- Decomposite Character: In the anime adaptation: he was split into two characters, namely Kouichi Sanada and Kazuki Aihara. Probably justified to give at least two girls their good endings.
Kouichi Sanada

- Decomposite Character: One half of the original Kouichi Aihara; he gained his appearance and given name.
Kazuki Aihara
Voiced by: Takahiro Mizushima (JP)
- Decomposite Character: One half of the original Kouichi Aihara; he gained his soccer skills and family name.
- Test Kiss: shares one with Eriko in the first episode of the anime.
Love Interests
Yuumi Hoshino
Voiced by: Ami Koshimizu (JP)
- Derailing Love Interests: In the anime. Kouichi "broke up" with her so that he could be with Mao.
- Friendless Background: it is often hinted that she didn't have a very active social life before befriending Kouichi and the gang.
Mao Mizusawa
Voiced by: Haruna Ikezawa (JP)
- Gamer Chick: she's often seen competing with Kouichi late into the night.
- Gratuitous French: occasionally, considering that she spent 3 years with her parents in France.
- The Hero: She is the main protagonist.
- Like Brother and Sister: with Kouichi and Kazuki, althoughshe eventually begins developing romantic feelings for Kouichi as the anime goes on, which leads to a Relationship Upgrade.
- She Is All Grown Up: the first thing Kouichi notices after she returns is how attractive and energetic she's become by comparison to her frumpier, more studious self back in Jr. High.
- Shower of Awkward: occurs during hers and Kouichi's first meeting after she returns from France after 3 years.
- Stepford Smiler: she tries to keep it together as she observes Kouichi's deepening relationship with Yumi, despite the fact that her growing feelings for him are tearing her apart.
- Victorious Childhood Friend: In the anime. She's the one who gets Kouichi.
Narumi Satonaka
Voiced by: Kaori Mizuhashi (JP)
- Demoted to Extra: Narumi is one of the love interests in the original game. She quickly became a background character in the anime as well as the manga.
Asuka Sakino
Voiced by: Ryō Hirohashi (JP)
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Urges Kazuki to go and be with Eriko
- Passionate Sports Girl: she's very passionate about soccer and arguably the most athletic character within the series.
Eriko Futami
Voiced by: Rie Tanaka
- Brilliant, but Lazy: Only in the anime. Genius-level intellect... gets 0 on tests because she doesn't fill them out. Averted in the Various Heroines manga when she did this once for an experiment, but otherwise is very hard working (when she needs to be).
- Defrosting Ice Queen: Started defrosting when she found Kazuki walking towards her apartment, ready to confess.
- Extreme Omnivore: Is referred as "Taste Blind" for eating stuff like berry ramen
- Improbably High I.Q.: Her IQ was said to be 190 in the anime.

- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She helps Hiiragi in distributing pamphlets for the indie film.
Eiji Kai
Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai (JP)
- Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: the quiet, mysterious brooding boy to Mao's gentle girl.
- Hidden Depths: he's quite good at playing the saxophone and is a budding jazz musician.
- Hidden Heart of Gold: First few episodes before warming up to Mao-neechan.
