Texas Rangers

     Danny O'Bannon

Danny O'Bannon

Portrayed by: Robert Jayne
Appearances: "Devil's Turf"

The deuteragonist of "Devil's Turf" along with his older brother, Joey— who is North Dallas High School's custodian— and Tommy Landers, and a rookie Texas Ranger. While Walker is on assignment at the high school, he serves as Walker's contact (he as a student while Walker is the teacher). While infiltrating the Devil's Gym, he gets caught and is brutally beaten up by Mick Stanley and his gang and hospitalized.

  • Disney Death: After being brutally beaten up by Mick Stanley and his goons, he ends up hospitalized and in a coma, but he luckily pulls through after Walker and Trivette (with Joey's assistance) arrest Stanley and his goons before they could murder Tommy and Nina.
  • Left for Dead: After he is beaten up by Stanley and his goons after he is caught snooping at the gym, he is brought back to the high school and ends up hospitalized.

     Logan Reno

Logan Reno

Portrayed by: Buck Taylor
Appearances: "War Zone"

One of Walker's former partners during his years as a Texas Ranger and the Designated Victim of "War Zone". The father of Dana and Keith Reno, his wife, Molly, passed away long before the events of the episode, and after Mitch Bolton murders him, Dana becomes Keith's legal guardian.

  • It's Personal: Dana attempts to go after the people who killed him at a bar, but is beaten up until Walker finds her and then scolds her for not doing this sort of thing without backup. Walker knew what Dana was up to after Trivette noticed his printer was on.
  • Like Father, Like Son: With him having been a Texas Ranger all his life, Dana pursues the profession of law enforcement herself on the Texas Highway Patrol and likely aspires to be a Ranger herself. Keith also isn't immune to this, either, having learned a few martial arts skills from him before his death.
  • Promotion to Parent: Dana becomes Keith's legal guardian after he is killed by Mitch Bolton and his gang.
  • Victim of the Week: The plot of "War Zone" has him being murdered in the line of duty by Mitch Bolton and his gang and Walker and Trivette seeking to arrest them.

Highway Patrol

     Freels

Trooper Freels

Portrayed by: Adam Vernier
Appearances: "Unsafe Speed"

A Texas State Trooper who serves as the deuteragonist of "Unsafe Speed" who assists the Rangers in busting up the Raptors' drug trafficking operation.

  • Bulletproof Vest: He wears one when he agrees to pretend he is shot dead by Gage and Sydney during their covert operation in the Raptors in order for them to pass their initiation and gain access to their meth lab. This is Lampshaded by him and Trivette as the latter and Walker come to his aid:
Freels: This bulletproof vest worked, but it sure does hurt. (gets back up after being shot)
Trivette: It hurts a lot more without one.
    Freels: I hear that.
  • Faking the Dead: When Gage and Sydney are about to be initiated into the Raptors, he is asked to assist in the covert operation and fakes his death in order for the two Rangers to pass the initiation. The plan works, because he wore a bulletproof vest. He also lampshades this when Walker and Trivette come to his aid after the ruse.
  • Staged Shooting: Walker, Trivette, Gage and Sydney have him pretend to be shot dead by the latter two Rangers, who are infiltrating the Raptors gang and had to commit a crime serious enough for them to pass their initiation. Good thing he wore a Bulletproof Vest.
  • Taking the Bullet: He is asked to assist the Rangers in their covert operation against the Raptors when Gage and Sydney are about to be initiated. He is asked to pull over the entire gang, and let Gage and Sydney shoot him to make his death look believable enough for them to pass the initiation. Good thing he was wearing a bulletproof vest, because without it, he could have been Killed Off for Real.

     Santiago Perez

Santiago "Santos" Perez

He continues to be on the Highway Patrol since Bobbie Hunt ultimately became Cobb's replacement, but he may have a chance to apply again for another vacancy within the Rangers in the future.

  • Like Father, Like Son: With her father having been a Texas Ranger all his life, she likely aspires to be a Ranger herself. Keith also isn't immune to this, either, having learned a few martial arts skills from Logan before his death.
  • Missing Mom: Molly passed away long before the events of the episode.
  • Promotion to Parent: She becomes Keith's legal guardian after Logan is killed by Mitch Bolton and his gang.

Other Law Enforcement

     Glenn Cooper

Glenn Cooper

Portrayed by: Michael Hagerty
Appearances: "Deadly Situation"

The deuteragonist of "Deadly Situation". A rookie officer for the Sage City, Texas, Police Department and an aspiring Texas Ranger who busted three of his own, later revealed to be four, for participating in a drug trafficking operation. He was set up by the four dirty cops after he turned in the evidence, and they sought to silence him by either arresting or killing him. It is also revealed that he and Walker are distant cousins, because his father, Tom Cooper, a Texas Ranger who died in the line of duty and a close friend of Walker's, was the great-grandson of the legendary Hayes Cooper.

  • Clear My Name: Baker, Moody and Rogers set him up for the theft of 300 kilos of cocaine from the Smokey Cole bust, thanks to their boss, Lt. Shell, tipping off the three about him finding out about it.
  • Clear Their Name: When Cooper is forced to take hostages at D.A. Clark's office after Baker, Moody and Rogers set him up for their crime, it is up to Trivette, Sydney and Gage to find out if he was telling the truth.
  • Destroy the Evidence: He thought he could trust Lt. Shell with the pictures he took of Baker, Moody and Rogers' involvement in the drug trafficking ring run by Chick Winslow at Henners' Barn after the recent arrest of Smokey Cole, but he would later be proven wrong near the end when he tells the Rangers about the copies of the photos he took and the negatives hidden at a library. Lt. Shell likely destroyed the original copies rather than hand them over to internal affairs before planting the stolen drugs in his locker, and then sending Baker, Moody and Rogers after him and Simms, where the latter officer is killed by the three and made to look like a suicide, and then tried to kill District Attorney Clark after they chased him to her office. Quickly subverted, however, when Gage and Sydney beat Baker, Moody and Rogers to the evidence Glenn hid at the library and promptly arrest them, and Rogers, from there, promptly confesses Lt. Shell's involvement in the case. While Trivette, Gage and Sydney arrest Chick Winslow, Lt. Shell goes on to commit suicide by hanging before he could be arrested by Walker and Captain Ryder.
  • Disappeared Dad: Shortly after the hostage situation kicks off, Trivette digs up the information that his father is Tom Cooper, a Texas Ranger who was killed in line of duty and a close friend of Walker's, at which point the two Rangers piece together that he is the great-great-grandson of Hayes Cooper.
  • Heroic Lineage: Getting his start in law enforcement as an officer for the Sage City Police Department, he aspires to become a Texas Ranger himself, and his knack of investigative skills, such as the bust he made against Baker, Moody and Rogers, is putting him on the fast-track to just that. As the hostage situation went into full swing, Walker and Trivette pieced together that he is the descendant of Hayes Cooper. After the bad guys are defeated and Walker and his team return to Dallas, Cooper is expected to be back on duty the next day with a promotion.
Glenn: How did Walker know about Hayes Cooper?
Alex: Everyone needs a hero, and Hayes Cooper has always been Walker's hero.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: After busting Baker, Moody and Rogers at Henners' Barn, perhaps it would've been a good idea for him to turn in the evidence to the nearest Texas Ranger office; had he known in the first place Lt. Shell was the leading dirty cop in Chick Winslow's drug trafficking ring following the bust, he would've never turned in the evidence to him in the first place, leading up to him and Simms being set up for the crime. To be fair, however, he doesn't realize the truth until near the climax, where Gage and Sydney arrest Baker, Moody and Rogers before they could steal and destroy the extra photos he hid at the library.
  • Only a Flesh Wound: When Baker, Moody and Rogers raid his home so they can silence him for uncovering their operation, they kill his partner, Simms, and then District Attorney Clark as they chase him to her office. As the hostage situation goes into full swing, a sniper is employed to kill him, who takes the bullet for one of the hostages after telling her to stay away from the window. Simms was killed and made to look like a suicide, but he and Kristi both survive their injuries.
  • Pursue the Dream Job: He desires to be a Texas Ranger like his father for his knack of investigative skills.
  • Taking the Bullet: One of the hostages in the DA's office gets too close to the window when a SWAT sniper is employed to kill him. He tells one of the hostages to stay away from the window as the sniper prepares to fire. He takes the bullet for the hostage, and survives. He lampshades this after the fact, to which Walker pieces together their relationship:
Glenn: So, that's what it feels like to get shot.
Walker: You're lucky. It's just a flesh wound.
Glenn: No, Ranger Walker. I'll be lucky if I get out of this alive.
Walker: You will. And I believe you. And I think your great-great-grandfather, Hayes Cooper believes you, too.
  • Victim of the Week: He, Officer Simms and Sage County District Attorney Kristi Clark all become this, thanks to Baker, Moody and Rogers (for the latter two; Kristi survived, but Simms didn't make it) and a SWAT sniper (for him, but he survived).

     Captain Ryder

Captain Ryder

Portrayed by: Bruce Weitz
Appearances: "Deadly Situation"

A police captain for the Sage City, Texas, Police Department, therefore one of Glenn Cooper's superiors, who heads up the department's Zero-Tolerance Unit.

  • It's Personal: After realizing the truth that Lieutenant Shell was responsible for stealing the drugs from the Smokey Cole bust and framing Glenn, he decides to deal with him personally. Walker is more than happy to help out, while Trivette, Gage and Sydney are tasked with arresting Chick Winslow.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He can be pretty hard-nosed at times, but he is a reasonable person. He takes the utmost pride in his job and doesn't stand for dirty cops.

Civilians

     Jason Adams

Dr. Jason Adams

Portrayed by: Clarence Gilyard
Appearances: "Paradise Trail"

The past life of James Trivette and a physician.

     Dionne Berry

Dionne Berry

Portrayed by: Dionne Warwick
Appearances: "Faith"

The deuteragonist of "Faith", one of Walker and Alex's close friends and a professional singer who had to quit to raise her granddaughter, Faith Berry, due to the death of her daughter (Faith's mother), which was caused by a drug overdose. Making things difficult for her is the liver disorder Faith was diagnosed with, which needed to be taken care of when Faith started falling ill during the HOPE Center's charity fundraiser, and to make things go From Bad to Worse, a trio of bank robbers stole the ambulance containing the donated liver on surgery day.

  • Like Father, Like Son: When she and Faith sing at the HOPE Center's charity fundraiser, Gage remarks that they sound like professionals; Alex mentions that the former was a professional singer, until she retired to raise Faith since the death of her mother (Dionne's daughter) and nobody having met the father.

     Faith Berry

Faith Berry

Portrayed by: Areeale Davis
Appearances: "Faith"

The titular deuteragonist of "Faith" and the granddaughter of Dionne Berry. Her mother, Dionne's daughter, died of a drug overdose when she was just being born, and since nobody met the father, she has been living with her grandmother since then. She was also diagnosed with a genetic liver disorder during that timespan, and it is during the HOPE Center's charity fundraiser, her current liver begins to act up and fail, at which point she needed a donor to stay alive. What's worse, on surgery day, a trio of bank robbers steal the ambulance containing the liver and kidnap one of the paramedics after killing the other, at which point the Rangers are left with very little time to catch the robbers and recover the liver.

  • Billy Needs an Organ: The premise of the episode has her suffering from a life-threatening genetic liver disorder and is in need of a life-saving transplant. Two weeks after her current liver starts to give out, a donor is finally found.
  • Disappeared Dad: Nobody met her father, and due to the death of her mother, she has been living with Dionne.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Played straight and invoked with her at death's door due to her liver giving out. Shortly after the ambulance containing the donated liver is stolen, her current liver starts failing rapidly as doctors expected and she begins to feel the symptoms from fluids in her lungs to unconsciousness to a profuse nosebleed. Dionne does not want her to die. Quickly subverted, however, because Walker and Trivette found the robbers' hideout and recovered the liver.
  • Like Father, Like Son: When she and Dionne sing at the HOPE Center's charity fundraiser, Gage remarks that they sound like professionals; Alex mentions that Dionne was a professional singer, until she retired to raise her since the death of her mother (Dionne's daughter) and nobody having met the father.
  • MacGuffin: The donated liver. It once belonged to a young Fort Worth girl named Sherry Jones, who was killed by being hit by a car, and when her parents heard about the Berrys' plight, they wanted to donate their deceased daughter's organ. After robbing a bank, the Burner Brothers and Randy hit a truck that happens to be in the path of the ambulance containing the liver, causing Toby, who was driving, to break his arm. The robbers then steal the ambulance after killing one paramedic and taking the other hostage, needing him to tend to Toby's injury. The robbers, during this time, have no knowledge of or any particular interest in the organ. After Walker recovers the liver in time for the successful operation, he was able to track down the parents and bring them to the HOPE Center so she can thank them.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother, Dionne's daughter, passed away of a drug overdose when she was a little baby, and since nobody met her father, she has since been living with Dionne.

The deuteragonist of "Last Hope" and an abused pre-teen who becomes the seventh camper to join his troublemaking schoolmates at the Ranger Teen Camp.

  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Of the three boys at the Ranger Teen Camp, he is the most notable who deserves this award after helping his classmates and Trivette take out a gang of drug dealers who attacked the camp. Needless to say, it earned him praise from his classmates.
  • Cut Himself Shaving: He has to contend with his mother's abusive live-in boyfriend on a regular basis. It's not until after taking out the drug dealers does he muster up the courage to tell Walker and Trivette about him, to which they finally arrest him.

     Jo Elson

Jo Elson

Portrayed by: Lea Moreno
Appearances: "Rainbow's End"

The deuteragonist of "Rainbow's End" and proud owner of the titular racehorse along with her father, Max, and a budding equestrian.

  • Despair Event Horizon: Occurs twice:
    • The first time, when Max is jumped by Crown's men while she is out checking on Rainbow's End at the track, and then returns home to find him unconscious. Being very protective of her father, she is, at first, considering quitting the race, but Max tells her when his bull-riding injury left him handicapped, Walker told him to never give up, and they tell her the same thing.
    • The second time after the race, the poison that Crown and his men spiked in Rainbow's food takes full effect and he appears to be near-death, leaving her in tears and begging him not to die. After Walker arrests Barber for poisoning the horse's food (who would go on to confess his involvement in Rainbow's and Max's attempted murders, as well as the Calhoun murders), and later, Crown, Rainbow luckily survives.
  • Extremely Protective Child: She is this to Max. It starts when she and Walker confront Crown and his men one afternoon at the track before they could beat him up, then finds him lying unconscious in the stable when she comes home from the track after Crown's men jumped him. This nearly drives her to quit the race, but Max and Walker tell her not to. Also, Max only suffers a black eye and a broken arm.
  • Missing Mom: It is unknown of what happened to her mother.

     Max Elson

Max Elson

Portrayed by: John Beck

The deuteragonist of "Rainbow's End" along with his daughter, Jo, a close friend of Walker's and the proud owner of the titular racehorse.

  • Handicapped Badass: He is a one-time former bull-riding champion, which explains why he is now confined to a wheelchair and he hopes he'll be able to walk again someday. He also has some hardships to face due to his handicap, and it's the possibility of having his ranch foreclosed if he doesn't make enough money; the only way he can make enough cash is for Rainbow's End to win the Texas Derby, and Wes Calhoun's widow, Sally Calhoun, agrees to be their $50,000 sponsor. He was also able to put up quite a fight when Crown's men jumped him while Jo was out, having only suffered a black eye and a broken arm. He demanded to be discharged from the hospital in time to watch his daughter's match race with Crown's horse.

     Matt Escobar

Matt "The Avenging Angel" Escobar

Portrayed by: Gary Kasper
Appearances: "The Avenging Angel"

  • Disappeared Dad: He becomes this to his unborn baby.
  • Retired Badass: Double subverted. He is a close friend of Trivette's when they played on the Dallas Cowboys and won championship games, and now, as a professional wrestler under the name "The Avenging Angel", he is fighting for the championship title that evening after Walker and Trivette busted a quartet of bank robbers.
  • Someone to Remember Him By: He was married to a woman named Carmen, and as a result of his murder, his unborn baby has no father.
  • Title Drop: Several times, as the episode is centered on catching the people responsible for his murder.
  • Victim of the Week: The villain of the episode, Frank Scanlon, who sought to buy off and extort Galactic Wrestling, kills him to set an example when people refuse his offers. One of his mooks cut his cable, causing him to drop into the ring and break his neck.

     Jesse Estrella

Jesse Estrella

Portrayed by: Bernie Guzman
Appearances: "Lost Boys"

The deuteragonist of "Lost Boys", Carlos Sandoval's nephew and the son of Theresa Estrella who takes the fall for the murder of Dallas Police detective William Sadler after the gun used in the killing was found in his dresser drawer, thanks to his best friend, Bobby, putting it there after its original owner left it in his care to avoid being caught.

  • Disappeared Dad: It is unknown of what happened to his father.
  • Fall Guy: He ends up taking the rap for the murder of Dallas Police detective Bill Sadler after his best friend, Bobby, hides the gun belonging to the leader of the gang, Johnny Blade, in his dresser drawer. When Blade demands that Jesse return his gun and not tell anyone what happened, or else he will kill his mother, the situation worsens due to Carlos and Theresa finding the gun first.
  • Sadistic Choice: After Bobby hides Johnny Blade's gun in his dresser, Johnny demands he return his gun or he kills Theresa if he told the truth. He decides to comply and return the gun, but Theresa and Carlos found it first, and the former choice escalates to him confessing to a murder he didn't commit, as well as Theresa being kidnapped by Johnny and his gang. In short, Blade was going to kill him and Theresa anyway, with him being murdered by the rest of the gang in juvey in case he ever changed his mind and Theresa being killed by Blade himself and make it look like a suicide, which is quickly stopped by Walker, Trivette and Carlos after Bobby confesses what really happened.

     Theresa Estrella

Theresa Estrella

Portrayed by: Ada Maris
Appearances: "Lost Boys"

Carlos Sandoval's sister and the mother of Jesse Estrella.

  • Bound and Gagged: Theresa is kidnapped by Johnny Blade and his gang after Jesse ends up in juvey. The first thing Jesse sees when he and Patterson meet for the first time is a photo of this. She is later freed by Walker, Trivette, Carlos and Ochoa when they raid the arcade and arrest Blade after Bobby comes forward and confesses his involvement.
  • Damsel in Distress: After Jesse takes the rap for killing Dallas Police detective Bill Sadler, she is kidnapped by Johnny Blade and his gang.
  • Sadistic Choice: After Bobby hides Johnny Blade's gun in Jesse's dresser, Johnny demands he return his gun or he kills her if he told the truth. Jesse decides to comply and return the gun, but she and Carlos found it first, and the former choice for Jesse escalates to him confessing to a murder he didn't commit, as well as her being kidnapped by Johnny and his gang. In short, Blade was going to kill her and Jesse anyway, with her being murdered by Blade himself and made to look like a suicide, while Jesse is murdered by the rest of the gang in juvey in case he ever changed his mind, which is quickly stopped by Walker, Trivette and Carlos after Bobby confesses what really happened.

     Julie Gage

Julie Gage

Portrayed by: Rebecca Staab
Appearances: "Tall Cotton"

The older sister of Ranger Francis Gage and a freelance news reporter.

  • Big Brother Instinct: Played straight and inverted, since siblings must look out for each other after their parents were killed in a car accident due to icy roads while on their way home from a church social during the Christmas season:
    • She plays it straight after their parents' deaths. One of their aunts wanted to take them both in, but could only afford one sibling. Gage suggested that Julie go, but she said no, saying they must stick together no matter what. As such, they ended up being sent to a group home for foster children; it wasn't a pleasant experience for both of them, though Julie got to bear most of the brunt of it.
    • Inverted with her younger brother, a Texas Ranger, during the premise of the episode when he and Sydney have to rescue her when she is kidnapped.
  • Damsel in Distress: She becomes this when the sleazy owner of the titular nightclub, BJ Ronson, finds out she was trying to expose his crooked doings.
  • Disappeared Dad: She and Gage lost their parents due to a car accident. She was 10 years old and he was 8.
  • Missing Mom: She and Gage lost their parents due to a car accident. She was 10 years old and he was 8.

  • Victim of the Week: She was shot and killed by Vince Pike when she and Walker were in the middle of a romantic rendezvous at Lake Santos.

     Connie Gibson

Connie Gibson

Portrayed by: Lyn Montgomery
Appearances: "Legends"

The forewoman of the Samuel E. Viscardi trial and the first victim of Michael Viscardi's Roaring Rampage of Revenge. As soon as the trial ended with Sammy Viscardi being convicted, Walker, while visiting the courthouse to congratulate Alex for the convictions, sees him nod a message to Michael, and has no clue what it means, until he and Trivette are the first Rangers at the scene of the crime when she turns up dead. Forensics determined that her death was not an accident when they find car headlight glass and chipped auto paint on the rail she was pushed over. As soon as Gage and Sydney are sent to find the car used in her murder, which was reported stolen, he apprises Alex of the situation, concluding that the secret message Sammy got across to his son was that he avenge him for his convictions and arranges protection for everyone involved in the trial.

  • Big "NO!": At the beginning of the episode after the trial when she is exiting the mall after spending the last four hours shopping and just before she could get into her car, she lets this out as another car charges at her and pushes her off the roof of the parking garage, resulting in her instantaneous death.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: The car used in her murder, a brand-new cobalt blue Buick LeSabre, was reported stolen, and Gage and Sydney's search for it takes them to the junkyard of Hugo Bianco, which is the last stop on their list. They are successful at finding the LeSabre's grill, and Hugo tries to cover up his crimes to no avail, leading to him and his many employees being arrested.
  • The Precarious Ledge: After a shopping trip at the mall and just before she could get in her car, another car comes zooming after her and pushes her off the roof of the parking garage. Forensics find car headlight glass and chipped auto paint on the rail she went over, concluding it was not an accident.
  • Surprise Car Crash: This happens to her just before she could get in her car and go home after four hours of shopping. After Gage and Sydney arrest Hugo, the junkyard owner, he cooperates and tells them that the suspect of her killing was a car thief by the name of Johnny Zoom (real name Johnny Zubliski), but Scaggs kills him before he could be arrested. After Zubliski's death, Gage and Sydney, however, find photos of his crime in his apartment, which were taken and given to him by Scaggs.

Portrayed by: Chauncey Leopardi

  • Hastily Hidden MacGuffin: Johnny's gun, which was used for Dallas Detective Bill Sadler's murder. When Sadler catches him outside the warehouse, he was willing to go peacefully, but Blade certainly wasn't, having shot Sadler to death. After killing Sadler, Blade left the gun in his hands, and with police searching for the weapon, he was forced to go on the run and hide it in Jesse's dresser drawer. When Blade demands that Jesse return his gun and keep silent of what happened, or else he will kill his mother, it quickly goes from bad to worse when Carlos and Theresa find the gun first, leading up to Jesse taking the blame for Sadler's murder.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After his actions led to his best friend getting blamed for a murder he didn't commit, he cooperates with the Rangers to take down Johnny Blade and Lawrence Patterson and save Theresa after she is kidnapped. At the end of the episode, he and Jesse are both sentenced to 300 hours of community service at the HOPE Center.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When Jesse is taken into custody, he is guilt-ridden of having sold out his best friend after hiding the gun used in Sadler's murder in his dresser drawer, and afterwards, Theresa and Carlos found it, leading up to Jesse taking the rap for a crime he didn't commit. After Jesse's forceful confession at the hands of the Amoral Attorney Lawrence Patterson upon seeing a photo of his mother kidnapped, he finally comes forward and confesses, at which point Jesse is released and Walker, Trivette, Ochoa and Carlos proceed to raid the arcade and arrest Blade and rescue Theresa.

  • Disney Death: When Walker and Trivette show up to save him and Tommy from Coburn, Tommy employs one of the karate skills he learned from Walker to escape, and while running, he jumps in front of Tommy and takes Coburn's bullet, while Walker and Trivette return fire, killing Coburn. • Heroic Sacrifice: Joe jumps in front of the bullet fired by Coburn to protect Tommy, at which point Walker and Trivette return fire. Joe luckily survives his injuries.
  • Taking the Bullet: Joe saves Tommy from being shot by Coburn and survives his injury.

     Ricardo Lopez

Ricardo Lopez

Portrayed by: Billy Gallo
Appearances: "Test of Faith"

An eighth-grade teacher at Lemmon Avenue Middle School and a former karate student of Walker's who is killed by gang members while leaving work one afternoon, prompting Walker to seek out the people who did it, all the while subbing for him.

  • Badass Teacher: Pretty self-explanatory as a former "Kick Drugs" student, especially how easily he was able to trounce Loco when he entered his classroom and harassed his students. He would also be more than happy to enroll Malcolm in Trent's karate school after he was impressed of how he stood up to Loco.
  • Cool Teacher: He is this to a T, especially having learned a thing or two from Walker during his time in "Kick Drugs". After being murdered by Loco, Walker would soon have to fulfill this role for him as he previously did in Season 5's "Devil's Turf".
  • Victim of the Week: He is shot and killed by Loco Morales while he is about to leave work. One of his students, Malcolm, witnesses the shooting, but is too scared to report it.

     Malcolm

Malcolm

Portrayed by: Jonathan Hernandez
Appearances: "Test of Faith"

An eighth-grader at Lemmon Avenue Middle School and the deuteragonist of "Test of Faith" who witnesses the shooting death of his teacher, Ricardo Lopez, by Loco Morales of the Diablos gang, but is too scared to report this that he purchases a gun out of fear of retaliation from the gang, only for him to accidentally shoot his friend, Faith, with it while trying to stop a would-be Diablos prospect from doing so. He was so impressed with how Ricardo easily trounced Loco before his brutal murder that he wanted to be enrolled in Trent's karate school.

  • An Aesop: The lesson he learned after he comes forward and tells Walker what happened is that carrying a gun is the problem, not the answer.
  • Chekhov's Gun: No pun intended in this case. The gun he illegally purchased out of fear of retaliation from the Diablos gang after witnessing Loco kill Ricardo. He accidentally shoots Faith with it while trying to stop Carlos from doing so as part of his initiation into the gang. While Loco thinks Carlos was responsible, he becomes guilt-ridden and tells Walker what really happened.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He was responsible for shooting Faith, but by accident, when he tried to stop Carlos from shooting her as part of his initiation into the Diablos Gang, to which Loco thinks Carlos really did do it and gives him praise for it. When he saw Carlos draw his gun, he dug into his backpack trying desperately to get his gun and stop him, but he became so nervous, he dropped the backpack, causing the gun to fire. Luckily, the bullet only hits Faith's spinal column and she has to undergo rehabilitation in order to walk again. In addition, after tearfully coming forward and telling Walker what really happened, tipping him off to Ricardo's killer in the process, he gets community service, but doesn't face any serious punishment.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: After witnessing Loco kill Ricardo, he should have told the police, but he was way too scared to do so that he ended up buying a gun and started carrying it in his backpack, and later accidentally shot Faith while trying to stop Carlos from doing so as part of his initiation into the gang.
  • Tears of Remorse: He displays this after coming forward and telling Walker what happened.

  • Let's Get Dangerous!: After it is revealed his uncle Earl was the true perpetrator, needless to say, he is not at all happy he framed him!
  • Victim of the Week: He almost became this when he was framed for Wilma Casey's murder and nearly lynched.

Joey O'Bannon

Portrayed by: Eric Bruskotter
Appearances: "Devil's Turf"

The deuteragonist of "Devil's Turf" along with his younger brother, Danny (a rookie Texas Ranger undercover as a student while Walker is posing as the teacher), and Tommy Landers and the brawny janitor of North Dallas High School.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's a caring and nurturing person, but don't mess with his younger brother and/or his students, because you will eventually regret it!
  • Big Brother Instinct: He cares about Danny deeply, especially when he finds him taken back to North Dallas High by Stanley and his goons after being brutally beaten up while on assignment.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: He's very nurturing, cares about his brother and their pet hamster and can be somewhat of a ditz, but don't ever hurt his brother, his students or law enforcement or you will be in for it! This is demonstrated during the final fight when Walker and Trivette are alerted by Tommy's mother that he and Nina are still at the school and Stanley and his goons plan to kill them both, and when one of Stanley's goons has Trivette in a chokehold and tries to strangle him, he comes bursting in to subdue the goon with a chokehold of his own, giving Trivette an opening to sock him into submission.

     Cara Parkins

Cara Parkins

Portrayed by: Katie Wright
Appearances: "Child of Hope"

The wife of Steven Parkins. After Steve chickens out on a home invasion gone wrong, his own accomplices, led by Jake Horbart, followed him to their trailer and killed him; she witnessed his murder and was forced to run, with Horbart and his gang seeking to find and kill her, too, and was forced to leave their son, Maxnote  in Walker and Alex's care.

  • Disappeared Dad: Downplayed, as her parents are still alive and live in Fort Worth, and at the end of the episode after Walker kills Horbart and Lopez after they followed her to his house, he and Alex had tracked them down so they can help her raise her baby.
  • Missing Mom: Downplayed, as her parents are still alive and live in Fort Worth, and at the end of the episode after Walker kills Horbart and Lopez after they followed her to his house, he and Alex had tracked them down so they can help her raise her baby.
  • Trashy Trailer Home: She, Steve and Max live in one, but are forced to vacate it after the Winfield home invasion goes sour. It's already too late for Steve, as Horbart and his gang have killed him, and now she and Max are next on his list! When an anonymous tip leads Walker and Trivette to a woman matching her description at that trailer park, they investigate and find Steve's body, plus a picture of her, Steve and Max, upon which they alert the coroner and piece together the baby and the burglary.
  • Victim of the Week: She and Max almost ended up becoming this when Jake Horbart sought to kill them.

     Steve Parkins

Steven "Steve" Parkins

Portrayed by: Robert Floyd
Appearances: "Child of Hope"

A 19-year-old father who made a lot of bad decisions in life, which stems from shoplifting to befriending a gang of burglars during their time in lockup. He was convicted twice for shoplifting, and the second time he committed such deed, he received six months in prison, where he ends up meeting Jake Horbart and his gang and then helps him commit a home invasion after they're all released. Steve didn't want any part of it, serving as the getaway driver and lookout, but panics and flees the scene when the homeowners return, upon which after killing the homeowners, Horbart and his gang steal their Mercedes, follow Steve to his trailer and kill him. His wife, Cara, witnessed the murder and was forced to run, with Horbart and his gang seeking to find and kill her, too, and was forced to leave their son, Maxnote  in Walker and Alex's care.

  • Disappeared Dad: Played straight and justified, having lost both of his parents so very young, and ending up making a lot of bad choices in his life, from shoplifting to becoming a teenage father to ultimately befriending a gang of burglars and serving as their lookout and getaway driver during one of their heists, only to chicken out at the last minute and eventually be killed by his own accomplices.
  • Just Got Out of Jail: He served a six-month stint for shoplifting. It was the second time he did so, and the judge decided to set an example by not going easy on him. He befriended Jake Horbart and his gang during his stint, and then serves as their lookout and getaway driver when they commit a home invasion upon their release.
  • Missing Mom: Played straight, having lost both his parents so very young.
  • Cara, Steve and Max live in one, but are forced to vacate it after the Winfield home invasion goes sour. It's already too late for Steve, as Horbart and his gang have killed him, and now Cara and Max are next on his list!
  • Trashy Trailer Home: He, Cara and Max live in one, but are forced to vacate it after the Winfield home invasion goes sour. It's already too late for him, as Horbart and his gang have killed him, and now Cara and Max are next on his list! When an anonymous tip leads Walker and Trivette to a woman matching Cara's description at that trailer park, they investigate and find his body, plus a picture of him, Cara and Max, upon which they alert the coroner and piece together the baby and the burglary.
  • Victim of the Week: After he chickens out on Horbart and his gang and flees the Winfields' home, they steal their Mercedes after killing them and follow him to his trailer, where they eventually kill him, too.

     Lara Pope

Lara Pope

Portrayed by: Sarah Rafferty
Appearances: "Desperate Measures"

The ex-wife of Garrett Pope and mother of Griffin Pope and the deuteragonist of "Desperate Measures". She was sentenced to life in prison for murdering Garrett's business partner after having an affair with him, but there was no affair, because Garrett set her up to cover up his illicit business practices the Feds were investigating. After she escapes from a prison bus along with her cellmate, Hitch Harrelson, thanks to the boyfriends of two other escapees ambushing it, she goes on the run to try to clear her name, asking her uncle Walt for assistance and being lent his pickup truck. While trying to stay inconspicuous, she and Harrelson unknowingly give Gage a ride back to Dallas after his motorcycle breaks down. However, after they are stopped for speeding by a State Trooper, the truth behind the two women is eventually revealed when Harrelson decides to kill both her and Gage. While Gage apprehends Harrelson, Lara gets away in the pickup and reunites with Griffin, only for them to be kidnapped by Garrett's men.

  • Amoral Attorney: Her defense attorney was on Garrett's payroll and testified against her to cover up his crimes and didn't even file for an appeal; it was a slam dunk for her. Alex notes he should've been disbarred, since she'd be out of a job if she prosecuted a case like that lawyer defended hers. Despite getting no consequences for this, the lawyer passes away in a car accident. However, at the end of the episode, when the Rangers track her to Garrett's mansion and arrest him and his men, she would be granted a retrial. The retrial was going to take a while, because until then, she was released on a personal recognizance bond, but due to her lawyer's misconduct and the new evidence that was gathered, she's almost certain to get a full dismissal.
  • Chained Heat: What happens to her and Hitch Harrelson at the beginning of the episode after two other escapees are freed after their boyfriends ambush the bus. The two women turn to Lara's uncle Walt for help to get the chains removed.
  • Clear My Name: Garrett frames her for killing his business partner to cover up his illicit business practices and she seeks to get her record expunged.
  • Cool Uncle: It is unknown of what happened to her parents, having been raised by her uncle, Walt, who is a taxidermist. Walt knew from the very beginning his niece was innocent of the murder committed by Garrett and how she wants to be reunited with her son, Griffin, that he lends her his pickup truck to find him, even having taught her how to drive in it. He also gives the women regular clothes and hair dye when they take off their inmate uniforms so they can stay inconspicuous. When the news breaks of her escape, Garrett and his men murder Walt, and when DPS finds his body a half an hour later, Walker and Sydney believe neither she nor Harrelson could've done it, but they put an APB out for his pickup when it turns up missing. DPS eventually finds the truck at Griffin's school, where she and Griffin were kidnapped by Garrett's men, at which point she left it behind. After Walker, Trivette, Sydney and Gage track Lara to Garrett's mansion and arrest him, to which she is granted a retrial, one of his goons, Victor, testifies against him for killing Walt.
  • Dye or Die: After escaping the prison bus, she and Harrelson decide to have their hair dyed to avoid being recognized; she goes from being a blonde to a redhead, while Harrelson goes from an evil redhead to brunette. It was enough to fool Gage, as well as a State Trooper who stopped them for speeding, until she told him the truth when Harrelson decided to kill them both. While it was enough to fool the authorities, it wasn't enough to fool Garrett and his goons when she reunites with Griffin at his school (leaving Walt's pickup behind) after Gage apprehends Harrelson.
  • Fiery Redhead: Her natural hair color is blonde, but when she and Harrelson dye their hair to avoid being recognized after they escape the bus, she becomes this. Harrelson, however, started off as one herself before going brunette.
  • Frame-Up: She seeks to exonerate herself of a murder her ex committed.
  • Girl of the Week: To Gage after she kisses him as thanks for helping her.
  • Lazy Alias: When she and Harrelson need aliases so they don't reveal their real names, she picks the name "Marcia Collins" when they give Gage a ride back to Dallas.
  • Missing Mom: While she has this along with a Disappeared Dad, she is also this to her son, Griffin, since she was framed for a crime committed by Garrett to cover up his illicit business practices.
  • Victim of the Week: Her uncle Walt becomes this when Garrett and his men visit his apartment demanding to know where she is, and then beat him to death. She luckily avoids becoming this after Walker, Trivette, Gage and Sydney arrest Garrett.

     Heather Preston

Heather Preston

Portrayed by: Mercedes McNab
Appearances: "6 Hours"

A wealthy 16½-year-old girl who was one of the best volunteers for the HOPE Center bound for Cornell University in the fall. She was kidnapped by her traitorous bodyguard, McNeely and almost murdered on national television.

  • Brick Joke: Her nickname for McNeely, McShadow.
  • Damsel in Distress: Pretty self-explanatory when you're strapped into an old broken electric chair placed in front of a mechanized shotgun set to go off in six hours!
  • Face Death with Dignity: After spending the last six hours praying and screaming for help, she decides to accept her fate, allowing McNeely to flee Dallas. Quickly subverted, however, when Walker shows up and fights McNeely, ultimately killing him with his own murder weapon.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother passed away long before the events of the episode, likely when she was in her early teens or preteens. The last conversation she and her father had when they were leaving for the banquet that morning was an argument, and after McNeely kidnaps her, to which the Rangers are tasked with stopping his murder plot, he doesn't want it to be his last conversation with her.
  • murder.com: HeatherCam2001.com, which covers her painful ordeal, and McNeely's eventual defeat when Walker stops his scheme. According to news reporters Angela Kane and Kelly Santos, it was the first televised kidnapping, and attempted murder, in history.
  • Race Against the Clock: The title of the episode in which she is prominent speaks for itself: if the Rangers don't find her, she's dead!
  • Spoiled Brat: As implied by Tim and McNeely through the years she was growing up. Then again, many can expect that from well-off teenagers, and extremely common in most father and daughter relationships.
  • Tears of Fear: Make no mistake about it: all through the episode when she awaits her painful end!

     Tim Preston

Timothy Preston

Portrayed by: Daniel Hugh Kelly
Appearances: "6 Hours"

The father of Heather Preston and one of the richest men in Dallas and the deuteragonist of "6 Hours".

  • Manly Tears: When Heather is kidnapped by McNeely and about to be murdered, he exhibits this as he faces the prospect of losing his only child. He already lost his wife several years earlier, and the last conversation he and Heather had was an argument that morning, and he doesn't want that to be their last conversation.

  • Damsel in Distress: After Walker and Trivette arrest Harley for cutting Matt's cable and sending a gang of thugs after Flash (only for them to be arrested by Gage and Sydney), she decides to visit Flash at the hospital and said she'd catch a cab back. She almost becomes this when Cutter is sent by Scanlon to kidnap and kill her, but Gage and Sydney arrive in the nick of time, arrest Cutter and save her.

  • Retired Badass: Played straight. He is a retired wrestler who is now the proud owner of Galactic Wrestling.

     Sally

Sally

Portrayed by: Andrea Fay Friedman
Appearances: "Special Witness"

A Special Olympian with Downs Syndrome who serves as the deuteragonist of "Special Witness". While Trent is escorting her to running practice, he is stabbed by federally-wanted assassin Donovan Riggs, who was hired by Morris Foley to prevent him from testifying in court against him. She was the only witness to the attack and assists the Rangers and Carlos in catching Trent's attacker, but at the same time, she had to be protected before Foley and Riggs could murder her, too.

  • Disappeared Dad: Her father hung in there for a while for the first few years of her life, and is rumored to have walked out on his family after the fact.
  • Jury and Witness Tampering: Morris Foley hired Donovan Riggs to assassinate or incapacitate Trent to keep him from testifying in court against him, and because he is the only witness, Alex has no case to build if he cannot testify. After Foley learns that sketches of Riggs are posted all over the Dallas area because Sally identified him, he orders Riggs to kill her, though not before he kills Gloria Doran, the sketch artist, first.
  • Leave No Witnesses: Having Trent hospitalized apparently wasn't enough since Foley learned a person with special needs was able to identify his attacker, and Riggs is sent to kill her after she managed to identify him as Trent's attacker, though not before he kills Gloria Doran, the sketch artist, first. Cue an Oh, Crap! from Walker and Trivette when they learn that Sally is going to be killed next after they find Gloria's body stuffed in the trunk of her car! Luckily, Walker stopped him Just in Time.
  • Parental Abandonment: Due to her having Downs Syndrome, it is likely her father walked out on his family, realizing he wasn't able to handle it anymore.

     Boyd Scranton

Boyd Scranton

Portrayed by: Andrew Rothenburg
Appearances: "Unsafe Speed"

An illegally-licensed trucker who got high on crystal meth manufactured by the Raptors Biker Gang, and ended up killing a family of three by colliding with their minivan before dying in the hospital. He wasn't qualified to get a trucker license due to his long history of traffic infractions and minor drug convictions, and his death is what triggers two investigations by Walker and his team: the meth lab operated by the bikers and a corrupt Driver License Division employee based at a DPS office in Colby illegally issuing commercial licenses.

  • Asshole Victim: He dies in the hospital after colliding with a family's minivan, causing it and his big rig to go up in flames.
  • His Name Is...: Subverted when Walker and Trivette interrogate him at the hospital as to where he got his meth from after Troopers found it in his rig. Before he flatlines, he tells Walker Deke Trumbull was the supplier.
  • Karmic Death: Due to his disqualification to drive a tractor trailer, he ends up dying in a hospital bed after killing a family.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: While being interrogated in his hospital bed by Walker and Trivette, he was quite remorseful for killing the family after colliding with their minivan.
