"I feel like a toddler holding a crayon with a blank sheet of paper."

A former student of Jujutsu High and Gojo's best friend, who plans to create a world of only jujutsu sorcerers... Or at least, that was the real Geto's plan.

This Curse User is actually an impostor named Kenjaku who used his Cursed Technique to transplant his brain into the body of the real Suguru Geto, who died during the events of Volume 0. He's been body surfing around for some time now; one of his previous bodies was the evil Sorcerer Noritoshi Kamo*, responsible for the creation of the Death Paintings about 150 years ago, but going by the Sorcerers he has gathered up as Cursed Objects, it's been at least a thousand and some years. Joining forces with the Disaster Curses at the beginning of the story, he uses them to accelerate his plan of bringing out humanity's potential in using cursed energy and ushering in a new era of jujutsu sorcery through arranging a twisted Culling Game.

Along with the technique he uses to transplant his brain and being a powerful Barrier Technique user, he also has Geto's Cursed Technique "Cursed Spirit Manipulation", which allows him to absorb and control Curses and use them for combat. Cursed Spirit Manipulation's Maximum Technique, Uzumaki, also has a secondary effect that transfers the Innate Techniques of all the Curses used to fuel it for a single use if they are Semi-Grade 1 or higher. He also has an entirely third Technique called "Antigravity System" that allows him to manipulate gravity.

  • Achilles' Heel: Since Kenjaku's true body is the brain-like cursed being he surgically implants into his host bodies, only a direct strike to the cranium will kill him. Getting his head cut off by Yuta's surprise attack effectively severs his control over Geto's body and leaves him helpless, but his head can still talk and issue commands for a few moments afterwards, which he uses to pass control over the Culling Game and his master plan to "Megumi Fushigoro" (read:Sukuna in Megumi's body) before Yuta stops him for good with a stab straight through the head.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: Against all odds Takaba does amuse him.
  • Ambiguous Gender: He's taken both male and female hosts throughout history, but the gender of his original body (or if gender even applies to his true form anymore) is unclear.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It's really not clear why Kenjaku created Yuji. He claims that Yuji's only purpose is to be a vessel, but later information, as well as the fact that Kenjaku is a well-established liar, makes that claim highly questionable. In particular the fact that Yuji is later established to have latent potential on par with Sukuna makes his supposed motive of merely wanting to create a vessel for Sukuna extremely bizarre, as he could quite possibly be creating a second Sukuna yet he doesn't seem even the least bit worried about this prospect. Moreover, it's established that other people, such as Megumi, are still capable of serving as a host for Sukuna, yet Kenjaku for whatever reason wanted someone who could imprison Sukuna. One certainly does get the impression that there's a lot more to Kenjaku's motivations here that the reader isn't made privy to.
  • Ancient Evil: He qualifies as one himself, being at least a millennium old and having spent the better part of his existence scheming to see humanity achieve the next step in its evolution, consequences be damned. He also has a menagerie of abilities, in the form of ancient Cursed Spirits absorbed through Geto's Technique.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: In the wake of the Shibuya Incident, it becomes supremely clear that if every post-Heian Era Sorcerer are players in a casino, this guy might as well be the proverbial house that always wins, and the only reason he didn't unleash this power upon the world earlier was because he was stacking the deck, setting the table and considerably raising the stakes.
  • Animal Motifs:
    • Centipedes, which are seen as impure in Japanese folklore, and legends about them frequently involve them nesting in corpses to reanimate them as a corruption of immortality by making it come from the body, as opposed to the Buddhist immortality of the soul/Atman. Him and Mahito even have a brief discussion about how they think the soul and the body are the same thing, and that it is only in Cursed Techniques that worldviews can be dictated for the individual.
    • Centipedes are also frequently used as the symbol for Gu/Kodoku rituals which his Culling Game closely resembles in having the Players kill one another to survive in an inclosed space in hopes that the last player surviving will revolutionize Cursed Energy. His trademark head stitches looks like a centipede, and most of his Mook Familiars take the form of centipedes, either as swarms or a single gigantic one to be used as a ramming projectile.
  • Archnemesis Dad: Choso completely loathes him for the abuse he put the Death Paintings' mother through. He's later shown to also be Yuji's archnemesis mom, having birthed him in one of his previous bodies seemingly for the purpose of turning him into a host for Sukuna.
  • The Assimilator: His brain transplant lets him take other sorcerers's abilities, and in Geto's body, he can also do this with strong enough Curses and then extract their techniques through the use of Maximum: Uzumaki.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: After becoming ungodly powerful by stacking his deck with cards like Cursed Spirit Manipulation and a host of Ancient Evils at his beck and call, with even more Cursed Techniques than that at his disposal, he effortlessly upsets the power balance of the Jujutsu Association and takes over the entire thing in a matter of days after the Shibuya Incident, ensuring that Jujutsu High wouldn't be seeing any backup from Headquarters.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: He comes out of the The Shibuya Incident as the only true victor, which is saying a lot. Gojo gets locked up indefinitely in the Prison Realm, much of Tokyo is left oversaturated with Cursed Energy, allowing Cursed Spirits to run wild, and the Jujutsu council folds neatly into his grasp mere days after the Incident occured, allowing Kenjaku to focus his full attention on his next scheme – the Culling Game.
  • Barrier Warrior: He is noted to be the second-strongest sorcerer in the world when it comes to creating and utilizing barrier techniques, a claim made by the number one strongest himself, Master Tengen. He is able to bend Tengen's enourmous barrier to produce whatever scenario he wants, including a cinema playing out bits and pieces of his endgoal on screen while explaining his motives to Choso, and deploy his Domain without closing off the barrier. He also foregoes closing the barrier of his Domain not just because he's skilled enough to, but because it makes it harder for Tengen to dissassemble when there's no physical barrier to target.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Alongside Sukuna. Although Sukuna is the ultimate physical threat faced by the heroes and Yuji's Arch-Enemy, Kenjaku is the one who put the events of the story into motion and, moreover, his ambitions are on a far greater scale than Sukuna's capricious sadism.
  • Body Surf: Has been hijacking other sorcerer's bodies for at least the last thousand and some years by swapping out their brains with his own and then stitching the skullcap back on. It lets him use their Cursed Techniques, Cursed Energy reserves, innate physical traits of theirs and allows him to skirt out on any penalties from Binding Vows he takes in their names by just acquiring a new body.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: His fight with Takaba somehow culminates in the two of them performing this for a studio audience. Hilariously, despite usually being the one making off-the-wall jokes, Takaba winds up playing the tsukkomi to Kenjaku's boke.
  • Brain Transplant: His personal technique lets him access the bodies of others, including corpses, by putting his brain into their skull. How exactly this is done is not clear, but it's probably best left to the imagination. Kenjaku even weaponizes this quirk of anatomy, as it lets him roll headshots off course by letting it hit the strings and pop the skullcap off to kill the impact.
  • Captain Ersatz: To Medusa from Soul Eater, both being a long-lived Mad Scientist and Evilutionary Biologist that utilized malevolent forces for their own ends (Madness and Insanity, Cursed Energy and Curses Spirits), are mainly responsible for a good chunk of the series (Medusa freeing the Kishin, Geto setting up and creating the Culling Games), were involved in the existence a major character whom they both gave birth to (Crona, Yuji and the Cursed Paintings, with Yuji having a foreign entity implanted into him that gives him his power and the Paintings having blood-themed abilities like the former) as part of an experiment on top of needing to possess someone's body for their continued plans.
  • Casual Danger Dialogue: Being a Motor Mouth by nature he frequently ends up talking his jowels off while casually ducking his opponent's ineffective attacks. His reaction to barely surviving being at the epicenter of a Black Hole was an exasperated "Whew. Gave me quite the scare there, honestly."
  • The Chessmaster: Upon revealing the extent of his plans to Yuki Tsukumo, the insane amount of machinations required to pull it off becomes apparent, having been working on his schemes for over 1000 years. He has been making binding vows with hundreds of sorcerers over the years to trap them within Cursed Objects that he has fed to 500 people throughout Japan. Subsequently he sought out 500 people who possess latent Cursed Techniques but no Cursed Energy to use them, marking both groups with his energy. He then awakens the potential of all 1000 people, creating Cursed Vessels and Curse Users to create a sizeable enough pool for his grand sacrificial ritual, the Culling Game - an undertaking which requires taking over swaths of Japanese cities and creating multiple huge barriers to serve as arenas for the player. After the opening phase of the Game is finished, it is revealed as he has also been meeting with world leaders of superpower nations such as China and the United States, involving their governments within his plot by manipulating them into attempting to capture sorcerers for military or energy purposes and be potential cannon fodder Points for the Players. And that is merely the current extent of his overall plan.
  • Chekhov's Skill: His focus and interest in board games and other entertainment activities with the Disaster Curses comes in handy when facing Fumihiko Takaba, as his Comedian completely nullifies any attempts Kenjaku makes to harm Takaba through direct violence or Cursed techniques whilst accumulating damage himself from the funny scenarios they're both subjected to. However, his understanding of modern comedy routines allows him to play along with Takaba's desire for comedy and ultimately end the situation through a successful Boke and Tsukkomi Routine.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Has no qualms about playing mind games with his enemies, or only stepping in a battle once his opponents are exhausted after fighting someone else.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Kenjaku explains to Yuji that this is one of the biggest advantages of Cursed Spirit Manipulation; He has no lack of powerful Cursed Spirits at his disposal due to being a purveyor of Ancient Evils and can use them in tandem, but even low-grade ones with interesting Techniques can become menaces in his hands by enhancing them with his own vast Cursed Energy and swarming his opponent with them. The combo of Cursed Spirit techniques he hits Yuji with in Shibuya borders on You Cannot Grasp the True Form, getting covered in damaging blood and swarmed by carnivorous centipedes, while simultaneously falling down a repeating sinkhole until he's eventually slammed into the ground with great force.
  • Control Freak: Confesses that his manipulative tendencies were ultimately holding back the progress of his experiments. To remedy this, he creates a dangerous and unstable new paradigm so he can learn from "chaos".
  • Cruel Elephant: One of his most powerful Cursed Spirits at disposal is a Special Grade diabolical-looking four-armed elephant in monk's robes and prayer beads around its wrists, which possesses a Technique based off of the Hindu deity Ganesha's ability as a "Remover of obstacles".
  • Dead Person Impersonation: Kenjaku makes some effort to pretend being Suguru Geto after taking his body, even to his Curse allies. He only reveals his false nature to Gojo, and this is after Gojo correctly guesses it.
  • Delayed "Oh, Crap!": He raises one eyebrow in dull curiosity when Yuki Tsukumo prepares her Fastball Special, only to briefly panic when it smashes his Elephant God to pieces and the follow-up punch snaps his arms like twigs while sending him flying. He is similarly incredulous when she grabs his ankle after he splits her in half, only to freak out when he realizes she's in the process of turning into a black hole, forcing him to think very fast.
  • Devour the Dragon: He literally devours Mahito at the end of the Shibuya Incident, showing up after he's severely weakened from his prolonged fight with Yuji and Todo, and absorbing him with Cursed Spirit Manipulation to take Idle Transfiguration for himself. Kenjaku states he would've liked to take Jogo's Technique too, but brushes off the Earth Curse's death as, "It is what it is".
  • Didn't See That Coming: He's lived for hundreds of years and spent most of that time learning and adapting alongside the times, but Fumihiko Takaba's Comedian is completely off-the-wall even for him. Kenjaku finds himself on the losing side of a "fight" that has him steadily racking up damage that is downplayed for Takaba himself, realising that he cannot actually defeat his opponent through violence or any of his accumulated Cursed Techniques. Ultimately, his lifetime of experience does allow him to escape his situation though a successful Boke and Tsukkomi Routine that satisfies Takaba's desire for comedy, but he's then blindsided and decapitated by Yuta the instant the technique ends, realising that Comedian ultimately distracted him from sensing the outside world, and Yuta's immense Cursed Energy approaching.
  • Dissonant Serenity: In stark contrast to the absolutely demonic Sukuna or incredibly twisted Mahito, Kenjaku is remarkably casual and a real chatterbox who always has a serene smile on his face. the Angel inside Kurusu calls him a "social butterfly with a forked tongue" for very good reason; he has compared the feeling of carrying out his plan to the feeling of being a toddler joyfully painting on a blank canvas despite it involving The End of the World as We Know It.
  • Domain Holder: Kenjaku's Domain depicts a ring of mutilated and stitched back together corpses of women hanging from a tree made of screaming faces, circled by a row of sitting entities covered in facial paint with a perfect cube cut out of the front of their heads for removing the brain, among other signs of mummification, an altogether horrifying affair by the name of "All-Encompassing Garbhadhatu". It seemingly allows Kenjaku to use his Gravity Master powers over anyone within range of its Sure-Hit Effect by just swinging his arm downwards, and like Sukuna, he can deploy it without closing off his barrier, allowing him to massively increase his Domain's effective range.
  • Dream Weaver: He is capable of entering people's dreams and interacting with them, doing so by creating a barrier within the space between reality and dream. He does this when he escorts civilians out of the Culling Game battlegrounds, having them sleepwalk out of the barriers and then wake up thinking their interaction with Kenjaku was All Just a Dream.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Played With. Despite his extremely important role in the story, orchestrating nearly every single major event in the past 240 chapters, Kenjaku's death is very abrupt and occurs with little fanfare. Yuta sneak attacks a weakened Kenjaku after his "fight" with Takaba, and then proceeds to kill Kenjaku for good by stabbing him in the brain, though not before Kenjaku gets one up on the heroes by transferring Tengen to Sukuna. Unlike many examples, however, Kenjaku's influence on the story doesn't end with his death, as the true extent of his machinations aren't elaborated on until after the man himself is dead.
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: Against almost anyone else Yuki's last resort of turning herself into a black hole would have been certain death, however Kenjaku's third technique is Antigravity System, which allows him to create fields that nullify the effects of gravity, by using his own body as a domain for the technique he is able to just barely survive.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Downplayed. While he considers the Death Paintings nothing but failed experiments and will stomp out Choso with a smile on his face while rubbing in how much the Death Paintings disappointed him, he's implied to hold some genuine affection for Yuji, telling the boy that he "expects great things" from him, and at one point genuinely thanking Sasaki for being friends with his son.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: As one accustomed to playing it safe over a long period of time, Kenjaku assumes that Yuki will take a moment to use Reverse Curse Technique to heal from the injuries he gave her which will give him time to reconstitute his domain. He is left genuinely shocked when she, severely wounded, chooses to attack him further instead for a chance at victory.
  • Evil Former Friend: Kenjaku refers to Tengen as an old friend until the two had a falling out. In the present day, he has no problem using her ascended form to forcibly merge everyone in Japan just to see what will happen.
  • Eviler than Thou: It's quickly made clear during the Shibuya Incident that he's far more dangerous than his Disaster Curse minions, something Mahito finds out the hard way after the Disaster Curses manage to help him seal Gojo. Word of God also stated in the Databook that Kenjaku was confident that he and his army of Curses could have taken on all of the Disaster Curses at once if it became necessary, and going by the stunts he's pulled off since then and Geto's Technique making him an impossible opponent for Cursed Spirits, that probably isn't an overstatement.
  • Evil Knockoff: His plan involves creating hundreds of lesser versions of the Sukuna/Yuji composite by forcing dozens of test subjects to ingest Cursed Objects, although he's also revealed to have been the one who purposefully "bred" Yuji to become Sukuna's vessel in the first place.
  • Evil Matriarch: A very interesting variation; it is revealed that Kaori Itadori, Yuji's mother, was a previous vessel of his, giving him a very twisted relation to the main protagonist.
  • Evil Mentor: He acts as one toward Mahito, teaching the young Curse concepts to help him better understand the world of Jujutsu Sorcery, mirroring the relationship of Gojo and Yuji. However, he only ever helped Mahito gain knowledge and strength to nurture his Technique so that it was potent enough for Kenjaku to use for his own ends, after absorbing him.
  • Evil Sorcerer: The evil sorcerer, if his reputation during his life as Noritoshi Kamo is anything to go by, and a much more straightforward example than Sukuna. Ancient and malevolent? Check. A prolific manipulator and schemer? Check. Vastly knowledgeable about and skilled in the local variety of Functional Magic? Check. Interested primarily in obtaining forbidden knowledge and conducting twisted experiments? Oh-so-very-much check...
  • Evilutionary Biologist: Kenjaku wants to optimize Cursed Energy and bring forth the peak of its potential, which he believes can't be found in humans as they are as he has already pushed that limit as far as it can go through vicious experimentation and allying with several cases of World's Best Warrior throughout the ages. To fix this, he's willing to commit abhorrent acts and has already been doing so in the shadows for centuries, and by the time of the main series, he's not above plunging the whole world into chaos in the name of discovering the next stage of humanity.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Kenjaku is seemingly killed when Yuta stabs Geto's skull with Kenjaku's true form inside it. He takes his defeat well, admitting he was glad he got to have fun fighting Takaba at the end, expresses confidence Tengen's merger will be initiated by Sukuna, and tells Yuta he hopes the merger proves to be amusing for the surviving heroes.
  • Familiar: He's gained this technique thanks to using the original Suguru's body. He has a greater handicap with it than Suguru in his prime, however, thanks to the original Geto losing all his curses in his battle with Yuta. On the other hand, Kenjaku is considerably more wizened and willing to experiment with the technique, meaning he's even more effective than the original, not to mention his age and experience have seen him gather a number of Curses of equal if not greater power than Geto's elite.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Kenjaku is rarely ever angry, spiteful, or cold, and keeps up a relaxed persona around allies and enemies alike. He expresses admiration for enemy sorcerers during combat, and even rambles at Yuji about the specifics of his technique, giving the impression of a playful Mad Scientist finally able to put all his wildest theories to the test. Despite having manipulated the Disaster Curses for his goals and planning to dispose of them in the end, he's nothing but courteous, patient, and amicable around them, even relaxing and playing games with them from time to time. Then it's revealed that he wants to merge all non-Sorcerers into eternal agony for his own amusement, revealing his true colors.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • He has strange markings on his forehead that were noticeably absent from Geto's appearance in 0 and Hidden Inventory. These are stitches, indicating the brain transplant that was used to hijack Geto's body. A somewhat recursive example occurs after and before this is revealed, as his previous identity of Noritoshi Kamo was initially shown with his forehead heavily obscured by shadows, only for Choso to remember a clearer image of him with the same tell-tale stitches across his forehead when he meets his current host, showing that they're the same person. Anybody else with such markings is all but certainly a previous host of his, including Yuji's mother.
    • If one had watched or read 0 before watching or reading the series proper, they might notice even before The Reveal that Kenjaku's behavior is completely inconsistent with Geto's characterization. Because while Geto was very open with Yuta about how his end-goal was the extermination of curses via committing genocide against humans, Kenjaku has no problem working with the Disasters Curses. Additionally, while Geto had a pretty wide range of emotions that he expressed freely, Kenjaku has Nerves of Steel to a crazy degree.
    • Once it becomes clear he also has control over gravity, the fact that the Prison Realm suddenly became heavy in his hands (with Kenjaku passing it off as the seal on Gojo not being completely finished yet) seems to have been an easy way for Kenjaku to get Mahito to run off so he could focus on his real plans.
  • For Science!: With a dash of For the Evulz. At least on the surface level, as he has consistently kept his cards very close to his chest, but Kenjaku espouses the wish to see Cursed Energy evolve to the next level, whatever form that might take, comparing the feeling of seeking out that unknown stage to that of a toddler drawing on a blank canvas. When Choso asks him what Kenjaku stands to gain from all the things he's doing, this is his response.
  • Gender Bender: Kenjaku's current body is male but one of the more recent ones was female. Specifically, Yuji's mother.
  • Go Out with a Smile: He's seemingly killed by Yuta Okkotsu in a surprise attack after having been weakened following his "fight" against Takaba. Despite not being able to see his 1000 years of machinations come to fruition, Kenjaku oddly takes it in strides and is smirking as Yuta stabs him through the forehead. It's likely because Kenjaku's still riding off the high he got from having so much with Takaba just a few moments prior.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Uses his current body's strengths to hide his true abilities so as to use them to advantage if what he's stolen fails him. Choso manages to force him to briefly use them to block an inescapable lethal attack, which greatly displeases Kenjaku.
  • Grand Theft Me: His Innate Technique allows him to control the bodies of others by swapping brains with them, giving him access to their Techniques and Cursed Energy as well.
  • Gravity Master: He possesses an Innate Technique known as Antigravity System that he stole from Yuji's mother Kaori, that lets him erect fields that negate gravity around for six seconds at a time, and can also create fields of increased gravity through Cursed Technique Reversal, Kenjaku furthers its use by combining this with his Elephant God (seemingly modelled on the Hindu deity Ganesha) Cursed Spirit's ability to "remove obstacles" to target large groups of people, first levitating them high up into the air before slamming them back into the ground. The first grim use of this makes fourty-five members of U.S Special Forces float into the air before slamming them into the ground at lethal speed while demonstrating the threat of Jujutsu to the White House cabinet.
  • Hidden Depths: Kenjaku is surprisingly well-versed in stand-up comedy, even being able to hold a conversation about it with Takaba.
  • History Repeats: Despite Kenjaku's extremely important role in the story, his death is very abrupt and occurs with little fanfare. It can be seen as something of a parallel with how Yuki Tsukumo, Kenjaku's ideological Foil, died in a similarly abrupt and to-the-point manner. However, just like Yuki with her soul research, Kenjaku's influence on the story continues even after his death, with the full extent of some of his machinations and the effect they had on the characters not coming to the forefront until Kenjaku himself is no longer living.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Kenjaku's ultimately defeated and decapitated thanks to the efforts of Fumihiko Takaba, a newly-awakened sorcerer that never would have gained his powers if not for the Culling Game. His own curiosity also plays a part, as he gets so caught up in the novel experience of Takaba's technique that he lets his guard down at the fight's conclusion, allowing Yuta to land the final blow.
  • Horrifying the Horror: During his and Mahito's final meeting when the former absorbs the latter, the Curse is utterly terrified of the sheer Dissonant Serenity Kenjaku possesses, and tried to flee.
  • Humanoid Abomination: As the second picture in his profile here shows, Kenjaku is really an ancient horrific brain with a mouth with fanged teeth that has somehow learned to nestle itself in other skulls and then stitch the skullcap back in place with surgical precision to pilot the body as if it were its own; Even to Gojo's Six Eyes, Kenjaku's Cursed Energy registers as Geto's.
  • Human Resources: He views humans as nothing more than sources of Cursed Energy, and is willing to perform all sorts of inhumane and vile acts against innocent people due to this view.
  • Human Shield: He’s quick enough on the draw to partially summon Curses to act as crude shields for his vital areas.
  • I Have Many Names: Took the identity of Suguru Geto and the ancestor Noritoshi Kamo in the past, and says that these are only a few of his names.
  • I Lied: Basically his response to Nanako and Mimiko demanding he uphold his end of their bargain by releasing Geto's body for all the help they provided him. He even tells them that they should have known better than to trust a sorcerer on his word without making a pact.
Kenjaku: Next time you make a promise with a sorcerer, I'd make sure that it's a Binding Vow.
  • Image Song: FAITH.
  • Immortal Genius: He's thousands of years old thanks to his Innate Technique, and his understanding of the nature of Cursed Energy and its applications dwarfs all of modern Jujutsu Society: He's accomplished things like creating hybrids of humans and Cursed Spirits and transplanting souls into different bodies.
  • Kick the Dog: Although the worst of Kenjaku's villainy either occurs offscreen or hides itself under a facade of good humor, Kenjaku shows a very cruel side when fighting Choso, his own son, and makes it clear just how much of a disappointment he finds him.
Kenjaku: You're just trying to reveal even a little of my Cursed Technique for Tsukumo Yuki, right? Unfortunately, I only plan on using Cursed Spirit Manipulation for you. With the low-grade Cursed Spirits at that. Or rather, there's simply no need to do more than that. Because you all are just failures!
Choso: What do you even know of my brothers?
Kenjaku: Oh, sorry did I hurt your feelings? I looked forward to you so much, and yet you disappointed me so. Maybe you can be proud of yourself for making me talk this much.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: Certainly looks the part in Geto's monk robes, and even among a cast of such he sticks out with vast prowess in both Jujutsu and Jujutsu. As described below, he's the premier bad guy when it comes to pure barehanded prowess.
  • It Amused Me: The crux of why Kenjaku does anything at all. He's motivated entirely by morbid curiosity, so while he may not know exactly what fruit his plans will bear, he's intent on seeing them through because he just wants to see what happens.
  • Lack of Empathy:
    • Doesn't seem to care in the slightest who gets hurt or killed for his goals. Unlike Mahito or Sukuna however, he's not an outright Sadist and rarely makes people suffer directly or kill them unless it's to further his plans. Those he does take an interest in should be very worried for their fate, as the woman bred upon for Cursed Spirit hybrids by "Noritoshi Kamo" can attest to.
    • Chapter 160 however, shows him personally escorting civilians out of the radius of the chosen sites for his Culling Game, giving them the choice to leave the site of what will soon become a killing field. Despite it being hinted that he's doing it primarily for Pragmatic Villainy, it still shows a marked contrast against both Sukuna and Mahito, the prior antagonists of the story, both of whom would have gleefully committed mass slaughter of human life for little to no reasoning, showing that whilst he might not care much for the lives lost during his plans, he won't go out of his way to cause unnecessary deaths either. As it turns out, this Pragmatic Villainy is actually just because he plans to merge these humans into a massive abomination of Cursed Energy— it simply doesn't serve a purpose for them to die there rather than later.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The guy who espoused his entire motivation for his actions to be a case of immense curiosity and wanted his companions to "not be boring" suffers an apparently-fatal injury thanks to being distracted by the funny and comedic scenarios conjured by Fumihiko Takaba's Comedian, distracting and entertaining him enough from the outside world that he cannot sense Yuta Okkotsu's approach, despite his immense Cursed Energy making him the easiest Sorcerer to track. Bonus points for Yuta technically finishing the job he started fighting against the original Geto, before Gojo delivered the Coup De grace.
  • Laughably Evil: Kenjaku may be planning to kill a hundred million people and fuse them together to create a giant curse, but his relaxed and sociable persona frequently has him cracking jokes and making attempts at comedy. He actually weaponizes this in his fight against Takaba, making him laugh with a goofy facial expression (Paired with a very mean-spirited "Reason You Suck" Speech) in order to destroy the man's self-confidence.]
  • Lightning Bruiser:
    • Another perk of acquiring Geto's body, since Geto could take out anyone short of a Special-Grade sorcerer or Toji with his bare hands. In Shibuya he snaps Miwa's katana in half with his palm after catching her surprise attack and walks Choso like a dog when they brawl. It's a testament to his abilities that he managed to reverse one of the series' infamous depictions of someone getting jumped two-on-one back onto Yuki and Choso without resorting to a last-minute power-up or yet another new ability up his sleeve.
    • This is further reinforced in a Q&A with Akutami, where he names Kenjaku as the physically strongest character measuring by grip strengthnote  and the most skilled hand-to-hand fighter in a battle without Cursed Energy or Techniques tied with Gojonote .
  • Locked Out of the Loop: He scoffs when Gojo insinuates that Yuta Okkotsu is as much of a threat to his plans as he is, stating that only he's been able to accomplish so much because he had Rika to fight his battles for him. This implies that he's unaware of where Yuta's power really comes from.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • Unlike Megumi who can de-summon his damaged Familiars to save them for another day and receiving benefits for his remaining ones when a Shikigami is permanently lost, Kenjaku's Cursed Spirits can be exorcised like any other Curse. Against a Sorcerer of Yuki Tsukumo's caliber, who can effortlessly destroy his Elephant God in one blow and has Anti-Magic-like properties while using her Technique that protect her from their powers, bringing out any further Cursed Spirits would just be giving up potentially valuable aces up his sleeves as Cannon Fodder, forcing him to fight using his Gravity Master powers and Domain instead.
    • Kenjaku might be immensely powerful, but he's still a parasitic brain in the very human Geto's cranium. If the brain can't send signals to the body then it doesn't matter how powerful you are anymore—Yuta exploits this by cutting off Kenjaku's head.
  • Loophole Abuse: He is masterful at finding clever workarounds to bypass the restrictions within the practice of Jujutsu, such as his circumvention of the Prison Realm's conditions to capture Gojo or the hundreds of Binding Vows created for the Culling Game that could be voided by hopping between vessels. This includes having set up the Game so that he himself doesn't have to be the Game Master, ensuring it will go on even if something was to happen to him. He ends up using Master Tengen to threaten his Kogane into accepting rules that would be self-destructive for the Culling Game by telling it he will simply use Tengen to just destroy the ancient barriers the Culling Game piggybacks off of if it doesn't comply.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: Kenjaku is Yuji's mother as he copulated with Jin Itadori, the reincarnation of Sukuna's unborn twin, after possessing the dead body of Jin's infertile wife Kaori. Kenjaku also took Kaori Itadori's Innate Technique with him after he changed bodies.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: He takes Yuta Okkotsu chopping his head off remarkably well, even managing to get out a few last words that even without him, his work will continue.
  • Man of Kryptonite: Kenjaku is this for Master Tengen, as Tengen is now more Curse than man because he failed to fuse with a Star Plasma Vessel in time, it’s become possible for him to be seized by Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Tengen fears that Kenjaku might absorb him the moment they meet one another.
  • Master of One Magic: Tengen states that, not including himself, Kenjaku is the single most skilled user of Barrier Techniques in the world.
  • Meaningful Name: "Kenjaku" is the name of a mystical rope in Buddhist mythology used by the goddess of mercy Kannon to drag the souls of men onto the path of enlightenment, just as Kenjaku himself pulls sorcerers into conflict in the hopes of forcing them to grow stronger and “evolve”. It's also phonetically identical to a portmanteau for "Evil Sage".
  • Manipulative Bastard: Sorcerers, humans, Curses, pregnant women, corpses, and even people who absolutely despise him and would try to kill him if they found out his real identity. Everything and everyone is a potential pawn to Kenjaku.
  • Motor Mouth: Kenjaku absolutely loves explaining his plans, and will go on long tangents about every last detail of his machinations, not seeming to notice when the person he's talking to isn't interested in what he's saying. Played for Laughs at one point where Kenjaku attempts to explain his plans for the Culling Game to Uraume, who by then has gotten tired of listening to him talk and tells him point-blank to do whatever he plans to do. Kenjaku's actually disappointed that they don't want to know how he plans to do it.
  • Nonchalant Dodge: Frequently, and exemplified when he avoids getting point-blank shot in the head with Choso's Piercing Blood by rolling his head with the impact like a boxer to let it snag his stitched-on skullcap, making it spin like a cork.
  • Off with His Head!: He's decapitated by Yuta Okkotsu in chapter 243. For good measure, Yuta skewers his brain shortly after.
  • Older Is Better: He has a number of ancient curses who are still rather potent in spite of scientific progress curbing the fears that spawned them. These include the Smallpox Curse, which despite the disease associated with it being all but eradicated by modern medicine still has immense amounts of power to see it through battles, or the Catfish Curse spawned from the old-timey belief that a giant underground catfish was the cause of earthquakes, which grants him the power to confuse and warp the perceptions of his enemies. His reveal of the Elephant God implies he might have several curses based on actual deities up his sleeve.
  • One-Man Army: Can slaughter soldiers en masse with his Gravity Master powers, and takes over Jujutsu society in a short timespan singlehandedly.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • The only time he drops his constant smile is when Yuki Tsukumo appears at the climax of the Shibuya Incident.
    • Despite how much Kenjaku loves explaining his plans in detail, when Choso asks him what his plans are for Yuji, Kenjaku suddenly becomes very vague and claims Yuji doesn't really have a role and says he was nothing more than a way to get things going, but then bizarrely implies that Yuji's continued existence is important for some unspecified reason. Considering that it's later revealed that Yuji's father, Jin Itadori, was the reincarnation of Sukuna's unborn twin brother, one certainly does get the impression that there's more to the story than Kenjaku claims.
Kenjaku: As long as that thing continues to exist with Sukuna, the cycle of curses will never end. He will become the eye of the storm for the new era.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: Overlaps with The Chessmaster. Although Kenjaku is extremely intelligent and his machinations have been going on since the Heian era, the story goes out of its way to highlight that his plans rely on certain factors that were entirely out of his control. Kenjaku himself outright admits that he never foresaw Riko Amanai being killed by Toji Fushiguro nor did he have any way to know that Satoru Gojo would refuse to destroy Suguru Geto's body—two conditions that proved to be vital for Kenjaku's ambitions. Overall, it can be said that although Kenjaku isn't omniscient, he's extremely good at taking advantage of every opportunity he has access to.
  • Perfect Disguise, Terrible Acting: He acts nothing like the actual Suguru Geto, and only manages to maintain his disguise for so long because he was smart enough to keep his distance from everyone who knew the real Geto personally. Internationally and within the Jujutsu Headquarters' archaic ways of thinking, it and his previously mentioned identity as "Noritoshi Kamo" allow him to act as if Hidden in Plain Sight and a genuine international Ambadassador of Jujutsu.
  • Personality Powers: The Chessmaster incarnate has three distinct abilities, and all of them revolve around an element of control; His Brain Transplant lets him control humans, both literally and figuratively, Geto's Cursed Spirit Manipulation lets him control Curses as he pleases, and his Antigravity System gives him control over a fundamental part of the universe to the point where he can ward off a black hole with it.
  • Pet the Dog: In Chapter 242, Kenjaku genuinely compliments Takaba for being hilarious during their "fight." It's quite possibly the only piece of genuine praise Takaba had received in his entire career.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Downplayed, as he normally acts very mature and composed and genuinely has an approach to the world and Jujutsu in particular like that of a seasoned doctorate researcher, but he entertains himself with games and comedy and he explicitly compares his curiosity to that of a toddler. He's still planning to merge all of humanity into a single Cursed Spirit, all because of that childish curiosity.
  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: One of Kenjaku's worst atrocities was forcibly impregnating a woman with Cursed Spirits to get the result he wanted, causing Choso and the Death Paintings to develop a grudge against him and tainting the name of Noritoshi Kamo forever. What's worse is that, with his view of people as Human Resources, he honestly couldn't care less about the whole affair and merely sees his horrific violation as part of experimentation; He finds Choso's obsession over the event that created the Death Paintings funny.
  • Red Right Hand: Stitches appear on the forehead of any body Kenjaku inhabits. Only those who can use Cursed Energy or see Curses can see the stitches however; to anyone else they just look like stigmata-like forehead scars.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Jujutsu society is already messed up on several levels, but this guy is by far the worst of the lot. After his plans start unfolding, no one not already on his side speak of him with nothing less than absolute revulsion. Cruel mindgames, wicked rituals, repeatedly raping a woman who sought Sacred Hospitality because she could produce Cursed Spirit-human hybrids For Science!, exploiting Jin Itadori's regret over not having a child with his first wifenote  to breed the Designer Baby Yuji... There is seemingly no taboo Kenjaku won't deliberately violate while skirting the consequences of in his quest for seeing how far Cursed Energy truly can go.
  • Revival Loophole: His unique ability to switch bodies allows him to make scores of Binding Vows, only to void them and their payments when he takes over a new corpse.
  • Running Both Sides: As he explains to Noritoshi, with his Body Surf and heaps of connections gathered over the centuries it should come as no surprise to the heroes that Kenjaku already had a vice grip on Jujutsu Headquarters, to the point where he could waltz in, eliminate the higherups that voted for "Suguru Geto's" execution order and made Yuta take Yuji's executioner order up again, then plonk himself in as Head of the Kamo Household through his old identity as Noritoshi Kamo to grasp power over the most powerful of the Conservative factions in the Association. Meaning the entire Association has been dancing in the palm of their greatest enemy's hand for centuries
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Appears to see Maximum: Uzumaki as this. Uzumaki combines any number of Cursed Spirits he has absorbed into a ball of Cursed Energy and throws the result at the opponent. It's devastatingly powerful, but Kenjaku says he initially found it unexciting, due to how it gets rid of the main advantage of Cursed Spirit Manipulation giving him functionally infinite varieties of attacks. He reveals, however, that using it on any curses that are Semi-Grade 1 or higher allows the user to steal that Curse's technique for a single use, allowing him to access Mahito's Idle Transfiguration to complete the preparations for the Culling Game. Against Yuki Tsukumo he also demonstrates that even a tiny Uzumaki can be deadly, and fired in rapid succession and prepared in secret by body-blocking his opponents with Cursed Spirits.
  • Superior Successor: "Successor" is entirely the wrong word here, but Kenjaku is far more adept at using Cursed Spirit Manipulation than Geto was, learning how to extract Cursed Techniques using Maximum: Uzumaki—an extremely versatile ability which Geto seemingly never figured out. On top of that, Kenjaku also knows Reverse Cursed Technique and has a Domain Expansion (an Open Domain at that), neither of which Geto seemed to possess.
  • Superpower Lottery: His Body Surf Innate Technique is already useful by itself, but its greatest advantage is that it gives Kenjaku the entirely unique ability to break Binding Vows without suffering a single negative repercussion, which is thought to be impossible by most sorcerers and has made it very easy for him to manipulate people. He specifically sought out Geto's body to acquire Cursed Spirit Manipulation, a Cursed Technique with the same level of potential as Gojo's Infinity, and then he reveals that he can use the Techniques of the Curses he eats for a single use on top of having a Gravity Master Technique up his sleeve.
  • Tell Me How You Fight: Kenjaku's fighting style is remarkably different than the original Geto's. This is especially visible in the Anime-expanded spar with Choso: whereas the original Geto fought hand-to-hand using weapons like nunchaku to chase the enemy agressively, Kenjaku mostly fights defensively, avoiding enemy attacks and using their strength. Furthermore, Kenjaku's use of Spirit Manipulation is also different, being more strategic and calculated.
  • Tempting Fate: Near the end of the Culling Game, Kenjaku remarks that nearly all of the new-generation sorcerers awakened by the game's influence are worthless compared to the reincarnated veterans. Enter Fumihiko Takaba.
  • Time Abyss: Very likely the oldest being alive. One of the sorcerers he resurrected for the Culling Game came from the Yayoi period, suggesting the possibility that Kenjaku was active as far back as 300 BC..
  • Unconventional Learning Experience: Word of God says that him playing boardgames and sports and similarly innocuous activities with the Disaster Curses is meant to be this; It's an easy and reliable way to introduce them to rules and concepts like having to think up a solution on the fly to complex Techniques or the rules of a battle changing on the fly due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Kenjaku prides himself on his knowledge but even he has his blind spots: specifically Yuta Okkotsu, due to the fact that his knowledge comes from Geto he genuinely believes that Rika is the one responsible for the young sorcerer's power. In a fine bit of Dramatic Irony Yuta ends up being the one to kill him.
  • Viler New Villain: Zig-zagged. He freely admits that he lacks Geto's Well-Intentioned Extremist motivations, but he's much less malicious than the sadistic Disaster Curses or Sukuna. It's played straight when his master plan is revealed to be using Tengen to assimilate everyone in Japan just out of scientific curiosity and amusement.
  • Villain Respect:
    • He forms a sincere and surprising respect for Takaba, admitting that he seriously considers him hilarious and their battle being some of the most fun he's had in a long time. Even after Yuta seemingly kills Kenjaku, his final words are admitting that while it was not a thousand years worth of fun, he was glad he got mess around with Takaba at the end.
    • Played with in regard to Yuji, his own son. As far as his plans for the merger go, Kenjaku openly admits that Yuji was pretty much just there to be a smoke signal that got everything moving. However it's indicated that, his plans aside, Kenjaku still sees Yuji as a highly fascinating experiment who he wants to see realize his potential For Science!. At the end of Shibuya, Kenjaku seems to take satisfaction in Yuji's durability and before leaving tells Yuji that he has high expectations for the boy, a sentiment which is reinforced by how Kenjaku callously dismisses Choso for being a "disappointment." Considering that Uraume in chapter 257 inwardly expresses that Yuji just might have potential on par with Sukuna, it's clear that Kenjaku's machinations with Yuji definitely paid off.
  • Walking Spoiler: He's difficult to talk about without revealing that he's actually a disembodied brain with teeth wearing Geto's corpse like a suit.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: He had his eye on at least two of the Disaster Curses he was working with, and given how Dagon and Hanami were friends with his targets, he was probably planning to get rid of them, too. Though it's zigzagged in that they didn't outlive their usefulness so much as they did reach a point where they would be more useful to Kenjaku as additional fighters in his arsenal.note

Geto's Original Followers

    In General

Geto's original found family of sorcerers who worked with him during the events of 0.

  • The Bus Came Back: The entire group eludes capture during the events of 0. They aren't seen again until Shibuya.
  • Evil Is One Big, Happy Family: Geto refers to the group as his family and he genuinely views them all as such. The sorcerers in his faction share this view, but that doesn't mean they're above conflict with each other.
  • Super Supremacist: All of them go along with Geto's plan to wipe out all non-sorcerers to make sorcerers the dominant humans on the planet. It varies from member to member whether they believe in Geto's ideology or are just driven by personal loyalty to him.
  • Undying Loyalty: The one thing that unites the group is their devotion to Suguru Geto. After his death, the group is splintered between those who stay neutral now that Geto's dead, those who oppose Kenjaku for possessing Geto's corpse, and those who side with Kenjaku believing that the world Kenjaku wants to create comes closest to fulfilling Geto's wish for a world of only sorcerers.

Cursed Technique: Cursed Spirit Manipulation

Click here to see him in the Hidden Inventory arc
"I don't like monkeys. That's the truth I chose."

The real Suguru Geto, former student of Jujutsu High and former best friend of Satoru Gojo. In order to rid the world of Cursed Spirits, he planned to completely exterminate non-sorcerers.

During the events of Volume 0, he released multiple powerful spirits at Shinjuku and Kyoto. He then invaded Jujutsu High in order to take control of Yuta Okkotsu's Guardian Entity Rika, but was defeated by Yuta and later killed by Gojo. His body was stolen some time later.

His Cursed Technique was "Cursed Spirit Manipulation", which allowed him to absorb and control curses.

  • Affably Evil: To those he respects, even after his Start of Darkness, Geto is laid back, well-spoken, and often smiling. He doesn't take his frustration out on anyone, and is even not above casual conversation. When he's around people he wants to manipulate or harm, however, he slips into Faux Affably Evil.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Geto was one of the worst Curse-Users to have ever lived, but his death at the hands of Gojo is a somber affair. He expresses joy that his found family of sorcerers escaped the war he started, admits he never felt any ill-will towards almost everyone at Jujutsu High, and shares one last joke and a sincere smile with his best friend, Gojo, before the latter kills him.
  • Apologetic Attacker: Geto admits he really doesn't want to kill Yuta, and wishes the boy could live to see the new world he wants to create, but Geto can't create that utopia without Rika's power and he can't absorb Rika until Yuta is dead.
  • Arc Villain: Serves this role as the main villain of the prequel arc, titled Jujutsu Kaisen 0, with all of Jujutsu High working to stop him. While he is defeated, his ultimate fate is ambiguous. The main series confirms Gojo killed him then.
  • Ax-Crazy: Suguru absolutely lost it after becoming a Curse-User, regularly watching his Cursed Spirits butcher non-sorcerers with a serene smile on his face.
  • Bad Samaritan: Geto would remove the curses plaguing non-sorcerers who visited his church free of charge, not out of the goodness of his heart, but to bind the curses to his will with the goal of using them to eventually wipe out all non-sorcerers.
  • Baddie Flattery: After defeating Inumaki and Panda in 0, Geto compliments them both on their bravery and selflessness in rushing in to aid their friend, Yuta, saying creating a world of such jujutsu sorcerers is exactly what he wants.
  • Bash Brothers: Was this with Gojo as Jujutsu High students, with the two going on missions together and the pair called "the strongest".
  • The Beastmaster: His Cursed Technique makes him this with Curses.
  • Became Their Own Antithesis: As a high schooler Geto originally believed it's the duty of the strong to protect the weak, specifically it's the duty of himself and his fellow jujutsu sorcerers to put their lives on the line to protect non-sorcerers. After a series of tragedies befall him and Geto sees the "ugliness" of the weak, his personal philosophy does a complete 180. By the time of 0, Geto's goal is to wipe out all "weak" non-sorcerers and build a world made up entirely of "strong" jujutsu sorcerers.
  • Best Served Cold: In a downright Monte Cristo-like act of vengeance, one of the first things he does after abandoning Jujutsu High is to take over the very Time Vessel Association that ruined his worldview and put the hit on Riko in the first place, brutally slaughter their leader Sonoda Shigeru in front of their entire leadership and group of sponsors, and then ask if there were any objections to him becoming the head of the very group that caused his Start of Darkness with immediate effect.
  • Bloodbath Villain Origin: Geto began to believe that the solution to stopping the creation of cursed spirits was to kill all non-sorcerers after he began to look down on non-sorcerers and witnessed the deaths of sorcerers who tried to exorcise cursed spirits such as Yu. He started to act on it when on a mission the villagers wanted him to kill two young sorcerers, causing him to massacre all 112 of the village's inhabitants. In strict adherence to his belief, Geto even killed his own non-sorcerer parents.
  • Broken Ace: He was touted as one of the two strongest sorcerers of Jujutsu High, alongside Gojo, but ultimately, a mixture of factors, including witnessing the cruelty of normal people towards sorcerers, seeing one too many comrades fall in battle against cursed spirits, his growing jealousy towards Gojo's overwhelming power, severe overwork, and, most importantly, his failure to save Riko ended up twisting him into an ironically charming sociopath with no empathy towards Muggles and a drive to exterminate them all in order to create a curse-free world.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: Curses he defeats turn into small black orbs which he then has to eat in order to take control of them. The caveat being that curses taste like rags covered in vomit. Which he doesn't enjoy. He's eaten them over six-thousand times.
  • Dead All Along: Though Gojo appears to confront him at the end of Volume 0 and asks for his final words, his fate is ultimately left open, and he returns at the beginning of the main series with stitches across his head, leading one to believe he simply recovered offscreen. Upon meeting Gojo in Shibuya, the present-day Suguru reveals he is in fact a different being using a technique to control Geto's body, confirming Gojo had killed him then.
  • Declaration of Protection: When he gives Riko Amanai the choice to either go through with her Merger of Souls with Tengen or escape to live her own life, Geto declares that he and Gojo will protect her no matter what choice she makes, even if it means going against all the higher-ups of the Jujutsu world. This really emphasizes what a good guy he used to be and just how much Riko's Surprisingly Sudden Death immediately afterwards affected him.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Geto is a special grade sorcerer and is universally considered to be one of the strongest sorcerers of his generation behind Satoru Gojo. With that in mind, Geto bizarrely lacks several tools in his arsenal which are more or less the norm among the series' top tiers such as Reverse Cursed Technique, anti-domain techniques, or a Domain Expansion. However, this can more or less be explained away with by the fact that Geto debuted and died in Volume 0 before author Gege Akutami likely had the power system fully fleshed out.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Pale skin, long black hair, and a curse user who can summon monstrous cursed spirits and wants to massacre all non-sorcerers.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones:
    • Geto views the jujutsu sorcerers under his command as his family instead of minions. He expresses delight over them all reunited back in one place and is relieved when Gojo tells him all of them escaped the Night Parade. In particular, Geto rescued Nanako and Mimiko when they were children, raised them like they were his daughters, and dotes on them, at one point taking them out for crepes at Nanako's insistence despite her desired destination being filled with "monkeys."
    • Even though they're on opposite sides of a war, it's clear that Suguru never stopped caring about his best friend, Satoru Gojo. Not only is he completely at peace when Gojo arrives to kill him, but during the Shibuya Incident, Gojo's words are enough to cause Geto to momentarily seize control of his body back from Kenjaku and attempt to kill the curse user, something Kenjaku himself admits no one has ever been able to do before.
  • Evil Former Friend: Gojo's. The two were best friends until Geto's loss of faith in the cycle of exorcism led him to decide to kill all non-sorcerers. Even when the two are waging war against each other, Geto and Gojo still clearly love each other, with Gojo calling him his best and only friend.
  • Evil Is Petty: He sprays air freshener all over himself after meetings with non-sorcerers because he doesn't want to catch their "monkey stink".
  • Face Death with Dignity: Gravely wounded following his fight with Yuta, Geto is found by Gojo, and knows he's going to be killed by him. Despite this, Geto reacts to his impending death with relief that his "family" escaped and admits he never bore any hatred for Gojo or anyone else at Jujutsu High.
  • "Facing the Bullets" One-Liner: In response to Gojo's final words to him, which the audience never hears, Geto cracks a joke, asking for Gojo to at least curse him at the end.
  • Face–Heel Turn: The Hidden Inventory arc shows that Geto used to be a hero and all-around Nice Guy. He may have had some Good Is Not Soft qualities that he shared with Gojo, but he always wanted to do the right thing, even if it meant defying his superiors. A series of cruel and unnecessary deaths, along with his own growing feelings of hopelessness and doubt drive him towards his heel turn.
  • Fallen Hero: Geto used to be a jujutsu sorcerer who believed it was his duty, as someone strong, to protect non-sorcerers from curses and curse-users. That changed after Geto found out curses are only created by non-sorcerers and repeated exposure to humanity at its worst caused Geto to develop a genocidal hatred of non-sorcerers, believing only their eradication could lead to a world where sorcerers aren't in danger of curses.
  • Familiar: Control over these is Geto's signature brand of cursed technique. He can tame lower-level spirits by compacting them into a ball and ingesting them, gaining the ability to call upon them in battle.
  • Fantastic Racism: Hates all non-sorcerers due to accidentally perpetuating the rise of Curses, even calling them monkeys behind their back, or, in Maki's case, to her face.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Though he remains laid-back and neutral at the absolute worst to his old friends and those he works with, Geto appears to mask a tranquil fury and spite when faced with people he wishes to manipulate or harm, sometimes brutally ending their lives.
  • Fighting from the Inside: Despite having been killed, he is revealed to still be alive deep down due to the nature of the second Geto using his body for possession. His body twitches and briefly reacts to Gojo speaking to him by grapping himself by the collar, and the second Geto mentions that this is a first. Word of God compares this to the post-mortem twitches of an animal or insect, implying this was a one-time thing.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: His Cursed Technique requires him to literally consume Cursed Spirits to use them as his familiars, with Cursed Spirits literally being the worst feelings and beliefs of humanity given physical form. He compares eating them to choking down a dirty rag used to clean up shit and vomit. After the events of the Hidden Inventory arc, the increase in Gojo's power meant that he and Geto were sent out alone on missions, forcing him to confront humanity's worst aspects over and over again until he found out Curses are only born from non-sorcerers, and decided the best way to wipe out Cursed Spirits altogether and save all sorcerers is to kill off every non-sorcerer.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: His Maximum: Uzumaki technique is essentially this. By converting any number of Cursed Spirits under his command into raw Cursed Energy, he can unleash the resulting projectile as a devastatingly destructive blast.
  • Kick the Dog: Although Geto makes it clear that he never intended to kill any young sorcerers at Jujutsu High, it's all but stated that Maki doesn't fall under his definition of "sorcerer." When Yuta encounters her, Inumaki, and Panda injured after being beaten by Geto, Yuta notes that Maki is especially hurt and might even die from her injuries. Furthermore, Geto has open contempt for the girl and directly calls her a "failure" to her face. One does have to wonder if she reminds him just a bit too much of a certain other Heavenly Restriction user from the Zen'in clan...
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: Male example. He wears an opulent kesa (robes of Buddhist monks) and has no problem showing off his martial skills in close combat.
  • Irony: A sorcerer who consumed and exploited curses has been himself assimilated, with his body now a puppet for a villain using his identity and powers for their own ends. Furthermore, his use of "monkey" as a derogative term for Muggles only came about after Toji, who has no Cursed Energy, beat his ass in a Curb-Stomp Battle and then mocked him and Gojo for being defeated by a mere "Jujutsu-less monkey".
  • Mage Born of Muggles: Ironically, his parents were ordinary people from the countryside with no ties to the world of Curses, yet Geto had The Gift for both Jujutsu and martial arts. His parents ended up some of his first victims.
  • Man in a Kilt: His Buddhist robe ensemble includes a pleated skirt worn over his puffy pants.
  • Meaningful Name: Suguru literally means "superior being".
  • Misanthrope Supreme: After a series of experiences pertaining to the loss of multiple innocent lives and the increasing feeling of a lack of purpose behind his occupation, Geto became so disillusioned with humanity that he slowly began to slip into this, culminating in him exterminating an entire village on his final mission. Notable is that his hatred is directed primarily towards non-Jujutsu sorcerers, rather than humanity as a whole.
  • Monster Protection Racket: It's heavily implied Suguru curses wealthy non-sorcerers so that they donate handsomely to his church in exchange for being "cured." In reality, it only buys these people time and when the curses "returns" they either keep paying Suguru for a cure or Suguru lets his curses finally kill them, as shown by letting his curses violently kill a former donor, Kanemori, when his funds dried up.
  • Mythical Motifs: He's styled as an evil bodhisattva, a person on the path to Buddhahood. Geto has his "enlightenment" when he chooses to kill all non-sorcerer humans for being inferior and responsible for the existence of cursed spirits. Chapter 70's color page has him drawn as a bodhisattva with an inverted mudra, representing how he offers no salvation, and he amasses a group of loyal followers. Visually, he wears Buddhist monk robes and has large, pierced ear lobes. Chapter 0-3 has a woman compare him to the Buddha himself.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: If he wasn't from the same generation that produced Gojo, he would possibly be the greatest Sorcerer of the modern day with a Technique that could change the world of Sorcerers entirely. Due to feeling overshadowed by Gojo's ascent to the true World's Strongest Man, and his own dwindling enthusiasm for the Jujutsu Sorcerer profession because of Muggles feeling ungrateful for the hard work of Sorcerers (if not outright unknowing), he ends up becoming one of the greatest calamities the Jujutsu world would ever see. Including post-mortem.
  • Parental Substitute: After saving Nanako and Mimiko when they were kids from the non-sorcerers who were torturing them, he took them in and essentially adopted them as his surrogate daughters with the two forming an undying love and devotion to him as a result.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite how ruthless he is, he actually took in and helped raise Nanako and Mimiko after utterly slaughtering the village that was persecuting them. Years later, the two are still deeply loyal to him because of it.
  • Please Kill Me if It Satisfies You: He acknowledges that he stands absolutely zero chances against Gojo, but having just delivered Gojo the reality check of a lifetime, Gojo doesn't go through with it.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Extremely bigoted towards non-Sorcerers, which outside of the obvious ugliness of it has rather uncomfortable implications with later revelations that most of the Sorcerers in the world are Japanese with parties like Miguel and his tribe being outliers.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: During his time as a Curse User, he posed as a kindly priest who liberated curses from civilians. Despite holding them in contempt, he treated the people who came to him for help with understanding and compassion, allowing them to leave unharmed after exorcising their curses so they could spread word about him. By cultivating his reputation in this way, he effectively ensures he'll have a steady stream of people to bring him curses to absorb and offer substantial financial donations to further fund his goals. It's also implied that he actively seeks out wealthy patrons and sics his curses on them so they'll come to him for aid and, once he's exhausted all their funds, allows his curses to devour them.
  • Self-Made Orphan: When confronted about his killing shortly after his betrayal, it's revealed that one of Geto's first victims were his parents. As he admits, if he's going to slaughter the majority of humanity, he can't make compromises on emotional attachments.
  • Sanity Slippage: He's much less in control of himself in 0 then he was during the Hidden Inventory arc. doing things like crying hysterical tears when he sees sorcerer youth risk themselves for Yuta.
  • Slasher Smile: Sports a wide, crazed smile on his face throughout his battle with Yuta and his classmates.
  • Son of an Ape: Geto is fond of calling non-Jujutsu sorcerers "monkeys", indicative of how strongly he looks down on them. He actually appropriated the insult from Toji Fushiguro. Toji was a non-sorcerer born under a Heavenly Pact that made him completely deprived of Cursed Energy in exchange for super-human physical abilities, and after murdering Riko, nearly killing Gojo and critically wounded Geto, he mocked Geto for losing to a "jujutsu-less monkey" like him.
  • Start of Darkness: Riko's tragic death and the cruel circumstances surrounding it are what make Geto lose his faith in humanity, starting him on the path to becoming a Misanthrope Supreme.
  • Starter Villain: For the series as a whole. He only shows up in the Volume 0 prequel and Gojo's Past flashback arc, but his debut happens in the former and he's the first antagonist the series ever introduces.
  • Stepford Smiler: Geto almost constantly sports a cheerful grin on his face during his days as a curse user to match his lighthearted and unhinged new persona. He admits to Gojo before his death that he's actually extremely depressed, stating that he "can't smile from the bottom of his heart in a world like this." It's implied that his last smile in response to Gojo's hidden words was a genuine one.
  • Superpower Lottery: Cursed Spirit Manipulation is an incredibly powerful and versatile technique that allows Geto access to a innumerable variety of cursed spirits (including at least two special-grade curses, and one more in 0) to deal with almost any situation imaginable, giving him practically unlimited varieties of Combo Platter Powers through their abilities. Weaker cursed spirits can be absorbed instantly without any other conditions, and any curse exorcised by Geto "drops" a little sphere he can then consume. Not only that, it's a technique with virtually limitless potential since, by all indications, there seems to be no limit to how many curses he can absorb. By the time of Volume 0, he had amassed up to 6,462 curses in his arsenal, and didn't seem too bothered that he had to use several thousand of those in a single Uzumaki shot against Yuta.
  • Super Supremacist: Despite starting out as more idealistic and principled than Gojo, years of sacrifice and loss in the name of protecting humanity embittered Geto towards what he perceived to be an ungrateful mass of idiots. Losing friends and colleagues to Curses while regular humans remained ignorant at best and dismissive at worst of their sacrifice eventually led Geto to begin despising non-sorcerers as a whole, derogatively referring to them as "monkeys". Struggling with these feelings at first, he eventually embraces them and removes the last obstacle he might have had in committing to his genocidal plans.
  • Tragic Bromance: With Gojo. The two were best friends as students until Riko Amanai's death and the countless cycle of exorcism all for non-sorcerers like the ones who applauded Riko's death led Geto to lose his faith, vowing to kill all non-sorcerers to create a world of only sorcerers without curses. Geto's betrayal greatly both angered and saddened Gojo. This eventually led to Gojo killing Geto during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, with Gojo still calling him his one and only best friend after doing so. Geto's death allowed for Kenjaku to take over his body, a turn of events that lead to Gojo getting sealed in the Shibuya Incident.
  • Tragic Villain: Geto was once a morally upstanding sorcerer and Gojo's best friend. However, his faith in humanity was gradually worn down by the cruelty of non-sorcerers, Gojo's apparent growth and them being inadvertently responsible for many of the curses. It breaks upon seeing two innocent girls abused for having cursed techniques. Geto only truly wanted to ensure his fellow sorcerers didn't end up going down as he saw the marathon of jujutsu sorcery as being an endless affair that would eventually take away all of his comrades, and his defection ended up turning him firmly against the very friends he sought to protect. When's finally defeated he spends his last moments admitting that despite everything, he still cared his former friends.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Geto's Start of Darkness began with Riko's death. In the following year, Geto struggled to deal with his increasing lack of purpose and growing disdain for non-Sorcerers, while Gojo mastered his Limitless technique and definitively became stronger than Geto. Through Yuki Tsukumo he learned that it's non-sorcerers who produce Cursed Spirits simply by existing, exacerbating his ire. Soon after, fellow sorcerer Yu Haibara died due to a clerical error that mislabeled the grade of a Cursed Spirit. The last straw was finding out that a village was abusing two little girls and blamed them for the Curses that plagued them, at which point he snapped, murdered the entire village, and decided to solve the Cursed Spirits problem by starting a campaign to kill every non-Sorcerer in the world.
  • Villains Out Shopping: He's not above taking selfies with his secretary or taking his surrogate daughters out for crepes in-between declaring war on Jujutsu High and plotting the genocide of all non-sorcerers.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: His goal is to kill all regular humans due to them not being able to control their Cursed Energy, which would prevent Cursed Spirits from being created and consequently end the cycle all jujutsu sorcerers are trapped in. As he admits to Gojo, he simply doesn't want to see anyone's smile disappear.
  • We Used to Be Friends: He used to be best friends with Gojo, taking on many missions together during their time at the college. Gojo leaving Geto in the dust with his power, as well as Geto's own slipping sense of self lead to him eventually defecting as a sorcerer. Even after killing Geto following his defeat by Yuta, Gojo still calls him his one and only best friend.
  • Would Hurt a Child: It goes without saying that he's willing to kill children, since he wants to wipe out all non-sorcerers but a specific instance comes in 0 when Geto unleashed a cursed spirit on an elementary school, nearly causing the death of two students. However, Geto proves more reluctant to kill child sorcerers, as Gojo only sent Inumaki and Panda to help Yuta because he—correctly—guessed Geto would spare them, not wanting to cut short the lives of promising young sorcerers.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Any members of his "church" who don't provide him with regular donations end up being killed by his curses.

Cursed Technique: Hakuna Laana

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miguel_jjk_0.png

A powerful foreign sorcerer and one of Geto's most trusted lieutenants. Wielding a powerful Cursed Tool known as the Black Rope, Miguel is specifically picked out by Geto to confront Satoru Gojo himself and proves to be up to the task.

  • Affably Evil: He comes off as rather calm and respectful of his opponents and dedicated and loyal to his comrades. Later on, he seems to interact with Yuta in a genuinely friendly manner. Furthermore, although Miguel is genuinely loyal to Geto and considers him a friend, he still acknowledges after his death that Geto really wasn't a good person.
  • Anti-Magic: The Black Rope, a special grade Cursed Tool passed down by generations of Miguel's sorcerer clan, had the ability to disrupt and cancel out Cursed Techniques. It was one of the primary reasons why Miguel was selected to challenge Gojo to begin with.
  • Ambiguous Situation: We never get to see how exactly the fight between him and Satoru ended and why exactly he is now helping Gojo and Okkotsu out, not even if his help is willing or not.
  • The Bait: His ultimate role during the Night Parade of One Hundred Demons is to stall Satoru Gojo to allow Geto the time he needs to enact his main plan.
  • Big Damn Heroes: He makes his return saving Ui Ui from Sukuna after the former appeared to teleport Kusakabe to safety.
  • The Bus Came Back: Miguel makes a surprise return to the series during the final battle against Sukuna, being the next sorcerer willing to take on the King of Curses after Kusakabe was defeated.
  • Cool Shades: Following the custom of many sorcerers who keep their eyes concealed, Miguel's always seen wearing a pair of black sunglasses.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Though beating Gojo was never an option for Miguel and he gets heavily pummelled during their fight, managing to continuously distract and tie down the strongest sorcerer in the world should be considered no less of an achievement. Miguel is considered to be the "Most Valuable Player" by Akutami himself for this.
  • Dance Battler: His Cursed Technique requires him to keep a beat with his body, so long as he dances he buffs himself by enhancing his physical strength and debuffs his enemies by driving away curses.
  • Deadpan Snarker: It isn't too apparent at first, but once he pops in during the final fight against Sukuna, Miguel turns out to have a surprisingly snarky personality.
  • The Dragon: Acts this way for Geto during the Night Parade of One Hundred Demons, being specifically charged with keeping Gojo busy while Geto enacts his own scheme.
  • Dodge the Bullet: When fighting Sukuna, Miguel breakdances through several dismantles while still keeping up the rhythm needed for his cursed technique.
  • Easily Forgiven: Following his Heel–Face Turn, Miguel seems to get on rather well with Yuta, the latter’s role in Suguru’s death notwithstanding. Yuta, likewise, seems to treat Miguel in a friendly manner despite his previous allegiances.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After Geto’s death, Gojo eventually gets Miguel to accompany and guide Yuta on his journey to Africa. Taking care of Yuta was part of a deal he made in order to not be punished for his actions in Shinjuku.
  • Made of Iron: In terms of pure physical capabilities, Miguel is genuinely stellar, which is only enhanced by his Cursed Technique buffing himself while debuffing his opponent. Gojo in a flashback says he thinks Miguel is so strong because he's black, to which Miguel calls him out for being racist.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Part of what makes Miguel's cursed energy reinforcement so effective is the fact that he's already very powerfully built with top-tier athletic prowess. Reinforcement amplifies his physical abilities to a much greater extent then it would someone thinner and smaller which, combined with his Cursed Technique that buffs him further while weakening his opponent, makes Miguel an absolute monster in hand to hand.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Miguel only went along with Geto's schemes because he was personally loyal to him and wanted him to be "king." Miguel's dialogue with Larue long after Geto's death implies he knew exactly how monstrous Geto's genocidal aspirations were even somberly saying it's much more likely Geto's in hell than in heaven.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Is subjected to a rather ruthless one by a very frustrated Gojo once the latter realizes his own Cursed Technique won’t work against Miguel.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Though his fight with Gojo mostly happens off-screen, it must have been quite spectacular given Miguel effectively stall the World's Strongest Man for minutes on end. The anime adaptation expands upon their fight, but neither version portrays the fight’s resolution. It is also Awesome enough for Gege Akutami himself to declare Miguel - "Most Valuable Player" for his efforts against Gojo.
  • Opposed Mentors: Gojo eventually charges Miguel with accompanying Yuta on a mission to Africa, and while the two get on surprisingly well, this does nothing to alleviate Miguel’s dislike for Gojo.
  • Put on a Bus: After the events of Volume 0, Miguel and Yuta end up travelling to Africa in search of more Black Rope. While Yuta has since returned to the main storyline, Miguel remains absent from Japan, at least until the final battle against Sukuna.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: After the Night Parade of 100 Demons, Miguel decides he's done with Japan. It takes some convincing to get him to come back and face Sukuna. Though he fights Sukuna 1 on 1 for a bit, he decides to duck out once Larue gets hit with a Black Flash and their lives are threatened, but to Miguel's credit he did do what was asked of him and held Sukuna off when things were at their lowest for the heroes.
  • Undying Loyalty: He followed Geto because he wanted him to rule the world, not because he believed in his cause. Larue convinces Miguel to fight Sukuna as a way to mourn Geto.
  • Utility Weapon: The way he uses the Black Rope is similar to a whip in combat, though he can also use it to grapple objects or pull himself out of a rough spot.

Mimiko (left) and Nanako (right)

Twin orphan girls who serve under Suguru Geto after he rescued them as young children.

  • Actor Allusion: They are casted by two real twin sisters for the 0 movie.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: They're cruelly killed off by Sukuna, after their desperate plea of revenge against the person who hijacked Geto's body.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: In their hometown, the two girls were treated poorly by everyone else in the village, blamed for the deaths and disappearances within it and locked in a cage.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Both are brutally killed by Sukuna for daring to order him around; Mimiko is decapitated and Nanako is diced into small cubes.
  • Cute and Psycho: Both are cute girls that have very twisted and violent tendencies. Ijichi is left disturbed by their Troubling Unchildlike Behavior after he encounters them during the events of Volume 0.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: The pair of them view Geto as a father figure for rescuing them from their abusive village and willingly follow along with his genocidal aspirations to eradicate all non-sorcerers.
  • Defiant to the End: Nanako attempts to kill Sukuna to avenge her sister after he takes her head off. Obviously, it doesn't go well but points for effort.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Trying to ransom one of Sukuna's fingers in exchange for a favor wasn't the best move in hindsight. Although, considering that this is Sukuna we're talking about, he probably would've killed them anyway even if they didn't piss him off.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: They first appear during the prequel Volume 0 as minor subordinates of Geto, and don't become relevant to the main story until Chapter 93.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: In addition to loving Geto for saving their lives and raising them, the twins also love and care about each other. When Mimiko is murdered by Sukuna, Nanako immediately goes ballistic and tries to kill the King of Curses himself despite being so terrified of him that she was scared to breathe in his presence mere moments ago.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: They fed Itadori some of Sukuna's fingers to summon him and request that Sukuna kill the Geto impostor. Too bad that Sukuna becomes furious at them ordering him around and kills them without hesitation.
  • Fantastic Racism: The pair of them are just as bigoted towards non-sorcerers as Geto, to the extent they refer to them as "monkeys" like their surrogate father did. They do at least have the excuse of being tortured by their village of non-sorcerers as children for their powers then raised by the Super Supremacist who rescued them.
  • Gyaru Girl: Nanako's design evokes this style, with her tanned skin, hair color and fashion sense.
  • I Owe You My Life: Geto saved them when the villagers of their hometown called for deaths after blaming them for their misfortunes. In return, the two are some of his most loyal followers who fully embrace his plans to create a world of Jujutsu sorcerers only.
  • Misanthrope Supreme: Thanks to their traumatic past and Geto's influence, they both share his view that regular humans are apes that need to be exterminated.
  • Neck Snap: Mimiko's cursed technique involves using a noose to break the necks of enemies and string up their bodies, but its exact application isn't explained.
  • Siblings in Crime: A pair of twin sisters who double as curse users willing to wipe out all non-sorcerers.
  • Supernatural Phone: Nanako uses her cell phone as part of her cursed technique, with its power seemingly used to capture people within the phone's camera as a sort of Pocket Dimension. She defensively uses the technique to protect herself and Mimiko from Jogo's fire blast after they encounter him, and she is later seen attempting to trap Sukuna within the camera, but that doesn't work out as well for her.
  • Too Dumb to Live: While it is very understandable because of their Undying Loyalty to Geto, trying to leverage the hidden location of another finger to try and press someone like Sukuna was an incredibly bad idea.
  • Tragic Bigot: They were imprisoned and tortured by their village of non-sorcerers due to their powers as children. This traumatic experience, along with being rescued and raised by Suguru Geto turned the pair just as genocidal against non-sorcerers as their surrogate father.
  • Undying Loyalty: Both of them are deeply loyal to Suguru Geto and his cause, as he is the man who saved their lives and watched over them. Everything they do is motivated out of love for him. They only work for Kenjaku because he's possessing Geto's body and they want him to surrender Geto's corpse so it will no longer be desecrated. They nearly come to blows with other members of Geto's sorcerer family when two of them decide to side with Kenjaku, believing since Geto is dead, following Kenjaku's plan will come the closest to fulfilling Geto's goals and honoring his memory.
  • You Said You Would Let Them Go: When they show up for the first time in the main series outside of a flashback, the two confront the impostor Geto over his promise to give Geto's body back in exchange for all the killing they've done for him. Having never intended to fulfill his part of the deal, he smiles and shoos them off, telling them to form a Binding Vow next time.

    Manami Suda

Manami Suda

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/manami_suda.png

Geto's secretary in his civilian front as a monk. She doubles as a commander in his sorcerer army.

  • Coat Cape: When she reappears she's now wearing a coat clasped around her neck like a high collar with the rest of her coat hanging down her back like a cape.
  • Don't Make Me Destroy You: She and Negi give Kusakabe and Panda the chance to surrender and live rather than kill them on the spot, because they both know the real Geto wouldn't want them to kill fellow sorcerers if they could help it.
  • Fantastic Racism: She's so racist against non-sorcerers that she can't even believe they're the same species as sorcerers.
  • Secretary of Evil: She acts as Geto's secretary in his guise as a monk, tracking donations made by church members and scheduling appointments. She's not limited to secretarial duties as she's one of the commanders of Geto's group and is an active combatant during Shibuya.
  • Uncertain Doom: She's last seen alongside Toshihisa in Shibuya, caught in the middle of Sukuna and Jogo's fight. Sukuna initially forbids them from running away from Jogo's meteor, only giving them permission to flee when it's practically on top of them. Her survival hasn't been confirmed, but both Kusakabe and Panda, who were also given the same order from Sukuna managed to escape unscathed. It's later revealed by Larue that she didn't make it out of Shibuya alive.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Manami and Geto take selfies together to celebrate their family of sorcerers reuniting seconds before Geto murders a non-sorcerer named Kanemori for no longer donating money to his church.

A scarred commander in Geto's family.

  • Don't Make Me Destroy You: When he and Suda encounter Kusakabe and Panda, they offer to let them surrender without a fight as the real Geto wouldn't want them harming jujutsu sorcerers unless they had no other choice.
  • Eye Scream: When he reappears, he's gained a patch over his scarred eye.
  • The Generic Guy: While most of Geto's original followers don't get much in the way of screentime, he gets the least developed personality.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: He's a genocidal curse user with a scar down the right side of his face and over his eye.
  • Uncertain Doom: When he reappears in Shibuya with Manami, he ends up in the crossfire of Jogo and Sukuna's duel. When Jogo's meteor is headed directly towards him, Sukuna appears and tells him not to run until he gives him permission, only letting him flee seconds before impact. Toshihisa's survival has not been confirmed, but Kusakabe and Panda, who were very close by, both managed to get away unscathed. It's later revealed by Larue that he didn't make it out of Shibuya alive.

    Larue

Larue

Cursed Technique: Heart Catch

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/larue_jjk.png

A Curse User who serves Geto not out of ideology but because he wants to make Geto king.

  • Affably Evil: Despite having served Geto, Larue is shown to be a genuinely friendly individual when all is said and done. Not only does he leave his villainy behind after Geto's death, but he chooses to put his life on the line to help the heroes defeat Sukuna. Even after he takes a Black Flash from Sukuna, Larue still refuses to throw in the towel, using his Cursed Technique to distract Sukuna as Yuji lands a Black Flash.
  • Charm Person: Heart Catch, his Cursed Technique, doesn't just grab bodies with the giant hand he manifests. It can literally catch the hearts of his opponents and make them focus only on him, which is illustrated by his target's eyes turning into hearts.
  • Giant Hands of Doom: His Cursed Technique manifests a giant virtual hand that allows him to grab his targets. He can keep restoring the hand if it gets destroyed, but Larue is afflicted by one-tenth of the damage the virtual hand experiences.
  • The Heart: He shares Geto's view that the sorcerers comprising their faction are a family. During the Shibuya Incident, when Manami and Negi are about to come to blows with Nanako and Mimiko, Larue stops them from fighting and reminds them they're a family, saying that when everything's done, the group will meet again for another family meal. Later, he's the one able to convince Miguel to take on Sukuna.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He's decided to remain neutral, neither fighting for nor against Kenjaku, because his only loyalty was to Geto, not the thing controlling his corpse. During Shibuya, he actually allies with Yuki Tsukumo to save Todo, Mai and Miwa from Kenjaku and Uraume.
  • Magical Barefooter: He's a Curse User who's never seen wearing shoes.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: He participated in Geto's genocidal agenda against non-sorcerers, not out of any hatred for non-sorcerers, but because he wanted to make Geto the king of the world. With Geto dead, he chooses to remain neutral instead of following Kenjaku like some of his comrades do.
  • Remote, Yet Vulnerable: His Cursed Technique allows him to create a giant virtual hand he can command from far away, but Larue experiences one-tenth of the amount of any damage inflicted on it.
  • Super-Scream: How he stops his "family" from coming to blows; Yelling so hard that it causes two crevasses in the concrete floor between them.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He's never been seen wearing a shirt, going naked from the waist up with only hearts covering his nipples.
  • We Need a Distraction: As it turns out, a secondary effect of his Cursed Technique is to literally grab someone's attention and force them to focus on him, no matter how much they don't want to. This is an ideal distraction technique and even Sukuna is vulnerable to it. He uses it to distract the King of Curses to leave him wide open to Yuji landing a massive Black Flash, putting Yuji in the needed headspace to turn the tables on Sukuna.

Geto's New Followers

    In General

Curse users recruited to Geto's cause after the events of 0.

  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Geto's original group of curse users were ideologically motivated to wipe out non-sorcerers, believing it was for the betterment of sorcerers and the eradication of curses. They also genuinely viewed each other as family. Geto's new followers are psychopaths who've joined him largely for the chance to hurt people with impunity.
  • Psycho for Hire: All of them are different flavors of sadists who only work for Geto for the chance to hurt people in unique ways.

    Juzo Kumiya

Juzo Kumiya

Voiced by: Tetsu Inada (Japanese), Xander Mobus (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20210612_063208.png

A sadistic curse user who assists Geto's group during the Kyoto Goodwill Event arc.

  • An Arm and a Leg: All of Juzo's limbs are stretched and bent like pretzel dough after he starts swinging at Gojo before the sorceror launches Juzo into a stone lantern for good measure.
  • Ax-Crazy: This man is violently off his rocker, only living to kill and create morbid pieces of equipment or furniture out of his victims. He is so insane that he has no issue challenging Gojo to a fight without hesitation, hoping to turn him into a high-quality coat rack. Bonus points for actually fighting with an axe.
  • Bald of Evil: Juzo is very bald and very evil.
  • Barrier Warrior: His main purpose during the attack is to place a Curtain specifically to keep Gojo, and only Gojo, out. This limitation on the barrier makes it powerful enough to keep him out of the picture for a while.
  • The Blacksmith: He creates morbid weapons out of his victims, being the one who made Haruta's hand sword.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Despite being a psychotic nutjob only interested in creating gruesome works, Juzo is still a sorcerer skilled enough for Geto to entrust him with setting up a powerful barrier meant to stop the resident World's Strongest Man.
  • Cool Sword: His masterpiece is a weapon called 'Dragon-Bone', a sword capable of absorbing both kinetic impact and cursed energy, which can then release both forces to greatly increase the speed and cutting power of its swings. It is used by Maki when she infiltrates the Zen'in estate, and later during her Roaring Rampage of Revenge, but it is seemingly destroyed by Chojuro Zen'in.
  • Interrogated for Nothing: He is captured after the Goodwill Event arc and interrogated, but he knows nothing about Geto's true plans and offers nothing besides some vague physical descriptions of Geto's allies.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Blindly assaulting Gojo Satoru automatically makes you this trope.
  • True Craftsman:
    • The Juju Stroll for episode 19 of the anime humorously shows that Juzo is truly a skilled and dedicated craftsman when it comes to creating his morbid pieces of work, despite what his otherwise crude and unrefined behavior would suggest.
    • The high quality of his work becomes relevant much later in the story, as his tools are sought out by the heroes for their plan to stop the Culling Game, with the cursed tool-specialist Maki and ancient sorcerer Tengen both acknowledging their usefulness.
  • Uncertain Doom: His fate was left ambiguous after his capture and interrogation. While curse users are usually executed, there has been no mention of Juzo's death, not even when his name was brought up again before the Culling Game.

Cursed Technique: Miracles

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/379636225_896968731866958_2900073587985608510_n.png

An androgynous-looking young man who works for Geto.

His Cursed Technique, "Miracles", drains the luck from minor uncommon occurrences Haruta witnesses and releases it when he's in great danger to improve his chances of surviving.

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: After smugly toying with the lives of the non-combatant assistant managers, he pathetically tries to apologize when Nanami has him by the throat.
  • Asshole Victim: No one both in and out of universe feels sorry for him when Sukuna kills him.
  • At Least I Admit It: Arguably Haruta's only positive trait is that he possesses a great amount of self-awareness and never makes an attempt to frame himself as a good guy.
  • Ax-Crazy: He revels in the murders and Kick the Dog moments he commits, giddily admitting they're his way of "having fun" with an ear-to-ear Slasher Smile on his face.
  • Badass Adorable: Downplayed. While he's far from the level of a Grade 1 like Nanami, he's still powerful enough to be a threat to average sorcerers.
  • Beneath the Mask: He acts very cheerful, humorous and almost friendly, even making frequent self-deprecating remarks... but if he detects any weakness at all in whoever happens to be facing him, he shows his true face and becomes a sadistic, utterly merciless killer.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Haruta is a cowardly, klutzy goofball who rarely takes anything seriously, was genuinely happy to be "so popular" when he had to fight three girls on his own, and overall just doesn't seem suited for this line of work. He turns out to be a surprisingly dangerous and cunning opponent, as Nobara and Akari found out the hard way.
  • The Bully: At his core, Haruta is nothing but a bully. By his own admission, he will only attack or fight those weaker than himself or who are already worn down purely out of sadism. When confronted with someone superior to him, he folds like a house of cards.
  • Bullying a Dragon:
    • He provokes Mahito after the latter stopped him from murdering an injured Hanami, saying that he was "just being nice" but that curses probably don't know what being nice means. He eventually backs down when he realizes that Mahito might make good on his threats of killing him.
    • In Shibuya, he mockingly refuses to answer Nanami's questions and attacks him (with no results). All of Haruta's bravado goes right out the window when he immediately gets Offhand Backhanded by Nanami through two walls, and a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown ensues.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Sukuna saves him from being killed by Mahoraga, recognizing that Fushiguro started a summoning ritual with Haruta and was sent into near-death state by the Shikigami. If Haruta was killed, Fushiguro would die as well, so Sukuna kept him alive until he defeated Mahoraga. After that, all bets were off...
  • Card-Carrying Villain: He even mockingly tells Nobara to stop him from "committing any more sins". He obviously enjoys being evil and heartless.
  • Chew Toy: A very resilient one, to the point that his cursed technique (combined with his rather low power-level) ends up being a disadvantage when he's up against someone stronger than him, since it only allows them to keep hurting him. Played for Laughs during his "fight" against Nanami which consists of Haruta starting to say something, Nanami "killing" Haruta over and over by sending him flying into walls or punching him so hard he vomits blood, then Haruta desperately and unsuccessfully trying to escape and/or retaliate. Rinse and repeat.
  • Childish Villain, Mature Hero: He's contrasted as the Childish Villain to Nobara and Nanami's Mature Hero.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Some things he says make very little sense.
(When asked what he's after) Think about this - what if a person who loves soccer were to be born in a world without it. No wait... That's a bad example. Anyway, who cares about a reason?
  • Confusion Fu: His main fighting style is to use sneak attacks by hiding and striking. He can also remote-control his sword and use it to target key points on his opponents. This makes him hard to follow, and harder to strike back against.
  • Creepy High-Pitched Voice: Wataru Hatano portrays Haruta with a notably high voice, to illustrate both his Ax-Crazy mentality and his immaturity.
  • Cute and Psycho: Childlike, sassy, playful, and rotten to the bone.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He's rather snide and sarcastic.
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: His Dirty Coward and Kick the Dog tendencies backfire when he faces Nanami. Upon being asked if he was the one who killed all the assistant managers in Shibuya, his reaction is to giggle, then tearfully apologize. All this does is infuriate Nanami more and make the No-Holds-Barred Beatdown that he delivers worse.
  • Dirty Coward: A self-admitted one; Haruta would rather target those who are weaker than him, or wait on the sidelines and pick off weakened enemies after they are done fighting much stronger opponents. He also has no issue resorting to underhanded and dirty tactics if he ends up in a prolonged fight.
  • Effeminate Misogynistic Guy: He prefers murdering women but is one of the most Bishōnen characters in the series himself.
  • Evil Feels Good: Haruta openly declares that he's having fun "bullying the weak" (maiming, torturing and slaughtering harmless, innocent people).
  • Evil Gloating: He's clearly very proud of his crimes, which he brags about and sarcastically calls his "sins".
  • Evil Is Hammy: One of the most expressive and over-the-top characters in the entire series.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: A Bishōnen with large, innocent-looking eyes, long blond hair and thick lashes, who often makes Puppy-Dog Eyes-like faces and is also a remorseless murdering sociopath.
  • Facial Markings: He has purple markings below his eyes that signify how many uses of his power are left.
  • Fatal Flaw: Sadism. He just can't let an opportunity to Kick the Dog go to waste. Going after Megumi in Shibuya is what causes Haruta to lose his life.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He has a (very thin) layer of cordiality and friendliness, which is spoiled by his attempts to kill whoever he happens to be talking to.
  • Fearless Fool: He doesn’t understand how his own technique fully works, but he knows enough to realize that he can survive fatal situations if his power is stored up and therefore shows little fear of his own death. He's smart enough to not push his luck in some instances, but his lack of understanding his own power ultimately comes back to bite him during the Shibuya arc..
  • Flat Character: Haruta can be easily summed up as a simple Jerkass Card-Carrying Villain. He has little Hidden Depths and no known Freudian Excuse, being just evil for the sake of sadism, but his one-dimensional villainy is often Played for Laughs and makes him a rather entertaining character.
  • Flying Weapon: He can make his sword fly around independently.
  • Gyaru Girl: Rare Male Example. Haruta has bleached hair, makeup-like marks, a skimpy outfit, and childish speech patterns.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Once Sukuna had dealt with Mahoraga, Haruta is sliced in half vertically sideways after accidentally walking into Sukuna's still active domain.
  • Hate Sink: There is literally nothing redeeming about him, and practically every second where he appears is dedicated to making him as loathsome and pathetic as possible. This makes his No-Holds-Barred Beatdown at the hands of Nanami and his eventual death at the hands of Sukuna all the more satisfying.
  • The Hedonist: He admits that his primary motivation in life is to have fun, which apparently involves hurting and killing people for kicks.
  • Humiliation Conga: Shibuya just wasn't Haruta's night. First Nanami brutalizes him and leaves him for dead. When he thinks he's found an easy target (Megumi) to heal his bruised ego, that person summons a massive, yet-undefeated Shikigami and forces him to fight it alone. He gets saved last-second by Sukuna, who only did it because he didn't want Megumi to die, and who proceeds to insult him. Then right as he thinks he's safe and about to make it out alive, he accidentally enters Sukuna's still-active Domain and gets chopped in half.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Implied. He makes self-deprecating jokes about his lack of strength and the fact that even others call him "weak", while also insisting that strength isn't everything and hyping up his own cursed technique (which isn't primarily suited for combat).
  • Interplay of Sex and Violence: Possibly, if the fact that he gushes over pretty girls while also having them as his favorite targets is anything to go by.
  • In the Back: His specialty, befitting his nature as a Dirty Coward.
  • Iron Butt Monkey: Downplayed. Haruta is a bad fighter when he can't rely on his little tricks, which means he'll end up either forced to retreat or getting his crap kicked, but his cursed technique allows him to take amounts of damage that would kill other characters.
  • It Amused Me: Why does he kill? Because it's fun!
  • It's All About Me: "Who cares, as long as I'm having fun?!"
  • Jerkass: One of the cruelest characters in the series behind the Laughably Evil facade.
  • Kick the Dog: Does so repeatedly and with immense pleasure.
  • Kick Them While They Are Down: Absolutely cannot resist attacking someone who can't defend themselves, even if (or rather, especially if) they're not the most dangerous threat in the room.
    • Rather than attack Nobara while she's dazed from being struck in the jaw, Haruta finds that repeatedly stabbing Akari (a non-combatant assistant manager) while she's trying to crawl away is far more fun. When Nobara becomes pissed at this, Haruta taunts her while stabbing Akari even more.
    • Even after barely surviving a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown at the hands of Nanami, Haruta later attacks a wounded Megumi after he's done fighting Toji. It's especially ridiculous in that mere moments ago Megumi and Toji were running halfway across Shibuya while fighting, meaning at some point Haruta must've followed them solely so he could pick off someone.
  • Lack of Empathy: Not only does he go out of his way to harm others, he actively enjoys it and shows no sign of remorse over it.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Downplayed. His technique allows him to store up little "miracles" from everyday life, but he'll forget they ever happened in the first place.
  • Laughably Evil: An unrepentant Sadist who's also comically cheerful, bumbly, self-superior and occasionally prone to things such as biting his own tongue in the middle of his Evil Gloating.
  • Lean and Mean: Very skinny and very depraved.
  • Mirthless Laughter: He suffers a bout of stress laughter, complete with Tears of Fear, when Nanami has him by the throat and coldly asks if he was the one who murdered several of the assistant managers in Shibuya.
  • Monster Misogyny: He particularly enjoys tormenting and killing women. He's elated at the sight of Akari in Shibuya, stating that he was getting bored of all the assistant managers he had run into so far being only men.
  • Near-Villain Victory: He manages to badly injure both Akari and Nobara in Shibuya, rendering them unable to either flee or fight. Nobara painstakingly manages to stumble to her feet, but as she's suffering from a concussion and leg injury, her chances against the otherwise-uninjured Haruta look dire. Thankfully, that's when Nanami comes and easily defeats him.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Downplayed. His cursed technique allows him to survive what should be lethal injuries, but he only gets six chances. Once he's literally out of luck, he's just as fragile as a regular human.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Haruta really loves his hand-sword (made from someone's actual hand). He proudly tells Utahime about how "nice" it is, before ominously asking her what she's going to give him.
  • No-Sell: On the receiving end of one when he tries to slash then kick Nanami.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: He likes getting into people's faces to gloat or sneer at them.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Haruta acts bubbly and airheaded most of the time, but reveals himself to be surprisingly competent and intelligent in battle. His quirky personality hides an inquisitive mind, and he shows tactical ingenuity during his fight against Nobara and Akari.
  • Oddly Shaped Sword: The blade is normal but the hilt is a hand, specially created by Juzo for Haruta because "he's so weak he needs his hand held." The hand is also capable of punching opponents for a sneak attack.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • After dislodging himself from the first wall Nanami sent him into, when he understands what kind of person he's up against.
    • When he realizes that he will have to fight Mahoraga on his own, especially since he thought he had found an easy target instead..
  • Older Than They Look: He looks roughly the same age as our teenage protagonists but refers to Megumi as a "brat". He also calls both him and Nobara "talented despite being so young". This hints at him being at least in his twenties.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: He's generally carefree and bubbly but when he realizes how strong Nanami is, he immediately drops the childish persona. This happens again when Megumi summons Mahoraga, with Haruta actually swearing in the latter instance.
  • Psycho for Hire: He seems to have no personal involvement in the Disaster Curses' cause. Even if he wasn't killing to help Geto and Mahito's goals, he'd be doing it for pleasure.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Type B. Speaks in a Creepy High-Pitched Voice, has very childlike mannerisms, and is a complete maniac who only cares about having fun.
  • Sadist: One of his defining traits is his delight in causing pain to others.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • After Gojo destroys the barrier around the Tokyo school, Haruta immediately dips.
    • He attempts (and fails) to flee upon realizing just how strong Nanami is.
    • When Sukuna tells him to "begone", he doesn't need to be told twice. Unfortunately, that didn't save his life.
  • Selective Obliviousness: He completely ignores Nobara's criticism about him being self-centered, instead immediately boasting about how popular he must be to have so many girls for him... even though said girls were his enemies.
  • Serial Killer: A hedonistic and possibly power/control type, as he mentions that killing "is so much fun" and specifically targets those weaker than him. It may explain why he couldn't keep himself from going after Megumi instead of leaving in Shibuya; he was so upset over his defeat against Nanami that murder took the edge off for him.
  • Sissy Villain: More flamboyant and effeminate than other antagonists, while also being a sadistic murderer.
  • Slasher Smile: Occasionally. They're terrifying.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He's convinced that even strong sorcerers can't do much when faced with his cursed technique. Nanami the Grade 1 proves him wrong very easily.
  • Smug Snake: Way too arrogant for his own good, especially given his skill set.
  • The Sociopath: A very nasty, low-functioning and surprisingly realistic example, often right into Stupid Evil territory. Haruta is a sadistic, self-centered, immature killer who is unable to follow societal rules and whose ego, impulsiveness and sadism cause him to make grave mistakes.
  • Stripperiffic: Wears one of the most revealing outfits in the entire series - though given the nature of his cursed technique, it's not much of a problem even if he sustains injuries.
  • Stupid Evil: Haruta simply cannot resist an opportunity to indulge in pointless sadism even when it causes him more pain than anything his victims experience. At one point he contemplates murdering an injured Hanami with no thought of how he'll incur the wrath of the Disaster Spirits until Mahito threatens him. Even after narrowly surviving a vicious beatdown from Nanami, Haruta's inability to pass up what he assumes is an easy victim, a wounded Megumi, results in his death.
  • Talking Is a Free Action: Averted during his fight with Nanami, where every time Haruta opens his mouth, he ends up taking more hits.
  • Team Killer: Haruta has no qualms about backstabbing his own allies, as shown when he attempts to kill a grievously injured Hanami for the simple reason that seeing him in that state excited his bloodlust.
  • Unsexy Sadist: Haruta is attractive and even wears a revealing outfit, but he's ridiculously cruel, immature, and cowardly. He tries hard to act cool and feel powerful by picking on those weaker than him, but only ends up coming across as a major creep and getting pushed around by bigger fish.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: If Haruta hadn't ambushed a wounded Megumi in Shibuya, then the latter wouldn't have summoned Mahoraga in an attempt at pulling a Taking You with Me. Haruta's random, petty act of sadism has far-reaching consequences all the way towards the end of the series due to Sukuna defeating Mahoraga in Shibuya, which led to Sukuna gaining the Shikigami's loyalty, with Mahoraga's presence during Sukuna's duel with Gojo leading to Sukuna successfully killing Gojo.
  • Villainous Rescue: Sukuna barely saves him from getting crushed to a pulp by Mahoraga.
  • Villains Want Mercy: When Nanami has him at his mercy, Haruta breaks down and apologizes for his evil deeds in hopes of being spared.
  • Vocal Dissonance: He has the appearance of a cute, long-haired Bishōnen, and is short and rather flamboyant. By contrast, he possesses Wataru Hatano's deep masculine voice. Though he uses a higher pitch than most of his other roles, it gets noticeably lower when Haruta is being serious.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Downplayed. His one-piece jumpsuit leaves a portion of his chest and stomach exposed.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Due to his small stature and frail build, Haruta lacks raw power; his cursed technique is also unsuited for combat. He makes up for it by having a special sword that compensates for his weak grip strength and can move around independently, as well as by relying on surprise attacks, his own speed, outsmarting his opponents and landing perfect successive strikes on key spots of their bodies to take them down.
  • Winds of Destiny, Change!: His technique is eventually explained as the ability to "store miracles". Little, uncommon occurrences that he notices, like all the digits on a clock being the same number, are erased from his memory and saved for later. When his life is in danger, the "miracles" are released, altering his luck in a way that allows him to survive otherwise lethal situations. Unfortunately for him, due to not knowing exactly how his technique worked, he failed to realize that his luck ran out after Nanami beat him half to death. And then he met Sukuna.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He tries to kill Utahime during the Exchange Event Incident, and is visibly disappointed after failing to land a hit on her. Later on in Shibuya, he gleefully fights and brings down both Akari and Nobara, torturing the former by stabbing her several times in the leg.
  • You Are Already Dead: His death is framed like this. After Sukuna defeated Mahoraga, he told Haruta to "be gone." Haruta complied and started running off in joy from still being alive... and then fell to the ground in halves.

Ogami's Cursed Technique: Séance

Jiro Awasaka's Cursed Technique: Inverse

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ogami_awasaka_ogami_grandson_anime.png
Left to right: Jiro Awasaka, Ogami and her grandson

Two curse users responsible for guarding one of the Shibuya curtains that blocks off sorcerers from entering. Ogami is an elderly lady who enlists the help of groomed "grandsons" for her techniques, while Jiro Awasaka is an old man who fights on his own.

Ogami's Cursed Technique, Séance Technique, allows her to channel the appearance and abilities of the dead through the eponymous ritual, capable of affecting herself or others. Jiro Awasaka's Cursed Technique, Inverse, is a defensive ability that makes strong attacks against him weak, and weak attacks strong.

  • Asshole Victim: Ogami is brutally killed by a now fully revived Toji. Given she lived her life as a cruel serial killer, she got what she deserved.
  • Black Eyes of Evil: Ogami usually keeps her Eyes Always Shut, but when she opens them her sclera are shown to be pitch black.
  • Confusion Fu: Awasaka's fighting style is built around disorienting enemies with his Inverse technique.
  • Death of Personality: Ogami's grandson effectively dies due to channeling Toji Zen'in, causing the latter's soul to overwrite his own. If anything was left of Ogami's grandson, it died along with Toji when he killed himself.
  • Did Not See That Coming: Ogami is in disbelief that her channelling causes Toji Zen'in to actually come back from the dead instead of just channeling his physical abilities through her grandson, not believing a body can overpower the soul.
  • Evil Old Folks: In the past, both Ogami and Awasaka worked as curse-using assassins who were unnecessarily cruel to their victims.
  • Feeling Oppressed by Their Existence: Ogami and Awasaka both feel this way towards Gojo. Where once they were assassins who could partake in their depravity without fear of consequences, Gojo's immense strength caused a shift in the balance of power in the world and sent them into hiding. They agree to partake in the Shibuya Incident to eliminate Gojo as a threat for good so they can go back to living the way they want.
  • For the Evulz: Awasaka enjoys torturing and killing innocent people simply because he can.
Awasaka: Until the day I die... I will trample on the weak!!
  • Gone Horribly Right: Ogami accidentally gave true resurrection to a dead man, an unbelievable feat even for Cursed Techniques. The problem? Her target was Toji Zen'in, who is a massive Outside-Context Problem for Jujutsu and he proceeds to immediately cave her face in under her own order to "Kill Sorcerers".
  • Gonk: Awasaka has a very strange appearance, being a stocky, muscular old man with a large head and an unsettling, wide-eyed expression.
  • Gruesome Grandparent: Vol. 11 extras reveal Granny Ogami's "grandchild" is actually a boy she kidnapped as a toddler and raised to help her in her assassinations, and that she's done the same thing to several other "grandchildren."
  • Hate Sink: Ogami and Awasaka are both heinous serial killers who used to murder and torture innocent people For the Evulz, only stopping out fear that Satorou Gojo would hunt them down. And for her part, Ogami is a serial kidnapper who grooms children into becoming her pawns and is heavily implied to be an Ephebophile. While it's certainly downplayed as they're both very minor characters who don't live for long after being introduced, what little screentime they get shows them to be positively vile.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Channeling Toji through Ogami's grandson ends up screwing her over royally when Toji's soul overrides that of her grandson, effectively reviving him and making her his first victim.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: Deeply unsympathetic examples. Ogami and Awasaka believe they were truly "free" when they were assassins who lived without fear of the consequences of their actions. Ever since they first encountered Gojo and sensed his immense power, they've "retired" but want to regain their former freedom in their old age by helping seal away Gojo.
  • Kick the Dog: During her time as an assassin, Ogami used her Voluntary Shapeshifting to take on the appearance of a man's daughter to get close enough to kill him, but not before letting him know that his daughter died a pitiful death begging for her life.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Toji wanted all of the smoke he could possibly get and decided to immediately kill Ogami before she could even start negotiations.
  • No Name Given: Ogami's grandson is never given a name. Furthermore, he's described as being one in a series of many young men she has groomed to use for her Technique and because she likes younger men.
  • Professional Killer: Through flashbacks, it is shown that Ogami and Awasaka both worked as assassins under the employ of a mysterious man whose face is left unseen.
  • Psycho for Hire: In the short flashback to her days she worked as an assassin, Ogami had shades of this given that she murdered a man and then mocked him about how she murdered his daughter. Awasaka was a clearer example, doubling as a Serial Killer in his spare time between assassinations and his vow to "trample on the weak" until the day he dies.
  • Retired Monster: They were sadistic assassins until the 90s and never regretted any of their crimes after retiring. In fact, the only reason they ever retired in the first place was out of fear of Gojo's incredible power when he was just a child, and they come out of retirement during the Shibuya Incident because they were told Geto had a way to eliminate Gojo as a threat.
  • Scare 'Em Straight: During the 90s, both Ogami and Awasaka were interested in assassinating Gojo for the astronomical bounty on his head when he was just a child, but upon finding him and attempting to stealthily observe him, he was easily able to sense their presence and intimidated them just by looking them in the eye. They were both so terrified of him and his power that they stopped their crimes from that day forward out of fear of him tracking them down, only coming out of the woodwork to assist Geto's group because he promised to take Gojo out of the picture.
  • Serial Killer: In addition to his work as an assassin, Awasaka was once a brutal murderer who inflicted gruesome Body Horror on those weaker than him because he could. His encounter with Gojo made him stop.
  • Shapeshifting Seducer: Ogami can alter her appearance with her Séance technique, and used this ability in the past during her work as an assassin to seduce targets before killing them. The example shown has her take on the form of a beautiful young woman who is the daughter of her target, reverting into her elderly appearance after finishing the job. The less said about that scene, the better.
  • Spooky Séance: Ogami's Cursed Technique is named after this, and allows herself (or another Willing Channeler) to take the form of a dead person.
  • Squishy Wizard: Ogami has an ability that can be extremely powerful, but she is otherwise a defenseless old woman, and in order to use her Séance she must perform a rather long ritual that leaves her completely immobile. Her grandson has to act as a living shield to her in order to buy her time to complete the Séance.
  • Super-Toughness: Subverted by Awasaka's Inverse technique: for most of the fight, it looks like he's got Nigh-Invulnerability, falling from a 41-floor building without a scratch then No Selling multiple full-strength attacks from Itadori and Fushiguro simultaneously. Then Fushiguro notices that of his attacks, the ones that landed slightly out-of-sync with Itadori's seem to be more effective, and his Fleeing Hares summon appears to damage him a bit. It's then that they realize that Awasaka doesn't nullify attacks, but inverts their power within a certain range, making strong attacks weak but also turning weak attacks strong. He's then taken out via Cherry Tapping.
  • Tragic Villain: Ogami's "grandson" is really just someone she kidnapped as a toddler then brainwashed into believing they were related and raised to help in her assassinations.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Ogami can use her cursed technique on herself to channel the appearance of a deceased person, though she only did this in the past while she was active.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Awasaka's Inverse makes him susceptible to pitifully weak attacks, with one of Fushiguro's toad summons damaging him using its tongue.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: By the end of Shibuya, Awasaka's fate remains unknown.
  • Willing Channeler: Ogami's grandson is this, allowing her to use her technique on him so he can harness the abilities of Toji Zen'in. Ogami herself was also one, but she is no longer active due to her age.

Jujutsu: Ice Formation, Reverse Cursed Technique

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/382559829_336582475502702_99275615133678100_n.png

A mysterious and enigmatic figure who works with Geto's group. In reality, they are The Dragon to Ryomen Sukuna and served as his Evil Chef during the Heian Era.

Their Innate Technique, Ice Formation, allows them to create and manipulate ice.

  • Ambiguous Gender: Uraume has an androgynous appearance, with delicate facial features and a feminine hairstyle. While being interrogated, Juzo describes Uraume's appearance but is unable to discern their gender. Their vessel is eventually revealed to be a woman, but even then the story keeps using gender-neutral terms for Uraume.
  • Ambiguous Situation: How exactly Uraume managed to survive the millennium between Sukuna's death and reincarnation has so far not been explained. Sukuna seems not to have been aware Uraume could or would undertake such a feat, and Kenjaku never comments on the fact either. It is possible Uraume reincarnated in the same manner as the other Culling Game players, sealed in a cursed object later absorbed by a vessel, yet they're seen running around long before Kenjaku acquires Idle Transfiguration, which he needed in order to grant the victims of his scheme the power and fortitude necessary to become proper vessels. It's not explained until Volume 25, where Kenjaku makes it a rule that the Culling Game cannot end until all players except for himself, Sukuna and Uraume are dead. However, when adding the rule he uses the name of their vessels instead of their true names, revealing Uraume is indeed a reincarnated sorcerer and that their vessel's name is Shiori Himi.
  • Bad Habits: Uraume is an unambiguously evil character that dresses in traditional Buddhist robes. Juzo describes them as "that monk kid".
  • Bare-Handed Blade Block: A variation; they casually deflect Momo's Wind Scythe attack with their bare hands, emphasizing their high level of skill.
  • Breath Weapon: Their Frost Calm move is a large-scale freezing attack created with their breath.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: As he's their master's vessel, Yuji is off their kill list.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Tries to attack a freshly released Gojo after he accuses Sukuna of cowardice only to go down to a single punch to the gut.
  • Death from Above: Their Icefall technique involves creating a massive amount of ice above enemies that is then dropped.
  • The Dragon: They're Sukuna's, being loyal enough to the King of Curses that they're willing to risk working with Kenjaku and wait over a thousand years to see him resurrected.
  • Dual Boss: Uraume and (fake) Geto team up against the remaining sorcerers towards the end of the Shibuya arc.
  • Enigmatic Minion: Uraume makes sporadic appearances throughout the series and their role within Geto's schemes are unknown, but they are crucial enough to be included within the planning of the Shibuya incident. It later becomes apparent that they are an associate of Sukuna, addressing him as their master. Sukuna, for his part, amicably treats them like an old friend and not a subordinate, which is very out-of-character for him, raising more questions about Uraume's identity.
  • Evil Chef: A Supreme Chef when it comes to preparing human flesh and an expert in butchering Cursed Spirits in a roundabout way that prevents their decomposition when destroyed normally through the use of Uraume's Technique, which lets them act as Sukuna's personal freezer.
  • Finger Gun: Prepares to execute Choso by forming their hand into this gesture and creating a sharp piece of ice on the index finger, appearing ready to fire it into his head before Yuji saves him.
  • Healing Factor: They are capable of using the Reverse Cursed Technique on themselves to quickly heal from injuries, something that requires a large amount of cursed energy and high level of skill.
  • An Ice Person: Their Innate Technique involves creating and manipulating ice. Noritoshi Kamo (the younger) notes that their master of the technique is of an incredibly high caliber.
  • Mysterious Past: No one save Kenjaku or Sukuna seems to know much of anything about Uraume and they aren't interested in sharing the story. All we know is that they're a cook, a human, and was already Sukuna's humble attendant back when the demonic man caused a stir during the Heian Era.
  • Oh, Crap!: While they don't say anything, Uraume inwardly notes that Yuji Itadori being the son of the reincarnation of Sukuna's twin and thus might rival Sukuna himself in potential is not a good thing, even though Sukuna seems to be pretty laid back about the whole affair. Sure enough, those fears are realized as through landing a Black Flash on Sukuna, Yuji is able to awaken his full potential, allowing him to rival Sukuna in power as well as unlock his own version of Sukuna's Shrine technique.
  • Older Than They Look: Uraume appears to be a teenager, but is revealed to personally know Sukuna, which would make them over 1000 years old.
  • Only Friend: "Friend" is probably pushing it, but Uraume is the only individual so far, Curse or human, that Sukuna treats with any level of civility. Akutami even confirms in the Fanbook that Sukuna "only had Uraume".
  • Red Baron: "The Frozen Star".
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Uraume primary use of Ice Formation is the rather simplistic strategy of just freezing their opponents before dropping a glacier on top of them. But the technique's aversion of Harmless Freezing makes it incredibly hard for anyone caught to escape.
  • The Stoic: Uraume usually sports an emotionless face and speaks in a soft-spoken manner. The rare times they show emotion is normally when someone disrespects Sukuna.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: They appear to protect Kenjaku during the climax of the Shibuya Incident and seem to have deeper knowledge of his master plan, but they're very snippy with him.
  • Through His Stomach: A non-romantic and twisted example; the Fanbook reveals that Uraume originally gained Sukuna's trust and favor by being a Supreme Chef who could prepare his favorite meal better than anyone else. That meal just happened to be people.
  • Undying Loyalty: Uraume possesses this towards Sukuna, to the point they waited a thousand years to help resurrect him. Disrespecting Sukuna or endangering his resurrection is the quickest way to break Uraume's otherwise stoic demeanor.
  • Villainous Friendship: In as much as Sukuna is capable of considering someone a friend, he seems to view Uraume as such. The King of Curses treats them with a level of civility and camaraderie that's otherwise completely uncharacteristic of him, freely complimenting them and even joking around with them.
  • Villain Respect:
    • Uraume chides modern-day sorcerers for trying too hard to preserve their humanity while fighting, their fear of alienation leaving them weaker than they could be. However, upon witnessing Hakari fight without a care for his safety or survival, Uraume acknowledges they no longer see him as (merely) human and declares they will crush their opponent with everything they have.
    • While they'd never admit it to Sukuna, they acknowledge that Yuji might have the same potential as Sukuna himself. Coming from Uraume, that's probably the biggest compliment possible.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Uraume has white hair and is firmly on the side of evil, being revealed as a close associate of Sukuna's.

    Toji Fushiguro (Spoilers)

Toji Fushiguro (né Zen'in)

Jujutsu: Heavenly Restriction

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/toji_fushiguro_anime.png
"An invisible man's gotta have invisible guts, right?"
The absent father of Megumi Fushiguro, and an assassin for hire. Formerly of the Zen'in, his abilities had him ostracized and abused by the clan. He cut ties with his family and spent his days going from job to job, woman to woman.

Similar to his cousin Maki Zen'in, Toji has a similar Heavenly Restriction that increases his physicality in exchange for the ability to use Cursed Energy. Toji's case is far more extreme however as he has zero Cursed Energy; turning him into the World's Strongest Man whose unusual properties interact with Jujutsu sorcery improperly, if it even does at all. Complementing his physique is an arsenal of Special Grade Cursed Tools that he stores in his pet worm curse, the most notable being the technique-nullifying Inverted Spear of Heaven.
  • Action Pet: He raised the Familiar he uses as a Walking Armory like a pet, which made it actually bond to Toji, whereas the Big Three Clans usually browbeat their Familiars into submission. This bond is strong enough that it lets the Cursed Spirit No-Sell Geto's attempt at absorbing it unconditionally despite the Curse being astronomically weaker than Geto.
  • Adaptational Badass: The anime adaptation takes a lot of liberties in how his strength is portrayed. In the Shibuya Incident, while fighting Dagon and Megumi he can move faster than normal humans can even perceive, lob around cars like they're pillows and can create shockwaves by stomping on the ground, and then using the concrete debris as makeshift bullets against Megumi's Rabbit Escape via Finger Poke of Doom on each and every piece of concrete within reach. The really amazing part is that all of this was on instinct, meaning he could've done this at any time while fighting Gojo and Geto in 2006.
  • Adaptational Curves: Compared to the manga, where he's relatively lean yet packed, Toji in the anime is given a much more muscular build to emphasize that his abilities come from unnatural physical prowess rather than cursed energy.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: A remarkably melancholy one, given he'd previously killed Riko and nearly killed Gojo and Geto. Even Gojo is left half-broken from it, and takes to looking out for Megumi as a result.
  • Almighty Janitor: He's classed as a "Non-Curse User"; criminal Muggles aware of the existence of Jujutsu but considered a complete non-threat, a title usually reserved for middlemen and the like. This is despite him being able to effortlessly kill a Grade-1 Sorcerer with his bare hands. If fellow Zen'in Heavenly Pact user Maki is anything to go by, this is probably Jujutsu Headquarters trying to deny any kind of validity to Toji for being the antithesis of what Jujutsu is all about.
  • Always Someone Better:
    • As Megumi puts it when he first unknowingly encounters him, he's essentially Maki fully realized. Like Maki, he's a Zen'in who can't use cursed energy that compensates with vast physical prowess. He proves to be far stronger than her when the two actually meet, taking her curse tool out of her hands with zero effort and using it to kill Dagon, a Special-Grade curse that she and three Grade 1 sorcerers were struggling against. Even after her Heavenly Restriction is fully realized she struggles to perform on Toji's level despite having practically the same superhuman gifts.
    • This may no longer be the case, as after Maki demonstrates her newfound understanding of her abilities and resolve by annihilating a returned Naoya the narration explicitly refers to her as having become Toji's equal. Her own thoughts imply that had she been used to being like this as Toji was from the start, she would have already exorcised him three times over.
Maki: (thinking during a Power High) If it's that man, he would've reached that height. If it's that man, he would've thrown the katana with no hesitation. If it's that man, he would've deflected even at that speed. It's not enough to be just the same as everyone else. There are things only I can see. There are things only he could see.
  • Anti-Magic: In different ways:
    • Toji wields a unique Curse Tool known as the Inverted Spear of Heaven, which negates the cursed techniques of anything around it. This allows it to penetrate any defensive jujutsu, meaning he can easily fight sorcerers in close combat as long as he's able to get within their range.
    • Retroactively Played With with his zero Cursed Energy restriction. His cousin Maki, who has the same Heavenly Restriction, makes her undetectable to a Domain Expansion unless she explicitly enters one, meaning the same applied to him. This doesn't mean he can't be harmed by cursed techniques, however, as Gojo's Hollow Purple proved.
  • Arc Villain: The main antagonist of "Hidden Inventory".
  • Baritone of Strength: He's one of the strongest characters in the series, being the first person to defeat Gojo onscreen, with Takehito Koyasu giving him a suitably deep voice.
  • Batman Gambit: He uses two when going against Gojo:
    • First, he sets up a bounty on Amanai to ensure they'd be accosted by bounty-hunting sorcerers the entire time so that he'd exhaust himself by keeping his powers active at all times, which left him exhausted by the time Toji finally came in for the kill.
    • He kept a familiar on his person, knowing that when Gojo would focus on it and notice that Toji himself produced no Cursed Energy whatsoever, he would work up a horde of fly heads to attack nearby so that he could hide amongst the swarm and land a decisive sneak attack.
  • Beast and Beauty: He's the Beast to Megumi's mother Beauty. It's unknown to what his first wife saw in Toji but it led to him marrying her, taking in her last name, and having Megumi with her.
  • The Berserker: Bringing Toji back from the dead makes him into an instinctual killer that bares his fangs towards the strongest person in the vicinity without any value for any moral setbacks. Turns out he's not completely mindless, as he is able to speak to his son Megumi before taking his own life as himself.
  • Black Eyes of Crazy: After being transformed into a near-feral berserker by the aftereffects of Ogami's technique, his sclera turn completely black to symbolize how he's lost most of his sense of self.
  • Black Sheep: Just like Maki, his inability to use Cursed techniques due to his Heavenly Restriction resulted in him being ostracized and abused by the Zen'in clan. His ability to become such a dangerous combatant despite this handicap, which flew against the clan's beliefs in Jujutsu superiority only increased his alienization further, which he is all too happy to do to spite his former family.
  • Blood Knight: Toji is shown to love fighting. He directly challenges both the strongest sorcerers Gojo and Geto at the time while savagely smiling in the midst in each of their respective battles. Even when he knows he's severely outclassed once Gojo learns the Reverse Cursed Technique and reaches a new height of power, Toji still grins in the face of imminent danger preparing to fight Gojo with all his might.
  • Came Back Wrong: Ogami's technique to give her grandson the powers of Toji ends up pulling his soul along with his body, allowing Toji to resurface in his entirety. Initially, he appears to have his old memories, but the next time he surfaces he appears to be nothing more than a speechless Blood Knight taking on enemies by pure instinct, as a side effect of the technique persisting after the user's death and Ogami's Technique forcing Toji to attack and kill the strongest Sorcerer in his proximity.
  • Chick Magnet: Probably owing to his incredible physique and an All Girls Want Bad Boys appeal, Toji has actually been married twice, and has also been with several other women in between and after. Unfortunately for the latter lucky women, it was mostly so he could live off them while on the financial bottom and then leaving them in debt.
  • Combat Pragmatist: He will take and use any advantage possible to win. To prepare for his fight with Gojo, he starts by first setting up a bounty on Amanai to ensure they'd be accosted by numerous sorcerers over the course of several days, then waits to strike him when he's exhausted from staying on guard for so long by immediately stabbing him In the Back. He took full advantage of how he's completely undetectable by sorcerers to launch devastating sneak attacks, even using his familiars as a decoy to further distract him, and uses a special Cursed Tool with Anti-Magic properties to ensure it could break through his defenses.
  • Curse Escape Clause: Normally, the people summoned by Ogami's Séance technique will transform back into their vessels once the Cursed Energy supplied for the technique runs out, but since Toji's has no Cursed Energy to begin with, thanks to his Heavenly Restriction, he's effectively been fully reincarnated albeit, driven by a compulsion to continually seek out and kill Sorcerers and Cursed Spirits.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Toji's Heavenly Restriction means he was born with absolutely zero cursed energy, rendering him incapable of projecting it from his body in any form; In return, his body is monstrously durable, agile, and strong, and his five senses have been enhanced to the point where he can see and interact with curses anyway.
  • Dead All Along: When he's first mentioned, Megumi notes that he believes him to be alive. Turns out he's actually been dead for over a decade, Gojo just ended up never telling him when he showed a lack of interest in his fate.
  • Death by Irony: He claims to have "invisible guts" to Geto due to his ability to store Cursed Spirits in his stomach to hide their residual Cursed Energy. He is ultimately killed when Gojo blasts a hole clean through his torso.
  • Devoted to You: To his first wife, Megumi's mother. Considering she was the only woman Toji gave everything of himself for, this trope makes sense.
  • Died Standing Up: After Gojo blasts away a good chunk of his torso.
  • The Dreaded: He's known as the Sorcerer Killer, with several sorcerers frightened by him due to his combat prowess and his ability to be completely undetectable by them due to emitting zero Cursed Energy making him an Outside-Context Problem to them. Even when he's long dead by the present day, several characters such as the Zen'in family in general, especially Maki and Mai's father Ogi, are still haunted by the memory of his capabilities. When he ends up being resurrected during the Shibuya Incident, everyone, even Dagon, are shown to be utterly terrified of him.
  • Dying as Yourself: As he impales his own head, to save Megumi from his own rampage, his eyes return to normal.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite being a merciless assassin for hire, Toji is shown in his final moments to love his son Megumi despite having previously forgotten his name, telling Gojo that the House of Zen'in plans to take him away, not wanting his son to be a pawn of the family that ruined him. When he's resurrected in the body of Ogami's grandson, he snaps out of his mindless state when in Megumi's presence and kills himself to save his son.
    • The last moments he saw before he was going to die was Megumi's mother happily holding onto their child. Additionally, it was stated in his profile that he became unstable due to the stress of being in the Zen'in clan, but his first wife helped him calm down, and he even took her family name as his own. It was also implied her death took a toll on his mental well-being. Also, there was a poll that was made for the characters and going on to Megumi's mother, Akutami commented she was the only woman Toji gave himself fully to. It's implied she was the one who told him to care of Megumi when he went to go see Naobito to sell off Megumi.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Besides the Zen'in being too awful even for him, in part because his insane physical gifts and lack of Cursed Energy made a mockery of Jujutsu beliefs, Toji's incredulous reaction to the leader of the Time-Vessel Association congratulating them on a job well done and putting in extra pay proves that while he might take any job, he won't approve of every cause.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Ogami transmutes her groomed faux-grandson's body into a duplicate of Toji's during the Shibuya Incident in an attempt to create the strongest possible pawn, but his Heavenly Restriction nullifies Séance's effects and fully revives him, which Toji celebrates by immediately caving her skull in with his fist and going on a rampage.
  • Evil Sounds Raspy: Toji's voice in the English version by Nicolas Roye has a very subtle raspy tone which highlights his nonchalant attitude and suave confidence.
  • Familiar: On missions, Toji is accompanied by a worm-like cursed spirit that he uses to store his multitude of weapons. The worm conceals the residual cursed energy of his cursed tools and can shrink down to a minuscule size in order to be consumed and hidden within Toji's body, allowing him to stealthily maneuver around without being noticed. The worm is seen being used for the same purpose by Suguru Geto during Volume 0, implying that Geto had captured the curse for himself after encountering it following Toji's death.
  • Fatal Flaw: Pride. Toji admits to himself in his final moments that he had lost his true sense of self somewhere along the way and instead acted on his pride and need for self-affirmation. This desire caused him to recklessly challenge someone he acknowledged as the World's Strongest Man rather than act on self-preservation, wanting to crush the pinnacle of the jujutsu world to prove himself but instead dying for it.
  • Foil: To Gojo. Both are laid-back individuals who absolutely excel in what they do (Gojo with his sorcery, Toji with his physical ability) and sit on opposite ends of the physical strength-spiritual strength scale. Towards the end of their encounter, they both display a heightened sense of pride in their own strength, and fight purely to affirm these feelings, disregarding anything else.
  • Form-Fitting Wardrobe: During his fight with Gojo, he wore a tight black muscle shirt that did a good job of showing how absolutely ripped he is.
  • The Gambling Addict: He has several scenes where he tries to raise money by betting on horse and jet ski races. He lost every single time, with his handler Kong's reaction indicating this was a rather common occurence with him.
  • The Gift: The ruby text for his Heavenly Restriction literally reads as "Physically Gifted". Put bluntly, Toji is to Professional Killers and martial artists with Fantastic Fighting Styles and even to teenage Gojo and Geto what Wilt Chamberlain was to basketball in the 60's; completely unprecedented.
  • The Greatest Story Never Told: Toji actually kills himself in his fight with Megumi. Megumi at that point could not understand the significance of that act or why Toji does it in the first place. It's because he's happy his son isn't a Zen'in, thus, wouldn't be a tool to be used and disposed as necessary.
  • Has a Type: A kind of woman he can be the Gold Digger to and freeload off of. His first wife caught his eye because she could soothe him after the abusive upbringing under the Zen'in. Humorously, he tells off the Kuchisake-Onna by invoking Not My Type, though in the manga he admits that she at least looks interesting enough for a fling.
  • The Heavy: He's "merely" a mercenary employed by the Time Vessel Association to kill Riko Amanai. As the Association is solely comprised of Muggles that pose no challenge to Gojo & Geto, he's the real main threat of the flashback arc.
  • Hidden Depths: This man is a menace to society, there is no two ways about it. The anime demonstrates it firsthand by having Toji messily eat his dumplings in a ramen joint, standing up to go get tea and him bumping into a dude minding his business causing him to drop and shatter his ramen bowl as a result. Toji doesn't even slow down, gets his tea, then stomps through the dropped ramen without paying the guy as much as a thought, scaring him off with a Death Glare while still on the phone when he pressed Toji. He dine-and-dashes, he has left multiple women in lifelong debt after the death of his first wife, and he's a slasher-movie like Professional Killer who will use Hope Spot, Combat Pragmatism and shoot an innocent teenage girl in the head for enough money. But as he reveals both in his final moments twice, he genuinely loves his son and asks Gojo to "do what you want" with him with the implication that he wanted Megumi taken care of and far out of the Zen'in's hands.
  • Horrifying the Horror: The Zen'in made him a taboo member who they treated like crap because the idea of a Cursed Energy-less man being able to effortlessly kill every proud Sorcerer in the clan with his bare hands if it fancied him terrifies them, and thus he had it mildly better than Maki or Mai due to their fear of payback. When Ogi Zen'in feels Maki approach him after gaining the same power as Toji he is chilled to the bone with terror, recalling Toji as if he was a lifelong trauma. Dagon is also reduced to terror and awe when Toji shows up out of nowhere inside its Domain Expansion and proceeds to beat the shit out of it far better than the Sorcerers it was already engaging, as from it's perspective, someone like Toji shouldn't even be able to see it.
Narrator: Those who inherited the Curse of the Zen'in Family. The one who couldn't fully leave behind that Curse. They would all bear witness... to the bare flesh of the one who is free. To the one who left it all behind, and his overwhelming intensity!!
  • Hunk: He is a tall and handsome man with the muscular build of a bodybuilder.
  • I Can't Sense Their Presence: Toji's strategy in dealing with jujutsu sorcerers hinges on this. Due to emitting no cursed energy, sorcerers have to rely purely on their human senses in order to notice when he approaches them, which is infuriatingly difficult because Toji is also incredibly fast. He took so long wearing down Gojo mentally because even as a child, Gojo was the only person to ever acknowledge Toji's presence when he was trying not to be seen.
"Jujutsu Sorcerers are busy this time of year. Plus, Fly Heads have infested the school and things are hectic outside. For someone like me with no Cursed Energy, it's like being the invisible man."
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Took aim at Geto and emptied the whole clip of his gun at him dead center (Geto bodyblocked them using a small Curse) while being tackled into the cave's roof by a huge dragon that was obscuring his view.
  • The Juggernaut: When brought back by a necromancer who Didn't Think This Through in the Shibuya Incident, he proceeds to absolutely dunk on and steamroll everyone he meets with his bare hands and it only gets much worse after he rips Playful Cloud out of Maki's hands like she was holding his favorite toy. The only injury this zombie ever suffered? His suicide to save his own son from himself.
  • Killed Off for Real: Despite Megumi's initial claim that he was still alive, the story later reveals Toji was killed by none other than Satoru Gojo.
  • Last Request: Before he dies, his final act is to tell Gojo about how the Zen'in family is planning to take Megumi away, not wanting his son to become a tool of the family that ruined him.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Almost every single Sorcerer is a superhuman barehanded fighter. Toji is something else entirely, a walking human blender with completely monstrous strength, toughness and speed handing out beatings and death with a shockingly feral yet calculated expression on his face the entire time, and he does it with no Cursed Energy, something which horrifies everyone he fights. Even Gojo had trouble landing a blow on him, with the few he did barely even slowing him down.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son:
    • Megumi is a cold yet good-natured individual who wants to help those who're good as a jujutsu sorcerer, and was born with the Zen'in family's coveted Ten Shadows Technique. Toji, on the other hand, is a merciless assassin-for-hire and was born with a Heavenly Restriction, being the only human without any cursed energy at all in exchange for superhuman physicality. Megumi is also rather apathetic towards romance in general whereas Toji frequently hooked up with women, if mainly so he could mooch off their wealth.
    • The Zen'in clan looked down upon Toji for having zero cursed energy. The family tree in Volume 17 reveals that his father (who was also Naobito's older brother) was the 25th head of the clan.
  • The Lost Lenore: Megumi's mother. He became calm when he got with her, but after her death, he returned back to the state he was in back when he was with the Zen'in Clan. It's implied her death was one of the reasons he decided to abandon Megumi and sell him to the Zen'in Clan because he thought he would be able to get a better life there than Toji raising him.
  • Mage Killer: He's known as the Sorcerer Killer for a reason, using his superhuman physicality and cursed tools to fight even the best jujutsu sorcerers, especially with his Inverted Spear of Heaven which can even stop cursed techniques upon contact.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: Toji's Heavenly Restriction caused him to be born with absolutely zero cursed energy, making him incapable of projecting it from his body in any form, none of which stops him from being skilled in combat enough to go toe-to-toe with first rate jujutsu sorcerers.
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: His assassination of Riko goes off without a hitch, but Gojo avenges her death and kills him with Hollow Purple before his payment could be processed.
  • Multi-Melee Master: On top of being able to flatline Sorcerers with his bare hands, being a highly trained assassin, he's seen wielding a multitude of weapons with inhuman expertise. Including but not limited to; normal katanas, The Soul Liberation Blade, a spear-tip, daggers, a large fishing hook-like knife to stab the frontal lobe, an infinitely long chain and a handgun that he all stores inside a Cursed Spirit. When he's brought back during the Shibuya Incident, he also steals Playful Cloud from Maki and uses it far better than she or Geto ever did, using his Super-Strength to sharpen the three-section staff into improvised shortspears.
  • Mundane Utility: Being nigh-undetectable and super fast is apparently really useful for dine-and-dashing.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Toji has a very muscular figure complete with a bodybuilder's V-taper waistline and is a highly trained assassin who primarily fights using blatantly superhuman martial arts and weaponry skills.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Arguably, this is the most dangerous thing about him; on top of being superhumanly fast and strong, Toji will do whatever it takes to get the job done quickly and efficiently, whether it's blindsiding opponents from out of nowhere or using a gun in combat. He nearly kills Gojo with brutal stabs to the throat and brain and cuts him open like a pork sausage without giving him a chance to counterattack. On top of that, he actually succeeds in his misson of killing Riko; he shoots her in the head then curb-stomps Geto afterwards, only sparing him so he can live with the shame of losing to a non-sorcerer. His sole mistake was not confirming Gojo's death, but then again, who could blame him?
  • Noodle Incident: Because he could only exorcise Curses with a Cursed Tool and had absolutely no Cursed Energy, the Zen'in made him a pariah and in cruel mockery of his "inability" in their eyes, threw him unarmed into the same "training room" Maki and Mai get thrown into during Perfect Preparation, from which he came out alive with the scar on his lip.
  • One True Love: Despite being in countless flings and married again, it seems that Megumi's mother was Toji's true love. He took in her last name and didn't change it even while married to Tsumiki's mother. Plus, he never had any other biological children than just Megumi. His last moments involved seeing only her and Megumi. When he meets his son again while temporarily snapping out of his mind control, he recalls what implies to be her voice asking him to take care of Megumi. Akutami's comment on a character poll says she was the person Toji gave himself fully to and being the only person to calm him down after coming from the abusive Zen'in household.
  • Only in It for the Money: Does dirty jobs entirely because he's being paid very well for them and has absolutely absurd spendings to pay. When faced with Satoru Gojo, however, he gives in to his pride and pays for it with his life.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Being entirely without Cursed Energy, Toji simply does not play by the same rules as other human beings, and he's just as much of a paradox to Sorcerers. Barriers register him as an object and his body is so powerful that it completely overrides another man's soul when summoned into his body via Seance, creating an unstoppable Sorcerer-killing machine as a result that immediately murders Granny Ogami, who summoned him in the first place.
Toji: Kill Sorcerers, huh? Guess that'd have to include you.
    Ogami: Wai-!
  • Posthumous Character: Has been dead for 11 years, having been killed in battle by Gojo.
  • Pretty Freeloader: Rare male example; Gege describes Toji as a "pro at freeloading off of women" in an end-of-chapter note and has left more than one of these flings in lifelong debt purchasing stupidly expensive Cursed Tools with their money.
End of chapter note with an arrow pointing to the Soul Liberation Blade: 500,000,000¥.
  • Professional Killer: An assassin by trade, killing for money with the skills taught to him by the Zen'in Clan.
  • Red Baron: "The Sorcerer Killer."
  • The Resenter: He did his best to keep it under control and acted aloof about it on a day-to-day basis but deep down Toji had a lot of grievances with the Zen'in clan and Jujutsu society as a whole due to the mistreatment he received as a youth thanks to his lack of Cursed Energy. When he defeats both Gojo and Geto in their initial battles, he mocks them both for losing to someone who wasn't even a true sorcerer, and it's also the primary reason he impulsively tries to take down the revived Gojo despite there being no material gain in the act.
  • Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: His handler Shiu Kong reunites with him as Toji is losing a shitload of money on a misplaced bet on a racehorse's (jet ski racing in the anime) win, and Shiu also accuses him of regularly dine-and-dashing or leaving his clients to cover the pay at good restaurants.
  • Rugged Scar: Toji has a perpetual scowl on his face thanks to a scar across his lip which he got from getting thrown into the Zen'in Clan's training room full of Cursed Spirits and fighting his way out.
  • Shoot the Mage First: When trying to assassinate Riko, of the group guarding her he chooses to stab Gojo from behind first to try to take him out, knowing that having the Six Eyes he's by far the strongest sorcerer in the group. Gojo is fine by having his vital organs avoided from being hit and reinforcing his body with cursed energy to avoid further damage.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Toji only ever appears alive in one arc, yet he has a massive impact on the story and characters of Jujutsu Kaisen, both directly and indirectly. Toji is continuously brought up long after his death, either because his actions had a ripple effect on the plot or because his actions prompt internal change in other characters.
  • Spanner in the Works: Toji's assassination of the Star Plasma Vessel prior to the story beginning caused Master Tengen to evolve to a form that's more Curse than man, meaning that Kenjaku, with Geto's power to control Curses, could gain control of him and finally tip the uneasy balance between Curses and humans. As Tengen puts it, Toji shattered the chains of destiny between The Six Eyes, Tengen and Kenjaku without even knowing, while simultaneously causing Gojo's ascendance to the true World's Strongest Man and Geto's Start of Darkness.
  • Shadow Archetype: To Maki, both are Zen'in Clansmen who were ostracized for having Heavenly Restrictions, but Toji's abusive upbringing shaped him into a man who kills whoever's he's paid to without a second thought. Maki only ever uses lethal force on those who had it coming.
  • Shout-Out: This absolute demon of a man actually hits his own son with the Mr. Smith vs Neo block and counter from The Matrix.
  • Slasher Smile: He has a pseudo Psychotic Smirk most of the time in a fight, but adopts an absolutely demonic smile with Blank White Eyes whenever he goes for the kill, as seen against Gojo, Dagon and Ino.
  • So Proud of You: Toji's last words to Megumi after his resurrection are essentially relief that Megumi kept the name Fushiguro instead of taking the name of Toji's estranged clan. Though Toji made it cryptic enough that Megumi would never know the significance of this or why he said it.
Toji: Hey you, what's your name?
    Megumi: ...Fushiguro.
Toji: Fushiguro, and not Zen'in? That makes me glad.
  • Speed Blitz: As Megumi puts it, Toji goes way beyond "fast". He frequently moves so quickly that there's not even time for people to process that he was there, and his agility makes the laws of physics look like the suggestions of physics when he casually runs on water, does a Flash Step while mid-air, and rips apart Dagon's Death Swarm like he was going for a high-score and giving the Curse itself more stabbings per second when he had it in checkmate than Julius Caesar got from the Senate.
  • Stealth Expert: His lack of cursed energy makes him nearly invisible to sorcerers combined with his Super-Speed and Super-Senses, but using cursed tools would reveal his location due to the cursed energy they exude. He gets around this by either using his worm cursed spirit to conceal his cursed tools and hide the spirit and tools' residual energy by swallowing the worm whole or just using conventional weapons such as handguns or swords.
  • Stomach of Holding: His familiar keeps several Cursed tools hidden inside its stomach. And he keeps said familiar inside his stomach so that it, and by extension his arsenal, can't be detected.
  • Strong and Skilled: Toji is a powerhouse who surpasses nearly everyone in terms of raw physical abilities due to his Heavenly Restriction, but he is also an assassin who is experienced in killing sorcerers making him a very tactical fighter that can put his gifts to good. Even with his resurrection he still maintains all of his combat skills though on a more instinctual level due to his now deteriorated mindset.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He looks exactly like Megumi would probably look like in his early 30's, except taller, considerably more muscular, with a shorter haircut and a Rugged Scar across his lip. When Megumi's hair isn't set the resemblances only becomes more uncanny.
  • Super-Senses: Due to the effects of his Heavenly Restriction, his five senses are heightened by a massive degree, allowing him to even track people by scent alone. This also somehow lets him see and interact with Jujutsu despite it being Invisible to Normals.
  • Super-Speed: To such a level that Gojo can barely keep track of Toji when he starts really moving, which is usually depicted as a rapidly approaching blur with a Slasher Smile. His successor in Maki ends up able to Nonchalant Dodge Naoya ramming her at Mach 3 which... yeah...
  • Super-Strength: Easily the strongest human in the story, if not to ever live. When asked which character was the physically strongest, Gege removed Toji from the equation entirely because he thought it was obvious. Using Playful Cloud he beats Dagon, a Special Grade Cursed Spirit remarked upon for its great vitality, to death in a matter of moments after it more or less no sold everything Naobito, Maki and Nanami were throwing at it. He was also able to kick and throw entire trucks at Megumi in their fight.
  • Super-Toughness: Gojo booting him through buildings with Infinity doesn't even slow him down, with Red only making him mention that his bones hurt a bit as he's stretching the ache out of his shoulders. Toji also didn't even flinch at being Eaten Alive by Cursed Spirits summoned by Geto through just cutting his way out in short order, and completely No Sells the Kuchisake-Onna's domain attempting to cut his ears off. Having no Cursed Energy also makes him functionally immune to certain Cursed Techniques which can cause serious Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors, and Toji can pick rock and scissors at the same time.
  • Tall, Dark, and Snarky: He's very tall, muscular, handsome, has short dark hair, and has plenty of snark.
  • Took the Wife's Name: Toji took his first wife's name after marrying her and kept it even after she passed away and he remarried to Tsumiki's mother, doing so out of spite for the Zen'in family.
  • Torso with a View: He dies after taking a hit from Gojo's Hollow Purple resulting in a huge hole in the left side of his abdomen.
  • Uniqueness Value: He's the first person in history to have zero cursed energy whatsoever. Maki, who has a similar Heavenly Restriction, is just locked out of using her available cursed energy, but Toji fundamentally has none to begin with and yet is more powerful than her to a bizarre degree because of it. Yuki calls upon him as a unique case study, and laments his death as she can no longer use him as a research subject for her plan to rid the world of curses, though he had apparently turned her down before. He loses this to a degree when it turns out that Maki can have the same level of restriction, and thus power, as he does if Mai dies (as she was unconsciously using a measure of that energy from Mai herself), which she gains after the aforementioned death happens.
  • Unsorcerer: Despite being part of the prestigious Zen'in family, the son of the previous patriarch at that, he was born with a Heavenly Restriction that resulted in him having absolutely zero Cursed Energy, with even Muggles producing more than he does, which made him the Black Sheep of the clan. The trade off is that he has superhuman strength, speed, and senses that could let him absolutely thrash most people and is uttery undetectable by most sorcerers, which made him a frighteningly deadly assassin and Mage Killer.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: From Toji's standpoint, he just had to kill a girl for some money. Little did he know that the death of the Star Plasma Vessel would start the chain of events that leads to the death of Suguru Geto, allowing for the ancient sorcerer known as Kenjaku to take his body and further his plans.
  • Variable-Length Chain: He possesses a cursed tool known as the Chain of a Thousand Miles that can extend indefinitely as long as one end is fully concealed. He uses it in conjunction with the Inverted Spear of Heaven to make it an Anti-Cursed Technique Blade on a Rope that can strike at anything within his vision, no matter the distance to the target. Didn't save him from Gojo's Hollow Purple, though.
  • Victory by Endurance: Upon learning that Gojo would be the one guarding his target, Toji decided to try and tip the scales in his favor by setting up a bounty on Amanai to attract other Jujutsu bounty hunters after them. While none of them were strong enough to do any damage to him, the sheer number of them being sent after him, as well as having to be on guard the entire time in case of more sneak attacks, left Gojo somewhat exhausted and not at his best by the time Toji finally decided to strike.
  • Weapon-Based Characterization: His preferred Cursed Tool is the Playful Cloud, a three-part staff that has no cursed technique: it's just really good for ass-kicking. Obtained by Geto after Toji's first death, it then ended up in the hands of Maki, before Toji wrested it from of her out of nowhere. Somewhat off-the-rails in his summoned state, Toji broke the weapon down into a grisly stabbing implement as he grew progressively more brutal, before planting what was left of it into his own skull to prevent himself from harming his son.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Upon being confronted with a healed and completely off his rocker Satoru Gojo, the words "Something's off" start to ring repeatedly in his head. So focused he is on defeating the strongest of sorcerers once more he does not realize the voice is his Fight Or Flight instinct telling him to run away as fast as possible, so he pushes down his wariness and goes on the attack, confident his previous knowledge of Gojo's techniques will help him win again. It would be the first, and last time he would ever make such a mistake.
  • White Sheep: Downplayed; he's still a ruthless assassin for hire who willingly took up a job to kill a teenage girl thus unwittingly triggering Geto's Start of Darkness, but still comes off as more likable than most of the Zen'in clan who represent the worst aspects of Jujutsu society, and he treated his children far better than the clan ever treated him or Maki.
  • Wild Card:
    • Takes this role in the Shibuya arc. While the sorcerers' focus is on defeating the curses and rescuing Gojo, Toji currently exists purely to hunt down and fight who he perceives to be the strongest opponent — no matter what side they are on. Everyone is understandably confused when he shows up in the fight against Dagon, only to take Dagon on himself.
    • Toji is noted to have been this in-universe by Kenjaku. According to Kenjaku, he never accounted for Toji nor did he ever expect that he would be able to defeat Satoru Gojo and kill Riko before she was able to fuse with Tengen. Although Toji himself never knew it, by killing Riko he effectively gave Kenjaku the opportunity he needed to go forward with merging Tengen and the people of Japan.
  • World's Best Warrior: One of the most powerful characters in the story, but with the very important caveat that he doesn't have any cursed energy. Thanks to his heavenly pact, Toji has superhuman strength, speed, and senses on top of a naturally acquired affinity with weapons and cursed tools. Capable of even killing high level Special Grades and sorcerers alike, he's acknowledged by Gege Akutami to be the strongest around. Toji also has the distinct honor of being the man who almost killed Satoru Gojo, a feat no other can claim...That is until Ryomen Sukuna shows up.
  • The Worf Effect: He demonstrates just why he's so feared as the Sorcerer Killer by being the first person to not just land a hit on Gojo on-screen, but nearly kill him with a brutal No-Holds-Barred Beatdown and shanking him in the head hard enough for the impact to crater the ground.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He had no qualms on accepting the contract to kill Amanai, who was only 14 at the time, or trying to kill the teenaged Geto and Gojo when they try to stop him.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: In the anime, by preventing Dagon from backwards movement by wrapping Playful Cloud around its neck, Toji hits the Cursed Spirit with the mother of all dropkicks.
