Tropes:
General tropes- Bigot with a Crush: A character is romantically and/or sexually attracted to a member of a group of people whom they are prejudiced against.
- Child of Two Worlds: A character is a member of two very different (and often opposed) communities.
- Half-Breed Angst: Someone with mixed parentage is very personally insecure, because they feel unable to identify with either side of their dual heritage.
- Half-Breed Discrimination: Someone with mixed ancestry is discriminated against by one or both of their parents' respective communities.
- Hiding Your Heritage: A character hides their mixed ancestry.
- Maligned Mixed Marriage: Two people of different groups become romantically involved, and their respective groups don't like it.
- Mixed Ancestry is Attractive: Being mixed-race or mixed-species is inherently more attractive and exotic.
- One-Drop Rule: Someone of mixed heritage gets pigeonholed into only being a single category that they belong to.
- Warring Natures: A child whose parents are members of different groups that are currently at war with each other.
Interracial tropes
Main topic:
- Abandoned War Child: Sometimes (though not always), this character's father was a foreign soldier who had impregnated a local woman during a time of war or military occupation.
- Ambiguously Brown: A character has brownish skin, but their exact ethnicity is not given. Though it's quite possible that they're multiracial.
- Asian Babymama: The male lead discovers he has a child and the mother is an ex who is an "exotic" Asian lady.
- Asian Hooker Stereotype: When an Asian woman appears with the sole purpose of being a prostitute.
- Black Gal on White Guy Drama: Relationships between black women and white men tend to be stigmatized.
- But Not Too Black: A character who is known to be black, but their skin tone is very pale. This may imply white (or otherwise non-black) ancestry.
- But Not Too Foreign: A character has some foreign/mixed-blood, but has attributes of their native background toned down.
- The Chief's Daughter: The daughter of a native tribe's leader. She often has a romantic relationship with an explorer from another country.
- Chocolate Baby: A child looks ethnically different from both of their parents, suggesting that their real father is someone their mother cheated on her husband with.
- Europeans Are Kinky: The stereotype that Europeans tend to be more sexually deviant.
- Fake Mixed Race: Despite their appearance, they're not actually multiracial.
- Faux Interracial Relationship: A couple appear to be in an interracial relationship, but it later turns out they're actually the same race.
- Foreign Fanservice: A foreign character is considered attractive for their exoticness.
- Gentile Jew-Chaser: Someone who finds Jews inherently attractive.
- In the Future, Humans Will Be One Race: In the distant future, all ethnic groups will eventually mix together until everyone looks racially homogeneous.
- Insanely International Ancestry: A character has ancestors that have lived across the world.
- Interracial Adoption Struggles: Parents adopt a child of a different race, struggles or cultural issues ensue.
- Latin Lover: Hispanics, Latinos, Spaniards, and Mediterranean people are sexy.
- Mighty Whitey and Mellow Yellow: White men tend to fall in love with Asian women.
- Multi-Ethnic Name: Can sometimes indicate that a character has a rather diverse cultural heritage.
- Shiksa Goddess: A Jewish character's non-Jewish Love Interest.
- Twofer Token Minority: A character who belongs to multiple minority ethnic groups, while the rest of the cast are unmixed members of the majority ethnic group.
- Where da White Women At?: A black man who has a preference for Caucasian women.
Interspecies tropes

- All Genes Are Codominant: An interspecies hybrid baby ends up getting 50/50 genes, looking like an even mix of both.
- Asian Fox Spirit
- Attractive Zombie: A zombie that is beautiful and sexy.
- Bestiality Is Depraved: Sex with humanoid creatures is okay, but sex with animals is too far.
- Boldly Coming: Humans having sex with aliens.
- Born of Heaven and Hell: A character who's half-angel and half-demon.
- Boy Meets Ghoul: Romance between a mortal and a member of the undead.
- Cargo Ship: A character is jokingly shipped with an inanimate object.
- Cat Girl: Can apply with both males and females as human cat hybrids.
- Cute Monster Girl: She may be a monster, but why does she have to look like something out of an anime?
- Dhampyr: A character who's half-human and half-vampire.
- Did You Just Romance Cthulhu?: Having romantic interests with something... elsely.
- Discount Lesbians: Typically of different species.
- Divine Date: Pursuing romantic interests with a god, goddess, or other divine being.
- Divine Parentage: Someone is the child of a god and a mortal.
- Dominant Species Genes: Cross-species couples have kids of one species.
- Dragon Ancestry: Someone with partially draconic blood.
- Either/Or Offspring: When two species breed, you always get one or the other, never a hybrid.
- Extreme Omnisexual: Someone that that has had—or at least would like to have—sex with other species and/or inanimate objects.
- Fairy Sexy: Attractive fairies.
- Fantastic Arousal: A humanoid alien-type creature gets sexually aroused if someone touches a place that's neither human anatomy, nor their privates.
- Gender Equals Breed: When an interspecies couple have children, the male children look like their father and the female children look like their mother.
- Gorgeous Gorgon: A supposedly terrifying monster is actually a beautiful woman.
- Green-Skinned Space Babe: A beautiful woman with an abnormal skin color.
- Half-Human Hybrid: Half-human heritage mixed with... something else.
- Heinz Hybrid: Part one species, part another species, and part yet another species.
- Hot Skitty-on-Wailord Action: Impossible means of breeding.
- Human-Demon Hybrid: Part human, part demon.
- Hybrid All Along: A character learns that they're a hybrid.
- Hybridization Plot: A plot or motive dedicated to creating a hybrid.
- Hybrid-Overkill Avoidance: Hybrids can't exist in a setting. Children will be an Either/Or Offspring, a person bitten by a vampire and a werewolf will only become one of those creatures instead of a hybrid.
- Hybrid Power: A character with a superpowered parent inherits powers from them.
- Hybrids Are a Crapshoot: Hybrids are possible, but are deformed or otherwise disadvantaged.
- Kiss Me, I'm Virtual: Romance with a virtual person.
- Magical Girlfriend: The love interest of an ordinary man (or less commonly, ordinary woman) who has supernatural powers.
- Mars Needs Women: Nonhuman males finding human women sexually attractive.
- Mayfly–December Romance: Relations between a mortal being and an immortal being.
- Mermaid Problem: The age-old riddle of how getting intimate with a mermaid is possible if they lack external genitalia.
- Monster and the Maiden: A partnership between (usually) a human woman and a non-human man, which can (but doesn't have to be) romantic in nature.
- Nephilim: They're usually some hybrid of human, angel, and/or demon).
- Non-Human Humanoid Hybrid: A being who is a mixture of two different non-human species that still looks humanoid.
- Non-Human Lover Reveal: A plot twist revealing that someone's love interest is not actually human.
- Only You Can Repopulate My Race: A person who's the last surviving member of their race asks someone to mate with them because they're their only chance at preventing their race from going extinct.
- Robosexual: A person is sexually interested in robots.
- Robosexuals Are Creeps: A person dating or screwing robots is creepy.
- Robotic Spouse: A robot built to be someone's artificial husband or wife.
- Seductive Mummy: A mummy that is very alluring and attractive.
- Selkies and Wereseals: Mythological creatures that can become human by removing their seal skin and return to seal form by putting the skin back on.
- Semi-Divine: One parent is human, the other is godly.
- Shapeshifting Lover: A person has a lover or spouse who can shapeshift.
- Speculative Fiction LGBT: LGBT people feature a lot in sci-fi and fantasy.
- Succubi and Incubi: Devils and/or demons that are usually portrayed as sex seekers.
- Succubus in Love: A Succubus falls in love.
- True-Breeding Hybrid: Crossing two species produces a new one.
- Uneven Hybrid: Character with majority ancestry of one species, and minority ancestry of another.
- What Measure Is a Humanoid?: Interspecies Romance is accepted if and only if all participants are human-like.
- You Sexy Beast: Someone has sex with/a crush on/a romantic relationship with a dangerous monster.
