The Mascots

    Monokuma
Played By: Greeenhand (Season 1), Bag Of Groceries (Seasons 2 and 3)
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Still does not approve of anyone abusing actual children in his name, continuing the precedent from UDG. He also greatly dislikes people hijacking his game.

    Monomi
Played By: SEGA Sister
  • Fallen Hero: Ends up going full evil in between seasons one and two, her faith in humanity ruined. After the reveal of the mastermind, how much was truly her remains uncertain.

Season 1

    Xavier (MAJOR SPOILERS)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_6743_3.jpeg
Xavier Canterbury: Ultimate Knight
Played By: Travis GA
  • Black Knight: His ultimate fate until he erased his own memory.
  • Death of Personality: What presumably happens to him after he erased his own memory, unable to bear the guilt of Richie’s death.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: The most chivalrous man in the group. Slowly gets corrupted as they stay longer and longer.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: Goes down a dark path after Bonnie dies.
  • Opposites Attract: Falls for the rule breaking pirate. Then she dies, and he can’t recover.
  • The Hero: Becomes more and more of a deconstruction of this trope as the series goes on.

    Circe
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_6729_7.jpeg
Circe Stephens: Ultimate Witch
Played By: Castamelody
  • Half-Sibling Angst: Never knew her half brother, Byakuya.
  • Family of Choice: Grows very close with Charlotte, and they end up officially becoming family after the escape.
  • Like Parent, Unlike Child: Is very different from her parents with her openly kind nature and her mystical powers. Especially compared to the rest of her father’s children.
  • Unexpectedly Real Magic: Nobody actually believed she was magic. Then she did magic. They believed then.

    Richie (MAJOR SPOILERS)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_6713.jpeg
Richie Barker: Ultimate Percussionist
Played By: Bag Of Groceries

    Wysteria
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_6754_7.jpeg
Wysteria Zoëga-Wynn: Ultimate Coroner
Played By: Avalaise
  • Byronic Hero: A rare female example, but she is a very cold, logical individual who isn't fully phased by death up until Demi kicks the bucket. She's also a lot more antisocial.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Takes the longest to warm up to the other protagonists, but she is able to be cooperative in a lot of situations. She even wished to spare Richie despite her rather cold personality.
  • Good Counterpart: Downplayed Trope, but she is very similar to Celestia Ludenberg of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc in that she's a very classy, European-themed woman dressed in gothic attire. Unlike Celeste, she isn't outwardly wanting the deaths of others, but is just as dismissive initially.
  • Goth: Is very much this, having only really befriended fellow loner Friedrich and a fellow person who was interested in the occult, Demi.
  • The Coroner: Quite literally this, as she comes from a family of Coroners in Europe. Acts as the one who does the extra autopsies, similar to Mikan Tsumiki in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair.

    Torrance
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2948.jpeg
Torrance Campbell: Ultimate Cheerleader
Played By: SEGA Sister

    Grace
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_2951.jpeg
Grace Martinez: Ultimate Pageant Queen
Played By: SEGA Sister
  • Lipstick Lesbian: A literal Pageant Queen, who’s romantic sights become set on the cheerleader.

Season 2

    Ai (MAJOR SPOILERS)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ai_fukawa_9.jpg
Ai Wakaranai: Ultimate Mimic
Click here to see her appearance post Chapter 3.
Played By: Alyssaromantic

    Fumika
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/401554ad_8f23_4be1_b4a6_f57251e1f396.jpeg
Fumika Forrester: Ultimate Shrine Maiden
Played By: Castamelody
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Due to the IRL issues her player faced throughout the later half of the season, her prominence ended up dropping dramatically post Chapter 3.

    Lewis
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3b7718a1_ba9b_4359_8ad6_d665de85d11a.jpeg
Lewis C. Crockett: Ultimate Adventurer
Played By: Shadow DJ
  • The Ace: Is seen as this by the other players, especially given he was one of the most skilled athletically and socially, as well as being the one who had masterminded his own get back moment against Monokuma and Monomi.
  • Adventurer Outfit: Wears a rather modern take on this old concept, given he tends to wear short-sleeved practical gear.
  • Bold Explorer: Lewis' talent is the Ultimate Adventurer, similar to Rantaro Amami in the canon. However unlike Rantaro, he is built a lot more noticeably than him, being the third most muscular in the cast.
  • Crazy-Prepared: A bit of a Properly Paranoid type when it comes to things, as he feels he needs to be prepared for any needed situation. His own greatest fear is actually being unprepared.
  • Demolitions Expert: Is fairly skilled with dismantling things, and proved this when when he decided to rig up the parade floats with a make-shift bomb made of fireworks.
  • Emergency Weapon: As expected of a Properly Paranoid explorer, he always carries a switchblade with him for a multi-use tool. Even freaked out when it went missing.
  • String Theory: Secretly had a corkboard in his room, made up with things with fallen blackened and victims as well as his own ideas. Trying to figure out what the Mastermind was doing.
  • The Hero: Said to be this IRL by the other players and the Dungeon Masters, as he is played as the more outwardly good.
  • Token Good Teammate: Of the surviving characters in the group given Fumika is pretty withdrawn, Ai has a lot of violent tendencies and Wolfgang very much enjoys stirring up the pot. Lewis meanwhile is the one who genuinely wishes to take on the Mastermind the most.

    Wolfgang
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_4323.jpeg
Wolfgang Weissenberg: Ultimate Violinist
Played By: Avalaise
  • Anti-Hero: What he develops into after falling for Danica.
  • Artists Are Attractive: Is one of the more classically attractive male characters as shown in his art. And is also one of the ones with a confirmed end-game ship.
  • Card-Carrying Jerkass: He intentionally tries to be mean to everyone he can. It doesn't always succeed.
  • Defrosting Ice King: After he tries and fails to mess with Danica, he ends up falling for her. It's one of the main reasons his walls finally begin to break in the later chapters.
  • Elegant Classical Musician: Is dressed in a very fancy suit, wears a masquerade mask and is a trained violinist.

    Felix (MAJOR SPOILERS)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_8136.jpeg
Felix Bishop: Ultimate Tailor
Played By: Bag Of Groceries
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Technically not a main character, but definitely this in comparison to Richie and his actions.
  • Despair Event Horizon: It’s never directly stated what made him what he is, but it’s implied to be related to Audrey’s death.
  • Hope Is Scary: Felix has a hard time forgiving himself for what he did, and is implied to be suicidal.
  • Kick the Morality Pet: His attempt to kill Ai. He quickly has second thoughts.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Felix flees upon waking up, regretful, afraid of himself, and fully expecting Ai to kill him. It’s also heavily implied he hallucinates blood on his hands.
  • Redemption Equals Life: Despite everything, Felix lives, and ends up getting help.
  • Tragic Keepsake: A small red plush heart he keeps his vest pocket. It’s implied to have been made by Ai in the previous game.
  • Walking Spoiler: Most discussion around Felix specifically revolves around his fall and forgiveness.

    Mateo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_5128_1.jpeg
Mateo Gardner: Ultimate Surfer
Played By: Bag Of Groceries
  • Trans Tribulations: Always wears a swimguard due to being self conscious about top surgery scars.

    Jacob
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_5041.jpeg
Jacob Kanosk: Ultimate Firefighter
Played By: Bag Of Groceries
  • Face Your Fears: Does this every single day as it is revealed his greatest fear is fire.
  • Precision F-Strike: Only swears once. Makes it count.
Jacob: Lewis, break the fucking door.

Season 3

    Zero
Played By: Travis GA
  • Amnesiac Hero: Is known as the Ultimate ???, and is having a lot of grappling to do with his lack of memories and the stress that comes with it.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Has become this when D-33's personality takes a sudden shift after an update causes her to start acting a lot more silly and outwardly emotive.
  • Only Sane Man: Has shades of this due to being an outsider of the group, given he isn't known by the other students when they get there, and that he is reacting to the multitude of eccentricities around him.
  • The Faceless: His face is usually obscured by a gasmask, goggles and a hood, obscuring a lot of his emotive features; which means a lot of characters are taking his vocal cues into account.

    Hana
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_8324_2.jpeg
Hana Makino: Lil’ Ultimate Easy Oven Baker
Played By: Alyssaromantic
  • Break the Cutie: She's in a killing game, and she's only 8 years old. That's bad enough. And then her brother dies.
  • I See Dead People: Downplayed. Hana is able to talk to ghosts using her Ouija Board, but cannot see them. Considering that several other members of the cast have tried using the same object to no avail, it is clear that Hana is the only one of them that is able to do this.
  • Only One Who Likes Spam: Hana would always love whatever her big brother made for her, and thus became very partial to Well-Done Steak
  • Sweet Baker: Since she is the Lil' Ultimate Easy Oven Baker, this is kind of a given.

    Ryo (MAJOR SPOILERS)
Played By: Greeenhand
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_5031_1.jpeg
Ryo Makino: Ultimate Sous-Chef
  • Big Brother Instinct: As Hana’s older brother and legal guardian, he is fiercely protective of her even after his death.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Very quickly establishes himself as the Only Sane Man of the group, with a clear motivation to protect Hana above all else. And then he becomes the victim of Chapter 1.
  • Only One Who Likes Spam: He always preferred to cook Well-Done Steak, and this became Hana’s favorite.
  • Supreme Chef: His food is not the best, but it is done fast.

    Walter
Played By: Shadow DJ
  • Anti-Hero: Compared to Lewis Crockett, Walter is a lot more prone to mistrusting others and wanting to look deeper. He is also a lot more confrontational and sarcastic in certain instances. He also doesn't always care about the collateral in the stories he had published in the past, usually just wanting to expose corruption.
  • Camera Fiend: Is always carrying his camera at all times, and has used it in both investigations so far; first as a way to collaberate alibis at the party, and as a make-shift magnifying glass to look over scenes.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Is one of the more sarcastic of the group.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When it comes to how Walter acts, he is fairly pretty stubborn and set in his ways. However he outright calls out Arley for their actions and their motivations.
  • Going for the Big Scoop: Walter is a journalist by trade, and is wanting to uncover any truths that are being held by the corrupt out there.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Closer to an Anti-Hero compared to Lewis of Season 2, Walter is a lot more prone to sarcasm, blunt remarks and saying it as it is. But despite these traits, he is still able to be empathetic to Hana's trauma and is very upset at the killers for what they did.
  • Information Wants to Be Free: Walter's mindset when it comes to the truth.
  • Insistent Terminology: Is VERY clear that he wants to be called the "Ultimate Journalist," instead of, "Ultimate Paparazzi."
  • Intrepid Reporter: His entire thing as the Ultimate Paparazzi, being someone who firmly believes in finding the truth no matter the cost.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: The main part of his character; he is a Boston-born reporter who made his claim to fame with exposing people's dirty laundry on the newspapers and other news sources that would take his stories. However, he makes it clear that he doesn't go after people who aren't hurting others, only the truly corrupt. Doesn't make him a totally goody-good though, he even outright admits to Jang-Mi that he is fully aware that he's a jerk.
  • Punny Name: his name is a thin pun on Water Gate, the hotel where a infamous scandal took place.
  • School Newspaper Newshound: What he was when he was an Ultimate at Hopes Peak Academy. Is now graduated to a full-blown reporter.
  • Southies: Is born and raised in Boston, MA. And has the accent.
  • Spear Counterpart: Downplayed Trope, but is this to Mahiru Koizumi of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. He's always carrying a camera, is fairly opinionated, and has a strong protective instinct to others. However unlike Mahiru, he's a lot more confident in his talent.

    Claude
Played By: Avalaise
  • Academic Athlete: Is shown to be very intelligent and is a skilled ice skater, so they are clearly fitting into this mold.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: In comparison to Avalaise's other characters, Wysteria and Wolfgang, Claude is actually fairly friendly and polite to the other characters without really any hint of distance. They just like doing their own thing.
  • Figure Skater: Has this as their talent, and is very disappointed that they don't have a skating rink on the boat.
  • Friend to All Children: Next to Eric, Claude seems to be the one that Hana is the closest to as they have multiple Free Time Events together, and the two are shown to be rather close.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Despite their petite frame, they are shown to be pretty strong.

Spoiler Characters (ALL SPOILERS ARE UNMARKED)

    Eiji

    Audrey

    Hisoka
  • Abusive Parents: Heavily implied to be this towards Eiji.
  • Evil Matriarch: Set up two killing games out of a desire to be famous again.
  • Fate Worse than Death / And I Must Scream: Her ultimate fate at the end of Season 2? Being trapped inside of an animatronic on It's A Deadly World, not being able to move or even breathe, yet being forced to listen to the same song for the rest of eternity...
  • My Beloved Smother: Overly controlled Eiji’s actions while he was alive.
