Wick Check input (100 examples)

  1. Series.Defiance: Irzu, the god of Irathients, seems like it actually just wants to cause death and destruction. Then subverted at the end of Season 2 when it's revealed that the Kaziri is just an alien ship pretending to be the god Irzu and it's not evil. It's just continuing the terraforming process it was programmed for.
  2. Series.Kamen Rider Agito: The Big Bad, the Overlord of Darkness is actually the creator of humanity, who sees them as his pets. His ancient adversary, the Overlord of Light, is The Trickster who gives humanity the means to free themselves from control of the Overlord of Darkness. That said, they're both closer to the Zoroastrian ideal of a God of Good and a God of Evil at war rather than one being a former servant of the other.
  3. Characters.Supper Smash Bros Mishonh From God: Take away Protagonist-Centered Morality and you have a version of God who is petty, kills children, and plots to change the outcome of the Civil War. And yes, that means reinstating slavery.
  4. Pantheon.Gems And Jewellery: Enemies: All malevolent demons, Vlad Dracula Ţepeş, prejudiced demon hunters/monster killers who care not for their condition or circumstances, Jubileus, the Angels of Paradiso, the Demons of Inferno, those who selfishly seek godhood for evil reasons, whose who attempted/committed deicide (unless said God Is Evil), YHVH, Chuck Shurley, Judge Frollo, William Stryker
  5. Fridge.Supernatural: In "The Man Who Would Be King", Raphael tells Castiel that Kenneth Lay was allowed into Heaven despite his numerous wrongdoings because his devoutness outweighed his sins. But after learning Chuck/God's true nature, it's more likely that he lets seemingly undeserving people into Heaven because he thinks it's funny.
  6. Characters.Brave Frontier NP Cs Allies: God Is Good: He's the one who summoned you to Grand Gaia so you can eliminate the Four Fallen Gods plaguing its lands, and helps you access new places through His power of controlling the world Gates. Later on, however, He turns out to be a subversion, as he's really using you.
  7. Characters.Dragon Quest VII: His Plan B. He takes on the appearance of The Almighty who is revived by the Roamers in the present and seemingly promises to bring about a new golden age for humanity. This is actually just a charade so that he could seal up the islands all over again while secretly getting the support of humanity at the same time. It takes the party freeing the Four Great Spirits to expose him once and for all.
  8. VideoGame.Lineage 2: Let's put it this way-the God of Darkness who created a race purely to mock the other gods? He's the nice one.
  9. ComicBook.Jonah Hex: Jonah expresses this view on several occasions, believing that the kind, just God of Christianity is just a comforting delusion for those who don't know God's cruelty as well as he does.
  10. Fanfic.Teen Titans Saga: Played with. Whilst X'hal can be best described as 'a mentally unstable Eldritch Abomination', Starfire points out that she was a noble soul during her days as a mortal, and if nothing else, there are good lessons to take from her tale.
  11. VideoGame.Hexyz Force: Big Bad: Emperor Axel of Rosenbaum, once a beloved leader until the assasination of his wife, now seeks to conquer the world. However, he’s a Brainwashed and Crazy pawn of Faust Schnizer; he, Azul/Galiza, Norvia, and Delgaia are all competing for control over the Hour of Judgement, and whoever comes out on top depends on the ending.
  12. UsefulNotes. The Middle East: Index entry
  13. WMG.Cthulhu Mythos: The Cthulhu Mythos is the Mirror Universe of The Bible-instead of benevolent(or malevolent) Eldritch Abomination that wants to have a relationship with us, we have an incomprehensible Eldritch Abomination that sees us as a sand particle on the beach.
  14. Characters. The Games We Play The Gamer RWBY: He might not actually be omnipotent or omniscient, but he's close enough to it that there's little practical difference as far as the Huntsman on the ground is concerned... and unfortunately for all, he's a massive dick.
  15. Music. The Black Dahlia Murder: "Their Beloved Absentee".
  16. EvenEvilHasStandards.Web Videos: Diamanda Hagan: Diamanda believes that Left Behind and Apocalypse depict a God so horrible that even a mass murdering, multiple rapist Evil Overlord like her shows more compassion. She also gets terribly defensive when Oancitizen implies she can't tell Japanese people apart. By the end of her review of Where the Dead Go to Die, Hagan is left a bloody, broken mess over the nightmarish imagery of the film. This is from the same person who made a Drinking Game for whenever there's a rape scene in a movie she reviews.
  17. Trivia.Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street: Word of God: Sondheim said that, despite Judge Turpin being a horrible person who does terrible things, it's actually Mrs. Lovett who is the musical's true villain, largely because she's entirely self-serving to a sociopathic degree. At the very least, Turpin realizes that what he's done to Lucy is wicked, and that his feelings for Johanna are wrong; he also genuinely believes that any form of sexual feeling is evil, so he has something of a Freudian Excuse. Mrs. Lovett doesn't have any of that baggage or self-awareness, and is thus more reprehensible. Sondheim also confirmed in an interview that he didn't mean for "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd" to send a God Is Evil message. "He served a dark and vengeful god" is just a metaphorical line, and the use of the Dies Irae melody just represents death.
  18. VideoGame. The Legend Of Dragoon: Soa, the creator god, ultimately created an Eldritch Abomination to destroy and rebuild his supposedly flawed creation.
  19. Characters.Devil Summoner: Sinister Minister: As an example in this game we have Sid Davis, a Serial Killer and Omnicidal Maniac who is Devil Summoner's Big Bad, although he's probably only a self styled priest, not a real one. He does though work with the Demiurge, who was revealed in later games as part of YHVH.
  20. Film. The Ruling Class: God Is Good: Jack subscribes fully to the idea that God is Love, and preaches kindness, compassion, and tolerance everywhere he goes as part of his insistence that he is Jesus. Unfortunately, Herder subjects him to Mind Rape built around brainwashing him that God Is Evil in order to "cure" him. Needless to say, it doesn't end well.
  21. Literature.Second Apocalypse: The myriad gods value humanity greatly. For our delicious flavor.
  22. JustForFun.How To Be A Complete Monster: And speaking of Hell. .. You know how those afterlife realms, especially Hell, ruled with the deity of the dead who may be evil bastards tormenting the poor deceased souls, like Lucifer/Satan, and considered the top tier evil beings? Show'em who's boss. Take over Hell, then do even worse things to the poor souls or the demons inhabiting said infernal realm. If they end up swearing loyalty to you, then nice, more pawns for you to use! If they end up disgusted and invokes Even Evil Has Standards, another milestone of being a monster reached! Win-win scenario! The inversion works too. Heaven up there? Topple the God(s) there and show them and those puny mortals that Light Is Not Good and smite whoever rejects your rule! If the former residents of Heavens are already jerkasses or evil douches, be sure to one-up that douchebaggery and evilness, just like how you did it to the demons and devils down there!
  23. Characters.Magic The Gathering Phyrexia Rath And Mirrodin: Satanic Archetype: Both as a human and as a god, his character is filled with Satanic elements. For example, the structure of Phyrexia is composed of nine progressively smaller hollow planets resting inside one another, with each sphere having a specific function and Yawgmoth residing in the ninth innermost sphere. Replace Phyrexia with Hell and Yawgmoth with Satan, and you have Inferno. That said, it is also worth noting that he also intentionally draws upon the Abrahamic God, with a strict religious doctrine, his most cherished creations being the seraph-like pneumagogs and his own name (similar enough to Yahweh).
  24. CrapsaccharineWorld.Literature: From the viewpoint of The Other Light faction in the Left Behind book Kingdom Come, Jesus Christ's Millennial Reign is a utopia for "naturals" as long as they obey God's laws and become believers before they reach 100 years of age — otherwise, they instantly die and go to Hell. Over the course of time, the Other Light does manage to win enough converts with their manifesto claiming God Is Evil because of his 100 years of age limit, so that the world at the end of the Millennium becomes a Crapsack World again, with the Other Light being a massive army ready to defeat God and Jesus Christ when Satan is released. Guess how that turned out!
  25. Pantheon.Support Magic: Opposes: All Evil and Jerkass Gods.
  26. Fanfic.Tastes Like Heresy: Aegis thinks so. "And do you really think Terra so cruel as to do any of the things you mentioned?" I coolly retort. "Terra is cruelty, Horizon. Just look around you," [Aegis] says as she whirls around. "Is this the kind of place a kind maker would send us to live? Among the coarse sands and cracked earth of the garden she forgot to water? Would a kind creator let her little ponies kill each other over a few clouds?"
  27. AffablyEvil.Other Media: Index entry or ZCE
  28. TabletopGame.Forgotten Realms: Every god (even the "good" ones) forced Kelemvor to return to holding the souls of every single mortal creature hostage in order to keep their power intact (see one above). Kelemvor tried to claim all petitioners without patron "his by default" — as Walinda noted (Finder's Bane), outside of an united pantheon it wrecks the power balance. There's a reason not even Myrkul, one of the Stupid Evil Dead Three tried that. Kelemvor didn't propose other variants not involving the Wall.
  29. WMG.Grand Unifying Guesses Jesus: Everyone in Haruhi Suzumiya but most especially Kyon (The Chosen One whose task is to take God's Judgement upon his shoulders to save us from Armageddon when God comes to Judge this boring world) and Mikuru (Messianic Archetype. Mikuru was also crucified, humiliated, ridiculed and decorated with balloons for our sins).Kyon is the True God/Jesus, Yuki/The Data Overmind is Sophia while Haruhi is the Demiurge.
  30. AuthorTract.Literature: The Land of Mist by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is a novel-length tract justifying the author's conversion to Spiritualism, including the massive change in the character of ultra-rationalist Professor Challenger, who converts to Spiritualism. There is a suggestion in chapter two that the deaths of "ten million young men" in World War I was "punishment by the Central Intelligence for humanity's laughing at the alleged evidence for life after death".
  31. Music.Pyrrhon: "The Architect Confesses (Spittlestrand Hair)".
  32. WMG.Fullmetal Alchemist: Father had a god complex. He used many of the trappings of the Judeo-Christian god, and of 'Father-Lord-type' gods in general, to build his image. Mainly for his own benefit, but I'm sure it had an impact on the people in his conspiracy and on the children themselves. One of Father's roles may be as Satan analogue (although even then God Is Pretty Much A Sadistic Creep), but in Father's mind, at least, Greed #1 was Lucifer—he who betrayed his father and ran off to build his own little kingdom because he wanted everything. Extra points for hanging Greed up on a cross and then destroying him, so that he could return to the greater whole of his Father. He gets to analogue the Morningstar and a Messianic Archetype! But Father knew he didn't have ultimate power, and that was his goal. Not that I know what other goal you can have, when you're immortal and have absolute power over the material world, and ruling countries is easy.
  33. Characters.Metropolis: It claims that God doesn't care about the people who pray to Him, and hasn't done so since He flooded the world in the Book of Genesis.
  34. Characters.Maho Girls Precure: Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: After Kushi's death from the first half of Maho, Deusmast takes his Big Bad spot, albeit he is far different to him in some ways. Unlike Kushi who is a former human turned skeleton after overusing dark magic, Deusmast is a God Is Evil Eldritch Abomination whose form is literally made out of darkness with its "eyes" comprised of four colour-coded magic circles that were the forms of the four beings who serve him. Whereas Kushi is an Orcus on His Throne who spent most of his time being a Non-Action Big Bad before Episodes 20 and 21, Deusmast actively is the threat throughout the rest of the series.
  35. WMG.Doctor Who Series 14: Index entry or ZCE
  36. FromNobodyToNightmare.Video Games: Even worse, The Great Will, or YHVH. He was once a God among many, with only a few more followers than the norm. This was enough to allow him to destroy and demonize his opponents, and led to him becoming a Mad God ruling across universes and the ultimate manifestation of the concept of Law.
  37. DarthWiki.Hypervania: Ymhalog, the creator of the universe. It created the gods as a Servant Race, and when the original gods refused to do its bidding, it destroyed them. It's currently sleeping, but its dreams influence reality, which is why the universe is so crapsack.
  38. Characters.Skulduggery Pleasant: The Faceless Ones are the closest thing to an all-powerful creator in the series (before the introduction of their precursors in the Grimoire), and are most decisively not good.
  39. Recap. The Boys S 01 E 05 Good For The Soul: Mother's Milk has to haul away Butcher when he tries arguing that God is a cunt at the Believe Expo.
  40. Fridge.Bridge To Terabithia: A little bit of a horrifying Fridge Brilliance that might have an explanation to why the death is changed up. In real life, Lisa Hill (Leslie's inspiration) was struck by lightning and died. Now, while the main reason why this was changed to a drowning was so it would seem more realistic, keep in mind that one of the themes brought up was "what happens after a non-Christian dies?", with the overall idea that they go to hell. Lightning bolts are usually associated with God delivering judgement. Thankfully, one of the characters brings up that God's probably not going to let Leslie burn in hell, because otherwise, if the lightning bolt death was kept, some people might think that God was having his cake and eating it too.
  41. Manga.Demon Lord Dante: Advanced Ancient Humans: A million years ago, humanity was already advanced in high-tech. The kingdom of Sodom was actually the capital of humanity and the most high-tech of all. That is, until God destroyed it.
  42. Characters.Blasphemous II: Holy Halo: Inverted. The Incarnate Devotion has a gigantic halo behind him to signify his holy status, but as a physical representation of the worship of the Grievous Miracle, he is perhaps the very last thing one could describe as holy.
  43. Fridge.Left Behind: Much of the Slacktivist's critique of the series consists of Fridge Logic, and a fair amount of Fridge Horror.Speaking of Fridge Horror, if you're a Shin Megami Tensei fan, this series has a metric ton of Fridge Horror, especially since it could have easily been written from a Messian perspective as in-universe fiction. God as depicted in this series has a LOT in common with YHVH. The followers of Lucifer are depicted as depraved degenerates who have no one worth saving unless they see the light, otherwise they die as divine punishment. In fact, the ending plays out like the Law ending of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey.
  44. VisualNovel.Cafe Stella And The Reapers Butterflies: Or Ambiguously Evil at best. God really has it out for people with powerful souls that could change their fate, and so tried to kill those in a Final Destination fashion.
  45. NightmareFuel.Mandela Catalogue: There's also an added layer of Fridge Horror to this as well. If the real Jesus never walked out of his tomb and was replaced by an alternate, wouldn't God (who biblically is depicted as omniscient) realize that and retrieve him? This lends itself to three equally horrifying possibilities; God has rejected Jesus and refuses to free him from his torment, Jesus is in such a cursed place that even God can't reach him without risk, even if He did want to save him, or, the worst possibility, the alternate and his lies were so convincing that he managed to trick even God along with everybody else into believing that he's actually His son, and literally no one is aware of the real Jesus’ torment.
  46. Music.Daughters: "The Lords Song" posits that God is a sadist who created humans just so they could suffer.
  47. AfterTheEnd.Video Games: Shin Megami Tensei I has this happen twice over the course of the game, with the first fourth of the game being relatively nice until the Expanse breaks out, turning it into a case of an Urban Fantasy Just Before the End as Tokyo gets sent into chaos, only "resolving" when the United States Ambassador Thorman, aka Thor is on orders from YHVH himself to purge the entire world before demons overtake the Expanse and drops his "hammer" on Tokyo, and by proxy the rest of the world. And from whatever the nuke and demons haven't obliterated, YHVH finishes the job with a second Great Flood promptly killing anyone who wasn't in the Basilica at the time of it happening. By the end of it, a hell of a lot of dead bodies pile up and set it en course for Shin Megami Tensei II, after the Hero canonically wipes the floor with the angels and demons, only to be usurped at the last moment, and have a theocratic Cyberpunk dystopia installed in his place. Yeah, this universe isn't fun.
  48. DarthWiki.Weeping Willows Spirithand: How some of the students view them. They're not wrong.
  49. VideoGame.Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods - Part Two reveals in the lore and the final battle that the Father isn't actually the real Father: Davoth is. Having been betrayed by the Maykrs, his own creations, he was sealed away as a life sphere for eons and had his name and power stolen in the process.
  50. YMMV.Green Antarctica: The Zhu interpretation of A Christmas Carol: Skrog cares nothing for people, and refuses to participate in the rites of guarding. God sends a series of visions to terrorize Skrog, but instead of knuckling down, Skrog becomes ever more adamantly opposed to God and God's will. His example is so ferocious that the community rallies around Skrog, and in the end, they sacrifice all the newborns, in a massive blood ritual.
  51. Roleplay.Roll To Dodge Savral: Always Chaotic Evil: While most races and factions have varying shades of gray morality, unicorns are depicted as universally evil. Whenever they show up, they're either trolling the players, working for other antagonists, brainwashing scores of innocent civilians or slaughtering them outright. Over the course of the game, they've laid waste to several cities and transformed one of the world's subregions into a barren wasteland. Given that they're creations of the witch goddess Cathy, the unicorns are a justified example.Notably averted with certain lesser witches, namely Yukari.
  52. Characters.Second Apocalypse The Consult Historical Figures Cunoroi And Others: Index entry or ZCE
  53. VideoGame. One Final Scream: Screw Destiny: The rallying cry of the protagonists, after The Reveal that God Is Evil.
  54. Literature.Tales Of MU: Crystal Dragon Jesus: What we've seen of the worship of Khersis is very much like Christianity, except in a world where gods are known to speak to mortals, demons are real, and exorcism works. Considering the one passage from the Khersian holy book that's been referenced parallels the gospels directly, and one creation myth says he was born of a great dragon from a crystal egg, he may be a literal "Crystal Dragon Jesus". We don't know if he has any dark secrets yet, but some of his followers are assholes. The "Mechans" are expies of Wiccans. Arkhanites are similarly somewhere between a parody/straw version and an expy of agnosticism, accounting for the occasional physical presence of a god by worshiping a god who... isn't entirely sure that he's a god, and told his followers basically not to bother him about the question because there are more interesting questions to think about.
  55. Manga.Yaiba: Amakusa tries to summon up to 36 gods to find out the location of the Legendary Orb of Kyushu, but he's hilariously unsuccessful. Also "God" in the Chiki Chiki Grand Prix Omake is shown as fat and lazy, and want to start a Galactic War just to win the boredom. He also really likes sports. Averted with Ryujin and Susanoo.
  56. Recap.Supernatural S 14 E 20 Moriah: Of the all creation being Chuck's Cosmic Plaything variety. It turns out that the real reason why Chuck lets Sam and Dean do all the heavy lifting in saving the world and never gets personally involved is because Chuck literally set all of it up as a form of entertainment; he's essentially watching a gripping television show. He could save the world and stop all the evil and suffering on a whim, but chooses not to because it's all so entertaining to him.
  57. VideoGame. The Last Resurrection: Not only is Jesus the game's central villain, but his dad appears in the backstory a couple of times and is portrayed as a bit of a jerk.
  58. Franchise.Castlevania: God Is Good: A bit of a theme throughout the series.Dracula's origin story came from a hatred of God after losing his wife, while Leon Belmont, who also lost his wife (due to Mathias' scheming), remained steadfast in his faith. Alucard and Celia Fortner seem to believe that in order for God to be wholly good, evil must exist in the form of a Dark Lord to oppose Him. Nevertheless, in general, the series implies the former more than the latter, considering most of the heroes get their power from divine might. In the Lords Of Shadow trilogy, it is unquestionably the former, since even when Gabriel becomes Dracula, he never loses God's favor, and realizing that God still loves him is one of the things that helps him pull a Heel–Face Turn.
  59. WMG.Chick Tracts: Index entry or ZCE
  60. Literature.Demon Accords: Nay-Theist: Chris doesn't believe in God not because he doesn't believe he exists but because he thinks God Is Evil for letting him live the life he does. Ironically, it's implied God is the source of his powers and provides a lot of covert help.
  61. VideoGame.Dwarf Fortress: Cosmic Horror Story: In a world where everything is dangerous, most gods are either evil or decisively malicious for other reasons, and individual lives are fairly meaningless, the entirety of DF can feel like this at times. There's also the fact that Armok is apparently destroying and rebuilding the world repeatedly so he can revel in the violence he subjects his hapless creations to.
  62. NightmareFuel.Sandra And Woo: Thomas J. God being the human god. If you're unclear as to why this is Nightmare Fuel, consider that strip. He is perfectly willing to have an innocent child killed and her love interest's life completely ruined, without a second thought. Even the Devil is appalled at this.
  63. ManBehindTheMan.Video Games: In Xenogears, Emperor Cain and Kahran Ramsus, among several other leaders of The Empire of Solaris, are introduced as being the main antagonists of the story. It turns out that Ramsus’ unassuming girlfriend Miang, and leader Krelian, are the real villains behind all of them. Not only that, but the former is essentially "god" in human form, and she has been manipulating world events for 10,000 years. Its spiritual successor Xenosaga has a rare 'good guy' example. chaos was the man behind the man to none other than Jesus: he did the miracles, Jesus got the credit. It also has a straighter example in Wilhelm, who is behind all the other villains in the series, including Margulis and Albedo. In Xenoblade Chronicles 1, Egil is this to Metal Face, although the real villain is Zanza, who Egil is fighting against.
  64. Music.The Ocean: A frequent lyrical theme.
  65. Pantheon.Angels: The two Zen'o treated the Valar with respect, being impressed in their shaping of Arda and their noble heart. They think the Omni-Kings are cute and have a good heart, but have a lot of maturing to do and some of their actions are questionable. Of course, they do admit even if they don't have Black-and-White Insanity they have a hard time understanding Blue-and-Orange Morality like Zen'o seems to have. The Valar also have pity towards the Winchester boys for being cosmic playthings, especially learning the true nature of their God.
  66. TabletopGame.Chronicles Of Darkness: It is unknown if the God-Machine is either a Ditzy Genius with regular bad intel from glitches and errors in its Infrastructure, a master of the backup plan which doesn't care if a scheme fails if it has more in the oven, or both. Either way, Mr. Deus Est Machina is not your friend, and probably not the worst enemy in the divine realm you could have in a horror setting (though it's still damned scary).
  67. WholePlotReference.Video Games: Right from the first game, to the original Devilman; the story opens just before the end, and ends up the Hero's family killed by the demons they were hunting for the first third of the game. The world ending in nuclear hellfire, and then ultimately being destroyed by God. Fusing with demons makes you inherently more wild and feral, and demons have an innate connection to the natural world. God seeks to destroy the world to create a perfect paradise free of sin, and the equivalent of Satan is caught in an endless battle against God. Eventually, it ends with your Bishōnen Ideal Hero going full Knight Templar and seeking to recreate the world in God's vision, and your Hunk Anti-Hero fusing with a demon as a last-ditch effort to stop them, while Satan and God meet one last time for a final battle.
  68. Headscratchers.Doom Eternal: Where is The Father (who's implied to be God himself) during all of this? You'd think he'd be appalled about what the Maykrs are doing, though maybe he's fine with it? It is stated in one codex that he's inexplicably gone missing, and it's thrown all the Maykrs into a panic. In particular, his absence has disrupted the Maykr life cycle (in that they cannot resurrect after death anymore) essentially turning them into a Dying Race. This is why the Khan Maykr was desperate enough to strike a bargain with hell in the first place, using Argent Energy as a crude substitute to keep her race going in the Father's absence. If it's true that VEGA is The Father and has been an Amnesiac God for an unknown period of time, then it's possible that he didn't go AWOL by his own choice.
  69. Recap. The Simpsons S 7 E 18 The Day The Violence Died: In the Itchy & Scratchy cartoon, Itchy prays to God, who helps him kill off Scratchy and throws the cat off into the eternal pit of Hell fire. Seems very unethical for a Supreme Being. Then again, he appears to be a mouse.
  70. CruelMercy.Live Action TV: Supernatural: In Season 10, it's revealed that in 2003, Dean (presumably) killed a young boy's father. In 2014 he finally finds Dean, who has been turned into a demon and is beaten horribly by him. Sam later tells Dean that even though he is now a demon, he still let the man go. Dean tells him that that was the worst thing he could have done, as the man had trained his entire life for the moment when he would finally gain vengeance on Dean, and instead, Dean "whipped his ass". In the penultimate episode of the series, Jack drains Chuck's power, leaving him totally human. Then, despite Chuck's expectations, the Winchesters don't kill him, instead leaving him to live and die as a normal, unloved person.
  71. VideoGame.Oblitus Casa: Cosmic Horror Reveal: MOTHER is actually a god and represents Discovery Island itself.
  72. Awesome. With This Ring: The only way Apokoliptians can take down the Justice League is either through numbers, or just Darkseid.
  73. Franchise.Devilman: God: Creator of the Earth along with angels, humans and sometimes demons. His characterization varies between adaptations from being merely remote and alien to being God Is Evil. The only thing common is God doesn't like demons and sees them as an abomination.
  74. Characters.Starcraft Other: Artanis is horrified to learn that the Xel'naga that uplifted the Protoss were Amon and his accomplices, and only did so as part of his plans.
  75. Music.Jack Off Jill: "Losing His Touch".
  76. NightmareFuel.Mage The Ascension: The Nephandi's worldview is basically that God Is Evil (or possibly Evil is God) and they want to be on the winning side. The Nephandi are creepily religious as most of them are genuinely devoted to the being/s they worship, they just worship beings of utter evil (or at least utter destruction) in opposition to every other belief system in existence. Their God is almost an Evil Counterpart to the entire concept of religious belief (the thing that gives a good chunk of Mages their worldview).
  77. WMG.Reaper: This theory continues to be supported by the events of the Season 2 finale: Steve dooms both Sam and Andi to Hell forever because God told him to. Though YMMV on that one. I think we were supposed to interpret it...if they'd been renewed... as a sign of a deeper plan and mystery. Reaper has been fairly traditional with the larger set up- God is good, the devil is bad. I think Steve's actions were supposed to be a shocking twist followed by a hopeful ending that deepened the mystery. If they were really going the God Is Evil route, the end is very....out of place.
  78. UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans.Video Games: This is the premise of the Messian Church and of their patron deity Himself. It only becomes more prominent as the series goes on, from Shin Megami Tensei I to Shin Megami Tensei II to Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne.
  79. Pantheon.Darkness And Shadow: As you might expect from his interaction with Frollo, nothing outside of pain is more hilarious when God Himself turns out to be the bad guy. YHVH is the most infamous example, and Chernabog can actually be a Law-aligned demon in the SMT multiverse (albiet named Chernobog). However if there is any God who has his favor, it is Chuck Shurley. Chuck regards His creation as His plaything, a story which he puts people through Hell just to get the result he wants. Not all that different from how Chernabog plays with whatever lives he gets his grubby mitts on, is it?
  80. Characters.Scion: It's hinted that he is merely hijacking the image of the monotheist God for power's sake.
  81. Film.Cross Of Iron: Steiner certainly thinks so. "I believe that God is a sadist, but probably doesn't even know it."
  82. VideoGame.Viking Battle For Asgard: After Skarin defeats Hel he asks Freya to release him from her service so he may get his chance to enter Valhalla. Freya refuses, despite the fact that he just kicked the ass of the Queen of the Underworld at her bidding.
  83. VideoGame.Guild Wars: Dark Is Not Evil: Neither the Necromancers or their divine patron, Grenth, are at all evil, and in Grenth's case, he's the usurper of a definitely corrupt deity, and he himself has no power over death, being advertised rather as a god of justice. Though, during Wintersday, Grenth can be kind of a dick.Of the three Necromancer heroes, Olias is frankly rather creepy. The Master of Whispers, whose real name is Jurah, is a solemn type much given to mysterious utterings. Livia is perhaps the most likeable of the three, being an idealistic young woman devoted to the Shining Blade and its cause of liberating Kryta from the White Mantle (and, in all honesty, for being as hot as the proverbial pistol). Ritualists as well. Ritualists cast spells by binding angry spirits with ethereal chains or channeling the raw anger of dead souls, but much like Necromancers, can be perfectly heroic people. Master Togo is a Ritualist, and he's arguably the nicest guy in the entire Factions campaign.
  84. Characters.Princess Tutu: Or the writer is, but when you're a character in a story, he might as well be God.
  85. Literature.Oracle Of Tao: Most of the horror elements do come from a form of Christianity, but it not only rejects Milton and the notion of Satan as tempter (Satan is an accuser, and is still working for God), but it takes Isaiah 45:7 to its logical extreme and asserts that God Is Good and God Is Evil. That God allows evil to happen to see if we will build character or reject God. It mentions the Mark of the Beast repeatedly but blames the evil of humanity, not Satan for it.
  86. WarpThatAesop.Tropes: The universe is run by a vindictive Jerkass, but you should just accept it because Might Makes Right.

  89. VideoGame.Soul Sacrifice: Sliding Scale of Idealism Versus Cynicism: The game starts very deeply in the cynical end of the scale, thanks to a Crapsack World setting filled with Eldritch Abominations caused by malevolent gods, and one of the gods entices mortals to make horrific sacrifices for their desires. Then little by little, notions like companionship, friendship, and especially hope, make their way into the plot, finally becoming a powerful force by the ending. As of Delta, the game finally climbs its top to the idealistic end, as humanity triumphs over the Gods, and the world is free from the Eternal Recurrence, all thanks to the efforts of the Player Character, Magusar, and Similia. While the game steps back a little from the idealistic end with a Hope Is Scary message, the idea of hope and changing the world for the better are ultimately the game's themes.
  90. Characters.Saikyou Juzoku Tensei Palgas Village: Knight Templar: She completely believes that Levi church and their god are justified in their conquest of the Dinrat Kingdom, to prevent the 'Evil' Goddess Kudor from awakening and destroying their god again, no matter how dirty their hands will get. That's until she learns what Nelgliffe and Levi are really like.

  92. Characters. The Locked Tomb The First House: His true nature in Harrow the Ninth; he's ultimately revealed to be deeply selfish, manipulative, and operating from his warped morals to single-mindedly pursue bloody revenge, all while lying for millennia to even his closest allies, who sacrificed everything for him. Exaggerated in Nona the Ninth, where it's revealed that he ascended to godhood by murdering all ten billion people on earth, and using the power to consume the planet's soul.
  93. EstablishingCharacterMoment.Video Games: Shin Megami Tensei games love this trope, with a healthy side order of World of Ham.Thor? Knocks out a kid with a brutal blow of his hammer and violently leeches his Life Energy to empower himself. Mara? Spouting Double Entendres one after another and ramming the screen. Matador? "I swear, by my sword and capote, that once again I will prove victorious!" Demiurge? "WORSHIP ME! THE CREATOR OF ALL, UNPARALLELED BY ANY!"His full form, YHVH? "Praise my name! Witness, bathed in the glory of my countenance! Praise my name!" Alice? "Will you die for me?" Sukuna-Hikona? "The one called Munakata no longer exists..."
  94. EvilVersusEvil.Literature: The theme of "evil against evil" is prevalent in the book The Exorcist, starting with Merrin's archaeological trip to Iranq where he finds a demon statue that the natives stated was an evil artifact to combat evil. This foreshadows Karras' "evil act" of accepting Pazuzu into himself, to save Regan.Shown Their Work : the demon's Pazuzu, Mesopotamian King of Wind Spirits, monster and main antagonist of the story. As Summon Bigger Fish noted, he was summoned (mainly by pregnant mothers) to combat his arch-enemy and wife, Lamashtu, who was known for killing or kidnapping young children.
  95. DarthWiki.Final Fantasy Homage: One of the four gods, Leviathan, turned against the other three many years ago and has been plotting The End of the World as We Know It ever since.
  96. TabletopGame.SLA Industries: Death World: The planet Mort is almost completely uninhabitable, and requires 'Atmosphere Generators' — each the size of a city — in order to maintain some semblance of a biosphere (and, coincidentally, keep the gravity in check). While Mort does have areas that are safe and even nice (like the Uptown region of Mort Central), huge swathes of Mort Central itself are abandoned by civilized society, and have evolved into thriving ecospheres of giant insects, cannibals, mutants, and raw malevolence. Though Operatives don't usually go there, the War Worlds are even worse. Once there, SLA Industries' soldiers have an average lifespan of a day. On the worst War Worlds, this can drop to just twenty minutes. White Earth, the domain of Bitterness and its thralls, makes even the War Worlds seem inviting.
  97. YMMV.Steven Universe: Everyone Is Satan in Hell: Some fans interpret Rose Quartz (and by extension Pink Diamond) as a Satan Is Good figure who frees the gems from the tyranny of the Great Diamond Authority, with the Crystal Gems being fallen angels who've defied their original purpose. This thread takes the idea to its logical conclusion by concluding that Steven himself is The Antichrist, that the statue of Obsidian references Baphomet and that Rose/Pink's backstory is a reference to Lucifer and his fall from grace.
  98. Characters.Magi The Labyrinth Of Magic Alma Toran: Ill Ilah is the name of Al-Thamen's "Father." And considering that its "destiny" is humanity suffering to then sooner or later being sucked dry of their lives. It is averted later in the story. Al Thamen actions are a result of Arba´s zealousy, if anything. Il Ilah is just... there.
  99. Recap. The Twilight Zone 1985 S 1 E 19: The Dispatcher claims that God Himself abdicated the duty of judging every soul to him, who follows His biblical standards so strictly that the innocent are indiscriminately thrown into Hell, simply because He was tired of the job.
  100. Pantheon.Transformations: She's heard enough about YHVH to know staying away from Him and not provoking His ire is for the best. Instead she considers The Love That Moves The Stars and God from God, the Devil and Bob to be the true God, the latter being the former's avatar. And they consider her a righteous soul worthy of Paradiso. The House of Angels is more mixed on her ascension, given that she was a normal human first. But most are fine with it.
