[up] Bringing this up from Repeating Ad:

  • Anyone who has subscribed to MLB.tv (Major League Baseball's online streaming service) knows how horrifically the company abuses ALL FOUR of these themes. In fact, in the course of a single baseball game, lasting around 2 hours and 40 minutes, there are somewhere around FORTY commercials (of two varieties) for the same service that you were already using to view the game! Add in the fact that there are only about three distinct commercials to go around, and you get the idea.
    • Other MLB viewers will get much of the same. Those using DirecTV's Extra Innings package to view their out-of-market baseball games will often find their entire commercial break populated by DirecTV commercials. Most noticeable when, on at least one occasion, four consecutive commercials of the "smear the competition" variety aired, all stating reasons why DirecTV is better than rival Dish Network (the anti-Dish commercials rarely air just one at a time, but blocks of two anti-Dish commercials combined with other DirecTV commercials are more common).
    • Hulu does this a lot. On the plus side, there's only one commercial. On the other, it's always the same one.
    • Let's just say that every online streaming service does this and leave it at that.

[up]I kinda think that's too general, though I guess that more so applies to the final paragraph. I also feel the Hulu part is kinda unrelated in this case, so I'd cut the third paragraph. I moreover think it's fine to combine the second paragraph with the first, though it'll need to be trimmed so it wouldn't count as a Wall of Text example. I also feel it has complaining, which'll need to be toned down.

This Ultraterrestrials example keeps arguing with itself:

  • In the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Distant Origin", the starship encounters an ancient civilization of Earth dinosaurs. However, the theory that dinosaurs originate on Earth quickly gets branded as heresy, since it conflicts with the dogma that they have always been in their current region of space.
    • Interestingly, their leader doesn't necessarily say that the Distant Origin theory is wrong. It just happens to contradict the Doctrine, on which their entire culture is based. She's perfectly willing to let the Voyager (i.e. the evidence that humans and Voth are related) go, as long as the scientist making the claim is willing to give up the theory and be relegated into obscurity. She's simply protecting her race's cultural identity.
    • Except that Doctrine is also what gives her the right to rule (without any apparent checks on power or transparency), so she's also protecting her authority. Regardless of whether Strawman Has a Point, this is coming at the cost of stifling scientific progress and denying the Voth any right to debate a new discovery regarding their origin or potential genetic relationship with another spacefaring species.

Bringing this up from Only So Many Canadian Actors:

  • Australian soaps Neighbours and Home and Away have at some point featured pretty much every well-known actor the country produces. Neighbours is particularly notable for having starred Kylie Minogue, Jesse Spencer, Dichen Lachman, Guy Pearce, Holly Valance and Delta Goodrem before they got famous.
    • Not to mention Academy Award winner Russell Crowe and character actor Alan Dale.
    • KJ Apa is a New Zealand example who got his start on Shortland Street.
    • Blue Water High and H₂O: Just Add Water are examples for kids' TV, having collectively featured actors who've starred in everything from the Tomorrow: When the War Began action movie, to Power Rangers RPM, Dance Academy, The Pacific, and, of course, Neighbours.
    • Starting to happen in Britain too: regard the way an actor might have a successful run in one of the popular soap operas, such as Eastenders, leave the show or be written out, and then, after a decent interval to allow memories of the original character to fade, they'll pop up again playing an entirely new character in Coronation Street or Emmerdale. There appears to be quite a lot of this going on, although not quite to Australian levels. Yet. There is also the phenomenon of all the panel game shows where a seemingly small pool of panellists keep popping up on each other's shows, as if there's a well-established circuit. In between earning a living on all the panel shows, people like Phill Jupitus and Katherine Ryan occassionally find time to do a bit of stand-up comedy, and Lee Mack sometimes takes time out to appear in a sitcom...
    • With Irish actors, there's a growing number of productions that feature cast members who were either in Fair City or Love/Hate, especially the latter if the work is Darker and Edgier. Some productions also have actors who popped up on Father Ted.

Those should probably each be their own individual bullets, and some of the tenses/grammar can get cleaned up "have at some pointed featured" and "produces" are different tenses.

The bit about Britain needs to be cleaned up too. For starters, it should probably just say the UK, and "starting to happen" should go because examples are not recent (nothing is starting to happen. It either happened or it didn't). Also "regard the way" feels like "fancy" matter for "look at how" (most people probably wouldn't say "regard this thing I noticed"). "Leave the show or be written out" can be the same thing, so should be condensed to "leave the show"

"There appears to be quite a lot of this going on, although not quite to Australian levels. Yet. " can all get cut. So can "In between earning a living on all the panel shows, people like Phill Jupitus and Katherine Ryan occassionally find time to do a bit of stand-up comedy, and Lee Mack sometimes takes time out to appear in a sitcom..." This example isn't about the small pool and instead just focuses on particular actors, but this doesn't have to be a list.

Clean up the sentence about the panel shows "There is also the phenomenon of" is needless. I would rewrite it to:

  • This also occurs with various panel shows where a familiar pool of panelists keep popping up on each other's shows, such as Mock the Week.

There should probably be a proper example in there, I just picked "Mock the Week" at random, it doesn't have to be that.

Bringing this up from the Rescued page for Western Animation examples of Keep Circulating the Tapes:

Dramatic Since: Jun, 2012
#2346: Oct 26th 2022 at 4:17:15 PM

[up] That can be reduced down to just the first sentence, with maybe mentioning a few stand-out specific examples if there is more to it than just "series got a DVD release".

The YMMV page for Halo 3 I think has some natter-y Fridge entries:

  • Fridge Horror: If Gravemind wasn't in such a hurry to get to the Ark, the Flood would have had plenty of opportunity to infest Earth and wipe out what little remains of humanity, leaving the Chief and company backing up a graveyard while they were preoccupied with Truth.
    • Well, they did try to, dropping off an infected Covenant cruiser in Voi, which would have quickly taken over the entire planet had it not been for Vadum glassing the immediate area before anything could escape.
  • Fridge Logic: Even had Truth succeeded in firing the Halo rings, he wouldn't have been able to kill all life in the Galaxy as the game implies - without Installation 04, there would have been a huge gap in the Array's firing coverage.
    • Although considering neither humanity nor the Covenant found Installation 04 beforehand, despite our already existing space telescope power in Real Life, it’s heavily implied there’s nothing remotely worthwhile in that 7th of the galaxy, anyway.
    • All life in sixth sevenths of the galaxy being killed isn't much better than all life in the galaxy being killed.

For Fridge Horror: This is just "The story would've gone differently if a character behaved differently", which I don't think counts as a Fridge example. The second bullet is just describing a plot point.

For Fridge Logic: Halopedia has a section on his character page dedicated to trying to decipher his motives, as it is admittedly a bit all over the place. It boils down to him believing that firing the rings will let him achieve Godhood, either literally or by wiping the Galaxy clean of life, letting him rule over what's left. With that context, I'm fairly certain that "with one ring destroyed, he can only destroy most of the galaxy's life and not all of it" is pretty much irrelevant to his goals and motivations.

no, the Fridge Logic entry is flat-out invalid. the Prophet was caught up in megalomania and wasn't letting such insignificant things as one of the installations being destroyed get in the way of his plans.

and anyway, Fridge Logic is supposed to go on Headscratchers/, not Fridge/.
