The protagonist, Glenn runs a clinic specializing in monsters in the town of Lindworm.

  • Accidental Pervert: Though much less common than him arousing patients or being caught in awkward situations without context, he at least once stumbled upon a girl in a state of undress before said girl entered Pervert Revenge Mode, specifically catching the sight of Memé's underwear when she accidentally tears her loincloth off.
  • Ambiguously Human: His sister, Sioux, was born with a condition called Demonitis, which causes the person to take on various attributes of oni. The condition is said to be the result of humans having intermarried with demons long ago, which puts into question just how human he actually is. In Volume 5, he ponders if he could build up strength like Sioux if he really tried, even though he didn't inherit her puberty-induced horns, and at another point he carries her with surprising ease, making him think he may have a bit of demon/oni strength in him.
  • Celibate Hero: At first, he seems like a Chaste Hero, but as the story goes on, it becomes clear that he very much notices the other girls' advances, especially Sapphee's, but thanks to the fact Cthulhy put in a "no fraternization" rule when it comes to her support, he's deliberately avoiding their advances, at least until he can financially support himself.
  • Chick Magnet: He has a gradually expanding list of women that show varying levels of interest in him, with many of those girls also growing to genuinely be in love with him. However, while he's quite aware of their feelings, at least once they outright mention said interest (being evasive about it like Lulala will leave him confused), he's fully intent on staying a Celibate Hero for as long as he has Cthulhy's backing since she'll kick him out if he tries anything "funny". As a result, none of the girls that are in love with him have a chance until he reaches the point of being financially self-sufficient.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: While he's a Covert Pervert that secretly enjoys the sight and feeling of the bodies of monster girls, he's both a complete professional and total gentleman, with him refusing to ogle or fondle his female patients, with or without their permission, along with defying any attempts by his patients to make him go any further with them besides providing an examination. He may appreciate affection from the girls, but doing so while he's doctoring them is off the table.
  • Covert Pervert:
    • Despite putting on the image of a guy that is completely unperturbed by seeing and touching the bodies of women, beneath that facade he actually is very much affected by how alluring all the girls he interacts with are, especially big-breasted monster girls.
    • While Lorna is the one that was quite happy to be tied up in bondage, the fact that Glenn was the person that thought of the idea to bind her in the first place, along with being able to ascertain she would like it, gives some credibility to Lorna's claim that Glenn was also into it.
    • Even as Glenn futilely struggles to escape from Arahnia's bindings when she first declares she plans to ravish him, he admits to himself her body is outstanding, and is more concerned about just how he is going to apologize to Sapphee than he is about not wanting Arahnia to have her way with him.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Downplayed but present. As a monster doctor, his specialty lies in dealing with the biology of various inhuman races. He has some rudimentary ability to help out other humans and occult-based beings, but he's quite blatant about the fact that he works best with monsterfolk, so anything specifically involving human-based biology or the supernatural he will redirect to doctors that fall under those specialties. This is similar to doctors in real life, with many being specialized in one or two professions and only having basic knowledge in other areas.
  • Exposed to the Elements: His regular attire includes shorts that go just past the knees and sandals, exposing his feet and legs, which he doesn't change out of even when he goes somewhere really cold like the Vivre Mountains. Despite the exposure, however, he is completely unaffected by the freezing temperatures, unlike Sapphee who was chilly even with a warm silk coat, and Tisalia who caught a cold. Given the later reveal that he has demon blood in his veins, one of the traits from that being naturally producing high levels of excess body heat due to their Super-Strength, there's implication that this is why the cold didn't bother him.
  • Florence Nightingale Effect: To be expected from a Harem Genre doctor protagonist, several of his patients end up developing a crush on or falling in love with him after he's taken care of them, with the biggest example being Sapphee, who is the first person he ever healed back when they were Childhood Friends, and is also the most strongly in love with him out of all his suitors.
  • Has a Type: According to Molly, Glenn is particularly attracted to girls with large breasts and nonhuman features, and when he denies it, she shows herself off to confirm the reaction she expected (raised heart rate and body temperature and such).
  • Ignore the Fanservice: While he very much notices how cute and attractive the girls he helps out are, he intentionally ignores all of that whenever he has work to do, even if that means working on women's "sensitive" areas or doing things that arouse them without giving any sort of reaction to what he's doing to them, only acknowledging his actions once he's done. Though he does admit that even if it doesn't show on his face, he's still internally affected by their sexual overtures and occasional aroused reactions to treatments.
  • Improbable Age: 17 years old at the start of the series and already running a medical clinic. While a large part of why he could do so at that age is because Cthulhy provided both the clinic and the backing to keep it open, he's still acting as a capable and competent doctor for numerous monsterfolk despite being younger than the majority of his patients. He's multiple times mentioned to be a prodigy as a doctor.
  • Made of Iron: Every once in a while he gets pushed and knocked around by some of the monster girls, including Sapphee slapping or strangling him. Despite the fact most of the said girls have monster-based Super-Strength, he always walks it off with at most light bruising that heals away shortly after. Whether this is because his demon blood makes him extra resilient, or if he's just naturally sturdy, is unclear.
  • The Medic: While he has zero combat ability, when it comes to healing monsters, he has nearly no equal, and he's even capable of bringing the girls he heals into better condition than before they needed his help, such as the case of Kunai. Although he is great at diagnosing patients and giving treatments, he's not very good at things like making the actual medicines, which is where Sapphee's skills come in.
  • Naturalized Name: Glenn's real name is Guren as he is from the counterpart of Japan, and he picked the name Glenn as it was similar to Guren.
  • Nerves of Steel: This guy can deal with almost anything with a calm face and a steady hand, whether it's girls getting aroused by his efforts or somebody threatening him. Even when he gets startled or surprised, it doesn't take long for him to brush it off. The only thing that truly bothers him is any time he has to deal with Aluloona, and that's simply because her Charm Person abilities prevent him from thinking straight rather than being perturbed by her specifically.
  • Nice Guy: This guy can get along with anybody, no matter their race, attitude, or intentions towards him. Even the fact he knows that Sapphee was only Childhood Friends with him because she was The Mole who would kill his family if things went south with hers does nothing to change the fact he likes her.
  • Non-Action Guy: Unlike the girls that gather around him, most of whom have at bare minimum monster-based strength, and quite a few that are genuinely skilled at fighting, Glenn is a seemingly regular human without even a hint of muscle on him, though he remarks he has gotten in good enough shape to run around the city, and no combat experience whatsoever, meaning he has a hard time defending himself if attacked, requiring the aid of one of the girls to keep him safe.
  • Not What It Looks Like: On the rare occasions where other people walk in on him examining or healing a patient without any context, the fact he often causes Fantastic Arousal during his efforts can result in Accidental Pervert moments, with it sometimes resulting in Pervert Revenge Mode from other girls, Sapphee especially. One such example is when he examines Skadi, with his probing of her body stimulating her so much she drops to her knees and cries. This causes Kunai and Sapphee to run in, catching him still groping the body of the currently undressed crying Skadi, which causes them to think he was having his way with her and threaten death upon him. They only back down when Skadi explains that it was still a simple examination and that she was fine.
  • Oblivious to Love: Heavily downplayed. He's actually quite observant when it comes to obvious signs of love, not just outright confessions but also girls acting affectionate towards him. However, girls giving off mixed signals (such as Lulala) or being subtle about their attraction will leave him confused and unable to tell how they really feel about him. Additionally, while he's capable of realizing blatant attraction, he can be rather dense when it comes to noticing just how deeply the girls can feel about him, which is something he eventually comes to realize when said denseness pushes Sapphee to the point of strangling him out of frustration and jealousy.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Along with his terrible sense of wording and phrasing, Glenn never thinks to deny or deflect when he does something unintentionally perverted and it gets brought up later, especially when talking to Sapphee who gets easily jealous.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: He's 160 cm and a doctor specializing in monster biology.
  • Stock Light-Novel Everyman: Glenn is a "monster" doctor whose female patients get a lot more screen time than his male ones. Since the series is not combat-centered, Glenn's skills as a doctor are needed to solve most dilemmas, such as curing a mermaid with dry/inflamed gills, helping an eggbound harpy lay said egg, or excising a fatal tumor from a dragoness. This, along with his unassuming Nice Guy personality, causes quite a few of these patients to fall in love with him.
  • That Came Out Wrong: He has a bad habit of wording his attempts to act as a doctor in ways that make him sound like he's perverted or coming onto his patient, such as saying he wants to touch a girl's chest when he means that he wants to check her breathing. Sapphee often ends up having to point it out to him.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Him being a regular human, and a rather short one at that (revealed to be 160 cm), means that compared to the monster girls (and guys) he interacts with, he's rather tiny, with it being most notable with Sapphee, since they spend almost all their time together. Skadi and Lulala are among the few to be shorter than him, though Lulala's inability to stand upright on dry land makes exact scaling a tricky endeavor.
  • Token Human: Among the entire major cast, he's the only one that is a completely normal human. Well, the only one that is physically completely human. The fact his sister turned into an oni due to her demonic ancestry means he's not biologically 100% human.
  • Unable to Support a Wife: The underlying implication for why he's a Celibate Hero that brings up Cthulhy's "no fraternization or you get kicked out" rule whenever Sapphee or another girl gets very forceful about getting together is because he has so little personal income that he can't even afford to be an independent doctor, let alone provide for a wife, so until he's financially sufficient enough to open a personal clinic without Cthulhy's backing, he's not taking the risk of losing that support by tying the knot with anybody.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: Glenn already knew about how Sapphee is from a family of assassins, along with said family's plan to murder his own family if things went bad between them. This knowledge did nothing to change the fact he genuinely loves and cherishes her, even if he's not willing to go all the way just yet.

An albino lamia who is Glenn's assistant.

  • Action Girl: While her strength and skill were already quite apparent through the ways she uses her tail, it's eventually shown that she's not too shabby in a fight. Well, that's an understatement, because when she fights, she can take on entire groups of assailants, leaving trails of beaten bodies in her path. However, she greatly dislikes this aspect of herself, due to the fact it's a glaring sign about her being from a family of assassins. She's especially fearful of Glenn knowing about it, since she's worried that him learning about her assassin heritage would scare him away. However, it's later revealed that Glenn already knew about her being trained and sent as an assassin for a long time, and states that her being this way does nothing to diminish his care for her. Once this comes out, she gains confidence in her abilities and decides to openly use them to protect Glenn.
  • Affectionate Nickname: She likes going by "Sapphee" with close friends, with her outright insisting that Glenn refer to her that way instead of her actual name.
  • Animal Eyes: She has slitted snake pupils.
  • Badass Adorable: She's a cute and pretty young woman who is normally seen acting endearingly lovey-dovey towards Glenn, but beneath that adorable and unassuming appearance is a lamia with a tail strong enough to dent metal and a high level of fighting prowess. That's not even getting into how she's a genuinely skilled assassin who knows how to and is very capable of killing people, though she prefers to just break them if she can help it. She starts out hiding the "badass" part and playing up the "adorable" part for fear of it distressing Glenn into hating her, but learning he doesn't mind has her more willing to show how capable she is while still being cute.
  • Big Sister Instinct: While it's tempered by the fact that Glenn interacting with her brings out Sapphee's jealous side, she comes to feel sisterly protectiveness towards Lulala following Glenn rescuing and healing the girl. Despite disliking the idea of Glenn and Lulala "flirting" around her, she does want them to have a good relationship.
  • Bizarre Alien Reproduction: Lamia are oviparous just like snakes, meaning they lay eggs that house their young. This detail, plus the fact he and Sapphee would've been kicked out if it actually happened, makes Glenn able to instantly tell Sapphee was faking it when she held a basket with a harpy egg under her shirt in front of her belly to act like she was pregnant with Glenn's child.
  • Character Exaggeration: While her being clingy is consistent across all mediums, the manga adaptation takes things to the extreme. While the light novel and anime have her often complain about Glenn interacting with other girls, with her occasionally glaring and getting handsy with both him and said girls, she's still quite friendly and agreeable towards many of them, even the ones that outright compete with her for Glenn's love. Meanwhile, the manga heavily exaggerates her clinginess to the point of often acting outright detrimental to Glenn's doctor efforts, with her hissing and glaring daggers at any girl that so much as has a friendly chat with Glenn, and her occasional handsiness being elevated to outright strangling people, including Glenn himself. In contrast, the one time she genuinely strangled Glenn with her tail in the light novel and anime was treated by her as a very serious thing and only happened because she had been rendered nearly hysterical from overwork and competition from the other girls.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl:
    • Normally downplayed but still obvious in the light novel and anime. Often displays of affection or sexual interest in Glenn from other girls (or even her own jealous imagination running wild, such as when Kunai suggests an in-house visit to Skadi's chambers) will result in a caustic/sarcastic remark, silent glare, or an attempt to distract Glenn or the girl from what they were doing while feigning a smile. She normally purposefully keeps her true levels of jealousy hidden or in check, even claiming she is fine with Glenn having as many lovers as he wants so long as she is #1 in his heart, but being inebriated or pushed too far (such as when she witnesses Arahnia trying to rape Glenn) can lead to a more violent reaction. Volume 3 states that she outright doesn't trust Glenn around female patients, despite him never having done anything untoward to a patient.
    • On the other hand, this is played very straight in the manga, where Glenn so much as making eye contact with another girl makes her extremely, aggressively clingy, practically bordering on Yandere at times.
  • Combat Medic: While they don't overlap, Sapphee is a trained doctor specializing in medications, though because of her assassin training she can more than put up a fight, a stark contrast to Glenn, who couldn't fight if his life depended on it.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Both her canines tend to be prominent when her mouth's open. While on the rare occasions she exhibits a Nightmare Face they act as Scary Teeth, under most circumstances they're used to highlight how cute and alluring she can be.
  • Florence Nightingale Effect: A major contributing factor to her initial falling in love with Glenn was when she fell ill with a major fever, thanks to the Leitbeit family servants poisoning her, and Glenn did everything he could to help her get better. As a plus, that foray into medicine made Glenn desire to keep healing others, which set the path for him to go to medical school and reunite with her, allowing her to spend her following years with the man she loves.
  • Food as Bribe: Since she greatly enjoys alcohol, being offered rare and tasty vintages is almost as effective in getting her to do what somebody wants as buttering her up by complimenting her "relationship" with Glenn.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: She tends to drink wine a little bit too often. Shortly after Tisalia's exam, she's drinking an incredibly potent liquor that she got from Tisalia's attendants, with the anime having her drink it from a beer tankard the size of a small barrel. She even frequently visits the pub to have drinks with Arahnia when she doesn't have any work. She only finds herself outmatched when she tries to outdrink Glenn's oni-blooded sister, though that may have been because of the barometz spores putting Sapphee to sleep rather than actually drinking herself unconscious.
  • Healing Serpent: She's a lamia who works in the medical field, and as such, is very adept at treating injuries and mixing medications. Ironically, she can kill as well as she can heal.
  • Huge Girl, Tiny Guy: Her long and thick tail makes her much taller and bigger than the already somewhat petite Glenn.
  • In Love with the Mark: One reason she became Childhood Friends with Glenn was in order to be close enough to his family that she could kill them all if negotiations between them and her family failed (as monsters and humans were still officially at war, the idea was to remove all evidence they had made a secret deal with a human family), but as she spent time with him she genuinely fell in love with him and desired to avoid her mission. Even though that situation never came to pass, she still feels incredibly guilty about her part in the ordeal and wonders what she would have done if negotiations had broken down.
  • Innate Night Vision: Just like several varieties of snakes, she can "see" the heat given off by warm-bodied beings, seemingly even through walls.
  • Insecure Love Interest: She's genuinely in love with Glenn, possessively so, but she's absolutely terrified about the idea of Glenn learning about the fact she is from an assassin family, along with how the reason she was Childhood Friends with him was to get close enough to kill his family if things went sour between them. However, when circumstances force the truth into light, not only does Glenn reveal that he knew about her assassin family background from the start (as his father had studied her family intensely before dealing with them), he'd already guessed around the same time about the family killing plan since one of his servants had a similar plan to assassinate her which failed. Despite that, it did nothing to diminish how much he genuinely loves and cares about her. Once all of this comes out and they talk things through, her love for him grows even stronger.
  • Logical Weakness: Being part-reptile, she's weak towards cold temperatures, and requires outside sources of warmth to stay healthy. Additionally, being an albino makes it dangerous for her to go out in the sun without protection.
  • Mistaken for Servant: She's peeved at how often she's mistaken as Glenn's nurse when she's actually a doctor just like him.
  • Nightmare Face: Gives one while stating how she wishes to annihilate the slavers after they attacked Glenn.
  • No-Sell: Due to being a Lamia, several deadly poisons are completely ineffective on her. That being said, a select few are deadly enough to kill her, and the failed poisoning attempt from the past shows that despite not completely succumbing to it, a number of toxins are potent enough to render her very ill.
  • Odd Friendship: With Arahnia. Sapphee readily admits that while she considers Arahnia to be her Best Friend, they don't really have much in common (they don't even like the same drinks) and there is quite a bit about Arahnia that is rather twisted and legitimately makes her poor friendship material. She ponders if the fact they take to each other so well means part of her is secretly rather twisted too. She notably is able to predict Arahnia's schemes with surprising accuracy, showing she has more understanding of how her mind works than one might expect. They do gain something else in common when Arahnia falls in love with Glenn, Sapphee listing off the "symptoms" of being lovesick that she is so familiar with herself and Arahnia agreeing she feels the same things, including the nigh-constant desire to tie Glenn down and have her way with him.
  • Overly-Long Tongue: She wouldn't be a snake without one. It's a human tongue at first glance, but it's actually forked at the end like an ordinary snake's and is over twice as long as a human's.
  • Punny Name: Her name, when abbreviated, sounds like "snakes".
  • Prehensile Tail: She regularly uses her tail as a third, extendable arm, whether it's grabbing things from a decent distance away, including on very high shelves, without having to walk there or get a ladder, or wrapping it around somebody to hold them still. It also works very effectively for Tail Slapping enemies in a fight.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: She's an albino, resulting in her having red eyes. She's also a very feisty woman, especially when other women come onto Glenn. That said, though, woe betide anyone who actively tries to kill Glenn, as she'll be more than willing to show them that there's a reason she's from a family of assassins.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Given her kind's propensity for using poisons, she's resistant to doses that would be considered lethal for humans. Which is something Glenn's family found out when one of their servants without their approval tried to assassinate her using poison. Indeed, it's noted there are few poisons that actually work properly on lamia.
  • Shown Their Work: Reptile bodies do not rely solely on melanin for their colors, hence why Sapphee's scales are not simply white despite her being an albino.
  • Snake People: As a lamia, she has a long snakelike tail, scales scattered about parts of her human-like upper half, slit pupils, a long forked tongue, and long, prominent canine teeth. Being an albino is also noted to not be all that unusual for lamia in this setting, and she is a prime example of such a lamia.
  • Snakes Are Sexy: She's a fairly attractive lamia and her snake traits are sometimes used for fanservice, such as her using her tail to wrap herself around Glenn.
  • Top Wife: Invoked when polygamy becomes legal after Glenn proposes to her. Sapphee accepts him marrying a few others but demands the others recognize she is his first wife. Arahnia agrees readily, Tisalia not so readily. Sapphee likewise takes it upon herself to "screen" the letters from anyone else who seeks to marry Glenn.
  • Unable to Cry: Lamias physically cannot cry, just like real snakes. Instead, they let out mournful wails (unlike real snakes).
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: She's extremely protective of Glenn and will even resort to using her hated assassination skills in order to defend him if the need arises.
  • Weakened by the Light: Due to being an albino Lamia, her skin is quite sensitive to direct exposure to sunlight, requiring her to wear a nearly full-body-covering of sun-blocking clothing and carry a parasol, and/or put on a sunscreen made of somewhat rare materials, in order to go outside during the day.

    Cthulhy Squele

Cthulhy Squele

Voiced by: Yukana (Japanese), Jeannie Tirado (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cthulhy_squele.png

A scylla, Cthulhy is Glenn and Sapphee's mentor who heads the Lindworm Central Hospital.

  • Animal Eyes: She has horizontal pupils like an octopus.
  • Anime Hair: She has long red hair styled up into a massive ponytail, with the top part looking like the head of an octopus and the actual tail curving in a similar way to her tentacles.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Her lower body is all muscle, while her humanoid upper body is actually supported by a skeleton of cartilage rather than solid bone. She can change the colors of her lower body in response to her mood, much like an octopus.
  • Casual Kink: She seems to really like the idea of Glenn eating a piece of her tentacles, frequently offering him the opportunity to either cut off a piece for him or just to chew on one still attached to her. The implication is that it's a personal fetish, though it's also noted to be something scylla often do (there even being a restaurant where scylla and kraken cut off their tentacles for customers to eat).
  • Character Tics: Has a habit of chewing on her own tentacles when stressed out or thinking hard.
  • Cuddle Bug: An interesting take on one. She finds regular hugs embarrassing, but on the other hand readily coils up people she feels affection for, kissing them all over with the suckers on her tentacles and caressing their bodies. Over his years with her as his teacher and then mentor, Glenn has experienced this from her more often than even being wrapped up by Sapphee, and he has to admit he enjoys the cool, wet sensations she gives.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Her kind are descendants of beings that were called "malevolent gods" (though they were not actually evil) and appear to have been this world's version of Cthulhu-like monsters. Other than a centuries-long lifespan, it doesn't seem her kind inherited any special powers.
  • Furry Reminder: When stressed, she tends to bite her tentacles, similar to octopuses eating themselves when stressed.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: She's able to treat her tentacles as somewhat expendable because it only takes a matter of days or weeks for them to completely grow back if severed.
  • Has a Type: She quite likes young men in particular, and is at first put off by Glenn having aged when she reunites with him. She later remarks that her attraction to him has gone beyond such tastes though.
  • Hot Teacher: She's Glenn and Sapphee's medicinal teacher-turned-mentor, and is quite the attractive and alluring woman, which is exemplified by her having a teacher-like Form-Fitting Wardrobe, which does well to show off her impressive curves, including her tentacles, and being a very sensual lady that likes to flirt with Glenn.
  • Hypocrite: She doesn't want Glenn and Sapphee making any romantic advances with each other yet she's constantly flirting with Glenn. Naturally, this makes the Clingy Jealous Girl of a lamia less than enthused with dealing with her, among many other reasons.
  • Logical Weakness: She has various extra nerve clusters within her body to help control her tentacles, in particular a cluster between her eyes (protecting this spot is one reason she wears glasses). If someone (namely Glenn) knows enough about scylla bodies to stimulate this point by poking it just enough to not induce pain and thus a reflexive defense, they can render her a helpless writhing mess of pleasure.
  • The Medic: She's the single most skilled doctor for monsters in the region, and getting her to take charge of the central hospital was a pivotal part of Skadi's plans to make Lindworm prosper. Ironically though, being a doctor is not what Cthulhy personally wanted, her calling being that of a scholar (something her species is known for). It's just that her centuries of investigations into monster biology, physiology, etc. gave her a doctor's skills and knowledge, and, as her long-time friend, Skadi managed to convince her to come to Lindworm. As such, she is hoping that her best student Glenn will one day be able to replace her so she can focus on her own studies. Despite appearances to the contrary, she still takes her responsibilities as a doctor seriously and is Skadi's personal physician.
  • Multi-Armed Multitasking: She frequently uses her tentacles as eight extra arms when she does things. She mainly applies Mundane Utility to them, such as utilizing the fact she can stretch them pretty far in order to grab and manipulate objects a decent distance away without having to stand up from her chair and walk to them, as well as taking care of lots of paperwork very quickly.
  • Mundane Utility: She can spit high-quality ink from her mouth as a defense, but mostly just uses it by getting a bit on her tongue and licking her pen so it never runs out of ink.
  • Older Than They Look: Scylla like her are noted to be a "molting" species (unlike real cephalopods) and apparently due to this remains fairly young looking throughout their lives.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She's at least a few centuries old, apparently "middle-aged" by her species standards, not that one could tell by looking at her.
  • Sherlock Scan: She was able to easily tell Illy was actually a descendant of The Phoenix just from looking over her files, with Skadi wondering how she managed to figure it out.
  • The Tease: Whenever she happens to be around Glenn she takes every chance she can get to flirt with him, much to Sapphee's annoyance. However, while it's obvious that one reason she does so is to get under Sapphee's skin, since Cthulhy is the one that put in the "anti-fraternization" clause for her support in the first place, it's rather unclear whether she only does so just to mess with the duo, or if she's genuinely romantically interested in Glenn. Apparently, her interest was even more explicit when he was her student, as after opening his clinic, Glenn tries to assure Sapphee that Cthulhy isn't interested in him "anymore." In Volume 3 of the light novel, Cthulhy herself says she is unsure of the nature of her feelings, though Sapphee is firmly convinced that she still wants Glenn for herself. Notably, she flirts with Glenn regardless of whether or not Sapphee is present, indeed she's bolder when Sapphee's not around, and in Volume 4, she tells Glenn she still loves him while trying to get him to lie down/seduce him.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: On numerous occasions, the patients that Glenn and Sapphee wind up treating went to Cthulhy first but were turned away and sent to them instead. This even includes Skadi, who is not only one of the most authoritative people in Lindworm but also an Old Friend of hers.
  • Unscaled Merfolk: She's a scylla, which are a race of beings with human-like upper halves and octopus-like lower halves. In this story, they are descendants of Eldritch Abominations that can live for several centuries, along with having similar biological quirks to actual octopi, such as a more complex nervous system in order to control their bodies and being able to change the color of their octopus-based body parts.

Lindworm City Council and Officials

    Skadi Dragenfelt

Skadi Dragenfelt

Voiced by: Atsumi Tanezaki (Japanese), Cherami Leigh (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skadi_dragenfelt.png
Unhooded

A fire dragon often referred to by the moniker "the draconess" acting as the council representative of Lindworm, having reconstructed the city into the place it is now.

  • Adaptational Curves: Downplayed as she is still short and fairly petite, so the changes aren't extreme, but in the anime, Skadi is still noticeably curvier, having thicker limbs and a larger bust size than her design in the light novel, making her look less child-like.
  • Alien Blood: Her blood is blue, something that gets shown by way of the shoggoth tumor taking on its color due to being connected to her blood vessels.
  • All-Powerful Bystander: She has incredible strength and high-grade political influence, having been a major aid to Glenn and co. behind-the-scenes, both in the present day through the formation and management of the Truce Zone that is Lindworm, and back during the war when she did everything she could to prevent excessive casualties and conflict. Overall, however, she doesn't really do much in the story directly with her abilities, due to a combination of frequently being swamped with city politics, preventing her from directly intervening with most legal conflicts, the story rarely involving actual threats, causing her strength to be unnecessary most of the time, and her ill girl and Death Seeker status causing her to lack the motivation to do much.
  • Animal Eyes: Being a dragon, she has vertical slit pupils.
  • Badass Adorable: Her soft and youthful body, combined with her secretly childlike true personality, means that, whenever she's comfortable enough to show her true self, she's capable of looking and acting like an adorably sweet little girl. All the same, as a dragon she's incredibly powerful, with close to nobody near Lindworm able to match her, even when she's playing around having fun like the Blood Knight she is.
  • Barbie Doll Anatomy: Any time her breasts or crotch are shown in the anime, she's depicted without nipples or genitalia. However, an official illustration does depict her with nipples, so it's simply a case of censorship to avoid a higher content rating.
  • Big Brother Worship: Although they aren't related biologically or legally, Skadi openly calls Glenn a big brother, despite being several times his age and well above him in social ranking. Given her true self is remarkably childish, however, she doesn't hesitate to act the part and often enjoys hugging him, often to Sapphee's chagrin. The fact that she's shorter than Glenn (who was already on the short side for a human of his age) only makes it more apparent.
  • Big Good: She's the strongest entity on Glenn's side, both physically and politically, with her not only being the one that reformed the city into a haven for human/monster coexistence but also being the primary influencer and protector of it. The entire reason Glenn is able to perform his work as a monster doctor with little-to-no problems is thanks to her efforts, both past and present.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: The reason why she has blue scales, organs, and blood despite being a fire dragon is that her body has high concentrations of pyrite and vivianite in her body to protect it from the flammable noxious gases that allow her to breathe fire, the presence of said minerals resulting in the color.
  • Blood Knight: While she greatly dislikes killing people, she considers non-lethal fighting incredibly fun and exciting, especially when her opponents can put up a good fight. She actually finds her immense strength somewhat annoying because of this, as it makes the number of people that can give her exhilarating fights rather limited.
  • Blue Blood: In both the figurative and literal sense. Skadi holds one of the highest rankings in Lindworm, and her blood is the same shade of blue as her scales.
  • Body Horror: Her shoggoth tumor is not a pretty sight. It's a pulsating growth of discolored blue flesh on her chest that's the size of a softball, and it's embedded into her heart. Careless removal of the tumor would damage Skadi's heart beyond repair, and the tumor itself is mimicking the heart's functions to slowly drain the life out of her. The procedure to excise the tumor is easily one of Glenn's hardest operations.
  • Breath Weapon: As a fire dragon, she has the ability to breathe intensely hot flames from her mouth. Given such an ability mostly only has uses for bringing death and destruction, she won't use it lightly.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Both her hair and eyes are a light shade of blue.
  • Death Seeker: The biggest reason for why she has lived for so long with her shoggoth tumor is because she believes herself to deserve it, considering its presence that's killing her to exemplify how dragons do not deserve to live among mortals, herself especially due to how she was unable to do anything to stop the war without bloodshed. The biggest step for Glenn in actually curing her is convincing her that she deserves to live and be happy.
  • Delicate and Sickly: Skadi is actually suffering from having a parasitic shoggoth inside her body that has integrated itself into her circulatory system, replicating her heart and leeching off of her. It eventually reaches the point she collapses due to it taking over enough of her blood vessels that it started being outright dangerous. Once the shoggoth is removed and provided a body that has no problems holding it, taking on the name of Molly, Skadi not only is able to speak loud and clear to everybody, but she also fully regains her physical health.
  • Dragon Hoard: Downplayed, but she is noted to have a compulsion toward beautiful stones and jewelry, which she gathers for her personal "collection" for no real reason other than she likes looking at them. She even made various stone-like dormant pieces of Molly part of said collection. She knew she couldn't keep them but decided to wait until Molly asked for them before she gave them up, and whined to herself over the loss as they were taken away.
  • Draconic Humanoid: She has dragon horns, wings, a tail, and scales over her limbs, as well as on her sides and parts of her face.
  • Fan Disservice: Even with a childlike body (and the anime filling her out a bit), Skadi is fairly attractive when she wants to be. What's not attractive and quite capable of stealing away the Male Gaze is when she has to go topless to reveal the oversized blue tumor on her chest that's slowly killing her.
  • Fantastic Arousal: Her wings and the base of her tail are very sensitive, as Glenn discovers when he is examining her. The fact he didn't pay attention to how touching them is affecting her causes her to cry and is implied to have caused her an "accident", which infuriates Kunai.
  • A God I Am Not: Some people in the East refer to her as a goddess, seeing her as a case of Dragons Are Divine, but while Skadi readily acknowledges that she did originate as a heavenly being close to the gods, perhaps due to this distinction she does not like being called an actual god.
  • Going Commando: Downplayed; she doesn't wear a bra (which may be due to her more modest chest size compared to the others seen in the series), but Skadi's Strip Tease sessions show that she does wear white panties under her long council robes.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Despite how much good she has brought to Lindworm and how many people she has helped gain happier lives through it, she personally sees herself as a terrible person unworthy of praise, due to the fact she could do almost nothing to stop the war prematurely and sees dragons coming to the mortal plane as arrogant on their part. Her deprecation is such that she willingly lets the shoggoth attached to her continue spreading through her body and killing her, considering it a form of penance for her "arrogance". It takes a lot of effort on Glenn's part to convince her that all of that is wrong and that she deserves to be both happy and alive.
  • Immortal Immaturity: Despite being nearly a thousand years old, when she lets slip her true self, she acts just as childish as she looks. Whether it's enjoying being pampered and hugged or referring to Glenn as "big brother" and teasing him about whether or not he finds her attractive.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: It's hidden by her veil, but she has bright blue eyes that compliment her blue hair, and she greatly prefers negotiation over violence while holding to the idea that peace and coexistence between humans and monsters are genuinely possible. It really comes into play when she stops wearing her veil since leaving her eyes fully exposed coincides with her embracing her true good-natured Nice Girl personality.
  • Lightning Bruiser: She is not only much stronger than she looks but is also very fast. In an arena bout with Tisalia, when the centaur manages to actually find an opening to land a hit that could actually hurt her, Skadi manages to almost completely evade it despite having been caught off guard. She proceeds to more or less toy with Tisalia, never giving her another opening and landing throw after throw until the centaur is a bruised and battered mess.
  • Magical Girl: She's a fan of the idea of one at least. In Volume 7, she writes a play starring and directed by herself titled Pretty Skadi, the Magic Draconess, only to have the play canceled by a council majority vote. Much to Skadi's pouting displeasure, the council decided her performing like that would not be good for her image.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Her falling in love with Glenn presents this situation. Skadi is capable of living for several centuries, while Glenn is a mostly normal human, and there are no implications that his oni blood does anything to affect his lifespan, so if Skadi actually marries him and joins his harem, she'll end up outliving him in at best one century.
  • No-Sell: Poisons with metallic properties like arsenic don't harm her thanks to her body naturally having high amounts of metal within her. Assuming she was not being sarcastic when someone tried to poison her food with arsenic, to her such poisons are simply a spice to food.
  • Not So Stoic: Her true self is actually much more self-indulgent and whimsical than she initially appears. Cthulhy outright says that Skadi's role as council representative and all the responsibilities she seemingly got shackled with all happened simply because she wanted to do those things, and should she take an interest in something less professional (like flirting), she'll indulge with reckless abandon befitting her draconic nature.
  • Older Than They Look: Underneath that full-body covering is that of a petite girl. Glenn even outright compares her to a child, and when playing around, she can act rather like one. All the same, she is one of the oldest beings in the series.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: She's a member of the fire dragon race, which in her case means she is a humanoid with scales growing across her body, horns on her head, vertical slit pupils, and a scaly tail. Dragons are extremely variable in form and ability depending on the environment they live in and the individual dragon, Skadi having lost her original immense reptilian form after spending too much time away from the heavenly realm her kind originate from, becoming locked in humanoid form (some dragons are noted to be able to freely shift from their original to human form and back again, but Skadi apparently cannot). Dragons of all sorts are considered the strongest monsters in the world due to their immense city-destroying levels of power, and while Skadi has lost some of her capabilities thanks to losing her former immense size (i.e. she can no longer send multiple armies running just by landing between them), she still has much of her original strength.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: She's smaller than Glenn, a human male that is already pretty short for his age, but packed in that small frame is one of the strongest people in the world, capable of warding off most assailants with only some effort.
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: Kunai does not find Skadi attempting to Strip Tease for Glenn amusing in any form.
  • Powerful and Helpless: As a dragon, she is one of the strongest beings in the world, with the only entities able to compare strength-wise being giants and other dragons. But she has a major case of Heroic Self-Deprecation because that strength was absolutely worthless when it came to her efforts trying to end the Great Offscreen War prematurely, since while she could end conflicts with the mere presence of her massive original draconic appearance, that was only temporary and she was too terrifying for anybody to be willing for negotiations about stopping the conflict. It became worse when she took on her current appearance, as she couldn't even scare people into stopping their fighting anymore. It's only after she managed to scrounge up a strong political counter-force near the end of the war that she finally managed to achieve a form of peace, and even then she hates how she was utterly useless when it came to trying to prevent the massive casualties of the war that eventually led to the "truce" between species.
  • The Quiet One: She never speaks above a whisper, which usually requires Kunai to speak in her place. This is due to a parasitic shoggoth weakening her. Once it is removed, she's capable of talking loud and clear enough that everyone can hear her, meaning Kunai ceases needing to speak for her.
  • Rescue Romance: Glenn helping her deal with her problems involving the parasitic shoggoth, combined with just how much of a kind and caring person he is, caused Skadi to develop feelings for Glenn, with her wanting to be affectionate towards him and call him "big brother".
  • Really 700 Years Old: She's nearly a thousand years old.
  • Scars Are Forever: As a consequence of the shoggoth fusing so deeply into her blood vessels, the process of removing it results in Skadi permanently gaining a large scar between her breasts right above her heart.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Once she's cured of her illness and allows herself to act how she wants, she shows herself to not just be unconcerned about showing off her body, but actually quite flaunting about it, with her flashing her body at Glenn in public and teasing him about if he finds her body exciting to look at. Kunai, on the other hand, just constantly begs her to cover herself.
  • Strip Tease: Much to Kunai's embarrassment, Skadi has taken to lifting her robes in front of Glenn to show off her body. Considering she only wears a small pair of white panties underneath, everyone's reactions are very much predictable.
  • Tail Slap: The main way she utilizes her incredible strength in fighting is by smacking people with her thick, strong tail. It both works as an effective method of crowd control and is a less risky way of using her strength without killing people than if she used her hands.
  • Technical Pacifist: In her own words, her views on violence are often misunderstood. She hates war and avoids killing, but she loves a good fight. Unfortunately for her, there are not many opportunities for her to even spar with others, thanks to how strong she is even when holding back.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: She was originally quite glum and so fatalistic that she believed being killed by the parasitic shoggoth was her fate. However, after going through Glenn saving her life, both by removing the parasite and convincing her that she deserves to live happily, she massively perks up and also starts letting her originally hidden childlike mindset shine through.
  • Vapor Wear: While Skadi's council robes offer her a great deal of body coverage (especially with her cloak on), the only thing she wears underneath it is a small pair of white panties... which she tends to show to Glenn after her surgery. REGULARLY.
  • Weredragon: Skadi's current form isn't her original form, having initially been a huge fire dragon who could stop fighting armies simply by landing between them. After spending too much time outside of her heavenly homeworld, however, Skadi assumed her current humanoid form due to the way the lower world's environment affects dragons. And unlike some others of her kind, she's unable to turn back to her original form.
  • Womanchild: After having the parasitic growth on her removed, she shows herself to actually be pretty childish, even though she's the chairwoman of the town.

Kunai Zenow

A flesh golem acting as Skadi's bodyguard, with her being absolutely devoted to the draconess.

  • Action Girl: As Skadi's bodyguard, she's quite a competent fighter, capable of taking on entire groups of foes without a problem. Even when she loses a limb, she can still put up a good fight. Indeed, before accepting Skadi's job offer, she was the top rank 1 fighter in the city's fighting arena and part of its hall of fame.
  • The Ageless: Due to the fact she's a Flesh Golem made out of various corpse parts, she will never age, with the closest thing for her being when her body parts eventually lose their spiritual essence and need replacing, which makes her the perfect bodyguard and companion for a Long-Lived person like Skadi, since no matter how much time passes Skadi will always have Kunai by her side. Volume 8 reveals it's a bit more complicated, as it addresses how Kunai needs regular injections of preservative to keep her body from rotting away, and that without Skadi's magic sustaining her she would still eventually rot away.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Kunai has a noticeably muscular build due to being made from various corpses with the intention of having a strong body, and even with all the stitching and mismatched skin coloration she's no less attractive-looking.
  • Attractive Zombie: Despite being a living corpse covered in stitching and mismatched skin coloration, along with her right arm being much larger than her left due to being a man's arm, none of that does anything to detract from how cute she can look and act or how attractive she is.
  • Badass Adorable: Under normal circumstances, she's all badass, and physically she's more beautiful than cute, but the right conditions are capable of bringing out her cute side, such as blushing and squealing while Glenn is fixing her, acting giddily determined about serving her master Skadi, or even adorably pouting a bit when saying how she is saddened that Skadi being able to speak after getting cured means Skadi doesn't need her to be a Voice for the Voiceless anymore.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Thanks to the fact that her early life from the moment she was "born" had her being experimented on by the "doctor" who made her, she absolutely hates anybody in the profession. Just thinking about dealing with a doctor makes her sneer in disgust. That said, after she spends a bit of time with Glenn, in addition to him being genuinely kind and gentle in his efforts to repair her body, she comes to realize that not all doctors are bad, and drops her attitude towards him. Ironically, there are indications that the man who made her wasn't even a real doctor to begin with.
    • Anybody besides Skadi so much as putting their hands close to her neck scroll, with her threatening pain of death towards anybody that actually tries to touch it. Given said scroll constitutes her soul, and that messing with it will severely affect her, this is understandable.
    • Anyone that does anything which even slightly upsets Skadi. Glenn giving Skadi a physical examination leads to her rashly declaring she will kill him (and herself in the light novel) after she finds Skadi crying from it.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: She acts as Skadi's bodyguard, trying to keep her safe from enemies, despite the fact Skadi is leagues stronger than Kunai. This is justified in that it's noted for all her power Skadi is still relatively vulnerable when she sleeps, so having Kunai, a bodyguard who doesn't sleep, is useful.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: They're not exactly "natural" given her stitched-together nature, but she has a decently big chest and is a very strong and capable fighter.
  • Cleavage Window: Her outfit includes chest straps that leave a prominent gap between her neck fabric and belly armor, showing off in full the cleavage of her decently big breasts, which despite being mismatched in color still look good for a living corpse.
  • Contralto of Strength: In the anime, she's given a deep and guttural voice to represent her status as a serious powerhouse, as while some like her boss Skadi are more powerful overall, she's very much a more direct fighter who consistently uses her physical strength for fighting.
  • Disability Superpower: The Mad Scientist that made her deliberately designed her to have no sense of pain, in an effort to make an "unstoppable immortal warrior". However, this lack of pain means she can't accurately judge how well her body is held together (though she is able to sense damage to an extent), which combined with her haphazardly stitched-together body means it wasn't too difficult to break her seams and dismember her using blunt force. This ceases to be an issue shortly after she meets Glenn.
  • Eating Optional: While she is a case of The Needless thanks to being a living corpse, she's still capable of consuming and enjoying food and drinks, thanks to retaining all of her regular senses outside pain.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While Kunai does everything she can to ensure Skadi's happiness, the dragon's attempts at Strip Tease are something she does not abide by in any form.
  • Fantastic Arousal: While she has no sense of pain, she appears to have heightened sensitivity to being gently touched and caressed, with extensive contact eventually pushing her into The Immodest Orgasm. Both she and Glenn suspect she's this way because the Mad Scientist that made her was mentally sick in more ways than one.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: To go with her asymmetrical patchwork body, there's barely any mirroring in her outfit, with a heavy gauntlet on her larger right arm and bandages on her smaller left one, her skirt stitched to have an off-center X-like mixture of more green on the right and more black on the left, with the addition of a leg-exposing belted slit on the left, and she has some armor on her left calf while leaving the right bare. The only real symmetry is her belly plate, Cleavage Window, middle-positioned Samurai Ponytail, and tabi socks with sandals.
  • Feel No Pain: The mad scientist that created her intentionally put together her body in a way that makes her completely devoid of a sense of pain, in order to create a warrior that can keep fighting without any concern towards bodily harm.
  • Frankenstein's Monster: While her actual species is a Flesh Golem, she falls more under this. Unlike zombies, which are people coming back from the dead with most of their memories and mind intact, flesh golems are artificially created using body parts from multiple corpses. The end result has its own mind and personality separate from the parts that make it up.
  • Hearing Voices: Because she's made of the body parts of numerous corpses, she can constantly hear the wailing regrets of those people from when they were alive, which she learned to ignore to some extent, but at times they overwhelmed her. However, with a little help from Glenn both in fixing her up and easing her aggressive mind, she grows at ease with their presence, even viewing the spiritual voices as a natural part of her being. Additionally, even when the voices were overbearing, she enacted special burials for pieces that lost their spirit and stopped functioning out of respect for their usefulness, before picking out replacements from the Lindworm graveyard district utilizing her ability to slightly make out the feelings and memories of the pieces to figure out which ones work best for each body section.
  • Heart Drive: The scroll affixed to the back of her neck contains her "orders" as a golem. It dictates everything about Kunai, including her directives, personality, and body composition for regenerative purposes. If it's rewritten she has no choice but to obey what it says, and damaging it is implied to cause Death of Personality or worse. There are very few she will allow to touch it. It is described in volume 8 as being essentially Kunai's "real" body as the rest of her is replaceable parts from other people but the scroll contains her identity, her soul, etc.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's extremely abrasive and rude to Glenn thanks to her hatred of doctors, with her constantly dismissing him and his abilities, and she's also pretty gruff with everybody else that isn't Skadi. That said, she's not a bad person underneath, her loyalty to Skadi is due to genuinely appreciating her kindness, and after she spends some time with Glenn, including him fixing up her body better than it used to be, she grows increasingly fond of him despite being a doctor.
  • Made of Iron: Even taking into account how her body-stitching was so terrible it caused her to be Made of Plasticine, her being a living corpse without a sense of pain means she can take much more physical punishment than any other characters, as even incredibly strong people like Skadi have their physical limits. This later gets elevated to a minor case of Super-Toughness once Glenn re-stitches her body, as she completely loses her old fragile constitution, being incredibly physically durable while still being painless and unkillable.
  • Made of Plasticine: Became this over time due to the stitches that hold her together being made of less-than-ideal materials and wearing out over the years, making it relatively easy to break her body into pieces compared to a living person's as the stitches tear from overexertion. However, following Glenn doing a thorough effort in stitching her together with new higher quality materials, she loses this trait, becoming just as durable as a living person while retaining the benefits of her Feel No Pain status and monster-like strength.
  • Meaningful Name: She was given the name Kunai because it means "painless", since the Mad Scientist that made her wanted to create a warrior immune to the pain of life. It turned into an Ironic Name because while she experiences no physical pain, most of her "life" had her constantly experiencing mental and emotional pain due to side effects of being made up of parts from many different people. It wasn't until she met Glenn that she learned how to be at peace with her body.
  • The Needless: In addition to her lacking a sense of pain, she also is completely devoid of the need to eat, drink, or sleep, meaning she is capable of being vigilant towards any and all threats without the need to worry about biological upkeep, which is especially helpful when it comes to the fact that Skadi does need to sleep and is quite vulnerable to danger when doing so.
  • Organ Autonomy: All of her body are semi-sentient, being parts of several dead people. She's even able to hear and communicate with them, and if at any point her mind weakens, the spirits can retake control of their limbs, potentially even causing harm to her.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: Is technically a flesh golem but also has characteristics of the Jiangshi, a reanimated corpse from Chinese folklore.
  • Red Right Hand: Kunai's right arm is considerably larger than her left, and is specifically noted by Glenn to be a man's arm.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: Played With; Kunai's outfit is rather revealing in itself, but she does not bring any attention to it or ignores anyone staring at her. On the other hand, she is far more conservative than Skadi, and is not amused in any form by her attempts to Strip Tease for Glenn.
  • Samurai Ponytail: Her hair is styled to have a ponytail sticking out of the upper back of her head. It acts as a decent signifier of her being a skilled fighter and loyal servant to her noble master Skadi, along with denoting the fact she originates from the Fantasy Counterpart Culture version of Japan.
  • Stripperiffic: It's a lot more modest than something like Lulala's bikini, but her patchwork outfit has plenty of gaps in it, including a Cleavage Window, that do well to show off her mismatchingly colored and stitching-coated but decently preserved and curvy body.
  • Super-Soldier: The intent of the Mad Scientist who brought her to life; to create an immortal warrior incapable of feeling pain.
  • Touch the Intangible: As an undead being animated by magic, Kunai is able to see, hear, and touch spectral beings like ghosts. She demonstrates this in one chapter when she grabs a spirit attempting to possess an unsuspecting Glenn and punishes it with some harsh squeezing.
  • Tsundere: Type A towards Glenn. At first, she genuinely only held scorn toward him due to her dislike of doctors. However, following her "session" with him, during which they have a conversation that shows her he's not a bad guy, she grows to like him somewhat. She still acts gruff and abrasive towards him, especially since while fixing her he caused her to moan loudly and immodestly, but she no longer actually hates him.
  • Undeathly Pallor: Being basically undead, several of her skin patches have noticeable shades of gray.
  • Undying Loyalty: Ever since Skadi took her in, she has dedicated her entire being to protecting her master's life and happiness. That being said, she doesn't take too kindly for Skadi attempting to Strip Tease for Glenn and never fails to ask the dragon to cover herself when she does so.
  • Voice for the Voiceless: Thanks to the fact that Skadi is so quiet she borders on inaudible, Kunai speaks in her place, somehow able to hear her well enough to translate even when she's a few feet away. She stops doing this once Skadi is cured and becomes able to speak for herself, though she feels a bit saddened that she lost something to have Skadi rely on her for.

    Aluloona Loona

Aluloona Loona

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aluloona_loona.png
Her wine and vines are to die for.

An alraune on the city council in charge of agriculture and regarded as the most powerful person in the city next to Skadi. She's also in charge of the city's Red Light District and plays a big role in various philanthropic ventures like an orphanage.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: She gets a brief speaking role in the anime well before the point she first showed up in person in the light novels.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: As an alraune, her entire body has a combination of colors commonly found in flowers. Her main body is light green like a flower stem, while her Clothing Appendage, Plant Hair, and plant extensions are varying mixtures of purple, pink, green, and yellow.
  • Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: Along with underboobs, her Clothing Appendage is arranged in such a way that completely exposes her midsection.
  • Charm Person: Her scent has a beguiling effect on men, making them quite pliant and open to suggestions. She mostly uses it for seduction, but also to interrogate criminals and get the truth out of them.
  • Clothing Appendage: Part of her appearance has her looking like she has petal-like clothing, including an upper half-bra, some shirt sleeves, and an open coat. But these aren't actually clothes, instead being literal petals growing from her body in the shape of clothing, with her actually being completely naked. Arahnia notes that Aluloona's thoughts on this are that she's already "clothed" as a gorgeous flower and thinks wearing anything over that natural beauty is pointless.
  • Karmic Rape: She and her daughters subject most of the Black Widow cult to this, with the justification being that she was given permission to do what she wanted to the criminals if they attacked her instead of surrendering, provided she didn't kill them. The ravishing, draining attentions of the alraune group serve to weaken the men for easy arrest and to help ease her and her daughter's current "bloom" lust cycle. Ironically, the cult had been seeking an orgy with a monster girl, just not with a group of insatiable alraunes.
  • Kill It with Fire: A murderous cult member tries to invoke this on her, only to have it defied. Alraune do have a strong fear of fire, but only in large amounts. Aluloona is quick to show that it's actually quite hard for a healthy, moisture-filled plant to catch fire in the first place, as she grabs the flaming end of an attacker's torch with one of her vines and snuffs out the flame while suffering only a minor burn to herself.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac:
    • She's quite open about the fact she greatly enjoys sex, and she has zero qualms about offering Glenn the chance for a good time whenever she sees him. Glenn for his part just accepts that this is how she is, albeit thanks to the effects of her scent he can't actually do much to refuse her and depends on Sapphee and the other girls to keep him out of Aluloona's clutches.
    • She has a massive harem of men of various races who are her official lovers and attend to her most nights, and when polygamy is made legal she sends out literally hundreds of marriage invitations and eagerly waits to see how many men will accept.
    • And when she is "in bloom" her sex drive becomes even more extreme, nigh bottomless even.
  • Mundane Utility: Her species' nectar has an aphrodisiac effect on men and she likes to get them to drink it (especially from her breasts), but it can also be used as a beauty treatment for women. After Sapphee and Arahnia take some, it's noted their skin gets downright sparkly/shiny.
  • Older Than They Look: While no numbers are given, it is repeatedly noted that Aluloona is much older than she looks, to the point that she readily refers to herself as an old lady.
  • Organic Bra: Her plant body has a petal-like bra formed from her neck that extends down her chest in such a way that it covers her breasts, which keeps her nipples hidden despite her openness about her body.
  • Plant Hair: She has petals for hair.
  • Plant Person: She's an alraune, with her looking like a humanoid flower, including various vines and fruits sticking out of her body.
  • Repetitive Name: Aluloona Loona
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: She never wears clothes, and is quite open about how many men she sleeps with regularly, with her repeatedly trying to seduce Glenn. She also admits to disliking it when others give any indications they think her lifestyle is improper.
  • Sultry Bangs: Her Plant Hair is arranged in a way that makes her left eye barely visible from the front, which enhances her seductive image.
  • Underboobs: Her Organic Bra grows in such a way that it covers her nipples, but only that far, with the lower half of her breasts open for all to see.
  • Vapor Wear: While she's already very adamant about not wearing real clothes, it's quite obvious from full-body shots that her Clothing Appendage has no form of underwear whatsoever, with the only things preventing her from exposing herself to the viewers being camera angles, Scenery Censors, and having her legs closed in a sitting position.

    Molly Vanitas

Molly Vanitas

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/molly_vanitas.png

A shoggoth that serves as manager of the Deadlich Graveyard City after fusing with the bones of the previous manager and taking on said manager's name.

  • Big-Breast Pride: She sees using a good deal of her body mass to give herself large breasts, despite resulting in thinner bone coverage elsewhere, to be a worthwhile decision, as she wants to get closer to Glenn by appealing to his interests since he's a guy who's most attracted to genuinely monstrous women with large chests.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She deliberately gave herself large breasts due to Glenn liking bigger ones.
  • Creepy Monotone: She talks like a robot and her voice is described as being mechanical-sounding.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: As a shoggoth, she can take on pretty much any form, and was introduced as a parasitic growth that copied a heart and leeched off of Skadi to survive. After being excised, she grew and copied various other people as she sought to learn about the world, before taking on a more stable humanoid form by incorporating the bones of the Deadlich Graveyard City manager whose soul had recently departed to the afterlife. She also devotes extra body mass such as giving herself large breasts, even at the expense of some of the bones not getting enough coverage, specifically in hopes of being more appealing to Glenn, as she regards being close to him as a valuable relationship to pursue.
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: Created to be a servant who could perform a wide range of tasks thanks to their ability to morph themselves into many body parts and objects, the shoggoths lacked unnecessary sapience. It was only out of desperation to survive after losing Skadi as a host that Molly divided herself up to seek out sustenance and knowledge, eventually recombining and using the accumulated experience and knowledge to become a unique individual in her own right.
  • Slime Girl: As a shoggoth, her true form is an amorphous shape-shifting mass of purple slime. She originally was simply a barely sentient Blob Monster, but in her desperate efforts to survive after being removed from her host Skadi, she acquired genuine sapience, which she put to use by fusing with the skeleton of the graveyard manager, taking on a humanoid form, something she added to by purposefully using a good amount of her slime body to form larger breasts.
  • The Tease: She constantly messes with Glenn in a sexual manner. Part of it is because she views getting close to him as being a worthwhile relationship, but she also likes doing it because she finds his reactions amusing.
  • Technically Naked Shapeshifter: Her "clothes", inspired by the memories of the bones she uses as support for her body, are simply a transformed outer layer of her slime body that she can revert back to slime at will and manipulate as she sees fit. For some time, these clothes are only partially intact, as seen in the page image, due to her not having enough body mass. However, in Volume 7, she regains all her missing pieces, which were scattered around the city back before she became sapient, and is able to fill in every bit of her body and form the full nun habit in imitation of the original Molly.
  • Time Abyss: While she only became sapient recently, she has existed for thousands of years, having been created by the eldritch ancestors of scylla and kraken as a member of a race of slime-like servant beings called "shoggoths". With only Dione old enough to know of her origins, Molly may well be the oldest character in the series, albeit like Dione, much of Molly's life was spent in dormancy.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifter: As part and parcel of being a shoggoth, Molly is capable of morphing her body into a wide variety of shapes and forms with numerous uses.

    Sioux Litbeit (MAJOR SPOILERS)

Sioux Litbeit

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sioux_litbeit.png

Glenn's younger sister who moved to Lindworm and got a job as a guard after she took on characteristics of an oni due to what was believed to be a disease called demonitis.

  • Amazonian Beauty: Sioux has a noticeably muscular build due to the effects of demonitis while still being quite cute and attractive.
  • Horned Humanoid: The most pronounced effect of her demonitis, and the biggest reason she was ostracized as a "demon" in the East, are the two oni-like horns growing from her head.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Her weapon of choice.
  • Naturalized Name: Like Glenn, Sioux has a different given name than the one she took on in Lindworm. Her birth name is "Suiu".
  • Pale Females, Dark Males: Inverted with Glenn. Glenn has noticeably pale skin in contrast to Sioux having a pinkish complexion, perhaps due to the effects of demonitis.
  • Shipper on Deck: She looks up to Sapphee as a sister and was such a fan of the idea of Glenn and Sapphee marrying that she thought they were already together when she reunited with them. This ends up being played with when subsequently she gets charmed into being willing to support Glenn marrying any of the growing number of women who try to coax her blessing with gifts and favors, including: Tisalia, Arahnia, Molly, Aluloona, Skadi, Lulala, Illy, Kay and Lorna.
  • Uneven Hybrid: She has an unspecified amount of oni aspects to her biology thanks to her ancestral blood awakening from within her while retaining a decent amount of her original human biology.
  • Walking Spoiler: Talking about her is difficult without mentioning her "illness", along with how her existence hints at Glenn's Ambiguously Human status.

    Tisalia Scythia

Tisalia Scythia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tisalia_scythia.png

A centaur who regularly competes in the monster fighting coliseum called the Arena, along with being the heiress of Scythia Transportation.

  • Action Girl: Not only is she quite skilled when it comes to fighting in the Arena, but she's also pretty capable in an actual life-or-death fight.
  • Afraid of Needles: In this case, it's getting her hooves shorn and shoed. She reacts to the idea of that with the same sort of fear as someone with a fear of shots.
  • Badass Adorable: She's a proud and capable fighter in the Arena that is fully able to apply those skills to genuinely dangerous combat, and she's also a very cute and pretty woman who mentally can act quite childishly adorable, such as squirming and begging when getting her hooves shorn as if she was getting a shot or visiting the dentist, or acting like a Smitten Teenage Girl when it involves expressing her attraction to Glenn.
  • Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Saphentite's Betty.
  • Big-Breast Pride: She's proud of her voluptuous figure and took it as a compliment when she thought Glenn was ogling her breasts.
  • Big Eater: Due to the fact centaurs have big bodies, plus the fact they're herbivores, Tisalia eats tons of fruits and vegetables on a regular basis.
  • Blood Knight: She's a downplayed example. She considers being a strong and skilled fighter to be a requirement for her as heiress to the proud and honorable Scythia family, but she doesn't relish fighting to the point of seeking it out beyond the Arena.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Being a centaur, she's well-endowed, and not only is she a regular fighter at the Arena, but she's also capable of easily taking on people genuinely fighting her to the death if it's to protect her city.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Her impromptu match with Skadi is pretty clearly decided before it began. Tisalia holds out some hope since Skadi is still recovering from her surgery, but this doesn't matter much given Tisalia herself is already worn out from winning the official match which just got her promoted to being a rank 2 arena fighter, and finds Skadi is strong enough to block her lance with ease with one hand. Even so, she manages to catch Skadi off-guard with a feint and tries to use the strongest technique she knows (not legal in official matches), namely rearing up and crashing down hooves first with all her weight, hopeful it will be enough to at least stun the dragon as it would kill a normal opponent. Skadi is still fast enough that the attack only grazes her, but it motivates her to take the fight more seriously and earns Tisalia some respect even as Skadi proceeds to demolish her.
  • Dogged Nice Girl: By the time Glenn had finished his checkups on the other Arena fighters, Tisalia was impressed enough to casually flirt with him, predictably to Sapphee's frustration. Not long after he helps break her losing streak, she jumps straight to inviting him to marriage interviews.
  • Expressive Ears: The horse ears on top of her head move in relation to her emotions. They droop when she feels bad, stand straight when she's excited, twitch when she hears something that catches her interest, and tremble when she's feeling scared. Even when she's feigning her emotions, her ears will express what she truly feels.
  • Good Is Not Soft: While she's a bit prideful when it comes to her body and physical prowess, overall she's a genuinely sweet woman. That said, if she comes across anybody trying to threaten her city, she and her Arena competitors are fully willing to kill if it's necessary to keep the peace.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's got a head of long, curly blonde hair, along with a curly blonde tail, and while she has a bit of an attitude, she's a genuinely sweet and considerate girl.
  • Improvised Weapon: While she greatly prefers using a pre-made pole-arm for combat, she's perfectly capable of taking any object comprised of a long shaft and using it as a substitute pole-arm with just as much skill and prowess, such as a broom or a tree log.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Tisalia's eyes are a bright shade of sky blue, and despite being a trained warrior with high social standing and business connections, she is more or less a teenager with barely a bad bone in her body... nor any form of self-care.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: Her curly blonde hair is so long it reaches down far enough to touch her horse half. Due to her upbringing, she holds herself to an ideal of femininity and beauty.
  • Meaningful Name: The Scythians were a group of nomadic horse warriors and were believed to be the mythological inspiration for the Amazons.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: As befitting for someone who's the heiress to a company.
  • Ojou Ringlets: As befitting a woman from an upper-class background who holds herself to high standards of beauty and elegance, she has two curled locks in front of her face, albeit of a messy sort like the rest of her hair. In her case, it's exaggerated because she also has two of them on her horse tail.
  • Proud Beauty: She's extremely confident in her looks, to the point she compares herself to the likes of a goddess. This inflates her ego to a certain degree, however, as while she does accept being "second wife" once polygamy becomes legal, it's made very clear that she's not completely happy with the arrangement.
  • Proud Warrior Race Girl: She styles herself as a knight and has great confidence in her abilities, which is why she fights at the Arena and protects the city. Humorously, this means that she chafes at being "second wife" despite agreeing to the conditions.
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training: Tisalia is quite capable in matters of diplomacy, battle, or transporting heavy things. However, her upbringing as essentially the "princess" of one of the foremost centaur families left her with no knowledge or capacity for how to groom herself or even make her own food, both things having always been done for her. She outright exclaims she can't imagine life without her attendants to do such things for her.
  • Serious Business: As the next in line to inherit the family business of Scythia Transportation, she holds her ability to transport goods and people across long distances with just as much seriousness as her fighting ability.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Despite holding herself to the standards of being beautiful, strong, and honorable, she doesn't care much for strength and attractiveness in her mate, preferring them to be a kind and courteous gentleman who is open to helping others. Glenn happens to fit that preference perfectly, which causes her to butt heads with Sapphee.
  • The Teetotaler: As a woman that holds herself to the standards of being an upstanding and honorable knight and transporter, she refuses to partake in drinking alcohol.
  • Top Wife: Discussed by Kay and Lorna as what they're both hoping for. While the two of them want her to wed Glenn for Tisalia's own wishes, the two of them are also very excited by the prospect that said marriage would make them Glenn's property as well. They enthusiastically tease their eagerness to "serve" him if and when such a time comes. That said, Tisalia somewhat begrudgingly accepts being "second wife" in deference to Sapphee when the engagement is actually made, recognizing that Glenn chose Sapphee first and would have proposed to only her if he could only choose one.
  • Weapon-Based Characterization: She's wholly dedicated to always using some form of polearm, whether it be lances or spears, which represents her dedication to the image of an archetypical lance-wielding horseback knight, being both graceful and powerful.
  • Worf Had the Flu: She used to be a rising star among the rank 3 fighters in the Arena (rank 3 being roughly mid-rank among the arena's fighting divisions). However, when she's introduced, she's been having a constant losing streak, not having won a single match in a month. Her attendants initially believe it's because she has some sort of illness, but eventually, it's found out that it's because she was never shod and fitted with horseshoes, with her hooves growing unevenly, resulting in her balance being thrown off. Once that whole ordeal is sorted out, though not without some complaints from Tisalia herself, she goes on to have a four-match winning streak.

Lorna
Kay

Two centaurs who are Tisalia's loyal attendants and friends, with both of them also competing in the Arena.

  • Action Girl: While it's not shown as often as Tisalia due to their Those Two Girls status, when they get the chance to act, they show that their status as attendants to a "princess" and competitors in the Arena isn't just for show.
  • The Baby Trap: A slight variant. While the actual idea of child-rearing is at most implied, the two teasingly mention to Glenn, while coming onto him, the "hypothetical" idea that if they could trick him into having his way with them, the fact they're Tisalia's "property" means he'd have "soiled" what belongs to her, which would mean he'd have to "take responsibility" by marrying Tisalia. Glenn is understandably freaked out over them saying and trying to do this.
  • Casual Kink: It's eventually revealed that Lorna is very into bondage. In fact, being strung up in a harness and having it tightened helps her calm down after she started getting stressed about Kay being injured and her being unable to do anything about it.
  • Childhood Friends: Ever since they were taken in as war orphans by a close family of the Scythians, they have been incredibly close friends to Tisalia, with all three basically seeing each other as sisters.
  • Happily Adopted: Following being orphaned by the war, they were taken in by the Arte family, who are very close to the Scythians, through which they became servants and friends to Tisalia. Both of them are very happy with this arrangement.
  • Parental Abandonment: Due to the mercenary-like lifestyle of most centaurs during the war, both of them ended up losing their parents.
  • Satellite Character: Both of their characters revolve around their mistress, Tisalia.
  • Shipper with an Agenda: When they get some alone time with Glenn, they show themselves as being quite insistent that he accept Tisalia's marriage offer, not just because he's the perfect guy for her, but also because they are romantically interested in him as well, and since they are Tisalia's servants, Glenn marrying her would make them his servants too, with them mentioning he could do anything he wants with them.
  • Those Two Girls: Whether they're with Tisalia or acting on their own, the two of them are almost never seen apart. Later, when Kay gets injured, forcing them to be apart for a while, it's explained that the reason they are almost always together is that following being orphaned, they only had each other to look out for them, and even after being brought under Tisalia's service they still have a difficult time being separate.
  • Undying Loyalty: Both of them live for Tisalia's sake, both as servants and as friends. They are willing to do anything to help her, even if that means going behind her back for said help, and the idea of them being unable to properly serve her scares them.
  • Weapon Specialization: As fellow Arena fighters alongside Tisalia, they too have personal weapon types for combat. Kay favors wielding swords, while Lorna is quite skilled using bows and arrows.

    Lulala Heine

Lulala Heine

Voiced by: Yukiyo Fujii (Japanese), Ryan Bartley (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lulala_haine.png

A mermaid that greatly enjoys singing for the various people living on the surface.

  • Berserk Button:
    • She takes great offense whenever people use Lindworm's waterways as dumpsters, which is understandable since she and countless other merfolk live there.
    • While not as extreme as the above example, Lulala isn't too fond of Glenn constantly mistaking her for a younger child.
  • Big Sister Worship: While it's not to the same extent as Skadi, Lulala does see Glenn as an older sibling figure, despite being the eldest sibling of her own family. Around Sapphee, however, these feelings are more pronounced. Her smaller stature greatly helps in that regard, though the fact she cannot stand upright makes scaling difficult.
  • Cool Big Sis: The main reason she performs is to provide for her family, including three younger siblings.
  • Cute Little Fangs: She has decently prominent canines in close-ups of her face with her mouth open.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father swam away from their family not too long ago, leaving her, her mother, and her three younger siblings to fend for themselves, forcing her to take up singing in an effort to get money to survive.
  • Expository Pronoun: She uses boku to refer to herself.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Even more than Tisalia; Lulala has dirty-blonde hair and is a complete and total sweetheart without even a hint of an attitude, dedicating herself to singing both to make others happy and supporting her family's struggling financial situation, and wholeheartedly appreciating just how helpful Glenn is towards her. Even when being a Tsundere, she never gets aggressive like Sapphee, only evasive.
  • Idiot Hair: She's got a little cowlick on the top of her hair.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Downplayed with the blue part, as her eyes have a green tinge. However, she plays the innocent part completely straight, as she's just as childish as she looks.
  • Making a Splash: Merfolk are all capable of blasting jets of water by forming their arm fins into a tube that they then rapidly constrict to force water out of one end, which Lulala uses to rescue Kunai from an attacker. Humorously, Lulala assumed that surface-dwellers could do the same thing until being told otherwise.
  • Master of the Mixed Message: Due to her Tsundere feelings towards Glenn, she has a habit of going from nice and friendly one moment to belligerent and evasive the next, making Glenn unable to figure out how she actually feels about him.
  • Older Than They Look: Glenn has constantly forgotten Lulala is the same age as he is due to how childish her body can appear, a fact that gives the mermaid much grief on more than one occasion.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: As a mermaid, she has fin-like ears, fin-like flaps attached to her arms, webbed fingers, gills, and a fish-like tail sprouting from her hips. In order to breathe both above and below water, her body has a system for switching between gills and lungs, but spending too long above water dries her gills out and prevents them from properly closing, causing breathing problems both ways. Mermaids also hold to the usual Sirens Are Mermaids concept, since all of them are skilled singers with beautiful voices, Lulala being no exception.
  • Promotion to Parent; Ever since their dad left, Lulala felt it was up to her to provide for her mother and siblings, and pushed herself in order to make sure they could make it by, even though that meant spending so much time above water her gills were drying out and causing her pain.
  • Required Secondary Powers: She can breathe on land because she has lungs in addition to her gills. However, spending too much time on land dries out and inflames her gills.
  • Rescue Romance: She develops a sizeable crush on Glenn after he saves her from drowning and heals her illness, though he doesn't notice for some time.
  • Street Musician: Her job was singing to passers-by on the waterways. It later gets upgraded to being employed by Skadi.
  • Stripperiffic: She wears a rather skimpy bikini.
  • Tsundere: Type B towards Glenn. She's normally a very sweet girl towards everybody, but following her gaining a crush on Glenn after being rescued and healed by him, she starts being incredibly evasive whenever it involves her attraction to him, which confuses Glenn about whether she likes or hates him.
  • Underwater Kiss: Glenn has to resort to this to push water through her gills after she starts drowning underwater.
  • Walking Swimsuit Scene: Her default clothing. In fact, in their own societies out in the ocean, mermaids and mermen typically don't wear clothing at all, as it just gets in the way when swimming. They compromise in places like Lindworm where they live alongside other monsters and humans, wearing a bare minimum of clothing. Lulala is still perfectly fine being nude among her own kind, but not in front of other species.

Full body
Nurse Outfit

An Arachne that is friends with Sapphee, with her liking to hang out and chat over drinks.

  • Accent Adaptation: Her voice is noted (in-universe) to have an accent that reminds Glenn of parts of the East, the in-universe equivalent of Japan. The anime thus gives her a Kansai dialect. In the English dub, they gave her a Southern accent instead.
  • Accent Slip-Up: It's eventually revealed that her accent, which is portrayed as being a Kansai dialect/Southern accent in the anime, is actually an affectation, and when she's seriously caught off-guard, she drops it and speaks in a more common accent.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: She shows up at the clinic looking for Glenn during the time he's fixing up Kunai and drops off a harpy egg she found when she wouldn't make her first appearance in the source material until much later. In the light novel, it was the fairies who found multiple harpy eggs.
  • Building Swing: Her silk is more than strong enough to support her weight, and she can use the lines she produces to leap and swing from structure to structure, be they trees or buildings.
  • Character Development: Ever since she first properly met Glenn and experienced his genuine Nice Guy personality, Arahnia had started a gradual process of character change. In the beginning, she was still an Eccentric Artist possessing Insane Troll Logic and doing things that threatened her friendship with Sapphee, but the more she and Glenn interacted, the more her destructive personality broke down. Her emotional confusion eventually reaches the point where she deliberately tries to do the worst thing she can think of that might destroy her connection to Sapphee and Glenn before running away, but not only does Sapphee stop her from leaving, with a little help from Tisalia, the duo outright force her to go through a Love Epiphany about how she romantically wants to be with Glenn. Following that, she experienced a case of Love Redeems, genuinely and wholeheartedly bettering herself in order to repay the love and kindness both Glenn and Sapphee showed to her.
  • Cleavage Window: Her outfit has the chest area split down the middle in such a way that it almost completely exposes her breasts.
  • Disappeared Dad: In an internal monologue recounting her past, Arahnia explains she has no idea who her father is, and that due to the sheer number of men her mother seduced and slept with, she doubts her mother knows either.
  • Easily Forgiven: She considers herself to be this to the point that it confuses/infuriates her. Due to a somewhat twisted disposition inherited from her mother (or at least the way she was raised), Arahnia has the compulsion to take what her friends value, including their boyfriends, seducing them before discarding them before anything intimate could happen. She has thus destroyed every friendship she ever had before befriending Sapphee, and even then tried to rape Glenn in part to test if Sapphee would hate her for it. To her surprise, both Sapphee and Glenn were quite lenient about it, and in a further effort to sabotage her own relationships, she later attempts to steal a special charm from Glenn's room (after various pranks in the clinic failed to get a reaction). When she is caught in the act, she drops the charm and flees, intending to leave the city forever, only to find that Sapphee still doesn't intend to call the authorities on her but rather to talk things out. On Glenn's part, his purity and kindness are such that the pessimistic Arahnia who initially claimed to feel nothing for him and to consider kind people to all be fakes finds herself lovesick for him.
  • Eccentric Artist: When she's not succumbing to her darker impulses this is what she is, a quirky lady who will go to extreme lengths for her work and the sake of artistic inspiration. For example, she is formally introduced after having camped out in the mountains for days because she heard there was a harpy with phoenix wings, and apparently assumed the harpy was a wild creature living out in the woods rather than a member of the harpy village.
  • Extra Eyes: It's difficult to notice due to her bangs, but she actually has six eyes, two humanlike ones, and four spider-like ones.
  • First Kiss: Gets hers with Glenn in volume 8. Not the most romantic as they had a number of people blatantly listening in (including a quite jealous Sapphee), further the purpose was to arouse her so she could produce a pheromone thread, so it became more of a serious makeout session aided by alraune nectar-laced sake rather than a regular first kiss. She enjoyed it quite a bit regardless.
  • Freudian Excuse: Played with. Arahnia did not have the best childhood. Her mother was not neglectful, but she was not caring either. The big issue though was her lifestyle. Arahnia's mother was a thief, but not a conventional one. She would seduce various men and manipulate them into stealing things for her to please her, and Arahnia was often witness to such behavior growing up. Arahnia considers her mother to be a contemptible person and has always endeavored to be different from her. Namely, she maintained a code that anything she got (be it clothing, jewelry, or men) she would get directly via her own abilities rather than by manipulating other people to get them for her. Yet, all the same, she felt intense urges to steal what others value just as her mother did, and hated both herself and her mother all the more for it as in the end that meant she was still in some sense a thief like her mother.
  • The Gadfly: Disregarding her reluctant compulsion to mess with people sexually in ways that ruined most of her past attempts at companionship, she overall just gets major kicks and tons of fun out of toying with other people, especially her best friend Sapphee. Even once she drops most of her darker aspects after falling in love with Glenn, it does nothing to make her stop messing with her friends, and in fact, she becomes a better example of this archetype, having all of her new teasings and toying habits done out of genuine playful friendliness.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: She's Sapphee's drinking buddy, and it's implied that she has a similar disposition towards being a major purveyor of alcoholic beverages. They prefer different drinks though.
  • Inhuman Eye Concealers: Played with. Her regular human eyes are completely bare, but her hair is styled to have the bangs cover the four spider-like eyes on her forehead.
  • Insane Troll Logic: By her own admission, she has a rather twisted sense of morality when it comes to what she'll do for the sake of her art (being a clothesmaker and designer). Namely, not long after meeting him, she was fully willing to rape/seduce Glenn in the belief that it would both convince Sapphee to make her claim on him official and that the whole affair would somehow inspire her artistically. She later admits though that another motivation was to test how Sapphee would react.
  • Ladykiller in Love: A gender inverted example (Maneater in Love). She had a habit of seducing the male lovers of her female friends, but she never went any further than that since the thrill of doing so was enough for her. However, after meeting Glenn, she grew to be confused and conflicted about her feelings towards him, as not only do her usual efforts fail to work on him, he never holds a grudge for any of the bad things she does, treating her with kindness. This confusion grows until she starts breaking character, and reaches the point where she falls back on her usual ways until Sapphee and Tisalia catch her in the act and force her to talk about her feelings. After calming down and having a heart-to-heart with the girls, she's eventually outright forced to accept that the reason for her weird feelings is that she's fallen in love with Glenn.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Though it's less about getting into someone's pants than it is getting to dominate and have her way with them.
  • Love Redeems: Following her both accepting how much Sapphee and Glenn care for her and coming to terms with the fact she wants to be with Glenn, she starts reigning in her more negative qualities and does what she can to better herself, out of a desire to repay everything Sapphee and Glenn did to help and support her.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: As an Arachne, she has four arms on her human-like torso. She also has the fierce air of a predator rather innate for her species, and her somewhat odd sense of morality can make even her friends feel unnerved around her.
  • Oblivious to Love: She didn't realize she was in love with Glenn until Sapphee flat-out told her.
  • Proud Beauty: Remarks to Glenn when she first tries to ravish him that she is "quite confident" in her body, and while here she is directly referring to her sexual abilities, Glenn proceeds to note to himself how she dresses with her liberally open-breasted clothes underscores just how high her self-esteem is regarding her looks.
  • Punny Name: To the extreme; her full name is a triple pun on "araña", "tarantula", and "arachnid". Because, you know, she's an arachne.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Takes this even further than Sapphee, as not only are her eyes blood-red, she has six of them, with the four spider eyes being completely red.
  • Seductive Spider: A hedonistic temptress who, after meeting her best friend's crush Glenn, contemplates raping him just to see her friend's reaction and "share" something in common with her. It's later revealed that she has a habit of seducing other women's boyfriends, only to ditch them before anything physical happens. Indeed, it's eventually revealed that despite her confidence and the impression she gives of being very experienced, she is not only a virgin but before Glenn had never even kissed someone.
  • Serial Homewrecker: She had a compulsion to seduce claimed men of female friends she had, both for the thrill of claiming what others possessed and for potential artistic inspiration, which led to her losing every friend she made. While she hated herself for doing this, it also reinforced her views that all such bonds were ultimately fragile and that she couldn't trust anyone. She seriously falters when it comes to her attempt on Glenn, as he never holds a grudge against her for her actions, and Sapphee doesn't let her efforts break their friendship. She eventually drops this completely, as she comes to genuinely fall in love with Glenn, who completely accepts her.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: The only thing aside from species and life positions separating Arahnia from Aluloona is the fact that the Arachne actually wears clothes, and even then her first outfit gives everyone a crystal clear view of her ample cleavage, which Glenn is quick to note.
  • Southern Belle: Her (fake) accent in the English dub comes off as this.
  • Spider People: As an Arachne, she has four arms, six eyes, and a spider-like lower body with eight legs. She also has a weak digestive tract, similar to actual spiders, meaning what she's capable of eating is rather limited.
  • What Is This Feeling?: While she had a habit of stealing away the lovers of the people she was close to, she never actually felt anything for them, and in fact didn't truly understand love. However, being around Glenn makes her feel weird, especially the fact he holds no grudge over her past actions, which constantly confused her to no end. It's not until it gets spelled out to her by Sapphee and Tisalia that she comes to realize she's fallen for him.

A cyclops who works as an apprentice at the Kuklo Workshop, the local forge run entirely by cyclopes. She is only in her mid-teens, but is quite skilled and is the only female employed at the workshop.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: She shows up during Tisalia's horseshoe fitting, working alongside the male cyclops from the source material, resulting in her appearing much earlier than she does in the light novel and manga.
  • The Blacksmith: As a worker in the forge, she's highly skilled at metalworking. She's even chosen as the forger of the needles to work on Skadi because the boss and Glenn have faith in her abilities to do so. She also does pretty well at construction, or at least working on carriages, as she was able to fix one to be as good as new using only a set of hand tools.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She's incredibly skilled when it comes to forging and shaping metal, and her chest is big enough to rival Tisalia.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Her eye is more or less the same shade of purple as her hair.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Her poor depth perception combined with often looking down due to shyness results in her having a habit of tripping over herself or bumping into things, with her attempts to right herself usually causing her to clumsily make it worse, such as getting her clothes caught and suffering Clothing Damage.
  • Cyclops: As a cyclops, she has a single large eye in the middle of her face, along with a single eyebrow on the left side of her face. She also has a strong affinity for metalsmithing.
  • Defiled Forever: She declared herself unmarriageable after accidentally exposing her underwear to Glenn, though she followed it by saying she doubts anybody would want to marry her anyway. She has this reaction again later when she finds out she was subjected to Undressing the Unconscious when he treated her.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: She greatly enjoys wearing Gothic Lolita clothes made by arachnes, though she doesn't like other people knowing about it.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: As a result of her constant stressful work in the forge, she's developed a dark circle around her eye.
  • Fantastic Racism: A heavily downplayed example, where she finds dealing with two-eyed people nerve-wracking, but that doesn't cause her to dislike them for it.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her hair is styled to cover the right half of her face, though split into five composite strands that still leave most of it visible, which does well to represent her Shrinking Violet attitude.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: She's an amazing metalworker and craftsman, to the point the boss of the shop is highly confident in her abilities, along with being quite cute and attractive, but she's constantly looking down on herself, from her craftsmanship to her looks.
  • I Am Not Pretty: She considers herself to be so unappealing that no man would willingly want to be with her, something that is unfounded given how cute and well-endowed she is.
  • Logical Weakness: Due to having only one eye, she has poor depth perception and often bumps into things, though this is due more to her looking down all the time out of shyness rather than bad depth perception. Additionally, the greater sense of sight her giant eye gives her also causes her semicircular canals to be much more easily stressed, resulting in motion sickness if she stares too long at objects moving in circles and such.
  • Meaningful Name: Her surname is a reference to the late 19th-century French artist Odilon Redon, who painted a memorable portrait of the Cyclops from Greek mythology, and in whose early work large grotesque eyes were something of a running theme.
  • Motor Mouth: When she finally gets motivated and dedicated to her work, it's shown she's capable of talking a mile a minute about her thoughts. She's also capable of going on long, rapid-fire rants when she really wants to give somebody a piece of her mind.
  • Pervert Revenge Mode: She's the first girl Glenn has interacted with that has slapped him and called him a pervert (he's been slapped before, but out of jealousy or by accident instead of unintentionally perverse incidents), specifically because he became an Accidental Pervert when she tore her loincloth and exposed her underwear.
  • Prone to Tears: She's a major crybaby due to a combination of her major lack of self-confidence combined with naturally tearing up more due to her large eye.
  • Punny Name: Memé comes from the Japanese word for eye me (眼).
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: A decent amount of her screentime in her introductory episode involves her showing off her well-endowed and curvaceous body to Glenn against her will, including accidentally exposing her butt from Clothing Damage, experiencing temporary cleavage exposure after Glenn cut open her shirt due to its tightness restricting her breathing, and thoughtlessly squishing her breasts against Glenn while nervously thanking him. In all cases, she has a Naked Freak-Out and momentarily becomes even more of a Nervous Wreck than she already was.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's incredibly shy and feels nervous when interacting with other people, especially those with two eyes. Even when she tries to interact with others, she still stutters and stammers a lot, with it being very easy to make her run away out of embarrassment. She fittingly also has violet hair, which is also the color of her eye.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She's the sole female cyclops working at the Kuklo Workshop. There is no strong stigma against female cyclops having such a profession, Memé being quite beloved by her fellow workers and treated like a daughter, but it's noted most cyclops women simply prefer going into agriculture and such while the males handle smithing.

    Aluloona's daughters

Aluloona's daughters

Aluloona's many progenies, or rather the ones who were born as alraunes like her over the course of her long life. They share their mother's looks and personality, including a sex drive arguably as strong as her own. Thirty of her youngest daughters are introduced in Volume 8, their mother taking them as a group on a vacation in the East due to them experiencing a "group blooming" and thus hunger for sex that would risk emasculating most of the men in Lindworm if they stayed put in the one city.

  • Inexplicably Identical Individuals: They all look like smaller versions of Aluloona, differing from each other only in the color of their flowers.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: There are 30 of them still young enough to live at home. And these are simply the ones who were born as alraunes. They and many of their other older siblings work for their mother in the orchards and get a big allowance. The sheer number of them though, and Aluloona's self-indulgent personality, means she hasn't bothered to remember their names.

Full body
Phoenix

A harpy that Glenn & Co. rescue from a group of slavers and ends up living in the Vivre Mountains.

  • Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: Due to the combination of a small bra and short shorts as her only clothing, her entire abdominal section is completely exposed.
  • Combat Pragmatist: This is about the only way she knows how to fight, thanks to spending most of her life in the slums, with her using various underhanded tricks in order to get the upper hand and beat her opponents. Though against a trained warrior like Tisalia, even these tactics don't help her much.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Most of her life was spent simply enjoying flying everywhere, with her using the excitement to keep from thinking too much about things, but thanks to her recently losing so many feathers, she can't fly anymore, so she's been forced to come to the realization that she doesn't know what to do with her life. She tried out fighting but found it wasn't for her, and proceeded to worry about where she should go and what she should do. She eventually comes to the conclusion that she doesn't need to find a new purpose in life, as not only was her feathers falling out just a sign of her entering adulthood, but her learning she is related to The Phoenix, meaning she both gets new, more beautiful wings and already has something special about her, makes her content in just being herself and living her life near her new home. She also becomes a delivery harpy in the air mail division of Scythia Transportation, as she's a very fast flier.
  • Exposed to the Elements: Much of her tribe doesn't wear much (what with males being shirtless), even though they live near the mountains. It's justified in that they have a much higher body temperature than humans, similar to birds.
  • Famous Ancestor: Her personal arc eventually reveals that she is descended from a legendary figure of the world. Specifically, she is a descendant of The Phoenix, the legendary firebird that is believed to be immortal. While this doesn't make her a legendary creature herself, she does gain the magnificent plumage of the creature once she enters adulthood, and unbeknownst to her, the new wings she gained hold the heat of the phoenix's flames within them.
  • Fiery Redhead: Illy tends to be kind of feisty and she has mostly red hair and feathers. It becomes especially fitting when she learns about her holding the blood of The Phoenix in her veins, which also makes her feathers produce high heat once she enters adulthood, causing the "fiery" part to be quite literal.
  • Harping on About Harpies: She's a harpy, meaning she has wings attached to her forearms, bird-like legs with clawed feet, and she lays unfertilized eggs periodically. She in particular is a special type of harpy, being descended from The Phoenix, with her acquiring both its colorful plumage and fiery heat once she enters adulthood.
  • Idiot Hair: It's actually a biological feature of her species called a crest, with it reacting to her emotions, such as flicking about when she's nervous.
  • Kick Chick: As her arms are completely taken up by wings, with neither hand-like appendages nor Feather Fingers, her main way of fighting, besides dirty tactics, is to kick and claw at people with her feet and sharp talons.
  • Parental Abandonment: Illy has been alone for as long as she can remember and thus has no idea who her parents were, adding to the mystery of her evidently legendary lineage.
  • Signature Laugh: "~kishishi!"
  • Stripperiffic: She wears a small bra and short shorts, leaving most of her body exposed.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Similar to how birds recoil at eyeball patterns (i.e. discs) in real life, Illy instinctively runs away at the sight of Memé's single large eye. She doesn't truly dislike the girl, and she's capable of powering through her natural reaction to look her straight in the eye when enjoying some fun time together, but it still freaks her out.

Bigger than she looks

A gigas who lives high in the Vivre Mountains near Lindworm.

  • Absurdly Long Wait: Due to the fact that when she first caught a cold she thought sleeping would cure it, she spent the next 10 years sick until she finally woke up again and decided to seek a doctor. Once she got treated, she improved easily and also was provided with warm clothing to prevent her from getting sick again.
  • Ambiguously Brown: She has a moderately brown skin complexion despite spending most of her life in the Vivre Mountains where sunlight is limited, especially with her spending decades to centuries sleeping in a cave. However, unlike other characters with darker complexions who either have a tan or are part of a dark-skinned ethnicity, the fact she has tree-bark-like skin means her brown skin is simply because she has a plant-like biology.
  • Barefoot Poverty: She originally only wore a ragged shirt and pants without any shoes, due to the fact there didn't exist any pre-made clothes for somebody her size, and the last time she interacted with other people there weren't any arachnes around. It's the reason why she caught a cold that lasted 10 years, due to her home being in the snowy Vivre Mountains. Following her meeting and being healed by Glenn of her illness, he had Arahnia fashion her a cold-resistant outfit, sturdy and warm shoes included, so that she wouldn't need to worry about the cold anymore.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Rather than being just a humanoid giant, she has a number of odd physical features, the most obvious being the long white fur that grows on her arms and legs. In the light novel, when feeling her forehead, Glenn notes her skin has a hardness to it that reminds him of tree bark. He speculates her skin may support her body more than her bones do, and that her body structure may have a lot in common with plant-like monsters. Indeed, he also notes that her green hair color comes from moss growing on it due to her spending long periods of time not moving. Finally, he concludes her metabolism is extremely slow, a method by which she can support her huge size without needing equivalently huge volumes of food.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Even disregarding her being a gigas and thus naturally bigger than other races, her chest size proportionally compared to other girls is one of, if not the biggest around, and due to her gigas nature, she possesses some of the highest strength around.
  • Cute Giant: While she's a Giant Woman with earth-shaking strength, both her appearance and friendly personality make her quite cute, especially after she gets fixed up and is given proper clothing.
  • Does Not Know Her Own Strength: While she's actually very aware of how strong she is, she finds it incredibly difficult to moderate how much she uses, requiring her to be slow and careful when so much as moving in order to not cause massive destruction, since even the smallest step can cause massive tremors. As a result, she often sits around doing nothing unless she absolutely needs to.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: Her hair is styled in such a way as to completely obscure her eyes. Even after having her hair trimmed and styled by Kay and Lorna, it still covers her eyes.
  • Gentle Giant: Despite being absolutely colossal and causing earth-shaking tremors whenever she moves, along with being a member of a race viewed as dangerous gods, she's actually a complete sweetheart who has no intention of harming anybody. In fact, she heavily limits her actions to avoid causing trouble unless something comes up that forces her to act, such as getting sick and needing a doctor.
  • Heavy Sleeper: She takes this to exaggerated levels. As a being that can live for millennia, she's also capable of spending thousands of years sleeping. 10 years for her was effectively a night's rest trying to sleep off her cold.
  • Last of Her Kind: She is the last surviving member of the gigas species, their own great size apparently causing most of them to die out in ancient times.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: She has long, voluminous hair that reaches just below her knees when standing straight, and she has an especially gentle and womanly attitude despite her gigantic physique.
  • Long-Lived: She has been alive for thousands of years, making her substantially older than even Skadi and one of the oldest beings in the series, though a lot of her life has been spent in hibernation. The novel implies she could sleep for 10,000 years and still be okay.
  • Marshmallow Hell: She winds up accidentally giving Glenn a smothering with her breasts twice after he falls on top of her, with their softness causing him to be swallowed up by them. He risked dying from crushing and suffocation due to their sheer volume. Both times Dione pulls him out, with him falling back in after the first time due to her grabbing his shoe and him slipping out of it.
  • Meaningful Name: Her surname is a Hebrew word commonly translated as "giants".
  • Mundane Utility: As she's against using her Super-Strength for hurting others, the main use for it is aiding in heavy lifting and construction, such as when heavily massive boulders fall from the mountains into the harpy village and need moving.
  • Plant Hair: A partial variant, as while her hair is mostly human-like, the reason it's green-colored is because of moss growing all throughout it.
  • Strange-Syntax Speaker: She speaks very slowly, drawing out most of her words, which brings to mind mentally "slow" people who have difficulties speaking. Despite the speech connotations, though, she's neither dumb nor possessing mental problems, and is actually quite highly aware of both her surroundings and how to moderate her strength the best she can. Instead, the reason for her slow speech is because the Square-Cube Law is fully in effect for her, her gigas-born Super-Strength doing nothing to lessen the greater effort required to utilize her vocal cords than smaller people.

    Plum Murdrac

Plum Murdrac

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e3xnlzux0ae4hts.jpg

A vampire girl from the noble Murdrac family.

  • The Fashionista: Plum wants to be this, believing wearing the right clothes is the key to overcoming her lack of confidence brought about by her sheltered upbringing. To that end, she considers Arahnia her mentor despite having never actually met her until Volume 7 (and Arahnia has no interest in being a teacher, though she does like having fans). Unfortunately for Plum, her anatomy makes wearing certain accessories and clothes difficult or even dangerous, in particular sharp accessories risk tearing her wing membranes (leading to the bloodlust shenanigans of her introduction).
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Plums.

Nemea Academy

    Lime

Lime

A slime that worked alongside Glenn and Sapphee during their time at Nemea Academy. She currently works as a nurse at Lindworm Central Hospital.

  • Book Dumb: Glenn mentioned that her grades weren't really good during her time at the Academy.
  • Hidden Depths: She had feelings for Glenn, but she hid them due to knowing it would destroy the laboratory group. She still hasn't gotten over them even years later, but due to an injury during his time at Nemea, Glenn has mostly forgotten her (though there are signs his memory is returning as the parts of herself she donated to save him slowly integrate into his body).
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Since people can't pronounce her real name.
  • Slime Girl: An amorphous lime colored slime that takes the shape of a girl. Her species is descended from shoggoths, which also possess the same abilities, although shoggoths are apparently stronger as Lime thinks she wouldn't be able to escape if Molly tried to absorb her.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Lime, hence the nickname she goes by.
  • The Unpronounceable: Her real name is Sphwllympf.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifter: Naturally with being a slime, she's able to form her body into a variety of different shapes and even alters her density for different purposes. She can even create replacement parts for people from her own body and integrate them into another, having done this to replace the damaged parts of Glenn's brain and nerves after he suffered a serious head injury. She's notably unique among known slimes in being able to do this, as most can only mimic the form of a body part or organ, not actually become it. She notes even for her it is very difficult (it is implied to have taken years for the parts she made for Glenn to fully become part of him), and she doesn't know why she's able to do it when other slimes can't. Her abilities are why Cthulhy keeps her close, despite Lime's grades during her years at the academy having been quite bad.

    Cerve

Cerve

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/81ukgbgavls.jpg

A Cerberus student during Glenn and Sapphee's time at Nemea Academy.

  • Multiple Head Case: She has two dog heads growing out of her shoulders, each with its own brain.

    Bellmer

Bellmer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e3xnkuqwyae_jax.jpg

A living marionette created by Dr. Draconia to assist her with various tasks around Nemea Academy.

  • Batman Gambit: Executes one of these to get Dr. Draconia to see Cthulhy about her back pain since she would not leave the Sorcery Building. She purposefully put stress on her threads and joints, but Dr. Draconia saw nothing wrong. She did not go to Cthulhy herself due to her rivalry with her master and dislike of medicine, so she went to her student Glenn repeatedly knowing Draconia would eventually visit herself to insist she treat her instead. Once Draconia finally left the Sorcery Department to collect Bellmer, Lime just happened to summon Cthulhy and she would drag Draconia off for treatment.
  • French Maid: She typically wears this attire and serves Dr. Draconia.
  • Marionette Motion: She usually moves like this, but often exaggerates this on purpose.
  • Murderous Mannequin: Averted. She exists to serve Dr. Draconia and has no desire to hurt others.

    Fuso

Fuso

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e3xnkbaweakwuvr.jpg

A silkworm god student at Nemea Academy. She currently works as a distinguished designer for Loose Silk Sewing.

  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Fuso is quite intelligent and skilled in crafting, design, etc. but tends to get people to serve her needs while shirking any work. She blames this on her race being bred to be a Henchmen Race, although Glenn says she could live on her own if she wanted to.
  • Henchmen Race: Of the customization variety. The silkworm god race was among the only ones to live side-by-side with humans before the war and was domesticated by humans to produce lots of silk. As a result, they have weaker bodies and cease producing silk as they get older. Despite this relationship, humans stopped living with them when tensions leading to the war started. Fuso attempts to use this to guilt Glenn into serving her, although she tends to use people in general.
  • I Will Find You: Promises Glenn that they will live together one day. In the present day, Lime hopes she doesn't hear about Glenn to act on this.
  • Manipulative Bitch: After Glenn tries to leave her to go back to the lab and work on school, she attempts to guilt him into continuing to serve her. When Lime, Sapphee, and her fan club finds her, we find out that she has gotten many people to work for her.
  • Mistress and Servant Boy: She wants this relationship with Glenn.
  • Naturalized Name: Her original name is Fu Sang.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: Uses this to try guilting Glenn into serving and mating with her. While he does feel bad about what humans did to her race, he shoots this down because it happened before he was born and is not responsible for their actions.
  • Too Important to Walk: Has weak legs due to her race having been bred for silk, but Glenn diagnosed that she could walk by herself with a walking aid. She wants him to wait on her.
  • Unwanted Assistance: She gets this from her fan club, although this has more to do with wanting Glenn to be the one serving her needs not them.

    Draconia

Draconia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e3xnjwdwqaqqq9p.jpg

A sobek (a crocodilian monster) in charge of the magic division of the academy. Small in stature and with a personality befitting a hermit, she has a mostly one-sided dislike for the science-focused Cthulhy.

The East

A human-dominated region that resembles real-world Japan in culture and consists of various islands devoted to particular functions (an island for the government, islands for farming, and so on) and ruled over by an emperor. Its capital city is called Heian and covers an entire island. Glenn's homeland, later volumes in the series focus heavily on dealing with issues related to it.

    Duke Auchraw

Duke Auchraw

A high-ranking official noted for his extreme hatred of monsters. His machinations span several volumes.

    Souen Litbeit

Souen Litbeit

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0_souen.jpg

Glenn's older brother. Set to inherit the family company he is a sly and ambitious politician who can be difficult to trust but makes a valuable ally.

    Saki

Saki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0_saki.jpg

Souen's lover, a beautiful and willful older woman who went through demonitis.

    Arachnida

Arachnida

Arahnia's mother, an extremely accomplished seductress and career criminal. Currently living in hiding somewhere near Heian, the consequences of her escapades form the core of the plot of volume 8.

  • Sex Goddess: So good at it that a group of her abandoned human lovers formed a literal cult devoted to her in an effort to get her to come back to them.
