Team Freedom

    Nicole the Holo-Lynx
A sentient AI contained in a PDA from the previous world. Said PDA being found is what kickstarts the events of the story.
  • And I Must Scream: According her internal clock, she was trapped in her PDA body in the middle of nowhere for at least eight months fruitlessly sending out distress messages and calling for help. And that is not counting the time she spent in power saving mode to avoid completely shutting down aka death.
  • Artificial Intelligence: An unambiguously benevolent one, NICOLE is the resident tech expert for the Freedom Fighters. This is invaluable against someone like Eggman, who relies on tech for his plans. She also mainly acts as this for Sally, acting as her warning system and assisting her in using the various weapons Eggman installed in the robian.
  • The Atoner: Blames herself for Sally's robotization and sees it as her duty to stay strong and help Sally heal even though she's going through her own trauma and distress.
  • Benevolent A.I.: She’s an artificial intelligence who has a strong moral compass, willing to put herself in danger for the sake of her friends and the world.
  • Brainy Brunette: She is a super-smart artificial intelligence, and once she gains a digital form, she appears as a brown-haired lynx.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Hijacks Metal Sonic to shut him down in the climax of the Studiopolis arc thinking that he is just another drone controlled by Eggman like in the Archie comics. She proceeds to learn the very painful way that this is clearly not the case and nearly got her data consumed by Phage who Metal Sonic had installed in his software as security against hackers like her.
  • Dramatic Irony: Chapter 29 has her declare that Eggman hasn't dealt with anyone like her before, completely unaware of Sage's existence.
  • Furry Female Mane: Her digital form sports a distinctive hairstyle, to emphasize her "female" nature.
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: She started out as nothing much then a standard computer program that keeps the cast updated on Eggman. Eventually, she started to gain more of a personality till eventually she created a body of her own in a desire to interact more directly with her friends. After which, she had pretty much gained sentience, and is now considered no different than any other person by her friends and the people of Earth.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Got hit with this before the reboot thanks to The Iron Queen taking control of her and turning her against the citizens she wanted to protect. It's only made worse when Mina, having been traumatized by the occupation, tried to use her songs to spread messages warning about it to ensure that Nicole couldn't be Brainwashed and Crazy again and to vent her own frustrations, only for Ixis Naugus to use his Hate Plague to amplify the fear and hatred of Nicole brought about by both the songs and the Iron Queen's actions to turn the entire city against Nicole and get her banished from New Mobotropolis altogether. Nicole is still deeply hurt by this and becomes distraught when it looks like Whisper doesn't trust her.
  • Older Than They Look: If the memory she unlocked in Chapter 25 is true, she was once the head priestess/best friend of the 'Supreme Goddess' (who is heavily implied to be Sally Acorn's Mirror Character) during the times of the Ancients.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Due to the IDW world being much more reliant on the internet compared to the Archie world, her cyber abilities are nothing short of unstoppable magic unless you are prepared for them like Metal Sonic or the updated firewalls protecting New Mobotropolis. She is so advanced that Thunderbolt's bomb in Bunnie's left thigh which was protected by a 40 character long code that randomises monthly is so effortlessly disabled by her that it might as well not exist.
  • Noodle Incident: It is clear that something was done to her when the reboot occurred which led to NICOLE being trapped in her PDA body in the middle of nowhere at the start of the story, as anyone who read the Archie comics would know that she was in New Mobotropolis fighting off the Tails Doll when the Super Genesis Wave hit. The Return to New Mobotropolis arc reveals that when the wave hit the city, Sonic appeared in an unknown form and roped her into a plan to save everyone, stating this action is needed to beat "it".
  • Projected Woman: Given her being in a PDA, this is how she shows herself to others.
  • Trauma Button: She's still deeply affected by being exiled from New Mobotropolis and has a minor breakdown when Whisper begins distrusting her during the trip inside the ruins of the Death Egg.

    Tangle the Lemur
An always energetic member of The Restoration. While searching for Whisper, she found Nicole’s PDA and brought it back to her home where she and Whisper managed to release the lynx.
  • Animal Stereotypes: A hyperactive, cheerful and upbeat lemur, much like their stereotype.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Tangle is a scrappy fighter who is always fearless and jubilant in battle.
  • Boyish Short Hair: The large tuft of fur and short bangs on the top and back of her head, respectively, serve as this, giving her a very tomboyish look befitting of her very tomboyish personality.
  • Break the Cutie: The New Mobotropolis arc was this for her. Her big speech get rebuffed by an angry mob. She sees the memorial of the people lost to the SGW. Learns that she isn't considered a person and is more like an Empty Shell to fill in for the lost Archie cast. Eventually, the guilt of her supposed cost of existence culminates in a terrifying existential nightmare and Whisper of all people is the one that winds up comforting her. She perks up afterwards.
  • Carpet of Virility: The Shadow-like tufts of fur on her chest make Tangle a rare female example of this.
  • Cuddle Bug: She likes giving her friends huge hugs, often with her tail. She becomes very sad when Belle and Whisper purposefully avoid one of her group hugs.
  • Genki Girl: Excitable, energetic and friendly, even in the midst of an all-out firefight.
  • Genre Savvy: Part of the reason why she can comprehend the Cosmic Retcon is that years of reading comics has made her familiar with that term. This gets turned against her later on as the implications that she only exists due to the fallout of a "comic book reboot" firsthand sinks in.
  • The Heart: Functions as the emotional center of the group, her optimism helping to keep spirits up and doles out emotional support as needed.
  • Nice Girl: She's polite and friendly with almost everyone she meets. Sally’s actually shocked when Tangle strikes up a conversation with her just after she regained control of her body, considering that not that long ago Mecha Sally just tried to kill the lemur.
  • Odd Friendship: Her friendship with Whisper, Jewel, and Belle very much qualifies. She is loud, energetic, and self-confident, while the other three girls are much calmer and more nervous. This even extends to Sally and Nicole.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: After getting verbally assaulted by the citizens of New Mobotropolis for just existing and viewing the memorial of the people that were erased/rebooted due to being outside the city afterwards, it is clear that she is shaken emotionally even though she didn't show it yet. It affected her so much that she blew her top in Castle Acorn's throne room at Geoffrey (who is possessed by Ixis Naugus) and the rebooted Egg Bosses/Grandmasters after hearing about their heinous actions and dismissal of the IDW world, shocking her friends who never seen her like this before.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Is officially going out with Whisper as of Chapter 29.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Loves giving these to the Archie villains, calling Mecha Sally a coward who relies on playing mind games rather than actually fight, calling Mammoth Mogul just another supervillain who likes to monologue and Mordred Hood's obsession with class.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Despite being impulsive and easily distracted, she excels at thinking on her feet in a fight, Whisper noting she simply prefers the direct approach. She also frequently demonstrates profound emotional intelligence and insight, managing to identify and address many of her new friends hangups within a few days of meeting them.
  • Thrill Seeker: Lives on adrenaline and adventures. She pretty much jumps at joining Whisper and Nicole in their search of the Death Egg ruins and then joins Sally’s search for her friends just because she wants to go on adventures.
  • Tomboy: While Sally has been called one in the original Archie series, Tangle is a much more straightforward and pronounced example of the archetype. She's hyper, scrappy, boyish in appearance, and always eager to fight whatever Badnik comes her way.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Strawberries. Even the food truck sushi creation she got included them.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Gives a very big one to Sally after she verbally tore into a very downtrodden Mina Mongoose. While she understands Sally's beef with Mina due to her causing Nicole's banishment, working for Mammoth Mogul again and giving up on getting help for New Mobotropolis, Tangle also notes that Mina is clearly down in the dumps and tearing into her non-existent self esteem won't make anything better. As far as she is concerned, Mina is just another girl who needs help right now.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Makes it very clear to Sally that she is not to blame for what Mecha Sally had done, either to Tangle and Whisper or Nicole and Sally’s friends. And when Sally tries to assert that she isn’t strong the lemur dismisses it and says that when she came back she kicked Mecha Sally out, so her compression was more like her resting up for round two.
  • You Remind Me of X: She's on the receiving end as almost every pre-SGW character who interacts with her admit it's like they're talking to a genderbent Sonic with her attitude, a comparison she takes with pride given her Hero Worship of the guy.

    Whisper the Wolf
A much more shy member of The Restoration, last member of the Diamond Cutters mercenary group, and close friend of Tangle.
  • Army Scout: She had this role in the Diamond Cutters.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: She did not earn her title of "Guardian Angel of the Battlefield" during the Eggman War for nothing. Her analytical mind during the heat of combat is nothing short of terrifying.
    • In the gunfight against Fang the Hunter in Club Spin, she performs Counting Bullets on his blaster and subdues him in the moment he has to reload. She was also able to use the club's strobe lights to blind him by just calculating their projection angles.
    • When entering New Mobotroplis, she could tell that snipers and watchers were keeping an eye on Team Freedom and company, right down to the exact number and their locations.
  • BFG: As her profile pic aptly illustrates, her Wispon is nearly as long as she is tall.
  • Badass Adorable: Her cute face and timid personality make her so damn huggable, and like Sonic and the rest she can kick all kinds of ass.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: She's not much of a talker and rarely socializes. But she's one of the best sharpshooters of the heroes and impressive fighter all around. If she ever opens her eyes or, in extreme cases, raise her voice, expect things to get ugly fast.
  • Black Cloak: She typically wears a black cloak draped over her back, in which she conceals Wisp containers for her Variable Wispon.
  • Broken Bird: She has a friendly, if standoffish demeanor, but she has some trauma from the demise of the Diamond Cutters from Mimic's trap.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Has romantic feelings for Tangle, but just can't bring herself to tell her.
  • Commonality Connection: Due to her military background, she gets along the most with many of the military members of the New Mobotropolis Freedom Fighters, mainly Jules, Bernadette and Amadeus.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Sports a pair of fangs, consistent with wolf characters in Sonic Forces. Opening her mouth wide reveals a full set of pointy canine fangs.
  • Death Glare: Make her mad, and she'll give you one of these.
  • Eyes Always Shut: She's presented as always having her eyes closed, except when she is under very strong emotions such as anger, fear and distress.
  • Friendly Sniper: While she does have Wisps for close range combat, she works best as a sniper that fights from a distance.
  • Girls with Guns: Or Wispons, in this case. Her weapon is a special multi-mode one called a "Variable Wispon".
  • Good Is Not Soft: While less ruthless than Shadow or Omega, Whisper hates Eggman and Mimic for what they've done to her and will kill them in cold blood if she isn't held back. She outright tells Sally that had Tangle not been there she would've just killed Mimic, and even then she still wanted to do it.
  • Hidden Depths: Has an eye for fashion, being the one that picked out Sally's current outfit, and if Tangle is to be believed, has quite the sense of humour.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her hair covers the right side of her face. It's also where she places her mask when not in use.
  • Jerkass Realization: She's much more suspicious about Nicole's motives in the beginning than Tangle, and when the situation onboard the Death Egg starts to seem more and more like a trap she makes her suspicions about the lynx known. It’s when Tangle points out how emotionally distressed Nicole is and that she trusts her that the wolf relents.
  • Meaningful Name: Whisper mainly speaks by whispering, though it wasn't always the case in the past.
    • Her name also sounds similar to "Wisp", the creatures she uses as ammo for her Morph Weapon.
    • She is known to fight from a distance, sometimes as an expert sniper. She relies on stealth unless necessary, which requires her to be quiet at times.
  • Morph Weapon: Unlike most Resistance Wispons, her staff is a prototype "Variable Wispon" that can reconfigure itself based on various Wisps that attach to it (a hammer for Cube, a Boom Stick for Rocket, etc.). To elaborate:
    • Boom Stick: With her Orange Wisp in, her Variable Wispon can shoot orange energy missiles.
    • Carry a Big Stick: With her Blue Wisp in, she can use her Variable Wispon as a hammer and powerful melee weapon.
    • Deadly Disc: With her Pink Wisp in, her Variable Wispon can shoot pink sawblades made of energy.
    • Flight: With her Green Wisp in, she can use her Variable Wispon to fly in the air.
    • Ray Gun: With her Cyan Wisp in, her Variable Wispon can shoot cyan laser beams.
  • Noble Wolf: She's a wolf, and she's one of the good guys.
  • Not So Above It All: Whisper joins in on poking fun at Tangle’s disdain for ‘old’ music, telling her to broaden her music horizons, and is also giddy to get an autographed copy of her favorite movie from her favorite director in Studiopolis.
  • Not So Stoic: Whisper absolutely loses it on Mecha Sally when the robian hurts Tangle, screaming that she won’t hurt the lemur again while laying on the beatdown.
  • Properly Paranoid: She’s right to feel on edge inside the Death Egg, because it was a trap. Specifically, it was Mecha Sally and Eggman’s trap for the Freedom Fighters should they come searching for Sally in the rebooted world.
  • Punny Name: Whisper usually whispers and also has Wisp buddies which she uses as fuel for her Variable Wispon.
  • The Quiet One: She rarely speaks in complete sentences and mostly in whispers, as her name suggests. She usually only talks more when she’s alone with one other person and that’s mostly with Tangle, though she does open up a bit to Sally after her fight with Rough and Tumble.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Is officially going out with Tangle as of Chapter 29.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She's introverted and not very sociable, but she's pretty nice when she opens up to people.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: Whisper wields a Wispon designed to use any kind of Wisp, with varying abilities depending on whom is loaded into it.
  • Terse Talker: Whisper doesn't like to talk to other people, and when she does, she speaks in short clipped sentences. Even when she has to give long explanations, her sentences are brief and to-the-point.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Pound cake, which she gets at the food truck with the rest of the team.

    Sally Acorn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_0071.png
Current Robian Leader of Team Freedom
Princess of Mobius, she is stuck a Robian due to the events of her former world.
  • And I Must Scream: Her fate under Mecha Sally, which included being compressed behind a firewall to make it impossible for her to natively regain control.
  • Broken Ace: She’s a skilled fighter and leader with years of experience and is trapped in a robotic body that is comparable to Metal Sonic in terms of ability. She's also seriously messed up from the Trauma Conga Line she's been put through over the course of her life, especially her roboticization and the Cosmic Retcon. She's slowly starting to lose the broken part though.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Does fall into this occasionally, like reminding Tangle that they’re around the same age when the lemur accuses her of being old.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: Due to being born and raised in Mobius and living under a world controlled by Robotnik/Eggman, it takes her a while to get used to the more peaceful Earth with its very different culture.
  • Forced to Watch: She had been forced to watch as Eggman tore apart her body to make her a more effective weapon. It’s made worse by her AI counterpart rubbing the situation in her face.
  • Flying Brick: Due to still having the body and powers of Mecha Sally, which includes rockets on her feet.
  • Genre Savvy: After Rough and Tumble were arrested, Sally notes that it will only be a matter of time before they get busted out of prison. Several chapters later, news of the skunk brothers' jailbreak were made public.
  • Good Is Not Soft: As a reminder about how ruthless the Archie world is compared to the IDW one, she casually notes in the Acorn throne room fight that if it wasn't for Conquering Storm hijacking the body of her IDW self who is an innocent civilian, she would've dismembered Conquering Storm and not lose any sleep over it.
  • Heel Realization: Sally has one when she remembers she actually tried to defend her father's decision to commit genocide against the Robians, making her realize she does not have the right to judge Mina for being forced to work for Mammoth Mogul.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: As most of her weapons are locked behind various protocols installed by Eggman, she needs NICOLE to assist in activating or deactivating them when needed.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: Ultimately what allows her to bury the hatchet with Mina Mongoose. For all of her justifiable complaints toward Mina, Sally herself realizes that she has her own fair share of terrible mistakes after some self-reflection and is in no place to judge. Her faith in both her irrational father and the corrupted Source (Though to be fair, Sally never truly trusted 'The source of all') nearly led to a mass genocide of innocent robians and an arranged marriage with Patch. Any notions that all this is wrong got buried by her own delusions. And this isn't counting all of the mistakes she did afterwards.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Chapter 23 ends has Team Freedom surrounded in throne room by the Reborn Raiju Clan, three Egg Bosses (Conquering Storm, Mordred Hood and Beauregard Rabbot), at least several Royal Knights and Ixis Naugus himself giving them an ultimatum to surrender while their heaviest hitter (Silver) is removed from the field thanks to a Tranquillizer Dart. Sally immediately orders everyone to fight their way out of the throne room instead of fighting to win.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: She was unaware of NICOLE making up with Mina for the concert back in the Archie canon, as she was Mecha Sally at that time. Learning this fact after her verbal beatdown of Mina in Club Spin knocks her off her high horse.
  • Mental World: To help deal with her loss of senses, NICOLE created a virtual simulation of Knothole in her system that Sally can access and interact with using a virtual avatar of her original body whenever she enters power-saving mode. While Sally is overjoyed, she knows that this is can only be a temporary respite as she can't run away from her reality as a robian, no matter how painful it is.
  • Mode Lock: Due to her "upgrades", she's stuck with her roboticized body. To elaborate, on top of scrapping her original body, Eggman even downloaded the Dreamcast Protocol into her during the events of World's Collide, a protocol that will trap her as Eggman's mechanical enforcer even in the face of reality being rewritten. After reality has been rewritten, she will send out various distress signals pried from her brain to lure the local variant of the Freedom Fighters to their doom if Eggman isn't around. If there are no one familiar around to pick them up, Sally would simply rust in the Death Egg indefinitely.
  • No-Sell: She is immune to all biological attacks like Rough and Tumble's Stinkbomb Special as her body is mechanical.
  • Not So Above It All: Often joins in on the banter with the rest of her teammates when they’re relaxing.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Sally doesn’t forgive herself for just going along with everything her father ordered her to do like almost marrying Patch, and even hates herself for trying to excuse Max’s behavior by saying his order to kill all the robians was a “pragmatic” decision. She also still hasn’t forgiven herself for slapping Sonic.
  • Pantsless Males, Fully-Dressed Females: Only wore a vest and a pair of boots on Mobius, but deducing how the women on Earth now wear full sets of clothing and wanting to hide her robian body makes Sally wear an outfit that covers most of her body. Though she does admit that even if she wasn’t a robian, she likely would've worn a full outfit from peer pressure alone.
  • Pro-Human Transhuman: Pro-mobian transmobian to be more precise. Slowly, Sally is forced to adjust to the various upgrades that her body now has when she joins the Restoration. She notes that she moves a lot faster on foot thanks to not feeling exhaustion or needing to breathe, and can even take more damage in a fight than her organic body.
  • Tomboy Princess: She's had to fight for her throne as a resistance fighter for 10 years. As a result, she has no problem getting her hands dirty. She's an expert martial artist and acrobat, and is good with a firearm. However, she isn’t nearly as boyish as Tangle.
  • Trauma Button:
    • She reacts negatively to any work to her body, due to her Eggman sadistically forcing her to witness the "upgrades" he made to her body. She forces herself to start confronting this problem since she recognizes this will only hinder her in the long run as getting repairs will become the new norm for her.
    • She also undergoes panic attacks whenever she loses control over her body as it is a reminder of her days as Eggman's slave, as shown when Snively performed remote access on her.
  • Unwilling Roboticization: Inverted, as her roboticization was the result of a Heroic Sacrifice. Played straight with the "upgrades" she was given, which involved removing most of her original body without her consent.

    Silver the Hedgehog
The time-traveling hedgehog from the future, here looking for Sally Acorn. An interaction with Nicole gave him his pre-reboot memories.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Despite the fic taking place in a universe based on the games, Silver's personality is much closer to that of his Archie Comics counterpart, being far more socially awkward and childish than how he is in the games. However it’s still noted that there are some differences compared to his Mobius self, to the point that Silver has a hard time considering them to be the same person.
  • Mind over Matter: Like his game counterpart, he is capable of levitation and telekinesis.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Quickly regrets his info-dump on Nicole and Sally for accidentally ruining their hopes.
  • My Greatest Failure: Despite it being noted to not technically being the same person, Silver is still ashamed for the actions of his Mobius self and blames himself for the multiversal reboot.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Spills the current situation of the Cosmic Retcon to Sally and Nicole, crushing their hopes of seeing their old friends. Justified from having to process suddenly having his pre-reboot memories restored. He does try to make amends later.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Played for Horror, as it's explained he has to re-learn history, current events, and even the names of his parents and friends each time he changes the future.
  • Story-Breaker Power: His psychokinesis is so overpowered compared to the rest of Team Freedom with the exception of Blaze that in major fights, he is the first to go down to prevent the rest of the heroes from being made redundant.
    • In the climax of the Studiopolis arc, Metal Sonic registers him as the biggest threat and puts him out of commission immediately.
    • In the Return to New Mobotropolis arc, before the clash in the throne room even begins, he was rendered unconscious by a Tranquillizer Dart blown from a hidden Reborn Raiju Clan ninja to prevent him from just freezing most of the villains in place. He even sounds annoyed from that, yelling an "Oh come on…!" before collapsing.
  • Timey-Wimey Ball: Silver technically should not exist due to all the changes he makes to the past, but his time traveling also made him "unstuck from time" and causes him to continue to exist no matter what he does to change the past. However, this also leaves him constantly coming back to a future that's radically different from the last. Sometimes even his parents become people he doesn't recognize.
  • Tragic Time Traveler: Seems to always be the poor guy's lot in life. The reason why he’s a part of Team Freedom is because something in the past happened that erased his future completely. However it’s shown that constantly going to the past to save the future affects him, because he keeps changing the past he constantly changes the future as well. Which in turn causes major differences which include his parents and friends sometimes being totally different people. It’s happened so much that he notes he’s sort of become numb about it.

    Blaze the Cat
Princess from the Sol Dimension, she visits Studiopolis on vacation before meeting and joining the team.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: In the games, Blaze can only shoot fire in her Super Mode. Much like in the Archie and IDW comics, she has this ability in her base form. It is implied that her innate connection to the Sol Emeralds is the reason why.
  • And Then What?: Ultimately what makes her knowledge of the Pre-SGW world useless after the reboot. Not only is she not familiar said world, her casually breaking the bad news to the cast isn't exactly a good idea, as shown with Sally and Nicole's poor reactions to Silver's reveal.
  • Badass in Distress: Got herself captured covering the rest of Team Freedom and company's escape courtesy of a gang up by multiple Egg Bosses. Chapter 29 reveals that she is strapped to a machine and is under constant sedation.
  • Guardian of the Multiverse: As the guardian of the Sol Emeralds and Jeweled Scepter, Blaze considers it her duty to protect the multiverse by ensuring their safety.
  • Hidden Depths: As it turns out, Blaze was very interested to see how Earth’s pop culture differed from the Sol Dimension which is why she went to Studiopolis in the first place.
  • No-Sell: She is immune to getting possessed due to the Sol Emeralds' protection, as Ixis Naugus found out the very hard way.
  • Playing with Fire: As her namesake suggests, she can wield fire with ease. She can also put them out just as easily, as Bean found out with his bombs getting constantly defused.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Due to the Jeweled Scepter, she retains full knowledge of the pre-SGW universe.

Other Main Characters

    Julie-Su
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_0226.jpeg
Ex-Dark Legionnaire and Knuckles’ Lover
A dimension-hopping Echidna that is thrilled to be back in her home dimension, only to quickly realize a lot of things have changed since she was last here...
  • Badass in Distress: Was banished to another world by Thrash and forced to work for Lien-Da under the threat of her, Saffron, and the rest of her people’s death.
  • Cain and Abel: Despised by Lien-Da and Kragok who disposed of her as child. The feeling was mutual and Julie-Su took her revenge on Lien-Da for everything her half-sister forced her to do.
  • Child Soldiers: Was one as a member of the Dark Legion, and fell back on said training during her multiversal exile to try and numb herself to her actions.
  • Cyborg: Was given an artificial eye by Lien-Da and also has an arm that doubles as a chainsaw. It allows Saffron to find her.
  • Fantastic Racism: As a result of her traumatic experiences with the Dark Brotherhood, Julie-Su is incredibly hostile to towards Gizoids, which unfortunately includes Gemerl. Even when it's made clear that he's not a soulless war machine like the ones she's used to dealing with, Julie-Su remains ready to scrap at a moment's notice. While she does eventually ease up around Gemerl, his presence still makes her incredibly uncomfortable.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: She has an even tougher time adjusting to Earth than Sally does, to the point of denial and having a Freak Out when it can no longer be denied.
  • Freak Out: Julie-Su has one due to the existential horror of being in a rebooted universe and finding out that the Knuckles and Sonic she thought was helping her, Saffron, and the echidnas escape Cyber Space and get back to Mobius didn’t actually know who they were and weren’t looking for them. And, because of that, realizing that all the horrors she committed to get back home were All for Nothing. She is only able to snap out of it after hitting Saffron and realizing what she had done.
  • I Reject Your Reality: Julie-Su is so traumatized and desperate to get home that she refuses to acknowledge that something is clearly wrong with her zone despite the massive amount of evidence, coming up with increasingly flimsy excuses to justify the changes. When the evidence starts to become undeniable she’s convinced it is some kind of trick or a cruel joke, before being forced to accept the truth.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She can be rough and butt heads with others a lot, but deep down, she cares for people. Even though she’s going through a lot she takes time to assure an obviously troubled Cream that everything will be okay.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Runs off in guilt after she punched Saffron in her struggle to accept that Earth isn't the same as the Mobius she remembered.
  • Pantsless Males, Fully-Dressed Females: She runs into this problem when she and Saffron leave Angel Island, as many people find themselves averting their eyes from her in embarrassment at how little she's wearing, especially without any undergarments. She initially thinks they're reacting to her cybernetics until one well-meaning person hesitantly asks what her pronouns are supposed to be, and so she and Saffron end up using this as an excuse to get new clothing to replace their tattered ones anyways (after Julie has an explosion of temper and incredulity). Julie-Su still finds it utterly ridiculous while wondering to herself if Naugus instituted the rule when he managed to become king, and she draws the line at wearing a dress or skirt while only going for a pair of shorts.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: It's abundantly clear that the physical and mental toil of fighting for Lien-Da, raiding multiple Zones containing alternates of her friends and family and all-but-stated to have killed some of them for supplies, trying to act as a support for Saffron and the other non-Dark Legion echidnas, and planning her mutiny against Lien-Da while constantly fighting the paranoia of the Dark Legion traitors turning on her has badly shaken her. She repeatedly has flashbacks and dissociative episodes from triggers or even just out of nowhere back to those bad memories, much to the concern of everyone around her.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Tomboy to Saffron's Girly Girl.

    Saffron Bee
Julie-Su’s close friend, she was Charmy’s one time fiancé and later care-taker before being stuck dimension hopping with Julie-Su.
  • Action Girlfriend: Not quite as tough the other Chaotix are, but capable of fighting alongside them. This only became more pronounced during her exile where she’d often have to fight alongside Julie-Su.
  • Ascended Extra: Much more prominent here than in the original Archie comics, where she was little more than Charmy's Satellite Love Interest.
  • Cyborg: Has a robotic antenna as part of being under Lien-Da’s leadership. Proves useful for finding Julie-Su after she runs off in guilt for punching her.
  • Devoted to You: Her love for Charmy remained even through the loss of their Hive and Charmy's being so brain-damaged by his time in the Egg Grapes that he mentally reverted to childhood. She stood by him through it all. The fact that Charmy was going to be without her during the exile drove Saffron to near hysterics when she realized this. The cruel irony is that, due to the Cosmic Retcon, Charmy not only has no idea who she is, but has gone from a brain-damaged teenager to an actual child.
  • Fallen Princess: She was set to wed Charmy, the crown prince of the Golden Hive, before Eggman burned the colony to the ground. Then the Cosmic Retcon happened.
  • Fantastic Racism: Like Julie-Su, she does not trust Gizoids, for understandable reasons.
  • My Greatest Failure: Considers never truly reaching out to Julie-Su despite the obvious warning signs of the echidna’s emotional distress to be this.
  • Tears of Joy: Tearjerking example as she realized that while her Charmy may be gone, but at least he no longer has to suffer like he did in the old world.
Saffron: No…No, it's… it's… [the corner of her mouth twitched] I… I'm actually relieved.
Vector: Wait, what?! How can you be…?!
Saffron: Because… because Charmy doesn't have to suffer anymore.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Girly Girl to Julie-Su's Tomboy.

Other members of The Restoration

    Sonic the Hedgehog
The greatest hero of Mobius and Earth, having saved the world countless times across even universal reboots.
  • Accidental Hero: He didn't know it at the time, but his victories after fighting GIGANTO and WYVERN ended up revealing and opening gateways in Cyberspace that allowed the banished echidnas to finally make it back to Earth, ending their long exile.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: In New Mobotropolis, Naugus used the confusion and panic in the aftermath of the Super Genesis Wave to cast Sonic as a failure who screwed up the Cosmic Retcon and now is living life carefree having written them all off. To emphasize it, on New Mobotropolis' "memorial" for everyone who was erased/reset by the Super Genesis Wave, Sonic is not present.
  • The Lost Lenore: To Sally given he's been rebooted without any memories of his Mobius self, including of their relationship.
  • The Paragon: Whether on Mobius or Earth, Sonic is seen as the pinnacle of heroism for leading the charge against Dr. Eggman and any other villains showing up, having inspired and lifted up so many others along the way. When Sally arrives in New Mobotropolis and sees the tyrant state Naugus has turned it into, she's furious that the resistance fighters hadn't attempted to contact him since she knows from the stories she's heard from this universe's inhabitants that this Sonic, even without memories of Mobius, would have dropped everything to charge right in and kick Naugus off his high horse to save them.
  • Put on a Bus: As he's currently on Starfall Islands dealing with another crisis, he's simultaneously both out of the way of the other villains working their own machinations and a major goal of Team Freedom to reach, which also gives the latter the time to shine foiling the former in his stead.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: It's commented by Bunnie that Sonic doesn't really have any sort of "formal" fighting style and just hits what he hits, but when you've got the Super-Speed to call yourself the Fastest Thing Alive it works out pretty well.

    Jewel the Beetle
The beleaguered leader of The Restoration and best friend of Tangle.
  • Butt-Monkey: All the events of the fic, from the reveal of the universal reboot to the return of the echidnas, add stress and paperwork to Jewel's already busy schedule.
  • Covert Pervert: It’s hinted that she got several viruses on her laptop thanks to porn which Nicole offers to clean up, and she demands Tangle and Whisper not to judge her when they put the pieces together.
  • Flight: As a beetle, Jewel can fly, but it's presented as a civilian asset rather than a superpower. Unlike Charmy and Saffron, she simply uses hers for ambulation.
  • Mission Control: She takes over Amy's position as head of The Restoration. As she's a self-admitted non-combatant and even stated to enjoy organizing things, Amy has no problem handing leadership over to her.
  • Old Friend: She and Tangle have been friends since childhood.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Girly Girl to Tangle's Tomboy.

    Belle the Tinkerer
A puppet-esque robot built by Eggman’s brief alter-ego “Mr. Tinker”. She does repair-work for The Restoration.
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Metal Sonic's Cain.
  • Cartoon Creature: Belle isn't supposed to be a depiction of any specific animal species.
  • Gag Nose: In fitting with her Cartoon Creature look, Belle's nose is much larger and rounder than most characters', on top of being a bright pastel pink. It also honks when squeezed, much to her embarrassment; she even makes a vow to scrap Tangle’s bike when she finds out the lemur told Sally about it beforehand.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Belle has a big pair of these as her default hairstyle.
  • The Klutz: Belle is considerably accident-prone, often knocking stuff over or randomly falling down.
  • Punny Name: Her title is one in conjunction with her name i.e: Tinker Bell.
  • Ridiculously Human Robot: Or "Ridiculously Mobian Robot", in this case. Her design is lifelike, having natural-looking blue eyes instead of the usual Glowing Mechanical Eyes; and not only does she have an articulated mouth, she even has teeth and a tongue.
  • Robot Girl: Belle's a robot made out of wood.
  • Token Heroic Orc: She is a badnik created by Eggman during his time as Mr. Tinkerer. However, she is not programmed for combat and has free will which shocks Sally and Nicole. Belle herself doesn’t advertise her origins, however. But she does make it clear that she sees all badniks having the potential to be peaceful and helpful, and part of the reason why most aren’t is because Eggman doesn’t give them a choice in the matter.
  • Wrench Wench: She's a good mechanic despite her clumsiness, able to help repair and remodel Sally with only a set of blueprints given to her by Nicole.
  • Youthful Freckles: Being a marionette-like robot, Belle has these literally painted on.

Secret Freedom Fighters

    In General
  • Dirty Business: Even back on Mobius, it turns out they were willing to do underhanded things such as assassinate political figures in other nations that threatened to pull their support away from the Acorn Kingdom if they came into power or supply arms to groups like the Sand Blast Freedom Fighters, all to ensure there would remain as much resistance against the likes of Eggman and Naugus as possible. Even now when they're still dedicated to freeing New Mobotropolis from Naugus' grip, they do so while acting under harsh secrecy and a willingness to murder people like Mina Mongoose just to avoid a "loose end" falling into enemy hands.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: In a stark contrast to their original portrayal in Archie, the whole team has fallen under this due to their shadiness and refusal to work with the Restoration or the outside world in general. To list their actions so far:
    • They still fight against the tyranny of King Naugus. It is later revealed that they are also sending external aid to the New Mobotropolis Freedom Fighters and giving Jules and Bernadette supplies to survive in their hideout. However, they refuse to directly co-operate beyond that and keep a lot of info and secrets to themselves.
    • They (primarily Elias) refer to the IDW cast as "Genesis Births" to supposedly sort out the rebooted Archie cast from them instead of their names, not unlike Naugus who call them "Shades" to dehumanize them.
    • In the Mina Moongoose retrieval mission, Hershey's second order of action, one fully sanctioned by Harvey, was to shoot Mina dead when saving her was a failure.
    • During the Eggman War, they were in action against Eggman with any chance to kill Infinite being green-lit.
    • While Hershey keeping her true identity a secret is understandable due to the sheer ridiculousness of the truth, this doesn't excuse bugging the Restoration and stealing info as it was revealed later on when Jewel did a full sweep of the HQ.
    • Their logic as to why they never try to get the Restoration or even just Sonic himself to directly intervene in New Mobotropolis is to "prevent what happened in here from spreading to the rest of the world".
    • Whatever Operation "Brave New World" is. It is apparently something so drastic that it was only kept between Harvey and Elias until Team Freedom entered New Mobotropolis. Chapter 28 implies that it is something to do with "bringing back the ones who were lost to the SGW" but the cost is apparently something so extreme that it is making their individual members getting second thoughts.

    Elias Acorn
Former king of the Kingdom of Acorn, Sally's older brother and leader of the Secret Freedom Fighters. Has been...changed due to being caught in Cyber Space during the Super Genesis Wave.
  • Arc Villain: Is being set up as one of the main antagonists of the New Mobotropolis arc due to the Secret Freedom Fighters' "deboot" plan.
  • Came Back Wrong: Has been suffering from dissociative episodes after returning from Cyber Space, often involving concerning ramblings. It's implied that this is due to encountering THE END during the Super Genesis Wave.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The reunion with his sister at the end of Chapter 29 is this for him. While he is indeed overjoyed to reunite with his sister again, his demeanor completely flips when Tangle introduces herself. He completely ignores her and Whisper as if they don't exist while he talks to the others in the room. This understandably baffles Sally to the core, as she never seen her brother act like such a jerk before.
  • Fantastic Racism: It becomes clear as the story goes on that he doesn't think of "Genesis Births" as being "actual" people compared to individuals from Mobius, viewing the former as products of Eggman destroying their reality and erasing too many innocents to count. And as such he is fully willing to sacrifice all of them in order to "deboot" the world back to Mobius.
  • It's All My Fault: Elias fully blames himself for Sally's robotization and separation from the pre-SGW universe characters.
  • On the Rebound: It’s hinted that he's currently in a relationship with both Lyco and Leeta, but it's not healthy in the slightest because he's only doing it thanks to losing his wife, his daughter, his sister, and his world along with still being traumatized by THE END.
  • Puppet King: When he took over Knothole while Max was out of commission, Elias, inexperienced and desperate for help, agreed to be this to Geoffrey St. John, who manipulated him into doing such things as stripping Sonic of his knighthood and placing him under house arrest in Knothole Village. St. John's half-assed advice eventually leads to Elias cracking and abandoning the throne for over a year.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Formerly The Wise Prince, Elias' better nature has taken a double-whammy from both his wife and child being erased by the Super Genesis Wave and seeing THE END, to the point he has to physically hold himself back from having angry outbursts about the "Genesis Births". Sally and Silver, who both had seen his better nature many times, find the contrast more than a little startling.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Like Sally, he struggled to earn his father's approval. This clashes with his duty as King, and deciding to reform the kingdom into a Republic only made their relationship more difficult.

    Hershey St. John
A newer member of The Restoration. She’s actually a double agent for the Secret Freedom Fighters, and remembers Mobius well.
  • All for Nothing: When the Mina's extraction goes sour due her mistaking the Secret Freedom Fighters for Geoffrey's men and breaking herself out, Hershey resorts to her Plan B which is shooting Mina dead to silence her which was subsequently foiled by Sally. As the wolf sisters point out to her afterwards, Mina and Team Freedom could've met in Club Spin meaning that the former would've spilled what happened in New Mobotropolis post-SGW, making killing her completely unnecessary. There is also the fact that Silver recognised them during the fight, meaning that he could've told everyone about his life as Agent Ace of the Secret Freedom Fighters. The only thing the murder attempt achieved was expose Hershey herself to Team Freedom and burn the bridges she made with the Restoration due her espionage being discovered.
  • Dirty Business: Was basically Harvey Who’s Black-Ops agent, doing missions that the Freedom Fighters and Geoffrey never would have done such as political assassinations to maintain Station Square’s support and giving weapons to the Sand-Blasters so that they can continue keeping Eggman’s forces busy. Hershey may not particularly like doing this, but she does it because she believes it’s the only way she can help Sonic and Sally in order to atone for her mistakes during Endgame. It continues on Earth with being willingly to comply with Harvey's orders to shoot Mina dead if retrieving her wasn't possible, though at least here the sheer dirtiness starts to cut through her own justifications.
  • It's All My Fault: Blames herself for Geoffrey's actions, as her husband was in the process of making a Heel–Face Turn before she faked her death and caused him to go right back to serving Naugus.
  • My Greatest Failure: Still feels guilty over falling for Drago's plan which resulted in her nearly killing Sally and getting Sonic imprisoned. Her desire to atone and serve her kingdom is the reason why she starts to work for Harvey Who.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Drago's, who manipulated her into almost killing Sally. And by Geoffrey originally, he had recruited her to his team as a decoy if his own plans fell apart.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Subverted in that she did try to just shoot Infinite when she had the chance... and it turned out to be an illusion. Making things worse, he quickly homed in on her position as he knew that her hiding spot was perfect for snipers due to his past as a mercenary. He not only subjected her to a brutal Mind Rape by having her be beaten by a construct of Drago while being insulted by a construct of Geoffrey, but extracted information about the Secret Freedom Fighters as well, only keeping it to himself out of sadism.

    Lyco and Leeta
A duo of wolf sisters who are part of the Secret Freedom Fighters and work alongside Hershey.
  • Animal Theme Naming: As with most members of the Wolf Pack, Lyco's name is derived from a word for wolf; in this case, the Greek "lykos."
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: Their outfits being Color-Coded for Your Convenience.
  • On the Rebound: It’s hinted that they are both in a relationship with Elias by Hershey, but it's not at all depicted as healthy since its obvious that they’re only doing it because they are still traumatized after their encounter with THE END.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Somewhat justified since they were short on time, but their attempts to rescue Mina without revealing their existence has them pretend to be lackeys of Eggman. The person in question (Mina) sees through the ruse but believes they were sent by the other group after her instead, and redoubles their efforts to escape, making the whole situation worse.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Repeatedly make it clear to Hershey that they are sick of standing by as their friends suffer, which led to Mogul picking up Mina before they could.
    • The duo gave an even bigger one to Hershey after the fight in Studiopolis in regards to Hershey's murder attempt of Mina, drilling into her the various variables that made it pointless like Mina and Team Freedom meeting up in Club Spin along with Silver's memories. They declared that if Mina was shot dead, they would've dragged Elias all the way to Restoration HQ to make him spill everything.

    Larry Lynx
Larry Lynx, "super jinx." Never has a title been more appropriate, as Larry is a living embodiment of bad luck. After meeting Sonic, he eventually gained some confidence and eventually became the leader of the Substitute Freedom Fighters... only for the group to disband. Thanks to Harvey Who, Larry was back in action as the Secret Freedom Fighters' "Agent Joker"… before the Super Genesis Wave happened, and being a Freedom Fighter became a lot more complicated.
  • Butt-Monkey: Thanks to his luck, he’s often the butt of several misfortunes including being slobbered on by Muttski.
  • The Jinx: Bad things usually happen to everyone around him. This became a problem for the Substitute Freedom Fighters during his debut, but becomes a valuable asset, especially during his return to join the Secret Freedom Fighters.
  • My Greatest Failure: Before being recruited by Harvey, Larry was really depressed over the Substitute Freedom Fighter thing not working out.
  • Only Friend: Is hinted to be the only one still on good terms with Hamlin, though he does admit that the pig is “a lot”.
  • Only Sane Man: Seems to be the only member of the Secret Freedom Fighters that isn’t traumatized or deeply damaged by the events of the Super Genesis Wave and the wars of Mobius. He is also the member of the Secret Freedom Fighters that is the most reluctant to go through with the "deboot" due to outright horror at the plan.

    Harvey Who
The former director of Secret Intelligence and the current director of the Secret Freedom Fighters. Harvey Who aided in the battle with Robotnik, but retired soon after - only to be convinced to help Elias regain the throne and stop Ixis Naugus. However, it’s then revealed that he had been operating since Robo-Robotnik came to Mobius. After recruiting Hershey the Cat he began to manipulate events from behind the scenes, and is currently working with both Elias and Uncle Chuck on something that will affect the new world…
  • Ascended Extra: Appeared in one story way-back-when, and then disappeared forever - that is, until he was brought back to serve as the director for the Secret Freedom Fighters.
  • Cassandra Truth: Harvey warned Max not to trust Kodos, Naugus or Robotnik and not to exile Nate Morgan only for the king to repeatedly ignore him.
  • The Idealist: In his own broken way, Harvey fully believes that Sonic and Sally can save their world. But in order to do that, they need to keep their hands clean and thus it falls on him and Hershey to do the dirty work so that those children don’t have to.
  • My Greatest Failure: It's implied a big part of why he's so willing to engage in Dirty Business is the personal belief that standing by when Max refused to listen to him about Kodos, Naugus, Robotnik, or Nate Morgan only brought unneeded suffering, and so he needs to be willing to do what he thinks is right no matter what anyone else says.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • In order to allow her to freely investigate the creation of the second Death Egg and Mammoth Mogul creating his protection spell, his decision to have Hershey fake her death to prevent Ixis Naugus from getting suspicious pretty much caused the Geoffrey's return to villainy and Naugus becoming king.
    • Him being behind giving Hershey the order to kill Mina if extracting her became impossible only ends up stirring up division amongst their ranks when Lyco and Leeta both give hell for it, not to mention giving Sally an obvious clue that the Secret Freedom Fighters might not be on the up-and-up anymore.
  • Realpolitik: Performs actions that wouldn’t look out of place in the real world or a spy thriller, such as arranging political assassinations of anti-Acorn Kingdom politicians and weapons dealing with the Sand-Blasters. Actions which he believed maintained stability and order on Mobius and would eventually lead to Sonic & Sally finally beating Eggman.

    Mina Mongoose
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_0137_50.png
Lead Singer of the Forget Me Knots
A former popstar from Mobius, who is given a punk makeover to become a star on Earth.
  • Believing Their Own Lies: Originally, she did her concert in New Mobotropolis because of her trauma over what had happened during the occupation of the Iron Dominion. She purposefully made her song to convey how much of a monster she saw Nicole and to call out the Freedom Fighters. However, after being told about how much Nicole suffered Mina realized she was persecuting a real person. She convinced herself that her concert was actually about empowering the citizens to fight for themselves and ask questions, and all that happened was that the people got the message wrong. After the SGW and seeing New Mobotropolis descend further into tyranny, Mina realized how much she had been lying to herself and in turn lied to Nicole, making her apology to the lynx not genuine.
  • Break the Cutie: Let's see. Her day gets scrambled by the Super Genesis Wave which left her blind and deaf for a while, only to watch Geoffrey crown himself king of New Mobotropolis after stating that Naugus sacrificed himself to save the citizens from the Cosmic Retcon while naming him the successor. She witnesses Sonic being made the fall guy of all their problems. Her attempts to sing some sense into the citizens gets shut down by her own boyfriend Ash who doesn't want to get her taken prisoner for dissent. The Forget Me Knots and Ash get themselves arrested in her place to let her escape and find Sonic. She finds Sonic but cracks when he doesn't know her. Gets an existential crisis when she finds out from a nearby library that everyone and everything she knows doesn't exist on Earth. She later becomes a vagrant wondering from city to city, before settling in Akira's café. She runs into the rebooted Chaotix which triggers another breakdown and causes her to run away while only leaving a goodbye note. By the time Mammoth Mogul's men find her wandering Studiopolis, she is left a hollow husk of a person. It wasn't until Team Freedom runs into her in Club Spin as Mogul planned that things get better for her, and even then she has to deal with an angry Sally's "The Reason You Suck" Speech, being nearly kidnapped by the Hooligans and especially the IDW-Bunnie, and finally getting grabbed by Metal Sonic himself, who fully intended to kill her over his own grudges against the pre-rebooted universe in general and her relationships with Sonic and Sally specifically before she can finally start moving forward by patching things up with Sally.
  • Evil Costume Switch: Downplayed, she's given an edgy punk makeover that symbolizes her reluctant adherence to Mammoth Mogul's agencies' demands to become a pop-star on Earth while at the same time reflecting the pathetic state of her psyche. She ditches it at the end of the Studiopolis arc.
  • Good Costume Switch: After leaving to join the heroes, she gets new clothes to embrace her freedom and her resolution to truly fight for good.
  • Hypocrite: Her main reason behind rallying the citizens was her fear of what Nicole was capable of when brainwashed... however she fails to acknowledge the fact that she herself was brainwashed by Mammoth Mogul beforehand and was just as dangerous. Realizing this hypocrisy and the fact that she covered up her more selfish and spiteful motives for her concert is why she hasn't forgiven herself for what happened. Even knowing that Ixis Naugus' magic messed up her concert, it is clear that the hateful lyrics she wrote made her just as bad.
  • Instrumental Weapon: Obtains a Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar shaped wispon called the Rhythm Wispon from Tekno. Tekno put it together in her spare time, hoping to get a Magenta Wisp user for it but had no luck until Mina arrived with Bowie. The canary gives it to Mina free-of-charge so it can finally find some use while giving Mina herself a weapon of her own. It can either be used as an improvised sonic mace or fire sonic blasts, all to the tune of catchy songs.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After the SGW and seeing New Mobotropolis descend further into tyranny, Mina began to realize how much of the current situation is partly her fault because Naugus took advantage of her concert, which was done to air a hateful and spiteful song against Nicole and the Freedom Fighters. On top of that, she realized how she basically fooled herself into thinking her intentions were far nobler than they were and apologized to Nicole for reasons that weren't true to begin with. This caused Mina to spiral into depression and self-loathing.
  • Sixth Ranger: Joins Team Freedom after the climax of the Studiopolis arc.
  • Super-Speed: Not to Sonic's level, but she is exceptionally fast. She uses his Super Peel-Out technique to do some damage to Metal Sonic.
  • Took a Level in Badass: From a girl who froze up when it came time to put her training as a Freedom Fighter into practice and deciding that wasn't the life for her to throwing down with Metal Sonic in desperation to help Sally and Bunnie and then smacking Mammoth Mogul twice with her Rhythm Wispon, Mina's come a long way, in no small part thanks to her own determination to be someone better.

    Mammoth Mogul
An immortal mammoth from Mobius, who has managed to become a rich CEO in Studiopolis.
  • Affably Evil: As power hungry as he is, he is distinguished by his upper-class etiquette, and has scruples concerning bargains. Is also finding enjoyment as a businessman to pass time before he can finally make a power play. And, of course, he rubs the fact that nobody can do anything to him in Sally and the others’ faces. He is the owner of Mammoth Studios and Club Spin, partly because he actually appreciates the arts and partly because he wants to pass the time until Sonic and his friends inevitably die. He is also one of the Restoration's financial supporters, which makes exposing him even harder.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Usually can be seen sporting a really nice suit.
  • Cruel Elephant: A villainous mammoth with ambitions of world domination. He also freely admits that learning what Thrash did to the echidnas (as well as Saffron) got a dark chuckle out of him and seems rather amused at Nicole's anger and despair at learning he was indirectly responsible for the exile. There's also the fact that he only saved the citizens of New Mobotropolis because that was Naugus' condition for helping him survive the Super Genesis Wave, with the obvious implication being he would have left them all to be erased with no remorse if it were within his power.
  • Devil in Plain Sight: His current status due to the fact that he's a Villain with Good Publicity as his schemes are a lot more subtle than the more immediately dangerous villains like Eggman.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: A variant in that Silver loves not the man Mammoth Mogul is now, but the father-figure he became in the Bad Future as Master Mogul. Mogul denounces the idea he could ever become "that fool", but Silver refutes that and states he'll fight him until he has the opportunity to become that better person, and Sally notes that as Silver leaves his office Mammoth looks a bit conflicted.
  • A God Am I: Considers himself a god thanks to his immortality and his schemes usually revolve around trying to obtain enough power to make that a reality.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He reveals he's indirectly responsible for the echidnas' exile due to hiring Nicolette the Weasel to find and steal the Phantom Ruby, who in turn brought Thrash the Devil to Angel Island to act as a distraction and letting him pursue his revenge to facilitate that.
  • I Gave My Word: Despite trying to exploit the situation to brainwash Silver, he lives up to his end of the bargain with the heroes to provide them with information, even calling off his new Fearsome Foursome.
  • I Hate Past Me: The echo of his future self, Master Mogul, in Silver's mind makes it clear that he considers Mammoth Mogul nothing but a foolish child who would ruin the world simply because it doesn't bend to his whim.
  • Long Game: Makes it very clear to Sally and the others that he plans on outliving Sonic and his friends as well as Eggman, living completely under their radar since none of them know who he is. Even when Sally reveals that she told the Restoration about his deeds he isn't worried since he has technically not done anything on Earth and when Sonic dies there will be no one to stop him.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: Almost always a very fine suit.
  • Mr. Exposition: Is the one to reveal just how he and New Mobotropolis survived the Super Genesis Wave as well as providing plenty of lore about the Ancients.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: He saved New Mobotropolis not out of the goodness of his heart, but simply because that was the condition Naugus set for his required help in surviving the Super Genesis Wave.
  • Wicked Cultured: Despite his oft-unabashed malevolent goals, he conducts himself with great pride and decorum. He also enjoys the arts, hanging copies of classical paintings in his penthouse office.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Casually admits that he killed Nicolette the Weasel as soon as she delivered the Phantom Ruby, as he couldn't risk her tipping off Dr. Eggman to his plan for a payday.

    The Fearsome Foursome
The newest iteration of Mammoth Mogul's Fearsome Foursome. All of them are natives to Earth who have been convinced to swear their undying loyalty to the mammoth, and in return they gained awesome powers to better serve him. They consist of Shiro the Corsac Fox, Trigger the Porcupine, Pluto the Basset Hound, and Cheshire the Hybrid.
  • Albinos Are Freaks: Shiro's albinism is often noted and he's the most fiercely devoted minion to Mogul's cause.
  • Cowardly Lion: Cheshire may be a coward who very openly says they're probably going to die in a fight against Team Freedom, but the moment she actually has to fight them she shows she’s capable of going one-on-one with Tangle.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Cheshire is an utterly nervous wreck with little to no faith in her own abilities normally, but when she's put in a combat situation she goes into a trance that makes her a combat monster.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: The normally flirty Trigger draws the line at anyone who is underage, such as Whisper.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Cheshire is a Hybrid of a cat and chameleon Islander, and it results in her having both scales and fur with a curling reptile tail and eyes. It's mentioned that she looks off in terms of appearance.
  • Original Character: All four members are created solely for this fic to act as Mammoth Mogul's new enforcers.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Shiro's albinism includes him having red eyes, which he usually hides behind sunglasses unless he wants to intimidate someone.
  • Servile Snarker: Pluto is the one who grumbles the most about doing his job, something that Shiro will often chastise him for, but Mogul tolerates it because when he's given an order he'll follow through no matter what regardless of his complaints.
  • Spike Shooter: Trigger can fire her quills and redirect them in any way she pleases.
  • Superior Successor: Compared to their predecessors, it is very clear that Mammoth Mogul learned from his mistakes when creating this iteration of the Fearsome Foursome. Not only are they completely loyal to him, the few times that had them fight required nothing short of either bad lucknote , raw overwhelming powernote  or their boss's direct command to stop them.
  • The Tease: Trigger often likes to flirt with and tease not just her teammates, but the heroes as well. She even comments that Whisper is cute but is too young for her.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Shiro's fur is completely white and he serves the very evil Mammoth Mogul, willing to kill other people should his master say so.

The Hooligans

    In General
A group of bounty hunters with a criminal record. They run into Team Freedom as they were notified of a bounty to catch Mina Mongoose.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • They draw the line at taking lives. Bean is often held back by the other Hooligans to avoid mass casualties from his bombs. They also dropped working for Eggman after what went down with Perfect Chaos and Station Square.
    • None of them were pleased with Fang losing his temper being how Trip ended up turning on them either.
  • Starter Villain: For Team Freedom as whole. Their clash in Studiopolis is a test of their abilities and teamwork.

    Fang the Sniper
The leader of the Hooligans. A wolf-jerboa hybrid that is very good with a gun and will brag about fighting Sonic back in the day, but has fallen on hard times due to no longer being a match for the Blue Blur.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Inverted. While he's always been named Fang in Japan. In the U.S, he was dubbed Nack the Weasel (save for Sonic the Fighters), a name that the Archie series likewise used through all of his appearances. Here, however, his name is Fang though all the Archie characters call him Nack, much to the sniper’s confusion. This is partly because Nack the Weasel, in the rebooted timeline, is an alias he’d gone by in the past but had long since abandoned.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Fang is a far more honorable and pleasant person on Earth than he ever was on Mobius, much to the surprise of several members of the Archie cast. Bunnie herself after hearing some of Nack's old-world exploits from Antoine comments that he sounds like a huge tool, a comparison the other agrees with.
  • Adaptation Species Change: Back on Mobius, he was a weasel. However, in the rebooted timeline Fang is a wolf-jerboa hybrid, but he mostly identifies as a jerboa to match with his recently announced official species.
  • Cool Bike: As usual, he shows up on his hover bike, The Marvelous Queen. Fang takes great pride in the Marvelous Queen and it's commented by Bunnie that he pumps most of the earnings of his jobs on repairs or upgrades.
  • Dirty Coward: Fang will cut his losses and run if he thinks the score isn’t worth it. He sees no shame in this, as he prefers to stay amongst the land of the living if he can help it.
  • Glory Days: Often brags about taking on Sonic, but it’s made clear by other characters that part of the reason why he doesn't anymore is because the hedgehog had long since overshadowed him in the power and speed department. So Fang isn’t nearly the threat to Sonic's health as he used to be.
  • The Nicknamer: Refers to Sonic as "Fleet-feet" and Tails as "Double-Butt".
  • No True Scotsman: Considers Wispon users inferior to gunslingers like him, as he considers having to argue with your ammo ridiculous. He even strikes a personal grudge against Whisper after she soundly beats him in a shootout at Club Spin.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: It is revealed by Bunnie in Chapter 29 that he draws the line at killing people, as this is all the motivation Sonic needs to reduce him to a red and purple smear on the wall. Better act like a Goldfish Poop Gang to avoid the heat. This was not a line shared by Nack on Mobius, who would happily murder someone if paid enough for it.
  • Tempting Fate: Thinks that the latest bounty of catching Mina will be an easy and lucrative job as Sonic and his friends aren't around while Eggman isn't the one who put it up. Cue running into Team Freedom along with all the other troubles that come afterwards.
  • Treasure Hunter: He pegs himself as such. Apparently, he had to get the team as a whole to do this as Eggman became more infamous over time, making working for him no longer worth the heat.

    Bean the Dynamite
A crazy woodpecker known for his obsession with explosives.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: As in the Archie series, he's utterly nuts; Fang and Bunnie can barely keep him under control half the time.
  • Friendly Enemy: In his own quirky way, Bean can be quite friendly when he's not trying to blow people up.
  • Mad Bomber: Bean's capable of making bombs out of thin air and he's not afraid of launching them willy-nilly. Even he doesn’t know where the bombs come from.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: He is able to vaguely recall the Pre-SGW world, but being the resident cloudcuckoolander means nobody takes his statements seriously.
  • Shipper on Deck: Says Silver and Blaze make a cute pair and asks when he’s going to see their mutant hedgehog-cat babies.

    Bark the Polar Bear
A big lumbering powerhouse who is a polar bear of few words.
  • The Brute: The main muscle of the gang. Tangle had to resort to using a whole kitchen's worth of pots and pans to subdue him when trying to outmuscle him isn't an option.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite being more serious than the other members of his gang, he does have a bit of a back and forth with Tangle while not uttering a word.
  • Silent Bob: Doesn't utter a word throughout the Studiopolis arc.
  • Super-Strength: Has this in spades, and as pointed out by Tangle he used to go toe-to-toe with Knuckles back in the day. His blows are strong enough to convince Tangle not use her iconic tail as a shield, as each blow landed sends it into shock every time it lands.
  • The Voiceless: Often only communicates in grunts and body language, never saying a word to either the other members of his gang or his opponents. Even when part of a group text, Bark only communicates through emojis.

    Bunnie Rabbot
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_0087.jpeg
Rebooted Friend & Current Hooligan Member
Another member of the Hooligans who partnered up with Fang before the Fighters Tournament occurred and formed the gang. She’s a cyborg like on Mobius but with a rebooted backstory on Earth.
  • Arm Cannon: Her left arm can fire a variety of projectiles at her opponents, with her index finger turning into a gun barrel.
  • Bottomless Magazines: Averted. There are times where she runs out of ammo in the middle of combat.
  • Commonality Connection: A variation. She strikes one with her past life as Bunnie D'Coolette. After constantly hearing about how "perfect" she was from Beau and other various Freedom Fighters while she herself is nothing more than a "mockery" of her, she understandably doesn't want anything to do with her past life. However, when she winds up making use of Antoine to access the wine cellar, she learns from him that Bunnie D'Coolette is far from perfect and shares many traits, both positive and negative, with her. She was too lovestruck to notice Antoine being replaced by Patch for a whole year, ran away after he fell into his coma calling herself a burden and often went charging in blind which got her out of commission. Both also never leave their companions behind and share the same dream of being a hairdresser.
  • Composite Character: While she's the rebooted version of Bunnie Rabbot from the pre-SGW universe, her backstory involving her developing an illness that took away the motor functions of her legs and left arm, with a doctor in her flashbacks describing nerve damage, and requiring her to get cybernetics to get any real quality of life back is very reminiscent of her pre-SGW Moebius counterpart, Buns Rabbot, who developed Neuro-Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (NIDS) in her spinal column that left her paralyzed from the waist down while requiring the Omega Care Unit to function properly and stop the spread.
  • Cyborg: Thanks to the procedure replacing her legs and left arm with robotic prosthetics.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: Thunderbolt telling her that if Gaia cared He would’ve done something and her father disowning her made Bunnie develop serious trust issues and shattered her faith. Her time paying off her debt also convinced her that money is all that matters and the only reason heroes do what they can do is because they can “afford” to be nice.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her rebooted backstory barely has any bright spots. Born into a commune that swore off modern technology and medicine, she one day contracted a disease that caused her left arm and legs to not work anymore, heavily implied to be Neuro-Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (NIDS). After overhearing her mother call her a burden, Bunnie ran away to her uncle and learned from a doctor that because her parents didn’t bring her in to get treated earlier, not even modern medical techniques can help her now. She then goes to Thunderbolt to get artificial limbs and finds out she put her and her uncle in an enormous debt. Because of the artificial limbs, Bunnie was disowned by her parents and went off to live with her aunt and uncle. She was then forced into a life of crime to pay off said debt, running away from her uncle and aunt in fear of them considering her a burden eventually, and eventually joins Fang and the other two members of the Hooligans.
  • Enemy Mine: In response to the double-cross which captured the other Hooligans and finding out what happened to her uncle, she decides to help Team Freedom in the Return to New Mobotropolis arc.
  • The Face: This is Bunnie's role in the Hooligans.
The Hooligans each had their own job. Fang was the sniper who got them jobs. Bean was a mad woodpecker who blew up whatever needed blowing up, be they objects or people. Bark was the muscle who could be sweet when the time called for it.
    Bunnie?
    She was the friendly face.
And sometimes that was all that was needed for her to get in close and wrap her metal fingers around their targets.
  • Hope Is Scary: Bunnie is wary when Sally informs her that the bomb in her left leg has been disabled, especially since it acted as a leash for pretty much her entire life. When she got the bomb removed for real from her leg, she genuinely felt a decade of baggage leaving her.
  • Only Sane Man: Is portrayed as the smartest member of the Hooligans.
  • Sweet Home Alabama: She does speak with a southern accent.
  • Trick Bullet: Oftentimes uses gimmick projectiles on her opponents, including launching a substance that can restrain even Sonic or Sally.
  • Was It All a Lie?: Chapter 29 has her learn that she was the one who married Antoine in the Pre-SGW world when he talks about his love life in the wine storage. She is understandably furious at the supposed sham as she just opened up to the first person outside the Hooligans who didn't treat her as "Bunnie D'Coolette with a scrambled mind" but as her own person. Antoine manages to cool her down and clear up the misunderstanding in time.

Team Chaotix

    Vector the Crocodile
Leader of the detective agency. A crocodile who has a strong focus on money but genuinely cares for his crew.
  • The Big Guy: Acts as the main muscle of the detective agency.
  • Cool Car: He has his Beat Monster sports car from Team Sonic Racing in this continuity. Here, it has two rows of seats to fit both him and his teammates.
  • The Leader: Again, he's the leader of the detective agency.
  • You Are Not Alone: Makes it clear to Saffron that whether she and Julie-Su are from another universe or are from a pre-reboot world, they are members of the Chaotix in his book and he never leaves a member of the crew behind.

    Espio the Chameleon
A ninja and the speedy member of the detective agency.
  • The Comically Serious: Usually always reserved and takes everything with a straight face.
  • Death Glare: Gives one when furious or really annoyed.
  • Devious Daggers: Espio is a ninja with invisibility powers, and has a number of kunai stored in his gauntlets. They're his primary weapons.
  • Manly Tears: He sheds a few after hearing what had happened to Charmy on Mobius and realizing that to Saffron and Julie-Su, the horrors they experienced might as well have happened yesterday.
  • Ninja: Acts as one. Having invisibility powers certainly helps.
  • Not So Above It All: Acts like a serious and stoic ninja, but makes sure to leave out any mistakes he made on the field when writing home so that he doesn’t get in trouble with his mom.
  • Not So Stoic: Learning about what had happened to Charmy on Mobius and Robo-Robotnik’s cruelty makes him more emotional than usual, reigniting the anger he felt to Eggman during the Metal Virus but also making him hug Saffron and Julie-Su. And even Espio acknowledges he’s not the most affectionate of people.

    Charmy Bee
The young child member of the detective agency.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: Well, he is a bee. It's only natural he uses his stinger in fights.
  • Children Are Innocent: As a young six year old kid, a lot of subtleties and darker subject matters fly over his head. Vector and Espio pick up from Saffron that she and Julie-Su killed Lien-Da from her just saying that the woman was no longer a member of return party, but Charmy doesn’t register it.
  • Flight: He's a bee and of course can fly.
  • Genre Savvy: Like Tangle, he’s able to comprehend the concept of a Continuity Reboot due to reading a lot of superhero comics.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Wears a closed bomber's jacket, but no pants. All the same, he's the sole example of this trope on the heroes' side.

    Sticks the Badger
A conspiracy-minded badger who is found lurking around Team Chaotix’ HQ. While she claims to be a part of the Chaotix Detective Agency, Vector refuses to give her an official part in it and oftentimes tells her to leave.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: It’s implied that she spent a long time alone on an island and survived partly by drinking cactus juice whenever the water ran out, leading to her getting high very often and becoming a Conspiracy Theorist. She was only saved thanks to Sonic and his friends finding her and bringing her back to the mainland.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Due to being a part of the mainline universe, Sticks loses a lot of the fourth-wall breaking she had in her home series.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: Her entire schtick. She often rambles about various conspiracies she believes in to others.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Her discovery of where Lupe is kidnapped involves the Chaotix along with Julie-Su and Saffron in the affairs of New Mobotropolis around the same time Team Freedom enter the place.
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: It’s noted by Julie-Su that as insane and nonsensical as Sticks' conspiracy theorists may be, there is some grain of truth in them. Considering what kind of world they live in, it is not hard to see why.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While she may be suspicious of Gemerl due to him being a robot that might kickstart a robot uprising, she’d never attack him unless he attacks first and calls both Julie-Su and Saffron psychos for doing so.
  • The Pig-Pen: It’s noted that Sticks’ personal hygiene… isn’t the greatest. It’s remarked by Saffron that she smells and seems to prefer sleeping in the woods. She also has no shame in going to the bathroom in the woods, much to the disgust of Charmy.

New Mobotropolis

    Jules and Bernadette Hedgehog
The parents of Sonic the Hedgehog on Mobius. When they survived the Super Genesis Wave and saw how Geoffrey was manipulating the civilians of New Mobotropolis against their son, they decided it was wise to abandon the city and take up residence in the border of the magical barrier.
  • Dad the Veteran: Jules fought on the front lines of the Great War, and is perfectly willing and able to fight if necessary
  • Good Parents: They were this to Sonic, and they would’ve been this to him throughout his life if it wasn’t for the fact that they were roboticized and stripped of their free will for most of it. They also make it clear that even if Sonic has been rebooted and they technically aren’t his parents anymore, they still view him as their son and fully believe that he will eventually save them.
  • Happily Married: It’s made very clear that Bernie and Jules love each other. When the Super Genesis Wave hits, Jules’ first priority is to comfort and hold his wife. And his love for her is what keeps him sane while experiencing the shift of reality and hearing THE END.
  • Last of His Kind: Jules used to be this before Sally joined him as one of the last two Robians in existence, both on Mobius and now on Earth.
  • Retired Badass: Both of them are veteran soldiers from the Great War, and it shows that they haven’t lost their touch.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Both of them realized that when Geoffrey took over, they’d likely become one of his first targets since they kicked Naugus out of their home. So they decided it was best to leave the city while he was starting to gather supporters so that they would stay safe for Sonic’s sake.

    Rotor Walrus
The main inventor and mechanic of the Knothole Freedom Fighters, as well as the childhood friend of Sally and Sonic on Mobius. While he had been out of the frontlines due to a back injury he experienced during the destruction of Knothole, he had managed to return to the field due to a battle suit made of nanites and became a member of Team Freedom in New Mobotropolis. Thanks to being inside of New Mobotropolis’ walls, he survived the Super Genesis Wave and is working with the Freedom Fighters inside the city to free it from Geoffrey.
  • The Artifact: He was originally the Freedom Fighters' resident technical genius but ended up getting increasingly pushed to the wayside due to the introduction of Nate Morgan and due to Tails being reestablished as a kid genius. However, his skills became invaluable to the New Mobotropolis Freedom Fighters since Tails is no longer there.
  • Career-Ending Injury: He was taken out of active duty as a Freedom Fighter when he suffers a severe back injury during the destruction of Knothole. After working for the Council for a time, and quitting, he returns to active duty, using Powered Armor to compensate.
  • Defector from Decadence: Already furious with the rest of the Council of Acorn, Rotor hit his limit when everyone but himself, including Uncle Chuck, votes in favor of exiling Nicole from New Mobotropolis because "it's what the people want." No longer able to stomach being part of the council anymore after this, Rotor, after giving the rest of them a tongue-lashing for doing so, resigned on the spot and left in outrage.
  • Resign in Protest: When the Acorn Council voted to banish NICOLE from New Mobotropolis because "it's what the people want", Rotor was so disgusted and upset that he resigned from his seat on the spot.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: It's made very clear that the events of the Super Genesis Wave has taken its toil on Rotor more than most, especially since he personally saw Cream, Vanilla, Cheese, Chocola, Big, and Froggy all get hit by the SGW and had to deal with the shock and horror of thinking they were erased from existence before his very eyes. He spent a lot of time just cooped up in his lab trying to come to terms with it before the insurgency against Geoffrey forced his hand back into active duty.

    Antoine D'Coolette
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_0290_3.png
Widowed Freedom Fighter
Member of the Freedom Fighters and the childhood friend of Sally and Sonic on Mobius. While originally extremely cowardly and had a huge ego, he grew as a person to become a somewhat courageous ally and eventual husband to Bunnie Rabbot. He had been taken out of commission after protecting Elias Acorn from an exploding Metal Sonic, being put into a coma that he hadn’t awoken from by the time of the Super Genesis Wave. Thanks to being in New Mobotropolis, he survived and after awakening is working with the Freedom Fighters inside the city to save it from Geoffrey.
  • Badass Cape: He wears an Aramis cape, a cape worn by French nobility and musketeers, over his left shoulder.
  • Berserk Button: If you value your neck, do not mention the word "eyepatch" or suggest having him wear one over his non-functioning eye, as Doctor Quack realised when treating his wounds. He is still very pissed at Patch posing as him for a whole year and the damage he caused while impersonating as him.
  • Body Horror: As Doctor Quack put it, he's lucky to still be alive. The close-range explosion of Metal Sonic combined with the hard fall he took afterwards lodged multiple fragments of metal throughout his body, sliced into his internal organs, took his eye out of commission, and nearly broke his spine. The author makes it quite clear that it's a miracle that Antoine survived the way he did.
  • Butt-Monkey: Tends to be on the butt of several jokes in the story, including tripping and falling during his heroic introduction to Tangle & Silver. He also has his tendency to butcher common expressions corrected by Tangle, much to his annoyance and embarrassment.
  • Career-Ending Injury: After taking the explosion meant for Elias, he was put into a coma and received extreme injuries from the blast. So extreme that he needs the nanites in his body to be as mobile as he was before the explosion.
  • Gratuitous French: Is often prone to randomly speak in French and an overblown French Funetik Aksent. When Whisper recognizes the language and briefly speaks to him in French, he's left astounded and tries to start a conversation in French before he's interrupted.
  • Harmful Healing: The nanites in his body are responsible for both giving him movement as well as healing his injuries, but the physical stress of combat is actually having a negative effect on his body and the healing process. So much so it's implied that if he keeps it up, he'll end up permanently crippled if not dead.
  • Heartbroken Badass: He did not take the news that Bunnie had been rebooted well, but still wants to fight for the freedom of his kingdom.
  • Lightning Bruiser: The nanites in his body grant him full mobility as well as increased speed, which he uses effectively in battle.
  • Scars Are Forever: Received several scars from the explosion on his face, hands, and presumably the rest of his body.

    Amadeus and Rosemary Prower
The parents of Miles “Tails” Prower of Mobius. Thanks to being inside the borders of New Mobotropolis, they survived the Super Genesis Wave. However, Amadeus is currently the second-in-command of the New Mobotropolis Freedom Fighters while Rosemary has become one of Geoffrey’s Ixis Magicks mages.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Whatever his feelings on the "Genesis Births", Amadeus is appalled by Elias' dismissal of Tangle and Whisper.
  • Fatal Flaw: Rosemary's distrust for the monarchy. Even after their revolution succeeds, Rosemary continues to look down on the Acorns, leading her to repeatedly vote against the Freedom Fighters. It's to the extent that, despite Ixis Naugus being a known enemy and an Evil Sorcerer who's tried to kill her son more than once in the past, Rosemary is perfectly willing to put him in charge and make him king because she just distrusts the Acorn family that much. However, based on her expressions and her experiences in New Mobotropolis, she has come to regret her decisions.
  • It's All My Fault: Amadeus hints that he sees the current situation as partly his fault, and that he was too naïve to see that the situation was falling apart which led to Geoffrey taking control of the city. Rosemary has a similar opinion, believing that if Blaze were to escape her bounds and drown the city in fire for their sins, she'd deserve to burn right alongside Naugus and Snively.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Yes, they led a revolution and tried to overthrow the Kingdom of Acorn, but their criticisms of the Acorns' leadership are perfectly valid; while King Max meant well, he was still a slave to tradition and Horrible Judge of Character who's decisions and refusal to heed the warnings of others led to the Great War, the destruction of Old Mobotropolis and Knothole Village, and subjected all of Mobius to Robotnik's tyranny for over a decade.
  • Lady of Black Magic: Rosemary is currently a member of Naugus's cult and is implied to have learned at least some Ixis Magicks. Chapter 29 reveals that she isn't as broken as Naugus thinks, and is secretly spying on his plans.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: Rosemary was among those in the Council voting against the Freedom Fighters taking on the Suppression Squad in favor of focusing on Eggman. On top of that, she's in favor of putting Naugus in charge, remarking that the constitution merely called for a king without specifying who it should be, and ends up voting for Nicole to be exiled. She shows a more positive side to this by stepping in whenever Naugus tries to dismiss or deny motions out of hand, reminding him that even if he is King, his power isn't absolute and he's just one voice on a council. This, however, came to an end when Geoffrey used his newfound power and popularity to force the council to crown him king and abolish itself.

    Hamlin Pig
A pig who trained under Sally and would later go on to be one of the more important of the Substitute Freedom Fighters. Of all of them, Hamlin was slow to trust and quick to anger and that anger gradually grew as the Substitute Freedom Fighters were continually pulled from action. With the formation of the Council of Acorn, Hamlin joined in part because of his frustration with Sally's leadership. After the Super Genesis Wave, Hamlin was one of the few who began to realize that Geoffrey was seeking to take control of the city and quickly moved to create a resistance against him. He is now the leader of the New Mobotropolis Freedom Fighters, and takes pride in that position.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He may have been a sleazy Obstructive Bureaucrat, but even he was disgusted by how quickly the citizens of New Mobotropolis were willing to trade their freedom for security. So much so that he actually beat Amadeus to punch in founding a resistance movement.
  • It's All About Me: The climax of his argument with Sally at the end of Chapter 29 is summed up with a single Armor-Piercing Question:
"Hamlin…" Sally spoke, cutting the pig's tirade off. "…when did this war stop being about them and start being about you?"
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • While he’s extremely abrasive and rude about it, he’s not wrong that Amadeus’ actions to secure Team Freedom’s escape led to the capture of many Freedom Fighters, numbering up to almost half of their overall forces. He's also right to point out that Amadeus has no real experience in fighting on the frontlines of a guerrilla war campaign and engaging in sabotage, and he should have listened to Hamlin who has more experience in both.
    • As pointed out earlier by the citizens and demonstrated painfully in the throne room, Sally is vulnerable to getting hacked by Eggman while Nicole, having regained access to her nanites, can be taken control of as shown with the Iron Queen. The only assurance is Nicole's protection, which isn't much.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: During his tenure on the Council, this was Hamlin's main characterization, utterly focused on motions, committees, subcommittees, and any other bureaucratic obstacle that could possibly hinder the Freedom Fighters or ensure they were protecting the kingdom "properly." During the Bold New Moebius arc, when Sally made the decision to counter-invade Moebius after the Council refused to let them chase Scourge out of Freedom HQ, Hamlin wasted no time charging her with treason and did everything in his power to ensure her conviction, being the only councilor not to ultimately vote to clear her of charges, and later, when Naugus makes claim to the throne, he outright explodes on Sonic for insisting on just beating up the wizard rather than letting the government handle it, sick of him disrespecting their authority. The one time he didn't butt heads with Sonic and co. is when they requested permission to start Team Freedom and Team Fighters, and that was because for once they were actually cooperating with the council and going through the "proper channels".
  • Pet the Dog: He doesn’t treat Whisper any differently from any other soldier nor does he butt heads with her when she mentions she’s Sally’s friend. Instead he just tells her that so long as she follows his orders to free the city they’ll get along.
  • The Resenter: A key part of his character. He resented Sally for never allowing him to fight for his people on as anything more than a member of a backup unit, and it’s a resentment he carried as both a member of the Council of Acorn and as the leader of the New Mobotropolis Freedom Fighters.

    Conquering Storm
The former Grandmaster of the Dragon Kingdoms and leader of the Raiju Clan. Since she wasn’t in the borders of New Mobotropolis during the Super Genesis Wave, she had been rebooted as a single mother without any connection to a ninja clan. However, something has happened which caused the Conquering Storm of Mobius to return and take complete control of her reboot body. Now she’s aligned with the king of New Mobotropolis and the leader of the Reborn Raiju Clan.
  • Ambition Is Evil: All of Conquering Storm’s actions revolve around her obtaining power and strength, morals be damned. It’s why she worked under Robo-Robotnik on Mobius and now serves Geoffrey in New Mobotropolis, because she benefits from their goals.
  • Electronic Eyes: After being legionized/cyberized, her eyes have black sclerae with circuits running through them.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Despite seeing the infant son of her reboot self as a liability and a sign of weakness, she does make sure he’s left in the hands of her reboot self’s sister and intends to eventually return for him. This foreshadows what happened to the characters that had their bodies hijacked by their Archie counterparts.
  • Freudian Excuse: The Raiju Clan’s society and culture actively encouraged ruthlessness, brutality, and seeing love & compassion as weaknesses with strength being the only way anyone could advance their station. Because of this, it’s no wonder why Conquering Storm became what she is.
  • Might Makes Right: Her entire philosophy revolves around strength above all else.
  • The Starscream: Sees her loyalty to the king and Snively as entirely conditional. She’s loyal so long as it looks like they’ll achieve their goals. If she sees that they are beginning to fail, she intends to make them pay for treating her like a servant.

    Beauregard Rabbot
The former Grandmaster of the Great Desert. Since he wasn’t in the borders of New Mobotropolis during the Super Genesis Wave, he had been rebooted as well. He remained Bunnie Rabbot’s uncle and was a minor criminal even before he was blackmailed into paying the debt for Bunnie’s limbs. However, something has happened which caused the Beauregard Rabbot of Mobius to return and take complete control of his reboot body. Now he’s aligned with the king of New Mobotropolis and acting as the “Sherriff” of the city.
  • Didn't Think This Through: As Sally and Bunnie herself points out, the method of how he is going to bring back the Bunnie from Archie back requires the Bunnie from Archie hijacking the body of the IDW one, as they are clearly separate individuals. If she were to return, the old Bunnie would be horrified and disgusted at how she was brought back and hate him.
  • It's All About Me: A tragic example, as Beauregard wants to bring back the old version of Bunnie because he feels like he failed her and from his perspective he lost his niece. So he really sees the reboot Bunnie as just her being ‘confused’ and she needs to remember the old world so that she can live a better life.
  • Trapped in Villainy: Something the rebooted Beauregard shares with his Mobius self. As even before being blackmailed into servitude by Thunderbolt, he was forced into a life of crime because thanks to his commune he didn’t have a birth certificate or health insurance. So the rebooted Beauregard needed to do what he could to get money.
  • Villain Has a Point: As messed up as his treatment of IDW Bunnie is, he points out that this Bunnie has lived a life of crime and misery, something that she doesn't deserve to undergo. So in his rationality, he is giving her a Mercy Kill while bringing back his happy married niece, consequences be damned.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Complicated example as technically it was the IDW version of Beauregard and Morded that was this. Having said that, those two have been working together closely as well. Whether this is akin to Conquering Storm's connection with her IDW-self son remains to be seen.

    Mordred Hood
The former Grandmaster of Mercia and betrayer of King O’Hedge. Since he wasn’t in the borders of New Mobotropolis during the Super Genesis Wave, he had been rebooted as a criminal that had worked with Bunnie’s uncle. However, something has happened which caused the Mordred Hood of Mobius to return and take complete control of his reboot body. Now he’s aligned with the king of New Mobotropolis and is paired with his fellow former Grandmaster, Beauregard Rabbot.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Lives and breathes his trope. Part of the reason he betrayed King O’Hedge is because the old king had the gall to treat the commoners as equals rather than servants.
  • Blue Blood: Fully believes that being a noble makes him better than commoners.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Is mentioned in Bunnie Rabbot's flashback as one of the people offering her uncle lucrative "jobs". And going by implications, he is the "TreacheryClarent37" mentioned among the Eggman supporters chat in Chapter 7.
  • Evil Is Petty: He admits that his only regret about the fact that Rob o' the Hedge has seemingly been erased by the Super Genesis Wave is that he can't laugh in his face about the fact that he's here and Rob isn't.
  • Hate Sink: Unlike Beauregard who's shown to be a conflicted Anti-Villain, Mordred Hood is an unrepentant villain and general asshole classist Smug Snake who can't open his mouth without insulting someone. As such, no one In-Universe or out of it is supposed to feel bad when he invites all manner of indignities either verbal or physical on his person.
  • Hypnotic Creature: He has the ability to wretch control of anybody he wants in range using his hood, leaving the victim his conscious puppet. It doesn't work if the target is mechanical or has their eyes looking elsewhere or covered.
  • The Mole: Serves as one for Thunderbolt's group of Eggman supporters, giving them intel and access to New Mototropolis' network. It's his leak that Team Freedom has arrived in New Mototropolis and Blaze has been captured to be used as part of their plans that galvanizes them, and far importantly Metal Sonic and Phage, into getting their attack going.
  • The Quisling: Betrayed his kingdom just to grab power under Eggman’s rule and so that he could continue to oppress the commoners.
  • The Starscream: It's revealed that he’s secretly working with someone outside of New Mobotropolis, presumably Thunderbolt's group. His heavily implied online handle among the Egg Bosses goes by "TreacheryClarent37".
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: What glimpses are given of the IDW version of Mordred through Bunnie's flashbacks suggest that while still a criminal, he at least had some standards and was a friend of IDW Beauregard. Then he got his Mobius version forced into his head and took over his life, with said Mordred openly deriding his Alternate Self as a fool.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Complicated example as technically it was the IDW version of Mordred and Beauregard that was this. Having said that, those two have been working together closely as well. Whether this is akin to Conquering Storm connection with her IDW-self son remains to be seen.

    Ixis Naugus (Unmarked Spoilers!!)
An evil wizard and one of Sonic & the Freedom Fighters’ greatest threats. He had once saved Maximillian when he was banished into the Zone of Silence, while making him swear fealty to him, making the wizard a legal ruler. He had been trying to take over Mobotropolis twice and failed thanks to Sonic (who he frequently refers to as "Quickster"). It wasn't until after the failed Iron Dominion invasion in New Mobotropolis that, through his magical manipulation, he was finally able to become king — with a little help from Geoffery St. John. A decision the skunk would come to regret when his master decided he needed a new body. Thanks to Mammoth Mogul needing Naugus’ help to survive the Super Genesis Wave, Naugus was able to force his former master into saving “his” kingdom as well. Now possessing the body of his former apprentice, Naugus continues to rule New Mobotropolis with even more power and influence than before while vilifying Sonic.
  • Arc Villain: Is the current main villain for Sally’s story during the Return to New Mobotropolis arc.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: He finally managed to become King, but quickly realized that the position had lost a lot of power to the Council of Acorn, meaning he couldn't instantly become a tyrant like he had hoped. His increasingly erratic behavior caused by his body mutations and hearing the spirits of the Ixis sorcerers in his head also caused the public to start turning against him which led to him trying to brainwash the Council and that caused Geoffrey to start to defy him. Said mutations and spirits also affected his combat prowess, meaning he was unable to hold up to his promise to protect the city alone, leading to a Villainous Breakdown. This all changed, however, when Mogul let Naugus in on his plan and Naugus used it as an opportunity to cast himself as a martyr for the city in Geoffrey’s body, vilify Sonic, and used his newfound power to abolish the council.
  • Evil Sorcerer: Can manipulate the elements to his will and utilizes crystal magic.
  • Hate Plague: Has the power to amplify people’s negative emotions, which he’s hinted to have done while possessing Geoffrey to turn the citizens of New Mobotropolis against Sonic.
  • Imposter Forgot One Detail: When possessing Geoffrey St. John, he make multiple slip-ups to Sally that blow his cover wide open.
    • He forgot that the only reason Geoffrey gave him the throne was because of the latter's patriotism, as noted by Sally. Taking the throne for himself would be considered anathema.
    • He almost forgets to say "mate" at the end of his sentences, which is Geoffrey's Verbal Tic.
    • He calls Robotnik by his old name of "Julian", something that Geoffrey never did.
    • When Sally asked him what was Geoffrey's response when Sally broke up with him after "Endgame", he gave the wrong answer.
  • Life Drinker: Uses the Egg Grapes in the dungeons below to maintain Geoffrey's body when it was breaking down during his fight with Blaze. And if the reactions from the unfortunate prisoners below are anything to go by, this wasn't the first time it happened.
  • Metaphorically True: His insistence that he "saved" New Mobotropolis isn't actually a lie, as Naugus' condition for helping Mogul survive the Super Genesis Wave was that the city would preserved as well. After all, he needs subjects to feed his tyrant fantasy.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: After whipping the people of New Mobotropolis into a frenzy, Naugus forced the council to crown “Geoffrey” king before abolishing them under threat of a full-blown riot.
  • Transformation of the Possessed: As his clash with Blaze goes on, Geoffrey's body, which was already in poor condition even before the fight began, starts breaking down at the fight itself and is actually turning into his own original body to compensate. One quick usage of the Egg Grapes' energy draining function later, Geoffrey's body was restored.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Taking advantage of everyone’s confusion after the Super Genesis Wave, Naugus was able to twist the narrative of Worlds Collide to cast Sonic as the bad guy who failed them and intentionally created a broken world, sweeping them under the rug so that he can start afresh. He then casted himself as a good king who sacrificed his life to save their city and is working to “restore” the world. Thanks to this, Naugus now has the entire city eating out of the palm of Geoffrey’s possessed hand.
  • Walking Spoiler: Unless you are an Archie fan, it is hard to talk about him possessing Geoffrey and the twists involving him.

    Geoffrey St. John (Unmarked Spoilers!!)
A skunk that was the one-time leader of the Rebel Underground and ally to Sonic & Sally. While he was loyal to the kingdom, he resented King Max and the Acorn family for trusting Overlanders and causing the Great War which killed his father. A resentment that Naugus took full advantage of in order to make the skunk his secret agent and apprentice. Eventually Geoffrey helped Naugus obtain his throne, but learned Naugus’ true character and evil intentions. He was eventually possessed by Naugus, and with his body the skunk’s one-time master became king once again.
  • And I Must Scream: He's a prisoner inside his own body while his master, who he realized all too late was a Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist, puppets his body around while being a full-blown tyrant. Also, said possession is constantly wearing his body down and only kept alive by both Naugus' willpower and draining energy from those in the Egg Grapes down in the dungeon.
  • Anti-Villain: Of the Well-Intentioned Extremist type after what happened to Sally and after Naugus became the new king. When he realized that Naugus wanted to control the council, he hated the idea and he wanted no part of it. However, Naugus informed him that no one would trust him if he tried to double-cross him considering the things he did to get to where he was. He admits to Silver that what he has done is wrong, but that it's too late for him to change and that he doesn't have a future. His heart was in the right place, but he wasn't aware that Naugus was Evil All Along until it was too late and it ended up with him being possessed by him.
  • Broken Pedestal: Naugus using his body was the last straw, as shown in him spending his brief moment of freedom when Naugus went to possess Blaze begging Conquering Storm to kill him before he gets repossessed.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: For all his faults, he genuinely loved Hershey and is outraged when Sally accuses him of killing her while in service to Naugus, and when Antoine accuses him of using her as a pawn in his schemes. He snaps at them that they can think whatever they want of him, but Hershey was a hero and they better not belittle her.
  • Fantastic Racism: His hatred of Overlanders for killing his father is what helped Naugus to manipulate and groom the skunk into his pawn.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Geoffrey genuinely believed that a maniac like Naugus could do good and worked for over a decade to make him king of the Kingdom of Acorn, convinced that he would make the Acorn Kingdom stronger and would prevent the deaths of many people. It's only when he discovers that Naugus plans Mass Hypnosis of the Council, an equivalent to roboticization, so he can have absolute power that Geoffrey finally realizes that his master is nothing but a tyrant and that restoring him, let alone working for him in the first place, was a mistake. Even then, Geoffrey believes there's some good, moral side to Naugus that he can appeal to; needless to say, this backfires horribly.
  • Manipulative Bastard: It’s implied that the only reason he kept making moves on Sally was so that he could seduce and manipulate the princess as his & Naugus’ pawn, using Sally’s infatuation with him to basically do whatever he wants. In a sense it did work, because Sally kept making excuses for his unacceptable and antagonistic behavior but it also slowly pushed her away because she began to see his attitude as just plain embarrassing.
  • Unwitting Pawn: It was made very obvious that Naugus has been lying to Geoffrey since he was a child and used his hatred for Overlanders and loyalty to the Kingdom as a means to manipulate him. When he finally got a clue it was far too late and the damage to himself and to everyone else has already been done, something which Naugus calls him out on. When he, not of his own volition, still seemed loyal to Naugus, which Naugus commented on, the Evil Wizard had no problem whatsoever possessing him. This makes it very clear that he was as much as tool in Naugus' plan as Mina.
  • Walking Spoiler: Unless you are an Archie fan, it is hard to talk about his allegiance and possession which is responsible for many major events.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He believed that making Naugus king was the right thing to do, for the good of the Republic of Acorn. Needless to say, Naugus proved him wrong.

    Snively Robotnik (Unmarked Spoilers!!)
The nephew of Julian Kintobor a.k.a. Dr. Robotnik of Mobius, Snively was formerly the doctor's right-hand man, punching bag, and would-be usurper, roles he would continue to fulfill under Robo-Robotnik/Dr. Eggman as he sought to get rid of both him and the Freedom Fighters to take the world for himself. After the Super Genesis Wave hit, Snively was reset like many others, but Ixis Naugus hunted down his counterpart on Earth and had him brought to New Mobotropolis in order to restore his pre-SGW self, having need for his technological ability for his own plans...
  • Insistent Terminology: He is Naugus' "equal", he will have you know, and will fly into a rage whenever anyone points out rightfully he's just a lackey.
  • Insufferable Genius: He knows that Naugus brought him back because he needed his technological skills and there was no way he was going to get Eggman involved in this little plan, and this has given him quite the inflated ego to his importance. He actually manages to hack into Sally's systems and incapacitate her during the throne room battle, but he spends so much time talking that Nicole is able to overcome the hack and then blow up the computer he was working from.
  • Mythology Gag: His new appearance is that of the post-SGW Archie continuity Snively, complete with fully-bald dome and a Beard of Evil, as this is the body of his rebooted self.
  • Smug Snake: He views himself as being an equal to Ixis Naugus simply because his technological skills are essential to the wizard's plans, not realizing (or at least willfully blinding himself to) the simple fact he's just the best and most controllable option. Sally even notes that's he's still the same narcissistic little worm he was back on Mobius.

Eggman Empire

    Metal Sonic
Dr. Eggman’s ultimate creation. The robot copy of Sonic targets Sally for elimination after learning about her and the truth behind the creation of his reality.
  • Adaptational Badass: Like his previous incarnations within the Archie comics and Fleetway comics, Metal Sonic is far more narratively imposing than he is in the video games. He’s able to take on Sally, Blaze, Silver, Bunnie, Bean, and several armed mooks at once even if he does end up damaged. And even damaged he’s able to have a pretty close fight with both Sally and Bunnie.
  • Arc Villain: The main one of the Studiopolis arc.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Considers himself to be the "true, perfected" Sonic, so being told otherwise is a big one. Learning that the Robotnik and Eggman of Mobius just considered him another disposable badnik causes Metal to completely lose it and destroy the Death Egg in a fit of rage.
    • The existence of the old world has become one for him as well. He’s made it his personal mission to eliminate every trace of it, starting with Sally, as he's insulted by the Eggman of Mobius' assertion that that her Mecha form would make her a perfect "complement" to himself. Discovering New Mobotropolis still exists causes him to go ballistic, immediately prioritizing the city’s destruction over Sally’s as that place is where the army of Metal Sonics was conceptualized.
  • Big "NO!": Has an internal one when going over the Mobius Eggman’s various comments about his own Metal Sonics and how Mecha Sally was built to be a match for him.
  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to Belle's Abel. As they're both creations of Eggman, he's technically her "older brother".
  • Deflector Shield: Metal has his "Black Shield" ability from Sonic Adventure 2's multiplayer mode. When activated, he is encased in an octahedral Force Field strong enough to No-Sell any attack thrown at him. He uses it to disrupt Silver’s telekinetic hold over him and as a way to protect his body while destroying the Death Egg.
  • Flight: Granted by the same built-in jet engine that enables his Super-Speed.
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: Metal Sonic proves to be just as smart as Eggman is even with his protocols in place. He shows this by exploiting a logical loophole in said protocols to act on his own whims, as well as using the Eggman Empire’s resources to find Sally.
  • Knight of Cerebus: His appearance immediately causes a darker turn in the story, especially since his mission has become to destroy Sally as a mockery to his existence along with all she holds dear.
  • Magnum Opus: He is viewed as such by Dr. Eggman and it's something he takes exceptional pride in, that Eggman will go out his way to repair him after his defeats and encourage him to try again with only at worst some reprogramming. Discovering that in the old world he was not this and was instead treated like a disposable badnik that could be junked and replaced with an "upgrade" on a whim puts him a fury that even Sonic's existence can't match.
  • Revenge by Proxy: He's fully willing to kill Mina not just because she's a remnant of the old world, but because she was one of Sonic's "mates".
  • Sadist: He contemplated breaking into Restoration HQ and torturing Jewel the Beetle into revealing Mecha Sally’s location before killing her anyway (only stopping himself because he knows Eggman wants to destroy the Restoration personally) and very much wants to destroy Nicole right in front of Sally. There’s no logical reason to either action, other than for his own enjoyment. Deconstructed later on when Sally realises this and manipulates Metal Sonic in the Studiopolis fight, effectively able to read his moves like an open book.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Metal Sonic is well-acquainted with negative feelings like hatred and contempt. Meanwhile, Cassia treating him with borderline Hero Worship as well as the Egg Bosses in general treating him as an individual (if still The Dreaded) beyond just being Eggman's servant, something almost no one aside from Eggman, Orbot, Cubot, Belle, and ironically Sonic himself ever really does invokes complicated feelings in him.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He doesn't pull his punches against female adversaries.
  • You Are Not My Father: Downplayed in that he doesn't consider Eggman his "father" specifically at this point (in fact, Phage's own discussion of calling him "father" is the first time he ever thought about it in those terms), but Metal Sonic does view Eggman as his one and only creator and himself as his Magnum Opus. Meanwhile, his sheer hatred for the Mobius Eggman treating his counterparts as disposable tools probably surpasses even his own loathing for Sonic.

    Phage
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_0169.jpeg
Sentient Eggman Empire Virus
A computer virus that was originally the prototype of Sage. She had been locked away by Eggman when she began to consume his own data, saved only because he thought she might have some future use. Now freed by Metal Sonic to counteract any hacking by Nicole, she seeks to consume Nicole’s data to satiate her seemingly never-ending hunger.
  • Digital Abomination: She is an artificial intelligence whose avatar is an amorphous black mass with a Slasher Smile visibly poking out from beneath her White Mask of Doom. Her upgraded form isn't much better.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Nicole, being a female AI loyal to Eggman instead of the Freedom Fighters. Chapter 24 has her even change form to that of a lynx like Nicole, with her white mask breaking to mimic a face complete with mouth and even replicating a secretary suit.
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: After consuming some of Nicole's data, Phage began to change and morph into a completely different kind of artificial intelligence far beyond her original program capabilities.
  • Living Shadow: Her original appearance is one.
  • Matricide: She considers Nicole her "mother" due to her devoured data allowing her to evolve into a new form. She also still intends to finish consuming her.
  • Psycho Prototype: To Sage, as while Phage possesses Undying Loyalty to Eggman just like her successor, she's also obviously much more bloodthirsty than Sage ever was, to the point it ended up making her an inadvertent risk to her creator and prompted her shelving. Notably, she doesn't begrudge Eggman for his decision.
  • Undying Loyalty: Is completely loyal to Eggman and contemplates consuming Metal Sonic because him freeing her is certainly not something Eggman ordered.
  • You Are Not My Father: Similarly to Metal Sonic, she hates the Mobius Eggmans and views them as unworthy next to her "father" despite them being his Alternate Selves due to their lack of care for their supposedly-most prized creations.

Egg Bosses

    General
  • Stealing the Credit: Was on the receiving end of this thanks to Starline. It turns out that finding the Chaos Emeralds was a team effort, rather than him doing it solo as he claimed. However, he took them and claimed that it was all his doing after all seven were located, proceeding with his own plans for Dr. Eggman who at that time was Mr. Tinker. His betrayal set back their plans to formally introduce themselves to the doctor and forced them to look for an alternative prize to offer in light of Starline's attempted coup later on, so that Dr. Eggman would think that they will actually serve him faithfully. Said prize was New Mobotropolis.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: The organization isn't exactly a unified front. While the fanatics like Thunderbolt, Stone, and Cassia get along well enough, the ones who joined purely to build up their own power frequently butt heads with each other and the aforementioned fanatics. And thats not even taking into account the members who were press-ganged into joining like Clove and Cortez.
    Thunderbolt
A psychotic chinchilla and fangirl of Eggman who leads a group of individuals who believe in the doctor's vision of the world. A rather skilled cyberneticist in her own right, she has ties to Bunnie's history post-SGW.
  • Berserk Button: While most of her group hates Starline for his betrayal, Thunderbolt is effectively reduced to a frothing mess whenever he's brought up as she despises him for daring to try and mold Dr. Eggman to "his" vision rather than faithfully follow Eggman's. Clove even making an indirect comparison to him was enough for her to shoot electricity in a murderous rage.
  • Blackmail: Threatened to destroy Bunnie's new implants in order to force her to provide funding for her various endeavors. She similarly threatens to detonate Cassia's implants in order to ensure Clove doesn't attempt to betray the group to the Restoration.
  • Blatant Lies: It is revealed later in the story that any unlucky sap who ran afoul of her services will be given a debt in which the amount is completely made up, high enough to be make it a doable herculean task but not high enough for it to be considered a scam. She had no intention of ever letting her "piggy banks" go.
  • Cute Is Evil: A small chinchilla who is an avid supporter of a mad scientist and is more than willing to resort to terrible means to see his vision through.
  • Explosive Leash: A favorite tactic of hers, threatening to destroy the implants she gave to Bunnie and Cassia the Pronghorn in order to keep the Hooligan and Cassia's sister Clove in line.
  • Fangirl: Just like her Archie self, she is wildly devoted to Eggman and has been building up a group to support him, dreaming of the day she becomes an Ascended Fangirl by proving herself.
  • Foil: To the deceased Dr. Starline, another would-be Eggman Ascended Fanboy and exceptionally-skilled scientist/engineer with an ego. Judging by several comments, Starline actually was a part of Thunderbolt's group before he struck out on his own and took their Chaos Emeralds with him all so he could get the glory of that position for himself, something Thunderbolt despises him for. The biggest difference between the two would be how exactly they view Eggman: Thunderbolt's admiration is tempered by the knowledge that she would only ever be a loyal and valued subordinate at best and she welcomes that position, while Starline despite his admiration ultimately wanted to be seen not just as Eggman's top minion, but his equal and his inability to get that drives a wedge between them, their falling-out, Starline's attempts to "correct" it, and his Undignified Death after being beaten by Eggman. This is best seen in their interactions with Metal Sonic: Thunderbolt spends her time gushing over him while repairing and reattaching his damaged arm, openly admitting that said repairs are nothing to what Eggman would do but that she hopes they will suffice for now, and when Metal Sonic has a violent outburst upon learning about New Mobotropolis she yells at the other Egg Bosses not to attack him since he's "just angry", while Starline viewed Metal Sonic at worst as a rival for the doctor's attention and at best simply as a powerful tool of Eggman's will.
  • Mad Scientist: Just like her idol, though more specialized around cybernetics.

    Cassia and Clove
The pronghorn sisters that work for Thunderbolt's group of Eggman supporters. Cassia has numerous cybernetic implants and fully buys into the group’s ideology, while Clove has no cybernetic implants and is only reluctantly working for the group for her sister’s sake.
  • Badass Adorable: Cassia, oh so much. She's extremely chipper and happy with her newfound lease on life, but she's also decked out with a cybernetic body that can tear through metal like tissue paper and ragdoll her opponents like no one's business.
  • Berserk Button: While Clove is normally reluctant to hurt others and is willing to spare people from a beatdown if they just turn around and run, she will not tolerate any badmouthing of her sister. She seriously contemplates killing Rough when he indirectly calls Cassia a freak.
  • Big Eater: It’s mentioned that Cassia constantly eats and drinks whatever she can get her hands on. This is because while she was crippled from her disease, she could only eat through a tube.
  • Combat Stilettos: Clove sports a pair of heels on par with Blaze's. They help to further emphasize how shapely her legs are compared to other Islander females.
  • Cyborg: Cassia's face is extensively mechanical, as "treatment" for something unspecified. There is passing mention that her eyes are now entirely glass, her muscles have gotten augmentations, and several organs were replaced.
  • Driven to Suicide: Cassia wanted to become a zombot because she’d prefer not to think anymore and be a mindless shuffling thing rather than remain trapped in her bed, barely able to move or even talk thanks to her disease. She even implies to Clove that she couldn’t stand living in her original state. Getting her implants changed this, however.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Long before either of them showed up, one of the siblings (most likely Cassia) is mentioned under the online handle "IronProngQueen".
  • Foil: During Rough and Tumble's jailbreak, it is shown how different the sisters are in regards to their opinion of Eggman and his supporters. Clove hates Eggman for all that he has done while Cassia actually respects Eggman as his Metal Virus, for a while, saved her from her condition. Clove takes measures to not hurt any of the Restoration guards seriously when disarming them while Cassia swings her electric tonfas wildly and doesn't care how badly she hurts them. Clove is only part of the organization due to knowing about Cassia's life being used as leverage against her while Cassia loves everything about Eggman and wholeheartedly joins them while being ignorant of being used as a hostage.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Cassia's the foolish while Clove is the responsible. Look no further than their interactions with Metal Sonic, where Clove is obviously wary of the Killer Robot while Cassia thinks he's the coolest thing under the sun. Amusingly, Metal Sonic finds himself more befuddled than anything at Cassia's treatment of him while seeing Clove's as the logical response.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Cassia's the Tomboy to Clove's Girly Girl.
  • Trapped in Villainy: Much like in the original Archie canon, Clove is only working for Thunderbolt and the others because Thunderbolt threatens to turn off Cassia’s new implants if she rats them out to the Restoration. What makes it worse is Clove’s horrified realization that Cassia is now radicalized by the group’s ideology.

    Lee Stone
A human member of Thunderbolt's group of Eggman supporters. A former technology specialist agent of the Guardian Units of Nations that was honorably discharged after the events of the Eclipse Cannon. Now he uses the funds coming from his legitimate businesses to support the organization dedicated to Dr. Eggman.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Only in the sense that he actually now has a first name. In the movies, he’s only known as Agent Stone.
  • Affably Evil: It’s made clear that he’s the one actually keeping the Egg Bosses together, and if Thunderbolt was left in charge she would needlessly antagonize the other members and cause their organization to fall apart. Whenever she’s about to break into a tirade he acts to calm her down with a pumpkin spice latte and move her to the side so he can continue the meeting.
  • Canon Foreigner: His character originates from the movies and he appears nowhere else in the franchise.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Is the head of several corporations, and uses the money he gets from the sales of products to fund an organization dedicated to Eggman.
  • Mad Scientist: While it isn’t as prevalent as Thunderbolt, it is shown that he makes his own version of badniks and helps oversee Thunderbolt's repairs of Metal Sonic when he arrives at their base.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Always seen with a cup of coffee, and even his username in the Eggman supporters group chat is "BaristaMaster2020".
  • Only Sane Man: Seems to be one of the more rational and down-to-earth members of Thunderbolt's group, while ironically also being one of the "true believers" like Thunderbolt and Cassia.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: As Thunderbolt rages over Nicole deactivating Bunnie's bomb and thus removing her leverage on the Hooligan to keep paying her debt, Stone calms her down by stating it doesn't matter now since they have all the funding they need and construction of their Egg Carrier is nearly complete, so their operation to take New Mobotropolis is about to proceed. They can deal with a wayward "piggy bank" at any time of their leisure after their true goal is complete.
  • Token Human: Appears to be the only human among the leadership of the Eggman supporters.

    Cortez
A badger mercenary who works for the Bosses and is responsible for training their troops. He is only loyal to Clove, who beat him in a duel.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Gives a very scathing one to Clove, asking when is she going to asking think for herself rather than remaining at constant whims of others, be it due to Thunderbolt's blackmail or Cassia's fanaticism to Dr. Eggman.
  • BFS: Wields a sword that's larger than he is.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: When they first met, Clove beat him in the span of a few seconds and dislocated his arm when he refused to yield.
  • Expy: A subtle one of Guts.
  • Mythology Gag: Is based on an unused character from Post-SGW Archie Sonic, which was cancelled just before he could properly be introduced.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: The only reason he is working for the Bosses is because Clove beat him in a duel. He only takes orders from her and makes it clear that he's only sticking around until he manages to defeat her.
    Noise Tanks
A tech-obsessed graffiti gang that was recruited into the organization by Cassia.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Barring the time they were Mecha-Mooks in Future, the Noise Tanks weren't evil in JSR just a rival gang. Here they've willingly joined up with the Egg Bosses.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Most of the other groups associated with the Bosses think they're weirdos. Even Clove, who's technically their superior, is creeped out by them.

Other Villains

    Robo-Robotnik/Eggman
The Dr. Eggman of Mobius who was the main foe of the Freedom Fighters, and whose actions lead to the activation of the Super Genesis Wave and the "reboot" of the multiverse.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Even discounting how his actions resulted in the Super Genesis Wave rebooting the multiverse, his tyranny over Mobius and carrying on the work of the original Robotnik of Mobius casts a long shadow over all of the Archie Sonic cast, in particular his roboticization of Sally Acorn and her ongoing efforts to come to terms with it.
  • Hated by All: No one liked Robo-Robotnik, even discounting him being responsible for the Cosmic Retcon of their multiverse that killed and reset so many of their loved ones, for his cruelty and sadism ruling over the world. Everyone in the current universe who learns about him immediately hates him too, even the likes of Metal Sonic and Phage as the current Eggman's creations since they refuse to acknowledge a creator who cared nothing for even his greatest works.
  • Lack of Empathy: Something repeatedly emphasized is Robo-Robotnik's inability to care for anyone other than himself, not even his own creations that he would destroy and refuse to rebuild once he decided they weren't what he wanted. Metal Sonic and Phage refer to him as the "inferior" Doctor after receiving knowledge of what happened to the multiple disposable Metal Sonics as well as the fate of his A.I.'s, and Antoine explicitly finds it hard to accept that the current Eggman would care enough about Metal Sonic to refuse to use him as a suicide bomber.
  • Predecessor Villain: Serves this role to the current Dr. Eggman of the rebooted universe, as his actions are how he even came about. His horrific actions also obviously color how the Archie Sonic cast view the current Eggman.
  • Sadist: After roboticizing Sally, he made sure to make her watch and be conscious the whole time he's "modifying" her in order to draw out her horror and realization she'll never be able to become flesh and blood again without her original parts.

    Rough and Tumble
The criminal skunk brother duo, they are caught by Sally as they engage in their usual antics.
  • The Brute: The two are very strong, especially Tumble.
  • Didn't Think This Through: They try to use their signature Stinkbomb on Sally, forgetting that she's a robot and thus can't smell.
  • Dumb Muscle: Suffice to say these two aren't the brightest villains.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: Their signature gimmick involves doing this in unison. Sally and Nicole decide to do it back at them after their victory. They were not amused.
  • Smelly Skunk: Utilized with their "Stinkbomb Special", which has no effect on Sally since she's currently a robot.
  • Starter Villain: Much like in their comic debut they serve as little more than the first fight in the story for Sally, allowing her to establish her heroic credentials in a new world with a stronger distrust of robots.

    Lien-Da
The villainous one-time leader of the echidnas after they were forced into dimension hopping.
  • Bad Boss: After strong-arming her way into leadership of the echidnas by using the Dark Legion, she proceeds to slave-drive them into marauders and raiders of various Zones for supplies. Anyone not tough enough to keep up gets left behind to die, and she won't hesitate to forcibly legionize dissenters and use the threat of the bombs inside their limbs to make them follow her orders. Unfortunately for her, her lack of foresight eventually causes her to overestimate just how much of her crap even her supposedly loyal Dark Legionaries are willing to tolerate, and a good chunk of them end up siding with Julie-Su in her mutiny in exchange for not being marooned with Lien-Da and her loyalists afterwards just because they couldn't stand the constant fighting anymore.
  • The Baroness: Her title as leader of the Dark Legion is "Kommissar", and she can sometimes be seen sporting a Whip of Dominance to go with that form-fitting black military uniform.
  • Control Freak: Actually has nothing against robbing the sentience of her clan to get them to follow her orders. She even does this to all the adults of the echidnas and to Julie-Su so that she can force her half-sister to follow her orders under threat of death. Deconstructed as all this serves to turn practically all of the echidnas against her in Julie-Su's coup, save for her most die-hard supporters.
  • Cyborg: Though not as apparent as most Legionaries. Most of her cyborg additions are internal or covered under clothing.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Lien-Da has this as a Fatal Flaw. She's never much for planning and more acting when an opportunity sees itself, but never seems to think what to do past a certain point in action or what her opponents are really capable of. She never seemed to register that constantly going from Zone to Zone and raiding them for supplies regardless of the danger present would tire her people and the Dark Legion. And being unconcerned over the deaths of the Dark Legionnaires slowly helps Julie-Su to start a mutiny.
  • Hypocrite: Something Julie-Su calls out Lien-Da for, noting that despite repeatedly saying everything she does is for her people, she gleefully held their wellbeing over her half sister's head and showed zero hesitation or remorse leaving many to die.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: For all of her zeal, even she doesn't want to deal with an unhinged Super Sonic during a Zone raid and orders a retreat, making it the only time ever she done so.
  • Never My Fault: To her, she was doing what was needed for her people rather than her own lust for power and prejudice against other species.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With Julie-Su.
  • Witch with a Capital "B": Julie-Su certainly considered her such, and with valid reason.

    Mecha Sally
A villainous AI put in control of Sally’s roboticized body and flaunts the situation to her advantage.
  • Break Them by Talking: Attempts this several times against Nicole, wielding the circumstances of her creation against her, and against Sally, usually to mock her about how she was helpless against Eggman modifying her or setting her against her friends.
  • Dirty Coward: Accused of this by Tangle, who points out she's awfully quick to resort to using her shared body with Sally to get opponents to hesitate whenever she can't steamroll her opponents. This starts to get under Mecha Sally's robotic shell as she redoubles her efforts to shut Tangle up by killing her.
  • Hate Sink: She's a one-note Card-Carrying Villain who cruelly mocks Sally and her friends while trying to murder the latter with the former helpless to watch, all while using Sally's memories to her advantage. She's rather brutally deleted from existence by Sally and no one sheds a tear over her demise.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The moment she shows up, the story takes a darker turn and establishes the tone of the story as a whole.
  • Logical Weakness: While no slouch in combat, Mecha Sally's main gimmick in the old world is that she acts as a Hope Crusher for the Freedom Fighters, with the sight of their enslaved leader fighting and playing mind games on them whenever they fought messing them up psychologically. While effective against Nicole, it does nothing against Tangle and Whisper who are complete strangers to Sally and are more than willing to turn her to scrap if it wasn't for Nicole. Sure enough, she lasts only two chapters before Sally regains control of her body and deletes her.
  • Robo Speak: What her speech patterns are, at least to the outside world.
  • Starter Villain: Is this for Tangle and Whisper. Her bloodlust shows the difference in ruthlessness between the settings and characters of Archie and IDW.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Increasingly loses her cool as Nicole's viruses and boost to Sally take effect while Sally herself refutes her Break Them by Talking attempts, culminating in her digital avatar wrapping its claws around Sally's digital avatar's neck as she screams that she'll delete her.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Is dealt with in the chapter following her appearance.

    Spoiler Character

THE END

An ancient malevolent entity that once fought the Ancients in the past before getting sealed away by its opponents. However, it is implied that it also existed in the previous universe and the events of Worlds Collide actually released it before the events of Sonic Frontiers.

  • Adaptational Badass: In the Archie version of the Ancient's past, the four Titans had to be backed up by the Ancient Walkers to just repeat the same outcome of it being sealed inside the Titan Supreme while the Ancient heroes died.
  • Ancient Evil: Not only was it the cause of the demise of the current universe's Ancients, but was this to the Ancients of Mobius as well.
  • Appearance Is in the Eye of the Beholder: Like in the game, THE END takes the appearance of whatever the person seeing it perceives as death. It’s implied that seeing THE END's true form drove Elias, Lyco, and Leeta temporarily mad. When Nicole regains a memory of fighting it during the Super Genesis Wave it briefly took the form of Robo-Robotnik and the Iron Queen.
  • Beast of the Apocalypse: Was viewed as such by the ancient Mobians, who referred to THE END as “The Destroyer”.
  • Big Bad: Is the true Big Bad of Sonic Frontiers and is the catalyst for the events of this fic.
  • Black Speech: When it spoke during the multiversal rewrite of the Super Genesis Wave, to most of the denizens of New Mobotropolis it came out more like horrible noise being threaded through the screams of everyone being erased and rewritten. Meanwhile Jules, who being a robian could filter through most of the screaming to hear it clearly, still felt the primal fear of a child scared to death of a monster hiding under the bed with each word.
  • Manipulative Bastard: If what 'THE END' said is true, then that means 'The Source Of All' manipulated Max to ensure Robotnik's rise to power, and try to do the same to Sally with mixed results (Sally rejected bonding with the source, and when it try to manipulate her via 'Future Vision' from the 'Sword of Acorn' she instead gave the sword away to Uma Arachnis children).
  • Walking Spoiler: Is the true Big Bad of Sonic Frontiers and knowledge of them reveals much about the plot & themes of the game and by extension, this fic.

Other

    Honey the Cat
A good natured but egotistical fashion designer.
  • Honest Corporate Executive: Honey the Cat is still a self-promoting fashion designer with tons of stores and isn’t afraid to brag about her wealth, but she’s also more than willing to do the right thing and proves to be incredibly helpful to Julie-Su and Saffron, getting the word out to help the echidnas who returned and pointing them in the direction of the Chaotix.
  • Mythology Gag: Her job as a fashion designer and joining a fighting tournament to promote herself is based off of her original story from Fighting Vipers, the game her character originally came from. Honey the Cat appeared in Sonic the Fighters, albeit a Dummied Out character before she became playable in the Updated Re-release on consoles.
  • Nice Girl: Despite her social status, she seems quite friendly and amiable when she meets others. She only wants to advertise her company, and agreed to give Sonic and co. the Chaos Emeralds if she won the Fighters Tournament.
  • Product Placement: An in-universe example; she only participated in the Fighters Tournament to promote her company.

    Gemerl
A robot who now acts as guardian of Cream and Vanilla.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He's very protective of Cream. Part of the reason why he holds a grudge against Julie-Su is that her actions endangered the girl.
  • Extra Eyes: The blue crystal on his forehead crest is a third eye.
  • Just a Machine: Is the victim of this thanks to Julie-Su and Saffron seeing him as just another robot killing machine that just happens to be helping Cream and Vanilla. He very much hates being seen as this but doesn’t say anything, just clenching his fist in anger.
  • Robo Speak: Speaks in this manner in this fic.
  • Undying Loyalty: He's developed this towards Cream and Vanilla since they adopted him as a member of their family.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Despite having a very mechanical speech pattern and requesting orders like a robot, it’s very clear that Gemerl does take pride in being a member of Vanilla and Cream’s family and seeks to keep them safe. He repeatedly asserts to Julie-Su that she endangered his family and makes Cream’s safety his top priority, outright arguing against letting the girl go out to find Julie-Su because of the danger the echidna might be for her.

    Cream the Rabbit
A young child who is close friends with Amy and many others. Also closely accompanied by her Chao, Cheese.
  • Flight: Cream can fly using her ears as wings.
  • The Heart: Her greatest strength comes from her emotional strength, managing to talk down Julie-Su and giving the first bit of emotional support in several months.
  • Just a Kid: Cream's youngest of the cast and, though she has fought alongside with the others, it's usually the reason given why she doesn't participate in more dangerous missions.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Everything that occurred during the Metal Virus was this to her, to the point that after the crisis has passed she’s seeing a therapist.
  • Wise Beyond Her Years: She’s much more mature than her age would suggest. She has plenty of experience dealing with trauma and is able to use this experience to help snap Julie-Su out of her Heroic BSoD.

    Zangle the Zone Cop
A rookie Zone Cop who has taken Zonic’s beat after he was forced into administration. She unfortunately needs to pull double duty monitoring the Prime and Sol Dimensions, a role she’s incredibly underequipped and inexperienced for.
  • Alternate Self: To Tangle the Lemur, however she’s part of an organization wanting to instill their brand of order on the Multiverse rather than a fun-loving her.
  • Butt-Monkey: She’s overworked, stressed, and gets zero respect from Blaze who used to at least be wary of the Zone Cops
  • Sucksessor: Unfortunately is this due to no fault of her own. It’s mentioned by Zonic that she’s a rookie who is taking far more work than she should for a now thankless job.
