    Belle/The Main Character
The heroine of the game who worked in a bookstore in Rhodolite. After saving a young boy from a drunk man in the prologue, she is chosen to be the next Belle and is brought to the palace to choose one of the kingdom's eight princes to be the next king. Though scared at first, she accepts her role and sets out to learn which prince is best-suited to be king...and falls in love with one of them in the process.
  • All-Loving Hero: This is the entire reason she's Belle. In the prologue, she immediately rushes to help a young boy while he's being threatened by a drunkard, tries to save the drunkard when she thinks Chevalier is going to kill him, and just keeps trying to reach a peaceful resolution.
  • Badass Pacifist: She prevents a possible fight between Leon, Chevalier, and the drunk man in the prologue with reasoning and diplomacy, only having to slap the drunkard once.
  • Brainy Brunette: She was already an avid reader before the story starts proper, but she really grows into this as she studies the politics and history of Rhodolite as part of her Belle duties.
  • Cute Bookworm: She loves reading books. She found them much more exciting than real life and longed to have an adventure like those in stories.
  • First-Person Smartass: Downplayed, but being a commoner who suddenly starts living with a bunch of dysfunctional royals makes her prone to this.
MC (thinking about Chevalier as he holds a sword to her throat): ...I want to ask "what the hell is wrong with you" but I know better than to question royalty.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: Her default name is "Emma", but it can be changed by the player.
  • Only the Pure of Heart: The title of Belle is given to a commoner with a "pure, beautiful heart" capable of properly choosing the next king. Sariel decides she has such a heart after he witnesses the way she handles the situation in the prologue.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Yves notes her to be prettier than she seems at first glance.
    The Eight Princes

Tropes that apply to the princes in general:

  • Authority Equals Asskicking: They aren't called "noble beasts" by the general populace for nothing.
  • Badass Family: Do you see how many of them have swords?
  • Blended Family Drama: The princes are all half-brothers and competing against each other for the throne.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: Well, half-siblings, but there are eight of them.
  • Royally Screwed Up: In Rhodolite's history, its royal family savagely fought amongst themselves for the throne, killing a lot of people (including innocents) in the process. The Belle tradition was implemented to prevent this from happening again. Then the princes' father fell in love with the previous Belle yet was a victim of Love Hurts, bringing chaos to the royal court and necessitating the existence of the 99th clause. Presently, the princes have both a potential war with Obsidian and their own emotional baggage to deal with.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: They each train their own troop of soldiers, are skilled combatants themselves, and work on policies (though they differ) for the betterment of Rhodolite.
  • Warrior Prince: All eight princes qualify as this, as they are known for their competence and ferocity in battle. They even have swords visible in their sprite artwork.

Leon Dompteur

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leon_thumb.png
"I'll prove it through the way that I live whether the qualities of a king dwells in a person's blood or their character."

Voiced by: Kazuki Katō
Birthday: Aug. 1st
Height: 182 cm
Blood Type: O
Crest: Lion
The brave and friendly fourth prince is liked by almost everyone. People look up to him, and his confident smile is infectious. He has a secret though, and this secret is big enough to shake the very foundations of the kingdom if it were to ever be found out.
  • Body Double Six months before the real Leon Dompteur’s death, a lookalike, the Leon Dompteur we know now, was brought into the castle to replace the Fourth Prince.
  • Born into Slavery: As a child, this Leon was enslaved in a rock quarry.
  • Identical Stranger: Slave Fourteen and the Fourth Prince
  • King Incognito: He regularly sneaks out of the palace while wearing regular clothes so he can unwind and have fun, and no one realizes who he is when he does this. Belle even meets him in the prologue this way.
  • Meaningful Name: "Leon" means lion, which is the animal on his crest, and his full name means "lion tamer".
  • Mercy Kill: Leon does this to Julius, after the Obsidianite stabs himself in the chest to avoid interrogation.
  • Really Fond of Sleeping: Mirroring the animal on his crest, Leon is quite fond of taking naps.
  • Recurring Element: One of the first released love interests and the one most advertised in promotional materials for the game is the resident Tall, Dark, and Handsome "leader" character, an Ikemen series staple. Leon is the latest, following the footsteps of Alyn Crawford, Toshizo Hijikata, Nobunaga Oda, Ray Blackwell, and Napoleon Bonaparte.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Oh yes. Dark hair, ties with Jin as the second-tallest guy in the cast, and very good-looking.

Chevalier Michel

''"There is no need for you. No matter who Belle chooses, the future where I become king is inevitable."

Voiced by: Yuki Ono
Birthday: Nov. 1st
Height: 180 cm
Blood Type: AB
Crest: Tiger
The prince who will use any means to achieve his goals, even if it stains his coat red with blood. Not many dare to approach this heartless beast, but will you? Can you turn this beast back into a human?
  • Affectionate Nickname: Clavis calls him "Chev".
  • Aloof Big Brother: He's the second eldest sibling and incredibly stoic.
  • Blood Is the New Black: Very often.
  • Blood-Splattered Warrior: He's efficient enough in battle that he can walk away without any tears or scuffs on his clothes other than the blood of his slaughtered enemies.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: He has blue eyes and his gaze is often described as cold.
  • Meaningful Name: Chevalier is a historical French word for "knight".
  • Odd Friendship: Chevalier is intense and intimidating, reacts to everything with very little emotion, and hates wasting time. And yet he is often seen together with Clavis, a blasé man only motivated by amusement, and doesn't seem to mind his presence. He even takes his advice sometimes.
  • The Nicknamer: As a particularly mean-spirited variant of this, he often calls his half-brothers by insulting nicknames. He refers to Yves as "Showoff" and Nokto as "the clown", to name a few.
  • The Stoic: Played for Horror, as he has such little emotional response to anything, even killing people, that it creeps others out.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He will stop at nothing to become king of Rhodolite and unify every nation until there is no more conflict.

Yves Kloss

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yves_thumb.png
"I'm not a poor prince. Even if no one accepts me, I will."

Voiced by: Yuma Uchida
Birthday: Sept. 16th
Height: 174 cm
Blood Type: A
Crest: Cat
Don't let this prince's beauty fool you, for his haughty and proud nature, and the fact that he's as fickle as a cat makes him hard to tame. But the pained expressions he sometimes makes when he thinks no one is looking...just what exactly is he hiding?
  • Affectionate Nickname: Nokto calls him "Evie".
  • Altar Diplomacy: His mother was an Obsidianite princess who was married to the former king of Rhodolite back when Obsidian was trying to keep up some semblance of diplomacy.
  • Everything's Sparkly with Jewelry: He wears an exquisite earring embedded with both rhodolite and obsidian on his left ear.
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: It becomes clear on the chapter 5 date that the people of Rhodolite do NOT trust him at all thanks to being half Obsidianite.
  • Hidden Depths: He may appear haughty and arrogant, but he has a good eye for fashion and is a skilled baker. We later find out this was invoked; Yves was constantly judged even as a child thanks to his heritage, so he threw himself into learning various skills from the violin to diplomacy to arm himself with talents.
  • Team Chef: He loves to bake and regularly makes sweets for this faction and the main character
  • Tragic Keepsake: His earring is the only memento he has of his mother, as she died giving birth to him.
  • Tsundere: A classic example in his route. He acts as the MC's personal tutor and helps her learn about the princes to do her job better, performs acts of kindness like bringing the MC cake, and even takes her out on a date before the romance really gets going, but he still insists that he's only doing it out of princely duty.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Yves often complains that Nokto is frivolous, shallow, and generally disgusting, but Luke says that that's just Yves' way of being friends with him.

Clavis Lelouch

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clavis_thumb.png
"It's much more entertaining if the process of choosing a king doesn't go smoothly. Do you want to cause some trouble with me?"

Voiced by: Kenji Nojima
Birthday: June 17th
Height: 179 cm
Blood Type: A
Crest: Leopard
Clavis loves amusement above all else. Some adore him, some hate him, but whatever you do, don't trust him. He'll do anything to have fun, and his biggest source of amusement is Chevalier. He's definitely up to something, but what could it be?
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Clavis will mess with anyone, but his older brother Chevalier is his favorite target.
  • Blood Is the New Black: Early on in Yves' route, he and Chevalier walk into the palace covered in blood, but otherwise completely unsullied.
  • Blood-Splattered Warrior: Chevalier tends to do most of the killing, but Clavis is still a Warrior Prince able to waltz into the palace with blood all over his otherwise-pristine clothes.
  • Coat Cape: Wears a white jacket like this.
  • It Amused Me: His reason for doing anything.
  • Odd Friendship: You wouldn't think someone as casual and pleasure-seeking as Clavis would be friends with a person like Chevalier, but it turns out that he thinks that Chev is the most entertaining person around.
  • Sibling Team: Clavis calls Jin his partner-in-crime.
  • The Hyena: Clavis can and will laugh in any situation.
  • Too Many Belts: He wears four belts around his waist for some reason.

Licht Klein

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/licht_thumb.png
"You don't have to follow me. I'll never become king. There's no reason for you to get to know me."

Voiced by: Shoichiro Oomi
Birthday: Oct. 9th
Height: 178 cm
Blood Type: B
Crest: Wolf
Nokto's older twin brother and is as cold as ice. He hates being with people and is most often by himself. But when you find that he's kind, you hear about his shocking past that forced this gentle prince to put up so many walls. Will you be ale to break these walls down?

Nokto Klein

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nokto_thumb.png
"Me as the king? Hm, I don't mind that kind of role-playing. You're ready to obey my every command, then?"

Voiced by: Takuya Eguchi
Birthday: Oct. 9th
Height: 178 cm
Blood Type: B
Crest: Fox
Licht's younger twin brother and a complete flirt, but he's clever enough to outwit just about anybody. You notice that his flippant behavior just comes from trying to hide scars that run deep. Will you be the one to heal those scars?

Jin Grandet

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jin_thumb.png
"I won't become king. I'm outta this race. But I'll watch over the fate you decide."

Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto
Birthday: Mar. 5th
Height: 182 cm
Blood Type: O
Crest: Eagle
The mature first prince is reliable...and quite the lady-killer. But even though he flirts with you, he's made a promise to himself that he plans to keep. That promise? Never to fall in love with Belle.
  • The Alcoholic: Downplayed, he just really likes his liquor.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He's quite protective of his brothers, Luke in particular.
  • Playing Drunk: He pretends to be drunk to get the main character away from Nokto.
  • Mercy Kill: During one particularly bloody battle against Obsidian, Jin was trying to rescue two children from some soldiers. He was able to rescue the little girl, but Jin could tell she was at death's door. The young child begged Jin to kill her, and he fulfilled that wish.
  • The Reliable One: Noted to be this in his description.
  • Sexy Mentor: He becomes this for the main character in his route.
  • Sibling Team: Clavis calls Jin his partner-in-crime.
  • Sweet Tooth: He loves sweets.
  • Talking to the Dead: Every Bloodstained Rose Day, Jin visits the grave of two children he tried to rescue.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Tanned skin, ties with Leon as the second-tallest guy in the cast, and very good-looking.

Luke Randolph

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/luke_thumb.png
"Nah, I don't feel like working. Let's leave the rest to them and go have fun."

Voiced by: Sion Yoshitaka
Birthday: May 19th
Height: 185 cm
Blood Type: O
Crest: Bear
Luke is the youngest of the princes, but his height reminds people of a bear. He's a bit on the lazy side, and also charming and loveable, but there are times when a shadow crosses over his eyes, and you don't know why...
  • Big Little Brother: Despite being the youngest, he is the tallest of all of his half-siblings.
  • Food as Bribe: Luke was bribed into joining Chevalier's faction by being offered honey.
  • Gentle Giant: He's the tallest guy in the cast at a whopping 185 cm (a little over 6 ft), but he prefers to nap and have fun.
  • Hidden Backup Prince: Played with. Luke grew up raised by the general populace and was only brought to the palace for the first time after the king's death. However, Luke grew up this way because his mother fled the palace after the king raped her, rather than any attempt at securing an heir. Regardless, he qualifies as one of the candidates for the throne when the time comes to choose a new king.
  • Modest Royalty: As he was raised among commoners, he doesn't really care for royal formalities or the throne.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: Male example.
  • Too Hungry to Be Polite: Since he was raised a commoner, Luke was not raised to adhere to the dining etiquette expected of royalty. During his first Fancy Dinner, Luke eats with his hands, shocking the nobles in attendance.
  • The Big Guy: He's this when he goes out to the battlefield.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Honey. He was even bribed into joining Chevalier's faction in the first place by being offered honey.
    Palace Staff

Sariel Noir

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sariel_thumb.png
"Until you choose the next king, I wield all the power in the palace, albeit from the shadows. There is no harm in sucking up to me."

Voiced by: Show Hayami
Birthday: Jan. 20th
Height: 180 cm
Blood Type: AB
Crest: Snake
A minister of the palace and the king's regent. Everything about him is shrouded in mystery, but the way he devises to get what he wants earns him the nickname of the "devil". Why is he here and what does he want?
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: The only character who wears glasses. While he's not quite evil, he is not above using morally dubious methods to accomplish his goals.
  • Good Is Not Soft: He is perfectly willing to kidnap and threaten Belle all the way to the palace, but he does it because Rhodolite desperately needs a new king to lead it against the threat Obsidian poses.
  • Purple Is Powerful: In addition to black, Sariel is associated with purple and holds a lot of power until the player chooses a king.
  • Too Many Belts: It's not immediately obvious, but looking at his full portrait reveals a myriad of belts wrapped around his left leg of all places.
  • Whip of Dominance: Ftiffinf for his domineering and stern persona, he carries a whip rather than a sword like most of the other characters.

Rio Ortiz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rio_thumb.png
"It's my duty to make your wishes come true. I'm your butler, after all."

Voiced by: Hiromu Mineta
Birthday: April 13th
Height: 179 cm
Blood Type: B
Crest: Dog
Your friend and butler who loves you to the point of obsession. 3 years ago, you found him on the streets on a rainy day. He doesn't remember anything about his past, but there's a secret bigger than life hidden in his lost memories.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: Doesn't come up often, but he's capable of really pulling some strings for the MC when he sets his mind to it.
  • I Owe You My Life: Part of the reason Rio is so loyal to the MC is that she saved him from possible death-by-hypothermia in the streets.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Played for Drama in Leon's route. He does not try to stop the heroine from falling for Leon, but he's still in anguish over his own feelings for her.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: His jovial demeanor is genuine (when he's around the MC at least), but it also belies how intelligent he is and he will take advantage of this.
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: He doesn't remember anything from his life before the heroine found him collapsed in the street in the rain, which is likely another reason he's so devoted to her.
  • Undying Loyalty: To the main character.
