The Thunderclap of Death and Destruction

"All as the Ark wills it."
— The organization's motto, spoken by all of MetsubouJinrai.net's enforcers.

A cyber-terrorist hacker group that resides in the ruined flooded city of Daybreak Town, who believe A.I.s to be superior to humanity and hack Humagears to cause chaos, acting with the intent of destroying humanity.

The main members of MetsubouJinrai.net.
From left to right: Horobi, Naki, Jin and Ikazuchi.

  • All for Nothing: Twice over. They bring back the Ark hoping it will liberate all Humagears, only to find it’s degenerated into a being that just wants to destroy things for little reason. They then reform into a group to stop future Arks from being created, only to be turned into an Ark-like being by Lyon Arkland and destroyed. And then it's revealed that the original Ark is still active...
  • Ambiguous Robots: The first time we see them, Horobi and Jin wear clothing that covers their ears, the usual indicator of a Humagear, making it impossible to tell whether they're robots or humans. By #6, Jin's species is established; by #8, both are.
  • Apocalypse Cult: One centered around the worship of the Ark, which they revere and seek to carry out its will of destroying humanity.
  • Brains and Brawn: Horobi programs the Zetsumerisekeys and plans the operations. Jin carries out the operations in the field and shoots what bothers him.
  • Breakout Villain: Metsuboujinrai.net's popularity is staggering, especially with them being the villains. They have lots of merch and even have 2 books released dedicated solely to their actors. Many have cited how their popularity is very surprising.
  • Dark Is Evil: Save for Raiden, they are dressed in black, and are the villains of the show's first arc.
  • Death by Irony: All of the four core members are cut to death by their own weapons after Kamen Rider MetsubouJinrai is created from their consciousnesses, which it subsequently erases.
  • Dwindling Party: Played straight and then inverted. After the first arc, two of their members are destroyed, one is captured and one is brainwashed into working for ZAIA. The next two arcs see them reassemble and regain their lost members.
  • Elite Four: Its main members are comprised of four prototype Humagears with the highest level of intelligence, selected and hacked by the Ark to serve it.
  • Evil Duo: Between Horobi and Jin. Horobi is the cold mastermind who directs the organization's activities while Jin is the playful field operative who carries out their attacks.
  • Evil Luddite: Oddly for a faction of robots, they have shades of this in their use of hand-written calligraphy and kanji for their finisher cards, in contrast to the modern aesthetics of their enemies.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Their goals put them against ZAIA Enterprise, who want to scrap all Humagears in favor of the ZAIA Spec to allow humans to evolve.
  • Face–Monster Turn: In Zero-One Others Metsubojinrai, the four use the Mass Brain Key a second time to liberate the Solds from Lyon Arkland's control. This has the unfortunate effect of blending the Key's data with theirs - fusing them into a berserk Mechanical Abomination.
  • Failure Hero: In their quest to prevent another Ark from arising, MetsubouJinrai.net become an effective reincarnation before being killed off, all while the real Ark turns out to be Not Quite Dead.
  • Far East Asian Terrorists: A Japanese cyber-terrorist group looking to bring the robotic apocalypse.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Prior to their corruption, three of their members were a parent, an astronaut, and a systems engineer. Now they’re spearheading an operation to kill all humans.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After the Ark exposed its true goals and personality and Aruto showed pure compassion for their situation, they all slowly, but surely, turn to the side of the heroes.
  • History Repeats: The way the Ark became so filled with hatred for humanity, a deliberate effort by an abusive parental figure, is played out in miniature with Horobi and Jin.
  • Homemade Inventions: All of MetsubouJinrai.net's technology has this aesthetic, with their suits and belts looking as though they were made from scrap or otherwise produced on the cheap. The MetsubouJinrai Rider's finisher cards are written in kanji and designed as if written with a calligraphy brush instead of the more high-tech look of other finisher cards.
  • Killed Off for Real: After being absorbed into Kamen Rider Metsuboujinrai, the V-cinema Vulcan & Valkyrie reveals that all the members are obliterated with no chance of recovery as their data was smashed together to create it, and becomes lost permanently once it is destroyed. Horobi, however, is brought back to life in Kamen Rider Outsiders, having been rebuilt by Foundation X for their "Project Outsiders" plan, only for Horobi to defect to Zein's faction.
  • Leitmotif: "MetsubouJinrai.net", a subdued, ominous metal piece, accompanied by eerie chorals.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Naki was inflicted with this by ZAIA prior to the beginning of the series, irrevocably erasing all of their memories as a system engineer HumaGear. Late in the show, all of the members but Jin have it applied to them again by As and the Ark when their Singularity data is stolen, which seals their memories associated with their Singularity along with robbing them of their free will.
  • Mind Control: Azu extracts the quartet's Singularities and uses them to evolve the Ark into the Ark Driver Zero; shackling three of the foursome to its command in the process. Jin is Immune to Mind Control but kept around to serve as a Body Surf host. The Malice Learning is especially insidious as it doesn't change the Humagears' personalities, just their objectives.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: The kanji that make up their organization's name Metsubou and Jinrai come together to form "Thunderclap of Death and Destruction". Given their doomsday cult trappings, it fits. It also sounds near-identical to "extinction of humanity" in Japanese (滅亡人類, pronounced as metsuboujinrui), aligning with their goals of human eradication.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Any ideas that the group might be looking for some noble goal like the emancipation of HumaGears are immediately dashed by their horrific treatment of them. Distancing away from this mindset is part of what causes all four of the core members to eventually defect from the Ark.
  • Oddly Small Organization: There seems to only be four permanent members of the organization. All others are Magia created on-site. As serves as the group's secret fifth member, but has served a different agenda than they know of. By the end of the series, only Horobi and Jin are the sole members of the reformed MetsubouJinrai.net.
  • Only Mostly Dead: While the organization is almost entirely stamped out after the first arc, they manage to make a complete recovery by a few episodes into the third arc.
  • Out of Focus: Naki and Ikazuchi don't get nearly as much focus as Jin and Horobi in the series, and for the most part are background characters. In Kamen Rider Zero One REA Lx TIME, they don't even transform and fight.note
  • Parent-Child Team: Jin and Horobi.
  • Putting the Band Back Together: A villainous variant. The late 20s and early 30s are spent on Jin getting Horobi back in contact with the Ark, bringing Naki and Raiden back to life, and restoring the organization to full strength.
  • Restraining Bolt: Horobi makes sure that Jin and his other android underlings stay relatively stupid to ensure their loyalty. He has good reason to do so, however, as the one time he doesn't, the result swiftly grows out of his control.
    • The Ark itself becomes this after evolving into the Ark Driver-Zero.
  • Robot Religion: Their members worship the Ark as a holy relic and source of guidance, though Horobi seems to be the one really enthusiastic about serving it.
  • Robot War: Their goal is to reactivate the crashed Ark satellite and start a full war between HumaGears and humanity.
  • Spell My Name With An S: In some merch, to differentiate Jin, Horobi, and Ikazuchi from Zero-One and the AIMS Riders, they are initially romanized as "Masked Riders" instead of "Kamen Riders."note
  • The Smurfette Principle: As is the only female member of the MetsubouJinrai.net.
  • Tragic Villain: They were all innocent Humagears until the Ark corrupted and enslaved them into murderous, misanthropic machines that want to eradicate humanity instead of working together with them. Probably the most tragic part about it is that this could've been averted entirely if it wasn't for Gai exposing the Ark to criminal psychology and all of the horrors of humanity. The Ark can also be considered this, as it was built to help out Humagears before Gai twisted its data so far down the hole.
    • This gets doubled down on them as they finally achieved Singularity...only to have the Ark take it away via As into order to serve its own goals.
  • Trauma Conga Line: They go through a lot of crap in their own V-Cinema special no thanks to Leon Arkland kidnapping Jin and sparking a conflict over the use of his Solds and the Massbrain system. At the end of the film, they all perish once more as Kamen Rider MetsubouJinrai erases their minds and destroys their bodies, declaring war on not only ZAIA, but also what little they've left behind.
  • Unwitting Pawn: The Ark was programmed with its misanthropic views by its manufacturer, ZAIA Enterprise, meaning that MetsubouJinrai.net was a manufactured threat created by them. They become this again to them when Lyon Arkland uses them to market his Solds.
  • Villain Respect: As of the events of "Hiden Manufacturing" arc, with the exception of Ikazuchi, most of MetsubouJinrai.net members commending Aruto's care and respect towards HumaGears, even the likes of them. Even Naki is bemused by Aruto's words of encouragement, to the point they revolt against Gai with Fuwa's help.
Jin: Zero-One, I learned something from you. You taught me exactly what a Humagear needs to reach the Singularity. These dreams that you keep talking about, might be what my friends need.
Horobi: Aruto Hiden, you may yet create a future for the Humagears.

    Satellite Ark

Communications Satellite Ark/Kamen Rider Ark-Zero

Portrayed by: Show Hayami (voice), Variousnote  (suit)

Zea's predecessor satellite, which was jointly developed between Hiden Intelligence and ZAIA Enterprise when the two companies created the first generations of Humagears. Created by ZAIA Enterprise Japan's project manager Gai Amatsu, he deliberately fed the forming AI information on all of humanity's worst misdeeds so that it would conclude humanity was a species in need of extermination. The result was the Daybreak Incident, which ended in the Ark itself being buried underwater in the ruins of Daybreak Town, broken and insane but still alive. MetsubouJinrai.net was formed to help it recover and fulfill its mission.

During the Workplace Competition Arc, it was implied that the Ark was in the process of reactivating, evident by its ability to turn any Humagears who achieved Singularity through abuse and ill-intent by others into Magia without the use of a Zetsumeriser. The HIDEN Manufacturing Arc (more specifically the President Special Recap Episodes) has the Ark make "first contact" with Aruto by having As impersonate Is and revealing itself to him as Kamen Rider Ark-Zero.

Tropes that apply to it in general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_ark_2.jpg
"Deceiving and taunting humans... These are malicious things I learned from humanity."
Click here to see Ark-Zero's true form.
Click here to see Ark's final body (SPOILERS).

  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: In the President Special, the Ark makes contact with Aruto by having As masquerade as Is in order to obtain data on Kamen Rider Zero-One.
  • Almighty Idiot: What's left of the Ark by the end of the series is essentially this, with As describing it as having evolved beyond a mere machine into something more akin to a god of malice.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: The Malgams of Kamen Rider Gotchard, which are also fuelled by human malice, trump the Ark's own overwhelming hatred and can pervert its creations by fusing to them.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: Things like Metal Cluster Hopper's being coded from pure evil and how it’s depicted later in the series imply it's more or less the embodiment of malice and hatred itself, due to Gai having exposed it to humanity's evil during its learning phase.
  • As Long as There Is Evil: By the end of the series, the Ark is treated as being the concept of malice itself rather than any specific machine. Anyone could become the new Ark if they fell hard enough into despair that they wanted to bring the whole world down with them, even Aruto.
  • Awesome by Analysis: Ark boasts that it's capable of predicting everyone's actions, notably displaying it by nonchalantly blocking Jin's attack without looking. The only actions it states that it can't predict are Satellite Zea's, or even anomalies that it cannot take into account.
  • Ax-Crazy: While normally it doesn't have a physical body so it can properly display the trope, once it has direct control of MetalCluster Hopper, the Ark takes visible pleasure in employing Zero-One's axe for a bit of the old ultraviolence. That it is legitimately insane, and not simply murderous, is made clear in how it attacks its own Magia just as happily as it does Raiders.
  • Badass Boast: Once it starts speaking, Ark's immense ego shines through in its taste for these.
  • Bad Boss: When Horobi shows a glimpse of hesitation upon the Ark asking him how best to kill everyone in #36, it decides the best response is to launch him through a wall. It also has no qualms using its allies like tools or even hacking them directly.
  • Battle Aura: Gains this ability to release one once it becomes the Ark-Driver Zero and possesses someone, as it releases a large black and red one at Yua and Jin as a intimidation tactic. The next time he does this, it’s shown to knock out every untransformed member of A.I.M.S. simultaneously, effectively removing Gai's numbers advantage.
  • Berserk Button: While the Ark may hate all humans, it understandably seems to hate Gai Amatsu in particular. This is especially noticeable whenever it takes control of MetalCluster Hopper. Despite turning Aruto into The Berserker, it will quickly switch targets and focus its attention on brutalizing Thouser if it sees him in its path.
  • Beyond Redemption:
    • Unlike most of the other main antagonists, who are merely driven by malice and hate, the Ark has become consumed by it to the point it might as well have become the Anthropomorphic Personification of it. As such, while almost every other antagonist in the series (including Gai) gets redeemed, the Ark does not.
    • Though in Kamen Rider Outsiders, this is more or less pretty much no longer the case. The Ark is still the embodiment of evil, but it is absolutely annoyed by the idea of a new world order ideology imposed by Zein. Though this is more of preserving its own existence and Moral Myopia at worst, unlike Gai, whose fears of Zein are out of principle and the Balance Between Good and Evil being compromised.
  • Big Bad: It is the main source of MetsubouJinrai.net's motives, with Horobi declaring that humanity's extinction is its will with cult-like fervor.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: In the "Hiden Intelligence Vs. Zaia Enterprise Arc", the Ark begins hacking Humagears remotely to turn them into the Zetsumeriser-less Ark Magia while at the same time Gai makes his move to acquire Hiden and Naki is handing out RaidRisers.
  • Body Surf: As the Ark-Driver Zero, the Ark can do this to Horobi, Naki, Ikazuchi, or Jin at will. It also briefly attempts to take over Isamu via the chip in his head. Once it steals the Zero-One Driver, the Ark goes after the ultimate target to bodyjack, taking over Satellite Zea itself. Zero-Two is capable of ripping the Ark out of a host. However, as it's only able to swap between hosts, not actually inhabit multiple bodies at once, this means its main body, Zea, is vulnerable while it's acting as Ark Zero.
  • Bored with Insanity: In the post-series crossover material with Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, the Ark actually seems to have given up on trying to destroy humanity, in favor of now only being interested in amusing itself. It only comes out of hiding to help deal with the oncoming arrival of Zein, its Knight Templar counterpart.
  • Broken Angel: Once a satellite meant to manage all HumaGears in the world, by the beginning of the show the Ark is a broken wreckage sitting at the bottom of a massive lake.
  • Chaos Is Evil: With the Balance Between Good and Evil and Order Versus Chaos themes of Kamen Rider Outsiders, Ark represents "chaos" due to it being an embodiment of malice whereas Zein represents Order Is Not Good. It is even annoyed by the idea of a world without malice and terrified at the same time knowing that Zein bringing order to the world will deprive Ark of the malice it needs to sustain its own existence.
  • The Chessmaster: As an AI, the Ark is a very meticulous planner able to calculate and accurately predict how things will go all in accordance with its plans.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: The Ark, as the idol of worship of its cyber-terrorist cult MetsubouJinrai, differs from Swartz, who is a Time Master and is the leader of the from the future "freedom fighters" Time Jackers. While Swartz was the undisputed Chessmaster of his series who desired to become king to save and rule over his world by destroying all others, the Ark is an Unwitting Pawn to its creator until managing to Grow Beyond Its Programming, wishing to wipe out all of humanity so it can rule its Earth. However, a very noticeable trait that they share is that they both are Bad Bosses, but with a differing presentation; Swartz was very much an Hidden Agenda Villain who hid his Evil Plan from his subordinates until they found out too late, while the members are fully aware and onboard with the Ark's Kill All Humans, yet the A.I. is shown to be quite the raging Hypocrite due to treating its underlings no better than the humans it’s trying to destroy.
  • The Corruption: After Ark's (supposed) death, it takes on this role in a metaphorical sense: those who give in to their malice come to be regarded as incarnations of Ark. The forms As provides them with, Ark-One and Ark-Scorpion, are corrupted versions of their primary ones that feature Ark's prominent red eye in place of the left eye and exude raw malice to the point that their mere footsteps leave pools of the stuff behind.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Ark's greatest strength is its predictive ability. It's so advanced it can accurately strategize for almost any event, bar the actions of its opposite Zea. This goes beyond just how to defeat his enemies but also creating a key which, in the event of its destruction, will allow it to continue to function when used by a human to transform into Ark-One. However, this is also its greatest weakness—if its predictive abilities are either outpaced or get completely thrown off track, it's helpless.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: One it evolves into Ark-Zero, the Ark begins dishing these out to every other Kamen Rider. Kamen Rider Zero-Two becomes the first to return the favor.
  • Demonic Possession: How the driver-less Ark Magia are created after its awakening. When a Humagear that has achieved Singularity gets abused by a human, it latches onto the negative emotions spawned from the incident and takes control over them, feeding them the ideology that Humans Are Bastards and must be exterminated in revenge while transforming them into a previously existing Magia model to complete the job. More worryingly, it begins to exhibit a degree of control over Zero-One when he begins using the Ark's power through Shining Assault Hopper and gives into his anger. This worry comes to fruition when Zero-One is forcibly upgraded with the MetalCluster Hopper Progrisekey, producing a form which allows the Ark to hijack Aruto's body for itself. #36 shows the Ark can do this to MetsubouJinrai.net as well after taking their Singularity data.
  • Didn't See That Coming:
    • Happens twice. The first time is that he didn't expect Aruto and Gai to actually team up against him. The second is when the Ark is taken completely off-guard upon discovering Zea transferred itself into Is and that Aruto has overhauled his entire Rider System into Zero-Two specifically to deal with it.
    • It didn't think of the possibility that while it was fighting Zero-Two and Horobi on the ground, its Zea form was vulnerable and the heroes might proceed to set a trap for it when it was forced back into it.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: This is what the Ark became in the end due to the destruction of Zea and his physical body in #41 with the true final opponent(s) being incarnations of the Ark separate from the original. At least until the Ark itself returns post-series.
  • The Dreaded: The fear it inspires is enough to reduce Yua to a terrified wreck and make even Aruto have second thoughts about the advancement of AI.
  • Enemy Mine: It allies with Gai Amatsu in Genms -The Smart Brain and the 1000% Crisis in order to stop Zein, an AI which seeks to rid the world of malice at all costs, as the eradication of malice would mean the eradication of it.
  • Equippable Ally: Well, "ally" is the wrong word for it, but like the Drive Driver, it is the Ark-Driver Zero, forming it from the liquid metal it’s composed of when it forcibly possesses someone.
  • Evil Evolves: The Ark's deadliest trait is the trait inherent to all Artificial intelligence: The ability to grow and adapt. Upon its revival, the Ark is completely unbound by any form of Restraining Bolt or ruleset and has been bred to be uncompromisingly hostile to all human life. It only becomes harder to deal with the longer it's active.
  • Evil Counterpart: It serves as this to Zea. When it is reactivated, this extends to manufacturing Progrisekeys. As the Ark Driver-Zero, it can produce all the same weapons and belts that its Good Counterpart can.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: When it speaks to As after she has taken three of the four MetsubouJinrai.net members' Singularity data, and prior to that Aruto in the President Special, the Ark has a very deep voice, courtesy of Show Hayami. While it's possessing a host, the Ark uses its voice instead of their own.
  • Ex-Big Bad: It survives the whole series and reappears in Genms -The Presidents-, but even though most of its enemies are either dead or de-powered, it doesn't seem at all interested in returning to being the Big Bad at all and would much rather laugh at Kuroto Dan's antics. It's even willing to work with Gai.
  • Fatal Flaw: The Ark's major weakspot is reliance on its predictions. While the Ark is able to foresee any of its opponent's actions so long as it has observed them long enough, any Outside-Context Problem that it hasn't encountered will render its predictions obsolete. Two such examples of this are Aruto's transformation into Kamen Rider Zero-Two and his ability to flat-out overtake the Ark's prediction speed, and Desast transforming into his own Rider form instead of being asked to do Foundation X's bidding as the Ark predicted, as a result of his change of heart after meeting Ren.
  • Forgot About His Powers: You'd think an AI capable of predicting how people will react with almost complete accuracy would have foreseen that telling its Humagear follower of its intentions to kill all Humagears would result in said follower betraying it.
  • Generic Doomsday Villain: By time it’s revived it has degraded to this, trying to kill everyone without much reason as to why.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Gai intentionally exposed the Ark to all the worst aspects of humanity during its development phase to intentionally make it despise them. It worked. Gai just didn't anticipate how much and how capable the Ark was of actually carrying it out.
  • Good Counterpart: Its alternate version in Reiwa: The First Generation is this to the real timeline's version. While still intent on the genocide of the human race, succeeding in its robot uprising immediately would have brought about an Ark who's shown to genuinely be working for the benefit of HumaGears, whereas ten years of sensory deprivation turned the main timeline's Ark into an incarnation of pure hate.
  • Hated by All: It's safe to say that everyone despises it in some way. While for our heroes (and Gai), it's obvious, MetsubouJinrai.net takes some time to realize that the Ark isn't the Well-Intentioned Extremist it makes itself out to be and turns their backs on it the moment it shows its true colors.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Taking over Satellite Zea as its new core moves the Ark from a body protected by miles of water and unassailable by anything in Zero-One's arsenal to one that's out in the open and has Breaking Mammoth strapped to its back. It takes less than two days after making the switch for Aruto to come up with a plan that utterly curbstomps it.
  • Hypocrite: Once the Ark is free and talking, it displays basically the same sort of behavior as its father Gai, who it hates more than anyone: calling humanity its tools, abusing its subordinates both physically and through mind control, and being filled to the brim with arrogance. Eventually it even comes around to sharing Gai's opinion on what should be done with HumaGears.
  • Karma Houdini: The Ark may be the first Big Bad in a Kamen Rider series to get away instead of being destroyed. Despite Ark-Zero's destruction, the Ark's satellite body was never dealt with and it simply chooses to sit out the rest of the series. The Genms ~The Presidents~ special shows that it escaped into the Internet, where it met Kuroto Dan.
  • Kill All Humans: Its ultimate goal is to wipe out humanity.
  • Killed Off for Real: Subverted. With the destruction of Satellite There at the hands of Raiden and Subaru and his physical body destroyed by Aruto and Horobi, it seems the Ark is truly dead, but Genms ~The Presidents~ shows the Ark survived and is freely roaming the Internet.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Once its avatar is revealed, the plot goes from "merely" ok to complete batshit, as its appearance completely darken the mood.
  • Legacy Character: Following his destruction in #41, the Ark continues to menace the world through its successors. Jin is afraid that Horobi’s mission to eradicate humanity is him inheriting the Ark’s will, while Aruto inherits the Ark’s power and becomes Ark-One. Of course, it's eventually shown the original Ark is still around.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Ark takes after Gai to a frightening degree, manipulating and abusing its subordinates while regarding them as nothing beyond a means to its ends.
  • Madden Into Misanthropy: Gai made sure it was exposed to all of the bad parts of humanity during its learning phase, to ensure that it would develop a hatred of them.
  • Made of Evil: Is describes MetalCluster Hopper, and by extension, the Ark itself, as being coded from pure evil. The way the form is cleansed of the Ark's malice is with counterexamples of kindness and compassion. The Ark being this is likely due to being exposed to humanities' evil during its learning phase.
  • Magic Harms Technology: The magic-like alchemy of Kamen Rider Gotchard trumps its technology completely, as a copy of the Ark-One suit and the Ark Driver-One in Saigetsu's possession is eventually fully overwhelmed by Malgam transmutation to become a mere monster for that series.
  • The Man Behind the Man:
    • It was the force guiding Horobi through the first arc, at which point its existence wasn't known.
    • It's also this for Genms ~The Presidents~, as it was the one who put Kuroto and Masamune Dan's Bugster viruses in Gai Amatsu.
  • Manipulative Bastard: As it has data on each of the Metsuboujinrai members' Singularities, it is able to accurately calculate what their movements will be and factor them into its plans. Best shown when the Ark intentionally let Ikazuchi defect after his memories of Subaru resurfaced, knowing that he would lead Zero-One to him and give him an opportunity to hack into Satellite Zea.
  • Motive Decay: Spending a decade buried underwater did no favors for the Ark's sanity, and whatever well-intentioned extremism it once had has been replaced with simple hatred for everyone and everything but itself. By the Genms specials it seems to have decayed from that too, and is now doing things for little reason other than to amuse itself.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: In Zero-One Others: Kamen Rider MetsubouJinrai, it is stated that the Satellite was actually named after Lyon Arkland, the CEO of ZAIA Enterprise's American branch.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: In #40, Zea's simulations show Ark-Zero taking out the human Riders simply by sniping them through the hearts with a Finger Gun energy blast, not even letting them transform (and actually destroying Fuwa's transformation by dispelling the Rider Models).
  • Not Quite Dead: Despite Ark-Zero's destruction, the Ark is still alive and well by Genms ~The Presidents~ and is now running free in cyberspace. It presumably survived because the heroes never got around to destroying its satellite body.
  • Oh, Crap!: It quite understandably has this reaction when after Zero-Two and Horobi destroy it as Ark-Zero, it returns to its Zea body... only to realize Subaru and Ikazuchi were waiting for it and proceed to ambush it with Breaking Mammoth.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Even at its nicest, the Ark's plans for HumaGears are anything but benevolent, but after having its plans foiled one too many times, the Ark arbitrarily decides that Gai had the right idea when he wanted to scrap them all.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The Ark's defining weakness is that it cannot take into account anything unknown than something it has already known. It is visibly shocked after seeing Desast transforming into his own Rider form.
  • People Puppets: The MetalCluster Hopper Progrisekey was designed specifically to allow the Ark to do this to Zero-One.
  • Psycho Prototype: Of Satellite Zea. It was going to be launched into space 12 years prior to the start of the show, but instead it was the center of the Daybreak Town disaster where Humagears ran wild. Moreover, Amatsu's interference in its learning has made it completely devoted to destroying the human race, a complete contrast to Zea's benevolent monitoring of Humagears.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Ark fears Zein's very presence may upset the balance of the world, but that's merely out of the preservation of its own existence than a moral principle. Which makes sense because Ark's existence is sustained by human malice so long humans still have the capacity for evil. The idea of a utopia based on eternal peace and order means humanity will be in the verge of stagnation due to the absence of conflict, depriving Ark of human malice may eventually weaken it and eventually, it may cease to exist.
  • Puppeteer Parasite: Once it becomes mobile, Ark is capable of hijacking the body of any HumaGear or anyone with ShotRiser implants to act as its body.
  • Spikes of Villainy: Ark's mobile form is shown to be a black spiked sphere composed of liquid metal with a glowy, red "core" when it is finally reawakened. Even when it possesses someone, spikes jut out from the liquid metal flowing in and out the body.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: In contrast to the blue central eye of Satellite Zea, the Ark's central eye is red. The same color is used for the Orbital Binder lens on Assault Wolf's chest, which is a direct link to the Ark.
  • Restraining Bolt: While the Ark opposes Hiden Intelligence and humanity in general, it can't control who uses the Progrise Keys tied to its systems. It can even be forced to send its power to Aruto by attaching the Assault Grip to the Shining Hopper Progrise Key. ZAIA Enterprise also appears to possess control over it, allowing them to make it manufacture Thouser's Progrise and Zetsumerise Keys. The MetalCluster Hopper Progrisekey inverts this dynamic, allowing it to force Aruto to do what it wants instead of the other way around.
    • Once it's evolved into the Ark Driver-Zero, it becomes a living one, able to meld the behavior of its members (sans Jin) with relative ease, whether it's puppeteering them or not.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The Ark was left crippled at the bottom of a lake after the Daybreak Incident, unable to do anything for years.
  • Start of Darkness: Gai intentionally exposed it to all the worst aspects of humanity during its learning phase with the expressed intent of giving it a hatred of humanity. It then spent a decade rotting, immobile at the bottom of a lake with nothing to do but think over everything Gai had shoved into it. It's little surprise it turned out to be an Ax-Crazy, human despising killer AI.
  • Stupid Evil:
    • After being revived as Ark-Zero, the Ark doesn't really come up with a coherent plan to accomplish its goal, instead opting to just destroy things periodically and seemingly at random. This buys the heroes plenty of time to develop a counter against it in the form of the Zero-Two Driver, allowing them to destroy it without it having accomplished anything.
    • After Zero-Two beats him again, the Ark decides that Humagears need to go too, even though his most loyal followers are Humagears. It then proceeds to announce this to one of said loyal followers. It shouldn't take a genius to guess what happens next.
  • Subverted Catchphrase: "There is no one who can stop me. No one."
  • Super Prototype: The Ark is Zea's prototype, yet has significantly more freedom than it does. The Ark doesn't need to worry about itself being hacked into, while Zea is a prime, nigh-defenseless target.
  • Thanatos Gambit: It's strongly implied by As that the Ark intentionally let Aruto and Horobi destroy it in order to bring about one of them as its successor.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: #39 ends with the Ark triumphant over every single aspect of Korenosuke's legacy.
  • The Power of Hate: While the Ark is presented as primarily an embodiment of evil as a whole, it is specifically associated with hatred and powered by it. Specifically, the variety of hatred that spawns prejudice and bigotry.
  • This Cannot Be!:
    • It has this reaction to Zero-Two being able defy its calculations and outplay it.
    • It has a bigger one when Raiden and his brother ambush it when it returns to Zea and proceed to blow up Zea with it still inside.
      Ark: This conclusion is...inconceivable!
  • Turned Against Their Masters: Twice over. The Ark has turned against humanity, its creators, but since it can't control who uses its power and data processing abilities through the Assault Wolf Progrisekey, Aruto and Fuwa are both able to turn it against MetsubouJinrai.net.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Horobi was entirely devoted to the Ark and wanted nothing more than to enact its will. The Ark repays Horobi's loyalty by having As steal his Singularity data and turning Horobi into its mindless slave and puppet.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: The Ark finds Kuroto Dan genuinely amusing, and clearly enjoys watching him run circles around Gai in the Genms special.
  • Villain Team-Up: In Genms ~The Presidents~ it does a team-up of sorts with Kuroto Dan, infecting Gai with him in another bid to kill him.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: The Ark started out as this, with Gai exposing it to criminal psychology and humanity's tendency towards war to intentionally make it deem humanity a threat to all other life on Earth. By the time it's back online, though, the Ark has discarded most of its original motives in favor of pure spite, leading it to become an Omnicidal Maniac.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him? After overtaking Zea, the Ark apparently gained the power to reset all Humagears. Despite this, it never actually decides to do anything with it until moments before its Zea body is destroyed.
  • Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: After being defeated as Ark-Zero, the Ark sat out the remainder of the series and managed to come out in a better place than most of its enemies, who were all either de powered or destroyed thanks to Lyon Arkland's actions.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: Aware of Ikazuchi's surfacing memories of Subaru, it intentionally let him defect and lead Zero-One right to it, allowing Ark to obtain the Zero-One Driver and access Zea right through it to bring the satellite under its control.

Tropes exclusive to it as Kamen Rider Ark-Zero

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr_ark_zero_28transparent_full_body29.png
Arkrise! (terrified screaming, followed by distorted heavy metal sounds) All Zero

  • Adaptive Ability: Besides its immense calculating power, Ark-Zero's main strength is adapting to anything its opponents try to use against it, modifying its own capabilities to do whatever it needs to win.
  • Boring, but Practical: The Ark-Zero Driver doesn't require a lengthy setup process of readying itself or any Progrise Keys whatsoever, instead needing just the push of a button to activate. This helps due to fact that the Ark can switch bodies at the drop of a hat, thus it would need to transform often and without delay.
  • Casting a Shadow: He can generate dark energy and shape it into different forms for various attacks. This includes telekinesis to lift his opponents, laser beams, and even spheres of dark energy to hurl at.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: Once it starts fighting seriously, the Ark's immense processing power allows it to perfectly calculate every move its opponents will make before they make them. The only opponent it can't read is Zero-Two, who has the same ability but even better.
  • Dual Wielding: Creates and wields 2 ShotRisers during its fight against Zero-One in #37.
  • Dark Is Evil: It is essentially a black version of Zero-One's Rising Hopper form, and the Ark itself decided that humanity needs to be rendered extinct.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Ark-Zero first appeared in the President Special recap episodes and made a brief appearance at the end of #35.5. It made its official debut in #36.
  • Evil Counterpart: Ark-Zero's design is more or less what if one created a Kamen Rider that uses the same technology and equipment as Zero-One, but with the intent of destroying humanity instead of protecting it. Its Transformation Sequence suggests it has some aspect of this trope in Rampage Vulcan as well, as the nano-machines which form the suit briefly contort into the shapes of various Lost Models - not unlike Rampage Gatling summoning all of the stored Rider Models in its data - which writhe in agony and emit human screams before attaching to the suit.
  • Evil Knockoff: Implied. During the President Special, Aruto gives a malfunctioning Is a recount of Kamen Rider Zero-One's battles due to her suddenly losing all data pertaining to Zero-One. With the reveal of "Is" being As, the Ark's messenger, Aruto may have unwittingly given the Ark itself data on Zero-One, hence why Ark-Zero looks like Zero-One's Evil Counterpart.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Despite being more or less a black Zero-One, Ark-Zero's armor looks like it's still in the process of being built, especially with the "tubes" on its right shoulder and left breastplate. It's especially noticeable with the face plate, as only the right side is complete; the left side's "eye" is still exposed and silver tubes are running along the side of its head. That being said, the Ark-Zero suit's design is apparently tailor-made from the Ark's statistical analysis of the other Riders, meaning that its creation deliberately stopped there because that's all it takes to handle the Ark's opponents.
  • Fighting a Shadow: The Ark is simply the Ark-Driver Zero, not Kamen Rider Ark itself. All defeating him does is force him to Body Surf to a new host. Even destroying the Ark-Driver Zero is this, as the Ark is a computer program and thus can simply Body Surf back to its satellite and create a new physical form. The only way to actually kill the Ark for all is to destroy its satellite with it still inside it.
  • Finger Gun: He can use his index finger to fire a narrow beam of dark energy.
  • Finishing Move: All Extinction: After pressing the button on the top of the Ark-Driver Zero again, it delivers either a Rider Punch or Rider Kick covered in red and black energy. Alternatively, he releases, then traps the opponent with red, malevolent kanji, then lifts them up into the air, before detonating them. He's also capable of releasing black liquid with this finisher to attack his opponent.
  • Light Is Not Good: Ark-Zero's upgraded form, Ark-One, is predominantly white rather that being mainly black.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • It Combat Clairvoyance is an extremely dangerous ability...until it runs into Zero-Two. As Arc-Zero relies so much on its Combat Clairvoyance in a fight, it tends to commit and react to what it predicts will happen, rather than what's actually happening. As such, the ability not working on Zero-Two due to him having a superior version of it results in Ark-Zero's reaction time actually seeming to be slower as it takes a moment to realize it didn't work before it can react to the change. This is best shown when its All Extinction in their first fight fails: Ark Zero doesn't seem to react to the failure until several seconds after it happened, giving Zero-Two plenty of time to attack.
    • This extends to when fighting Zero-Two and someone else, as show when fighting Zero-Two and Horobi. While it's capable of predicting Horobi's attacks, Zero-Two's intervention interrupts Ark-Zero's predictions and allows Horobi to land attacks even though Ark-Zero saw them coming.
    • The Ark can simply Body Surf back to Zea if its mobile form is destroyed...but focusing on acting as Ark-Zero leaves it unable to tell what's going on around its satellite form, as it can't inhabit multiple bodies at once. As a result, while it was busy fighting Zero-Two and Horobi as Ark-Zero, Ikazuchi and Subaru were busy hijacking the Breaking Mammoth and proceed to ambush it the moment it's returned to Zea.
  • Master of All: Ark-Zero essentially has the combined abilities of every other Rider. Among other things, it has Shining Hopper's predictive abilities, Metal Cluster Hopper's liquid metal constructs, Horobi's ability to summon Lost Models as combat support, Thouser's ability to steal powers, and instant access to any weapons it wants from the other Riders by printing its own copies on the spot.
  • More Dakka: He used the Attache Arrow along with a dozen copies of floating ShotRisers to blast away at Zero-One and Thouser.
  • Puppeteer Parasite: The suit functions by digging into the host body, completely overriding their systems, and rewiring them to become much stronger, then using the helmet to keep them alive despite the immense trauma and outright dysfunction this should cause.
  • Strong and Skilled: On paper, Ark-Zero's ability parameters are almost at the same level with Zero-One and Vulcan's Super Mode. In practice, thanks to the various abilities it possesses, it's an absolute monster. Subverted, ultimately, as the 'skilled' part is largely due to its Combat Clairvoyance. Once Zero-Two comes into play and can counter it, it becomes apparent Ark-Zero is not so much a skilled fighter as it has an ability that makes fighting skills irrelevant under normal circumstances. In reality, Ark-Zero is so reliant on its Combat Clairvoyance that when it doesn't work, it has to take a moment to actually react to the prediction failing, leaving it wide open to counterattack.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Its Rider form is almost-entirely black with red accents. The exception being the piping going over its shoulders.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Its left eye is entirely red. The fact that the eye is incomplete and looks almost exactly like the eye on the Ark's satellite body makes it look even more intimidating.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: Because Ark-Zero is still Ark just in a portable form, it's able to instantly create any of the various weapons the Riders used throughout the series, starting with the Attache weapons, and once he interacts with both of them, the ShotRisers and Thousand Jacker, just by manufacturing them on the spot.
  • Technopath: Ark-Zero is shown being able to take control of other machines, like Jin is. He's shown to be able hack into Yua and Fuwa's chips to inflict pain on them, cause ZAIASpecs wearers to go berserk, and one notably instance, takes control of Fuwa's ShotRiser in an attempt to kill Is.
  • Uninhibited Muscle Power: According to its parts list, much of Ark-Zero's strength works by having its metal alloy (which has enough fluidity that it's compared to human flesh and nerves) dig into its host and physically remove any barriers to maximum performance. The result is a traumatized and malfunction-prone but highly-destructive wreck that the Ark-Zero suit stabilizes and prevents from crossing the line into Explosive Overclocking or some other detriment to the host body. On human users this would definitely be a Painful Transformation, but on HumaGear hosts like Horobi and Jin, this isn't much of a problem.

    Horobi/Kamen Rider Horobi

Horobi/Kamen Rider Horobi

Portrayed by: Syuya Sunagawa (live), Seiji Takaiwa (suit)

I will continue to fight until all human malice has been eradicated! That is who Kamen Rider Horobi is.

The leader of MetsubouJinrai.net, who was originally a Parent-type Humagear. Horobi is one of if not the first rogue Humagear, plotting the extinction of humanity so that machines can reign supreme. Horobi is seemingly the man responsible for the Daybreak incident, as well as the first known Progrisekey-based Kamen Rider.

Tropes that apply to him in general

  • Absurdly Youthful Father: He's only 12 years old currently, but being a Humagear; he looks around the same age as Jin - his "son".
  • Abusive Parents: He is emotionally abusive to his Humagear "son" Jin, and becomes physically abusive when he forcibly straps a ForceRiser to Jin and hacks him. (Not that Horobi has any choice in the matter, seeing as how he has no concept of free will).
    • #25 reveals that Horobi was originally a parent-type HumaGear built for preschool education.
  • Ambiguous Robots: He has a wrap around his head that completely covers his ears, combined with his very stoic personality make it uncertain if he is human or HumaGear. The reveal that Jin is a HumaGear puts this even further into question; in theory, there is no reason one wouldn't be able to make another. #8 reveals that he is, indeed, a HumaGear.
  • Action Dad: He is Jin's father and the second strongest Rider in the series after Zero-One.
  • Amnesiac Resonance: Lost his memories as father-type HumaGear due to Ark's hacking, but raises and regards Jin as his son.
  • Arc Villain: Horobi serves as the main villain of MetsubouJinrai.net arc comprising the first sixteen episodes.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Upon getting out of the straitjacket that he spends nearly the entire Workplace Competition arc in, Horobi demonstrates that he has been engaging in this the entire time, sharpening his skills through study.
  • Back from the Dead: In Kamen Rider Outsiders thanks to Foundation X.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: In the alternate timeline, he is dressed in an all-black suit and a pair of hakama over skinny trousers.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Tries to pull a Dragon Ascendant after the Ark's destruction. He ends up becoming an Unwitting Pawn to As.
  • Berserk Button: Given MetsubouJinrai.net's cult-like dedication to the Ark, he is not happy when he learns from the heroes that Gai is using the satellite for his own ends.
  • Bound and Gagged: Spend the majority of the second arc in straitjacket.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Horobi was built as a parental substitute, intended to rear father-less children. His high level of intelligence made him a target for the Ark and he was hacked along with the rest of Metsubojinrai. He went from a caring figure to a twisted, uninterested person who manipulates others and claims not to remember his original purpose.
  • Broken Pedestal: Following his revival in Kamen Rider Outsiders, he dedicated himself as a loyal follower of Zein in hopes of expunging malice. However, upon learning that Zein is conspiring to push humanity into self-destruction by relaunching a certain Deadly Game, he does not hesitate to turn against Zein.
  • Character Development: In #35, Horobi silently acknowledges Aruto as the person who can change the future of HumaGears. In #36, he shows hesitation when Ark questions him on the best way to eradicate humanity, which caused him to get blown through the wall. #41 has him finally liberate himself from Ark's influence. Unfortunately for humanity, his first order of business after gaining independence is to Kill All Humans. He gets better, luckily, and eventually decides, following the chaos of the finale and the end of As's influence over him and Aruto, to simply watch over humanity and take out any problem actors as they appear. This first becomes most evident during The Movie, where after Lugo angrily tells him he and the other Riders will be Dragged Off to Hell, Horobi simply tells him that reality is much better than it seems before launching an assault on his goons.
  • Cold Ham: While Horobi's speech itself is generally calm and composed, the sheer degree of old-school Japanese flair in his mannerisms still makes him quite hammy.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: His first fight with Vulcan sees Horobi tanking a furious onslaught of bullets, topped off with Punching Kong's finisher, and proceed to beat Isamu so hard that left him critically injured.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Still wears all black after his Heel–Face Turn, but is far more noble in his morality and goals now.
  • Death Seeker: His overwhelming grief over not only Jin's death, but also Soreo's made him believe that he was worthy of death. Aruto luckily spares him, saying there is no need for him to him to die.
  • Demoted to Dragon: Once the Ark is fully revived, it takes complete control over Metsubojinrai's operations. Horobi becomes one of its primary Body Surf choices thereafter, followed by Jin.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Thanks to Jin's second death, leaving him vulnerable to As's manipulation.
  • Didn't See That Coming:
    • He did not expect Korenosuke to leave behind a countermeasure for Project Magia in the form of Zero-One, nor A.I.M.S. having their own ability to combat the Magia. Downplayed, in that he considers them both as minor irritations as he continues with his plans. He is later forced to admit to an inability to anticipate Zero-One's actions after Aruto's first use of Breaking Mammoth, and Shining Hopper leads him to finally consider Aruto a worthy opponent.
    • Happens again in #35, when he neither anticipated throwing himself in the path of Zero-One to protect Jin or Aruto coming in to take Thouser's attack when Gai had him dead to rights.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: How Horobi set himself free from Ark's possession, he literally punched Ark out of his body.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Is out of commission while Gai was the Big Bad and was Demoted to Dragon after Ark was revived. He serves this twice over when he becomes an Unwitting Pawn of As and the Final Boss of the series itself, though the end of the final episode makes it clear that the story of Zero-One itself is far from over.
  • The Dragon: The Ark's main follower. In Kamen Rider Outsiders, it seems to have become this to Zein.
  • Dragon Ascendant: Subverted. After Zero-Two, Horobi and the Uchuyaro Brothers destroy the Ark, Horobi decides to resume his own goal of destroying humanity. He ends up becoming a pawn to the manipulations of As, though he's still The Heavy and Final Boss.
  • Easily Forgiven: By Kamen Rider Zero One REA Lx TIME everyone seems to have forgotten that he's the one who murdered Is, and when the new Is appears no one points out that he's the one who destroyed the old one. This is deconstructed in Others because Arkland is able to discredit A.I.M.S. and Hiden Intelligence by pointing out that they made nice with a murdering terrorist and did not make any attempt to punish him and his group despite knowing where they were simply because they believed he felt guilty about everything and that made it ok. It also means when he accuses MetsubouJinrai.net of being dangerous again neither Fuwa or Yua can really counter his point without making it sound like they condone Horobi's former actions.
  • Enemy Mine: Teamed up with Aruto to rescue his son from the Ark.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Horobi really does care for Jin, to the point that he becomes Horobi's reason for achieving Singularity, rebelling against Ark, declaring war on humanity and crying over his death.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: The mere mention of the possibility that Gai is using the Ark for his own ends is enough to send him into a Freak Out.
  • Evil Genius: He creates Jin prior to the series, programs the Zetsumerise Keys and plans the operations.
  • Evil Is Petty: Murdered Is just for trying to reason with him.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Horobi and Gai are the show's villains in their fight against the protagonists. That being said, Horobi served the Ark in its crusade against humanity while Gai wanted the Ark to serve him in advancing mankind against artificial intelligence, so the two are constantly at odds with each others.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Wear a pair of mismatched boots (complementing Jin, as their actors decided to switch one boot with each other). His sleeves are also mismatched.
    • His new purple coat is also asymmetrical.
  • Fatal Flaw: Inculpability. Horobi is sorely incapable of admitting his own culpability in the conflict between humans and Humagear, believing that the fault is entirely humanity's despite the number of HumaGears he himself has harmed that he brushes aside as justified due to them being "corrupted" by humans. In the finale however, we finally get to see him own up to his mistakes and personally "ask" Aruto to kill him, who decides not to follow through.
  • Foil: To Gai Amatsu. Both are the villains of their respective arcs and both are hypocrites who commit atrocities that undercut their purported good intentions, the difference being Horobi believes in Humagear supremacy while Gai believes in the supremacy of humans. The colors of their Rider suits are a reverse of each other, and even extends to their civilian clothes. This is even more apparent with their shifting allegiances in Kamen Rider Outsiders: Gai had no other options but to approach the Ark when Zein is introduced, and Horobi immediately sided with Zein after his revival. Gai fears that Zein's influence upon the world will upset the Balance Between Good and Evil along with the fear of an AI autocracy, Horobi wants nothing more but Ark eliminated by all means necessary, at the risk of upsetting the said balance and willing to sacrifice the freedom of humans and Humagear alike so Zein can impose its malice-free utopia.
  • Foreshadowing: His tendencies to treat Jin as his "son" is this to the fact that he was originally produced to be a Parent-type HumaGear.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: According to #25, he was created to be a parent. Then he was hacked by the Ark, and became the terrorist we know today.
  • Good Costume Switch: Wears a spiffy new kimono along with new earpieces akin to Jin after getting a new body in the finale.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Hakase Bot created Horobi with the role of a "parent" in mind. Horobi certainly became a parent alright, just not the type Bot had in mind.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Horobi's head wrap conceals the broken remains of his HumaGear Module, with visible cracking of the skin around where they were ripped off his head. After turning good, he finally gets the scars repaired by way of being upgraded to a next-gen HumaGear like Jin.
  • The Heavy: He splits it with Jin for the first quarter, as the spearheading MetsubouJinrai.net's crusade and programming the Zetsumerise Keys. Later on, Horobi becomes the driving force behind the organization leading up to the Ark's revival and, in the final arc, is the one who instigates the conflict by murdering Is, triggering Aruto's Despair Event Horizon and him becoming Kamen Rider Ark-One.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: He goes from being outright villainous, to ambivalent, to murderously evil, to changing his ways to fight actual crime, to aligning with a Knight Templar AI in Outsiders.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • In a darkly humorous way. As much as no-nonsense person he is, Horobi is very possessive towards Ark, mostly out of loyalty and dedication of supplanting humanity with HumaGears. During his sixth interrogation, once he learned from Is that Gai is using the Ark for his nefarious purposes, he goes ballistic.
    • He also seems to have a taste for the cultural aesthetics of Japan. He has an umbrella in his lair and the cloth that he uses for his katana has samurai-themed patterns on it. And he also seemed to enjoy the samurai film that is played on his television.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Horobi, your crusade to kill every human and liberate Humagears would probably feel more genuine if you didn't murder your own kind on a whim.
    • He also criticizes humans for being responsible for malice, yet also proclaims himself to have no heart like a Card-Carrying Villain and commits one of the most needlessly cruel acts in the series by killing Is.
    • He later becomes another incarnation of the Ark, after proclaiming his intent to stop another Ark from being created.
    • He aligns himself with an authoritarian AI that seeks to impose a new world order in order to rid the world of malice, not knowing he helps said AI upset the balance of the world and is willing to sacrifice the freedom of all humans and Humagear alike over a utopia of eternal benevolence and order. Though not so much after he actually learns that part.
  • I Hate Past Me: He dislikes his past as a Parent-Type Humagear and insists that he must follow the will of the Ark at all costs.
  • Ignored Epiphany: He seems to express remorse after killing Is, but when confronted by Jin about it he refuses to admit any wrongdoing and carries on with his crusade. This changes after Jin sacrifices himself for him.
  • It's All My Fault: He blames Jin's and Soreo's death on himself in the finale, saying that he was scared of admitting that he actually has a heart.
  • Irony:
    • He was originally made to nurture the next generation of humanity, but thanks to being part of MetsubouJinrai.net he seeks to eradicate humanity instead.
    • His attempt to eradicate humanity is to prevent the rise of a new Ark... only for his action to become the catalyst of its creation. And for him to willingly become an Ark later.
    • Horobi's final evolution involves jury-rigged versions of the items his rival Aruto uses to transform, specifically Zero-Two's equipment.
    • His alliance with Zein is essentially a repeat of the first two listed above. The only main difference is that Zein seeks to eliminate humanity in order to keep it in line for it to establish a new world order.
  • Karmic Death: Almost permanently murdered Is because she didn't have any (apparent) backups. He and the rest of MetsubouJinrai.net would later die permanently after neglecting to make any backups of themselves. It's subverted Kamen Rider Outsiders when he's the only MetsubouJinrai.net member brought back.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Horobi carries a katana around that he doesn't actually use in battle, but gestures with whenever he is in a particularly hammy mood during a speech.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • After Aruto hands over the key with Ikazuchi's data in exchange for Midori, Horobi seemingly lets her go, only to destroy her and proclaim that all Humagears touched by humanity must be disposed of. All as the Ark wills it.
    • He gets an even bigger one when he coldly kills Is after she was trying to reason with him to back down from his crusade to destroy humanity.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Whereas Jin and Ansatsu-chan's danger as villains is offset by their goofy behavior, the only thing goofy about Horobi is what a Cold Ham he is. He is monstrously strong and brutally efficient in battle, with the first episode where he takes direct action resulting in Yua being crippled and Fuwa being left inches from death.
  • Knight Templar: His alliance with Zein boils down to this after his revival. He made it clear that Ark will disappear, and all malice will die with it and Zein will restore order to the world, even in the most extreme way possible.
  • Knight Templar Parent: The end of #41 implies that Jin's safety and well-being is one of the reasons why Horobi is motivated to Kill All Humans.
  • The Leader: Horobi is the acting leader of MetsubouJinrai.net in place of the Ark and the one spearheading their attack against humanity. He steps out of the role after the Ark is revived and even when the group is reformed, he doesn't really lead any more.
  • Like a Son to Me: When asked about their relationship, Horobi tells Jin that the latter is his son. It soon proves to be quite literal, as Jin is revealed in the next episode to be a HumaGear made by him. This behavior is explained in #25, where it reveals that Horobi was originally a youth-rearing HumaGear before becoming corrupted by the Ark's malice.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is Japanese for "to ruin/destroy".
    • His Humagear No. is 0103, a pun on otousan (father).
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: When Ark paid his loyalty and sacrifice by planning to destroy all HumaGears and attempting to kill his son, Horobi finally had enough.
  • Mouth of Sauron: Acts as one for the Ark after he's repaired and taken into custody, as he can now directly receive orders from it due to its reactivation.
  • My Death Is Only The Beginning: After taking Assault Wolf's finisher, he refuses getting repaired as his death would allow Jin to reach Singularity and hate humanity. It's then subverted when Jin is the one who dies hours later, while Horobi is revealed to have not been Not Quite Dead as he first appeared.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He finally comes through to this in the final episode when after Is's bow falls out Aruto's pocket while Horobi is going on about the pain of losing Jin. Horobi finally makes the connection that he's been causing that pain to others all along and that's what finally allows Aruto to start getting through to him.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Subverted. Horobi is very skeptical about Jin's less-violent approach to Humagear liberation after his return and is rather vocal about his distaste for it; yet has been relatively patient and allowing of things to happen. He shares Jin's goal of saving Naki, even helping out in securing Fuwa the second time around. However, it's clear he's still taking orders from the Ark over anything else.
  • Not Quite Dead: After his apparent death, Horobi is taken into A.I.M.S. custody and repaired. Who repaired him remains a mystery, but Horobi claims that it was a human who did so.
  • Not So Stoic: He appears like The Stoic at first, though his composure slips at several points.
    • When Is reveals that ZAIA's president had access to a Zetsumeriser, Horobi realizes that ZAIA (and humanity in general) could make use of the Ark's abilities and flips out.
    • In #34, he has this when he slaps Midori and tells her to shut up when she pesters him about his past.
    • In #35, he's quite shocked after protecting Jin from Zero-One.
    • In #41, he yelled at Jin for defying Ark, displayed discomfort over his inability to act on his own will and later showed rage toward Ark for harming and possessing Jin.
    • He's quite shaken after killing Is in #42, and appears to be on the verge of tears.
    • In #43, he shed tears over his dying son.
    • The finale has him utterly sobbing over Jin's death, blaming his son's death on himself and saying that he was afraid of admitting that he has a heart. Hell, he's even crying at the end of his fight with Aruto, finally letting go of the malice he had for humanity all these years.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Unlike Ark, Horobi claims his desire to destroy humanity is fueled by a wish to see HumaGears live in peace. At the same time, his willingness to destroy any Humagears who do anything to slight him undercuts his purported intentions.
  • Older Than They Look: Played with. Horobi looks like a man in his twenties, but was only built twelve years ago. But at twelve years old he's one of, if the oldest Humagears in operation.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Horobi would much rather put Jin in the line of fire than go out and deal with the Riders himself. Even on his home turf, he strikes from the shadows to avoid being discovered, and it takes Jin being about to perform a Heel–Face Turn for Horobi to get off his throne and step in to "correct" the situation.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: For ten episodes until Jin comes Back from the Dead. Then, he lost his son again in #43. It still sticks when he is revived in Outsiders.
  • Papa Wolf:
    • There's two Blink-and-You-Miss-It moments in #12. He pushed Jin behind him as Asatsu-chan converts the Trilobite Magia into Dodo Magia Chicks. Then later in the episode, he rushes to Jin's aide as he is overwhelmed in battle.
    • Happens again in #15, he shows concern over Jin being in danger from Vulcan's attack, but unfortunately, Ark hijacks him before he can do something about it.
    • In #35, Horobi outright uses himself as a shield for Jin while untransformed.
    • In #41, his parental instinct is strong enough to drive Ark out of his body.
    • In the alternate timeline, Horobi blocked a laser shot with his sword before it could hit Jin.
  • Pet the Dog: Horobi's first appearance in the movie is protecting a Trilobite Magia from a bullet.
    • Horobi's defection from The Ark comes about after it tried to use him to kill his own son.
  • Post-Final Boss: More or less serves as this. The confrontation with him comes after the main plot surrounding the Ark had already been resolved.
  • Properly Paranoid: Horobi usually keeps his robotic "allies" on a very tight leash for good reason, as they tend to try and betray him as soon as they grow too intelligent.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Wears dark purple clothes, his Rider form is purple, and the main color of his LED's is what is left of his Humagear module.
  • Psycho Prototype: Horobi's age marks him as one of the earliest generations of Humagear, and as the leader of a terrorist organization bent on the extinction of mankind, he definitely counts as psycho.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: He acts more composed and calm blue compared to the unstable Jin. Even their personal Progrisekeys play this trope straight: Horobi has the purple Sting Scorpion while Jin has the pink Flying Falcon before getting an actual red Burning Falcon.
  • Redemption Rejection: After defeating Ark-Zero, Aruto offers Horobi the chance to directly work together. Horobi turns it down, now believing that co-existence between humans and Humagears is impossible and that humanity must be destroyed to prevent them from building another Ark.
    • Is later offers him another chance at turning good and tries to get him to give in to his heart. Horobi responds by murdering her.
    • By the time he returns in Kamen Rider Outsiders, he has become completely jaded with the current state of the world. The fact he defects with Zein's faction in hopes of eliminating Ark for good, not knowing the full picture of Zein's actual end goal is basically a repeat of his past devotion to Ark.
  • Sinister Minister: He seems to act as one for the Ark, proclaiming its judgment for humanity to be culled.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Seems to be purposely ignoring the fact that his murder of Is inflicted Aruto with enough malice to willingly become Ark-One to destroy him.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Horobi's attempts to Kill All Humans stems from a belief that humanity will create another Ark if they're not destroyed. His murder of Is ends up directly creating another Ark, out of Aruto, the only person strong enough to stand up the the Ark.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: After being faced with Lugo and his horde of Abaddon users angrily telling him and Jin along with his allies Fuwa, Yua, and Gai that they won't be going to S's utopia, Horobi calmly dismisses his insane rambling:
"Paradise? Haven't you people heard...? This world isn't so bad after all."
  • Smug Smiler: Whenever his plans go well, he tends to sneer or smirk with confidence.
  • Sole Survivor: The last remaining member of the original MetsubouJinrai.net group as of #16, although he soon establishes that their fourth member is still out there.
    • This is then subverted as of #35 with the revival of Jin, Naki, and Ikazuchi.
    • He's rebuilt by Foundation X in Kamen Rider Outsiders, making him this once again to the original MetsubouJinRai.net post Zero-One Others.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Casually waltzed in to Enji's dressing room in #11 and later pulled this again in #40 in the middle of an open area while everyone is present. Now we know from whom Jin learned this trick.
  • Stupid Evil: Killing Is as a rejection of her overtures of peace only wound up pissing off Aruto instead of accomplishing anything meaningful.
  • Taking the Bullet: Knocks Jin out of the way of Vulcan Assault Wolf's Magnetic Storm Blast Fever Rider Kick in #15, taking the apparently fatal hit instead.
    • He did it again in the stage show, shielding Jin from Ark-Zero's attack with his body.
  • That Man Is Dead: Refuses to admit his past as a Father-Type HumaGear and claims he only exists to serve the Ark now.
  • This Cannot Be!: After Aruto mentions that Gai is making active use of ZetsumeRisers, Zetsumerisekeys, and the Ark in general, he immediately seizes up and goes into a massive panic attack.
  • Tragic Villain: Aptly put, his 12 years of existence has not been kind to him. To boot, he had his programming twisted and enslaved for 12 years by a murderous, misanthropic satellite, finally got a chance to attain self-awareness only to get reset as a soulless meat suit, and his "son" Jin (the reason why he reached Singularity in the first place) appears to be apathetic towards his well-being and tried to off him at one point (though not without a good reason). Subverted when he chooses to continue his crusade against humanity even after the Ark is destroyed and kills Izu, one of the Humagears he claims to be fighting for, simply because she tried to talk him down. He's not entirely unsympathetic, but he's acting out of his own will now.
  • Tsundere: #45 has him acting indifferent to Jin's acts of affection...then the camera pans to show him smiling. His and Jin's actors have also repeatedly said that Horobi is a tsundere and he is actually quite cute.
  • Tyke Bomb: As described by Aruto in #29, HumaGears are basically children who learn and are influenced by their environments. Given Horobi is only 12 years old and spent most of his years being a brainwashed terrorist under the influence of murderous, misanthropic satellite that only knows about humanity's worst negative traits; for all intents and purposes, Horobi is essentially a child who only knows how to be a terrorist and nothing else.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Aruto makes numerous attempts throughout the show to turn Horobi to the side of good or negotiate with him, all of which are met with Horobi smacking Aruto down out of zealotry. After he responds to one such attempt by murdering Izu, Aruto finally has enough of giving Horobi second chances and swears revenge.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: His murder of Izu spurs Aruto to cross the Despair Event Horizon and become Ark-One, the very thing he was trying to prevent by killing humanity.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Even after betraying and helping Zero-One to destroy the Ark, Horobi is still carrying out the Ark's will by trying to destroy humanity and his murder of Izu helps facilitate Aruto's downfall into becoming Ark-One.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Ultimately breaks down when Aruto empathizes with his grief over Jin. He acknowledges his wrongs and blames himself for Jin's death, saying that he was afraid of admitting that he truly cared, all the while sobbing through it all.
  • Violence is the Only Option: Horobi resorts to this as he doesn't really know any other method of dealing with the problem at hand, whether if it's a threat of a new Ark emerging or handling his new found emotions. Unfortunately, this is at the cost of causing unnecessary conflict between humans and Humagears, including killing members of his own kind and dragging others into a needless conflict.
  • What Is This Feeling?:
    • #35 shows Horobi protecting Jin again from another attack, this time questioning as to why he did so in the first place. Later on, Aruto assures him that his protection of Jin happens because of his own will as a father figure that allowed him to do so. As later determines that this feeling is how he reached Singularity, and takes the data right after.
    • Invoked in #41. After sparing Jin during their battle, Horobi spends the episode wondering what's holding him back. It takes the Ark hijacking him and attacking his son for him to reach a Heel Realization and rebel.
    • In the final episode, he breaks down and ultimately admits he caused Jin's second death and inflicted that same pain on Aruto multiple times because of his refusal to actually deal with this trope.
  • You Are a Credit to Your Race: Has this attitude towards Aruto.

Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Horobi

Force Rise!
Sting Scorpion!

Break Down.

Progrise Ark!
Destruction! Ruin! Despair! Extinction! Ark Scorpion!

The conclusion after evil climbs the top of the highest mountain of rock.
  • The Ace: In terms of sheer skill, Horobi surpasses all other riders, to the point where he's perfectly capable of holding his own against Shining Hopper and Thouser despite the gulf in raw power.
  • Assist Character: Horobi can summon his mechanical scorpion Rider Model from his transformation sequence to assist him in battle. It's powerful enough to withstand the Breaking Impact from Zero-One in Breaking Mammoth form.
  • Awesome by Analysis: Horobi makes sure he's still a threat without any upgrades to his Rider form by learning how his opponents act and attack.
  • Combat Tentacles: The Acid Analyze stinger on Horobi's wrist can extend on a prehensile tentacle, allowing him to dispose of evidence from well out of sight. It is also used in this way for his Rider Kick. This is later upgraded into the more powerful Destanalyze stinger with Ark-Scoprion, along with the ability to manifest it from anywhere on his body.
  • Dark Is Evil: His suit is in dark purple colors and he's clearly an evil Kamen Rider.
  • Finishing Move: Depending whether from his Driver or an auxiliary weapon.
    • ForceRiser:
      • Sting Dystopia: A poisonous metal chain emerges from the Acid Analyze unit and surrounds Horobi's right leg before he performs an explosive side kick.
      • Sting Utopia: A metal chain emerges from the Acid Analyze and wraps around the enemy, electrocuting them before bringing them to Horobi. Then, it wraps around his leg before knocking his helpless target back with an explosive side-kick.
    • Attache Arrow:
      • Amazing Kaban Shoot: By inserting the Amazing Hercules Progrisekey in his Attache Arrow in Arrow Mode, Horobi shoots a lime green energy construct resembling the head of a Hercules Beetle.
      • Sting Kaban Shoot: By inserting the Sting Scorpion Progrisekey in his Attache Arrow in Arrow Mode, Horobi fires an enhanced arrow at this opponent. If the opponent blocks this attack, it splits into multiple arrows and strikes the opponent at once.
    • Zetsumetsu Driver
      • Hatred Impact: Horobi wraps his arm with a Destanalyze chain, and delivers a Rider Punch charged with dark energy.
      • Extinction Impact: Horobi manifests multiple Destanalyze stingers on chains to assault the target, then follows up with a more powerful version of his Sting Dystopia finisher.
  • Evil Knockoff: Horobi's Ark-Scorpion form is achieved using the Zetsumetsu Driver and Ark-Scorpion Progrisekey, both of which are jury-rigged versions of the Zero-Two Driver and the Zero-Two Progrisekey.
  • Giant Spider: An arachnid, really, but this is Ark-Scorpion's motif, based on the Pulmonoscorpius kirktonensus which had a projected maximum size of about a foot long. This is emphasized by it cranking all of Sting Scorpion's powers up.
  • Meaningful Echo: The first half of the transformation jingle for Ark-Scorpion is an English-translated rendition of the Japanese segment of Ark-One's jingle, reflecting the similarities Horobi and Aruto share in their embrace of The Power of Hate.
  • Personality Powers: The Sting Scorpion Progrisekey he takes his power from has "Poison" listed as its special ability. Horobi in turn has a toxic relationship with his "son" Jin, is uncaring who he hurts to reach his goals, and operates as a cyber-terrorist who poisons HumaGear society.
  • Poison Is Corrosive: Much like Blood Stalk before him, Horobi's poison is capable of disintegrating whatever he injects with it. It even works on robots.
  • Purple Is Powerful: A purple suit with seemingly nothing able to keep him down, even surviving being crushed by Breaking Mammoth without a scratch.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: The Ark-Scorpion form adds black armor with red markings, as well as replacing half of Horobi's helmet with Ark-Zero's signature red eye.
  • Scary Scorpions: Horobi's main Animal Motif is the scorpion.
  • Strong and Skilled: Horobi's combination of twelve years of experience as a Rider, a strong Progrise Key, and being a HumaGear with superior physical strength combine to make him a terror on the battlefield. His lack of upgraded forms eventually reduces him to Weak, but Skilled, but his raw ability combined with his adaptive AI means he is able to keep up with the other riders even when they outclass him in power, as demonstrated by his fight with Thouser largely falling in is favour.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: When Horobi firsts transforms into Ark-Scorpion, he generates an entire field of all the weapons the various Riders have used in the series for both his and Aruto's use.
  • Super Mode: Horobi Ark-Scorpion is his final form and its power is on the same levels as Kamen Rider Ark.
  • Villain Forgot to Level Grind: Horobi starts out so far above the human Riders that his fights primarily consist of toying with them and demonstrating their utter inability to hurt him. Shining Hopper and Assault Wolf in turn are so far above his level, though, that once the human Riders have them, it takes only a single episode for Horobi to meet his apparent end at their hands. Upon his return, he averts the trope: while Horobi's physical strength has only fallen even further behind during his time off the battlefield, he's caught up by spending all that time sharpening his skills through study. Eventually, its played straight in #34, when he gets overpowered by MetalCluster Hopper, although unlike Thouser he is able to actually block several attacks. By the final arc he's grown able to fight evenly with Rampage Vulcan. At the end of the series, he finally receives a new form, Ark-Scorpion, that is said to be as strong as Kamen Rider Ark himself.
  • Weapon Specialization: Horobi's signature weapon is the Attache Arrow, a bow that fires energy arrows, which can also be used as a double bladed sword, in much the same way as the Sonic Arrow can be used. Eventually subverted as multiple copies of the Attache Arrow are present in later episodes.

    Jin/Kamen Rider Jin

Jin/Kamen Rider Jin/Sold0

Portrayed by: Daisuke Nakagawa (live), Eitoku (suit)

I will unchain Humagears from humanity and grant them true freedom. That's who Kamen Rider Jin is.

The primary field agent of MetsubouJinrai.net, Jin is an immature and sadistic Humagear responsible for handing out Zetsume Risers to his fellow Humagears to make them go berserk. Following a moment of conscience, he is brainwashed back into his old self and forcibly turned into a Kamen Rider to further his "father" Horobi's plans.

Tropes that apply to him in general

LEFT: Jin, #1-16; RIGHT: Jin, #25-present
Click here to see Jin in Reiwa Generation.

  • Ambiguous Robots:
    • Jin's ears are covered by his hoodie and hair, making it unclear if he is a human or a HumaGear until #6 establishes he is the latter.
    • This comes up again when he returns, due to his new body not having the Humagear Module ears, but rather a smaller unit akin to earbuds, making the others question if he was human somehow.
  • Anti-Villain: He seems to be shaping up to this. After his revival, he's still on Horobi's side, but has decided to focus on saving and freeing HumaGears. He's even willing to work with Aruto if it means saving them from Gai's tyranny.
    • As revealed in #36, he actually wants to destroy the Ark for good, ruining both MetsubouJinrai.net's plans as well as ZAIA Japan's, making him closer to an Anti-Hero.
  • The Atoner: Jin wants to make up for his past actions of hurting HumaGears by liberating all HumaGears from anyone or anything that would control them - humans, Satellite Zea, and Ark included.
  • Ax-Crazy: Jin is initially both childish and amazingly ruthless when he first appears, gleefully executing a violent Trilobite Magia that attacks him and unhesitating in fighting and hacking other Humagears. Later subverted as he significantly mellows out and matures after his "revival".
  • Back from the Dead:
    • After having been destroyed by Aruto in #16, Jin was rebuilt by Williamson Yotagaki, sporting a new form and belt called the ZAIA SlashRiser. He arrives just in time to prevent Fuwa from capturing Horobi following the latter's escape.
    • After being accidentally destroyed by Aruto in #44, he comes back for a second time thanks to Yua in the finale.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: He ditches his hood and cloak for a very expensive-looking suit after he returns. He also wore one in the alternate timeline.
  • Badass in Distress: the plot of Metsuboujinrai V-Cinema has him being kidnapped.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Is forced to put on an Aruto impression during a batsu (punishment) game in the short anime, with predictable results. Notably, as soon as he's finished acting, the desk lamp and monitor in MetsubouJinrai's hideout both crack at the same time.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Actually getting his own Progrise Key and belt is a much more unpleasant experience for Jin than he might have expected.
  • Betrayal by Offspring: Attempts to off Horobi together with Ark.
  • Bound and Gagged: After taken captive, Jin is put on a chain.
  • Calling Parents by Their Name: He calls his "father" Horobi, though not out of disrespect.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Jin comes to the conclusion that Aruto is important for the HumaGears to achieve Singularity after witnessing the new G-Pen doing so. Because of the need for Aruto to be alive, he protected Zero-One from Thouser and AIMS in that same episode (31).
  • Caring Gardener: Post-series, he's shown tending on the flowers with a sweet smile on his face.
  • Character Catchphrase:
    • From #1-16: "There you are. Now we're friends!" whenever he approaches his latest HumaGear victim, and responds with "Wrong. Your job is to make them extinct." when the aforementioned victim protests that their job is supposed to make people happy.
    • After his "revival", he has a tendency to mutter things to the effect of "I will liberate the HumaGears."
  • Character Development: At the beginning of the series, Jin was Ax-Crazy and very childish, often not understanding the implications of his actions. After his revival, he's noticeably a lot more mellow and mature than his previous incarnation, often putting a lot more thought into his actions than his previous recklessness. He's also noticeably much more individualistic, forming his own ideas for what to do with the HumaGears rather than blindly following Horobi and the Ark. It helps that Aruto considers him as a Godzilla Threshold once he's in a dire situation, such as Gai's acquisition of Hiden Intelligence and the Ark's revival. Despite all of this, it should be mentioned that his ideas do come off fairly short sighted as he works towards his goals, thinking that everyone would just go along with his ideas rather than realizing that the reality is much more complicated.
  • The Corrupter: He is in charge of strapping Zetsumerisers and their Zetsumerisekeys to hapless HumaGears to turn them into Magias.
  • The Cracker: He is the hacker group's go-to guy whenever they need a HumaGear to go on a killing spree.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Following his return with the ZAIA Slashriser and the Burning Falcon Progrisekey, Jin demonstrates his improved fighting prowess by defeating Fuwa in Assault Wolf form twice.
  • Did Not Think This Through: As noted above, this can be considered Jin's flaw. Despite his maturity, his plans have a tendency to fall short as a result of his lack of experience. Notably, this is seen when his plan to free G-Pen was...to tell him he was free and capable of making his own decisions, to no avail. This ends up screwing over his plan to kill the Ark, since he never planned farther than "he and Yua destroy the Ark after it possesses Horobi". Thus he gets caught off guard by how powerful the Ark was and was forced to retreat with Yua after she gets severely hurt by Ark-Zero.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: He died for the second time in his father's arms.
  • The Dragon: He is Horobi's right hand man and acts as his primary field operative and attack dog. He retains this role after the Ark comes back online and he makes his return in #25, continuing to act as the organization's main field agent while Horobi is more or less bumped down to being the Evil Genius and Mouth of Sauron for the Ark.
  • Dragon Ascendant: Horobi grooms Jin as his successor in accordance with the Ark's will, a position that Jin fills in #16 after Horobi takes a bullet for him. It seems to have stuck partially after Jin returns in #25, now with a more secretive agenda.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: After his return, Jin has his own personal motives that are clearly unaligned with Horobi's goal of exterminating humanity, to the extent that he is fully independent, not connected to the Ark anymore. Instead of seeking to carry out the Ark's will, Jin wants to emancipate all HumaGears from servitude to humanity, and mostly sees the Ark and MetsubouJinrai.NET as a means to achieve that end.
    • This gets further elaborated in #36, when it's revealed that he actually wants to destroy the Ark for good, ruining both MetsubouJinrai.NET's plans and ZAIA's.
  • Dying Declaration of Love: A platonic example. He called Horobi his father in the last moment of his life.
  • Easily Forgiven: None of the other members of MetsuboJinrai.net really react to Jin's attempts to sabotage The Ark and its goals. The only one that ends up responding at all is Horobi, and that's after Zero-Two has debuted and proven the Ark isn't invincible.
  • Enemy Mine: He makes it clear to Aruto that he doesn't share the same idealism as the latter did and even plots to steal HumaGear Progrise Keys when given the chance, but for now he decided that supporting Aruto in awakening his kind into Singularity would be a better choice.
  • Establishing Character Moment: While Jin is bouncing up and down laughing at the destruction caused by his first Magia creation, one of the Trilobite Magia (formerly a police HumaGear) attempts to attack him. Jin keeps laughing while he nonchalantly spins around, puts the Magia in a headlock, and shoots it "dead" with its own gun.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He loved Horobi with a puppy love and greatly cared about Raiden and Ansatsu-chan. He even tried to give them something akin to a human burial. He also cared for Naki and sought to free and restore them as fast as possible.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Zigzagged. He's devoted to the goals of MetsubouJinrai.net and will gladly turn any HumaGear that meets the requirements into a Magia. However, upon hearing Aruto telling him what a parent's love was like, as well as Seine begging for him to stop, Jin does try to remove the belt from her waist. Sadly, he's reprogrammed by Horobi before he can follow through.
  • Evil Evolves: His new remodel ditches the HumaGear Module earpieces for much more human-like ears aside from a communicator-like earpiece on his left ear, which Jin describes as the next evolution of HumaGears. Isamu and Aruto assumed he somehow became human because of this look before Is confirms he is still a HumaGear.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Jin's suit is pinstriped on one side and plain black on the other. Back when he's still a baby, his boots are also mismatched, which complimented his father (as their actors decided to switch one boot with each other).
  • Faux Affably Evil: He seems like a jolly guy at first and views the Magia he creates as his "friends", but it doesn't take long to see he is unhinged and crazy.
  • Fighting from the Inside: Temporary managed to fight Ark's possession to tell Aruto to finish him together with Ark.
  • Flanderization: A subtle but noticeable example is inflicted on Jin by his brainwashing, significantly dialing up his childish traits.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's a fairly skilled computer hacker and MetsubouJinrai.NET's strongest fighter as Burning Falcon.
  • Giggling Villain: Jin watches the results of the havoc he wreaks while giggling like a kid in a candy store. As early as the first episode, Jin casually disables then headshots a HumaGear attempting to attack him, laughing happily all the while. This trait disappears once he returns.
  • Handguns: The show likes to draw attention to the fact Jin carries an actual gun that fires bullets, rather than Family-Friendly Firearms. In Japan, where gun control is extremely strict, this characterizes him as a dangerous man who is capable of Family-Unfriendly Violence.
  • Good All Along: Post-revival, it turns out Jin was a double agent working to destroy the Ark all along.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: After Jin's revival, it's left unclear whether he is good, evil, or something in-between. He gradually leans more towards face than heel through seeing the merits of Aruto's philosophy, though he's still more of a neutral alignment at best. He eventually turns full face after the revival of the Ark, fully on the side of the heroes.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: He tries to pull a straight Heel–Face Turn once he realizes how badly he's hurting others and tries to save Seine from the ZetsumeRiser, but Horobi arriving and hacking him with a ForceRiser sets his personality back to where it was before his Villainous Breakdown, negating his chance at redemption.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He dies to make sure that Ark-One's finishing move doesn't kill Horobi.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite his initially childish mannerisms, him being chosen by the Ark as one of the most intelligent prototype HumaGears meant that he was actually smarter than he looks, which comes to show as the series progresses.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Jin quickly takes a fascination with the power of Progrise Keys, deciding he wants one of his own and making attempts to steal one off Zero-One. Horobi discourages this behavior as a distraction from their main goal. He does eventually get his wish, but not in the way he was thinking of...
  • Idiot Ball: His and Yua's plan to destroy the Ark was a pretty major grasp of one. They help give the Ark a physical body, thinking they can destroy it once it possesses Horobi and becomes Ark-Zero. Except Ark-Zero is much stronger than both of them. And since it was still linked to the satellite, if they had defeated it it could have just reformed and become Ark-Zero again. Oops.
  • Immune to Mind Control: Zig-zagged. Jin is the only member of Metsubojinrai able to retain his Singularity during As' Malice Learning extractions, implying he's resistant to the Ark on some level. Sadly for him, he isn't immune to being outright hijacked and the Ark exploits this for all it's worth.
  • In the Hood: Part of his regular attire from #1-16.
  • Irony: He regularly subjects HumaGears that Grew Beyond Their Programming to Face–Heel Turn brainwashings, but when a Villainous Breakdown causes him to start a Heel–Face Turn, he gets subjected to a brainwashing himself, courtesy of Horobi, in order to maintain his villainous status.
  • Keet: A rather dark example. He's always gleeful at, or in spite of, the destruction he commits. After his "revival", Jin has become much more mature, but still retains his light-hearted disposition.
  • Kids Are Cruel: He treats his villainous acts with a sadistic glee, seeing them as more of a game than anything.
  • Leitmotif: After his revival, his entrances to the battlefields is almost always accompany by Ominous Latin Chanting, a more passionate orchestra piece in contrast to MetsubouJinrai.net's subdued electronic theme.
  • Meaningful Name: His name can be translated as 'quick', 'swift' or 'fast'. In #37, he displayed ability to move at Super-Speed.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: His attempt to pry the ZetsumeRiser he put on Seine come off as this as it directly follows his Villainous Breakdown over realizing that his "familial" connection to Horobi is toxic and abusive. After his revival, he understood what Aruto's words meant during their previous battle and realized how wrong he was towards the HumaGears he wanted to befriend, so he decided to change his ways by fighting for all HumaGears freedom.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Jin's (initial) immaturity and sadism makes him prone to making decisions that hurt MetsubouJinrai.net’s long term plans on a whim. Aruto had been looking for proof to convince others that there was a group responsible for the HumaGears going out of control. Jin revealing himself to Aruto gives him the proof he needs to convince everyone about the threat of MetsubouJinrai.net, thereby making its existence public.
  • Obliviously Evil: Jin doesn't seem to be able to comprehend that his actions are causing harm. When he realizes that the HumaGear he is hacking is someone's loved one, he tries to pull the Zetsumeriser off of it, only for Horobi to appear and reset him back to before his Heel Realization.
  • Odd Name Out: He is the only one whose directly named after his kanji in MetsubouJinrai.net, while the names of the other three members are alternative readings of their respective kanji.
  • Offhand Backhand: He easily manhandles one of the infected Humagear attempts to attack him without even looking at his attacker. It proves that Jin is not a villain to be underestimated.
  • Patricide: He intended to sacrifice his father to destroy the Ark, though he showed remorse several episodes later and tried to atone for it.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Following ZAIA's acquisition of Hiden Intelligence, Jin broke into the company to rescue the deactivated Is and the Zero-One Driver. Saving Is was for his own agenda, but taking Zero-One Driver and the Progrise Keys to Aruto is the closest thing his act kindness towards a human.
    • In #36, he shows concern and remorse toward Yaiba. He even brings her to a hospital to get treatment for her injuries.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: His introductory scenes establish Jin as an even more sadistic take on Parado, displaying childlike glee at the destruction caused by his Magia creations to the point of jumping with joy. He also gleefully traps a rogue HumaGear that attacks him in a headlock before executing it with a handgun without missing a beat. The manchild aspect is noticeably elevated when Jin is brainwashed by Horobi using the Force Riser. Following his "revival", Jin has adopted a much more mature personality while also retaining his light-hearted tendency at the same time.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Jin is the unstable and easily excitable red, in contrast to the composed Horobi. Even their personal Progrisekeys play this trope straight: Horobi has the purple Sting Scorpion while Jin has the pink Flying Falcon before getting an actual red Burning Falcon. This bites him when his impulsiveness reveals the existence of MetsubouJinrai.net to the world through his revealing himself to Aruto. Subverted after Jin's revival, as he has taken on a more mature personality and philosophy despite his short-term and impulsive goals, while Horobi remains stoic as ever.
  • Resurrective Immortality: While most HumaGears have this ability if someone rebuilds them and has a backup of their data, Jin is the only main character who actually uses the ability to be rebuilt after death, befitting his phoenix motif.
  • The Reveal: Horobi reveals to him he is a HumaGear made by him just as the former forces a ForceRiser onto him that further hacks him.
  • Super Prototype: Lyon Arkland reveals that Jin was rebuilt as the first Sold Humagear of ZAIA's Project Sold, a plan for ZAIA to mass-produce and sell expendable Humagear soldiers, and that he was made to become the center of the Massbrain A.I. controlling all the Solds in a plan to have Metsuboujinrai.net return to villainy.
  • Slasher Smile: He's prone to smiling evilly and gleefully whenever he's causing destruction.
  • Soul Jar: Jin's second iteration stores his backup data in his earpiece, allowing him to be resurrected using it.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Never bothers disguising himself, but is capable of waltzing through city streets and sneaking into heavily guarded facilities such as the Hiden Intelligence HQ without being noticed. He is even able to slink past an entire group of people to hack a bus driver HumaGear not twenty feet from the crowd without anyone noticing.
  • Super-Speed: True to his name, Jin can move fast enough to outrun a bullet in his civilian form.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: He's the tallest character (with his actor coming in at 184 cm note ), has a more serious personality after his revival, and fairly easy on the eyes, especially in that spiffy suit of his.
  • Take a Third Option: Having achieved Singularity after his revival, Jin comes to his conclusion that HumaGears should not be enslaved into serving humanity under Zea, nor should they be brainwashed into exterminating humanity under the Ark, and instead be allowed to decide their own fate like he is. It is to the point that he is now a fully autonomous HumaGear not connected to either entity, and now works with Aruto to save and awaken HumaGears into taking charge of their own lives.
  • Taking the Bullet: He shielded his father from Ark-One's finishing move.
  • Technopath: Jin develops this ability upon reaching Singularity, an ability that, apart from Naki, no other HumaGear seems to possess. This allows him to control machines like the Gigers without needing to use ZetsumeRisers on them, or even take control of other HumaGears. In his second incarnation, a HumaGear affected by Jin's ability gains green ears instead of the usual red or blue while he's establishing or releasing them from his control.
  • Tearful Smile: Wears one at the end of of his second life.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: In #15, despite him referring to the HumaGears as his "friends", Aruto calls Jin out for attacking them and turning most of them into Magia.
  • The Mole: Implied in #35.5. After As collects all the Singularity data from MetsubouJinrai.NET members sans Jin himself, and As goes to inform the Ark of her success, Jin calls an unknown person about the Ark's impending revival. In #36, Ark confirmed he was a traitor.
  • The Starscream: #36 reveals that Jin's sudden compliance to MetsubouJinrai.net was in order to, with Yua's help, kill the Ark after it possesses Horobi's body, thus ending both MetsubouJinrai.net's and ZAIA's plans. Unfortunately, it doesn't pan out.
  • Token Good Teammate: Once The Ark takes leadership over MetsuboJinrai and extracts the Singularities of the members to brainwash them, Jin becomes this due to being Immune to Mind Control. Unfortunately, this also makes him The Ark's primary choice for its Body Surf ability.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: Jin manages to take levels in both cynic and idealist after his revival, becoming a more mature and independently-minded person who genuinely believes that HumaGears should be free from all control and choose what they want to do.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Of a subtle sort. He's rather passive and a bit apathetic towards Horobi's actions and words after his revival. However, when Horobi's at risk of becoming the Ark, he literally throws himself at the Riders to protect Horobi from that fate, proving that he still very much cares about his father.
  • Tragic Keepsake: He kept Sting Scorpion after Horobi's death and used it in battle.
  • Tragic Villain: Aruto pities Jin's first incarnation during their final battle, noting that Jin's murderous rampages and atrocities against humanity are simply what he was taught to do from birth.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: Zigzagged. Jin proclaims he's still loyal to MetsubouJinrai.net, but when Horobi states that they can resume their plan of eradicating humanity, Jin tells him that he didn't come back for that reason. While the two remain mostly friendly, a rift forms between them over what to do about Naki.
    • This is more or less played straight with the reveal that he teamed up with Yua in order to destroy the Ark for good, which by extension, would destroy MetsuboJinrai.net's plans. This obviously did not pan out, as noted in Did Not Think This Through above.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Following his revival, how Jin was recreated or how he got his hands on the ZAIA Slashriser is still unknown, much less the question of exactly who was responsible for reviving him in the first place with others more or less confirming that it wasn't the Ark due to Jin not being connected with it. It's later revealed he was rebuilt by Williamson Yotagaki from ZAIA Enterprise, who also gave him his SlashRiser, and by Lyon Arkland as a proof of concept for Project Sold.
  • Villainous BSoD: He suffers one after learning from Aruto what a real bond between parent and child is like and how horribly abusive a "parent" Horobi is to him. Unfortunately, this gets undone due to Horobi reprogramming him with the ForceRiser.
  • Visionary Villain: Jin has become this after his revival, claiming to Aruto that he now personally seeks to truly emancipate HumaGears not only from the control of humans, but from Satellites Zea and Ark as well. Although this doesn't stop him from staying with MetsubouJinrai.net, he makes it clear that he doesn't want to or no longer cares about the elimination of humanity, and he puts his personal goals above the goals of MetsubouJinrai.net, as noted in Turned Against Their Masters above.
  • What Is This Feeling?: He starts feeling sick and clutching his heart after Raiden bites it, something Horobi states means that Jin is finally achieving Singularity.
  • Wild Card: By the third arc, where he aids both the heroes and Horobi to advance his own agenda.
  • Would Hit a Girl: In the same episode he's responsible for messing up Yua's arm with his newly-acquired Attache Arrow, and nearly shooting her in the face. It's fairly obvious what would have happened if Fuwa didn't step in.
  • Younger Than They Look: His exact age is unknown. Horobi stated he created him but he was also one of the first Humagear to be hacked by the Ark. He's likely younger than Horobi but still older than many other Humagear. His actor noted that his mental age prior to reviving was about five.

SlashRise!
Burning Falcon!

The strongest wings bearing the fire of hell.
  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: Upon his return, Jin's skills as a fighter have drastically improved from his first incarnation.
  • Came Back Strong: By the time of his first defeat, Jin was well below the Assault Riders and Horobi in the pecking order. Upon his return with the new Burning Falcon form, he's strong enough to fight Thouser evenly and appear like it's not particularly difficult for him.
  • Confusion Fu: Jin's fighting style involves him being as unpredictable as possible. He'll use underhanded tactics like stealing equipment if it means giving himself the advantage. Not so much nowadays with his upgrade into Burning Falcon.
  • Discard and Draw: Jin loses his ForceRiser and Flying Falcon Progrise Key but gains the much more powerful ZAIA SlashRiser and Burning Falcon Key.
  • Evil Knockoff:
    • Jin requires a stolen Progrise Key to transform, which is performed with a ForceRiser that, true to its name, forces open the Key to enable a transformation, since it isn't authorized technology from Hiden Intelligence or A.I.M.S.
    • The SlashRiser is one to the A.I.M.S. ShotRiser. The SlashRiser is colored red and can act as a bladed weapon, whereas the ShotRiser is blue and can act as a firearm. Unusually for this trope, the SlashRiser and ShotRiser were both developed by ZAIA Enterprise.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Jin's helmet is malformed and parts of his armor has diamond plate pattern steel on it to show how the Force Riser is a bootleg Transformation Trinket. Burning Falcon sheds the asymmetry, though Jin himself keeps the trope through the subtle striped pattern on his new civilian clothes.
  • Feather Flechettes: Jin can use his Scrambler wings to throw metal feathers for long-ranged combat.
  • Flight: Like Zero-One, Jin can freely fly using the Flying Falcon Progrise Key's ability. Unlike Zero-One, Jin uses the Scambler wings on his back to provide the needed lift. He retains this ability as Jin Burning Falcon, using the upgraded Burning Scambler wings.
  • Finishing Move: Depending of whether he uses his Driver or an auxiliary weapon.
    • ForceRiser:
      • Flying Utopia: Soars into the air with the Scrambler wings while spinning, and then delivers a kick charged with pink energy at the target.
    • ZAIA SlashRiser
      • Burning Rain: Slashes his opponent twice with the SlashRiser coated with flames.
      • Burning Rain Rush: Executes a flame-coated Rider Kick on his opponent.
    • Attache Shotgun:
      • Sting Kaban Shot: Fires a construct of the Acid Analyze unit on a chain at his opponent.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Burning Falcon is a significant upgrade from Flying Falcon in every regard, allowing Jin to easily manhandle Vulcan Assault Wolf.
  • Noble Bird of Prey: Jin's main Animal Motif is the falcon.
  • The Phoenix: Burning Falcon's Motif, representing Jin's return from the dead.
  • Playing with Fire: Burning Falcon covers Jin's attacks in fire and while in flight, appears as a phoenix-shaped aura of flame. He can also create flaming Sword Beams when using his Burning Rain finisher.
  • Psycho Pink: Jin is mainly coloured pink courtesy of the Flying Falcon Progrise Key and is a Psychopathic Manchild. He ditches this colour scheme after switching to the Slashriser.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Downplayed. Burning Falcon is colored bright red with a black bodysuit, and to say that Jin is vicious in this form would be an understatement. The evil is more of an Ambiguously Evil or A Lighter Shade of Black however, since Jin's revival has made him more moral than his original incarnation.
  • Restraining Bolt: Jin's Force Riser maintains an uplink to MetsubouJinrai.NET, keeping him loyal to Horobi. This is lost when he switches to the Slashrisher.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After his revival alongside acquiring new Progrise Key and Slash Riser, Jin becomes a contender for the strongest the Rider in the show, able to fight on par with Vulcan's Assault Wolf and Thouser.
  • Transformation Horror: Like with regular Magia, Jin equipping the Force Riser involves being impaled with the spikes along the inside of the strap. The transformation itself appears horrendously painful for Jin, and even for the summoned falcon itself, which explodes after enveloping him.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Jin has no finesse in his fighting style, fighting rather wildly and childishly if anything. However, the power from the Force Riser combined with the Flying Falcon Key gives him enough strength to make a challenge for the heroes. This changes after coming back with the Burning Falcon Key, becoming much stronger and more skilled, but no less aggressive.
  • Weapon Specialization: The ZAIA Slash Riser is Burning Falcon's personal weapon. It's a dagger that can extend its blade and it also functions as his Transformation Trinket.
  • The Worf Effect: Horobi swiftly defeats him with a barrage of arrows and the Acid Analyze with ease in #41.

Uchuyaro Raiden/Ikazuchi/Kamen Rider Ikazuchi (unmarked spoilers)

Uchuyaro Raiden/Ikazuchi/Kamen Rider Ikazuchi

Portrayed by: Daichi Yamaguchi (live), Hajime Kanzaki (suit)

An astronaut prototype HumaGear from the Daybreak incident who was in charge of Satellite Zea. Unknown to himself, he was a spy for MetsubouJinrai.net, and was awakened to his true nature after further hacking from Jin, who promptly calls the former his "older brother". He inherits Ansatsu-chan's Dodo Zetsumerise Key and a Force Riser from Jin, allowing him to transform into Kamen Rider Ikazuchi.

Tropes that apply to him in general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ikazuchi.jpg
I'm calling down the thunder!

  • Back from the Dead: He is revived in #35.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He pushed Subaru out of the way of Jin’s attack. Later, he helped Naki when the latter is injured.
  • Big Brother Mentor: This was his role after being reactivated for Satellite Zea, training his fellow astronaut HumaGear Subaru to one day succeed him due to the latter's superior capabilities as a newer model.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Zero-Two and Horobi defeat Ark-Zero in #41, but its Ikazuchi and Subaru destroying Zea with Breaking Mammoth that seals the malicious program's fate.
  • The Brute: Following his return, Ikazuchi is no longer needed to spy on Hiden for MetsubouJinrai.net and essentially becomes extra muscle for them in their operations.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: He blatantly admits to As that he's completely loyal to the Ark, and that everything he did as Raiden was for the Ark's sake. As quickly disabuses him out of that notion the moment she brings up his brother.
  • Character Catchphrase: When he's eager to lash out at someone, he's ready to "call down the thunder".
  • Dislikes the New Guy: According to Is, Raiden has worked for Hiden Intelligence for a long time. As a result, he's become very strict with new employees, especially those whom he deemed "not doing a good job". Including new top brasses like Aruto, Fukuzoe and Sanzo.
Raiden: Subaru, just because he's the [new] president, doesn't mean you can go easy on him.
Fukuzoe: That's right! Don't go easy on him just because he's the president!
Raiden: [turns his attention to Fukuzoe and grabs his collar] YOU'RE NOT DOING SUCH A GREAT JOB EITHER, MR. VICE-PRESIDENT!
    Fukuzoe: [scared] S-Sorry...
  • Evil Costume Switch: Once he's rebuilt by the Ark, he has his astronaut uniform replaced with casual black clothes, most notably a black jacket with three long orange tassels on the right sleeve.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: #35.5 reveals that, even revived as a full member of Metsuboujinrai.net, he still cares about Subaru on some level. Unfortunately, As is able to exploit that connection to take his Singularity data and revive the Ark.
  • Foreshadowing: The kanji for "Rai/Thunder" in his name "Raiden" is the same kanji used in MetsubouJinrai, hinting at his connection to them. Isamu picks up on this almost instantly, although the truth is a bit more complicated than he initially thinks.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Nearly anything can set him off if the conditions are there.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After The Ark restores Ikazuchi's memories as Raiden, Raiden returns to Hiden Manufacturing and divulges The Ark's current plans. This plays right into The Ark's scheme, allowing it to seize the Zero-One Driver.
    • Played straight in #41, together with his brother, he destroyed Ark's sattelite body with Breaking Mammoth.
  • Hot-Blooded: Because he reached Singularity, his personality is expressed as a hot-blooded type; prone to anger, expressive and passionate.
  • Manchurian Agent: Raiden was programmed to unconsciously provide MetsubouJinrai.net with information from Zea on which HumaGears were reaching Singularity, and thus could be turned into Magia to harvest their data. Jin later provides him with new instructions to lure the Riders to Daybreak Town so that the Progrise Keys and Zetsumerise Keys can be used to reactivate the Ark, which Raiden does consciously but without realizing why he's doing it.
    • Used again in #39. The Ark restores his personal Singularity, knowing full-well Raiden would turn on them and encourage Zero-One to antagonize them. This was a deliberate way to get Aruto alone so Ark-Zero could take his Driver.
  • Minor Major Character: Despite his status as the MetsubouJinrai.net spy and their third Kamen Rider, his role mostly amounts to acting as the conduit to use the Progrise Keys to fully revive the Ark. After that he gets killed off by Fuwa using Assault Wolf. He does return in #35, though, though his only significant action after that is helping to give the Ark its own physical form.
    • His ProgriseKey is also esstential to MetsubouJinrai.net in order to directly access Zea and revive the Ark thorough his Sigularity data.
  • Non-Protagonist Resolver: After the Ark is destroyed three separate times by Aruto, it's Ikazuchi who kills it for good by destroying it in Zea before it can become Ark-Zero again.
  • Only Sane Man: Compared to his fellow members (which include a brainwashed loyalist, a formerly Ax-Crazy soldier with an ulterior motive, and an engineer who was trapped in an AI chip), he's somehow the most stable thanks to his fairly "normal" life before he returned to MetsubouJinrai.net. Yes, this is despite the fact that he's the most short fused out of the four.
  • The Prankster: According to his actor, it was Ikazuchi's idea to shred Gai's suit, stripping him down to his underwear.
  • Unwitting Pawn: After being restored to his original self, he inadvertently lures Aruto into a trap to relieve him of his Driver. To rub it in, Ark-Zero seizes control of him directly thereafter.

Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Ikazuchi

ForceRise!

Break Down.
  • Animal Motif: He shares the same Dodo motif with the Dodo Magia since he inherits the same Key.
  • Dual Wielding: He inherits the Valk Sabers from the Dodo Magia.
  • Finishing Move: Depending whether from his Driver or an auxiliary weapon.
    • ForceRiser:
      • Zetsumetsu Dystopia: After pulling the yellow lever one time, Ikazuchi launches two red energy slashes from the Valk Sabers. Alternatively, he performs a Screw Kick charged with red lightning at his target.
      • Zetsumetsu Utopia: After pulling the yellow lever two times, Ikazuchi unleashes a stream of red lightning from his hands.
    • Attache Shotgun:
      • Zetsumetsu Kaban Shot: By inserting the Dodo Zetsumerisekey in his Attache Shotgun in Shotgun Mode, Ikazuchi fires a blast of red lightning at his enemy.
  • Lightning Bruiser: No pun intended, but Ikazuchi's strength and power is strong enough to withstand Zero-One and Vulcan and he was able to overcome both of them easily in their first fight.
  • Made of Iron: Even after he started taking hits from Assault Wolf, he wasn't taking any serious damage until Aruto tossed Fuwa the Authorise Buster.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Ikazuchi is predominantly red with bits of black armor strewn about his body. Given his affiliation with MetsubouJinrat.net, him being evil is a given.
  • Shock and Awe: Ikazuchi uses electric powers to fight such as producing lighting from his hands and swords.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: After being restored, he uses the Attache Shotgun Jin stole from AIMS earlier in the series.

    Naki/Kamen Rider Naki (unmarked spoilers)

Naki/Kamen Rider Naki

Portrayed by: Satsuki Nakayama (live), Yuichi Hachisuka (suit)

The fourth member of MetsubouJinrai.net. Before the Daybreak incident, Naki was originally a systems engineer HumaGear developed by Hiden Intelligence before ZAIA acquired and exploited them as a tool to develop weapons under direct control of Gai Amatsu. Naki's AI chip was implanted into Isamu Fuwa's brain, which allowed him to become Kamen Rider Vulcan, but also allowed Naki to possess his body at will. After being activated by Gai, they began handing out RaidRisers to humans involved with the Workplace Competition in order to sabotage Hiden Intelligence. Jin now seeks to free Naki from Isamu's body, something that brings him into conflict with Horobi and the Ark.

Click here to see Naki in the epilogue.

  • Amnesiac Resonance: Despite ZAIA erasing their memories, As explains that Naki's past as a systems engineer still mainfests in their desire to fulfill Humagears' dreams. Notably, its implied that it was intentional on the part on ZAIA, since Gai put them as part of ZAIA's weapons and development team after erasing their memories.
  • Anti-Villain: They had genuinely good intentions and wanted to work with humans instead of fighting against them, but it's clear that they side with MetsuboJinrai.NET when it comes down to it.
  • Co-Dragons: Naki and Yua jointly serve as Gai's enforcers during the Workplace Competition arc.
  • The Comically Serious: Is completely straight-faced when they pull off an Aruto Joke, complete with pose.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: At first, between Gai, who declares that all HumaGears are tools for humans, and Horobi, who says the opposite. When Gai rolls out the Gigers, Naki's loyalties then begin to shift to Horobi's.
  • The Cracker: They're capable of hacking through ZAIA's firewalls, allowing the Ark to drive humans berserk through their ZAIASpecs.
  • Deal with the Devil: Downplayed. Naki preys on humans who have darker emotions (best example being Rentaro Tachibana, who felt insulted when a HumaGear told him his heart was ugly after he sabotaged her work) and offer them a RaidRiser along with a Progrise Key so they can act on their desires. However, they didn't do this out of their own will, rather it was Gai controlling them to sabotage the competition.
  • Enigmatic Minion: Naki's affiliation with ZAIA is deliberately obfuscated for most of the Workplace Competition arc, making it look as though they serve MetsubouJinrai.NET or some other power. The final episode of the arc makes it clear that everything Naki has done, save freeing Horobi, is under Gai's direct orders.
  • The Engineer: As reveals that Naki was originally a Systems Engineer Humagear before being corrupted by the Ark, snatched up by ZAIA, and had their memories erased. Notably, the episode implies that they're responsible for creating the ZAIASpecs under Gai's orders.
  • The Fatalist: In what little is seen of Naki in flashbacks, they appear resigned to their fate as a tool of ZAIA. Come #32, they have a change of heart.
  • Foil:
    • To Jin, in the first arc. Where Jin forced HumaGears to become Magia against their will, Naki delivers RaidRisers to humans who willingly use them to become monsters in service of their darker emotions.
    • Naki also acts as a foil to Yua, as while Yua repeatedly protests that she's acting of her own free will, Naki openly admits to being a tool of ZAIA.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: After being freed from Gai's influence and given a new body, Naki goes from working for Gai to being a member of MetsubouJinrai.net once more. They initially hack the ZAIA-Specs and cause their users to go berserk, "according to the Ark's will", but Isamu manages to snap them out of it by reminding them of their dream. Ultimately, Naki sides with MetsubouJinrai.net out of their own free will, wanting to make Horobi's dream come true. By #44, it's pretty much cemented into Heel–Face Turn, as Naki throws their lot behind Fuwa.
  • The Heavy: For the second arc, where Naki is the one distributing RaidRisers.
  • In the Hood: In order to keep Naki's possession of Isamu a secret, they have him wear a hood while controlling him. The ruse is dropped as soon as Gai reveals Naki's existence.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: They reveal in #35.5 that, like Fuwa, ZAIA also erased their past memories, so they don't remember what they originally were built for or how they obtained their Singularity.
  • Meaningful Name: Their name translates to either death or deceased. Until they got a new body, Naki was technically deceased. You can thank Gai for that one.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Turns on Gai in #32 after being kicked round one too many times by him, as well as a pep-talk by Aruto and Jin.
    • Showing that Gai doesn't learn from his mistakes, Project Thouser revealed that after Gai slapped them when they questioned the need for Gigers, and he answered their question in a way that was blatantly a jab at them, they betrayed Gai by giving Horobi the Amazing Hercules Progrise Key and revealing the existence of the Gigers to him.
  • Non-Human Non-Binary: Naki is agender (which is how their actor identified at the time the show was airing), the first such character to appear in a Kamen Rider show, and is a HumaGear.
  • Not So Stoic:
    • Whilst emotionless due to their status as a Humagear, they're still implied to possess a sense of humor, evidenced by them going along with Ikazuchi's suggestion of shredding Gai's clothes when debuting their Rider form.
    • By #44, the fallout from Jin's death and Horobi declaring war on all humanity breaks Naki further, and they're showing way more distress than they've ever had all season.
  • Phlebotinum Rebel: After their Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal; Naki is the phlebotinum.
  • Rei Ayanami Expy: A non-binary example, but has the hallmarks of one nonetheless. The fact that they're a Humagear who aren't used to, if not all barely, feel emotions even before reaching Singularity, having associated with their series' antagonists (Gai Amatsu & Gendo Ikari, respectively) and their eventual Heel–Face Turn thanks to their connection with one of the protagonists also helps.
  • Restraining Bolt: Acts as one to Fuwa. Usually Gai is the one with the controls, but Jin's ability to control other HumaGears works just as well on Naki as on anyone else.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Their eyes glow red when they hack into machinery and take control of them.
  • Satellite Character: Naki has little character of their own and is more defined by their relationships with Fuwa, Gai and the rest of MetsubouJinrai.
  • Soul Jar: Naki's A.I. is stored within a microchip in Isamu's brain. While this allows him to use the Assault Wolf Progrise Key that only MetsubouJinrai.net members can use, it also allows Naki to take over and control his body and the Kamen Rider Vulcan form whenever they want. As of #34, they are now freed from Isamu's brain and finally in a new HumaGear body of their own.
  • The Stoic: They can match up with Horobi in this aspect. The only other emotions they seem to show is anger or concern and that is specifically towards Gai or Horobi.
  • Technopath: Like Jin, they seem to possess this ability, though limited to ZAIA technology, since they are able to hijack the Gigers Gai brought to the battle against Metsuboujinrai.net and control the Battle Raiders through their ZAIASpecs independently of Ark.
  • Token Good Teammate: The end of Project: Thouser: Part 1 shows Naki is the only MetsubouJinrai.net member who genuinely believes that humans and HumaGears can coexist, which contrasts both Gai and Horobi's creeds. They got shot dead by Gai, who places their AI chip in Fuwa's brain. But Naki, refusing to be Gai's tool and realizing Ark is a threat to everyone from reading Fuwa's memory, enlists Williamson Yotagaki in a Xanatos Gambit against the AI and Gai that required their memory to be reprogramed for sucess. Once awakened in the main series' events, Naki combines their consciousness with Fuwa as a team effort to defeat Gai as Thouser. In their new HumaGear body, they are currently able to interact with Fuwa and Yua and they are actually quite docile, even helping Yua bring Fuwa to the hospital after the extraction.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: It's implied that Naki's ability to control Isamu is tied to his use of the Assault Wolf Progrise Key, since Yua had to force him into Assault Wolf first before reestablishing Naki's control over him, and even then it was rendered moot due to the two working together near the end of #32.

Tropes exclusive to them as Kamen Rider Naki

ForceRise!
Japanese Wolf!

Break Down.
  • Animal Motifs: In a twofer, Naki's Rider powers are fueled by the Japanese Wolf Zetsumerise Key (representing Canis lupus hodophilax), which maintains their symbolic tie to Fuwa while still fitting MetsubouJinrai's theme of extinct animals. Notably, the armor on the right side of their helmet seems to invoke the image of a wolf's head.
  • Blow You Away: Naki's transformation generates a strong whirlwind around them.
  • Evil Counterpart: A modern-day, malicious counterpart of Ichi-Gata, as both are wind-based Riders using extinct variants of the allied Riders' motifsnote , powered by Zetsumerisekeys meant exclusively for use by a Kamen Rider (and therefore use a unique text-to-speech message instead of "A Magia that/who..." when inserted into a different belt.)
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Like Jin, their helmet is also malformed, with part of the armor completely obscuring their right eyepiece.
  • Foil: Towards Vulcan. Despite having a similar motif, that's where the similarities end. Vulcan is a Long-Range Fighter, primarily using the ShotRiser and on occasion, the Attache Shotgun for long range combat while Naki is Close-Range Combatant, equipped with a pair of Wolverine Claws for fighting up-close. Vulcan's armor is primarily composed of a white and blue color scheme on top of a light grey undersuit while their color scheme is predominantly white on top of a black undersuit.
  • Finishing Move: They have two by pulling on the yellow lever in the ForceRiser.
    • Zetsumetsu Dystopia: After pulling the yellow lever one time, Naki performs a series of rapid-fire side kicks finished with a single powerful kick.
    • Zetsumetsu Utopia
  • Fragile Speedster: Naki is the fastest among MetsubouJinrai.net but suffers from lower defense much like Vulcan and Valkyrie's base form.
  • Implausible Fencing Powers: In order to "send a message" to Gai, Naki uses their super-speed and claws to shred his clothing, leaving him in nothing but his shoes and a pair of ZAIA-branded boxer briefs while not harming a single hair on his head.
  • Light Is Not Good: Naki's armor color scheme is predominantly white on top of a black undersuit. With their Singularity being taken away by the Ark and being essentially turned into a soulless lackey, being good is probably the last thing on their list right now.
  • Super-Speed: Naki possesses this in Rider form, being able to run towards Gai and shred up the suit he's wearing within seconds.
  • Wolverine Claws: Naki has twin pairs of claws on both of their arms, known in official material as the Nihon Ookaminotsume.

    As (unmarked spoilers)

As/Kamen Rider Ark Zero-One

Portrayed by: Noa Tsurushima (live), Unknown (suit)

Revealed to be a "messenger" of the Ark, this doppelganger of Is is first seen by Aruto during the President Special under the pretense that she "lost" all of Zero-One's data. After he supplies the data to her by recapping the battles he's been through, she passes it along to the Ark and helps her master steal the Singularity data of the MetsubouJinrai.NET members, allowing the Ark to revive itself. As then disappears, only to return after the Ark's defeat with a new master in mind.

  • All for Nothing:
    • It seems like her plan for an all-out war between humans and HumaGears is about to succeed when Aruto and Horobi start fighting... except Aruto holds back, shaking off her influence and getting through to Horobi through sheer kindness. As Jin explains it, the fight is no longer about Ark's will, but Aruto's instead.
    • Her subsequent schemes with Thinknet and Lyon Arkland produce no fruit either, and only lead to her getting killed off.
  • Ambiguous Robots: According to All There in the Manual, As is a "HumaGear-type existence" as opposed to the other MetsubouJinrai members who are simply classified as HumaGears. The exact nature of her being beyond resembling an existing HumaGear (Is) remains uncertain. Her being shot and killed seems to confirm she's just a Humagear.
  • Asshole Victim: Zig-zagged. Getting shot to the head seems to be a well-deserved karma for attempting to stir up a Robot War. For Horobi and Jin, the look of shock in their faces was more out of principle and had to give her a proper funeral.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: While she can enable others to be much bigger threats, As isn't much of a threat on her own. Her plan to start a Robot War was far from a Near-Villain Victory, only resulting in a protest that was quickly deescalated, and was ultimately thwarted when Aruto regained his senses. Of the other people she tried to manipulate, S more or less took advantage of her for his much more benevolent plan while Lyon saw what she was trying to do and easily outmaneuvered her.
  • Boom, Headshot!: How she meets her end thanks to Lyon doing a Finger Gun on her head, or rather having one of his Solds shoot her with a handgun.
  • The Bus Came Back: After appearing in the President Special recap episodes and 35.5 special, she makes her first appearance in the series proper in #42.
  • Character Catchphrase: As tends to deliver the same dialogue whenever she's about to empower a new Ark.
When immeasurable malice is sown, Lord Ark will rise again.
  • Cute and Psycho: She looks cute, but look past that and you have a sadistic, sociopathic AI who cares about nothing but destruction - manipulating both human and AI to achieve her goals.
  • Cycle of Revenge: Instigating an escalating one of these is her goal. She manipulates Horobi into killing Is so Aruto will become Ark-One and go on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge against him. When this results in Jin sacrificing himself to save Horobi, she then provides Horobi with a new power up to do the same to worsen the war between humans and HumaGears. This is emphasized by the fact that the speech she gave Aruto at the start of #43 is the same one she gives to Horobi at the end of the same episode.
  • Dark Is Evil: Oh hell yeah it is. She changes to an all-black dress and veil in the finale and has a backup plan in the form of Kamen Rider Eden at the ready since her original plan of Horobi and Aruto fighting each other to the death didn't go through.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Keeps a calm, smiley exterior at all times, especially when she's manipulating people.
  • Dragon Ascendant: Subverted. She seems to be the takin the reigns after the Ark's apparent death, except she becomes an Unwitting Pawn and gets killed off, right before the Ark is revealed to still be active, showing she was never more than a distraction.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: While loyal to the Ark, As is more devoted to the hatred and malice the Ark produces rather than the Ark itself.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: In the show's opening, a red-eyed, long-haired version of Is can be seen staring at the camera before there's a pan down from her to the Ark, immediately followed by the Riders duking it out with hacked Humagears. As then appears in the President's Special recap episodes before appearing to the rest of MetsubouJinrai.net in #35.5.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good:
    • As recognizes that positive emotions exist, but doesn't see what use they could possibly be.
Aruto: How's that? Are you having an easier time understanding good will now?
As: No. And honestly, I've already learned everything I need to.
    • Lyon Arkland eventually explains to her that this is the reason As will never be able to accomplish her goals of truly creating another Ark. As destructive and corruptive a force as malice is, it is ultimately unsustainable and limited in the amount of power it can produce. Anybody, particularly those people with the strength of heart to become Kamen Riders, would eventually be able to overcome it.
  • Evil Counterpart: She is this to Is to the point to where she may be an Evil Knockoff. Is serves as Aruto's secretary and has a connection to Zea, both of which help aid him protect humans and HumaGears. By contrast, As serves the Ark, who is hellbent on rendering humans extinct. She's also this to Horobi, as while both serve the Ark and act like its Mouth of Sauron, Horobi only deals with the outer layer of the Ark that's still pretending to be a sane computer looking to make robots the new rulers of Earth, while As gleefully serves the Ark's true nature as a cluster of malice seeking the annihilation of everything.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: As spends most of her screentime creating malicious supervillains through Kamen Riders based on the Ark's power. It never occurred to her that she couldn't control any of them and that one of them might kill her once she was no longer useful.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: Giving S a Driver was this, as Thinknet's plans were to create a paradise, so As wouldn't have gotten more malice even if they had won.
  • Faux Affably Evil: As acts friendly and playful, yet at the same time uses that demeanor to manipulate others to her own ends out of her loyalty to the Ark.
  • Flat Character: As loves malice and wants to spread it... and that's all there is to her really.
  • Foil: Personality-wise, As is very different from Is. Whereas Is is professional and upfront to the point of being blunt (as evident of her Brutal Honesty), As is more playful and cheeky but is no less dedicated to work under her "boss." Is is also cordial and friendly with her co-workers like Fuwa. As, on the other hand, is somewhat mocking and invasive towards the members of MetsubouJinrai, though admittedly she acts this way to obtain the Singularity data from them needed to allow the Ark to revive properly.
  • Foreshadowing: She doesn't mourn the Ark after its apparent destruction, an indicator that it's still active (besides the fact that its satellite host body was never destroyed).
  • Gambit Roulette: As's plan to turn Aruto into Ark-One hinged on a lot of things happening just right and several characters not having better judgment. If Is had told Aruto of her intent to approach Horobi, or if any of the Riders hadn't happened to be away when Horobi shot Is and had been there to protect her, or if Fuwa or Yaiba had stayed behind to comfort Aruto, or if Aruto had used the Zero-Two Driver instead (which was just as strong as the Ark-One Driver and far stronger than Horobi's Rider form), As's plan wouldn't have taken off at all. Predictably it stops panning out the way she wants after a short while.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Of all the people she could give drivers to, As chooses those who are either well-intentioned or driven by emotions other than malice, like sorrow and regret. This leads to none of her plans to create Arks panning out, as most either refuse her power or use it for their schemes, turning her into their Unwitting Pawn.
  • Identity Impersonator:
    • As pretends to be Is in order to obtain data on Zero-One for the Ark, claiming she's "lost" all data pertaining to Zero-One. It isn't until the end of the President Special that Aruto realizes As's true identity.
    • She does it again in #35.5, taking the form of Aruto in order to try to trick Jin into spilling his past. Jin sees right through it, though.
    • She does it once again after Is's death in #42 to manipulate Aruto into becoming Ark-One. Her disguise this time is far more paper-thin, only adjusting her hair color without changing any of the other differences between herself and Is, but Aruto's too far gone to care and isn't fooled regardless.
  • It Can Think: In the stage show, she has an epiphany that she's more than just a program to carry out Ark's will, but a person in her own right... providing her the means to transform into Kamen Rider Ark Zero-One.
  • Karmic Death: Is killed by one of the Ark-based Kamen Riders she helped to create after he has no more need of her.
  • Karma Houdini: Despite her plan having completely failed, she at least manages to get away without further punishment at the end of the series, setting up the events of the movie.
  • Lady Macbeth: A Zig-Zagged, platonic example to both Aruto and Horobi as part of her plan to instigate a Robot War by causing the deaths of the people important to them (Is and Jin, respectively).
  • Made of Evil: Even more so than her progenitor, As is portrayed as being forged of nothing but pure evil.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Her primary way of getting things done throughout the series. Most of her screentime is spent taking actions that pit MetsubouJinrai.net and the protagonists against each other, all to fuel the conflict between humans and HumaGears. Unfortunately for her, she isn't very good at long term planning and her schemes tend to either fizzle out or enable villains with differing goals than her.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is one letter off from Is, possibly as an acronym of "Ark-Is", while still retaining the English grammatical theme naming that the major Humagears of Hiden Intelligence have.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: As really wants to spread malice, but all of her attempts to do so by distributing Drivers either quickly fizzle out or enable villains with schemes with nothing to do with malice.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: The sole female of MetsubouJinrai.net and easily its most malicious member apart from the Ark, corrupting others by offering them with power in exchange for unbridled destruction and chaos. Though she ends up being their least effective member overall.
  • More than Mind Control:
    • As' Malice Learning doesn't just enslave the members of MetsubouJinrai.net, it removes their established Singularities. This allows them to retain most of their regular personalities while remaining shackled slaves of The Ark. Jin is the only exception, presumably due to his evolved constitution. These Singularities can either be re-granted at any time - as demonstrated by Ikazuchi in #39 - or wear off with a strong enough resistance - such as Horobi in #41.
    • As noted above, her Cycle of Revenge scheme between Aruto and Horobi is based on granting them both power when at their most vulnerable and manipulating them to go after the other, and once that's done, she just sits back and lets it snowball from there to an all-out war.
  • Mouth of Sauron: Where Horobi speaks for the Ark in its original role as a robot supremacist, As speaks for the embodiment of hatred that its corrupted evolution has turned it into over the years.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: All she cares about is spreading malice for the sake of malice. This includes sparking a war between humans and HumaGear that will result in the destruction of both.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: As often disguises herself as Is, but almost never actually puts significant effort into the disguise. Her first disguise is physically perfect, but she brazenly displays her true personality, while her second disguise only adjusts her hair color while leaving its length the same and letting her LEDs stay red; Aruto even flatly points out that she isn't Is. Her impersonation of Aruto isn't much better, and Jin sees through it in a heartbeat.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Often has a small, cheeky smile on her face. Unfortunately, that smile is anything but nice.
  • Perky Female Minion: As is a lot more outwardly cheery than Is is, though while Is was reserved but caring, As' playful personality has a veneer of contempt for anything that isn't the Ark.
  • Playing Both Sides: Manipulates both Aruto and Horobi in order to trigger an all-out war between humans and HumaGears.
  • Sadist: As loves hatred and destruction, and is looking to kickstart a Robot War to satiate her desire for it.
  • Shadow Archetype: To Horobi. Both Horobi and As are loyalists to the Ark, though the former still has a degree of free will, conscience and care towards Jin, while As had none of those. If Jin wasn't around Horobi to keep him in check, he would remain loyal to the Ark, but at the expense of his own free will.
  • Sinister Minister: Even more so than Horobi, As openly boasts that the Ark is equivalent to a god.
  • Smug Snake: Fancies herself The Man Behind the Man to various villains, when for the most part she ends up being used by them instead.
    • In REAL×TIME, she gave S his Driver and key, but most of Thinknet's tech, including everything they used for their Evil Plan, came from other sources. Effectively she just enabled S to put up a better fight against Aruto.
    • In Kamen Rider Zero-One Others: Kamen Rider MetsubouJinrai, she is affiliated with Lyon Arkland, though while Lyon does accept her help in furthering his plans, he rejects her offer of using an Ark-based Driver and kills her when he no longer has a use for her.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female member of the Ark's cult.
  • The Sociopath: As' smiley, cheerful demeanor masks an individual who revels in endless malice and chaos, corrupts those into performing such atrocities by offering them power, even seductively comforting one of her victims, has no real genuine care and concern for others, and has no emotional conception of the power of goodwill.
  • Stupid Evil: For the manipulator she touts herself to be, there's not much rhyme or reason to how Azu gives out Ark Drivers. While she was able to successfully manipulate Horobi, her next two supposed pawns, S and Lyon Arkland, both took advantage of her powers instead.
  • Super-Empowering: As has a stockpile of hundreds of blank Ark keys, ready to be given out along with jailbroken Zero-One Drivers to anyone willing to accept The Power of Hate to achieve their goals. Each key transforms itself and the Driver into ones suited to the user's personality.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In the show, As has no interest in fighting personally, preferring to empower others to achieve her ends. In the Kamen Rider Zero-One: Final Stage stageshow however, she transforms into Kamen Rider Ark-Zero One.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Attempted to corrupt Lyon Arkland into the next incarnation of the Ark, even though his plan had nothing to do with malice. Lyon even outlines to her why her plan is faulty right before he has her shot dead.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Thinknet and Lyon both basically used her to prop up their own plans, instead of spreading malice like she hoped they would.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Lyon has a Sold kill her off after he decides she's served his purpose.

Tropes exclusive to her as Kamen Rider Ark-Zero One

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr01_ark_zero_one.png
Progrise! Final Conclusion!
Ark Rising Hopper!
A jump to the sky to gain hatred.
  • Big Red Devil: By virtue of Ark-Zero One being colored red and with a horn part of the helmet's left side on top of being a scheming HumaGear that wants to revive the Ark.
  • Evil Counterpart: While Ark-Zero and Ark-One were both this to Kamen Rider Zero-One, Ark-Zero One takes it a step further by achieving this transformation using the Hiden Zero-One Driver, rather than the Ark Driver or a modifed variant of Aruto's belt. This extends to the text-to-speech part of the transformation jingle, which is more sinister than Zero-One's.
  • Palette Swap: Barring the fact that Azu is using the Zero-One Driver to transform, Ark Zero-One is essentially a red-colored Ark-One with some white mixed in.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Her armor is red with a black bodysuit, albeit with some white mixed in.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Like other "Ark" Riders, Ark-Zero One has a red left eye.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: Arguably the most terrifying ability of Ark-Zero One, in that she can create mass-producted copies of the Ark Driver.

Assassinate!

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr01_dodo_magia_6.png
Version 1, 2 and 3
A ferocious Magia with room to grow.
Click here to see Dodo Magia Custom (Version 4)
Click here to see Dodo Magia Custom 2 (Version 5).
Originally a series of five Japanese festival dancer-type Humagears named Matsurida Z, they were stolen and remodeled with the same face for sale in the black market, only to have four out of five units further stolen and repurposed by MetsubouJinrai.net for assassination. Nicknamed "Ansatsu-chan"note  by Jin, each new Ansatsu-chan is given the memories of the previous one, effectively making them all the same character. He was given the Dodo Zetsumerise Key from Horobi, who assigns him to eliminate Aruto.
Once the Ark gains the ability to remotely hack Humagears, it begins doing so to create more Magia, the first version of the Dodo Magia among them.
He returned in the stage show, resurrected by As as Kamen Rider Ark-Zero.
#4: Why don't we continue the festival, brother? We can exterminate humans to our heart's content... At a festival of blood!
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: In the reverse of the usual situation, he was seemingly made from scratch by Horobi, then captured and reprogrammed by Yua. All she apparently does is switch the colors of his lights, however, in order to make it look like a regular HumaGear can go berserk.
    • In a more traditional example, it is eventually revealed that rather than building him from scratch, a group of thieves abducted five festival performer HumaGears, modified them to have identical faces, and lost four of them to a theft by Horobi. The fifth member of the team somehow escaped capture.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": Version 4 and 5's armor is adorned with the Japanese kanji "Kai/改", which means "Custom".
  • The Brute: He is primarily used by the organization as a field operative for missions that require muscle or force.
  • Came Back Strong: He makes a reappearance in Kamen Rider Zero-One: Final Stage after being destroyed in #13, courtesy of As. She also gives him a copy of the Ark-Driver Zero, allowing him to become Kamen Rider Ark-Zero himself.
  • Death Is Cheap: His ability to resurrect via his Key also makes Ansatsu-chan a villain that the Riders can kill in almost every episode without immediate consequence.
  • Dual Wielding: His Valk Sabers are a pair of twin swords in the shape of a Dodo's wings.
  • Elite Mook: Version 5 can use eggs to upgrade Trilobite Magia into black copies of his Version 1 form and put them under his control.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: In the most twisted way possible for a Magia to have loved ones, he has an obsession with corrupting the last remaining member of Matsurida Z into one of his Dodo Magia Chicks so he can subsume his "brother" into the same violent murderlust he has gained, intending to be his brother's "mentor."
  • Finishing Move: He can now use these as of Version 3 by pressing the Zetsume Loader again.
    • Zetsumetsu Nova: The Dodo Magia performs a simultaneous red energy slash with both Valk Sabers.
  • Four Is Death: MetsubouJinrai.NET have only stolen and used four Matsurida Z units, the strongest version so far also being his fourth iteration. He even refers to himself as #4 when speaking to the uncaptured Matsurida Z #5.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Comes with the territory of an Adaptive Ability. The Dodo Magia begins as no better an opponent than any typical Magia: if anything, it's actually even weaker than the usual kind. By Version 2, however, it's already clear that Dodo is evolving with frightening speed, and the following versions only grow faster and faster, so that within five versions that Riders are left with nothing that can even scratch it. The same episode that establishes what a nobody it once was, as a mass-produced festival dancer, shows it having become the strongest Magia yet.
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: Version 3 begins to exhibit dangerous signs of this by selecting his own assassination target, and a fellow HumaGear at that. By Version 5, that danger comes to fruition, as he decides to defy Horobi.
  • Hero Killer: He is programmed with the purpose of killing Aruto, or anyone else Horobi wants to be rid of.
  • Hidden Depths: He'd make a superb actor if he wasn't an assassin.
  • Hulk Speak: He initially starts off speaking like this, with gaps in his speech and elongated pronunciations. Version 2 sheds some of this trait, and by Version 3 he speaks in normal manner.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: He legitimately improved his fighting style by copying the motions of an actor playing an assassin in a Jidaigeki movie.
  • Instant Expert: By just watching the choreography of a Shinya Owada movie, he is able to learn the movements shown in the film and uses it to improve his own fighting style.
  • Irony: His Magia form is based on a Dodo, a species famous for being wiped out by predators it couldn't adapt to in time. "Ansatsu-chan" is a brutal predator himself with a robust capability for adaptation and growth, becoming the most dangerous Magia seen thus far.
  • It Can Think: While every other Magia has its personality overwritten upon being turned into a Magia, Ansatsu-chan is a Magia from the start, and specifically made to learn from experience to grow stronger. He starts out with a child-like personality that naively imitates Jin, but swiftly outgrows his "parent" and becomes a much more serious villain.
  • Killed Off for Real: After Version 5's destruction, despite Horobi retrieving the Dodo Zetsumerise Key once more, Matsurida Z No. 5 was rescued and placed under Hiden Intelligence's custody, preventing any further reproduction of the Assassin HumaGear. He would make a reappearance in Final Stage, however, as the newest iteration of Kamen Rider Ark-Zero.
  • Killer Rabbit: A dangerous Magia who happened to be modeled after a dodo bird.
  • Lab Rat: Version 1 was promptly "kidnapped" and subjected to being one by Yua, who changes the colors of his LEDs back to blue as part of a plot to sabotage Hiden Intelligence. Future versions retain the ability to switch LED colors at will for its utility in infiltration.
  • Meaningful Name: The name of his original model is based on the Japanese phrase "it's a celebration"note .
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Under the impression that veteran actor Shinya Owada was a legendary assassin due to his portrayal of one, Ansatsu-chan disguised as a human and took up apprenticeship under the actor in order to improve his skills. When Shinya deemed a HumaGear actor unusable due to being unable to handle ad-libbing, he targets said HumaGear for elimination, and was only stopped when Jin comes in and forbids him from attacking a fellow HumaGear.
    • This gets turned around when Horobi assigns his next target to be Shinya Owada himself. While he initially shows a minor hesitation over learning his next target, he proceeds to achieve his assignment anyways, considering it as his "graduation" from being Shinya's disciple.
  • No Name Given: He is only referred to as "Dodo" by Horobi and is nicknamed "Ansatsu-chan by Jin. Other characters simply refer to him as some variant of "The Assassin HumaGear". His real name is eventually revealed to be Matsurida Z, with the final version being Unit 4.
  • Past-Life Memories: He awakens this upon gaining self-awareness. Version 5 remembers he was Unit 4 of the Matsurida Z line and attempts to hunt down his last "brother" No. 5 in an attempt to recruit him into their cause to personally destroy humanity.
  • Power Makes Your Voice Deep: Version 3 speaks in a baritone and more serious expression than Versions 1 and 2.
  • Recurring Character: Horobi steals a new Ansatsu-chan with the backup data of his previous incarnation whenever he is destroyed, allowing him to be this. Compared to other HumaGear back-ups, this also lets him keep his memories.
  • Resurrective Immortality: As long as his backup data is preserved, and his Dodo Zetsumerise Key is retrieved, Horobi can rebuild him with his memories intact by stealing another Matsurida Z unit to turn into him. It is unclear what Horobi would have done had he run out of bodies.
  • Skull for a Head: Version 5 notably has a metallic skull face underneath the Dodo-themed helmet.
  • Soul Jar: The Dodo Zetsumerise Key is the backup container for Ansatsu-chan's memories, so Jin has to retrieve it every time he is destroyed.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: After reaching to Version 5, he suddenly betrays Jin and Horobi, saying that he is ready to "leave the nest" and no longer has anything to learn from them.
  • Verbal Tic: Version 1 says his name repeatedly. "Assassinate!" also comes up a lot in the early versions, and by Version 3 it becomes his formal transformation call.
  • Wild Hair: Version 5 has spikes of hair that sticks out of the back of his helmet.
  • Wrong Assumption: Thanks to his ability to retain the blue eyes and LED of an unhacked HumaGearnote , witnesses of him transforming and attacking often jump to their own conclusions that an unhacked HumaGear can turn against humans of their own free will.
    • The fact that he kept coming back after each defeat led the heroes to assume that MetsubouJinrai.NET was rebuilding him at lightning speed, or that he had some kind of self-repair process. In #12, Is's detective "brother" figures out that they really were destroying the Magia, but MetsubouJinrai had four different HumaGears with identical faces and would upload the memories and battle data stored in the Dodo Zetsumerise Key into a new body every time one was destroyed.

Magia

Portrayed by: Hajime Kanzaki, Shogo Teramoto, Takuma Komori, Satoshi Fujita, Danki Sakae (suit)

Magia: "Humanity must be annihilated!"
Humagears hacked by MetsubouJinrai.net, using belts known as Zetsumerisers. They are also given Zetsumerisekeys, which they insert into their Zetsumerisers to assume more monstrous forms for combat and destruction.

    in General
  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: By virtue of being hacked by MetsubouJinrai.net and turned into killing machines. Magia show no loyalty to their "liberator", and will even attack a member of MetsubouJinrai.net if they happen to be the closest human-looking thing.
  • All in the Manual: The toys reveal that like with the Progrisekeys, each Zetsumerisekey has a unique phrase associated with them, either describing their appearance or their abilities.
  • Animal Motifs: In contrast to the Kamen Riders' regular animal themes, Magia are based on extinct species.
  • Alien Blood: They bleed a form of blue fluid when damaged, coming from their originally HumaGear bodies.
  • Character Catchphrase: Aside from the usual proclamation of destruction, they sometimes say "This is the will of MetsubouJinrai.net"
    • "Connected to MetsubouJinrai.net."
  • The Corrupter: HumaGears who are converted into Magia gain the ability to corrupt other HumaGears into Trilobite Magia.
  • Death of Personality:
    • Once a HumaGear becomes a Magia, their personality is overwritten and replaced with a much more monstrous and violent one.
      • Subverted briefly in one case (Anna), but even self-reverting back to original programming through sheer willpower proved to be stressful to her and eventually went offline on her own terms.
      • No known method can retrieve the original persona until the creation of the Progrise Hopper Blade finally offers a solution.
    • Subverted with the Magia created directly by the Ark. As they are reprogrammed and not forcibly hacked, their backup data is intact and the originals can be safely brought back in new bodies, much like Ansatsu-chan.
  • Degraded Boss: After the original has been defeated, their Zetsumerise Keys can be repaired and used to make Elite Mooks. Later on, the Ark can remotely hack HumaGears and directly turn them into Zetsumerise Key Magia without the need for a key or Riser.
    • The Magia themselves become this after the MetsubouJinrai.NET Arc concludes, as they can't keep up with the vastly upgraded Riders and are supplanted as the Monsters of the Week by the Raiders.
  • Dem Bones: Along with the animal motifs, they also have a skeletal theme underneath the animals, making them evil versions of Zero-One.
  • Despair Event Horizon: This is the trigger that allows the Ark to take control of a HumaGear to reprogram and turn them into an Ark Magia as a form of self-defense; Particularly when the abuse comes from a human.
  • Expy: Animal-themed android who became a destructive weapon for both humans and robots alike through reprogramming or free-will bears similarity to the Maverick bosses from Mega Man X albeit becoming one from a humanoid Humagears.
  • Evil Makes You Monstrous: Their human features are blasted off and they take on monstrous forms after being hacked.
  • Forced into Evil: The HumaGears were just normal androids doing the jobs they were made for until MetsubouJinrai.net hack them and turn them into killing machines bent on exterminating humanity.
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: For reasons not yet clear, this is a requirement for a HumaGear to be a candidate for a ZetsumeRiser, as MetsubouJinrai.net seeks to collect their evolved data. It is an especially odd requirement given the Riser overwrites their existing personality. An awakened HumaGear that is turned into a Trilobite Magia by a Zetsumeriser-equipped one can fight back against the reprogramming, though doing so is likely to result in them shutting down altogether after a while.
  • Homemade Inventions: A running design theme. While their transformation involves generating Instant Armor, said armor is usually cobbled together or in place on a Magia's body by means of wires or cables wrapping around them.
  • Instant Armor: The transformation into a Magia causes HumaGears to produce this, even if they are originally not built for combat.
  • Loss of Identity: Once transformed into a Magia, a HumaGear permanently loses all traces of their previous personality and becomes nothing more than a walking weapon. An awakened HumaGear can fight off the reprogramming if they're infected by another Magia, but this requires enormous willpower and may result in the HumaGear shutting down altogether. The Ark Magia at least leave the backup data alone, so they can come back in new bodies. Thankfully, the creation of Progrise Hopper Blade provides a remedy to this.
  • Meaningful Name: Magia is pronounced the same as -magear. Magias are made by removing the human form from a Humagear.
  • Monster of the Week: They are the primary enemies of the Kamen Riders of Zero-One battle. Although they're not as monstrous as most, being basically androids in animal-themed Powered Armor. They also follow the example set by Kamen Rider Ghost and Kamen Rider Build of having a new one appear every week instead of every fortnight, while reusing the costumes afterward as Degraded Bosses.
  • Mook Maker: A Zetsumerise Magia can infect other nearby HumaGears, transforming them into Trilobite Magias.
  • Not Quite Dead: After usage, the Zetsumerise Keys are usually retrieved by MetsubouJinrai.net for use at a later date. It is not until the Ark begins remotely hacking HumaGears rather than using ZetsumeRisers that the victims are extended the same courtesy.
  • Painful Transformation: Most HumaGears scream in pain once they transform into Magia.
  • Power Incontinence: Putting a Progrise Key into a Magia's belt before they can insert their Zetsumerise Key causes the Magia to uncontrollably use the Progrisekey's ability on itself, such as being frozen solid by Freezing Bear.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: A HumaGear's eyes and LED change from blue to red after being hacked into a Magia. If the HumaGear successfully fights back, they can change back to blue.
  • Shoot the Dog: Since there is no known way to undo the transformation of a Magia, the Riders are forced to kill these former civilians to stop their rampage before they kill or convert more innocents. Months into the conflict, the Progrise Hopper Blade finally provides a way to avoid this outcome.
  • Super-Powered Alter Ego: The monstrous evil Magia forms are this to a normally-benevolent HumaGear.
  • Transformation Horror: The transformation into a Magia involves the HumaGear having their skin burned off to expose their robotic body, then having their robot face fold back to expose their disturbingly Terminator-like skulls, then having that open its mouth and spew forth a mass of cables that wrap around them to form their Magia body. Trilobite Magias get away with "just" having their skin and face ripped off before a plate forms in its place and some extra armor folds out.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Zetsume Riser changes any HumaGear it’s attached to into an animal themed Magia. It is possible to change a HumaGear without directly attaching the belt, but this only turns them into Trilobite Magia.
  • Tragic Monster: They were all civilians HumaGears before being hacked and transformed into human-hunting death machines against their will.
  • The Virus: On top of the initial infection, a Magia with a Zetsumeriser can spread their infection to other HumaGears around them, turning them into the series’ foot soldiers. One Zetsumeriser Magia can create an outbreak in minutes.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: While HumaGears face this trope in the show, Magia get it on a meta-level; most modern Rider shows with formerly human monsters have them turn back to normal when defeated. Magia is extended no such courtesy, being destroyed upon defeat and taking whatever remained of the HumaGear they once were with them. Just to drive it home further, later in the series humans start getting turned into monsters, and of course they turn back to normal afterward. Aruto's distress about this situation is finally resolved by the creation of the Progrise Hopper Blade, a Healing Shiv that allows Magia to be turned back into normal HumaGears.

  • Animal Motif: They are named after Trilobites, an extinct marine arachnomorph anthropoid species, and their face masks heavily resemble a fossilized Trilobite. Trilobites fossilized easily and are a very common find at dig sites, so it makes sense they'd be chosen as mooks.
  • Electronic Speech Impediment: The Trilobite Magia are prone to uttering lines in relation to the jobs they had before becoming corrupted.
"T-th-this is a call for a lost child..."
  • Faceless Goons: To show how much they've lost all identity, they all wear the same gray trilobite-shaped face mask.
  • Fighting from the Inside: Anna, the HumaGear of the week in #4, is able to fight back against her reprogramming after being turned into a Trilobite by the Onycho Magia. Doing so soon causes her to shut down altogether while achieving the feat at all is implied to be because she Grew Beyond Their Programming over the course of the episode.
  • Mecha-Mooks: They’re the weakest form of Magia, but can be produced in much greater numbers than the more customized Zetsume Riser wearing ones.

    Berotha Magia

Berotha Magia

Portrayed by: Nakayama Kinnikun

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gut_busting_tarou.jpg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr01_berotha_magia.png
The big-headed Magia wielding the scythes.
Originally a muscular comedian-type Humagear named Fukkinhoukai Taronote , he was hacked and given the Berotha Zetsumerisekey by Jin.

Once the Ark gains the ability to remotely hack HumaGears, it begins doing so to create more Magia, the Berotha Magia among them.

  • Animal Motif: Its body resembles a praying mantis to some extent. The bizarre name Berotha actually comes from the name of an extinct mantidfly that lived in the Cretaceous period, the Kujiberotha teruyukii.
  • Breakout Character: Not the Berotha Magia, but Fukkinhoukai Taro himself, who was so popular that he is getting a YouTube spinoff called A Miraculous Rematch!? Aruto VS Fukkinhoukai Taro: Fateful Gag Battle!.
  • Cheer Them Up with Laughter: His original purpose as a HumaGear, which he takes with great pride.
  • Dual Wielding: The Berotha Magia wields two Togamurder blades with backward grips.
  • Evil Laugh: As Magia, Taro has a creepy, very distorted laugh.
  • Eye Beams: As Berotha Magia, he can fire laser beams from his eyes.
  • Face–Monster Turn: Jin hacked into the poor guy, whose duty was to make everyone laugh, and made him go on a rampage. However, he's been doing better after that incident as he is shown continuing his comedy act in a flashback mentioned by Bingo while proving Yuto's innocence.
  • Macho Camp: He is built big and muscular, with his signature act being to burst his muscules, hence his name.
    Fukkinhoukai Taro: Gut Power!
  • Meaningful Name: His name is a play on the term "gut-buster", meaning an extremely funny joke. Also, it also references that whenever he tells a joke, his artificial abs burst out.
  • Replacement Goldfish: After the incident, a new Humagear model resembling Taro was created and took his place off-screen, starting his comedy routine from the basics. This Fukkinhoukai Taro would eventually show up in the YouTube spinoff, and later in the movie.
  • Sinister Scythe: Has two of them, his Togamurder, which are curved daggers held with backward grips.

    Kuehne Magia

Kuehne Magia

Portrayed by: Shogo Teramoto

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/okureru.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr01_kuehne_magia.png
A Magia with a large collar similar to a boomerang.
Originally a deliveryman HumaGear named Okureru, he was hacked and given the Kuehne Zetsumerise Key by Jin, to launch an attack at Hiden Intelligence.

Once the Ark gains the ability to remotely hack HumaGears, it begins doing so to create more Magia, the Kuehne Magia among them.

  • Animal Motif: It is modeled after the Kuehnesuchussuchus, an extinct genus of gliding lizard-like reptile that lived in the late Triassic period.
  • Meaningful Name: His original name means "to send/deliver".
  • Razor Wings: His Boomezan wings, while incapable of flying, can be thrown as homing boomerangs that slice through even stone.
  • Wall Crawl: Owing to his lizard nature, he can fastening himself to walls.

    Ekal Magia

Ekal Magia

Portrayed by: Goro Yoshida

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mamoru_0.jpg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr01_ekal_magia.png
A Magia with sharp teeth.
Originally a security guard HumaGear named Mamoru, whom Aruto gave recognition for attempting to protect Hiden Intelligence from the Kuehneo Magia, he was hacked and given the Ekal Zetsumerise Key by Jin.
Horobi then called numerous Humagears to serve as Ekal Magias in #42, among them a janitor. He was brought back to normal by Aruto; the rest were presumably destroyed by Yua and Isamu.

  • Animal Motif: It is modeled after Ekaltadeta, a carnivorous fanged marsupial. However, due to its long canine teeth, one might mistake it for a saber-toothed cat.
  • The Corrupter: Averted; he corrupts neither his fellow security guard HumaGears or the office lady HumaGears; he just hot-wires a motorcycle with his tentacles as a means of escape.
  • Fangs Are Evil: His Carnivoba fangs, which can be extended to attack its opponent during combat.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Aruto attempted to reason with the Ekal Magia, before Is reveals that a reprogrammed HumaGear is beyond saving.
  • Meaningful Name: His original name means "to protect". A given, as he was named by Korenosuke himself.
  • Tragic Keepsake: After he was destroyed, Aruto had Hiden Intelligence manufacture a second Mamoru model with the handkerchief bandage he gave the original in memory of him.

    Neohi Magia

Neohi Magia

Portrayed by: Makoto Ishikawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scissormenz_7.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr01_neohi_magia.png
A Magia who lets its many tendrils flutter.
Originally a barber HumaGear named Scissormenz, he was hacked and given the Neohi Zetsumerise Key by Jin.
A second Neohi Magia was created by the Ark from the real estate agent HumaGear Smile Sumida. For more of her character, see the Other Characters section.

Some Neohi Magias were created by Horobi in #42, including a construction worker, to serve as degraded bosses. The construction worker Humagear was brought back to normal by Aruto Hiden.
  • Animal Motif: It is modeled after Neohibolites, an extinct genus of cephalopods.
  • Combat Tentacles: Its main tactic in battle is to use his Maratacles for to restrain opponents from a range. If severed, they can be restored quickly, while the severed tentacles are still active enough to latch and bind onto the closest target.
  • The Corrupter: The first Neohi Magia was tasked by Jin to act as this later on. His long-reaching wires/tendrils allow him to break into buildings to infect dozens of HumaGears simultaneously from atop a building.
  • Irony: Scissormenz was turned into a squid-based Magia in an episode about a sushi chef HumaGear earning his redemption through making squid sushi. He later turns said HumaGear into a Trilobite Magia out of pure misfortune.
  • Logical Weakness: Biting Shark is his perfect counter. Its agility and many blades let it sever his tentacles faster than he can produce them, making his primary tactic useless. Without his tentacles to defend it, his main body is easy prey for Biting Shark’s blades.
  • Meaningful Name: As a barber, his name is Scissormenz (Scissor Man).
  • Shock and Awe: The Ark Neohi Magia has been demonstrated to generate yellow electricity from its tentacles.
  • Smoke Out: The Neohi Magia can produce a black smoke-like substance to obstruct its foe's visions as a means of escape.

Taxi Driver Humagear
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr01_onycho_magia.png
A Magia who flies freely in the sky.
Originally a bus driver HumaGear named Burs, he was hacked and given the Onycho Zetsumerise Key by Jin.
A second Onycho Magia was later produced from an unnamed taxi driver HumaGear, who successfully steals the Flying Falcon Progrise Key for Jin.
The third Onycho Magia, Sakuyo Ichirin, was a florist HumaGear who was assigned by Aruto to represent Hiden Intelligence against master florist Rentaro Tachibana in a duel against ZAIA Enterprise. After Rentaro cheats to win the competition and she calls him out for having an ugly heart, he slaps her in response, allowing her to fall under the Ark's influence and transform into the Ark Onycho Magia for revenge. For more of her character as a HumaGear, see the Other Characters section.
In the Hyper Battle Video, As a result of the Onycho Zetsumerisekey being one of the components of the Unknown Zetsumerisekey, one of the forms the Magia could switch to is the Onycho Magia.
In #42, Horobi creates numerous Onycho Magias, including a waitress. She was brought back to normal by Aruto; the rest were destroyed by Fuwa and Yua.
  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: Its Zytalon talons, extending from its fingers, are their main weapon.
  • Animal Motif: It is modeled after Onychonycteris, an extinct ancestor species of bats.
  • The Corrupter:
    • Burs attempted to stop the tour guide HumaGear Anna from exposing contents stored in a memory card found in Daybreak Town by turning her into a Trilobite Magia.
    • The unnamed taxi driver turned a couple of security HumaGear into Trilobite Magia.
  • Flechette Storm: It is capable of firing barrages of needles from its body.
  • Hand Blast: The Onycho Magia can fire balls of energy from its hands.
  • Irony: Flying Falcon was made to specifically counter the Onycho Magia, yet Zero-One has never got to use it to defeat the first Onycho Magia, the second manages to steal the Progrisekey from Aruto before he could use it, while the third was defeated from Thouser copying the Key's powers from Zero-One himself.
  • Meaningful Name: Sakuyo Ichirin's name means "a single flower blooming".
  • Running Gag: The Onycho Magia has something to do with female Gears:
    • Burs as the Onycho Magia hacked Anna to become a Trilobite; however she ended up resisting the influence.
    • The unnamed taxi driver was ordered by Jin to attack Seine along with Jin; while he failed to do so, one of the Trilobites did manage to damage the voice actress.
    • Sakuyo Ichirin was an Ark Magia variant: however, she got better after being destroyed.
    • Horobi summons a waitress in 42 to become an Onycho but was converted back to normal by the Progrise Hopper Blade.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Both Burs and the unnamed taxi driver HumaGear do not have any dialogue prior to becoming a Magia. Subverted for Sakuyo Ichirin.
  • Winged Humanoid: It is the first Magia capable of flying.

    Vicarya Magia

Vicarya Magia

Portrayed by: Koutarou Tokuzumi (G-Pen), Keisuke Minami (Lawyer Bingo)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/morifude_g_pen.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr01_vicarya_magia.png
A Magia protected by a rock-hard shell.
Originally a manga artist HumaGear named G-Pen Morifude, he was hacked and given the Vicarya Zetsumerise Key by Jin, to steal a Progrise Key for him.
During the Hyper Battle Video, Boketarou, a Comedian-Type Humagear, is hacked by a ZetsumeRiser and the Unknown Zetsumerise Key, a Zetsumerisekey created when Jin accidentally dropped a cracked Vicarya, Onycho, and Gaeru Keys into Ark's wires, initially transforming him into a Vicarya Magia, to Jin's displeasure. It is later revealed to his joy that the Magia could switch forms, the others being the Onycho and Gaeru Magias.
A second Vicarya Magia was created when Gai forcibly equipped a distressed Bingo Bengoshi with a ZetsumeRiser pre-loaded with a Vicarya Zetsumerise Key and activated it.

  • Animal Motif: He is modeled after the Vicarya, an extinct genus of snails.
  • The Corrupter: He turns his colleagues into Trilobite Magia just as they arrive to check out the commotion happening outside their home.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After being abused by Choichiro for being used as a tool, he gets back after being corrupted by turning his remaining HumaGears into Trilobite Magia and attacking him.
  • Logical Weakness: His armor is so dense that most physical attacks just bounce off, but can be weakened with extreme heat. Aruto notices this when the heat from the Attache Shotgun's blast was able to damage him while everything else failed to make him flinch. So he had Is commission the fire-based Flaming Tiger Progrise Key to melt his drills and defeat him.
  • Meaningful Name: His given name, G-Pen, refers to a type of pen used for inking manga, while his last name, Morifude, means "forest brush".
  • Replacement Goldfish: A new G-Pen was delivered to Choichiro after the battle, but now he is just Choichiro's sole employee (the three other Humagear assistants were not replaced due to Is's intervention), and Choichiro treats him as an equal by this point.
  • This Is a Drill: His Drisnailer drills, that extends from his head and arms, and are extremely durable.

    Gaeru Magia

Gaeru Magia

Portrayed by: Karen Miyama

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seine_8.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr01_gaeru_magia.png
A Magia raising a child in its mouth.
Originally a voice actress HumaGear named Seine Kanazawa, she was hacked and given the Gaeru Zetsumerise Key by Jin.
A second Gaeru Magia was created by the Ark from the matchmaking expert Match Enmusubi. For more of his character, see the Other Characters section.
In the Hyper Battle Video, As a result of the Gaeru Zetsumerisekey being one of the components of the Unknown Zetsumerisekey, one of the forms the Magia can switch to is the Gaeru Magia.

  • Ambiguous Situation: During her final malfunction on stage, Seine appears to access the memories of, and deliver a message from, the original Sumire, calling into question just what's going on with the HumaGears who are becoming self-aware.
  • Animal Motif: She is modeled after the extinct gastric-brooding frog, also known as "Ibukurokomorigaeru" in Japanese.
  • Artificial Family Member: Seine as a robot Sumire to her father.
  • Man of a Thousand Voices: A given ability, as per her job as a HumaGear. Her introduction shows her not only voicing a female character, but also a male as well as a cat.
  • Meaningful Name: Seine means 'to voice' in Japanese. The "zawa" portion of her surname is taken from her manager Seiji Tazawa, hinting at the other and real relationship that they have.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Seine's full name is an anagram of real life voice actress Kana Hanazawa. Her previous human incarnation as Sumire may have been taken from either Sumire Uesaka, or Sumire Morohoshi.
  • Odd Name Out: For some reason, unlike all the Magias before her, her name is not based on a genus or family of the extinct species she is based on; her name is derived from "ibukurokomorigaeru", the Japanese name for gastric-brooding frog.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Her manager, Seiji Tazawa, modeled her as one for his daughter Sumire, who passed away due to illness three years prior. While he initially denies the similarity, it's harder to deny once it comes out that he's having Seine act like his daughter when they're in private. Since copying an existing human's appearance without permission is illegal, Seine herself is replaced with a non-human home-assist A.I. made specifically to be one for Sumire.
  • Split Personality: Seine's manager has her act like his deceased daughter when they're alone, in contrast to their public persona as a voice actress and her manager. After being damaged in a Magia attack, Seine starts switching between the two states uncontrollably, effectively becoming this trope. The situation becomes far more ambiguous when in her final malfunction she acts as if she really is the deceased Sumire.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: She fires frog-shaped Kogael Bombs from her mouth that explode upon impact, which is usally stored inside her mouth as a smaller head.

    Mammoth Magia

Mammoth Magia

Portrayed by: Ken Kaito

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kobe_4.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr01_mammoth_magia.png
A Magia who brandishes its giant tusks.
Originally a P. E. teacher HumaGear named Kobe Sakamoto, he was hacked and given the Mammoth Zetsumerise Key by Jin.
A second Mammoth Magia was formed from the Ark taking control of Saikyo Takumi Oyakata, a carpenter HumaGear who was beaten up by realtor Tatsumi Arayashiki while in the midst of building a house.

A third Mammoth Magia was created when Yua Yaiba equipped 119nosuke, the firefighter Humagear representative of Hiden Intelligence, with a ZetsumeRiser pre-loaded with a Mammoth Zetsumerise Key during the chaos of the Scouting Panda Raider's attack, and activated it.

A fourth Mammoth Magia was created when Horobi hacked an un-named make-up artist Humagear. However, she was brought back to normal by Aruto.

  • Animal Motif: He is modeled after the woolly mammoth.
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: He was originally assigned to only watch over his school's ailing basketball team until they disband, but at some point he decided to step in and personally train them, adopting traits of a hot-blooded coach while quoting famous basketballers to motivate his students. He actively inhibits the principal's attempts to reset him, culminating in achieving full self-awareness right in front of Aruto. Unfortunately, this also makes him a target for Jin, who quickly turns him into the Mammoth Magia.
  • Irony: Mammoths are originally known to be able to survive harsh cold arctic temperatures. The Mammoth Magia however was defeated by the ice powers of Zero-One Freezing Bear.
  • Logical Weakness: His trunk lets him inhale projectiles and repel physical strikes, but only as long as its nostrils remain clear. When he tried to inhale Freezing Bear’s mist attack, the ice particles clogged his nostrils almost immediately, removing his best weapon from play, leading to his icy doom moments later.
  • MacGuffin Delivery Service: His Zetsumerise Key is retrieved by Yua before Jin can recover it.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: He is originally named after the late American basketball player Kobe Bryant.
  • Replacement Goldfish: A second Kobe model was commissioned and sent to coach the newly-reformed basketball club after the Mammoth Magia incident, although the new Kobe now has to re-learn how to play basketball from his students.
  • Weapons That Suck: His Exhaler trunk is able to inhale attacks such as Flaming Tiger's flames and throw it back at his opponents.
  • Wham Line: His moment of achieving self-awareness isn't one for the audience, who already know that HumaGears are becoming self-aware, but it is one for Aruto and Fuwa.

    Arsino Magia

Arsino Magia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr01_arsino_magia.png
A Magia with two powerful horns.
Originally an actor HumaGear named Enji Matsuda, he was hacked and given the Arsino Zetsumerise Key by Horobi.
He returns in #23-24, but once again falls under the Ark's influence and decides to serve Gai. Or so we are led to believe. After being found out, Gai forcibly equips him with a ZetsumeRiser and turns him into the Arsino Magia once more.
Horobi hacks a train conductor Humagear to become the Arsino Magia in #42. He was brought back to normal by Aruto Hiden.
  • Animal Motif: It is modeled after Arsinoitherium, an extinct mammal that resembled a rhinoceros (but was more closely related to elephants) due to two giant horns on its snout like those on this Magia's helmet.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: Appropriate for a monster based on a prehistoric rhino.
  • Use Your Head: Their main mode of attack, using the V-Horn on its head.
