After a 2 year hiatus, the Canadian spin-off returned with massive fanfare. However despite having 2 years to plan, the results were so bad it has broken the argument over the worst season (which has been a contention between 1 and 5). The overall issues has been a culmination of the worst aspects of the past 3 seasons. The tasks were the lowest tier of the entire spin-off with basic and linear tasks that every leg had multiple teams saying they already had experience so this meant in many of these tasks teams had to put in very little effort to complete it. The cast was one of the least competitive ever with only 2 teams of the 10 actually being focused on winning and the edit wanting you to hate them despite being very likable teams in their own right. Their poor handling of COVID meant the first 5 teams to go home were allowed to return and the first two were quickly eliminated again. This, alongside the fact they placed a non-elimination leg in the final 6 despite having 3 legs remaining, made the season come off as almost scared to actually eliminate teams even though it would've made an epic Shocking Elimination that would've changed the course of the game. They put very little focus on the tasks where it was very common to miss that a team actually finished a task with one leg actually intentionally leaving out several teams finishing the birdhouse Roadblock. Instead they focused more on the confessionals which left for a drift of focus from the actual competition itself. An answer sharing alliance formed in the vein of 32 in a vendetta against 1 team for daring to try to win, and the one team who went against the group on one task because it was getting down to the wire, was condemned for it were portrayed as villains despite having no villainous actions whatsoever. The product placement was almost as bad as Asia 5 with Marshall's being brought up almost every leg. The winning team were a team who not only didn't have to run every single leg, but actually only ran a single-digit number of legs which even for those who liked them made it come off as flat out unfair.

Brendan & Connor

Brothers from McDougall, Ontario. Brendan is a Sales Representative, while Connor is an Elementary School Teacher. Though these two may look like your typical alpha male team who despite their struggles with mental tasks at times, they subvert this trope and generally do well at both physical and mental challenges, and they always come out with a positive attitude.

  • Brains and Brawn: Brendan is the brawn to Connor's brains as Connor is a teacher and is actually very smart, while Brendan is more athletically inclined.
  • Cool Teacher: Connor seems like he'd be one with his constant energy and overall positive attitude.
  • Break the Haughty: While not a mean team by any means, they did acknowledge sometimes they can be kind of overconfident. The fifth leg humbled them.
  • Genki Boy: Very energetic guys and the two are grinning from start to finish.
  • Large Ham: Both of them.
  • Nice Guy: Though many of the teams on this race could count do to all being Friendly Enemy, these guys are simply on the race to have fun and their overall positive attitude and outlook on life is a refreshing change of pace from a lot of the This is a Race teams and the I'm Not Here to Make Friends teams fans are used to and gave the express passes to the teams they thought were the kindest to them.
  • No Indoor Voice/Innocently Insensitive: While other teams at least had the common courtesy to keep quiet during the meditation roadblock, these two made it very obvious they finished which ruined the focus of a few teams.
  • Sibling Team: One of three this race.

Catherine & Craig

Best friends and Broadway performers. They are doing the race for Catherine's children, who Craig is their Godfather and best man at Catherine's wedding. They started out the race being pretty clear fan favourites, and having a good angle on the prize, frequently finishing near the top of the pack. However, after their win in Leg 3, they tested positive for COVID-19 and were forced to sit out of the following legs. Thankfully for them, they got over it quick, and ended up coming back in the sixth leg.

  • The Bad Guy Wins: Due to the poor editing of the season, it was an attempt to be an Earn Your Happy Ending with them winning after her bout with cancer, COVID, and beating out their allies who ditched them based on a clue from that exact same task. However, given how they turned the issue of Franella not helping them on one task into a personal issue they would not let got, they came off as less sympathetically than Franella making their win come off this way.
  • The Bus Came Back: They would return two legs later
  • Chekhov's Skill: Craig's high energy and aerobics background got him through the aerobics task and won them the 3rd leg.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Craig practically squealed with delight at the idea of doing a dog trick show. He even said "This is your victory" to the dog when he left.
  • Entitled Bastard: Teams felt so sorry about Catherine's bout with cancer several of them offered to throw the race for them which caused them to develop a complex anyone not willing to help them and run their own race was a pariah.
  • Kick the Dog: They said Franca & Nella deserved to get lost for not helping them during the Roadblock, karma bit them when Franca & Nella nonetheless beat them in the Face off
  • Put on a Bus: Were one of three teams to not return due to testing positive for the COVID-19 virus.
  • Single-Issue Wonk: They would not get over the fact Franella didn't help them on the stamp licking task even past the point it didn't matter anymore

Franca & Nella

Sisters. One of two sibling teams on the race.

  • Bait-and-Switch: Courtesy of Jon, who's been getting used to doing this. As they found out they were in 4th place, Jon told them they normally only do the finale with three teams... only to say this season they were doing four teams to race on finale to the finish line.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Apparently, they both had a dog that trained in agility which helped them in the leg 6 Roadblock.
  • Good with Numbers: Easily figured out the goat roadblock and did very well on the counting roadblock too.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Other teams and Jon call them "Franella".
  • Sibling Team: One of three this race.
  • This Is A Race: In Leg 8, despite being in an alliance with Court & Ali and Catherine & Craig, they decided they didn't want to waste time helping them and focus on their own race.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Started off the race pretty middle or bottom, but by the sixth leg they are only one of two teams to have won more than one leg.

Jesse & Marika

Siblings.

  • Broken Ace: They used to be frontrunners, but the race's pressure has been starting to get to them as they lost their footing a bit and stumbled with challenges they'd normally ace like the animatronic challenge.
  • Paper Tiger: Marika is the more confident of the two, has propelled them into the lead several times, and also the one who breaks down more.
  • Sibling Team: One of three this race.

Beverley & Veronica

Friends. Beverly is a Fitness Entrepreneur and Content Creator and Veronica is a Travel Marketing and Run Club Leader from Toronto, Ontario. They ran a solid race, finishing in the top half mostly but never getting 1st. They were also one of the more cynical teams of the race but had there good moments with each other. In the penultimate leg, they looked to make it into the finale easily but they failure to memorize the words given to them at the obstacle course forced them to be the only team to do it 3 times, causing them to miss the finale and finishing in 5th.

  • Always Second Best: Despite being the most consistent team all season. At least, until leg 4 where they finished second to last even losing to a team that had to complete a speed bump.
  • Break the Haughty: They started getting overconfident on Leg 4, only to fall apart badly that leg. While they were spared from elimination, it has noticeably affected their confidence since. They seem to have recovered by Leg 7, as the shift in focus has been to their 1-on-5 battle with the alliance.
  • Read the Freaking Clue: What did them in as at the obstacle course, they didn't realize they had to memorize what was being said to them which caused them to redo it and letting other teams pass them.
  • This Is A Race: They are noticeably the only team holding this mentality (though Franca & Nella fall into this if these two are involved) as they were the ones not happy Court & Ali and Catherine & Craig returned.

Court & Ali

Dating couple. They struggled in the race, spending most of there time in the back of the pack. After Leg 3, they tested positive for COVID-19 and were forced to sit out of the following legs, but got a second chance to race again thanks to the On-Ramp. They were in an alliance with Franca & Nella and Catherine & Craig but it didn't help them in placements and it was dissolved by leg 8. In Leg 9, they were battling against Brendan & Connor to avoid last place and despite the brothers having a speed bump, Court and Ali's navigation woes were their undoing finish in 6th place.

  • Born Lucky: Both legs they absolutely blew it were superlegs, and they were given a second chance after testing positive for COVID.
  • The Bus Came Back: They would return two legs later
  • Dumb Jock: Both of them have athletic bases careers, but have shown to be less than competent on mental tasks.
  • Put on a Bus: Didn't return for the 4th leg due to testing positive for COVID-19.
  • Shout-Out: While this is likely referencing Court's Indigenous background, they call themselves the bear and bird.

Cedric & Tychon

Father and Son. They took a slow and steady approach which didn't work in their favor most of the time as they either placed in the middle of the pack or were saved by Jully & Kathy blowing it. They seemed to be picking up pace around leg 6. However, in Leg 7, despite being offered the chance to pass Beverley & Veronica, they fell into old habits taking their time at the printing Detour to avoid making any mistakes. Since, Court & Ali had been learning from their mistakes at the sing language task, they were overtaken by the couple coming in 7th place.

  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Were assessed a 2 hour penalty for stealing another team's answer. Fortunately for them that wasn't enough to eliminate them.
  • Chekhov's Hobby: Tychon used to be a mechanic growing up making the plane propeller challenge simple for him.
  • Disqualification-Induced Victory: They would've gone home had Jully not grabbed another teams board by accident.
  • Honor Before Reason: Returned Brendan & Connor's favor by telling the answer to the owl task despite how well they've done. They even helped Beverly and Veronica with the propeller task, when it gave them no advantage to do so.
  • It's the Journey That Counts: Both of them wear tee shirts with a variant of this trope on them. They also say during their elimination they were happy to come so far as father and son.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After several legs of finishing near the bottom, they finally finish in the top three for Leg 6.

Cassie & Jahmeek

Engage couple. They had a very positive attitude but seemed to think that would get them through the race as they were slow at everything and didn't have much of a competitive outlook. Despite a good placement on the first leg, they were considerably behind due to their lack of urgency on the admittedly confusing goat math challenge, but still had a leg on Court & Ali. With the lack of an equalizer, they were relegated to the second bus. They were the only ones on the second bus, everyone else chose the fishing lure task and worked together while they chose the bike task and chose to switch after everyone else had left. Like many of the other tasks they took their sweet time being content with taking several trips to repeat the fishing lures putting them so far behind even Dennis & Durell struggling with directions. But they got their second chance in the following leg due to three teams being unable to continue racing due to testing positive for the COVID-19 virus and while they remained at the back of the pack once more due to an speed bump, they were surprised to find the leg was a non elimination. They continued scraping by until the double elimination leg where Jahmeek struggled with making bath bombs. They had a chance to bypass Court & Ali and Cedric & Tychon, but Cassie forgot several letters and spelled "Samuel Greene" wrong relegating them to an 8th place finish.

  • Bait-and-Switch: During the leg they return in Jon regrets to inform then that because they finished last, this is the end... then proceeds to say "of this leg" and gives the couple a new sense of strength.
  • Born Lucky: While they struggled in the first three legs and were seemingly sent home in the third, they returned for the fourth to replace three teams that tested positive for COVID-19, but they finished last. Jon proceeds to tell them this is the end then pulls out the clue and states "of this leg" and says it's a non elimination leg.
  • Back from the Dead: Were one of two eliminated teams to return after 3 other current teams tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
  • Fatal Flaw: Their lack of urgency.

Dennis & Durell

Uncle & Nephew. They went mostly unnoticed by the cameras for the first few legs, with their removal due to COVID being their only shining moment. They were offered a chance to return, but Court & Ali found the On-Ramp first and since Catherine & Craig were in an alliance with them, they told them the location costing Dennis & Durell their chance at staying.

  • The Bus Came Back: They would return two legs later.
  • Out of Focus: Due to being a low-placing team who kept to themselves they never got much screentime.
  • Put on a Bus: They were one of the three teams taken out of the race due to testing positive for COVID 19. They had a chance to return, but lost to Court & Ali and Catherine & Craig.

Jully & Kathy

Friends. Jully Black is one of the biggest singers in Canada so already had a big name. This showed on the race as she spent most of her time singing or trying to play up the cameras. Kathy played along but being out of shape made her unable to compensate. They would be eliminated in the first episode after missing the theater, but returned after 3 teams caught COVID. They played the same game coming back, and despite that were capitalizing off teams blowing it huge. This was until Jully unwittingly rummaged through another teams box giving them a two-hour penalty sending them home.

  • Back from the Dead: Were one of two eliminated teams to return after 3 other current teams tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
  • Epic Fail: Cedric & Tychon basically handed a chance to be saved from elimination, but Jully accidentally touching another teams board cost them.
  • History Repeats: Both time they were eliminated, Cedric & Tychon were looking to go home, only for a major last minute blunder to send them home instead.
