  • Adaptational Dumbass: The Heathcliff of Wuthering Heights fame was a diabolical chessmaster who brought both the Earnshaw and Linton families to ruin with little more than his mastery at manipulating people. Limbus Company Heathcliff is a relative Dumb Muscle who, while possessing street smarts and a bit of emotional intelligence, prefers to solve problems by beating them with a bat.note 
  • Adaptational Heroism: Because this Heathcliff is lifted from before he returns to Wuthering Heights, he's yet to commit any of his book counterpart's more reprehensible acts, such as abusing Isabella, digging up Cathy's grave, trapping Catherine in his custody, and possibly murdering Hindley. Moreover, the flashbacks to his childhood omit much of his Wild Child habits from the book and vilified Linton to make him the instigator of their feud rather than Heathcliff, both of which make Heathcliff more sympathetic even before his original descent into villainy. Furthermore, while he utterly loathes everyone in Wuthering Heights (besides Cathy and Nelly), he doesn't actually want to ruin their lives the way his original self did, and the extent of his "revenge" was to just make Cathy regret choosing Linton and return to him. The mirror version of him, however, is more in line with his original portrayal, specifically after the novel's Time Skip.
  • All for Nothing:
    • Canto 5.5 shows that even though he nearly doomed his entire team to permanent death for some hair coupons, he doesn't actually gain anything from it because the bus isn't stopping at the port again.
    • Unfortunately, his entire plan to get revenge on Cathy goes down the drain once he realizes the invitation he received to Wuthering Heights was for her funeral.
  • Ambiguous Criminal History: During the Hell's Chicken event, a one-off line from Heathcliff reveals that he was once a member of a Syndicate. Though he never specifies what sort of Syndicate he used to belong to or what work he did with them, the fact that most Syndicates are considered criminal groups indicates that he likely did some dirty work with them in the past. This gets brought up again during an argument with Ishmael in Intervallo II, where he claims to have regularly risked his life working for a Syndicate in the Backstreets. His history gets revealed in full during Canto VI, however, where the Syndicate in question was the Dead Rabbits in T Corp.
  • Ambiguously Brown: His skin is darker than the other sinners, barring Outis having a darker complexion. Interestingly, it should be noted that Heathcliff in the original Wuthering Heights text was described with terms referring to Romani and/or Arab people.
  • Animal Motifs:
    • A slight reoccuring theme regarding Heathcliff is that of rabbits. He has a R Corp. Rabbit Identity, and it is revealed later that his old Syndicate is known as the Dead Rabbits, whom he meets again in Canto VI. It also turns out that his Alternate Self is the one leading them.
    • He also has a theme of wolves and canines. He has an ID wearing the Sunshower EGO, he has access to Telepole (which he was the first to gain and also the first E.G.O available to him other than his base one), and the Wuthering Heights IDs compare him to a wolf and consider their battle against him a "hunt". Canto VI will reveal that many of the people within the manor treat him terribly and like a stray dog, and at the end of Canto VI's Part 2, the Voice takes advantage of his distraught mental state after hearing of Cathy's death and being told by his Alternate Self that he's the cause of Cathy's misery in every world to Distort him into a bestial wolf-like form. Even before that, however, he immediately answers to Ishmael shouting 'Dogs!' note  and gets called a 'mutt' by both Caiman and Hindley, the latter during an argument as children.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other:
    • During Canto III, he declares that while he may like calling Dante "clockface", he doesn't actually look down on them for it, and is furious that Nagel und Hammer is trying to kill them over having a prosthetic head.
    • When Ishmael starts to succumb to Ahab's Gaslighting tactics at the end of the final fight of Canto V and gets covered in pallid membrane, Heathcliff is the one who physically tears her out of it, telling her he understands how she feels and how suffocating it must be. For all their fighting, he does seem to genuinely care about her in his own way.
    • In Canto VI, it turns out that Heathcliff and Catherine never stopped loving each other. However, their inability to communicate with each other honestly and Nelly secretly intercepting Heathcliff's letters kept them apart until it was far too late. However, Heathcliff and Catherine do manage to convey their feelings to each other one last time before Catherine erases herself and all Catherines from existence.
  • Barbaric Bully: On top of being an all-around jerk in general, apparently he has a little extra contempt for Sinclair, the youngest and smallest Sinner, almost certainly because of his rich background. His first meeting with him has him shatter his head with his bat and leave him clinging to life on the floor just for trying to break up a fight between him and Ishmael, and Ishmael later implies that he still hurts him on occasion while trying to rouse Sinclair into putting on an emotional maraca dance, saying to remember all the times Heathcliff trampled over him among other bad memories. It's still the case as of Canto VI, as Sinclair brings up how Heathcliff is prone to punching him if he makes the smallest noise.
  • Batter Up!: Wields a scuffed metal baseball bat as a weapon.
  • Berserker Tears: In the penultimate fight of Canto VI Part 2, you can see that he's openly weeping while thrashing Erlking Heathcliff with Bodysack.
  • Bigot with a Crush: There's precisely one rich person that he doesn't hate on principle, and that's the love of his life, Cathy.
  • Book Dumb: Arguably Subverted. He’s got zero formal education, so the first thing he does when the crew is told their next mission is in K Corp's Nest is complain that he was never told that there were mandatory education requirements for the job. However, he's actually quite clever and quick on the uptake as evidenced by his skills at reading people and figuring things out on the fly, the latter in particular when he opts to stab himself with the Golden Bough to communicate with Catherine's unhoused soul in the climax of Canto VI. Tellingly, he has Identities where his latent intelligence is properly cultivated, such as in the Seven and Öufi Associations.
  • Break Them by Talking: Two-fold in Canto VI. First he has his spirit broken by his Alternate Self telling him how they are responsible for Catherine's death in every Mirror World, and immediately after he's enticed into Distorting by the Voice after articulating his immense self-loathing and despair.
  • Composite Character: If Mirror Heathcliff plays the role of the Heathcliff of the original novel following its Time Skip, then the Heathcliff we know, ironically enough, plays the role of Hareton, Hindley's son whom Heathcliff attempted to mold into a carbon copy of himself to prove that anyone would turn out the same as him if they experienced the same things he did. Strangely enough, though, a young man heavily implied to be the actual Hareton can be seen in one of the Mirror Worlds during Canto VI, complete with a young lady implied to be Catherine II by his side.
  • Covered with Scars: Has scars on his face, neck, and both of his forearms.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: A tragic example. Ultimately, the events of Canto VI occured because Heathcliff was afraid to convey his feelings to Catherine concretely and Catherine was guilty of the same, resulting in them hurting each other through their mutual belief they didn't love the other and causing Catherine to spiral so far into her depression that she begins her experiments in the basement of Wuthering Heights with Hermann's help.
  • Defector from Decadence: Averted. Despite how miserable his childhood was at the otherwise luxurious Wuthering Heights estate due to all the abuse he endured from nearly everyone around him, he ultimately didn't leave out of his disgust for their horrible behavior and treatment of him. Instead, the true cause was that, much like in the original story, he'd overheard Cathy calling him unmarriable and assumed the worst, becoming overwhelmed to the point it was unbearable to stay any longer.
  • Despair Event Horizon: After he kills Erlking Heathcliff, he ends up looking into all the other Mirror Worlds, and sees that throughout all of them, he was the one responsible for causing Cathy to die in misery by leaving her. The horror of this revalation, his own inferiority complex, and the guilt and grief he feels over his Cathy's death come together to push him over the edge, resulting in a conversation with the Voice where he professes his belief that isn't even human and then Distorting immediately after. Fortunately, he manages to recover from said Distortion.
  • Disappointed in You: When he and Ishmael get into a physical altercation during Intervallo II, he ends up dissuading her from bashing his head in with her mace by expressing disappointment in her for turning out to not be any better than him after all, stopping her in her tracks.
  • Dumb Muscle: Again, arguably subverted. His original website description/the official manual describe him as this, but while he's prone to emotional outbursts and prefers to solve solutions simply and through direct violence he's shown to be quite intuitive about certain situations throughout the chapters, being able to deduce the cause(s) of murder when investigating the old L Corp. building in Canto I just from a preliminary glance.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Throughout Canto VI it keeps being said that there is no Mirror World where Heathcliff and Catherine can end up happy. However, both Heathcliff and Catherine catch a glimpse of one Mirror World showing what is heavily implied to be Catherine II and Hareton from the Wuthering Heights novel living happily after both the novel versions of Heathcliff and Catherine have passed away, demonstrating happiness can indeed be found from their relationship and their hearts can connect, even if their own love was never to be. Moreover, despite the Bittersweet Ending of the Canto with Nelly betraying him and losing Catherine completely due to her erasing herself from existence, Heathcliff was finally able to reconcile his relationship with his beloved and understood how much she truly loved him, shedding his self-loathing and insecurity for determination and courage as he sets out to bring her back.
  • Enraged by Idiocy: He was prepared to beat Hong Lu to death with a tenderizer for saying that potatoes grew on trees (he thankfully turned out to be joking.)
  • Extreme Mêlée Revenge: He subjects the Erlking Heathcliff to an extra-long version of his Bodysack E.G.O, with it going on for so long that the damage numbers become random symbols.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite loathing Hindley with every fiber of his being and having very good reasons to, he ultimately can't bring himself to leave him for dead when Josephine tries to kill him, knowing that Catherine still cared for him and would be disheartened if he died in such a way.
  • Flower Motifs: True to his name and source, heath or heather. He borrows its purple color, it's in his sigil and it can be seen on the floor next to him in his base E.G.O art.
    • This comes into play in Canto VI where the entire Wuthering Heights manor from the outside is entirely in dark and dreary colors, yet the heather outside the manor is vibrantly purple. While no one in the cast admits to knowing what they are named, Heathcliff himself gets unusually somber when commenting on them. The ending of Canto VI has him open up to the Sinners enough to name them and explain their nature as a lonely flower that nonetheless never loses its color no matter what calamity it endures, which fits him to a tee.
  • Foreshadowing: His first two given note  E.G.O are Telepole and AEDD. Both are originating from animalistic Abnormalities that are tortured by electricity and are hinted to represent abuse. This foreshadows how he was treated as less-than-human in his past by many.
  • Foundling: Like in the original story, Heathcliff started life as nothing but an abandoned Backstreets child who was brought to Wuthering Heights, seemingly on nothing but a whim and a sense of charity by Mr. Earnshaw.
  • Genre Savvy: By Canto V he seems fully aware of the Character Focus theme of each Canto. When Vergilius confirms their next destination is T Corp, he asks the other Sinners if they had any past there and dismisses Yi Sang when he recalls how he was imprisoned there once due to him already having had a focus Canto. This leads him to conclude that it really is his time to face his past.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: All but directly stated to be one. He Hates Rich People, especially Hong Lu, and makes it clear he really doesn't like when people have power over him, and alludes to him working before as a member of a lower Syndicate. His third skill in his base identity and his base E.G.O Bodysack both being Envy — the only one to be so, in fact — are very telling. His vitriol towards Sinclair specifically seems to come from the younger Sinner being raised to a loving and wealthy family and attending an established university, with his status as a Naïve Newcomer only serving to piss Heathcliff off further in the same way Hong Lu's cluelessness does. This eases up after Canto III, where even Sinners like him and Ryōshū feel bad for him.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: His E.G.O, "Bodysack", involves him thrashing his enemy with a heavy burlap sack wrapped in barbed wire. The name does not leave much to the imagination.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It takes very little to set him off to act violently, which makes him very unreliable as a teammate. Early in Canto I, a single insult to his intelligence from Ishmael causes him to fatally cave in Sinclair's skull when he tries to deescalate.
  • Hate at First Sight: He and Ishmael get into a violent argument and trade insults in what was probably a mere minute after meeting each other, to the point where Heathcliff comes close to smashing her head in at least twice before being stopped; the animosity is still there even later into the game, despite it dying down to casual teases and insults. Their mutual animosity however bubbles up to the surface again in Intervallo II, where Heathcliff butts heads with Ishmael over her neuroticism and fear of the Great Lake bringing everyone down, to the point they get into a violent brawl. Ironically, their mutual animosity and shared thirst for revenge makes them understand each other more than they'd be willing to admit, as demonstrated by Heathcliff's remarks and actions to her in Canto 4.5 and 5, and their Shi Association and R Corp. Identities get along a fair bit better as co-workers/squadmates. He also doesn't like Hong Lu almost instantly upon him speak, given his rich upbringing and infuriatingly naïve and Innocently Insensitive personality.
  • Hates Rich People: Holds this opinion (which shouldn't come off as a surprise given his inspiration). As he puts it in his promotional trailer:
    Heathcliff: Point is, you can't trust the folks who're rolling in it. I hadn't a coin to my name at birth. Yet those damned pigs sniffed out and nicked what they could.
  • He Cleans Up Nicely: One of Heathcliff's primary concerns before Canto VI was the fact that his slovenly appearance would seem off-putting to Catherine as Wuthering Heights was the company's next stop, despite Rodion and Hong Lu offering to give him a makeover and Don Quixote taking him on a (failed) attempt at finding nicer clothes. These fears are assuaged once they get close to Wuthering Heights, as Rodion and Hong Lu make good on their promise to give him a makeover and wardrobe change, transforming him into striking gentleman that even causes Don Quixote to temporarily swoon.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Despite being Dumb Muscle, he knows his violence well — he's able to deduce the exact circumstances that led to bloody conflict with only a glance at the bodies and a single comment from the battle's Sole Survivor.
    • While he's not shown to be a good cook entirely on his own, he has shown some talent (and pride) in being able to help with the preparation of food. During the Hell's Chicken event, he's the only one to receive praise from Meursault for his peeling and preparation of potatoes for their dish.
    • His fight with Ishmael in Intervallo II shows he actually has a low opinion of himself despite his outward rudeness and bluster, calling Ishmael out for being no better than he was when she's about to bash his head in.
    • Because of his history of being viewed as an evil, dumb brute, Heathcliff also responds positively to sincere positive reinforcement, such as the aforementioned praise from Meursault (since Heathcliff likely knows that Meursault is too cold to lie) and the reward kebabs from Vergilius.
    • Miracle in District 20 implies that he didn't loot The Middle's safe in Canto V for no reason, and planned on using Ricardo's hair salon coupon for himself to make him look more presentable for when he returned to Wuthering Heights.
    • When they first arrive at Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff exercises a surprising amount of decorum and respect towards the other attendees of the meeting, despite not getting along with either of them and Hindley specifically antagonizing him in a very loud and obnoxious manner. He states that he's been holding his temper out of respect for Catherine, who disliked such noise, and only drops this pretense when informed of Catherine's supposed death.
  • Human Sacrifice: According to an entry for Doomsday Calendar, it was Heathcliff who was forced to become the Abnormality's blood sacrifice to calm it down, a fact he's none too happy about.
  • Image Song: Through Patches of Violet, which plays during the final battle against Erlking Heathcliff and Every Catherine in Canto VI, and is notably a duet between him and Cathy. The song's first half begins with both of them describing their beliefs that the other is suffering because of them but refusing to articulate their true thoughts to each other, culminating in them blaming themselves and seeking to remove themselves from the other's life, evoking the initial situation between Heathcliff and Cathy and the overall situation for their antagonistic Alternate Selves. However, in the second half, the song instead describes how they could have been wrong all along, both in their beliefs and refusal to communicate with the other, highlighting how both the original Heathcliff and Cathy are able to finally honest with one another, reconciling and repairing their broken bond at last. Tellingly, the first half features the singers not singing the same lines, indicating how they both have the wrong idea of the other, while the second half has them singing together, indicating how this is no longer the case.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Underneath the violent antagonism, Heathcliff has an extremely low opinion of himself thanks to how little feels he had to offer to the world, and on the brink of his Despair Event Horizon, he can barely consider himself human anymore.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: In the observation log for the Peccatulum Irae, he notes being injected with its "red stuff" makes him irrationally short-tempered over little things. When Ishmael adds an addendum noting he is like this normally, his final remark is to warn her not to piss him off.
  • Irony:
    • Between him and Ishmael, he's the more brutish and unstable most of the time. However, their reactions to realizing they're going back to the site of their past traumas have the opposite dynamic. When Ishmael realizes the Company is going to the Great Lake, she has a Freak Out and becomes an obsessive loner who the other Sinners can barely talk to. Meanwhile, when Heathcliff realizes their next stop is T Corp. he actually quiets down and works up the courage to ask the other Sinners for help in looking proper for his return home.
    • Out of the three people listed in Catherine's will, Heathcliff, who feels he's failed in his endevaours to become somebody who Cathy would regret rejecting, is actually the only one there who's actually changed for the better. Hindley is an alcoholic jackass who can't even earn the respect of his own hired men, while Linton is sickly and, though having enjoyed a seemingly happy marriage with Cathy, is still stuck in his old classist attitude, has a lingering resentment about how Cathy still loved Heathcliff, and notably came to his wife's funeral accompanied only by his family's servants. Heathcliff, meanwhile, has found a group of True Companions to be part of and, while still having a lot of work to do, actually recognizes and acknowledges his own flaws.
  • I Will Find You: When its revealed that Catherine had died during his absence from Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff refuses to believe she's dead and sets out to investigate the strange happenings in the manor to find out what happened to her and what she's up to. In the aftermath of Canto VI, with Catherine now erased from all existences due to her plans, Heathcliff is still intent on bringing her back with the Golden Boughs after they reconcile their feelings for each other at last.
  • Jerkass: Violent, disrespectful, and generally doesn't get along with most of the other Sinners.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite being easily aggravated and prone to making jabs at others, Heathcliff is a genuinely good guy. There are many Pet the Dog moments he has in both main story cantos and intervallos both.
  • London Gangster: Along with his rough demeanor and obviously English way of speaking, it's been mentioned at multiple times he used to run with a Syndicate back in T Corp.'s Backstreets, which Canto VI reveals to be the Dead Rabbits.
  • Lower-Class Lout: Hailing from rock-bottom of the Backstreets, Heathcliff is crass, rude, excessively cruel to his teammates, the most vocal member of the team when it comes to jumping straight to violence and telling Dante how little they owe them. He actually does start to get better starting from Canto III, though, where his worst personality traits are lightening up as the team is clearly a fair bit closer than when they started.
  • Mr. Fanservice: For as little fanservice as this game has, much of it goes to Heathcliff. His cleavage-bearing Telepole outfit, as well as his 4th Pack Rabbit bodysuit, make good use of his built body type.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Heathcliff drops the ball big time in Canto V when he steals from a safe that turned to have belonged to the Middle. Once one of their Big Brothers arrives to slaughter them all and they piece together why, the other Sinners waste no time reading Heathcliff the riot act for his act of careless greed.
  • Noodle Incident: What ultimately sparked Heathcliff's running away from his childhood home was him hearing something that Catherine said, supposedly regarding him. This is elaborated on over the course of Canto VI.
  • Odd Friendship: Oddly enough, he seems to be forming something with Don Quixote of all people, who in most cases is The Friend Nobody Likes due to her obsessive Knight Errant behavior. In Hell's Chicken, Don Quixote seems to be the only one immediately concerned rather than amused when the fanged-chicken is on his head, and in Canto IV, even on the brink of death himself, asks for Dante to heal her first and then himself. This is further reinforced by his attempts to comfort Don Quixote after the party arrives at U Corp.'s Lobotomy Corp. Branch in Canto V and finds all of Pilot's crew pallidified. It's oddly sweet, as much as Heathcliff gets, anyway. This relationship continues into Miracle in District 20, where Don brings him on a trip through one of the Backdoors to find him a nice outfit for his return to Wuthering Heights, and Heathcliff is genuinely willing to open up to her about his past and relationship with Cathy.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: During the fight with Erlking Heathcliff, whenever our Heathcliff should be saying anything (i.e when checking on him, when he uses skills/EGO, on a stagger, etc.), he doesn't say anything other than the occasional heavy grunting until the scripted use of Bodysack at the end, and he has a LOT to say during that. This is also the case during the final battle against both Erlking Heathcliff and Every Catherine, highlighting his desperation to not lose his chance to finally fix things with Cathy.
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: In a scene near-identical to the source material, Heathcliff flees Wuthering Heights after overhearing Cathy tell Nelly that it would degrade her to marry him. But he leaves before Cathy can elaborate that neither of them would gain anything from it compared to if she were to marry Linton.
  • Parental Favoritism: As was the case in the original story, Heathcliff wound up earning Mr. Earnshaw's favor over his own biological son, Hindley, to the point he told Hindley as much and considered Heathcliff more of a son to him than he ever could. It was the only thing he could really use to make himself have any sense of worth in the manor and shield himself from Hindley's bullying, though this would only fuel Hindley's hatred towards him and results in his abuse intensifying massively after Mr. Earnshaw passes away.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Despite his generally caustic nature and tendency to not listen to authority, in Canto III, Heathcliff is adamant in his stance that even though he and most of the others don't give Dante much respect, all of them consider Dante a proper person and would never dream of giving them up to the likes of Nagel und Hammer. It's also implied earlier in the same Canto that had Don Quixote not stepped in at K Corp's checkpoint upon seeing a child separated from their family, Heathcliff would have done it. He also becomes very heated about getting a straight answer out of Meursault's loyalties when he figures out the latter worked for N Corp, seemingly disgusted at the idea that Meursault would be willing to carry out N Corp's genocidal agenda if ordered to.
    • This continues through Canto IV. When there's an explosive about to go off, he kicks Gregor away from it, and when several of them do get hurt, including Heathcliff himself, he first points out that Don needs help before talking about his own pain. Keep in mind that, technically, the Sinners can be brought back to life at any time.
    • During Canto V, the Sinners arrive to the L-Corp Branch and find Pilot's team, who had all been eaten and effectively zombified by the Pallid Whale. Don begins to blame herself for not arriving in time to save them, but Heathcliff starts reassuring her that there was nothing they could've done and that it's not her fault for arriving too late. This odd moment of compassion does not go unnoticed by the Sinners, but Heathcliff tries to brush it off.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Just like his novel counterpart, Heathcliff runs away from Wuthering Heights after mistakenly believing Catherine doesn't actually love him. Had he only had the courage to actually talk to her face to face, the misunderstanding between them could have been completely avoided.
  • Revenge: In a similar fashion to Ishmael, Heathcliff is primarily driven by a desire for revenge, if the large "REVENGE" written on his bat didn't clue you in. Unlike Ishmael, however, his vengeance isn't as straightforward or wrathful as her vendetta against Ahab, whom she wanted desperately to kill — instead, Heathcliff's vengeance is far more spiteful and envious in nature, as he primarily wants to make Cathy regret ever deciding to choose Linton over him, even if he has the wrong idea about her intentions.
  • Riches to Rags: He used to live in District 20's Nest, but fled to pursue his own fortune after Cathy chose to marry Linton instead of him.
    • Rags to Riches: With all other viable heirs dead, Heathcliff becomes the new master of Wuthering Heights. However he's still contracted to Limbus Company, so he doesn't stay for long before it's back to the bus for him.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: In the aftermath of Canto VI, he, Dante, and Demian are the only ones who still remember who Catherine is, after her erasure from existence causes everyone else to forget who she is.
  • The Runaway: Holds this status from Wuthering Heights, as after a childhood rife with abuse and bullying, he reaches his last straw where Cathy calls him unmarriable and he thinks she doesn't love him.
  • Self-Made Man: He wants desperately to be one, but hasn't had much success by the time he was recruited into Limbus Company.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: After his Character Development throughout Canto VI makes him realize how badly he had messed up by abandoning Cathy and refusing to try and repair their relationship due to his own fear and insecurities, he's dead set on doing things right this time and making up for his past mistakes by summoning the courage to finally talk to Cathy and reconcile with her — and he does.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: He tends to speak in a mixture of English phrases, bloody threats, and blunt swears.
  • Stock British Phrases: He tends to use English phrases regularly, so much so that it’s instantly obvious that it’s him writing whenever you open an Abnormality Report when it’s otherwise meant to be ambiguous.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Heathcliff grows to pity Hindley as he dies, coming to understand that he was at his core a deeply lonely and insecure individual who wanted Mr. Earnshaw's approval more than any material thing.
  • Telephone Polearm: His Telepole E.G.O. is Exactly What It Says on the Tin, with Heathcliff using an uprooted electrical mast in place of his bat to bludgeon enemies with.
  • Too Dumb to Live: For some reason Heathcliff thought stealing from the vault of a hideout belonging to one of the Five Fingers was a good idea, and his only real excuse for carrying it out was because he didn't know the tastes of the one who owned the safe.
  • Too Much Alike:
    • This with Ishmael in spades. Both are from English works, both utilize the only blunt weapons on the team save for Meursault and his gauntlets, and both are greatly characterized by their desire for revenge, whether it's Heathcliff's disdain for the wealthy or Ishmael's obsession with finding and killing a certain entity. This is only strengthened in Intervallo II after Ishmael becomes a neurotic paranoid mess and nearly kills him, shutting her down completely just by saying he was a fool to expect her to be different from him, which considering Heathcliff's own problems with himself, is hardly a compliment. Later in Canto V, after Heathcliff tears her out of the Pallid Membrane he says he recognized this from the moment they met and how it was suffocating her.
    • In Canto VI, he reflects that in some ways, he's very similar to both Hindley and Linton. Like Hindley, Heathcliff has deep insecurities about being accepted by others, and often lets his temper get the best of him so he resorts to violence as his default method of solving problems. Like Linton, he has a deep love for Catherine that is almost borderline obsession that makes him willing to do anything to earn Catherine's attention and approval. However, unlike the both of them, Heathcliff proves that he can overcome his faults and become a better person for it.
    • This is also ultimately the root of his and Catherine's issues. The two of them both absolutely love each other, but both have trouble actually being able to say that outright to each other. When this causes them to split apart, they both end up blaming themselves for making the other miserable in the aftermath, unable to recognize that all they needed to do was just talk to each other. In every other Mirror World, this ends up creating a cycle of one of them suffering some variety of Death by Despair which leaves the other in complete misery and self loathing. This is reflected in their duet Image Song during Canto VI's finale, where two voices sing out the exact same lyrics about how they're at fault for their loved one's suffering.
  • Tragic Mistake: One he apparently makes in multiple Mirror Worlds no less; not staying to listen after he overhears Cathy talking about how she's going to marry Linton over him, or at least talk to her instead of immediately leaving. As a result, neither of them ever gets the chance to say how much they loved the other, and in every Mirror World this damns each one to a life of misery blaming themselves for the other's state. Our Heathcliff ends up being the first to break the cycle when he sees a vision of the full conversation in Canto VI, and though Cathy is forced to erase herself from every reality afterwards to stop the cycle for good, the two of them finally are able to properly communicate how much they mean to each other.
  • Tranquil Fury: It’s actually out of character that he’s only muttering in abject anger when the shopkeeper in Canto II insults the quality of his rusty ring, given Heathcliff rarely shies away from a violent outburst. With the implication being that the ring is a keepsake from Cathy, it’s a surprise that he held himself back from brutalizing the man.
  • When All You Have Is a Hammer…: All three of his stock skills simply involve Heathcliff slugging the crap out of enemies with his bat in different ways instead of resorting to gimmicks or superhuman abilities like his teammates, and even his basic E.G.O. is still just him using a bodybag to do so in its place.

Identities

R Corp. 4th Pack Rabbit

A version of Heathcliff that joined R Corp. and was integrated into their Rabbit Squad.
  • Ax-Crazy: This Identity, as shown in his story, is obsessed with killing; it's unclear whether the reason is his own bloodlust, side effects of his Rabbit augmentations, the Rabbits' Shoot Everything That Moves policy, or all of it.
  • Bottomless Magazines: Averted big time. Like all Ammo-based Identities, he only gets 13 Ammo per battle, which don't refill between waves. Given the high amounts of coins across all of his skills, you'll be lucky to make it two waves without him running out. Mercifully, though, he can still clash even if he's out of ammo, and it doesn't affect his ability to perform the attacks that don't involve him shooting anything.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: The Rabbit Team is all about speed, quickly taking out the enemy and then leaving as soon as they came. Similarly, this Identity is the best at short battles like in Mirror Dungeons due to his limited amount of ammo, and needs to be on or above 6 Speed to use his third skill at maximum power.
  • More Dakka: On account of his skills having three coins at minimum, this version of Heathcliff can and will use his rifle to dump lead into enemies, though he's also quick to whip out a combat knife.
  • Obvious Rule Patch: Every skill of his is backloaded with at least one coin that have him use his knife instead. This comes in handy when he's out of ammo, making sure his offensive ability isn't completely nullified. The only skill that has him generate Charge also involves his knife instead of his gun, which also has the additional benefit that, should the skill lose with its first two coins, he can still generate Charge if the third one doesn't lose.
  • Super Mode: Getting the required amount of Charge and activating his Passive will give him Haste and Attack Power Up, which also puts on his Rabbit helmet for the remainder of the fight (which also puts a filter over his voicelines).
  • Throwing Your Gun at the Enemy: In his uptie cutscene, Heathcliff is mentioned throwing his firearm at his foes the moment all his ammo is spent. It's apparently so hot after use that it sets them on fire.

Shi South Section 5

A version of Heathcliff that joined the Shi Association. Notable for making up his poor stealth with his considerable skill at killing.
  • Bad Moon Rising: He mentions observing a red moon for the first time while doing his work. He doesn't see it as much any sort of bad omen, though; in fact, he claims he fell in love with the sight when he first saw it.
  • Highly-Visible Ninja: Ironically for an assassin, he hates stealth. His argument is that if everybody who saw him is dead, he's still successfully pulled off a stealth mission.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Uses one as with other Shi Association members, though despite the connotations that come with wielding such a weapon, he's still as brutish as usual.
  • Leave No Witnesses: Due to his lack of skill in stealth, this is Shi Heathcliff's philosophy: so long as no one is alive to talk after a job, there's technically no witnesses.

N Corp. Kleinhammer

A version of Heathcliff that joined N Corp. and the Nagel und Hammer.
  • Brainwashed: A victim of this, as his story reveals that new recruits to Nagel und Hammer's cult are given drugged rations, making it easier to indoctrinate them to their fanaticism. Heathcliff finds the rituals headache-inducing and weird, but their tactics are starting to take their hold on him.
    Leading Inquisitor: Now the chant: "Heretics-"
    Heathcliff: "-shall be purged." Huh? What did... I just say?
  • Despair Event Horizon: Crossed it by the present, having fled his home after something "Cathy" said to him and finding himself in Nagel und Hammer's ranks, and is now deeply sullen and miserable.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: N Corp. Heathcliff's passive causes him to take a deep SP hit should an ally be staggered or killed around him, but also a huge Blunt damage buff (starting on the next turn) to demolish his enemies and avenge his fallen comrades.

Lobotomy E.G.O::Sunshower

A version of Heathcliff that joined a group of anti-technologist terrorists and was given a Lobotomy Corp. E.G.O for combat.
  • Breaking Old Trends: One of the first Identities with a multi-coin defense skill, here applied to his Counter.
  • Decomposite Character: Copies the first of Dongbaek's two boss fights, with the second getting represented by Yi Sang's Spicebush E.G.O.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Aside from being the second identity with coin tosses that favor hitting Tails, his playstyle revolves around lowering his sanity by his skills that apply Sinking to himself and either using his counter (which is the first one to have more than one coin) to force hits on himself while still dealing damage or letting his sanity tick down manually through his passive.
  • Situational Sword: Due to the above. Similarly to N Corp Sinclair, his sanity needs to be ticked down manually but instead of having skills that directly do so on use like Sinclair does, his applies Sinking to himself (and to others) with his skills and passive to encourage him to be hit so that the Sinking can do its work and gain a Blunt damage buff. While this is usually quite difficult to pull off due to the innate drive of sanity to go up, especially in short fights like in the Mirror Dungeon where sanity carries over, it really allows him to shine in his own chapter, Canto VI, where the bulk of the stages give him a 'Bereavement' effect which causes him to continuously lose SP in exchange for an offensive buff. This particular Identity is also a good choice in the fight against Heathcliff's mirror version, where, in addition to having said effect, he is also resistant to Blunt and can more easily go toe-to-toe with the boss once his sanity is at a good point due to it being a more drawn-out fight, not to mention the boss even has a special buff that reduces the attacker's SP with each hit.

Seven South Section 4

A version of Heathcliff working for the Seven Association.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: As a Seven Association Identity, he gets bonuses from dealing 'Weak' or 'Fatal' damage to an opponent and has the ability to inflict Rupture.
  • Call-Back: Just like in Canto I, he's able to look at a crime scene and reconstruct what happened.
  • The Profiler: His Story mentions that he's considered this by the Seven Association due to his ability to analyze a crime scene and figure out what happened.
  • Sherlock Scan: Averted. In his Story, Heathcliff mentions that what he does isn't a detective analysis that you'd see in a story, and is instead him mostly running on gut instinct and hunches.

The Pequod Harpooneer

A version of Heathcliff serving as Harpooneer on the Pequod.
  • Breaking Old Trends: He's the first Identity to have two offensive skills of the same affinity, Envy in his case. He's also the first Heathcliff Identity to have a Pride skill.
  • Expy: Of Queequeg, even inheriting her penchant for slashing speech.
  • Fan Disservice: Heathcliff is a very muscular man, and this Identity has his muscles on full display. On any other Identity, this would be appealing to the eye, but when he's digging a knife into his own skin and ripping off his tattoos, it wraps around to being horrifying.
  • Pain & Gain: Just like the Shi Section Identities (which incidentally, Heathcliff also has an Identity of), this Identity becomes more powerful at less HP. The difference is that the offensive power gained scales inversely to how much HP is remaining instead of activating at a certain threshold, as well as the Support Passive giving the highest-health ally a weaker version of the same mechanic.

Öufi Association South Section 3

A version working for the Öufi Association, specifically South Section 3.
  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Heathcliff states that Öufi weapons are tailored and specialize in amputations. Given how hard it can be to slice through bone, the glaive he uses must be quite sharp.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Wears a fancy getup in line with the Öufi's standard uniform, along with being in Section 3 which is relatively high for an Association.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: In his uptie story, the narrator notes that even though they tend to wear "gaudy" outfits, there are many rumors about the Öufi that they'll track down people to the ends of the earth in order to execute a contract. This applies to Heathcliff as well, as the narrator states that while he may not look like he's fit for the work, he's very expertly reading into and going over the clauses of a contract.
  • Foreshadowing: His uptie story states that Öufi Association Fixers are shown to have halberds as standard weaponry. In Canto VI, the Öufi Director and related Fixers instead have spear-like brushes, tipping off to the fact that they are actually researchers of the Ring. This extends to their lenience as well, as Heathcliff only gave one warning.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: This version of Heathcliff stands out with a unique status effect that he can inflict with his third skill, Amplitude Conversion, which works by converting the target's accumulated Tremor into a special variant called Tremor - Decay, which functions similarly to regular Tremor but with the added effect of lowering the target's defense level at the end of the turn. To top it all off, he can only burst Tremor about once per enemy/body part, and only if it has unconverted Tremor.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Sports a deep purple outfit with silver and lighter purple highlights. Lavender trails are left behind from his weapon when he attacks as well.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: In his death line Heathcliff states that even though his enemies have killed him here, the Öufi will keep sending fixers after them until the contract has been fufilled.

  • Anchors Away: Ishmael's Roseate Desire EGO attack shows her lobbing a full sized metal anchor tied to a pink ribbon at her target. Blind Obsession has her combine this with BFS, wielding a serrated anchor bigger than she is.
  • Arc Symbol: Canto V's story dungeon gives her a major rope motif, as many of the E.G.O. Gifts that can be obtained are based on ropes (two of them benefitting Ishmael), and the flashbacks reveal that her headband itself is made from a rope, one woven by Queequeg, Ishmael's closest friend.
  • Ax-Crazy: The fact that she's able to keep herself together for so long is surprising considering how hard she snaps by Canto V. She tortures and kills several Twinhook pirates as they bargain or otherwise beg for their lives, and she actively goes against Dante's wishes just to try and kill Smee.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: She wanted more excitement in her life than just wasting away her days behind a desk. How does barely surviving an encounter with one of the Five Calamities and then joining a Fixer organization where you'll die dozens of times over sound?
  • Berserk Button:
    • Do not waste time, especially her own. She's much more reserved about it than most, but it's a consistent thing with her and her Identities she does not take kindly to her or her colleagues not doing their jobs.
    • Taking anything to do with The Great Lake lightly, owing to her traumatic voyage and the general dangers of the Great Lake itself.
  • Body Horror: At one point during Canto IV, she ends up Taking the Bullet for Dante to block acidic ampules being launched at them. This proceeds to melt down Ishmael's limbs rapidly, leaving her as a head and torso with an expression of accepting her imminently horrible death, and Dante immediately moves to rewind her despite the pain it causes them before it can spread further.
  • Broken Bird: The entire experience she had with Ahab and the Pallid Whale is such a completely and utterly traumatizing thing for Ishmael that the mere suggestion of returning to the Great Lake has her personality 180 before Canto V has even started, and she gradually breaks further and further as the arc progresses, even becoming temporarily Ax-Crazy before a flat out Despair Event Horizon. It takes a lot to finally start mending her mind.
  • Busman's Vocabulary: She peppers some of her sentences with sailing terms.
  • Character Development: By the end of Canto V, she has decided to let go of her all-consuming hatred, chart her own life without obsessing over a past she can not change, and put her faith in a new "captain" and "crew" by accepting Dante and the Sinners as both equals and her friends.
  • Consummate Professional: Ishmael makes it clear she expects efficiency and rational decision-making from Dante, taking her and others' jobs seriously and getting annoyed when time is being wasted or her expectations for her coworkers are let down. Likely it's for this reason she considers herself the Only Sane Man of the group with how eccentric most everyone else aboard Mephistopheles is, on top of being very liable to throwing their plans for the day into jeopardy.
  • Cruel Mercy: She ultimately decides to spare Ahab's life, using her harpoon to kill the Pallid Whale instead, depriving Ahab of the satisfaction of killing it herself.
  • Cycle of Revenge: She wants revenge on Ahab, who wants revenge on the Pallid Whale. Dante spells it out to her after defeating Ahab that her journey is going in circles, which helps her realize that she needs to let her murderous grudge go.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The focus of Canto V, delving into her past on the Pequod and its crew and focusing on her confronting her self-destructive mental state and choosing to be greater than Ahab and let go of her hatred.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has a habit of interjecting with sarcastic comments in response to the rest of her co-workers' antics.
  • Death or Glory Attack: Relatively speaking, her fighting style uses only single coin skills that has her wind up some pretty heavy mace attacks and shield bashes, meaning she can reach some pretty high numbers for a base identity but has just as good a chance to roll low for considerably less damage, and by extension makes her unwieldy in clashes.
  • Disappointed in You: After Dante helps botch the casino heist in Canto II with the screw-up with the slot machine, Ishmael's opinion of them nosedives, and by the beginning of Canto III she's become more assertive in order to make up for their perceived incompetence.
  • Double-Edged Buff: Her Canto V-exclusive status effect, Compulsion, locks Ishmael's starting SP to -25 instead of either the usual 0 in Story stages, and prevents any SP she gains in the Canto's dungeon to carry over with each battle stage. As a tradeoff, Ishmael is given 3 Attack Power Up, which increases how much damage she can still deal.
  • Elemental Motifs: Water. Her base E.G.O art showcases her in a room flooding with water, and when she attacks the enemy with the E.G.O attack, an explosion of water can be seen in the animation when she hits the enemy. She's also noted to have returned from a long voyage at sea, and her base Identity art has a stormy backdrop.
  • Fiery Redhead: She sports a massive mane of orange-red hair, and while not as energetic or loud as other examples of this trope, she’s known for her foul and aloof attitude when her already rather limited patience is tested, especially for her own crew and Dante whom she’s regularly critical of.
  • Freudian Excuse: Like the rest of the Pequod's crew, Ishmael was drawn in by Ahab's almost hypnotic charisma and didn't realize until it was far too late how hopeless and insane their quest to kill the Pallid Whale was. She vowed to never make the same mistake concerning blind loyalty again, hence why she's so hard on Dante.
  • Hate at First Sight: She and Heathcliff really didn't like each other initially, and they're both ready to kill the other a minute after meeting for the first time, her aloof personality and tendency to openly insult others nearly triggering Heathcliff's temper into shattering her head twice. By contrast, her Shi Association and 4th Pack Identities get along much better with his, with one of her Shi Identity window dialogues even being to compliment him on his abilities. This weird relationship seems to be recognized as they have a trend of their promotional images being posted back to back, including their full body pictures, their promotional videos note , them sitting very close to each other on the bus, and their numbers directly following each other.
    • The two are not too different than they would like to admit, as they both are the only two to wield blunt weapons and both of their original stories are written in English.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Ishmael becomes ruthlessly pragmatic when faced with the opportunity to track down Ahab, who dragged her and the rest of their crew along on an insane revenge quest against the Pallid Whale that ended in everyone but Ishmael dead. That she's basically doing the same thing with the Sinners doesn't cross her mind. She does eventually realize what she's doing and ultimately spares Ahab, refusing to go down the same path as her.
  • Hidden Buxom: Fitting fixer attire, most of her identities wear layered suits or armour, with her LC outfit making her appear flat chested most of the time. The Boatworks Fixer ID art makes it very clear that she isn't.
  • If You Kill Him, You Will Be Just Like Him!: Ishmael is driven to an Ax-Crazy frenzy by her obsessive desire to kill Ahab, very similar to Ahab's own fanatical revenge quest against the Pallid Whale. This is to the point that when the two form an Enemy Mine to kill the whale and end up Laughing Mad in unison, Dante is unable to distinguish whose laughter belongs to who. By the end of the chapter, Dante convinces her that she doesn't need to bind herself to Ahab any longer, and she instead uses the harpoon she had been saving for her to instead pierce the Pallid Whale's heart, breaking free from Ahab's influence while also denying her her one life's goal.
  • Image Song: Compass, which plays during the final battle with Captain Ahab in Canto V, is sung from her perspective, and its lyrics are concerned with how Ishmael wants to break free from her obsessive grudge against Ahab instead of letting it consume her, and be free to chart her own course without her old Captain's influence.
  • I Will Find You: In her promotional video, she mentions that she's "Been flitting obsessively from office to office" in search of somebody, presumably Ahab (The mad captain of the ship in 'Moby Dick').
    • Her base EGO attack also references her dogged determination in tracking someone down. As before she throws her harpoon she declares that someone has to still be alive.
    • Intervallo II also clarifies this further, in that she does not only want to find whoever she's looking for, she also wants to kill them.
    • Upon reaching the L Corp facility in Chapter 5, she outright confirms that her target is her former captain, and she clings on to the hope that she's still alive so she can make her pay for getting their crew wiped out.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: With the strain of her past consuming her, she becomes blunt, harsh, and downright rude at times throughout Canto V, talking down to the Sinners for lack of experience and disrespecting Dante over all her issues with them as manager. While she rightfully comes to regret the unpleasant things she does and says, her justification the Sinners were not ready for the Great Lake is proven right at almost every turn of their voyage, and she independently saves them all from death with her seafaring skills.
  • Just One Little Mistake: Her experience with this trope is her reason for her admitted intolerance for mistakes.
    Ishmael: In my previous occupation, a tiny mistake could compromise all of our safety. My sensitive tendencies come from that experience.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Carries a large, manhole cover-shaped shield that's also used as a bludgeon in certain attacks.
  • Mask of Sanity: Ishmael seems like the Only Sane Man, but her facade comes apart in the lead-up to Canto V and beyond, showcasing that she's in truth violently insane — At least as far as her desire for vengeance against Ahab is concerned.
  • Motor Mouth: Dante notes in the K Corp immigration line that when Ishmael gets anxious, she tends to become a chatterbox and speaks much more quickly than normal.
  • Never Bareheaded: Ishmael is shown to wear a particular braided headband in her hair across all her known identities so far. Her default Identity and her R Corp Identity both have a version embellished with white bows, though her Shi Association Identity lacks them and only has the bare headband. In Canto V it's revealed to be made out of a rope she and Queequeg made together.
  • Not So Above It All: In the 2023 April Fool's event, a brief quote from Vergilius notes that Ishmael apparently attempted to fix Dante's malfunction by hitting their prosthetic with something until it worked again.
    • Then during the Hell's Chicken event, when Faust agrees to go along with defeating the Distorted owner of Eunbong's, Ishmael is so shocked to think Faust may actually want to help for free chicken (until she learns the real reason) that she's prepared to bash Faust in the head with her weapon to bring her back to her senses. Then later, she scolds the other members of her team for just backseat cooking and not doing anything to actually help Sinclair, who was put in charge of their dish for that round. While not doing anything to actually help herself besides telling the others they should also be helping.
    • Gets a couple more in Canto IV. For example berating Heathcliff for not knowing about a piece of technology used by the Liberation Alliance, only for Faust to imply that she is only pretending to know herself. Judging by her reaction, this is spot on.
  • Oh, Crap!: Shares this reaction with Dante when they realize the Tingtang Gang just set off Don Quixote's Chronic Hero Syndrome.
  • Only Sane Woman: Considers herself to be this among the Sinners. When she's in a good mood, she's willing to extend this role to Dante and/or Faust as well. Canto V reveals this to be far from the truth.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Discovering that the company is heading for U Corp. next renders Ishmael such a paranoid, uncooperative mess that even Vergilius can barely keep her under control. Dante catches a glimpse of what she experienced and realizes that whatever's out in the Great Lake, Vergilius scares her only slightly more.
  • Percussive Maintenance: If the events released so far are anything, she has penchant for this.
    • In the 2023 April Fool's event, Vergilius tells Ishmael off for trying to fix Dante's clock by hitting it.
    • She plans on doing the same to Faust in the Hell's Chicken event when Faust agrees to do a mission for a random person in exchange for a lifetime pass for free chicken. She's relieved that she didn't need to do so when Faust clarifies that she agreed to it due to the mission being connected to the Distortion Phenomenon.
  • Pet the Dog: Canto III forces her more caring side to emerge as a result of all the horror the Sinners are exposed to. She reassures Sinclair that Kromer and her lackeys are nothing but lunatics who don't deserve any form of acknowledgement whatsoever, and gets angry on Dante's behalf when the Inquisitors downplay Dante's humanity on account of their prosthetic head, being shocked that they're able to brush it off with a joke.
  • Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure: By the end of Chapter 4.5, she's soured towards Dante all over again, made her relationship with Heathcliff even worse, gotten into Vergilius's crosshairs, and made the rest of the Sinners wary of her as well all because of how adamant her refusal to go back into the Great Lake is.
  • Properly Paranoid: For how cold and distant she gets about returning to the Great Lake, it turns out she absolutely had a point of how non-sensible and dangerous it could be. Her experience as a sailor ends up saving the entire Company from several deadly scenarios throughout Canto V. Even her obsessive preparation over the Pallid Whale ends up actually paying off, as she has such a good plan for taking it down that the Indigo Elder actually agrees to help the Sinners in pulling it off.
  • Read the Freaking Manual: To Ishmael's shock and disappointment, it becomes clear by Canto IV that she's the only one reading the orientation pamphlets provided by the Company on the districts they enter.
  • Rebuilt Pedestal: Dante manages to stop Ishmael from taking her revenge out on her former Captain, instead convincing her to kill the Pallid Whale; this ultimately convinces her to soften up on the Manager after seeing them bumble through Canto II, saying that she'll be their loyal (if always questioning) First Mate to Dante's Captain.

  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: As one of Limbus Company's Sinners, and thus one of the main characters of the story, her green eyes and mane of long red hair make her stand out significantly even among the colorful cast of characters she's grouped together with.
  • Sole Survivor: She wonders if she was truly the sole survivor of her disastrous voyage across the sea in her promotional video. Said video then mentions that she's in search of other possible survivors. While Canto V shows that the rest of the Pequod's crew "survived" within the Pallid Whale, though partially corrupted by its Pallidification and completely under the thrall of Ahab's Gaslighting, the Captain rapidly makes sure that by the end, only she and Ishmael are the only remaining survivors of the ship, while Ahab herself is completely broken by Ishmael killing the Whale instead of her.
  • Soul-Crushing Desk Job: She joined Ahab's crew to escape a comfortable, but dreadfully unfulfilling corporate job in the Nest.
  • Story And Gameplay Integration:
    • She starts every stage of Canto V with a status effect that increases attack power but reduces sanity, representing her increasingly violent behavior as she's forced back onto the Great Lake.
    • Following the ending of Canto V, the dialogue for using her Snagharpoon E.G.O. changes, reflecting how she not only found Ahab alive after all, but also gave up her revenge and developed past her own obsession.

  • Too Much Alike: This with Heathcliff. Both are from English works, but also both are motivated by revenge ultimately. This is only strengthened in Intervallo II where, after turning into a neurotic and paranoid mess after learning they were going into the Great Lake and nearly bludgeoning Heathcliff to death after an argument, Heathcliff remarks that "I was a fool to think you'd be any different than me". Considering how Heathcliff thinks about himself and how Ishmael started avoiding the group afterward, neither of them took it well.
  • Tough Love: Her reasoning for why she can be so critical to Dante in specific, allegedly, with a dash of Nothing Personal. Considering her previous boss, Ahab, led the rest of her crew to their deaths and Ishmael failed to realize how insane their quest was because she was just as enraptured in Ahab's charisma as the rest, she has a good reason to not blindly trust leadership.
    Ishmael: Just to be clear, the remarks I say to you are meant to assist you to ensure the success of our mission. I'm not just saying them with hard feelings towards you.
  • Trauma Button: Whatever happened to Ishmael on The Great Lake that led her to joining Limbus Company, it's obvious that the trauma of it still affects her greatly. She reacts so badly to the notion of going back in that she even tries to talk her way out of it by saying they should be training for at least six months before trying. Her breakdown gets so bad that she instigates a fight with and nearly bludgeons Heathcliff's head in before he manages to snap her out of the worst of it. And even after this, she seems to emotionally shut down completely. With Dante catching a glimpse of visions of her time on the ocean facing a great white whale.
  • Weapon-Based Characterization: Picks up a harpoon at the start of Canto V, coinciding with her Sanity Slippage as the chapter progresses.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Ishmael is correct that the Sinners are a Dysfunction Junction led by a questionably competent manager. The part she's wrong about is herself being the Only Sane Man (that role usually goes to Gregor), when she's in reality barely sane and almost completely flies off the handle in Canto V, flying into an even greater murderous frenzy than even Ryōshū or Heathcliff are shown to be capable of.

LCCB Assistant Manager

A version of Ishmael who joined the LCCB instead of the twelve Sinners.
  • Composite Character: According to how her files are named, this Identity has her live Saude's life.
  • Due to the Dead: One of her post-uptie chats laments that her old teammates aren't given a proper burial.
  • Is This Thing Still On?: In her extra condition voice line Ishmael realizes she accidentally commented on how her performance could earn her a medal over the comms.
  • Knee-capping: Will pull her handgun down in a combo to blast out the knees of human enemies, fitting of her enforcement combat style.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Unlike her base Identity, this version of Ishmael carries a ballistic shield instead.
  • Never My Fault: Losing a stage has her comment on the plan was flawless and the fault clearly lies elsewhere.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Rodion's red. She's very meticulous about planning, almost to the point of obsession. This puts her at odds with the more reckless Rodion.
  • Shield Bash: The animation for most of her skills have Ishmael rushing the enemy with her shield before either knocking them down or shooting them with her pistol.

R Corp. 4th Pack Reindeer

A version of Ishmael that joined R Corp., with her being integrated into the Reindeer Squad.
  • Artificial Stupidity: Due to the nature of the Charge mechanic and the random targeting of her Mind Whip, an AI-controlled Ishmael will use said ability as soon as possible if left on auto battle without accumulating stacks first, often resulting in devastating friendly fire that can cost you the whole run. As a result, this is one of a handful of Identities that absolutely require direct attention from the player even if combat is automated.
  • Horned Humanoid: This version of her comes with a huge pair of bioluminescent antlers. Due to her Power Incontinence, they also crackle with destructive energy, and Ishmael herself even warns Dante to tell everyone to evacuate should her horns start vibrating for some reason.
  • Mind Rape: In two degrees. R Corp's Reindeer agents are shown to be mentally unstable and whatever augments they receive are not good for their heads. This is no different for Ishmael, who suffers from such severe headaches that she dry swallows painkillers like candy. On the flipside, the Reindeer squad is notorious for psychological damage in the most literal sense, their weapons dealing heavy mental damage to their victims, which is translated to Ishmael being able to inflict the Sinking status effect with this identity.
  • Powerful, but Inaccurate: Woefully inaccurate, to be precise. Her Mind Whip is a five-hit combo that does obscene amounts of Blunt damage that can demolish most tough enemies in a single use, but unless the player actually had Ishmael collect 10 stacks of Charge (8 in Uptie 4) with her other skills, its targeting will be absolutely random, meaning that it can hit (and potentially stagger or even kill) friendlies instead.
  • Power Incontinence: Due to what is presumably the cause of her constant splitting headaches, Ishmael cannot fully control how her powers are exerted. During gameplay, this is represented by the chance to randomly target a friendly unit when using Mind Whip without accumulating 10 Charge (or 8 on Uptie 4) first, as Ishmael herself seems to be blind firing it judging by her character sprites during this skill's animation (As a particular note, players should be mindful with the Win-rate/Damage auto battle selections, as it will NOT take into consideration if Ishmael has the enough charge or not to use Mind Whip safely.)

Shi South Section 5

A version of Ishmael that joined the Shi Association.
  • Critical Hit Class: All of her skills (including her counter at uptie IV) give poise or poise count, and at high enough poise count both her skill 3 and counter get a 50% damage boost if they crit.
  • Heal Thyself: Skill 3, if it crits with low enough health.
  • Pain & Gain: Her (and the other Shi identities') main gimmick. All of her skills get a boost to some property if she is at low enough health. Most notably her skill 2 doubles in coin count, making it extremely strong for both clashing and dealing damage.
  • Recruited from the Gutter: Spent her time as a fixer before being recruited by the Shi Association doing dangerous low rank jobs most wouldn't want to do, with her letter of recruitment coming in after her previous job ends with her almost dying and waking up in a hospital.

Lobotomy E.G.O::Sloshing

  • Butt-Monkey: In her identity story, she has the bad luck of being the only one stuck with E.G.O suit based on the Fairy Gentleman, resulting in her being constantly covered with slime and her saying something she normally wouldn't as a result of the Abnormality influence. Her compatriots Rodion and even Sinclair have a field day laughing at her, much to her chagrin.
    • In a meta sense, Sloshing Ishmael is also considered one of the worst IDs in the game as she is largely outclassed by her LCCB Identity, who fulfills the exactly same niche.

Liu South Section 4

A version of Ishmael that joined the Lui Association. She is unique in that, despite being an incredibly powerful fighter, she eschews the Liu's usual squad tactics to work solo.
  • Big Eater: Many of her lines have her talk about eating or getting a bite after work, usually beef noodles.
  • I Work Alone: Unlike other Liu Fixers, who are trained to fight in groups, Ishmael is known for fighting on her own, though she's no less capable of doing her job.
  • Lost Food Grievance: While not lost, as she packs it up to go, but she gets pissed whenever her meal is interrupted by work, as by the time she gets the chance to finish her meal the noodles of her dish have become unpalatably mushy for her tastes.

Molar Boatworks Fixer

A version of Ishmael that replaces Olga of the Molar Boatworks immediately after the events of the Library.

The Pequod Captain

A version of Ishmael who acts as Ahab in her Mirror World, hunting The All-Withering Crimson Whale.
  • Breaking Old Trends: She has two combat passives, an always-on damage boost to Lake Entities and her activated passive which gives her and her teammates Poise. She's also the first unit that has unique Sanity mechanics tied specifically to her Identity and not a passive.
  • Combination Attack: Her second skill has a chance to activate Assist Attack after every attack she makes that turn, which has the Sinner immediately following her on the Dashboard make a Skill 1 attack against the enemy she just attacked.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: If you bring her to Canto V's dungeon (specifically, the last fight with Ahab using GasHarpoon), she loses the Compulsion debuff and instead gains Reverse Compulsion, allowing her to gain 15 SP at the start of each turn. Ishmael even mocks Ahab by throwing her words back in her face, and Ahab in turn gets new dialogue when you defeat her.
    Ishmael: "All my fault, you say...? What fault? I daresay it's all thanks to me."
    Ahab: "Once an Ahab… shall be Ahab evermore…!"
  • Jack of All Stats: She has a lot of things packed in her kit, including Bleed, Poise, Offense Level Up, Aggro, Burn, specific forms of Power Up and even Assist Attack (which lets loose a free, unopposed Skill 1 from any adjacent allies). Due to this, it is difficult to slot her in one category and can fulfill a role in a Bleed team but also one in a Burn and Poise team.
  • Large Ham: In stark contrast to her other Identities, this Ishmael is all about loud and bold proclamations.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter:
    • She has a unique Sanity mechanic that causes her to lose Sanity whenever an ally kills an opponent of a higher level than her, unless that kill was obtained through an Assist Attack that she set up Or, in simple terms.... She also gains more Sanity against higher-level enemies than usual Identities.
    • She also has two combat passives, one that's triggered by Sin Affinity Resonance, and another triggered in the presence of certain enemies (Lake Entities in this case) similar to The One Who Shall Grip Sinclair's damage bonus against Mechanical Amalgams with his third Skill.
  • Playing with Fire: She can inflict Burn and Burn Count, and upon killing an enemy every hit she deals applies burn the next turn.
  • Support Party Member: Just like Ahab, she focuses on boosting the Sanity of her teammates, applying buffs to teammates, and even having her own versions of Assist Attack to cause another Sinner to use their Skill 1 as an extra attack, and Assist Defense giving an ally Aggro and Defense Level.
  • Vocal Dissonance: A curious example. While Jang Ye-na's more screechy, lower tone fits the Identity, it stands in stark contrast to the softer, calmer voice she uses for all of Ishmael's other Identities.

  • An Ice Person: A theme with her; What is Cast depicts Rodion in her cell, wielding a hatchet made of ice and the scenery of a snow-covered complex littered with corpses, she gets the Rime Shank E.G.O from the already ice-themed Baba Yaga Abnormality that serves as the Climax Boss of her chapter, and the Golden Bough in said chapter is residing within a frigid wasteland.
  • Batman Gambit: After the disastrous caper in Canto II, she volunteers herself to gamble for the Golden Bough alone with a sticker containing some wishpower against the Syndicate leaders they've been fighting. Except, she never used it in the first place and bluffed her way to victory by seeming suspicious on purpose. The Tieqiu leader at the table instantly assumes that she was applying wishpower on herself right before going all-in, and makes the rash bet that if she's cheating he'll forfeit the game, which promptly gets him thrown out the game and wins the Sinners the match (mostly because Aida decided she was going to skip the game and kill them all before she loses). The only part of the bluff Rodion wasn't counting on was said leader being graphically killed for his false accusation right in front of her, judging from her shocked reaction.
  • Big Eater:
    • While never actually shown eating, Rodion has the largest appetite of the sinners, regularly suggesting that Dante should reward her top-tier performance with dinner, lamenting about the lack of good food their journey has, or suggesting that team celebrate the day with an outing to a restaurant. She has a fondness for meat and steaks mostly, which more than likely harkens back to her impoverished life back home and the first thing she did for her neighbors upon murdering their wicked tax collector, using her stolen fortune to feed the starving people with quality meat.
    • She also promises good food to anyone who finishes the battle first when she's narrating. (With the tab, of course, being on the company).
    • This adds onto the wrongness of her N Corp Mittelhammer Alternate Self, who is so religiously devoted to Nagel und Hammer and The One Who Grips that she shows her dedication by fasting.
    • Around the start of the Hell's Chicken event, she's quick to point out the nearby fried chicken and start outlining how tasty it is. At one point, Gregor theorizes if the Headhens are a result of Sinclair struggling to eat one particular piece of chicken, to which the latter quickly states Rodion picked it clean anyhow. She and Heathcliff also reminisce about their own memories of going to HamHamPangPang and enjoying large meals of chicken.
  • Big Ego, Hidden Depths: Rodion is possibly the most boastful of all the Sinners (which is really saying something in their group), even going so far as to proclaim that believing that she's hot shit is enough to beat out concentrated luck power. However, she also carries a lot of guilt on her shoulders from her past, and it's hinted that some of her confidence is of the 'fake it til you make it' variety because of her other insecurities about wanting to be important or special.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She openly looks out for Sinclair the most out of the rest, who is the shortest and likely the youngest member of the team. In Canto II, she’s the one who gives him the pep talk he needs to get him to dance the team out of trouble from Los Mariachis, covers his ears when Ryōshū begins to describe an ambiguous method of brutalization so graphically violent detail as to shock an entire casino floor plus her own crewnote , and rather casually stops her Abnormality Report on Baba Yaga to avenge the kid when his head gets smashed open by an ice pick. Sinclair himself notes that Rodion likes to save snack foods to share with him for later. To a lesser extent, she’s also this to Don Quixote, as seen briefly in an early scene in Hell's Chicken when she wipes the leftovers of food on Don's face.
  • Birds of a Feather: She gets along swimmingly with Olga of the Molar Boatworks, both being free-spirited heavy drinkers who are still competent at their respective jobs. Ironically, despite the close resemblance, she is not a Composite Character of Olga in a mirror reality as Yi Sang and Rain are — ironically, Outis takes the role.
  • Born Lucky: She boasts that she's never lost a game of chance, and later states that wishpower doesn't affect her luck because it effectively boils down to being condescend confidence — something she already has in spades.

  • Motive Decay: Sonya, Rodya's former friend, theorizes that her murder of the corrupt pawnbroker from her past was less about getting enough money to feed her neighbors and more about proving to herself that she was special somehow. Interestingly, Rodya goes against giving a definitive response to that and neither confirms nor denies his theory, and also points out that Sonya is intelligent enough to be well aware of what she was going to do before she acted; the implication being, if he knew what she was doing, then why did he let her go through with it despite condemning her in the present? He doesn't have a response.
  • My Greatest Failure: In her past, Rodion murdered a corrupt tax collector who was hoarding money in order to secure food for her fellow Backstreets neighbors. This action would come back to haunt her though; the person she murdered had connections with the Middle Finger, which violently retaliated by mass murdering Rodion's fellow neighbors.
  • Obsessed with Food: Never passes up an opportunity to eat and frequently makes her desire to eat known when food is not available. This stems from a desire to avoid being reminded of her past as a poor, starving urchin in the Backstreets of District 25.
  • Professional Gambler: Despite what her devil-may-care attitude might imply, Rodion is a very competent and confident gambler when put to the task. Especially when it comes to games where she might have to bluff out the other players in order to win. Even without the actual use of any luck stickers, she's easily able to wipe the table with the other gamblers.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Her base Identity's support passive, Gambler, simply boosts the damage of the highest HP ally by 20% whenever their coins land heads. However, this is one of the largest damage buffs from any support passive in the entire game, on top of affecting all attacks universally and having one of the most consistent activation conditions (since a 45 SP Sinner will be rolling heads ~95% of the time), making base Rodion a top pick as a backline support even as higher rarity Identities are unlocked.
  • The Social Expert: Rodya is easily the most personable out of all the Sinners, something which Dante even notices upon meeting her. She lacks most of the eccentricities her coworkers do, has a sense of humour in spades, and despite her mercenary attitude towards money and living in general, is shown to care greatly about those more vulnerable than her, particularly Sinclair. All of this combines to make her the easiest to have a conversation with.
  • Some Call Me "Tim": She notes in her promo that her proper name is quite a bit longer but also projects a sense of coldness, in reference to her name origin being Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov, so she asks Dante to simply call her Rodya.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She's the tallest female Sinner and second-tallest overall, beaten only by Meursault, at around 180cm/5'11 feet tall, and she's quite the looker.
  • Stealth Pun: The name of her E.G.O is part of a number of Russian proverbs, "What is cast cannot be returned" i.e. "what's done cannot be undone". In it, her axe shatters into pieces. To top it off, "cast" also refers to gambling, and "the die is cast" also means "what's done cannot be undone".
  • Stronger Than They Look: Seems to be on the lower end of the Sinners in terms of physical strength, but is able to effortlessly drag Ishmael away against her will when the need arises. Ishmael even lampshades it with bafflement.

  • Sympathetic Murder Backstory: Canto II focuses on her past, which culminates in her telling everyone else that her murdering an oppressive tax collector resulted in her neighborhood being massacred. While she doesn't regret her actions, she is upset about the consequences.
  • Tattooed Crook: She has a tattoo of an anatomical heart on the left side of her chest, and she is a murderer.
  • Weapon Specialisation: Her base Identity's weapon is an axe, and subsequently, every single E.G.O. she can wield is fashioned in the style of an axe in their Awakening versions. This is fairly obviously a reference to her namesake.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: As the Sinner writing the Observation Notes on the Wriggling Beasts/Slithering Inquisitors, Rodion makes it clear she was already freaked out by them even before she started thinking on their possible actual nature.

Kurokumo Wakashu

A version of Rodion who joins the Kurokumo Clan, a Syndicate under the umbrella of the Thumb.
  • Critical Hit Class: Doubles as a Poise-stacking Identity, which differentiates her from her already Bleed-based based Identity.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: During the initial release of the game and the following first few months, Rodion's Kurokumo identity ranked her as a Kurokumo henchman, not a wakashu. This is likely due to the fact her design was based off of the henchmen from Library of Ruina (with other Kurokumo identities like Ryoshu and Hong Lu being based off of Sayo and Yang respectively). However most likely due to the disparity of her being 000 while Hong Lu, a wakashu (and therefore higher than her in rank lore-wise) was only a 00, she eventually saw a promotion from henchman to wakashu.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Uses a huge katana, large enough to qualify as an odachi.
  • Not a Morning Person: Says that she starts her days at night and tells Dante not to wake her up early in the morning.
  • Protection Racket: Considering the syndicate she works for, it isn't exactly surprising that part of her job is collecting "protection fees" from local businesses and homes in the backstreets unfortunate enough to reside in their territory.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Is signficantly less empathatic than her LCB counterpart, to the point of viewing Sinclair as little more than a whiny kid, and significantly more bloodthirsty to the point of being the only person her version of Ryōshū actually enjoys working with.

LCCB Assistant Manager

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: As opposed to Heathcliff, whose Identity Story shows him to be reluctant at best in their work, this version of Rodion appears to be fully indoctrinated into Nagel Und Hammer's belief system. Gleefully repeating their rhetoric about "heretics" and throwing herself into things like fasting and prayer to achieve further "purity". And is especially vigorous when it comes to "purging" the "unclean".
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: This Identity has prominent eyebags, which contrasts with the meticulous appearance Rodion normally has.
  • Helmets Are Hardly Heroic: Her N Corp. identity has her don their suit of heavy armor, but passes on wearing its helmet. 'Heroic' may not be the right word given the group, however.
  • Knight Templar: N Corp. Mittelhammer Rodion has a version of her join under Nagel und Hammer and become as brutal and brainwashed as the rest of the order. She regularly chuckles at the opportunity of smiting heretics, despises body prosthetics, speaks in a near-constant crazed tone and comes to close to considering the idea of nailing Dante for their clock head before being convinced it's just a helmet — a far cry from the normally personable and friendly Rodya. After uptying her to her max potential, her dialogue reveals that this version of Rodion returned to her hometown to hunt and massacre whoever was still alive.

Rosespanner Workshop Rep.

A version of Rodion who works as the boss and public representative of the Rosespanner Workshop.
  • The Alleged Boss: She's technically in charge of the Rosespanner Workshop, but she spends most of her time gambling online and hands her subordinates her official stamp since she doesn't want to deal with paperwork.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: She was promoted to representative because she is amazing at fieldwork. Unfortunately, this skill hasn't translated to managing an office.
  • Chainsaw Good: Wields a weapon resembling an oversized wrench with chainsaw blades running along the head.
  • Composite Character: Lives Niko's life, and her skills take after his.
  • The Gambler: As per usual with Rodya, she spends most of her time playing online gambling games instead of doing paperwork. She's lucky enough that she actually pays the entire Workshop's wages just with that.

Zwei South Section 5

Dieci South Section 4

  • Badass Bookworm: According to her, for the Dieci Association, knowledge is literally power, and the more a Fixer from it studies, the stronger they get.
  • Badass Preacher: The Association's theme. She dresses in a cassock and has a stole draped over her shoulders, and gains power and strength from the books she reads.
  • Barefisted Monk: Attacks with her fists, which is empowered literally by knowledge.
  • Orphanage of Love: Rodion considers the Association to be her home, and it recruits members by taking orphans off the streets.
  • Power Glows: Her stole glows when in battle, possibly due to her using whatever ability lets her convert knowledge into physical might.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Her first and second Skills have her rapidly punch the opponent.

Liu South Section 4 Director

  • The Alleged Boss: Similar to her Rosespanner ID, Rodion is much more casual and friendly than a leader would be expected to be. This is explained as being part of the Liu's modus opperandi, as they select Directors not based on individual skill and power, but on their ability to get along with their subordinates.
  • Big Eater: While already present in her base identity, here she apparently spent four hours buying meals and snacks from different restaurants — though, at least some of that was for her subordinates as well. It's part of the Liu Association's hat, as the Liu Association is said to be considered and consists of food enthusiasts.
  • Decapitated Army: She intentionally inflicts this on a group of foes that her Section is shown fighting in her Story while Ishmael and Ryoshu keep the enemy leader's allies from helping.

  • Animal Motifs: Birds (more specifically baby birds, as indicated by his introductory emoji). His insignia is an egg, his weapon's name "Vogel" translates to "Bird", and his Day in the Limelight Canto features him growing past his trauma and insecurities as a result of his massacred family and hometown at Kromer's hands, with Demian also bringing up how he has figuratively broken out of his shell and taken flight in the aftermath of Canto III now that he's finally at peace with himself.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: His general mannerisms and smaller stature (being the shortest sinner) imply that he's far younger than his teammates, and as a result more responsible sinners seem to go out of their way to look out for him (like Gregor and Rodion) while others target him for bullying (such as Heathcliff and Ryōshū).
  • Berserk Button: Anything to do with Kromer sets him into an absolute rage. Notably, he's at first traumatized to see what Nagel und Hammer have done to his hometown, but the moment Kromer makes herself known he immediately enters an Unstoppable Rage and begins to absolutely brutalize any Inquisitor within reach. He spends the rest of the Canto split between a Heroic BSoD and said Unstoppable Rage.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Sinclair's description on the website and promo trailer paint him as quite skittish. Beneath that, however, lies a more volatile person. He is noted to have a murderous gaze, his eyes darken before cleaving his foes with his E.G.O., and outright explodes in violent anger at the end of his trailer.
    Sinclair: Right, all I can do... is skewer that ■■■■■■■ with a stake and -$#^$^%^%- straight in!
  • Birds of a Feather: His damning friendship with Kromer was born out of their shared disdain for mechanical prosthetics, which their hometown of Calw was renowned for.
  • Break the Cutie: He's already been broken before the story even starts, but it happens again in Canto III due to being forced to return to his hometown on a mission, only to find it being razed to the ground and all the residents being slaughtered by the same people who killed his entire family the last time he was there.
  • Bully and Wimp Pairing: Of a sorts with Ryōshū, being the wimp to her bully. While she does still threaten and push him around, she does treat him slightly better than the other Sinners, likely on account of him being able to understand her acronyms, to the point where he's the only one she actively asks for on her team in Hell's Chicken (and threatening him into joining).
  • Butt-Monkey: Sinclair gets put through a lot of pain, trauma and humiliation, both played dramatically and humorously, more so than anyone else on the team. Even not counting his horrific backstory as explored in Canto III, being one of the youngest and smallest Sinners means almost everyone picks on him in particular or outright attacks him. To wit, he's apparently regularly beaten up by Heathcliff, gets pummeled by Don Quixote, Outis and was nearly killed by Vergilius in the same Chapter just as methods to shut him up, and he's put in the unenviable position of being the only chef on his team while everyone else backseat-cooks over him.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Canto III focuses on him and his backstory, taking place in his hometown, flashing back to his past at both home and school several times, and with the Golden Bough being initially attuned to him.
  • Doomed Hometown: Sinclair returns to Calw to find it effectively put to the torch, with the townsfolk either slaughtered en masse or currently being tortured by N Corp's Nagel und Hammer.
  • Duality Motif: A recurring theme with Sinclair's character, as his emotional instability, horrific trauma, and inexperience results in him flip-flopping between being a kindhearted wimp or a wrathful killer, especially during Canto III, when confronting his past has him in such a hate-filled mess that even Heathcliff, who typically bullies him, is bothered by how murderous he can get. This is further represented in his LCB Sinner art, with one half in color and the other in greyscale, and his image song goes from a slow, soft carol to a fast, frantic piece that's even called "Between Two Worlds." This further carries into a number of his Identities, as the Sinclairs of the Blade Lineage, Los Mariachis, and Cinq Association worlds will all go from meek and softspoken to stone-cold and violent when it's time to fight.
  • Finishing Move: This is the encouraged way to use his "Impending Day" E.G.O., since its power is increased against target with less than 25% HP. In addition, if Sinclair manages to score a kill with the E.G.O., it heals allies and increases his attack power on the next turn.
  • Foreshadowing: When forced to dance the Sinners out of trouble in Canto II, Los Mariachis are touched to their core by the sheer spirit emanating from his dance and they deduce that the young man had gone through so much darkness and terror that it shows through his movement. Dante has to wonder to themself what Sinclair could’ve possibly went through to touch Los Mariachis so deeply, but has to move on without answers until Canto III, where Sinclair's past is the focus.
  • Friendly Fireproof: His Lifetime Stew E.G.O. plays around with this trope. On the one hand, it's targeting is always indiscriminate regardless of whether Sinclair is corroded or not, with the only stipulation being that the targets are the ones with the lowest remaining health, and deal 7 stacks of Burn to them. On the other, it has a specific safety net built into this attack which deals no direct damage if the target is friendly, and will actually buff them it it does end up hitting an ally for some reason. Of course, if Sinclair is corroded then the trope is still averted.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Canto III, centered around Sinclair, features Nagel und Hammer inquisitors, against whom LCB Sinclair is a poor matchup against due to their resistance to his Slash damage and liberal usage of Pierce damage which he's weak to, representing his fear of them and Kromer after what they'd done to him and his family. Furthermore, stages where Kromer's Whistle is in effect will cause him to take a massive 30 point hit to his SP every time it occurs due to it being a massive Trauma Button for him. However, the Canto's dungeon in the lead-up to fighting Kromer allows him to find parts of the E.G.O Gift 'A Sign', representing his growing determination to confront her, and collecting three or more parts will both buff Sinclair and debuff Kromer in the final battle — collect any less, and Kromer will remain in her usual state and Sinclair will actually suffer debuffs if you make him fight her. And in said final battle, Kromer also notably does not resist Slash damage which LCB Sinclair deals exclusively, even after she goes One-Winged Angel and gains a Pierce resistance to accompany her Blunt resistance from her first phase.
  • Grew a Spine: Hell's Chicken, which takes place after Canto III, has him exhibit this. While he's still rather timid and somewhat easily pushed around by his colleagues, he's far more capable of sticking up for himself, telling Gregor his teasing won't work on him and then snapping at his team in frustration due to their constant backseating. Taken further in Canto V, where he explodes at Ishmael for seemingly not caring if their U Corp LCCB agent died after what had happened to Effie and Saude, and manages to threaten a Twinhook Pirate in the club so effectively that even Heathcliff gives him props.
  • Height Angst: He snaps at Faust for making a jab at the odds of him getting taller and tries to tell himself he can still get taller when Outis criticizes his diet as a factor for his shorter stature.
  • Hidden Depths: Aside from Faust and maybe Rodion, he’s the only member of the team who knows how to properly dance, specifically with maracas. It's a useful thing too, as the Mariachis of Canto II confronting the team allow the team to pass for his performance.
  • It's All My Fault: He has a severe guilt complex over Kromer's rise to power and her slaughtering his family and hometown, blaming and loathing himself in equal measure over his one error of telling his classmates about his father's business with K Corp. Surprisingly for this trope, Dante actually agrees with him after Kromer is killed, saying that he may have been at fault. As they point out, however, it was one mistake Sinclair made when he was a child that anyone could have made, and he couldn't possibly have known what it would snowball into.
  • Image Song: Between Two Worlds, which plays during the final battle with Kromer in Canto III, is sung from his perspective. In the slower, carol-like first half, known as "World of Light," the lyrics discuss his pain and regret over losing his family on Christmas and how he wishes the horrific events of his life never happened, and in the far more frantic second half, known as "World of Darkness," the lyrics are concerned with his utter terror of Kromer and her attempts to warp him into her ideal image of him, and his desperate desire to break free from his shell and be "reborn" with enough courage to confront her once and for all.
  • I Want My Mommy!: Outis mentions in Canto IV that Sinclair would often cry out for his parents when he died.
  • Last-Name Basis: Despite him being confirmed to have a first name, "Emil", almost everyone in his life besides his family members refers to him by his last name. This includes all the Sinners in the present, and Demian and Kromer during his school days.
  • Lovable Coward: During the middle of Canto III, Heathcliff implies that Sinclair is usually seen in the back of a fight formation, being too nervous to charge into the fray, though despite this Dante, Rodion and anyone else he gets along with don’t hold it against him. It’s shocking to Heathcliff when Sinclair is riled up into an throwing a bloody and brutal massacre against loads of Inquisitors by himself, making him wonder out loud where all this usefulness was earlier. This is not so much the case after Canto III, where Sinclair grew a bigger spine to stand up for himself with against his fellow Sinners, if while still being a little meek.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: In a fashion. He's the only Sinner among those who've had their focus chapter to not have an E.G.O originating from one of the Abnormalities fought in said chapter, mainly because the "Abnormalities" fought in his chapter are all actually heavily corroded N. Corp Inquisitors. He instead received Impending Day, which is tied to Doomsday Calendar.
  • Memento Macguffin: His deal with Kromer to help him avoid his prosthetic surgery involved her giving him two coins for safekeeping, which he didn't realize represent chances he has to be spared for not joining her. Kromer takes one back after his family is slain, and she takes back the other one in their final confrontation in Canto III, having committed to ending his life before going One-Winged Angel.
  • Mood-Swinger: He’s noted for his emotional instability, likely owing to a combination of his young age, exposure to Fixer violence and very rough past. His facial expressions are among the most extreme in the mostly stoic Limbus crew, going from meek shyness, an ominous and malevolent stare behind eye shadow, and tearful and close-to-blubbering sorrow.
  • Naïve Newcomer: His official profile notes that Sinclair isn't used to combat or the violence that comes with it yet, and by his own admission, being a Sinner is his first time working with a Company.
  • Nervous Tics: Sinclair had a habit of biting his nails whenever he was uneasy or nervous when he was younger. He did attempt to curb this habit by cutting his nails so there was nothing to bite, but ended up miscalculating on that front. As once he no longer had nails to bite, he just ended up biting into his own fingertips without thinking.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: His careless comments about his father's business in class results in him meeting Kromer, who he bonds with over their shared distaste over mechanical prosthetics. Despite having misgivings, Sinclair would eventually strike a deal with her, who promised to get him out of an impending prosthetic surgery if he'd let her enter his basement. After the two find monstrosities in a secret passageway beneath his home, Kromer holds up her end of the deal and "repays" him by slaughtering his whole family with a group of inquisitors, leaving him as the Sole Survivor. And by the time he eventually returns to Calw with the other Sinners, she's either killed everyone there or is still torturing them.
  • Odd Friendship: Sinclair — a kindhearted, but perpetually nervous wimp in most situations — inexplicably becomes the closest friend Ryōshū has on the bus. He is the only one who understands and bothers to translate her acronyms for the rest of the Sinners, and for her part, most of their interactions indicate a certain fondness for Sinclair, hidden beneath a exterior as cruel to him as anyone else.
    Dante: Sinclair... You might be linked to Ryōshū on a spiritual level at this point.
  • The One Guy: Contrasting Don Quixote, he wound up as this in Ryōshū's team during the Hell's Chicken event, purely because the latter threatened him into joining.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Sinclair may seem like a meek shortstack, but Kromer, assorted Mooks, and even Ishmael have learned how terrifyingly strong he can be if you push your luck with him. Fittingly, his base ID is a Glass Cannon with below-average health and defense level, three stagger thresholds, and a counter for his defense skill instead of anything to help him actually avoid damage, but his actual moveset is built around doing monstrous amounts of damage that still holds up even as your roster of IDs grows.
  • The Power of Friendship: His bonds with people rather than his own personal strength and the growing thereof are the deciding factors to his Canto's climax. The twisted codependency he had with Kromer, the villain of the chapter, is contrasted with the benign (if still unorthodox) friendship he shared with Demian, who saves him and the other Sinners because of it.
  • Riches to Rags: He comes from a wealthy family that was well regarded in his hometown for their expertise on prosthetics, but is now a lowly Fixer in Limbus Company's employ.
  • Sole Survivor: Twice, no less. First of Kromer's massacre of his family, and then on a much larger scale after Kromer returns to Calw and has her troops slaughter the whole village, before she herself is killed by Demian, leaving him the only survivor of the town as a whole. Can be subverted in the latter case, since in the Canto III dungeon at least one random event involves optionally saving surviving townspeople, who face certain torture and death if not rescued.
  • Spin Attack: Sinclair's Lifetime Stew E.G.O. attack animation includes him spinning around uncontrollably to the point he makes himself dizzy, all the while splashing foes with scalding hot broth.
  • Support Party Member: His Impending Day E.G.O turns him into a resource generator and a situational healer, creating 5 Sin resources when he kills something and healing the Sinners. If he can clean up on some weaker fodder, he's capable of generating immense amounts of Sin to power the E.G.O of other — more offensively-focused — Sinners, whilst also bringing back anyone who's on the verge of dying.
  • Symbol Swearing: Amongst the various characters who do swear, Sinclair is the only one whose swearing is censored in some fashion:
    • His Character Promo paragraph has him slide off into symbol-censored cursing over what's implied to be what he feels can only be done of what Kromer has done to his life.
    • When a Big Brother of the Middle shows up, causing alarm for the Sinners, Sinclair translates Ryōshū's "B.B." remark as "B**tch Brother", whilst Ryōshū herself says the word "bitch" uncensored afterward.
    • This is zig-zagged with the Corrosion line of his 9:2 E.G.O., given that the reading of the Skin Prophet's book reveals it to contain the same random string of symbols Sinclair says.
  • Tiny Schoolboy: While Sinclair's age is ambiguous, he was close to finishing high school before meeting Kromer; ingame images and character portraits show most characters (girls included) towering over him, and he's the second shortest Sinner in the team in the present day.
  • Translator Buddy: He's the only Sinner able to quickly grasp and understand Ryōshū's highly specific and violent acronyms, which is implied to be the result of his horrific past. Dante themself is somewhat disturbed by this and wonders what happened to him to be able to understand her.
  • Unwilling Roboticization: One of Sinclair's greatest sources of unease and terror when his family was still alive was the expectation that, once he graduated school, he would undergo a "full body robotic prosthetic" procedure like the rest of them — this would involve removing his brain from his body and transplanting it into a robotic shell instead. He was too afraid of disappointing his family, or fighting back against their expectations, to ever speak up against it. It never ended up happening, thanks to Kromer having his whole family slaughtered before the procedure could ever take place.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: In Canto V, he loses his cool when Ishmael walks up to a pirate holding an LCCB agent hostage and kills him. He shouts at her for being so reckless and asks if she's already moved on from Effie and Saude's deaths.
  • When He Smiles: He is shown to be smiling rather happily while interacting with other Sinners during the credits of Canto III, presumably due to having made peace with the events of his past. Given his usual nervousness, it's notable.
  • You Remind Me of X: He mentions that Dante reminds him a lot of Demian, with Dante appearing to speak similarly to him when they're trying to act like a manager.

Identities

Blade Lineage Salsu

A version of Sinclair who joined Blade Lineage Syndicate as a Salsu. He struggles with his love for bloodshed, something that is praised and otherwise seen as normal within the Syndicate.


  • Critical Hit Class: His first two skills in this identity are meant to stack Poise buff to increase his Critical Hit chance, which ideally will be used with his hard-hitting third skill.
  • Mighty Glacier: Contrasting his Cinq Association ID, this version of Sinclair is potentially hard-hitting especially when his third skill lands critical, but he has low Speed stat at 2-5.
  • Split Personality: His murderous intent comes out prominently as another side of him, and he himself is not sure which is the "real" him. Consequently, Sinclair is conflicted between the joy of bloodshed and the unease it makes him feel.

Los Mariachis Jefe

A version of Sinclair who joined the Mariachi Syndicate, and rose up their ranks to become their Jefe. While he still behaves very nervous and uneasy like he usually does, he's quick to show how and why he became the organization's boss when he pushed to it.
  • Alternate Self: He takes Aida's place as the Syndicates leader, wearing the same outfit, sombrero and glowing face paint as her.
  • Dance Battler: Like the rest of the Mariachi Syndicate, many of his moves involve his sprites showing off some very nimble dance moves while he bashes his foes left and right with a set of maracas.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Like the rest of the Mariachi Syndicate seen in the game, his primary weapons are a set of maracas.
  • Power Glows: After uptying this identity to the third tier, the new art reveals him to have facepaint or a facial tattoo that glows an eerie blue in the dark, with the ensuing cutscene indicating it's what happens when he begins a Pañata Party.
  • Stone Wall: In this identity, Sinclair has lower attack power even compared to his base identity, in addition to having one of the lowest speed stat at 2-3. That said, he gains huge amount of HP pool and defense in exchange, and he only has one stagger threshold that can be lowered even further to ensure his survivability.
  • Trigger Phrase: According to his subordinates, one way to instantly get him in a mindset to battle is to tell him that it's time for a Pañata Party. Which has the immediate effect of causing him to bash the person who said the phrase in the head before going on a rampage.
  • Young and in Charge: Despite appearing to be the same age as his base identity counterpart, he's apparently been able to rise up the ranks of the Mariachi Syndicate until he's their boss. And one they all respect and fear as such.

Zwei South Section 6

A version of Sinclair who joined the Zwei Association.
  • Declaration of Protection: Towards Dante. He will say this upon his identity acquisition, and some of his dialogues will have him fuss over Dante if they go anywhere without telling him.
  • Failure Knight: If the Sinners fail the mission, Sinclair's dialogue will have him lament that nothing has changed since "then" (i.e. the time he lost his family).
  • Lawman Baton: A Zwei Fixer who swings around a baton rather than the typical Zweihänders.

The One Who Shall Grip

A version of Sinclair who was driven into insanity by Faust as the One Who Grips after burning his own family to death, and joined her side as Nagel und Hammer's right-hand man just like in Kromer's vision.
  • Biblical Motifs: This version of Sinclair has an incomplete Mark of Cain on his forehead. Based on the introduction trailer and the illustration, one of the three was apparently consumed when he burned his family to death.
  • Death or Glory Attack: His third skill has 3 coins and a base power of 30, but loses 12 for each coin that lands Heads — if you land all Tails, you have bar none the most powerful attack in the game so far, while if you land Heads your damage is extremely reduced or even nullified.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Due to his gimmick of losing sanity with each attack and losing significant power when his coins land heads, using him demands a very particular strategy of keeping his Sanity low enough that he's unlikely to land heads, but not low enough that he hits the -45 mark and Corrodes (or finding a way to work around the Corrosion). But if you manage to do it, you have one of the strongest damage dealers in the game with high base power and multiple coins on all his skills; his third skill in particular has a base power of 30, higher than most E.G.O abilities, with three coins that add up to 90 base power on attack if you land all tails.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration:
    • He fittingly pairs well with the One Who Grips Faust: her Whistles passive targets the ally with the lowest Sanity, which will almost surely be him, and heals SP to avoid him going overboard with the Sanity loss and Corrode. When she heals him using her passive, you'll hear him laugh when the whistles are heard.
    • If you bring him to Kromer's fight, she'll be so utterly stunned at seeing the ideal version of Sinclair she envisioned fighting her that she'll instantly stagger at the start of the fight, providing a major opportunity to tear off a fat chunk of her health bar. Just don't try to do this against the replica Kromer in the Refraction Railway -- it won't work.
    • In keeping with Nagel und Hammer's fanatical hatred for prosthetics, his third skill does more damage if the target is a "Mechanical Amalgam".
  • Irony: He wields the same weapon as his Sinner counterpart, yet it deals Blunt damage instead. This also means he's ideal for blazing through the Blunt-weak N Corp footsoldiers and Guido, but not so much against Kromer herself (being Blunt-resistant).
  • Mirthless Laughter: Sinclair does this whenever The One Who Grips Faust's whistle is activated, on the condition that the passive affects him.
  • Playing with Fire: All of his skills are capable of inflicting the Burn status effect, and the illustrations of his identity show him being surrounded by flames around him.
  • Sanity Slippage: Weaponized. In stark contrast to most other identities released so far, all of his abilities save his defensive skill will lower his SP on use, and his passive (which is cheap enough to almost always be active) halves SP gain when successfully winning clashes or killing enemies. In turn, almost all of the additional effects on his skills will only activate when the coins land tails, and them having large minus coins also causes them to lose massive power if he has high sanity and is rolling "well".
  • Situational Damage Attack: His third skill, Self-destructive Purge, does an additional 10% damage against targets which are "Mechanical Amalgams".
  • Tears of Blood: The illustrations for this identity show him with blood dripping from his eyes in a manner that makes him look like he's crying.
  • Uniformity Exception: Unlike all of the other N Corp units, this Identity has no Nail-stacking skills but rather Burn and a bit of Bleed.

Lobotomy E.G.O::Red Sheet

A version of Sinclair who joins the Technology Liberation Alliance alongside Heathcliff, Ishmael, and Rodion.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: His skill set revolves around gaining and giving Talisman, a buff/debuff that lets the afflicted deal rupture equal to Count on a hit, but gain rupture as well when hit, meaning it can either help a rupture team plow through targets, or give the enemy what they need to chew through you if they can hit you. Also, at enough count, the afflicted takes fixed damage, meaning Sinclair can hurt himself if he gets too much, requiring him to use a skill to spend Talisman. Additionally, if he can manage to transfer the Talisman effect to an enemy, they essentially have a permanent, non-decaying source of rupture count that can never fall off. However, actually getting the exact amount (5 is needed, any more and the effect falls off and hurts Sinclair before he can pass it along) is exceedingly difficult and at Uptie 4, Red Sheet Sinclair becomes even harder to use, with his skills having greater ease at gaining Talisman but also making it easier to go above 5 Talisman on accident, especially on a Rupture team and/or a team with Gluttony skills which could trigger Sinclair's Passive which makes all of his attacks guaranteed to gain Talisman if the target has Rupture.
  • Double-Edged Buff: Specialises in inflicting his own variant of Talisman, which both gives the afflicted unit the ability to inflict Rupture, and also makes it take Rupture whenever they're hit. This has a maximum threshold of 5 Talisman, and above that the Talisman go away on their own at the cost of fixed damage equal to the count.
  • Not So Stoic: This version of Sinclair mostly carries himself in calm and almost emotionless manner, regardless of the situation. One time he breaks out of this is in one of his dialogues after Uptying, in which he sounds relieved when Dante offers to wear the cursed talismans together... before getting flustered and yell at them for apparently pranking him by putting the talismans on him.

Molar Boatworks Fixer

A version of Sinclair that is part of the Molar Boatworks, having been part of the Molar Office before the fateful day they accepted an invitation to the Library and ending up stranded halfway across the City after the Library's victims were ejected.
  • Always Someone Better: He expresses frustration at both his skills in combat and skills in engineering being outstripped by one companion or another, leaving him to try and tune up his weapon to try and keep up with both.

Cinq South Section 4 Director

A version of Sinclair who becomes the director of Cinq Association's South Section 4. Despite his timidness, he is quick to prove why he is not to be underestimated at.
  • Critical Hit Class: His first two skills focus around stacking Poise counts, which can be converted into potency if he wins clashes using his third skill.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: As noted, he is very timid despite being a Director, but turns into a chillingly efficient duelist the moment he engages in combat.
  • The Dreaded: Zigzagged. His disposition indicates otherwise and if anything, it often makes him target for Duel to the Death from his client. However, this is played straight by those who actually witness him fight, and his perfect victory quote has him getting confused on why everyone is keeping their distance from him.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Has fairly high Speed stat at 4-7 base range when fully upgraded, and his first skill also grants him Haste. While it will take a while to build up his Poise potency, he can hit hard and quickly once he builds up enough.
  • Split Personality: Even more so than his Blade Lineage counterpart. Despite his usual timidness, this version of Sinclair completely turns into a different person the moment he engages in duel, being so hyperfocused and able to corner his opponent in swift move. He tends to have no recollection on what happened the moment he regains his sense of self.
  • Weapon Wields You: Discussed. Sinclair comments that rather than he himself that fights, he feels as if he is guided by his blade instead.

Dawn Office Fixer

A version of Sinclair who became a fixer of the Dawn Office and took the place of the man who would become The Crying Children, Philip.
  • Alternate Self: To Sinclair of course but also one to Philip, even manifesting his own similar version of Philip's EGO.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Uniquely to most IDs, this version of Sinclair has access to two movesets, his first being the standard moveset, while his second has him manifest his EGO for even stronger attacks.

  • Ambiguously Brown: She has noticeably darker skin than other Sinners, and a different shade of dark compared to Heathcliff. Considering her namesake and the language on her ID, it's likely she's ethnically Greek.
  • Becoming the Mask: Initially, her shameless bootlicking of Dante is purely that, with her real opinion of her manager being low and only hidden under the thinnest veneer of respect. As the story progresses, she begins to genuinely approve of more of Dante's decisions as they develop into a more competent and assertive manager, much to her own surprise.
  • Commonality Connection: She admits she has ample experience with leading men from her career prior to her employ for the Limbus Company, and thus sympathizes with Dante for being forced into the role, especially with a crew as dysfunctional as the Sinners.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Of the gacha game characters like those of Azur Lane (almost universally female) who exist as wish fulfillment fantasies for male players — those that, while no slouch in battle, consistently praise their superior (in all other games, you) by pointing out how competent and skilled you are, and most of all, how dependent they are of you, despite the player-insert being plain in comparison. While she doesn't go as far as getting touchy-feely with them (which characters of aforementioned games do), all the praise she heaps on Dante is presented as aggressive bootlicking rather than genuine affection, and this combined with her murky background and unclear motives makes everyone suspicious of her, even Dante themself.
  • Devil in Plain Sight: Everyone, from her crew, her boss and even the game's website makes note of her sketchy nature and open habit of sucking up to her superior. What exactly she’s planning to gain from it, however, is a mystery.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Quite plainly tells Vergilius, a near mythical Color Fixer more powerful than all of the Sinners combined and Dante's own boss, that she doesn't answer to him, and will only follow Dante's orders. She doesn't even shy away when his eyes start glowing red, suggesting her refusal seriously annoyed him.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: To everyone who isn't Dante, she acts like their drill sergeant and tries to whip the generally apathetic group into fighting shape and formations. However, since she leans more into the 'nasty' end of the trope, she usually just insults and berates the team rather actually hand out good advice.
  • Establishing Character Moment: She openly insults Dante when the Sinners first find their body in the prologue acting with her usual Drill Sergeant Nasty self; come a few hours later with their formal introductions after being informed Dante is their manager, and she's apologizing for her rudeness to someone she could "never make grovel before [her]," and responding to Dante's confusion as though they're choosing to overlook what she was referring to, followed by insisting and justifying how and why she always knew they had what it took to lead the Sinners, then finally declaring absolute devotion to them, all the while sporting a rather offputting expression. Her profile stating her to be an especially fickle Sinner to approach lines up very well with all her unwelcoming traits on display.
  • Foil: Serves as one to Ishmael during Canto V, being a fellow sailor with opposite opinions on the manager.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • The Hell's Chicken event shows she's somehow a Supreme Chef who manages to actually make a meal good enough for the distorted owner of Eunbong's Chicken to enjoy. It's especially notable considering Meursault was also able to make a good dish that was only rejected for the lack of passion behind it, which implies Outis actually puts some level of care into her cooking.
    • The dialogue immediately following this implies that her cooking is not actually anything special (it is at least, edible), but rather her decorative flourish added to the dish's presentation at the end to "honor" Dante was what moved Papa Bongy's heart, as opposed to any particular secret flavors or cooking techniques.
    • During Canto V, she briefly mentions her travels and struggle to return home, and is able to recite the warning in tandem with Ishmael when discussing the Waves of the Lake, implying that at least part of her career was spent onboard a ship much like her namesake.
    • In Canto VI, Hong Lu comments on her broken wrist watch, asking if its some sort of fashion statement. Outis snaps at this, saying its not, but doesn't explain why.
  • Humble Hero: Invoked to borderline comical levels, where she'll regularly downplay her own talents to pour heaps of praise for Dante, and of course entirely ignoring or disapproving of the other Sinners at virtually every given moment.
    Outis: This was 99% your brilliant leadership and 1% my competence!
  • Innocently Insensitive: She says the name of the Eunbong's Chicken restaurant is tacky and should be changed, only for the distorted owner to despondently inform her that the restaurant was named after his mother. Outis, for her part, immediately backtracks the statement and awkwardly says tacky is actually good.
  • Insane Troll Logic: While serving as chef for Ryōshū's team, she starts criticizing the rest of the Sinners she's with for their unhealthy diets; while there is Truth in Television in the case of Sinclair's height, it instantly devolves from there when she blames Faust's grey hair (natural, accordingly) and Ishmael's rough hands (from constant physical labor serving aboard a ship) on the same reasoning.
  • Jerkass: When she's not kissing Dante's ass, she's not the most pleasant to the rest of the Sinners, being akin to a strict drill instructor than anything else. She even offers to throw an unconscious Sinclair out of the bus during his breakdown in Canto III and repeatedly refers to the other Sinners as garbage at several points.
  • Jerkass to One:
    • In particular, she's especially critical of Sinclair and expressed several times her willingness to boot him off the bus, even after the events of Canto III. This is played in less malicious by the time Canto V rolls in, though; despite still acting like Drill Sergeant Nasty around him (and Don to lesser extent), Sinclair does at least respect her enough to follow her orders.
    • An inversion, of course, with Dante, where her demeanor takes a complete 180. How much of this is genuine however is something everyone's skeptical on.
  • Lack of Empathy: Along with Vergilius, who was implied to be getting ready to pummel or kill him, Outis uppercuts Sinclair in the gut to get him to shut up during a panic attack he’s having in Canto III, and suggests that they throw him off the bus to continue their mission without him.
  • Loophole Abuse: Unwittingly the real reason her dish was a success for Papa Bongy to accept; she made the dish with Dante in mind, with enough passion in trying to win the favor of someone that the passionless Meursault lacked in his dish that was technically sound but had no heart to it.
  • Loyal to the Position: Possibly. She only became a bootlicker for Dante after being informed they would be the manager of the Sinners, and explicitly cites in an argument with Vergilius when Dante has to revive everyone for a third time that she was hired to take orders from her manager, not him.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name, "Outis", is a Greek word for "Nobody". Unlike the other sinners, her personal records can't be accessed, being forbidden from the Manager by the Company itself. She is, essentially, 'Nobody'.
  • Mercy Kill: In Canto III, after finding Effie impaled on a giant nail, and knowing that with how he's been hung he'd be doomed to a slow death they couldn't save him from, Outis offers to Dante that she can put him out of his misery quickly so that he won't have to suffer. She states she's utilized this method for the same purpose multiple times before as well.
  • Mildly Military: Given her strict attitude and the uniform she wears in her ingame mugshot, it isn't really a secret that Outis used to be in a military of some kind, what with her still acting like the commander of a unit, something which tends to rub the other Sinners the wrong way. To her credit, though, her experience and knowledge of combat and strategy is still incredibly beneficial.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: Her E.G.O. "To Páthos Máthos" ("Suffering Becomes Experience") is a sword that she stabs into an enemy. It then fires a bullet into the opponent's body.
  • No Range Like Point-Blank Range: Outis buries her E.G.O. inside her target before pulling the trigger and blasting them back.
  • Odd Name Out: After a fashion. Unlike Hong Lu, Outis is named after a nickname of her referenced character, "Outis" being the fake name Odysseus gave to the Cyclops.
  • Overzealous Underling: She often expresses a desire for far harsher punishment for the Sinner's screw-ups than Dante is willing to dole out. A notable example is her briefly pushing for Ishmael's execution after her attack on Smee leaves Dante injured, even though they fairly point out they chose to get in the way of Ishmael's attack.
  • Pet the Dog: Her giving the aforementioned Mercy Kill to Effie, considering she could've just kept quiet. It's one of the few times she does something somewhat kind that isn't her deliberately trying to sucker up to Dante, though it is worth noting she does only offer after Dante expresses horror at Effie's state. That being said, considering how she usually acts, it still qualifies.
    • Taken at face value, her various greetings to Dante have her reminding them and showing concern for their health regarding their diet and sleep schedule, and offers to eat lunch with them so they aren't alone. However, if Papa Bongy's evaluation of her dish is anything to go off of, there's at least some level of sincerity to it.
  • Professional Butt-Kisser: When she first meets Dante, she rudely dismisses their state, before learning that they are the Executive Manager — and, thus, her boss. Once Dante wakes up from resurrecting the entire company, she immediately starts claiming she could tell that they had incredible talent at first glance, and her lines with Dante have her continuously praise them for their genius while downplaying her own talents.
    Ishmael: Golly... Don't you ever get tired of licking their boot so clean, Outis?
  • Punch-Clock Hero: Her every action serves to benefit the Executive Manager and carry out his will, meaning she is completely dedicated to getting the Golden Boughs and nothing else. She is perfectly willing to allow the Brazen Bull to slaughter innocents in K Corp. during Canto IV simply because stopping it doesn't help the Sinners.
  • The Strategist: To an extent; while she isn't the leader (that role falls to Dante), she is noted as a worthy potential advisor, having a keen mind for battlefield tactics and a wide base of knowledge about life in the City.
  • Suicidal Overconfidence: The third time Dante has to use their ability to revive a Sinner, they are so worried of the agony that comes with it that Vergil has to threaten them and everyone else on the bus with suffering so gruesome that death would be mercy. Everyone is too nervous to stand up to him, except Outis, who butts in on the conversation to declare that if the manager says they don’t want to use their ability then that’s their order, and that she was hired to take orders from Dante, not Vergil. Lucky for her, Dante relents to his demands as Vergil was getting ready to attack her.
  • Support Party Member: Her G Corp. and Seven Section kits seem largely geared towards providing status effects with her skills rather than raw damage, meaning that in a straight-up fight, her attacks tend to do borderline Scratch Damage unless the enemy is already heavily debuffed. Indicative of this, she's often the Squishy Wizard health-wise as well.
  • Team Mom: Downplayed heavily, but she's the oldest female Sinner (and perhaps oldest in the group in general) and her attitude towards the other Sinners has the feel of an authoritative mother mixed with a drill sergeant.
  • This Is Going to Suck: Her reaction when Dante's orders for the Sinners to stop the Brazen Bull gets them attacked by malfunctioning K Corp. drones, as she is the main Sinner lobbying against stepping in.

  • What the Hell, Hero?: Early in Canto V she calls out Ishmael for disobeying Dante's orders and trying to kill Smee anyway when they don't know what kind of retaliation they're inviting on themselves by doing so. It's later revealed that Twinhooks Crew are backed by an agent of the Middle, vindicating Dante's decision and Outis's anger.
  • Wrench Wench: Noted as having enough technical skill and knowledge of Workshop technologies to repair the bus.

Identities

Blade Lineage Salsu

A version of Outis who became a swordswoman, taking the role of leader of a small unit of Blade Lineage swordfighters.
  • Authority in Name Only: Played with. While Outis is a strong swordfighter in her own right, and is considered a powerful leader for it, she defers a decent amount of her authority to her fellow Blade Lineage Salsu, Yi Sang. To the point that she recognizes his strength compared to hers, and acknowledges that it was by his recommendation that she even became such.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Before the release of the Yield My Flesh To Claim Their Bones event, Outis' Blade Lineage rank was that of a Cutthroat, which was also unique to her only.
  • Surpassed the Teacher: She mentions how she had been taught the very important lesson of striking at the waist first by her mentor. Who she subsequently mentions that she had killed.

G Corp. Head Manager

A version of Outis who became a soldier under the old G Corp.
  • Body Horror: As is custom for soldiers under G Corp. When using her third skill, Focus, a swarm of worm-like appendages burst from her back.
  • Horned Humanoid: Her most prominent mutations are two massive beetle-like horns protruding from her head, something she shares with the G Corp Head Manager encountered within the old District 4 L Corp Branch in Canto 1.
  • Just Following Orders: This is her justification for participating in the Smoke War under G Corp.'s employ. The judges at the military tribunal don't buy it.
  • The Scapegoat: After the end of the Smoke War in their timeline, Outis was apparently put up to trial and made to shoulder the blame for G Corp in order to ensure a smooth transition once the conflicts had ended.

Seven South Section 6 Director

A version of Outis who worked her way up to the position of Director of Section 6 of the Seven Association, even if it is fairly unglamorous.
  • Alternate Self: Outis's overall demeanor here as a Consummate Professional serving as a Mission Control of sorts over the phone 24/7, paired with her glasses and preference for a specific form of caffeine point to this version of Outis being a stand-in for Han Hee-joon.
  • Awesome by Analysis: Apparently how she got the position, from her ability to efficiently piece information together at a glance in her head — this is reflected in-game by her enemies clashing worse against her, her dealing bonus damage to targets weak to her damage types, and her applying a debuff that weakens enemy damage resistances.
  • Benevolent Boss: This version of Outis is actually a very reasonable superior. In her chatter lines she'll ask an employee go buy her a drink and give them enough money to get something for themself as well, and when she thinks her subordinate is getting too tired, she sends them home to rest and says they'll continue the conversation later.
  • Boring, but Practical: Seven Section Outis doesn't do anything terribly flashy and won't normally be doing large amounts of damage, but she's indisputably one of the best clashers in the game, possessing an innate ability to inflict any opponent she faces with -2 Clash Power. Thus, she can often clash against threats when it would be riskier to use a different Sinner.
  • Consummate Professional: Maintains a very professional demeanor, as opposed to her bootlicking base identity. She'll even skip lunch if she has work to make up.
  • Loophole Abuse: Her passive, Grasping Vulnerabilities, when activated, lets her deal 10% extra damage if the target is weak or fatal against the damage type she deals (either blunt or slash depending on the attack). Of course, this would fall off if facing an enemy that doesn't have any weak or fatal resistances...except when it's staggered, where it will always work when it's active, since staggered enemies are fatal against all damage types, essentially giving her extra 10% bonus damage.
  • Mythology Gag: Of course Outis would get an identity that seems to be based on the leader of the Seven Association reception in Library of Ruina, given that they were also named Dante.
  • Soul-Crushing Desk Job: Averted. While this Outis doesn't mind field work, she claims to actually prefer the comfort of her desk job.

Molar Office Fixer

A version of Outis who has taken the place of Olga from the Molar Office immediately prior to the events of Library of Ruina.
  • The Alcoholic: The only time of the day she isn't complaining about being hung over or thinking about going out drinking again is mid afternoon, when the hangover is clearing up and the pain is fresh in her mind.
  • Alternate Self: She replaces Olga wholesale, right down to the details such as being drunk or hungover for 70% of the day and the job from R Corp that leads directly into the office's inclusion in the events of the Library.
  • Springtime for Hitler: From the ID's story blurb, Outis (and Olga by extension) made the office in an attempt to have a fairly laid back source of income that left her plenty of time to enjoy her alcohol by grabbing a few open contracts at a time. Soon, people began to notice her REALLY high success rate due to the low overall number of jobs she'd taken, and her office was inundated with private requests and jobs that now give her little time for either relaxing or sleeping off her inevitable hangover.

Cinq South Section 4

A version of Outis who is a member of the Cinq Association.
  • Critical Hit Class: Similar to Sinclair, her skills grant her Poise buff to increase her Critical Hit chance.
  • Draw Aggro: Her skills also give her aggro to her skill slots, which can come handy especially if the target had previously been inflicted "Declared Duel" status by her, or to bait the enemy into falling for her powerful Haste-boosted Evade skill.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Two of her skills also grant her Haste, while the second skill allows her to debuff her target. At enough stacks, she is equally fast and hard-hitting.

Lobotomy E.G.O:: Magic Bullet

A version of Outis who became Captain of Lobotomy Corporation's Training Team alongside Don Quixote and wields the E.G.O of Der Freischütz.
  • Badass Longcoat: She wears the dark blue longcoat of Der Freischütz, adding to the Identity's association with the color blue and making her look like a professional.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Magic Bullet Outis is the first ID to be able to harm teammates without failing to meet certain requirements for her skills and is the second ID to have two skills of the same sin affinity (her second and third skills are both Pride skills).
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Magic Bullet Fire necessitates that you keep Magic Bullet Outis's Sanity at maximum much more than other Identities, given the direct SP drain which can trigger Unfriendly Fire if her SP reaches 10 or lower. If you can, though, you have one of the most powerful non-E.G.O. Area of Effect attacks in the game.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Her post-Uptie art features a wrecked Green Dawn unit behind her. Fittingly, her skills damage types and Sin Affinities are all ones the Ordeal's enemies are especially weak to, and she's very well-optimized to clear entire waves of them with the help of a Magic Bullet-boosted Magic Bullet Fire.
  • It's All About Me: Der Freischütz's final bullet always hits the person the user values most; and her Uptie story reveals it to be herself.
  • Loophole Abuse:
    • A double-edged version of this; Due to how Magic Bullet Fire's attack weight gain works, the Sunshower E.G.O. Gift doesn't work like it normally would with skills with more than one attack weight, but the Phantom Pain E.G.O. Gift works as if Magic Bullet Fire still has only one attack weight, allowing Magic Bullet Fire to deal extra damage to each enemy hit by it.
    • In story, this is how Outis manipulates her contract with Der Freischütz; by effectively gaslighting herself on who her loved ones are, she's able to use the cursed bullet without injuring her real allies. However, she must be mentally stable for this to be effective, as reflected by Magic Bullet Fire continuously draining her sanity.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Outis' 2nd and 3rd skills, Detonate Magic Bullet and Magic Bullet Fire, are unique among ammo based skills like Rabbit Heathcliff's skills and LCCB Ishmael and Ryōshū in that they gain ammo, a unique form at that called Magic Bullet, which increases by one up to seven each time they're used with each Magic Bullet increasing the Base and Coin Power of Magic Bullet Fire, and the skill gaining attack weight for each Magic Bullet, allowing it to hit more opponents at once. The downsides being that Outis loses Sanity proportional to how many stacks of Magic Bullet she has each time she uses Magic Bullet Fire, and Magic Bullet Fire has a Sanity threshold which causes it to become indiscriminate when her Sanity drops low enough, luckily to avoid any potential team wiping, the Magic Bullet stack resets after it's used with seven stacks. Additionally, so long as her SP is topped up, even at the max stacks of 7, she can avoid friendly fire (Friendly fire if 10 or less SP, 7 Magic Bullet will drain her of 30 SP, meaning indiscriminate targeting can be avoided as long as she has 41-45 SP)
  • Pistol-Whipping: Much like LCCB Ryoshu, Outis prefers to bludgeon enemies with Magic Bullet and only fires it in her third skill. Justified due to its capacity for Unfriendly Fire.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Outis has Magic Bullet's E.G.O Gift, a smoking pipe, which she uses at the start of Magic Bullet Fire.
  • Unfriendly Fire: Just like in Lobotomy Corporation, Magic Bullet is capable of this, fortunately, Outis only fires it in her third skill and mainly uses it as a bludgeon instead.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: A non-verbal one in Don's Lantern E.G.O. artwork, where she's utterly frustrated with an actual visible emote bubble of squiggles at the childish antics of her teammate's awe.

Wuthering Heights Chief Butler

A version of Outis who became the Chief Butler of Wuthering Heights.
  • Expy: Of Josephine, even adopting her zealous servitude to her mistress her other has.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: While not the first of Outis' IDs to be a Sinking ID (though much better at inflicting it than G Corp.   • Aborted Arc: Likely due to being the first Sinner to have a chapter focused on them, Gregor gets fairly negligible focus for a good portion of his own chapter before finding the Golden Bough, only to have the bough be the only one thus far to not be retrieved and for Gregor to not reach any real emotional catharsis or introspection. However, this could also be a thematic Mythology Gag to The Metamorphosis, where the Gregor of the book also ended his story in sudden Kafka Komedy way without closure.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Often refers to Dante as "Manager Bud".
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: When faced with death for the first time at the hands of Panther, he wearily tries to reason with his opponent to allow him to live. He gets a halberd through the chest for his trouble.

  • Arc Symbol: Fittingly for the source material, Gregor's Day in the Limelight involves heavy visual symbolism around apples once the team heads into the L Corp ruins, with Ebony Queens Apple and False Apple playing heavy roles in further tormenting him in some way, along with the eventual reveal that a teenage Gregor had spent hours upon days training his arm by just chopping apples apart in his locked room under Hermanns watch.
  • 13 Is Unlucky: The thirteenth sinner listed on the website who is not only a veteran of the catastrophic Smoke War but also left it with a grotesque and mutated insectoid arm, completely unable to return to a normal life thanks to a combination of social stigma, his mutations and all-around bad luck. In Season 1, his story, unlike Rodions and Sinclairs, is left incomplete and without any personal catharsis as he's left completely jaded over the failure of the mission, having to meet and/or kill the people from his past, and the gruesome death of his new friend. His alternate futures also tend to be some of the more overtly gruesome of the Sinners.
  • Affectionate Nickname: He calls Dante "Manager Bud".
  • Alternate Universe Reed Richards Is Awesome: Though some identities have him with even worse mutations than what he's plagued with currently, others depict alternate Gregors who have nicer arms and arguably better lives than he has.
  • Ambiguously Related: To Hermann, the G Corp scientist who experimented on him. They have similar hair colors and her name comes from Hermann Kafka, the father of Franz Kafka. While it could be considered confirmed by her outright calling herself his mother, it's not certain whether she was referring to them being biologically related, or just because of her being the one who experimented on him.
  • An Arm and a Leg: While his LCB and G Corp identities have his signature insectile arm, his other identities have a regular prosthetic where his arm would have been. This could imply that he has been missing his right arm since birth, or at least lost it at an early age, where his experimentation by G Corp regenerated it into an insect one.
  • Bad Liar: He’s pretty bad at bluffing people, which Rodya snarks at him over after two embarrassing failures.
    • The first time, he tries to both fake and rouse a slave uprising to buy the crew some time against the incoming J Corp. guards, but the guards are completely unconvinced of the danger, the slaves are in no mood to play along and the Sinners just let him embarrass himself.
    • The second time, he tries to convince Nagel und Hammer that he and the team are simple tourists on a trip (through a razed town) and his stammering only attracts more eyes from the Inquisitors and awkward silence from the rest of the crew.
  • Berserk Button: Anything involving Hermann. Given his relationship with her, it's not surprising.
    • In Canto VI, Gregor becomes outright pissed upon learning of Hermann's involvement in Wuthering Heights.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Being inspired by The Metamorphosis, his E.G.O causes parts of his body to turn insectile when in use, in an Involuntary Shapeshifting manner.
  • Blind Without 'Em: The degree to which his eyesight is bad has yet to be made clear, but Gregor has stated in-game to have myopia (nearsightedness), rather than his design being a case of Purely Aesthetic Glasses.
  • Body Horror: His E.G.O., "Suddenly, One Day", has this in spades. His insectile arm grows in size before positively bursting out of its rags in horrific fashion, transforming into a mutated claw.
  • Call-Back: His E.G.O., or at least the cast he keeps it in, is notably adorned with the various floor symbols of the Library across it. What this means, and what relation Gregor has to the Sephirah, has yet to be made clear.
    • Furthermore, his base E.G.O name is written in Hebrew (Franz Kafka was Jewish) instead of in German, the language Kafka wrote in.
  • Child Soldiers: Gregor is noted to have been participating in events related to war since he was at least fifteen. With his actual involvement possibly stretching back even further with the time he would've been experimented on by Hermann.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: During Hell's Chicken, it's shown his overreliance on canned rations and inability to coordinate the eccentric personalities on his team (in particular, Yi Sang and Don Quixote) result in his food being random heaps of bizarre ingredients comparable to the food waste found in a dumpster.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Canto I focuses on Gregor the most of all twelve Sinners, with the non-Abnormality enemies all being former members of G Corp who recognize him on sight and his memories of the Smoke War coming back to haunt him.
  • Detachment Combat: Using the E.G.O of Electric Centipede, AEDD, his insect arm is replaced with a smaller copy of Electric Centipede which does this to zap targets at a distance.
  • Dismemberment Is Cheap: Only for his insectile arm, though. Even if that one is cut off, it's only a matter of time before it grows back to the way it was.
  • The Everyman: Of the Sinners, he's the one most willing to work alongside Dante (and the only one who will freely and genuinely talk to them at any length) and generally is liked well enough among everyone in the group because Gregor is considerate enough not to step on any of their toes when making conversation.
  • The Face:
    • He serves as one for the Sinners; Gregor's standing front and center in promotional lineups, he's the first to properly introduce himself on account of being the closest to sit in the front, and he's the first Sinner to receive A Day in the Limelight through a Canto being dedicated to him. He even wound up being the first of the playable Sinners who can serve as an announcer instead of Dante (or Charon) as a reward from the Season 1 Limbus Pass. This could be invoked on some level, seeing as he's the most down to earth and normal in personality and can generally get along just fine with the rest of the group, with even his profile noting him to be much easier to work with than usual. Ironically, it doesn't take long for him to express his exhaustion at having to take the lead so often when Vergilius has the Sinners introduce themselves to Dante in order of who's the closest to the front of the bus.
    • He was the only G Corp. soldier to never have had his face made at all insectoid, instead only having his arm be visibly altered. Because of this, he became the symbol of G Corp. during the Smoke War, being plastered on magazines, billboards, and posters, and becoming a legend among lower-ranked soldiers.
  • Friend to Bugs: Probably not by choice, but he has a pet roach that’s consistently resting on him. One is always riding on his shoulder in his official artwork, in his talksprites, and it is usually hidden somewhere within his identities' artworks
  • Gallows Humor: He admits that his tendency to snark and make dark jokes is because of his terrible past.
  • Glass Cannon: Most of Gregor's IDs revolve around doing an assload of damage to any unfortunate victim in his path. However, he also has less health than most others in exchange, meaning he can't afford to lose clashes.
  • Gratuitous German: The English translation at times has him say German words.
  • Hates Their Parent: An attitude that's rather understandable when said parent is responsible for both experimenting on his body by fusing his genetics with insect DNA and then forcing him to be a propaganda poster boy and child soldier.
  • Healing Factor: His insectoid arm is able to quickly grow back whenever cut off. Reflected in-game by the passives of his base Identity and E.G.O, both of which heal him.
  • Hypocritical Humor: He snarks at Dante barely avoiding calling him "bug guy", noting that it's like him calling Dante "clock face" instead of their name. He then immediately calls Charon "bus girl", which she snarks at him about, with him and Dante sharing a laugh about it.
  • In Spite of a Nail: While all Sinners have constants that they share between Mirror Worlds (such as Ishmael's ribbon or Don Quixote's shoes) Gregor is hit with it the most - no matter what, his right arm will ALWAYS be prosthetic or non-human in some form, be it his bug arm (regular Identity, G Corp Identity), prosthetic arms (Liu, Sous Chef, Zwei, etc) or a weapon prosthetic (Rosespanner, Twinhook Pirate).
  • Involuntary Shapeshifting: The manual notes that heightened emotions and shifts in environment can cause him to partially (or even completely) transform into an insectile being.
  • Ironic Fear: Gregor, a man with an insect's forearm, is genuinely repulsed and petrified of insects, heavily implied to come from his own horrible experience at G Corp. and his nightmarish brothers-in-arms during the Smoke War. Whenever swarming insects are involved, Gregor is noted to be visibly nervous, and one encounter has the team pass by an entire hallway full of roaches that will cause Gregor to lose 20 sanity points if they're ordered to walk directly through them.
  • Jack of All Trades: His base Identity is this, with pretty good speed at 3-7, a middling health value, decently good offensive and defensive levels close to being on par with Outis and Meursault respectively, and a set of skills and passives that all feed into each other and make him self-sufficient.
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind: While exploring the ruined Lobotomy Corporation site, the Sinners are transported into a scenario based off Gregor's memories of the Smoke War; at one point, they're even chased by Hermann's giant hands, only being able to escape the scenario when Gregor acknowledges he was never actually able to run from her when it all happened in the first place and letting the hands grab the protagonists.
  • Kafka Komedy: Deconstructed: being based on Franz Kafka's most famous work, Gregor is an ultimately decent and friendly guy who was put into horrible situations and had his life ruined by outside forces beyond his control, and it's played for all the horror it's worth. He has a tendency to crack jokes to lighten the mood, though he admits it's a coping mechanism.
  • Malaproper: Has shades of this whenever he calls people by name, such as calling Seigfried "Zack Friture" or Aida from the mariachis as "Ayeda from the merry archils".
  • Mess of Woe: Downplayed, in that while he’s no slob, he’s not bothering with his appearance much. He’s got scruffy facial hair, his head hair is unkempt and his uniform is a bit more disheveled than the rest of the crew.
    • Flashbacks to his time just after the Smoke War show him in a much worse state. With scruffy, unkempt hair and a very obvious unshaven stubble, along with him wearing a dingy hoodie.
  • Nice Guy: Snarky humor and cynical tendencies aside, Gregor is among the nicest of the Sinners. He's the one of the few to immediately accept Dante as his superior and tries to make them feel welcome aboard the bus, in contrast to many of the other Sinners who make their dysfunctional attitudes clear almost immediately. Dante takes a liking to him early on because of this, which is reflected by them sitting in front of Gregor in most of the bus's CG shots.
  • Odd Friendship: He's one of the few Sinners who's actually friendly with Dante, to the point they actually sit next to each other on the bus. Out of all the Sinners, Gregor is one Dante seems to feel the most comfortable actively joking around and bantering with, while Gregor doesn't hold any of their failings as a manager against them, likely due to his backstory making him far more sympathetic to Dante's situation than the others.
  • Only Sane Man: Most of the Sinners consider themselves the rational one of the team. With Gregor, it's probably true given his lack of eccentricities, self-destructive tendencies, or closeted insanity. Considering Gregor himself is a traumatized war veteran with a cockroach leg for an arm, it's really saying something when he's considered the normal one of the group.
  • Organ Autonomy: One downside of Gregor's insect arm is that it's highly reactive to any excessive stimulation or strong emotions he experiences, more often than not entirely against his will. With the worst example witnessed being in a flashback where he's literally struggling against his own body when it erupts and almost impales an innocent civilian, begging for someone to cut it off so he can't hurt anyone. It's even got such a hair-trigger that it can be activated by dancing.
  • Parrot Pet Position: While he insists he doesn't know how it got there, he has a roach resting on his shoulder. This roach also appears more often than his insect arm in his other Identities.
  • Partial Transformation: A particular theme with Gregor is his right arm, which in his base identity, is insectoid. his other identities not related to G Corp are given different kinds of prosthetics instead, but the most notable trait is this arm seems to resonate more with EGO, as every EGO transformation of his focuses primarily on transfiguring it.
    • Suddenly, One Day leaves his arm wrapped in the striped sinner cloth shared by all basic EGO, growing in size before a more monstrous arm bursts out of it.
    • Legerdemain transforms his arm into a tree branch with a golden apple attached to the end of it. When corroded, the apple becomes red and maggot-infested.
    • Lantern transforms his arm into a bundle of tree branches which he can extend to impale the enemy.
    • AEDD replaces his arm with a robotic centipede that he can detach to do a long ranged electrical attack. Corrosion turns both his arms into centipedes, his right arm being electrified to boot.
    • Garden of Thorns turns his arm into a bony claw covered in roses and brambles.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: He's a veteran of the Smoke War, and has lingering trauma from the war itself, the comrades he lost during the war, and the horrible experiments G Corp did on him and the other employees.
  • The Short Guy with Glasses: He’s very noticeably short, and unlike Sinclair it’s definitely not because of his age. While not brilliant like the trope entails, he’s the most grounded and rational of the otherwise irrational team.
  • Smoking Is Cool: While not explicitly a chain-smoker like Ryōshū, Gregor is frequently seen with a cigarette in his mouth in official art.
  • Super-Soldier: His insectoid arm is a result of being experimented on by the previous G Corp, something which was done to all of their military personnel. Even among the other soldiers, however, he's especially super, having a Healing Factor and being the only soldier to not have his face disfigured by insectoid features in some manner, making him into The Face for the war effort.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: He's the second-smallest male sinner and definitely under the average height, and is often paired up in borderline Ship Tease with Rodya, the tallest female Sinner and second tallest overall.
  • Unfriendly Fire: Discussed if he is selected to do a check that he has a very low chance of passing:
    Gregor: ...So you were the kind of boss to get fragged by their own men.
  • The Un-Smile: His smile is described as "unpracticed" and causes his eyebrows to bunch up. Despite him genuinely trying to appear friendly, it usually does little to calm the nerves of whoever he is smiling at.
  • Unwitting Test Subject: He was subjected to bio-enhancement surgeries at around age 15, and his arm is the result. He makes it very clear this was not something he wanted at all.
  • Weapon Wields You: One flashback from his past involves his insectoid arm lashing out and trying to kill an innocent woman after the war. He yells at another person to cut the arm off, but his Healing Factor causes it to instantly regrow.

Identities

G Corp. Manager Corporal

A version of Gregor where his insect mutations never stopped, and he remained a loyal soldier of G Corp.
  • Blood-Splattered Warrior: His torn uniform is soaked in blood, most of it more than likely his enemies than himself.
  • Body Horror: G Corp. Manager Gregor explores this in greater detail in comparison to his Limbus Company self. He now has two serrated insect scythe-arms so large he may as well be quadrupedal and roach wings hang and twitch uselessly off his back.
  • Empty Shell: The end result of his service to G Corp. He’s been reduced to an animalistic mental state, unlike the sane yet cynical LC Gregor.
  • Life Drain: His entire schtick. All of his skills heal him under the right conditions, while also dealing considerable amounts of damage. His third skill can even make him heal equal to all of the damage he dealt with its last coin. Might be Gameplay and Story Integration if his normal self's Healing Factor arm extends to this Identity's bug limbs.
  • Never Found the Body: Outis's G Corp. Identity expresses surprise at seeing their "old wartime hero" as a part of Limbus Company, as he apparently disappeared as soon as the war had ended with no one having any idea where he went off to.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: How he is presented as a G Corp. Recruit, constantly standing at attention and talking about how proud and honored he is to be working for G Corp, confident that G Corp. and its work. His loyalty is rewarded by turning him into a near mindless killing machine.

Liu South Section 6

A version of Gregor who joined the Liu Association and has a proper prosthetic arm instead of the insectile one like his prime counterpart.
  • Couldn't Find a Lighter: Gregor claims he uses the fire generated by his arm this to light his own cigarettes. He's offered to do this for Ryōshū as well, but she refuses.
  • Damage Over Time: As standard for Liu members, he specializes in dealing incendiary damage and Damage Over Time against opponents.
  • Feel No Pain: In regards to his artificial arm, anyways. He claims that not feeling anything there is beneficial to his combat process, and as long as he doesn't feel any pain there, he's invincible.
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: His backstory has him fend off a group of guys who tried to ambush him on the street, and while he shows mercy at first, the group ends up pushing him too far.
    Ruffian: How does it make sense for a scraggly prune like you to beat up eight healthy young people?
    Gregor: Prune, huh. Listen, youngster... You've got much nicer words around — experienced, maybe veteran — you hear me?
    Ruffian: And-And you're short as hell, too!
    Gregor: Short...
    Ruffian: Plus you look like a total mess!
    Gregor : Hey now, that’s not true at all...
    Ruffian: Yes it is, no cap! Your beard's on that five-month shadow, and your hair's a damn bird's nest! You-
  • Lighter and Softer: Compared to his Limbus Company self as a beaten down and shell-shocked mercenary, and his G Corp. self who's an Empty Shell soon to be mutated beyond recognition, his Liu Association self gets off easy by giving him an affluent career and finally having his mutated arm removed, giving him a completely functional prosthetic hand. He seems fairly content in this version of his future. It makes sense, as Liu Association's fighting style requires its members to be in control of their emotions in order to effectively build up to a powerful catharsis.
  • Mundane Utility: He tends to use the flames generated from the Liu's ignition tech to light up his cigarettes. He sees nothing wrong with this and thinks of it as a neat feature, while Ryōshū comments on how "unartistic" it is.
  • Power Fist: Unlike his other versions, this Gregor sports a prosthetic arm in place of his insect claw in accordance with the Liu Section's dress code and battle style.

R.B. Sous-chef

A version of Gregor who became a cannibal and became an apprentice under Ryōshū though she often gets on his nerves for how he does things. He's just as ambitious as her, however, and bids his until he learned all he can from her.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: The original Jack cares dearly for Pierre, and the two would had been mistaken for a lovely couple... if not for them running a cannibal bistro. Here, just like Ryōshū, the two are willing to backstab and kill each other.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Not satisfied to simply be cooking and serving human flesh pies, this Gregor has a desire to kill and usurp Ryōshū's spot as head chef and take over the Bistro for himself. The only reason he hasn't done so yet is he's still watching her work so he can steal her cooking secrets for himself.
  • An Arm and a Leg: This Gregor has a prosthetic arm, with a mention he lost the old one. It's heavily insinuated that however it was he lost it, it was eaten, due to the nature of this District's Backstreets.
  • Bastard Understudy: He's just waiting for the opportunity to kill Ryōshū the moment he's learned her tricks of the trade.
  • Chef of Iron: A skilled cook who can handle a cleaver both in cooking and fighting.
  • Evil Chef: Or at least an evil sous-chef, on account of he takes part in the killing and cooking of humans for food.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Along with his boss Chef Ryōshū, this identity makes his living killing humans and turning their meat into pies.
  • Luring in Prey: As part of his duties in the bistro, part of Gregor's job is acquiring fresh "ingredients". His most common trick appearing to be riling someone up on the Backstreets, then making a run for it to lure them in when they try to kill him. Only for them to realize too late that they've run headlong into his "workshop", right where he wants them.
  • Mythology Gag: This identity is based off of Jack from Library Of Ruina, as the two share the same outfit and the title of sous-chef, working under a chef who cooks with human meat. Much like Jack, he also regenerates health at the start of the turn and his kit revolves around healing and Bleed as well as a bit of Paralysis and Bind.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: It's made very apparent that neither he nor Ryōshū like each other in the slightest as people or as fellow chefs. The only reason he has yet to try anything against her is because he still has things he needs to get out of her before any attempted usurpation of the bistro.

Rosespanner Workshop Fixer

A version of Gregor who became a Fixer under the Rosespanner Workshop Office. He tirelessly does wet work jobs for the office in the hopes he'll one day making his own workshop product that will be approved by the Tres Association and striking it big. He also has a prosthetic arm like many of the other Gregors, albeit one that tends to malfunction.
  • Exhausted Eyebags: Sports these like his coworker Meursault. However, rather than being a result of neverending deskwork, it's the workshop's fieldwork. He one day also wishes to secure funds for his dream of submitting an invention for the Tres Association.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: Malevolent is a strong word but he wears a high-collared shirt that covers his face when off doing the Rosespanner's wetwork. His uptie story gives a grisly glimpse into one of such missions.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Always has a cup of coffee and a cig after returning from a job well done.

Zwei South Section 4

A version of Gregor that joined the Zwei Association's southern division. Having his arm replaces with a prosthetic (as is usual for Gregor IDs at this point), he acts as the client's closest bodyguard — in other words, the last one between any assailants and them. His personality is largely unchanged, including his rather informal manner of speech.
  • Alternate Universe Reed Richards Is Awesome: Compared to the traumatized, cynical war veteran who feels he has no control over his life and laments his failure to protect Yuri, this version of Gregor leads a much more fulfilling life where his desire to protect others has manifested into a successful career as a Zwei Association Fixer. Compared to his main universe counterpart whose wit is at least partially a coping mechanism, Zwei Gregor's humorous attitude is born from genuinely finding joy in life.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: He seems like a bit of a bum, asking his clients for lights for smokes, meal breaks, and complains about working unreasonable hours. However, he has a sixth sense for danger and a prosthetic arm that's strong even by City standards, and the second he's needed he'll drop everything and fulfill his contract.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: His uptie story shows that he plays up his casual attitude on purpose to try and lure his client's assailants into attacking.
  • Stone Wall: Whilst this trope is essentially the Zwei's hat as a whole, Zwei Gregor is especially adept at this, as not only do all his skills give him Defense Up, his first skill gives him Shield HP on clash lose (giving him a chance to tank whatever he lost a clash to), his second skill and defense skill give him Aggro to redirect enemy attacks, and his third skill provides Defense Up to all allies.
  • Uniformity Exception: The only Zwei ID so far which doesn't feature another Sinner making a cameo in the pre-Uptie art.

Twinhook Pirates First Mate

A version of Gregor who takes the place of Smee as the first mate of the Twinhook Pirates. This Gregor's arm is replaced by a giant hook, and he oversees the Twinhook Pirates while the captain drowns himself in fairy wine.

Kurokumo Clan Captain

A version of Gregor who fights among the ranks of the Kurokumo Clan.
  • A Father to His Men: Zig-zagged with Drill Sergeant Nasty. While he has shown to be rather hard and strict on his underlings, he rewards them with drinks in the event they perform perfectly, and shows that he does also carry some level of genuine care for those under his command.
  • The Alcoholic: A heavy drinker to cope with the stress of managing his Kurokumo underlings and his pre-uptie art depicts him drunkenly slouched on a table. It's said he holds drinking parties nearly every day.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Rarely sober but when the situation calls for it he can snap out of his drunken stupor at the drop of a hat. And even if it's in service of his nature as a Blood Knight he's also good at sizing up his opponents.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Zig-zagged with A Father to His Men. While he has shown to reward his underlings for doing well, he'll turn around and chastise them constantly for so much as disturbing him, threatening severe punishment in the event of a failed battle, and will even still get onto them in the event the fight is won, but was "done sloppily" (rather, was completed any way but flawlessly).
  • Mythology Gag: The eyepatch he wears is the exact same one Gin wears in Library of Ruina.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: On par with other Kurokumo identities, Clan Captain Gregor sees him as much more crass and cruel than his other counterparts.
