Council Members

    Char-Ryl-Roy

Master Char-Ryl-Roy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/char_ryl_roy_sw.png

Species: Cerean

Appearances: Convergence | Cataclysm

A member of the Jedi Council and friend of Master Creighton Sun. He and his Padawan Enya Keen were part of a mission to the worlds of Eiram and E'ronoh that sought to end the two planet's war, but soon found that the situation there was being inflamed by outside factions seeking to disrupt the Galactic Frontier.

  • A Father to His Men: He is very open and warm to Enya and anyone who comes under his command. During the Battle of Dalna, Roy finds the lightsabers of several slain Jedi and is able to immediately identify who they belong to, suggesting he has memorized the lightsabers of a number of individuals in the Order. Each one causes him to stop in grief and mourn the fallen.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: He is attacked by one of the Nameless while issuing orders during the Battle of Dalna. His last words over the comms were asking those who are listening to tell Enya something, but the link is cut before he can say what he wished her to know.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a green lightsaber.
  • The Mentor: To Enya, his Padawan. Sadly he falls victim to Mentor Occupational Hazard during the Battle of Dalna.
  • Rubber-Forehead Aliens: He is a Cerean and has a long conical head, which gets lampshaded by Enya when she wonders how he has no trouble getting through doorways. However, this causes him a bit of an issue with disguising himself when needed and taking cover during battle.
  • Taken for Granite: One of several Jedi slain by the Nameless during the Battle of Dalna, being turned to ashen stone by it feeding off the Force within him.

    Xinith Tarl

Master Xinith Tarl

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1000001677_515459.png

Species: Bith

Appearances: The Battle of Jedha | The Nameless Terrornote

A member of the Jedi Council, Tarl led a Pathfinder team aboard the Witherbloom.

  • Big Damn Heroes: After receiving a distress call from Jedha, Tarl leads a taskforce of Jedi to the world and saves Creighton Sun and Aida Forte from being killed in the crossfire between Eiram and E'ronoh's forces before helping Creighton bring an end to the battle.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: As a powerful Jedi Master and member of the Council, Xarl could have helped solve many of the issues faced during The Nameless Terror had she not been badly injured when the Witherbloom crashed, forcing the rest of the team to care for her injuries and protect her while she recovered. However, given that the biggest problems the team faced in this story were the titular creatures (who are notably dangerous to Jedi of all ranks), it's questionable how much help she could have given even if she wasn't injured.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard yellow-bladed lightsaber.
  • Mind over Matter: Alongside the rest of the Jedi she brought to Jedha, they use the Force together to stop all the blaster bolts fired by both sides while Creighton convinces the two sides to stand down.
  • Scars Are Forever: She has two scars running over her right eye.

    Gluth Andoi

Master Gluth Andoi

Species: Morseerian

Appearances: Path of Vengeance

A member of the Jedi Council who participated in the Battle of Dalna against the Path of the Open Hand.

  • Cruel and Unusual Death: During the Night of Sorrows, he not only gets one of his arms shot off by the Path's hidden enforcer droids, he's also one of the many Jedi fed on by the Leveler while suffering nightmarish hallucinations.
  • Gas Mask Long Coat: As a Morseerian, he wears a respirator mask. As a Jedi, he wears long robes.
  • Mauve Shirt: He's given just enough personality before and during the Night of Sorrow before the Leveler kills him, proving that the Nameless are a serious threat to even Jedi Council members.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Morseerians like Master Andoi have four arms, and he wields four lightsabers.

    Ela Sutan

Master Ela Sutan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ela_sutan_sw.png

Species: Caamasi

Appearances: Yodanote  | The Blade | Path of Vengeance | Cataclysm

A senior member of the Jedi Council. She helped guide the Order's response to the Path of the Open Hand's actions and fought in the Battle of Dalna.

  • Flat Character: She appears as a supporting character throughout Phase II but never has much of her personality or history established beyond being a member of the Jedi Council.
  • Humanoid Alien: She is a Caamasi, with her fur covered body, long pointed ears, and snout marking her as distinctly non-human but with a humanoid body type.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: A gentle one, but she calls out Pra-Tre Veter when he was a newer member of the Council for his dismissiveness towards the Scalvi's call for help, reminding him that all life was luminous and they must respond.

    Pre-Tre Veter

Master Pre-Tre Veter

Jedi Masters

    Zallah Macri

Jedi Master Zallah Macri

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zallah_macri_sw.png

Species: Soikan

Appearances: Path of Deceit

"Nothing in the galaxy is left to chance, Padawan. The Force guides and balances all."

A Jedi Master who was in charge of the Jedi outpost on Haileap and was the Master of Kevmo Zink. When the cult known as the Path of the Open Hand reportedly stole a Force artifact called the Rod of Seasons from Hynestia Prime, she and Kevmo traced the cult to the planet Dalna.

  • Hates Being Touched: Downplayed and never really focused on, but when Kevmo is listing the ways he and Zallah are the opposite of each other, one difference is how he is very tactile while Zallah dislikes being touched by others.
  • I Just Knew: She and Kevmo were supposed to depart from Amloch after assisting a stranded Republic scout team there, but Zallah sensed something amiss and delayed a day. This resulted in them being nearby to hear Azlin Rell's call for assistance on Tiikae, and both assume this was as the Force willed and why Zallah knew to delay returning to Port Haileap.
  • Laser Blade: Wielded a standard blue-bladed lightsaber.
  • The Mentor: She was Kevmo Mink's Jedi Master.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: The Great Leveler feeds on Zallah right after it hatches before Kevmo's eyes. Unfortunately, Kevmo suffers the same fate himself not long afterward.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: She is the Blue to her apprentice Kevmo's Red. She is very stoic, tends to be on the quieter side, and presents an air of authority, while Kevmo is awkward, excitable, and tends to speak too much and overwhelm people. This is part of why she chose him as an apprentice, so that she could help him temper his personality with discipline while also providing a friendlier face for the duo on missions.
  • Rubber-Forehead Alien: She is a Soikan, with her pointed ears and lilac skin tone being the only outward things separating her from looking human.
  • The Stoic: Unlike Kevmo, who tends to wear his heart on his sleeve, Zallah is very emotionally reserved, with Mardo Ro's first impression of her is that Zallah seems made from ice. That is until she experiences terror in the last moments of her life due to Nameless-induced Force hallucinations.
  • Taken for Granite: When confronting the Mother, she becomes the very first victim of the newly-hatched Great Leveler, having the Force drained from her before turning to dust.
  • When She Smiles: Marda Ro has a very negative impression of her as being icy until Zallah gives her a kind smile and accepts her invitation to visit the Path's compound, which immediately improves Marda's view of her.

    Porter Engle

Jedi Master Porter Engle

See his character entry under the Jedi Master (232 BBY) section on the High Republic Era Jedi page.

    Barash Silvain

Jedi Master Barash Silvain

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/barash_silvain_sw.png

Species: Kage

Appearances: The Blade

A Jedi Master and Porter Engle's bond sister, who fought side by side 150 years before the Great Disaster.

  • Call-Forward: The Barash Vow was named after her. This vow came as a result of her temporarily withdrawing from Jedi activity due to inadvertently exacerbating the conflict on Gansevor as a result of not heeding the Force's warnings and falling for lies between both sides of the war.
  • Family of Choice: She and Porter consider each other siblings despite neither being related by blood.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: She's the responsible to Porter's downplayed foolish, as she has to bail Porter out of trouble when it finds him.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: As she tries to diplomatically resolve the conflict on Gansevor, she tries to help out both sides, not realizing that both gave their fair share of lies and relying only on her personal experience over the Force's warnings. This is what leads her to withdrawing from Jedi activity and starting what later became known as the Barash Vow.
  • Knight Errant: She and Porter wandered the galaxy to serve as independent peacekeepers. After they resolve the conflict on Gansevor at great cost, she parts ways with Porter to follow her own path.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard green-bladed lightsaber.
  • Mayfly–December Friendship: Discussed regarding her siblingship with Porter Engle. As he is an Ikkrukian, she notes he has a much longer lifespan than her and she won't always be around to bail him out of trouble, and as the presence of the Barash Vow named after her shows, Porter ultimately outlived her by Phase I.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: She's noticeably paler than most Kage seen before her and has distinctive green eyes. This is enough that she could easily pass for a white platinum-blonde human (and it doesn't help that in some promotional artwork, her skin is almost more Caucasian-looking).
  • Photographic Memory: According to her, Kage have very retentive memory, enough that she actually remembers her original family despite being inducted into the Order as a child (however, she also joined the Order at a slightly later age than normal).
  • Posthumous Character: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia reveals that the Barash Vow got its name after her death, and as the Vow was already named in Into the Dark, she died long before the events of Phase I.

    Leebon

Jedi Master Leebon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leebon_sw.png

Species: Selonian

Appearances: The High Republic (2022) | Path of Vengeancenote

A Jedi Master stationed in Jedha City with her Padawan Matthea Cathley, and the Order's representative on the Convocation.

  • Badass in Distress: When she and Oliviah decide to protect the fallen Last Guardian (which secretly houses the Rod of Daybreak), she is taken prisoner by a disguised Herald and Yana Ro.
  • Canon Immigrant: She is a Selonian, a species of humanoid mustelids that was prominently featured in The Corellian Trilogy in Legends.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard green-bladed lightsaber.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: She meets her end when the Herald feeds her to the Leveler during the Battle of Jedha. This predictably causes Matty some distress, especially since she didn't sense Leebon becoming one with the Force.
  • Oh, Crap!: She has a very fearful reaction when the Herald decides to use her as a guinea pig for the Great Leveler.
  • Secret-Keeper: Due to being the head Jedi stationed on Jedha, only she is aware that beneath the Last Guardian is a secret Jedi vault that houses powerful relics, including the Rod of Daybreak.
  • Taken for Granite: After being captured by the Herald and Yana Ro, the former decides to test the Great Leveler on her, reducing her to a terrified husk.

    Silandra Sho

Jedi Master Silandra Sho

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/silandra_sho_sw.png

Species: Human

Voiced by: Catherine Ho

A Jedi Master who led a team of Republic Pathfinders aboard the Umberfall, which included her Padawan Rooper Nitani.

  • Bold Explorer: As a Pathfinder leader, one of her tasks is to lead expeditions into uncharted worlds in the Outer Rim.
  • Heroic BSoD: She experiences a breakdown in the Force when she gets too close to the Great Leveler, which the Path of the Open Hand unleashed into Jedha City to cause chaos. She manages to get out of it (and avoid becoming another one of the Leveler's meals) with P3-7A's intervention, but is left incredibly shaken.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a blue-bladed lightsaber, which slots into her shield and can power it.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: Her first Padawan, Peleth, perished on a dangerous mission, and Sho does not talk about it often. It took some time for her to first mention the incident to Rooper, with Sho simply noting that she had a difficult time letting go of her attachment to her previous Padawan and that she had learned much while teaching her. Rooper decides to respect the fact Sho is clearly still dealing with issues from her loss and does not ask any further questions.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: She prefers to break out her shield before drawing her lightsaber, believing that a Jedi's duty is to protect first and fight second. This shield also happens to be a cultural artifact the Jedi, with Silandra having inherited it from her master after passing trials. After Rooper passes her trials, Silandra passes the shield over to her.
  • The Mentor: She has had two Padawans, Peleth and Rooper. Sadly, Peleth perished on a mission while still in training, and this has affected Sho's training methods as she is more protective and seeks to ensure that Rooper is always adequately prepared for any situation.
  • Mind over Matter: She is quite adept at utilizing the Force to move objects, such as guiding her shield when throwing it or holding it aloft in defense.
  • Parental Substitute: As Rooper does not remember her own family, she regards Silandra as the closest thing to a parent she has ever had and seeks to make her proud.
  • Passing the Torch: Subverted in that she doesn't necessarily stop being a Jedi. After Rooper passes her final trial, Silandra passes the shield of the Jedi over to her, with the expectation that Rooper will eventually do the same with her Padawan.
  • Pilgrimage: Goes on one to Jedha in The Battle of Jedha, which enables her take place in the titular battle when it begins.
  • The Soft-Hearted Warrior: While she may be one of the Jedi Order's greatest warriors of her era, Silandra's focus is on defense and she takes the time to understand and connect with those she defends in order to understand who and what she is fighting for better.
  • Trickster Mentor: In "Shield of the Jedi" (taking place a few years after the end of Phase II), she's left her shield in the hands of farmers living out in Batuu's wilds, with the intent that Rooper would go looking for it as part of a test. What she didn't tell anyone was that she was planning on having a supposedly-mythical creature steal it as a complicated way of subtly teaching Rooper one more lesson about looking at a conflict from multiple angles.

    Rok Buran

Jedi Master Rok Buran

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rok_buran_sw.png

Species: Human

A Jedi Master who went missing along with his Pathfinder team during an expedition to the planet Gloam.

  • Bold Explorer: During the mission to Gloam, he was the leader of Republic Pathfinder Team Two-Five-Two. After his team is wiped out on Gloam, he is reassigned to the Witherbloom's Pathfinder team.
  • Dead Sidekick: When Silandra Sho and Rooper Nitani find him, they learn that his Padawan Maliq was among the casualties.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a standard green-bladed lightsaber.
  • The Mentor: Until the mission to Gloam, he was Maliq's master. After Master Sula Badani sacrifices herself to distract the Nameless inside the Bonecrusher, Rok takes up her Padawan Coron Solstus as his new apprentice.
  • My Greatest Failure: Following being rescued from Gloam and sent with another Pathfinder team to Dalna, he blames himself for the deaths of Maliq and his Pathfinder team. When it seems Coron Solstus is in danger of being killed by the Nameless, he feels like he's going to cause another Padawan's death.
  • Sole Survivor: When Silandra Sho and Rooper Nitani find him on Gloam, they learn from him that he was the only survivor of his Pathfinder team, and the casualties included his Padawan Maliq.
  • Weirdness Magnet: Rok has had two missions back-to-back dealing with paranormal terrors. First, he deals with Katikoot zombies on Gloam, and then on another planet, he has to deal with the Nameless.

    Creighton Sun

Jedi Master Creighton Sun

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/creighton_sun_sw.png

Species: Human

Voiced by: Raphael Corkhill

A Jedi Master who travelled aboard the Valiant to assist with relief mission to the Eiram system. Due to this, he becomes embroiled in the Forever War affecting the system and the machinations of the Path of the Open Hand.

  • Cynic–Idealist Duo: With Aida Forte. He often takes a cynical view of events and missions, while she counters with more optimistic interpretations of things.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Because of his more traditional approaches to being a Jedi, he has a reputation for being unsociable. However, if one gets to know him, he can show his softer side.
  • Experienced Protagonist: He is a highly experienced Jedi Master and serves as one of the primary protagonists of Phase II.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: With Aida, who is a Knight a few decades younger than him.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Tends to take a fairly cynical viewpoint, such as believing that the peace treaty between Eiram and E'ronoh might not last despite all the efforts put into it due to the lingering resentment and hatred between the two sides. Yet this never stops him from carrying forward with his missions as a Jedi.
Creighton: As stars are born and die, so does time move forward. Relentlessly so. And yet we fight. We will never stop fighting for the light and life in this galaxy.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a blue cross-guarded lightsaber.
  • Meaningful Name: A surname like "Sun" seems ironic given his exterior personality, but it reflects what he actually is like once you get to know him.
  • The Mentor: Takes over as Enya's new master following Char-Ryl-Roy's death during the Night of Sorrow.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Following the Night of Sorrow, he recommends to Yoda that they classify the records relating to the Jedi who were assaulted by the mysterious creatures the Path of the Open Hand had, as both were worried what might happen if word got out about creatures that could drain the Force from individuals and for which the Jedi had no answer to fighting. Unfortunately, while Creighton says he intends to continue investigating and discover the truth, it seems nothing came of that as when Marchion Ro unleashes the Nameless again 150 years later, the Jedi are caught completely off-guard and Yoda disappeared on his own mission, meaning he could not explain what was happening to the rest of the Order.
  • Not So Above It All: Under his seemingly unsocial exterior, he can show a sense of humor when he opens up.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: Manages to end the Battle of Jedha with an impassioned speech to both sides that convinces the soldiers that they have been tricked and manipulated into continuing the Forever War and not to give up on the hope for peace.

    Orin Darhga

Jedi Master Orin Darhga

Species: Human

Appearances: Cataclysm

A Jedi Master who accompanied Gella Nattai to question Axel Greylark while he was imprisoned on Pipyyr.

  • Big Guy Fatality Syndrome: While he and Gella are investigating Dalna, he is poisoned by Binnot and dies an agonizing death, becoming the first Jedi casualty in Cataclysm.
  • Brave Scot: In the audio book, he's given a thick Scottish accent to accompany his bold nature.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: On the surface, he's a large and jovial man who has a knack for making bad puns. He's also an insightful Jedi Master who uses this image to get people to underestimate him.
  • Noodle Incident: According to him, he learned that Toilet Humor is "an invitation to a duel" on Trandosha.

    Sula Badani

Jedi Master Sula Badani

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sula_badani_sw.png

Species: Human

Appearances: The Nameless Terrornote

The Jedi leader of a Pathfinder team aboard the Witherbloom and the master of Padawan Coron Solstus.

  • An Arm and a Leg: While entranced by the Nameless, her left arm gets calcified before crumbling to dust. Pako's Heroic Sacrifice is what keeps this encounter from being fatal.
  • Bold Explorer: She was the leader of the Witherbloom's Republic Pathfinder team.
  • Cheated Death, Died Anyway: She survives one direct encounter with the Nameless at the cost of her left arm and Pako's life, only to be killed by the Nameless moments later when she voluntarily stays behind to stall them.
  • Face Death with Dignity: In contrast to her first direct encounter with the Nameless, which cost her left arm and Pako's life, she faces down a group of Nameless to buy time for her allies to escape. In contrast with other Jedi who died in abject terror against the Nameless, Sula disintegrates with a look of defiance despite being subject to the same horrifying hallucinations.
  • Laser Blade: She wields a yellow lightsaber.
  • Master-Apprentice Chain: She was the mentor of Coron Solstus, who then mentored Cibaba, who then mentored Ty Yorrick. Rok Buran would take over training Coron after her death, putting him on the chain too.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: She's the sole Jedi in The Nameless Terror to have a Padawan at the time, and is the sole casualty among them when she gives her life against the Nameless.
  • Reduced to Dust: Instead of being reduced to a stone-like husk with a look of terror on her face, Sula merely disintegrates in the Nameless's presence when she chooses to distract them.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: She volunteers to distract the Nameless while the rest of the Witherbloom crew escapes so the Nameless don't follow them out of the soon-to-self-destruct Bonecrusher, knowing full well that the creatures will kill her with their presence alone, but they'll go along with her afterward.
Sula: Oh no you don't. Not this time. Today, no one else dies. No...one...else...

    Ravna Abronsa

Jedi Master Ravna Abronsa

Species: Human

Appearances: The Edge of Balance: Precedentnote

The Jedi Master of Arkoff during the Great Hyperspace Rush.

  • Dissonant Serenity: She always manages to keep calm under pressure, even as she's overwhelmed by Path of the Open cultists during the Battle of Dalna. She keeps her composure even as she's turned to dust by one of the Nameless (who are known to psychologically break Jedi down as they kill them).
  • Eccentric Mentor: She frequently teases Arkoff for his impulsiveness.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: She gets turned to dust by one of the Nameless during the Battle of Dalna. While Arkoff doesn't sense her becoming one with the Force, the fact that he found her lightsaber distanced from her was his sign that she was no longer around (as she told him losing a lightsaber means a Jedi is dead).
  • Never Mess with Granny: She's an old woman, but she's also a skilled Jedi Master.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: She is an elderly, female human Jedi Master with a Wookiee Padawan and who gets killed by a Nameless. One would get the impression she's an earlier generation version of Nib Assek.

    Kaktorf

Jedi Master Kaktorf

A Jedi Master stationed at the Jedi Temple on Takodona Kaktorf oversaw the training of the initiates there and was the master of Sav Malagán.

  • Anti-Mentor: His traditional and stuffy Jedi style clashes with Sav's more independent, reckless, and improvisational nature. Kaktorf views her as impatient and sloppy, while she finds him rigid and restricting, unable to recognize that some of her successes aren't actually violating the spirit of the Jedi code. He realizes they are not a good pairing and he is the wrong teacher for her, handing his duties off to Tera Sinube who Kaktorf hopes will be a better fit.
  • Younger Than They Look: Sav and others frequently refer to him as an ancient Jedi who is hundreds or thousands of years old, and given his wrinkled appearance and crotchety demeanor one might actually think that. He protests in the final issue when overhearing this that he is actually only forty-six.

    Yaddle

Jedi Master Yaddle

See her entry on the Jedi Council character page.

Jedi Knights

    Azlin Rell (Major Spoiler Warning)

Jedi Knight Azlin Rell

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/azlin_rell_sw.png
Circa 382 BBY

Species: Human

A humble and modest Jedi Knight who, alongside his astromech droid C-9, went on a service tour of the Outer Rim and frontier. He was also a friend of the Wookiee Jedi, Arkoff. However, during the Battle of Dalna, he experienced terror unlike any other when he encountered the creatures known as the Nameless, driving him to madness and leaving the Jedi Order.

  • Badass Bookworm: He believes that getting the most ideal outcome requires doing some research on the situation beforehand. After Kevmo Zink and Zallah Macri are killed investigating an artifact theft on Dalna, Azlin does some research on the stolen artifact in question (the Rod of Seasons) to get a lead, only for official reports to mention that Barnabas Vim found a stone instead. This leads him to the realization that the Rod of Seasons has a shard of the Echo Stone.
  • Better with Non-Human Company: He notably prefers to be around droids over people.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Played with. When he returns to the Jedi Temple 150 years after the Battle of Dalna, he's been branded an apostate for embracing the Dark Side, something he thinks was necessary to combat the Nameless's effects on Force users. However, he asks for Yoda's help further rehabilitating him, with the Council hoping this will give them a lead on the Nameless. Unfortunately, Azlin's still fairly insane, and is willing to murder lots of innocent people to ensure that no one else finds Planet X and experiences the terrors he has.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Not even the work of the Order's best healers at the Grava Monastery are able to undo the mental damage the Nameless caused to him, to the point that even if he is aware that he's hallucinating, he still sees his friends as indescribable abominations and is still losing hope. One day, he simply disappeared from the Monastery without a trace. Yoda eventually found him alive 150 years later, but having embraced the Dark Side.
  • Due to the Dead: At the beginning Quest of the Jedi, Azlin laments how he was unable to collect Zallah and Kevmo's lightsabers when he found their remains (as they had been claimed by the Path of the Open Hand), and thus cannot add their crystals to the Kyber Arch to memorialize them.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He actually made his first appearance in Midnight Horizon as a mysterious stranger singing the "Shrii ka ria" nursery rhyme that Yoda brought with him to Corellia, with his identity being a mystery at the time, and his existence was alluded to by Doctor Uttersond - who had gotten a piece of his journal - in the last issue of Trail of Shadows. It wouldn't be until Phase III's Shadows of Starlight that his identity would be revealed.
  • The Empath: One of his notable Force abilities was to sense emotions tied to locations. When he comes to Dalna investigating the disappearances of Zallah Macri and Kevmo Zink, he feels the extreme terror they felt when the Leveler consumed the Force in them.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: While researching Barnabas Vim's mission to Angcord a century ago (which reports that he found a Force-amplifying crystal called the Echo Stone, and not a rod as Kevmo and Zallah had previously reported), he comes to the realization that the Rod of Seasons is powered by a shard of the Echo Stone.
  • Eye Scream: In his madness, Azlin gouged out his own eyes to block out the visual hallucinations triggered by the Nameless. He has since replaced them with a pair of cybernetic goggles that he can easily remove to show his empty sockets.
  • Fallen Hero: Once Azlin was a humble and heroic Knight, but his fall to the Dark Side made him manipulative and utterly convinced that only he and no one else has the correct solutions to dealing with the Nameless.
  • Freak Out: Suffers an extended one during and after the Battle of Dalna as a result of the Mind Rape the Nameless inflicted upon him. Azlin never recovers and his personality shifts from a caring Knight to a ruthless Dark Sider.
  • Humble Hero: Azlin tries to avoid taking pride in his accomplishments, as he feels he's just doing what is required of him.
  • Insanity Immunity: He gave into the Dark Side of the Force explicitly to ward off the hallucinations of the Nameless.
  • Laser Blade: He wields a pale blue lightsaber that he keeps in a holster.
  • Long-Lived: Shadows of Starlight reveals that he is still alive during the Nihil crisis, making him at least 170 years old, which is abnormally long for humans in the Star Wars franchise. The Eye of Darkness confirms that he learned to artificially extend his life while studying the Nameless, but was consumed by the Dark Side as a result.
  • Madness Mantra: The "Shrii ka rai" nursery rhyme originated from him, having become mentally scarred by the Nameless after the Battle of Dalna. Even 150 years later, he still hears their song in his head.
  • Necessarily Evil: He feels embracing the Dark Side was the only way to stave off the madness inflicted on him by the Nameless, and he insists he's exactly the help the Jedi need to defeat the Nameless. Unfortunately, while he has become more lucid, he's become a lot more amoral.
Azlin Rell: What I do know, what I have always known, is that I made the sacrifice none of you could. I embraced the dark side. I did it for us.
  • Robot Buddy: Before his descent into madness, he was frequently accompanied by his astromech droid, C-9.
  • Sanity Slippage: While he survives the Battle of Dalna, he's come out the most scarred of the Jedi who survived being around the Nameless. Even when he's no longer around the Nameless and being hospitalized in an asylum for Force users, he's still experiencing nightmarish hallucinations. Some time after, he disappeared to parts unknown before being rediscovered over 150 years later by Yoda. In that time he's been gone, he's succumbed to the Dark Side in his attempts to study the Nameless.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: He used to wear rather simple Jedi robes. By the time of the fall of Starlight Beacon, he's still wearing the robes of High Republic era Jedi, but they are now stained in blood to symbolize how he's been consumed by the darkness.
  • Sudden Sequel Heel Syndrome: He's shown to still be alive in Phase III, but has since fallen to the Dark Side to come to terms with the madness inflicted by the Nameless.
  • The Unfettered: As he studied the Nameless, he was consumed by the Dark Side and became willing to commit horrific actions if it meant saving the Jedi Order and all Force-users from the Nameless.
Azlin Rell: I scraped the galaxy to the bone searching for information about the Nameless. I... hurt people. I killed people if I thought it was necessary. I regret none of it. The Dark Side took much from me, but I consider it a fair bargain, because it gave me time. Time to destroy the Nameless before they kill us all.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk much about his character and storyline without bringing up what happened to him at the end of Phase II and how they are relevant to Phase I and III. The fact that he's still alive in Phase III (150 years after the events of Phase II) is also a major reveal.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Having been driven mad with terror by his encounter with the Nameless on Dalna, he eventually succumbed to the Dark Side to ward off the madness and find a solution to destroying the Nameless, realizing the existential threat they pose to not just the Jedi Order, but all Force-users. Unfortunately, his embrace of the darkness has driven him to ensure that no other Jedi ever experiences the same horrors he has, even going so far as to sabotage a starship and drop it on a city full of innocent people to make sure Yoda doesn't find Planet X. While his fears are understandable given what he's been through (and that Planet X has the same psychological effect on Force Users as the Nameless), they miss the fact that the Nihil are actively weaponizing the creatures he's trying to keep the Jedi away from.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: When Azlin comments to Elzar Mann that he reminds him of himself, it makes Elzar extremely uncomfortable given the mistakes he's made throughout Phase I.

    Vildar Mac

Jedi Knight Vildar Mac

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vildar_mac_sw_1.png

Species: Kiffar

Homeworld: Kiffex

A Kiffar Jedi Knight who was dispatched to Jedha to attend the Convocation after declining a posting on the Togruta front. Haunted by his past traumas and his concern over finding balance in the Force, Vildar finds himself in the middle of a brewing religious conflict in the holy city.

  • Afraid of Their Own Strength: His experiences as a child witnessing the unleashed power of one who followed the Dark Side of the Force has made him wary of utilizing the Force in powerful ways, believing that when those with such powers lose control innocent people suffer and die. His refusal to go to the Togruta front and instead request the posting on Jedha were due to this, as he wanted a calm environment where the rigid rules of the Jedi would be easy to follow.
  • The Apprentice: He was trained by Master Larti, the same Jedi who rescued him as a child on Kiffex.
  • Brutal Honesty: He tends to be very direct in his responses, even if it is rude or insulting.
Matthea: I don't mean to be rude, but are you even listening?
    Vildar: Not really, no.
    Matthea: Oh. That's... direct.
  • Butt-Monkey: Throughout the first few issues of the Phase II comic, Vildar suffers a number of humiliations as a result of his impulsive behavior on Jedha, with it getting to the point Matthea is mentoring him, the exact opposite of the Master-Padawan dynamic. He is also repeatedly tricked and humiliated by Tey Sirrek, first getting his heart stopped by an apparent ancient Dark Side technique that is actually just a knockout pheromone, and having his lightsaber stolen from him without even sensing it.
  • Classical Antihero: Vildar is full of doubts and uncertainty, causing him to fall out of alignment with the Force. That allows things that would normally never occur, like Tey pickpocketing his lightsaber, to happen.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: An exiled member of the Sorcerers of Tund massacred his village on Kiffex when he was four. Vildar was only just saved by Master Larti arriving and stopping the Sorcerer.
  • Fantastic Racism: He struggles to hide his dislike of the Sorcerers of Tund as a result of an exiled member of theirs destroying his home and family. He recognizes that it is unreasonable and unfair to hate the whole group for the actions of an apostate, but the trauma runs deep.
  • Insanity Immunity: He briefly overcomes the Leveler's hallucinations by giving into anger (an emotion which typically fuels the Dark Side of the Force) when Tey is seemingly killed by Yana Ro.
  • Interspecies Romance: After the Battle of Jedha, he and Tey Sirrek (a Sephi) profess their feelings for each other.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a green-bladed lightsaber.
  • Like an Old Married Couple: Despite becoming close allies through their hardships on Jedha, he and Tey continue to throw verbal jabs at each other.
  • The Mentor: After Leebon dies during the Battle of Jedha, he takes up the role of Matthea's master.
  • Not Quite Dead: He's seemingly killed by Tey Sirrek at the end of the first issue of the comic, having been brought down by a Morichro strike. However, he not only survives, it turns out that Tey actually just used a strong pheromone against him.
  • Plagued by Nightmares: He often still dreams of the massacre of his village, from which he will .
  • Psychometry: Similar to future Kiffar Jedi Quinlan Vos, he has the ability to receive visions by simply touching objects. However, this ability has a 9 out of 10 failure rate and it takes a toll on him when it succeeds.
  • Rude Hero, Nice Sidekick: He has a tendency to be rude and short on patience, while Matthea works to smooth over any offense he gives.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Vildar seems to be a one for the Legends version of Quinlan Vos if he were living in the High Republic era. Both are Kiffar Jedi with psychometry abilities and a Dark and Troubled Past, who become allies with a trickster character after being antagonized by them (Vilmarh Grahrk for Quinlan, Tey Sirrek for Vildar), and take a young Twi'lek woman as their apprentice after both endure several hardships.
  • Trauma Button: When he sees a Sorcerer of Tund in the streets of Jedha, he activates his lightsaber in a panic.

    Oliviah Zeveron

Jedi Knight Oliviah Zeveron

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oliviah_zeveron_sw.png

Species: Human

A Jedi Knight who operated on Jedha alongside Master Leebon and Padawan Matthea Cathley. Oliviah questions her assignment on Jedi, viewing the Convocation as a squabbling council that does little good.

  • The Apprentice: She was trained to Knighthood by the Ugnaught Jedi Master Fitan.
  • Beleaguered Bureaucrat: At her post on Jedha, she has the unenviable task of making sure the members of the various Force faiths at the Convocation don't kill each other over their different beliefs.
  • Cain and Abel: Her sister is Elecia Zeveron, the Path of the Open Hand's Mother. After the Jedi Seeker chose Oliviah over Elecia to train, Elecia sought her out with apparent intent to kill her, before climbing up the ranks of the Path and taking their hatred of Force users to radical extremes.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: While they've known each other since operating on Jedha, Matthea is consistently put off by her aloof demeanor. Over the course of Path of Vengeance, she starts to show her softer side.
  • In the Back: The Herald takes her lightsaber and stabs her through the back with it, critically wounding Oliviah and requiring Vildar and Tey to place her in a healing trance to recover.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a green-bladed lightsaber.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: She is confused as to why Master Leebon dragged her to the statue of the Last Guardian when a riot was engulfing the city, and grows even more confused and suspicious when she insists they stay even after the statue is destroyed. Leebon was hiding the existence of secret Jedi vault beneath the statue containing numerous relics.
  • Lotus Position: Is introduced attempting to mediate in this position at the statue of the Last Guardian, only for her tranquility to be disturbed by Leebon contacting her to solve an issue at the Convocation.
  • Mind over Matter: She's exhibited great telekinetic abilities through the Force since she was a child. Unfortunately, this personally earned her the ire of her sister Elecia — who was only skilled at influencing minds — when Oliviah was picked for Jedi training over her. That would eventually lead to Elecia worming her way into the Path of the Open Hand's leadership and leading the cult in a crusade against the Order.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: She serves as the blue Oni to Matty's red during Path of Vengeance. While Matty wears her heart on her sleeve, Oliviah is more aloof.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: When she enters the Convocation chamber and finds two of its members attempting to attack a Yacombe envoy while alleging he serves the Dark Side, Oliviah swiftly intervenes and calls them out for attacking someone who was not even fighting back while also chiding the rest of the envoys for also resorting to violence or doing nothing to stop the attack.

    Gella Nattai

Jedi Knight Gella Nattai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1000000313_996943.jpg

Species: Human

A Jedi Knight in charge of a Republic Pathfinder team to Orvax. She also volunteered to investigate an assassination attempt against the heirs of the Eiram and E'ronoh royal families.

  • The Apprentice: She was trained to Knighthood by Arezi Mar.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: She is assigned to guard Xiri and Phan-tu during their engagement, but Xiri is an experienced soldier while Phan-tu is a crafty Action Survivor. Gella more often works alongside them rather than being a protector.
  • Dual Wielding: She wields two purple-bladed lightsabers.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: With Axel Greylark, with their mission to protect the heirs and investigation into the events on Eiram and E'ronoh breaking down their mistrust of each other. Gella is devastated upon learning he was in league with the assassins and helping cause the chaos.
  • Knight Errant: At the end of Convergence, she requests and is granted permission to become a Wayseeker and sets out to explore the frontier on her own.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever happened with the Pathfinder team on Orvax. The failed expedition there shook Gella's confidence in herself.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: During her mission to the Eiram system, she has a very strained team-up with Supreme Chancellor Greylark's son, Axel, who has a distrust of Jedi, while she sees him as an out-of-touch rich kid who was sent for political gain and who's getting in over his head.

    Aida Forte

Jedi Knight Aida Forte

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aida_forte_sw.png

Species: Kadas'sa'Nikto

Voiced by: Kristen Sieh

A Jedi Knight, who along with Master Creighton Sun, who traveled to Jedha as part of a delegation to oversee a peace summit to end the Forever War between Eiram and E'ronoh.

  • Cynic–Idealist Duo: With Creighton, who tends to be pretty cynical about most things. Aida instead goes for optimistic interpretations of events.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She first appears at the end of Convergence as a lead-in to her major role in The Battle of Jedha.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: With Creighton, who is a couple of decades older than her.
  • Killed Offscreen: She dies from injuries she had received from the Path of the Open Hand's members during the Battle of Dalna, with her death being confirmed to Creighton while in recovery.
  • Laser Blade: She wields a standard green-bladed lightsaber.

Jedi Padawans

    Kevmo Zink

Jedi Padawan Kevmo Zink

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kevmo_zink_sw.png

Species: Pantoran

Homeworld: Hosnian Prime

Appearances: Path of Deceit | Path of Vengeancenote

"I'm looking for my place in the Force. My place here on the frontier, with the Jedi."

The Padawan of Jedi Master Zallah Macri. When the cult known as the Path of the Open Hand steals a Force artifact called the Rod of Seasons from Hynestia Prime, he and Zallah trace the cult to the planet Dalna, where Kevmo forms a strong bond with Path member Marda Ro.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Zallah refers to him as Kev.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Downplayed, but he is easily distractable due to having an overabundance of energy and looking for ways to let it off so he can focus. His Jedi training allows him to clamp down on most of his distracting impulses, but Kevmo still has moments like when flying into Dalna and wanting to divert course to perform rolls in the skip he was flying because the suns and sky looked beautiful in that direction.
  • The Charmer: He attracts a number of admirers and admits that he finds it difficult not to flirt on accident with women, but as a Jedi Kevmo never crosses any lines with them.
  • Commonality Connection: Kevmo notes to Marda that both of them lost their parents very young and were saved and cared for by their respective organizations and beliefs in the Force.
  • Conveniently an Orphan: Both his parents died in an accident before he could really form memories of them. The Jedi Order found Kevmo not long after and brought him to Coruscant for training.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Unlike his master, who was calcified relatively quickly, his petrification is much slower and he's slowly losing his connection to the Force. And he's barely conscious enough to relay his horrific discovery to Marda, and has trouble relaying all of it due to his speech being impaired.
  • Decoy Protagonist: The young Jedi who starred in the young adult novels of Phase I were recurring protagonists who served as central viewpoints characters and all made it through that phase alive. Kev seems set up to be similar, and his relationship with Marda seems set up to be a key story, but his death at the end of Path of Deceit establishes that no protagonist is likely very safe in the second phase of the series.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: He ends up completely petrifying and crumbling to dust in Marda's arms.
  • The Face: He is far more sociable than his Master and is able to ingratiate himself easily with locals on their missions to gain information and important contacts.
  • Facial Markings: Like most Pantorans, he has yellow tattoos on his face. What's notable is that he was given these markings before being taken in by the Jedi, who typically discourage too many cultural attachments.
  • The Hero Dies: He is billed as one of the main protagonists of Path of Deceit, only to be killed by the Great Leveler by the end of the book.
  • I'm Dying, Please Take My MacGuffin: As he's slowly calcifying in Marda's arms, he tries to tell her that not only is the Mother a manipulative fraud like Yana told her, but she is in possession of a living weapon capable of draining the living Force from others. Unfortunately, he isn't able to tell her the last part, and after further manipulation on the Mother's part, she only gets the impression that it was the Jedi's teachings that resulted in his death at the hands of the Leveler.
  • Laser Blade: Wields a yellow-bladed crossguard lightsaber.
  • Nervous Tics: When he needs to let off energy or is having trouble focusing, he tends to bounce his leg.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: He helps save numerous members of the Path from a flood that threatens their compound, and is repaid by those who he saved or whose family and friends he rescued standing by and watching both Kevmo and his master suffer horrific deaths at the hands of the Leveler.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When bonding with Marda, he suggests that she share her philosophy at the Temple of Jedha. After his death by the Leveler, Marda only gets the impression that he ultimately died because of the Jedi's teachings and gives Jedha as a target for the Path of the Open Hand to proselytize.
  • Pent-Up Power Peril: Unlike many Force sensitives, Kevmo doesn't need to reach out for the Force and it overflows through him constantly. Meditation and frequent sparring help him to work his excess energy out so that it doesn't overwhelm him, describing it as making him go from "a sun and more a single pure flame".
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red to his Master Zallah's Blue. He is very excitable, overly talkative, and doesn't give a sense of discipline, while she is calm, speaks little, and presents the perfect image of a stoic Jedi Master. Kevmo was at first confused why she would pick him as a Padawan when they were so different in personality before realizing that is why she did so - both are good at covering for gaps in the other's personality and she helps him learn to be less awkward and overstimulating in interactions with other people.
  • Spanner in the Works: Despite his suggestion of sharing the Path's philosophy on Jedha initially being a case of Nice Job Breaking It, Hero, the Path taking the suggestion from Marda ends up biting the Path due to collision with the Mother's pre-existing plans. The Mother already had instigators in place on Jedha to tarnish the Jedi's reputation in case her efforts in the Eiram system failed, and the Path being there ends up not only putting them in the crossfire of the conflict they instigated, it ends up tarnishing the Path's reputation to the whole galaxy when the Herald is caught inciting riots.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: He and Marda Ro develop strong feelings for each other despite their faiths putting them at odds with each other. It unfortunately ends in tragedy, as Kevmo is killed by the newborn Great Leveler, with his death serving as a catalyst for Marda to start down the path to villainy.
  • Taken for Granite: He becomes the second victim of the Great Leveler, only moments after Zallah had met the same fate.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Despite Marda Ro's open disapproval to the use of the Force, Kevmo still shows interest in trying to learn the cult's perspective, even suggesting that the Path congregate on Jedha so their voices can be heard. Unfortunately, the Mother has no interest in making peace with the Jedi.

    Matthea Cathley

Jedi Padawan Matthea "Matty" Cathley

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/matthea_cathley_sw.png

Species: Twi'lek

The Padawan of Jedi Master Leebon, who is stationed on Jedha alongside Jedi Knight Oliviah Zeveron. When Vildar arrives on Jedha, Matthea greets him and subsequently is drawn into his investigations.

  • All Love Is Unrequited: She has a crush on Oliviah, but is hesitant to open up to her given Oliviah's cold exterior.
  • The Apprentice: She is Leebon's Padawan, although their partnership seems rather hands-off given how busy Leebon is with her duties on the Convocation. Vildar takes over as her Master following Leebon's death during the Battle of Jedha.
  • Bookworm: She is very interested in the lore behind other Force using groups and artifacts. Matty had special permission from Archivist Zumeg at the Temple of the Whills to go through their records for study, and as such is one of the few who has heard of the Rod of Daybreak, although she believed it to be a myth.
  • Break the Cutie: The normally chipper Padawan goes through the wringer in Path of Vengeance. On top of already coming to terms with Leebon's death, she watches a number of Jedi die horrifically on Dalna in the same way while being Mind Raped by the Nameless.
  • Contrasting Sequel Protagonist: Prequel in this case. Unlike Keeve Trennis, who tries to hide her insecurities about being inexperienced for a Knight behind a sense of bravado, Matty is a bubbly Padawan who has a lot of insight about her post on Jedha, to the point that she's teaching Vildar — a Jedi Knight — despite nominally being an apprentice.
  • Genki Girl: She's rather enthusiastic and chipper compared to the rather dour Vildar.
  • Green-Skinned Space Babe: She's a red-skinned Twi'lek woman.
  • Laser Blade: She wields a blue-bladed curved-hilt lightsaber.
  • Motor Mouth: The first thing she does when she meets Vildar Mac on Jedha is bombard him with questions and information. However, she is aware she might talk too much and that it's annoying the people she's talking too.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: She serves as the red Oni to Oliviah Zeveron's blue, with Matty being the more impulsive of the two while Oliviah's more reserved. For bonus points, Matty's red-skinned Twi'lek.
  • Rude Hero, Nice Sidekick: She is nominally Vildar's, as he is a Knight she is assisting, but his rude and impatient nature cause Matty to have to do damage control a few times to smooth things over with people Vildar offended.

    Rooper Nitani

Jedi Padawan Rooper Nitani

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rooper_nitani_sw.png

Species: Human

Homeworld: Rohm

The Padawan of Jedi Master Silandra Sho, Rooper craved adventure and found missions with her master's Pathfinder group painfully routine.

  • Bold Explorer: Like her master, she is also tasked with scouting out uncharted worlds. However, Rooper craves a bit more excitement than Silandra does and is thus more likely to skirt rules to find it.
  • Dual Wielding: Utilizes two blue lightsabers at once. This comes in handy when a group of Path of the Open Hand operatives board Sky's ship and demand Rooper surrender her lightsaber - she hands over one while keeping the second hidden beneath her robes, easily allowing her to turn the tables on the hijackers once they believed she was fully disarmed.
  • Rank Up: The short story Shield of the Jedi features her undergoing her trial on Batuu and Silandra planning on informing the Council to raise her to the rank of Jedi Knight the next day. Rooper's ascension to the rank was later confirmed in the short story Missing Pieces which takes place a few years later.
  • Student–Master Team: Although they are sometimes separated, like when Silandra went to Jedha for her pilgrimage, Rooper typically works alongside her master on missions. Missing Pieces establishes that even after Rooper becomes a Jedi Knight they continue to go on missions together.
  • Thrill Seeker: She finds her work with the Pathfinders too routine for liking, thus she seeks more adventures on the Galactic Frontier. Part of her path to knighthood is growing out of this behavior.

    Enya Keen

Jedi Padawan Enya Keen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1000001678_406614.png

Species: Human

Appears in: Convergence | Cataclysm

The Padawan of Council member Char-Ryl-Roy, Enya accompanied her master to Eiram and E'ronoh to help settle the war between the twin worlds.

  • The Apprentice: She is Char-Ryl-Roy's Padawan, which is considered an honor since typically Jedi Council members are too busy to take apprentices. After his death on Dalna, Enya's training continues under his friend Creighton Sun.
  • Laser Blade: She wields a standard yellow-bladed lightsaber.

Jedi Initiates

    Cippa Tarko

Jedi Initiate Cippa Tarko

Species: Arkanian

Homeworld: Arkanian

Appearances: Cataclysm

A young initiate whose prodigious talent in the Force led to her being assigned to Master Yaddle for special care and training. When Yaddle travelled to Dalna to investigate the Path of the Open Hand, Cippa joined her in the investigation and subsequent Night of Sorrow.

  • Child Prodigy: Cippa is an exceptionally smart and advanced Force-user for her young age, which is why she travels with Yaddle despite being just an initiate and not a full apprentice.
  • Constantly Curious: She is incessantly asking questions and being inquisitive about things. Even Yaddle, one of the most patient and renowned teachers in the Order, finds herself being driven a bit crazy by Cippa's curious nature.
  • Mind Rape: During the Night of Sorrow she is briefly afflicted by the Nameless, and witnesses horrific visions which include her parents screaming in torment.
  • Unstable Powered Child: Her young age and difficulty keeping her emotions completely in check make her somewhat dangerous to those around her with her powers. Yaddle seeks to help her with this issue.
