S3, P1 - Ep 6: Truth, Lies, and The Inbetween – Part 1
As All For One recalls his past, he gets Julia up to speed on what has happened since her death. Meanwhile, Eda is trying to figure out Toshiko's motives and what to do with her.
This chapter contains examples of:
- Adaptational Badass: Eda has been working on controlling the Owl Beast rather than supressing it, since during the war now. So far it has gained her a Healing Factor and can temporarily control the One-Winged Angel form for a limited time without losing her mind.
- And Show It to You: Eda was on the receiving end of this during the war, courtesy of All For One. Luckily, he didn't crush it, which allowed her her curse's Healing Factor to save her from certain death.
- Asshole Victim: Considering what he did to Aiya and promoted Fantastic Racism, you can't help but cheer for All For One killing his father to avenge his mother, his brother and himself. Even Nice Guy Yoichi wanted to give him a beating, only stopped by his weak body.
- Child by Rape: Rikitasu and Yoichi were not happy to learn that they brother were a result of this.
- Connected All Along: All For One worked alongside the MLA and Yakuza to fight against the repressive government towards Quirk users. Its highly likely the supervillain personally met Destro, too.
- Corrupt Politician: Tamashiki was a member of parliament that promoted a Super Registration Act that would put a widespread ban on Meta-Humans doing basic things, like going to school. That's not even going into what he did to the mother of his children.
- Cursed with Awesome: In this story, Eda's curse grants her a potent Healing Factor that makes her almost unkillable, save destroying her heart or brain.
- Cynicism Catalyst: Even after 24 years she's still haunted by her inadvertently bringing All For One to her people's doorstep and started a bloody war. So much so that she keeps a very close eye on Toshiko.
- Delicate and Sickly: He was born this and didn't get much better in adulthood even with weights training.
- Dirty Coward: When confronted by his sons and being held by the neck by Rikitasu, Tamashiki attempted to use his position to get out of death, which practically falls on deaf ears.
- Disappeared Dad: Tamashiki was never around for his sons, and likely didn't know they existed until they tracked him down when became full-grown men.
- Disappointed in You: Yoichi expresses his great dismay to his brother on how he squandered his own Quirk and his potential to be a good person. All For One had such a great capacity to do good with his power, and instead chose to inflict suffering by taking everything he could get his hands on for himself and Yoichi. He flat out told All For One that countless lives could have been saved if he chose to be a force for good.
- Drugs Are Bad: To mellow her pain, Aiya had started taking drugs, and did whatever it was that she had to do to live. This didn't help her at all.
- Due to the Dead: Averted. The Shigaraki brothers leave his corpse in an alleyway where Rikitatsu murdered and robbed him.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Despite being a Card-Carrying Villain that had done many crimes, he firmly believes that Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil and Pædo Hunt is abhorrent just like anyone else. This was the reason why he murdered his biological father.Rikitatsu had no morals, that much was obvious. But even then he knew where to draw the line. Sure, killing, maiming, and all of that fun stuff. He condoned that. Even human experimentation to a degree. But there were just some crimes that someone didn’t commit. Even someone like Rikitatsu, who despite the fact that he was a police officer who actively committed crimes in his free time, knew that committing those crimes made you an animal.
- Everyone Has Standards:
- While he wanted to give his deadbeat dad an ass-kicking for what did to their family, Yoichi was not in board with his brother plan to just straight up murder the man.
- Julia is horrified when All For One tells her Luz slaughtered her killers, not wanting her friend to commit murder in her name even if it was to avenge her murder.
- Despite being distrustful of her intentions, Eda allows Toshiko to spend a few nights in her house, not wanting the girl to live out on the streets. She's also reluctant to hand her over to Emperor Belos, seeing him as the scumbag he is. She's also responsible enough to not give alcoholic drinks to a minor.
- Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Judging from his tone, All For One doesn't seem to quite understand why Luz would feel remorse for killing people in self-defence or to avenge her loved ones as he believes that's nothing to feel sorry for.
- Fantastic Racism: Tamashiki is extremely racist against metahumans, being a staunch advocate for their rights to be revoked.
- Feeling Their Age: Eda is now getting too old to keep up with training King and was also starting to get significantly weaker than him to challenge him.
- Good Is Not Soft: Despite being disturbed by his brother killing him, he admits if it wasn't his weak body he'd join Rikitatsu in giving their father a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown for what he did to their birth mother.
- Hate Sink: A rapist and corrupt parliament member that abandoned his sons on the streets to fend for themselves, Tamashiki ends up being the only person that All For One is genuinely disgusted with. No one will mourn him.
- Hates Their Parent: Not to the same level as Rikitasu, but Yoichi admitted he would have given his father a trashing for the suffering he caused his mother, brother and himself.
- Godzilla Threshold: Eda considers handing Toshiko over to Belos as this if she turns out like Rikitatsu. But she would only do that if she had no choice, just the thought of handing anyone over to that man made her stomach churn and went against her morals.
- I Have No Son!: Aiya's parents disowned her just for having a Quirk.
- Justified Criminal: After she was disowned by her parents before she could finish school, Aiya had to resort to petty theft, prostitution, and drug smuggling to make a living.
- Magical Homeless Person: Ever since Aiya gained a Quirk, her parents kicked her out of their house and forced to live on the streets.
- Master of Illusion: Its only thanks to her illusion spell that Eda survived her last battle with All For One when she was mortally wounded by him.
- Named by the Adaptation: Unlike the manga, the Shigaraki brothers' mother is given the name Aiya Kagurami.
- Neck Snap: This is how All For One killed his father. Justified as he had a Super-Strength Quirk.
- Never Be Hurt Again: She keeps a close eye on Toshiko and is planning contingency plans to make sure another war doesn't happen thanks to a Shigaraki because she failed to stop them."Too many people died because of him. She wasn’t going to let a repeat event happen. Especially not if she could help it. Doubly so if it wound up being because of her. Again."
- Not Quite Dead: All for One thought she had killed the Owl Lady after mortally wounding her in their last battle but had survived thanks to the curse and had to resort to Playing Possum.
- Oh, Crap!: Tamashiki’s eyes widened, bloodshot and panic-filled when Rikitatsu revealed the two young men about to kill him are his biological sons and know what he did to their birth mother.
- Pædo Hunt: Tamashiki impregnated Aiya when she was 16 and he was in his mid-20s. All For One is particularly disgust at this fact.
- Parental Abandonment: Yoichi and especially All For One are angry that their deadbeat dad left them to live on streets by themselves.
- Patricide: Tamashiki is murdered by his Child by Rape, Rikitasu Shigaraki a.k.a. All For One, under the knowledge that he had abandoned him, his mother and brother after his crime on Aiya.
- Pet the Dog:
- All For One plays a game of Uno with Julia with no strings attached.
- Despite being suspicious of her, Eda allows Toshiko to stay at her house for a few days due to being homeless and gives a new set of more durable clothes to wear that she kept when was in school.
- Power Parasite: All For One (Awakened) allows Toshiko can steal and redistribute Quirks from others, or, keep them for herself. Now that it is awakened, All For One can also steal Magic from Witches, as they are genetically very similar to Quirks. As a result, any magic that All For One steals will be transformed into a Quirk for the user's convenience. For example, if All For One steals an Abomination Spell, then Toshiko will receive a Liquid-related Quirk based on how Abomination Magic functions. On top of this, any Quirk that exists within All For One will be automatically awakened due to All For One itself now being Awakened. The amount of Quirks that the user can hold is still limited to the user’s threshold but can be expanded based on the physical health of the user. The original limit, however, is doubled after awakening. (Toshiko’s current limit – 30 Quirks, 17 slots taken).
- Absurdly Sharp Claws: Spear Fingers (Awakened) allows Toshiko to shoot out her fingers like spears. These spears are omnidirectional and heat-seeking. They can go for, up to, 5 miles ahead of Toshiko. They can pierce through tungsten steel (a metal denser than the Earth’s Crust) like its butter, but they melt easily in fire.
- Barrier Warrior: Forcefield Projection (Awakened) allows Toshiko to generate bigger and stronger forcefields that can absorb damage up to that of a thermo-nuclear missile (28 Megatons) and, upon shooting out the forcefield, it'll do double the damage (52 Megatons). Of note, the more shields are created, the less they can absorb and dish out.
- Feels No Pain: Pain Nullification (Awakened) makes Toshiko immune to all forms of pain, regardless of where it comes from. Cut her limb off? Nothing happened. Head knocked off their shoulders? Unless she doesn’t die right away, to them, it means nothing. Shoot her in the heart? Same verse as the first, did you just do something? Break half of her body instantly? Well, that looks ugly, still don’t feel anything. You get the point.
- Gravity Master: Zero Gravity (Awakened) by touching an object, person, or animal, Toshiko can remove the gravity of said object, person, and animal. By flexing her muscles, however, they can spread this infinitely, and there no longer is a weight limit behind how much Zero Gravity can remove.
- Having a Blast: Bombify (Awakened) allows Toshiko to plant a bomb on the person she touches that'll instantly blow up upon Toshiko willing it so. This bomb will destroy them at an atomic level, leaving nothing but smoke. However, the bomb’s power relies on the anger that she's feeling at that moment. This anger can be directionless, but if Toshiko is specifically angry at the person the bomb is attached to, then it'll be extremely effective on them.
- Healing Factor: Super Regeneration (Awakened) can recover Toshio's body from every form of injury so long as even so much as a single speck of DNA is left of her, and so long as its usable. Of note, if both the heart and the brain are destroyed at the same time, not a millisecond before or a millisecond later, then Toshiko will die immediately, and by being destroyed, that means they both have to be reduced to atoms, not even a single scrap of either can remain if you wish to put Toshiko down for good. Toshiko can also use this power through touch, similar to the Quirk “Repair” and heal others, though to a far more limited capacity.
- Long-Lived: Longevity (Awakened) grants Toshiko's lifespan an increase by 12 fold. For example, if Toshiko lives up to 89 years, she'll now live up to 1,068 years old. On top of this, her appearance based on her age is slower than the actual age she is. For example, if she's 18 years old, she'll still appear as she were at 13 years old. Physically, she’ll stop aging at what she’d appear at 25 years old, and her brain won't degrade after fully growing into its own, effectively making Toshiko immortal until she expires. Of note, this lifespan can increase should she take proper care of her body.
- Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Multiplier (Awakened) allows Toshiko to sprout up to 100 extra bus-sized limbs out of her body. These limbs can use other Quirks, so long as they originate from Toshiko's hands, with the only exception being All For One, as it is attached to the original limbs of Toshiko.
- Not Quite Flight: Airwalk (Awakened): Toshiko can, quite literally, walk on air.
- Playing with Fire: Flamethrower (Awakened) grants complete mastery over the flames she can generate. For example, Toshiko can shoot out a beam of fire that can get up to 5,730 degrees Celsius (10,340 degrees Fahrenheit). Toshiko is also highly resistant to flames of that temperature or lower. Past that, and the flames will actually be able to burn Toshiko.
- Space Master: Limitless (Awakened) lets Toshiko shoot out Energy Balls of Red (a miniature ball of destruction capable of destroying multiple large buildings at once), Blue (a miniature Blackhole that can suck up 500 newtons of material before imploding unless Toshiko wills it to blow up prematurely), and Purple (a massive ball of destruction that can destroy everything in its path for up to 50 miles ahead of Toshiko, before blowing up in a multi-city spanning explosion, though this depends on how much it sucks up in the process of travelling that 50 miles). It's primary function is the ability to distort space with these energy balls.
- Spring Coil: Springlike Limbs (Awakened) allows Toshiko to coil her limbs like springs and jump high distances (250 Miles into the air). They can even shoot out concentrated air blasts by coiling their arms back and springing out immediately afterward. Winds produced can level a street instantly.
- Super-Strength: (Awakened) Toshiko’s physical strength is increased 100,000,000,000 fold (100 Billion. A big number, but a big number doesn’t necessarily mean good). If, say, for example she can naturally punch down a wall before accepting this Quirk, Toshiko will now be able to wipe out a country in a single punch should she put everything into that punch. However, if it over exceeds what her body can handle, it could lead to repercussions to her own body, if the body can't physically handle such a blow, then dishing out this kind of strength might cost Toshiko a limb or multiple, so learning to control this unparalleled strength is a must so that they do not inadvertently hurt themselves.
- Super-Toughness: Shock Absorption (Awakened) allows Toshiko can take up 58 Megatons of force (the same force that the Tsar Bomb would unleash upon the world if it detonated) at once. However, its Shock Absorption, not nullification, so if repeated blows can surpass such a yield of destruction, and if its focused, then the attacker will break through Shock Absorption for a few seconds. Shock Absorption also doesn’t mean that her skin cannot be broken. The human body is naturally squishy, so it can still be pierced. It just means that the impact of the blow will be lessened by a wide margin. Of note: Light-based attacks seem to cleave through the user regardless of power output.
- Teleportation with Drawbacks: Warping (Awakened) so long as Toshiko knows where a specific person is, she can either do one of two things - warp herself to them, or them to Toshiko. Of note, this can work through other dimensions as well, but only with the condition that Toshiko has seen their face in person, and knows their current location.
- Victory by Endurance: Stamina Negation (Awakened) can allow Toshiko go without sleep for up to a month, and can go the same without food or water. Toshiko still needs these things to survive, but she doesn't need them for a long time.
- Vine Tentacles: Vines (Awakened) sprouts thorny vines from the base of Toshiko's fingers. They can grow and shrink to whatever size, weight, girth, or appearance that Toshiko wishes. By stomping on the ground, Toshiko can have the vines spawn from underneath her. The vines can grow to upwards of 5 miles past Toshiko before they can't grow any further.
- Posthumous Character: Its been over a century since the Shigaraki brothers' parents died.
- Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: Tamashiki's sexual assault on Aiya is something All For One takes very personally, as she was his mother.
- Rich Bitch: Tamashiki was well-off with job as a politician and used his position to try and take away the rights of Quirk users.
- Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: He tries to invoke this on Rikitatsu to get him to spare his life. This doesn't work on the Card-Carrying Villain.
- Small Role, Big Impact: Tamashiki's only introduced in a flashback at the beginning of Chapter 29, but his "actions" lead to the birth of not only the first One For All wielder but also his brother, All For One himself, Japan's most dangerous supervillain.
- Super-Toughness: King can also bathe in the boiling waters with no problem.
- Teen Pregnancy: At the age of 17, Aiya died giving birth to her sons.
- Trauma Conga Line: Aiya's entire life was nothing but a long series of miseries. She gets disowned by her parents and kicked out onto streets for having a Quirk before she even graduated high school. There she became a homeless drug addict and was forced to become a prostitute and steal to survive. She was often taken advantage of many older men, including Tamashiki Shigaraki. Her life comes to an end Aiya died giving birth to her sons, who she wasn't aware she was carrying until the very late stage of her pregnancy.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Aiya ended up giving birth to All For One - which might not have been so bad if she hadn't died in childbirth, leaving him and his brother to grow up on the streets.
- Villains Never Lie: All For One doesn't even bother trying to lie to Julia on what has happen to Luz, her father and Gravesfield since her murder.
- War Is Hell: Eda certainly has this opinion after fighting in a 10-year long war. Now, she'll do whatever it takes to prevent another one.
- Would Hurt a Child:
- Aiya was just 16 years old...
- Eda resolves she may have to kill Toshiko if she turns out like All For One.
