by not telling the truth though Natsu just tells her that's all in the past. What's more important is that she is home again with the white-haired girl looking at her friends in surprise, who are glad to have her back again. Looking back at Natsu with his smile gave her tears because it is the same smile the boy she grew up with and the one she missed the most. She quickly hugs him for it as well telling him she never thought she will see him again that she is happy with Natsu.
      • The one thing that tops the above? Her reunion with Elfman and Mirajane, with all three crying Tears of Joy.
    • As he's watching the above happen, Dante muses that he wishes he could have a family reunion like that, even though he knows it's impossible. It quickly segues back into Heartwarming when he remarks that he's perfectly happy with Fairy Tail, who he outright calls his new family.
    Devil Hand
  • Ch. 42 Dawn of Darkness
    • Despite the loss of their magic, the people of Edolas appear optimistic about the future, with Edolas Gajeel remarking that things are starting to look up. In a similar vein, Edolas Fairy Tail move their guildhall right outside the Riyal capital to offer their services to the people their. It's clear that they're happy to be helping people again.
    • King Jellal delivers the Magic Force Captains punishment for being complicit in Faust's plans: they are to remain within the city and help rebuild, to their shock. They all expected to be executed, and request that that still be carried out, but the King is having none of that. While he states killing would be the easy way out for them, it's also clear that he's giving them all a chance to make amends, even stating they all have many useful skills and attributes outside of magic. It doesn't take much convincing for them to agree, and they all pledge their loyalty to their new King.
      • The above happens after they put Faust to rest, paying their last respects as his body is cremated. Goes to show that despite their differences, he still cared for his father.
      • The only one to escape punishment is Coco, who King Jellal assures has already made up for her part in helping the Earthland mages.
      • Before they get started, the others ask King Jellal just who Dante was. The smiling King begins to tell the tale of the Dark Knight Sparda, clearly full of respect. It seems the Dark Knights legacy will be left to inspire another world in addition to his own.
    • Lisanna's return to the guildhall, full stop. After the initial shock, everyone rushes to embrace her, only being stopped by Elfman. Makarov is openly crying Tears of Joy as he welcomes her, giving a speech about how he considers all the members of the guild to be his children, prompting Lisanna to give him a hug for the first time in years. The entire guild then throws a celecration for her return, complete with a 'Welcom Back Lisanna' banner.
      Everyone: WELCOME BACK, LISANNA!
    • While it's Played for Laughs, part of the reason Gajeel is so eager to have Lily fight Happy and Carla is his pride on his new companions combat prowess, clearly wanting him to show off. Lady seconds his opinion, showing that Gajeel was not the only one to form a rapport with the powerful Exceed.
      • Happy expresses doubt his chances in a fight, only for Carla to tell him he can't be sure if her hasn't tried, swooning as she does so, as well as showing how much her faith in him has grown. Her praise actually makes a blushing Happy briefly reconsider, likewise showing how much her opinion means to him.
      • Lily himself defuses the situation, not wanting to injure his new companions, which Happy accepts. Hell, Lily in general appears eager to fit into the guild, being glad to have a familiar face in Erza, and extending an olive branch to his fellow Exceeds.
    • Dante sincerely apologises to Carla for being so hostile towards her since the Edolas arc began. For her part, she admits he had reason to be suspicious, and even jokes it's karma for her accusations about his past. The two share a fist-to-paw bump, finally being on good terms, to the joy of the watching Wendy and Lucy.
    • When Makarov expresses worry over how Mystogan is doing in Edolas, Gildarts reminds him that he was a member of Fairy Tail, he should be just fine. He even adds that the guy will always be one of them.
      • The above becomes more poignant with the revelation that Makarov is Faust's Earthland counterpart. In a similar vein to Dante and Edolas Eva, it's nice to know Mystogan got to enjoy a positive relationship with some version of his father, even if it wasn't his own.
    • While most of the Magic Council are disdainful of Sparda, and his habit of calling their actions into question, Org reminds them that he's the reason they have a world to live in. It's nice to see at least one member of the Council acknowledge all the good Sparda did.
    • Dante wakes up the morning after the party and see's a sleeping Elfman holding a sleeping Mira and Lisanna in his arms. He then goes to visit the graveyard, passing by one marked 'Baul. A Warrior of the Sword. Beloved Brother', one for Lucy's mother, and then his own mothers. The narration reveals that Lucy's father had her mothers grave moved to Magnolia so Lucy could visit whenever she wished, with Makarov doing the same for Eva's grave in Dante's behalf.
      • Dante pays his respects at Layla's grave, thanking her for raising such an awesome daughter. He wonders if they are actually cousins, while thinking about his own family, resolving to look into it in the future. For the first time in a long time, the man is hopeful about a family reunion, even wondering what Vergil is up to.
  • Ch. 43 Movement in the Shadows
    • Pretty much all the interactions between Natsu and Lisanna, with it being abundantly clear how much the two care about one another. The fact that after spending two years thinking the girl he was closest to was dead, Natsu can finally talk with her again, and is just so damn happy throughout the whole thing. For her part, Lisanna is just as happy, and seems to appreciate most of Natsu's quirks, finding them rather endearing.
      • Lisanna asking Natsu to join her on a job, clearly wanting to catch up, and doing so with a blush. Natsu eagerly agrees with a grin. This could arguably count as a first date for the two.
      • Lisanna asks Natsu about the changes to Fairy Tail, and he eagerly begins to describe what happened in the two years she missed, happy to be able to share all those experiences with her.
      • After hearing that the other Dragon Slayers respective mentor/parent went missing as well, Lisanna assures Natsu that he'll definitely find Igneel someday.
      • After some light teasing from her, Natsu says he missed Lisanna, showing a surprisingly tender side of himself. She admits that she missed him too, and when expressing remorse for not trying harder to find a way back, he makes it abundantly clear that they're all just happy she's alive. She returns the favor when he apologizes for not being able to help, with the whole exchange being incredibly touching.
Natsu: It's okay Lisanna, it's okay. You're here now, you're home. That's all that matters. No one blames you; not Mira not Elfman, not Happy, and certainly not me. Because it's your smile that's kept me going. (Lisanna surprised) No matter what happend you always smiled. And I promised myself that I'd keep going for your sake. (voice cracking) I should be saying sorry... because.... I promised you if you got lost I'd find you.. but I...I couldn't keep that promise! I...
Lisanna: But you did Natsu. You did find me, and you brought me home.
      • The two share a romantic moment under the moonlight, leaning into one another and are about to kiss, but are sadly interrupted by Cragnars attack. When the demon declares he's there for Lisanna, a protective Natsu says he'll have to get past him first.
    • Many of the members seeing off Natsu and Lisanna, clearly worried for the latter's first job in a while. Both her siblings ask her to be careful, and Makarov makes it clear that he's aware she can take care of herself, but wants to look out for his children, which she appreciates. She reassures them all that she'll be careful and Natsu promises to protect her as well.
    • Happy, Carla and Lily go to visit the Exceeds at their new home, who have apparently settled in nicely on Earthland.
    • Morrison proves himself solid friend and ally to Dante, with the latter having told him about his father some time ago, clearly trusting the man and is happy to see him when he enters the guildhall. The fact that Morrison provided him with much of his work before joining Fairy Tail and made sure to track Dante down after he left his old office makes it clear that the friendship is reciprocated. He even extends this to Dante's new allies, warning them about Devil Hand and the Magic Councils eagerness to disband Fairy Tail without any mention of compensation as is typical in his profession.
    • After being caught up on events Lisanna says she's glad that Natsu has other Dragon Slayers to talk to. Natsu admits that he's glad that both of them are part of the guild and that he's not the only one that lost a parent like that. This makes it clear that despite not typically getting along with the guy, he is glad to have Gajeel as a member of the guild.
    • When he asks of she's heard about the legend of Sparda, Lisanna mentions that the Strauss siblings parents used to tell them the story. It's nice to hear that Sparda was respected enough that parents would tell his heroics as part of stories to inspire their children.
    • After telling Lisanna that Dante is Sparda's son, Natsu reveals that Sparda knew Igneel, and the two were apparently good friends. When she asks if he and Dante are also good friends, he agrees, bringing up the mans promise to help him find Igneel (which he's still gratefull for) and outright calls him part of his family. He even describes the guy as 'awesome on every level', showing just how highly he regards his friend.
  • Ch. 44 Devil Hand
    • During the initial fight with Cragnar, Natsu makes sure to protect Lisanna whenever he can, quickly intercepting Cragnar each time he attacks her. For her part, Lisanna is touched and admits this protectiveness is part of why she likes him so much.
      • Small, but the two show excellent teamwork throughout the fight, backing each other up and keeping the pressure on Cragnar without missing a beat. Even after two years apart, they both know each other very well.
    • When Lucy expresses concern for Natsu and Lisanna, it's Lady who reassures her that they will be alright. She specifically notes that Natsu's faced plenty of dangerous foes before and always came out on top, showing that while she thinks he's an idiot, she still holds her new friend in high regard.
    • Despite Lady having a minor Freak Out at seeing Arkham, she quickly calms down after Dante steadies her hand and sincerely asking if she's alright, clearly concerned for his friend. What's more, he can immediately tell who it was she saw, showing how well he knows her. The fact that he is aware of what Arkham did to his wife/Lady's mother also indicates that Lady trusted him enough to tell him about their past, showing that despite all their ribbing, the two were always just as close as many of the members of Fairy Tail.
    • Although Cragnar taunts Lisanna that Natsu is dead, she quickly reminds herself that Natsu is a Dragon Slayer, one of Fairy Tail's strongest members. Though she may not been for them, she heard his exploits, taking on demons and dark wizards, including Gajeel, Laxus, and even master Zero of Oracion Seis. She concludes he'll never be defeated by a demon like Cragnar, showing just how highly she regards her Childhood Friend.
    • This faith is vindicated, when Natsu shows up just in time, having seared his wounds shut to make sure he could help Lisanna. His subsequent rage, and the power derived makes it clear how much she means to him as well, and woe betide anyone who thinks to harm her in his presence, made very clear by his first words to Cragnar.
Natsu: Get the hell away from her. I wont let you hurt her.
    • Natsu's flashback to his time with Igneel, with the dragon teaching him about Dragon Slayer Secret Art: Blood Soul Fire in case he ever needed to save a friend, though he makes him promise to only use it as a last resort. Igneel also makes sure to say that he will always be proud of Natsu, with the whole thing emphasising just how great a dad he was to the kid.
    • When it looks like she might die, Lisanna makes sure to tell him she was glad to see him again, giving a Dying Declaration of Love. Also counts as a Tearjerker.
    • Thankfully, Natsu manages to save her with Dragon Slayer Secret Art: Blood Soul Fire, the spell that Igneel specifically told him to save as a last resort. Despite the risks to himself, he successfully save her life, and thankfully survives himself, averting a "Shaggy Dog" Story. The two both shed Tears of Joy upon realizing they're both alright, and fall asleep next to one another after Lisanna gives him a kiss on the forehead.
  • Ch. 45 Dragon Soul
    • Upon waking up, Natsu's first thought is to check for Lisanna, still concerned for her safety. His internal narration makes it clear that he won't let anyone harm her while he's around. Meanwhile, she gathered plenty of fruit for him while he was asleep and gives him a kiss on the cheek as thanks for the healing magic.
    • While most of the Seven Sins are clearly villains who can barely stand each other, the children (Leviatha and Beelzebub) seem to get along well enough, sticking up for one another against some of the nastier members.
    • After the Magic Council request Dante to help guard a prisoner they are transporting, the others decide to join him without a moments hesitation. It's clear that he appreciates this.
      • While Modeus and Carla are initially reluctant to let Wendy go as well, Dante accepts her request and assures the two he won't let anything happen to her. They relent and decide to accompany him as well.
      • Makarov, Elfman and Erza are all reluctant to let Lisanna go as well, on account of Devil Hand still being after her. However, despite his worries, Makarov still expresses faith in her, giving her his blessing to go and giving a reassuring look to Elfman when he goes to protest. The man really does look out for his children.
    • When it looks like she is completely outclassed, and after Mira gave her a dressing down on not being ready for a mission, Lisanna gives herself a Dare to Be Badass speech. But rather than focus on strength alone, she focuses on the power needed to protect those she loves, showing just how much of a Nice Girl she is to her very core.
Lisanna(thoughts): NO! I refure to be helpless! Natsu, Ezra, Grey, Happy,...even Wendy's getting stronger. If they can get stronger, why can't I!? (ring of fire forms around her) I will protect my friends...! I will protect those I love! Even you Natsu. I WON'T BE HELPESS ANYMORE!
    • While Mira fighting Lisanna is rough on both of them, she's ultimately just making sure her little sister can take care of herself. After Lisanna uses her Take Over: Dragon Soul and manages to match, and even bruise her S-Class sister, Mira stops the fight, happily admitting she was wrong. Her tone makes it clear how proud she is of her sister.
    • Throughout Lisanna's fight with Mira, Natsu never doubts her ability to win, despite knowing just what the She-Devil is capable of, and showing complete faith in his Childhood Friend. In the aftermath, he catches her right before her Post-Victory Collapse (bridal-style no less!), and says "I knew you could do it". In that moment, Lisanna feels like a princess from a fairy tale... too bad Natsu had to ruin it.
  • Ch. 46 Fallen Angel
    • After giving Lisanna a check-up Porlyusica sends her off, reminding her of her usual view on people. As Lisanna leaves however, Porlyusica gives the below line, showing just how well-regarded Lisanna's kind nature is, even to the typically grouchy woman who believes Humans Are Bastards.
Porlyusica: For what its worth though, I am glad to see you made it home. I may not like humans all that much, but you're one of the few that's at least tolerable.
    • Despite expecting the two to be furious with him for failing to protect their sister, Mirajane and Elfman both tearfully thank Natsu for saving Lisanna's life, hugging him with Tears of Joy. Also overlaps with funny since Elfman crushes the other two with his hug.
Natsu: What? Did... you... Why? Why are you thanking me?
Mirajane: Because you saved my little sisters life. For two whole years I thought she was gone, and now she's come back. If anything happened to her... But you saved her. I can't thank you enough!
Elfman: She's right Natsu! You saved Lisanna! You really are a real man!
    • During the train ride, Lisanna gets a chance to catch up with the rest of her friends, as well as bond with some of the newer members of Fairy Tail present, like Wendy and Modeus. Everyone is clearly having fun telling stories about everything that's happened since she was sent to Edolas, with Wendy even sharing details of her past in Cait Shelter.
    • After Lucy storms off, everyone is concerned for her, with Trish going to check up on her. After tricking her into admitting she's jealous of Natsu and Lisanna, Trish patiently listens to her guildmates problems and offers sincere advice on how to deal with her feelings, suggesting she tell the others rather than bottle it up. Woman can be surprisingly considerate to her friends feelings.
      • From the same scene, while she is jealous of how close Natsu and Lisanna are, Lucy already accepts that the two being a couple is a matter of when, not if, and clearly wants to be happy for them. She only agrees to confess her feelings to get them off her chest, and clearly hopes the two will be happy together.
    • After Lahar identifies him as a Devil Hunter and Son of Sparda, Dante adds that he is also a member of Fairy Tail, proudly displaying his guild mark. The fact that he put that title alongside his more well known ones shows how highly Dante regards being a member of Fairy Tail.
  • Ch 47 Demonic Descent
    • Small, but Lisanna admits she finds Natsu's enthusiasm in looking out for Devil Hand endearing rather than annoying. Shows how much of a good fit the two are for one another.
    • Despite being demons, Ranglor and Raviary sincerely care about one another, and their brother Cragnar, wanting to avenge his death at Natsu's hands.
    • During the mission to escort Angel to a new prison, Lucy, having gotten over her previous jealousy, takes the time to talk with Lisanna and open up with her about her troubled past with her family.
    • When the convoy stops for the night to rest, Erza chooses to talk with Angel, revealing her own past as a slave in the Tower of Heaven, and hearing that Angel’s reasons for being part of the Oracion Seis was so she could be free again, only to be imprisoned once again. Erza feels sympathy for her former enemy, seeing that one of her deadly enemies was always a broken girl.
    • Lisanna gets to talk with Dante during the mission, with both of them talking about their lost parents, and how Fairy Tail became a second family for both of them. Dante notes that the same is said for many of the other guild members.
Dante: It’s the same sort of story. Pretty much everyone I know in Fairy Tail has the same kind of story. They lose someone, someone they love. A parent, a family member, they hit rock bottom, and they find that guild and they got a family. It’s what I like about that place. You think you lost everything, they show you how wrong you are.
    • When Lucy asks Natsu if he likes Lisanna more than a friend, he says that while never giving it much thought before, he answers that he does. While not fully saying she has feelings for him, Lucy calls him one of the best people she ever met in his life, recounting the good he’s done since meeting him, and saying he deserves the best.
Lucy: Well of course. You do deserve someone like that in your life. Sure you're impulsive, highly destructive, a total meathead, a major glutton for both food and punishment, and you might be slighty insane. But at the same time; you're also very caring, you always stand up stand up for the little guy and help many people as you can. You would do anything for all your friends. You stopped Grey from using that Iced Shell spell that would have killed him on Galaluna Island, you carried Erza from the Tower of Heaven all the way to the shore, you picked a fight with Vergil just for Dante's sake, and you saved my life more times than I can count. You're far from perfect Natsu, but you're a good person, one of the best people Í've ever know in my life. And if you've found someone who can make you happy then... I'm really excited for you. You deserve nothing but the best. (thoughts) Even if it's not me.
      • Natsu is unsure how to respond, but is obviously touched by the sincere praise. Lucy gives him a hug, mentally promising to be there for him however she can as a friend.
    • After Dante kills Fanglor and Raviary, Angel asks why he would save her, since she’s his enemy. Dante replies that it was because she needed help.
Dante: Yeah, you might have done some bad shit in your life but look at you right now. You got no magic keys, no weapons, nothing. You’re helpless right now and you know it. And I’m not gonna abandon anyone who’s helpless, even if they were bad; and I’m especially not gonna abandon them when demons wanna get them.
    • Despite being a member of Devil Hand, the members of Fairy Tail are clearly reluctant to fight Leviatha, with Modeus simply advising her to retreat rather than injure her. The latter came after he managed to save Wendy, clearly looking out for his student.
    • Lahar thanks the members of Fairy Tail for their help in the mission (despite their animosity with the Magic Council), and allows Angel to say her goodbyes despite having no reason to do so. Even Natsu admits the mans not as bad as they first thought.
    • Before being taken into her new prison, Angel genuinely thanks the Fairy Tail members, especially Dante, for saving and protecting her from the demons.
  • Ch 48 The Calm Before the Storm
    • After encountering Sheeree/Leviatha in the previous chapter, Wendy is left wondering if it's her fault that her old friend is now her enemy. Both Modeus and Carla assure her that it's not, noting her kind and loving personality.
Modeus: Wendy listen to me very carefully. This not your fault. You didn't know. I don't know the circumstances with Sheeree, but you are not responsible for her actions despite what she might have say. You are a good and kind person with a big heart of nothing but love, and don't you ever doubt that.
      Wendy (shaky eyes): Modeus.
Carla: He's right. Wendy you may be naive, but above else you have above all else, you have a kind soul and are willing to do anything for those you care about. And I am proud to be your friend.
    • During a talk with Dante, Lady says that she's worried what the guild will think of her if she tells them about Arkham. Dante tells her that they won't think differently, pointing out how Gajeel used to be an enemy himself. When she says she needs to clear her head, Dante offers to keep her company, which she clearly appreciates.
    • Upon seeing the children in the Seven Deadly Sins, Ultear fondly recalls Meredy, making it clear her fondness for the girl is genuine.
    • Right after learning Arkham is Lady's father, and noticing how much Lady despises even the sight of him, Mirajane quickly stands in front of Lady and gives the below Declaration of Protection. The female Devil Hunter is surprised and touched by this.
Mirajane: I don't know what is going on, or what you intend to do, but if you try to lay so much as a finger on Lady, you'll have to go to through me. And I promise, it will not be a pleasent experience for you.
    • Lucy inviting Natsu and Lisanna on a job together, making sure to apologise to both for the cold shoulder previously. Lisanna states there are no hard feelings before remarking that Edolas Lucy's rough attitude, she was good friends with the girl, and hopes to become friends with Earthland Lucy as well. Likewise, she mentions she finds it fun befriending the Earthland counterparts of people she met in Edolas, such as Gajeel, Wendy, and Lady, showing just how much of a kind soul she is.
  • Ch 49 Rise! Temen-ni-gru
    • Despite knowing he can't beat him, Natsu is willing to fight Vergil again as long as it ensures Lisanna's safety.
    • Likewise, the others return to back him up, unwilling to let him face Vergil alone. Lucy even remarks that he should know them better than that.
    • Despite being an enemy, Mirajane is unable to bring herself to seriously hurt Leviathia, even questioning why a child is a member of a dark guild. It ends up costing her, but the sentiment is nice.
    • Elfmans Big Brother Instinct is in full force, being ready to fight Vergil to save his sisters, despite knowing just how dangerous the man is. For their part, the rest of Fairy Tail are sympathetic, only telling him not to run off on his own so they can all look out for him and his siblings.
    • During the groups first encounter with Jester, Natsu's protective instincts are on full display, growing hostile after the man scares Happy, and physically pushing him away when he gets too close to Lisanna.
    • After Temen-ni-gru rises, Natsu wastes no time making his way there on the basis that the rest of Fairy Tail (especially Dante) would be smart enough to figure out that Devil Hand is behind it, showing both remarkable insight and faith in his comrades. This is proven true when the rest of Fairy Tail acts as he predicted, while also intuiting that Natsu will be smart enough to meet them on the way, showing that despite their teasing, the others do in fact respect Natsu and consider him intelligent.
    • Wendy wishes to accompany the others to Temen-ni-gru, clearly wanting another chance to reach out the Leviathia/Sheeree despite her former friends hostility. For their part, Modeus and Carla agree, silently promising to make sure at least one of them can watch out for her.
  • Ch 50 Sinner’s Advent
    • Dante tells the other members of Fairy Tail about Lady’s past with Arkham. Everybody is horrified by what Arkham did, and feels sympathy for Lady.
    • In the midst of Natsu declaring that Fairy Tail will rescue Lady and Mirajane from Devil Hand's clutches, he also makes it clear that they'll rescue Angel as well, despite their previous status as enemies. Everyone present agrees, showing how empathetic they all are.
    • In a way, Beelzebub taking Mirajane to his section of the tower, in part to spare her from becoming part of Asmodeua's 'collection'.
    • The members of Fairy Tail all looking out for one another when Arkhams trap starts to separate them, those able to find purchase grabbing onto their comrades and ensuring no one is left alone (with the exception of Trish and Modeus).
    • Happy sticks with Dante after the group is separated, and the Son of Sparda shows off his protective instincts when Jester shows up, letting the Exceed hide behind him and starting to shoot when it's clear he scares Happy.
    • As Dante prepares for his rematch with Vergil, Happy is concerned given what happened the last time they fought him. Dante assures the blue cat that he’s strong than before and to have faith in him, just like how he has faith in the others.
  • Ch 51 Brotherly Rivals Evermore
    • After Natsu, Gajeel, Lily, and Eflman are told where they can find Mira, Elfman insists on going to save his sister by himself, wishing to make up for nearly killing Lisanna. Natsu lets him go, understanding where Elfman is coming from.
    • During Dante and Vergil’s duel, the latter insults Happy after the Exceed saves Dante from falling off the roof. Dante is quick to defend Happy, calling him a dependable friend. And despite concern about Vergil's reaction, is proud of the Exceed for having the guts to talk back to his brother.
      • Despite his fear of the man, Happy confronts Vergil in an attempt to retrieve Dante's amulet, angrily yelling that it belongs to the younger Son of Sparda. Vergil easily intimidates him, but the sentiment was nice.
    • Arkham expresses disappointment that Lady has not embraced the darkness, he attributes it to both being her mothers daughter, and Fairy Tails influence, showing just how much having a solid network of friends has improved her outlook. Especially compared to canon, where she was willing to shoot Dante on sight.
    • While in a rush to rescue his sister, Elfman quickly grows concerned upon seeing Beelzebub, first advising the young boy to try and flee the tower, and then growing outraged upon hearing Devil Hand recruited a child into their ranks. Even when Beelzebub threatens him, he repeatedly states he has no desire to fight him, even offering to help him with whatever issues led him to join Devil Hand.
  • Ch 52 Sins Born of Desire
    • Lisanna's Rousing Speech to Lucy, giving the girl the courage to face the coming dangers by reminding her that their friends are counting on them. Goes to show how much both of them care about their Family of Choice.
Lisanna: I'm not going to lie to you Lucy, I'm plenty scared myself. But, not it's just for me; it's for all our friends who are scattered throughout this horrible place.... And it's also Mira. She's trapped here, all alone. I know she's more than capable of handling herself, but she's my sister, and I can't image what she's going through right now.
    • Juvia and Gray are both seething at the thought of Arkham, wanting to make him pay for what he did to Lady. Goes to show she's long been accepted as part of their family.
    • While Lucy acknowledges Angel’s crimes, she makes it clear that she won’t allow anyone to be a part of Asmodeua’s “collection”, even if they’re a former enemy. Angel herself is surprised by Lucy's statement.
    • A small one has Lucy enraged at Asmodeua paralyzing Lisanna with her Venom Kiss, essentially robbing the Take-Over user of her possible first kiss, which Lucy thought would have come from Natsu. Similarly, while she's plenty disgusted at the Sin of Lusts general attitude and her comments towards her and Lisanna, what really sets her off is the psycho's suggestion that she add Lucy's female Spirits to her 'collection'. Girl really does get more worked up on her friends behalf than her own.
    • At one point in his fight with Mammon, Gray uses his Ice-Make Magic to create replicas of Rebellion and Cerberus. Mammon is surprised to see ice versions of Dante’s weapons, with Gray admitting with pride that Dante rubbed off on him.
    • As Mammon gives Gray a Breaking Speech about how Gray desires power for revenge for his family’s deaths, Juvia breaks out of the statue Mammon trapped her in earlier and declares that everything Gray does is for the sake of others, even calling him the most selfless person she ever met before sending Mammon flying. After the duo beat Mammon, Juvia tells Gray that his selflessness had always been an inspiration for her to be selfless as well.
    • Loke showing up to protect Lucy and Lisanna from Asmodeua, who was breaking down Lucy with her own Breaking Speech, saying how Lucy has lust for the Celestial Spirit keys and doesn’t care about the spirits themselves. Loke makes it clear to the psycho witch that Lucy treats all of her Spirits like they’re her family, offering to make contracts with them, and the Spirits choosing to accept them. Lucy herself is grateful to Loke’s defense with Tears of Joy. Lisanna herself is surprised at seeing Loke so fierce, seeing that Lucy left an effect on him.
      • Small, but Loke is happy to see Lisanna again, and wishes it was under better circumstances. The feeling is mutual, the two having been good friends before she was dragged into Edolas.
    • Once she’s freed, a weakened Angel notices that Lucy wants to help Loke and Lisanna fight Asmodeua. Deciding to help Lucy herself, Angel gives her all of her Celestial Magic, allowing Lucy to perform Urano Metoria. When she does this, Angel says that she wants to do something right for a change after a life of wrong actions. She even says it's what Dante would have wanted, showing how much of an impact the Son of Sparda left on her despite only knowing him for a short time.
    • After Asmodeua is killed, Lucy admits that she did want nothing more than to collect all the Celestial Spirit Keys in her youth, but after truly seeing them all, she admits that she now wants them all to be happy. Loke’s response?
Loke: We are happy, because we’re with you.
    • While Loke is still bitter with Angel for mistreating Aries and killing Karen, he is grateful for her help, and tells Lucy and Lisanna to thank her for him.
  • Ch 53 Advent of the Fairies
    • Warren makes contact with Dante and Happy with the news that he’s arrived at Temen-ni-gru with the other members of the guild, ready to help them tear it down. Dante is touched by their arrival, and expresses faith in their abilities when Arkham sends several lower-tier demons to fight them.
    • Natsu’s concern for Gajeel after the latter takes a beating from Satan in order to win their fight with him is touching. Even though they’re usually at each other’s throats, they’re still Fairy Tail mages looking out for each other.
      • Smaller moment, but earlier in the fight one of the things that gets Gajeel really steamed at the Sin of Wrath is him managing to hurt Panther-Lily.
    • Erza and Carla looking out for Wendy as they travel Temen-ni-gru, giving her advice on how to handle Sheeree, and becoming protective when Jester shows up and his antics start make her uncomfortable.
  • Modeus' reluctance to use his Devil Trigger arises mainly from a fear that his inexperience with it may lead to him unintentionally harming Trish, and it being implied that he doesn't wish to seriously injure Belphegor either. Goes to show how cautious and considerate of others he is.
    • After Vergil defeats Modeus and Trish, acquiring the Devil Sword Sparda in the process, he chooses to let them live, telling a still-conscious Modeus to master his power if he survives, seeing the potential in him, and noting that Sparda did as well. As Vergil leaves, Modeus says it’s likely why Vergil spared Dante and Natsu as well, seeing them as worthy opponents and wishing for them to become stronger as well so he can face them again. He even says that Vergil likely spared Trish because of her resemblance to Eva, Vergil’s mother.
Modeus: You can hide it all you wish… but I can see through you… you aren’t as cold and heartless as you believe…
  • Ch 54 Sins Born of Sorrow: While there are plenty of Tearjerkers in the chapter, it also serves as a brilliant showcase of how empathetic the members of Fairy Tail are.
    • During his fight with Beelzebub, Elfman attempts to talk him out of being with Devil Hand, not wishing to fight a child.
      • When it looks like he's about to kill Elfman, Beelzebub promises to at least make it quick and painless, and assures him he won't go after his sister. Even with everything that happened to him, the poor kid still tries to minimise any pain he can for others.
    • Though Wendy still wants to try and talk to Sheeree/Leviatha, she also will fight her in order to protect Erza and Lady, and the rest of her Fairy Tail guildmates.
    • Even though it ended horribly, Adrian was willing to make himself bait for the Wendigo to chase if it meant ensuring the safety of his parents and sister. Quite the show of bravery from the young boy.
    • After hearing Adrian’s backstory, both Mira and Elfman comfort him, understanding the pain he’s gone through.
Mirajane: You’re not a monster. You’re just a poor tortured soul looking to find peace.
    • Though Adrian’s death is a major Tearjerker, he reunites with his family in death, seeing an image of all of them embracing him as he fades away. He is also sent off with warm praise from both Strauss siblings, Elfman even ruffling his head as he does so.
Elfman: That was the manliest thing I'd ever seen. You were never monster you're a real man!
Mirajane: He's right. And I know that your family is waiting for you... Your mother, your father, and your sister... And I know that they still love you, just as any family would.
    • The fact that Robaoul was willing to look after a baby he found in the woods, and after failing to find her parents decided to more or less adopt her, even giving her her original name. Goes to show how empathetic the ghost really was.
    • Although Sheeree was becoming more and more jealous of Wendy as they grew older, it's clear that she genuinely considered her a friend and asked to join her on the Oracion Seis Mission as support, being happy at the promise of playing together afterwards. While she ran off from Cait Shelter when it was attacked by the Oracion Seis and Nirvana, she decided to go back after Nirvana collapsed just to see if Wendy was okay.
    • At the end of Sheeree’s tirade against Wendy, she’s caught off-guard when Wendy, along with Carla, Erza, and Lady comfort her with a Cooldown Hug. This action, along with Wendy apologizing for leaving her and saying she was like a sister to her lead to Sheeree finally letting go of her jealousy and hatred for Wendy, and quietly surrendering to Fairy Tail.
    • A small one comes when Vergil learns of Adrian's death, expressing disappointment in how he died, as he fully intended to keep his word and given the boy a Mercy Kill once they succeeded with their plan.
  • Ch 55 Pride Before Judgment
    • As the Fairy Tail members outside the guild fight the demon hordes, Alzack tells Bisca she needs to watch her back after he shoots a demon coming from behind her. She says she doesn't need to, after all, she has him for that.
    • During Dante’s fight with Iblis, the leader of the Seven Sins insults Happy, similar to when Dante fought Vergil several chapters before. Like before, Dante defends Happy and the need for teamwork.
      • Similarly, when Iblis uses her Black Hole, Happy requires minimal convincing to agree to Dante's plan to fly towards it, the Son of Sparda only needing to ask if the Exceed trusts him. Goes to show how close the two really are.
      • Later on, after Dante reaches Vergil, he sets down an exhausted Happy at the edge of the room to give him time to rest.
    • Throughout his fight with Iblis, Dante actually offers her to leave Devil Hand several times, seeing potential in her skills. While Iblis ends up killing herself as a result of using her ultimate technique in an attempt to kill Dante and Happy, it is nice to see Dante try and talk an enemy out of fighting.
    • Despite her worries, Juvia agrees to look for the others while Gray goes after Vergil, especially once he points out some of the others will likely be there to help him as well. In a way, also shows how much faith she has in their guildmates as well that she'd trust them with her beloved Gray's safety.
Juvia: Dante... If you really are there, please, look after my beloved Gray. And see to it he comes back to me.
    • Following Sheeree’s Heel–Face Turn, Carla apologizes for treating her poorly back at Cait Shelter and asks for a second chance to be her friend, with Sheeree accepting, surprised at seeing the previously obnoxious and rude Exceed acting humble and friendly with her. When Sheeree then asks Erza to punish her for her actions in Devil Hand, Erza simply gives her a compassionate smile, saying that Sheeree suffered enough after enduring so much. This, plus their determination to face and defeat Vergil gives the girl the first feeling of warmth from a proper guild in a while.
  • Ch 56 Let’s Welcome Chaos
    • The members of Lamia Scale and Blue Pegasus arrive outside Temen-ni-gru to give their aid to Fairy Tail, with Ren saying that their guilds are still allies.
    • Lyon is worried when he hears Gray is inside Temen-ni-gru, to which Freed assures him he has plenty of dependable allies. Likewise Ichiya has zero doubt that Erza can handle anything inside the tower, showing that his 'affection' for her isn't appreciated, he holds her abilities in high regard.
    • Wendy promising Sheeree that she can have a place in Fairy Tail herself once they take care of Temen-ni-gru, giving the girls a chance to start over again as sisters. Sheeree for her part is touched that she would be accepted easily into the guild even after everything she’s done.
    • Lucy and Lisanna help Angel after the torment she suffered at Asmodeua’s hands, as well all the other stuff she went through in her life, with Lucy noticing that she’s not the same person who was her enemy before. Lisanna in particular has this to say when Angel says she feels empty after everything that’s happened to her.
Lisanna: I know what it’s like for your whole world to just go crumbling down. But it doesn’t have to be the end; it could be a new beginning. The starts of a new life; a happier life.
    • Learning that Dante is also in the tower and likely Vergil, Angel briefly thinks about her last meeting with him and what he said to her, realizing that he brought back some hope in her life that she had lost years ago.
    • As Lady expresses her disappointment over not being able to kill Arkham after finding his (supposedly) dead body, Erza, Wendy and Carla all offer their condolences to her, understanding the anger and sadness she’s feeling right now, assuring her that she doesn’t have to hide anything from Fairy Tail.
    • Carla is relieved to see Happy again, and shows concern for his injuries, in her own way.
    • When Gray still thinks Sheeree is hostile towards Wendy, the Sky Dragon Slayer quickly vouches for her old friend with help from Carla.
    • How quickly Wendy leaps into action to try and help Lady when Arkham/Jester attacks her, and in turn how fast Sheeree and Carla respond when he attacks Wendy. The other members growing anger helps sell how the Fairy Tail members always have one another's backs.
  • Ch 57 Ascension to Hell
    • Natsu is instantly accepting of Sheeree when Wendy assures him that her friend is on their side now, much to Sheeree’s surprise. Natsu says that if she’s Wendy’s friend, then it’s all right with him.
    • As soon as all of the Fairy Tail members in Temen-ni-gru manage to connect with each other thanks to Warren and Hibiki, they all assure one another that they’re okay.
      • Lisanna showing concern for her siblings, especially Mirajane, when, who are similarly relieved to hear their younger sister is alright. Likewise, Natsu and Lisanna are glad to hear from one another.
      • Natsu and Gajeel exchange good natured ribbing at the latter's recovery.
      • The sheer amount of allies coming to their aid floors Dante and Lady, the latter managing to crack a genuine smile in spite of all that just happened and the former touched that so many people are willing to help him and his new friends out. It's moments like this that remind them of how much warmth Fairy Tail has brought into their lives.
    • When Dante decides to travel into the Underworld in order to stop Arkham, Natsu volunteers to go with him so he won’t be alone. Everyone else has little doubt the two are up to the task, showing complete faith in their allies.
      • Then when Happy tries to come along despite being exhauster, Carla offers to go in his place, saying she will contribute any way she can as a member of Fairy Tail. When she insists upon following them all the way into the Underworld, the two says she truly is a member of Fairy Tail in an appreciative tone.
    • Angel offers to help Fairy Tail fight against Arkham’s legions so she can start atoning for her past and repay Lucy, Lisanna, and Dante saving her before, saying Dante gave her hope. She even tells them her real name, Sorano.
      • Likewise Sheeree offers to help fight as well as atonement for her own actions.
    • When Lady insists that she has to be one of the ones to put Arkham down (in spite of her injuries), Dante is beaten to the punch by Natsu in convincing her otherwise, and his speech on the matter shows just how seriously he takes the ideal of guildmates being family. Notably, after the below he shows no fear dealing with the fallout so long as Lady remains safe and sound.
Natsu: Hey you said family matter? Well he's our family to! This guy may be your dad, but you're a part of Fairy Tail! You know what that means? We're all pissed at the guy, and I'll be sure give him an extra smack down for you for you but you're in no shape to fight him!
Lady: You don't know anything about him.
Natsu: Who said I need to know the guy to beat him? Besides I honestly don't know you all that much either. But I can still... take you down!
(knocks her out with a gut punch)
    • Although Dante and Natsu insist on keeping Lady out of the upcoming fight with Arkham, with Natsu even knocking her out, Erza follows them close by with Lady, understanding what her fellow guildmate is going through and wishing to help her friend find some closure.
Erza: I know how it feels. You remember back when Lisanna came back, and I told her about my time in the Tower of Heaven? I know you heard that too. I said it before, that I can understand when your soul is screaming at you to push forward and do what needs to be done. I understand that completely; my soul is screaming right now to help those I love, and that includes you. This man… he murdered your mother; scarred you for life. But it’s not just you. What Natsu said was true. Arkham manipulated Fairy Tail, tricked everyone, including myself, into being pawns in his schemes. So many of my family suffered at his hands. He has to pay, and I firmly believe that you are the one who’s meant to do it. So, I will help you every step of the way (takes off armor piece to show her guildmark) This is not just the symbol of the guild, it’s the sigil of a family, the same one you now bear as well. That means your problems are no longer just your own anymore. Arkham hurt you, he hurt all of us, I will help you finish this. And once this is all over, we’ll go back home, to the family that we both belong to.
  • Ch 58 Dawn of Light
    • The Fairy Tail members Big Damn Heroes moment to their allies outside the tower has quite a few touching moments.
      • Mirajane is determined to keep fighting both to save the world, and in honour of Adrian's memory.
      • Sorano joins in with Trish's pistols, wanting to start helping to make up for her previous actions.
      • Sheeree joining Wendy in attacking a group of demons, happy to fight alongside her sister.
    • Likewise, when it looks like everyone is going to be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of demons they're facing, everyone agrees It Has Been an Honor to fight beside their current allies. Special mention to Panther-Lily, who sincerely means it despite being a member for only a week.
      • Lucy tells Sorano she's glad she got a chance to properly know her, which the tearful woman appreciates.
      • Blue Pegasus and Lamia Scale all reassure Fairy Tail that they have regrets whatsoever in coming to support their allies.
      • The Strauss siblings having what they think might be their final exchange.
Mirajane: Lisanna... my little sister... I just...
Lisanna: Don't worry Mira, I know. But even if it was short, I'm glad I can be with you and Elfman again.
Elfman: If we're going out, then we're going out in the manliest way possible! As a family!
      • Modeus's pride when Wendy and Sheeree refuse to hide behind him.
      • Heck, even Mammon and Satan get in on it, showing the two ultimately do have a sense of camaraderie, and resolve to take down as many demons with them as they can.
    • Natsu's Punctuated Pounding of Arkham is done by listing the names of the many members of Fairy Tail he screwed over, as well as Angel and his own minions, emphasising how much he treasures both his own comrades, and the concept of camaraderie in general.
    • After they defeat Arkham, the Fairy Tail members refuse to hand over the Perfect Amulet or Sparda Sword to Vergil, saying he doesn't deserve any of them. Dante insists he at least deserves the last gift their mother gave them, causing Carla to relent and toss his half of the Perfect Amulet. This, plus Dante making to to grab Vergil before they leave the Demon World displays that despite all the animosity between the two, he'll still look out for his brother where he can.
    • Erza comforting Lady when the latter starts crying after finally killing Arkham, and making sure to carry her out of the collapsing tower. Likewise, her surprise at how many members come to check up on her in the aftermath has Erza give the below speech regarding Fairy Tails nature as a Family of Choice, fully driving home to Lady that she has a proper home and family at last.
Erza: Lady... This is what it means to be a part of a real family. To have those who care and love you unconditionally, even if we're not related by blood. I've said it before, Fairy Tail is a family, and you're a part of that family too.
    • The ending of the chapter, Natsu being hugged by Lisanna, Lucy and Happy, Dante being reuniting with Trish, Carla getting a hug from Wendy and Sheeree, on top of the rest of Fairy Tail warmly greeting and expressing concern for their members. Whole thing concludes with Natsu and Dante sharing a high-five, just as dawn breaks on the scene.
      • A small one, but even Mammon and Satan decide to just hang back, not wanting to interrupt the moment.
  • Ch 59 A Bittersweet Aftermath
    • Vergil and Makarov's first encounter is surprisingly civil, the latter complimenting his abilities and simply questioning the young man on his Might Makes Right philosophy while acknowledging that there is truth to what he preaches. The old man gives a Kirk Summation outlining how he can still follow his own code while doing good for the world.
Makarov: There some truth in your words. It is important to be strong, and maybe the amount of power you wield can determine where you go in life but I believe that power alone isn't the answer to everything; it's how you choose to wield the power that determines who you are. So, you seek to be as strong as your father, maybe even surpass him, but why? What do you plan to do with that power?
Vergil: To kill Mundus. And to take his throne as the next Demon Emperor.
Makarov:''' But why? I can think of many reasons why an individual would want to vanquish Mundus. To take his place, or to protect this world from his evil, but why do you seek it? Is it revenge? To protect something or someone? Or is it a more personal reason? In my lifetime, I have faced many enemies, several with grand ambitions of domination or they simple seek destruction and chaos; those who fully give into darkness and never look back. There is no question what you have done was wrong, Vergil. But I don't quite get that villainous vibe from you; you're not evil, not in the same sense as Mundus.
      • Makarov genuinely shocks Vergil by offering him a place in Fairy Tail, in spite of all that he has done to the guild, and the eldest Son of Sparda nearly takes him up on it, only declining when he notes there is too much bad blood between him and the various members. That, plus his admission of the guild members power shows that he isn't nearly so heartless as he portrays himself, capped off by thanking Makarov for the offer.
      • When asked, Makarov says he will not force Vergil to join, nor will he report his presence to the Magic Council. Even after he declines his offer, he offers the man some solid life advice and sincerely hopes he finds peace. The level of patience and understanding he shows throughout the whole thing makes it clear why so many guild members of Fairy Tail see him as a father figure.
    • The aftermath of last chapters battle has the various members of Fairy Tail, Lamia Scale, Blue Pegasus, and even the remaining members of Devil Hand just shooting the breeze with one another.
      • Wendy wastes no time getting to work healing people, and Sheeree uses her Power Copying to lighten her sisters load. The latter is taken aback by how quick Levy is to praise her abilities despite just recently being enemies, and outright cries when she assures her that everyone in Fairy Tail understands what she went through.
      • Lucy and Lisanna helping an exhausted Natsu. Natsu himself is glad to return the Sparda Sword to Trish, who is grateful.
      • Despite him doing so to serve his own interests, Juvia thanks Mammon for his aid in the final battle.
      • The Thunder Legion complimenting Elfman for lasting so long throughout the crisis, and managing to get everyone out of the tower like he swore.
      • While the Trimens are understandably hostile towards Sorano for killing their guildmate Karen, Lucy and Lisanna speak up in her defense, noting she was also a victim of Devil Hand, and even helped them defeat one of the Sins. Sorano is incredulous that Lucy in particular would do so given how she tortured the girls Spirits in their first encounter, with the blonde responding that her wanting to make amends is enough. Really shows how forgiving and empathetic the Celestial Wizard can be.
      • After dealing with Ichiya for Erza, Lady thanks Erza for supporting her when she got revenge on Arkham. She also more or less admits that that despite initially seeing Fairy Tail as a means of income, she has grown to embrace them as a home and family like everyone else, having to wipe back tears when Erza assures her they will always be there to help her.
    • When Lahar states his intention to arrest Angel as well as the members of Devil Hand, Lucy attempts to speak up in her defense and bringing up her aid in the whole affair. Sorano thanks her and Lisanna for saving her life before willingly entering custody. She also requests Dante look for her sister Yukino, which he agrees to without hesitation, even swearing on his word as both a member of Fairy Tail and Son of Sparda, prompting Tears of Joy from her. Whole thing really shows how much she is already changing for the better.
    • Likewise, when Lahar states he will also arrest Leviathia/Sheeree, Wendy is adamant that he will not take her sister away from her, with every present member of Fairy Tail, as well as the other guilds, being ready to back her up solely on Wendy's word. While Sheeree agrees to go to avoid causing her new friends any trouble, Makarov steps in to cite a law ensuring she gets a less severe sentence, something that Lahar relents to. Wendy and Sheeree exchange a tearful hug, and assures her that there will a be a place for her in Fairy Tail as soon as she is released.
    • Minor, but before his dismantling of the Councils self-serving agenda, Dante mentions it's Nothing Personal to Lahar, and he is aware the man is Just Following Orders, showing a degree of empathy for having to deal with such unsympathetic bosses.
    • When Dante declares his intention to directly oppose the Council should they put Fairy Tail in danger, the members of Blue Pegasus and Lamia Scale show no hesitation backing him up, further reinforcing the camaraderie between the various guilds.
    Tenrou Island
  • Ch 60 He Who Extinguishes Life
    • When Wendy starts to worry about Sheeree, everyone else assures her that she'll only have to serve a year on a juvenile detention centre, and that she can join Fairy Tail afterwards. An eager Wendy says they can be sisters again, and asks Modeus if he can train them both, with the demon agreeing with a smile.
    • After Lady reveals her Dark and Troubled Past to Makarov, as well as the fact that she killed Arkham, he assures her that anyone would have done the same (including him). He goes on to state that Fairy Tail is a place for people of all walks of life, including those without families or evil ones and that he considers every member (including her) to be one of his children. When Lady is visibly holding back tears he tells her 'if a devil may cry, surely a human can', promting her to hug him, tears in her eyes and finally letting out all the emotions she's had bottled for years.
    • Mirajane visits the church both to get Lisanna's grave removed, and to set one up for Adrian, ensuring he gets a proper sendoff.
    • While Mirajane is still distraught at having failed to save Adrian (and being reminded of Lisanna's 'death' as well), her sister reminds her that he died happy, having managed to find peace with her help despite the Trauma Conga Line that was his life. She then states that he would want her to be happy, and both Strauss siblings decide to help others in his memory.
    • Lucy finally gets to talk to Lisanna about her feelings for Natsu, in the process showing just how much she appreciates everything he did for her since she joined Faory Tail. Despite this, she is perfectly willing to step aside for Natsu and Lisann to get together, both because she considers them a better match, and because she doesn't want to lose either of them as friends, showing how fast she bonded with Lisanna.
      • In response Lisanna tells Lucy that Natsu spoke about her a lot as well, being full of praise for her, and states that she has bonded with Natsu just as much as Lisanna herself, despite not knowing him as long. She then suggests that they share Natsu, so that they can all be happy, which Lucy accepts.
      • Dante, having overheard the above conversation, keeps the jokes to a minimum and promises to let them be the ones to tell Natsu. He also sincerely wishes them good luck, even remarking that as a result of a relationship between a human and a demon he's not going to judge anyone in unusual relationships.
  • Ch 61 The S-Class Trials
    • When Cana asks about her father, Lucy admits that while they haven't spoken in a while, the two are on better terms.
    • Lisanna asks Modeus about Sparda, curious as to what the man was like. In turn, Modeus is full of praise for his mentor, even bringing attention to his intelligence and moral character, rather than his strength as most do. He goes on to say that he would have been quite fond of everyone on Fairy Tail.
    • Lisanna is shocked to be chosen as an S-Class candidate, expressing doubt at the decision. In response, everyone assures her that her experience in Edolas and with Devil Hand shows that she is more than capable of joining the ranks of her fellow candidates. Elfman in particular is quite proud of his sister despite competing against her.
    • When the S-Class candidates are choosing their partners, there are plenty of these.
      • When asked about his choice, Natsu states it's Happy with zero hesitation, showing how much faith he has in his little buddy. When Gray teases him about the Exceeds lacking combat abilities Dante chimes in about how they beat Iblis together, which Happy appreciates.
      • Likewise, Dante selects Lady as his partner, not even needing to consider the others, to her surprise. He goes on to say they're already a great team and that her skills should make this easy, clearly full of praise for his longtime friend. Lady is clearly touched.
      • When Juvia is hesitant to join in, Modeus both offers to be her partner, and convinces her to participate, clearly wanting her to love up to her potential.
      • Gray and Loke team up, apparently having promised to do so the previous year of either were selected. Despite not interacting much it's clear the two have each others back.
      • When Levy expresses doubt at her ability to clear the Trials, Gajeel of all people offers to be her partner, even promising to 'make her big' if she lets him. Surprisingly encouraging of him.
      • Lisanna asks Lucy to be her partner, saying they made a great team before and showing how close the two have grown. When Lucy declines (feeling she's not strong enough to help), Lisanna accepts, but not before assuring her she is a great Celestial Wizard. Thankfully, Trish offers as well, which Lisanna accepts.
      • After Cana reveals the reason for her desperation to pass the trials, a listening Lucy, Lisanna and Trish are all sympathetic, and Lucy offers to be her partner despite her lack of confidence. She even states she wants Cana to remain part of the guild, showing how much her friend means to her.
    • While preparing for the Trials, Dante and Natsu share a quiet moment together, empathizing over the loss of their respective fathers, and Dante outright says he has what it takes to become S-Class. After declaring that neither will hold back during the Trials, the two share a fist bump before beginning a good-natured spar, with a watching Happy and Lady outright calling them the best of friends.
  • Ch 62 Who are the Lucky Ones?
    • Dante's internal dialogue reveals that he's actually honored that he was named an S-Class candidate despite being a relatively new member of the guild. Despite his flippant attitude, he's quite touched, and wants to make sure he does the guild proud.
    • Throughout the chapter, Lucy repeatedly makes sure to keep Cana's spirits at each obstacle.
    • Lady's internal dialogue shows that she thinks Dante definitely deserves to become S-Class, both for his strength, will and heart. The fact that her thoughts say he 'saved her life and soul' indicates how much her old friend has helped over the years, and how much she appreciates his moral character. Despite all the snark and insults between them, she has a very high opinion of her fellow devil hunter.
    • The Reveal that Freed and Bickslow threw their fight with Lucy and Cana, wanting to make up for their actions in the Fight Festival and Laxus' coup. While they wish to follow in their leaders footsteps, they clearly value their other guildmates wellbeing more, and showed enough tact to make the fight convincing.
  • Ch 63 Trial by Fire and Fear
    • During the fight of Lisanna and Trish against Juvia and Modeus, both sides are friendly towards one another, frequently praising each others skills. Modeus in particular gives Trish some constructive criticism as they fight, even reminisces about his time training under Sparda while facing the Sparda Sword, and acts as a Graceful Loser when they defeat Juvia.
    • In the flashbacks, Gildarts quickly grows fond of the young Natsu, taking his ambush attempts in stride and even indulges his request for a sparring match. The only time he scolds him is when Natsu fails to return Lisannas greeting before attacking him, chiding him for bad manners and generally acting as a second father for the kid.
    • In the present, Gildarts expresses pride in how far Natsu has come, happily declaring he passes. When Natsu insists they fight, he quickly deduces his fear of Vergil and the mark it left on him. After making him concede defeat by unleashing his true power, he proceeds to gently tell him that there's nothing to be ashamed about feeling fear, teaching the Dragon Slayer a valuable lesson in knowing when you're outmatched. Still lets him pass, confident the kid will make it far.
  • Ch 64 Mest
    • Gray apologises to Wendy after underestimating her, taking her seriously as an opponent. After winning, he praises how far she's come, and even gives her some constructive criticism.
    • Natsu contemplating Gildarts advice, and finally makes peace with his fear of Vergil, regaining his usual vigor in the process.
    • Gray is saddened to hear that Juvia failed to pass the first trial. While he finds her antics annoying, he clearly cares about her.
    • The reason Wendy agreed to be Mests partner (despite his Cloud Cuckoolander personality) is because he is Mystogans apprentice, and she wants to pay back his kindness, despite Carla and Modeus pointing out she already helped save his homeland. It's clear how much she respects the prince, despite not knowing him that long.
    • After expressing his suspicion of Mest, Dante decides to suspend his efforts to clear the second trial to check up on Wendy, who is alone with him, showing how much he prioritises the safety of his friends. Lady internally notes Dante is always like this, and that it's one of the things she admires about him.
    • Dante and Lady encounter Zeref, and despite mistaking him for a tresspasser, both sides are polite (if wary) to one another. The devil hunters offer to help him if he's lost while he agrees to leave simply after being asked.
      • From the same scene, Zeref mistakes Dante for Sparda, whom he speaks of like an old friend. He is visibly happy when Dante says he is Sparda's son, noting that means his old friend managed to find happiness with someone, lifting his spirits for the first time since his debut.
  • Ch 65 Enter the Black Wizard and Grimoire Heart
    • Despite an incredibly poor first impression, Dante, Happy, and Lady all pick up on the fact that Zeref didn't want to hurt any of them. They decide to give him the benefit of the doubt, explicitly saying they'll just try to talk to him rather than attack him.
    • After hearing Dante's suspicions about Mest, Natsu quickly decides to hold off doing the trial to look for her, as well as warn the others about Zeref. Despite his eagerness to become S-Class, the guy still puts his friends first.
    • In a twisted sort of way, Hades averts Sins of the Father when it comes to Dante's relation to Sparda, insisting to the Eight Kin of Purgatory that they give him a chance to join him.
    • We get to see how Gajeel joined Fairy Tail via flashback, in which Makarov approached him in the aftermath of Phantom Lords disbandment. Despite everything Gajeel did during their inter-guild war (and Makarov holding a grudge himself) he makes it clear he doesn't want the Dragon Slayer to go down a darker road if he can help it, giving him a place to call home instead. Especially notable given how listless Gajeel was on his own.
Gajeel: And I was also the one who hurt your three little friends.
Makarov: I know. (Death Glare) A despicable act that I will never completely forgive! (calms down) But for me, letting a young man fall into darkness when knowing I could have done something to prevent it, is something even more unforgiveable.
      • Another reason Makarov looked for Gajeel was that Juvia asked him. While we don't see them interact much the former Phantom Lord members are good friends.
      • In the present, Gajeel shows off how far he's come by proudly proclaiming himself a Fairy Tail wizard, making it clear he has embraced them as True Companions and using it as motivation to defeat his opponents despite his injuries.
  • Ch 66 Clash of Light and Darkness
    • Despite wanting to bring down Fairy Tail, Doranbolt shows no hesitation saving Wendy from Azumas attack and warns Panther-Lily and Carla about it as well. He also requires minimal convincing to join forces.
    • Minor, but Dante and Modeus offer the Grimoire Heart Mooks a chance to walk away, averting What Measure Is a Mook?. They don't take it of course, but the sentiment was nice.
    • Natsu is in a rush to reach the sight of the explosion he saw, having picked up Wendy's scent in the vicinity. Upon finding her he wakes her up as gently as possible, with her calling him 'brother' and hugging him after she awakens.
      • Likewise, he expresses pride in her when she manages to defeat several Grimoire Heart Mooks despite her injuries.
Natsu: (thoughts) That's my little sis.
    • In a flashback, the then-benevolent Precht bestows the Hot-Blooded younger Makarov the position of guildmaster. When Makarov protests, feeling unworthy of the title, the elder mage reassures him he has what it takes to lead Fairy Tail to greatness.
    • Makarov going full Papa Wolf mode when Hades implies he might force Dante t become a member of Grimoire Heart, showing he really does consider all the members his children. It's also nice to see that Dante has someone looking out for him like a father for once.
Makarov: Before you even lay so much as a finger on him, you'll have to go through me!
    • Hades reveals that Sparda was a founding member of Fairy Tail and was even considered as the first guildmaster, only declining for fear of demons targeting them out of spite. Despite never officially joining, he visited them regularly over the years, clearly viewing them as friends. Hades afforms that this was reciprocated, with all of the founders greatly admiring him as well.
      • This also makes Dante joining Heartwarming in Hindsight, as despite being dead, his father gave him another family to be a part of.
  • Ch 67 The Flame God and the Holy Devil
    • Modeus going full Papa Wolf when he hears that Azuma attacked Wendy.
    • Zerefs internal dialogue makes it clear that if not for fear of his curse, he'd try and help stop the fighting going on on the island.
    • It's revealed that part of the reason Lady named her rocket launcher after her mother was so that she could always keep her memory close, which is why the blade has it inscribed. It makes it all the more tragic when Job breaks it.
    • When Job questions why Dante refuses to go down, he responds that he's part of something bigger than himself, and refuses to leave them behind. Guy has really grown attached to his Family of Choice.
    • Likewise, Dante showing no hesitation at taking a blast for Lady.
  • Ch 68 The Grand Magic World
    • Azuma respects Modeus' beliefs and despite disagreeing praises him for honouring his Spardas teachings. Throughout the fight he sincerely praises both him and Mirajane for their prowess, and rather than finish them off after winning, simply asks Levy to thank them on his behalf for giving him the best fight of his life. Especially notable given he says this after Modeus cut off his arm.
    • Related to the above, Modeus is reluctant to use his Devil Trigger against the Kin of Purgatory member for fear of killing him, showing how highly he regards life. Even when he has the advantage he cuts his opponents arm off rather than end him. It backfires, but the sentiment was nice.
    • As Evergreen apologises to Elfman, feeling she failed him as a partner, he assures her that it's because of her that he made it this far.
    • Upon hearing that the Magic Council will likely use Etherion on Tenrou Island to deal with Grimoire Heart and Zeref, Doranbolt objects to putting Fairy Tail in the crossfire. Despite his dislike for them and wanting to get them disbanded, he explicitly states they don't deserve to be treated as criminal and advocates for another solution. For what it's worth, Lahar agrees with his assessment, albeit not enough to disobey orders.
    • After Caprico reveals Trish's past as a servant of Mundus in front of the others, she tries to explain the details to them... only to be surprised when they tell her it doesn't matter, especially compared to who she is now. Touched, the She-Devil faces Caprico, proudly proclaiming herself a member of Fairy Tail.
    • Everyones relief at Dante waking up after recovering from his wounds form Job. He makes sure to thanks Lady, with the two exchanging some good natured ribbing.
  • Ch 69 The Bonds of Family
    • Dante's complete and utter rejection of Ultears offer to join Grimoire Heart, both to honour the memory of his mother, and further affirming his loyalty to his new family, showing how much they mean to him.
Dante: My mother was one of the kindest people I ever met in my life. I never once doubted she loved me with all her heart, even sacrificed herself to try and save me and Vergil. And Mundus took her away from me. So even if I do hate this world, I would never join Mundus! I'd sooner die than help him! But that alone isn't it. I may have lost one family back then, but I found a new one. (turns to others with a smile) And I will never walk away from them. My name is Dante of Fairy Tail! So you can take your offer and blow it out your demon-worshipping-psychopathic ass! You and your pals messed with my family; now I'm gonnna mess with you right back!
    • After being freed from Zoldeo, Capricorns true personality emerges, being incredibly friendly and respectful, thanking Trish and Loke for their actions in freeing him and apologizing for Zoldeo's actions with his body. He is also delighted to hear Lucy is Layla's daughter, favourably comparing her kindness to her mothers and telling Loke he cannot give her his loyalty... because she had it long ago, clearly looking forward to working with her.
      • While confirming that Eva was Layla Heartfilia's sister, Capricorn remarks that if Eva ever had a daughter, she would be proud to have one like Trish, even respectfully calling her 'Lady Trish'. A touched Trish declares them family, not just from the Sparda-Heartfilia bloodline, but as members of Fairy Tail, showing she has also adopted the Family of Choice mentality of her guildmates.
  • Ch 70 Awakening
    • Lucy finally stands up to Aquarius, refusing to be cowed by the Celectial Spirits complaints and threats after summoning her to save Trish Kain Hikaru, complete with a slap. An impressed Aquarius admits she was trying to invoke this sort of reaction, and is proud of her master, promising to obey her from now on, and is even willing to pull a (non-lethal) Heroic Sacrifice on her behalf.
      • The fact that Lucy hit her breaking point when Aquarius disregarded her friends wellbeing rather than her own also serves as a nice reminder of her kind nature.
    • Seeing Dante about to be killed triggers a Traumatic Superpower Awakening in both Trish and Lady, fuelled by their love for their oldest friend. When the fight is over, the two go to give the injured devil hunter a hug, crying in relief at him surviving. In turn, he has this the below compliment to say about them, showing how highly all three regard one another.
Dante: You two... You never cease to amaze...
      • Trish's thoughts reveal just how much Dante believing in her meant to her, all the more so since she was working for Mundus when the two first met. Even before joining Fairy Tail, she considered him family, for having helped her break free and form her own identity.
      • Likewise, Lady internally admits that he was the first person who helped her out of the dark place she was in after Arkhams betrayal, the two having bonded over losing their families to power hungry monsters. They don't advertise it as much, but the two share a bond as close as some of the oldest members of Fairy Tail.
  • Ch 71 Hope and Love vs Despair and Hate
    • Doranbolt grabbing the communications lacrima to delay the firing of Etherion and give himself time to talk to Fairy Tail. Despite his distaste for them and their current hostility to him, he offers to evacuate them all off the island, insisting that at most he wanted them disbanded, not killed. Even when they refuse, he agrees to stall for time so they can deal with Grimoire Heart, respecting their wishes.
    • Despite Cana knocking her out and basically abadoning her in the middle of Grimoire Hearts invasion, Lucy is more disappointed than angry, and even insists that the others make sure she's safe before even thinking of chewing her out. Girl is too nice for her own good.
    • Despite being villains, the flashback to Ultear adopting Meredy was sweet, giving the recently orphaned child a home (against the protests of Zancrow and Job) and displaying plenty of encouragement of her potential. A more recent memory involves Meredy outright telling Ultear she see's her as a mother, with a touched Ultear giving the below response, complete with a sincere smile.
Ultear: I'm far too young to have such a mature and talented daughter.
    • A few moments from the villains.
      • Hades is impressed at how many of his elites Fairy Tail has managed to defeat, expressing genuine respect and saying Sparda himself would be proud.
      • Despite the loss of his arm, Azuma has nothing but praise for his opponents when talking to Rustyrose, even advising his companion against underestimating them.
      • During the same conversation, Rustyrose refers to Meredy as 'our blossoming flower', inferring a degree of pride in the Kins youngest member and that Ultear's not the only member of Grimoire Heart she has a positive relationship with.
    • After Meredy decides to kill herself to take Juvia and Gray with her, Juvia closes the distance, blasts away her sword and... gives the poor girl a hug. With tears in her eyes, she implores Meredy to live for the sake of the person she loves so much, having experienced her emotions from the above flashback through the sensory link. This actually gets through to the girl, who starts crying and disables the link herself, as a smiling and teary eyed Juvia continues to hug her, right before both collapse.
    • While their separation was brief, Dante and Erza's reunion is nice, both expressing concern for each others safety, and appreciating said concern from the other.
  • Ch 72 Fairy Glitter and the Tenrou Tree
    • In a flashback, despite not knowing she's his daughter, Gildarts is quite friendly to a young Cana, recognising her upon their second meeting despite having only seen her for a few seconds on his way out from a job. He warmly welcomes her to Fairy Tail and gives her encouragement regarding her skills, and her chances in the S-Class trials.
      • The reason Cana was able to find him was because her mother told her about him before she died, wanting to make sure her little girl could still stay with family.
      • Macao and Wakaba are the first to welcome Cana into Fairy Tail, letting her stay to wait for Gildarts, and introducing her to him despite not knowing her that well. Later on, the two encourage her to pursue her talent for magic, with Makarov joining in. While she never revealed her relation to her blood father, it's clear Cana was never short on father figures during her time in Fairy Tail.
    • Mavis' spirit encourages Cana by saying that mistakes, even the massive one she made are never a dead end, but rather things to learn and move on from, and entrusts her with Fairy Glitter, one of the guilds three most powerful spells, showing immense faith in the young woman.
    • After realising what she's done, Cana rushes straight to where Lucy and the others are, armed with Fairy Glitter. She vows to both atone for her recent actions, as well as pay back the twelve years of kindness from Fairy Tail, a sweet reminder of how much the guild has done for her.
    • Gildarts Big Damn Heroes has him go full Papa Wolf on Bluenote, furious at his opponent for nearly killing the younger guild members, and Grimoire Heart in general for denying them a chance to grow.
    • While everyone is understandably angry at Cana, they all accept her apology, recognising her sincere remorse, while the worst Trish does is punch her in the face. Lucy in particular seems relieved she's alright more than anything, not even seeming to hold a grudge.
    • Freed and Bickslow returning in time to save the others from Rustyrose, and are enraged that he hurt their teammate.
    • In a way, how civil Ultear is towards Gray, noting her status as Ur's biological daughter makes the two of them siblings of sorts. She also shows some concern when he collapses from Azuma toppling the Tenrou Tree.
    • Azuma continues to be the most noble member of Grimoire Heart, remarking to Dante and Erza that he does understand the concept of fighting to protect others, having fought many such people in the past, and sincerely respects all of them. He also gives plenty of compliments to his opponents on their many accomplishments, considering it an honour to fight them.
  • Ch 73 Titania and the Crimson Knight
    • Amidst glimpses of the Fairy Tail members affected by the Tenrou Tree falling, Meredy is seen pulling Juvia to safety. Despite questioning why she's doing so, it's clear she appreciated how much the young woman helped her.
    • Azuma promises to reverse the effects on all the Fairy Tail members should Dante and Erza defeat him, and throughout the fight, is full of compliments for their combat prowess, vocally calling them the best warriors he's ever faced. He goes so far as to give Dante the title of 'the legendary Crimson Knight' to distinguish him as more than his fathers son, even expressing faith he may one day surpass Sparda himself.
    • Overlaps with awesome, but Dante and Erza's teamwork is flawless, the two having built excellent rapport over the course of their sparring sessions.
    • Just as Dante and Erza are beginning to falter in the final clash, the two are visited by what seems to be the spirit of Sparda himself, who reminds them of everything and everyone they're fighting for. This gives the two the final push to pull off a win, and Sparda looks on at his son in pride.
  • Ch 74 Frozen Kindred Spirits
    • Dante and Erza paying their respects to Azuma in his final moments, even remarking he would have fit right ijn at Fairy Tail, an assessment he appreciates. In his final moments he makes it clear he has no regrets, and calls the two the greatest warriors he's ever had the pleasure of facing. The two reciprocate the sentiment, calling him a great warrior, in a suitable sendoff to the Noble Demon.
    • Despite her devotion to Ultear, Meredy protests when the Eight Kin's leader goes to kill Juvia, showing how much of an impact the young woman has had on her despite knowing her so briefly.
    • When the group at the basecamp are worried about Gray and Juvia being unaccounted for, Happy says Gray can handle himself against any of the remaining Kin of Purgatory, an assessment Natsu agrees with.
    • In a twisted way, but part of Ultear's plan is to use the 'Grand Magic World' to rewrite time so that she can return to a point when she still loved her mother and be part of a family with her and Meredy. Despite her hatred for the woman, she still cares about her deep down. In addition, this plus the fact that she openly explained her plan to Meredy makes it clear she trusts the girl a great deal, and her care for her is genuine.
    • What we see of Ur's memories reveal that she never abandoned Ultear (then named Urtear), instead having brought her to the Bureau of Magical Development to get treated for her excessive amounts of magical power, and only left because they lied that her daughter had died. This, in addition to Gray simply asking her to leave the island (having promised himself to help her let go of her hatred just like Ur did for him) results in her giving him genuine advice on how to defeat Hades, beginning a new chapter of her life free of the resentment that defined her for so long.
  • Ch 75 Into the Devil's Heart
    • Rather than simply chase her, Juvia attempts to reason with Meredy to get her to cease chasing the 'Grand Magic World', appealing to her sense of morality by pointing out how many more children such a thing would orphan. This actually gets through to the young girl, whose loyalty to Ultear just barely stops her from relenting.
    • Zeref apologising to Zancrow after he kills him, saying he didn't deserve such a fate, and being happy to see that Meredy and Juvia are merely unconscious. Seems even after such a long time in isolation, the man still places immense value on the lives of others.
    • When the group is discussing who should attack Grimoire Heart and who should defend the basecamp, Natsu says Lisanna should stay, since they'll need some of their heavy hitters. Before he leaves she gives him a kiss on the cheek, telling him to "kick his ass". A blushing Natsu promises to do so, complete with a smile on his face.
    • In a twisted way, Hades once again giving Dante a chance to join him, even saying that in the 'Grand Magic World' they can bring back his mother.
    • Dante's complete and utter rejection of Hades' offer, acknowledging that while Hades is right in that people can be quite cruel, there are still plenty of good ones worth protecting, even outside of Fairy Tail, and proclaims that he will always stand up for the little guy, no matter who's in his way. The others waste no time backing him up, in spite of their wounds, unleashing their attacks to ensure that Hades is unable to attack their comrade.
    • The main reason Precht confronted Mundus on Mallet Island was to vanquish his avatar in honour of his dear friend Sparda. It ended very, very poorly, but the sentiment was nice.
    • At the basecamp, Levy assists Freed in setting up runes for defense, promising an unconscious Gajeel that it's her turn to protect him.
    • The members of Fairy Tail back in Magnolia discussing the S-Class Trial, and all those who are participating, with Romeo in particular expressing complete confidence in Natsu's ability to win.
    • Despite having just met, and in the middle of a life-and-death battle, Dante and Laxus almost immediately form a great rapport, trading good natured banter and displaying excellent teamwork. Laxus in particular shows how far he's come by two separate attacks for his comrades, and after the second one takes him out of the fight, he passes a good chunk of his magic to Natsu, saying that it should be a member of Fairy Tail getting payback on the Big Bad. These two actions show great faith in his comrades, old and new, and their ability to prevail in the face of the current odds.
  • Ch 76 Out of the Abyss-Into the Daylight
    • At the basecamp, several of the unconscious members awaken just in time to help turn the tables, with everyone happy to see them up and about again.
      • Evergreen joins Freed and Bickslow against a demonic Kawazu, the Thunder Tribe happy to be fighting side by side again.
      • During their fight against Yomazu, Lady, Gajeel and Elfman continue to compliment each others efforts and skills.
      • Modeus facing down Job's Desperation Attack, and before his counter, mentally promises Sparda he will make sure to use his power to protect his family, showing how close they're grown to him.
    • Ultear using the last of her magic to restore the Tenrou Tree, to both begin atoning for her crimes and as thanks for giving her a new leash on life.
    • Despite their complete exhaustion, both physically and magically, everyone follows Natsu's lead when he says he has a plan, with that being enough to ignite their spirits once again, displaying great confidence in his judgement.
    • When Natsu's scarf is blown away in the battle, Lucy makes sure to catch it and return it to him in the aftermath.
    • The basecamp team arriving to back up the ones attacking Hades, and after scaring off the remaining members of Grimoire Heart, everyone is happy to reunite.
      • Upon their reunion, Lisanna gives Natsu a Big Damn Kiss, which, after a moments surprise, he reciprocates, to the aww of a watching Happy and Lucy, and likely many of the readers.
      • Watching this, Lady gives Dante a kiss on the cheek.
    • In response to Hades insistence that Mundus is the source of all magic and demonic power, Makarov gives an uplifting speech about why that doesn't matter, stating that the nature and origin of a power doesn't matter so much as how it is used. He specifically cites Sparda as an example, a demon who joined the light, and says he's honoured to have been following his teachings this whole time. He caps it off by remarking that he learned all of this from Precht, showing that despite what the man has become, he still treasures the many wise lessons he imparted upon him.
    • The return to the basecamp has plenty of shenanigans starting, everyone happily winding down from all the life-and-death battles.
      • The Exceeds and Lady complimenting Panther-Lily on his new Devil Arm, Baskerville. And while it's ill considered with his injuries, Gajeel eagerly asks to help give it a test run, wanting to help out his friend.
      • Trish and Capricorn are happy to see one another again, with the She-Devil complimenting him on his suit and promising to relay what he told her to Dante and Lucy.
      • Dante and Wendy compliment Modeus on his new sword, and agree that the name Hunter's Moon is quite fitting.
      • Despite Makarov's (outward) disapproval, it's clear that everyone in Fairy Tail is happy to see Laxus again, especially the Thunder Legion. He even exchanges some good natured ribbing with Gildarts, and while it's Played for Laughs, approves when he thinks Elfman and Evergreen are dating.
      • Gajeel willing to let Wendy heal Panther-Lily before him.
      • Dante and Modeus decline Wendy's offer to heal them, wanting to ensure that she doesn't spread herself too thin.
  • Ch 77 Acnologia
    • Ultear confesses that she was indeed the one to destroy Meredy's hometown, and while twisted, her attempted suicide was done in the hopes of giving the girl some closure without having to dirty her hands. Her confession also had her reveal her end goal was to use the Grand Magic World to enhance her Arc of Time to use a Reset Button on the world, giving herself, her mother and Meredy a better life, showing her care for the girl was always genuine. Fortunately for her, this attempt is stopped by none other than Meredy herself, who reveals she used a Sensory Link and felt all her genuine remorse for her misdeeds. The young girl confesses she still loves her mother figure, and asks that they go on living together, the two in tears as they embrace.
    • In spite of Cana's actions, and the punishment for them, Makarov adds in training to use Fairy Glitter for one of the activities for her probation period, to her surprise. He says that if the first master considered her worthy of such a gift, she clearly made the right call, and personally praises her for having the courage the own up to her mistake and try to make amends, calling it an attitude befitting a true Fairy Tail wizard. Despite their disappointment in her actions, everyone present wholeheartedly agrees with his assessment.
    • Laxus is pleasantly surprised to see Lisanna again, even teasingly asking 'what death was like'. Despite their Undying Loyalty to him, the Thunder Legion ask he stop messing with her, and praise her for new Dragon Take Over, showing the amount of respect and care the kind young woman inspires. Laxus himself appears happy at the implication that she and Natsu got together, showing notable consideration for his comrades happiness.
    • Small, but Dante, Natsu and Gildarts just relaxing and enjoying fishing together. A much needed break after all the fighting from before.
    • Despite a rocky start, Gildarts is overjoyed when he learns Cana is his daughter, warmly hugging her and calling her mother Cornelia 'the only woman [he] ever truly loved', outright referring to his time married to her as the happiest of his life. While he regrets not knowing all this time, he still appreciates having been able to watch his daughter grow up over the years. For her part, Cana is happy to get this off her chest, and calls him 'Dad' while saying she was glad to meet him. This prompts the two to warmly embrace, Tears of Joy in their eyes, as he promises to support her from now on and asks for a chance to be a father. Tears of Joy abound for the watchers in- and out-of-universe.
    • Makarov not hesitating to hold off Acnologia despite knowing he will die in the process, all because it will ensure the safety of his children. Even on his apparent deathbed, he is content with the knowledge that they will make it out safely.
      • Dante returns to help out, having recalled his last moments with his mother and vows to not let the man he sees as a second father perish. The others quickly follow, unwilling to leave Makarov to die even at his request.
    • As everyone joins hands to power one last ditch effort to survive Acnologia's attack, Dante makes sure his possible last words let his new family know how much they means to him, as he stands beside his newly confirmed cousin.
Dante: Hey, just in case. (smiles) Thanks... for making me a part of your family. It was nice to have one again.
Natsu: (smiles) No problem buddy, it's what we do.
  • Ch 78 Epilogue - Fairy Tail's Stylish Return
    • Alzack and Bisca's daughter apparently refers to Romeo as her big brother.
    • The fact that after the Tenrou Island incident, it's mentioned that many guilds and organizations aided in the efforts to search for Tenrou Island and the missing members, showing how many loyal friends and allies they made over the years.
    • Despite the many, many knocks to Fairy Tails reputation, many of their allies not only help them out, but warmly regard them as friends. Morrison apparently helped them out with finding odd jobs over the years out of loyalty to Dante, even apologizing for not being of more use, and Ichiya and the Trimens personally arrive to deliver news of new Ethernano readings that could be a lead to the missing members.
    • The reactions of all the Fairy Tail members investigating Tenrou Island, being completely overjoyed at finding their long lost comrades, and warmly hugging several of them.
    • Pretty much every moment involving Sparda and Mavis, who display exactly the sort of kindness you'd expect from founders of Fairy Tail.
      • While they managed to use Fairy Sphere to protect everyone from Acnologia, they apologize for the error in making them miss seven years, and remark that activating it at all was only possible thanks to the strong bonds between all the present members.
      • Sparda and Modeus are visibly happy to see one another again, and when Makarov remarks it is an honour to meet him, the Dark Knight says the honour is his, thankful the man kept the guild he founded going for so long, all while instilling the founding principles into each and every member.
      • While he (falsely) states he doesn't know where Igneel and the other dragons are, he tells Natsu, Gajeel, and Wendy that they would be proud of all the three of them have accomplished, which makes the trio visibly happier.
      • After adding further confirmation to Lucy that she and Dante are cousins, he insists that she call him 'Uncle'.
      • Finally, there's his reunion with his own son, who is shocked at the sight of his father after so long. Despite Sparda's guilt for all the tragedy he feels he brought upon his family, Dante assures him that he never hated him, even saying that the hardship he faced was worth it since it led him to where he is now. A touched Sparda remarks that his greatest regret is never getting to tell his son how proud he's made him, capping off the incredibly warm exchange below with their first father-son hug in over a decade.
Sparda: Dante, you've not only grown into a capable warrior, but a kind and caring man, willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of the friends and family you have made. It makes me so happy to see how much you have grown, and I know your mother would be beyond proud as well.
        Dante:(Tears of Joy) Dad...
        Sparda:(smiles) I know.
      • The above is shortly followed by Sparda thanking Fairy Tail for giving his son another home, and family.
    • Seeing everyone's return prompts a shocked Romeo to let out Tears of Joy, crying and smiling for the first time in years, especially with Natsu's warm greeting.

Devil's Retribution

    Seven Year Gap
  • Ch. 1 The Empty Seven Years:
    • All of the reunions between the members who were on Tenrou Island and the rest of the guild.
      • Erza is elated to hear that Bisca and Alzack tied the knot and have a child now.
      • Gajeel is happy to hear about Totomaru being a teacher, showing pride that his old friend is doing well.
      • In addition, members of Lamia Scale came to visit, and it's mentioned that they along with Blue Pegasus spent the longest time searching for the members on Tenrou Island.
      • Erza's friends Milliana, Sho and Wally come to visit as well, and reveal that they have all joined guilds (Mermaid Heel, Lamia Scale and Quatro Cerberus respectively) over the timeskip.
    • Even posthumously, Jude Heartfilia gets a few, showing how far he came since his last talk with Lucy.
      • Before he passed away, he sent seven years' worth of rent to both Dante and Lucy's apartments, along with letters that confirm that Eva, Dante and Vergil's mother, and Layla, Lucy's mother, were sisters. He also knew and was good friends with Sparda, his brother-in-law.
      • He also made sure to send birthday presents to Lucy every year, showing he took the time to reflect on and make up for his poor treatment of her when she was younger. What's more, he mentions he supported Fairy Tail where he could in her absence, clearly showing appreciation for them giving his daughter a new home.
      • In his letter to Dante, he apologizes for not trying to search for him and Vergil, which the son of Sparda is understanding and appreciative of. Jude also mentions he tried to reach out to Vergil over the timeskip, showing he never forgot about his nephews.
    • Another name for the chapter could be "Dante and Lucy: Loving Family."
      • Dante quickly scares off two shallow girls harassing Lucy after they'd learned that her father died during the time skip.
      • Dante remembers a time when he, Vergil, Sparda, and Eva visited the Heartfilia residence thirteen years ago. There the twin brothers (yes, Vergil too) happily played around with a young Lucy. Vergil in particular was excited when they gave him a book full of poetry by Willian Blake, showing how innocent he was as a child. Anyone who's played Devil May Cry 5 will understand how significant this was for him.
      • Dante entrusts Lucy with his half of the Perfect Amulet. When she protests he first expresses faith in her ability to keep it safe, before telling her it's personal importance is what makes it a gift worth giving. Lucy is clearly touched.
      • Despite everything he's done to them and their friends, Lucy wants to reach out to Vergil, hoping to establish a positive relationship with her other remaining family member. Dante is somewhat sceptical, but readily agrees, clearly hoping that he can finally establish a friendly relationship with his brother.
  • Ch. 2 A Girl Named Patty
    • Dante and Lucy going on jobs together, clearly enjoying each others company and make a great team. The latter in particular is eager join both to help her cousin and start live up to her uncles legacy as a devil hunter, a far cry from her old attitude to dangerous jobs.
    • Makarov reunites with the other Wizard Saints and with the exception of God Serena is warmly welcomed by everyone. The man himself is clearly happy to see his colleagues again.
      • Makarov congratulates Kurenai on Mermaid Heel becoming the second ranked guild, to which she expresses pride in her family for. She also wishes Fairy Tail luck in achieving their old renown, showing faith in the groups ability to do so.
    • It is revealed that Crime Sorciere are active and even have two more members than in canon! Angel (going by her birth name of Sorano), who has cemented her Heel–Face Turn and Sheree, who has taken up the last name Marvell, legally making herself Wendy's sister. In a similar vein Meredy shares Ultears name of Milkovitch, indicating the latter has not only made peace with her mothers memory, but formally adopted the young girl as well.
    • Throughout the chapter Lucy acts as a Cool Big Sis to Patty, sharing her own experience with losing a parent and saving the girl from Sid. She later gives the actual Patty Lowell set to inherit the money a scathing "The Reason You Suck" Speech alongside Dante for putting the young girl in danger, showing how much she's grown to care for her in such a short time.
      • At one point Lucy summons Virgo to look after Patty while she and Dante were investigating a demon attack on the train, with the Celestial Spirit consoling the girl and dispatching the demon after her, making sure to do so without alerting and worrying the distraught girl.
    • For what it's worth, the actual Patty Lowell set to inherit the money shows she isn't completely heartless, making sure to specifically request Dante to protect the young girl and is appalled when she realizes how close she came to death. She offers to take care of the girl as atonement and still gives her a regular allowance of considerable amounts money.
      • For her part, the young Patty spends a good portion of the money providing better living conditions and comforts for the others at her orphanage, showing how much she cares for the ones she grew up with.
  • Ch. 3 Not Love
    • The members of Fairy Tail training together and giving each other tips on how to improve. Of particular note is Trish advising Lucy on how to improve if she wants to be a devil hunter, with the latter wanting to improve to do her uncles legacy proud.
    • When speculating about Natsu's Lightning-Flame mode, Modeus mentions that dragons have done the same in the past, willingly giving their power to others of their kind, which formed the basis for giving humans Dragon-Slayer magic. The idea that dragons willingly shared their power with one another is a touching concept.
    • Romeo getting a chance to join the others on a mission and show off how far he's come to all his old role models. The kid is clearly enthused at the thought of going on a mission of his guilds most prominent members.
    • Fairy Tail refusing to kill Brad on the mayors word. Even after determining that he's a demon they show no hostility and can immediately tell he's a good person, to his surprise. What's more, everyone present encourage him to continue his relationship with Angelina, with Natsu of all people reassuring him that so long as they both love one another it doesn't matter if they're a demon and a human.
    • Angelina and Brad's relationship in general, both being willing to risk their safety for the other.
      • Angelina sneaks out against her fathers wishes to warn him about the Fairy Tail mages hired to kill him, which Brad appreciates. He even mentions she is one of the first people to show him kindness.
      • For his part Brad is willing his master Belphegor's wrath by warning Fairy Tail about his arrival ahead of time and was willing to confront him even before Fairy Tail offered to help him. Hell, Brad in general could be counted for being such a Nice Guy despite being treated like crap before coming to Earthland.
      • In the end Angelina moves out to live with him, the two getting their own place to live. What's more, her father ultimately gives them his support, showing he really does care for his daughter.
    • At the end of the chapter Wendy admits to Patty that she has come to see Modeus as a father figure, something she lacked for most of her life. It's especially notable when you realize she finally has a parental figure that won't have to leave for one reason or another.
  • Ch. 4 Be Careful What You Wish For
    • Gajeel and Juvia go to reunite with their old guildmate Totomaru, inviting out for a drink. The latter is clearly happy to see his old friends again.
      • Panther-Lily also attends, eager to meet Gajeel and Juvia's friend. When Totomaru compares him to Happy, Gajeel brags that the black Exceed is much more badass, having managed to obtain a Devil Arm, showing great pride in his companions skill.
      • Totomaru mentions that most of Phantom Lord moved onto other guilds or occupations after it was disbanded, with only Jose, Aria and Sol holding a grudge against Fairy Tail for the whole thing. It's nice to her that all of Gajeel and Juvia's old companions old companions are doing well.
      • Totomaru himself is quite happy as a magic instructor, finding great joy in helping the next generation improve their magic, even assisting those who don't use fire magic. The mans clearly found his calling and his old friends are happy for him.
    • Throughout the chapter, the members of Fairy Tail repeatedly assure Kelly that he is not responsible for his friends death. They make sure to expose the masked demon to prove his innocence and later return his sisters ring (which was their only payment) to assure him that she felt no resentment over the whole thing. The latter is especially poignant when you recall how strapped for cash they are at the moment, meaning they were willing to give up the pay they badly needed just to ease a poor mans guilt.
    • The implication at the end that Lynn loved her brother enough to try and help him from beyond the grave.
  • Ch. 5 Poker King and Rock Queen
    • After hearing that Elena was possessed by a demon, Mira and the rest of the team present (including Lady and Gajeel) immediately suggest she try to exorcise it from her body. Tim is immensely grateful.
    • Elena and Tim reuniting when the former is freed from the Sirens influence, the latter being overjoyed that his friend is finally safe and sound. Mira even remarks the two look cute together.
    • Minor, but Santa Clause note  acts as a Graceful Loser, sincerely congratulating Amanda for beating him. Sadly, he dies seconds later.
    • While Wendy is distraught that they couldn't prevent any deaths at the game, Modeus assures her that in killing King they ensured he will have no more victims. He also gives her some advice about dealing with failure, acting every bit the father she sees him as.
    Order of the Sword
  • Ch. 6 Father's Memento
    • Happy mentions that Natsu can't bring himself to take down the memorial he made for Lisanna. A touched Lisanna gives him a kiss on the cheek.
    • As part of his Establishing Character Moment Nero does his best to arrive on time for the church service, despite caring little for it, to keep his promise to Kyrie, even fighting off a group of demons that tried to stop him. He then gives her a lovely necklace and wishes her happy birthday, to her delight. It's clear that the two have just as wholesome a relationship here as they do in the games.
    • Unlike in canon, instead of trying to leave once everyone started praying, Nero stays throughout the entire, one-hour long church service despite how boring it is for him, likely doing it for Kyrie's sake or maybe as an apology for being late.
    • Michelle mentioned that Jude passed away peacefully, looking forward to seeing his wife again. He also heard about Dante joining Fairy Tail and was happy that his nephew was able to watch over and protect his daughter.
    • Dante reveals that between losing his family and starting up his business, he was found and essentially adopted by Nell Goldstein, an acquaintance of his fathers. She put a roof over his head, taught him how to fight and even made his trademark pistols. Even after dying she left him the money he used to start up his business, showing how much the two cared for one another. Dante also makes it clear that he's moved on from her death, and loves the pistols she made for him because 'they keep her close'.
    • In general, how welcoming Dante and Lucy are to Michelle as part of their family.
      • When she realizes the poor girl has nowhere to go, Lucy immediately offers to let her stay in her apartment. To give her a steady income she suggests she start working at Fairy Tail, with the rest of the guild being very supportive and welcoming, despite their own precarious financial situation.
      • Everyone being accommodating when Michelle asks to join them on a job. The only one who objects is Lucy, and that is more out of concern for her safety.
      • In general, everyone notes just how happy Dante is, being much more cheerful and smiling more often. After so many years of his sole blood relative being a power-obsessed Social Darwinist that's repeatedly tried to kill him, he finally has not one but two more, and has already formed a positive relationship with both. The poor guy finally caught a break.
    • While watching the three cousins bond, Trish fondly remembers Capricorns words about how Eva would have loved to have a daughter like her. Though she doesn't join the trio, it's clear that she is definitely a part of their family.
  • Ch. 7 Turbulent Showdown! Dante vs. Laxus!
    • Lisanna sincerely thanks Laxus for his help on Tenrou Island, to which he is grateful for.
    • When Fairy Tail organizes a small festival around Dante and Laxus' upcoming fight, a large number of citizens from Magnolia join in, showing the guild is clearly still in good terms with the residents. Nice to see that Fairy Tail still has some respect despite it's current reputation.
    • As part of the festival, Mira and Gajeel give a music performance together, showing surprising rapport. And the song they play? One of Elena Hudson's, with the two even announcing her as 'the Rock Queen' before starting the song', showing plenty of respect to the woman they helped and her music.
    • Over the course of their fight, Dante and Laxus develop mutual respect for one another and clearly enjoy being able to have a friendly match with an equal. Even when Makarov cuts the match short the two amicably agree to call it a draw, showing good sportsmanship on both sides.
  • Ch. 8 The Order of the Sword
    • Despite his usual demeanor, Nero is respectful to the members of Fairy Tail, being the only member of the Order present not to insult the over their guilds current reputation. When the guild is reluctant to simply hand over the clock piece he agrees to their request to talk things out, even promising to contact their superiors to help settle the whole matter. When things devolve into because of Mary Hughes he makes it clear he's just following orders and is clearly pissed at his teammates for escalating things.
      • When Mary Hughes takes Patty hostage, he outright decks her and makes sure to let the young girl run back to her friends before getting the other Order members to retreat. He then loudly chews out Mary for stooping so low, with the other members agreeing, showing that while they may not be the nicest bunch they are not evil either.
      • While he still takes the clock piece, he does express remorse after hearing that it is the final memento Lucy's deceased father left her, apologizing before leaving with the item in tow.
    • While angered at her recklessness, Lucy and Trish are the first to chase after a fleeing Michelle, and even praise her bravery (though they do chastise her lack of intelligence).
    • Credo refers to Erza by her title of 'Titania' and shows a clear respect for her abilities in spite of her guilds current reputation.
    • Brief, but Capricorn is clearly happy to see Trish again, with the She-Devil reciprocating the sentiment, showing the two have bonded since Tenrou Island. Even after Mary Hughes uses her magic to make Trish impale him, he assures her she is in no way to blame before returning to the Celestial Spirit realm. For her part, Trish is PISSED and proceeds to shock Mary Hughes unconscious.
    • Dante's first though after getting out from under the boulder? To worry about Lucy.
  • Ch. 9 Key of the Starry Heavens
    • While searching the Heartfilia mansion, Dante, Lucy, Trish and Michelle discover an album titled 'Eva and Layla, the Best Sisters Ever!', that is filled with pictures of Eva and Layla over the years, even including photo's of them meeting Sparda for the first time, and Eva's wedding with him (with Layla and Jude in the background). The two sisters were very close all throughout their lives, and the final picture showed all four in-laws posing with a baby Dante and Vergil, tugging on the heartstrings.
      • After the above, Trish has a heart-to-heart with Lucy, finally bringing up Capricorns words on her being like the daughter Eva would have had, and asks if she can be a part of her family as well. Lucy instantly agrees, agreeing with Capricorns assessment, and says she's already like a sister to her, with the two sharing a hug.
      • While he needed a minute after seeing the album, Dante likewise opens up a bit to Michelle, openly stating how happy he is to have more blood-related family. He makes it clear he absolutely loves Fairy Tail, but after a lifetime of losing blood family in one way or another, having not one but two cousin's is something that makes him happier than he's been in a long time. Michelle is moved to tears, promising to be the best cousin she can be, to which he assures her that simply being there is enough, and the two share a hug.
    • Lucy resolving to one day buy back the Heartfilia mansion just so they can all have a full family reunion, including Vergil.
    • Dan mentions that Kyrie and Nero raised Samuel after hatching him from and egg, similar to what Natsu and Lisanna did for Happy. Despite his attitude, Samuel clearly cares a great deal about them both, calling Kyrie 'his favorite' and expressing faith in Nero's abilities.
  • Ch. 10 Journey for the Clock
    • Kyrie is a fountain of these, agreeing to Nero's request to look into some of the Order's secrets despite both their doubts, assuring him that she trusts his instincts. She also requests that he look after all their comrades, even Mary, who she states is good deep down.
    • When Nero confronts Credo about his doubts about their mission, he brings up how he was forced to take Lucy's final memento from her father, outright stating he doesn't want to harm good people, and asks Credo to talk to him as a friend rather than the Supreme General of the Order. For his part, Credo does tell Nero that the Clock in question is a doomsday device, assuring him that their mission is for a just cause, showing that though the two do not always see eye-to-eye, they do care for one another.
    • Realizing that they need a helping friend, Erza reached out to her old friends, Wally, Sho and Milliana who all immediately agreed to help despite being part of different guilds. It's nice to see that they all kept in contact with each other and are as close as ever.
      • After hearing about the situation, Lyon accompanied Sho to help Gray's group, and despite his attitude, makes it clear he wants to help out his fellow apprentice.
    • Small, but after Happy feels dejected at bot helping much in their search for the ruins, Michelle offers him a fish. The two have formed a rather close friendship.
  • Ch. 11 Fairies, Demons, and Angels
    • Despite the two being enemies, Lucy tries to help out Coco when the latter falls down a hole. After being pulled down with her, she continues to be friendly towards the girl, asking if they can simply talk things out to avoid fighting further. While Coco rejects the offer, she does save Lucy from a death trap, and tries to get the Alto Angelo to leave her alone.
      • Upon discovering Coco was injured, Romeo and Michelle require little convincing to bandage her wounds, despite the girl being nothing but hostile to them before.
    • Throughout his fight with Erza, Credo has plenty of praise for her strength and determination, and even his remarks on surpassing her lack the condescending edge most would have in his situation, instead making it out to be a milestone for himself. While he has the upper hand through most of the fight he simply commends for lasting longer than any other opponent he's had, and accepts her request for a final exchange. Even after losing he simply says 'Well fought, Erza Scarlet'.
    • Cana apologizes for their team bringing Patty with them, lamenting a fight is no place for a magicless child. The latter refutes that she wanted to come, passionately saying that after everything Fairy Tail has done for her, she wants to help pay them back in whatever way she can. A touched Cana proudly calls her a true member of Fairy Tail.
    • After the two successfully defeat Dan, Lisanna gives Natsu a kiss (on the lips this time!), causing him to smile bashfully with a blush.
  • Ch. 12 Calculations and Faith
    • Nero being perfectly willing to talk things after the fight, with it being a test, and convincing Dan and Coco to do the same. For their part, Fairy Tail are willing to listen, showing there are no hard feelings.
    • Nero tells the others he asked Kyrie to investigate the Orders plans on Fortuna, calling her one of the most intelligent and resourceful people he knows. The guys just full of praise for his girlfriend.
    • Small, but Team Shadow Gear showing off good teamwork in the fight against the Sparda statue, being quite in synch despite not having fought together in years. Shows how close they all are.
    • Samuel was approached by the Exceeds from Extalia over the timeskip, and refused to join them, saying he see's the Order as his family, having been hatched and raised by Nero and Kyrie, and outright admits he see's Credo as an older brother. Despite his attitude its abundantly clear how much he cares for his allies.
    • After winning their fight, Panther-Lily admits that Samuel has potential, and that he looks forward to a rematch someday. Despite Samuels attitude getting on his nerves, he still remains amicable, even giving him some advice after their fight.
    • When Mary Hughes uses Mira's Satan Soul to attack his unconscious allies, Freed, not having time to construct a barrier, goes to shield them without a second thought. Upon seeing Mira awaken, he says he's glad she's alright, beofre collapsing with a smile on his face.
    • After Nero reveals that he has no idea who his parents were or how he is part demon, the members of Fairy Tail immediately offer to help him find out after the current crisis. When an incredulous Nero brings up how he took Lucy's memento from her father, she simply responds he was Just Following Orders, and was apologetic the whole time, making it clear there are no hard feelings between them. Making it better, when asked why they offered to help, they all simply say it's what Fairy Tail does, something all present Order members appreciate.
  • Ch. 13 The Holy War Begins
    • Despite having just formed a truce, both Fairy Tail and Nero's group look out for one another during Byro and Kanaloa's assault, with the former even calling him out on not making sure his allies wouldn't be caught in the crossfire. For their part, the Order members are grateful, and attempt to talk Byro down, to no avail.
    • Despite being a Knight Templar, Byro greatly cares for Kanaloa, referring to him as 'a warrior, not a pet', showing that he views his companion as an equal. Even after after he is defeated, the monk gently places the shrunken octopus on his person, sincerely telling him he performed admirably.
    • Despite having just met her (in snake form to boot), Makarov immediately went to undo Kinana's curse in the flashback, despite admitting afterwards that doing so was quite difficult even for him. When she has amnesia, he quickly offered to let her stay at Fairy Tail, showing no hesitation at helping a complete stranger.
    • Fairy Tails entire speech about how they wish to help people with their powers, not simply make money. While they do admit to taking jobs for financial reasons, they all consider it more of a bonus (albeit a necessary one) and actually refuse to do any that conflicts with their morals, Dante remembering Angelina and Brad when bringing up this point. Also doubles as an awesome moment, as it completely refutes Byro's description of them as mere 'guild rats' out for money.
  • Ch. 14 The Neo Oracion Seis
    • Wally loathes the Oracion Seis primarily for how they helped his brother turn to a darker path. While it's unclear if the two have spoken over the timeskip, it's touching that they still care for one another's wellbeing to such an extent after all this time.
    • Even in the midst of his Unstoppable Rage at Gilvers return, Dante makes sure to save Coco from the demons attack, before telling her and Nero to hang back. While it's mostly to settle things one-on-one with Gilver, part of it could be read as concern for his new allies.
    • While the Magic Council is mostly irritated to hear that the members of Fairy Tail from Tenrou Island have returned, Org is actually happy to hear about it. After hearing about their encounter with the Neo Oracion Seis, he cheerfully says he expected them to be in the middle of things, happy that the heroes are active once more.
    • After their brutal beatdown at the hands of the Neo Oracion Seis, Fairy Tail awake in the infirmary of Blue Pegasus, the other guild having picked them up from the desert in the aftermath and tended to their wounds. When thanking Ichiya, the man merely responds they would have done the same, making it clear that the two guilds are still on friendly terms, even after seven years.
    • While Trish and Michelle venting their respective feelings of inadequacy (over losing the Devil Sword Sparda and being unable to help in the fight respectively) is a tearjerker, in the same scene both reassure the other. Trish tells Michelle that lacking powers does not make her useless, and praises her bravery and resourcefulness for being able to help in spite of lacking combat skills. For her part, Michelle admits she admires Trish's strength, not just in combat prowess, but in her bravery for turning against Mundus and helping her friend.
      • Related to above, one of the main reasons Trish feels bad about losing the Devil Sword Sparda was because it was a gift Dante gave her, feeling she let him down by losing it.
      • When the above prove unable to lift eithers mood, Dante and Lucy come to reassure both of their friends that they have no reason to be ashamed. Dante tells Trish that he has never once regretted giving her his fathers sword, showing how much he trusts his sister-in-arms. Likewise, Lucy tells Michelle that they can still bounce back from this, and she is not to blame for the current crisis, prompting a teary-eyed Michelle to start a group hug. The four really do act like a family in this moment.
    • Sparda's recoding unveils the origins of the original Order of the Sword, consisting of a large group of mages, warriors and other people who sought to follow his example to protect the weak and defend the world from the forces of darkness. While initially reluctant, Sparda was eventually convinced to lead them, giving him an entire army of allies, all as devoted to the noble ideals as he was. Even after being disbanded, he mentions most of the members continued to fight the good fight in one way or another, clearly proud of all his old allies.
  • Ch. 15 Divide and Conquer
    • Gloria deduces that Cobra hasn't given up on the world like the rest of the Neo Oracion Seis, having something that just stops him from crossing the line. His internal narration makes it clear that the destruction of world is only his second preferred option, with his greatest desire being to reunite with his companion Cubellios. Scumbag or no, it's clear how much she means to him.
    • While it's sadly misplaced, Mary's complete faith in Sanctus is rather touching especially it's source. The woman clearly views him as a father figure, apparently having been rescued from terrible circumstances by him.
    • When the other Order members present point out that they lack the numbers to face Sanctus and his allies, both Nero and Samuel say they can simply contact Fairy Tail for help, the guild having left a good impression on both of them. Nero explicitly refers to them as 'good people', with the latter agreeing, even admitting there's one smart member amongst them. That is especially high praise given its source.
    • After Samuel outlines their plan (and says he came up with it while they were speaking), an impressed Kyrie pats him on the head and praises his intelligence, using 'Sammy' as an Affectionate Nickname. The typically smug Exceed is bashful, and modestly says he had a good role model.
  • Ch. 16 A New Devil Awakens
    • Lahar tracking down Doranbolt, both to ask for his friends help, and to tell him that the members of Fairy Tail that were on Tenrou Island are alive and well to ease his conscience.
    • While it quickly devolves into an argument, Gajeel promises to watch Lady's back in battle and to give her some tips as a fellow metal-based slayer mage. Say what you will about his attitude, the guy clearly cares for his friends.
    • Trish is still upset at losing the Sparda sword, both because of its power and because Dante entrusted it to her. Fortunately, Wendy is there to remind her that she is still one of their best and that one mistake does not define her worth so long as she recovers, something that manages to lift the she-devils spirits. Even Bickslow found it touching.
    • Samuel sits down for a friendly chat and lunch with the Fairy Tail Exceeds, and agrees to join them in their mission. The four fly onwards as a team.
      • Samuel defends Mary's attitude, revealing her Dark and Troubled Past to explain her actions, showing that despite his attitude, he does care greatly for his comrades. Despite their understandable grudge, the other Exceeds are sympathetic upon hearing this.
    • When Nero starts to have a breakdown after learning about his origins, Kyrie and Coco are quick to comfort him, saying demon or human, artificial or not, he's still the same kind man they love (romantically and platonically respectively) and grew up with.
    • As the three are leaving, they decide to let Dante know about Spardas corpse, and give Fairy Tail a chance to give the man a proper burial.
    • When told that Nero has been 'possessed' by a demon that is influencing Kyrie and Coco, Mary immediately vows to save all three of them. Despite butting heads often, she really does care for Nero.
  • Ch. 17 The Black Wings of the Caduto
    • Despite having every reason to hate him, the Fairy Tail Exceeds have mixed feelings more than anything upon seeing Mest again, being willing to work with him and Lahar to stop the Neo Oracien Seis. For their part Mest and Lahar are clearly remorseful over the council using Etherion on Tenrou Island.
      • In the same scene, Samuel affirming he wishes to help take down the Neo Oracien Seis and the members of the Order of the Sword that are complicit in their crimes. However he requests that the council only arrest those who are guilty, something Lahar easily agrees to. Despite his Broken Pedestal for the Orders leadership Samuel still believes in their mission to help people and wishes to restore that as their primary goal.
    • Cobra is pissed at Fairy Tail not for beating him before, but because he lost his companion snake Cubellios in the aftermath. The first thing he asks Erza and Modeus is if they know where she is and being disappointed when they don't.
    • Trish uses her Devil Trigger for the first time since Tenrou Island to protect Wendy from Erigor. The two later manage to pull of a Unison Raid, showing how close they are.
    • Samuel and Panther-Lily growing closer over the course of the chapter, with the latter affirming his companions character and morality whenever anyone questions his intentions as a member of the Order of the Sword and having enough faith in his strategic abilities to follow his instructions without question when fighting Racer. Throughout the chapter the two even refer to one another as 'brother'.
    • While he kills Katja, Racer makes sure to sever her nerves so she can at least die painlessly, showing he isn't completely heartless.
    • While everyone is clearly mourning at Katja's death, Carla gives a Rousing Speech, reminding them that while they may not save everyone, they can still make sure to save as many as they can to ensure that those who perished did not do so in vain, a sentiment echoed by Panther-Lily and Lahar, who encourage Samuel and Mest to take this to heart.
    • When Credo and Mary ambush Coco, Kyrie and Nero, they make sure to subdue the three with as little injury as possible, mainly using the latter's wand to move the girls out of the way before attempting to exorcise Nero. Even when the latter doesn't work and the situation devolves, Mary of all people still tries to get everyone to just talk it out.
      • For his part, Credo is clearly reluctant to fight the three, shedding a Single Tear when they refuse to surrender peacefully. Throughout his fight with Nero he gives his protege several chances to surrender, mentioning it was he who taught Nero how to fight.
      • Both Mary and Credo listen to Kyrie and Coco's reveal of what the Order has been doing with Sparda's corpse and even the latter is horrified, indicating Sanctus knew he would object to such depravity and had to keep him in the dark. Upon hearing Nero's origin, he looks at his young friend in sympathy.
    • While in shock at all the revelations and Kyrie's kidnapping, Coco quickly rallies Credo to get Mary some much needed medical assistance.
  • Ch. 18 Despair of the Savior
    • When Cobra attempts to rattle Modeus by bringing up how he killed Baul, the apprentice of Sparda calmly explains he's long since come to terms with his brothers death. While he does wish his brother could have lived, even suggesting he would have enjoyed being part of Fairy Tail, he chooses to honor his memory by moving forward and living happily, which is what Baul would have wanted. Even at their worst, the two brothers deeply cared for one another.
    • Bickslow and Trish consoling Wendy after having killed Erigor, reassuring her that it is sometimes necessary. They go on to say it doesn't make her a bad person for doing it, nor is she weak for being upset by it. Trish in particular returns the favor from two chapters ago, managing to lift the poor girls spirits.
    • Lahar makes good on his promise to help Zentopia protect the Celestial Spirit mages, quickly issuing a nationwide alert to all royal guards. In all nearby regions, the soldiers response time is excellent, showing great willingness to help the people. Sadly, it doesn't end well for them.
    • Despite betraying them, Imitatia shows no joy in attacking Lucy and Dante, and still refers to them as 'sister' and 'cousin' respectively, hinting that the friendship she shared with them was genuine.
  • Ch. 19 Chaos Unleashed
    • Despite 'Michelle' betraying them, Lucy still attempts to reach out to her, caring for her 'cousin'. Imitatia's unusually emotional response, as well as the fact that Sanctus asked her to leave the room before revealing the personal parts of his plan further suggests that the friendships Imitatia formed were in fact genuine.
    • When Sanctus makes a disparaging remark on Trish's status as a 'puppet', Lucy quickly and firmly fires back that she'd trust the woman with her life, and that she is far more deserving of wielding the Devil Sword Sparda than he is.
    • Nero and Natsu's impressive teamwork against Berial, with the two forming mutual respect over the course of the fight. Nero is particlarly impressed by Natsu's combat prowess. Seems Dante's not the only son of Sparda the son of Igneel gets along with!
      • Berial mentions that Sparda and Igneel had perfect teamwork in the past, despite their wildly different sizes and abilities.
    • The members of the Order of the Sword who weren't a part of the conspiracy join the meeting at the Fairy Tail guildhall, and no one makes a big deal about them being there. Said Order members also express sympathy upon hearing about Imitatia, showing remarkable empathy for people who were their enemies just a short time ago.
    • Upon Fairy Tails request, Blue Pegasus was apparently willing to lend them the Christina Advanced to aid their assault on Fortuna. Keep in mind, Fairy Tail has been a joke for the past seven years, but the older members of all the other guilds still clearly have confidence in their abilities, leaving them to deal with the source of the problem.
    • Coco tearfully apologizes to Dante for everything the Order has done, as well as her own part in escalating things between them and Fairy Tail. Despite barely having a lid on his anger, Dante kindly pats her on the head, assuring her that he harbors no ill will towards her or her friends.
  • Ch 20 Storming the Hellgates
    • Lahar keeps his promise to Samuel, explicitly ordering the Rune Knights to leave the citizens of Fortuna alone and asserts to Gran Doma that he will not put innocent people in danger. A watching Doranbolt is impressed and proud of his friend, and after hearing Fairy Tail has arrived, admits he expected them to with a fond smile.
    • Despite previously being enemies, the members of Fairy Tail and the Order of the Sword show great teamwork at each of the Hellgates, watching each others backs and pulling off several Combination Attack's.
    • Mary's Big Damn Heroes in Dante's groups fight against Guttman has her cement her Heel–Face Turn, and offering to Hold the Line for her allies. She also admits to Nero that he is better for Kyrie than her, and wishes them luck saving Lucy and Kyrie.
    • After seeing Racers Villainous Breakdown in the aftermath of his defeat (hallucinating the Zeref cultists that enslaved him as a child), rather than beat him down, Mirajane gently tells him he doesn't need to keep running. This actually gets through to the Neo Oracion Seis member, who is relieved to finally just stop, and even crys Tears of Joy.
    • During the fight with Kraken, Modeus grows enraged when the demon targets Wendy. Later on, the two manage to finish him off with their respective ultimate attacks, further showcasing their bond. Everyone present also praises Wendy for how far she's come.
    • Nero Taking the Bullet for Dante to prevent him from being absorbed by the Savior. The other members of Fairy Tail also toss him the Devil Arms they collected at the Hellgates to give him a better fighting chance.
    • Credo's Heel–Face Turn, realsing the error of his ways, and arriving to rescue his friends and family. While he is killed by Sanctus soon after, his subsequent words cement that he was A Father to His Men to his core, caring greatly about all of his subordinates.
  • Ch 21 The Battle of Fortuna
    • Part of Imitatia's motivations are revealed, wanted Dante, Lucy and herself to be joined on the Saviors core, proving she does care for her family, if in a twisted way.
    • When Wendy's attempts to heal him fail, Credo manages to give the heroes the information they need to have a fighting chance, with is last words requesting that they save Kyrie and Nero. Erza affirms their vow to her Worthy Opponent, and after he fades away everyone present bows their heads in respect.
    • Lahar and the Rune Knights stay true to their word, prioritising the safety of civilians and creating shelters from the demon hordes.
    • Byro acknowledges his part in allowing things to escalate so far, admitting Dante calling him a 'blind old dog' was spot on. Nevertheless, he resolves to make things right, leading the Order of the Sword in defense of Fortuna and its citizens.
    • Despite the latters insistence to the contrary, Wendy continues to heal Mary, saying she'll always help those who need it. When the woman brings up everything she's done to Fairy Tail Carla reveals that Samuel told them about her Dark and Troubled Past, and the group are clearly sympathetic more than anything.
    • From the same scene as above, Guttman Kubrick is sincerely remorseful to realise he was on the wrong side, revealing that he was actually inspired by the legend of Sparda and wanted to follow his example in helping people. Mary then assures him that it's not too late for either of them to make amends, forming a connection 'one asshole to another'.
    • Small, but during the Battle of Fortuna, Samuel and Panther-Lily have a friendly competition over who can kill more demons, referring to each other as 'brother' and 'Sammy' respectively. The two have grown close enough to be considered Bash Brothers.
    • Just as it looks like the Savior is giong to finish off Makarov, enter Laxus, Mirajane, and the Thunder Legion, saving him in a nick of time. The former tells his grandfather to get some rest and let them handle, which the guildmaster agrees, clearly proud of his grandson.
Laxus: You should take five old man. You should let us handle it. And no, I'm not doing this to get back into the guild. I'm just a guy who's looking to help his grandpa and beat down some monsters. Got a problem with it?
Makarov: (chuckles) Not at all... go kick his ass my boy.
    • Small, but when Midnight dismisses Nero as a threat, Dante remarks that he is seriously underestimating the guy. Has plenty f respect for his recently discovered half brother.
  • Ch. 22 Between Heaven and Hell
    • As the battle of Fortuna rages on, a few of these are shared amongst the heroes and their allies.
      • Panther-Lily and Samuel facing off against dozens of demons back-to-back, with the latter saying they'll they'll keep fighting, even if they are losing the battle, a departure from his logical attitude that leads to the following exchange.
Panther-Lily: Not a whole lot to that plan there Sammy.
Samuel: For once, I say screw logic! My home and the rest of the world are depending on us to hold this line! So long as I live, I won't let a single demon escape this island!
Panther-Lily: (smirks) Spoken like a true warrior. Well, if we're going out, we're gonna take as many of them with us!
      • The Archbishop of Zentopia has recovered, and his first words are an apology for allowing events to unfold as they did, before rallying everyone together to defend their home.
      • When Byro starts expressing regret at his role in blindly following Sanctus' orders, Kanaloa and Gildarts appear to back him up, the latter encouraging him to simply do what he can in the moment. Byro tackles the demon horde with renewed vigor.
    • As part of Gray and Gajeels "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Agnus, it's Gajeel who remarks that Humans Are Special.
    • Gloria boasts of being a 'superior' clone to Trish, not only in terms of power but for being content to be a puppet and commiting heinous acts just because, in contrast to Trish who rebelled against her master. In response Trish laughs in her face before giving the below speech, outlining just how much happier she's been since she rebelled against Mundus. Also counts as awesome.
Trish: You say you're content with being a puppet? That I'm a defect just because I abandoned my mission? You think just because I walked away from Mundus I don't have a purpose anymore? You couldn't be more wrong. I've abandoned my mission but gained so much more because of that! I have friends now, a family even! I'm a part of something that's far more fulfilling than anything my old master could offer me! I may not have been born like the rest of them, but I am living with them! And that's the difference between you and me! I'm alive, you're just a souless mannequin.
      • Their teamwork during the fight, and their banter afterwards, also displays the friendship between Trish and Lady, who display excellent teamwork. After Trish absorbs power from Gloria, Lady jokingly asks how she's supposed to keep up. Trish simply remarks that Lady kept up with her before gaining magic, and that this simply makes them even.
    • Throughout their fight with the Neo Oracion Seis member, Erza and Modeus continuously try to talk Cobra down. They insist that he he is better than his guildmates, despite his protests, even noting he hasn't undergone the Ascension ceremony, which Modeus theorises is so that 'Cubellios' will recognise him. While he doesn't accept any of it, it's nice to see how much consideration the two give even to any enemy.
    • When Masayoshi enters the Savior, all of the Order members telepathically shout encouragement to Nero, telling him to break free. Despite not knowing him as long, Natsu joins in, saying that Kyrie needs him, and catches the guy as he breaks out of the core.
  • Ch 23 The True Saviors
    • Laxus using Fairy Law on the Savior, while reflecting on his Character Development, with his motivation being to protect his friends. Everyone watches the attack in awe, especially Makarov.
    • After defeating Cobra, both Erza and Modeus express hope that he'll be able to meet the person he lost again.
    • Relating to the above, part of the reason he lost was because Cobra was distracted after finally hearing Cubellios' voice (Kinana in the distance). For her part, after seeing him falling, she rushes towards him, calling him by his given name of 'Erik', meaning the two may reunite at last.
    • The chapter expands on Imitatia's motives, and confirms she wants the best for Dante and Lucy, wishing to use the power of the Infinity Clock to create a world where they can all live happily together. When Sanctus callously reveals it was all a lie on his part, her first act is to abandon the fight and attempt to free Lucy and Kyrie, tearfully apologising all the while.
      • From the same scene, Sanctus 'disposing' of her is enough to enrage Natsu to the point that it triggers his Lightning-Flame Dragon Mode for the first time in the sequel. Likewise, Nero is pissed off enough to enter his Devil Trigger, both having enormous empathy for someone whi tried to kill them.
    • With the last of her magic, Imitatia/Michelle has a telepathic conversation with both of her 'cousins' and Kyrie, revealing her full backstory. There are quite a few of these.
      • We get a flashback of a younger Lucy introducing her 'sister' Michelle to a younger Dante and Vergil. Michelle mentions that all of them playong together is her fondest memory.
      • We get another one from Jude as he puts away Michelle back when she was still a doll, in what is implied to be the aftermath of the tragedy that befell Dante and Vergils family, and Lucy's mothers death.
Jude: I know Sparda said we had to keep our family separated due to the kind of enemies he's made... but those boys of his were also my family. I should hace been there, even if I couldn't save their parents I could have brought them into this home; so that Lucy could still have her cousins to play with, and you'd be there with them. But... if those boys are anything like their father... then it is my hope they can survive to find their way to her. And perhaps... when they've all grown up... and they've overcome their parents' deaths... and you can not only be Lucy's little sister again, but even the cousin for Dante and Vergil as well.
      • Part of Sanctus' promise to Imitatia was that she could create a world where she, Lucy, Dante and Vergil could all live together as a family, complete with their parents. She also really did work with Jude like she said, who by all accounts was a Benevolent Boss through and through, to the point she felt awful manipulating him. On his deathbed, he asks she give the clock piece to Dante and Lucy, confident they can deal with it and never doubting that they are alive. He is also relieved to hear Vergil is a member of a guild, even if he hasn't responded to his messages. His final words are that she can finally be Lucy's sister and the boys cousin again, indicating he was aware of her origins the entire time, even calling her life a miracle of magic.
      • Dante, Lucy and Kyrie all forgive Michelles, the latter even giving her a Cooldown Hug and hoping she finds peace. All of them resolve to enver forget her.
      • Likewise, Michelle apologises for everything she's done, especially to Kyrie, whom she assures that Natsu and Nero are close to freeing. Her final request is that they tell Natsu and the others that her time in Fairy Tail was the happiest of her life, meaning she really did care for everyone there, not just Dante and Lucy.
    • Small, but after their beatdown of Sanctus, Natsu remarks that he and Nero make a good team, to which Nero agrees.
    • During his fight with Midnight, Dante says that it's thanks to everyone he's met that he's come this far. He also expresses some sympathy for Midnight, noting that he's never really had the chance to form his own identity.
    • A watching Zeref is happy for the protagonists, praising them for accomplishing something that both he and Sparda failed to do with the Infinity Clock's destruction, clearly proud of his old friends guild and son.
    • Everyone reuniting at the end of the chapter (while Lucy holds onto Michelles doll) and Dante, Natsu and Nero share a three-way high-five in celebration.
  • Ch. 24 Toward the Future
    • After years of being dissected and violated by Agnus for Sanctus’ vile goals, Sparda’s body is finally recovered by the heroes and given a proper funeral, cremated to prevent anyone else from ever desecrating it again. Everybody in Fairy Tail and the Order of the Sword attends the funeral, along with Laxus, Jean-Luce and his colleagues, Kurenai, Millianna, Lyon, Sho, and Wally.
      • Porlyusica is even among the large group at the funeral. Despite her low opinion on humans and usual cranky self, she truly did respect the Dark Knight.
    • In the aftermath of the Infinity Clock crisis, statues of Sparda are erected all across Fiore at where the churches the Neo Oracion Seis destroyed are being rebuilt, in honor and respect of him. In addition, a plague is also placed on the statues, engraved with the names of those who fell in the war. Credo and Michelle’s names are also engraved as well, showing that despite being enemies for most of the arc, they ultimately redeemed themselves in the end.
      • Special mention to the latter for being given the name Michelle Heartfilia.
      • The above also means that the many Celestial Wizards connected by the body link magic can finally have their story revealed to the public, ensuring their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
    • It’s revealed that Kurenai, Mermaid Heel’s guildmaster and the Number One Wizard Saint, is not only a demon that defected from Mundus’ forces with Sparda, but was close enough with Sparda to be considered sworn siblings. And like Sparda, she also befriended the dragons, being particularly close to Grandeeney.
      • Kurenai also reveals that she knew Sparda helped form Fairy Tail, which inspired her to form Mermaid Heel.
      • When asked by Dante, she reveals she tried to search for him and Vergil after their parents demise, only relenting after she found he was taken in by Nell Goldstein, and searching fruitlessly for Vergil for years.
    • Due to their part in helping save Fiore, Fairy Tail manages to regain some of their lost popularity with the public. In particular, the Archbishop of Zentopia gives high praise to the guild for their heroic actions, and the people of Fortuna cheering with him.
    • Following Sparda’s funeral, Byro and the members of the Order apologize to Makarov and Fairy Tail for their foolishness, with the guild forgiving them.
Makarov: There is no room for remorse, just progress. Let’s move beyond the crisis. We may have been on opposite sides before, but you each came to our aid in our hour of need. So, why don’t we start anew?
Byro: You are as gracious as you are wise. (shakes hands with Makarov)
    • A flashback shows Kinana/Cubellios finally reuniting with Erik/Cobra after a long time, with Erik accepting her being a part of Fairy Tail. When Lahar and Doranbolt then arrive to arrest Erik, Kinana tries to prevent it from happening. After being asked if he knows her, Erik pretends he doesn’t so Kinana won’t be arrested herself. Though the reunion doesn’t last long, Erik departs happy knowing that Cubellios is still alive and he finally heard her voice again.
    • Byro is named Credo’s successor as the Order of the Sword’s supreme general. Though Byro feels he doesn’t deserve it given his role in Sanctus’ schemes in inability to see how wrong it was, the Archbishop tells him otherwise.
The Archbishop: Although I was being manipulated, it was my own weakness of heart that allowed such a calamity to be unleashed. We both have much to repent for. So I ask, will you take this burden alongside me? Will you help me in making the Order of the Sword into the force for light and hope that it always was intended for?
Byro: I will. You are far too kind, your grace.
      • In the same flashback, the Archbishop even offers Guttman membership in the Order as atonement. The cube demon accepts the offer with Tears of Joy, happy that he has a chance to protect the world like Sparda.
    • Lily and Samuel have a sparring match during Fairy Tail and the Order’s celebration party, with the former offering advice to the latter.
Lily: Nobody ever stops learning, that’s the point of living. There’s a benefit to losing or making mistakes, even with calculations. You use those losses to learn and improve, that’s the true mark of a warrior in my opinion.
    • Kyrie comforts Mary when the latter breaks down and feels guilty over her actions throughout the arc, with Dante, Lucy, and Nero even comforting and forgiving for what she did. Mary is completely touched and surprised at how easily they could forgive her, and reconciles with Nero over her jealously concerning Kyrie.
    • When Nero still feels unsure about himself and his purpose in life after learning about how he was born, Dante gives him a pep talk that reassures him.
Dante: Look kid, you were made in a petri-dish from my old man’s body, there’s no sugar coating it. But whatever ‘purpose’ you were made for doesn’t matter. You live, breath, and think of your own will, that gives you the right to choose what kind of life you want to live. I may not have known you your whole life, but I’ve seen enough to know that you’re not a copy of my old man, you’re not his ‘clone’, you’re his son. Yeah, you got some similarities, but more than a few differences though. You don’t have his subtlety, for instance. You do have his heart though. You were willing to go to hell and back for your girl and the other people you care for, even going out of the way to help complete strangers. So, you wanna live a life that’s different from my old man’s, or one that you can call your own: take care of the people you love, or don’t. It’s your choice, your life.
      • From the same scene, despite not being blood related, Lucy and Nero decide to call one another cousins.
    • At the end of the celebration, Nero and Kyrie choose to join Fairy Tail, taking Dante’s advice about choosing their own path and seeing the guild as a way to help them with that. Byro and the Order support their decision to leave them, with Coco giving Nero a hug, even calling him big brother, and Kyrie assuring Mary that there is a girl out there for her.
    • Dante is revealed to be carrying Michelle's doll form with him, mentally promising that he and Lucy will never forget her, or the many others that helped them make it this far.
    • Upon deciding to appoint Gildarts as the new guildmaster, Makarov decides he should be shown Lumen Histoire. In a change from canon, he also brings Macao along, saying the man deserves to know given his efforts as guildmaster for the past seven years, and assuring him he did well holding them together. Nice to see his colleague get the respect he deserves.
    • In a way, Vergil being unsurprised at his brother and Fairy Tail making a return, showing faith in their ability to survive the disaster that befell them. He even corrects Sting when the latter calls them weak, showing he still considers them worthy of respect, a rarity for him.
    Grand Magic Games
  • Ch 25 The Grand Magic Games
    • Nero and Kyrie have already integrated well into the guild, the former joining in on a brawl, and the latter being taken on a shopping trip by the girls to give her some more casual clothes. They've barely been there a week and it already feels like home to them.
    • Despite everyones reluctance to harm Porlyusica (hence why they usually run from her), Natsu is ready to throw hands when he thinks she made Wendy cry.
    • Porlyusica reveals she is originally from Edolas, and decided to stay in Earthland after being awestruck by its beauty. She also reveals she spoke with her draconic Earthland counterpart, and despite not knowing where she is at present, gifts Wendy with a book of spells the Sky Dragon left her, lifting the young girls spirits. Her smile as she departs makes it clear shes rather fond of the girl.
    • When inducting Gildarts as the next guildmaster, Makraov formally acknowledges and thanks Macao for his actions as the fourth, with everyone present assuring him he did well to keep the guild active for seven years.
    • When most of Fairy Tail express doubt at winning the Grand Magic Games, Patty confidently states they've pulled off miracles before, showing how much she admires them all.
    • In a change from canon, Gildarts promotion to guildmaster sticks, finally letting Makarov retire. Cana is proud to see her father take up the mantle, and it's all but stated part of the reason he's sticking around is to make up for lost time with his daughter, wanting to be a better father.
      • His first order of business? Reinstating Laxus as a member, to the joy of everyone else. Laxus himself is obviously touched.
      • Second? To get Fairy Tail to reclaim their spot as the number one guild, ordering to participate in the Grand Magic Games, and shows complete faith they will be able to succeed.
  • Ch 26 Grinding Down, Levelling Up
    • As part of their training, Levy brings Kyrie and Nero to the ancient library to help her learn more about her Arc of Seraph, which Kyrie appreciates. A big part of the young womans motivation is to become stronger in order to help Nero.
    • Makarov and Gildarts take Cana on a training trip to better master Fairy Glitter, with the new guildmaster happy to spend time with his daughter, doting on her during the trip. Later, the two even share a warm moment watching the stars together, with her leaning on her fathers shoulder.
    • As Capricorn is training with Lucy, he mentions this brings back fond memories of training with her mother, and takes joy in seeing much Lucy takes after her.
    • Lucy presents Trish with an envelope containing all her ID's, birth certificate, etc., that Morrison made, with one change: the name reads Trish Heartfilia! After the recent crisis, she talked to Morrison to get her named changed, so the two are now legally family. Trish is moved to tears and hugs her new sister, complete with a mutual Platonic Declaration of Love.
Lucy: We're family Trish. Both as Heartfilias, and as members of Fairy Tail.
      Trish: I love you too...!
    • After Patty admits to feeling like an outsider or a hindrance to Fairy Tail, Wendy and Carla assure her that the emotional support she offers to the members makes her a valuable member in everyones eyes. This is echoed by Modeus the next day, who tells Patty her mere presence can help with Wendy and Romeo's training.
      • From the first scene, Wendy declaring herself and Patty 'practically sisters' is incredibly touching, made even moreso by the fact that she sports a grin reminiscent Natsu. This shows her admiration to her honrary big brother, especially given how he expressed the same sentiment to her so long ago.
      • As she's comforting Patty, Wendy is reminded of Sheeree, and mentally wishes her Childhood Friend good luck.
    • After everyone splits up for group training, Trish and Lady take Lucy under their wing, encouraging her status as a fledgling devil hunter, by giving her constructive criticism.
    • Dante immediately selects Erza as his sparring partner, and both the spar and the accompanying banter shows how highly the two regard each others abilities, with Dante commending her on her ability to sword fight using her feet, and her use of Armadura Diabla, showing no doubt that he can survive. Nice to see the two friends/rivals interact like this.
  • Ch 27 Old Friends
    • Amidst the other guilds preparing for the Grand Magic Games, Sho and Milliana are clearly looking forward to seeing Erza again, confident their honorary sister will be a challenging opponent.
    • While Natsu undergoes the incredibly painful Second Origin treatment, Lucy, Lisanna and Happy all stay by his side throughout, constantly providing support.
    • Crime Sorciere in general, with all of the members having turned their lives around, and see each other as a Family of Choice, similar to Fairy Tail. All of them give the impression that they greatly enjoy helping people, with members like Meredy, Sheeree, and Ultear having become visibly happier. They even part on good terms with Fairy Tail.
    • Wendy crying Tears of Joy upon recognising Sheeree's scent, and the latter wastes no time embracing her and Carla, happy to see her old friends again. When the three talk, the first thing she does is get Wendy to admit that what happened to her was not her fault, and assures that even if they're not in the same guild, they will always be sisters, and generally coming across as a Cool Big Sis. She also extends the sentiment to Carla, admitting she sees the Exceed as family as well.
      • She later thanks Natsu for being Wendy's big brother, with him returning the sentiment, saying any friend of Wendys is a friend of his.
      • Spotting Romeo's crush on Wendy, she gives him her blessing, albeit after warning him not to hurt her.
    • Dante and Sorano (who has long since abandoned her alias of 'Angel') have a reunion, in which he commends her for how far she's come, and apologises for not keeping his promise to look after her sister. In response, she assures him he was in no way at fault, and thanks him for his part in her Heel–Face Turn, giving a glowing speech regarding his strength of character and th eimpact he has on others.
Sorano: I can't say anything for Vergil, but let me say this about you at least... Even if you aren't as strong, you are ten times the man that he is. Before I was nothing more than a sociopath that hurt people, all because I just wanted to disappear with everything else, because I was tired of the pain this world put me through. But all I did in the end was cause more pain, so I wasn't any different from the people that hurt me. After Fairy Tail took me and the rest of the Oracion Seis down, I lost all hope. But then, with what happened with Devil Hand... you risking your life to save me.... a former criminal who hurt your friends... Youbcan't even begin to imagine the amount of hope you gave me. You made me feel hopeful again. And that's what I hope to do with Crime Sorciere. Even if I am a former criminal, I'm going to do everything I can to spread that same kind of hope to others. You inspired me, and made me want to be a better person... the kind of person that maybe... my little sister can be proud of. (bows) Thank you, from the very bottom of my heart I thank you, Dante Redgrave, Son of Sparda.
    • Jellal and Erza have their reunion, with the latter having regained his memories and the immense guilt at recalling all the horrible things he has done, apologising to his Childhood Friend. Despite this, and admitting to nearly being Driven to Suicide, he makes it clear he has no intention of dying before atoning by dealing with Zeref and Mundus. In response, Erza gives him a Big Damn Kiss and promises that he can depend on her for support on the battlefield and emotionally, while also assuring him that she's willing to wait however long it takes before he's ready for a relationship, something he greatly appreciates.
  • Ch 28 Labyrinth Above the Blooming Capital
    • The origin of Dante's Coyote-A shotgun in this continuity, being a gift that Morrison personally made for him.
    • When Lucy and Wendy express doubt at being chosen for the team, the others assure them they're more than fot for the job.
    • After Fairy Tail arrive in Crocus they all decide to explore, Lucy and Lisanna go with Natsu, Wendy invites Romeo (along with Patty and Carla), and Dante inviting Lady, to which she accepts with a grin.
    • Trish checking up on Erza, asking if she's alright after meeting Jellal, and offers to listen if she ever needs to talk. Erza is grateful for the consideration.
    • When Lyon gets into an argument with Gray, and suggests the wager that if Lamia Scale wins, Juvia joins their guild, the latter refuses. Specifically, he chastises Lyon for not even asking her what she wants to do, saying the only person who dictates what she will do is Juvia, showing respect for his friend. She is clearly touched.
    • Doranbolts reunion with Wendy has him formally apologise to Wendy for his actions on Tenrou Island. For her part, she says she doesn't hold a grudge, instead thanking him for his help both on Tenrou Island and the Infinity Clock crisis, even assuring him that he is a good person.
    • Despite learning that Vergil always knew of their status as cousins, and his previous attacks on Fairy Tail. Lucy is still willing to bury the hatchet, earnestly asking him if he wants to be a family again. Vergil actually seems to consider it for a moment before declining, though in his own way, wishes her luck.
Vergil: We've both made our choices, your life is yours to live, as is mine. And while they may intersect at certain points, the paths we have chosen lead in two different directions. Live your life Lucy. And I'll live mine.
    • When Fairy Tail deduces the missing Patty, Romeo, Wendy and Carla must be in the palace, the guards require little convincing to let them through, concerned for the children.
    • As soon as Wendy has been found, Modeus is immediately at her side, showing obvious concern for her wellbeing.
  • Ch 29 Let The Games Begin!
    • Despite her general disdain for humanity, Porlyusica is willing to enter Croccus (at a time when the population is at its largest) to heal the injured members of Fairy Tail, and even gives encouragement to Wendy after she had her confidence shaken.
    • Amidst the team announcements for the Games, there are several reunions and what seem to be the beginning of new friendships.
      • Bruni, one of the Wizards Saints and who is acting as a commentator, showing support for Fairy Tail, citing the return of their prominent members and their recent actions in the Infinity Clock crisis, full of support despite the crowds booing. On a similar note, a full third of the crowd is actually cheering for them, showing they are better regarded than in canon.
      • Erza is happy to reunite with Sho, Milliana, and Wally, with them reciprocating. A watching Jellal vows to make amends with his old friends as soon as his mission is over.
      • Lucia respectfully greets Dante, introducing herself as a fellow devil hunter while praising his abilities, The two quickly develop a friendly rivalry.
      • We get on from Vergil of all people. When Mirajane and Elfman confront him over how he used Adrian during the Devil Hand incident, he appears genuinely remorseful over what happened to the poor boy. His resopnse implies that the only reason he offered to Mercy Kill him instead of save him was because he lacked the means to do so at the time. He also accepts Elfmans request to deck him in the face to make the siblings feel better, something that gives a watching Lucy and Sparda hope.
    • Like in canon, Mavis' spirit appears to cheer on Fairy Tail in the Games, and this time she is accompanied by Sparda himself, who warmly greets his old apprentice Modeus and gives an encouraging wave to his niece. Despite some mixed feelings, Dante is happy to have his old man cheering him one, giving him a salute, and clearly having his morale raised.
    • After seeing Nullpudding insult Ur to get a rise out of Gray, a nearby Wally nails the Raven Tail member with a hit, angry on his friends behalf.
    • When Rufus talks about the downside of fighting with allies, specifically, how they can be taken hostage or spill information, Gray is unconcerned, matter-of-factly noting Juvia isn't one to get captured or betray any of her comrades. Shows a lot of faith in his comrade.
    • Despite being enraged at Raven Tail for hurting Wendy, Sheeree is content to have Natsuget payback for 'their sister'. When asked, she flat out says that Wendy considering him a brother is enough for her to do the same, with both looking out for their little sister.
  • Ch. 30 The Dance of Fairies, Ravens, and Devils
    • As Lucy breaks down over Raven Tail's cheating costing her a victory over Flare, feeling that she brought shame to Fairy Tail, Sparda is the first to comfort her, assuring her that even in defeat, her display against Flare throughout the match cannot be ignored. Dante and Natsu soon join him in lifting Lucy's spirits.
Sparda: You were amazing out there. You didn't even need to use your strongest assets and you still would have claimed victory. The fault lies with those cowards, not with you. You've proven that seven year time gap means absolutely nothing. Your mother, your father, your aunt, they would all be so proud of you... every bit as proud as I am. You brought pride and honor to both your family and the guild. (Looks up to Dante and Natsu) Wouldn't you two agree?
Dante: Couldn't have put it any better myself, old man. Dry those tears, cous. We still got four days, that's plenty of time.
Natsu: Time for an epic comeback. Zero points? Sounds good to me.
Lucy: Yeah... I'm fired up now...!
      • Also notable is Lucy's performance ends up impressing Vergil so much that he actually gives a small smile. When Lucy loses, not only does he realize Raven Tail cheated, but he is enraged and would eliminate them himself were he allowed. He shuts up Sting with a Death Glare when the White Dragon Slayer is prepared to insult Fairy Tail yet again, implying he actually does care for his cousin.
    • The glimpse we got of the relationship between Ren and Sherry is sweet, with her encouraging him during his match with Arana, and him admitting his affection for her, in his own Tsundere fashion.
    • As Nero heads for his match with Jura, he silently wishes that he was fighting someone for Raven Tail so he can get some payback for everything they did so far to his guildmates. Despite not being with the guild for long, he's already considered Fairy Tail his new home and family.
    • Prior to Nero's match with Jura, Sparda reveals that he is aware of Nero's origins and blood ties to him. He also assures Fairy Tail that while he holds Sanctus and Agnus in contempt with what they did to his corpse, he doesn't hold any hard feelings towards Nero or those close to him like Kyrie.
Sparda: Despite his origins, Nero has proven to be a strong, caring, and noble individual. I understand it's under the most unusual of circumstances... but that young man down there is my son. Artificially bred or not, he's a living being and has every right to choose what path he wishes, and he chose to be a part of Fairy Tail. He has my full support, I promise.
    • And the end of their match, which ends in a draw, Nero and Jura gain respect for each other, hoping for a rematch later that won't end in a draw.
    • After Nero leaves the arena following his match with Jura, the rest of Team B are there with Kyrie to congratulate him on his performance. Even Sparda is there to tell Nero that he did the guild proud, with the young man becoming visibly happier at receiving a compliment from his father.
  • Ch. 31 Origins
    • Despite some initial mixed feelings, Natsu is happy upon confirming that Bruni is Igneels Edolas counterpart, inviting him to join Fairy Tail for some drinks. The two immediately hit it off, sharing massive grins as they celebrate, the Dragon Slayer to have familiar company even if it's not his Igneel. A watching Lisanna happily notes it's like he found a long lost family member, happy on his behalf that after all this time spent looking for his father, he finally found something to lift his spirits.
    • After telling Dante about the Rebellions power, Sparda affirms that it and Yamato are now Dante amd Vergils weapons, remarking that his sons may one day grow to surpass him and shows complete faith in their potential. The whole scene is a touching moment between a father and son who haven't had a chance to talk in over a decade, and capped off by the lovely exchange below.
Sparda: The Rebellion is yours now, son. Wield it well, just as you always have.
Dante: Thanks Dad. I'll do my best.
    • The fact that Anu decided that gods should stay out of the affairs of mortals, which the majority obey. According to Sparda, the god most involved in the mortal world is the Celestial Spirit King, who is largely benevolent, and the most involved the rest ever were was when they stopped Pluto's plan to Take Over the World. It's refreshing to see that Jerkass Gods are in the minority, and generally have humanities best interests at heart.
    • It's shown why Zeref holds Sparda in such high regard. Sparda was Zeref's old mentor who pulled him out of his deal with Mundus, and did his best to help Zeref realize the joy of life, eventually succeeding. After Zeref was cursed Sparda was, for awhile, his only friend who dedicated himself to trying to find a way to remove the Curse of Contradiction.
    • After its revealed that Sparda had a hand in the creation of the Etherious, Gray - whose parents and mentor were killed by one of them - declares that its not Sparda's fault for what happened and chooses not to hate him or even Zeref. Its an incredible display of maturity and strength of character.
    • Its turns out that Mavis and Zera were both adopted by Sparda after he saved them from Blue Skull and Red Lizard'd war, meaning that Fairy Tail's first master is in fact Dante, Nero and Vergil's older sister, and Lucy's adoptive cousin.
      • The fact that Zera managed to live thanks to Sparda, and was also a full-fledged founding member of Fairy Tail, with Makarov even identifying her as such, is also very touching as well.
    • After their drinking contest, Dante and Bacchus hit it off, promising to share a drink later as the latter is leaving.
    • When Vergil suggests to King Toma that they make the final battle before the Battle Royale a 3-on-3 instead of the normal 2-on-2, Vergil suggests that the team that goes up against him, Sting, and Rouge is Dante, Natsu, and either Gray or Lucy, showing that even though Gray and Lucy are not demons or Dragon Slayers, Vergil still considers them strong enough to hold their own against Sabertooth's Twin Dragons. High praise coming from him, and it shows how much his cousin impressed him with her first match.
  • Ch 32 The Will of a Man
    • Erza informing Crime Sorciere of everything Sparda told Fairy Tail in the previous chapter, and they are all sympathetic at hearing Zeref's Dark and Troubled Past. Sheeree even suggests offering him aid in his battle against Mundus, with the others only vetoing that out of wariness of him having succumbed to Sanity Slippage over the years.
    • During the 'Chariots' race, Sting questions why Natsu and Gajeel are pushing themselves so to win much despite their severe motion sickness and Fairy Tail having cared very little about what people thought of them prior to the timeskip. Natsu responds that they're not trying to win for themselves, but rather, for all the members they left behind during the seven years, giving an impassioned speech about how much it meant to the Tenrou Island members upon their return.
Natsu: The reason we're here... is for out friends! The ones who waited for us...! For all the years we were gone...! Who fought through the pain... And the heartache...! They were humiliated... But even so... They stayed strong! And that kept our guild together! We're doing this for all of them! And we're gonna make sure that everyone here knows... THE FAIRY TAIL GUILD NEVER GAVE UP! SO, THERE'S NO WAY I'M GONNA GIVE UP NOW!
      • Natsu's speech greatly moves all the mentioned members, who outright cry Tears of Joy over realising how much their comrades appreciate what they did, and their dedication to paying them back.
      • Likewise, this touches the audience members as well, who cease their mockery of Fairy Tail and begin openly cheering for them from then on, impressed with their loyalty and comradery.
      • Mavis proudly notes that Natsu displays many of the best traits her guild encourages, and those found in humanity as a whole. Likewise, a proud Sparda happily notes how proud Igneel and Zeref would be, wishing his old friends could see this, and glad that something good came of the tragedy that happened all those centuries ago.
      • After the race, Lucy and Lisanna support a weasy Natsu, while Levy helps an equally weasy Gajeel stand.
    • Everyone is happy to see Romeo and Patty recovered. Macao tearfully hugs his son, and Asuka cheerfully calls him 'Big Brother Romeo'. Awww.
    • Despite what Flare pulled during their match, Lucy's anger is overtaken by worry when she sees the girl covered in bruises, and is sympathetic when she sees Alexi threaten her.
    • During Elfmans match, Lisanna continues to express her faith that her brother can win this. Surprisingly, so does Evergreen, never showing a hint of doubt that he can win, even when Lisanna starts to worry.
      • During the fight, after Bacchus makes the bet to have Elfmans sisters 'keep him company' should he win, a disgusted Wally promises to talk him out of it should it come to that, noting he should treat women with more respect.
      • Right before he collapses, Bacchus calls Elfman 'a real man', expressing sincere respect for his opponent despite having lost.
  • Ch 33 Battle of the Femme Fatales
    • The chapter opens with everyone congratulation Elfman on his victory against Bacchus, with Dante and Erza in particular apologise for having doubted him. He truly earned everyone's respect that day.
    • Gildarts showing some positive Character Development by refusing to join most of the men in drooling over Jenny and Mirajane's 'pose-off'. This, plus his protective attitude makes it clear he's taking his role as a father quite seriously, wanting to set a good example for his daughter, something she appreciates.
    • Part of the reason Mirajane agreed to a pose-off against Jenny was that she admits she'd prefer to avoid fights whenever possible, reaffirming how much of a Nice Girl she is.
    • The wedding dress section of the 'battle' has quite a few of these, with many of the men accompanying the women while wearing suits.
      • Laxus accompanies Mirajane, to her appreciation, and Makarov cries both at the insult she sent his way, and in pride over his grandson.
      • Carla accepts Happy's offer to accompany her, and is visibly happy for Wendy after the girl accepts Romeo's nervous offer. Seems she's warming up to the possibility of those two getting together.
      • Alzack and Bisca reminisce on their actual wedding day as they hold their daughter between them, little Asuka happily proclaiming her mommy and daddy are married. Such a sweet little family.
      • Modeus and Panther-Lily accompanying Erza and Trish respectively, wanting to keep their friends company. Both girls appreciate this, and are glad to have their friendship.
      • A blushing Nero and Kyrie both bashfully complement each others appearance, and admit they wouldn't mind doing this for real someday.
      • Dante approaches Lady and compliments her for her choosing a black wedding dress, saying it suits her. She accepts his proposal of accompanying her in his red suit (him noting red and black go quite well together) and blushes when he responds to her comments about not taking this too seriously by remarking they can fit in dates before the big day.
      • Lisanna bringing Lucy with her to partner up with Natsu, who is uncharacteristically bashful at the sight of them and shyly compliments both of them on their appearance. He then accepts their offer, the three going forth arm in arm, with him internally admitting the whole thing makes him feel strange, but happy. A watching Dante is also happy on their behalf.
    • While watching Yukino's fight, Sorano expresses visible pride at her sisters skill as a Celestial Wizard, happy to see how she turned out. After they deduce Celestial Wizards are likely the target of the one behind the strange magic they've been sensing, the others have to talk her down from guarding Yukino herself, showing how much her sister means to her.
      • Small, but the same scene has Sheeree commiserating with her as a fellow big sister.
    • Yukino is a Nice Girl through and through, defending Sting when Orga throws shade at him for losing in the 'Chariots' event and displaying sincere respect for Kagura's abilities. Even her dedication to winning is more a case of wanting to do her guild proud rather than indulging in the arrogance as many of her guildmates do. And while it's a massive Tearjerker, her last words to her guildmates before leaving is to thank Sabertooth for her time with them.
    • Gildarts notices Erza is visibly more cheerful being able to work with and talk to Jellal again, despite the circumstances. Similarly, after the meeting, Sho and Milliana invite to a night out to catch up, which she gladly accepts.
    • Bacchus formally apologises to Mirajane and Lisanna for his actions with minimal prompting from Wally, recognising what he did was over the line. He even clarifies his actual intentions were just to have the two join him for a few drinks rather than anything sleazy, having only phrased it as such to try and get a better fight out of Elfman. He still admits he deserved it when Natsu decks him in the face, and wishes Elfman luck in his recovery, having gained immense respect for the man and hopes to have a rematch. He and Fairy Tail end the night on amicable terms, with them good naturedly reciprocating Quatro Cerberus' Catchphrase.
    • Mermaid Heel show off how tight knit they are this chapter, with all of them treating Kagura's victory as a sure thing, and heaping praising on her for her performance during the celebration. Lucia in particular warmly regards her as her top rival, despite being regarded as the strongest member of their guild.
    • Sparda approaching Kurenai while commiserating over the joys and pains of raising children, warmly greeting his old friend. For her part, she is moved to tears at being able to speak with someone she long thought dead.
    • While Yukino is still excommunicated from the Sabertooth Guild, the pain of it is softened by Vergil, of all people. While in canon, Yukino was forced to strip all the way down in front of the entire guild, here she only gets as far as removing her coat and shirt before Vergil comes in and covers her with his jacket. While Vergil cannot control who Jiemma accepts or expels from the guild, he is able to prevent Jiemma from further humiliating Yukino, though she is still forced to remove her own guildmark. And, before Yukino leaves, Vergil assures her that she was a fine addition to the guild, despite Jiemma's words. Despite Vergil's many other villainous qualities and actions, he still has his code of honor and is not unnecessarily cruel.
  • Ch 34 Crimson Rampage
    • Rogue giving Yukino one million jewel to help her find her feet as he and Frosch bid her farewell, clearly not agreeing with the decision to have her kicked out. When Frosch expresses worry over being kicked out as well for not being strong enough, he assures his Exceed companion that he can grow stronger, and even if he can't he will always by by his side. Nice to see Vergil's not the only member with a bit of decency.
    • While meeting with Ivan, Gajeel is sorely tempted to beat up Sid when he senses the demon for what he did to Wendy. He only holds off in order to keep his cover intact.
    • Erza's talk with her old friends has everyone quickly settle into some good natured banter, clearly enjoying one another's company. While things take a sad turn when they reveal they still hold a (justified) grudge against Jellal, it is mitigated by the fact that Erza notes they can get a chance to reconcile once he finishes his mission. And of the three, Wally advises the others not to obsess over revenge, wanting his friends to move on and avoid giving the man power over their actions.
      • From the same scene, we also learn that they're all acquainted with Kagura, having met her and learned of her status as Simons sister. While they were sad to inform her about her brothers passing, a sense of comradery was evidently born, and all of them possess profound respect for her abilities.
    • Sparda and Kurenai's reunion has the old friends happily catching up, with him complimenting her on how well she raised her guild. He is also pleasantly surprised to hear she actually adopted Kagura, having found the girl in the aftermath of the Zeref cultists attack on her village and gave her a home. The two fondly reminisce over his own adoption of two lost children, and exchange some good natured ribbing over the skills of the ones competing in the Games. Even beyond that, the two prove comfortable enough to confide their serious concerns with one another, her regarding Kagura and Milliana's desire for revenge against Jellal, and him his feelings of failure regarding Vergil, with both providing comfort and advice to the other. What's more, by the end he shows he trusts her enough to reveal Jellal's presence in Crocus, apparently confident she will use this information wisely.
      • Kurenai's account of watching Kagura grow up is full of pride, especially since the little girl requested training to become a force for good, just like her dear mother. The fact that she entrusted the young woman with a Devil Arm is proof enough of her faith in Kagura's abilities, made all the sweeter by Kurenai mentioning that she made sure her daughter was surrounded by friends and family in Mermaid Heel. There's also a bit of an implication that the latter may have been done in large part to provide such a source of emotional warmth to the young woman.
    • Despite Yukino offering her the final two Golden Zodiac Keys, and her sincere plea that the Fairy Tail member would be better suited to draw out their full potential, Lucy declines before and after Yukino makes her argument. The fact that Yukino sought to give them to someone who is both strong and kind speaks volumes to her character, as she clearly wants the best for her spirits, something Lucy notes makes her more than deserving of them. The two part on good terms, Lucy offering help if she ever needs it and Yukino hoping they can meet again.
    • The most heartfelt moment of the chapter, Sheeree intercepts Yukino with Sorano in tow, and the two sisters reunite for the first time on over a decade. After confirming it's really her, Yukino practically tackles her older sister, Tears of Joy in her eyes, with Sorano not being far behind, both overjoyed at being able to embrace one another and expressing how much they missed one another.
      • In the aftermath, Natsu acknowledges that he was unfairly hostile to her during her meeting with Lucy, having judged her based off her affiliation with Sabertooth. He apologises, saying she's a kind person, and is happy she got to reunite with her sister.
      • Dante also apologises for being unable to keep his promise to Sorano to look out for her, even if he acknowledges it wasn't really his fault, and promises to help her out if she ever needs it.
      • After Yukino tearfully confesses to being kicked out and what Jiemma almost made her do, Sorano becomes enraged on her behalf, angrily walking towards Sabertooth to obliterate them for what they did to her little sister. Sheeree barely manages to talk her out of it, and instead Dante steps up to do it in her stead, feeling just as outraged. Despite their own anger, the others agree to accompany Yukino back to their hotel to ensure her safety, with Sorano informing her of the conspiracy targeting Celestial Wizards.
    • Small, but Erza and Gray commiserate over their respective love lives, him regarding the complications between her and Jellal, her the whole situation with Juvia and Lyon. When asked what he thinks of her he says that while she's crazy, he appreciates how she's always reliable when he needs help. Erza also advises him to give her a straight answer, looking out for her female guildmate.
    • In a weird way, Dante and Vergil being on the same page regarding the formers beef with Jiemma, the elder Son of Sparda even preventing anyone from interfering with his brothers challenge to the man. He outright agrees with Dante that kicking out Yukino was a waste, saying she had more potential than a lot of Sabertooth's current members, as well as his criticisms about Jiemma refusing to put his money where his mouth is. When Minerva interferes, he expresses annoyance and warns her against making an enemy of Dante, displaying respect for his brothers abilities and resolve.
      • Before Dante leaves, he asks why Vergil even joined Sabertooth, who gives him an honest answer. Dante is unsurprised by him seeing them as a means to an end, but advises that he leave, not wanting to see his honour tarnished by associating with them, implying that he still respects that trait of his and displaying a form of concern for his brothers wellbeing. Seems there's still some hope, however minor, of a reconciliation between the Sons of Sparda after all.
    • Fairy Tail offering to let Yukino board with them for the remainder of the Games, and even join the guild itself if she wants. When she appears overwhelmed, Lucy assures her that she can hold off any final decisions for however she wishes. Even when Arcadios comes to take her into protective custody the next day, with orders from the princess herself no less, Lucy makes sure to give her a means to alert them if she's ever in danger. For her part, Yukino is incredibly touched that they'd all go this far for her despite having just met.
    • A grumpy Doranbolt grows visibly happier upon seeing how lively Wendy, Romeo, Patty, Happy, and Carla are, happy to see them in high spirits and lifting his mood.
  • Ch 35 There's No Stopping Us!
    • The complete faith many of her friends and guildmates have in Erza's ability to defeat all one hundred monsters in Pandemonium, treating her victory as a sure thing. When some start to worry as she struggles against the S-Class monster, Jellal steps forth and reminds them of her indomitable will, giving glowing praise to his old friend.
Jellal: Take a good look at her eyes. Despite her injuries and the predicament that she's in, that look does not waver. That's not the look of someone who's desperate or afraid, that's the look of a warrior who knows exactly what she's doing. She'll win this. Her strength and will know no bounds.
    • After Erza's victory, several of her guildmates are ecstatic on her behalf, with Wendy and Lucy crying Tears of Joy, and Natsu and Gray earnestly calling it the coolest thing they've seen. Several others likewise praised her performance, especially her ChildhoodFriends, who are incredibly proud of their 'big sister', complete with Milliana giving her a hug. As the entire stadium erupts into cheers for her and Fairy Tail in general, it's clear the ridicule they faced in the first day is already a distant memory, Mato even referring to Erza's performance as 'the return of the strongest guild of a hundred years'.
    • Gildarts fatherly pride at seeing Cana win the magic power contest with Fairy Glitter, as well as her declaration that they will win the whole contest. Likewise, Mavis and Sparda warmly state they chose well when giving her the spell.
    • Risley and Wally's match has both be nothing but friendly towards one another, even as they unleash some of their stronger attacks, in part due to their mutual friendship with Milliana. After Risley takes the win, she offers him a hand getting up while complimenting his abilities. Wally gratefully accepts and warmly wishes for a rematch in the future.
      • Milliana is torn over who to root for between her Childhood Friend/honorary brother and guildmate, and is likewise unsure how to feel when Risley won. Lucia quickly assures her that her friend did well, and that she should feel proud over how much he improved, something which visibly cheers Milliana up.
      • Likewise, Erza is proud of seeing how far her old friend has come, saying as such to Wendy.
  • Ch 36 Thunder and Sky
    • When Sapphire shows her true colours Laxus takes little convincing to accept her help, and even offers to let her have her pound of flesh in the fight against Ivan in spite of having more personal history with him. She appreciates the offer, and the two enjoy knocking down the Smug Snake.
    • Despite everything Ivan did, Makarov was still willing to give his son the benefit of the doubt, telling Gildarts he plans to leave him alone if he doesn't start anything, especially in light of him not doing anything to Fairy Tail in the seven years their more powerful members were gone.
    • Sparda and Mavis praising Makarov for having formed Fairy Tail into the loving environment it is today, as well as Macao for holding it together through seven years of hardship. The third and fourth masters are both honored by the praise.
    • While Sapphire was The Mole, throughout the chapter it's made clear her friendship with Flare was genuine, advising the girl to throw their 'fight' so she can get her away from Ivan, and in the aftermath makes sure that Kurenai and the Rune Knights treat her well. For her part, Flare considered Sapphire to be her only actual friend in Raven Tail, and despite the initial hurt after her 'betrayal', still trusts her enough to listen to her instructions.
    • Throughout Wendy's fight with Sherria, Modeus has zero doubts that his student can win, even assuring Carla of the fact when it looks like Sherria has her on the backfoot. Wendys magnificent performance has him practically beaming in pride at how far she's come.
      • Likewise, the sheer amount of pride so many people have for Wendy on her victory, the Fairy Tail members whooping at the girls victory, Sheeree being on the verge of Tears of Joy, and even outsiders like Jura and Vergil expressing admiration at how much she's grown since they first met her. The latter even gives a smile.
      • Related to the above, Sparda is proud to see just how far his old apprentice has come, having reached the point he took on a student of his own and taught her what she needed to become such an amazing warrior.
    • Just how friendly Sherria and Wendy are towards one another during their match, the former remarking this is the most fun she's had in a while and openly complimenting her opponents skill and intelligence. Even after being defeated she congratulates her opponent on her victory and graciously accepts Wendy's offer to help her up. She asks if Wendy wants to be friends, which the Dragon Slayer happily accepts, raising her opponents arm in respect. After two matches filled with such hostility on the third day, it's nice to see some good sportsmanship between competitors.
    • In spite of Ivan's parting words instilling some doubt in them, Gajeel and Laxus require minimal reassurance from Makarov and Sparda to assuage their concerns about Lumen Histoire, showing how much the two trust the senior guild members.
    • As Mavis starts to cry over the havoc Hades could wreck after choosing him as the second guild master, Sparda quickly assures his daughter that her decision was a good one, since even leaving out that Mundus is to blame for Prechts fall from grace, the man in question chose Makarov as his successor, who did a marvelous job building Fairy Tail into what it is today.
  • Ch 37 Bared Fangs
    • Turns out, Sapphire is actually a big fan of Natsu's, and has been since he defeated Bora in Hargeon (the day he met Lucy). She earnestly says she's been following his adventures since then and admires how he's defeated strong opponents and protected the innocent, outright calling him a hero. The others note how sweet it is, especially since Natsu is usually subject to either complaints about his Destructive Savior tendencies, or the butt of his friends jokes.
      • For his part, Natsu assures her her prior actions are water under the bridge and invites her to join Fairy Tail in their celebration, which she eagerly accepts.
    • During his explanation about the origins of God Slayer magic, Sparda states that he was able to disable the nasty side effects by appealing directly to the gods themselves (including Anu) who limited how powerful users could grow in order to prevent any backlash on their bodies. Rather refreshing that the gods are considerate enough of humanity as a whole that they seemingly go out of their way to protect them simply after being asked, completely averting Jerkass Gods.
    • Kurenai informs Mermaid Heel, Sho and Wally of both Crime Sorciere's presence and their joint mission with Fairy Tail, ensuring both her daughters and Erza's old friends are kept in the loop. She also requests to speak to the latter group in private, and implores them to let go of vengeance in the most tactful manner possible, stating that they don't need to forgive Jellal but rather move past the worst of the emotions involved. The thing that really gets through to them is reminding them of what Simon would have wanted, and asking they avoid hurting themselves for his and Erza's sake, which gets through to everyone sans Kagura.
      • While Kagura wont let go of her vendetta she does state she wont interfere with Crime Sorciere's and Fairy Tails mission. Kagura may hate Jellal but she refuses to put innocent people at risk to satisfy her grudge showing a clear aversion to Revenge Before Reason, and that at her heart she is a good and heroic person.
    • The next day, Erza's friends confront her regarding Jellal's presence and how she can willingly work with him. While she admits to still having feelings for him, Erza states the primary reason is her personal belief that everyone deserves a chance to redeem themselves, citing both the many former enemies that are a part of Fairy Tail at the moment as well as her friends giving her a second chance. This moves them enough that they are at least willing to hear out their former friend out, and serves as a reminder of just how highly Erza regards human nature in general.
    • During Lucy's "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Minerva, she states that their differences aside, she still respects Vergil and his drive to become stronger, especially since he does so with a strict code of honour in tact. Vergil himself is touched by the sentiment, which is only outshone by worry for his cousin at Minerva's reaction.
    • When Minerva goes apeshit on Lucy for forcing them into a tie, it takes a split second for Dante to intervene and stop her from attacking further, followed by Natsu, who displays a level of rage similar to when Cragnar hurt Lisanna and proceeds to pummel her into the ground.
      • Vergil intervening when Minerva tries to get a cheap shot in at Natsu as he's walking away, before slamming her head into the ground and promising the officials he'll ensure there are no more violations. It's clear despite his stoic demeanor that he is pissed at what she did to his cousin, and Word of God even stated that he fully intended to intervene but was beaten to the punch by Dante and Natsu.
    • When Lucy starts berating herself over her 'failure' in the Naval Battle event, Sparda stops that line of thought immediately, pointing out she recognized she was outmatched and made the best play she could in the situation. This, plus everyone else returning her Keys and whips on top of offering encouragement helps ease her mind.
    • The fact that Makarov describes the final Fairy Tail team as one that 'embodies the spirit of their guild' and includes Laxus and Gajeel shows how much the two have grown since they first joined.
  • Ch 38 Dogs and Pegasi - Lamia and Mermaids
    • While it's Played for Laughs, just how fast Ichiya and Nichiya bonded when they first met, going from strangers to best friends within minutes of meeting one another. The two are full of compliments for one another's abilities, with Ichiya displaying pride at Nichiya's entry to Blue Pegasus and performance in the Games, while Nichiya joins in on his counterparts usual posing.
    • When Lucy starts to doubt her ability to look after the half of the Perfect Amulet, Wendy, Kyrie and Sparda all reassure her that she is more than worthy of the gift her cousin gave her. The scene also serves as a great reminder of how much Dante trusts his cousin in entrusting the last gift his mother gave him to her.
    • When Sho manages to get one over on Kagura, Erza expresses pride in her honorary brother, and even when he loses is happy to see how much he's grown. Likewise, Kagura commends him for incapacitating her (however briefly) and apologises for underestimating him.
    • Despite his stated apathy towards Lyons performance in Lamia Scale's battle against Mermaid Heel, when Grays old friend is outnumbered three to one and is on the verge of giving up, he vocally encourages Lyon to keep fighting, and is even disappointed when he loses. Shows that despite their bickering the foster brothers do care greatly for one another.
    • Natsu admits to Lucy that despite her hopes of reconciling with Vergil, he can't find it in himself to forgive her cousin. She assures him she understands, both of them accepting the others opinions and wishing each other luck. Before he leaves, she gives him a kiss on the cheek.
    • After seeing Lucy in the infirmary, Dante gives her Michelle's doll form to help keep her company. Nice to see the two still remember their cousin/little sister.
    • As Dante, Natsu, and Gajeel make their way to the arena, several of their guildmates and Sparda wish them luck in the upcoming battle, even assuring them that win or lose, they know the trio will make them proud. Sparda in particular tells that in addition to his own pride in his son, Igneel and Metalicana would be greatly proud of Natsu and Gajeel, something that visibly lifts their moods.
    • Before the fight begins, Dante and Vergil have a brief talk the younger brother passing on Lucy's greetings as well as defending his decision to give her his half of the Perfect Amulet. Surprisingly, Vergil acknowledges Dante's assessment that Lucy can look after it, and the point that if she can't, the rest of Fairy Tail can help her, showing he's come to acknowledge the guilds strength in unity. Vergil also confirms that he has kept his half of the Perfect Amulet on him for all these years as well, implied to be for sentimental value just like Dante.
  • Ch 39 Devils and Dragons
    • Throughout the chapter, we get plenty of glimpses to show that despite their haughty demeanour, Sting and Lector are arguably just as close as the other Dragon Slayers and their Exceed companions. Case in point? Sting's entire motivation for wanting to defeat Natsu isn't some way to flaunt his his power and supposed superiority, it's to fulfill a promise he made to Lector before the timeskip. His first thought at his (apparent) victory is pride that he lived up to his friends expectations, showing despite having grown several levels in jerkass, he never lost sight of what drove him in the first place. For his part, Lector is happy for his friend, being on the verge of Tears of Joy.
      • The circumstances behind the promise were also rather touching, a young Lector having gotten into a fight with people who didn't believe Stings claims of having killed a dragon. Sting himself was unconcerned by their words, with Lector being more enraged on his behalf, wanting everyone to recognise Sting for the amazing person he sees him as. In response, Sting promises to defeat Salamander to prove to the whole world his best friend is right.
      • Offhand, but Lector mentions Sting basically raised him by himself. This, plus the flashback shows how much of a sweetheart he was when he was younger.
    • Rogue admitting he and Frosch plan to leave Sabertooth once the Games are over, and asks if Lector wants to come with them in light of his recent concern at Stings behaviour. He makes it clear he can take as long as he needs to decide and the offer will remain open indefinitely, showing plenty of tact and avoiding pressuring the young Exceed. He even gives him advice on talking with Sting about his concerns, which Lector sincerely thanks him for.
    • Dante and Vergil genuinely enjoy having a chance to fight one another again, sincerely praising each others improved abilities. Sparda notes that ever since they were children, the two have always enjoyed having bouts with one another, and as unorthodox as they were, the duels they've had well into adulthood have been some of the few times they've been able to bond. Even as they fight in the present, the twins get increasingly fired up, sporting visible grins, and Vergil of all people cracking one or two jokes!
    • Gildarts pride at seeing Natsu taking his advice to heart, both admitting and starting to move past his fear of Vergil.
    • Likewise, a watching Sparda grows increasingly prouder of the capable warriors both of his sons have become, visibly happy to have a chance to see how much they've grown, and reminiscing about their first play fights as children with a smile on his face.
    • As both sides of the fight gear up for the final exchange of blows, the rest of Fairy Tail all give their signature hand gesture as a show of support, kicked off by Lucy. The young woman vows to always watch over Natsu and both of her cousins, while a nearby Sparda joins in.
    • Vergils attitude throughout the chapter, being glad that his brother is just as formidable as he remembers and engages in banter with him at several points. Even in defeat, he sincerely (if mentally) commends his brother for his victory and gives a smile at Natsu's challenge at the end, calling him by his name instead of his title.
    • Minor, but amidst the rest of the guilds declarations to take down Fairy Tail on the final day, Nichiya remarks that it is an honour to face "the saviors of Extalia", showing the Exceeds still hold them in very high regard. Nice to see their good deeds are still felt to this day.
    • As a form of congratulations (and some wheedling from the man himself) Lady gives Dante a kiss on the cheek over his victory against Vergil, who happily calls it "one step closer".
    • If the soldier Yukino talked to is any indication, Arcadios is very well regarded by the rank and file, with the Squadron he commands simply calling him "Dio".
  • Ch 40 The Eclipse Project
    • Crime Sorciere watching over Future Lucy, with Sorano comforting her as she has a nightmare, apparently in the same way she used to with Yukino. The young woman is clearly happy to be able to play the role of a big sister again.
    • Overlaps with Tearjerker, but Future Lucy's nightmare has Dante and Natsu hold off a small army of dragons to ensure that their friends make it out okay. Dante in particular says his goodbyes with a sincere smile rather than his usual cocky one.
    • As Jiemma is dressing down him, Sting, and Rogue for their loss, Vergil says that Dante's creativity with his new abilities allowed him to close the seven year gap between them with a smile on his face, not at all sore over his first one on one loss to his brother. It's clear he's proud of his younger brother, and unafraid to show it.
    • Likewise, despite every prior appearance showing how much the two irritate him, he shows no hesitation at trying to help Sting and Lector, only failing to protect the latter from Jiemma's wrath due to Minerva's interference, and killing their violent guildmaster when he and Sting are engaged in combat. He is also surprisingly tactful to the Dragon Slayer in the midst of his shock Lectors apparent demise, quickly informing him that Minerva rescued him (albeit only to use him as a hostage) and makes it clear he would free the Exceed from Minerva were he able, even before Sting asks. Rather touching considering his conversation with Dante more or less stated he can barely stand his guildmates.
    • It goes horribly wrong, and almost leads to his death, but Lector sticks up to Jiemma for Sting's sake and tries to suggest a way for him to return to the guild after growing stronger. Sting's utter fury at Jiemma seemingly killing his friend and his immediate willingness to ask Vergil for aid when Minerva holds him hostage shows that he holds the little guy above all else, even the immense pride in his own strength. They may not be the most pleasant pair, but the bond between the two is clearly a powerful one.
    • Amidst Sparda, Kurenai, and Modeus' recounting of the Dragon Civil War, they state that when Dragon Slayer Magic was created there was no shortage of volunteers, many eager to have the chance to help their draconic friends.
    • Minor, but when Arcadios mentions his assumption that Zeref was responsible for Acnologia's rise to power, an irate Kurenai snaps that there is no connection between the two. Seems the Black Wizard has another old friend alive and willing to defend his name.
    • Arcadios approaches Fairy Tail to request their aid in the titular Eclipse Project, and shows himself to be a polite and reasonable figure, sincerely complimenting their abilities and apologising for his attempt to kidnap Lucy. Despite them all being in a sour mood from recent revelations, they acknowledge that he's sincere in his desire to do good, even if they refuse to help him.
    • When Darton goes to arrest the members of Fairy Tail and Kurenai along with Arcadios and Yukino, the Number One Wizard Saint gives a terrifying show of force while proclaiming that she will protect any member of her family, of which she considers Lucy a part of. They may not have been related by blood, but she and Sparda were siblings in every way that counted.
    • Despite his paranoia, Darton truly intends to do nothing more than prevent a potential disaster and makes it clear that he has no intention of harming Lucy or the others. At Lucy's surrender, he relents to letting the others leave ad considers her plea to let Yukino free once the eclipse has passed.
    • While they're not okay with it, the rest of Fairy Tail accept Lucy's request to let Darton take her into custody, trusting that she knows what she's doing. In turn, the reason she's so calm about the whole thing is because of her absolute certainty that they'll be able to come to her rescue the moment she needs them, which is vindicated by how thoroughly they consider the rescue plan before the final day of the Games.
    • While in the cell, Lucy takes the time to talk with Yukino and lift her spirits, as well as gently talking her out of her desire to go through with the Eclipse Project. The two agree to swap stories to pass the time, Lucy her adventures with Dante and Fairy Tail, and Yukino some of what Vergil has done in the past seven years, their mood visibly lightened.
      • One of the first stories Lucy offers to tell is how Zeref became known as the Black Wizard, already starting to spread the truth that Zeref was never evil, just a victim of tragic circumstances. Sparda would be proud.
  • Ch 41 The Fairy Tactician
    • Before the start of the final event, the others assure Nero that Kyrie will be alright with the other team when he starts to worry. In turn, Nero promises to give the battle royale his all in gratitude for everything Fairy Tail have done for the Order of the Sword, as well as how readily they accepted him and Kyrie.
    • Bacchus and Ichiya having a rematch, with both enjoying themselves and sincerely complimenting one another.
    • Despite not liking the guy, Elfman is incensed on Bacchus' behalf when Sting takes him out with a surprise attack. He may have a bad impression of the Quattro Puppy member, but he respects his abilities and feels he deserves a chance at a proper battle.
    • Wally being incensed when Rogue takes out Sho with a sneak attack, angry that his friend didn't get a fair fight. And for what it's worth, the Shadow Dragon Slayer apologises before retreating, clearly regretful over his current tactics.
    • Once Fairy Tail starts to move and accumulate points, Sherria is happy to hear her new friends guild is doing so well, despite competing with them.
    • Sparda's pride at seeing Mavis's strategic skills in action, happily relaying to the others how he passed on the many lessons from his long life and noting how quickly she learned.
    • Before they start to fight, Risley and Juvia have a friendly exchange, the former inviting the latter out for a drink once the Games are over. For her part, the Fairy Tail wizard appreciates the show of good sportsmanship after her guild has dealt with so many adversaries in the Games, and after winning warmly agrees.
    • Likewise, Nero and Wally have friendly, if more spirited, banter before their fight, and the Quatro Puppy wizard takes his loss on the chin.
  • Ch 42 Creative Battle
    • Amongst the Fairy Tail members watching Gray's fight with Rufus, Juvia has the most faith that the Ice Make Wizard will prevail, resolving to keep moving through the city and do her part for their team.
    • In the midst of his three way match between himself, Dobengal and Milliana, Rocker compliments the Mermaid Heel members abilities, and mentions that Wally talks about her a lot.
    • Sheeree expressing pride in Wendy's advanced senses, even giving her sister a playful noogie.
    • When Yukino continues to insist that the Eclipse Gate can be used for good, the others acknowledge she has nothing but noble intentions and gently talk her out of it. Notably, when she uses the argument that it can be used to avert the worst of the hardships they all faced, citing her and Sorano's separation and Dante's entire Dark and Troubled Past, the ones who stop her are Jellal, Sorano and Dante, i.e., the ones who have lost the most. Dante admits that despite what he's lost he's happy with what he's found along the way, while Jellal and Sorano encourage her to move forward and not fixate on the past like they did, noting she is a fundamentally good person who has done nothing that needs atoning for.
      • During Yukino's plea about the good they can do with the Eclipse Gate, she brings up the possibility of saving Zeref from his fate, having come to sympathise with his light despite Lucy informing her of it less than a day ago. She truly is a kind soul.
    • Sorano admits that being part of Crime Sorciere, surrounded by others like her, has helped to ease the guilt she felt at her previous actions.
    • Sorano and Yukino thanking Dante for his role in saving and redeeming the former, and once again for standing up for the latter against her former guild.
    • Lisanna and Sorano casual revealing to Yukino that they are distantly related, with the former promising to introduce her to Elfman. This, plus Dante reiterating their offer to let her join Fairy Tail paves the road for the poor girl not just getting her sister back, but gaining a much larger family as well.
  • Ch 43 True Justice
    • While it's undercut by her continuing to comment on Mavis' height and childlike appearance, Asuka expresses great admiration for Fairy Tail's first guildmaster and her intelligence.
    • Happy, Natsu, Wendy, and Sheeree's fight against Cosmos counts, since it features the honorary siblings having their first team fight. The three human mages display top notch teamwork, and mutual faith in everyone's abilities, Natsu and Happy needing no convincing to follow Sheeree's plan and the elder mages leaving Wendy to deal with Cosmos at her request.
    • Dante's sheer rage at Moloch stating he is responsible for Mavis' fate, showing just how much he regards his adopted sister despite having just recently learned of their relation.
    • Arcadios pulling a Heroic Sacrifice to push Lucy and Yukino out of the lava created by Uosuke's magic. Thankfully, Horologium manages to save him before he perishes.
    • After Yukino summons Pisces in their human form to assist the group, they take a moment to speak with some of Lucy's, mother Pisces warmly greeting Aquarius and Scorpio sharing a fist bump with the son. Nice reminder that the Celestial Spirits are all friends.
  • Ch 44 Past and Future Revelations
    • Lucy continuing to carry Arcadios, in spite of Lady's objections, earnestly saying he saved her and Yukino and deserves to be rescued as well.
    • Natsu and Sheeree sharing a fist bump when recalling how they took down Cosmos together.
    • Darton deduces that the real reason Princess Hisui sent Fairy Tail to the Palace of Perdition wasn't as punishment, but rather so they could rescue Arcadios, showing a great deal of care for her faithful subordinate.
    • Despite having resolved to kill the Yakuma Clan to prevent War Gods from causing a repeat of the God Slayer situation, Sparda and Kurenai spared the one innocent, a child, and even set him up with a life in a nearby down. The talk also reveals they stayed in contact with him for the rest of his life, which was apparently a peaceful one.
    • Nero saving Milliana from Minerva's Territory despite being on opposing teams, an act that earns him praise (and gratitude in the case of the Mermaid Heel members, especially Kurenai herself) from everyone watching. Mavis and Sparda are standouts, the latter in particular giving a proud "that's my boy". In the aftermath, he and Lucia go to have a decidedly friendlier match than Erza and Kagura's.
    • While trapped in Minerva's Territory, Milliana noticed Lector (despite being in excruciating pain) and decided to try and help him despite not knowing him personally. Even as she's too weak to move, she promises to watch over him for the remainder of the Games.
  • Ch 45 Love That Transcends Time
    • Throughout the chapter, the mother-daughter bond between Kurenai and Kagura shines brightly in both flashbacks and the present.
      • During her first meeting with the girl, Kurenai is very gentle with Kagura, promising to find her brother and friends as well as offering her a place to stay in the aftermath of her hometowns destruction.
      • She later calms down the poor girl having nightmares of the event in question, calming her down with a lullaby, and being quite accepting (if surprised) at the girl calling her "mama".
      • In the present, said lullaby proves enough to snap Kagura out of the influence of Archenemy, the memory of the above being one of her most cherished.
    • Despite how badly it backfired, Erza bringing up Jellal and Simons death was done in an earnest attempt to help Kagura vent and let go of her anger. Made all the more poignant by the reveal that she was the one who ensured the Mermaid Heel member was hidden from the cultists who attacked their childhood home, looking out for her just like before.
    • Grays faith that he and Juvia can take on the joint team of Sherria and Lyon, which instantly quells any doubts she has. Regardless of his thoughts on her romantic feelings, it's clear he holds her abilities in high regard.
    • The present members of Fairy Tail assure Future Lucy that they will stop the Eclipse Gate, and treat restoring the life force she gave up to reach them as a natural thing for them to try, moving her to tears. After experiencing a brutal Bad Future, the poor girl definitely needed that.
    • Sapphire leaving an injured Erza to rest despite the prime opportunity to snag easy points for her team, both because of how she helped Kagura, and she's just that kind of a person.
    • Lucia complimenting Fairy Tail as Worthy Opponents before her fight with Nero, both combatants displaying good sportsmanship as they gear up for a fight.
  • Ch 46 The Demon Within
    • After hearing Rogue recounting his regrets at joining Sabertooth and belief that it's too late for him to start making amends, Gajeel refutes the last point and encourages him to leave. When Rogue mentions Minerva taking a friend hostage to prevent him from doing so, the Iron Dragon Slayer hardly misses a beat before saying "let's go rescue em", and goes on to praise his opponent for the strongest set of morals amongst his guildmates.
      • In the same scene, he even teases Rogue when he learns he has a crush, and cuts off the guys talk of not being worthy of her.
      • During the fight with Legion, Gajeel is furious on Rogue's behalf at the entity possessing him, and even recalls his first meeting with the lad. Calling him "his sworn brother", he proceeds to unleash a beatdown on the entity until the moment "Ryos" is released. Whole thing really sells how brightly the 'gold' part shines in this Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
    • Rogue outright stating that he considers Forsch his best friend, and that one of his greatest regrets in his pursuit of strength was neglecting him. Frosch is moved to tears by this, and later stands between Gajeel and a beaten Rogue to defend his friend.
    • Lyon generally acts as a good sport during his fight against Juvia and Gray, all but telling Sherria he doesn't mind giving them a chance to plan, and complimenting both of his opponents. He sincerely compliments Gray on his determination to keep fighting despite being on his last legs. As a nice touch, Lyon notes he'd make their master proud, a smile on his face.
    • Throughout their fight, Nero and Lucia remain rather friendly (if competitive), and by the end openly compliment one another as Worthy Opponents.
      • Also during the fight, the thing that lets Nero start turning things back in his favour is recalling his lessons with Credo, keeping his honorary big brothers teachings close to heart.
    • Just like Nero and Lucia, Laxus and Sapphire are rather friendly before starting their fight, telling each other to Bring It in a manner akin to a Friendly Rivalry.
  • Ch 47 Tournament's End - Strength vs. Power
    • Arcadios' loyalty to Princess Hisui is such that all it took was her word for him to go along with her (insane sounding) plan. Even in the present, after everything he's been through because of her machinations, this loyalty is unshaken, instead directing his ire at whoever is manipulating her.
    • Jura, Sapphire and Laxus all greatly enjoy their battle with one another, with the former eagerly stating it's the most fun he's had in ages. They even exchange good natured banter with each other throughout.
      • After Jura and Orga are knocked out, Laxus subtly gives the more injured Sapphire an option to walk away and recuperate out so they can have a more even match. Sapphire refuses and the two happily end their fight with an old fashioned slugfest. Even in defeat, Sapphire gives her opponent a thumbs up.
      • While her guildmates are saddened at their elimination, they're all content with having given it their all, and admit that they don't mind losing to Fairy Tail. Kurenai especially says she's proud of how her girls did.
    • Fairy Tails cheers at Laxus winning, especially Makarov, who is incredibly proud of how far his grandson has come. A watching Mavis notes to Sparda that Yuri would have been proud as well.
    • Evergreen hugging Elfman in joy after Laxus' victory.
    • Kagura assisting the injured Erza in reaching Sting's location, while apologising for her actions during their fight. For her part, Erza assures her that her feelings were perfectly understandable and promises to bring her to meeting with Jellal with the rest of her old friends.
    • Rogue and Frosch's relief at Milliana presenting a rescued Lector to them, and their immediate decision to inform Sting. They barely take a step before Milliana starts to help the injured Rogue make his way, the members of the different guilds appearing to strike up the beginnings of a friendship. Special mention to Milliana commending Rogue for having stronger moral fiber than his guildmates, given one previously captured and tortured her.
    • Despite everything him and his guild have done to hers, Juvia sees through Sting's boasting of killing Weisslogia, and expresses sincere sympathy for his difficulty in dealing with the pain of having killed someone he loved.
    • Gray treating Juvia's victory over Sting as an obvious fact, showing immense faith in her abilities. When her victory proves it well founded, he gives her a sincere "nice job".
    • Sting and Lectors reunion, full stop. Despite barely being able to move after his defeat, upon seeing Lector safe in Milliana's arms he stumbles to his feet and sprints towards his friend, who in turn rushes towards Sting immediately after regaining consciousness. Upon reaching each other, the two hug as hard as they can, outright bawling Tears of Joy.
  • Ch 48 Mastermind
    • Kagura and Milliana mutually apologizing for the effect their desire for revenge on Jellal had on them, and vow to overcome it together. The two share a hug and Platonic Declaration of Love.
    • Rogue and Frosch optimistically discussing their plans to leave Sabertooth in order to grow, both looking forward to the journey.
    • Gajeel expressing sympathy towards Rogue at hearing how he had to Mercy Kill Skiadrum.
    • Sheeree and Sorano exchanging a high-five after taking out Uosuke.
    • In the midst of recounting his actions over the Time Skip, Vergil mentions having used his connections to search for Tenrou Island alongside investigating demonic activity. Given he brings this up before the Demon Kings, it's all but stated this was motivated by genuine concern for his cousin and brother.
    • Vergil outright admitting that he respects Fairy Tail more than any other guild for using their wins and losses to grow stronger unlike Sabertooth, and even asks for their help stopping Acnologia, the Three Demon Kings, and Mundus. Notably, he uses emotional arguments as much as logical ones, bringing up how Mundus and so many other demons have destroyed their lives (especially his and Dante's) and paints a picture of them creating a better world together. He even seems disappointed when they refuse, the whole thing coming across as a genuine attempt on his part to meet his family halfway.
      • While Vergil makes it ultimately clear that he has no love for most of Sabertooth, he notably states that Yukino was an exception, making it clear that his defense of her was genuine, and he sees her in the same light as Dante and the rest of Fairy Tail as someone who can grow stronger from losing.
      • Even after the above disagreement, he makes it clear to Future Rogue that he is to capture the group, not kill them.
    • While the scene is a massive Tearjerker, Future Lucy's final words to everyone has her express how much they all mean to her and the traits she admires most about each of them, even ones she doesn't interact with as much like Panther-Lily and Kyrie. Her final words are asking them all to protect the future.
      • One highlight is her returning his half of the Perfect Amulet to Dante.
      • She also gives a Dying Declaration of Love to Natsu.
