...on Conrad's head if Alex, <- comma in Shared Play or Curator's Cut, <- comma doesn't...

Acoustic License: ...She can't hear his accusation over the propeller, averting this trope.

^ According to Averted Trope, averted examples should not be used unless the trope is one of the Omnipresent Tropes, a Necessary Weasel trope or an aversion-only trope.

^ As far as I can tell, Acoustic License isn't any of those types, so it shouldn't have an averted example like this one.

  • Gory Discretion Shot: In "Flooded," Olson slams his hammer down on Conrad's head if Alex, in Shared Play or Curator's Cut, doesn't pull the door switch to squish him in time. After Olson kills Conrad and runs off, his body is only shown from the head down.

@ Gilligan's Island

  • In "Our Vines Have Tender Apes," Mrs. Howell grabs the broken halves of a golf club, whacks an intruder's chest, and chases him out of her hut. Later, Ginger knocks out that same guy to escape after being kidnapped.
  • When Gilligan is paranoid that he has a Villainous Lineage due to the statue of a headhunter resembling him, the Professor manages to Scare 'Em Straight by calmly offering to let Gilligan cut off his head if he really is convinced that he's destined to be a headhunter, bringing Gilligan back to his senses.
@ The McKenzie Break
  • Adaptation Name Change: Almost every character has one or both of his names changed (Willi Modherson becomes Willi Schulter, etc.). The exceptions are Colonel Perry, Unger the Tunnel King, and Bantering Baddie Buddies Schmidt and Hochbaer.
  • Tunnel King: Unger is an engineer who is assigned to supervise the POWs' tunnel-digging efforts, although his inexperience shows. In the book, the tunnel collapses prematurely, and in the film, Schulter complains about how slow the digging is going.
@ Cheating Death: Those That Lived
  • Handicapped Badass: Deliberately invoked by Dragon, who breaks one of his arms so he can win while at a disadvantage and have bragging rights.
  • Heartbreak and Ice Cream: Right before the 44th Hunger Games, the girl directly ahead of Platinum in the District 1 ratings goes into a coma after a truly massive ice cream binge when her boyfriend dumps her.
  • I'm a Man; I Can't Help It: While being chased by an alliance made up of girls he sexually harassed, Neon yells out "Why am I being punished? It's not my fault all girls are hot!" This pisses off his pursuers even more.
  • Landslide Election: For the 1st Quarter Quell, the districts are ordered to vote for their tributes and they have there months to do so. District 8's tributes are so hated that the District knows exactly who to vote for and wraps up their voting within one day. District 2 also tries to organize a completely unanimous vote for their most formidable two tributes, but Rook votes for two wimpy pre-teen kids just to annoy Olga.
  • Loophole Abuse: Porter Tripp was born in District Four but lives in District Five. After her victory, the Capitol decides to screw with District Five by giving District Four all of the food and other prizes due to Porter being on the records as one of District Four's citizens.
  • Mistaken for Badass: Odysseuss Toot goes through a Punch-Clock Villain, non-action version of the trope. He serves as the head Gamemaker for multiple games that spiral rapidly out of control. However, each time, President Snow is satisfied with the outcome and seems to think that Toot is The Chessmaster and is doing it all on purpose.
  • Mutual Kill: When Snow sends a Professional Killer after Mascara, the two kill each other after a prolonged fight.
  • Saved by Canon: Snow is predestined to survive being poisoned by Isobel Sparks (District Five's second victor) during the 38th Hunger Games.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: After the bloodbath for the 48th Hunger Games, the girls Neon has sexually harassed team up to castrate and kill him. Neon runs for it while screaming "like a little kid who had just inhaled helium."
  • Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: This happens surprisingly often, although often with some slight variant of the normal formula.
    • Bentley Corduroy spends the 55th Hunger Games running from the Career Alliance and playing rap music. He technically gets three kills when his music starts a lethal avalanche in the finale, but it's a freak accident.
    • Arendellian Spinner III spends the 57th Hunger Games hiding, not sure what's going on. Her one kill is either self-defense or an accident, and after that, all she does is avoid freezing to death longer than anyone else.
    • Spud Munroe wins the 66th Hunger Games simply by avoiding other tributes, save for one who falls through a frozen lake while chasing him. It comes down to Spud and an insane cannibal who defeats Spud in every single possible simulation, so the gamemakers kill the cannibal in an avalanche and reluctantly crown Spud by default. He does throw the boy from Seven over a cliff early on, but this is a complete accident which occurs when he trips as the boy attacks him and accidentally grabs at his jacket, pulling him to the edge of the cliff.
    • Skinner Alceto gets an unusually action-packed version of this in the 69th Hunger Games. He does do a lot of fighting and killing, it's just that absolutely none of it is directed at the other tributes, but he still outlives all of them. He kills thousands of Mutts in the arena, but his only two human kills are a Mercy Kill and a possible accident (a Career steps between him and a Mutt mid-battle). In the climax, he focuses more on trying to kill the biggest and toughest Mutt in history while ignoring his last remaining opponent (who is accidentally killed by the Mutt).

@ Cheating Death: Those That Lived

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Does Snow really think that Head Gamemaker Toot is The Chessmaster who is organizing outstanding games? Or is he merely toying with his subordinate while knowing that Toot is unable to maintain control and is merely The Fool and a Beleaguered Bureaucrat presiding over unorthodox, but acceptable games?
  • Crazy Is Cool: The author really enjoys having eccentric, whacky, or plain crazy tributes dominate the games in impressive ways. Such victors include Dollar (a doomsday prepper who believes in zombies), Pasture (who has a...unique speech pattern and beats to death using discarded shoes twelve tributes who insult her
beats twelve tributes who insult her ), Dragon (who breaks his own arm before the games start for the challenge of playing with a disadvantage), and Chaff (who tries to be a Teacher's Pet and Control Freak well into his games).
  • Fanon Discontinuity: The deaths of various popular victors aren't really dwelled on by many fans, but The Capitol Games happening despite Coin's death is something some people would really like to ignore (although, based on the reviews, fans feel that if the author was insistent on having those games happen, they were written decently well).

[up] Thank you very much.

@ Evil Weapon

  • Berserk has two examples. Though both are wielded by heroic characters and fit more because of their origins then their abilities.

    • Guts's sword has been caked in so much demonic gore it gradually transformed into one. Now existing in both the Physical World and the Astral World, Guts can use it to harm normally intangible evil spirits and even members of the Godhand .

    • The Skull Knight can turn his usually normal looking sword into one by coating the blade in molten Behelits (Artifacts Of Doom used by the Godhand to connect the Abyss and the Physical World), creating a Dimensional Cutter called the Sword of Actuation.

@Magic Is Evil

  • Jujutsu Kaisen

    • While it's not innately hazardous to practice Jujutsu; it runs on The Power of Hate, so everyone who uses it has to be slightly unstable by default. Cursed Energy (Jujutsu's power source) also naturally spawns Cursed Spirits when left on its own, necessitating the existence of Jujutsu Sorcerers in the first place.

For Live-Action TV:

  • The Man from U.N.C.L.E.: Despite Napoleon Solo being an infamous Chick Magnet, most fans ship him with Russian partner Illya Kuryakin instead of any Girl of the Week. In fact, the ship predates the "grandfather" of shipping, Kirk/Spock by quite a bit and is arguably just as influential on the way fans ship things as it. This continued into the 2015 film, where more people found themselves shipping Napoleon/Illya over the canon Illya/Gabby.

Any corrections?

Evil Weapon: Berserk has two examples. Though both are wielded by heroic characters and fit more because of their origins then their abilities.

Grow

  • No Plot? No Problem!: Most games have no plot or at best, have a plot that could fit on a post-it such as "beat the enemy" or "wake the sleeping guy up". This isn't considered a problem since the appeal of these bizarre puzzle games come from their art, creativity and the reflexion needed to complete them.
  • Smart Animal, Inconvenient Instincts: It's hard to pin how smart it is but the green mouse from Grow Maze wears clothes, uses a bag and fits a thief archetype, giving it human-like sentience. Yet it can still be baited by a piece of cheese like a stereotypical mouse would and gets trapped by the Ixal creature that serves as a living mouse trap. Later in the game, the mouse enjoys a hot water pond like an human would.
  • Storybook Episode: As indicated by the title, Grow Cinderella in inspired by the Cinderella tale.
  • Transforming Mecha: Everytime the robot from Grow Island level ups into a new appearence, it gets new fonctions. In all but its last form, it's used as a vehicle.
  • Wreathed in Flames: The last thing the player needs to build in Grow Maze is a dog made of fire.

Kid Paddle: YMMV

  • Critical Research Failure: While Kid and Big Bang are playing a special chess game where the pieces are made of chocolate, Big Bang somehow takes both of Kid's rooks in one move. Taking multiple opponent pieces in a single move is normally impossible due to how Chess works. And it's never indicated that their chocolate Chess game is played differently, aside from the fact that you must eat the opponent's piece when you take them.

Gremlins 2 The New Batch

  • Mouse Trap: One Gremlins hides a mouse trap in the sandwich of one of Clamp's secretary. While we hear her gets hurt after biting into the trapped sandwich offscreen, we don't see happens to her after that.

Hi fellas. It's me again. Let's have another try.

Some character tropes for Despair Island:

  • Adaptational Heroism: While her determination to win remains, she is less harsh and jerkish than in canon, never bullying her teammates and being fairer as The Leader of her team.
  • Mythology Gag: He is actually referenced back in the first season as part of an Easter Egg referencing his actions in the canon fourth season. When the Screaming Gophers discuss what to do to win the talent show, Trent sarcasticalsly suggests just throwing the challenge, leading Katie to say that doing that is something "only a dirt-farmer would do".
  • Adaptational Wimp: Whereas Staci was a bit competent in canon and performed decently in the only episode she competed despite annoying her teammates with her lies, here she is totally useless, which, coupled with her annoying lies, seals her fate, though at least she survives two eliminations before her own.

P.S.: Arivne, why was wrong "along with Trent" when in the previous example you corrected "along with LeShawna" without parentheses?

@ All Cheerleaders Die

  • A Date With Rosie Palms: When Tracy names the three people who've ever made her have orgasms, she begins by saying "Myself, of course."
@ Cheating Death: Those That Lived
  • Moe: Arendellian is a perpetually sunny Cloudcuckoolander who doesn't even realize what the games are and is always have cherry conversations and foot races with her Imaginary Friend.
@ Cheating Death: Those That Lived
  • Break the Haughty: Neon Erg is a budding sexual predator who is willing to kill in the games and is confident that he'll win. Then, all of the girls in the arena team up against him, he only survives by a fluke, and he's reduced to a frazzled alcoholic who's completely terrified by any woman he lays eyes on.
  • Pet the Dog: Dirty Coward and "District traitor" Logger has one (minor) moment of decency and compassion when Fir is on her deathbed. He doesn't join the others in keeping her company as she dies, but he does come by to look at her body and summon someone to take it away, while appearing subdued (although that could partially be discomfort from being around people who hate him).
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Beetee's chapter features a gambler whose sole purpose in life seems to be gorging herself on bread. She's barely able to tear herself away from plates of bread for long enough to bet on or sponsor District 9 tributes, which she does as a way of thanking them for gathering the wheat that makes her favorite food.
@ Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull @ Gilligan's Island

  • Cult Classic: The movie got lukewarm reviews and is largely forgotten, but there are plenty of people who insist that it's criminally underrated and proudly describe it as their favorite film.
@ Seinfeld Ensemble Dark Horse
  • Whenever someone tries to rate all of Jerry's girlfriends or make a list of his best girlfriends, then Laura, Sidra, and Gennice are probably the three who most consistently get favorable placings. Sidra's popularity largely comes from her parting zinger at Jerry as they break up, Gennice's neuroses amuse a lot of people, and Laura won over a lot of fans by having some good chemistry with Jerry, being happy to help the gang's Zany Scheme, and being played by Marlee Matlin.
@ The Mummy Returns
  • He's Just Hiding: Some fans like to think that Shafek (the Mook who is always dodging attacks as a Running Gag) survives being speared, as the last time he's on camera, his eyes are still open and his head seems to still be moving.

For Relationship Writing Fumble (tree with the Legacies example):

  • The Vampire Diaries Universe:
    • The Vampire Diaries: Damon is in love with Elena, but some fans are convinced that he and Bonnie were into each other in later seasons. When they are stuck in the prison world, Bonnie and Damon form a deep bond, with Damon routinely making her breakfast and the two coming off like an old married couple, which even Kai calls them out on. Damon also gets annoyed at Kai flirting with Bonnie, which many saw as him being jealous. He also saves Bonnie from Kai despite knowing that doing so would mean he wouldn't be able to see Elena again and spends a good portion of the following season trying to reconnect with her like a guy trying to win a girl back. Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham's close friendship also leads to Damon and Bonnie having far more chemistry than Bonnie does with actual love interest Enzo.

Any corrections?
