    Kohaku
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/filename_03_cs1w1_x300.jpg
Voiced by: Ikue Otani
Seimei's "special" shikigami and the Team Pet of the main quartet. For tropes about his humanoid form Hakuzōsu, please see Onmyoji 2016 SSR Shikigami A To M.
  • Adapted Out: Does not appear in The Musical despite being a very frequently recurring character.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Is canonically male, but you won't know it judging by Kohaku's androgynous voice, gender-neutral grammar and using its own name as a first-person pronoun.
  • Exposition Fairy: Acts as a guide to the basics of gameplay at the start of the game, leading to the only instance of (justified) Breaking the Fourth Wall.
  • I Am Not Weasel: Immediately corrects anyone calling him a dog instead of a fox, especially Hiromasa. This is featured as a Running Gag in the story. Cue massive Mood Whiplash when the species miscategorizing comes from Yaobikuni…
    • On the one occasion someone is actually successfully corrected, Kohaku almost gets mixed up and tells him that he's a dog and not a fox.
  • Secret Identity: It turns out he's actually Hakuzosu, Kagura's totem animal that fights with her in battle.
  • Series Mascot: Is depicted on the game's icon when it's not Seimei or Kagura instead.
  • Talking Animal
  • Team Pet: Seems to act as this for the onmyōji.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Hiromasa. He admits more than once that it doesn't like him, but they are still comrades.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: He can shift between this and a couple other forms. As a playable shikigami, it occasionally shows him shift between humanoid and fox form in a puff of smoke.
    Kuro Seimei
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/o1skin3.png
Voiced by: Noriaki Sugiyama (uncredited)
Musical actor: Yoshihide Sasaki (Heian Emaki)
The first Big Bad of the story. The Literal Split Personality of Seimei created when the latter committed the "soul-splitting sin", his hideous crimes are often pinned on Seimei instead.
  • Alleged Lookalikes: Everybody keeps mistaking the good Seimei for him even though their character designs are obviously different to the players' eyes. Due to him being a Literal Split Personality, spirits perceive the Seimeis differently than humans do and register to them as being the same.
  • Adaptation-Induced Plot Hole: The all-CGI cartoon has him siding with Yamata-no-orochi. However, since the whole thing is revealed to have taken place in Seimei's painting at the end of the short, it doesn't have to be accurate.
  • Big Bad: Before Yamata-no-orochi comes in and screws everything up even further.
  • Celibate Hero: Unlike Seimei, a Clueless Chick-Magnet that is seemingly oblivious to the very concept of love, Kuro Seimei is aware of the women who admire him. He just has better things to do.
  • Enemy Mine: He isn't too fond of Yamata-no-orochi himself, so he displays more and more Pet the Dog actions towards Seimei and co. as the story progresses.
  • Enemy Without: He was created when Seimei tried to get rid of his Enemy Within.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Seimei. To this end, two of his more loyal minionsnote  are also the exact same Starter Mon given to a new player during the tutorial.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Like Seimei, he is also only a half — the Yin half to be specific — of the original Abe no Seimei.
  • Japanese Pronouns: Ware and watashi, the former being more frequent.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The story takes on a new level of complicated and serious the moment the existence of a "black onmyōji" is mentioned, and just goes downhill from there.
  • Literal Split Personality: He and Seimei are ones of the original Abe no Seimei.
  • Pet the Dog: Though still antagonistic toward Seimei after his defeat, he helps Seimei multiple times, i.e subduing Jorōgumo and offering a clue to the fragments of the Sword of Kusanagi, a move that greatly surprises Seimei.
  • Walking Spoiler: You cannot mention the existence of this guy without also revealing his inherent connection to Seimei. The way the story hints at him before he finally debuts also makes talking about him to those not yet having cleared chapter 12 difficult.
  • Sir Not-Appearing-in-This-Trailer: For obvious reasons.
    Minamoto no Yorimitsu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/000012a2_by_rain_midori_dcytq4n.png
Voiced by: Toshiyuki Morikawa
Musical actor: Kento Mutō (Ōezan-hen)
The skilled onmyōji of the Minamoto clan who lead a massacre on the demons on Mt. Ōe. He was the master of Onikiri, the supposed famed treasure sword of the Minamoto clan.
  • Anti-Hero: The fact that he committed some pretty reprehensible acts such as seemingly sacrificing innocent women to the Yamata-no-orochi and tricking a yōkai into committing genocide against his own kind already makes him the most morally questionable member of the ensemble. However, it is revealed that in fact his true goal had been to stop the sacrifices long instigated by the Minamoto clan once and for all, by using Kagura's willing, feigned sacrifice as bait to kill Orochi. In fact, the only atrocity he has committed is his manipulation of Onikiri and his creation of demonic weapons.
  • Fantastic Racism/What Measure Is a Non-Human?: He had no qualms committing a genocide against demons using a demon himself, no less.
  • Historical Domain Character: Minamoto no Yorimitsu.
  • Historical Villain Upgrade: While historical records and legends paint him as an altruistic onmyōji and warrior, who brought peace to the land by quelling many mythical beasts alongside his disciples, the game version of Yorimitsu is most definitely up to no good, or at least an Anti-Hero. This is averted after the Orochi story revisions - he uses the power gained from this deal, and his own body and blood, to create countless demon-slaying weapons, to dispense with the need to sacrifice innocent human lives, only himself.
  • Intelligence Equals Isolation: Is completely ostracised despite his genius, described as "impossible to understand, obsessive, and a little pathetic", with the clan leaders treating him as an ticking bomb, resorting to abhorrent methods to fight demons, telling him that instead of bringing glory to the clan he would become a monster, just like the weapons he created.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Shows surprising compassion when he reveals that he often goes out to Heian-kyo's destroyed streets after a purge, pouring out a flask of wine to pay homage to those who perished in the Great Fire. His burning drive to protect humanity without the loss of any human life may also count as this.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Less of a pretty boy than Seimei, but still a good-looking man with long white hair.
  • Mutual Kill: With Onikiri after he discovered the truth about himself and his master's deception. The fact that Yorimitsu is still alive after this backstory heavily suggests that, like Onikiri, he's also Back from the Dead.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He wanted to perform a sacrificial ceremony to unleash the Orochi's full power in order to stop demons. Because of this, he called out Seimei, who also wanted to stop demons, for being similar and not wanting to stop him from going through with the ceremony after all. He has also admitted that his hands are already stained with blood, but will spill more to protect humanity from youkai.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Definitely the most unscrupulous and ruthless human character encountered so far.
    Minamoto no Yoriyasu
Live actor: Ariso Yamakawa (Ōezan-hen)

  • Canon Foreigner: He is exclusive to the Ōezan-hen musical; the dude doesn't even exist in real-life history. Used to kickstart his little brother's vendetta against all youkai… even though in real life, Yorimitsu did not have an older brother; he was the eldest child of Minamoto no Mitsunaka.
  • Historical Domain Character: Averted for once.
    Hakutaku
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_20190119_184319.jpg
Voiced by: Koji Yusa
The perverted demon who accidentally wanders into Heian-kyō along with Hōzuki and some other Hell personnel and is later caught nearly devoured by 2 demonesses at the Rashōmon. For tropes about his character, please see Hozuki's Coolheadedness.
    Ashiya Dōman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/douman.png
Seimei's historical rival and bitter enemy. He made his first significant appearance during the Castle of the Sun event.
    Yamata-no-orochi
One of the original gods of this world, and widely considered to be the God of Evil. He is the secret mastermind behind the first half of the story, and takes over from Kuro Seimei as the Big Bad. Tropes regarding his SSR form can be found here. Tropes regarding his SP form can be found here.
  • All-Loving Hero: In a twisted example of this trope, he loves all parts of humans, including and especially the most wicked parts.
  • And I Must Scream: Sealed between two dimensions for many centuries, 'nuff said.
  • Big Bad: He takes over from Kuro in the second half of the story chapters. The story chapters end with the heroes temporarily resecuring the seal and releasing the Vengeful Ghosts of the maidens that had been used as Human Sacrifice to create an inferior clone of him. The event stories that take place afterwards focus on the heroes dealing with his other plots and preparing for the day that he breaks free from the seal for real.
  • The Chessmaster: Since being sealed, he has spent thousands of years scheming multiple seemingly unrelated plots to break the seal and put the city of the gods under the same trial they once tried to use to execute him.
  • Co-Dragons: He is served by six sins, who are Amaterasu's Enemy Without. Collectively, they are known as the Seven Evil Gods.
  • Complete Immortality: He comes close. As one of the original gods, he is an intrinsic part of the world. The gods had to devise a very special weapon capable of suppressing his divinity in order to execute him, only to fail due to Susanoo's treachery.
  • The Corruptor: He is skeptical of Amaterasu's belief in love, while embracing chaos and absolute freedom. To this end, he enjoys tempting mortals to sin.
  • Dark Messiah: In his mind, he is setting the world and it's people free from the lies and chains of the Hypocrite Top God, Amaterasu.
  • Demonic Possession:
    • Susanoo's betrayal was not by his own will, but by Orochi's, due to infecting him with his own essence.
    • He also uses it on Kagura, since as the Maiden of Offerings, her existence is important as a power source for his plans.
  • Devour the Dragon: Two of the Seven Evil Gods lose interest in his plans. Orochi doesn't care. He was planning to sacrifice the lot of them anyway, he just devours the two and imprisons them in his stomach ahead of schedule.
  • Emotion Eater: As an Anthropomorphic Personification of evil, he can feed off of and grow stronger from the sins of mortals.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: While they were not quite stupid enough to intentionally set him free, the Minamato Clan was still evil and foolish enough to offer him Human Sacrifice in return for blessing their city. This did quite a bit to forward Orochi's plans, and the Minamato Clan ends up suffering for them as much as everyone else.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: He manages to sound both soft-spoken and intimidatingly-deep at the same time due to his Voice of the Legion.
  • Expendable Clone: Remember the massive hydra-like boss that you keep running into in the story and Soul dungeons? It is technically a defective clone of himself, spawned by the power of life creation he granted to Minamoto-no-Yorimitsu. Although he pities the creature for its lack of individuality, the great power it holds is his key to breaking the boundaries between worlds, potentially allowing him to return to the mortal world in all his glory.
  • Fallen Angel: He was once one of the gods of Takama-ga-hara, but ultimately rebelled against the Top God, Amaterasu. His SP form is directly called Fallen God Orochi.
  • God of Evil: He is the leader of the Seven Evil Gods, the other six of whom serve as his Co-Dragons.
  • I Let You Win: During the first war between Heaven and the Seven Evil Gods, Orochi intentionally allowed his side to lose in order to win the Long Game.
  • In Their Own Image: His ultimate goal is to destroy the world of love and law created by Amaterasu, to replace it with one of absolute freedom, centered on him.
  • Intrigued by Humanity: In a very twisted way, he loves humans, finding them far more fascinating than the boring city of the gods.
  • Leaking Can of Evil: Even after the gods sealed him in the Void Between the Worlds, he thrashed at his prison, trying to escape, and he would manage to leak out The Corruption, corroding the land and turning victims into nagas. A desperate human army tried to destroy the corruption to no avail, until Susanoo ordered the Tomb Guard to teach the four onmyōji clan founders how to use field spells. With this new knowledge, the Minamoto clan would maintain a spell on the land over Orochi's prison to reinforce it. But even then, Orochi would still manage to smuggle some out.
  • The Man Behind the Man: His manipulations are the origin of Kuro Seimei and Ōtakemaru's descents into villainy.
  • Monster Progenitor: He and the other six Evil Gods twisted humans with sin, turning them into the first demons. Demons were intended to be practitioners of sin, but ultimately, they valued freedom even more, meaning that most demons have no interest in practicing what Orochi wants.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: What his SP form's theme song claims as it echoes his thoughts. Unfortunately, no one will ever understand or appreciate just what he is doing on their behalf as a Dark Messiah, but he just wants to set everyone free. He will fight for what he believes is right to the end, fear will not deter him, and he will burn Amaterasu's world of love to the ground to put an end to her lies.
  • Reforged into a Minion: His The Corruption can turn spirits, demons, and humans into nagas under his control. Orochi likes to muse about how brimming with potential they once were, but now only exist to hate the world. They can only be cured with death.
  • Sadist: He enjoys watching mortals suffer and struggle.
  • Sadly Mythtaken: The in-game Yamata-no-Orochi has a very obvious snake Animal Motif going on, complete with scales and venom-based attacks, and the provided lore depicts him as a divine snake god. The actual Yamata-no-Orochi in Shinto religion is a dragon, albeit a decidedly serpentine one.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Since Susanoo's betrayal prevented them from executing him, the gods had to settle for suppressing his divinity and trapping him in the Void Between the Worlds. Between the Minamoto's Human Sacrifices, Seimei's decision to split himself, and Yao Bikuni's deliberate attempts to free him, he ultimately breaks free. And after Ashura pulls the weapon that failed to execute him out of his chest, his full power is restored.
  • Shapeshifter Guilt Trip: It's Demonic Possession rather than shape shifting, but when Susanoo tries to drive him out of Kagura, Orochi uses her voice to say "It hurts!", startling Susanoo much to Orochi's amusement.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: Part of his Animal Motif. He is sometimes called the Serpent Lord, and he is served by nagas. He has more than one shape, one of which is a gigantic snake. Taishakuten describes snakes as merciless beings by nature.
  • Time Abyss: He is one of the gods that shaped the world when it was first created.
  • To Create a Playground for Evil: His ultimate goal is to destroy the current world and replace it with one where the wicked can indulge themselves in unlimited sin.
  • Villain Respect: He deeply admires watching his enemies be Defiant to the End, fighting off their inevitable doom.
    Ibuki, the Tomb Guard
Originally Susanoo's pet cat, he was assigned to guard the rift where Orochi was sealed. He was the one who trained the first Onmyoji in how to use human magic.
    Octopus
    Himiko
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/himikonpc.png
Click to see the corrupted Himiko.
Voiced by: Rie Tanaka
The final boss of the Nichirin-no-jō (Sun Castle) event.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: Unable to deal with the loss of everything she loved on what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, Himiko loses her mind and uses her power to trap the Castle of the Sun in one of these for decades.
  • The High Queen: Ageless ruler of the Castle of the Sun and beloved by every one of her subjects. Subverted after she goes mad.
  • Laughing Mad: After her mind snaps, Himiko starts laughing hysterically as she creates the time loop, and again when Youhime confronts her about stopping it.
  • Light Is Not Good
  • Locked Out of the Fight: Himiko could use Time Prison to disable an onmyōji or shikigami for three moves. Locked units are released after three actions by any other onmyōji or shikigami on the field, friend or foe doesn't matter. For as long as they are locked, the targets cannot be healed, and their passives will not trigger.
  • Palette Swap: Her three minions are effectively Yuki-onna, Koi-no-sei, and Ōtengu, using Kiseirei models in different colors.
    Sōgenbi
Voiced by: Romi Park (Greed), Hiroki Yasumoto (Anger), Masaya Onosaka (Foolery)
A three-faced demon that controls its own realm that players could challenge to obtain rare or high-leveled mitama in addition to fighting Orochi.
  • Breath Weapon: All three faces attack by spitting projectiles from their mouths: Greed flings a single spherical ball of energy that does moderate damage but has a high chance to Daze, Anger spews fire waves, and Foolery spits out a huge cloud of miasma that hits everybody on your team and can Confuse them.
  • Mind Hive: All three faces of Sōgenbi have their own personalities, but share the same mind, which they constantly bicker among each other about.
  • Stance System: Sōgenbi can change to whichever face it wants mid-battle, or involuntarily so by being struck by a shikigami. Should the player line up the same faces on all three boss monsters, they will receive a debuff instead, while a buff is applied to their team.
    Kumamon
The official mascot of Kumamoto prefecture, appearing in a collaboration event.
    Merfolk King
The boss of the Sea of Eternity event and Sea of Eternity soul zone.
  • Beta Test Baddie: He resented the fact that he suffered due to being weak and tries to steal Suzuka Gozen's merdragon Life Energy to become strong.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Crossed it after learning the Awful Truth. His beloved wife only married him to recover the energy she lost from childbirth by eating him. After killing her in self-defense, he discovered her notes, revealing the First Promise, the secret behind the Merfolk's immortality, to be a lie. In truth, their immortality was powered not by an artifact, but by stealing Life Energy from visiting humans and even unborn merfolk.
  • Gender Bender: If a merman's lover dies, he becomes a mermaid. He took advantage of this to disguise himself as his wife. When he betrays the heroes, Yaobikuni exposes him by using an onmyōji spell to force him back to his original form.
  • Kill and Replace: He mortally wounded the Merfolk Queen when she tried to eat him and took advantage of the resulting Gender Bender to disguise himself as her and take her place.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: He belongs to the merfolk race.
  • Sympathy for the Hero: He became a villain because he was tired of suffering due to his weakness. Since Senhime also suffered for being weak, yet was a Determinator who struggled regardless, he sympathizes with her, offering her a chance at We Can Rule Together. After he is slain, he tells her to become the new Queen for that same reason.
    Amaterasu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/onmyojiamaterasu.png
The Top God and God Empress of Takama-ga-hara, city of the gods, and The Maker of the Onmyoji world.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: Of light, the Sun, and the Seven Deadly Sins.
  • Big Good: As the benevolent Top God, countering Orochi, she is this to the overall setting.
  • The Evils of Free Will: Orochi believes that love is a lie Amaterasu created as shackles to prevent people from sinning and becoming truly free.
  • God-Emperor: She has explicitly been referred to as God Empress.
  • God Is Flawed: When Orochi questions her on the problem of evil, she keeps giving him Non Answers. He eventually figured out what she is hiding from him, the fact that the sins originate from Amaterasu herself, because no matter how much she wishes otherwise, even she is not a perfect being, and the world she created reflects her flaws. Even if she tried to create a world without sin by force, it would be incomplete on a structural level, since sin is an intrinsic part of her own nature. She eventually concludes that the answer to sin is not to erase or hide it, but to embrace love to endure it and let the world confront it again and again in order to grow up.
  • God of Good: She is the founder of the world's ideals of love and law.
  • Have You Seen My God?: She has been inactive since Orochi's trial failed to kill him. Even most of the other gods do not know what has happened to her. In order to counter Orochi's curse, she had to give up humanoid form to become the Sun, leaving her brother, Tsukuyomi to become God-Emperor in her stead.
  • Heroic Suicide: She uses an Ancient Artifact she built to kill gods upon herself. Since Izanami, Destroyer Deity, mixed part of herself into Amaterasu's creation for a Grand Theft Me, she is Hoist by Her Own Petard as it results in Synchronization.
  • Hypocrite: She claims to be an all-loving omnipotent goddess, but as Orochi points out, that brings forth the problem of evil. If she is so benevolent and powerful, then why does she punish people for sin instead of saving them from it? She only gives Orochi ambiguous answers to his questions. He eventually figures out that the sources of all sin are the parts of Amaterasu herself that she rejected, and she fears what will happen if the people embrace them.
  • Love Goddess: Aside from bringing light and the other creator deities into the world, she also introduced the concept of love.
  • The Maker: She is one of three siblings, the children of Izanagi and Izanami, the gods of the multiverse. Out of her siblings, she is the Top God of their universe, the Onmyoji universe, and its creator. Aside from Orochi and her siblings, she created all of the gods of Takama-ga-hara. She is also the one who defined the natural order of the main realm. In addition to the Onmyoji universe, she created one universe before, only to watch all of her hard work die at the flicker of Izanami's hands. She also created six Pocket Dimensions attached to the Onmyoji universe.
  • Non-Answer: Whenever Orochi questioned her about the problem of evil, she would give answers that seemed superficially complex, but lacked any real meaning if you take the effort to process them.
  • Sealed Evil in a Duel: As he was sealed, Orochi placed the land under a curse, causing The Night That Never Ends. In order to counter it, Amaterasu had to transform herself into what would come to be known as the sun. To the bafflement of the other gods, even when the evil she was countering is released, Amaterasu remains in slumber. The gods and great onmyoji clans gather several of the top dancing goddesses/spirits and enact a prayer ritual to gather enough prayer energy to force her awake.
  • Split-Personality Merge: After purifying them, Amaterasu resolves to recombine with her discarded sins to reclaim enough power to stand up to Izanami. She is only able to reclaim six, with the mysterious seventh remaining under Orochi's confinement, but it's enough to pull off Amaterasu's Heroic Suicide.
  • Top God: She is the leader of the Takama-ga-hara gods.
  • Weird Sun: The sun she created/became takes the form of a ball of fire floating through the sky.
    The Seven Evil Gods
Avatars of Amaterasu's weaknesses and her Enemy Without, they are the Anthropomorphic Personification of the Seven Deadly Sins.
  • Abstract Eater: The Goddess of Gluttony can even eat the laws of nature, such as gravity.
  • Abusive Parents: They pretty much have a Humans Are Insects attitude towards their Demihuman creations.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: Of the Seven Deadly Sins, for which they are the source in this world.
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: The God of Wrath commits suicide rather than be slain by a lowly mortal like Seimei.
  • Co-Dragons: All of them except for the Goddess of Lies work under Orochi as his most powerful followers, and even the Goddess of Lies is willing to work with Orochi. Two of them end up turning on him, but he still manages to overpower them.
  • Curse: Orochi betrays them and brands them as Izanami's possessions so she can enact a Grand Theft Me upon them.
  • Emotion Eater: They feast off of sin, which is why each of them tries their hand at Upsetting the Balance. Being locked away from the main realm into the Six, each of them creates Demihumans to feed off of the sin that they generate. Their children do not appreciate this and try to rebel.
  • Enemy Without: They are avatars of Amaterasu's own weaknesses, as implanted in her by Izanami during her creation.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: The Goddess of Gluttony has the power to turn whatever she eats into a new spirit, which is how she created her daughter, the Goddess of the Four Seasons, Shiki. When Shiki performs a Heroic Suicide to ensure her mother remains sealed and restore the natural order, the Goddess of Gluttony's final act is to revive her one last time without being tainted by the power of gluttony and without the need to actively maintain the Four Seasons.
  • Fusion Dance: The God of Lust merged the previous Peacock Queen into his tail. The heroes are unable to do anything about this, and he taunts her sister over it. Even after he is purified and merged back into Amaterasu, the goddess he was originally a part of, you can still see her figure on his tail when Amaterasu manifests his power.
  • The Ghost: One of the evil gods has yet to be shown or even named, though by process of elimination, it would either be Greed or Gluttony. Even during the cutscene where Amaterasu cast out her sins, only the previous six revealed are shown. All we know is that said evil god turned on Orochi and was imprisoned by him as consequence.
  • Gilded Cage: How Orochi described the God of Lust's condition. The God of Lust conquered the Pocket Dimension he was sealed into and was content never to leave or continue working with Orochi. So Orochi performs a Devour the Dragon outright.
  • God of Evil: They personify the sins and are the source of all evil in the world.
  • I Regret Nothing: The Goddess of Gluttony is fully aware that her existence is an unsatisfiable and empty one, just like her daughter says, but is ultimately proud of pursuing her nature and has no regrets about it even as it results in her being sealed. How her relationship with her daughter turned out is only one thing she would even consider regretting.
  • I Reject Your Reality: The God of Pride keeps insisting that he has never been defeated nor will he ever be, even after he has in fact been defeated, sealed, and is now in the process of purification.
  • The Maker: After being banished to the Six Realms, the ones who didn't have a previous guardian deity to overthrow shaped the world they were sealed into. Ironically enough, despite each one being a God of Evil themselves, their creations, whether spirit or Demihuman, only have a small affinity for the sin that created them and aren't much different from humans in nature.
  • Manipulative Bastard: The God of Pride, who ironically enough pulls off better deceptions than the Goddess of Lies, fooling an entire realm into making him a Villain with Good Publicity and even pulling Seimei into a trap.
  • Monster Progenitor: They are responsible for the creation of demons, by corrupting humans and spirits into sadistic human-eating monsters. While first generation demons tend to be fully corrupted, later generations value freedom over sin and are willing to oppose the evil gods as much as mortals in order to keep it. As such, the evil gods see them as a disappointment.
  • Planet Eater: Each of them ultimately plans to eat the world they have been sealed in so that they can invade the main realm.
  • Plant Person: The Goddess of Gluttony is a sapient tree.
  • Resurrective Immortality: They can be killed with enough effort, but they will not die permanently as they are an intrinsic part of the world. At most, death might cause their personality to shift upon rebirth.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can:
    • They were originally sealed under the city of the gods, up until Orochi set them free.
    • Susanoo sealed six of them into the Six Realms gates, protecting the main universe but exposing the neighboring Pocket Dimensions to their predations.
    • Seimei starts killing their physical forms and sealing their divine power for purification within Susanoo's weapon, Ame-no-Habakiri.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: They are the seven weaknesses of Amaterasu, personified in seven separate avatars called the Seven Evil Gods. Most of them are the traditional sins, Pride, Envy, Lust, Gluttony, and Wrath. However, one of the sins, either Greed or Sloth, has been replaced with Lies.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: The God of Pride managed to become the beloved deity of a Pocket Dimension he ultimately plans to eat and destroy. The fight against him involves repairing the approval rating of the true guardian deity of the realm and knocking his down to zero.
    Izanami
The Goddess of Death and Destruction.
  • Destroyer Deity: Her job is to bring each world to its end.
  • Evil Matriarch: If Izanagi is the multiverse's father, then she is its mother. She guided their daughter, Amaterasu, in creating her first world, and then to Amaterasu's despair, destroyed it with the flicker of her hand, causing Amaterasu to oppose her.
  • Grand Theft Me: Orochi plans to summon her influence into the world using the Seven Evil Gods as vessels in order to end the world created by Amaterasu. Izanami herself has long planned to do the same to Amaterasu herself, and the Evil Gods were originally fragments of herself that she mixed into Amaterasu's creation to enable this.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Destroyer of all things and Orochi's mother.
  • Revenge: While the cycle of creation and destruction is important to the multiverse's balance, that is not her main motive for bringing each world to its end. She mainly does it to hurt Izanagi over a grudge from the previous multiverse.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Her ancient plan to enact a Grand Theft Me on Amaterasu involved imbuing part of herself into Amaterasu's creation, making them partially the same person. As a result, Amaterasu performing a Heroic Suicide results in Synchronization.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Her actions are restricted by her counterpart, Izanagi.
  • Time Abyss: She is older than the current multiverse.
  • Two-Faced: Half of her face is beautiful to the point that mortals would gladly drown themselves to admire it, the other half is hideous and decayed.
