UTS

UTS, or Alien Trouble Consultants (Uchuujin Trouble Sodansha) is an organization in Mutsuba Town that supposedly deals with aliens, though in reality handled odd jobs before the start of the series. It is run by Yuamu and Yuhi Ohdo, with several employees resembling elderly versions of secondary characters from SEVENS.

    Yudias Velgear

Yudias Velgear

Voiced by: Arthur Lounsbery

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yudias_velgear.png

A soldier from the Velgear Star Cluster who fled to Earth alongside 8.88 million of his countrymen. Following a meeting with the Ohdo twins, he joins UTS in order to learn more about Rush Duels. He plays a Galaxy deck which features monsters of the eponymous type and focus on supporting Normal monsters such as his two aces Transamu Rainac and Galactica Oblivion.

  • All-Loving Hero: Yudias is always willing to befriend those he meets, even if they have previously wronged in him in some way. Although quite naive, Yudias truly believes in the good in others which can be shown by his desire to end the war of Velgear peacefully as opposed to force.
  • Ambiguously Gay: In Episode 51, just before Yudias launches the final attack on Zwijo in their second duel, Yudias confesses his love to Zwijo while the two are seen in a flowery meadow.
  • Antiquated Linguistics: Unlike the main protagonists from previous series who use modern, masculine first-person Japanese pronouns when referring to themselves ("ore" and "boku"), Yudias refers to himself with the archaic, masculine "soregashi" (Ꟑ), highlighting his origins as an extraterrestrial being.
  • Artificial Human: More like artificial life form, but The Creator created all Velgearians to act as autonomous pawns whose destiny is to fight for all of eternity. However, unlike Zwijo who was plunged into a deep despair that fueled his Faceā€“Heel Turn, Yudias declared that it did not matter how they came into the world, but how they lived their lives.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: The upgrade of his Signature Mon, Eternal Galactica Oblivion, has a requirement that is actually detrimental to the effect it activates since its requirement returns five Galaxy-Type monster cards from the GY back the deck even though part of its effect is gaining 300 ATK times to the amount of monsters in the GY.
  • Badass Normal: Not Yudias, who as a Velgearian has Combo Platter Powers, but his monsters are largely Normal Monsters with no effects and high ATK, including his two ace monsters. Transamu Rainac is so powerful it breaks normal stat conventions.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: He exclaims "Velgariva!" when shedding his Earth disguise to reveal his real form.
  • Captain Obvious: He explains to his people that Rush Duels are turn-based, after Yuamu stops him from drawing during Yuhi's turn. He also has a habit of announcing how much damage he takes from battle or a card effect. Justified, as he is a newcomer to Rush Duels.
  • Cat Boy: In his human form, without his cap on, Yudias is revealed to have two pointy ear-like bumps on top of his head, which resemble cat ears.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • To every previous protagonists by virtue of being an alien rather than a human from Earth. In addition, while his name contains "Yu" like other protagonists, Yudias's lacks the kanji 遊 associated with the sound.
    • He's also this to Yuga Ohdo, the protagonist of the previous series. Yuga is the creator of Rush Duels who plays a Spellcaster-centric deck that includes monsters of other types whereas Yudias is an alien soldier who initially has little knowledge regarding Rush Duels and whose deck is comprised solely of Galaxy monsters.
    • Being an alien and stranger to the intial Earth-based setting, he soon becomes this for Astral. Astral came from another dimension, Yudias is from outer space itself. Astral was generally The Stoic and The Comically Serious to play off of Yuma's foolishness, but Yudias' lack of social skills is played up and milked for whatever comedy it is worth. And while Yudias is a relative newcomer to Duel Monsters, Astral was an expert even with amnesia.
  • Cool Train: After being stabilized by Kaizo, the Maximum cards from "That Guy" transform from Supreme Skystream Magnum Overlord to Supreme Fullsteam Magnum Overlord, a set of three trains capable of combining with each other. Yudias uses them to counter the Maximum of the MIK.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Played with, perhaps for the first time in the franchise. It's not the victory itself that brings people close, but the connection established through the act of playing together, which leads him to making allies with people he lost to as well (like Dudi Nishaw, or the unnamed alien in the beginning of the second season). Even in the fateful duel against Zwijo, Yudias manages to bring him to his side before the duel is over, and the conclusion feels more like a formality. Noticeably, he falls victim to this as well, since the first episode ends with him in service of the Odou twins despite him actually winning the duel.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: What type of punishment does Yuhi deserve for kindly trying to open Yudias's Rush Duel booster packs? Electrocution in front of an entire crowd of 8.88 million people!
  • Distressed Dude: In Episode 21, his attempt to retrieve his duel disk from Yuna saw him getting turned into a shirt to dry out, under the captivity of the Rovian Bandits. Zwijo restores him at the end of Episode 24.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: In his duel against Rovian, he uses the Valvelgear as his duel disk due to his own being stolen by Yuna. Hoewever due to the ship lacking one of its thrusters, Yudias can only use two Monster zones and two Spell & Trap card zones.
  • Eye Beams: Has the ability to fire green beams from his eyes that are at least strong enough to destroy a rotary phone and a washing machine.
  • Fanboy: Becomes one towards Manya after watching her Rush Duel training videos.
  • Fatal Flaw: His adherence to his principles can sometimes bite him, along with his naivety. Gets bad enough that he drags himself down to the underground to try to get his duel disk back and ends up being captured by the Rovian Bandits.
  • Fish out of Water: Since he comes from a different planet, Yudias has trouble understanding the customs of Earth.
  • Forced Transformation: When the Rovian Bandits captured him, he somehow turns into a shirt after using up all of his energy that they hung out to dry. Zwijo ultimately restores him to normal with what's left of the Earthdamar.
  • Fusion Dance:
    • With the Fusion Spell he performs one between his ace monster Transamu Rainac and Sevens Road Magician to create Transamuroad Rainac.
    • Later it happens between Transamu Rainac and Voidvelgr Requiem via the Extreme Fusion spell.
  • Harmless Freezing: A freezing trap won't hurt him as he somehow survived planets with temperatures of minus 800note .
  • Honor Before Reason: Despite Meeeg-chan—taking over for Chuptaro, don't ask—technically attacking Yudias with real attack and thus going against the rules, Yudias still decides to duel her since that is the nature of how dueling works.
  • Insistent Terminology: He sees Tribute as a way of offering comrades for a chance at victory thanks to Manabu.
  • Last of His Kind: When trying to stop Yudias's and Zwijo's fourth Rush Duel, Asaka told them that they were the last two Velgearians currently alive with Tazaki confirming that all 8.88 million countrymen had already vanished. After Zwijo vanished following his victory over Yudias, Yudias became the only surviving Velgearian.
  • Mundane Utility: He uses his energy blade to stab a sheet of metal he cut off a roller door and lever it back into place to seal the hole.
  • NaĆÆve Newcomer: Yudias is a newcomer to Rush Duels (and Duel Monsters in general) and as such initially had no idea how to play the game before meeting the Ohdo twins.
  • A Protagonist Shall Lead Them: Yudias became the leader of 8.88 million Velgearians and came to Earth to learn about Rush Duels to lead them and the Velgear Star Cluster to a better future.
  • Signature Mon: Transamu Rainac and Galactica Oblivion have both been described as his ace monsters. Yudias himself identifies with the former, thinking that it resembles him.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: He's a NaĆÆve Newcomer and largely uses Normal Monsters, but they're also extremely strong Normal Monsters for the most part.
  • Younger Than They Look: For the longest time, it was assumed by the fanbase that Yudias was an adult, and his Comically Serious tendencies came from his being an alien. Turns out that in Velgerian years, he's the same age as Yuamu and Yuhi after the two year time skip, and has enrolled in their middle school, being in the same homeroom as Yuamu and Manya. Either that, or Yudias is an adult attending middle school since all Velgearians were born looking as they do now.

    Yuhi Ohdo

Yuhi Ohdo

Voiced by: Toshiki Kumagai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuhi_ohdo.png

Yuhi is the co-owner of UTS along with his younger twin sister. He searches for a mysterious item known as an Earthdamar that was stolen from him before the start of the series. He plays a deck of EARTH Machine monsters that resemble animals and power equipment. His ace monster is Jointech Rex, a T-rex mixed with a power drill.

  • Agent Mulder: At the start of the series he was utterly convinced that any strange incidents were the cause of aliens... which does ultimately prove to be true. Unlike his sister, he actually does spend most of the first episode in a panic after actually meeting said aliens.
  • Ambiguously Related: He and Yuamu share the same surname as Yuga, but the twins' relation to him is unclear. Yuga's appearance in the series proper during Yudias and Yuna's tag duel against Theā˜†Luge only complicates matters.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: He seeks to get his Earthdamar back, but after temporarily getting it back, he is rather disgusted to see the strange substance it is and spends most of the next episode with horrific stomach issues out of disgust.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: When he loses his feelings of enjoyment due to the Earthdamar becoming sentient, he becomes very logical and shows intelligence in business, which causes him to try and replace the UTS with a more profitable appartment tower.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: He's the first fully legitimate "Yu" character who has Yuga's surname (a distinct trait that he and Yuamu shared) and the first who is The Lancer instead of The Hero.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: His Jointech monsters are all of the EARTH-Attribute.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: In Episode 4, he is left with the option of saving the Velgear spaceship or going after the alien that stole his Earthdamar. Ultimately he choses to save the ship, who return the favor next episode by forming a duel disk so he can duel said alien after his own duel disk is left drenched and inoperable.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He's capable of rigging a Rush Duel simulator in Episode 7. He's still a bit of a Bungling Inventor, since said simulator goes out of control when the Velgear spaceship shorts it.
  • Got Me Doing It: He starts to pick up a few Velgar phrases from Yudias. From episode 16 onward, he also starts announcing how much damage he takes in a duel, similar to Yudias.
  • Honor Before Reason: Instead of repairing his old duel disk or getting a new one, Yuhi continues to use Velgear as his duel disk due to the efforts they went for him. This even causes him to duel against Asaka with the entirety of the UTS acting as a replacement to his duel disk after seeing the harsh working conditions the Velgear residents go through under her.
  • Karmic Jackpot: By going after the Velgear spaceship instead of retrieving his Earthdamar, Yuhi gains the respect and trust of Yudias' people who helped form into a duel disk to fight Tell in the following episode and he obtained his Earthdamar after fighting off Tell (Until Zwijo steals it).
  • Keet: Yuhi is rather impulsive and outgoing, tending to rush into situations and making mistakes or misplays.
  • Living MacGuffin: The plot MacGuffin, the Earthdamar came from inside of him and he is the one that suffers from its use, his soul even being drawn into Zwijo's monster.
  • Mythology Gag: His machine deck rather resembles Rua's Morphtronic deck from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds, who in turn was the older twin to a calmer younger sister.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Mostly in the first season but between his genius sister and the super alien protagonist, Yuhi is more or less the normal guy of the group and even has some frustration about this as Yudias is quickly promoted higher than him in UTS.
  • Promotion to Parent: Since the Earthdamar came from Yuhi, the Earthdamar gained free will and evolved into a child that shares some of Yuhi's traits.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Yuamu's blue.
  • Signature Mon: The ace monsters of his deck are the Jointech monsters with Rex being his most preferred monster of choice.
  • The Champion: Yuhi ends up winning the Galaxy Cup after he teamed up with Phaser and Zwijo to defeat Kuaidul Velgear while Kuaidul was possessing Yudias during the Galaxy Cup Finals.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: When Yudias returns to Earth after the Time Skip, Yuhi has become more aloof, refusing to take part in Rush Duels and distancing himself from the rest of UTS owing to feeling utterly powerless after seeing Ryugu Phaser defeat Yuga.

    Yuamu Ohdo

Yuamu Ohdo

Voiced by: Koko Fukushima

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuamu_ohdo.png

Yuamu is the co-owner of UTS alongside her older twin brother and the current president of the organization. She plays a High-Tech Dragon deck made up of LIGHT Dragon monsters themed after modern technology. Her ace card is Bluetooth Burst Dragon.

  • Accidental Hero: Forcing the entirety of the UTS to eat only curry bread for weeks ended up saving them from Theā˜†Luge's ice powers due to said bread being made by Zwijo, who created it to counter the Great King of Terror's boring manuscript.
  • Action Girl: A female elementary (Season 1)/middle (Season 2) schooler, who is the president of the UTS and a strong duelist herself.
  • Ambiguously Related: She and Yuhi share the same surname as Yuga, but the twins' relation to him is unclear. Yuga's appearance in the series proper during Yudias and Yuna's tag duel against Theā˜†Luge only complicates matters.
  • Badass Adorable: She's a cute Year 5 student and her ace is a technological inspired Blue Eyes White Dragon.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Unlike the previous female leads, Yuamu is not only the first under 20's main female "Yu" character (since Ageha is the first overall main female "Yu" character, and an adult at that), but also the first who is the twin sibling of a male "Yu" character and the first to run a Dragon deck. She also has Yuga's surname like Yuhi does.
  • Dragon Tamer: Yuamu plays a Dragon deck, being the first female character to do so.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The Heads I Win, Tails You Lose moment in the first episode shows us her capabilities as a Guile Hero, but also that she is the one in charge between the twins, with no qualms about directing Yuhi.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: She liked looking at fashion magazines as a younger girl and has a pink ribbon and glasses, but she also uses dragons, which are traditionally associated with male (Rival) duelists.
  • Goal in Life: According to Rovian, Yuamu is seeking something called the "Space Treasure", which Yuhi does not know about. It is unknown if this also applies to the other members of UTS at the moment. It later turns out the "Space Treasure" was a giant spaceship underneath Mutsuba Town.
  • Guile Hero: Quite capable of this at many times throughout the series. She's a very clever individual who is overall able to think very fast on her feet.
  • Heads I Win, Tails You Lose: The first duel of the series has very clear stakes: if Yuhi wins, Yudias will become an employee at UTS, but if Yudias wins the twins will have to teach him about Rush Duels. Since Yudias wins, she makes good of her promise... by having him to come to work as an employee for UTS, where he will learn more about Rush Duels.
  • Light 'em Up: At the beginning of the series all her dragons are Light-Attribute monsters, but later on adds Dark-Attribute monsters to counter opponents who use anti-Light cards against her.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Yuamu's ace card is a white LIGHT Dragon monster whose name refers to a part of its anatomy that is colored blue, similar to Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Reinforcing this is its attack being called "Burst Streaming of Destruction" which is an obvious reference to Blue-Eyes's own "Burst Stream of Destruction".
    • The younger female sister of a pair of twins with a dragon? She's essentially emulating Ruka.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Zwijo completely ruins their plan to appease Theā˜†Luge, and upon trying to clear up the air, Yuamu accidentally confirms that yes, the story is indeed boring, which just causes the unstable embodiment of negative energy to worsen in his mental breakdown.
  • Not So Above It All: Yuamu is the most levelheaded out of the main cast, but gets easily excited if treasure is involved and is very fond of limited collector's events.
  • Only Sane Man: Not always, but as of Season 2, she's fully shifted to this thanks to the current situation making everyone paranoid. As an example, she's the only one who seems to be able to tell that Manabu is a Fake Defector, while everyone else buys his terrible acting.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: Yuamu being overly excited when witnessing Manabu Fusion Summon ends up being a tell-tale sign that the revived Earthdamar has possessed her.
  • Pink Is Feminine: Wears a pink hair ribbon and has pink framed glasses.
  • Put on a Bus: At the end of Season 2, after sending Yuga back to his time, a mysterious dark force kidnaps Yuamu leaving only her glasses behind. Season 3 sees Yudias and Yuhi go out to space to find her.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Yuhi's red.
  • Reverse Psychology: In Episode 7, knowing that her brother isn't going to train Yudias over the fact it's too tough, decides that she will be the mentor instead. This riles her brother up so much that he decides to take over, all while she has a smirk on her face.
  • Serious Business: She takes campaigns very seriously and desires to obtain all the collectibles due to it being free stuff, which comes at the expense of the UTS staff, who are forced to eat only a certain type of food for weeks so that Yuamu could collect them all.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: She's the more intellectual twin of the Ohda siblings and wears pink framed glasses.
  • Superior Successor: As Tell stated, she is much more adept at using the High-Tech Dragon deck than its original owner, her twin brother Yuhi.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: When she learns about Kuaidul reaching the end of his lifespan and having wanted to experience Rush Duels before he dies she states that she can't really hate him despite how selfish he has been.
  • V-Sign: Does this during her duel against Chupataro.

A veteran UTS member who serves as a seamstress for UTS. Before coming to UTS, she was a rock star known as Princess Minstrel and served as a role model to Rovian.

MIK

The Organization for Nuisance Alien Surveillance Mechanism (Meiwaku Iseijin Kanshikikou), or MIK for short, is a group that monitor alien activity on Earth and is responsible for apprehending aliens that came to the planet without authorization.

    Manabu Sogetsu

Manabu Sogetsu

Voiced by: Natsuki Hanae

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/manabu_sogetsu.png

A member of the MIK who, alongside his partner Nyandestar, cracks down on unauthorized alien presence in Mutsuba town. He plays a Chemistry deck comprised of FIRE Pyro monsters.

  • Ambiguously Related: A retroactive case as GO RUSH progresses; at first, it seems likely that, being a member of the Sougetsu clan, Manabu is a descendant of Gakuto, though the how was not known. As time goes on however, with other characters in SEVENS having looser representations in the GO RUSH period, it's not known if Manabu and Gakuto are actual relatives.
  • Expy: Essentially identical to Gakuto in terms of mannerisms and role in the story; he does have unique traits to himself, but by and by he's pretty much Gakuto with black hair.
  • Fake Defector: While ostensibly still with the MIK after Phaser takes over Goha, his real goal is to try to figure out a way to reverse the carding process. Unfortunately, his attempts to telegraph this to everyone via Bad "Bad Acting" fail due to their own quirkiness.
  • Friendly Rival: In his debut episode, he helps Yudias with his PTSD over Tribute Summoning by framing it as a Heroic Sacrifice. While he does continue to oppose UTS after this up until Zwijo's first major move, it's made clear it's more because it is his job; he later shifts to a proper ally and the MIK's source of antagonism towards the heroes shifts towards Ranran and later Phaser Ryugu.
  • The Mole: Currently having to act as this to figure out how to free the people who were carded by the Maximum Monsters Phaser made and distributed to the MIK. Unfortunately, due to Phaser's constant surveillance, he's forced to act like a villain, and thanks to the quirkiness of everyone around him who isn't Yuamu, they all buy it despite Manabu's acting being crap.
  • Mythology Gag: He dresses up in a purple wig and cyan coat to look like Gakuto Sogetsu. Bonus points in that both Manabu and Gakuto have the same seiyuu. He's later revealed to have been part of the Sogetsu clan and was taught their style, making him a likely a relative (specifically an ancestor) of Gakuto.
  • Playing with Fire: His Chemistry deck is based on Fire monsters.
  • Pungeon Master: Makes a lot of cat puns.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Despite his young age, he seems to be at least a field commander of MIK, and is surprisingly reasonable when it comes to his job. While he's certainly devoted to investigating aliens, he's also perfectly willing to let them remain on Earth so long as they aren't causing any trouble. He lets Yudias and his countrymen stay so long as they don't cause problems, and doesn't have any problem with Bochi staying with Manya following their duel, even though he admitted to wanting to conquer Earth in the past, due to his Heelā€“Face Turn.
  • Training from Hell: From an early age, he was trained in all sorts of martial arts. This is deconstructed with the introduction of Bochi, as the clan elders did not approve of Manabu having any companions and deliberately sent the boy on a training exercise in an attempt to mentally isolate him. The subsequent disappearance of Bochi ultimately caused Manabu to leave the Sougetsu and join the MIK.

    Nyandestar

Nyandestar

Voiced by: Fairouz Ai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nyandestar.png

A talking cat with a star marking on her head that works as Manabu's partner within the MIK.

  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her planet was visited by Theā˜†Luge, who introduced games to the populace... and then traumatized them all by freezing them whenever they lost. Nyandestar was the only one of her kind who escaped this fate, and having been turned into a card by Kuaidul and brought to Earth where he lost her before meeting London Kirishima, who led her to the MIK.
  • Exact Words: Claims that her heart burns with a warm feeling for Theā˜†Luge, which at first seems to convey a sense of loyalty and love. Her inner thoughts reveal it to be anger and hatred for Theā˜†Luge for freezing her people and planet.
  • His Name Is...: Attempts to do this by using X-Ray Vision on Theā˜†Luge's freezing artifact after her duel with Manabu and forgoing her original plan to defeat him. She's able to recognize what it exactly is, but is still frozen regardless before she can properly warn the heroes.
  • Human All Along: Downplayed since she is an alien. It turns out her true form is almost identical to that of a human (with her only notable non-human traits being her cat ears, yellow sclera and slit pupils) and uses said form to duel Manabu.
  • Last of His Kind: Nyandestar comes from a race of humanoid cat-like aliens. Her family and friends were all frozen by Theā˜†Luge.
  • Love-Interest Traitor: Nyandestar is revealed to have been working for Theā˜†Luge the whole time (actually it was to get closer to him to betray him) and proceeds to duel Manabu. She shows her loyalty and love for Manabu by sacrificing herself with the frozen punishment that Theā˜†Luge set up for Manabu after she beat him in a duel.
  • Missing Mom: Lost both of her parents to the horrors of Theā˜†Luge's freezing capabilities, with one of her last memories of them being of her mother as she was frozen.
  • The Mole: Attempted to become this in order to defeat Theā˜†Luge and destroy his forces from the inside. Her feelings for Manabu ultimately prevented her from doing this.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Her humanoid form, despite it being her true form, is temporary. When assuming it, her hair color changes from grey to pink, albeit the bottom quarter remains grey.
  • Punny Name: A portmanteau of "nya" (the sound of a cat in Japan), "star" (referring to the green star on her head), and "nan desu tou!?" (Gakuto's catchphrase in SEVENS, used to indicate utter surprise and bafflement).
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Defeats Manabu, but, due to her own feelings for him and trying to figure out Theā˜†Luge's secrets once and for all, ends up getting frozen instead of him.
  • A Rotten Time to Revert: While her humanoid form is her true form. It takes so much energy she was completely exhausted after her duel against Manabu, which made her unable to steal Theā˜†Luge's Artifact of Doom and only allowed her to perform a Heroic Sacrifice by looking inside the box's contents.
  • Shout-Out: A character voiced by Fairouz Ai with a star mark. Sounds a bit like Jolyne Cujoh from Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean.
  • Talking Animal: She's a cat but is able to speak the human language with no explanation given as to why, though Yuamu believes her to be an alien, which is confirmed in Episode 19. It even goes further than that; her cat form is a temporary one that Kuaidul gave her as part of an experiment on Pawtner shortly after the incident with Theā˜†Luge there. Her true form is more human-like.

    Ranran Nanahoshi

Ranran Nanahoshi

Voiced by: Yuna Kamakura

The head of the MIK headquarters. She plays a Flower Fang deck.
  • Ambiguously Related: She shares the same surname as Nanaho, Ranze and Rinnosuke, and is also voiced by Ranze's voice actress, but her relation to any of them is unclear.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: Twofold, to both Ranze and Abidos the Third.
    • At first glance, she seems to be very similar to Ranze in terms of quirks, particularly in the obsession with cuteness to match Ranze's romantic natures, unlike Ranze, that obsession has completely consumed her and made her a terror to work with, whereas Ranze could at least keep it under control most of the time and remain a pleasant person. And of course, Ranze was a heroic character, deeply devoted to both Gakuto and her friends, while Ranran is a minor antagonist who has no such bond with Manabu and co.
    • Her win record being manufactured through her subordinates throwing the game, along with her Normal Monster-focused deck, is near-identical to Abidos, but whereas Abidos suspected deep-down that his servants did so, with his monsters being more a sign that he hadn't properly improved his strength or skills despite having a decent grasp on the game, note  Ranran's deck is noted in-universe to be hot garbage through and through and a reflection of her obsession with cute interfering with her skills.
  • Demonic Possession: While she manages to defeat Muda Velgear, she ends up possessed by the Earthdamar during the duel.
  • Fake Ultimate Hero: Gets hyped up as the strongest member of MIK, with an undefeatable dueling record. It turns out that, in a similar fashion to Abidos, most of her subordinates let her win in order to keep her ego from collapsing.
  • Irony: In SEVENS, the Nanahoshi were a branch family of the Sougetsu, and meant to act as their retainers. Here, an individual with their surname is the superior of one such member.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Signifying the Earthdamar possessing her, she gains glowing red eyes.
  • Took a Level in Badass: While Ranran started out as a Fake Ultimate Hero, she manages to become a stronger duelist through adding both Equip Spells and Fusion to her deck, which allows her to defeat Muda.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Ranranā€™s deck consists mostly of Normal Monster cards she picked based on how cute she thought they were, but when used in combination with some Spell Cards, she can summon multiple copies of her ace monster that are powered up to deal some major damage.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Cute?: Ranran is obsessed with cute things... and anything that is not cute, she chases away. Her reasoning is notably completely arbitrary; she once worked with Nyandestar, but after learning Nyandestar was an alien and not simply a talking cat, wanted her gone immediately.

    Phaser Ryugu

Phaser Ryugu

Voiced by: Kosuke Tanabe

The Commander in Chief of MIK and one of the new antagonists introduced in Season 2. He plays a DARK Sea Serpent deck which includes a Maximum Monster as well as a strategy that involves emptying his graveyard to use various monster effects.
  • Arc Villain: He is the main antagonist of the first arc of Season 2.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Coming right off the heels of Zwijo, Phaser is an Earth-based villain versus Zwijo being an alien; Zwijo showed no real malice towards other races, mostly being a Well-Intentioned Extremist willing to do whatever it took to save his people; Phaser hates aliens and will use dueling to wipe them out or imprison them without a second thought. Zwijo notably displayed several comedic quirks at times, albeit while keeping a stoic demeanor while Phaser has nothing of the sort. And while Zwijo is opposed to The Creator, there are numerous hints that Phaser is aligned with this individual. It turns out to be Kuaidul who has been pulling the strings behind both of them though.
  • Easily Forgiven: While he does apologize to everyone once they are freed and restored to normal, no one holds any animosity towards him for what he did, at worst Yuna and Asaka showing minor irritation towards him ignoring them while preparing for the Tournament Arc.
  • Fantastic Racism: Attempted to arrest all the aliens in Mutsuba Town, along with anyone assisting them. By the time of Season 2, he's forced all of them, as well as anyone considered a friend to them, underground, with no freedom to ever return to the surface world. It's later revealed his disdain for aliens came from a misplaced desire to protect his little brother Tremolo, who feared them when they were younger. Unbeknownst to him though, they are part alien, descendants of a race of space dragons responsible for creating the universe. Tremolo had found out one night after seeing Phaser turn into his dragon form but not remember doing so, and swore to protect his older brother from the truth so he wouldn't suffer an Identity Breakdown. Only after learning about his alien blood and losing to Yudias does he finally begin to let go of his hatred.
  • Foil: He and Tremolo are one to Yuhi and Yuamu: both are siblings with a Red Oni, Blue Oni dynamic, thematically connected decks and working with aliens, with the blue oni being also the leader of the respective agency. However, the Odou siblings are working with aliens and trying to help, aiming to maintain positive relationships, while the Ryugu's aim to eliminate aliens from Earth. Also, while both Odou siblings have technologically-inspired deck, that's where the connection ends, while the Ryugus have mirroring decks, with monsters of the same type but opposite attributes and strategies revolving around the graveyard, one aiming to fill it with monsters, the other to keep it empty.
  • Hero Killer: The Maximum Monsters he produces all come with the caveat that if they should defeat a duelist, that person will be turned into a card. He himself demonstrates this by defeating Yuga.
  • Knight of Cerebus: In one of the most bone-chilling cold openings of the entire franchise, Yuga is squaring off to Rush Duel him atop Mutsuba Tower, and his expression is completely dead serious. One can only shudder to imagine what kind of horrible man could rob the eternal ray of sunshine that is Yuga Ohdo of his smile. We learn why in subsequent episodes; anyone who duels a Maximum Monster that Phaser made is turned into a card, and his overall stern, ruthless demeanor makes him a much crueler enemy than Zwijo.
  • Kraken and Leviathan: Phaser's monsters involve deep sea creatures including his ace Maximum Monster, Abyssal Dragon Lord Abyss Kraken.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Tremolo's red: he is calm, collected and the leader of the two.
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: He was always in charge of the MIK of course, but after the UTS crew and co. returned to Earth, he had the MIK take over Mutsuba Town and keeps strict watch on everyone present while sending any aliens, as well as their friends or allies, straight to the underground.
  • Weredragon: Phaser's true form is an ancient alien dragon that was thought to be extinct.
  • You Are What You Hate: Despite his hatred of aliens, he himself is part alien.

    Tremolo Ryugu

Tremolo Ryugu

Voiced by: Yu Hayashi

Phaser's younger brother who is a Special Enforcement Officer of MIK and one of the new antagonists introduced in Season 2. He plays a LIGHT Sea Serpent deck built around sending Sea Serpent Monsters to the graveyard in order to power up his Maximum Monster.
  • Hero Killer: Uses the same Maximum Monster as his older brother, and demonstrates his prowess by defeating Yuhi and turning him into a card.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Less noticeable than with Yuhi and Yuamu, but he is the red to Phaser's blue. While Phaser is rather stoic and intimidating, Tremolo is more histrionic, and willing to trade jabs with Yuhi while Phaser mostly ignored Yuga. He also seems to have a personal connection with his monsters, which he calls "cuties", that Phaser lacks, and gets worked up during the duel when Yuhi seems able to corner him. Lastly, while Yuga is uncharacteristically somber during his duel with Phaser, the duel with Tremolo leads Yuhi to regain his optimism and confidence.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Like his brother, he uses a Sea Serpent deck. However, while Phaser uses DARK-attribute Sea Serpents that activate their effects on an empty graveyard, Tremolo uses LIGHT Sea Serpents with effects relying on having their graveyard full of monsters.

    Copyko Energy

Copyko Energy

Voiced by: Enako

A prison guard at the MIK Alien Detention Center who has the ability to copy other people's appearances as well as their duel styles. She plays a LIGHT Beast deck that includes a Maximum version of Magical Sheep Girl Meeeg-chan.
  • That Sounds Familiar: When Chupataro was released from the MIK Detention Center, he noticed that Copyko had a voice similar to Magical Sheep Girl Meeeg-chan's, so he recruited her to voice the main character in the anime he created. Copyko takes this role seriously to the point where she dueled Asaka and her army in a Magical Sheep Girl Meeeg-chan costume.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: She has the ability to copy anyone along with their personality and dueling style when she confronts them as shown when she has a collection of hand puppets based off of various characters.
  • Wardens Are Evil: Copyko is a sadistic prison guard at the MIK Alien Detention Center and carries around a paddle.

Zwijo's faction

    Zwijo zir Velgear

Zwijo zir Velgear

Voiced by: Takuya Eguchi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zwijo_zir_velgear.png

An alien from the Velgear Star Cluster who was Yudias's former commanding officer. Thought to be dead by the former, Zwijo is alive and currently on Earth, working with other aliens toward an unknown, but certainly ominous goal. He plays a Voidvelgr deck, an archetype of DARK Galaxy monsters that are named after cosmic voids and the Old Norse dvergr.

  • A Father to His Men: Although he's not very expressive about it he truly cares for his fellow Velgearians. In the first flashback scene we see of Zwijo, he sacrificed himself so Yudias can live and his whole motivation in the first season was to free the Velgearians from being pawns of the creator.
  • Artificial Human: More like artificial life form, but The Creator created all Velgearians to act as autonomous pawns whose destiny is to fight for all of eternity. This realization plunged Zwijo into a deep despair and fueled his Faceā€“Heel Turn.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: By the end of the third arc, Zwijo has succeeded in many of his goals; he has gained excellent mastery over Rush Duels, gained Equips from the Rovian Bandits, managed to steal a copy of Fusion, and most importantly, a copy of Mr. Universe created by Theā˜†Luge to experiment with/use later down the line.
  • Big Bad: The primary conflict-driver of Season 1. Even with other antagonists such as Rovian and Theā˜†Luge appearing in later story arcs, Zwijo can be guaranteed to have a role in those arcs, either to sabotage or take advantage of their presence for his own mysterious, overarching goals. By the time the show reaches the Velgear Star Cluster itself, it becomes clear that Zwijo is indeed the main villain of the season with many members of the cast having a grudge against him either directly or indirectly.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: Like Yudias, he exclaims "Velgariva!" when shedding his Earth disguise to reveal his real form.
  • Casting a Shadow: His monsters are all DARK Attribute.
  • Chekhov's Gun: It turns out the curry bread he sold in his bakery was not just a way to pass time and make money, but rather a way to create a counter Theā˜†Luge's freezing powers.
  • Combat Pragmatist: After materializing his monsters using the Earthdamar, he's more than willing to have them attack Yudias before the first turn ends.
  • The Comically Serious: Recent developments have shown that he can be this. Having recently created a human cover identity as a curry bread baker, he turns out to be as quirky as Yudias, but filtered through his stoic disposition.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Compared to Otes and Mr. Goha/Doll, who acted as an extension for Otes' plans and actions, Zwijo, narratively speaking, is treated significantly less ambiguously; unlike Otes, whose motivations and actions were a complete mystery, Zwijo is clearly malevolent or at least darker morally speaking. Unlike Doll, Zwijo likewise is far more direct, appearing to Yudias fairly quickly in the story and having significantly more active plans, with the main mystery being how Zwijo became the way he is today versus the commander Yudias knew him as, while Doll was a complete enigma. He's also much more involved with the other factions in the story, directly sending Mitsuko to spy on the Rovian Bandits and appearing to drive Theā˜†Luge to a mental breakdown, compared to the more passive Otes.
  • Didn't See That Coming: While he is just a spectator, he seems genuinely surprised upon seeing Theā˜†LugeĀ activate Fusion especially considering the fact that he should by the only person with a copy of that card at the moment.
  • Did You Just Scam Cthulhu?: Zwijo gains the honor of being the first villain in the franchise to do this successfully; he creates a scheme revolving around manipulating Theā˜†Luge, a being made up of pure negative energy, using his freezing and creation-destruction powers to gain an edge in the war in his home. Unlike say, Rex, who failed to break the cycle of destiny, or Vector who failed to remember that his power-ups came from Don Thousand, Zwijo not only manipulates Theā˜†Luge effortlessly, he even snags a sample of his abilities to use later down the line on top of figuring out a cure for the afflicted.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Claims to hate curry. He apparently decided to run a business selling the stuff so he doesn't have to eat it. Yuamu doesn't get it either. With the revelation that the curry was made to counter Theā˜†Luge's freezing powers, he might have simply gotten tired of eating it all the time.
  • Easily Forgiven: Given all the things Zwijo had done from trying to kill Yudias multiple times to causing Theā˜†Luge to have a mental breakdown so bad it momentarily erased countless positive energy things across the universe to literally freezing the entire Velgear High Council, itā€™s amazing how Zwijo was never punished. Even someone as powerful as the Supreme Galactic Commander of the Assault Force should have had checks on his powers, if only by the Velgear High Council but NOPE, they did nothing to him. Apparently, turning back to the side of good after losing to Yudias was enough to forgive ALL of his previous misgivings.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He may be antagonistic to Yudias, but seeing him turned into a shirt is not desirable and he proceeds to turn his comrade back to normal.
  • Fusion Dance:
    • After materializing his ace, Voidvelgr Requiem, he then uses the Earthdamar's power to effectively wear it as a suit of armor, complete with the monster gaining a copy of his duel disk. He does it again while dueling Yudias in his spaceship.
    • Later on, he does this by stealing the Fusion card after Nyandestar's defeat and applying it to his monsters only.
    • And during his second duel against Yudias, Zwijo did both by both fusing himself with Voidvelgr Requiem and then fusing it with Voidvelgr Chrysaor to summon Voidvelgr Gigantomachia.
  • Heelā€“Face Turn: After Yudias confessed to always loving Zwijo before defeating him during their second duel, Zwijo finally gave up on wanting to use Rush Duels and the Earthdamar as tools for war and instead decided to help Yudias use Rush Duels to end the war.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: For the third story arc, after mostly taking a backseat in the second, Zwijo returns just when the heroes seem to have gotten a handle on Theā˜†Luge, and proceeds to completely destroy the latter's ego, prompting a mental breakdown from the emperor that unleashes a dangerous flux of positive and negative energy, stepping back into the Big Bad seat. It later turns out that it was he who attracted Theā˜†Luge to Earth in the first place by giving him Rush Duel cards to pique his interest.
  • I Let You Win: As several of the onlookers have noted, Zwijo could have won his duel against Yudias by simply attacking one of Yudias' monsters with Voidvelgr Requiem, but instead chose to summon another monster, which allowed Yudias to change all his monsters to defense mode with Galactica Lattice. This in turn makes Zwijo's goals and morality even more ambiguous. Becomes more prominent in later episodes where he defeats both Yuamu and Yuhi, neither of whom are slouches at dueling themselves.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Despises curry despite now running a bakery that specializes in making curry-bread. His logic is: "Because I hate, I sell it so I don't have to eat it myself". ...Despite the fact that the lack of nourishment is causing him to faint. He's definitely a Velgear-resident. It later turns out he was researching curry bread due to it being the countermeasure against Theā˜†Luge's manuscript, which prevents him from getting frozen.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The moment he physically debuts causes GO RUSH!! to start transitioning into legitimately Darker and Edgier territory, with him having malevolent plans in mind with the other aliens on Earth, who he is the leader of, and later turns out to have mysterious, but certainly dangerous, intentions with the Earthdamar, as using it to manifest Meeeg-chan seriously harms Yudias, and takes an enormous mental and physical toll on Chupataro. Starts to go away in later appearances however, where he begins creating a proper human cover for himself, and is revealed to have similar quirks as Yudias. And then he appears to break Theā˜†Luge, causing yet another catastrophe in order to gain more power, before initiating a coup on his homeworld.
  • The Last Dance: With the entirety of the Karumata reaching the end of their lifespan, he decides to lose the last energy and time he has for one last Rush Duel against his rival and comrade Yudias.
  • Love Redeems: Only after Yudias told Zwijo that he has always loved him before defeating him during their second duel did Zwijo stop his rampage.
  • Mortality Ensues: After finding out that the lifespan of the seemingly-immortal Velgearians was coming to an end, Zwijo felt a mixture of complex emotions including joy, as he felt more alive now that he could actually die unlike what happened on that distant planet or what happened during Theā˜†Luge's mental breakdown.
  • Miracle Food: His curry bread is actually a cure for Theā˜†Luge's ice powers with even a single touch of it being enough to free a person from their icy imprisonment.
  • Not Quite Dead: Yudias believed him to have died during the war in the Velgear Star Cluster, only for him to show up alive and well on Earth although with no explanation for his survival.
  • No-Sell: Theā˜†Luge's boring manga manuscript has no effect on him due to him creating an antidote with the curry bread he created.
  • Not Afraid to Die: Knowing that he's going to disappear soon alongside the knowledge that the energy spent Rush Dueling hastens it, he decides to use that time to have one last Rush Duel against Yudias, whether he lives through it or not.
  • Powered by a Forsaken Child: Once the Earthdamar evolves into Damamu, Zwijo has no trouble draining their life force to power his Fusion Dance with his ace monster.
  • Resurrective Immortality: The reason why Zwijo is here to this day. He really did die after sacrificing himself to save Yudias, but was immediately revived at Go Rush Yu. His revival horrified him, making him question who and what he was. The Creator telling him that all Velgearians were autonomous pawns who would revive time and time again and would be destined to fight for all of eternity drove Zwijo into a deep despair and fueled his Faceā€“Heel Turn.
  • Signature Mon: His signature monster is Voidvelgr Requiem, which he fused with using the Earthdamar and named his bakery after.
  • Spanner in the Works: Just when everything thinks they've gotten a handle on Theā˜†Luge... Zwijo wrecks their plan by insulting the original draft of "Mr. Universe" in the most savage way possible. Cue Theā˜†Luge breaking down and unleashing waves of unstable energy. Subverted later on when it is revealed that it was merely part of his plan.
  • Spell My Name With An S: The official spelling for his name transliterates to "Zuwijo."
  • The Stoic: When not planning or confronting his enemies, Zwijo tends to be this; barely reacting to his more excitable subordinates and their antics.
  • The Unfettered: Nothing in Zwijo's eyes is too high of a price or risk in his quest to dominate the war in the Velgear Cluster; whether it was using Chupataro and Mitsuko as pawns, or even being willing to try to manipulate something as terrifyingly powerful as Theā˜†Luge. On top of initiating a coup and freezing the Velgear High Council.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Right: Unable to keep resisting any more of Theā˜†Luge's negative energy waves, Zwijo snags a copy of Mr. Universe and teleports away, telling Yudias that they will meet again later.
  • Villainous Rescue: Has what's left of the Earthdamar used to turn Yudias back to normal, while also giving him an Equip Spell to use against Rovian.
  • Warhawk: Zwijo only views Duel Monsters and "Rush Duels" as a tool for fighting. The idea of them being used for peaceful measures is something he vehemently rejects when Yudias duels him attempting to illustrate that point.
  • We Will Meet Again: He tells Yudias this when he disappears after Theā˜†Luge has another outbreak of negative energy.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He wants to use the Earthdamar and Rush Duels to end the war in his home system. And later on, use Theā˜†Luge to wipe out all forms of positive energy, solely to gain his power. In addition, during his second duel against Yudias, Zwijo revealed that he wanted to harvest enough Earthdamar to turn the artificial Velgearians into true life forms.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: After his first death, the revelation that Velgerians are artificial beings cursed to die and be reborn over and over again as part of some sick game being played by their creator made Zwijo cross the Despair Event Horizon. All of his actions are born out of desire to obtain freedom for himself and his people at any cost. In his case, the "Destroyer of Worlds" part of the trope name is very literal, since his plan involves committing genocide against humanity in order to harvest enough Earthdamar to achieve his goal.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: Zwijo's overall goal is very flexible; gain power to end the war in his home galaxy. Because of this, any kind of development in Rush Duels or the universe factors into his plans. Specifics include gaining Equip Spells, discovering Theā˜†Luge, and later on, stealing the Fusion card.

Chupataro Kaburagi

Click here to see his true form

A Chupacabra-like alien who works for Zwijo. He is obsessed with the card Magical Sheep Girl Meeeg-chan. He plays an Ewekai deck consisting of Sheep-based Beast monsters known as Ewekai.

  • Chupacabra: As his name and appearance might suggest, he is based on one. He even claims to Manabu that his family are the origin behind the stories about Chupacabra.
  • Hidden Depths: Episode 27 shows that he is rather knowledgeable on how to make anime as shown when he is forced to take charge on most of the production due to UTS not being skilled enough.
  • Jerkass: Attacks people just because they own or say things related to his favorite card, mocks Yudias for believing his lies, and gleefully threatens Valvelgear and claims he wants to cause trouble.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Due to being in prison, he did not know that Mutsuba Town went into space due to the space treasure activating. Likewise, of all the people directly connected with Zwijo, he's clearly on the bottom of the totem pole and overall is unaware of his boss' plans.
  • Mobile-Suit Human: Chupataro uses a robotic body in order to pass as a human. In a bit of a twist, however, his human face is his real one while his alien face is a mask.
  • Serious Business: His obsession with Meeeg-chan is this; he steals cards, fanart and even went for Mr. Yaki's yakitori solely on the basis because he said Meeeg-chan's catchphrase ("Not baaaaad!") and also was hungry for yakitori.
  • Sweet Sheep: His Ewekai deck is full of adorable looking sheep with his signature card being one called Meeeg-chan.
  • Unwitting Pawn: In the end, this is all he amounts to for Zwijo's faction; unlike Tell and Mitsuko, he never learns about any of his superior's plans, and was infected by the Earthdamar so Zwijo could test its capabilities.

    Mitsuko Hiramori

Mitsuko Hiramori

Voiced by: Yuu Kobayashi

A three-meters-tall alien who is based on the Flatwoods Monster. Like Chupataro, she also works for Zwijo. She has a thing for the number three and loves to scare children more than eating. She plays a deck consisting of LIGHT Reptile monsters that reference various urban legends.
  • Beautiful All Along: Beneath the armored bodysuit, she looks like a fairly normal girl, if a bit severe and having a height akin to Aporia.
  • Broken Faceplate: The helmet of her Flatwoods Monster suit ends up damaged in the finale of the first arc, which now shows half of her face inside of it.
  • The Dragon: She's Zwijo's most devoted follower, and, unlike Chupataro who was used as an Unwitting Pawn, seems to be in on his real plans... that is, until Zwijo leaves Mutsuba Town after gaining a sample of Theā˜†Luge's power. Her status as this is then thrown into question when Zwijo's actual second-in-command from the Velgear Cluster, Dinowa, is introduced, bringing into question for Mitsuko if she truly was this or just another Unwitting Pawn.
  • Evil Sounds Raspy: She speaks in a raspy voice. But when she takes off her bodysuit, she speaks like a normal girl. That being said, get her mad enough, and she'll start speaking like this again.
  • The Flatwoods Monster: The cryptid that Mitsuko is based on.
  • Giant Woman: Somewhat downplayed, but she has proportions that make her very tall and large, not unlike Aporia.
  • Hidden Depths: When in public, she comes across as loud and excitable, but when in private or with Zwijo, sheā€™s shown to be rather stoic and composed.
  • Meaningful Name: "Mitsu" means "three", in reference to her being three meters tall, while "Hiramori" is a Japanese translation of "Flatwoods".
  • The Mole: She infiltrates the Rovian Bandits under orders from Zwijo in order to figure out their plans and acquire Equip Spells.
  • Rage Breaking Point: While dueling Dinowa, Mitsuko is angered by Dinowa's insults towards her and about her relationship with Zwijo to the point where Mitsuko goes back to her creepy Flatwoods Monster personality and summons her Flatwoods Monster suit (still broken from the first arc finale's events) when she goes through her final turn to defeat Dinowa.
  • Rule of Three: Mitsuko has a strong affinity with the number three. Even her first name means "Third Child".
  • Subordinate Excuse: The reason why she is so loyal to Zwijo is also due to being in love with him, which causes her misinterpret his words for romantic gestures.
  • Verbal Tic: She constantly throws variations of "three" and "third" into her sentences.
  • Woman Scorned: During her duel with Dinowa after the latter's taunts about knowing Zwijo better get to her. She downs an entire pot of hot dumpling soup and declares that she will hunt Zwijo down for toying with her feelings.

    Dinowa Velgear

Dinowa Velgear

Voiced by: Yuko Natsuyoshi

A Velgearian, who is said to be a brilliant strategist and the true right-hand-woman of Zwijo, sent to keep an eye on the Mutsuba Town group in his current absence. Like Yudias and Zwijo, she uses a Galaxy-deck, but hers is focused on multiple Attributes with an insect-theme.
  • Ambiguously Related: Not as obvious as some characters in GO RUSH, but Dinowa's insect-themed deck and ladybug-styled headgear immediately bring Nanaho Nanahoshi to mind. Them having similar traits of being diabolical schemers is also worth noting, though it is not known how this factors into GO RUSH's timeline.
  • Artificial Human: More like artificial life form, but The Creator created all Velgearians to act as autonomous pawns whose destiny is to fight for all of eternity. She clasped her mouth in shock upon Zwijo telling everyone, shaken from the realization.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Gives off this vibe thanks to her height and childish demeanor.
  • The Dragon: Claims to be Zwijo's TRUE second-in-command. At the very least, she was the one assigned by him to track the progress of Yudias and co.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As absolutely loyal Dinowa is to Zwijo, she was absolutely horrified when Zwijo told everyone of his desire to conquer Earth to steal all the Earthdamar from everyone who has it.
  • Foil: She's basically designed to be the complete opposite of Mitsuko. Physically-speaking, Dinowa is a toddler-sized individual with white hair versus the very, very tall Mitsuko and her mostly black hair. Personality-wise, Mitsuko is calm and affable, while Dinowa is loud and domineering.
  • Jerkass: Arrogant and bratty, she makes her debut taunting everyone, taking a particular grudge with Mitsuko due to a shared Subordinate Excuse. Later on, she sneers at the efforts of the heroes thinking they can defeat Zwijo, clearly looking forward to them losing and potentially dying.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Rude and bratty Dinowa may be, but she's not wrong that professionally-speaking, she is Zwijo's proper right-hand woman, and no doubt has a greater knowledge of his long-term plans than the aliens who he met during his travels. Of course, this applies more to Mitsuko's perspective; for everyone else, Dinowa is simply another enemy.
  • The Last Dance: With the entirety of the Karumata reaching the end of their lifespan, she along with Muda decide to use the last of their energy for one last Rush Duel with the two of them facing off in a tag duel against Yuami and Yuhi. While Muda reaches the end of his life in the middle of the duel, she was able to use his cards to win the duel with her having no regrets in fading away. She's able to last long enough to be there for Zwijo's final moments as well, fading away as her and Mitsuko help Zwijo stand to finish the duel between him and Yudias.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: She is half the size of Yuamu and is known as a brilliant strategist. At the very least, her dueling is shown to be rather calculating, preferring to use Traps and loop effects to weaken the opponent's board and strengthen her monsters.
  • Subordinate Excuse: It's implied that she has a similar affection for Zwijo as Mitsuko; notably bragging about truly knowing Zwijo's interests and their shared past together.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Her pitch-white hair contrasts with her very bratty attitude and establishment as a villain.

    Muda Velgear

Muda Velgear

Voiced by: Tatsuyuki Kobayashi

A Velgearian working under Zwijo who specializes in psychological warfare, he is tasked with infiltrating the MIK to reclaim the Earthdamar. He uses a Beautiful Bird deck featuring Winged-Beast monsters.
  • Artificial Human: More like artificial life form, but The Creator created all Velgearians to act as autonomous pawns whose destiny is to fight for all of eternity. Upon Zwijo telling everyone this, Muda wordlessly fell into his chair in shock.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: He is first shown in the flashback showcasing how Zwijo and his crew met and took Yuga and Kaizo as their prisoners before making his debut in the present infiltrating the MIK.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As absolutely loyal Muda is to Zwijo, he was absolutely horrified when Zwijo told everyone of his desire to conquer Earth to steal all the Earthdamar from everyone who has it.
  • The Last Dance: With the entirety of the Karumata reaching the end of their lifespan, he along with Dinois decide to use the last of their energy for one last Rush Duel with the two of them facing off in a tag duel against Yuami and Yuhi. While he reaches the end of his life in the middle of the duel, he managed to plant the seeds needed for Dinois to win the duel.
  • The Mole: He is sent to infiltrate the MIK to reclaim the Earthdamar for Zwijo's plans.
  • Pretty Boy: He is an effeminate man noted to be beautiful by the members of the MIK, which is also shared by his aptly named Beautiful Bird deck.
  • Uniformity Exception: When infiltrating the MIK he wears a yellow beret instead of the standard black one.
  • Victorious Loser: While he loses the duel against Ranran, he succeeds in getting her possessed by the Earthdamar.

Tell Kawai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tell_kawai.png

A Kappa-like alien who is constantly drenched in water. He is the one who stole Yuhi's Earthdamar from him, having done so to unravel the mystery behind it. He plays a Kappa deck of WATER Aqua monsters.

  • Everyone Has Standards: He may be a Mad Scientist, but Zwijo's destructive actions are too much for him, and thus he assists Asaka. Zwijo doesn't seem to hold it against him however, and later goes to him for help in restoring Yudias back to normal after the fiasco with the Rovian Bandits.
  • Kappa: The basis of his character and deck. Him stealing Yuhi's Earthdamar is a reference to a part of Kappa lore where they are said to remove a fictional organ called the "shirikodama" from humans.
  • Mad Scientist: He seeks to unravel the greatest truth in the universe and goes to extreme lengths to get a subject for study.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: His primary desire is For Science!, but he's not overly malicious or cruel; he doesnā€™t work for Zwijo, and based on how Zwijo interacts with him during Episode 24, his association with him seems rather contractual. His true superior seems to be Asaka.
  • Punny Name: His name is derived from "kawaita", meaning "parched" in Japanese.
  • Worthy Opponent: He comes to see Yuhi as this after their second duel, to the point it seems to cure his secretion problems.

    Manya Atachi

Manya Atachi

Voiced by: Rio Suzuki

A famous child star who used to go to school with the Ohdo siblings. She plays several Bubble Actress decks, based on her previous movie roles, consisting of Aqua monsters of different Attributes that resemble child actresses.
  • Ambiguously Related: She shares the same surname as Mimi and Yoshio from SEVENS, but her exact relation to them is not known.
  • Battle in the Rain: Her Rainy Metropolis field spell invokes this.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She and Bochi end up having to rescue Yuhi and Yuamu from the Rovian Bandits.
  • City People Eat Sushi: She complains that that she only wants to finish the taping of the show early so she can eat sushi.
  • Determinator: It took her 88 tries before she became famous as Cure Maiden.
  • Making a Splash: Her monsters are Water attribute along with her Field Spells, Bubble Kingdom and Rainy Metropolis.
  • Pink Is Feminine: She wears a bright pink dress.
  • Signature Move: Like, Mimi, the ace monster of her Deck is Dian Keto, with her epithet reflecting what her movie role her Deck represents:
    • WATER: Dian Keto the Cure Maiden, representing her first breakout role in "The Cure Maiden"
    • FIRE: Dian Keto the Gourmet Maiden, representing her role in "Hanako no Naruto"
    • EARTH: Dian Keto the Cleaning Maiden, representing her role in "The Cure Maiden: Fall Special"
  • Star-Making Role: In-universe; she finally became famous for her role in a one-time TV special called "Cure Maiden".
  • We Used to Be Friends: She was friends with Yuamu back when they were in pre-school, but once she became famous, she seemingly forgets about it. The end of the episode reveals that this is false; she and Yuamu are still friends and the entire haughty display was just a game of pretend between the two.

    Bochi

Bochi

Voiced by: Takuma Nagatsuka

Manya's pet dog, who is really an alien from the Bow Wow Wow Cluster. He plays the Heartless Hound deck consisting of DARK dog-like monsters, whose main focus is using high-Level monsters to revive low-Level monsters for a Beatdown strategy.
  • The Big Guy: Becomes this for the protagonists as the series proceeds.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: He was first seen in one of Manya's flashbacks before his debut.
  • Heelā€“Face Turn: Originally plotted to perfect the Wicked Dog technique for his people to dominate Earth, but meeting Manabu and Manya caused him to soften and in the case of the latter, caused him to reform.
  • Talking Animal: An alien dog who can speak.
  • Tough Spikes and Studs: He wears a spiked collar.
  • Vocal Dissonance: He's an adorable puppy with a very masculine voice.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: He's apparently known for a technique called the Wicked Dog that allows him to use Puppy-Dog Eyes to weaken an opponent's defenses before attacking them. Yudias himself admits that he's fallen for the trick.

    London Kirishima

London Kirishima

Voiced by: Kazuki Furuta

Manya Atachi's manager. He plays an Arts Angel deck, consisting of DARK Fairy monsters based off of retro music devices like cassettes and mixtape, whose main focus is exploiting the opponent's use of Defense Position monsters to inflict huge damage with his effects.
  • Ambiguously Related: He shares the same surname as Romin and Roa Kirishima from SEVENS, but his exact relation to them is not known. However, like Romin and Roa, he and Rovian are cousins.
  • Big Brother Bully: More of an elder cousin bully, but he attempted to prank Rovian several times when they were children. None of his traps worked on her, and she wasn't even aware he'd set them in the first place!
  • Connected All Along: Is revealed to have been the first person Nyandestar met after the destruction of her planet. He used his social connections to discover the MIK, enabling the cat to join them in the first place; before becoming Manya's manager to find possible links to Theā˜†Luge. This would lead into discovering the underground alien district and the spaceship, hence his need to hire UTS. He thus has played a role in instigating the meeting of many characters in the story.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: For all of his sociable personality traits, London believed himself an empty person with no real talents compared to someone like Rovian. Learning about Theā˜†Luge from Nyandestar motivated him to gain that role and purpose.
  • Good All Along: After his shadier actions, the cast become suspicious of him and his motivations, with his deflections not helping his case. He later turns out to truly want to defeat Theā˜†Luge, thus avenging his cousin and helping Nyandestar save her people. He even apologizes for his cruel taunts to Manabu concerning Nyadestar's hidden motives, as well as to UTS since he can't pay them; he even legitimately liked Manya.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Challenges Theā˜†Luge, fully intending to expose the source of his power. With the help of Fisher Sukai, he succeeds, at the cost of himself and most of Sukai's sky-fish getting frozen.
  • Mysterious Backer: Takes up this role in the second arc, wanting UTS to find Yuna Goha. As the arc progresses, it becomes clear that there is more to this assignment than meets the eye, and shortly afterwards, London seems to vanish, to the puzzlement of the rest of the cast. He later seems to have mysterious plans and intentions in mind as a whole concerning Theā˜†Luge, which are later confirmed to be defeating him, though partly motivated to find a purpose within himself in doing so.
  • Stepford Smiler: Before becoming Manya's manager, though London put on a sociable front, he admitted that that was all it was; a front. He considered himself an empty person with no true talents or standout qualities, and his smiles were a mask until meeting Nyandestar and finding purpose in defeating Theā˜†Luge.

    Asaka Mutsuba

Asaka Mutsuba

Voiced by: Minami Takahashi

The President of Mutsuba Heavy Machinery. She uses a "Demolition" Deck, consisting of FIRE Attribute Wyrm monsters with a focus on Normal Monsters.

  • Ambiguously Related: She has the same surname as Asana from SEVENS and resembles her. With the revelation of GO RUSH taking place in the past of SEVENS, Asaka seems likely to be an ancestor of Asana.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: In her first duel, sheā€™s shown using construction equipment that resembles Wyrm Excavator as a Duel Disk, but with how big it is, her later duels would see her using a Duel Disk she can place in front of her.
  • Foreshadowing: Mutsuba Town notably features a tower not unlike the one that would be in place for Goha Corporation that is still under construction; which foreshadows Yuga revealing that GO RUSH takes place in a past time period of SEVENS. This makes sense, since before Goha Corporation became dominant, Mutsuba Heavy Machinery was the more powerful company; Kamijou Gear Company of course, not being taken into account due to their age and never participating in any corporate conflict.
  • Grade-School C.E.O.: She is the President of Mutsuba Heavy Machinery.
  • Irony: In SEVENS, Mutsuba Heavy Machinery had essentially gone bankrupt, and was reduced to a bike repair shop, thanks to Goha Enterprise's monopoly and control over Goha Town. Here, Mutsuba seems to have the majority of control over its own named town, and though nowhere near as tyrannical, Asaka assumes she has enough influence to lead the charge against the Great King of Terror and pilot the Valvelgear ship herself. Even the company sizes are reversed; Goha is merely a company here, while Mutsuba is the corporation. Which makes sense, as Goha had just been founded in this time period.
  • Mythology Gag: The construction equipment she uses on the radio tower resembles Wyrm Excavator, minus the dragon face.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Her company was able to rise thanks to buying out several other companies and when Manya complains about the fact she is stuck in space despite needing to go to Earth for her job, she simply pays her with several briefcases full of money, which she considers 'pocket change'.
  • Those Two Guys: Is often seen together with Yuna in season 2.

Alien Residential Area

    Jersey Devil Planet Inhabitants

George Jersey

Voiced by: Takaya Kuroda

The eldest brother of the Jersey Devil Brothers. He plays a Jersey deck, consisting of a parody of classic DM monsters wearing jerseys.
  • The Jersey Devil: The cryptid that George and his brothers are based on.
  • Mr. Exposition: His duel is to explain how the varying kinds of costs work in Duel Monsters including life points, card activation and tributing monsters.

    Fisher Sukai

Fisher Sukai

Voiced by: Kenji Nojima

A group of Skyfish aliens that live in the Alien Residential Area and acts as an informant. They use a Sky Fossil deck made up of WIND Zombie monsters resembling prehistoric organisms.

  • Distressed Dude: During the Rovian Bandits arc, they end up captured and held in a bag by Yuna Goha.
  • The Informant: Pretty much his role; UTS searches for him to get intel on Yuna Goha, and after his loss, offers his services to them rather freely. Him being an actual school of skyfish makes it very easy for him to gather information as well.
  • Mind Hive: All of the skyfish that make up Fisher Sukai have their own personality, as displayed when they do not take on his unified form.
  • Spanner in the Works: Breaks London out of the MIK interrogation room, and then ends up being the key factor to reveal the truth of Theā˜†Luge's box.
  • Super-Speed: The individual skyfishes that make up their true form can move so fast, it's almost impossible to see them.
  • The Worm That Walks: Fisher's true form is of a school of skyfish which can merge together to take other forms.

    Nomuratodamas

Nomura

Voiced by: Aoi Ichikawa

  • Seers: He pretends to be one with the help of the Chapeau alien (a species of aliens that look like hats) Damas giving the two together the name Nomuratodamas though he is exposed as fake.

Damas

Voiced by: Katsunori Okai

  • Seers: Can legitimately see into the future due to Chapeau aliens in general being able to see into the near future. He isn't as good as Rovian's Chapeau alien Camos who has a considerable amount of respect among her kind though.

Rovian Bandits

    Rovian Kirishima

Rovian Kirishima

Voiced by: Tomori Kusunoki

The leader of the Rovian Bandits. She uses a WIND Psychic deck that, in addition to using LP payment to achieve powerful hand manipulation effects, comes with Equip Cards, similar to Yuna Goha.

  • Ambiguously Related: Shares her surname with Romin (along with her cousin Roa) from SEVENS, while also being played by the same VA, but like the rest of the cast, no relation confirmed so far. However, like Romin and Roa, she and London are cousins.
  • Arc Villain: For the second arc wherein the cast enter the alien underground that MIK created; she is in charge of the main antagonistic forces that are encountered in that storyline. She's later learned to be training to take down the "Great King of Terror", who we learn in the third arc to be named Theā˜†Luge, and after this becomes a loose ally.
  • Berserk Button: Engaging in a duel for reasons that she views as impure or corrupt is a BIG no-no for Rovian. Knowing that Yuhi wants to just get a promotion in UTS and that Yuamu is seeking a mysterious treasure is enough to, well, literally turn on Rovian's "Berserk Mode" and crush them both.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Speaks mostly in poems and has a bit of an airy, indirect attitude... yet not only is she in command of the Rovian Bandits, she's also the one who created the Duel Power system for the aliens underground, and is a very skilled and powerful duelist with her gang having a monopoly on Equip Spells.
  • Blow You Away: Her Psychic-type monsters are all WIND-attribute.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: A Wandering Minstrel who speaks in poetry and is one of the most skilled duelists in the series so far.
  • Cast from Hit Points: As with most Psychic-type duelists, several of her card effects require paying life points to activate.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Taken to extremes with Yuna who is easily her most devoted and loyal follower, though Rovian does not openly acknowledge this admiration.
  • Heelā€“Face Turn: With the revelation of the true threat being Theā˜†Luge, who is the primary antagonist of the third story arc, Rovian ends up joining the side of the protagonists.
  • Hoist By Her Own Petard: Her hand-ripping opening move against Theā˜†Luge ends up spelling her defeat, as among the discarded cards was a second copy of his ace monster, Theā˜†Dragias, which he proceeds to revive on Turn 4 to provide the finishing blow against Rovian.
  • Hypocrite: She claims to hate those who duel with agendas in mind, yet in her first duel arranged it to benefit her and rather than providing hope to the aliens in the Alien Residential Area out of altruism, she's been collecting Duel Power to power the Space Treasure.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Similar to Romin, her duel disk is also a guitar, though it is a different type of guitar than Romin's.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Her "Berserk Mode" state acts as this; if Rovian is facing off against duelists who she believes have impure motives, she will duel to crush them without mercy.
  • Loophole Abuse: When in a Battle Royale, both Yuhi and Yuamu assume that having twice the numbers of cards (albeit still sharing LP), will give them enough advantage to beat Rovian. She instead utilizes the fact that both of them being her opponents means that effects that depend on how many cards the opponent has will pretty much double the benefits for her, such as engaging in mass hand-ripping leading to damage, or increasing the ATK of her monsters.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Also like Romin, she is able to enter a red-eyed state. It also has a noticeable effect of making her black hair turn red. Unlike Romin, she seems to be able to willingly enter it.
  • Secretly Selfish: Accuses Yuhi and Yuamu of being this, questioning them if their goal in the underground was just to get a promotion and to find the Space Treasure respectively.
  • Tranquil Fury: After Yudias was able through pass through her Equip Spell with his own one, which he received from Zwijo. It's clear that she is not happy about it even though she remains her calm in the duel and tries to vent it through a ballad.
  • Trap Master: Called one by Yuamu; she is less akin to Rishid and more akin to Richie, this comes more into play with the timing of Rovian's traps, setting a card anticipating Spell/Trap destruction to protect her main defense.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Just like Yuna, she manages to prove a significantly more difficult opponent for UTS by, in this case, defeating both Yuhi and Yuamu in a Battle Royale. It's more notable for the latter, as it's the first time Yuamu has lost so far in the series.
  • Wandering Minstrel: Acts as this and is called a "Dueling Minstrel" by Yuna. Unlike most minstrels, she is very deadly in combat and leads an entire Bandit group on top of being the one to implement the Duel Power system in the underground.
  • The Worf Effect: She is a powerful duelist and the Arc Villain of the second arc, but is defeated by The Great King of Terror to showcase his might.

    Yuna Goha

Yuna Goha

Voiced by: Kanon Takao

The President of the Goha Company, who London wants UTS to find.////In Season 1, she plays a multi-attribute Spellcaster deck loaned from "That Guy". The deck utilizes a card known as Sevens Road Magician as its ace, which she also supplements with a new type of Spell to "Rush Duels", Equip Spells. In Season 2, she uses her own Celeb Rose Deck. That deck only uses Light-Attribute Spellcaster monsters that focus in using spell cards especially Equip Spells.

  • Ambiguously Bi: Sheā€™s first introduced as Rovianā€™s biggest supporter and is implied to have had a crush on her since they were kids, but in season 2, sheā€™s shown to have developed feelings for Yuga.
  • Ambiguously Related: She shares the same surname as that of the Goha Siblings from SEVENS, but her exact relation to them is not known. Additionally, her given name contains "Yu".
  • Anger Born of Worry: This is her reaction to finding out that Yuga was away with Theā˜†Luge after the battle with him.
  • Big "NO!"!: Has a tearful one in Episode 53 after the relic turns Yuga to a card
  • Berserk Button: Making assumptions seems to set her off; UTS' belief that she was kidnapped by the Rovian Bandits when in truth she willingly joined them causes her to treat them much more viciously.
  • Character Development: Is introduced as a Psycho Lesbian for Rovian who acts against UTS and their allies in a very vicious manner; after Theā˜†Luge is revealed as the next main adversary, she is portrayed in a less awful light, though her base personality does not change. After Rovian is frozen by Theā˜†Luge, however, Yuna begins to do whatever is necessary to defeat him, even willing to learn and operate Mutsuba's card machinery herself when Asaka refuses. The latter notes that this is a stark difference from Yuna in the past, a basic Rich Bitch who basically knew of no troubles.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Zigzagged. She has admired Rovian since they were younger, which pretty much explains why she was so willing to leave Goha and form the Rovian Bandits with her. but in season 2, it's revealed that Yuna has developed feelings for Yuga.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Exaggerated. She looks up to Rovian so much, she won't tolerate anyone who tries to harm a hair on her.
  • Determinator: After the Fusion spell was stolen and learning that Mutsuba Heavy Machinery does not have the resources to make another themselves, Yuna decides to use their machinery to make the card herself despite the amount of work and hardships it requires.
  • The Dragon: Is Rovian's top enforcer and second-in-charge of the Rovian Bandits.
  • Fangirl: Very much so to Rovian - she makes Mimi's infatuation for Roa from the previous series look tame. Even more so in that she thinks that Rovian's strange poetry is something to admire, while everyone else seems to ignore it. Of course, given that she legitimately loves Rovian, it makes sense.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It doesn't take a lot to set her off.
  • Hidden Agenda Villain: Has a desire to get her hands on Yudias' duel disk. The fact that she seems to be using a Sevens Road deck near identical to Yuga may or may not have something to do with it... not to mention the chief engineer of Goha bears a suspicious resemblance to him, and is later confirmed to be him. Though she later returns it to Yudias, implied to have been at Yugaā€™s request.
  • Hidden Depths: Much as she fangirls over Rovian, she legitimately believes in her leader's ideals about dueling being free and pure from greedier desires; notably, she herself is supposed to be the President of Goha Company, whose SEVENS counterpart was infamously in near-total control of every business in Goha City, yet is now one of Rovian's followers.
  • Jerkass: To everyone except Rovian, Yuna is very unpleasant and demanding to be around, and Yudias in particular gets the short end of the stick since he has to duel and lose against her. Fisher Sukai, as her captive, is also heavily abused by her. This lessens a bit in the next arc and is fully averted by season 2.
  • Light Is Not Good: She's dressed in very bright colors, and her hair is a pale blonde, but is The Dragon to Rovian, and becomes the first duelist in the series to defeat Yudias in a duel. Subverted later on, where she aids the protagonists.
  • Misery Builds Character: Asaka notes that until Theā˜†Luge froze Rovian, Yuna was your average Rich Bitch who barely had to work a day in her life. With her beloved now frozen and Mutsuba lacking the resources to make another copy of Fusion, Yuna works tirelessly to create a new copy to save Rovian.
  • Psycho Lesbian: A G-rated version of sorts, but she is obsessively devoted to Rovian, who is also female. The only reason she came into conflict with UTS was because of their intent to locate her beloved "Rovian-sama". She also yells at the other members of the Rovian Bandits when they do not appreciate their leader's poems. Later episodes start putting her in a more benign role, and her love for Rovian is portrayed in a more positive light. Zigzagged when it's revealed that Yuna has developed feelings for Yuga, a boy.
  • Those Two Guys: Is often seen together with Rovian in season 1, then with Asaka in season 2.
  • Undying Loyalty: Yuna will do anything for Rovian. When learning from Asaka that manufacturing another copy of Fusion will take too many of Mutsuba's resources, she rolls up her sleeves and works tirelessly to learn the process herself and create a new trump card to save Rovian (though she fails amusingly) from being frozen by Theā˜†Luge.
  • Vague Age: Her exact age is not known, but is, at a minimum, known to be of elementary school age.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: The first duelist in the series to defeat Yudias, discounting Zwijo, who let Yudias win for unknown purposes.
  • Wingding Eyes: Her eyes tend to turn into huge hearts whenever she's fangirling over Rovian.

    Menjaburo Omori

Menjaburo Omori

Voiced by: Daisuke Nagumo

A self-proclaimed student of ramen dipping, who joined the Rovian Bandits out of admiration for Yuna. He plays with a Noodle Mask that focuses on summoning high-attack monsters capable of recycling Spell Cards.

The Arctic Nebula

    Theā˜†Luge

Theā˜†Luge

Voiced by: Taku Yashiro

The ruler known as The Great King of Terror, an enigmatic threat who lives in a cold ice-themed spaceship, and has, in turn, wreaked havoc across several galaxies by freezing countless worlds.

He plays a Dragon-type deck focusing on Normal Monsters with his ace being Theā˜†Dragias.

  • Affably Evil: Despite his title, status, and his apparent tendency to freeze those he meets in blocks of ice, he is a rather friendly individual, even when doing the latter. He later turns out to actually be Obliviously Evil.
  • Ambiguously Related: He looks exactly like Luke from SEVENS along with using a similar deck focusing on an ace named Dragias. Not to mention also having "Theā˜†" as part of his name like Theā˜†Lukeman.
  • Arc Villain: Of the third arc of GO RUSH after the Rovian Bandits, who primarily formed to defeat him. He at first proves to be a very dangerous threat, what with his mysterious box that freezes anyone who looks at it, who happen to be the people who lose duels in his presence. Zwijo eventually shows up and takes over as the primary threat by sending Theā˜†Luge into a mental breakdown. However, as Zwijo intends to weaponize him, the protagonists must still stop the plan by defeating Theā˜†Luge.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: The horrible, boring, dull, rough draft of "Mr. Universe" he created has frozen countless planets, destroying civilizations, is now threatening the Earth... and also froze the publishers who had to edit and rework it into something not awful.
  • Barrier Maiden: A male equivalent. His emotions must be kept under wraps; no-one, whether it be UTS or his subordinates, knows what might happen if he learns that his original version of "Mr. Universe" is boring. Zwijo totally roasting it causes Theā˜†Luge's emotions to spiral out of control and release destructive waves of energy that destabilize the balance of positive and negative energy in the universe, destroying anything containing positive energy such as works of fiction, food and amusements park with Rush Duels only barely surviving due to the amount of positive energy it contains.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Theā˜†Luge, despite his title, is friendly when he is introduced which disappoints UTS and their friends. However, upon defeating Rovian, Theā˜†Luge shows Rovian a mysterious case which freezes her in a block of ice, quickly changing the heroes' perspective of Theā˜†Luge. Taken to extremes when Zwijo appears and insults Mr. Universe's secret rough draft to high heaven and hell (whilst blaming it on everyone else), causing Theā˜†Luge to have a mental breakdown that begins to destroy all fictional entertainment in the surrounding area.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Not quite confirmed, but his demeanor and behavior, when juxtaposed with what he does to the fallen, along with what Theā˜†Providence implies about his meeting others to make friends, indicates that he may genuinely see nothing wrong with freezing his defeated opponents. Ultimately deconstructed; the reason he falls into this has to do with his status as a Humanoid Abomination; in truth, he feels emotions exactly the same way as humans, but his existence as living negative energy means that he has trouble processing bad ones; this resulted in his subordinates having to lie to him to spare his feelings, or others being too afraid to properly confront him due to his strange powers. Once he is defeated by Yudias and Yuga, and reads the terrible manga draft that froze so many people, he moves out of this territory and desires to make amends.
  • Boring, but Practical: As a beginner, Theā˜†Luge's strategy is remarkably simple; he relies on straightforward plays to build his Normal monsters' ATK as high as possible and just stomp over his opponent's defenses. Even his Fusion Monster ace, Theā˜†Dragiastar is not particularly complicated; it either resurrects its Fusion Materials, or lets monsters with the same name attack twice.
  • Brown Note: What is within that box of his, a secret manuscript of his current serial, Mr. Universe, which is made of the same negative particles as him, is this. All who see it are mesmerized by its contents owing to it being so horribly boring... and are then immediately frozen. Not even X-Ray Vision will protect you. You see it, you're frozen, period. The only way to dodge is by gazing at the contents and telling a person who hasn't seen it before you're completely frozen. Nyandestar and London, being singular beings, cannot do so, but Fisher Sukai's Sky Fish components are able to communicate the details enough so that at least one member can remain and spill the secret.
  • Can't Take Criticism: Don't call his prized "Mr. Universe" boring in his vicinity, lest you want him to enact his wrath on you. Zwijo's utter dissing of it sends him into a mental breakdown that destroys all works of fiction in sight, which threatens to spread to the entire universe.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: In comparison to Luke, Theā˜†Luge is Affably Evil and calm, versus his hot-blooded SEVENS counterpart. He also utilizes Normal Monsters far more than Luke, who used a wide variety of Effect Monsters just as much as offensive capability. He also doesn't lord his victories over his opponents, which would make him far more pleasant than Luke... if it weren't for the fact that he freezes those he defeats and seems to have caused immense devastation around the galaxy in freezing entire populations, something Luke at his worst would consider going too far. On a lighter note, like Luke, he too has written a manga, known as "Mr. Universe", but unlike Luke, he published it, and it has become a long-running serial, and gained legitimate fans. That being said, "Mr. Universe" has an absolutely terrible secret manuscript that freezes people because of how boring it is, in stark contrast to the heroic Theā˜†Lukeman; the "Mr. Universe" that has been published had to be severely edited by the publishers (who all were frozen from the effort). Also, while Luke desired to bring forth and then dominate Rush Duels, Theā˜†Luge merely considers them fun, and his status as a Humanoid Abomination means that if his emotions become too negative, he could outright destroy them.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Specifically within Yu-Gi-Oh!, he is one for the many Eldritch Abominations peppered throughout it, in a variety of ways:
    • He at first seems more akin to the Light of Destruction and Darkness, what with his Blue-and-Orange Morality in seeing nothing wrong with freezing people, and spreading a wave of cold doom across the universe. He is even later revealed to be a walking source of negative energy, not unlike how Zorc, Don Thousand, the Earthbound Immortals, and Z-ARC were embodiments of negative human emotions themselves. The deconstruction begins from his power source being related to concepts associated with negativity as a whole, primarily relating to boredom rather than just human emotions, and thus instead of being a naturally malevolent Omnicidal Maniac empowered by such things, he's an Obliviously Evil individual whose morality is no different from a human's (he is ultimately confirmed to be ignorant, when he finally processes his actions and emotions, he is shown to not be evil); it's just his status as a Humanoid Abomination means his emotions getting out of control has dire consequences he himself is incapable of stopping, if he is even aware of them in the first place, meaning his powers are as much of a danger to him as they are to others.
    • His power in its purest form, instead of acting as The Corruption to living beings, destroys only their creations; living beings themselves are only frozen by that which his power first creates, not killed, assimilated, or driven insane by his existence as one would usually expect. Likewise, his abilities do not improve or even factor into his deck, rather, they threaten to destroy the very duel itself when let out for a prolonged period of time.
    • Like how the Light of Destruction and the Great Leviathan were to Duel Monsters, he is shown to be an outsider to the world of Rush Duels, similar to how the Light and the Great Leviathan were not Duel Spirits and spent much of their time trying to kill or corrupt them; both created Purposely Overpowered cards and could not be defeated by conventional dueling. Instead of this trait making Theā˜†Luge an Outside-Context Villain with a broken deck manipulating someone else, he is merely the pawn of the non-abomination Zwijo zir Velgear, who has much more experience in dueling than Theā˜†Luge. Zwijo thus completely manipulates him into unleashing his powers through gaslighting, and when looking at their strategies, Zwijo is clearly the more experienced duelist; Zwijo didn't even want Theā˜†Luge for his dueling prowess, he only wanted to use his powers as a weapon. Zwijo also manages to escape with a sample of Mr. Universe, with Theā˜†Luge none the wiser, or even capable of doing anything about it if he did know.
    • After witnessing a duel he freezes the loser, even if they are his followers, similarly to how the seal of Orichalcos or Earthbound Immortals took the soul of the loser after a duel, regardless of it was a friend or enemy. However, it turns out that Theā˜†Luge isn't trying to punish the loser, but to comfort them, and just never realized that showing them his manga was the reason they froze over.
  • Evil Is Deathly Cold: He is the evil overlord of the Arctic Nebula, which is so cold his spaceship is full of ice and he has a mysterious case that freezes whoever sees what's inside it. According to Kawai Tell and Theā˜†Providence, Theā˜†Luge himself is an embodiment of negative energy, meaning that he's this by nature.
  • Evil Overlord: Well, he certainly didn't obtain the title of "The Great King of Terror" for being a nice guy. When met, he seems Affably Evil, but then after defeating Rovian, freezes her, which, based on the number of frozen individuals in his ship, explains his reputation quite well. Subverted with the reveal of him being a major Mike Nelson, Destroyer of Worlds; he's not really a king, the survivors of the civilizations he unintentionally froze with his terrible draft of "Mr. Universe" just congregated around him. Turns out a number of them are loyal to him and not merely following him due to fear, though.
  • Failed a Spot Check: The people he showed his manga pages to were frozen over. He never even realized there was a correlation between the two things.
  • Humanoid Abomination: He's a walking singularity of negative energy particles and if his emotions are sufficiently riled, can unleash waves of chaotic negative and positive flux that can erase works of fiction from existence that threaten to consume the entire universe.
  • Instant Expert: Despite being a beginner in Rush Duels, he is able to defeat Rovian despite it being his first time playing the game.
  • Irony: Concerning his relations or at least similarities to Luke:
    • In SEVENS Fusion was created by the Theā˜†Lukeman, in this series the Spell card was created to defeat him.
    • Luke continuously claimed to be possessed by a demon, except he wasn't, he just had a powerful application of the Pauli Effect. Theā˜†Luge however, is an actual, legitimate Humanoid Abomination whose very existence creates things like terribly bad manga that can spread negative energy to people and freeze them.
    • Luke at one point became an Unwitting Pawn to Yuo Goha, who desired to take control of Goha Corporation, and to cushion the losses he was facing, recruited Luke through trickery. Theā˜†Luge is also an Unwitting Pawn to Zwijo, but while Luke was a quick stopgap for Yuo that got out of hand solely because of Luke's stupidity and possession by Theā˜†Lukeman, Theā˜†Luge is emotionally manipulated and broken by Zwijo's manipulations to essentially act as an Apocalypse Maiden.
    • Luke in SEVENS was an Invincible Hero (or villain, based on the story arc), who despite his attitude, was very skilled and experienced at Duel Monsters and easily adapted to the Rush Duel format, taking the entirety of the series to take a loss, and it taking just that long for his prideful attitude to be crushed. From the outset, Theā˜†Luge by contrast, is an Unskilled, but Strong beginner who uses very basic, but effective moves, is more ignorant of certain matters, with his existence as a Humanoid Abomination making it difficult for him to process emotions. As such, he ends up taking his first loss rather gracefully and is more willing to atone for his past actions.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Played With. Yuna shows him his own horrid manga draft, just as he showed so many others... except since he was Obliviously Evil, experiencing it as a reader finally drilled in the point that he royally screwed up and thus, once the cure to his freezing is discovered, he moves to unfreeze the planets he had frozen.
  • Logical Weakness: As he is a walking mass of negative energy, instances of positive energy can counter his existence from freezing you. Such as curry bread made by Zwijo, which is used to cure those who were subjected to his powers.
  • Me's a Crowd: Has the ability to duplicate himself if he should ever need to fight in a Tag-Duel. This applies to his key strategies as well, as his best cards rely on having monsters with the same name present on the field.
  • Mike Nelson, Destroyer of Worlds: His first draft of "Mr. Universe" was so terrible and awful, owing to the negative energy he is the embodiment of, that it froze planets across many galaxies, destroying many civilizations. Everyone assumed thus, that he was an Evil Overlord, when in reality, he had zero idea that the frozen people were... y'know, actually harmed by his terrible work, meaning he built an empire of ice and destruction out of sheer ignorance.
  • Obliviously Evil: The dude has no idea that his draft of Mr. Universe is so boring and dull it spreads negative particles that eternally freeze people... which in turn has caused planet and galaxy-wise devastation.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Averted. Him going unstable from his emotions clearly has dire effects on his mental state, and he is not immune to being frozen by his own creations.
  • Skewed Priorities: Witnesses Nyandestar forgo her intentions of revenge by swiping his freezing box in an effort to protect Manabu after defeating him in their duel. After being frozen herself, he picks up the box... and then asks, in a legitimately confused tone, about who actually won.
  • Spell My Name with a "The": Just like Theā˜†Lukeman his name starts with "Theā˜†", which is shared by all his underlings with Nyandestar and Zwijo also using it when they temporarily joined his faction for their own personal agendas.
  • Suckiness Is Painful: The true nature of his Brown Note that freezes you; it is an old manuscript of "Mr. Universe" that is so boring, so utterly awful in its dullness, that it encases you in negative particles that freeze you forever. The negative energy itself is something he gives off, meaning that his work is doomed to be this forever. Kawai Tell outright compares his energies to the forces that cause stagnation.
  • The Unreveal: Since he already has his own deck from Zwijo, it is never shown what the deck he received from London contains.
  • Unwitting Pawn: In the end, he was but a pawn for Zwijo's ambitions, as the latter saw Theā˜†Luge as nothing but a means to gain power. Zwijo introduced Rush Duels to Theā˜†Luge specifically to lure him to Earth so that he could take advantage of the alien's universal destructive capabilities.

    Theā˜†Providence (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Voiced by: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka

  • Ambiguously Related: He resembles Nail Saionji and they are both defined by their fixation towards providence, but the relationship between them two is unclear.
  • The Creon: He is utterly loyal to Theā˜†Luge, and after learning that Theā˜†Luge embodies negative energy and is causing the universe to freeze he looks for a way to help him realize that as well instead of taking any direct action against him although that's also partially because he fears that being too direct would depress Theā˜†Luge and cause more damage. However, he stays in Theā˜†Luge's service even after the crisis is resolved. In Season 2, itā€™s revealed to be a ruse as Zaion betrays Theā˜†Luge in order to make a profit for his space furniture company. Zaion then turns Theā˜†Luge into a massage chair. It's then revealed that Zaion was manipulated and controlled by Kuaidul to do his bidding when he swallowed a gear.
  • The Dragon: To Theā˜†Luge. Upon realizing that his boss is actually an embodiment of negative energy who has ignorantly frozen worlds, he begins working on a plan to undo the damage that was caused by his boss, or at least get him to stop showing the terrible copy of "Mr. Universe". After the duel, he is still loyal to him as well until itā€™s revealed that he was manipulated by Kuaidul when he swallowed a gear that gave Zaion the power to turn people into furniture such as when he turned his boss into a massage chair.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: A case where he's forced to act in this role upon realizing that his superior is Obliviously Evil. He has to come up with a way to get him to stop showing the awful copy of "Mr. Universe" without him throwing a reality-destroying temper tantrum, thus bringing him onto the side of the heroes. Then Zwijo screws the plan over. However, Zaion was brainwashed by Kuaidal when he was given the power to turn people into furniture and ends up turning Theā˜†Luge into a massage chair with hopes that he could save his furniture store.
  • Oh, Crap!: Once his boss falls into despair at Zwijo insulting "Mr Universe".

    Theā˜†Yeti Yukio

Theā˜†Yeti Yukio

Voiced by: Sekai

One of the servants under Theā˜†Luge who takes part in the Friendship Rush Duel Tournament. He plays a WATER Beast deck with a theme designed around boredom.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Despite having once being a part of an acting troup, his acting is noted to be terrible due to being way too melodramatic and direct in his message.
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: In fitting with the ice theme of the Artic Nebula, Yukio's cryptid design is modelled after a Yeti.
  • The Bore: Not him but his deck which is designed to be as boring as possible with his signature card being "Uninteresting Manga" all in order to gently inform Theā˜†Luge that his manga is boring. Granted, since Yuamu used those same cards herself, it's implied that he had to deliberately modify his deck to include them in the first place.
  • Making a Splash: His deck is entirely WATER Attribute.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: He initially comes across as untalented and makes various pointless moves throughout his duel with Yuamu. This is all intentional to convey his message to Theā˜†Luge.
  • Sunglasses at Night: He wears his sunglasses both in-doors and even during nighttime.
  • Verbal Tic: Yukio often adds the word "yei" on the end of his sentences.

Dark Matter Empire

    Sabyuas

Sabyuas

Voiced by: Show Hayami

A Darkman who pursued Yudias' group on their journey in space to find Yuamu by having the ability to transform into a shadow panther. He plays a DARK Dark Matter deck which involves activating monster effects based on the number of set cards on the field.
  • Ambiguously Human: An inverted example where his status as an alien is in question since he certainly doesn't seem to be human, is encountered in space following Valvelgear and also appears to be unfamiliar with beings that, in his words, "live where the light shines", but still doesn't trigger Yuhi's hair's usual reaction towards aliens, which Epoch notices. There is also the fact that Yudias has never heard of the Dark Matter Empire despite him being knowledgeable enough about different alien species to identify even one as obscure as the Jersey Devils.
  • Animorphism: Can transform into a panther-like form that can traverse space.
  • Casting a Shadow: His abilities (which include being able to make a duel disk appear from darkness), his monsters and even him setting his monsters are framed with a darkness theme.
  • I Gave My Word: Claims that the Darkmen of the Dark Matter Empire always keep their word.
  • Sadist: He enjoys the suffering of other people which extends even to something like Yuhi having to desperately hold it in due to the toilet needing to be repaired though he also doesn't actually know what a toilet is.
  • Shadow Walker: Can enter and hide in other people's shadows.

Other Characters

    Earthdamar (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Damamu

Voiced by: Hina Kino

A strange substance that originates from inside Yuhi. It is a strange gooy substance capable of manipulating reality, which causes it to be sought after by Zwijo, who wants to use it for his own purposes. After possessing Yuamu and travelling to Velgear, it gains its own body with the appearance of a child that looks similar to Yuhi.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: After gaining a human form, Damamu has the ability to turn into a giant should they get upset, but calmed down when they saw Yuhi and Yuamu playing a Rush Duel for fun.
  • Fun Personified: According to Dinowa, the Earthdamar is supposed to be representative of human desire to have fun considering that it originated from Yuhi. With fun comes free will, and once the Earthdamar gained free will, it evolved into gaining a human form.
  • Goo-Goo-Godlike: For an otherworldy substance capable of warping reality, it has a very childlike personality upon becoming sentient.
  • It Can Think: Eventually it becomes sentient somehow.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: After Yudias defeats Zwijo in the first arc, it is taken by the MIK for safekeeping until it manages to break out and possess Ranran. It turns out, however, not to be inherently evil at all, and becomes actually good with some guidance from the Ohdo twins.
  • Self-Duplication: For some reason, Damamu was able to create a 2nd Damamu.
  • Walking Spoiler: It is rather hard to talk about this thing considering its role in the series and the fact it becomes sentient.

    The Goha Engineer (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Yuga Ohdo

Voiced by: Hiiro Ishibashi

The head engineer of Goha Company, who works for Yuna Goha. He is the same individual who gifted Yudias with a 7-shaped Duel Disk and Rush Duel boosters that make up his Galaxy deck.

For tropes that apply to him in Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS, see his character folder here.

  • Big Entrance: His proper debut appearance sees him crashing into Theā˜†Luge's ship from above during the latter's tag duel against Yudias and Yuna.
  • The Bus Came Back: Under unexplained circumstances, he returns during Yudias and Yuna's tag duel against Theā˜†Luge, accompanied by a robot with a familiar voice who saves a physically taxed Yuna from falling off a height. Yuga addressing his robot partner as "Kaizo" affirms that he and the main protagonist of SEVENS are one and the same.
  • The Faceless: We see some of his body profile, but never his face. What we do see prior to his return proper, makes him look eerily identical to Yuga Ohdo, the protagonist of SEVENS. Though he is helmeted in the present, we see his face in a reflection, and later on, in flashbacks.
  • Keet: Even with his position as head engineer of the Goha Company, he's as excitable as ever when in a Rush Duel.
  • Mysterious Past: He was the one who gave Yudias the Galaxy-type cards, but is now working for Yuna Goha. With his proper debut during Yudias and Yuna's tag duel against Theā˜†Luge, all of these events open up a whole other can of worms with GO RUSH and its relation to SEVENS. We eventually learn that GO RUSH actually takes place in the past of SEVENS, and that after his duel with Otes, Yuga ended up in a different time period, where he crashed into Zwijo's ship and was captured. After his escape, he met Yuna and Asaka to bring Rush Duels and Solid Vision into this time period... which as he admits, should not exist in this period of time at all; what this means for the future is, as of this writing, unknown.
  • Negated Moment of Awesome: Against Theā˜†Luge, he Fusion Summons Sevens Paladin the Magical Knight, his ace Fusion Monster back in SEVENS used to defeat Theā˜†Lukeman, only for Theā˜†Luge to return his ace back to his deck with Theā˜†Cancel.
  • No Name Given: He is not name-dropped in-universe, but his voice, reputation as the creator of Rush Duels, and Kaizo accompanying him in his proper debut appearance all point to him being the main protagonist of SEVENS. Other characters take to addressing him as "That Guy/Him" because they don't know his real name. His name is finally given in #60, when Yudias and Tamaki recover and read his card.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: His return is mostly treated as a positive and an enigma; positive since he's here to deal with Theā˜†Luge, and an enigma due to his origins. The one truly ominous fact is the one that causes Yuga concern; as Rush Duels and their associated technologies do not exist in the time period that GO RUSH should take place in regards to SEVENS, he seems to truly be concerned for the consequences of introducing them so early; he notably grimaces in a way that he rarely, if ever, did during SEVENS, even when dealing with Nanaho's ladybugs.
  • Put on a Bus: After his duel with Ryugu Phaser, the Stone Monument appears out of nowhere and turns Yuga into a card after losing to him.
    • The second time, which they hope becomes permanent, sends him through a wormhole to his timeline.
  • The Unreveal: Before joining Yudias in his duel against Theā˜†Luge, Yuhi inquires Yuga about his identity, but he doesn't respond to it. For the viewers however, it's quite obvious that he's Yuga.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about him without referring to the fact that he and the main protagonist of SEVENS are the exact same character.
  • The Worf Effect: Ryugu Phaser uses a Maximum Monster against Yuga to showcase how much of a threat he is.

    Shewbahha

Shewbahha

Voiced by: Shuichiro Umeda

A galactic delivery boy who comes from a line of Dragon Busters and has the ability to transform into a sword. Shewbahha plays a deck of WIND Warrior monsters including Buster Blader.
  • Honor Before Reason: He was secretly willing to risk starving to death for the sake of honoring his side of the agreement after losing to Yuhi.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Can transform into a sword with the power of flight.

    Dudi Nishaw

Dudi Nishaw

Voiced by: Tarusuke Shingaki

Commander of the Dudi Fleet in the Dudi Ducasse Star Cluster. Due to his indecisive personality, Nishaw plays a deck that has a mix of monsters including those that use coin flip effects.
  • The Ditherer: He tends to take a long time to make a single decision, which causes the Rush Duel he has against Yudias to take years before he makes his first move.
  • Logical Weakness: The machine used by the Dudi fleet to take decisions relies on a coin toss. As such, when he has to pick one of the three monsters Yuudias has on the field, the machine is entirely useless.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: The Dudi Fleet have a big elaborate machine created to make decisions for them, which is essentially an overglorified way to toss a coin.
  • Mythology Gag: He has a monster named Arcanaika Force Dotchtkers in his deck which references the Arcana Force archetype Sartorius used in GX.
  • Take a Third Option: Defied, as their entire philosophy relies on two-option choices, and his character development is eventually about making those choices himself rather than finding different options.

The "God" of the Velgerians (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Otes' Earthdamar

Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa

  • Abusive Precursors: He created the Velgerians for the sole purpose of fighting for eternity, dying and being reborn over and over as part some kind of sick game he's playing, describing them as mere cards with free will.
  • Creating Life: Did this for the entire Velgear Star Cluster.
  • The Faceless: Similar to Yuga, they deliberately obscure his face, but he is obviously related to Otes, the Big Bad of SEVENS. He has the same voice actor and he's in possession of the Rush Duel monument that has the legend of the King of Duels inscribed on it from SEVENS. It was all but confirmed that he was the Otes from SEVENS who in the aftermath of his final battle with Yuga was flung back in time even further than Yuga had. After obtaining the Rush Duel monument and realizing that it wasn't made using any method known in the time period the show is set in, Yuamu concludes that it must be him as no one else would have the ability to create the monument. Her suspicion is all but confirmed to the audience when the monument reacts to the word "Otes" by possessing Yuamu and giving her a card from Otes' "Darkness" deck. It seems like as if it was directly confirmed to be Otes when Ranran leads a search for The Creator and explicitly identifies him as Otes. Except it turns out that that it actually was Otes' Earthdamar.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The revelation he gave to Zwijo after the Velgerian commander's first death about the true origin and purpose of the Velgerians caused Zwijo to cross the Despair Event Horizon and begin to pursue freedom for himself and his people at any cost. It later turns out to actually have been Kuaidul who was pretending to be him though.
  • Pet the Dog: He is indicated to genuinely care about Kuaidul.

    Ehoko "Epoch" Kamijo

Ehoko "Epoch" Kamijo

Voiced by: Saeko Kamijo

A little girl who is the head of the Kamijo Family. Due to being incredibly shy, she lives in and walks around in a cardboard box.

She duels with a dice deck that makes use of Graceful Dice and Skull Dice to increase the ATK/DEF of her own monsters while lowering those of her opponent based on the result.

  • The Captain: Due to her Noblesse being able to calm others down, Manabu lets her become Valvelgear's captain despite losing the duel.
  • Compelling Voice: The reason why she always hides in a box and has her voice filtered is due to possessing Noblesse, which has the power to put people under her control. She initially lacked control over this, but is able to properly use this after gaining more confidence in herself with her only using it to calm others down.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: In her first Rush Duel against Yuhi she cheats by acting as the dice herself to give herself high rolls, but still loses to him in the end once he uses his Maximum Monster against her. In her duel with Manabu, Epoch realizes how bad cheating is, and by destroying her box, she vows to never cheat again.
  • Dramatic Unmask: Throughout the Galaxy Cup Arc, only parts of Epoch's face were shown underneath her box though she was only seen outside the box once when she was alone in her bedroom (albeit her face was turned away). However, when Epoch used the Pauli Effect to exorcise Kuaidul out of Yudias, the close impact broke the front of her box causing Epoch's face to be exposed to Yudias, much to her shock and annoyance. In her duel with Manabu, Epoch finally removes her box and reveals that she wore the box to hide her Noblesse power which involves brainwashing people with her loud voice.
  • Face Your Fears: Epoch was afraid of the Darkness Monsters and lost trust in Yudias when he used Darkness Galactica Oblivion. However, during the Galaxy Cup Finals between Yudias and the team consisting of Phaser, Zwijo and Yuhi, Epoch confronted her fears and made her way to the arena with the help of Theā˜†Luge. Epoch then used the Pauli Effect to exorcise Kuaidul out of Yudias, but it destroyed the front of her box causing her face to be seen by Yudias.
  • Metamorphosis: Before making her box, Epoch had short blue hair, and let herself go causing her hair to darken and get long. During her duel with Manabu, Epoch destroys her box, reverts back to her old hair, and somehow changes her outfit to that of a performer.
  • Shrinking Violet: Due to her shyness she's always inside a box, but her interactions with everyone else are very loud. Turns out, before the story, she had a power known as Noblesse which allows her to brainwash people with her own loud voice. After using it on her classmates in kindergarten, she was terrified of her power and used the box to seal it away.
  • Sixth Ranger: She becomes part of the UTS trio in season 2 and tags along with them in season 3.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: In the few glimpses of her under the box, it is shown she resembles Haruka "Tiger" Kamijo, who is possibly her descendant.

    Maguto Sogetsu

Maguto Sogetsu

Voiced by: Makoto Furukawa

A talking tuna (Yudias identifies him as a space fish) who walks around in a human suit and was adopted by the Sogetsu Family after Manabu abandoned the Sogetsu Style.

He duels with a Surging-Wave Deck that consists of a WATER Fish Deck that can counter the effects of Maximum Monsters.

  • Graceful Loser: He takes his loss against Manabu well and is later shown to be on fairly amicable terms with him.
  • Kryptonite Factor: He has a Fusion Monster with an effect that works against Maximum Monsters.

    Tamako Kago

Tamako Kago

Voiced by: Ayako Kawasumi

A fellow Flatwoods Monster alien that's friends with Mitsuko. She takes on the form of a basketball hoop in order to trick anyone that plays basketball by moving away from the ball. Besides rigging basketball games, Kago is incredibly lazy and does not want a job.

She shares a Secret Investigator Deck with Mitsuko that consists of a LIGHT Reptile Deck.

  • Giant Woman: Her height is similar to Mitsuko's.
  • Lazy Bum: Refuses to work even when she's hungry and Mitsuko doesn't have any curry breads to give her to the point where she decides to Rush Duel Epoch for her curry bread with Mitsuko and Yuamu joining them in a Tag Duel. Yuamu figured that this might perhaps be an effect from Kuaidul's Space-Time but it turns out to be a genuine traits of hers.

    Valvelgear CPT

Valvelgear CPT

Voiced by: Kanna Nakamura

The AI of the Valvelgear who was made sentient after Yudias, Yuhi, Damamu, and Epoch used the Hyper Matter Blender to fuse curry bread with Space Dragon fabric.

She plays a Cybersepice Deck that consists of a FIRE Cyberse Deck that involves making her opponent reveal their cards in order to activate various effects.

  • Defecting for Love: When Valvelgear CPT was inspecting damage to the ship, she met Sabyuas who followed Yudias and his crew by lurking in the shadows. Valvelgear CPT found Sabyuas attractive and was the only one rooting for him when he dueled Yuhi.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Valvelgear CPT often gets angry and violent with Yudias and his crewmates and has become a liability for the crew.
  • Red Is Violent: When Valvelgear CPT was dueling Yudias, her skin goes from yellow to red when she becomes really angry and aggressive to the point where she threatens to blow everyone up.

    Kuaidul Velgear (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Kuaidul Velgear

Voiced by: Subaru Kimura

The first Velgearian created by The Creator and the main antagonist of the Galaxy Cup Arc and the Kuaidul Space-Time Arc. He was the one behind the carding of people with the Maximum Monsters as well as brainwashing duelists with the Darkness Monsters. All these actions are part of the Kartios Project in which Kuaidul wants to use Yudias' charisma to take over everyone in the universe to be his pawns. However, after the Galaxy Cup ended, Kuaidul was able to trap the universe into another dimension called the Kuaidul Space-Time, and plans to use the Space-Time to turn everyone into his own deck.

His deck is composed of the signature cards of the entire cast except Yudias turned into cards. However, this makes his deck very unbalanced since it is mostly comprised of high-level monsters with a few Trap and Spell cards. However, Kuaidul rebuilds his deck and creates a Praime Deck that consists of LIGHT replicas of the cast's ace monsters, which allows him to tribute summon with only one monster at the cost of the newly summoned monster's attack points being decreased.

  • All Your Powers Combined: This is essentially how he built the two decks he was shown to use with every card except Transamu Prime Armor Nova corresponding to one person he turned into one of his cards. It should be noted though that the first deck he made like this has significantly worse synergy than the latter one he made due to many of the signature cards simply not working well together and can therefore not fully take advantage of this trope while also being a lot more reliant on luck.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Even though Yuhi beat Kuaidul in the Galaxy Cup Finals, Kuaidul was able to sneak a Darkness Monster into the deck that Yuhi was playing. Kuaidul then proceeds to trap everyone in Mutsuba Town in his fictional reality known as Kuaidul's Space-Time causing everyone to gain weird features such as Yuhi's voice changing or Yuamu having her eyes looking like they are closed all the time because her glasses are marked.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: He nearly forgot about his part in Zaion's return during the Galaxy Cup until the latter called him out about it.
  • Cheated Angle: There are some inconsistencies with Kuaidul's hair depending on the angle with which you look at it.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist:
    • Compared to the previous antagonists of Go Rush who to varying degrees either had some kind of good intention or were ignorant Kuaidul's actions are all the result of clearly selfish motivations and he's fully aware of what he's doing, why he's doing it and the consequences. His approach to realizing his dream of playing with everything underneath the twinkling stars is to essentially rob everyone else of their freedom and the way he tries to prolong his life gets him condemned by pretty much anyone other than Yudias which includes former enemies. In addition to that he was manipulating and exploiting other people and biding his time to achieve his goals while the antagonists before him were usually a lot more actively involved.
    • As a fellow Velgearian who is completely fine with being a Kartumata and clearly holds The Creator quite dearly with him always having known about his nature and even having been involved with the creation of all the other Kartumata he is a stark contrast to Zwijo whose entire motivation is to defy the fate as Kartumata given to the Velgearians by The Creator upon learning about it which is highlighted by Kuaidul outright considering Zwijo's reaction to the truth boring.
    • There are a good number of parallels with the approaches between Kuaidul and Otes which fits someone whose master is Otes' Earthdamar and from whom he learned. There are also some considerable differences though.
      • Both Kuaidul and Otes manipulated things from behind the scenes for most of the series, used the relic and Darkness cards, had a climactic confrontation with a portion of the cast that happens to include the episode of their respective series numbered 90, created cards that can mentally affect people through special powers, used a deck with monsters that solely had the attribute of their respective series' protagonist's ace monster, and they both Fusion Summoned using a signature monster associated with their respective series' protagonist while never using a Maximum Monster.
      • Otes used Darkness cards to make his own deck while Kuaidul mostly let other people use them for his purposes and only ever used Darkness Jointech Tyrant himself with him later only using Praime variants of them, Otes used a deck where the monsters all had the DARK attribute and the Spellcaster type while Kuaidul used a LIGHT attribute deck with a large variety of types, 90 was the starting episode for Otes' final duel in Sevens and it was the last one for Kuaidul, Otes proclaimed his actions to be for the sake of dueling and children while Kuaidul used Rush Duels solely for himself, Otes frequently showed up in Sevens and was known as a former employee of Goha before he was revealed to be an antagonist while Kuaidul didn't show up until his reveal as an antagonist as anything other than a narrator with no indication of being an actual character and was unknown even for the Velgearians, Otes was the creator of the progenitor of Goha Duels while Kuaidul didn't even really know what Rush Duels were at the time of the beginning of Go Rush, and Otes was the final antagonist for Sevens with his fate after that being left unknown while Kuaidul isn't the final antagonist and is shown to die.
  • Creating Life: Has been shown to share this ability with The Creator and used this to assist him with creating all other lifeforms of the Velgear Star Cluster.
  • Delayed Narrator Introduction: He has served as a narrator for the series long before his official introduction at the beginning of the series and Episode 52.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones:
    • He hasn't shown any sign of resenting being a Kartumata to the point of considering Zwijo's idea of turning Kartumata into real lifeforms using Earthdamar to be boring, wanted to know whether The Creator preferred Rush Duels or the Kartumata with The Creator's constant mentions of Rush Duels motivating him to travel to Earth to find out what Rush Duels even were and was visibly saddened about The Creator departing. He also couldn't help but question why the Milky Way galaxy that is The Creator's birthplace was given to someone else despite his joy of seeing what he considered to be a sibling galaxy to his Andromeda galaxy. His death has him emotionally reunite with The Creator whom he absorbed into his galaxy due to not wanting him to leave.
    • He always had a special sentiment towards the Milky Way galaxy that Yudias holds that he outright describes as fondness and after his defeat and him giving up on prolonging his life he ceased being a threat and instead provided warnings and important information. It's also implied that he cares about and values the lives of his fellow Velgearians despite his questionable actions with him expressing sadness at the discovered finiteness of their lifespans and being apologetic about his research not being able to save their species.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: While he successfully exploited Yudias' character for his plans there are still limits to his mostly accurate understanding of Yudias. He assumed that Yudias was trying to defeat him in a counter attack the moment he tried to take over the duel from Yudias against Yuhi instead of Yudias trying to reach a deeper part of his heart to understand him and believed that Yudias foresaw Yuhi's defeat because of his trap card instead of realizing the trust Yudias had in Yuhi. Later he gets caught off guard by Yudias being willing to offer his body to save Kuaidul's life despite everything he's done and him trying to take Yudias' body over. This is in spite of him having observed Yudias for a long time and having been there when The Creator created Yudias.
  • Forced Transformation: Can do this to other people to turn them into cards and/or cats with him having first done that with Nyandestar to see if he could create something like Rush Duels himself though he wasn't able to tell if he actually succeeded at the time due to a lack of direct familiarity with the game. This is notably how Nyandestar escaped her frozen planet and got to Earth since Kuaidul took her card with him on his journey to Earth as a stowaway on Zaida Velgear and lost the card when Zaida Velgear collided with Yuga's space shuttle that just arrived via time travel.
  • Galactic Conqueror: After turning everyone in Mutsuba Town into his cards the rest of the Earth and then the universe would suffer the same fate.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He is actually responsible for all the events that led to both Zwijo and Yudias coming to Earth to look for Rush Duels and has been observing everything since then while also occasionally pulling the strings from behind the scenes.
  • Immortals Fear Death: He at least used to think that he was immortal but found out that he was Long-Lived instead. It turns out that he was planning to take over Yudias' body by fusing the galaxies within them that contain their consciousnesses and memories together as a method to extend his life. When it fails to work due to him being too late he takes it pretty well though.
  • Kryptonite Factor: He has access to technology that can fire Anti-Kartumata beams which he has also supplied to the MIK for the beginning of Season 2.
  • The Magic Poker Equation: Considering the fact his deck is made of everyone's signature cards along with being assembled in a rush, it is almost entirely comprised of high-level monsters with only a few spell and trap cards with Zwijo outright stating that the only reason he beat Yudias was due to lucky draws. He is aware of this and focuses his time on rebuilding his deck to prepare for his second duel against Yudias.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Kuaidul was the one who made Phaser and the Maximum Monsters turn people into cards and was also the one to brainwash people with the Darkness Monsters.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Kuaidul's 1st act of his plan was to control Phaser and MIK with the distribution of the Maximum Monsters so that he could control people by turning them into cards. His next act was brainwashing various duelists with the Darkness Monsters during the Galaxy Cup. Overall, Kuaidul also used Yudias to befriend as many people and aliens as possible so that he could control the universe.
  • Meaningful Name: The "Kuai"-part of his name sounds like the Chinese word for quick or fast and combined with the "dul"-part comes quite close to Rush Duel in regards to sound and literal meaning. This fits with The Creator constantly having Rush Duels in mind, so there is evidence that could be used to speculate that this was intentional.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: He has a moment where he initially claims to Yuhi after his defeat in a defensive manner that he doesn't have something like a heart. When Yuhi points his unintentional tears out to him he responds by saying that he sealed his heart away with him specifically remembering the day of him preventing his master's departure.
  • Sacrificial Lion: An Alas, Poor Villain example, his death signals that all Velgearians will soon meet their end.
  • Secretly Dying: By the time of the final confrontation within the Kuaidul Space-Time Kuaidul is reaching the end of his natural lifespan.
  • Signature Mon: Transamu Praime Armor Nova is identified as this for Kuaidul. Given that Kuaidul identifies Transamu Rainac as holding the Milky Way galaxy like Yudias the same is presumably the case with Transamu Praime Armor Nova and the Andromeda galaxy given that it and Transamu Rainac were used for Transamu Praime Full Armor Nova to represent the fusion between the two galaxies of Yudias and Kuaidul.
  • Super Prototype: Kuaidul is the first Velgearian and Kartumata created by The Creator and has a multitude of powers that are not shared by other Velgearians or Kartumata.
  • Technologically Advanced Foe: With his access to the relic which has appeared in Sevens and is revealed in Go Rush to have various abilities like resurrecting killed Velgearians, the technology he supplied to the MIK and the results of his research for his Kartios Project he can be classified as this. His research proves valuable for the cast after his death to deal with the possible extinction of the Velgearians though it later turns out to have several caveats in that regard which is why he stopped researching Monster Reborn.
  • Third-Person Person: He talks like this on occasion due to apparently having a habit to do some narrating which notably also happened on an occasion where he was alone.
  • Xanatos Gambit: It didn't matter whether Yudias or Yuhi (who took over the duel for Zwijo) won the tournament in the end since while the Darkness cards he put in Yudias were acting as a Red Herring, he also discreetly tricked Phaser into putting "Jointech Nestrider Tank" into his deck, which in reality is a disguised Darkness card.
