Tropes:

General tropes
  • Bigot with a Crush: A character is romantically and/or sexually attracted to a member of a group of people whom they are prejudiced against.
  • Child of Two Worlds: A character is a member of two very different (and often opposed) communities.
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: A character of mixed heritage is discriminated against by one or both of their parents' respective communities.
  • Hiding Your Heritage: A character hides their mixed ancestry.
  • Hybrid Overkill Avoidance: Hybrids can't exist in a setting. Children will be an Either/Or Offspring, a person bitten by a vampire and a werewolf will only become one of those creatures instead of a hybrid.

  • Hybrids Are a Crapshoot: Hybrids are possible, but are deformed or otherwise disadvantaged.
  • Maligned Mixed Marriage: Two people of different groups become romantically involved, and their respective groups don't like it.
  • Mixed Ancestry is Attractive: Being mixed-race or mixed-species is inherently more attractive and exotic.
  • One-Drop Rule: Someone of mixed heritage gets pigeonholed into only being a single category that they belong to.
  • Warring Natures: A child whose parents are members of different groups that are currently at war with each other.

  • Asian Hooker Stereotype: When an Asian woman appears with the sole purpose of being a prostitute.
  • Black Gal on White Guy Drama: Relationships between black women and white men tend to be stigmatized.
  • But Not Too Black: A character who is known to be black, but their skin tone is very pale. This may imply white (or otherwise non-black) ancestry.
  • But Not Too Foreign: A character is foreign/mixed-blood, but has attributes of their native background toned down.
  • The Chief's Daughter: The daughter of a native tribe's leader. She often has a romantic relationship with an explorer from another country.
  • Chocolate Baby: A child doesn't look like either of their parents, suggesting that their real father is someone their mother cheated on her husband with.

  • Latin Lover: Hispanics, Latinos, Spaniards, and Mediterranean people are sexy.
  • Matzo Fever: Someone is sexually attracted to Jews in particular.
