    Xo Lahru

Jedi Grand Master Xo Lahru

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lahru_sw.png

Species: Anx

One of the three current Grand Masters of the Jedi Order, Lahru rose to fame within the Jedi Order thanks to his study of midi-chlorians.

  • All There in the Manual: His background as a scientist is only mentioned in the reference book Chronicles of the Jedi.
  • Living Legend: His study and scientific discoveries regarding midi-chlorians made him a famous and influential member of the Order due to giving the Jedi a better understanding of them and the ability to more accurately detect them in living beings.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard green-bladed lightsaber.
  • Long-Lived: Lahru is mentioned as being a Master in Path of Deceit, which is set 150 years prior to his appearance in Light of the Jedi. His cameo in The Blade reveals he is also on the Jedi Council around that time, making him a long-standing presence in leadership of the Jedi Order.
  • Minor Major Character: Despite his status as a Grand Master, Lahru has thus far only had brief appearances in a few works during council meetings. The first issue of Shadows of Starlight is the first time he has a significant role as he and Veter announce the institution of the guardian protocols in response to the Nihil threat.

    Pra-Tre Veter

Jedi Grand Master Pra-Tre Veter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/80c07a13_2457_49fc_b4e0_d45081c4d824.jpeg

Species: Tarnab

"Our role is to help in other ways. To solve problems in the Jedi manner."

An ancient Grand Master who serves as one of the leaders of the Jedi Council. Veter has focused his efforts on strengthening the relationship between the Jedi Order and the office of the Supreme Chancellor.

  • Badass in Distress: Two months before The Eye of Darkness, the Nihil capture him in the process of defending a settlement on the border of the Stormwall from them.
  • Big Good: Shares this role with Chancellor Soh in Phase I of The High Republic, as he is the most active and involved Grand Master in the main plotlines due to Yoda's sabbatical from the council. To highlight how dire things have gotten in Phase III, Marchion Ro has him publicly executed on the Holonet in a horrific manner just to demoralize the Republic and Jedi.
  • Callousness Towards Emergency: When he first joined the Jedi Council he viewed things like distress calls from remote planets on the frontier to be distractions beneath the Council's notice and believed that someone else could respond to them. Fellow Councilor Ela Sutan called him out for this, noting that was not the Jedi way and that he should not forget that from his new seat on the Council.
  • Character Development: He initially believed that the Council should focus on big issues and not be distracted by what he considered lesser problems. However, learning of Yoda's work with the Scalvi on the planet Turrak and how he needed years to solve the issues of the planet teaches Veter that the Council cannot see themselves above such things and the importance of patience on a larger scale.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: While in the Nihil's captivity, Marchion Ro subjects Veter to various physical and psychological tortures. Such torture includes being starved, having his horns cut off, and being slowly calcified by the mere presence of a Nameless short of complete petrification (and losing an arm in the process), all while suffering from being cut off from the Force.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: After two months of torture and a mock trial as a way of "celebrating" the one-year anniversary of Starlight Beacon's fall, Marchion Ro has Veter publicly executed via the Great Leveler to make an example to the Republic and the Jedi. To add even more insult injury, not only did Marchion have a captive pro-Republic reporter show this, he also broadcast it on Starlight's original channel.
  • Defiant to the End: Resists giving in to despair while held captive by the Nihil, and during his "trial" he rejects any formal authority or standing Marchion tries to claim and denounces them as murderers and terrorists. His defiance is only stopped by the presence of the Great Leveler driving him mad with fear, but he had no defense against that.
  • Dissonant Laughter: Rather surprisingly, Veter begins laughing and seemingly has the time of his life while fighting the Nihil unarmed on Asternin and using one of their rappel ropes to board their ship. Coming from a Grand Master who up until that point had been a fairly stoic and polite individual, such laughter was very unexpected.
  • Ground-Shattering Landing: His capture involves being electrocuted by the anti-border defenses aboard a Nihil ship and then falling hundreds of feet into the ground, creating an impact crater when he hits. While Veter is still conscious after the fall, he is injured enough that he can no longer move or resist capture by Captain Melis Shryke.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When the Nihil attack Asternin, he decides to fend off the Nihil, knowing that he has a high bounty on his head due to his status as Grand Master, and while he manages to take down many Nihil in spite of having his lightsaber nullified, he's eventually incapacitated by a booby trap on Melis Shryke's ship and captured. This act also buys time for Bell Zettifar and Burryaga to evacuate the citizens of Solunus.
  • Horned Humanoid: As a Tarnab, he naturally fits into this category. The Nihil cut off his horns as part of his torture, trying to shame him and erase his identity as a Tarnab, but Veter's discipline helps him rise above this petty tactic.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: He is a master of the unarmed Force martial art known as Shon-Ju. When his lightsaber is deactivated by the Nihil, they think he will be an easy capture, but Veter immediately begins kicking all of their asses with a mixture of Force-enhanced unarmed strikes and telekinetic throws.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard blue-bladed lightsaber.
  • Long-Lived: He first joined the Jedi Council around 150 years prior the Great Disaster.
  • Old Master: Similarly to Yoda, he is an older looking Jedi who walks around with a cane, but when it comes time to fight Veter is a swift moving and agile warrior who doesn't need a lightsaber to take on dozens of opponents.
  • Sacrificial Lion: His capture and execution at the start of Phase III shows that the Nihil are capable of capturing and killing even Jedi Grand Masters at that stage of their power.
  • White Mage: Has the vibe of one due to his long white beard and long wooden cane.

    Ry Ki-Sakka

Grand Master Ry Ki-Sakka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ry_ki_sakka_sw.png

Species: Human

"When all is said and done, being true to ourselves is the only path toward true peace."

A self-sufficient Jedi who spent most of his years on the frontier of the Republic, Ki-Sakka returned to Coruscant and accepted a seat upon the Jedi Council to replace Master Jora Malli after she died fighting the Nihil.

  • Don't Call Me "Sir": When Elzar addresses him as Grand Master in private, Ki-Sakka asks him not to, preferring to leave formalities for official meetings only.
  • Even the Loving Hero Has Hated Ones: While "hated" may be a bit of an overstatement, Ki-Sakka really does not like Azlin Rell and makes no effort to hide his disgust and mistrust towards the fallen Jedi.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard purple-bladed lightsaber.
  • Minor Major Character: Although he is a member of the Council, his joining of it during Phase I happened off-screen and he makes no actual appearance until Phase III. The Eye of Darkness has him as one of the most prominent and active members of the Council, taking the lead in several meetings and decisions for the Order.
  • Noodle Incident: It is suggested that he faced a choice regarding the Dark Side in his past. When the Council questions Azlin Rell's claim he fell to the Dark Side because there was no choice, Ki-Sakka states that there is always a choice. Azlin seems amused by this and states that Ki-Sakka would know, causing him to begin to respond but fall silent.
  • Rank Up: Initially joined the Council after Jora Malli's death, and then ascended to the rank of Grand Master after Veter's capture by the Nihil.

    Stellan Gios

Jedi Master Stellan Gios

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stellan_gios_sw_5.png

Species: Human

The former master of Vernestra Rwoh and an old comrade of Avar Kriss and Elzar Mann, Stellan was stationed at a Jedi Temple on the distant planet Caragon-Viner and Hynestia. He was the former Padawan of Rana Kant and succeeded her chair on the council, quickly becoming one of the faces of the Jedi Order to the Republics citizenry.

  • 100% Heroism Rating: He was already a popular Jedi amongst the Republic citizens before the attack on the Republic fair on Valo, but in the aftermath the footage of him fighting the Nihil and holding the badly injured Chancellor Soh become iconic images and make him one of the most recognizable and respected figures in the galaxy.
  • The Apprentice: He was trained by Rana Kant, who went on to become a leading figure on the Jedi Council and whose seat Stellan would take up after she passed.
  • Beneath the Mask: Outwardly he thrives as a highly public figure for the Jedi, but underneath that he struggles with constantly living up to the image of a perfect Jedi and is frightened of showing any sign of failure or weakness.
  • Blind Obedience: Orla suggests he suffers from this towards the Jedi Council, having been so concerned about living up to the trust they put in him and his responsibilities to the Order that Stellan never thought about listening to the Force closely enough to find his own path as a Jedi despite the uneasiness he felt in the role the Council placed him in.
  • Captain Crash: It's suggested he was this in his early career, as when Vernestra is lamenting her tendency to crash ships, Master Cohmac isn't surprised when he hears that Stellan was her master and notes he was a terrible pilot as well.
  • The Chains of Commanding: After his promotion to the Council and elevated position as one of the public faces of the Order, particularly after the Nihil attack on Valo, Stellan feels intense pressure to do his job right and represent the Jedi well. This results in him becoming more uptight and angsty, as well as getting less sleep. His former padawan Vernestra becomes concerned for his wellbeing after seeing him and how tired he was a few months after Valo.
  • Childhood Friends: With Emerick Caphtor, who he met when they were very young in one of the Jedi Temple's creches.
  • Celibate Hero: Although it was rumored that he was more than friends with both Avar and Elzar in their younger days, Stellan was never actually intimate with them as he was concerned with violating the rules of the Jedi Order regarding relationships and attachment.
  • Dissension Remorse: He and Avar's friendship becomes strained due to her increasing obsession with capturing Lourna Dee leading to risky and unauthorized missions that skirt the Jedi Code at the same time Stellan is under immense pressure to represent the Council's will. He is eventually appointed to replace her as Marshal of Starlight Beacon after she leaves on one of those missions, with Stellan feeling a lot of resentment towards her for putting him such a position which is amplified by the creatures Marchion Ro unleashed into the station. Upon realizing how the creatures were affecting him and actively causing him to root for Avar to fail or be embarrassed, Stellan regrets ever letting it get to that point but never gets the chance to mend fences with her before his death.
  • Dual Wielding: During the Battle of Valo he uses both his and his master's lightsabers to defend Chancellor Soh and Togruta Queen Elarec Yovet.
  • Dying as Yourself: A variation on this trope. Stellan all his life has been defined by what the Order wills. In his last moments, he goes out on his own terms.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: His lightsaber is showcased in The Lightsaber Collection guidebook.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Following his appointment the Council, he grows a beard in an effort to look more distinguished in his new position. However, after the Battle of Valo Stellan neglects trimming his beard and admits to Vernestra that he has been so busy he had not had the time to keep it from becoming unkempt.
  • The Face: His personable nature, good looks, and recent elevation to the Council cause the Order to make Stellan one of their public faces, which includes pairing him with reporter Rhil Dairo prior to the Valo Fair. His heroics during the Nihil attack on the fair elevates him even further into the public's view.
  • Fatal Flaw: His obedience to the Jedi Council and rules of the Order made him repress feelings and thoughts for decades, making him increasingly miserable while projecting a mask of being the stalwart Jedi. This conflict with the Nihil began breaking that mask and left Stellan open to being heavily affected by the Nameless that were unleashed upon Starlight. All this leads to his death, as he while he does the best he can to try and save Starlight after it was sabotaged, a few critical mistakes caused by that stress and feelings result in him needing to sacrifice his life instead of evacuating.
  • Freudian Trio: The Superego to Avar's Ego and Elzar's Id, being the strictest adherent to the Jedi Order's principals and the will of the Council. He often clashes with Elzar's impulsive actions and while Avar tried to balance between them, Stellan's relationship with her becomes strained as she clashed with the Council over the appropriate actions against the Nihil.
  • The Hero Dies: He is one of the primary protagonists of Phase I of The High Republic and the one who had the best public image and reputation as a heroic figure in-universe. His death due to the Nihil's destruction of Starlight signals to both the readers and the characters that no-one is safe from Marchion Ro's plots and reign of terror.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Remains aboard the crashing bottom half of Starlight Beacon in order to use its thrusters to maneuver it into crashing into the ocean instead of a coastal city on Eiram.
  • Laser Blade: A blue-bladed lightsaber with crossguards from both the blade and the hilt.
  • Memento MacGuffin: After his former master Rana Kant passes away Stellan discovers her lightsaber left in his quarters. He carries it around for a while afterwards instead of turning it over to the Temple to be stored in a repository, which ends up saving his life when he loses his during battle against the Nihil. Stellan ultimately passes it onto Bell Zettifar after the padawan loses his to the bottom of a lake during the attack on the Republic Fair on Valo.
  • Mentor Archetype: To Vernestra Rwoh, and although she has already been knighted at the start of the series, Stellan continues to offer her advice and guidance.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: Was Vernestra's master, he dies trying to make sure Starlight Beacon crashes into Eiram's ocean.
  • Noble Male, Roguish Male: His dynamic with Elzar, who is a rakish rulebreaker while Stellan presents a more professional image and sticks to the edicts of the Order.
  • Not Himself: In The Fallen Star, the presence of the Nameless on Starlight cause Stellan's connection to the Force to become frayed and their psychological effect makes his pride and resentments intensify, to the point he is horrified by the things he thinks about Avar. The other Jedi on Starlight are similarly affected, but not to the same extent due to his recent insomnia and the pressure placed onto him by being the Jedi Order's new public face.
  • Not So Above It All: Although he has the reputation of being the most dutiful and stoic of the trio, Stellan does have a more humorous side and has a history of practical jokes both as revenge and original ideas against Elzar and Avar.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: On a mission to Pamarthe Stellan got into a situation that required his life to be saved by Orla Jareni, who makes sure to remind him quite frequently of this fact.
  • Present Absence: In Phase III, Stellan's absence is felt strongly by many characters. Avar is haunted by how they never got a chance to mend their friendship, Elzar blames himself for Stellan's death and tries his best to live up to his example and takes over a number of his duties, and Vernestra finds herself lost without his guidance.
  • Propaganda Hero: As part of the news coverage of the Republic Fair, Stellan is selected by the Council and Chancellor to be one of the faces of the Jedi Order and be followed by reporter Rhil Dairo. This is the start of Stellan becoming a well-known and popular public figure, and also his anxiety about living up to the image cultivated around him.
  • Rank Up: After Rana dies of natural causes, Stellan is selected to be elevated to the Jedi Council and take her seat.
  • Third Wheel: With Avar and Elzar having had a romantic element to their relationship, Stellan felt some jealousy over not the fact they were together, but that his two best friends had an added layer to their friendship that he could not share in. He kept those feelings to himself for years, and it was only when the stress of the Nihil crisis and his duties on the Council wore him down emotionally that they began to affect his relationship with them.
  • True Companions: With Avar and Elzar - as initiates and padawans the three would immediately seek each out whenever they returned to the Jedi Temple and share with each other all their adventures. Even the Masters knew better than to try and separate the three, as their friendship made them stronger, and they always worked extremely well as a team.
  • Underestimating Badassery: After the massive losses inflicted on the Nihil following their attack on the Republic fair, Stellan assumed that the remnants of the group were disorganized and on the run with few resources or the capability to craft intricate plans. Even after Starlight Beacon was sabotaged and bombed, Stellan assumed it was a few diehards whose efforts could easily be undone, only to soon realize how complete their sabotage was and that it was part of a very complex plan to slowly destroy Starlight while the galaxy watched.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: His friendships with Elzar and Orla Jareni are this. He and Elzar frequently prank or tease each other, while he and Orla have a more tense version, both trusting each other implicitly but frequently arguing over their respective paths in the Jedi Order.

    Jora Malli

Jedi Master Jora Malli

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jora_malli_sw.png

Species: Togruta

The master of Dez Rydan and Reath Silas. She resigned from the Council in favor of leading the Jedi Order's section of the Starlight Beacon, but dies soon after during a battle against the Nihil in the Kur Nebula.

  • Best Friend: Sskeer was hers, and she selected him as her second at Starlight due to knowing she could trust him fully due to their long friendship.
  • Character Tic: When frustrated she taps on her lekku.
  • Composite Character: As a female Togruta Jedi Master, comparisons can be made to Shaak Ti (a Togruta Jedi Master who was given the role of an overseer) and Ahsoka Tano (a Togruta Jedi who wields purified white lightsabers).
  • Light Is Good: She wields a white-bladed lightsaber, made from a purified kyber crystal that originally belonged to an ancient Sith lightsaber.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: During the Great Disaster, she and Reath are separated and she ends up dead, leaving Reath to deal with Into the Dark and beyond without a master.
  • Noodle Incident: She has a white-bladed lightsaber because she wanted to see if she could purify the kyber crystal of an ancient Sith lightsaber. It worked, and she ended up liking it enough that it became her main lightsaber. Though which Sith it originally belonged to is also an interesting question...
  • Not Enough to Bury: As her starfighter was destroyed during the chaos of the Battle of the Kur Nebula, Jora's remains were unable to be recovered and the traditional Jedi funeral rites could not be administered, much to the grief of Reath.
  • Parental Substitute: Apparently, she caught Dez drunk after a party and never let him off the hook until he was knighted, much like a mother upset towards her kid.
  • Right Makes Might: Believes that since the Jedi are in tune with the light side of the Force, any action they took was the Force's will and that therefore debating its will was useless. However, Jora did believe that intense training and education was necessary to properly enact the Force's will.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: In Light of the Jedi, she dies in the Battle at Kur by the same accident that causes Sskeer to lose his arm, leaving Avar as the new Jedi leader of the Starlight Beacon and Reath without a master.

    Rana Kant

Jedi Master Rana Kant

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rana_kant_sw.png

Species: Duros

Appearances: Light of the Jedi

The former master of Stellan Gios. Prior to her tenure on the Jedi Council, Rana spent much of her career as a Jedi traversing the galaxy to help its citizens directly.

  • All There in the Manual: Most details on her past only come from sourcebooks.
  • Declining Promotion: The first two times she was offered a seat on the Jedi Council she turned it down, preferring to instead continue travelling the galaxy to aid those in need.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Kant was first mentioned as Stellan's master in The Lightsaber Collection.
  • Knight Errant: In her younger years Rana came to believe that the best virtues of the Jedi Code could only be expressed by wandering the galaxy and aiding its citizens, instead of staying stuck within the Temple on Coruscant.
  • Laser Blade: She owned a green-bladed lightsaber. After her passing, it was given to Stellan, who held onto it for a while before gifting it to Bell Zettifar, who lost his own lightsaber in the Nihil's attack on Valo.
  • Life Will Kill You: One of the few known Jedi who have passed of natural causes.
  • Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome: She passes away from natural causes in between Light of the Jedi and The Rising Storm.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: She's only established as Stellan's master and a member of the Jedi Council before passing away before the second major Phase I book.

    Ephru Shinn

Jedi Master Ephru Shinn

Species: Mon Calamari

Appearances: Light of the Jedi

The newest member of the Jedi Council, replacing Yoda's position in the council after the grandmaster opted to teach on the Star Hopper.

  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Appeared in the first entry of the series and was then never mentioned again. A video that was later released as an overview of the High Republic Jedi Council made no mention of her even as it listed other members that had yet to appear in any of the novels.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Unlike several other Masters (including Yoda), her position is that the Jedi should act as the sword of the Republic whenever necessary.

    Adampo

Jedi Master Adampo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/adampo_sw.png

Species: Yarkora

Appearances: Light of the Jedi | Into the Dark | The Rising Storm | The Fallen Star | Shadows of Starlight | The Eye of Darkness

"We are not hunters. We are protectors."

A scholar and linguist who tends to council against military action whenever possible.

  • All There in the Manual: His skill with languages has so far only been mentioned in reference books.
  • Character Tics: It's mentioned he tends to stroke his whiskers when thinking.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard blue-bladed lightsaber.
  • Martial Pacifist: He votes against using military action against the Nihil, believing that the Jedi are not a military force. When Supreme Chancellor Soh later asks him for Jedi Knights to accompany Republic patrols fighting Nihil, Adampo notes the Jedi are not hunters but does agree that under the active Guardian Protocols the Order could comply to aid in the protection of Republic forces and space from incursions.
  • Omniglot: He is an expert linguist, studying and learning to speak both living and extinct languages. It is said that Adampo may know more forgotten languages than even protocol droids have learned.
  • Only One Name: He has only one name, and unlike a number of Yarkora names it is not hyphenated.

    Teri Rosason

Jedi Master Teri Rosason

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/teri_rosason_sw.png

Species: Human

An elderly and confrontational member of the Jedi Council.

  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: While talking with Stellan from Coruscant after the Starlight Beacon was sabotaged and crashing, Rosason explains to him that help will be at least three hours away because so many of the local Jedi and Republic forces were responding to other Nihil attacks in the region over the past several days, at which point she and Stellan realize that those attacks were not random as previously assumed, but designed to isolate Starlight when it needed help the most and indicates that the Nihil were not on the run but operating at a higher level than previously assumed.
  • The Ghost: She's first mentioned in Light of the Jedi as being too busy in a delicate diplomatic matter to attend the council meeting.
  • Good Is Not Nice: A heroic Jedi and leading member of the Council she might be, but Rosason is a fairly unpleasant and blunt individual who tends to antagonize even other Jedi.
  • Jerkass: She has little use for niceties and frequently argues with or criticizes the decisions of other Jedi.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Despite her attitude, Rosason is the first member of the council who raises the idea that the Nihil are far more than a barely organized rabble of raiders and have in fact been playing the Jedi and Republic into believing that.
    • While she makes the mistake of not acknowledging the Drengir as a major threat in their own right, she was right about the Nihil using their threat as a distraction for the Jedi Order, as the Nihil planted Drengir seeds in key locations to keep them busy while they carried out a very devastating terrorist attack on the Republic Fair at Valo.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard green-bladed lightsaber.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite her prickly attitude in her other appearances, in Into the Dark Rosason quickly analyzes the implications of Reath Saying Too Much to Nihil agents while kindly assuring him that he couldn't have known better and that it could have been worse.
  • Underestimating Badassery: She focuses on the Nihil as the primary threat facing the Republic and dismisses the Drengir as just another tool in the Nihil's arsenal, downplaying the very real independent threat the creatures represent.

    Keaton Murag

Jedi Master Keaton Murag

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/keaton_murag_sw.png

Species: Human

A recently appointed member of the Jedi Council.

  • All There in the Manual: His past and accomplishments on Naboo are only revealed in the Chronicles of the Jedi reference book.
  • Humble Hero: While stationed on Naboo as the marshal of the Jedi Temple, he used the Force to stop an explosion at a mine that would have killed hundreds, holding it back while miners evacuated. Keaton tried to downplay his accomplishments in the aftermath, but was hailed as a hero by the Naboo monarchy.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard blue-bladed lightsaber.

    Soleil Agra

Jedi Master Soleil Agra

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/soleil_agra_sw.png

Species: Nautolan

Homeworld: Glee Anselm

An expert pilot who sits upon the Jedi Council.

  • Ace Pilot: She is said to be one of the best pilots in the Order, and was behind their evolution of the Drift maneuver in their Vectors.
  • All There in the Manual: Most of the information about her comes from reference books like Chronicles of the Jedi.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard yellow-bladed lightsaber.
  • Minor Major Character: She is a member of the Jedi Council throughout the first Phase of the High Republic, but only appears once in a hologram at the very end of the Phase. She doesn't get an in-the-flesh appearance until Phase III's Shadows of Starlight.

    Ada-Li Carro

Jedi Master Ada-Li Carro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ada_li_carro_sw.png

Species: Human

A member of the Jedi Council. An expert architect, Ada-Li's designs were critical in designing many of the newest Jedi Temples and outposts along the galactic frontier.

  • All There in the Manual: Her background as an architect who designed most of the newest outposts the Jedi have around the galaxy comes from reference books like Chronicles of the Jedi.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard blue-bladed lightsaber.

    Vernestra Rwoh

Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vernestra_rwoh_sw.png

Species: Mirialan

Portrayed by: Rebecca Henderson
"The closest we ever come to being truly one with the Force is when we're working to help make the galaxy a better place for everyone."

A recently knighted Jedi Knight, the youngest in a generation at the age of fifteen and the former Padawan of Master Stellan Gios. Vernestra was escorting an ambassador when they and their companions were stranded on a jungle moon after their ship was sabotaged by Nihil around the time of the Great Disaster. After being rescued, Vernestra was assigned to the Starlight Beacon and fought on the frontlines against both the Nihil and Drengir.

  • 10-Minute Retirement: Downplayed. During the one-year Time Skip following Starlight Beacon's destruction, she takes the path of a Jedi Wayseeker, becoming less directly involved in the Order's affairs and following the will of the Force to help those in need. Eventually, she decided to settle down on the planet Ibbe to heal from the trauma of Starlight's destruction and the losses of those she was close to. It takes a surprise visit from Avon Starros (whom Vernestra believed to have died on Starlight) and learning that Imri is alive to get her back into the fight against the Nihil.
  • The Ace: At the age of 15, she was the youngest Jedi ever to be knighted and she's Teen Genius enough to build a lightwhip mode for her lightsaber. By the end of A Test of Courage, she also becomes Imri's new master at the age of 16.
  • Action Girl: While she dislikes fighting, Vernestra is one of the most skilled Knights in the Order when it comes to combat, with her lightwhip allowing her to swiftly go through foes while having enough talent to avoid outright killing them in favor of destroying their weapons or literally disarming them to end their threat.
  • The Apprentice: She was Stellan's, although it was a shorter apprenticeship than most due to her being Knighted young. Vernestra still continued to turn to him for advice after being Knighted due to her youth and inexperience.
  • Astral Projection: While in hyperspace she occasionally goes into a deep trance that projects her mind away from her body to somewhere else in the galaxy, essentially giving her Force visions of events happening elsewhere at that moment. Vernestra has no control over the ability and is incredibly uncomfortable with it, refusing Stellan's advice to try and train it. The episodes stopped happening shortly before she was Knighted, but return unexpectedly when she and Imri are recalled to Coruscant. The events of Out of the Shadows suggest that it is connected to rare Force powers that ancient Jedi and Sith used to navigate the galaxy and the ability Mari San Tekka used to find paths, as Mari was able to call out and converse with Vernestra when she was projecting.
  • Bald Mystic: By the time of The Acolyte, Vernestra has shaved her head and added Mirialan tattoos to her scalp.
  • The Cameo: She and Imri are mentioned as showing up at the opening ceremony for the Starlight Beacon at the end of Light of the Jedi, their own perspective being told in A Test of Courage.
  • Captain Crash: After the destruction of the Steady Wing while she was aboard and losing a Vector plus a freighter from the Starlight Beacon's fleet in less than a year, Vernestra developed a reputation for being a bad pilot and bad luck on a ship. Master Nubarron, the shipmaster of Starlight Beacon, forbids her from checking out any more ships from his fleet as a result. This extends to ground vehicles as well, as she crashes Jordanna Sparkburn's speeder bike mere minutes after taking over its controls.
  • Celibate Hero: She does not feel attraction to other beings romantically or sexually, and thus isn't sure how to talk to Imri about how to deal with those issues as a Jedi.
  • Childhood Friends: She has been friends with Reath since they were younglings. After her Knighting she feels a bit awkward around him since he was still a Padawan and a year older than her, but they work well together on missions because of their long friendship.
  • Doesn't Like Guns: Dislikes using blasters, considering them to be crude and inelegant compared to lightsabers. Vernestra will use them if needed, but isn't a great shot with them due to never practicing with them.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: She doesn't like to be called "Vern". To her chagrin, Sunvale and Avon calling her that catches on with the others.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When witnessing Jordanna Sparkburn's slaughter of Nihil with the "Merry Maker", Vernestra finds herself extremely disturbed by the dispassionate brutality displayed by her ally and calls her out on it. She notes it is one thing to kill the Nihil in self-defense, but doing so in a way that is horrifically bloody and painful and that also targets those who flee is morally wrong.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: In the year after Starlight's destruction and the loss of both Stellan and Imri, Vernestra cuts her long hair into a much shorter unkempt bob, reflecting her more somber demeanor and the end of any traces of youth that remained in her.
  • Facial Markings: She has a fairly understated version of the traditional Mirialan facial tattoos, just some triangles on the outside of her eyes.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: After the fall of Starlight Beacon, she spends a few months blaming herself for the apparent deaths of Stellan, Imri, Avon and J-6. While a weight is lifted off her shoulders after learning that the latter three are still alive, she still blames herself for Stellan's death.
  • Improbable Age: Knighted at the age of 15 when most Padawans are not until their early 20s, and then she takes a Padawan at age 16, less than a year after being Knighted when most young Knights wait at least several years before taking on their first apprentice. Her youth causes several people to believe she is not a Knight or to feel insulted, believing that the Order sent a young and inexperienced Jedi to deal with a situation they don't take seriously enough, not realizing that they were actually sent one of the Order's most naturally gifted and promising Jedi.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Combined with some level of No Social Skills. When Imri mourns the death of his master, Vernestra's attempt at consoling him is assuring him that he can find a new master. Unsurprisingly, Imri gets the wrong message about this, and nearly gives in to the dark side while struggling with his feelings. Her guilt over mishandling the situation is one of the reasons she decides to take Imri on as her apprentice.
  • Kid Hero: She is the protagonist of A Test of Courage.
  • Knight Errant: After the fall of Starlight Beacon, the supposed death of Imri, and being trapped on the Frontier because of the Storm Wall, she decides to walk the path of the Jedi Wayseeker, seeking out those in need of help while the Nihil do as they please.
  • Laser Blade: She has a purple lightsaber that she can also switch to a lightwhip.
  • Meaningful Name: Roh is derived from rohit, roughly meaning "sunset" in Sanskrit. It also apparently means "rough soldier" or "curious knight" in Germanic languages.
  • The Mentor: She is Imri's new Master, a position she took both because they bonded and due to her own guilt over failing to understand his struggles after losing Master Sunvale. Vernestra finds it much more difficult than she initially believed it would be.
  • Oblivious to Love: Has no idea that Reath is attracted to her despite all the years they have known each other.
  • Older Than They Look: The Acolyte takes place a century after the Nihil crisis, which would mean that Vernestra is at least 116 years old at that point. However, as she is portrayed by Rebecca Henderson (who was then in her early 40s at the time of production), she doesn't even look half that old. It's currently unknown if this is because Mirialans (who have precedent for living longer than humans as shown through General Viess, who lived to be at least 170 years old) or Jedi age slower than most humans, or a combination thereof.
  • Purple Is Powerful: She wields a purple-bladed lightsaber.
  • Refusal of the Call: Her hyperspace visions disturb her and Vernestra refuses to try and train to control them because she wishes to avoid being seen as a "special" Jedi. Even Stellan encouraging her to embrace them cannot get her to explore them more, with her refusal to do so being one of the few points of tension between them.
  • Saved by Canon: As she is slated to appear in The Acolyte, Vernestra surviving the Nihil crisis is assured.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: Vernestra switches to casual spacefarer clothing after the destruction of Starlight Beacon and going down the path of a Wayseeker, not wishing to be recognized as a Jedi and contribute where she could as a regular person. This makes it easier for her to infiltrate the Occlusion Zone in Defy the Storm as she did not have to acquire any disguises.
  • Skilled, but Naive: Although her skills allowed her to pass her trials young, this also means she has far less experience than other Knights and makes mistakes or is prone to being tricked or manipulated in situations other Knights would catch. Vernestra comes to understand this better near the end of Out of the Shadows and resolves to guard herself against future manipulations.
  • Spanner in the Works: While wandering the galaxy in the wake of Starlight's fall, the Force brings to her Miekos, where she unwittingly finds herself saving the life of a noble pirate who was targeted for assassination by corrupt Mega Corps she had been stealing from to give back to communities who had been exploited.
  • Survivor Guilt: Feels this after the Nihil's attack on Valo, with the amount of death she witnessed there scarring her and wondering why she survived when so many other Jedi did not and if there was more she could have done to save people.
  • Technical Pacifist: She goes out of her way to avoid killing in combat if possible, but acknowledges that in some circumstances it is impossible to spare a foe without risking others lives. Killing when not needed and excessive brutality, like that shown by Jordanna Sparkburn, really disturbs Vernestra and she calls her out on it.
  • Teen Genius:
    • She's enough of a prodigy that she passed her Trials and became a Jedi Knight at only 15, making her the youngest living person to hold that rank.
    • She also managed to secretly create a lightwhip mode for her lightsaber, saying that she instantly went to making it when the idea suddenly came to her one night.
    • This is deconstructed during the events of A Test of Courage. Because of her exceptional skills and achievements for her age, she tries to avoid showing off or utilizing her skills for fear of invoking feelings of jealousy in peers that are in her age group (but are still Padawans) and potentially nudging them towards The Dark Side.
  • Weak, but Skilled: She's considered weaker in the Force than others, but makes up for it in skills and brains.
  • Whip Sword: Her lightsaber can also turn into a lightwhip, and she's the first known Light-sider that uses one of them in either Canon or Legends.

    Indeera Stokes

Jedi Knight Indeera Stokes

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/indeera_stokes_sw.png

Species: Tholothian

A Jedi Knight stationed at the Jedi Temple on Elphrona who helped save the Hetzal system from the Great Disaster and fought against Nihil raiders across the frontier.

  • Ace Pilot: She is amongst the best pilots in the Order at her time, and displays her skills when she pilots not only her Vector but Loden Greatstorm's Vector at the same time using the Force.
  • Convenient Coma: She survives her exposure to the Nameless but ends up comatose, causing poor Bell even more trauma and angst over the possibility of losing a second master to the creatures.
  • Handicapped Badass: After waking from her Nameless-induced coma, Indeera is still confined to a medical chair several months later. While noting that she is still far from recovered this does not prevent her from flying missions for the Order against the Nihil as shown in The Eye of Darkness.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a yellow-bladed lightsaber.
  • Meaningful Name: Indira is an Indian name that means "beauty".
  • The Mentor: After Loden is presumed dead, Indeera takes over as Bell's master, although she believes he should be Knighted as Loden had believed he was ready. After he rescues Burryaga and returns to Coruscant, Indeera Knights him in front of the Council.
  • Nice Girl: She is a highly compassionate and friendly Jedi whose main priority is helping to guide Bell through his grief and doubt after Loden's disappearance and presumed death.

    Ceret and Terec

Jedi Knights Ceret and Terec

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kotabitwins.png

Species: Kotabi

A pair of bond-twins, a special type of twins where the siblings are connected to each other through the Force. Stationed on Starlight Beacon, they were often tasked on missions alongside Keeve Trennis against the Drengir and Nihil.

  • Always Identical Twins: Not only are they connected, they look almost identical. However, there are subtle differences that allow others to tell them apart. Thanks to parts of their bodies getting calcified by the Leveler, they can be told apart by their specific cybernetics in Phase III.
  • Artificial Limbs: Among their post-calcification cybernetics, Ceret has a cybernetic leg while Terec has a cybernetic arm.
  • The Beastmaster: In "Light in the Darkness", they turn some of the Hutt Cartel's rancors against them.
  • Convenient Coma: Terec gets exposed to the Great Leveler while infiltrating the Nihil on Xais, which also affects Ceret through their bond. To slow the calcification (and not get killed by it), they both go into a hibernation trance that lasts from late Wave 2 to the end of Phase I. They are woken up when Keeve compels them to hear the "song of the Force" during the fall of Starlight Beacon, just in time to save Keeve from being sucked into space and help her escape the station.
  • Cyborg: In Phase III, they have cybernetics installed to treat and fix some of the damage done to them by the Nameless. For example, Ceret has a partially synthesized voice while Terec has half of their face covered in cybernetics.
  • Divergent Character Evolution: Because of what the Nameless did to them, both of them have become distinct in both appearance and personality in Phase III.
  • Electronic Eyes: Ceret got their eyes replaced after having them petrified by the Leveler.
  • Finishing Each Other's Sentences: Even when they're not in the same room! As bond-twins, their thoughts are connected through their link in the Force. They can no longer do so after their encounter with the Nameless and the injuries, both physical and mental, that they sustained.
  • Human Alien: Kotabi strongly resemble white-skinned humans with sunken in eyes.
  • Laser Blade: Both wield green-bladed standard lightsabers.
  • Meat Puppet: During the mission to Sedri Minor, Ceret is captured by the Drengir and controlled. Due to their twin bond, Terec also falls under the creature's control, but both are eventually freed by Keeve and Avar.
  • Mind Rape: When trying to perform a Jedi Mind Trick on a captive Lourna Dee in Phase III, Ceret pushes too far when she resists too many times. This earns them criticism from both Keeve and Terec.
  • Non-Human Non-Binary: They are both nonbinary and are Kotabi rather than human. Downplayed since Kotabi are near human with few visible differences.
  • Sdrawkcab Name: Their names are each other's backwards.
  • Taken for Granite: While infiltrating the Nihil with Keeve, Lourna Dee exposes Terec to the Leveler, which not only causes both of the twins to slowly petrify, it breaks the bond between them and their minds enough to shatter Ceret's faith in the Force. Both of them then go into a hibernative trance slow the petrification and avoid crumbling to dust. They come out of hibernation thanks to being compelled to "hear the song of the Force" and awaken just in time to escape with Keeve from the falling Starlight Beacon. By the time of Phase III, they've replaced their petrified parts with cybernetics.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: When Keeve is overwhelmed by a Nameless on Ballum, Terec responds by blasting the Nameless to bits with their Vector's laser cannons. When Terec comes to check on the creature's corpse, there are a lot of holes in it. Considering the threat the Nameless pose to Jedi with just their presence alone and how hard they are to kill with conventional weapons, such excessive force was justified.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Both of them have a shorter fuse after their mind bond is disrupted, but Ceret in particular becomes more aggressive and ruthless. They use the Force to try and rip information from Lourna Dee's mind via torture and later use the Force to fling away a helpless animal from Terec's shoulder after calling it a distraction. Terec is extremely disturbed by their twin's actions and chastises them for not acting like a Jedi.
  • Twin Telepathy: They are bond-twins, essentially a gestalt consciousness with two bodies. It's currently unclear if this is a hitherto unseen trait of the Force, or if it's part of their species. This allows them to experience each other's senses even when apart. Unfortunately, this also means if one is hit by a Force-based affliction (whether it be Drengir poison or exposure to one of the Nameless), the other will feel its effects too. This bond is broken by the Nameless's mental assault, and after they recover their lack of a bond causes them to bicker. Their bond is repaired when they are psychically attacked by the Child of the Storm, H'Tar, and Tey Sirrek coaches them through the hallucinations.

    Lily Tora-Asi

Jedi Knight Lily Tora-Asi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a0249d01_c73c_4e3d_879d_57edd574d4ff.jpeg

Species: Human

Appearances: The Edge of Balance

A Jedi Knight stationed at the Jedi outpost on Banchii, helping refugees resettle on the planet after the Great Hyperspace Disaster.

  • Angst: For a Jedi, Lily is extremely pensive, questioning, and worried, which leads to her closing herself off from others. She places burdens, such as protecting civilians, solely upon herself so that others might be spared them, a trait her former master Arkoff tries to encourage her out of by suggesting she switch her perspective to see how others might ease and share her burdens to deal with them more effectively. Lily tends to brush off people who express concern about this attitude, including her padawan.
Keerin: Lately, it seems that you always have the same expression, full of concern.
Lily: ...I was born with this face.
Keerin: No, it's different. Master Arkoff once warned me that's the expression you have when you think too deeply.
  • The Apprentice: She was trained by Master Arkoff, who leads the outpost on Banchii, and often still turns to him for advice on being a young Knight with an apprentice of her own.
  • Dual Wielding: She wields two green-bladed lightsabers.
  • Fatal Flaw: Lily has difficulty adapting to changing environments and situations, whether it be taking on apprentices or when the galaxy is threatened by the Nihil and Drengir. With advice from Sav Malagán in Volume 2, she tries to learn to be more flexible, especially once she gets a wake-up call from Keerin's death.
  • Godzilla Threshold: When she realizes that the Jedi Temple on Banchii is outnumbered by the Nihil, she decides that the only course of action is to evacuate and destroy the Temple to prevent the Nihil from getting any tactical intel from it.
  • I Choose to Stay: When the Council issued the recall order back to Coruscant following the destruction of Starlight, Lily stayed on Banchii with Sav and Arkoff to continue helping people resist the Nihil and became trapped in the Occlusion Zone.
  • It's All My Fault: Her initial reaction to Keerin's death, blaming herself for not listening to him and not being there to help him.
  • The Mentor: She is training her Padawan Keerin Fionn, while also mentoring the two younglings at the Banchii Temple, Nima and Viv'Nia.
  • Seers: She gets brief glimpses of events that will happen in the future, sometimes while dreaming, such as the Drengir attack on the village and temple. These visions unsettle her, as there is typically not enough information or context for her to prepare for what they warn her of.
  • You Are in Command Now: When Arkoff leaves Banchii to assist Stellan Gios in anti-Nihil operations, Lily is left in charge of the Temple. The additional responsibility places further stress upon her and she becomes even more rigid and questioning than normal.

    Te'Ami

Jedi Knight Te'Ami

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/teami_sw.png

Species: Duros

"Let us become spears."

A Jedi Knight assigned to help save the Hetzal system from the Great Disaster. Te'Ami continues to aid in the investigation of the Great Disaster alongside Mikkel.

  • Ace Pilot: Most Jedi would qualify for this trope, but Te'Ami's piloting skills are notable even amongst the Order.
  • Depending on the Writer: Light of the Jedi says that she has green skin, while the adaptation The Great Jedi Rescue describes and depicts her with blue skin.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: During a mission to recover the Legacy Run's flightbox recorder and determine what caused the Great Disaster the Nihil arrive and attempt to destroy it. Te'Ami and the rest of her team shoot down most of the missiles, and she chooses to destroy the last one instead of escaping the missile fired at her to ensure the truth is discovered.
  • Laser Blade: A blue-bladed lightsaber.
  • Mauve Shirt: One of several viewpoint characters who perishes in Light of the Jedi after having a clear personality and friendships established.
  • True Beauty Is on the Inside: Muses on how her lightsaber hilt is old and close to falling apart, but she opts to keep it that way because she sees it as a good metaphor for how the Force works — "No matter what a person was on the outside — inside, everyone was made of light."
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: She dies during Light of the Jedi.

    Mikkel Sutmani

Jedi Knight Mikkel Sutmani

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a34b9bca_0cd2_411d_b29e_10759cdc3a63.jpeg

Species: Ithorian

A Jedi Knight assigned to help save the Hetzal system from the Great Disaster. Alongside Te'Ami he continued to investigate the Great Disaster and deal with subsequent Emergences.

  • Aerith and Bob: With his partner, Te'ami. Mikkel may not be common in English, but it is remarkably unremarkable in Scandinavia, whereas Te'ami is not.
  • Character Death: He is killed during the Nihil attack on Valo when his fighter is forced down.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a blue-bladed crossguard lightsaber.
  • Mauve Shirt: He is a supporting character in the first two novels. And ends up being one of the casualties of the Battle of Valo.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: During the Battle of Valo, Mikkel saves a Nihil from falling by catching him on his wing. The Nihil responds by attacking Mikkel's fighter, causing it to crash and kill both Mikkel and the Nihil.

    Dez Rydan

Jedi Knight Dez Rydan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dez_rydan_sw.png

Species: Human

Appearances: Into the Dark

Jora Malli's first Padawan. He accompanied his master's second Padawan, Reath Silas, on a flight from Coruscant to the Starlight Beacon, only for their journey to be disrupted by the Great Disaster.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Gets controlled by the Drengir to fight Reath. Though Reath breaks him free from their mind control, it weakens his connection to the Force and he takes the Barash vow to reconnect to it.
  • Cool Kid-and-Loser Friendship: Though he and Reath aren't too close due to Dez being assigned to missions far from Coruscant, their relationship is this, with the bookish Reath being envied by other students for being the padawan of an esteemed council member and the successor to a charismatic knight.
  • De-power: Being controlled by the Drengir weakened Dez's connection to the Force, so he takes the Barash Vow and leaves to reconnect with it at the end of Into the Dark.
  • Put on a Bus: Goes into isolation after taking the Barash Vow.

    Ady Sun'Zee

Jedi Knight Ady Sun'Zee

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/18a3edd0_5764_4cfc_a2cb_0b8af91bf50c.jpeg

Species: Mirialan

Portrayed by: Ellie Araiza

A padawan of Jedi Master Sylwin and the master of Nooa during the age of the High Republic.

    Nooranbakarakana

Jedi Knight Nooranbakarakana

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nooran_sw.png

Species: Frozian

A Jedi who attended the Valo Fair. In the aftermath of the Nihil's raid on the fair, she joined the Unified Republic Task Force dedicated to ending the raider's threat.

  • Ace Pilot: She seems to be a very skilled pilot, and is left in charge of flying the Ataraxia on several key missions. During the raid on the Nihil's fortress in No-Space, Nooran outflies all the Nihil ships and disables or destroys them despite being the only Jedi ship present and heavily outnumbered. She later manages to dock the Ataraxia with Starlight Beacon even as it is falling swiftly into the gravitational pull of Eiram.
Avar: Can you bring us alongside, Nooran? Extend a docking tube?
    Nooran: It'll be tricky.
Avar: Yes, but can you do it?
    Nooran: Naturally.
  • Canon Immigrant: Nooranbakarakana is the first known Frozian in canon. In Legends, the Frozians were first introduced in The Corellian Trilogy novels and first depicted in the Star Wars The Roleplaying Game guides.
  • Mauve Shirt: She's a supporting character in The High Republic (2021) who is given just enough character and page time before she is killed by the Nameless.
  • Overly Long Name: Yeah, her name is a handful. Sometimes, she is called "Nooran" for short.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Due to not-so-clear-cut sexual dimorphism in Frozians, her gender was unknown to the audience until her death.
  • Taken for Granite: While Sskeer was able to save Keeve and Avar from being calcified by the Nameless on Starlight Beacon, Nooranbakarakana wasn't so fortunate.

    Santar

Jedi Knight Santar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/santar_sw.png

Species: Human

A Jedi Knight who participated in the assault on Mulita during the Drengir crisis. After the fall of Starlight Beacon, he is assigned to Jedi Master Keeve Trennis's task force aboard the Republic Longbeam, Gios.

  • Back for the Dead: He previously appeared in one issue of the Phase I comic as an unnamed Jedi. He returns in the Phase III comic run, only to be killed off by the end of the first issue.
  • Fantastic Racism: Derogatorily refers to the Hutts as "slugs" while discussing how to send them "slithering" back to Nal Hutta. This draws a rebuke from Keeve.
  • Jerkass: Makes tasteless remarks about Ceret and Terec's broken bond under his breath, uses speciesist terms, and needlessly antagonizes Keeve about battle strategy.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard green-bladed lightsaber.
  • Mauve Shirt: He's given just enough characterization before getting unceremoniously killed by the Nameless.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Even though he and Keeve have been told to retreat when they learn that the Nihil have brought a Nameless with them to Ballum, Santar tries to charge at the beast to avenge his fallen comrades. He doesn't even land a hit on the creature before he's consumed with fear and turned to stone.
  • Reverse Grip: In his first appearance he is seen wielding his lightsaber this way while fighting the Drengir.
  • Too Dumb to Live: It takes a special kind of suicidal for a Jedi to charge at a Nameless after their reputation as Jedi-killers is already well-known at that point.

    Goonral Monshi

Jedi Knight Goonral Monshi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/goonralmonshi_thr2021_15.png

Species: Latero

"Why? Because we are Jedi. We serve life, never death."

A Jedi Knight assigned to Starlight Beacon who assists in the campaigns against both the Drengir and Nihil under Avar Kriss.

  • The Engineer: It was his skills with engineering that allowed a Nihil Path drive to be added to the Ataraxia and take it to assault the Nihil's headquarters in No-Space.
  • Eye Scream: Sometime after Starlight's destruction, he encountered a now-feral Sskeer and lost his right eye to him among suffering other injuries.
  • Killed Offscreen: His likely fate during the Fall of the Starlight Beacon, last being heard screaming over the comlink as his position was overrun by Nihil. In Shadows of Starlight, he is among the Jedi listed as missing following the Storm Wall's erection. The Phase III comic reveals that he survived thanks to OrbaLin sneaking out of the Ataraxia.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard blue-bladed lightsaber.
  • Mauve Shirt: He plays a key supporting role in the last half of the Phase I comic series before seemingly being killed in the last issue. Turns out he's still alive.
  • Save the Villain: During the raid on the Nihil's base in No-Space, Lourna Dee orders her own ships to fire on the base to kill the attacking Jedi. Monshi prevents several Nihil from being sucked out into space by a hole punched through the hull in the attack, which severely confuses them. Monshi simply tells them that the Jedi serve all life, not death, before taking them prisoner.
  • Trapped Behind Enemy Lines: While OrbaLin did get them safely off the Ataraxia and Starlight Beacon, he and Monshi ended up trapped within the Occlusion Zone and were forced to hide from the Nihil and the Nameless.

    Lyssa Votz

Jedi Lyssa Votz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lyssa_votz_sw.png

Species: Human

A young scholarly Knight who served as the archivist of the Jedi Temple on Dalna.

  • Cute Bookworm: As an archivist, she is far more interested in recording new information and learning as much as she can than fighting. Lyssa carries a datapad in her hand more often than her lightsaber, and in fact routinely forgets to bring her blade with her when leaving the Temple.
  • Laser Blade: She wields a standard lightsaber with a blade that is so blue it almost looks white.
  • Reluctant Warrior: She isn't a very talented duelist and genuinely prefers to not get into any fights at all, even against dangerous wildlife. It is implied that her forgetting her lightsaber at times isn't accidental and is her way of avoiding having to fight.
  • Trapped Behind Enemy Lines: When the Stormwall is expanded, Lyssa and Yacek become trapped behind it.

    Yacek Sparkburn

Jedi Yacek Sparkburn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yacek_sparkburn_sw.png

Species: Human

"I was never much for the more adventurous parts of Jedi life. I'm a perfectly adequate duelist, but I really like talking to new people."

A young Knight stationed at the Jedi Temple on Dalna.

  • Ambiguously Related: He was born on one of the San Tekka family compounds, but states that he is unaware of his exact relationship to that clan. Notably, there are relatives of the San Tekka clan with the family name of Sparkburn, notably Jordanna Sparkburn.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard lightsaber with a blade described as "brilliant green" in color.
  • Reluctant Warrior: Like Lyssa, Yacek isn't fond of fighting, but unlike her he acknowledges it as a sometimes necessary and needed part of being a Jedi.
  • Team Chef: He handles cooking duties at the Dalna Temple, and Vernestra favorably compares his cooking to Porter Engle's own culinary talents.
  • Trapped Behind Enemy Lines: When the Stormwall is expanded, Yacek and Lyssa become trapped behind it.

    Regald Coll

Jedi Knight Regald Coll

Species: Human

Appearances: The High Republic (2021) | The Fallen Star

"Because I think I'm hilarious, and really, nobody's that funny."

A good-humored Jedi Knight who participated in the campaign against the Nihil.

  • Friend to All Children: Before going to the Outer Rim, he worked in the creche of the Jedi Temple, helping to care for young initiates there. Coll misses doing that work and decides that he will return there once the situation on the Starlight Beacon is settled as he feels he has done his service on the frontier.
  • Mauve Shirt: He is introduced at the start of The Fallen Star and has his personality quickly established. He then ends up being the first casualty of the Jedi aboard the Starlight Beacon.
  • Taken for Granite: He is assaulted by one of the Nameless and calcified while searching Starlight for the cause of the disturbances in the Force the Jedi felt aboard.

    Dagan Gera

Dagan Gera

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dagan_gera_sw.png
"That wretched Order will rue the day they betrayed me and forsook Tanalorr!"

Species: Arkanian offshoot

Portrayed By: Cody Fern
Appearances: Jedi: Survivor

"The Order is gone. I was betrayed by the one I trusted most. I will not be imprisoned again."

A Jedi Knight who discovered Tanalorr and petitioned the Jedi Council to establish a temple on the planet. However, he was later grievously injured and presumed dead by the Order. In actuality surviving his injuries, Dagan was placed in a bacta tank that kept him in suspended animation for over two hundred years. Ten years after the Great Jedi Purge, Dagan is found by Purge survivor Cal Kestis and revived. Angered that the Jedi Order he served no longer exists, Dagan pursues his own agenda.

  • Aerith and Bob: His name wouldn't be out of place in the real world as a number of Jewish people have his first name as both a given name and surname and a number of Jewish families have his surname.
  • Alas, Poor Yorick: Briefly strikes this pose with a stormtrooper helmet before giving Cal a "The Reason You Suck" Speech.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Dagan is defined by his goal to reach Tanalorr, hoping to use the planet as a safe spot to nurture and train future Jedi generations without harm from external forces. This was the original plan before his descent into madness; now he intends to train as many people as he can, starting with the Bedlam Raiders, in the ways of the Force on Tanalorr so that he could launch an attack on the Galactic Empire years later and take over as the galaxy's new ruler.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Dagan is missing his right arm and fights with his left until his last battle where he creates a replica of his right using Koboh Matter. It's also revealed that Santari slashed off Dagan's right arm when their last conversation became too confrontational.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Extremely confident in his own martial prowess, to the point where Rayvis' assertion that Cal Kestis might be his equal leads to Dagan semi-seriously threatening to cut out his tongue.
  • Artificial Limbs: He uses Koboh Matter to construct a new right arm in his final fight with Cal and Bode to replace the arm Santari sliced off during their last meeting.
  • Ax-Crazy: It's clear in his first appearance that Dagan has a few screws loose when his lamentations about his past turns into a bitter rant about how he felt betrayed. And he only gets worse from there with his insanity becoming more visible until his final battle against Cal and Bode where he's devolved into a psychotic lunatic whose too obsessed with Tanalorr to really think about anything else.
  • Bifurcated Weapon: Similarly to Cal, he uses a lightsaber with two halves that can be separated. This allows him to both Dual Wield the lightsabers and use them as a Double Weapon.
  • Big Bad: Played With; Dagan is the most active and powerful antagonist Cal fights against in Jedi: Survivor, his alliance and control of the Bedlam Raiders have a big influence on their actions and his ambitions for Tanalorr drive the events of the plot. Later on, Dagan is killed by Cal and Bode at the second act's climax, shortly followed by Bode and Lank Denvik taking over as Cal's main adversaries for the remainder of the game, but had Dagan not been slain, neither Bode nor Denvik's plans would have advanced and they, alongside Cal, were influenced by Dagan's ambitions in one way or another, and he remains the most dangerous foe fought in the game.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: He has the makings of being a Big Bad, but the story doesn't end after he dies, with Bode and Lank Denvik taking over as the main villains Cal has to deal with. That said, Dagan did make it clear that he intended to oppose the Galactic Empire and his presence would have been a big thorn for the Rebels and Empire had he not been put down, averting him from being a Big Bad Wannabe. Furthermore, the later villainous revelation of Bode comes as a means to use the systems Dagan Gera had in place, so he could technically still be considered the main villain postmortem.
  • Boss Banter: During his fights against Cal, Dagan often states how he's unimpressed and annoyed by his adversary's attacks and defense, with such phrases like "weak!", "pathetic", and "really?", which accentuates Dagan's arrogant nature. He'll also have small monologues about how Tanalorr is his to emphasize his ambition and obsession.
  • Bright Is Not Good: He still wears the golden robes worn by the Jedi of the High Republic, but joins forces with the Bedlam Raiders to pursue a villainous agenda.
  • Broken Ace: Once a star pupil of the Jedi Order, an intense search for Tanalorr that grew into an obsession, and a growing rift between him and the rest of the Order — particularly his close friend Santari — all blended together to drive him off the deep end. In the present, he's still an incredibly skilled and powerful Force wielder, and his worsening madness doesn't hinder his combat effectiveness at all.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Tanalorr is mine!" is his most repeated phrase in Jedi Survivor and it perfectly sums up his character as someone who has allowed his obsession to take control of his life.
  • Climax Boss: Jedi: Survivor builds him up as the Big Bad, and while his final battle proves to be a climactic spectacle and an intense battle, his death only marks the end of the game's second act. What prevents him from being a Big Bad Wannabe is that Dagan was still an incredibly dangerous foe to Cal and, had he lived, he would have caused further problems for the heroes as well as become a newer and potentially more troublesome issue for the Galactic Empire, given his intention to use Tanalorr as a training ground for Force-Sensitive individuals and spark a war against the Empire.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist:
    • Dagan is one to Taron Malicos, the previous game's Fallen Jedi that Cal fights against. Both of them were former devotees to the Jedi Order before out-of-control circumstances caused them to gradually embrace the Dark Side whilst also taking a toll on their sanity and the two of them have a working relationship with an antagonistic faction, namely the Bedlam Raiders and the Dathomirians. However, they have more differences; Malicos's partnership with the Dathomirians was tense at best, was a minor villain in Jedi: Fallen Order, was openly polite and wanted to mentor Cal at first with his insanity being more subtle, is a grizzled old man, and isn't really ambitious. Dagan's relationship with the Bedlam Raiders is more cooperative, is the most active antagonist in Jedi: Survivor, is almost immediately dismissive and hostile to Cal on their first encounter, his insanity is more apparent and grows worse over time, is a handsome young man, and his character is defined by his ambition to claim Tanalorr and overthrow the Galactic Empire. A final similarity is that they are both canonically the most powerful opponents Cal fights in the games they appear in as both were shown to be much stronger than him and Cal only wins with the assistance of an ally.
    • He's also one to Trilla Suduri, the Second Sister. Both were Jedi who turned to the Dark Side due to the Order failing to help them at a time they needed it most, felt that they were betrayed by their mentors, and are Cal's main adversaries for most of the games they appear in. However, Trilla serves the Galactic Empire under the Inquisitorious, is calm and collected with her rage being reserved and tempered, and is mainly a glorified henchwoman with not much in the way of a greater goal while Dagan plans to oppose the Empire, is openly rash, embittered, and volatile, and is defined by his crazed ambition to find Tanalorr. Additionally, their fights against Cal parallel on their physical state; Trilla starts off much stronger than Cal, but the latter grows strong enough over the course of Fallen Order before he properly matches against the former in their last two rounds, while Dagan starts off weaker than Cal due to just being released from a bacta tank while their last fight sees Dagan being much stronger than his foe and almost killing him, even with the assistance of Bode. Finally, while Trilla dies in resignation asking to be avenged, Dagan remains Defiant to the End about his goal before being cut down.
  • Cool Sword: His lightsaber has an ornate design and he later upgrades it to a split saber, making it look even cooler.
  • Curb-Stomp Cushion: Dagan ends up on both ends of the trope depending on which of his fights against Cal Kestis are taken to account.
    • In their first fight, Dagan had just been released from his bacta tank by the time he rants about how the Order betrayed him, bleeding out his kyber crystal and initiating a battle against Cal. It's easily shown that Dagan's agility and strength, while elegant and refined, are also rusty and cumbersome to a degree and this is why Cal has the upper edge. Regardless, Dagan's superior experience allows him to survive long enough for Rayvis and the Bedlam Raiders to arrive in time to escort him to safety.
    • While the second fight sees the two of them being equal in strength no thanks to Dagan's missing arm, the third fight has Dagan turning the tables and overwhelming Cal on a number of occasions, even when the latter has Bode for assistance. Using Koboh Matter to create a duplicate of his right arm and recovered to his full strength, Dagan is the most powerful enemy Cal fights in a proper duel and would have won had it not been for a sudden surprise attack from Bode that gave Cal the killing blow.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: At some point in the past, Dagan defeated Rayvis in a one-on-one duel, but the battle and the fact that he was defeated in fair combat resulted in Rayvis pledging loyalty to Dagan and establishing a good friendship with him, all in accordance to Rayvis's code of honor.
  • Defiant to the End: Even after being told he is a failure by an apparition of Santari, flying into a blind rage, and getting impaled by Cal, Dagan still musters enough strength to not just yank Cal's lightsaber and Force-choke him, but to defiantly cry out how "Tanalor! Is! Mine!". If Bode hadn't shot him In the Back before finishing his sentence, Dagan would have continued on with his goal without fail after killing Cal and Bode, showing just how determined and crazed he is about claiming Tanalorr and not even letting the chances of death deter that.
  • Despair Event Horizon: When he is first met, his spiraling thoughts about seemingly being abandoned by the Jedi Council are so bad that he bleeds his Kyber Crystal on instinct, overcome by negative emotion and beginning his true descent into madness.
  • Detrimental Determination: His obsession with reaching and settling Tanalorr has reached the point where he can't really seem to comprehend any other goal in life.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: While he is the source of most of the game's conflicts, Cal kills him at the end of the second act, leading to Bode to taking his place as the game's final antagonist.
  • Double Weapon: After his first fight against Cal, Dagan took the time to modify his lightsaber to be equipped with a second emitter at the bottom to allow him to ignite a second blade. This version becomes his default stance from his second fight onward.
  • Dual Wielding: He can separate his lightsaber into two halves, but uses one half as a telekinetic boomerang for long-range attacks to compensate for his missing right arm. In his third fight with Cal, he can now use both halves in their traditional fashion thanks to his replicated right arm via Koboh matter.
  • Due to the Dead: On the receiving end and a downplayed example. After he is killed by the combined efforts of Cal and Bode, the former takes the time to pick up Dagan's lightsaber and place it on his chest. Whether Cal did this out of respect, pity, or by Jedi custom is left unclear, however.
  • Duel Boss: Dagan and Cal's fights are usually one-on-one, further emphasized on how the former mirrors the latter's various lightsaber stances. The third and final fight zig-zags this as the fight begins with Cal fighting alongside Bode, only for Dagan to use the Force to incapacitate the latter once Dagan's health is depleted by half and continues fighting Cal solo.
  • Entitled Bastard: His discovery of Tanalorr and his growing arrogance eventually caused Dagan to think himself as having the right to use Tanalorr however he wanted, and this feeling was so strong that not only did he cut down anybody who stood in his way after he was met with some resistance, but once he reawakens in the present, finding Tanalorr again becomes his primary goal.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: How Dagan felt when the Jedi Order didn't come to Tanalorr when the Nihil invaded the planet. Dagan took the event as the point where the Jedi betrayed him and reacted by killing them out of rage.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He genuinely values and cares about Rayvis as a friend. Also even after his turn to the dark side, he clearly still has some affection for Santari, as he's very frustrated and hurt that Santari didn't join him when he turned to the Dark Side.
  • Evil Virtues: Dagan possesses Camaraderie, Valor, and Loyalty to represent his villainous virtues, and are best shown by his genuine friendship with Rayvis. His Ambition and Determination are subversions as both of them play a role in his insanity and thus make these qualities more of a damaging influence in the long run.
  • Evil vs. Evil: In addition to battling against Cal, Dagan also intends to take his fight to the Galactic Empire, intending to raise an army strong enough to overthrow the Empire and instil his own reign in the galaxy.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Dagan was once a member of the Jedi Order, striving to live up to their principles and be a force for good despite his arrogance and hubris. Unfortunately, his obsession with Tanalorr and feeling betrayed by the order when he needed their help at a critical time resulted in him having a Sanity Slippage and falling to the Dark Side. By the end, Dagan's motivations, actions, and nature are no different from a Sith Lord's.
  • Fallen Hero: Well, he was a Jedi Knight after all. Until he gave into his ambition and obsession, delving into the Dark Side, and being willing to work alongside a band of vicious pirates to further his goals.
  • Fatal Flaw: Pride. He was already said to be rather lacking in humility even before his split from the order, then when the council dared abandon his discovery because of how risky the endeavor was, he completely lost it and cut down anyone who stood between him and his legacy. When he awakens, his sense of entitlement to Tanalorr once again puts him at odds with the surviving members of the Jedi Order.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: Dagan is a Jedi from the Order's days during High Republic era who wakes up at a time centuries ahead where the Order is nonexistent and the Galaxy is dominated by the Galactic Empire. Seemingly the only individual he knows that has survived up to that point is Rayvis, a member of the Gen'Dai, who are known to have very long lifespans, and a close friend of Dagan's, whose alliance was formed after he had defeated Rayvis in a fair fight pre-incapacitation.
  • Foil:
    • Dagan is a contrast to Rayvis in many ways. Both are proud warriors who are eager to test their might against their enemies, are exceptionally skilled and powerful combatants, and desire loyalty and respect as their main virtue, which is why they're able to get along well after Dagan defeated Rayvis in fair combat. However, there is more to their differences than just their appearances; Dagan was very sure of his skill and prowess to the point of martial arrogance, which proves to be his Fatal Flaw as Cal would exploit his mental fragility to manage to defeat him and even then Dagan refused to yield defeat whereas Rayvis desires honor and respect in a fight above all else, coming to respect Cal as just as much a Worthy Opponent as Dagan was and accepting his death gracefully once Cal bests him in a one-on-one match.
    • Surprisingly, Bode Akuna turns out to be another one, which becomes more apparent during a second playthrough. Both Dagan and Bode were Jedi who fell to the Dark Side due to circumstances and events that threatened their lives, achievements, and desires, and both serve as Cal Kestis's greatest enemies in Jedi: Survivor, but where Dagan was Cal's most powerful enemy, Bode is his most personal. Their personal desires warp them into selfish evil territory and thus are willing to do whatever it takes to complete their goals, the safety and well-being of others be damned, with Dagan's corruption due to his grand ambition and pride contributing to his insanity whereas Bode's fall was due to his fatherly love for his daughter, Kata, becoming twisted into unintended abuse as his paranoia and selfishness grew worse. Both desired Tanalorr for differing reasons; Dagan wanted to secretly create a Force-Sensitive army and become a new enemy to the Galactic Empire while Bode just wanted to keep himself and Kata safe from a planet that seemingly no one would be able to find.
  • Freudian Excuse: Dagan went from being a celebrated Jedi Knight to a crazed heretic as he was left alone to fend off the Nihil's invasion of Tanalorr and felt betrayed that the Jedi Order did not choose to aid him at a time when he needed their help most.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: While Dagan's anguish is understandable, his reaction isn't, as he ends up killing several knights for simply opposing his plan to go back to Tanalorr. Cal is freaked out by this and when Dagan outright stated that he did because he felt compelled to do so, Cal doesn't buy it, stating that at the end of the day, the Order was like a family to him.
  • Goal in Life: Once he discovers Tanalorr and thinks it could be a haven for the Jedi to live and train in, Dagan's motives and personality change for the worse, especially once the Nihil invade the planet and the Jedi abandon Tanalorr despite how many times Dagan pleaded to have it protected. Since then, Dagan's life is solely dedicated to Tanalorr to the point where he starts killing any Jedi who oppose him, forcing Santari to disarm and incapacitate him in a bacta tank, and after being freed centuries later, he immediately goes back to wanting to reclaim Tanalorr.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Dagan openly admits that he's not one for patience. True to form, he's quite easy to set off, especially if one even questions him about his motives, and his second fight against Cal mainly happened because he prodded on Dagan's intentions and past one too many times
  • Handicapped Badass: Lost an arm. Doesn't slow him down, as he makes up for it by using telekinesis so effectively he can essentially use a second invisible arm (and that is when he isn't making an artificial replacement out of Koboh matter).
  • He's Back!: He has this kind of reaction after being released from his bacta tank and igniting his lightsaber again for the first time in centuries. He even says this almost word-by-word with a sense of pride.
    Dagan: Yes! I am back.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: While Dagan makes it clear he opposes the Galactic Empire and, by extension, Darth Sidious, the lengths he would go to for his goals, namely by turning Tanalorr into a training ground for soldiers to be trained under the Force discreetly and strike the Empire years later out of nowhere also show that his conclusions just see him become another oppressive emperor, as Bode points out.
  • The Horseshoe Effect: He still considers himself a Jedi, but takes his methods so far and to such an extreme and obsessive extent that his motives, goals, and general attitude are functionally identical to the worst breed of Sith Lord, a fact that Bode happily points out.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Dagan often angsts about how the Jedi Order betrayed him by not coming to Tanalorr when the Nihil invaded the planet. This is coming from a man who, soon after, would go against the order and start killing off Jedi Knights for standing against him and his ambitions, effectively betraying his allegiance and embracing the Dark Side. When he tries to rationalize his actions, Cal immediately calls him out on his crap.
    • In their final confrontation, Dagan points out how Cal is trapped by the trauma and grief of his past after being told of the same thing during their previous fight. Even so, Cal has proven that he makes an effort to move on from his past while Dagan has effectively dedicated his life to fulfilling his past goal of reaching Tanalorr and doesn't make any effort from moving on from it.
    • Before their last battle, he spitefully calls Cal a failure. At the end of said fight, Cal uses a Force hallucination to conjure the guise of Santari Khri telling Dagan that he is "no longer a Jedi" (i.e. a failure). Dagan reacts with extreme anger and violence, not being able to handle being called out for his actions.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: Dagan's eyes are a bright shade of blue, emphasizing his pale complexion and his nature as a driven and rage-fuelled villain.
  • In the Back: On the receiving end. On the cusp of defeat and his sanity lost, Dagan tries to choke Cal to death using the Force only for a seemingly incapacitated Bode to shoot Dagan from behind unnoticed. While the shot doesn't kill him, this frees Cal and gives him enough time to take the opportunity to end Dagan once and for all.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: He is modeled after his voice actor, Cody Fern, just with an alien complexion and hair color.
  • Insane Equals Violent: He only reaches the point of being violent after the Council decides to abandon Tanalorr, killing his fellow Jedi when they destroy the compasses needed to get there. By the present day when he's awoken, his mind is crumbling and he lashes out at the world with the same callousness he believes he received.
  • It's All About Me: As far as Dagan is concerned, Tanalorr is his and only his, and anyone who tries to get in his way be damned. Most of his conversations are about longing for the planet and how he feels betrayed by the Jedi, not much else. The only part about Dagan that's not shown to be selfish is his genuine friendship with Rayvis, and even then, he's not above snarking with a violent thought when Rayvis mentions Cal might be a match for him.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Cal cuts him down as he shouts "Tanalorr! Is! Mine!" with him only getting the first two words out.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Even with Survivor being a thematically darker game than its predecessor, Dagan's overall character, nature, and motives prove to be much more grim and foreboding than the previous game's Inquisitors. He's also a darker character than Rayvis and the Bedlam Raiders; while they're more obvious and simple antagonists and Raybis possesses a code of honor, Dagan is defined by his ambition and the insanity that comes with the obsession with said ambition and giving himself to the Dark Side.
  • Knight Templar: His single-minded obsession to accomplish his goals by whatever means necessary has caused him to fall to the Dark Side.
  • Lack of Empathy: Dagan is openly and coldly dismissive of Bode's desire to provide a safe place for his daughter, Kata. In fact, Dagan outright calls his and Cal's motives "small dreams" they cling to before they fight.
  • Laser Blade: Wielded a yellow single-bladed lightsaber during his time as a Jedi Knight of the High Republic. Upon awakening in the Imperial Era, Dagan's overflowing negative emotions result in him bleeding his kyber crystal red, and he later converts his lightsaber into a split-saber much like that of Cal Kestis. After Dagan's death, Bode secretly takes half of his split-saber and later uses it to duel Cal upon betraying the Hidden Path.
  • Let the Past Burn: When Cal questions him about his past and how there's nothing he could do to change it, Dagan appears to concede and agree with Cal's statement about cutting off the past... before unsheathing his lightsaber and attacking Cal and Zee. Ironically, despite his statement, Dagan never grows out of his desire for Tanalorr, effectively making him mentally stuck in the past with no intent of letting go.
  • Lightning Bruiser: When Dagan manages to recreate his right arm during his fight against Cal and Bode, his strength and abilities increase dramatically and he uses his quick agility to take full advantage of them, making him an unbelievably powerful and fast foe that Cal could barely keep up with.
  • Master Swordsman: Is a highly proficient swordsman and was noted to be an exceptionally powerful and skilled lightsaber user even for a Jedi Knight.
  • Mind over Matter: Customary for any Force user, Dagan is very much capable of using telekinesis, which he uses liberally during battle, such as lifting objects, slashing Sword Beams, generating a shock wave, and the ability to invisibly choke someone to death.
  • Mirror Character: To Anakin Skywalker. Both were renowned Jedi Knights with successful careers, good reputations, unparalleled fighters with lots of innate potential, and a strong bond with their mentors, that is until uncontrollable circumstances caused them to become desperate in their attempts to fulfill their goals and ultimately fall to the Dark Side of the Force, not helped that they both excuse their actions by believing they were betrayed by the Order they dedicated their life to. Their main differences come from their motives and the core reason for their corruption; Anakin was motivated by his love for Padmé and his strong sense of compassion and love was something Palpatine took advantage of to coerce Anakin to make desperate and questionable actions to save his wife, which would lead him to become a Sith while Dagan's greatest achievement for discovering Tanalorr was undermined by the Jedi Order not helping him defend the difficult to reach world at a time he needed it most when the Nihil attacked the planet and took it as a revelation that the Jedi betrayed him, a thought that angered him so much he actively went against the ways of the Jedi as an act of aggressive protest.
  • Mirror Boss: His boss fights have him mimicking a few of Cal's various lightsaber stances, evolving and refining his combat abilities throughout each encounter after losing his dominant arm and recuperating for an extended period in the Bacta tank. He initially uses the single-bladed stance after waking up and recovering his old lightsaber in the first fight, adds on a second emitter to the hilt to use the dual-blade by the second — which is additionally capable of splitting into two sabers for telekinetic ranged attacks, presumably inspired by Cal's own dual-saber stance used against him before — and by the third battle becomes capable of forming a Force-generated replacement of his missing arm to more easily use the dual-saber stance to overwhelm Cal.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: This is how Dagan views turning on the Jedi Order when they didn't respond to the Nihil's attack on Tanalorr. This is downplayed in a few ways, namely that Dagan already had an arrogant streak and much of his actions, later on, were an act of disproportionately rageful entitlement while it was made clear that because Tanalorr was located in the depths of an unexplorable abyss, the Jedi would have had a very hard time traversing through said abyss without their shuttles getting destroyed, let alone getting to the planet.
  • Mood-Swinger: "Unstable" is a rather charitable way to describe him, and he seems to fly into rages very easily.
  • Motive Rant: His first and last conversation with Cal have him reflecting on the day he found Tanalorr, how the planet was attacked by the Nihil, the Order refused his aid, and how they and Santari betrayed him and expressing it in a spiteful, hateful, and almost sorrowful tone.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: When he reveals his plan to create and raise a Force-sensitive army on Tanalorr in the hopes of overthrowing the Empire via a surprise attack and "cleanse this galaxy with fire", Bode points out how this sounds like something Emperor Palpatine would have done.
Dagan: Within the Abyss the Empire cannot reach us. I will forge these raiders into an elite army led by disciples trained in the Force at my temple. Then when the time is right I will strike out and cleanse this galaxy with fire.
Bode: We've already got an Emperor. Give us the compass.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: He wants to fight and overthrow the Galactic Empire with the intent of becoming a better leader in their place. The problem is, Dagan's obsession for Tanalorr has regressed him into a petulant madman who thinks violence is the best solution to his problems. When Dagan reveals his plans, Bode points out that it's essentially Dagan becoming the new Emperor and that's something he's not accepting of.
  • Obvious Villain, Secret Villain: While Bode is a seemingly friendly ally until he reveals his true colors not long after Dagan's death, Dagan is openly antagonistic from the get-go and is the adversary Cal spends the majority of the game hunting down.
  • Older Than They Look: Dagan biologically seems to be in his mid-late 20s, but given he was put in animated suspension via a bacta tank for centuries, he's about two hundred years older than he looks.
  • One-Armed Warrior: As a result of Santari chopping his right arm off, he uses his left arm as his sword arm and is still a force to be reckoned with. More impressively, it's strongly implied that his dominant hand was his right. During later fights, he uses the Force as a substitute for his missing arm which allows him to skillfully wield his newly constructed split saber. It's then subverted in Cal's final duel against him where he uses Koboh matter to construct a prosthetic right arm to replace the one Santari dismembered.
  • Passion Is Evil: Dagan's defining character trait, alongside his combat prowess, is his passion for Tanalorr, and the resulting desperation and insanity that comes with clinging to this passion to an obsessive level.
  • People Jars: He is first seen in a bacta tank before being freed by Cal. It turns out that he was placed there in secrecy by his master Santari as in spite of bisecting his right arm, left him in critical condition, and was aware that he had gone against the principles of the Jedi Order, Santari couldn't bring herself to kill her apprentice, opting to save Dagan instead whilst keeping him locked away without anyone knowing he survived.
  • The Power of Hate: Dagan's bitter resentment of being "betrayed" and his subsequent rants are what bleed his kyber crystal into a red color scheme. From there on, he's guided by a mix of ambition, rage, entitlement, and anger and he's not above using the Dark Side of the Force, which are what fuel its power, especially rage and anger.
  • Pride: Outside of his desire to reach Tanalorr and his increasing insanity, Dagan's most notable trait is his prideful and self-confident nature. Unfortunately, this would end up becoming a Fatal Flaw for much of his characterization.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Dagan has a severe case of sudden mood alterations, a byproduct of his pursuit of Tanalorr twisting his beliefs and personality into the makings of a delusional madman. Due to feeling betrayed, he has poor emotional maturity and this proves to be his downfall during his final fight against Cal. He's also very confident about his abilities and generally has a high opinion of himself, which mixes terribly with his personality issues as any criticism or slight to him or his goals sets him off easily.
  • Psychotic Smirk: During their final battle, he sports a sinister grin to Cal during their first Blade Lock before revealing his recreated right arm and using the second half of his lightsaber to give himself a further push in his clash as a way to intimidate his enemy.
  • A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil: Dagan was a Jedi Apprentice of Santari Khri and was an exceptionally gifted, yet brash and arrogant warrior who proved himself a diligent and capable member of the order. That is until he grew fascinated by Tanalorr and increasingly became too obsessed with the planet to the point where he felt embittered that the Jedi were telling him to abandon it, "forcing" Dagan to rebel and slaughter his fellow knights in an insane attempt to claim Tanalorr for himself.
  • Red Is Violent: Initially wielding a yellow lightsaber during his days in the High Republic and briefly after awakening after his long slumber, Dagan remembering his past and allowing his emotions to influence his anger and rage bleeds his kyber crystal, causing his lightsaber to be emitted in red. It makes sense, given how rage is a negative emotion and red lightsabers are indicative of overwhelming negative thoughts and the color scheme symbolizes Dagan's descent to madness.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Dagan is centuries old, but you wouldn't know that at first glance. In reality, he's from a bygone time, namely the High Republic Era and he was placed in a bacta tank because his master couldn't bring herself to kill Dagan, even after he betrayed the Jedi Order and killed many of his fellow knights.
  • Recurring Boss: Dagan is fought thrice in Jedi: Survivor, with each battle representing his physical and mental state and how they reflect on the difficulty of the battles.
  • Sanity Slippage: His work on Tanalorr gradually festered into an obsession as a result. His degrading mind just gets worse and worse, with his superiors in the Jedi Order decision to leave Tantalorr, after how difficult the project was, causing him to lash out and kill several Jedi before Santari catches him off-guard when he attempts to take the final remaining compass. Needless to say, he is well and truly mad when awakened in the present by Cal, and spends the rest of the game just getting worse and worse, his mind a slurry of negative emotions, obsessive fixations, and frayed thought processes.
  • Self-Duplication: He can create copies of himself using the Force and Koboh Matter during his final battle against Cal and Bode.
  • Shadow Archetype: To Cal Kestis. Dagan is a warning of what Cal could turn into if he is consumed by his hatred of the Empire, trauma, and obsession with his goals. Cal has a close group of friends that he fights for. Dagan, at the end of the day, is really only fighting for himself.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Dagan was a seasoned and skilled Jedi Knight from the Order's High Republic era. By the time he is released from his bacta tank a hundred years later, the invasion of Tanalorr by the Nihil and his feeling betrayed by Santari and the Order remains fresh in his mind, as told by his moody, borderline-insane mentality.
  • Shirtless Scene: Dagan is topless in his first appearance in the present time in Jedi: Survivor. He was placed in a bacta tank, which requires someone to be topless if they are to be placed inside of one.
  • Slept Through the Apocalypse: Specifically, he slept through Order 66 (which occurred while he was in suspended animation) and is outraged that the Clone Wars-era Jedi had allowed themselves to become complacent enough for such a thing to happen.
Dagan: How could you let the Galaxy fall to this unworthy machine of an Empire? You think yourself a survivor, but you are a failure.
  • Smug Super: He is arrogant and thinks highly about his powers and abilities, which are indeed very impressive for a Jedi of his time. He is the most powerful opponent Cal faces off against in Jedi: Survivor.
  • Start of Darkness: He was a staunch Jedi Knight with a successful career... until the Nihil attacked Tanalorr and the Jedi Order didn't respond to his attempts to reach out, subsequently causing Dagan to feel betrayed and lash out against the order he served. This is downplayed as while Dagan's criticisms weren't wrong, he did feel entitled and the Order would have found it very difficult to reach Tanalorr, not to mention killing his fellow knights for simply disagreeing with him was overkill.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: He wants to overthrow Palpatine and his Empire by training a secret army on Tanalorr, a planet hidden away in an area of space difficult to navigate through. Palpatine and the Sith Eternal would eventually build a fleet of world-destroying Xyston-class Star Destroyers on Exegol: a planet hidden away in an area of space that is, once again, difficult to navigate. Both even require a specialized device to reach.
  • Still Wearing the Old Colors: Continues to wear the robes of the High Republic Jedi, despite that incarnation of the Order being long defunct, and him being a Dark Jedi with a grudge against the Order.
  • Strong and Skilled: This is what makes him Cal Kestis's most powerful enemy in Jedi: Survivor. Most opponents Cal fights against are either creatures with wild and unrefined attacks, droids with basic attack and defensive strategies regardless of strength, and soldiers and warriors who alternate between being really average, Weak, but Skilled, Unskilled, but Strong, or some combination thereof. Dagan, on the other hand, is an extremely powerful Jedi Knight who comes from the Jedi Order's Golden Age and has decades worth of experience to showcase a refined, dynamic, and elegant fighting style that allows him to quickly adapt and adjust himself to whatever situation he's in. With those in mind, he even surpasses the Inquisitors and Taron Malicos in how much of a threat Dagan was, and by their final fight, proved to be stronger and more resilient than Cal and Bode combined and would have killed them had it not been for an unexpected hallucination to exploit his mental trauma from Cal and a surprise blaster shot from behind from Bode to barely net them the victory.
  • Tainted Veins: The veins around his neck are noticeably dark after emerging from his prolonged stay in a bacta tank.
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: In all of his fights, Dagan will occasionally throw his lightsaber at Cal, directing his blade via telekinesis using the Force. By the time he modifies his saber to be a Double Weapon, he uses one-half as his primary throwing weapon to compensate for his lack of a right arm.
  • Too Powerful to Live: If Cal and Bode didn't kill him, Dagan would have joined the war between the Rebels and the Empire as a third faction, and the fact that he wanted to use Tanalorr as a secret base for creating an army of Force-sensitive soldiers and himself being one of the greatest lightsaber duelists and Force practitioner of the High Republic age meant he likely would have been a serious threat to Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, and even the Rebel Alliance in the long run. So of course, he had to be offed at the end of the game's second act.
  • Treachery Is a Special Kind of Evil: When Cal learns about and goes through Dagan's past, motives, and subsequent Start of Darkness, he's shocked at how he would go as far as kill fellow Jedi Knights for disagreeing with him. When he confronts Dagan again whilst freeing Zee, Cal asks about why Dagan committed his kills, and when he rationalized that he had to, Cal is appalled by Dagan's motives and states that regardless of their differences and disagreements, the Order was still a family to him. This only succeeds in pissing Dagan off further.
  • Underestimating Badassery: He refuses to consider Cal as a significant threat to the Bedlam Raiders and their plans despite Cal carving his way through their ranks single-handedly and Rayvis considering him a Worthy Opponent, despite otherwise respecting his ally's opinions and wishes. Far from just being mere arrogance though, he is indeed more powerful and skilled than Cal, and can still fight him to a rough stalemate even when he's still adjusting to his missing sword-arm. By the time Dagan regains his missing arm and is back at full power, Cal and Bode's best efforts amount to a Curb Stomp Cushion against him in direct combat. However, Dagan underestimates the danger Cal possesses beyond his lightsaber abilities, and leaves himself open for a mortal wound when Cal instead turns his Mind Rape back on himself...though he still comes close to killing Cal with a force-choke regardless before Bode intercedes, again validating his own opinion that Cal was not ready to challenge him to an all-out duel.
  • Vader Breath: His first appearance in Jedi: Survivor is of him in suspended animation in a bacta tank, his mouth covered in a breathing contraption to keep him alive alongside the liquid. When he's released, the first sounds he makes are rough, raspy breaths, much like a certain Sith Lord. It also foreshadows Dagan's role as the game's main villain.
  • Villainous Breakdown: His mind is already slipping as the game starts, and his final battle with Cal and Bode shatters it completely until he's basically a feral, gibbering lunatic.
    "You! You! Tanalorr! Is!"
  • Villainous Friendship: For all his faults, he genuinely cares about Rayvis as a friend and the two show a level of respect and warmth towards each other that you never see them exhibit towards anyone else.
  • Villainous Valor: Downplayed; Even after losing his most trusted confidant and much of the Bedlam Raiders, Dagan doesn't back out after being confronted by Cal and Bode for the compass and would much rather fight than ever surrender himself. What makes this a downplayed case is that Dagan at his full strength proves himself the superior combatant and would have won had it not been for two surprise attacks from Cal and Bode.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: The genuine friendship between Dagan and Rayvis doesn't stop them from trading barbs with each other:
Dagan: [referring to Rayvis' failure to kill Cal Kestis] All those years of incarceration dull your edge?
Rayvis: Sharp enough to see the Jedi might be your equal.
Dagan: Say it again and I'll cut out your tongue.
    Rayvis: It'll grow back.
  • Walking Spoiler: Look at all that whitespace. And despite his prominence in all the trailers, his name wasn't revealed until a few days before Jedi: Survivor was released.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He genuinely wants to overthrow the Empire, but his methods are so extreme that he's just as bad as them and Bode accusingly suggests that he'll just become the new Emperor if he wins.
  • White and Red and Eerie All Over: To compliment his nature as a man twisted into insanity and the Dark Side by his ambitions and delusionally thinking he's doing the galaxy a service, Dagan uses a red lightsaber and wears the gold and white robes of a High Republic Jedi for a fitting yet creepy color contrast.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Dagan's hair is a mixed shade of white and gray and he's a Fallen Jedi on the brink of insanity, willing to start a bloody war against the Empire if it means defeating the enemy and finding Tanalorr.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Once driven by a noble goal of creating a safe haven for the Jedi on Tanalorr, it eventually turned into an obsession, leading Dagan to turn on the Order when they "betrayed" him by abandoning his life's work. Placed in stasis after losing his arm to the one woman he thought he could trust, and lost to history for centuries after a calamity, Dagan is driven further into madness when Cal awakes him to a galaxy enslaved by an Empire that destroyed the Order turning him against those who might have been his allies.
    • Downplayed, as Tanalorr was already a perilous place to reach which was rendered moot for the Nihil's faster than light travel tech and his immediate reaction upon returning was to cut down anyone for merely disagreeing with him.
  • Worf Had the Flu: It becomes clear that Cal was only able to match Dagan alone in their first duel because the latter had just woken up from a state of bacta-induced suspended animation, on top of missing his right arm, which flashbacks indicate was his dominant sword hand. Once Dagan is back in top form, it takes the combined efforts of Cal and Bode to take him down, and just barely.

    Farzala Tarabal

Jedi Knight Farzala Tarabal

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/farzala.jpg

Species: Zygerrian

A Jedi Padawan stationed aboard the Star Hopper with his best friends Lula and Qort. Alongside Qort, he was raised to the rank of Jedi Knight for helping fight the Nihil.

  • The Apprentice: He is the under the tutelage of Master Obratuk Glii.
  • Blue Is Calm: Most Zygerrians have brown fur and skin, but Farzala has blue fur and pale blue skin and he's a heroic Jedi Padawan.
  • Childhood Friends: With Qort and Lula, and they have been friends since they were younglings.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: With Ishnar Ti-Kharatal, an enforcer for the Hutt cartels. Battling against the Drengir despite her having orders to capture or kill the Jedi helps hold the frayed alliance between the Jedi and the Hutts together.
  • Friendly Enemy: Develops this type of relationship with the Kajain'sa'Nikto Ishnar, who is an enforcer of the Hutts.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a green-bladed lightsaber.
  • Legally Dead: After being missing for one year following the destruction of Starlight, the Republic declares him and the other missing crew and Jedi as officially dead. However, he's still alive, but is being held aboard the Nihil prison ship, Korvix Vorn.
  • Play-Along Prisoner: He, Torban Buck and several other Jedi from the Star Hopper have been held prisoner aboard the Korvix Vorn for over a year while keeping their identity as Jedi secret. He notes that he and the rest of the Jedi could have escaped anytime, but chose to stay for the other prisoners' safety, as the Warden threatened to kill one prisoner for every day they've escaped captivity. Thus, he's waiting for the rest of his friends to rescue them.
  • Rank Up: He and Qort are made Jedi Knights at the end of The High Republic Adventures, just before the fall of Starlight Beacon.
  • Token Heroic Orc: Zygerrians were introduced in The Clone Wars as Jedi-hating slavers, and they still have a reputation as slavers during the High Republic era. Farzala, on the other hand, is a Jedi.

    Qort

Jedi Knight Qort

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/qort_jedi_knight_sw.png
Click here to see him masked

Species: Aloxian

Homeworld: Zav Alox

A Jedi Padawan stationed aboard the Star Hopper with his best friends Lula and Farzala. He was granted the rank of Jedi Knight following his contributions to fighting the Nihil threat.

  • Adaptational Mundanity: In Legends, vonduun crab armor was Yuuzhan Vong bio-tech shaped from creatures native to another galaxy. In Canon, vonduun crabs are not extra-galactic creatures (being found on Zav Alox) and the helmets the Aloxians make from their skulls aren't even suggested to be bio-tech. On the flipside, the vonduun crabs here are shown to be monstrous and the Aloxians fight them as a Rite of Passage as early as childhood (and it's implied that Qort fought one as a baby).
  • The Apprentice: He is apprenticed to Tabakan Pak, a Dug Jedi Master, although he only appears a handful of times and never is actually seen training Qort.
  • Broke Your Arm Punching Out Cthulhu: He managed to wound one of the Nameless during the fall of Starlight Beacon, but almost got himself killed doing so. While he wasn't able to kill the Nameless, Qort being able to just wound one of them is a milestone in itself, as most Jedi can't even get close to them without just being Mind Raped at best.
  • Child Soldier: Farks implies that Qort was abducted by Argoban raiders to be turned into one like they do with many Aloxian children.
  • Happily Adopted: He was an orphan found by Maz's pirates when they found him causing trouble with their cargo, and they took him to Maz, who raised him until he joined the Jedi Order.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard blue-bladed lightsaber.
  • Mythology Gag: His mask appears to be based on the look of Darth Krayt's helmet. In fact, the backstory for his mask references how Yuuzhan Vong armor was shaped from vonduun crabs and grows to bond with the Yuuzhan Vong warriors' bodies, and Darth Krayt's armor was indeed vonduun crab armor.
  • Nice Guy: One of Qort's defining traits is his kindness. He consistently is highly supportive of his friends and provides them someone to vent to if they need it, and shows that he is quite good at looking after and comforting younglings when a new class of them arrive at Starlight.
  • Odd Friendship: With Geode, presumably because no one can understand either of them and they're both apparently Deadpan Snarkers.
  • Rank Up: He and Farzala were made Jedi Knights shortly before Starlight Beacon was sabotaged.
  • Security Blanket: His skull mask, as is normal for Aloxian children. When he was separated from it as a baby, he went into a destructive fit, but calmed down once he reclaimed it. According to Farks, Argoban raiders often separate Aloxian children from their masks to make them into incredibly vicious Child Soldiers. When an Aloxian's skull grows to the point that the mask shatters, that is a sign that they have outgrown their childhood aggression and no longer need the mask. When Qort's mask shatters on Takodana, he singlehandedly takes out an entire Nihil fighter squadron on foot.
  • Skeletons in the Coat Closet: He wears a vonduun crab's skull for a mask, which he apparently he got from killing a vonduun crab as a baby as a standard Aloxian Rite of Passage, and is expected to wear that skull until adulthood, when his head causes it shatter (signifying that the Aloxian has overcome their aggressive nature).
  • Third Wheel: Despite Lula's narration claiming she, Farzala, and Qort are best friends, only Lula and Farzala are billed as the protagonists of The High Republic Adventures and Qort gets considerably less emphasis in the story than the duo. This changes in the latter half of the series, where his backstory gets focused upon.
  • The Unintelligible: He doesn't speak Basic and his speech is transcribed as an unidentified language to the readers. Hilariously, when he teams up with the crew of the Vessel, he becomes really good friends with Geode in one indecipherable conversation. After his skull mask is shattered during the Nihil attack on Takodana, he starts to speak a little bit of Basic.

    Reath Silas

Jedi Knight Reath Silas

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/17112245608323963406116134947158.jpg

Species: Human

Homeworld: Coruscant

Appearances: Into the Dark | The High Republic (2021) | Out of the Shadows | The Lonely Traveler is Home | Midnight Horizon | Shadows of Starlight | Defy the Storm | Tears of the Nameless

"All this time, all this fighting, all this death, and I haven't learned anything except how little I know."

The second Padawan of Jora Malli, Reath was subsequently apprenticed to Cohmac Vitus after her death. He was traveling from Coruscant to the Starlight Beacon at the time of the Great Disaster with several other Jedi and became embroiled in the early stages of the conflict against both the Nihil and Drengir. After helping save Corellia from a Nihil coup, Reath was promoted to the rank of Jedi Knight.

  • The Ace: He considers himself this, having been seventeen when he was trusted with important missions while most Padawans were at least twenty when they qualified, he aced his exams, and is a top-ranking student even in classes he doesn't like such as dueling.
  • Adventurer Archaeologist: Became one while working with Cohmac on Starlight, as in between missions fighting Nihil and Drengir his master sought out artifacts that were often in dangerous locations or hands.
  • The Apprentice: He was Jora's, but her death fighting the Nihil resulted in Cohmac Vitus becoming his second Master.
  • Awesome by Analysis: Reath is good at making shrewd observations from a quick line of dialogue.
  • Badass Bookworm: Despite him disliking fighting he's very good at it.
  • Bad Liar: One area where he is not particularly talented is deception. When tasked with fooling a singer that he is a member of the bodyguard organization she employs, everyone around him is practically cringing in embarrassment as he fumbles his way through a comlink conversation with her.
  • Bookworm: He enjoys reading about Jedi history in the Temple Archives, which is why he's upset about being assigned away from Coruscant in Into the Dark. When Kym tells him that any other padawan would envy him for his reassignment and that it could mean adventure, he remarks to himself that "adventure" usually means "a lot of bugs" and that he would rather stay home. However, even Reath finds Cohmac's efforts to build a rare library on Starlight Beacon to be a lot, with his master putting off food when returning from a mission just to have a meeting with Avar about the acquisition of another rare tome.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Zigzagged. Reath isn't lazy but he'd much rather be researching and studying than going on an adventure despite being top of his class in lightsaber dueling.
  • Childhood Friends: He has known Vernestra since they were younglings and they remained close friends as Padawans. Despite his crush on her, their friendship allows them to work well together on missions.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: While stationed on Starlight, Reath begins searching for what his true calling as a Jedi is, torn between his academic work and being a warrior defending the people. He eventually realizes that as a Jedi, there is no one path and that he is not lost trying to find one, and that he must go where the Force takes him.
  • Fish out of Water: His first foray out onto the frontier shows how his lack of experience in such environments causes trouble. Nan completely fools him into believing she is an innocent spacer and Reath tells her all about the Jedi Order without a second thought. The realization of how easily fooled he was wisens Reath up considerably and he is much wearier in the future about trusting people he just met.
  • From Bad to Worse: Don't want adventure? Wish you could just stay home? Have fun getting caught in a disaster that strands you on an abandoned space station home to a species of ancient Eldritch Abominations that are now loose in the galaxy again! Also, your master is dead. Into the Dark author Claudia Gray even describes it as an introvert's worst nightmare.
  • Incompatible Orientation: Out of the Shadows reveals he has a crush on Vernestra ever since they were kids. She is completely unaware of it, due to being asexual and somewhat oblivious about any matters related to attraction.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard green-bladed lightsaber. Its hilt is decorated with gold accents and a green crystal embedded in it that matches the blade's color.
  • Noodle Incident: It's off-handily mentioned in Out of the Shadows that during the first year of missions he went on with Cohmac there was one attempted kidnapping of him, and one successful one. Where and why for both incidents are never made clear.
  • Pride: Starts out as rather prideful about being an ace student and the padawan of a highly-esteemed council member, and is unappreciative of being reassigned to a position that other apprentices would see as an opportunity for adventure. To his credit, he does acknowledge that he's being too prideful about this that he risks being snobby.
  • Rank Up: At the end of Midnight Horizon Reath is promoted to Jedi Knight and knighted by Cohmac, Kantam, and Yoda.
  • Reassigned to Antarctica: His initial reaction to Jora resigning from the Council so that they could both be stationed at the Starlight Beacon, a huge move from their current position on Coruscant to the galaxy's frontier. He's certain that his reassignment just means being stuck in the middle of nowhere and would rather stay home on Coruscant than pursue "adventure".
  • Refusal of the Call: He's reluctant to being reassigned to Starlight instead of Coruscant, though he doesn't have much of a choice. He grows out of it just in time for Starlight Beacon to be destroyed.
  • Resigned to the Call: Soon after deciding his path forward as a Jedi will be found staying at Starlight and accepting it as his home, Reath is assigned to a mission back in the Core Worlds on Corellia. He concludes the Force likes knocking him out of his comfort zone so that he can learn from being uncomfortable and grow as a Jedi.
  • Reluctant Warrior: He dislikes fighting despite his talent at it, but comes to find solace in the knowledge that while being a warrior is not who he is, the good he can do as one is worthwhile.
  • Surpassed the Teacher: The experience he gains fighting and his training sessions with Cohmac turn Reath into a highly capable lightsaber wielder. However, Reath noticed that the sessions he had with Cohmac improved only his skills and not his master's, and the training sessions eventually became repeated one-sided ass-kickings against Cohmac.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In the two-year timespan that Phase I takes place in, Reath's battles against the Nihil and intense training sessions with Cohmac turn him into a highly skilled warrior.
  • Weak, but Skilled: His natural strength in the Force is weaker than average, which he made up for with hard work.
  • Well-Trained, but Inexperienced: He has years of training as a Padawan at the start of the series, but almost all of it is on Coruscant and he has no experience of life in the Outer Rim. That quickly changes as he gets assigned to Starlight and thrown headfirst into the fight against the Nihil, gaining a lot of valuable combat experience.

    Burryaga

Jedi Knight Burryaga, "Burry"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/burryaga_agaburry_sw.jpg

Species: Wookiee

Homeworld: Kashyyyk

A young Wookiee Padawan apprenticed to Jedi Knight Nib Assek. Burryaga and his master were stationed in the frontier and participated in numerous battles against both the Nihil and Drengir. Following the fall of Starlight Beacon, Burry became trapped in an underwater cave on Eiram before being rescued by Bell Zettifar. The two Padawans were subsequently knighted and began patrolling the border of the Occlusion Zone together to respond to Nihil assaults on Republic settlements.

  • Affectionate Nickname: The other Jedi call him "Burry" for short.
  • Best Friend: He and Bell become each other's closest friend in the months before Starlight Beacon's destruction. Because of their friendship, Bell never gives up on finding Burry after its fall and the two team up to help patrol the Occlusion Zone's border with the Republic Defense Coalition.
  • The Big Guy: Comes with being a Wookiee, but Word of God implicitly mentions his lightsaber being two-handed, implying it's a fair bit bigger than traditional sabers.
  • The Empath: His personal connection to the Force allows him to sense the emotions of others to a much greater degree than other Jedi. This allows him to detect that there are living people on the debris of the Great Disaster due to their overwhelming fear and panic. However, it also has the downside of making him very susceptible to being overwhelmed by disturbances in the Force when large numbers of people are suffering or dying.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: He is a couple feet taller and significantly broader than his master Nib.
  • Humble Hero: Burryaga is uncomfortable with being singled out to survivors of the Legacy Run as the one who kept the ship fragments they were on from being destroyed.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a blue-bladed lightsaber that has a crossguard.
  • Morality Chain: He helps keep Bell on the Jedi path after destruction of Starlight Beacon, as Bell begins to lose sight of a Jedi's duties outside of fighting Nihil and needs reminders of their responsibility to help people.
  • Never Found the Body: He is assumed dead after being carried away by Rathtars and the section of the Starlight Beacon he was in is subsequently exposed to the vacuum of space, but Burryaga's death is never confirmed, and Bell resolves to not give up looking for him as he did not feel his fellow Padawan's death in the Force. "All Jedi Walk Their Own Path" reveals that he survived the fall of Starlight, had been living in an underwater cavern on Eiram for over a month, and sending talismans made from his fur to the surface as an S.O.S. Bell eventually saves him with help from Eiram's officials.
  • Nice Guy: He's an overall kind and compassionate person, always ready to take the time to do things like hold the door open for a reporter.
  • Odd Name Out: Unlike other Wookiees, who have One Name Only, Burryaga Agaburry has a first name and a surname. However, since Burryaga's introduction in pre-promotional material, most if not all The High Republic content states his name is just Burryaga, so his last name of Agaburry may have been dropped in the final version.
  • Rank Up: He and Bell were knighted by the Jedi Council after returning to Coruscant, with the fall of Starlight and their subsequent ordeals being considered their trials of knighthood.
  • Repetitive Name: His first name and last name are just the same name but with parts of it in reverse order.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: Due to his empathic senses, Burryaga can get overwhelmed in crowds, which combined with most beings not understanding Shyriiwook causes him to be withdrawn in social situations.
  • There Is Another: He is the second Wookiee Jedi in canon after Gungi. Wookiee Jedi used to be prohibited by George Lucas (with the aforementioned Gungi as an exception).

    Bell Zettifar

Jedi Knight Bell Zettifar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bell_zettifar_sw.png

Species: Human

Homeworld: Chandrila

Voiced by: Marcus Scribner (Young Jedi Adventures)

The Padawan of Loden Greatstorm, Bell was stationed with him on Elphrona. During his time at the outpost there he bonded with a charhound named Ember who became Bell's constant companion. Following the destruction of Starlight Beacon, Bell rescued Burryaga from its wreckage and was knighted by the Jedi Council. He and Burry then patrolled the border of the Occlusion Zone to respond to any attacks by the Nihil on the Republic.

  • The Apprentice: He is Loden's latest apprentice, which is considered a great honor due to the Twi'lek Jedi being considered one of the best masters in the Order. After Loden's presumed death, Indeera Stokes becomes Bell's new master.
  • The Beastmaster: His bond with Ember is extremely strong and she follows Bell into battle often, including aboard his starfighter.
  • Best Friend: He and Burry become each other's closest friend in the months before Starlight Beacon's destruction. Because of their friendship, Bell never gives up on finding Burry after its fall and the two team up to help patrol the Occlusion Zone's border with the Republic Defense Coalition.
  • Blood Knight: A milder example than his master, but he too loves the thrill of a good fight.
  • Dreadlock Warrior: A Jedi who rocks a set of dreads until he cuts them off around six months after the Fall of Starlight Beacon.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: A couple months after being elevated to Jedi Knight and preparing to depart for patrolling the borders of the Stormwall with Grand Master Veter, Bell decides to cut his hair short and shave. He explains to Burry that with a new rank and mission he wanted a more focused look as well.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: He has a charhound named Ember. Charhounds are basically dogs that can breathe fire. On the downside, all of their bodily fluids are flammable.
  • I Will Find You: With Burryaga's fate unknown (but presumed dead by everyone else) after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, Bell vowed to find his friend, staying on Eiram for a few months searching for any confirmation of his fate. He eventually finds Burry alive and trapped taking shelter in an undersea cavern and rescues him.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: During a Nihil attack on Cyclor, Bell's Vector is pierced by a lance fired by one of the Nihil's ships that also pierces his stomach. Despite the injury, he manages to destroy several more Nihil and disrupt their attack, although he nearly dies after his fighter is recovered.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a green-bladed lightsaber. It was lost aboard the wreckage of the Innovator when it sank beneath the sea on Valo during the Nihil's attack, but Stellan Gios gifted Bell his former master Rana Kant's green-bladed lightsaber as a replacement.
  • Nice Guy: Bell, at his core, is extremely friendly and helpful individual who makes friends easily and treats all those around him with understanding and compassion, no matter what he himself is going through at the time.
  • Rank Up: He and Burry were knighted by the Indeera and the Jedi Council after returning to Coruscant, with the fall of Starlight and their subsequent ordeals being considered their trials of knighthood under the recently enacted Guardian Protocals.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Poor Bell has a horrific time after the end of Light of the Jedi. His master is presumed dead, he is severely wounded in a Nihil attack, and while recovering at the Republic Fair on Valo the Nihil attack again. Bell nearly loses his life multiple times desperately trying to save people during the battle, aggravating his wound in the process. He has a Hope Spot at the end when he is reunited with Loden during the Jedi's assault on the Nihil's Grizal base, but Marchion Ro unleashes the Leveler, which Mind Rapes Bell and turns Loden to stone. He then goes through some of the same trauma all over again during the fall of Starlight Beacon, having colleagues die either in the station's destruction or by the Nameless (much like Loden).

    Klias Teradine

Jedi Padawan Klias Teradine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/klias_teradine_sw.png

Species: Zeltron

A Padawan who was close with Tylera when they were apprentices. An avid seeker of knowledge, Teradine studied many techniques utilized by other Force wielding organizations. At some point, an incident involving sneaking into the Yallow Shrine caused Teradine to become persona non grata to the Jedi Order and Tylera to leave the organization.

  • Early-Bird Cameo: He's first mentioned by Dooku in Dooku Jedi Lost, having been unpersoned by the Jedi Order after an incident involving the Yallow Shrine and discovering the Bogan Collection. It's speculated in-universe that he was expelled for either stealing records from the Jedi Archives or having an affair with the Chancellor's aide. It's revealed in The Monster of Temple Peak that Ty killed him in self-defense after he was driven insane by one of the Yallow artifacts.
  • Laser Blade: Wielded a green-bladed lightsaber that had a physical crossguard.
  • Posthumous Character: He has been dead for more than a decade and only appears in flashbacks to Ty's past adventures with him.
  • Too Clever by Half: Klias was extremely powerful and smart, but his overconfidence led him to believe he could breach a Yallow Shrine without enough preparation or research. This costs him his life when one of the artifacts within drives him mad.
  • Wall Crawl: He is able to stand on the side of a cliff face courtesy of a technique he learned from the texts of the Sabracci Sages.

    Lula Talisola

Jedi Padawan Lula Talisola

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ca4523b2_964e_4560_afb0_c1e36bb71796.jpeg

Species: Human

A Jedi Padawan stationed aboard the Star Hopper with her best friends Farzala and Qort. Along with their masters and several other Padawans they find themselves on the frontlines of the conflict with the Nihil and Drengir, with Lula also befriending Zeen Mrala and finding her vows of non-attachment challenged as the two grow closer.

  • The Ace: In the first issue of The High Republic Adventures, her internal monologue mentions that she's passed her exams with flying colors and is at the top all her class rankings.
  • The Apprentice: She is the student of Master Kantam Sy, which puts her in a Master-Apprentice Chain with Yoda, who was Kantam's master.
  • Bolivian Army Cliffhanger: She was aboard Starlight when it was destroyed, last seen fighting with Krix Kamerat to ensure he doesn't escape when it entered Eiram's atmosphere, and is listed as missing-in-action or presumed dead along with numerous other Jedi at the end of Phase 1. Zeen does not feel her die and is sure that she survived, vowing to find Lula. She's confirmed to be still be alive at the end of the first issue of The High Republic Adventures (2023), going by the alias of the Nihil warlord Tartak Vil on the moon Bracront.
  • Declining Promotion: When the rest of her fellow Padawans on the Star Hopper are offered Knighthood, Lula turns hers down due to still needing to sort out her feelings for Zeen.
  • Didn't Think This Through: In trying to find Zeen based on what little she remembers, she floats a message across the HoloNet stating "I have what the Mikkian wants" to get her attention. Unfortunately, because the message is so cryptic and doesn't state which Mikkian, a whole mob of Mikkians from across the galaxy have also picked up the message, taken it at face value, and come to Bracront for "Tartak Vil".
  • Generation Xerox: Follows in her master Kantam's footsteps of questioning their place in the Jedi Order due to romantic feelings, which they feel makes them unsuitable for Knighthood.
  • Identity Amnesia: After surviving the fall of Starlight Beacon, she loses most of her memories (aside from some vague recollections of Zeen) of being a Jedi, and thanks to the presence of Nihil armor at the site of where she wakes up on Eiram, she comes to believe she was with the Nihil and takes on the alias of a warlord named Tartak Vil.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a blue-bladed lightsaber.
  • The Leader: Her charisma and talent led to her becoming the leader of the Padawans aboard the Star Hopper, although it was not a position she had sought out. Her natural leadership talents are noted by Kantam and the other Jedi in the anti-Nihil taskforce, and when Kantam needs to depart for a mission to Corellia he appoints Lula to take his place in commanding an upcoming operation with the approval of the other Masters so she can further develop her leadership skills.
  • Legally Dead: After being missing for one year following the destruction of Starlight Beacon, Lula is officially listed as dead. Zeen, however, refuses to believe it. Turns out she's still alive.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Lula is a diminutive of the name Louise, meaning "renowned warrior".
    • Talis is another name for tallit, a Jewish prayer shawl.
    • Sola is derived from sol, meaning "sun" in multiple languages.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Her friends have never let her forget that while trying to make tea, she burnt the water. Ram and Ishnar wonder how is that possible.
  • Parental Abandonment: What exactly happened to her parents is unknown, but she was living in an orphanage on Naboo when Kantam found her.
  • The Protagonist: She is the primary protagonist of the Phase I Adventures series.
  • Ship Tease: As the series goes on it becomes clear that there is more than just friendship developing between her and Zeen. The two admit their feelings after Krix is captured and Zeen prepares to depart for Corellia, exchanging a Headbutt of Love while promising to figure things out between them.
  • Superdickery: She is retroactively subject to this by promotional material for The High Republic Adventures (2023), as "Tartak Vil" is billed as a major villain for the first arc of the comic and shown fighting with Kantam Sy on the third issue's cover. This was mainly done to hide Lula's survival before the first issue released. As for her duel with Kantam, not only does she not wear the Tartak Vil armor during the duel, the duel is a lot friendlier in context.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Lula's Force abilities manifested for the first time happened when she and another orphan were taken by a kolvor on Naboo. As the giant bird dropped them to dash them against some rocks, Lula was saved from falling by Kantam catching her with the Force. She imitated their gestures and caught the other child before they hit.
  • Two Guys and a Girl: Makes this type of trio with Farzala and Qort.

    Imri Cantaros

Jedi Padawan Imri Cantaros

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/imri_cantaros_sw_9.png

Species: Human (Genetian)

Homeworld: Genetia, Hynestia

The padawan of Jedi Master Douglas Sunvale, Imri is a highly empathic Force user. He was a part of the group stranded on a jungle moon Wevo with Vernestra Rwoh after the Great Disaster. With his master' death, Imri became apprenticed to Vernestra and worked with her on numerous operations against both the Nihil and Drengir from Starlight Beacon.

  • The Apprentice: He was first apprenticed to Douglas Sunvale until his death, with Vernestra taking up duties as Imri's master after they bonded on Wevo.
  • The Cameo: He and Vernestra are mentioned as showing up at the opening ceremony for the Starlight Beacon at the end of Light of the Jedi, their own perspective being told in A Test of Courage.
  • The Empath: His connection to the Force makes him very sensitive to the emotions of those around him, which can easily overwhelm him if he isn't prepared for someone to be feeling something strongly. Just being around Sylvestri Yarrow and Jordanna Sparkburn when they reunite leaves him in tears, as their complex feelings of love, longing, and abandonment completely overwhelm him.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Towards Master Avar Kriss, with Vernestra thinking it is also partly a teenage crush. Imri partly models his second lightsaber's design after Avar's own lightsaber hilt.
  • Kid Hero: In his debut in A Test of Courage, he was fourteen years old, only two years younger than Vernestra.
  • Knighting: After Vernestra finds him on Aricho, she realizes their year apart led to Imri finding his own path as a Jedi and that she has nothing more to teach him, knighting him before they go their separate ways.
  • Laser Blade: Wielded a blue-bladed lightsaber, although it was malfunctioning after he had disassembled it for repairs but did not put it back together correctly, resulting in the blade's cutting power being lowered. It was destroyed in a duel against Vernestra after she had to prevent him from chocking Klinith Da with the Force. Imri built his second lightsaber, which also had a blue blade, after the Battle of Valo and was inspired by Master Avar Kriss' lightsaber to add a physical crossguard onto the hilt.
  • Legally Dead: He was aboard Starlight Beacon when it was bombed. Vernestra was on Eiram at the time and believes him to have died in the station's destruction. However, he's revealed to still be alive in Defy the Storm, and is trapped in the Occlusion Zone.
  • Mind over Manners: Due to being able to sense other people's moods so easily, he can also manipulate that emotional connection. Imri struggles to know when it is or isn't appropriate to do so, particularly when someone is in severe distress, but frequently errs on the side of caution as such manipulation could be considered extremely unethical and violating.
  • Power Incontinence: He has trouble dealing with his empathic abilities, and frequently tries different meditation techniques to help block out other people's feelings. The meditations have finally begun to work by Mission to Disaster, allowing Imri some relief from his powers.
  • Psychic Strangle: Used the Dark Side to try and choke Klinith Da to death with the Force when she threatened Vernestra.
  • Revenge: While stranded on Wevo, Imri discovered the Nihil responsible for Sunvale's death were trapped there too. With his empathic abilities making it difficult to deal with his own emotions, the desire for revenge nearly caused Imri to fall to the Dark Side and was only saved by Vernestra getting him to calm down and process his emotions.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: His empathic abilities are attributed to the Genetian side of his family, as Force sensitives from that world tend to have them.
  • Wrecked Weapon: His lightsaber gets wrecked by the end of A Test of Courage, and he decides to give it to Avon, who had been pestering Vernestra to let her hold hers.

    Ram Jomaram

Jedi Padawan Ram Jomaram

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ram_jamoram_sw.png

Species: Human

Homeworld: Valo

A Jedi mechanic assigned to the Valo Temple. After the attack on the Republic Fair, Ram volunteers to join the anti-Nihil taskforce and fights alongside his fellow Padawans from the Star Hopper.

  • The Apprentice: His master is Kunpar Vasivola, an Ongree stationed at the Valo Temple who remains there while Ram joins the anti-Nihil task force. They frequently communicate over Holocomm to work on Ram's training and discuss issues he is dealing with.
  • Ascended Fanboy: During the mission to Corellia, Ram is ecstatic about not only meeting famous starship designer Shug Drabor, but actually work alongside him as well.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Ram is one of the kindest and sweetest Jedi around. He also almost makes all of the comlinks in a room explode when angered by the callousness of the partygoers within.
  • The Call Knows Where You Live: He may be a Jedi, but he'd rather be working in a garage than going on an adventure. However, when the Nihil attack his home planet of Valo during the Republic Fair, he wastes no effort protecting his home planet and teams up with Lula afterward.
  • Catchphrase: He's fond of saying "wizard" in response to seeing or hearing about something amazing, claiming that "wizard" is a Valo slang word. In truth, he completely made it up. While it didn't seem to catch on as a slang word in Ram's time (aside from Gavi, Tep Tep and Kildo), that didn't stop other people from using it two centuries later.
  • Endearingly Dorky: He isn't great with social situations, preferring to work on his machines and other projects, although he does enjoy spending time with his fellow Padawans and wants to get better at being social. The others find Ram's awkwardness endearing and encourage his efforts to be better at social interactions, like figuring out how to tell jokes in a natural manner.
  • Everyone's Baby Brother: Ram's awkwardness and sweet nature makes all the younger Jedi on Starlight view him as a little sibling they want to help and protect.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Compared to other Jedi he's far more gifted with machines, and working with said machines is how he connects with the Force.
  • Guile Hero: When the Nihil attempt to weaponize Drengir by planting their seeds around Crashpoint Tower and promising them "live meat", Ram turns the Drengir against the Nihil when he tells them that the Nihil lied to them and that they planned to kill most of the Republic Fair-goers during their attack (thus spoiling the "meat" for them). During the defense of Lonisa City, he saves Ty Yorrick from Nihil scav droids by using his technological expertise to make one think itself was Ty and broadcasting it to the other droids, tricking the other droids into attacking it instead of her.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Ram may be one of biggest mechanical geniuses in the Jedi Order, but he is overjoyed about meeting Shug Drabor on Corellia and quickly descends into open fanboying when offered a tour of his Shug's shipyards.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a yellow-bladed lightsaber. The hilt of the blade is adorned with golden accents that complimented the blade's color.
  • Power Incontinence: The social elite of Corellia having a Nihil themed party infuriates Ram and he accidentally causes several comlinks around the room to begin exploding before Reath calms him down.
  • Technopath: His connection to the Force allows him to connect with machines and influence them more than most other Jedi are capable of.
  • Weak, but Skilled: His lightsaber skills are rather lacking, but he's a very gifted mechanic. However, the Nihil occupation of Valo has forced him to refine his lightsaber skills.

    Keerin Fionn

Jedi Padawan Keerin Fionn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/keerin_fionn_cover.jpg

Species: Human

Appearances: The Edge of Balance

The Padawan of Jedi Knight Lily Tora-asi, who was stationed alongside his master on Banchii.

  • The Apprentice: He was specifically apprenticed to Lily Tora-asi.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard green-bladed lightsaber.
  • A Tragedy of Impulsiveness: When trying to stop some Nihil preparing a cannon to use on the Banchii Jedi Temple, he takes one of the Nihil hostage to get them to back down, only to be stopped when the Nihil show that they have Mr. Zaret hostage. When Keerin relents, Zaret shows his true colors as a Nihil collaborator and shoots Keerin dead.

    Amadeo Azzazzo

Jedi Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amadeo_azzazzo_sw.png

Species: Human

Appears in: The Call of Coruscant | Shadows of Starlight | Defy the Storm | Tears of the Nameless

"The Force is my anchor. It's my roots. It's my connection to everyone, and everything."

The apprentice of Mirro Lox, Amadeo is a curious student always eager to learn more about the many worlds he and his master visit.

  • Alliterative Name: Amadeo Azzazzo.
  • Laser Blade: He wields a standard lightsaber with a light-green colored blade.
  • "Leave Your Quest" Test: When visiting Coruscant for the first time since becoming Mirro's Padawan at around thirteen, Amadeo feels compelled to go out and explore. He ends up meeting a Tholothian named Alees and her friends, has a wild night with them that includes drinking, a bar fight, and various other shenanigans which are heavily hinted to include losing his virginity to Alees. The taste of life outside the Order intrigues Amadeo, who wonders about having a regular job with friends and not worrying about being killed by threats like the Nihil or Nameless. He settles on returning to the Jedi, realizing that the Force is his primary connection to life and that through the Order he fulfills that connection best, although the friendship with Alees and the others is something that it is suggested he will maintain as well.
  • Playing Possum: When a corrupt mining boss tries to gas him, Mirro, and the local representative, Amadeo pretends to fall prey to the gas to lure the boss in close and steal his respirator from him.

    Bibs

Jedi Padawan Bibs

Species: Bravaisian

A young Padawan who is amongst the students stationed on the Star Hopper and at Starlight Beacon.

  • Mauve Shirt: They are not a main character like the other members of the Star Hopper Padawans and serve only a supporting role before becoming a victim of the Nameless when Starlight Beacon is destroyed.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: They tend to mostly be in group or background scenes, but Bibs plays a critical role by locating Krix's base of operations on Dol'har Hyde.

    Ruu

Ruu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/17115560453653871642687419678175.jpg

Species: Lucem

Homeworld: Corellia

Stationed at the Cornet City Temple on Corellia, Ruu and his master chose to stay on the planet when the recall order was issued by the Jedi Council to fight against the Nihil incursion. After his master was killed in battle, Ruu grew disillusioned with the Jedi way and began using both the Light and Dark side of the Force while hunting Nihil before eventually being recruited by Alys Ongwan into her organization.

  • The Apprentice: He was apprenticed to Jedi Master Conithr, who he knew as a youngling and who had helped him change his name in the Jedi's database when he transitioned. When the time came to become a Padawan, Ruu asked her to teach him as he knew he could trust and count on her.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: He begins tapping into the Dark side and using Force abilities forbidden by the Jedi, but only utilizes them to target Nihil and their collaborators.
  • I Choose to Stay: He and Master Conithr both decided not to follow the Jedi Council's recall order to Coruscant, as they felt they could not abandon Corellia in a time of crisis.
  • Laser Blade: Ruu wield a standard blue-bladed lightsaber.
  • No Last Name Given: It hasn't been revealed if he has a last name or not.
  • Rubber-Forehead Aliens: He looks very close to being Human, but Ruu is a Lucem and has very pale, translucent white skin and fully black eyes with many little tiny white pupils.
  • Twofer Token Minority: He's both trans and a non-human.

    Kai Brightstar

Jedi Initiate Kai Brightstar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kai_brightstar_sw.png

Species: Human

Voiced by: Jamaal Avery Jr.

A Jedi youngling who hopes to follow in the footsteps of Jedi Master Yoda and become a Jedi Knight. Along with fellow younglings Lys Solay and Nubs, he trained on the forest planet Tenoo for training during the High Republic Era.

  • Deadpan Snarker: Never enough to be rude, but while he tends to be chipper and perky Kai is a bit more prone dry one liners than his friends in the moment.
Kai: (when stuck in a trash compator) "Oh, great. The Walls Are Closing In. That's fun."
  • Kid Hero: Only a youngling, but he already goes on adventures and missions with his friends.
  • Laser Blade: He initially wields a standard blue-bladed lightsaber, but it is stolen by the pirate Taborr Val Dorn on an early mission. Yoda gifts him one of his own green-bladed training sabers to replace it.
  • Luke Nounverber: His name is Brightstar.
  • Nice Guy: Though this applies to all of his friends, Kai especially is extremely outgoing and enthusiastic about helping other people - even in situations where he might not necessarily know how to do so - and can make friends with almost anyone, even his enemies at times.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Due to his impulsive nature, Kai is often susceptible to causing messes that he has to figure out how to fix.
  • Token Human: Amongst the three Jedi Youngling protagonists of the series, he is the only human.

    Lys Solay

Jedi Initiate Lys Solay

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lys_solay_sw.png

Species: Pantoran

Voiced by: Juliet Donenfeld

A female Jedi youngling who is best friends with Kai Brightstar. Like him and Nubs, she was stationed on the forest planet Tenoo for training.

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: She tends to get distracted when she sees creatures she adores.
  • Fluffy Tamer: She has a keen interest in animals, and shows signs of being able to use a mild form of animal communication/beast taming Force power, even at her young age.
  • Laser Blade: She wields a standard lightsaber that has a purple blade.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Much like Kai, she is usually the cause of the very problems she and her friends must solve, in her case it comes from her not paying attention due to being a creature lover.
  • Purple Is Powerful: She's a blue-skinned alien girl who wields a purple lightsaber and has purple hair, and a promising young Yedi.
  • Skewed Priorities: Lys has been known to favor gushing about whatever rare creatures the group comes across over things like whether those creatures are actively trying to hurt them, to her friends’ occasional chagrin.

    Nubs

Jedi Initiate Nubs

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nubs_sw.png

Species: Pooba

A Pooba male who trained as a Jedi Initiate during the High Republic Era. Inseparable from fellow younglings Kai Brightstar and Lys Solay, Nubs studied the ways of the Force under the watchful eye of Grand Master Yoda on the planet Tenoo.

  • Big Eater: To the point where the first thing his friends notice when he's not feeling well is a loss of appetite.
  • Green Thumb: Nubs loves plants, and shows an interest in learning more about botany.
  • Laser Blade: He wields a standard lightsaber with a blue blade.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Despite being only a child no bigger than this two friends, he has tremendous strength, even without relying on The Force.
  • The Unintelligible: He speaks in his own language which is incomprehensible to the viewers, with occasionally an English word thrown in. His two friends understand him just fine though. Raxlo doesn't.

    Djovi Resmia

Jedi Initiate Djovi Resmia

Species: Human

Voiced by: Valeria Rodriguez

A Jedi Initiate who trained on the planet Tenoo during the High Republic Era. A contemporary of classmates Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay and Nubs, Djovi was considered a prodigy in lightsaber technique and formed a friendly rivalry with Kai during their training.

  • Always Someone Better: Goes both ways. Kai considers them this because Djovi routinely bests him in spars and masters lightsaber techniques that Kai struggles with with ease. But Kai is shocked to learn that Djovi considers Kai the Always Someone Better in their rivalry, as Kai is more accomplished and well known than Djovi is, having gone on adventures and done many heroic deeds. Eventually they both decide to stop thinking of each other this way.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Subverted. They initially act this way, but then turns out to only be making a show of acting this way because they felt inadequate and wanted to look impressive next to Kai. Once they talk it out, it goes away.
  • Friendly Rivalry: Starts off as a more straightforward The Rival, but quickly changes into this. They remain competitive with one another, but only because it helps inspire them to improve and with no hard feelings.
  • Spirit Advisor: A vision of them, though not the real one, appears during a force vision of Kai's, as one of the people who inspires Kai to improve.

    Gavi

Jedi Initiate Gavi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gavi_sw.png

Species: Human

Homeworld: Valo

Appearances: Escape from Valo

An initiate at the Temple on Valo, Gavi survived the Nihil invasion of the world and hides with his fellow initiates Tep Tep and Kildo from their occupation.

  • Break the Cutie: During the initial Nihil occupation, he watched his Master Aebal be executed via Nameless on top of the creature's presence affecting him. This event was traumatic enough that he flashes back to this event every time he tries to use the Force.
  • Heroic BSoD: Aside from the Nameless-inflicted trauma, he has a panic attack and flashes back to Master Aebal's death when he gets word that Vark Tarpalin is planning to have Master Kunpar executed via Nameless.
  • I Choose to Stay: After getting the Innovator out of Lake Lonisa, Gavi decides to stay behind on Valo to help rebuild and aid the resistance against what's left of the Nihil on Valo, while Kildo and Tep Tep join Ram for further adventures.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard blue-bladed lightsaber.
  • Survivor's Guilt: Gavi has some lingering guilt over leaving his non-Jedi friend Driggit Parse (who has since become an enforcer for the Nihil) behind in Lonisa City due to the Masters evacuating them so fast that they didn't even have time leave a note.

    Tep Tep

Jedi Initiate Tep Tep

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tep_tep_sw.png

Species: Alcedian

Homeworld: Valo

A young initiate who has deep ties to nature, Tep Tep survived alongside her friends Gavi and Kildo when the Nihil invaded and occupied Valo.

  • Bird People: She is an Alcedian, an avian species native to Valo, with her design and personality being based on curly feathered pigeons.
  • Fluffy Tamer: On top of her having a nexu cub for a pet, she also charmed a pack of five acklays and got them to act as bodyguards for the younglings' hideout. Appropriately, she also has a habit of giving them cute names (such as once calling a runaway rathtar "Bubbles").
  • Foil: Tep Tep is one to Lys Solay. Both are the sole girl in a trio of Jedi younglings during the High Republic era who have a strong affinity with animals. While Lys is very sociable, Tep Tep on the other hand is incredibly shy.
  • Friend to All Living Things: While she is rather shy, Tep Tep has a powerful connection through the Force with wild animals. As evidenced by the nexu cub she has for a pet, that also includes the large, scary carnivorous types.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard green-bladed lightsaber.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She not only gets along really well with the large, scary and carnivorous types of animals (such as acklays and rathtars), they are also her favorites.
  • Shrinking Violet: Of the three, Tep Tep is rather shy, usually preferring the company of animals.
  • Trans Tribulations: Downplayed, as it is mentioned in a flashback that her initial intense shyness when she was very young was due to not being out as trans. Once Tep Tep was and began living openly as a girl and under a new name, her most intense shyness vanished until the trauma of the Nihil occupation brought it back to an extent.

    Kildo

Jedi Initiate Kildo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kildo_sw.png

Species: Alcedian

Homeworld: Valo

A prankster at the Temple on Valo, Kildo joined his friends in surviving within the wilds of the planet after the Nihil's occupation began.

  • Bird People: Kildo is an Alcedian, an avian species native to Valo, with his design and personality being based on a magpie.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: His teachers note that he has a lot of potential, but doesn't apply it and would rather spend his time messing with others.
  • Class Clown: He is the more carefree of the three and is rather mischievous.
  • The Gadfly: Again, this kid is an absolute prankster that will mess with both his classmates and his teachers.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard purple-bladed lightsaber.

Others

    Ty Yorrick

Ty Yorrick, formerly Tylera

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ty_yorrick_sw.png

Species: Tholothian

A saber-for-hire and a monster hunter who was once trained as a padawan before leaving the Jedi Order after a tragic exploration of a Yallow Shrine.

  • The Apprentice: During her time as a padawan she was apprenticed to Master Cibaba.
  • Broken Bird: Her experiences in the Yallow Shrine and being forced to kill her best friend Klias Teradine in self-defense have left her traumatized and highly cynical.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Although a mercenary, Ty prioritizes the safety of others over getting paid. When hired to bring a gundark in alive to be sold, she kills it instead to save Drewen's life.
    • While she is a monster hunter, she has a very strong disdain for poachers. When she is hired to kill a Gretalax that is allegedly terrorizing a settlement, she is absolutely furious when she learns that the settlers who hired her were actually poachers and that the Greta was attacking because they were holding its mate captive.
    • Normally, she specifically hunts monsters and not people. However, in Saber for Hire, when she learns that the Nihil are kidnapping Force-sensitive children from a settlement, she's willing to bend her definition of "monster".
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: She lost part of one her head tendrils and has a scar over her left eye.
  • Heads or Tails?: Made many of her decisions throwing verazeen stones, assigning her options to the sun and moon sides and going with the choice that had the most sides up. After her hunt on Loreth, Ty decided to start making her own decisions and passed the stones onto Drewen.
  • Hunter of Monsters: She's a monster hunter, and even has her own book about one of her adventures in hunting one down.
  • Incompletely Trained: Due to leaving the Order and never finishing her training, Ty often has trouble concentrating enough to utilize the Force effectively, particularly in high-stress situations.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She is typically abrasive, has little patience for others, and is an aggressive fighter. However, she has a soft spot for children and will help out others if they are in a bad situation even if there is no monetary gain from it.
  • Laser Blade: She wields a pink-bladed lightsaber. The hilt is notable for having four spikes around the emitter which she can use for stabbing even when the blade is turned off or in one case to plunge into the side of a cliff and stop her fall.
  • Mage Marksman: Unlike a lot of Jedi for her time, she uses a blaster alongside her lightsaber.
  • Master-Apprentice Chain: She was the apprentice of Master Cibaba, who was apprenticed to Coron Solstus, who was in turn apprenticed to Sula Badani and then Rok Buran after Sula's death.
  • Omniglot: She is able to pick up languages very easily and can get by in new ones after just a few days of exposure.
  • Pink Is Feminine: Has dark pink eyes and a pink-bladed lightsaber.
  • Safety in Indifference: Trys to protect herself from getting hurt by not getting close to anyone and working alone. It often doesn't work, as she becomes attached to people on her jobs and prioritizes their safety first.
  • The Snark Knight: Holds most people in disdain, but also herself, often criticizing herself for not being skilled enough in certain situations and being haunted by her past failues.
  • Sorry, I'm Gay: When she and Elzar go into a Force meld, she accidentally sees a memory of him and Avar during their time as padawans who were less interested in keeping to the Order's celibacy policy. He senses her attraction, which Ty quickly lets him know is not directed towards him but Avar, much to Elzar's disappointment.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: As a padawan she was a follower of the rules and tried to get Klias to do the same, but as an adult she is far more cynical and disdainful of the Jedi.

    Zeen Mrala

Zeen Mrala

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/17118329918151490211780354508101.jpg

Species: Mikkian

A young disciple in the Elders of the Path. Forced to hide her Force-sensitivity due to the beliefs of her religion, she revealed her powers when the Nihil attacked her commune on Trymant IV.

  • Audience Surrogate: With Lula in the first arc of The High Republic Adventures. While Lula is already a Jedi, Zeen isn't a Jedi but wants to be one.
  • Closest Thing We Got: The Jedi have determined that she's too old to be trained as a Jedi, though they'll still give her training on how to use the Force.
  • Guns Akimbo: Since she does not have a lightsaber, Zeen uses two blasters to defend herself.
  • Hiding Behind the Language Barrier: In Phase III, she's learned how to speak Aloxian, which allows her to have private conversations with Qort. However, 5A-G3 is able to read into their conversation, as he also understands Aloxian.
  • I Will Find You: With Lula, Farzala and Torban reported missing in the aftermath of Starlight Beacon's destruction, she holds on to hope that they are still alive, especially Lula. Not even being officially listed as dead a year later is enough to deter her hopes.
  • Mind over Matter: Lula notes that Zeen has a natural talent for telekinesis, and her first overt act with the Force after suppressing it for much of her life was to slow down debris from the Great Disaster.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Unlike previous Mikkian characters, Zeen has visible, pointed ears, with other Mikkians having no ears at all and using their head tentacles to hear instead. A whole group of Mikkians with ears later showed up in the Phase III run of The High Republic Adventures, making it unclear if this is a different subspecies or a specific design choice for the species in the comic.
  • Parental Abandonment: The Elders of the Path place great importance on communal living and not paternal bonds, with the relationship between Elders and the younger Acolytes substituting for that bond. Zeen's parents left early in her life to join another commune of the Path and she has not seen them since.
  • Pink Is Feminine: She's a girl and she has reddish pink skin.
  • Psychic Strangle: Out of anger over Krix siding with the Nihil and attacking her ship because he thought she was a Jedi, she tries to Force-choke him but is stopped by Lula.
  • Ship Tease: Throughout the series it becomes clear that more than just feelings of friendship are developing between her and Lula. Before she departs for a mission to Corellia, Zeen affirms her feelings for Lula and the two resolve to sort it out once they reunite.
  • Tall Poppy Syndrome: During her time with the Elders of the Path, she was forced to hide her Force-sensitivity. Her decision to follow the Jedi was a means to avoid hiding her true self. Her "No More Holding Back" Speech to Krix while he's being interrogated best exemplifies how far she's come.
Zeen: I'm so, so glad I found people who love me for who I am and not for some version of myself that had to be lesser to make them comfortable.
  • Teen Idol: Admits that she sometimes dreamed of becoming one, and briefly gets to live out this fantasy during the mission to Corellia when a fake celebrity is needed for an undercover operation.

    Ruusstha Vidyarvrikt

Ruusstha Vidyarvrikt

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ruusstha_vidyarvrikt_sw.png

Species: Ongree

Homeworld: Dalna

Appearances: Trail of Shadowsnote

An elderly nurserymaid that served the Jedi Order.

  • Creepy Good: Despite being best known as a really terrifying caretaker, she's still a servant of the Jedi Order.
  • Cthulhumanoid: She has much more pronounced face tentacles than most Ongree.
  • Ironic Nursery Tune: She sang a rather creepy one to Jedi younglings to get them to behave. Unfortunately, this rhyme starts to become relevant to Emerick and Stellan as adults when they are up against the Great Leveler. This is because the Leveler is one of the Nameless, and "shrii-ka-rai" (which means "Eater of the Force") is one of the names given to them. Said nursery rhyme is also a Madness Mantra from Azlin Rell, a Jedi Knight who was driven insane by the Nameless during the Night of Sorrow.
    Shrii ka rai ka rai
We're coming to take you away
    Shrii ka rai ka rai
We're coming to take you away
    They'll do what they can
and they'll do what they must
but when they find you all you'll be is dust.
  • Mysterious Past: From what was known about her, she was an elderly Ongree from Dalna, and the Jedi have suspiciously erased records on parts of Dalna's history. The nursery rhyme she sings to put the younglings sleep references the Nameless, and the Path of the Open Hand - an anti-Jedi cult that operated on Dalna - weaponized the Nameless against the Jedi 150 years before the Great Disaster. The nursery rhyme is also the Madness Mantra of a Jedi who was driven insane by the Nameless during the Battle of Dalna.
  • Nightmare Face: Ongree, having upside-down faces, tend to look strange at best. Vidyarvrikt, having red eyes, much longer face tentacles and Scary Teeth, looks like a Lovecraftian nightmare. These features get exaggerated to horrifying effect when Emerick experiences hallucinations of her while in the presence of the Nameless.
  • Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: She's a creepy-looking nursemaid who two Jedi remember for singing a really creepy nursery rhyme to get them to behave as children. These memories of her and her nursery rhyme resurface once Emerick and Stellan start coming across the Great Leveler's handiwork and being exposed to other members of its species.
  • Posthumous Character: She passed away a decade before The High Republic Phase 1, being recalled by Emerick Caphtor, Stellan Gios and Ty Yorrick.
