Art by Crash X Fusion: Ready to make a wish, birthday girl?

As Willow makes the most of her birthday, Luz goes on an errand run, Eda deals with some loose ends, Gus learns a shocking truth, and Amity has an adventure with the Gatesfield teens.

Tropes that appear in this Chapter:

  • Adaptation Expansion: Alador recommended that Willow be placed in the Abomination track to her fathers after she lost control of her powers. This incident played into his siding with Odalia about Amity cutting ties with Willow as he feared for his daughter's safety.
  • Adaptation Species Change: The mailman Soos believed to be a werewolf in Gravity Falls is confirmed to be one in LC.
  • Answer Cut: At the end of her news report in the beginning, Felicity asks where Amity has gone to now that she's been outed as a Fae and left the Isles. The next scene shows her having breakfast with Dipper, Ford, and Soos at Dolores' house.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Played With. Mel has been taken care of, but her goal of having a cult following to worship her has actually succeeded thanks to Batters starting one on the Isles.
  • Big Damn Reunion: At the humans' surprise party, Willow is reunited with the former Gatesfieldians and Rose while Emira and Luz's extended friend group are able to check up on Amity following her Self-Imposed Exile.
  • Big "WHAT?!":
    • Arthur and Destiny, in the middle of "grieving" over Amity on air, share one upon hearing that Cluckington's been caught in a scandal.
    • This chapter ends with Abigail shouting one after hearing Luz ask Amity if she wants to get married.
  • Birthday Episode: This chapter follows up on Willow's 15th birthday mentioned in the previous chapter. She hangs out with Skara, Amelia, Cat, Viney and Bo during the day, has a party with her friends in the evening, then everyone goes to the Human Realm for a human-hosted party and she, Skara, Luz, and Amity all have a double date at night.
  • Black Comedy Cannibalism: Cluckington turns out to have been a cannibal, Felicia tipping off the scouts after Beel gets her the dirt; said scouts find chicken nuggets and roast turkey while searching his fridge.
  • Breather Episode: After all the chaos that came with the "Underworld" arc, everybody is given the chance to relax and take care of a few errands and such, a fact especially true for the witchlings since school's closed for the day following the end of the lockdown.
  • Brick Joke: While having breakfast, Soos mentions wanting to introduce Amity to tacos. She later has tacos for dinner while on her double date. It also comes full circle from "Human Date" when Luz wanted to get some tacos for Amity to eat before she came across Rev. Jones and Farmer Sprott.
  • The Bus Came Back: Sam Shin, the woman seen watching over Willow in the past and during her first date with Skara in "The Pride Special", returns.
  • Call-Back:
    • The chapter begins the same way "Recovering" did; with Felicity making an announcement about Amity after she gets involved in a scandal, and the Blights refusing to comment on the matter.
    • The Masterskulls take advantage of Luz and Eda stopping by to return Donna's key to invite them into their home for breakfast to repay Eda for saving their daughter twice.
    • Upon seeing the Homunculi in the Atos household, Luz remembers how Eda promised to teach her how to make them all the way back in "Double, Double, Tutor and Trouble", a promise long forgotten after 101 chapters.
    • Professor Snope is adamant about Luz taking on the Inner Demon again, informing her of when he and his friends failed in defeating him themselves.
    • Boscha apologizes to Bo for making Skara end their friendship back in Season 1. Bo forgives her on the spot since Boscha's been through worse.
    • Willow compares the Crawlspace to the Magus Bazaar.
    • Luz wounds up recalling how Amber tricked her and Amity into dressing like a bride and groom for their date at the Socket; since they're going to be separated for the time being, Luz up and pops the question as a result.
  • The Cameo:
    • Geist is seen at the beginning helping Edric and Emira scare away reporters with an illusion of a dragon.
    • Like Geist, Faust is seen during Felicity's report and expels Amity due to her half-Fae status.
  • Camera Abuse: While keeping reporters away from the orphanage, Jak takes out a camera during the news broadcast using his slingshot.
  • The Chessmaster. Implied. Eda outright confronts Ms. Traveler about her being Rosie and being more powerful than she plays herself up as, and it spirals into her voicing her worries about Luz and Amity turning out like her. After talking about these concerns and discussing solutions with Julia:
Eda: Wait... did you seriously get me from interrogating you to venting my issues?
Julia: That's what I'm here for.
  • The Cloudcuckoolander Was Right: Due to the aforementioned Adaptation Species Change, Soos was right to suspect his mailman is a werewolf.
  • Commonality Connection: Acorn turns out to be a kindred spirit to Amity as she also ran away from home due to mother issues and high expectations. The second she sees the connection, Amity steps up to keep Acorn from repeating her own mistakes by mediating between her and her mother.
  • Connected All Along: While in Hell, Lilith learned that Clair is a member of the extended Clawthorne family: this means that Cross is too, making him one of Luz's cousins.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The Clawthornes' recent trip through Hell and the Underworld is repeatedly brought up; naturally, all those involved in the rescue party aren't too eager to talk about it so soon.
    • The Dark Arts District seen in "No Big Deal" appears again as Luz's usual female friends visit it for another outing.
    • Lumity facing the Grim Goblin and the Coachman along with fighting in the Glandus War are all brought up by Gus G. while talking with Amity about her and Luz's crazy adventures.
    • Lilith recalls that Vina was secretly a Child Hater.
    • Vanessa Pierce mentions that the Shadowy Secret Expozers are still investigating the symbol on King's collar.
    • Eda begins trying to talk things out with Abigail for Luz's sake: it does not go well on the first try.
    • Gus P. notes how he didn't take the opportunity to interact with Gus G. during their last meeting.
    • Amelia brings up her dream to reshape the Isles' oppressive government by going into law like her mother.
    • Dipper brings up Preston hitting Pacifica and trying to kill him only to be decked by Nora and arrested while running for mayor.
    • The Hermano Brothers restaurant is seen as the place where Lumity and Skarlow go to eat for their double date. Luz lampshades what the name translates to thanks to her Spanish lessons.
    • Skara tells Willow, Luz, and Amity about her experience in Wonderland.
  • Crush Blush: Clara blushes heavily when Amity correctly guesses she's crushing on Masha.
  • A Day in the Limelight:
    • Willow gets her own subplot along with Luz, Amity, and Eda as it's her birthday and she makes the most of it before traveling to the Human Realm to check up on Amity.
    • To a lesser extent, Gus P. has his own plot as he learns Gilbert and Sully have been keeping a repressed memory of Willow hidden away and talks to them about it as they play Monopoly.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: Or ENBY, in this case. Denise turns out to have had feelings for Raine but wound up losing them to Eda since they transferred schools after the IFWOT.
  • Disappeared Dad: Felicia confesses that her dad walked out on Felicity while she was pregnant with her.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Abigail venomously tells Eda not to call her "Abby" as Eda tries to talk to her.
  • Don't Ask: Said in vertabim by Luz when Amity sees that Eda's wanted in the Crawlspace.
  • Don't Explain the Joke: While discussing sexuality with Clara, Amity describes herself as a "Luzbian". She proceeds to explain before Clara stops her.
  • Double Take: Amelia has this kind of reaction in response to meeting another Gus.
  • Everybody Knew Already: When Eda meets Malphas at the library and asks if he's from Hell, Malphas admits he had been expecting her to come and question him, having seen her and Blitzo at Stella's party.
  • Everyone Can See It: As a fellow lesbian, Amity automatically figures out who Clara's interested in.
  • Everyone Meets Everyone: All of Luz's friends meet and greet with Dipper, Wendy, Soos, Vee, Ford, Rose, and the Gatesfieldians when they come to the Human Realm to celebrate the humans' party for Willow. Additionally, Boscha introduces Acorn and Bo to each other while Eda officially meets Nora.
  • Evil Stole My Faith: Batters has lost faith in Belos and the Titan after learning Emily was the Golden Guard and devotes himself to another god; to Willow's discomfort, it's Mel.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Odalia stops by the old Clawthorne home to talk to Lilith and Gwendolyn & Dell hide out of sight to listen in, popping up when they offer Odalia a place to stay for the time being.
  • Face Palm: Clara performs this when Rudo tells Celestabellebethabelle that the kids were stealing her hair.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Skara doesn't notice that the Red Azaleas cause some parts of her body to take on their wolf characteristics.
  • Forced Transformation: Two downplayed cases and they both involve Skara. First her tail pops out wagging after Masha compliments her for being the lucky werewolf witch dating Willow (to her embarrassment) and again, along with her nose, fangs, and ears, when she smells the Red Azaleas Willow buys for her in the Crawlspace.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Luz asks Felicia if Todd is her dad and wonders if one could make a bigger homunculi, to Staggertarious' amusement.
    • The name Sam Shin has a deeper meaning.
  • Forgiveness:
    • Bo gives Boscha hers for what she had done to her and Skara since she's proven she's trying to make up for her past actions.
    • It's also discussed between Amity and Emira regarding the latter being unable to call Odalia "mom" again due to all the years of neglect and abuse she put the twins through.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: At the human birthday party for Willow, Edric and Viney spend time together as they learn about Earth-based animals by observing Waddles and Gompers. Emira notes that the two of them are long overdue for a chance to spend time together.
  • Genre Savvy: Cross knows that Luz and Eda have a habit of getting the attention of the Emperor's Coven practically on a daily basis. That's more than enough reason not to tell them he and his mother are members of their family since he's trying to keep his own off of the coven's radar.
  • The Ghost:
    • Hunter is mentioned to have successfully gotten Cross out of his deal with Graye and is noted to have sent Willow a present for her birthday.
    • Nina is mentioned by Skara who says she wishes Willow a happy birthday. Later, Skara talks about how much the werecat's changed during the double date.
    • Amity brings up Phil while talking abominations with Clara.
    • Paulina is brought up by Clara who notes she tried to join sports teams back home only to be rejected by Gatesfield's sexist school board.
    • King stays at home with Camila to watch over Kay and Maurice, so Eda brings his homemade gift to Willow to her.
    • Clair is mentioned during Lilith and Cross's crow call, as she's the connection between her son being a member of her pre-marital family.
    • Skara mentions her aunt Scandalyn travels all over the Demon Realm not unlike Sam Shin.
    • Candy and Grenda are said to be having a sleepover at Pacifica's house during the second surprise party.
  • Girl's Night Out Episode: To celebrate Willow's birthday, Skara, Amelia, Cat, Bo, and Viney take her to the Dark Arts District to spend the day there having fun.
  • Given Name Reveal: The woman Gilbert and Sully met before adopting Willow is known as Sam Shin.
  • Good-Times Montage: To kick off Willow's birthday, Skara, Amelia, Cat, Bo, and Viney take her to the Dark Arts District. There, they play in the arcade, take an art class Cat signed them up for, try on clothes, and perform at the karaoke bar.
  • Hammerspace: The Atos family home looks like a normal two-story house on the outside, but inside there's a long hallway with several rooms to store their inventions.
  • Hidden Depths: Diana used to be a cheerleader with Denise back when they were students, and they performed in a three-witch singing group with a guy named Marvin.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Staggertarious had been too determined to succeed in creating Artifical Titan's Blood even after Ford sabotaged their work, and it cost him his body.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Anytime someone brings up Hell or asks Amity if she's doing okay fall under this.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Ford asks someone to help him set up defenses for the Mystery Shack by gathering unicorn hair, which they successfully do.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Amity meets Rose for the first time, with Luz and their friends doing so later that evening.
    • Dipper has briefed Vee, Ford, Rose, his friends, and the former Gatesfieldians on Amity's situation.
    • Amity informs the Gatesfieldians, Wendy, and Vee about her trip through Hell and tells Clara the history between her mom, Angel, and Eda as teenagers. She also learns of Clara coming out and being attracted to Masha.
    • Luz meets several individuals throughout the day, mostly on her errand run;
      • Diana and Gladys, whom she and Eda both meet while returning Donna's key.
      • Todd when she meets with Felicia at the coffee shop to discuss business.
      • Staggertarious after Felicia passes on Sarah's message to her.
      • Vanessa when looking into Gibson and learning that the new SSE has been investigating the symbol on King's collar.
    • The Masterskulls learn that Eda is old friends with Raine.
    • Luz discovers that Penlit was murdered by the Emperor's Coven not long after she was done with him.
    • Odalia meets with Lilith to inform her of the attempt on her life and is told of her being stuck with a bound spirit. Odalia also learns of Mel and Trini causing her affair with Lilith, Hunter returning to the castle to help his friends and Geist informed her about Amity.
    • Gilbert and Sully come clean to Gus P. about Willow's locked up memory.
    • Professor Snope tells Luz about his experience with the Inner Demon after being told of her deal with the Baron.
    • Boscha, Edric, Emira, and Bo visit the Human Realm for the first time.
    • All of Luz's friends visit Gravity Falls, with Skara getting to see the town during her and Willow's double date with Lumity.
    • Dipper informs Luz about what happened during election week.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Vina's just being a bitch, but she's right to assume that Belos won't stop keeping tabs on Cross after he's let off the hook with Graye and that Odalia staying with Lilith at her parents' house may give people the wrong idea should she be found there.
  • Kick the Dog: Since Vina's a spirit and only Lilith can see her, she takes advantage of this by insulting Odalia in front of her former apprentice. Lilith keeps her cool enough to explain the situation to Odalia.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Downplayed. Clara's response to Amity calling herself a "Luzbian" is to just...blink.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall:
    • Amity encounters Rose, another character who shares her voice actress and they're both unnerved by how their voices sound alike.
    • Jerbo, Barcus, Dana, and Rudo bond over their being Out of Focus compared to the rest of their friends in exchange for being comic relief, but appreciate the lack of drama they have to go through.
    • Luz mentions that Blubs and Durland are the only police officers ever seen in Gravity Falls, a fact that pretty much became true following "Headhunters".
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: Acorn's swearing habit turns out to come from her mother.
  • Locked Out of the Loop:
    • For now, Cross isn't going to tell Luz and Eda that his mother is a Clawthorne as he'd rather they and the rest of the Drakescales not be connected to the Clawthornes and their attention-bringing chaos.
    • Lilith doesn't specify which spirit she's seeing to Odalia and Odalia doesn't tell Lilith who saved her from death and has been staying with over the weekend... yet.
    • Elliot, Eileen, Simon, and Tom are the only guests at Willow's Demon Realm party who are unaware of Amity being in the Human Realm.
    • Vee decides against letting all of Luz's friends know she's a basilisk.
  • Luminescent Blush:
    • Clara has a heavy blush when Amity admits she knows Clara likes Masha.
    • Willow and Skara share one after seeing they painted each other during the art class.
  • Must Make Amends: After what happened to Amity, Felicia chooses to help drag her grandparents' names through the mud to make up for outing her as nameless.
  • Mythology Gag: The Crawlspace, the supernatural underground business place seen in Gravity Falls: Lost Legends, is the main place of interest visited by Lumity and Skarlow during their double date. While browsing around, Eda's "Wanted!" Poster is seen, Mr. What's-His-Face appears doing business with Toby Determined, the "Nightmare Fuel" and "Assorted Curses" stands are seen, and the girls come across the Blind Eye Society member selling memory tubes, confiscating all of them, including the one of Wendy's mother.
  • Named by the Adaptation: The werewolf mailman is formally introduced as Russell.
  • Noodle Incident: With the Crawlspace being inducted into a series that combines The Owl House and Gravity Falls, whatever Eda did to warrant receiving a wanted poster there becomes this.
  • No Sympathy: All of Amity's friends feel like the Isles have forgotten about all the good she did before she was exposed as half-Fae, and of course Principal Faust expels her from school again just based on the revelation.
  • Oblivious Transformation: The second time Skara unintentionally has a partial transformation, she's completely unaware of it occurring, and this was after noticing the first time her tail popped up. Willow, Luz, and Amity also don't point it out.
  • One-Steve Limit: Sam Shin, Willow's godmother, shares her first name with Amity's shadow.
  • Out of Focus: The kids in Gravity Falls set off to find and obtain the unicorn hair for Ford with Wendy, leaving the Pines, Abigail, Nora, and Rose to vanish until they're all together again to prep Willow's second surprise party.
  • Parental Neglect: As Clara mentions, Abigail's depression and distancing herself led to her neglecting her daughter all her life.
  • The Perfectionist: Luz identifies Sarah as one after seeing her disappointment with her breakfast gumdrops making Luz's tongue the wrong shade of blue.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Invoked by Belos, as everyone who's in the know about what kind of monster he truly is knows he only pardoned Amity because it makes him look benevolent to the population.
    • Learning from her mistakes as well as Amity's, Juniper allows Acorn to stay with the witch-fae hybrid provided she writes to her every week about what her experiences and the lessons she learns from each one.
  • Point of Divergence: Amity's subplot is the adaptation of "The Last Mabelcorn": without Mabel, Candy, and Grenda, Wendy watches over a different group of kids as they work to obtain the unicorn hair for Ford, with Vee, Dana, and Rudo playing the listed girls' roles. Since nobody believes any of them are pure of heart, they automatically decide on getting the fairy dust to knock out the unicorn and take the hair. Celestabellebethabelle is Demoted to Extra and the other unicorns don't appear with the plan to claim the hair a success without the need for violence. It isn't disclosed if Ford told Dipper about his past with Bill Cipher.
  • The Reveal:
    • Alador has dropped out of the public eye since Amity was exposed as part Fae.
    • Cluckington turned out to be a cannibal, and Beel (under the Code Name "Thorax") got the dirt for Felicia to expose him.
      • In addition to exposing Cluckington, Luz has Felicia trying to dig up dirt on Gibson, Arthur, and Destiny.
    • Denise is a bard and attended St. Epiderm in her youth, as did Diana and Gladys. She also had a crush on Raine before they transferred to Hexside.
    • Before Felicia was born, her dad ran out on Felicity and she considered an abortion before deciding that having a child would boost her ratings.
    • Everyone who ever became an enemy to the Clawthornes prior to the petrification ceremony were discretely killed by the Emperor's Coven so Luz wouldn't be put at risk before Belos could meet her, including Ms. Torigore and the victims of the slayground incident who wouldn't keep quiet.
    • Malphas noticed Eda sneaking around with Blitzo at Stolas' manor.
    • Lilith learned that Clair's a member of the Clawthorne family during a private conversation with Cross in Hell and agreed to keep it secret from Luz and Eda until he's ready to say something.
    • The story behind Willow's memory photo is revealed as being the result of Willow being bullied in daycare. Gilbert and Sully took her to the Oracle institute when her magic wouldn't power down naturally and after her treatment, Alador stopped by their home to recommend she be put in the Abomination track once enrolled in school to prevent another incident from happening until she was more experienced with her magic.
    • Acorn turns out to be the princess of a tribe of pixies, having run away due to the expectations her mother Queen Juniper put on her, hence the pixiehunt for her.
    • Batters has renounced the Titan as his god and has started a cult dedicated to Mel known as the "Melvins". Tinella Nosa is a member of said cult.
    • Ford and Staggertarious were told to work together to create Artifical Titan's Blood. When Ford escaped the Demon Realm after sabotaging the project, Staggertarious continued working on it and upon testing it on a prototype portal door, it led to his body being destroyed.
    • Cat and Amelia's parents are working to get Amity's second expulsion revoked and are building a case to get Faust removed as Hexside's principal once Bump has fully recovered.
    • Sam Shin is not only a family friend of the Parks, but also Willow's estranged godmother who assists her whenever she loses control of her magic. Like Scandalyn, Sam travels all over the Demon Realm and scarcely visits.
    • Certain flowers not found in the Demon Realm have varying effects on werewolves as they find them extremely attractive. For example, Red Azaleas can invoke partial transformations on werewolves of strong passions and emotions.
    • Frankenstein's Monster is hiding out in Gravity Falls' forest after escaping Purgatory, and Clara befriended him offscreen.
    • With Willow and Amity's lack of surprise and Luz being aware of it, Skara told them about Donna and Nina's past offscreen.
    • Amity did eventually learn about Amber punking her and Luz with the attire for their date at the Socket.
    • According to Amity, Emira used to be a cheerleader.
  • Rule of Three: Gus G. has three cases of being given odd names. Amity calls him "second Gus" as she remembers who each Gatesfield teen is, Willow introduces him as "Augustus" to her extended friend group, and Amelia calls him "Gus-Two"; the last one he accepts.
  • The Runaway: Acorn, who's the princess of the Noble Fir Tribe of Fall pixies, ran away because she was sick of her royal status.
  • Secret-Keeper: Lilith has become one for Cross about his mother and along with her parents, is keeping Odalia out of the public eye by putting her up in their home.
  • Sequel Hook:
    • There's hope for the orphanage should Eda be removed from running it, as Diana and Gladys offer to keep it open themselves and find people to help contribute to it.
    • How long can Cross go before he has to tell Luz that they're cousins?
    • Odalia is now living with Lilith and her parents, and they know they can't let the outside world find out she's there. On top of that, she plans on arranging a meeting between Lilith and Darius & Eberwolf.
    • Gilbert and Sully's talk with Gus P. has them reconsider on telling Willow about her locked-up memory sooner rather than later.
    • If Belos manages to create and use more Artifical Titan's Blood to open the old portal door, what happened to Staggertarious will be small batatas on a Titan-sized scale.
    • Thanks to Lumity and Skarlow, Wendy has learned her mother was a victim of the Blind Eyes and is now in possession of her memory tube.
  • Seven Dirty Words: Acorn begins to list them off just to irk her mother, saying three before her mother cuts her off before she can mention "Country Matters".
  • Ship Tease: Dipper mentions that he's been texting Candy a lot recently and when Luz asks for clarification, he hides his phone before telling her about what the humans did the previous week.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The title is a reference to The Wind in the Willows.
    • Upon arriving at the Masterskull home, Luz knocks the beat of "We Will Rock You" on the door.
    • As Felicia questions what happened to Cluckington, Luz says he's probably with The Colonel.
    • Kiss the Girl is performed by Skarlow with the rest of their friends providing backup vocals in a karaoke session.
    • Acorn channels George Carlin by listing the Seven Dirty Words to get her mother off her back.
    • Gus G. mentions John Lennon while talking with Gus P. and Amelia and when they question who he is, he decides to introduce them to The Beatles.
  • Spit Take: Abigail lets one out when Luz asks Amity if she wants to get married at the end of the chapter.
  • Stronger Than You Look: Donna effortlessly drags Luz and Eda into her house after inviting them for breakfast, and they're both surprised by how strong a grip she has.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Gwendolyn and Dell decide to let Odalia stay in their home since she has nowhere to go and Lilith agrees in spite of Vina's objections.
  • The Un-Reveal: Who is Felicia's father?
  • We Used to Be Friends: Averted. While Ford came to dislike Belos after discovering his plans, he holds no ill will towards Staggertarious and remembers him fondly, even wanting to visit the Boiling Isles once more to see him again. Likewise, Stagger holds Ford in high regard for introducing him to so much in human science among other things.
  • Wham Line:
    • The conversation between Lilith and Cross reveals something the latter doesn't want to inform Luz and Eda about just yet:
Cross: Nothing against you guys, but my family's already been put at enough risk without me being mixed up with your family, their misadventures, and all the attention it brings.
Lilith: I honestly don't blame you, and I understand. Alhough, I do still think that you should have told Eda and Luz that your mother is a Clawthorne.
    • When Amity, Wendy, Vee and the Gatesfieldians are ambushed by pixies, Amity discovers that their queen is Acorn's mother, which means Acorn's a princess!
    • Luz's last line;
Luz: Hey Ams... you wanna get married?
  • You Don't Want to Know: Vee responds with this when Amity questions the deal with double-crossing the gnome supplying the kids with fairy dust and giving a gnome cop half of their payment.
  • You Remind Me of X: Diana is reminded of Beocrow through Luz on account of their jackets. Snope later says she reminds him of Goggles due to her stubborn determination to defeat the Inner Demon once and for all.
