Web Animation / Sonic Generations Directors Cut

Go To

Sonic Generations: Director's Cut is a Youtube Poop created by Brandon the Random Gamer. It is a video remix parody of the Milestone Celebration video game Sonic Generations, its associated tropes, and a few other series alongside it.

Tropes:

  • Big "NO!": Sonic uses one on loan from Darth Vader when his chili dog is sent flying in the opening.
  • Big "OMG!": When Sonic meets up with Tails in Chemical Plant, he yells "Oh my god, he can fly with his ass!"
  • Birthday Episode: It starts off as this, but given Sonic spends 2000 years just trying to get past Green Hill Zone, it goes way beyond that.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Knuckles yells this at Sonic after he's freed, for no clear reason. Modern Eggman yells "Silence!" to Classic Eggman before the final battle too. Amy cuts off Knuckles by doing this to him in the ending, with his own line no less.
  • Bond One-Liner: When Sonic succeeds in evading the GUN truck, he quips "So long, gay fucker!" just before it crashes into buildings with an alley Sonic can run through. Fat Mario is not amused.
    Fat Mario: "Mama-***er!"
  • Broad Strokes: Mocked. When Sonic says Green Hill Zone looks familiar, a clip from the original game pops up.
  • Captain Obvious:
    • When Modern and Classic Tails conclude that they're traveling through time and space, Arnold Schwarzenegger pops up to remark "No shit."
    • Eggman mocks both Tails for acting like this when they say they need to get the Chaos Emerald from the Time Eater.
  • Continuity Nod: Sonic references the events of Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic Colors early on, with accompanying clips of Sonic using the lamp on Erazor Djinn and Sonic using the Purple Frenzy Wisp power.
  • Deface of the Moon: Sonic's friends blow up the moon as a surprise birthday gift for him. He's genuinely flattered by it.
  • The Determinator: Sonic spends 2000 years just trying to get through Green Hill Zone and rescue Tails.
  • Drives Like Crazy: In Seaside Hill, Sonic drives a cart and ends up crashing into a bumper, blacking out the screen.
  • Epic Fail: Sonic taking 2000 years just to get through Green Hill Zone.
  • Face Palm: Everyone in the cast reacts this way to Sonic saying "Chaos control collision crisis of epic proportions." before the Perfect Chaos fight.
  • Fan Disservice: The very last line in the video is "Baldy Mcnosehair looks dead sexy in a miniskirt!", accompanied by a disturbing image of Eggman in his underwear.
  • It's Probably Nothing: Classic Sonic says this (actually a line from Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie) when he hears the "Green Khil Zone" remix of Green Hill Zone in the opening.
  • Leit Motif: The Time Eater has the "Green Khil Zone" remix of the Green Hill Zone theme in its first appearances, which changes to Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" later on.
  • Oh, Crap!: In the ending, Modern Sonic has second thoughts about telling Classic Sonic that his future is going to be great after seeing flashbacks of the lesser moments of his career (i.e. getting knocked off of a hoverboard, Chris screaming for Sonic, Silver fighting Sonic, Mephiles killing Sonic and Elise kissing him, Sonic getting forced out of his super form, etc.), but the time portal closes before he can warn the latter.
  • Older Than They Look: Sonic spends 2000 years just to find Tails, but doesn't age a day.
  • Record Needle Scratch: Twice; first when Sonic fails to catch up with Classic Sonic in the mirror room, and later on when Sonic says a really lame line before the fight with Perfect Chaos.
  • White Void Room: Sonic wakes up in this after his first encounter with the Time Eater—and for some reason, Mario and Luigi (driving with Wii Remote Wheels) and Flo inhabit the same location.
  • Re-Cut: Invoked by the title. There are a lot of differences in the final game and this cut, to put it gently...
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Perfect Chaos ends the fight against Sonic before it even starts when Sonic quips a very cheesy line to him ("Chaos control collision crisis of epic proportions."), claiming Sonic "threw off my groove".
  • Series Continuity Error: Played for Laughs. When Sonic remarks how weird it is that there are two Sonics, clips of Sonic encountering Shadow in Sonic Adventure 2, Metal Overlord's defeat in Sonic Heroes and Sonic's glitch ridden fight with Silver in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) pop up. Classic Sonic lampshades it by saying "Strange, isn't it?". When Tails remarks that Green Hill Zone doesn't look familiar to him, a screenshot of him flying through the Green Hill Zone loop de loop in Super Smash Bros. Brawl pops up with a buzzer sound.
  • Shout-Out: Loads and loads of pop culture references are stuffed into the video;
    • The French Narrator and his time cards make several appearances.
    • When Sonic eats a chili dog in the opening, he goes "Yum yum, delicioso!" He says it again once he retrieves the chili dog in the ending.
    • When he loses the chili dog, he screams a Big "NO!" like Darth Vader.
    • When Sonic tries to attack the Time Eater in its first appearance, it swats him away with a yell of "OBJECTION!"
    • In the opening, Tails hands Sonic a copy of Super Mario All-Stars, which he swats away. Mario and Luigi make brief appearances early on, using footage for the trailer of Mario Kart Wii. When Sonic is outrunning the GUN truck, the Starman invincibility theme and Mario quips accompany it. Fat Mario makes a very brief cameo appearance too.
    • Before Sonic wakes up in the white void, the Green Goblin's line "Just paralyzed...temporarily." from the first Spider-Man movie can be heard.
    • When Sonic is traveling through Green Hill Zone, dialogue from DSP's Sonic Generations playthrough is used.
    • When Tails remarks that the color is being sucked out of all the worlds, a very brief snapshot of the Shadow Blot pops up.
    • At one point, Sonic responds to Tails with "Like I care!"
    • When Sonic mentions the events of Sonic Colors, the Pac-Man power pellet sound effect accompanies Sonic's use of the Purple Frenzy power.
    • During the Mirror scene, Dr. Cortex makes a voice cameo. Modern Sonic tries to run after Classic Sonic to the tune of "Gotta Go Fast", only to get knocked back and sent rolling through the air—this prompts Peppy Hare to say "Do a barrel roll!"—and after that, the infamously odd expression Sonic makes in the opening of Sonic Unleashed appears and mocks Sonic by saying "You're too slow!" The "Barrel Roll" line pops up again during the final battle.
    • When the Death Egg appears, the line "That's no moon—that's yo mamma!" pops up, which is taken from a Robot Chicken Star Wars skit.
    • "Sexbomb" plays during the Death Egg Robot fight.
    • When Classic Eggman is "kidnapped" by the Time Eater and it cuts to the next scene, the Adam West Batman transition music cue is used.
    • Arnold Schwarzenegger pops up to remark "No shit." in response to Modern and Classic Tails realizing they're traveling through time.
    • Perfect Chaos ends the fight against Sonic before it even starts because the latter "threw off my groove!"
    • Flo the Progressive Girl pops up later on, using footage from an actual crossover commercial with her and Sonic. When Espio is freed, he claims he's seen into the eyes of their enemy, and a negative image of Flo pops up with "One-Winged Angel" playing in the background.
    • The classic Trollface pops up in Crisis City during the "Trollnado" sequence.
    • The Nyan Cat theme accompanies the Time Eater in one of its later appearances.
    • "Friday" by Rebecca Black plays during the Speed Highway level.
    • When Sonic is chasing the Egg Battery, it fires a laser at Sonic and the staple "Imma firin' my layzor!" meme accompanies it.
    • During a later boss fight with Eggman, he quotes his Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog counterpart by saying "Have a free sample of my super freeze breath!"note
    • When Classic Eggman appears in person before the final battle, he references the infamous "Pingas" line from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Modern Eggman also laughs like Tidus.
    • The "Nerd Rage" clip is the infamous scene of Peter Parker screaming in horror from Spider-Man 2.
    • When both Sonics get crushed by the Time Eater's hand, the song "Hide and Seek" plays.
    • When Classic Sonic tries out the Homing Attack in the ending, the John Williams Superman theme plays.
  • Skewed Priorities: Sonic tells Tails that he's more concerned about "fucking his friends" than anything else.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: An exasperated Eggman quotes Dr. Evil's famous line when both Tails say they need to get a Chaos Emerald from the Time Eater.
  • Suddenly Speaking:
    • Classic Sonic has a handful of speaking lines now, but they're all borrowed from his OVA counterpart.
    • Perfect Chaos, but only for one line that's borrowed from Kuzco.
  • Take That!: Practically half of the video makes fun of the game itself, and it takes jabs at other series too.
    • Tails hands Sonic a copy of Super Mario All-Stars (the Wii port, to be specific) as a birthday gift. Sonic hesitates for a moment, and swats the game out of Tails' hands.
    • The "Sonic Drift sucks" line from Sonic Shorts Vol. 2 pops up when Sonic crashes a car in Seaside Hill.
    • When Classic Eggman says "Nobody calls me that (Robotnik) anymore.", the aforementioned clip of Peter Parker screaming pops up with the caption "Nerd Rage".
    • The ending turns Sonic's "Enjoy your future, it's gonna be great!" line on its head by showing clips of the more infamous installments in the series, such as Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).
  • Tempting Fate: Just after Shadow says "You got this, Sonic!", both Modern and Classic Sonic get crushed by the Time Eater's hand.
  • That's No Moon: Parodied. When the Death Egg appears, Emperor Palpatine's "Thats no moon—that's yo mamma!" from a Robot Chicken Star Wars skit is heard.
  • Visual Pun: When the Sonics and Tailses encounter the Time Eater in the hub, it does a U-turn and leaves while the lyrics "Never gonna run around and desert you..." play.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Charmy is freed from being trapped in limbo by Sonic—only to abruptly reverse back into the frozen state.
  • Zero-Effort Boss: The Perfect Chaos fight. Sonic quips a very cheesy line, and Chaos is so indignated that Sonic "threw off (his) groove", that he ends the fight immediately and leaves in a huff.
