An aquatic demon who goes on land in search of his mother, unwittingly causing humans to drown themselves in the process.
  • Brown Note: He uses a magical horn to call out to his mother, but the sound also causes humans to walk into the sea.
  • Character Catchphrase: Haha-ue
  • Dem Bones: His design becomes more skeletal in his Awakened form.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Averted in the Awakened form.
  • Facial Markings: Red marks below his eyes.
  • I Reject Your Reality: After his mother's death, he would keep deciding that some random woman was his mother and mind control them into walking into the sea. After they drown themselves to death, he then abandons them for being useless. He subconsciously knows what is really happening, but refuses to accept it and repeatedly kills women to fuel his obsession. Eventually, the heroes provide him with a method to communicate with her dead soul, satisfying him.
  • Making a Splash: As expected of an aquatic demon.
  • Momma's Boy: This guy's defining characteristic. You can make a drinking game out of the number of times he says haha-ue. His entire character and character arc revolve around his desire to reunite with his mother.
  • Percent Damage Attack: Zigzagged, and in an interestingly-uncommon fashion. Bakekujira's Teeth Armor summons a huge whale to crash down on all enemies on the other side when the protected ally moves, dealing damage equal to 12% of their max HP that ignores all defense and doesn't trigger mitama or passive effects, and capped at 100% of said ally's ATK. The catch is, Teeth Armor always deals this same amount of damage to a given enemy regardless of how much health they have left.
  • Summon Bigger Fish: His third skill summons a giant phantasmal whale that hits the entire opposing team. His second skill once cast over a teammate also summons said whale which attacks once said teammate's finished performing a move.

I told you, I hate bustling places.
A bird with extremely poisonous yet beautiful feathers.
  • Artificial Stupidity: After her AI was patched to not spam Poison Erosion by default when on Auto, Chin does stack feathers quite regularly, though the problem arises in a different manner. Now, whenever an enemy is close to death, Chin will focus on that one, and attack them with Poison Erosion instead of continuing to apply feathers, resulting in very low damage output and the existing stacks expiring very quickly.
  • Bird People: Or so we're told. She's the least bird-like of all the Bird People in the game.
  • Boring, but Practical: Chin is very easy to build, and for massive gains. Due to the mechanics of her Feathers, Chin doesn't rely on Crit and Crit DMG like many other DPS mains, though having both is appreciated. What she does need is just a lot of raw ATK damage, lots and lots of it, as well as having her second skill maxed out. All you need to do after that is slap a 4-piece mitama set on her and spam her second ability until the enemy stops moving. If they're still alive, keep spamming.
    • What's even more insidious about Chin's poison, is that it counts as Indirect Damage, and so couldn't be proc defensive passives, Shōzu's Synchronization, Hakuzōsu's Damage Reduction, or mitama effects, and the one skill that she uses to blanket your entire team with feathers doesn't normally deal any damage by itself, making it nigh-impossible to launch counter-attacks unless she hits your shikigami with her basic attack, which she probably wouldn't.
    • Due to the nature of her kit, Chin is effectively immune to skill or passive sealingnote , as she could still do a lot of damage by stacking feathers manually with her basic attack. While certain spells could render her second skill unusable, they cannot seal its effects, so stacking more than 5 feathers on an enemy still hurts like hell. Not even sealing her mitama does anything other than momentarily inconveniencing her a bit, since only the set's passive effects are affected, not the bonus stats they give, therefore still leaving Chin with enough ATK for the poison procs to scale with.
  • Damage Over Time: Poison damage is her specialty.
  • Everybody Calls Him "Barkeep": "Chin" is not her name, but rather her species. According to her bio, her mother is a Chin as well, and possesses poisonous feathers accordingly.
  • Gathering Steam: Playing Chin the "right way" basically involves you trying to accumulate as many Feather stacks on your enemies as possible, either through her basic and second skill, or through enemies hitting her themselves. At one or two stacks, the power is fairly unimpressive, but at 5 and with her second skill maxed, Chin could hit for purely obscene amounts of damage.
    • Typically, a fully-kitted Tamamo-no-Mae could theoretically hit for somewhere around 16,000 and change damage if Critical. Chin on the other hand could potentially hit twice as hard just from normal attacks alone on a good day, and even more if it happens to Crit. Her poison also ignores most forms of protection, making her even more powerful than some heavy-hitter SSRs if used right.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: As Feather layers are applied on contact in addition to being manually stacked, enemies who attack Chin will unwittingly subject themselves to more and more poison with each blow. At skill level 5, Chin could very much guarantee a massive blow on an enemy with maxed stack just by standing there and having them attack her.
    • Chin has an interesting dynamic with Mannendake for this sole reason. Upon her poison damaging his shielded allies, Mannendake would repeatedly hit Chin and accumulate feather stacks on himself, gradually wearing him down with the poison procs until either party dies. If Chin is well-protected, Mannendake will die, and vice versa.
  • Percent Damage Attack: Her other specialty and what makes her such a powerful choice, especially after buffs. With enough stacks of her poison, Chin will do huge amounts of damage to high HP targets like Orochi every turn, although each tick is capped to 280% of her maximum attack. Rank 5 of her Poisonous Beauty causes enemies who already have the maximum number of poison stacks to take an immediate burst of damage (30% of their max HP) whenever an excess stack is applied, leading people to run team comps with multiple copies of Chin to inflict this more often.
  • Poisonous Person: Is described as this; anyone who touches her beautiful feathers will die from the poison. During actual gameplay, many of her abilities deal lasting poison damage, and enemies who hit her gain stacks of Feather, which causes Damage Over Time, tons of it in fact.
  • Story And Gameplay Integration: Chins themselves are not immune to their own toxins. Her mother once warned her not to pick up the feather that she shed, and Chins on opposite teams can poison each other during gameplay.
  • Technicolor Toxin: Her feathers, whose beauty indicates toxicity.
  • Touch of Death: She can't get close to anyone including relatives because of her lethal poison.
Chin: If you don't want to die, don't touch me.
  • Uncanny Valley Makeup: Massively oversized eyebrows and thick eyelashes. This is absent when Awakened.
  • Useless Useful Spell: Poison Erosion deals increasing damage depending on the amount of Feather layers the victim has. It also wipes the stacks clean, making it so that the enemy no longer suffers from Damage Over Time, which is Chin's true strength.
    • Although if you use it on a fully-stacked enemy it does do a massive single burst of damage (420% of her ATK), making it good as a finisher. This is a gamble, however, as if you overestimate your Chin's ATK relative to the enemy's remaining HP, you'll be left at a disadvantage if Poison Erosion does not finish them off. This is especially dangerous when fighting enemies whose power scales inversely proportional to their remaining HP, such as Kuro-dōji, who is at his peak when only having a bare sliver of HP left and could proc a counter from Poison Erosion, unlike Poisonous Beauty which deals Indirect Damage.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: As powerful as her poison is, Chin is easily defended against if the enemy puts up shields. Any kind of shield would do, in fact, as the poison damage subtracts from the shield's own HP first, and will only hurt your shikigami if broken.
  • You Are Already Dead: Enemies who are stuck with Chin's feathers will take damage at the start of their turn. If they're weak enough, they might as well drop dead. If you see 5 stacks of Feathers above any of your team members, and either they or Chin are up next on the move bar, you'd better pray you have a shield on, or worse yet, enough HP to survive.
    • Because of this, Chin is the literal bane of shikigami who likes to spam counter attacks such as Mannendake and Inugami, especially the former, due to the Feather layers being refunded ad infinitum as they hit her again and again. At skill level 5, this means the enemy involuntarily throw away 30% of their max HP with each hit. Becomes downright hilarious when used against Mannendake, as his hit count depends on the amount of his teammates struck by her poison, which caps at 6, so there's nothing the other player could do except watch him melting himself to death from the damage. Onikiri is the sole exception to this in most cases, as his passive allows him to burst through Chin's defensive options and eliminate her before she could do much harm.

Specialty: DPS (Kessen!)
A demon who utilizes eyes. Lots of them. Thanks to them, she is able to learn of Tamamo no Mae's daughter's demise and is intent on finding out more about it.
  • Anachronism Stew: Ooh so many.
    • While the Dōmeki is indeed a yōkai from the Heian era, her Dub Name Change in the EN version, Dodomeki, is not (see Sadly Mythtaken below). It is also an invention of the Edo era, several centuries later.
    • Dōmeki herself commits a few, in the way she refers to the dates in her bio. All of the months in her three bios are referred to using modern conventions instead of the names appropriate for the era (e.g. March being "sangatsu" instead of "Yayoi"). The current method of naming months only became widespread starting from, once again, the Edo period.
  • Deadly Gaze: Her special skill. Anyone cursed by it will have their mana-consuming skills turn into an attack against them.
  • Eye Motifs: She is the demon of the hundred eyes, after all.
  • Eye Spy: She can view the memories of the deceased via magical eyes. Upon learning that Mae's daughter is still content after having been brutally slain, she inserts the eye containing her memory into her own eye socket to learn more about her past.
  • Faceless Eye: In her backstory PV, it seems she has tons of them.
  • Morton's Fork: Cursed Eye forces this on the opponent, cursing the entire team to replace their orb-consuming skills with Evil Light. If any shiki uses Evil Light it will be removed from the entire team, but that shiki will still lose their action as well as taking a very strong hit (211% of Domeki's ATK), as well as having to pay 3 orbs as the cost of Evil Light once she's evolved. Do you have the first shiki to act take the hit for the rest of the team, restrict them to attacking normally to pass the buck down the line for a more-expendable shiki to take, or just wait it out using nothing but basic attacks until the debuff expires? Either way, it hurts. However, there is hope – this skill does not work when the opposite team is under Seimei's Deflector Shield.
  • Mystical White Hair: In her base skin. It turns black once she evolves.
  • Sadly Mythtaken: Her Dub Name Change in the EN version of the game, Dodomeki, actually refers to another entity altogether. Dodomeki, or sometimes read as "Todomeki", is an unrelated folktale about a kleptomaniac young girl who was punished for her thievery by having hundreds of birds' eyes popping up across her body, one for every coin she stole. It was created as a joke yōkai, as are most other characters invented by Toriyama Sekien, an 18th century poet.

The Hair Eater's older sister, a kind woman with a sadistic streak.
  • Anachronism Stew: She walks around holding a kiseru when it was not created yet.
  • Cool Big Sister: Gives off this impression in general, not only to her biological brother but also to other people she's close to, like Kingyo-hime.
  • Forced Transformation: Once Awakened, she can randomly turn enemies into smoke-like monsters, making them lose a turn in this form.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: In the Kessen! High School AU as a chemistry teacher, accompanied by lab goggles to complete the sexy scientist look.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Dresses provocatively and makes suggestive noises, especially when defeated.
  • Sadist: "Oh, looks like you want to be tormented."
  • Shared Family Quirks: She and her brother both smoke.
  • Shipper on Deck: Is supportive of her brother's affection toward Seimei and is willing to help him win Seimei's affection.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Has an elegant kiseru.
  • Splash Damage: Her special skill.

  • No-Sell: If Fūri isn't disabled by a CC effect when he's hit by a basic attack, he has a 10% (40% max) chance of negating all damage dealt by that hit, as well as gaining a 40% (100% max) resistance to Crits for two turns.
  • Shear Menace: His weapon in his 1st skin becomes a pair of spring scissors.
  • Talking Animal
  • Why Am I Ticking?: His special ability throws a bomb at one of his enemies. It behaves as a mark, similar to Yamakaze's Shred, and deals a moderate amount of direct damage upfront, followed by a burst of indirect damage when it expires or is removed.

The guardian of a chest full of treasures.
  • Barrier Warrior: Can generate damage-absorbing bubbles for teammates after their turns.
  • Hime Cut: In the default skin.
  • Living Toys: She's actually a doll or marionette, at least in her pre-evolved form. You can see the joints at her knees and wrists, although they disappear once evolved, suggesting she's Become a Real Girl somehow.
  • MacGuffin: What exactly do the treasures in her chest do?
  • Mystical White Hair: Default skin only.
  • Status Buff: Her specialty. She can randomly give any and every buffs; increased attack, defense, speed… you name it.
  • Status Effects: If randomly granting buffs isn't badass enough, she can also give debuffs to enemies who have attacked her, barring those that render the enemies unable to perform a move (such as Stun, Freezing or Forced Sleep).

A talented wolf kyūdō practitioner who used to be Seimei's shikigami and has feelings for Hiromasa.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Is clearly in love with Hiromasa, but he is unfortunately Oblivious to Love.
  • Arch-Enemy: Possibly Kubinashi. She faces him directly in the story and employing her to defeat players using him in PvP 20 times is required to unlock her first recollection.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The reason for her crush on Hiromasa is that he saved her in the past.
  • Bodyguard Babes: Along with Yoto-hime and Yuki-Onna towards Seimei. A stunning wolf demon Yokai who once served under him. Like Yoto-hime, she still calls him "Master" even when being already out of contract with him.
  • Cherry Blossoms: Her second skin.
  • Cool Big Sis: She, and to a lesser extent Yōtō-hime, is this to Hotaru-gusa. She then allows the latter to join her adventures.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Saying Hotaru-gusa fawns over her is an understatement.
  • Fangirl: She herself is one to Hiromasa. Her admiration for his marksmanship inspired her to take up archery in the first place.
  • Lady of War: A competent fighter with a composed and dignified personality.
  • Love Interest: Hiromasa.
  • Noble Wolf: A courteous and heroic wolf demon.
  • Ship Tease: The fact that she has a crush on Hiromasa is not subtle at all. This is lampshaded by Yaobikuni.
  • White Wolves Are Special: She plays the trope straight down to her name.

Life and death are mine to decide.
A blind Afterworld official deciding who gets to live and who has to die. He is the subordinate of Enma.
  • Abled in the Adaptation: The MOBA game makes his blindness even more of an Informed Attribute, as an animation loop has him looking around in search for something.
  • Berserk Button: Don't disrespect Enma or else!
  • Beleaguered Assistant: Sometimes it is Enma herself who gives him headaches.
  • Blind Weaponmaster: His being blind does not stop him from being badass.
  • Celestial Bureaucracy: He only ranks lower than Enma.
  • Covert Pervert: Enma promising to grant his "greatest wish" if he guides the heroes in chapter 23 makes him positively giddy, but after a moment of excitement he seems to be overcome with embarrassment and guilt, suggesting that his "greatest wish" was something only Enma could grant...
Hangan: The reward that I want... that is... No, no... How could I have such ridiculous ideas...? Please forgive me, Lady Enma! I should punish myself, and send myself to the lowest level of the Underworld for this.
  • Delayed Explosion: His special skill, in which he gives each member of the opposite team a huge character for "death". Said character has a chance of exploding and dealing damage when an affected enemy's next turn arrives.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: One moment he's talking calmly to someone and the next he's already yelling at them.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: His first skin, for crying out loud! The upper half of his body is separated from the lower half, floating over it while a glowing ball of energy is situated between the two body halves. Nightmare Fuel much?
  • His Name Really Is "Barkeep": His name translates to "Judge".
  • Ignored Enamoured Underling: He seems to be completely smitten with Enma, although he's absolutely consumed with guilt and self-loathing any time he dares to think of her as a woman in any way (such as wondering whether she might have wanted children of her own after she invites a bunch of children to her palace). For Enma's part, she mainly enjoys teasing him because she thinks he's too serious.
  • Inspector Javert: Zigzagged. He arrests Seimei under Enma's order and is fully convinced that he's a terrible guy who commits hideous crimes. He does none of that shit himself, but his Literal Split Personality does; then again, said split personality wouldn't have existed had Seimei not committed an act of soul-splitting sin, so maybe Hangan was right after all.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy
  • Mystical White Hair: His hair stays white in all of his skins.
  • Only Sane Man: Is one for the Afterworld. He takes his job even more seriously than Enma.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: In chapter 23, he briefly acts like an excited little boy when Enma promises to reward him whatever he wants.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Has a moment of this in episode 23. After Enma offers to give him whatever he wants if he agrees to be the heroes' guide, he practically jumps with joy and continues to act very hyper for the next few minutes. The heroes save Seimei are shocked.
    Kagura: He's all pumped up.
    Kohaku: Better not touch him.
  • The Pen Is Mightier: His weapon is an oversized brush which he uses to either throw ink at enemies or etch the word "death" onto them. Fans often imagine him having some sort of rivalry going on with fellow brush wielder Shoyō.
  • Samurai: He fits this archetype in all but weapon, being loyal to his "lord" (Enma) and using sessha, the typical first-person pronoun for samurai.
  • Samurai Ponytail: Type 1.
  • Shinigami: His job is different from the Mujō brothers': he passes death judgement on people.
  • Shout-Out: A possible one to Death Note when he says he owns a "dead-people notebook."
  • Spell My Name With An S: Hiromasa pronounces his name "Hankan".
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: He doesn't have pupils, but is often depicted as having these in fan arts.
  • Undying Loyalty: Displays an almost samurai-like devotion to Enma.

A demon child with a Friendless Background who is then betrayed by the only person nice to him, and now just wants to play.
  • Bishōnen Line: Quite a literal case at that. He says in his autobiography that he once looked as ugly as his mask before he is the adorable boy we see now.
  • Cool Mask: Because he's Hannya, not only does he have a mask on his forehead, he also has a huge one behind his back.
  • Creepy Child: A little boy begging you to play with him sounds cute at first, but when you realize he's the same kid tossing creepy masks at you and scratching you while still talking in that cheerful tone of voice…
  • Friendless Background: He had no friends because he looked as ugly as his mask. He managed to be friends with a human who was nice to him until
  • Gender Flip: The hannya is a demoness mask, used to represent women who turn into demons out of jealousy.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: He was betrayed by the only friend he made in his childhood. This eventually causes him to lose any trust in humans entirely.
  • Stance System: He has two basic attack modes, a default single missile attack that disables mitama, or a close-quarter multiple attack that deals great damage. He temporarily switches from the former to the latter after casting his special skill.
  • Status-Buff Dispel: When he casts a normal missile attack (throws masks) or executes his special skill (summon a giant mask that hits the entire opposite team), opponents have a chance of acquiring a debuff that prevents their mitama effects from being triggered.

Voiced by: Suzuko Mimori (JP), Zhao Shuang (CN, Kessen!), Cassandra Lee Morris (EN, Kessen!)
ID: 297 (original game), 1067 (Kessen!)
Role: Support (Kessen!)
Specialty: Heal, Control (Kessen!)
A young female yōkai who only goes outside when it is sunny. She is sometimes even afraid of her own conjured imagination.
  • Achilles' Heel: Hiyoribō's selling point is her Auto-Revive skill, which instantly brings back a slain ally on top of giving everybody a moderate heal. This is a lot less airtight than the skill description would have you believe, as the revive is random if many shikigami are killed at once. It can also be easily gamed by purposefully killing off a non-vital target first, such as weak pullers, to coax Hiyoribō into wasting her revive and rendering her incapable of healing off any damage dealt afterwards, and then doubling down on the actual important targets, like powerful DPS shikigami that could cause a lot of headache if they were to move. It also does not work on herself, so busting Hiyoribō down first is also an option.
  • Auto-Revive: Part of what makes her such a popular pick is that when an ally dies, she revives them immediately. The drawback of this (aside from losing her passive healing while her teruteru-bōzu is on cooldown) is that, if multiple allies are killed at once, the one she revives is picked at random.
  • Awesome, but Impractical:
    • An Auto-Revive skill that instantly brings back a killed shikigami that you would otherwise need? Nice. An auto revive skill that also cannot choose which one to revive in the event many are killed at once, or the opponent deliberately killed off a weak one to game your passive, so you ended up reviving the wrong unit? Not very nice. That, and the fact that Hiyoribō needs to spend a teruteru-bōzu to revive, means she cannot heal anything after each use of this for as many as 4 turns. For such a strong passive on paper, Hiyoribō is very easy to sidestep if one knows what they're doing.
    • Despite her good utility, just using Hiyoribō alone isn't going to cut it. As it stands, she operates best in a Stone Wall turtle team, with Damage Reduction shikigami like Hakuzōsu protecting her and everyone else. This way, Hiyoribō can comfortably heal her teammates each turn while the enemy tries fruitlessly to crack through Hakuzōsu's protection, only to end up fueling her Nourishment instead.
  • Back from the Dead: Once a teammate is knocked out, her teruteru-bōzu can be sacrificed to bring them back (however, as with any other supportive resurrection skills, this cannot bring back an onmyōji). Once this happens she will no longer be able to perform her healing skill or resurrect again until the doll respawns, which takes 4 turns (or 3 once her skill is maxed).
  • Flower Motifs: Sunflowers.
  • Healing Hands: Her passive skill: when teammates are attacked, 25% of the damage will become energy stored in her teruteru-bōzu. When the enemy's turn is over, that energy goes to heal the team member with the lowest HP. Her special skill allows her to store 25% of her HP into the doll and then heal the entire team. She can no longer do this when the doll has been sacrificed to revive a team member.
  • Lovable Coward: Apparently she is afraid of her own imagination, as stated in her introduction.
  • The Power of the Sun: In case you couldn't tell.
  • Sunny Sunflower Disposition: Plays this dead straight as a sweet-tempered girl with healing sun-based powers.
  • Teru-Teru Bōzu: Her Iconic Item and what she uses to store her sun energy.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: As a passive healer (like Sakura), she's very vulnerable to sealing effects like Hannya, which prevents her from storing energy in her teruteru-bōzu or expending it to heal. However, she can still revive a defeated ally, as this part of her kit is tied to her Nourishment active skill, not her Sunshine and Rain passive, and can still manually store energy with Nourishment's active.

An rather bony woman who is obssessed with vengeance.
  • Adaptational Attractiveness: She's a bit creepy-looking but still pretty sexy- certainly compared to the mythological hone-onna who appears as a beautiful woman only in the eyes of her lover, to hide the fact that in reality she's a decaying corpse!
  • Adaptational Skimpiness: Her kimono is much shorter in Kessen!
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: Her special skill 'Triple Slash' ignores 40% of the target's defence.
  • Bad with the Bone: She has a bone sword.
  • Back from the Dead: Her passive skill. Every time she receives damage, she will get a "bone seal" buff. When 4 seals have been gathered, she will regain 20% of her HP upon being defeated.
  • Back Stab: Her special skill's routine has her teleporting to behind an enemy and repeatedly slash them.
  • Dem Bones: Based on the mythological hone-onna, however this version has some differences from the one in mythology.
  • Luck-Based Mission: Her second bio unlock is one of the hardest to complete in the game. You have to get 30 of her shards from the Demon Parade (15 hits, since as an SR she gives 2 shards per hit), which isn't much of a challenge for the other shikis who have this condition, but despite being an SR Hone Onna is ultra-rare in the Demon Parade, even moreso than SSRs or SPs- you'll be lucky to see her even once every 20-30 runs, and even when she does appear the way Demon Parade worksnote  means she can easily end up being impossible to hit when she does. To add insult to injury, there's no reason to collect her shards in the Demon Parade other than for this bio unlock, as she's one of the shikis you can fight in Demon Force zones to collect shards of much more easily.
  • The Oldest Profession: The way her kimono is tied with the bow at the front rather than the back (for ease of removal) suggests she may actually have once been a courtesan. Her sexy off-the-shoulder kimono supports it further.

  • Status Effects: Hoshigumadōji's kit is entirely based around Confuse- his skill can inflict it on the entire enemy team, his next basic attack after using said skill can inflict it as well, if he attacks a Confused enemy he provokes them to attack immediately, his unique debuff makes Confused units go for his victim instead of attacking a random target (and when evolved the target can be made to attack back if struck by one of their own allies), his passive gives him a chance to block basic attacks and apply Confuse to any enemy whose attack it blocks, and it not only speeds him up whenever an enemy either recovers from (10%) or is cured of (20%) Confuse, it also makes him outright immune to Confuse himself! It's a very single-minded kit.

Embodiment of the phoenix fire and inhabitant of the Hōōrin.
  • Fiery Redhead: Becomes this when Awakened.
  • Lady of Black Magic: A beautiful woman in a phoenix-themed kimono with damaging flame skills.
  • Ms. Fanservice: A milder example than most, but she's an attractive woman with fire-controlling abilities.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: Her Awakened form has a practically-bare front, covered by a very, very small top.
  • Playing with Fire: She's the phoenix fire, so this is a given. She either shoots single fire missiles or multi-target fire blasts.
  • Pyromaniac: She randomly sets creatures on fire to test the flames of life within them.
  • Supernatural Repellent: She cannot approach the immortal Yaobikuni as her flames of life have long been extinguished but the person is still alive and kicking. She ends up asking Seimei to remove the unwelcome freeloader in her home.

He is supposedly loyal to Seimei after the latter helps him avenge the death of his Sparrow, but hasn't been seen again after episode 2.
  • Blade Spam: When his special skill is executed, he runs at a blinding speed among the opposite team. The enemies receive damage after this routine.
  • Chef of Iron: His third skin turns him into a sushi chef with a grilled fish in place of his sword, but he still battles just fine.
  • Cherry Blossoms: Receives an outfit with this theme in his skin.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Many characters suffer from this, but Inugami deserves a special mention for sticking with the heroes for the first two episodes and vanishing from the story without explanation since.
    • He unexpectedly reappeared during the Kimodameshi event as the 5th member of the group to take part.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: And boy is he good at it. See Blade Spam above.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: In the first episode, he tries to kill Seimei, thinking that he let Kohaku eat his sparrow.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Smokes a kiseru when Awakened.
  • Starter Villain: Played with. While he himself is not a villain, Inugami is the first monster the player must fight in the tutorial.

A cloth demon who had encounters in the past with the lover of Nōkanshi.
  • Arch-Enemy: Possibly Okuribito/Nokanshi- they both cared for the same young girl, but after she was killed Ittan-Momen took her soul and merged it with her own, while Okuribito took her body and attempted to revive her via Deal with the Devil, leading them to come to blows when they meet.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Okuribito's lover helped her escape when she was being chased by humans, leading her to promise to protect the girl. After she failed, she took the girl's soul into herself and took brutal vengeance on her killers.
  • Big "NO!": A non-verbal one, but the low growl she releases as her savior dies in her arms is clearly intended to be this.
  • Blindfolded Vision: Has strips of cloth over her eyes in both forms, but isn't stated to be blind.
  • Cloth Fu: Her defining characteristic.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Only her right leg is bound in cloth, while her left is bare.
  • Merger of Souls: After she was unable to protect the girl she cared for, she freed her soul and merged it with her own to care for her for eternity.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: The girl she cared for was killed by her foster family, despite Ittan-Momen swearing to protect her. Ittan-Momen's revenge was gruesome.

  • Mother of a Thousand Young: The innumerable monsters that keep spawning and giving the heroes a hard time in episode 22? They're all her kids.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Of the grotesque type. Considering who she's voiced by, it isn't that surprising.
  • Spider Swarm: Her special attack in which she throws a bunch of spiders at the opposite team.

A demonic Ninja.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Kainin's real left arm was severed when her clan went berserk. For better details, look under Sole Survivor below.
  • Anachronism Stew: Considering the game is set in the Heian period, which is before ninja even existed
  • BFS: Carries what appears to be an ōdachi on her back.
  • Blade Spam: Explained in better detail under Gathering Steam.
  • Expy: She looks like a refugee from Naruto, particularly thanks to the metal-plated forehead protector she wears in her base form. More specifically, her base form looks quite a lot like either Mitarashi Anko or Yuuhi Kurenai (particularly with the red eyes), while her evolved form with the short white hair and the mouth-covering masks both forms wear strongly resemble common Rule 63 renditions of Hatake Kakashi (although it's the unevolved form that has her left eye covered up like Kakashi usually does). Extraneous limbs notwithstanding, of course.
  • Fake Longevity: See Mannendake's entry, because she has the same cost. Although Kainin is a downplayed instance, as she can sometimes be bought as a (upper-mid tier) prize during major storyline events.
  • Gathering Steam: Kainin's regular attacks can be rather boring, all things considered. However, her basic attacks can accrue stacks of Weakness on enemies, which reduce their DEF. If she hits an enemy with three stacks, Kainin consumes all of their marks and her basic attack becomes like that of Onikiri instead, striking every member of the other team, dealing high damage on top of ignoring passives and mitama effects.
    • To make things even more aggravating, an upgraded Kainin has a 30% chance of hitting an enemy four times with her basic attack, thus all but guaranteeing a Weakness proc per turn. If all Weakness stacks on a given target are consumed before she can finish her combo, she will move to another and reset her hit counter, much like Yōtō-hime, but even more broken. Assuming she also consumes all stacks on that next target, Kainin will switch again and the cycle continues. If left unchecked, she can wipe everyone out by her lonesome. The final upgrade tier of her passive also lets her tag an enemy with Weakness after their turn finishes, so if your team doesn't have debuff cleansers, you would want to burst her down fast, otherwise she alone would be the end of you.
  • Highly-Visible Ninja: Let's face it, her Stripperific outfit, especially her mostly white Awakened color scheme, isn't the most stealthy on Earth.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Yes and no. Kainin technically only has one arm remaining, as her real left was cut off due to circumstances noted under Sole Survivor. Practically, she has 4 left arms, that are tangible "shadows" of her deceased clan members, all striking in accordance to her will. One of them is extremely hard to see because she's holding one of her swords with two hands, meaning it's hidden behind another one and can only been seen by rotating her model.
  • Ninja
  • Only Known By Her Nickname: "Kainin" is what she tells others to call her. Her actual name was lost to time since before she even became a Ninja.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her one uncovered eye in her base form is red. Once evolved, she instead has a pair of Icy Blue Eyes.
  • Spam Attack: Her schtick is hitting a single target repeatedly with her basic attack to stack up Weakness marks on it; once it reaches 3 she unleashes a team-wide attack similar to the last strike of Onikiri's passivenote . As a result, her passive gives her a chance to repeatedly hit the same target several times in a row, up to 4 times once maxed out, allowing her to unleash a veritable flurry of blows.
  • Sole Survivor: Of her old ninja clan. It's because somebody tampered with the binding ritual that would instill them with Undying Loyalty, that they went berserk and started killing everyone else. As Kainin alone remained sane, due to her own ritual being interrupted, she had to put them all down before she blacked out.
  • Temporary Online Content: Is one of the shikigami that can only be bought at the shrine using tickets, though unlike the likes of Mannendake and Ninmenju, Kainin is sometimes available for point exchange during certain events.

  • Creepy Child
  • Creepy Doll: Both herself and "big brother".
  • Creepy Monotone: Seriously, try listening to her voice and not get chills.

  • Lonely Doll Girl: Which explains her devastation when "big brother" is deactivated.
Kairaishi: Big brother and I are always together.
  • Percent Damage Attack: Her passive grants her a 20% chance of dealing damage equal to 10% of her victim's max HP on hit.
  • Puppet Permutation: According to her autobiography (not narrated by herself, by the way), she was made into this.
  • Marionette Master: She controls her giant marionette to perform attacks.

Three constantly bickering weasel brothers. The eldest Ichitarō (top) is the most talkative and arrogant who often dishes out verbal abuse at youngest Santarō (bottom), while the middle Nitarō rarely talks at all.
  • Artificial Stupidity: A common quirk shared with Yamausagi. Despite their passive free turns, Kamaitachi when left to their own devices on Auto will seemingly pull only whenever they feel like it most of the time. This is despite the fact that subsequent pulls in their free turns will advance their team along the move bar that makes it easier to win fights. This is most commonly observable in the Orochi soul zones, where Kamaitachi will many times outright refuse to pull even if it's their turn and they have more than enough orbs to do so.
    • On the one hand, both Kamaitachi and Yamausagi will always pull on the first action at least. On the other hand, sometimes Kamaitachi's passive will trigger multiple times in a row, causing them to randomly pull and pull and pull until they run out of orbs, even when the team can't be sped up any more than it already is, leaving the rest of the team out of resources (not helped by the fact that Kamaitachi has the most expensive pull skill of all the pullers, tied with Menreiki who is more of a DPS than a pure puller).
  • Big Brother Bully: Ichitarō to the other two, especially Santarō.
  • Bishōnen Line: One of their skins turns them into three cute boys with animal ears.
  • Family Theme Naming: They are literally numbered one to three in descending order of age, with Ichitarō (one) being the eldest, Nitarō (two) being the middle sibling, and Santarō (three) being the youngest. They are arranged in a Totem Pole Trench in this exact order.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Santarō is the Responsible to Ichitarō's Foolish. The former even points out to the latter that he is in no place to get mad at him when it is Ichitarō who handed out all his money to Tesso.
  • Noodle Implements: Their secret skin changes their weapons to a grilled squid, a Paper Fan of Doom and a lantern.
  • Only Sane Man: Nitarō, who isn't cocky like his older brother or picked on as much as his younger.
  • Super-Empowering: They can bump up their team's turns as well as increase everyone's attack force.
  • Talking Animal
  • Totem Pole Trench: Three weasels standing on top of one another, covered by a robe.

  • Art Attacker: Like Kachōfūgetsu, Kamimai is literally a painting that came to life through sheer force of will and affection for the painter who illustrated her. In her case, though, Kamimai gained form by creasing and folding herself origami-style.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Kamimai appeared as a significant character in the Castle of the Sun story before her release as a playable shikigami. Seimei and his friends even fight and defeat her as part of the story, only for the battle to be skipped over entirely, presumably because she wasn't coded in the game yet.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Kamimai was given the choice to leave the "Groundhog Day" Loop that's been afflicting her homeland, in order to seek out the artist she loved. However, she believed he had already gotten married, and felt that her presence would ruin his happiness, so she decided to stay. That, and because she doesn't want to see him happily painting with someone else. A later conversation reveals he's been Dead All Along.

  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: Kani-hime cannot measure her own strength, and will hit and daze herself with her special ability if not pre-empted by a basic attack.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Kani-hime is one of the tiniest and cutest little girl shikis in the game, but she's capable of doing massive damage to the entire enemy team with her Shell Hammer- up 322% of her ATK, which is huge for an AoE skillnote .
  • Red Right Hand: Left hand, actually; while she (in her base form at least) appears to be an adorable young girl, her left hand is a large crab claw. Bonus points for it actually being red.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Sasori. The two of them butt heads over whether Otakemaru or Suzuka Gozen is the real leader of the Sealand yokai.
  • Stop Hitting Yourself: Unless "primed" with a basic attack, Kani-hime will conk herself on the head with her special ability and become dazed for 1 turn. Her crab shell hardens to protect her if her special is maxed out, however, so it's not all bad.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Otakemaru, at least partly implied to be because of a Precocious Crush she has on him.

  • Like Brother and Sister: She is this to Yamakaze, who reminds her of her deceased biological brother.
  • Self-Harm: Think Yamakaze's Family-Unfriendly Violence battle scene followed by his eating himself not scary enough? How about the immediate following scene where Kaoru stabs herself and offers herself as food to him in order to stop him from eating himself?
  • Was Once a Man: She was a human who died devoured by Yamakaze. He later used forbidden arts to bring her back to life as a demon.

Let me eat you to preserve my beauty, okay?
A sexy man-eating oni girl who earns the ire of Ibaraki-dōji for breaking Shuten-dōji's heart and who falls head-over-heels for Seimei.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: Is this to Seimei. What makes it even creepier is that he has only briefly talked to her once.
  • Action Bomb: She turns her enemies into these. Every of her attack has a chance to tag an enemy with a stacking maple doll, and when one of these enemies die, their dolls will detonate and hit everyone else on their team for 50% of her ATK per stack.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Shuten-dōji's affection for her as well as hers for Seimei.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: She developed feelings for Seimei after he saved her from a group of monsters. And then she went ahead and fell in love with the wrong Seimei.
  • Bloodless Carnage: During a flashback, we see her eating flesh on screen, and the scene is much less gory than it should be. This is probably because of the game's limited animation.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She is jealous of Kagura for simply talking to "her" Seimei.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": "Kijo" is not part of her name- a kijo is the female equivalent of an oni (like succubus and incubus). Nobody ever addresses her in-game as "Kijo Momiji" and the English version drops it.
  • Face–Monster Turn: She was a quite decent human, if not somewhat vain, as seen in her first encounter with Seimei, before becoming the current grotesque man-eater by Kuro Seimei's doing.
  • Facial Horror: There are stitches on both sides of her mouth. Her Dark and Troubled Past, as revealed by her SP form explain why. Her father sold her to an Arranged Marriage, knowing full well she would be abandoned as soon as she outlived her usefulness and not caring whether she lived or died. Her fiance taunted her about it, so she ruined her face to end her marriage prospects out of spite.
  • Hime Cut: The hairstyle is spot-on, but the personality is way off.
  • Literal Maneater: This beautiful woman eats humans and makes no attempt to hide it. If anything, it makes her even more beautiful.
  • Love Interest: Of Seimei himself.
  • Love Triangle: Is part of one with Shuten-dōji and Seimei.
  • Magic Dance: Her special skill, "Deadly Dance".
  • Ms. Fanservice: In her base form; her kimono top borders on Navel-Deep Neckline and it's quite short, showing off her long, slender legs. Her evolved form and her skin are far more conservative.
  • Property of Love: Her bios is filled to the brim with this. She considers her body and her entire being to be Seimei's property. And according to one line, absolutely no one can touch them - again, except Seimei.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Seimei is the only love of her life.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: At the end of episode 11, Seimei seals her up and we do not hear from her since. Chapter 22 confirms that she is still sealed inside Seimei's robes. In the Final Advent arc, it is confirmed that Seimei himself had completely forgotten about her.
    • She shows up during the Tsukinohime Uber Boss event, fighting to hold her back alongside Shuten Doji and Ibaraki Doji, although the actual story canonicity of Uber Boss events is vague.
    • She finally returns in the Final Advent story event (apparently decanonising her previous appearance in the Tsukinohime event) when Dark Seimei steals her from within Seimei's seal. She recognises that Dark Seimei tricked her into committing terrible crimes and is angry at him over it, but is still scarily obsessed with having him and nearly sacrifices herself protecting him from one of Orochi's Nagas.
  • Yandere: At one point, she threatens to eat Kagura when the latter suggests that she knows Seimei personally.

A Bratty Half-Pint with body height issues who wishes to conquer the world.
  • Badass Adorable: If we set aside the fact that's she's such a brat.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: She longed to overthrow Lord Arakawa and take his place. When the yokai of Sealand invade and Lord Arakawa sacrifices himself to save his people, she's left in command of the survivors and forced to confront exactly how weak she really is.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Self-important and narcissistic little kid who believes she's the cutest in the world. She's even jealous of Koi-no-sei for being cuter than her.
  • Break the Haughty: Kingyo gets a sharp reality check when the yokai of Sealand invade her home in the Arakawa River. Completely overwhelmed, she's on the verge of being slain, only to be saved at the last second by the same Lord Arakawa she's always hated. Then, while Lord Arakawa sacrifices himself to hold the enemy off, Kingyo is put in charge of protecting the other spirits during their retreat, only to be ambushed and nearly killed again, making her realise how helpless she really is. Fortunately for her, this drives her to awaken to her true power.
  • Character Catchphrase: She's going to conquer the world! (strangely enough, she says she doesn't want to conquer the world in her autobio. Make of this what you will)
  • Combat Hand Fan: Whacks enemies with it as a melee attack.
  • Does Not Like Spam: She flies into a fit of rage when served sashimi, and since she's a fish demon, it's justified that the dish is Nightmare Fuel to her.
  • Haughty "Hmph": Comes with her near-constant whining.
  • Innocently Insensitive: When En'enra tells her and Susabi of a horribly abused boy, she concludes that he must have misbehaved to deserve that kind of treatment, even though a/ it's all but stated outright that the said boy is Susabi, who's sitting right there, and b/ it's later confirmed that he's a victim of No Good Deed Goes Unpunished. Hell, the fact she seems to believe that anyone deserves abuse at all is insensitive enough on its own.
  • It's All About Me: The biggest offender of this.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: When Sealand yokai ambush the retreat of the Arakawa spirits she was put in charge of, she's seriously wounded and about to die, when she remembers Lord Arakawa's words that the leader of Arakawa's duty is to protect his people. This awakens her true power as Reikai Kingyo-hime.
  • The Napoleon: Gets mocked by Lord of the Arakawa River for her petite size and wants to conquer the world to get even with him.
  • Paper Fan of Doom: She uses one in her basic attack, as well as to give orders to her goldfish.
  • Sitcom Archnemesis: Lord Arakawa. She hates him for constantly bullying her. He thinks she's amusing and, according to her Secret Zone, secretly watches out for her.
  • Summon Magic: She can summon a goldfish which Takes The Bullet for all members on the team.
  • Takes The Bullet: What her summoned goldfish does, wich greatly reduces the damage dealt by a single-target attack to any member on the team beside itself. This ability is similar to that of a shikigami equipped with four Teikon (Cutting Soul) mitama. This can be circumvented by stunning it or locking it in place by successfully casting Seimei's chain debuff on it, allowing the enemies to be attacked without killing the fish first.
  • Uplifted Animal: She is formerly a goldfish that ascended into a spirit.
  • You Are in Command Now: When Lord Arakawa stays behind alone to hold off the invading yokai of Sealand, he puts Kingyo in charge of the survivors, finally making her the new ruler of the Arakawa river as she wanted. Although at first she nearly dies, she rises to the occasion.

Heaven and earth are hidden in the games, everything is connected to go.
The ghost of a go master who died of a Heroic Sacrifice with go-based abilities.
  • Chess Motifs: Or Go Motif. He throws stones at enemies and his special skill depends on their color. A white piece weakens the enemy's attack and a black weakens their armor value.
  • Cute Ghost Girl: He's quite attractive for a ghost.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: His defeat voice clip sounds suspiciously like he's moaning
  • Fog Feet: His kimono is torn at the end, revealing that there are no feet or knees underneath. However, he is still capable of standing up. According to Word of Saint Paul, they're gone because his legs were cut off before he was thrown into the river to prevent him from swimming.
  • Gathering Steam: Once Awakened, Kisei's passive additionally lets him deal 600% of his ATK to enemies with 4 stacked stones.
  • Girly Bruiser: Femininely handsome, well-mannered, well-dressed, seemingly delicate and soft, but is an attack-type with a terrifying crowd-hitting skill.
  • Glass Cannon: He's prized for his brutal attack, but his HP is abysmal.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Since the last game he played was one where losers would be put to death, he gave up his own life to save his lover by refusing to make the winning move that would allow him to beat her.
  • Hime Cut: Has this haircut in both default and Awakened form, which emphasizes his graceful and somewhat haughty personality.
  • Jack of All Stats: After Awakening, all his stats are ranked A except HP, which is ranked C.
  • Love Interest: An unnamed master he defeated in his final game (see Smart People Play Chess below) obviously had feelings for him, saying she would take any punishments and even went so far as to hug him. This lead him to perform a Heroic Sacrifice and die in her place.
  • Magic Missile Storm: His special skill allows him to repeatedly drop stones at random enemies for an impressive amount of damage.
  • Mystical White Hair: By default. Another one in the game's long line of men with long white hair.
  • Politeness Judo: Seemingly a crisp and proper perpetual polite speaker, but his politeness only enhances how cocky some of his lines are.
  • Power Floats: Since he has no feet, he's always levitating over a go board.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Ignoring the fact his kimono is ripped at the end, the type of kimono he wears is completely proper and not at all stylized, save for the Chess Motif texture. Played completely straight in his skin where his kimono is no longer torn.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: He's not a very complex shikigami, as his schtick mostly relies on simply repeatedly smashing enemies with brute force. All that debuffing with the stones is just a garnish.
  • Smart People Play Chess: So smart he used to defeat ten other well-known Go masters in one game back in his human days, according to his autobiography.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: When Awakened, he has dark hair and eyes.

A half-humanoid, half-snake living in perpetual hatred over being wronged by her lover. She is also a minor villain who sides with Yamata-no-orochi.
  • Achilles' Heel: As with most other CC-spec shikigami, the brunt of Kiyohime's Breath Weapon can be foiled by simply having a strong enough shield. While the Viper marks still stick, they are nothing compared to the potentially much more devastating status effects that she would have otherwise put on the team like Freeze, Sleep or Confuse. The bane of players who main her in PvP are shikigami equipped with shield-type mitama that can negate her turn one advantage.
  • Breath Weapon: Kiyohime's special attack has her spewing her venom onto the enemy team and dealing Damage Over Time, while also marking them with Viper status that deals additional indirect damage after they move.
  • Damage Over Time/Poisonous Person: Her specialty is poison damage.
  • Face–Monster Turn: She was transformed from a human woman.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Kiyohime's Breath Weapon is actually incredibly versatile, despite seeming like a pretty mundane AoE skill. It hits all enemies three times, and due to its multi-hit nature can make it easy to apply CC effects by equipping her with mitama.
    • Kiyohime equipped with the Setsuyūkon/Snow Spirit mitama is still highly viable at the top tiers if she has enough SPD, or better yet an even faster puller to raise her up, to spray the enemy team before they could move. And if freezing the enemy alone isn't enough, her spray attack also applies Viper marks, which deals additional indirect damage after the enemy has moved on top of its innate Damage Over Time.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Has a kiseru in her official art, but doesn't actually have one in the game unless the player is using her Secret skin.
  • Snake People: Has the upper body of a human and the lower body of a snake.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: Taken to annoying extremes in chapter 24 where the heroes keeps kicking her butt only for her to re-emerge again, seemingly taking over Kyūmeineko's role. Exactly one battle in that chapter is not against her.
    • If that's not enough, in that chapter's dungeon, she both appears as a mob and the boss. Gah.
  • Yandere: She is madly in love with Anchin, the travelling monk who stayed at her house. Although he does have feelings for her, Anchin put those aside due to his duty as a Buddhist monk, and tries to distance himself from her. She doesn't take it well at all.

The idol of the forest Komatsumaru is me!
A Ridiculously Cute Critter demon.
  • Fake Longevity: Komatsu is unquestionably the most annoying of the Demon Seal shikigami to collect- like several of them, all three of her skills can be ranked up to level 5, but unlike all the other Demon Seal shikis she has a ridiculously low shard drop rate. On average you will get only a single shard from completing her zone, maybe 2 if you're lucky, compared to an average of 2-3 per run (and sometimes up to 5-6 if you're lucky) for the other SR shikis. Since you need 40 shards to summon a single copy of her, and 13 copies to make a maxed-out version (1 for your base Komatsu and 12 extras to rank up her skills), she requires literally hundreds of Demon Seal runs to complete. To add insult to injury, you can't even speed the process by unlocking her second bio for the standard 10 shard reward that most shikis give, because for some reason she's the only Demon Seal shiki that gives 10 jade instead of shards.
  • Forced Transformation: Her special skill can randomly turn enemies into acorns.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Once Awakened, with a successful hide, Komatsumaru will make a funny face to taunt the enemy who just attempted to attack her.
  • Killer Rabbit: May be a Ridiculously Cute Critter, but don't underestimate her- she's actually a man-eating demon!
  • Little Bit Beastly: Humanoid with critter ears and a ridiculously gigantic tail. Her evolved form also has squirrel paws.
  • Lovable Coward: Her passive skill that allows her to hide behind the teammate with the highest HP when attacked suggests that she is this. She also says stuff like, "I'll give you a pinecone, so don't hit me!"
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Adorable from looks to voice.

  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Still hasn't gotten over his whale friend's murder at the hands of Kainin and still seeks vengeance, wielding the whale's bones as a weapon.
  • Stance System: Kujira's kit has two alternating modes that can be toggled via his special ability: Assault and Defense. In Defense mode, Kujira grants his allies enhanced resistance to standard status debuffs, as well as putting temporary shields on them. In Assault mode, Kujira hits harder, boosts his teammates' offensive traits instead, and has a chance to join in on friendly basic attacks.

Shirodōji… Where are you?…
A very mentally unstable Afterworld-official-in-training who is close friends with Shirodōji.
  • Ax-Crazy: Isn't he ever.
  • Back from the Dead: According to Shirodōji's autobiography, after his soul was eaten by a demon, Shirodōji split his soul with him. He was brought back to life, but both of them are not allowed to return to the mortal world and must stay in the Afterworld and become officials.
  • Book Ends: His first autobiography opens with the line "Shirodōji, I never want to lose you" and his third ends with the same line.
  • Counter-Attack: When he is struck with an enemy attack, he has a chance of hitting the opposing team right back with his special skill, costing no Mana in the process. This effect however will not be triggered if he receives damage via Synchronization; he must be taking it directly in order for it to work.
  • Creepy Child: Those thinking he is as cute as he seems are in for a surprise as to how utterly insane and sadistic he is, despite being a little boy.
  • Crossdressing Voices: In the Chinese and English dubs of the MOBA game.
  • Cute Mute: He does have his share of adorable moments, albeit rare.
  • Desperation Attack: The lower HP he has left, the more strokes he delivers when executing his special skill. The epic 4 strokes when he's only a hair's breadth away from dying qualifies as this.
  • Dumb Struck: He lost his ability to speak after a certain traumatic event and Shirodōji has been helping him recover since.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: The Choleric in the group consisting of himself, Shirodōji and the Mujō brothers.
  • Glass Cannon: Exceptional attack (3377, ranked S, the third highest in the whole fucking game), painfully low HP and armor (9912 and 384 respectively, both ranked C), which, funny enough, puts him at disadvantage compared to Shirodōji.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: If he manages to take out an enemy when he uses his multi-target skill, he will automatically execute it again, and if another enemy dies again… you get the picture. This way, he can wipe out the entire enemy team in one go if he's powerful enough.
  • Hime Cut: This style is even more pronounced post-Awakening, and he already looks androgynous.
  • Laughing Mad: In the first side story, he breaks into fits of this as he loses control over his powers until the Mujō brothers have to knock him out. He also lets out constant bouts of "HEHEHEHEHE" in gameplay battle. He doesn't seem to have a normal voice, always either cackling, hissing or growling.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Looks quite adorable with his smooth flowing white hair. It also doesn't help that it's a Hime Cut.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Despite being a kid, his base attack force was once the second highest in the game, losing only to Yamakazenote . Combine this with skill levelling-up and attack-enhancing mitama and he's downright deadly.
  • Power Incontinence: Has a moment of this in the first side story until the Mujō brothers knock him senseless.
  • Sadist: He seems to enjoy chopping up enemies left and right to Laughing Mad levels.
  • Shinigami
  • Signature Laugh, HEHEHEHEHE!
  • Sinister Scythe: His weapon of choice.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes
  • Vocal Dissonance: Especially when he starts shrieking. Understandable, since this kid is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita of all people. Averted in the Kessen! Chinese and English voice tracks where he is voiced by women and thus sounding more like a young boy.

You are already dead.
An Afterworld official whose job is to lead souls of the dead to their rightful place. He dotes on his brother Shiromujō despite his not exactly appreciating the attention.
  • Animal Motifs: Crows.
  • Annoying Older Sibling: To Shiromujō.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He really loves Shiromujō, but the latter doesn't like it.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He's dressed in black from head to toe and a god of the dead, but is still a good guy.
  • Defrosting Ice King: In the first side story, he doesn't treat Shirodōji and Kurodōji in the nicest of ways, even calling them "brats" to their faces several times. Near the end of that episode, he joins them and has some fun and also helps Shirodōji teach Kurodōji to speak.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: He and his brother have red sclerae.
  • Finish Him!: Kuromujō's kit lets him operate like a true Shinigami, taking the lives of those who are close to death. To that end, his special ability hits 50% harder against those who have 40% or less HP remaining, while enemies with more than that amount of health will take half damage.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The reason why he and Shiromujō work together as a pair in the first place. He is supposed to have taken over his brother's responsibilities and freed him after enlisting his help, but Shiromujō decided to stay and work with him out of concern.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: The Melancholic in the group consisting of himself, his brother and their two apprentices.
  • Incest Subtext: He dotes on his brother a little too much, and even Shiromujō himself displays subtle Tsundere tendencies towards him.
  • Night and Day Duo: Wears a moon on his hat to represent Night as opposed to Shiromujō's Day.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: See Self-Made Orphan below.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Like his brother, he looks completely human except for his blood-red sclera.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to Shiromujō's Blue.
  • Related in the Adaptation: In actual Taoist mythos, the Wúcháng are not related. In this game, they're actual siblings.
  • Sadly Mythcharacterized: He and his brother can be safely assumed to be In Name Only versions of the mythical Hēibái Wúcháng.
    • First and foremost, the real deities are not related.
    • Their manner of death: the most known version of the myth posits that the black one drowned and the white one hanged himself from grief. In this game, they were killed by their Abusive Parents and ended up killing them in revenge.
  • Self-Made Orphan: He and his brother were abused by their parents when they were alive. The younger died first and exacted revenge on the father with the help of a Shinigami, thus ending up taking up his job. The older once died counted on the help of his now amnesiac brother to kill the mother as well.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With Shiromujō, obviously. They're even Color-Coded for Your Convenience.
  • Shinigami
  • Sinister Scythe: His weapon.
  • Tsundere: Is eventually revealed to be one in the first side story where the arrival of two young apprentices helps him display his gentle side, especially toward his brother.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: A good-looking man with dark hair and eyes.
  • Wistful Amnesia: Averted; Shiromujō notes in his autobiography that giving up one's memory is a requirement to getting a position in the Afterworld, but for some reason Kuromujō has his completely intact and can still recall the past he and Shiromujō shared together.

A vampire, that's what all we have to say about her. But is that all there is to her...?
  • Cast from Hit Points: Her basic attack causes her HP to go down along with her enemy's, as her attack force grows stronger the more HP she loses.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: For years she'd been a non-appearing character in the story who stuck out as quite out-of-place among the rest of the cast. Then the Yato-no-Kami story arc came along and she suddenly became a major character as it delved into her origins.
  • Critical Status Buff: The more health she loses, the stronger her basic attack becomes. At death's door with 1% health remaining, Kyūketsu-hime's basic hits for 396% bonus damage.
  • Cross-Popping Veins: An indicator of her Critical Status Buff in action.
  • Dub Name Change: Known simply as "Vampira" in the English version.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Her mother was an enshyoujo, a type of spirit formed from Yatonokami's essence who serve as his maids. She ended up breeding with a human man rather than dividing herself as is usual for her kind, resulting in an independant offspring rather than just a derivative of Yatonokami.
  • Life Drain: Her special skill does this and also poisons the enemy.
    • Averted after a patch, where rather than restoring her HP, it converts the damage she inflicts into a shield, allowing her to keep her HP low (to benefit from her passive) while still surviving enemy retaliation.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Unlike most shikigami, Kyūketsu-hime's bread and butter is her basic attack, which drains her health with every move but scales damage inversely proportionally to her remaining HP, while her active skill is a self-heal. Because of this, a shortage of orbs doesn't bother her too much.
  • Non-Specifically Foreign: Her entire character and "lore" were made up for the game, as Japan has no native folklore concerning vampires or similar bat yōkai, much less a very Western-inspired one. The first "native" depictions of a Japanese vampire were conceived during the early 1950s, and they bear little to no resemblance to her design and character.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: She doesn't seem bothered by sunlight and has bat wings that don't seem to help her fly. Oh, did we mention she's very much a Western vampire in Heian period Japan?
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Goes red in her skin instead.

An arrogant flutist with a heart of gold.
  • Counter-Attack: Hit him and he will hit you back, unless he dies. When he casts a charm over the entire team, he also has a chance of swatting an enemy right back if they attack his teammates.
  • Fake Longevity: He costs 3500 shrine tickets to buy! That is an obscene amount of tickets, equivalent to the trade-in value of 4 2/3 SSR shikigami, 35, SRs, or 700 Rs making him far rarer than any SSR. As a result, he's the one SR who it's universally accepted as completely normal to spend skill daruma upgrading, as the idea of getting duplicate copies of him to sacrifice to raise his skill is laughable. (The same applies to the other Shrine SRs to come after him, Ninmenju and Kainin, although Ninmenju was earnable in a release event and Kainin can sometimes be bought as a prize from major storyline events.)
  • Glass Cannon: Impressive attack (3250, ranked S), disappointing HP and defense (10140 and 392 respectively, both ranked C).
  • Instrument of Murder: He simply smacks enemies with his flute. It also apparently has a sword hidden inside it which never seems to be used.
  • Insufferable Genius: He's an even haughtier master musician than Yōkinshi. He declares humans to be "ill-mannered, selfish and annoying" for not appreciating his music enough.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: After denouncing all humans in his first autobiography, he decided to play a tune for a dying woman who loved his music. Even though he had every right to be mad at her for stalking him.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: He is a misanthropic bastard alright, but seeing as he was on the receiving end of this human's stalking him throughout her lifetime, maybe his hatred isn't completely baseless.
  • Mystical White Hair: Is given this in his skin. Consequently, some fans have complained that the game has way too many white-haired men.
  • Stalker with a Crush: The human woman told in his autobiography. She secretly listened to his music from her youth until she died of old age and apparently he saw nothing wrong with this.
  • Stalking is Love: The Unfortunate Implication of his backstory, as a woman's stalking lead to his change of heart.
  • Tareme Eyes

A peach blossom yōkai who is close friends with Sakura-no-sei.
  • Back from the Dead: She can bring back one fallen teammate at a time at whatever HP she is currently capable of restoring. She however cannot bring back an onmyōji.
  • The Cassandra: She initially objected to Sakura's falling in love with a mortal. Guess what happened.
  • Combat Stilettos: The absurdly high sandals she wears, which look even more dangerous than an actual pair of stilettos. How the hell does she walk in those?
  • Critical Hit Class: Unlike many other healers, whose healing capability is calculated after their HP, Momo additionally requires very high Crit % to be effective, not helped by how low it is by default (5%, a B rank). Due to the nature of her main healing skill, a non-crit heal will only restore HP to one teammate at a time, which isn't very good at all if the enemy has a high-damage Herd-Hitting Attack. A critical heal, on the other hand, will restore truckloads of HP for everybody.
  • Fantastic Racism: At first, she doesn't like the idea of a demon in love with a human.
  • Flower Motif: Peach blossoms, which is the only thing preventing her from being a straight-up Cherry Blossom Girl.
  • Healing Hands: Can heal an individual or, if she's lucky, the entire team.
  • Horned Humanoid: Has a pair growing from her forehead.
  • The Medic: She is among a small handful of healer-type shikigami who could resurrect fallen teammates.
  • Mighty Glacier: She has high defensive value (490, has an S rank) and the second slowest speed in the game (100 post-Awakeningnote , has a B rank), losing only to Sakura.
