Main Characters

    Both
  • Anchored Ship: Towards the end of the Dungeon arc, Tachibana finally confesses to have romantic feelings for Jinguuji. Even though Jinguuji relizes he might be in love with Tachibana too, he decides to keep holding back his feelings because he takes priority in helping Tachibana go back to being a guy and return to Japan. Meanwhile, Tachibana is sure to keep loving Jinguuji regardless of gender, but decides to not push for a Relationship Upgrade.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Tachibana and Jinguuji have been best friends since elementary school. When they get transported to another world and Tachibana gets turned into a woman, they immediately develop a mutual romantic attraction, but try to not act on it because of their long-term friendship as guys. Eventually, both can't keep suppressing their feelings and confess to each other.
  • Everyone Can See It: Almost everyone, mainly other heroes, can tell Tachibana and Jinguuji are in love by just looking at how they act around each other.
  • From Roommates to Romance: During their journey to the fantasy world, Tachibana and Jinguuji have to live together at Tachibana's apartment, which they can enter thanks to Jinguuji's wish to "take Tachibana home" before the goddess summoned them. Tachibana, who used to be a guy, and Jinguuji are fighting their growing attraction to each other in order to try and keep their cohabitation innocent until they go back to their world.
  • Hair-Contrast Duo: The cheerful Tachibana gets turned into a blonde girl and the serious-minded Jinguuji has black hair.
  • Lady and Knight: Tachibana is the beautiful, good-hearted Bright Lady and Jinguuji is the White Knight who protects Tachibana and gains his Super-Strength from his feelings for Tachibana. It's later revealed this is more or less by design, since instead of receiving an overpowered weapon like other heroes seem to have, Tachibana has Jinguuji for a weapon.
  • Last-Name Basis: Despite being friends for decades, Tachibana and Jinguuji always use their last names when speaking to each other, presumably because they've been co-workers for most of their adult life.
  • Like an Old Married Couple: Tachibana and Jinguuji have known each other nearly their entire lives and are each other's most important person despite their frequent quarrels.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Tachibana and Jinguuji assume they only feel attracted to each other because the Love Goddess cursed them. However, the goddess never mentioned the effects of her curse. This leaves intentionally ambiguous whether Tachibana and Jinguuji are under a Love Spell or they already had unrealized mutual feelings due to the close friendship they shared for years and Tachibana's transformation only brought those feelings to the fore.
  • Men Are Strong, Women Are Pretty: In the alternate world, Jinguuji is the World's Strongest Man, overpowering just about anyone and everyone, sometimes combined, and Tachibana is turned into the World's Most Beautiful Woman, able to seduce just about anyone and everyone just by standing there. The dynamic gets flipped on its head after a second run-in with the Goddess of Love, where they get their genders swapped and Jinguuji not only gets Tachibana's Living Aphrodisiac ability but also gets to keep his Super-Strength.
  • Mutual Envy: Tachibana is very jealous of Jinguuji's good looks, popularity with women and many outstanding skills. Meanwhile, Jinguuji envies Tachibana's more approachable personality and better social skills.
  • Opposites Attract: Tachibana is optimistic, sociable and wants to get more attention, in contrast with Jinguuji who is businesslike, unapproachable and dislikes drawing attention especially from the opposite sex. Even back when they were both guys, Tachibana and Jinguuji felt drawn to each other because their differences make up for what the other lacks.
  • The Power of Love: Both were summoned and empowered by the Love Goddess. Jinguuji loses his Super-Strength whenever he has an argument with Tachibana, indicating that their connection and mutual affection is the biggest source of his powers. Tachibana eventually realizes this and after both confess their mutual feelings, Tachibana tells Jinguuji that by becoming a couple, they could be the strongest in the world.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Tachibana is the overly emotional, enthusiastic Red Oni and Jinguuji is the emotionally distant, intellectual Blue Oni.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: In the fantasy world, Tachibana is the excitable and childish girl contrasting Jinguuji who acts like the serious and responsible adult he is.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Back when both were guys, Tachibana was the more emotionally open, friendlier and sensitive of the two while Jinguuji has always been more serious, unfamiliar with emotions and better at fighting.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: Whenever someone notices their mutual feelings or treats them like a couple, Tachibana and Jinguuji immediately deny they're anything more than friends, not that they manage to convince anyone.
  • Smart Jerk and Nice Moron: Tachibana is much more immediately friendly and easygoing than the outwardly stoic and rather cold Jinguuji, but he's also a Manchild who has been dependent on the more self-sufficient Jinguuji since they were children. On the other hand, Jinguuji is blunt and coldly abrasive in contrast to Tachibana's friendlier disposition, but he excels in far more practical fields than Tachibana does.
  • Swapped Roles: Due to the Goddess of Love throwing a tantrum, Tachibana and Jinguuji end up switching places; Tachibana goes back to being an adult man (though not fully reverting back to his original appearance, since he still has his blonde hair, blue eyes, and sharp teeth) while Jinguuji gets turned into a young-looking girl.
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: From the moment Tachibana is turned into a woman, Tachibana and Jinguuji become instantly physically attracted to each other, but both try to convince themselves those feelings are being caused by the curse of the Goddess of Love and Beauty. As time goes on, their attraction just gets stronger until it gets to the point that they can't deny they're not Just Friends anymore and Tachibana outright tells Jinguuji they should just become a couple.

Tachibana is a 32-year-old office worker who was chosen by the Goddess of Love and Beauty as the hero who is to defeat the Demon King. Due to a wish he made while drunk, the goddess transformed him into a young girl so pretty that men can go back just from looking at him/her.

  • Aren't You Going to Ravish Me?: In chapter 94, Tachibana is stripped naked because of Clothing Damage, but Jinguuji doesn't even notice Tachibana's nudity due to being too focused on his arm-wrestling match with Rise. Rather than being relieved Jinguuji didn't get charmed, Tachibana gets annoyed.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Tachibana's New Life in Another World Bonus is that he became a female Living Aphrodisiac.
  • Beautiful Tears: Jinguuji almost has a heart attack from Cuteness Proximity when he sees Tachibana's beautiful teary eyes.
  • Blessed with Suck: Played both ways. Tachibana's body change is shown to have its ups and downs. Tachibana's female body is small and weak, forcing Tachibana to completely rely on Jinguuji for protection. However, being in a much younger body gives Tachibana less pains and more energy. Further, Tachibana's given skills are as much of a blessing as a curse; Peerless Beauty requires a Perception Filter be used or everyone around Tachibana will become charmed, and Troublemaker makes Tachibana a Walking Disaster Area.
  • Book Dumb: Back in school, Tachibana's grades were terrible unless he got Jinguuji's help to study before a test.
  • Born Lucky: Every Character Level increases Tachibans's luck and only his luck. However, it gets evened out into Unluckily Lucky due to one of the "blessings" placed on him, "Troublemaker", attracting trouble everywhere he goes.
  • Bully Magnet: He was bullied by other boys in his childhood until Jinguuji drove the bullies away. This lead to Tachibana and Jinguuji becoming friends for life.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: His female body gets drunk after only one can of booze.
  • Chick Magnet:
    • After the gender change, almost every man wants Tachibana as his wife, even Jinguuji.
    • As a woman, his Glamour usually makes other women envious, worshipful, or spoiling. After the Goddess of Love and Beauty changes him back into a man, they proceed to see him as a hunk.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: The only stat Tachibana has that increases with each Character Level is luck. Strength and agility are apparently locked at 1.
  • Cuteness Proximity: After Jinguuji gets turned into a cute little girl, Tachibana immediately becomes charmed and keeps trying to pat Jinguuji's head.
  • Damsel in Distress: Tachibana's female form is weak, easily overpowered and often in danger due to basically having no skill aside from being cute and attractive. Even after leveling up, since most of the growth goes to the luck stat, Jinguuji ends up having to rescue Tachibana almost every arc.
  • Distressed Dude: Sex and size has little to no impact on RPG Mechanicsverse stats, so the dynamic of Tachibana needing Jinguuji to protect him does not change when the Goddess of Love and Beauty flips both of their sexes during a temper tantrum.
  • Expository Pronoun: Tachibana still uses the masculine pronoun "ore" despite now being a woman since he still identifies as male, although he does switch to more feminine pronouns when intentionally putting up a girly front.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: When Tachibana was a guy, his hair constantly covered his eyes, and always had since he was a young boy.
  • Favors for the Sexy: Tachibana doesn't have any qualms about using his new body's cuteness and Glamour to get his way.
  • Gayngst: Tachibana gradually gets very frustrated by what feeling attracted to Jinguuji says about his own (current or former) sexuality since he still identifies as a heterosexual man despite having a girl's body currently. Tachibana is only able to distract himself by focusing on how he's still attracted to a girl, insisting only those are his "real" feelings and whatever attraction he has for Jinguuji is just the goddess' curse messing with his sexual preferences. Eventually, however, Tachibana reaches a point where he can't make excuses for falling in love with Jinguuji.
  • Gender Bender: Shortly after being brought into the other world, the Goddess of Love melts Tachibana's body into goo, then reforms him as a female. Rather than having a female version of his original body, Tachibana's new form is based on his ideal of an attractive girl. After the Goddess of Love and Beauty throws a temper tantrum, Tachibana ends up as a man again, albeit a male version of the shape the goddess gave him rather than his original form.
  • Gender Bender Angst: Initially, Tachibana isn't too broken up about having a female body, and even seems to enjoy the attention of being so pretty. That's until Tachibana gets frustrated by Jinguuji distancing himself from his now female friend to try and avoid becoming charmed again, and Tachibana comes to the alarming realization that he's forgotten what his own face looked when he was a man.
  • Gender-Blender Name: His given name, Hinata, sounds quite feminine. He hates how he was teased over it when he was still a guy.
  • Glamour: Tachibana's "Peerless Beauty" skill causes people, mainly men, who look at his girl form's face to lose all capacity to reason and become unable to think of anything but admiring Tachibana's cuteness. The kind of admiration can vary depending on the person; it can be regular lust, worship, envy, a wish to spoil him or ambition to exploit him. In a case like Shen, who is only attracted to muscular bodies, Tachibana's feminine beauty has no effect.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Despite having a bratty manchild behavior and vitriolic relationship with Jinguuji, Tachibana is actually a kind person, and he's reborn as a girl with bright blonde hair.
  • Her Boyfriend's Jacket: Jinguuji lends his jacket to Tachibana and he ends up finding Tachibana even more attractive while wearing it because of the appeal of the trope plus the Cute Oversized Sleeves resulting from his clothes being so big for Tachibana's girl form. It's even lampshaded by Schwartz.
  • Heroic Willpower: Tachibana is able to undo his own brainwashing during his battle with Jinguuji thanks to remembering Jinguuji is a hero to him, not someone he wants to defeat.
  • I Didn't Mean to Turn You On: After becoming a woman, almost every single thing Tachibana does accidentally makes Jinguuji get a "Charmed" sign above his head.
  • If It's You, It's Okay: Tachibana only liked girls before being transformed into one himself. After the fact, he quickly becomes attracted to Jinguuji yet feels no attraction to men other than him.
  • Informed Attractiveness: Invoked in universe. Despite his/her penchant for charming every man who sees him/her, Tachibana as a girl is mostly generic cute with the Goddess of Love's enchantment causing most of it.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Although he didn't realize it for long, Tachibana has been Jinguuji's Only Friend and sole emotional support throughout most of their lives. Jinguuji even believes that he would have never opened himself to positive emotions if Tachibana wasn't with him.
  • Logical Weakness: His female form's Living Aphrodisiac abilities only affect those who are attracted to women. This means that people like Shen, who is only attracted to muscular men, are completely immune to his charms.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: After the Goddess of Love throws a tantrum, Tachibana gets turned back into a man, but he's prettier than his original self and keeps his female form's long blond hair.
  • Love Be a Lady: Tachibana is the hero chosen by the Goddess of Love and Beauty. Due to him wishing to become a beautiful girl while drunk, the goddess turns him into an absolutely gorgeous girl who causes all men who lay their eyes on her to fall madly in love.
  • Magical Accessory: Tachibana's Cool Crown is actually a magic item with a Perception Filter effect that causes people to avoid looking at his face. This prevents people around him from being affected by his beauty immediately.
  • Manchild: Tachibana is 32 years old, but his personality better fits the younger body he's transformed into. He rarely plans anything ahead, throws tantrums when he can't get his way, and is heavily reliant on Jinguuji to take care of everyday tasks.
  • Motivational Kiss: After confessing to Jinguuji, Tachibana gives him a forehead kiss to give him the power boost he needs to win his fight against Rise.
  • Older Than They Look: Tachibana's new body looks like a petite girl in her early teens, but is still a 32-year-old adult in mind. Tachibana questions if Jinguuji and other men attracted to his young-looking body are all closeted pedophiles.
  • Only Friend: Jinguuji has no friends besides Tachibana.
  • Pink Is Feminine: He gets a pink dress as his standard outfit in the other world.
  • Power Limiter: Tachibana spends most of his time wearing a Cool Crown that limits the effect of his inhuman looks so people won't fall madly in lust with him on sight.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: Tachibana wears a dress with tights to cover the legs due to feeling uncomfortable with showing too much skin.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: Tachibana doesn't like showing his female body's skin, especially when just taking off the coat can cause men to become charmed. Later on, Tachibana gets more self-conscious around Jinguuji, which makes incidents like Jinguuji walking in on a naked Tachibana very awkward and mortifying for both of them.
  • Ridiculously Average Guy: In our world, Tachibana had plain looks, average height and weight, and no outstanding qualities whatsoever. After his transformation into a woman, Tachibana is now superhumanly pretty.
  • Scary Teeth: Despite otherwise having the appearance of a young and attractive girl, Tachibana's new body notably has rows of sharp teeth, likely as a result of his drunken rambling in the previous life about how he wished to be an attractive girl with "sharp features". It also serves as an indicator of the bratty personality Tachibana still has beneath the seemingly innocent exterior.
  • Signature Headgear: Early on, Tachibana starts wearing a crown that vaguely resembles horns or rabbit ears. It's actually a magic item that prevents Tachibana charms everyone in the vicinity by accident, but it's often used as a funny visual shorthand to identify Tachibana by adding the "horns/rabbit ears" to his Super-Deformed scenes or speech bubbles.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: Tachibana's female form is extremely beautiful and has passive skills that keep other people attracted to him. Among the issues caused by being so beautiful is a band of thieves killing each other to be with her, and an elf chieftain fighting her and Jinguuji because she couldn't handle that there's a girl more beautiful than her. He is later selected as a sacrifice, since a Squid God wanted to eat the most beautiful girl his villagers could find.
  • Somebody Doesn't Love Raymond: Shen is the only one who is completely unaffected by Tachibana's beauty and doesn't find Tachibana to be cute at all. Tachibana takes this as a big insult as he considers being cute is his only identity currently.
  • Sultry Bangs: After the Goddess of Love turns him back into a man while conserving his new body's Peerless Beauty skill, Tachibana looks like a Long-Haired Pretty Boy with bangs falling over the right side of his face.
  • Super Gender-Bender: When Tachibana becomes a woman, his new form takes Attractive Bent-Gender to the point of being a literal superpower, able to elicit marriage proposals from men just by standing there and, at one point, causing an entire gang of bandits to take themselves out due to fighting over him.
  • Tareme Eyes: Tachibana's girl form has adorable, gentle-looking round eyes that nicely contrast Jinguuji's Tsurime Eyes.
  • Tsundere: Sweet type. Tachibana is friendly and easygoing, but can get short-tempered and abrasive around Jinguuji. Tachibana tries to deny his romantic attraction to Jinguuji, but the "Charmed" sign above his head reveals how he really feels every single time.
  • Unluckily Lucky: Tachibana having a combo of So Beautiful, It's a Curse, Walking Disaster Area, and having Jinguuji as his "unique weapon", has resulted in scenarios where he constantly gets into troublesome situations, but they always turn out alright in the end, such as a bandit attack happening right when he enters a town but said bandits turn on each other and themselves from fighting over him, saving the town.
  • Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Schwartz is disillusioned when he learns he crushed on a 32-year-old male office worker in the body of a pretty young girl.
  • Walking Disaster Area: Alongside his "skill" of being So Beautiful, It's a Curse, another "skill" the goddess granted Tachibana is that everywhere he goes, trouble and disaster will spontaneously occur, such as a bandit group attacking the instant he enters a town.
  • "Which Restroom?" Dilemma: Tachibana has a lot of trouble deciding which bathroom to use in the Hot Springs Episode. On one hand, bathing with the teenage Nazuna could be inappropriate because Tachibana was originally a grown man, but the other option is suffering through Unresolved Sexual Tension from being naked with Jinguuji.
  • Women Prefer Strong Men: Jinguuji's near unbeatable strength is one of the features that Tachibana finds attractive about him.

Tachibana's childhood friend and coworker. When the Goddess of Love appeared, Jinguuji got dragged into the fantasy world along with Tachibana.

  • Accidental Pervert: He walks in on a naked Tachibana a couple of times. Tachibana doesn't mind the first time, but he does get embarrassed later on.
  • Ambiguously Gay: The only 'woman' he's ever been attracted to is his male best friend in the body with a potent Glamour effect and he already called said friend the "Oasis of [his] heart" as a man. Tachibana has always had his suspicions, but was too embarrassed to ask. Tachibana also suspects that even Jinguuji himself wouldn't know, since he never thinks about it and has never had any sort of Love Epiphany.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: His female form is as pretty as Tachibana's. Tachibana thinks he looks super adorable as a little girl.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: He got transported to the fantasy world while wearing the suit he wore at work in Japan. His New Life in Another World Bonus is Super-Strength, making him almost unbeatable as long as he's near Tachibana.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Unlike the other heroes who all have a weapon, Jinguuji always fight barehanded, aided by his Super-Strength. After all, Tachibana doesn't have an actual weapon because Jinguuji is supposed to make up for it.
  • Battle Strip: Since the Goddess of Love and Beauty's blessing strengthens the less clothes he wears, Jinguuji takes off his shirt during some of the fights in the Dungeon arc.
  • Bishie Sparkle: Jinguuji is a very handsome-looking man who often sparkles whenever Tachibana stares at him.
  • Blind Without 'Em: He can't see without his glasses. When the Goddess of Love and Beauty ends up inflicting a Gender Bender on him, she also ends up fixing his eyes.
  • Bodyguard Crush: He was sent to the fantasy world to be Tachibana's bodyguard and Tachibana getting turned into a cute girl causes him to develop a crush on his friend.
  • Broken Ace: He's amazing at everything he does, but was raised in a very strict household and his outstanding talents left him unable to make friends besides Tachibana.
  • Brutal Honesty: He likes to state the facts without mincing words. He doesn't give a damn about people being offended by him telling the truth.
  • Bully Hunter: He met Tachibana when he beat up and scared away the bullies who were tormenting Tachibana.
  • The Champion: The goddesses give the heroes a weapon when they're transported to the fantasy world. Instead of a weapon, Tachibana has Jinguuji to fight for him and protect him. As a bonus, the Goddess of Love gave Jinguuji Super-Strength that is fueled by his desire to protect Tachibana.
  • Chaste Hero: Back in Japan, he was never interested in dating or getting married despite being massively popular with women. After being charmed by Tachibana's female form, his emotionally stunted upbringing causes him to not be able to comprehend and express his attraction to Tachibana, even brushing it off as the goddess' curse.
  • Chick Magnet: He has been insanely popular with women since always, not that he sees this as a good thing. Tachibana for his part finds this annoying, since the two are always together, and Jinguuji sucks up all of the female attention he, being a Chaste Hero, has no interest in, leaving Tachibana stuck single as well.
  • Coat Cape: When stuck in female form, Jinguuji wears a jacket over the shoulders like a cape.
  • Comically Invincible Hero: Jinguuji is level 70 at the start of the story, already in a much higher level and much more powerful than any being they find (the next strongest person they find is level 52). Whenever there's a physical challenge, he can easily cheese through it.
  • Covert Pervert: No matter how much he tries to deny it, he does think Tachibana's new loli body is super cute. Imagining his formerly male friend in a Playboy Bunny and Meido outfit has quite an effect on him. At one point, he even fantasizes about marrying and having a baby with female Tachibana, much to his own horror.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: After he thinks he sees Tachibana kissing Yoshida, he's overcome with feelings of jealousy that get amplified by Rise's influence. This results in Jinguuji trying to monopolize Tachibana, not wanting Tachibana to look at anyone but him.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Jinguuji had a very harsh and lonely childhood where he was neglected and emotionally abused by his family, mainly his grandmother. His only happy memories are of him with Tachibana.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: Accidentally destroys Shen's wagon.
  • Do Not Taunt Cthulhu: He is not afraid to speak his mind in front of a childish Reality Warper goddess with almost no restrictions on her behavior. He has paid the price for this twice.
  • Emotionally Tongue-Tied: His family never allowed him to be emotionally open. Even though Tachibana has been his best friend since childhood, Jinguugi has never praised him because he doesn't know how to do that and finds showing affection for his male friend to be embarrassing. After understanding his behavior has made Tachibana feel unappreciated, Jinguugi starts voicing out his concern and respect for Tachibana.
  • Enraged by Idiocy: Jinguuji has zero patience when dealing with idiots. This is a big problem whenever he runs into the Goddess of Love, since she also has no tolerance for Jinguuji calling her out on her stupid behavior and makes him and Tachibana pay the price.
  • Gender Bender: After the Goddess of Love and Beauty throws a temper tantrum, she turns him into a woman, on top of turning Tachibana back into a man.
  • Glamour: When the Goddess of Love and Beauty throws a temper tantrum and turns him into a little girl, she also gives him a copy of the Peerless Beauty skill, though in Jinguuji's case, it encourages head pats instead of marriage proposals.
  • The Glasses Gotta Go: Tachibana is instantly charmed when Jinguuji takes off his glasses and lets his hair down during the duel with Lightning.
  • He-Man Woman Hater: His bad experiences with women fighting over him and stalking him has left him with a disdain for the female gender. His strict grandmother's emotional abuse and his mother abandoning him also influenced his dislike and distrust towards women.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: He was always very intelligent and became incredibly powerful in the fantasy world, but is counted as The Champion to Tachibana instead of one of the The Chosen Many himself. Since Tachibana's only power is being cute, Jinguuji has to do all the fighting and rescue Tachibana whenever the latter gets into trouble like being kidnapped.
  • I Didn't Mean to Turn You On: After the battle with the Meepon, the newfound closeness between Jinguuji and Tachibana causes the latter to get oddly flustered when he sees Jinguuji changing clothes. Jinguuji makes it worse by getting his face close to Tachibana's and he doesn't even realize what he's making Tachibana feel until he sees the "Charmed" sign above Tachibana's head.
  • I Don't Want to Ruin Our Friendship: He stops himself from acting on his strong attraction to Tachibana because he's afraid that if Tachibana doesn't feel the same way, he'll hurt his Only Friend from childhood and losing their friendship is the one thing he'll never allow to happen. Eventually, Tachibana takes the first step in confessing and tells Jinguuji they should become a couple since they can't keep denying they're in love, but Jinguuji still insists on acting like Tachibana is his best guy friend.
  • Inconvenient Attraction: He never wanted a romantic relationship and wanted to always think of Tachibana as his lifelong friend, so he freaks out as he finds himself falling in love with the now female Tachibana (presumably because of a curse) since it could hurt their friendship.
  • Innocently Insensitive: He never realized that Tachibana held a lot of feelings of inadequacy and inferiority because he always felt he lived in his more handsome and talented best friend's shadow. Jinguuji never once expressing his appreciation for Tachibana's friendship didn't help. Thanks to Schwartz's advice, Jinguuji becomes more open about his fondness for Tachibana.
  • Instant Expert: He can master any skill by doing it just once.
  • Little Girls Kick Shins: After being turned into a little girl, Jinguuji angrily kicks Tachibana's shin when the latter keeps patting his head.
  • Little Miss Badass: When turned into a little girl, Jinguuji can still kick ass thanks to retaining his Super-Strength skill.
  • Love Revelation Epiphany: Jinguuji can't understand his feelings for Tachibana are romantic love until Tachibana confesses to him and gives him a detailed explanation of how it feels to be in love with someone.
  • Loving Details: After defeating the Meepon mecha, Jinguuji does as Tachibana wanted and finally praises his friend. The list of praises gets so damn long and detailed that Tachibana ends up dying from embarrassment.
  • Manchild: Despite appearing mature and collected on the surface, Jinguuji actually isn't that mature compared to Tachibana as he's in some ways even more emotionally stunted because of his family's cold upbringing. Since his strong feelings for Tachibana are so alien to him, he ends up behaving like a boy who doesn't know how to handle his first crush and gets stubborn whenever others try forcing him to admit how he truly feels. Even Schwartz calls him out on acting like an immature teenager for getting embarrassed when he's pressured into praising Tachibana for the first time.
  • Mistaken for Pedophile: Tachibana thinks Jinguuji may like underaged girls because he feels no attraction to the female gender except for Tachibana in a young-looking girl's body. Jinguuji being nicer to the 16-year-old Nazuna than he is to other women adds to Tachibana's suspicions. However, Jinguuji only sees Nazuna as an apprentice and it's more than implied that his attraction to Tachibana is the result of Single-Target Sexuality instead of pedophilia.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He is ripped and very muscular, having several shirtless scenes to show it off.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: While in Crazy Jealous Guy mode, Jinguuji almost forces a kiss on Tachibana. When Nazuna and Lightning knock some sense into him, Jinguuji feels terribly ashamed of how he acted and distances himself even more from Tachibana out of fear he'll lose control again and try to force himself on his best friend.
  • No Social Skills: He doesn't have any friends besides Tachibana and usually leaves the social matters to him. As a result, Jinguuji is too blunt and has no idea of how to interact with people in a friendly way.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite being the more serious and levelheaded one of the main duo, his social skills only hold so long as he believes others are treating him fairly. Otherwise, Jinguuji shows himself to be very short-tempered, selfish, and impatient.
  • Oblivious to Love: Tachibana's feelings for Jinguuji only get stronger with time, but Jinguuji doesn't realize or understand that, even thinking that making a move on Tachibana will only make his friend hate him. Tachibana even calls him out on how dense he is as he should had seen the Love Confession coming from a while ago.
  • One Head Taller: He's taller than female Tachibana by a full head.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: The Goddess of Love and Beauty turns him into a little girl, but he still has Super-Strength and can effortlessly carry Tachibana, now an adult man twice his new body's size.
  • Pocket Dimension: The Goddess of Love and Beauty granted his wish of "taking Tachibana to his house" by giving Jinguuji a special skill that transforms Tachibana's apartment into a secluded dimension that Jinguuji can enter at will. This is very useful as he and Tachibana don't have to worry about finding a place to sleep and eat after being transported to the fantasy world.
  • Private Tutor: Tachibana usually asked Jinguuji to tutor him before tests during their school days.
  • The Reliable One: From a young age, people relied on Jinguuji because he's very competent and dependable. Tachibana even points it out when he admits to not having food at his apartment because he knows Jinguuji would help him out in an emergency. However, it's later revealed that Jinguuji trying to always be reliable to others resulted in him not being able to ask for help for his own problems as he was taught that would be a sign of weakness.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Tachibana is the only person he has ever been interested in and he never felt attracted to a woman until Tachibana was turned into one. Even Tachibana suspects Jinguuji never had a girlfriend because he liked him even before the gender change.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: A same sex/gender reversed example. Jinguuji has had strong feelings for Tachibana since before the latter became a woman, because he admires and cherishes Tachibana's good heart, friendliness and disposition to help others.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: He has never seen his popularity with women as a good thing, since all it got him was women fighting over him or stalking him.
  • Specs of Awesome: He wears glasses and thanks to being Tachibana's "weapon", he's one of the strongest fighters in the show.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: He's coolheaded and serious, but shows a softer side of himself only to Tachibana, who he's very protective of.
  • Super-Strength: Due to being Tachibana's "weapon", Jinguuji gains the strength of a hundred men upon arrived at the fantasy world. Although, his strength decreases when he's separated from Tachibana.
  • Supreme Chef: He's an excellent cook who can prepare delicious food with the bizarre ingredients he finds in the other world.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: He's tall, black-haired and so handsome that all women around him want to date him, even his Gender Bender best friend.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: At the beginning, Jinguuji is very rude and cold towards Tachibana due to his transformation into a woman. After their disagreements accidentally cause Tachibana to join a rebel army, Jinguugi takes Schwartz's advice and resolves to be nicer to Tachibana by giving him compliments so Tachibana knows his own worth.
  • Tsurime Eyes: In contrast to (girl) Tachibana's Tareme Eyes, Jinguuji has stern-looking sharp eyes. They become even more pronounced when he gets turned into a girl.
  • Unknowingly in Love: There's many hints that Jinguuji has subconsciously loved Tachibana as more than a friend since before the latter was turned into a woman. He just doesn't realize it because he thinks their relationship is that of Heterosexual Life-Partners and convinces himself that the goddess' curse is what causes his strong attraction to female Tachibana. Even when Tachibana confesses to him, Jinguuji admits to not being sure of being in love with his friend too, until he realizes Tachibana's description of being in love perfectly matches what he feels for Tachibana.
  • We Want Our Jerk Back!: Tachibana isn't completely receptive to Jinguuji taking a level in kindness at first, though it's less due to being put off and more to do with the fact that Jinguuji is positively charming when he's openly showing concern for him, which makes Tachibana's efforts not to fall for him very difficult.
  • When He Smiles: When Jinguuji laughs for probably the first time, Tachibana finds it a heartwarming sight.
  • Willing Channeler: In order to defeat Rise, he willingly activates the Goddess of Love and Beauty's blessing to the point of direct Divine Intervention, despite his personal dislike for her.
  • World's Strongest Man: He is the strongest mortal known, with even the Goddess of Chaos acknowledging his hero pair as the strongest of the heroes.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Tachibana doesn't think there's anything special about him and feels worthless next to Jinguuji. When Tachibana finally admits this and Schwartz gives some much needed relationship advice, Jinguuji finds the courage to tell Tachibana how good and admirable of a person he thinks he is. Afterwards, Jinguuji won't let Tachibana put himself down again.

Other Heroes

    In General
  • The Chosen Many: There's twelve goddesses in total, with each having chosen a Japanese human to become their representative hero in the other world.
  • Claimed by the Supernatural: The heroes chosen by a goddess have a mark on them identifying which goddess they are associated with.
  • The Poorly Chosen One: The goddesses have varying levels of sanity, and some of their heroes might not have been the best choices. One betrays the other heroes to the Demon King's army, one eats themself to death, and one gets imprisoned in The Alcatraz, presumably for heinous crimes.
  • Reincarnate in Another World: All the heroes are confirmed to have died (either from an accident, illness or being killed by a goddess) before their goddess resurrected them and sent them to the other world.
  • Summon Everyman Hero: They're all regular Japanese people (most of them teenagers) who were summoned by a goddess to save the fantasy world from the Demon King.

    Schwartz von Liechtenstein Lohengramm

Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa (JP), Dallas Reid (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_schwartz.png

A third-year high school student who was summoned as a hero by the Goddess of the Night. His weapon is the holy sword Gram.

  • Acquired Poison Immunity: He acquired poison resistance due to having lived in the woods for some time.
  • Afraid of Their Own Strength: The first time he uses his sword Gram, Schwartz almost panics at seeing how much destruction it can cause.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: His holy sword Gram is an Absurdly Sharp Blade born from his wish of the most powerful weapon he could imagine. The problem is his goddess went a little overboard and Schwartz is unable to control the range of destruction when he wields the sword. He gets better at using it after training with Lucius, though.
  • Badass Longcoat: He wears a black longcoat and is one of the heroes summoned to defeat the Demon King.
  • Black Swords Are Better: His sword Gram has a jet-black blade as it was made by the Goddess of the Night herself.
  • Butt-Monkey: His first appearances have him being put through humiliation after another. He's arrested because Lucius doesn't believe the legend of the heroes, his first fight against the Demon King's army ends with him being stripped naked and his divine sword gets eaten by an armor suit. After he joins the Vigilante Corps and trains, he's finally allowed to be a competent fighter.
  • Cassandra Truth: He tells Lucius that he's the hero summoned by the Goddess of the Night and even shows her the goddess mark on his hand as proof. Instead of convincing her, he ends up accused of perjury and it gets added to his list of charges for arrest. It's not until Schwartz summons the goddess by accident that Lucius finally believes he's a real chosen hero.
  • Chuunibyou: He uses a Gratuitous German name that translates to something meaninglessly edgy, has overly theatric mannerisms, and wields a self-proclaimed holy sword.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: His first outfit has a fingerless glove, but only on the right hand as that's where his goddess mark is located.
  • Forged by the Gods: He asked his goddess to give him a sword as his ultimate weapon.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: When fighting a Brainwashed and Crazy Tachibana, Schwartz gets enough of Jinguuji acting like a Manchild and punches him to make him see that there's nothing embarrassing about praising his best friend, especially when an entire kingdom and their lives are at stake.
  • Gratuitous German: His alias even includes an actual country's name in it, which, if followed to its logic, would mean he's "from Liechtenstein"...
  • Implausible Fencing Powers: One swing of his sword Gram cut in half all the houses in his surroundings.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Schwartz tries to act like a cool and confident hero, but he's really a timid and socially awkward teenager who had a hard time even talking to people in the fantasy world until he met Tachibana and Jinguuji, who are both Japanese as well.
  • Mr. Imagination: He has tendency to come up with elaborate scenarios on the fly such as when he assumes Tachibana has fallen in love with Parental Substitute Jinguuji, all paint him as a young man with a slim grasp on reality having a blast in a fantasy world.
  • The Nudifier: After learning to control his sword better, he can use it to destroy people's clothing without causing harm.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: He goes by an alias in the fantasy world. His real name is unknown because he doesn't want to reveal it.
  • Overly Long Name: His alias is way too long.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Despite his Chuunibyou shtick making him come across as goofy, Schwartz can act very levelheaded and reasonable when the situation calls for it. He can also approach emotions and feelings in a much more mature way than the 32-year-old adults Tachibana and Jinguuji.
  • Some Call Me "Tim": Tachibana calls him "Schwa-kun" because it's shorter and easier to remember than his Overly Long Name.
  • Stock Light-Novel Hero: Parodied and Subverted. Schwartz is a high school student who was summoned by the Goddess of the Night as a hero to defeat the Demon King in another world where he's given an overpowered Cool Sword and a black outfit that reminds of popular characters of the archetype like Kirito from Sword Art Online. However, his "cool and edgy hero" persona is competely Played for Laughs as he's really just a Chuunibyou who doesn't have good control of his weapon because it turns out to be too overpowered for conventional use until he properly trains with it. He soon drops the act entirely when he joins the Vigilante Corps.
  • Translator Buddy: Only he can understand his goddess' peculiar vocabulary and translates what she meant in normal words.
  • The Von Trope Family: His alias has "von" as part of the name, but in his case, he just wants it to sound cool.
  • Withholding Their Name: He vehemently refuses to reveal his real name as he considers his alias to be his "soul name".

    Nazuna Suzuna

A first-year high school student who has been summoned as a hero. She teams up with Tachibana and Jinguuji at a dungeon.

  • Armed Legs: Her divine weapon are her shoes, which turn into a mechanical armor that covers her legs.
  • Beta Couple: With Lightning. Nazuna is very shocked when she learns Lightning was originally a girl, but she easily accepts she still likes Lightning and forms a budding relationship with him which parallels and contrasts Tachibana and Jinguuji's more complicated Gender Bender romance.
  • Blow You Away: Her Patron God is the Goddess of the Wind. Thanks to this, Nazuna can create a tornado that injures Jinguuji.
  • Born Unlucky: She has only one point in the luck stat. Things have gone wrong for her since she arrived to the fantasy world. To start with, she got dropped in the wrong continent and was almost sold as a slave.
  • Combat Stilettos: Her high heels are her divine weapon.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She still isn't good at using her mechanical legs, causing her to trip a lot. Makes sense since she was wheelchair-bound before her goddess summoned her.
  • Hair Reboot: She was bald in Japan, implying that she had cancer. When her goddess gave her a healthy body, she also gained long hair, much to her joy.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: She forms a party with Tachibana and Jinguuji because she has been lonely since she was summoned and wants friends she can talk to. Her wish for friends makes even more sense when it's revealed she was terminally ill in Japan and spent all her life in the hospital without being able to talk to anyone but her mother.
  • Kick Chick: She fights exclusively with kicks, as her divine weapon is a pair of mechanical leg armor.
  • Minidress of Power: She's one of the summoned heroes and her adventure outfit is a white minidress.
  • Modesty Shorts: She wears bicycle shorts under her short dress.
  • Nice Girl: She's a very sweet girl who only wants to be helpful to Tachibana and Jinguuji.
  • Opposites Attract: Nazuna, who is clumsy and self-deprecating, has a crush on Kaoru/Lightning, who is bombastic and self-confident.
  • Rhyming Names: Her full name is Nazuna Suzuna.
  • Second Love: To Lightning. He can let go of his unrequited first love thanks to Nazuna liking him and promising to support him in his journey.
  • Shipper on Deck: She thinks Tachibana and Jinguuji would make a nice couple, although she doesn't find out Tachibana is a Gender Bender until later.
  • Sickly Child Grew Up Strong: Flashbacks reveal she was very ill prior to being sent to the other world, to the point that she needed a wheelchair and ended up dying because of her illness. After getting the blessing of her goddess and being trained by Jinguuji, she becomes a capable fighter who can manage to hurt Jinguuji.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She has a crush on the chivalrous Lightning because he gave her money out of charity.

    Kaoru Yoshida / Lightning

The leader of an elite party at the dungeon. He's revealed to be the hero summoned by the Goddess of the Sun.

  • The Ace: Lightning is the leader of the best party at the dungeon, handsome, strong and popular. Even back in Japan, Kaoru was a beautiful School Idol.
  • Ambiguous Gender Identity: Unlike Tachibana, Kaoru/Lightning's gender identity is hard to describe. They voluntarily changed from female to male, but specifically as a means to pick up more girls, and don't object to Nazuna speaking to them as if they're still a girl. Tachibana even questions whether Kaoru/Lightning should be treated as a man or a woman.
  • Attention Whore: Justified. Because of his goddess' blessing, his power increases the more he stands out and gets the attention of those around him.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Kaoru is a beautiful young girl who asked to be turned into a beautiful young man. Nazuna finds Kaoru attractive as either gender.
  • Badass Longcoat: Lightning wears a purple longcoat and being a chosen hero makes him powerful.
  • Beta Couple: With Nazuna. Since Nazuna met Lightning as a man, they don't have much reservation with feeling attracted to each other, which serves as a parallel and contrast to Tachibana and Jinguuji's more complicated Gender Bender romance.
  • The Charmer: His handsome face and smooth, chivalrous behavior instantly charm people of either gender.
  • Chick Magnet: Prior to being sent to the fantasy world, Kaoru was extremely popular among the girls of her school, even getting tons of love letters every day.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Women and men alike are charmed by Lightning. And since he was originally a girl, it's a case that doubles as Even the Girls Want Her.
  • Foil: To Tachibana. While also a Gender Bender, Kaoru/Lightning consciously wished to become a man and is open about liking women despite having been a woman originally, unlike Tachibana whose gender change was caused by a Literal Genie granting a wish he made while drunk and is very conflicted about falling in love with a guy due to having been Jinguuji's male best friend for most of their lives.
  • Gender Bender: He was a high school girl in Japan. Like Tachibana, his goddess changed his sex upon sending him to the fantasy world. Unlike Tachibana, it was Lightning's deliberate choice upon learning he could determine his appearance.
  • Gender-Blender Name: "Kaoru" is an unisex name, which makes it convenient for a Gender Bender.
  • Hair Flip: He tends to flip his hair when attracting attention.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: As Lightning, Kaoru has blond hair and is chivalrous, charming and a good person despite having been willing to fight other heroes.
  • Incompatible Orientation: Kaoru fell in love with the other most beautiful girl of her school, but got rejected because her crush wouldn't date another girl. Kaoru asked the Goddess of the Sun to turn her into a man to get all the cute girls she wants.
  • Large Ham: When he fights, he's illuminated by a spotlight and sings like the actor of a stage play. Jinguuji realizes these are the triggers for the blessings of his goddess.
  • Locked into Strangeness: Kaoru's hair was originally black, but it turned blonde after the Goddess of the Sun revived her/him as her hero.
  • Love Revelation Epiphany: At the end of the Dungeon arc, it's implied Lightning is starting to fall in love with Nazuna after the latter's love confession to him.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: During the fight against Akito, Nazuna's leg gets stuck under debris just as missiles are fired at her and Lightning. Nazuna tearfully begs Lightning to leave her behind, but he refuses. Fortunately, Yan arrives to save them.
  • Onee-sama: At Kaoru's school, the girls swooned over her and called her "Onee-sama" out of love for her beauty and elegance.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: "Lightning" is the cool-sounding alias he uses in the fantasy world. His real name is Kaoru Yoshida.
  • Opposites Attract: Kaoru/Lightning is bombastic and self-confident, in contrast with Nazuna who is clumsy and self-deprecating. Kaoru/Lightning becomes drawn to Nazuna because she makes up for the areas he lacks.
  • Parrying Bullets: Lightning can deflect bullets with his rapier.
  • Post-Modern Magik: His magic weapon is a smartphone that gives him detailed information to overcome the challenges he faces.
  • Princely Young Man: Lightning is a very attractive and dreamy young man who dresses and behaves like a prince. He's even adored by the adventurers at the dungeon for his charisma and heroism.
  • Proud Beauty: Kaoru/Lightning takes great pride in being amazingly gorgeous, both as a woman and as a man.
  • Royal Rapier: He wields a classy rapier.
  • School Idol: Kaoru was the most popular girl of her One-Gender School.
  • Second Law of Gender-Bending: Unlike Tachibana, Kaoru unreservedly enjoys being a guy and deliberately wished to be one.
  • Shameless Fanservice Guy: Having been a girl originally, Lightning has no problem with bathing at the girls' side of the hot springs.
  • Shipper on Deck: Lightning can easily tell Tachibana and Jinguuji have feelings for each other and would like to go to their wedding if they get married.
  • Something about a Rose: He's surrounded by roses when he sings, for extra dramatic effect.
  • Spurned into Suicide: Subverted. After Kaoru was rejected by the girl she liked, she was so devastated that she ran to the street and was run over by a truck. However, Lightning later admits that he never could gather the courage to confess to the girl he liked as Kaoru.
  • Status Buff: The Goddess of the Sun's blessing boosts the strength, speed and skills of Lightning and whoever is under his spotlight. However, it has the downside that people's bodies move faster than their thought process and it causes them to lose balance and fall over easily.
  • Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Nazuna becomes shell-shocked when she learns her crush Lightning was actually a high school girl in their original world.
  • What You Are in the Dark: When Lightning first met Nazuna, she was all alone and penniless. Since he knew Nazuna was another hero, Lightning considered ignoring her and let his competition disappear on its own, but he realized that wouldn't be "beautiful" and gave a lot of money to Nazuna, which is why she sees Lightning as her benefactor.

    Akito Mori

A hero working with Rise, one of the Demon King's generals. He's a Dungeon Master.

  • Arc Villain: He's one of the villains of the Dungeon arc, where he teams up with Rise to get rid of the heroes at the dungeon.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: He chose to work with Rise, despite being fully aware he's a member of the Demon King's army, because he was the only person of the other world who never betrayed him.
  • Blessed with Suck: Receiving the blessing of the Goddess of Death only got him betrayed and killed more times than he can count.
  • Chuunibyou: Tachibana compares Akito to Schwartz, thinking he's just an insecure teenager playing at being an edgelord after being transported to another world.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Instead of challenging the other heroes to a fair fight, he tries to get rid of them with deadly traps. He also brings firearms, grenades and projectiles to a fight as he knows the other heroes don't have modern weapons.
  • Covert Pervert: In an extra chapter, Akito has run out of ideas for dungeon traps and can only come up with lewd traps, to his dismay.
  • Dark Is Evil: Akito is the hero chosen by the Goddess of Death, wears dark clothes, and is introduced working with a Demon King's general to kill the other heroes.
  • Guns Akimbo: He carries two pistols into battle.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Unlike most heroes, Akito chooses to fight using dungeon traps or ranged weapons like guns and grenades.
  • One-Way Visor: He wears a visor-like eye mask when he wants to look edgy.
  • Pet the Dog: Even though Yan spilled out information to the other heroes, Akito can't bring himself to activate the Explosive Leash he placed on Yan and spares him.
  • The Poorly Chosen One: The goddess that sponsored him really should have checked his judgement and mental stability before picking him as a hero.
  • Post-Modern Magik: His goddess gave him a keyboard as his divine weapon.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Akito can apparently come back to life whenever he's killed, thanks to one of the cheats he got from the Goddess of Death.
  • Ridiculously Fast Construction: Appears to be the power of his keyboard, allowing him to build a dungeon with modern technology.
  • Sinister Surveillance: Throughout most of the Dungeon arc, Akito sits in front of a computer screen where he monitors the heroes in his dungeon and tries to eliminate them with his death traps.
  • Token Evil Teammate: He wants to eliminate the other heroes so much that he formed an alliance with a general from the Demon King's army.
  • Trap Master: He's in charge of setting up the traps at the dungeon.
  • Villainous Friendship: With Rise. They build a dungeon together to kill the heroes they lured in, but there's a genuine feeling of friendship between the two.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: He has supposedly been betrayed and left for dead by the "good guys" so many times that he has allied with the Demon King's army to take revenge against the world by killing all of the other heroes.

Goddesses

    In General
  • The Chooser of the One: Each goddess has chosen a hero and blessed them with their power to defeat the Demon King.
  • His Name Really Is "Barkeep": None of the goddesses have actual names. Even among themselves, they only refer to each other by the concept they govern over.
  • Holy Halo: The goddesses have a large halo floating behind her. Jinguuji calls his goddess the "LED woman" for this.
  • Hot Goddess: All the goddesses are very attractive.
  • Immortal Immaturity: Even though they're probably as old as the world, the goddesses act silly and childish to varying degrees.
  • Physical Goddess: They're goddesses with the physical appearance of young women.

    Goddess of Love and Beauty

Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya (JP), Jamie Marchi (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_goddess_of_love.png

The goddess who summoned Tachibana and Jinguuji to the fantasy world.

  • Adaptational Modesty: She's naked all the time in both the manga and anime, but the anime gives her body a transluscent effect to downplay her nudity.
  • Animal-Eared Headband: She wears a headband with rabbit ears.
  • Anime Hair: She has impossibly large and long drill hair.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has pink hair and pink eyes.
  • The Ditz: She's a goddess, but also an immature airhead.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: She has star-shaped pupils.
  • Godiva Hair: Since she's naked all the time, her hair is the only thing covering her breasts.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Besides being the Love Goddess, she also governs over alcohol. Her followers worship her by throwing parties with lots of drinking. In her spare time, she's shown relaxing with a glass of wine in her hand.
  • Jerkass Gods: She's rather short-tempered and curses her chosen heroes when they continued to show insolence towards her.
  • Literal Genie: After failing to find a date at a mixer once again, Tachibana drunkenly rambles that he wishes he was a pretty girl all the guys fell for, going into detail of the kind he likes (young-looking, short, blonde, and with "sharp features"—which gets interpreted as "sharp teeth"). The Goddess of Love takes this wish literally and expects him to save her world, as payment for the wish or to reverse it.
  • Love Goddess: She governs over love and beauty. Her followers are shown to worship physical beauty, wearing revealing swimsuits as ceremonial garments, and her chosen hero, the Gender Bender Tachibana, is so beautiful that men will fall over him due to his presence alone, and he has to use a Perception Filter to avoid causing chaos everywhere he goes.
  • Magical Barefooter: Her barefeet are one of the most physical parts of her transluscent body.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: Since she thought looking for a dying Japanese person was too much of a bother, she just killed the first Japanese men she came across and sent them to the other world.
  • Pink Is Erotic: She's a Love Goddess who appears as a pink-haired, pink-eyed stark naked woman.
  • Psycho Pink: She has pink hair and is the Jerkass God of the series. She killed her chosen heroes to summon them to the other world and cursed them for not treating her with the respect a goddess deserves.
  • Sacred Bow and Arrows: Being a Love Goddess, she manifests a bow and arrow when she decides to kill Tachibana before sending him and Jinguuji to the other world.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: She's always completely naked because she considers nudity to be the ultimate form of beauty.

    Goddess of Night

Voiced by: Mamiko Noto (JP), Marcy Edwards (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/goddess_of_night_anime.jpg

The goddess who summoned Schwartz.

  • Antiquated Linguistics: She speaks an antiquated form of Japanese.
  • Cleavage Window: Her dress has a diamond-shaped opening that shows off her cleavage.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She represents the night and dresses in black, but both her and her hero are among the friendliest characters.
  • God of Darkness: She's the goddess who reigns over the night. When she's summoned during daytime, part of the sky turns into night.
  • Incoming Ham: When Schwartz summons her, she manifests as a giant that turns the day into night and demands the mortals to bow before her. Too bad her big entrance loses dramatic effect because she's in her pajamas.
  • Inconvenient Summons: Schwartz accidentally summons her during the day. She appears wearing a nightgown and cap, and even holding a pillow because she was sleeping.
  • Nice Girl: In sharp contrast to the Goddess of Love, she's a very nice, if eccentric goddess and has a friendly relationship with her hero.
  • Not a Morning Person: She's very sleepy when Schwartz accidentally wakes her up during daytime. Makes sense since she's a night goddess.
  • Reflectionless Useless Eyes: Her black eyes have no shine, probably because she's the goddess who represents the night.
  • Sizeshifter: She can appear as a giant and change to normal size.

    Goddess of Wind

The goddess who summoned Nazuna.

  • Blow You Away: She's the goddess who controls the wind.
  • Magical Barefooter: She's a barefoot goddess.
  • Mama Bear: Even though goddesses aren't supposed to intervene with the heroes' journey, she created a hurricane when Nazuna was sold to slavery and whipped.
  • Southern Belle: She has the classical image of a Southern Belle, complete with the fancy dress and sunhat.

    Goddess of the Sun

The goddess who summoned Lightning/Kaoru.

  • Cool Shades: She wears sunglasses and being the sun goddess gives her a big presence.
  • God of Light: She's the goddess of the sun.
  • Underboobs: She wears a revealing outfit that reveals the underside of her breasts.

    Goddess of Death

The goddess who summoned Akito.

  • Death Is a Loser: When introduced in the goddesses' meeting, she's bawling her eyes out in a rather pathetic manner while she's in chibi mode due to a recent defeat. The Goddess of the Sun even says Death has been subjected to the "humiliation of life".
  • Girlish Pigtails: She looks like a young girl with pigtails.
  • God of the Dead: She's the goddess who represents death.
  • Signature Headgear: She wears skulls to decorate her hair, which is fitting for a death goddess.

    Goddess of Chaos

A goddess whose hero got incarcerated in Prison Island, a facility made to house the worst criminals of the fantasy world. She asks the Goddess of Love to send Tachibana and Jinguuji to break her hero out of jail.

  • Eye-Obscuring Hat: She wears a hat that covers her eyes.
  • God of Chaos: She's the goddess who represents chaos.
  • "Silly Me" Gesture: She sticks their tongue out in a silly gesture when she decides to not go into details about how her hero ended up in Prison Island.

    Goddess of Order

The most organized goddess who fails to keep control over her chaotic sisters.

  • Butt-Monkey: During the the goddesses' meeting, she spends the entire time frustrated over her sisters ignoring the schedule.

  • Improbable Hairstyle: She has a drill hairstyle that sticks out from her head.

  • God of Fire: She's the goddess who represents fire.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: Over her head, she has a pair of goggles that don't seem to have any purpose other than being accessories.
  • Oral Fixation: She has a lighted match in her mouth, making it look like she's smoking.

Residents of the Fantasy World

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_telolilo.png

The chieftain of the elves of the forest. Because of Tachibana and Jinguuji's actions, the sacred guardian of her forest is killed and her forest is burnt.

  • Adaptational Modesty: In the manga, she wears a thong as part of her Stripperiffic outfit, but the anime gives her a miniskirt to preserve some of her modesty.
  • The Chew Toy: Bad things just keep happening to her.
  • Close-Call Haircut: She gets most of her hair cut off when Jinguugi throws a rock at her head and she barely dodges it. She still was upset about her hair getting ruined.
  • Pointy Ears: She has long and pointy ears as it's common in elves. She says her long ears are proof of her faith in the Goddess of Love and Beauty who wears rabbit ears.
  • Proud Beauty: She takes big pride in her beauty and is enraged by Tachibana being prettier and more popular than her.
  • Stalker without a Crush: She's been hunting after Tachibana and Jinguuji to avenge the sacred guardian's death by killing them. It also doesn't help that she's jealous of Tachibana for being prettier than her.
  • Stripperiffic: As a worshipper of the Goddess of Love and Beauty, she wears little clothing and is a decent fighter.

    Lucius

Voiced by: Eri Kitamura (JP), Terri Doty (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_lucius.png

  • Bifauxnen: She looks fairly androgynous, leading to her being mistaken for a guy until her clothes are destroyed.
  • Gender-Blender Name: "Lucius" is a masculine name, which is one of the reasons others don't realize she's a woman at first.
  • Gender-Concealing Voice: Lucius' low voice helps conceal her true gender before she's revealed to be a woman.
  • Ignored Enamored Underling: To the Lord of Mercus. When the Lord tries to ask for Tachibana to marry him, Lucius takes the Lord aside and "treats" him with a magical electric shock.
  • In Vino Veritas: She completely loses her composed attitude when she gets drunk, becoming irritable and violent.
  • Mentor Archetype: She becomes Schwartz's mentor and trains him so he can master his sword Gram.
  • So Proud of You: When Schwartz wants to do whatever he can to stop the rebel army from causing further trouble for the Ishurna kingdom, Lucius feels very proud and moved to see her apprentice has matured and is acting like a true hero now.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Her father calls her "Y-chan" ("Yggie" in the English translation).
  • Hair Intakes: Her hairstyle has a pair of "cat ears".
  • Hime Cut: She's a princess with blunt bangs, shoulder-length sidelocks, and waist length straight hair.
  • Indifferent Beauty: Her beauty is second only to Tachibana, but she's tired of people's compliments and just looks bored when Tachibana calls her the prettier one.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: While she acts like a Rebellious Princess, she's just lonely because her overly protective father kept her locked inside the castle her entire life and never let her make friends.
  • Rebellious Princess: When she has enough of her father's overprotectiveness, she outright starts a rebellion to get back at her father for using the citizens' taxes to buy a wig.
  • Rescue Introduction: In her introduction, Tachibana stops the princess from jumping off a window.
  • Suicide as Comedy: Ygraine's Interrupted Suicide is entirely Played for Laughs, mainly due to Tachibana stopping her in a panic and pulling her into what turns into a love talk about Jinguuji to make her forget about trying to kill herself.

    Yan Wasara

A thief working at the dungeon run by Akito Mori.

  • Barrier Warrior: He can create barriers that can even destroy missiles.
  • Cast from Money: He can cast spells by giving up coins and jewels as offerings to a spirit.
  • Forced into Evil: He isn't really villainous despite being a thief, but Akito placed an Explosive Leash on his neck to give him no choice but to cooperate.
  • Lovable Rogue: He's a thief, but turns out to be a quite decent guy. He even risks his life to protect Lightning and Nazuna.
  • Panty Thief: He sends his pet monkey to steal Tachibana and Jinguuji's belongings. The monkey steals Tachibana's panties while at it.
  • Redemption Earns Life: He betrays Akito and Rise by protecting Lightning and Nazuna, which activates his Explosive Leash. Fortunately, he survives thanks to Lightning's blessing since his Mook–Face Turn made him literally steal the spotlight.

    Sara

The wealthy daughter of a judge of a Supreme Court.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: At first, she seems to be polite and proper. As soon as she meets Tachibana, however, she reveals herself to be obsessive and possessive to murderous levels.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: When she falls for male Tachibana, she immediately demands him to never look at any other woman than her. She even clearly states her intention to lock him away in her house so he can be hers alone. She literally clings to Tachibana's arm as she gives a scornful look at girl Jinguuji.
  • Cute and Psycho: She's a pretty and elegant Ojou, but from the moment she meets male Tachibana, she gets obsessed with him and keeps looking at him with crazy eyes that Jinguuji finds disturbing.
  • Meal Ticket: Shen comes up with a plan to make Sara fall in love with male Tachibana, with the intention of using her father's power as a judge to get the Chaos Hero out of jail. To be fair, Tachibana does feel guilty about manipulating a young girl's feelings for him in this manner.
  • Ojou: Her father is a very wealthy and powerful judge, and she lives at a Big Fancy House.
  • Regal Ringlets: Her hair is styled in princess curls.
  • Rescue Romance: Invoked. Shen pretends to kidnap Sara to make her instantly fall in love with Tachibana when he comes to her rescue.
  • Smitten Teenage Girl: From the moment Tachibana "rescues" her, Sara falls madly in love with him and asks him to marry her before even properly introducing herself.
  • Tea Is Classy: She's a high-class lady introduced as she's enjoying her tea.
  • Yandere: She's insanely possessive of Tachibana, going as far as attempting to poison him because she would rather having him dead than seeing him with girl Jinguuji. After the attempt fails, she tries to force Tachibana to die with her.

    Tao

Sara's maid.

  • Dirty Coward: When Shen pretends to be a kidnapper, Tao panics and attempts to sell Sara out to save her own skin.
  • Fair-Weather Friend: Tao acts like a devoted servant and friend to Sara, yet she's quick to throw Sara under the bus to save her own skin when Shen appears to "kidnap" them. Later, she sells Sara out when her scheme to poison Tachibana is discovered.
  • Meido: She works as Sara's maid.

The first Demon King's general introduced.

  • Embarrassing Nickname: Kalm mocks her by calling "Vizzd the Weakest".
  • Evil Wears Black: She's a Demon King's general and her clothes are black.
  • Gender-Concealing Voice: In her introduction, Vizzd is inside a giant armor that makes her voice sound masculine because of a distortion filter. Her real voice is quite feminine.
  • Hair Antennae: Two of her hair strands stick up like antennae.
  • Ignored Enemy: In the middle of her first fight, Jinguuji starts to completely ignore Vizzd attacking him as he gets into an argument with Tachibana about the cosplay outfits he would like to see Tachibana wear.
  • Red Baron: She calls herself "Vizzd the Incomparably Skilled".
  • Samus Is a Girl: Vizzd is introduced riding a giant armor suit. When she comes out of the armor, she's revealed to be a young-looking girl.

    Kalm

A general who specializes in stealth and infiltration.

  • Crippling Overspecialization: Her skills are only useful for undercover stealth missions and brainwashing. In direct combat, however, she's effectively useless.
  • Hair Antennae: Like Vizzd, two of her hair strands form an antennae in her head.
  • Leotard of Power: As a general, she wears a leotard.
  • The Mole: She disguises herself as Princess Ygraine's head maid to infiltrate the castle and manipulate the princess' rebellion.
  • One-Way Visor: She wears a visor that covers her eyes.

    Rise

A large and muscular general that Tachibana and Jinguuji encounter at a dungeon. He also recruited Akito Mori, one of the heroes, to eliminate the other heroes.

  • Affably Evil: Despite working for the Demon King's army, Rise is very cheerful, laidback and amicable to allies and enemies alike.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: After Jinguuji defeats him, Rise reminisces on his partnership with Akito and realizes they were true friends despite him having brainwashed Akito and used him for his own plans. The feeling is mutual as Akito admits he did want to spend more time with Rise and is saddened by Rise's apparent demise.
  • Ambiguously Bi: He flirts with both Tachibana and Jinguuji, even openly stating to like both of them. It's unknown whether he's seriously attracted to them or just trying to get on Jinguuji's nerves.
  • Arc Villain: He's the main villain of the Dungeon arc.
  • Brains and Brawn: While Rise is The Brute of the Demon King's army, Akito is a Dungeon Master who tries to use traps to kill the other heroes instead of fighting them directly like Rise does.
  • The Brute: He's the self-proclaimed greatest muscle in the Demon King's army and is the only one who can match Jinguuji's Super-Strength.
  • The Corrupter: He uses some sort of brainwashing to influence Jinguuji and amplify his lust and jealousy towards Tachibana, which causes Jinguuji to attack Lightning and almost force himself on Tachibana.
  • Disney Death: At the end of the dungeon arc, it looks like Rise dies from his wounds after Jinguuji uses the goddess' power to defeat him. Afterwards, Rise turns out to be alive, but reduced to Sleep-Mode Size because he used up all his power.
  • Evil Is Hammy: Even among the villains, Rise has a larger than life attitude.
  • Ignored Enemy: When fighting Jinguuji, Tachibana unofficially calls for a timeout to force Jinguuji to be more honest about his desires since he needs to do it to win the fight. Tachibana even confesses to be in love with Jinguuji and kisses him on the forehead, all while Rise is standing right there and watching he romantic scene in shock.
  • Lust: In the dungeon, people's strength increases the more they give into their desires. Rise is at his strongest because he's openly lustful and can use a brainwashing spell to try and influence Jinguuji to act on his suppressed lust for Tachibana.
  • Magic Kiss: His forehead kiss has a brainwashing effect that briefly makes Jinguuji lose control of his desires over Tachibana.
  • No Shirt, Long Jacket: He wears a Badass Longcoat with no shirt underneath.
  • Precious Photo: He keeps a photo of the baby Demon King in a locket.
  • Spikes of Villainy: His Badass Longcoat has spikes on the shoulders.
  • "Take That!" Kiss: He kisses Jinguuji on the forehead to provoke him further.
  • Torso with a View: Jinguuji's love beam blasts a hole through Rise's torso.
  • Villainous Friendship: With Akito. They partnered up to build a dungeon and get rid of the heroes. Although Rise admits he used Akito for his own goals, both admit they did have fun together and genuinely thought of each other as friends.
