"NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A [[BIG SHOT]]!!"

An unhinged salesman living in a dumpster who makes deals with Kris and tries to take their soul to become a "[[BIG SHOT]]". He provides an optional sidequest that leads you to the Superboss of Chapter 2, and has a major role in the Weird Route, both while fueling his own agenda. He is the second of the Holders of the Shadow Crystals, and unlike his predecessor Jevil, has more importance to the plot of his chapter.

NOW HAS HIS OWN [Self-Demonstrating Page] FOR THE LOW PRICE OF YOUR [Rapidly-Shrinking] LIFE!

Spamton himself

    A-C
  • Acid Pool: He envisions his and Kris's future of becoming [[BIG SHOT]]s as "VACATIONING IN [Burning acid] WHILE YOU SOAK IN THE [[Hyperlink Blocked]]".
  • Affably Evil: Zig-zagged in the normal route (or if you abort a Weird Route). Spamton tries to act like a personable salesman at all times, but his tone jumps from genuine affability to self-serving sleaziness and, after he possesses the NEO body, to murderous insanity. First, Spamton offers Kris a scheme to help both "hit it '[BIG]'", as long as you follow his ominous instructions; however, while doing so, he treats Kris like either an old pal or a trusted customer who he has known for a long time. Following him becoming Spamton NEO, however, he tries to kill Kris and take their SOUL so they can both reach past "HEAVEN", an offer seemingly mixed between self-serving desires to genuinely helping Kris escape from being "a heart on a chain" for their whole lives. He switches back to "genuinely affable" again during the pacifist outcome, giving up when he realizes the gang was cutting at his wires, and changes his tune into appreciating their help, seemingly in a twisted perversion of Undertale's concept. Finally, his final Rousing Speech before turning into an item to help you has both traces of gratitude for trying to help him (pacifist outcome) and/or respect for the party's strength (violent outcome).
  • Alas, Poor Villain: After you beat him in a neutral route, if you go back to talk to Swatch or the Addisons, they lament his ultimate fate. Swatch says he was once a valued customer, and the Addisons, despite having abandoned him in the past, are still heartbroken by the news of his apparent demise.
  • Alternate Character Reading: In the Japanese version, the "WRECK" and "PAUSE" VCR icons that appear during Spamton NEO's ultimate attack are translated as "殺エイ中" and "テイ死", respectively incorporating alternate readings of the kanji for "kill" and "death," tying in with Spamton's habit of replacing instances of "dai" and "desu" with the English words "die" and "death."
  • Amazing Technicolor Battlefield: His NEO fight in the Weird Route has the glowing, rainbow-colored Dark Fountain in the background.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Like the Addisons, Spamton's design is humanoid, but with an abnormal skin color — chalk-white in this case. Furthermore, if you talk to Spamton about "OUR DEAL" after buying the KeyGen, he will proclaim "KEYGEN" and oscillate between various colors while dramatic chiptune music plays, referencing common elements of keygen programs in the warez scene and particularly their use in the YouTube Poop "The King Downloads Sony Vegas".
  • Ambidextrous Sprite: The colors of his glasses (yellow and pink) sometimes swap as he turns around. In his regular form's battle, they even switch when he attacks (which doesn't involve flipping his sprite).
  • Ambiguously Related:
    • The TV from The Stinger of Chapter 2 might have connections to Spamton, given his talk about turning "THOSE [Cathode Screens] INTO [Cathode Screams]", him claiming that he and Kris don't need CRTs, as well as the fact he got TV deals during his big shot days. The most common interpretation at the time was the TV actually being the mysterious Mike that Spamton mentions in his shop and if beaten through violence on the Normal Route, considering that Spamton warns Kris not to "BELIEVE [[Anything You See On TV!]]" before outing Mike as a criminal. The Spamton Sweepstakes then had further instances of Spamton cursing televised media, making a clear distinction between Mike and somebody named "Tenna", who was the actual cause of his downfall; by his reaction in the Q&A, Mike may have actually been another victim.
    • Unused dialogue in the game's code shows that Noelle finds Spamton's shop "nostalgic" and the Dealmaker glasses "familiar". She also claims in this unused text that the Frayed Bowtie you can buy at Spamton's shop reminds her of Asgore. The Spamton Sweepstakes event elaborated on this connection: a number of blog posts from Noelle mentions a Raising Sim called "Cat Petterz 2" that has a "Sympton family pack". It implies the oddly cat-elemental Spamton was a "Special" modded egg gifted to her by "The Man Behind the Tree" (his hidden page links into Noelle's "Egg" post) who hatched and happily left from how well she treated him but before she could even see what he looks like. However, in the end of an in-character Q&A session Spamton denies being related to her, stating he only gifted her a Pipis because she was the only person who read his e-mails.
  • Ambiguous Syntax: During the Spamton NEO battle, the flavor text will occasionally mention how "it" pulls his strings and makes them ring. As the text usually indicates that it's Spamton who does his gestures "to the audience", the choice to use "it" may not be referring to Spamton, but something else.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Won't shut up about his desire to become a [BIG SHOT!!], and his downfall started as a result of a Faustian partnership with a mysterious caller to achieve fame. In both routes, he seeks to upgrade himself into a monstrously powerful form in Queen's basement. In a normal playthrough, he seeks to claim Kris's soul to reach "HEAVEN," implied to be the Light World or something even worse. In the Weird Route, he takes it a step further, using his and the Soul's corruption of Noelle and her ensuing rampage to take over the Dark World, which he gloats now belongs to him. Going by the fact that he only attacks Kris due to them moving on to seal the Fountain, it's implied he had similar plans for the Light World.
  • Anaphora: He lets out one just before his first use of his face attack as Spamton NEO on the normal route:
Spamton NEO: KRIS! CAN YOU REALLY LOOK IN MY [Eyes] AND SAY NO!?
    LOOK IN MY [Eyes]
    LOOK IN MY [Nose]
    LOOK IN MY [Mouth]
  • And I Must Scream: His friends and Anonymous Benefactor abandoned him, his sales crashed and burned because of that, and now he's a raving, homeless madman — and unlike Jevil, Spamton knows how insane and powerless he is, but can't do a thing about it. He gets Kris to upload him into the NEO body in the hopes that it would grant him freedom, only to find himself becoming a literal puppet on strings.
  • Animal Motifs:
    • Spamton is associated with avian motifs, underscoring his connection to the birdlike Swatch. His Gag Nose in his default appearance resembles a bird's beak, and in his NEO form, he acquires a pair of large wings, his pompadour becomes a featherlike crest, and his overall appearance resembles that of a mechanical Tengu. In this form, he produces blue robin-like eggs called "Pipis" which hatch into smaller versions of himself, and his live action doppelganger Spamton A. Spamton refers to making a nest out of a Pipis Bath Rug. He also has a few lines alluding to flight, which metaphorically ties into his desire to be free and "reach heaven", something he is ultimately incapable of, leaving him a crippled, flightless bird.
HERE I GO!!!! WATCH ME FLY, [MAMA]!!!!
    • He also has odd ties to cats, as people figured out through the Mannequin that Spamton does the same damage type as Tasques and Tasque Manager. This was expanded on in the Spamton Sweepstakes event, where he says that he gave Noelle a glitched egg for a virtual pet game called "Cat Petterz 2" and revealed that his elemental similarities to the Tasques is because cats and puppets share an element... for some reason.
  • Anonymous Benefactor: His shortcomings as a salesman suddenly stopped when he began following the advice of an anonymous caller, who told him everything he needed to skyrocket in popularity. Deconstructed, since he never bothered to care about said benefactor's motivations, and focused on what they were offering. It apparently came to a head when Spamton began questioning their motives, and was evicted from Queen's premises while the phone he was using transmitted nothing but "garbage noise", something usually associated with Gaster.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: Spamton is a spam bot given life and personality by the library fountain. Fittingly, he spends all of chapter two trying to sell Kris garbage or exploit them for his own personal gain.
  • Arc Number: 1997. He introduces himself as "Number 1 Rated Salesman1997", randomly through his first battle he'll mumble the number to himself, the slogan he spits at you when telling you the whereabouts of what becomes his NEO form is copyrighted 1997, on the Weird Route he sells you the ThornRing for 1997 KROMER, and then during his Spamton NEO fight at the end of the Weird Route he states he sold you the ring at the price of "[his] Favorite Year".
  • Arc Villain: Along with the player for Chapter 2's Weird Route, helping Kris turn Noelle into a weapon so he can enter Queen's mansion, become NEO, and take over the Cyber World. He takes Queen's place as the chapter's final boss when the player tries to seal the Dark Fountain, as this would cut his reign short.
  • Arc Words: "Big", mostly about becoming a "BIG SHOT". When he was still an ordinary salesman, he was looking for his "big break", and aspired to get big TV deals, big cars, big commercials. Now, he's given the term a new meaning, focused on becoming "BIGGER" to see past "Heaven".
  • Armor-Piercing Question: During his Superboss battle, he asks Kris if they intend to live their life as a "heart on a chain." After the battle, Kris is acknowledged as being visibly distraught for some reason.
  • Ascended Glitch: In what's either a glitch or a debug tool, the player can instantly charge shots by holding the Enter key. Toby Fox didn't remove this exploit and instead added a "funnycheat" variable in the 1.05 update to keep track of how much the player exploited it. In the 1.06 update, Spamton NEO will notice if you try to use the exploit during his battle, which causes him to get really angry and his attacks to hit harder.
  • Asshole Victim: On the Weird route, in contrast to the normal route, Spamton NEO is a Jerkass who makes constantly condescending and hypocritical remarks towards the party, blaming Kris and/or the player for everything despite being an active enabler of the slaughter of his fellow Darkners. As such, his end is sudden and unceremonious, with no tears shed for his fate.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance:
    • Spamton's design and overall character contain several references to Pinocchio, whose nose expands whenever he lies. Spamton's nose just so happens to be perpetually large, symbolizing his insincerity as a salesperson.
    • The body of Spamton NEO clashes with the head, being comprised of basic shapes with no shading. According to Swatch when talked to after Spamton NEO's defeat, a Lightner (who is all but stated to be Deltarune's incarnation of Mettaton) was in the library computer lab using Swatch's graphic software to doodle a hypothetical body while using the fill tool a lot. This perfectly describes a basic drawing done in software such as MSPaint with just a mouse.
    • He resembles a ventriloquist dummy and in his NEO form turns into a robotic marionette with electrical wires forming its strings. This references his Spambot nature, in that they pose as actual humans, and that he is always dependent on someone else to be big.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Interruption: Does this to himself near constantly. Phrases in brackets, while implied to not be part of his "default" speech, are usually relevant to his current subject, a humorous substitution, or a mildly disturbing nonsequitir.
  • Ax-Crazy: To say Spamton is murderously unhinged would be an understatement. His introduction involves him essentially attempting to murder Kris while babbling on about making a "deal".
Spamton: (Kris refuses third deal offer) DEAL OR NO DEAL, THAT'S THE TV SHOW
WHERE THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T TAKE THE DEAL
GET FILLED WITH BULLETS FIRED FROM THE HOST'S MOUTH!!!
  • The Backwards Я: Implied. During his tirade that occurs after his defeat if you max out your inventory, he lets out a series of increasingly distorted Big "WHY?!": "[Why] DID YOU DO THIS!? WHY!? [Y]!? [Yellow]!? [Gamma]!?" The lowercase Greek letter gamma ("γ") looks very similar to a "Y", which is likely why Spamton's speech devolved in that manner.
  • Baddie Flattery:
    • He can't help but refer to Kris as a "Little Sponge" when they're both helping and fighting him.
    • In the Japanese localization, he calls them "Kris-sama", the same way one would address their customers.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: In the pacifist ending to his Superboss fight. At this point in the game, Spamton has lied to you, betrayed you, tried to kill you and your friends, and openly declared his intent to steal your SOUL; at first it seems like he's regretting all that, but instead:
Spamton: KRIS... YOU... YOU'RE [Gifting] ME MY [Freedom]?!
KRIS... AFTER EVERYTHING I DID TO YOU...!?
AFTER ALL THE [Unforgettable D3als] [Free KROMER] I GAVE YOU
    YOU'RE FINALLY REPAYING MY [Genorisity]!?
  • The Barnum: He's abandoned all notions of being a good salesman and sarcastically calls himself an "INNOCENT [Guy]" and "[HonestMan]" who's trying to "[Rip People Off]". You can see just how much of a conman he is at his improvised shop, and despite everything about him being off, he still has the potential to get pretty far with his schemes anyway.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Noelle was the only person to click on his spam emails, and he repaid her smidge of attention after falling from grace with an egg. Unfortunately, this egg corrupted one of Noelle's save files for the game "Cat Petterz 2," but she found the glitches entertaining nonetheless.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For:
    • All his life, he's only ever wanted to reach out and make it big for himself, and when he got what he wanted, he lost his friends. Taking the anonymous calls for granted, he then lost his sales, his reputation, his spot in Queen's ranks, and eventually his sanity.
    • His last goal upon becoming Spamton NEO is to find a way to get rid of the strings controlling his body; after failing to convince Kris to give him their SOUL, he attempts to take it by force. Kris, Susie, and Ralsei break his strings, but his hope is unceremoniously dashed when the last wire is destroyed and he collapses like a puppet with its strings cut.
  • Become a Real Boy: Befitting his theme of being a puppet. With all his talk about getting "[[BIGGER]]" with the SOUL and extending past "[HEAVEN]", it's heavily implied that Spamton's recent goal of becoming a "BIG SHOT" isn't just to obtain power, but to stop being part of the machinations of Deltarune's world by transforming into something greater. He also says this phrase nearly word-for-word upon being Pacified, and it's even referenced in the title of the track that plays for that scene.
  • Behind the Black: The line "It pulls the strings and makes them ring" comes up a few times during the fight with Spamton NEO, namely as an occasional piece of flavor text and being said by the muttering voice in the background music. These imply that Spamton's puppet strings aren't just symbolic, but that there's something or someone controlling him just off the screen.
  • Being Watched: Both for himself and for Kris and the Player.
    • If asked about the Knight, he'll start explaining what he knows, only to have his sprite scrambled as he profusely apologizes for trying to talk about something he shouldn't have, while dropping his usual speech patterns. Suddenly, he comes back yelling about a completely irrelevant tangent. This replaces the dialogue option with "FRIENDS".
    • When asked about "FEAR", he claims there's nothing to fear, but suddenly transmits a message from somewhere else, possibly by someone else. When he regains consciousness, he claims to not have heard anything… except for a message that might have been for "you".
    • As you progress through the mansion's basement, you might see a face in the dark with pink and yellow eyes sporting a wide grin, which only appears for half a second onscreen before fading away.
    • Before his battle as Spamton NEO, he asks if [HEAVEN] is watching what's going on. After the fight, if he was pacified, he refers to [HEAVEN] again and hopes they're witnessing his attempt at freedom with his newfound friends. A violent end to the battle instead has him ask if "Mike" is seeing this as well.
  • Berserk Button: Spamming charged shots on him via exploits will cause him to become fume with rage (complete with train whistles), deal more damage, and occasionally use more difficult attacks.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He might be Laughably Evil incarnate and an obvious parody of Snake Oil Salesmen and Honest Johns Dealerships, but don't let that fool you; This guy can terrify Kris practically every time he's on-screen, and proves on the Weird Route that he might be one of the most dangerous and evil characters in the entire series if given the right amount of help. He came closer to killing Kris than anyone else, including the Arc Villains King and Queen.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: In the Weird Route, he clearly fancies himself as being the No Mercy!Chara to Kris/Noelle's Frisk; he plays a major role in facilitating Noelle's corruption, including helping the player keep track of how many residents of the City they've killed and giving Noelle the ThornRing, allowing her to kill Berdly; in the resulting chaos, he all but performs a coup on Queen, littering her castle with his Pipis and remaking it in his own design while most of the workers remain trapped in their rooms, and Queen is preoccupied with Noelle and unable to rule. Much like Chara, he stays hidden throughout most of the route until he ambushes you at the very end, clearly intending to tie up loose ends and fully cement his control. Unfortunately for him, he learns too late that he's not the Chara of this story, but rather the Flowey; after a grueling boss fight, the player summons Noelle, who flattens him in under a second.
  • Blatant Lies: He rather commonly implies that he does know the Knight, but when asked in the Spamton Sweepstakes charity event, he claims to not know them.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality:
    • To spare him during his first encounter, you have to take the right dialogue choices to progress his Spare gauge. Naturally, you'd want to accept his "deal" since he's an embodiment of spam advertisements. In actuality, the right choice is to deny the deal every time he asks for payment in return, as he'll approve of it and admit that he isn't a salesman for the money, but for the sake of being a skilled businessman. When he pitches you a deal to become a [BIG SHOT], though, you have no choice but to accept, as he outright refuses to take "no" for an answer.
    • His plan to hijack the robot in the basement, then take the SOUL for himself, is seemingly an odd mix between self-serving motivations and actually believing that doing so is going to help Kris earn "FREEDOM" too. He becomes remorseful after defeat in a normal route, especially during the Pacifist outcome, though it is also shown in the Weird Route that he won't hold any compunctions about helping Kris and Noelle massacre his fellow Cyber World Darkners when an opportunity arises.
  • Blush Sticker: Spamton has bright red spots on his cheeks that resemble blush, and which disappear when he's particularly upset. He loses the red spots for good when he migrates into his Spamton NEO body.
  • Boss Remix: His first battle theme, "NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A", is an Instrumental Hip Hop remix of "Spamton", the song that plays during his pre-battle cutscene. It, in turn, gets an intense rock remix titled "BIG SHOT" for his Spamton NEO battle.
  • Bowdlerise:
    • Uses modified swear words in some of his speech, such as "Cungadero" (which he uses as both an exclamation and the name of a vehicle) being a modification of "Chingadero" ("shitload" in Mexican Spanish) and "Hochi Mama" being a modification of "Hoochie Mama" (slang for a promiscuous woman).
    • At random intervals throughout the Spamton Sweepstakes event, his Electronic Speech Impediment sometimes censors ass as "@$$." Doesn't stop him from saying the word normally outright.
  • Brain Uploading: Spamton is able to transfer his consciousness onto the EmptyDisk, in turn using it to load himself into the robot in the basement in order to become Spamton NEO.
  • Breakout Character: Despite the sheer amount of lore and backstory he gets, unless you follow a few certain storylines that are easy to miss, he'll only show up once throughout the entirety of Chapter 2. This didn't stop him from becoming one of the most popular characters in the game, to the point that the seventh anniversary celebrations for Undertale (which also doubled as a first anniversary celebration for Chapter 2) were based entirely around him, featuring him literally taking over the official Deltarune website and Fangamer's Twitter page and giving viewers deeper insight into his character.
  • Brick Joke:
    • His catchphrase and insistence on being and becoming a "big shot" leads to his Superboss fight, where he reintroduces the Yellow SOUL, retaining its normal shooting mechanic… in addition to a Charged Attack for a literal "Big Shot." He points this out after your first use of it.
    • The description of S.POTION in his shop is "ITEM AFFECTS HP A LOT! THE SMOOTH TASTE OF". If you decide to use Check on Spamton NEO, he finishes the last sentence, making it "THE SMOOTH TASTE OF NEO"; he also says the phrase near the end of his fight on both routes.
  • But Thou Must!: At the end of his first fight, he offers you a "final deal" and reassures you that it's up to you; he won't force you. Choosing "no deal" has him just say "WRONG" and make you choose again until you accept.
  • Call a Hit Point a "Smeerp": He refers to the Dark Dollars as "KROMER".
  • Call-Back: For his boss fight as Spamton NEO, he brings back the rollercoaster-style battlefield that Berdly introduced earlier in the chapter. Defeat him by FIGHTing, and he tries to brush off his emanating "[Victory Smoke]" as a sign of him changing into a stronger form, before exploding. This recalls Berdly claiming his car was emitting "Smart Smoke" to show him becoming stronger, only to have it blow up in his face.
  • Card-Carrying Jerkass: He freely admits he's screwing people over, although he goes berserk when the player tries "TO [$!$!] [him] OVER RIGHT AT THE [Good part]" and initiates his Superboss battle.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: On the Weird Route. While his motivation on the Normal Route seems to be based off Blue-and-Orange Morality and a belief he will genuinely help Kris become free, Spamton proudly admits on the Weird Route he sold you the ThornRing, a literal torture device, while being damn aware you would use it to kill even more people, as if your current body count wasn't enough.
  • Cardboard Box Home: Spends his days living in a dumpster and his makeshift shop in the middle of a junkyard.
  • Cash Gate: Played with. You need to buy a KeyGen from him in order to continue his sidequest. However, Spamton's prices change every second, so getting an affordable deal is a matter of timing, as the KeyGen usually costs a nigh-unaffordable 5-digit amount of KROMER (which is just another name for Dark Dollars). Fortunately, every tenth price offer is significantly cheaper than usual; if you time it right, you can get a 3-digit price, a 2-digit price, or even zero.
  • Character Catchphrase: "[[BIG SHOT]]".
  • Chase Fight: His Spamton NEO fight brings back the roller coaster battlefield Berdly introduces, but instead of ramming into him, his battle revolves around your SOUL firing back at the projectiles he sends.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Unlike Jevil, you can encounter Spamton in the story proper as a miniboss. With how downright bizarre the whole thing is, the player might be tempted to just forget him entirely… and then he turns out to be the superboss.
  • The Chessmaster: Spamton shows how brilliant he truly is in the Weird Route. Taking advantage of Kris and Noelle's rampage across the Cyber World, he at first assists them in their slaughter, before giving them the ThornRing. While the two are distracted while fighting Berdly, Spamton barges into Queen's Mansion, takes it over with no resistance, locks all the butlers away in the cafes, possibly brainwashes Tasque Manager, and enters the basement. By the time the Delta Warriors arrive, it's too late to stop him, as the basement door is locked and he's in the middle of becoming Spamton NEO. He also shows himself to be powerful and competent enough to almost kill Kris. His dialogue if defeated through violence in the normal route also shows he's not an Opportunistic Bastard, as he's been thinking of it for a while.
Spamton: YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE ALL THAT EARLIER! AND BEEN THE FIRST TO OWN MY [Commemorative Ring] TOO BAD! SEE YOU KID!
  • Clickbait Gag: Plenty of his lexicon is lifted from this style of grabbing attention, almost by default, with constant offers for whatever "Hyperlink Blocked" represents. He even has moments where he and the narration are asking you to "subscribe".
  • Clipped-Wing Angel: Spamton's NEO form is significantly stronger than his normal body, but it's severely limited by the wires suspending it from the ceiling. Said wires can't be removed without deactivating the body. And when he tries to transform into Spamton EX on being defeated violently in the normal route, he straight-up explodes instead.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Spamton is decidedly deranged and eccentric, what with his tendency to speak in Caps Lock, the regular interruptions of ad-based jargon in brackets, and his obsession with being a [[BIG SHOT]]. He also immediately knows Kris's name despite them never introducing themselves.
  • Color Motif: His shades are colored yellow and pink. In Undertale, a monster's name will appear yellow or pink (the latter can be activated through a hidden dialogue option) to indicate that they're able to be spared, and indeed, you get his shades by sparing him.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist:
    • In comparison to Jevil.
      • Both desired freedom, end up hidden away at the basement of the chapter's penultimate location, and have ties to a shopkeepers, with friends lamenting what became of them.
      • While Jevil is far more confident and comfortable with his understanding of the world being a game, Spamton is distinctly… less okay with it all, and seems to be much more at the mercy of his vanished Anonymous Benefactor.
      • Jevil is almost completely hidden from the main story and you never meet him at all outside of the context of his boss battle, while you encounter Spamton halfway through Chapter 2's storyline, and you can converse with him and even visit his shop.
      • Jevil, while undeniably lethal, acts as if he is simply playing a game, whereas Spamton makes his murderous intent in his boss fight extremely clear and personal.
      • They share a desire for "freedom", but differ in that Jevil believes the world inside his prison cell is true "freedom", where Spamton instead seeks to cut the strings controlling him, only to end up less free than before.
      • While both of them pass on their power to the party after being defeated, Jevil parts with ominous portents and laughter, in contrast to how Spamton's story ends in despair when he has his dream of freedom ripped from his grasp.
      • Jevil is an entirely new character, whereas Spamton has several unnerving similarities to Mettaton, along with his NEO form being almost identical to Mettaton NEO from the neck down.
      • Jevil resembles a devil with his name even being a portmanteau of "jester" and "devil", while Spamton makes several references to "heaven", transforms into an angel-like form when he becomes NEO, and spawns healing cherubs if the player presses F1 during either of his boss fights.
    • In comparison to Mettaton:
      • Spamton NEO's boss fight is one to Mettaton. Both are prominent celebrities in their communities, recognized for their bombastic personalities, and both assume robotic forms labeled "EX" and "NEO". Their biggest plan is to take the player character's SOUL to satisfy their craving for the attention of an audience, and when fighting them, they introduce the Yellow SOUL function. More specifically, Spamton acts as this for Mettaton NEO — simply by being a legitimate challenge and not a straight up joke like Mettaton NEO. He makes up for the joke at the end of the violent route's battle with an attempt to change into "Spamton EX", which causes him to self-destruct instead. Mettaton abandons his ambitions when he realizes he has friends waiting for him, while Spamton has long-since disregarded his former friends, until the Pacifist outcome, where The Power of Friendship is Parodied. And, unlike Mettaton, Spamton lacks true agency, which is why he seeks Kris's SOUL. Also, while Mettaton is (presumably) a Glass Cannon in his NEO form, Spamton NEO is a Lightning Bruiser who can become a Stone Wall as a last resort (albeit in the Weird route only).
      • Their roles in their games' respective "bad" routes differ greatly. While Mettaton is an egotistical piece of work, he ultimately decides to buy Alphys more time to evacuate other monsters during the Genocide route even though he knows he's no match for Frisk, sacrificing himself in the process as NEO. By contrast, Spamton is more than willing to sell out his fellow Darkners in the Weird route, keeping count of the amount of Darkners Noelle has frozen before selling Kris the ThornRing, allowing Noelle to use the fatal SnowGrave. Amongst the chaos, he takes over Queen's Mansion and, as NEO, fights Kris tooth and nail to keep the fountain open so he can revel in his newfound glory, all while mocking Kris for manipulating Noelle. He remains Defiant to the End as he's only defeated once Noelle suddenly shows up and kill him.
  • Cool Shades: The Dealmaker is a pair of sunglasses he gives you for helping him cut his strings, and when equipped, they greatly increase money earned from battles.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: Spamton resembles Pinocchio in appearance and characterization, being a long-nosed puppet who wants to become "real", but falls for a false benefactor. Unlike Pinocchio, Spamton is never rescued by his friends after he faces the consequences of his actions, leaving him an abandoned and insane wreck who’s left reconsidering what it means to become “real” and strives to become a "big shot" by any means necessary. Ironically this results in Spamton taking cues from "Honest" John Foulfellow when dealing with Kris.
  • The Corrupter: Urges Kris to follow his plans to become a "Big Shot", and in the hidden Weird Route of Chapter 2, encourages you to push Noelle into becoming stronger - by massacring the citizens of the Cyber City.
  • Crazy Homeless People: Spamton was the number-one rated salesman back in the day with the help of a mysterious voice on the telephone. But after trying to "see too far" for his own good, everything crashed and burned around him. By the time the player first meets him, he's been reduced to living inside a dumpster, still babbling about the glory days and trying to strike deals even as he tries to take Kris's soul for himself. As the superboss of Chapter 2, he manages to become even less lucid.
  • Critical Failure:
    • At one point towards the end of his boss fight, Spamton NEO picks up the phone, ready to launch Pipis at the party, only to realize the call isn't for Kris this time; it's for him. He's promptly blasted in the face with his own head-projectiles, wasting his turn.
    • If you destroy the eyes, nose, and mouth of his "face" attack pattern, he will be unable to launch any bullets whatsoever the next time he uses the attack, giving you a free turn. However, the next time the attack shows up, the face will be good as new.
  • Cross-Referenced Titles: His initial battle theme is called "NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A", while his NEO battle theme is titled "BIG SHOT".
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Much like Berdly in the Weird Route, he gets frozen to death by Noelle - although unlike Berdly, he absolutely deserves it after what he's done.
  • Cuckoosnarker: It's very easy to dismiss his ramblings as that of a crazed and broken Living Program, but denying his "deal" shows he's capable of assembling his broken speech into passionate urging for you take his offer. He keeps his glitchy dialogue pattern when he becomes Spamton NEO, both when trying to talk Kris into giving up the SOUL during his normal fight and when demeaning them and Noelle at the end of the Weird Route, to disturbing effect.

    D-H
  • Darkest Hour: During the Spamton NEO fight in the Weird route, once Kris whittles his HP down to 10%, Spamton will activate NEO's high defense/low attack trade, doing far less damage and only using easy-to-dodge attacks, but impossible to defeat. In a desperate attempt to take him down, Kris tries to call their friends for help... but nobody came. As Spamton mocks Kris for relying on their friends, "you" call for Noelle, causing her to appear and take him out in under a second.
  • Dark Reprise:
    • Spamton NEO's arrival is heralded by "Deal Gone Wrong", a slowed-down version of his original pre-battle theme, "Spamton".
    • "BIG SHOT", the battle theme for Spamton NEO, is a ominous, dramatic remix of his rather funky original battle theme, "NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A".
    • At the end of Spamton's final boss fight in the Snowgrave route, a sped-up version of the aforementioned "Deal Gone Wrong" plays as the player calls for help. This specific variation is not present in the OST, either.
  • Deadly Euphemism: Apparently, "work out" seems to be Spamton's way of saying murder, as he calls your killing spree during the Weird Route a Friday-night work out when talking to him in the dumpster.
  • Deal with the Devil: Spamton's initial wager to Kris is presented analogously to one, offering them unspoken benefits in exchange for their SOUL. Spamton himself is also stated to have undertook one in the past: after ages of struggling as a failed salesman, he suddenly received immense fame and fortune with the help of an unknown voice on the telephone. However, he did so at the cost of his friends, and saw everything crash down once he tried to "see too far," being reduced to an even lowlier position than before by the time he meets Kris.
  • Death Is the Only Option: No matter the route you fight him in in his Spamton NEO form, he will always die, or at the very least lose his physical body. Defeating him violently in Neutral will result in him trying to transform into Spamton EX, which only results in him exploding, while cutting all the wires but one results in him celebrating his freedom and thanking the team for their help, only to collapse without his strings. Meanwhile, in the Weird route, he's frozen to death by Noelle. All three outcomes end with him becoming a piece of equipment that the player can use.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: If defeated violently in his non-Weird route fight, he tries to transform into Spamton EX just to continue the fight. Unfortunately for him, this only causes him
  • Demonic Dummy:
    • He has an appearance akin to a marionette's, especially in his second form. He calls himself a "long-nosed doll", and his theme is similar to circus music.
    • There's a mannequin you can buy from one of the Addisons for $300 that greatly resembles Spamton, down to having the same distinct pointed nose and swooped hair. If you buy and equip it, it has the hidden effect of reducing Spamton's damage during his NEO battles by 35%, which only other Spamton-related items like Dealmaker or the Frayed Bowtie can do. Additionally, if you don't buy the mannequin and you have the LoadedDisk (the disk that Spamton downloads himself into) in your inventory, you can interact with the mannequin and are given the option to insert the disk into it, but the disk squirms and refuses to fit.
    • He's also actually aware of his status as a puppet, and it's his driving motivation that's especially shown off in his Normal Route NEO boss fight, where he's driven to obtain a body he can be free in and is enraged when he sees he's still strung up, this time in a literal sense. Cutting him free from his puppet strings kills him, showing that in the end, there wasn't any hope for him to be anything else.
  • Depraved Dwarf: Unlike his fellow Addisons, who are slightly taller than the main protagonists, Spamton is just barely shorter than Kris and is depicted as unstable and manipulative, especially during the Weird Route.
  • Determinator: Spamton is many things, but someone to give up, he is not. When he was a nobody hanging out with his fellow Addisons, he wouldn't stop talking about how he will be a big shot, and although he became desperate over time, he never gave up no matter how unsuccessful his attempts were, and he eventually made it big - for a while. When he lost everything he ever had and was reduced to an insane homeless man who was either hated or ignored by anyone he's ever known, he still didn't give up and continued to strive to regain his fame and power. He had at least two plans in mind for how to get back at everyone who wronged him (ranging from asking someone to upload him into a new body to assisting in the mass murder of his own people), and both work out in the end. He seems to finally hit the Despair Event Horizon after the end of his Neutral Route boss fight where the last shreds of his hope are ripped away, but still decides to help the Delta Warriors by joining them as a piece of equipment.
  • Developer's Foresight:
    • He has extra dialogue if you buy the ThornRing from him, abort the Weird Route, and then defeat him with violence in his miniboss fight. While he'll normally urge you to buy his "[Commemorative Ring]", he'll instead acknowledge it as part of a rant against you.
    • If you have a full inventory when you beat him on a normal route, the item he rewards you with is placed in a chest outside, just like Jevil before him. Unlike Jevil, he'll react to a full inventory, becoming enraged at Kris somehow managing to pack their inventory full, since doing so requires either conscious intent or implausibly extreme recklessness, and tries to use a Precision F-Strike before storming off.
    • If you attempt to buy the ThornRing with a full inventory, Spamton will comment how much room for weapons the player has… and how they've managed to fill all of it, preventing you from buying the ring.
  • Digital Abomination: He gained consciousness about the artificiality of the game he's in and is trying to ascend to "HEAVEN" by hijacking a powerful robotic body stored among corrupted data. When he finds himself still trapped, he attempts to take Kris's SOUL by force in order to reach "HEAVEN."
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Comes with Kris (and potentially Noelle) encountering such a sleazy salesman in the dumpsters of Cyber City.
    • He offers to make an unsuspecting Kris a "Big Shot" with "[Hyperlink Blocked]" when they meet in an alleyway, asking for money or otherwise. Not only that, but being a sentient clickbaiting and e-mail-spamming program, "[Hyperlink Blocked]" can stand for all kinds of questionable content.
    • Following the Poppups' earlier examples of "monsters 4 humans in your area" and "lightners 4 darkners in ur area", he prefaces one of his attacks by advertising "LOCAL SINGLES STRAIGHT FROM [My]". Then there's his talking about "getting big" and "ENL4RGE Yourself"—by which he means becoming a [[BIG SHOT]].
    • Adding to the subtext of an abusive relationship with Noelle in the Weird Route, Spamton refers to the massacre they inflict together as "MAKING [Hyperlink Blocked]", which could easily be replaced with "MAKING [LOVE]", as in "Level Of ViolencE".
  • Doing It for the Art: invoked Spamton tells Kris in their meeting that he was a salesman because it was his passion, not because of the material gain. Once he stopped successfully selling, there was nothing he could do to avoid getting evicted by the more profit-minded Queen.
  • Double Entendre:
    • He's a shady online advertisement spambot, and one of his dialogue lines is "ENL4RGE Yourself". Granted, he's talking about literally enlarging his entire body as NEO; the following attack temporarily expands his head.
    • In the Weird Route, it's implied that he tries to say that Kris and Noelle have been "making LOVE" after he refers to the latter as "[Hochi Mama]".
  • The Dreaded: It speaks volumes about Spamton when Kris takes a few steps back without the player's input when he asks to see their SOUL. And this is before he's revealed to be a Shadow Archetype to the Lightner. After the battle with Spamton NEO, Susie and Ralsei are both clearly unnerved while Kris teeters on the edge of a mental breakdown. It's even implied the narrator fears him, as the option for leaving his store isn't the usual "EXIT", but "ESCAPE" or "RUN AWAY". There's also the fact he was banned from Queen's Mansion for a reason.
  • Duel Boss: His initial battle is the only boss fight in Chapter 2 that Kris faces alone in the normal route. Push Noelle into mass murder and you'll have to face him one-on-one as the Final Boss of the chapter's Weird Route.
  • Dying as Yourself: Appears to gain some sort of lucidity right before he transforms into the Dealmaker/PuppetScarf once the NEO fight ends, as his usual manic tone and Electronic Speech Impediment both disappear as he delivers his final words and transforms into an item. Subverted if you filled out your Weapons or Armor inventory to avoid obtaining it, where he'll berate you in his usual manner of speech.
  • Eating the Enemy: If you don't repel his head during his special attack and get too close to his mouth, he'll gobble your SOUL up, dealing moderate damage, then spit it back out into a new bullet board, dealing more damage with the impact.
  • Eccentric A.I.: He's a Living Program whose contact with a mysterious voice on the telephone eventually caused him to go absolutely batshit insane, becoming a garbage-can dwelling, Non Sequitur spouting, bombastic weirdo who's obsessed with becoming a [[BIG SHOT]].
  • Electronic Speech Impediment:
    • The first thing anyone will notice about Spamton is how mangled and broken his diction is, likely the result of him being a corrupted program. His normal speech is completely garbled with inconsistent spacing, punctuation, and capitalization. On top of that, he's also constantly interrupting himself with best-fit computer jargon, spam messages, and the occasional violent threat.
    • His speech is even more garbled in Japanese. He constantly switches every other word or syllable between kanji, hiragana, katakana, romaji, English words that sound like parts of Japanese ones (for example, spelling "daisuki" as "dieすき"), and Goroawase Number. The Japanese characters he uses also alternate between full-width and half-width.
    • This even extends to the vocals in his music (implied to be him), which noticeably stutters and repeats words in a synthetic fashion. In "BIG SHOT", the vocals in the song's spoken-word verse also overlap and cut off one another (with the in-game version also including a sped-up version of a previous verse at the end), making them difficult to decipher without processing them through a spectrogram analyzer.
  • Elephant in the Living Room: After encountering him, you can backtrack to the Cyber City and talk to the Addisons, apparently trying to ask them if they know anything about Spamton. Most of them respond by saying they don't want to talk about it. They only address him and elaborate on his story after his NEO fight.
  • Equippable Ally: Turns into either the Dealmaker or the PuppetScarf upon defeating him via cutting his wires or by violence, respectively.
  • Establishing Character Moment: You first encounter him as he hops out of a dumpster while trying to pitch you a "deal" in electronic Word Salad, showing a manic fascination for your "[HeartShapedObject]". During his pitch, he flips to lamenting about "LIVING IN A GODDAMN GARBAGE CAN" and promptly punches it in rage before going right back to deal-brokering like nothing happened. You've only met him for about a minute and he already shows himself as a shady salesman who's not all there.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • He's a self-serving bastard who has no compunctions about encouraging your rampage on the Weird Route, but during the final battle with him, he makes it abundantly obvious that he finds you completely sickening; not because of all the murders you've caused, but because you still think anybody will want to be your friend after all you've done. At the end of the fight, Spamton is exasperated when Kris tries calling their friends for help, taunting them for thinking anybody would want to help them. On the other hand, this is also obvious projection on Spamton's part, given that his insults tend to apply to himself more than Kris.
    • It's implied that he fears and hates Jevil, and although it's not explicitly stated, anyone who fights the Monster Clown in Chapter 1 can probably figure it out.
  • Evil Counterpart: Of Swatch, the head butler in Queen's mansion. Both are shopkeepers dressed in monochrome with a dash of color, and offer you "Big Shot" clothing, but Swatch offers the "Butler Juice" healing item and is willing to buy your Shop Fodder, while Spamton offers poison that harms you and will not buy any items. Swatch even implies that Spamton has been impersonating him to gain access to the basement.
  • Evil Phone:
    • One of the Addisons notes that they could only make out some creepy garbage noise from a phone in Spamton's room at the mansion. It's unknown if Spamton heard similar things from his secret backer but somehow could make sense of it, or whether the call even came from said backer and not some other unrelated entity.
    • In his NEO boss fight, Spamton will sometimes receive phone calls from a mysterious source which are apparently "for you." This launches Pipis at you, which explode like grenades if not shot down. Toward the end of the battle time, he'll pick up the phone, only to realize it's for him; the phone he uses to attack you will launch mini Spamton heads into his face, wasting his turn.
  • Evil Versus Oblivion: Spamton wants to rule the Cyber World and enlists your help to reach this end in the Weird Route, but when your warpath leads you to him, he'll fight tooth and nail to preserve the power he's fought so hard to gain.
  • Exact Words: In his shop's menu.
    • The "S. POTION" is described as "affects HP a lot". When you go outside to get a better look at it, it's revealed to actually be "S. POISON" that initially heals you, but deals even more damage over time. Potions aren't always associated with medicinal use, after all, and it didn't say it would heal you, just that it would "affect your HP".
    • He advertises a weapon called "THE BIG ONE", whose description reads "CUT ANYTHING 2 PIECES". Check it in your inventory, and it's revealed to be a Broken Sword. Looks like he left the comma before "2 PIECES" out.
  • Explosive Overclocking: Defeating Spamton NEO by depleting his HP has him mocking you for thinking that you've won. He starts charging his body with "Electracity" to become "SPAMTON [EX]", causing his body to start to glow and emit smoke before self-destructing.
  • Expository Pronoun: In the Japanese localization, he uses the first person pronoun "watakushi" (spelled ワタ94; see Goroawase Number below), which is a really formal and old-fashioned pronoun used in business-like settings, fitting him being an old and long forgotten ad-bot.
  • Extreme Omnisexual: Spamton admits in the Q&A that he's interested in just about anyone who is willing to give him money.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Dialogue for when you pay him for his "services" or buy an item from him ("DELICIOUS KROMER"/ "[Storing up for the winter]"), plus a couple of his attacks in his fights, suggests that Spamton is eating the money you give him.
  • Eye Glasses: It's very subtle, but his glasses become more round every time he glitches in his shop.
  • Eye Scream: Describes his witnessing the SOUL as his eyes burning "LIKE [[DVDs of ANY movie at Half-pr1ce!]]". He also refers to his current state as being the "[[It Burns! Ow! Stop! Help Me! It Burns!]] GUY", which is localized in Japanese as specifically his eyes burning from witnessing something too bright.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Whether he actually dies or he just loses his own physical body, either way (in the Normal route), he calmly accepts his fate, compliments the party, and wishes them well, just before he transforms into an item.
  • Failed Attempt at Drama:
    • Upon finishing the normal Spamton NEO fight:
      • If you dropped his HP to 0, he attempts to power himself up to EX form only to blow up;
      • If you tried to cut his wires, he celebrates the party helping him cut his strings, before collapsing helplessly to the ground. This one combines fun, fear, and sadness.
    • After that, he has to be held up with vines even in his normal form and resigns himself to his fate, turning himself into an item in support to the heroes as if he's dying… but if your inventory is full, the music stops and a flabbergasted Spamton storms off as a little item sparkle.
YOU FILLED YOUR [Inventorium] WITH [Half-Pr1ce Sallamy] JUST TO KEEP ME OUT!?
      WHAT! THE! [F...ifty Percent Off]!?
  • Failure Is the Only Option: There's no happy ending for him, no matter what you do in either route. Arguably, the 'best' ending you can get for him is to cut his wires to free him, and all that happens is that he just crumples to the floor and presumably dies.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Whatever happened to him during his downfall, he certainly considers it to be this, to the point where it's implied he wished, or even still wishes, he was dead. His Psychological Projection during his Weird Route fight spells it out:
    WELL, YOU'RE [$!$!] RIGHT!
BUT DON'T BLAME ME WHEN YOU'RE [Crying] IN A [Broken Home]
WISHING YOU LET YOUR OLD PAL SPAMTON
    [Kill You]
  • Faux Affably Evil: Is this in the Weird Route. He helps you in the route by telling you how many enemies are left to freeze in the City and sells you the ThornRing, but all of this is in order to corrupt Noelle, and once you reach the castle's fountain, he plays this perfectly straight by thanking Kris for letting him take over the castle and eventually the whole city, continuously excuses himself during the battle, and eventually, grills Kris with words before karma catches up to him via Noelle's ice magic.
  • Final Boss: In the Weird route for chapter 2, Spamton NEO is fought as the final boss, having taken over Queen's castle after Noelle's rampage. Queen's boss fights are skipped as before she can attack, Ralsei warns her of the consequences of creating too many Dark Fountains.
  • Final Boss Preview: Fittingly for Spamton, a weirder example than most, as his is an unconventional superboss preview that takes several hoops to jump through to obtain in the first place. His fight at the end of the Weird Route lacks several of his trickier attacks that he has as a superboss (his face, for example) possibly to balance Kris being the only available party member for this version of his fight. It also can't be won peacefully (as that ship has sailed) and ends rather anticlimactically, with Spamton attempting to become a Hopeless Boss Fight only to be curb-stomped by Noelle. The more definitive version is in the Normal Route, and it's implied Spamton screwed himself over by improperly trying to upload his mind into the NEO body by himself.
  • Fisher King:
    • Spamton's shop features a wall painted like a sunny sky, contrasting the dark room with a phone on the back that looks like it's draining its colors away. When you transfer him to the EmptyDisk, the whole thing melts away before your eyes to monochrome, the soundtrack turns to a slower, lower-key version, and the lamp over the phone is shut off, leaving that area pitch-black.
    • The normal Spamton NEO fight sends the Delta Warriors from the basement to an entire cityscape modeled after his likeness. The background changes to the sunny wall if you help him sever the threads holding him up, leading to some jarring Mood Whiplash when, after the last wire is cut, he collapses on a silent black screen, immobilized (since the wires were the only thing keeping him up).
    • This also happens to Queen's mansion once he takes it over on the Weird route. The place becomes awash with spammy and glitchy ads, all the paintings of Queen are changed to have Spamton's face, and there are pipis everywhere. Queen, hilariously, seems to be completely unaware of any of this.
  • Forced from Their Home: After he fell from grace, he was to be evicted from Queen's mansion, but already left before he could be kicked out.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • When you fight him the first time, his theme has voice clips. This may seem like nothing, but real voice clips are used only one other time — with Jevil, hinting that he is the superboss of the chapter. In another similar vein to the jester, Spamton has a Voice Grunting but no dialogue portrait.
    • Like Jevil hinted at Queen, Spamton warns Kris about somebody named Mike, before telling them "DON'T BELIEVE [[Anything You See On TV!]]." At the end of the chapter, Kris creates a dark fountain at home and as it is engulfed in shadow, a sinister grin forms on their television. Even better, one of his battle quotes as Spamton NEO has him mention turning "THOSE [Cathode Screens] INTO [Cathode Screams]".
    • There are a few references to his backstory before it's revealed. Projecting, he rants about being left behind with no friends and having lost control of his life. Some of the Flavor Text during his Spamton NEO fight includes him begging to "the audience", praying to "the audience", and pleading with "the audience" to stop taking the furniture out from his room - ultimately realizing there is no audience. Near the end of his dialogue, he'll allude to something serious but gets cut off to answer the phone, which swarms with his own attack.
    • After passing through the city segment full of Addison salespeople with Noelle, you then meet the infinitely dodgier salesman in the alleyway not too long after. There's also his worn-down advert for "Big Shot Autos", where he closely resembles them, further hinting at his connection to the Addisons before his backstory is revealed.
    • Defeat him by FIGHTIing during his fight in the alley, and he'll tell you off by saying you should have gone for a violent route much earlier, in order to get his "Commemmorative Ring". This is one of the few hints given about the Weird Route.
    • One of his combat lines when fought as Spamton NEO has him say, "WE'LL TURN THOSE [Schmoes] AND [Daves] INTO [Rosen Graves]," which is only one letter away from "FROSEN GRAVES".
  • Four Is Death: In the Japanese localization, Spamton refers to himself with the old-fashioned pronoun "watakushi", written as "ワタ94". Similar to how Spamton uses Gratuitous English and Alternate Character Readings for "death" and "kill" in his dialogue, 4 is used for the "shi" prununciation. 9 being used for the "ku" pronunciation plays into this, as 9 is associated with bad luck in Japanese culture for sharing pronunciation with the word for "pain" or "suffering".
  • The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: Asking him about "fear" on his shop menu has him briefly drop his speech impediment, begging for help. He cuts it off, and says he didn't hear anyone...
Spamton: [looking directly at the player] ... BUT IT SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE TALKING TO YOU.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: In the "Weird Route" timeline, he takes advantage of the vacuum created by Noelle freezing most of the Darkners and Queen's subsequent preoccupation, thus going from a lowly shopkeeper raving in a rubbish dump to taking control over Queen's castle and redesigning it to his own end, and then serving as the final boss if the player tries to escape.
  • Gag Nose: He has a long, pointy Pinocchio-style nose, which gets incorporated into one of his attacks as Spamton NEO.
  • Glitch Entity: Ralsei speculates that he's a corrupted program, which fits as if you see glitches, chances are Spamton is nearby. The Trash Zone, his shop, and the alley where his garbage can is all have glitches somewhere. Even the basement in Queen's mansion, while not glitchy by itself, was stated to be storing corrupted data. Spamton himself also tends to glitch out, with his head visibly distorting during his Laughing Mad animation.
  • A God Am I: If the player interacts with the mansion basement's door more than once in the Weird Route, Spamton says "KID! I'M BUSY BECOMING [God].", referencing the fact that he's in the middle of transforming into his NEO form.
  • Godhood Seeker: It's implied that Spamton's talk of achieving "[HEAVEN]" means not only reaching the Light World, but becoming something akin to the player.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation:
    • How he was reduced to what we see of him. Eventually, the calls that gave him his success stopped coming, and his sales and reputation both plummeted hard. In desperation, he seemingly resorted to consulting the phone and the caller further, but was only answered with "garbage noise" from the receiver. According to the lines of his dialogue at the end of a Weird Route, he too "LOST IT" when he "TRIED TO SEE TOO FAR".
    • Kris is greatly disturbed by Spamton's NEO form. After Ralsei calls him "corrupted data" that was discarded, Kris gets goosebumps, and if Kris tells Ralsei and Susie that they are not fine, they are reduced to yelling their answer.
  • Gone Horribly Right: If you choose to corrupt Noelle, he actively helps you by telling you how many enemies are left and selling you a ring that allows you to force Noelle to use SnowGrave. Ultimately, it is this attack that kills him when he's fought as that route's final boss.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: Spamton NEO's wings have horns on their tips, and the wings themselves have jagged, uneven edges.
  • Goroawase Number: In Japanese, he constantly refers to himself with the overly formal and old-fashioned first person pronoun "watakushi", but instead of the standard spelling (私 or わたくし), it's spelled "ワタ94", with the on'yomi pronunciation for "94". As part of his dialogue's association with "death", 9 is often associated with bad luck in Japanese culture for sharing pronunciation with the words "pain" and "suffering", while Four Is Death.
  • Gratuitous English: In the Japanese version, part of his ominous speech pattern is using the English words "death" and "die" in place of desu and dai, which are pronounced the same.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: In the Twitter video for Spamton's "Specil Fun Pak" merchandise, he refers to Nubert using his Japanese name with honorifics, "[[ポインくん]]" (Poin-kun).
  • Gratuitous Panning: Both of his battle themes make liberal use of shifting parts of the music across the left and right audio channels, particularly with the "Wow!" voice clip from Earthbound. "BIG SHOT" in particular features an variation on the second stanza of "THE WORLD REVOLVING" that starts in the center of the mix before being shoved to the left channel when the song's verse kicks in.
  • Heart Drive: He can upload himself into the EmptyDisk from the machine in Queen's basement, which drains his shop into a Deliberately Monochrome husk. As the LoadedDisk, observing the item notes how it smiles at you, and you can attempt to place it inside the Mannequin one of the Addisons sells, causing it to "squirm" and refuse to enter.
    • He references the trope itself by regularly referring to Kris's SOUL as a [[Heart-Shaped0bject]].
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: Towards the end of his Pacifist fight as Spamton NEO, he starts to embrace genuine friendship from the heroes and living for himself with his newfound freedom, only to find out those wires holding him up were his new body's power supply. Cue him falling to the ground, giving off a few parting words, before transforming into the Dealmaker.
  • He Knows About Timed Hits: One of his pre-attack lines has him saying "[Press F1 For] HELP". If you do press F1 during the fight, a small Spamton angel comes down and heals your HP, although this can only be done once. It even works against Spamton NEO.note
  • High-Speed Battle: His fight as Spamton NEO in the normal route is of the Chase Fight variety, with you and Spamton shooting at each other while speeding down train tracks.
  • Honest John's Dealership: Fittingly for his nature as the embodiment of spam mail and online scams, Spamton's personality is that of an untrustworthy used car salesman. His speech pattern heavily consists of stock phrases for sales pitches, and before he became what he is today, he was even known for advertising "BIG SHOT AUTOS". His makeshift "shop" is sketchy, with bizarre wares including a "potion" made from colorful squares and a frayed bowtie, which offer false stats and descriptions until you buy them.
  • Hope Spot: Defeating Spamton NEO the merciful way leads to a brief moment of peace and joy as he realizes the heroes are freeing him from his strings… only for him to collapse on the ground once the final string is cut, with nothing left to hold him up. The gang has to hang his original body up on some vines so he can give his parting words.
  • Hostile Animatronics: His dummy-like appearance has him resemble an old fashioned animatronic robot, and is murderously insane.
  • Hostile Show Takeover: The seventh anniversary celebration for Undertale, which doubles as the first anniversary for Chapter 2, is based around Spamton taking over both the official Deltarune website and Fangamer's Twitter account.
  • The Hyena: He has a habit of laughing like a lunatic… which he is. His Voice Grunting also sounds like he's constantly cackling.
    "HAEAHAEAHAEAHAEAH!!"
  • Hypocrisy Nod: After angrily calling you out for your rampage across Cyber World in the Weird Route, which involved buying the ThornRing at his urging, he openly acknowledges he knew you'd use the ring for evil and that is exactly why he sold it to you.
I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN YOU WOULD HAVE USED MY [Ring] for [EVIL]...
OH, [Right]. THAT'S WHY I SOLD IT TO YOU.
  • Hypocrite: In the Weird route, Spamton NEO calls out Kris (and thereby the player) for their actions as a rather ruthless killer and psychological abuser. At the same time, not only did he actively push for this, and help let them know just how many people they'd have to hunt down before moving forward, he also gives Kris and Noelle a ring that can cast fatal spells purely because he knew they'd use it for evil. As such, many of his points are undercut by massive levels of hypocrisy.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: Is Spamton NEO correct about how much of an evil bastard you're being at the end of Chapter 2's Weird route? Yes. Is he also being a massive Hypocrite about it because he actively encouraged you to be an evil bastard and encourage Noelle to become stronger and become a stone-cold killer? Absolutely, and he knows it. He also warns you that you'll come to regret it later on, all for the sake of a small taste of "freedom".
    I-O
  • Icarus Allusion: The winged NEO robot body is the object of his desires for freedom, meant to allow him to get "BIG" enough to soar past the darkness and clouds above until he (and supposedly Kris) can reach "[Heaven]". In the normal route, once he finally gets his hands on it, he's enraged by the sight of the strings and recklessly makes it his goal to get rid of them by snatching Kris' SOUL. Cut them loose like he wants, and instead of soaring off, he unceremoniously collapses to the ground.
  • Idiosyncrazy: Befitting an anthropomorphized spambot, Spamton is a washed-up salesman desperate to relive his glory days; his schemes in both the Normal and Weird routes require him making a "deal" with Kris that entails them purchasing an item from him.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: His second fight in the normal route starts because he wants to get free of the strings holding him, and believes Kris's SOUL is the key. Spamton can get his freedom… but it's not all it's cracked up to be.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: In his past, his sales never reached the height he desired and he was constantly ignored by those he wanted to appeal to. In desperation to be a big shot, he encountered an unknown person and finally obtained what he wanted, but was soon abandoned by the Addisons and lost what gave him his acclaim as it all came down.
  • Incoming Ham: His first few seconds on-screen perfectly establish both how magnificently hammy he is and how he's... not exactly all there, abruptly slamming open his dumpster, rising up like a carnival cutout, and shouting "HEY EVERY !! IT'S ME!!!" to a brassy jingle.
  • I Never Told You My Name: On the normal route, he obsessively refers to Kris by name, despite Kris never introducing themself.
  • Infinity +1 Sword: Rewards the Dealmaker upon pacifying him as Spamton NEO, granting any party member higher defense and magic, as well as an increase in earnings and defense against "CAT"-element bullets. Defeat his NEO form with violence in either a normal run or the Weird Route, and he'll transform into the Puppet Scarf for Ralsei to use, which greatly increases his attack power at the cost of diminished magic and healing.
  • Insane Proprietor: A bit Played With in that he's genuinely gone insane but still keeps enough of his marbles to frame his sales and "Deal" with you in his shop like this.
During "OUR DEAL": AS A [Commemorative Ring] I WILL LET YOU BUY [KeyGen] FROM ME AT [The Low Low Price Of]
WHAT DO YOU THINK!?!? IT'S SUCH A STEAL, I'M [$!X$]ING MYSELF!!!
TAKE THIS DEAL AND YOU WILL [[Die]]!! IT'S THAT GOOD!!!
When browsing his shop: DEALS SO GOOD I'LL [$!$$] MYSELF!
  • Interface Screw: He does this in his shop. Words constantly shake or change size, the prices always change, the stats attributed to his products extend past the text box (with their true description and effects only visible outside of his shop), and the "Sell" option has been replaced with a "BUY MORE" option that redirects you to his wares.
  • In the End, You Are on Your Own: The Weird Route of Chapter 2 forces you to fight him one-on-one. Spamton mocks you for thinking your allies would ever help you if they knew what you did, until this is subverted when you call for Noelle.
  • It's Personal:
    • If the advertisement for Fangamer's Chapter 2 merch is anything to go by, Spamton has a special hatred for Swatch, completely censoring his whole body instead of merely censoring his eyes with "* WRONG!!!!", which he does to all other characters except for himself and Kris.
    • Part of the reason he warns Kris about Tenna is that Tenna subjected Mike to Malicious Slander.
  • I Warned You: He claims this will happen in the future during the Weird Route; sure, forcing Noelle into murdering Berdly will give the player/Kris the freedom they wanted, but the consequences will be so disastrous that they will end up as a Death Seeker living in a "[Broken Home]", wishing they let Spamton kill them when he had the chance.
  • Jive Turkey: When not playing up the personality of a bombastic salesman, Spamton also wants you to know that by becoming a [BIG SHOT], you'll be showing those "[Schmoes] AND [Daves]" and feel "the sweet breeze" with a "ride around town". It's all up to you, and maybe that "[Hochi Mama]".
  • Joke Item: All of the items in his shop besides the KeyGen. "THE BIG ONE" is a Broken Sword that nobody in your party can wield, and not even Malius can fix it, while his "S. POTION" is actually a poison. The least useless of his items is his "B.SHOTBOWTIE", actually a Frayed Bowtie, which offers a measly single point to the wearer's attack and defense. At least it also has a hidden property to it.
  • Karmic Death: In contrast to his defeat in a normal playthrough, which is quite sad, his death in the Weird Route is certainly earned after his manipulations and attempted takeover, with Noelle — the person he helped manipulate into becoming a murderer — freezing him to death with the cursed power he himself provided her, immediately following mocking her one final time after a barrage of derogatory insults.
  • Lack of Empathy: He refers to Berdly being frozen and quite possibly murdered in the Weird Route, as making "[Frozen Chicken]". He also refers to Kris and Noelle's relationship as Noelle being Kris's [Side Chick] and a [Hochi Mama].
  • Large Ham: Spamton's bombastic demeanor is one of his defining traits, seemingly yelling every single line he has while indulging in insane laughter and over-the-top 50s-salesman lingo.
  • Last-Second Word Swap:
    • When you have the EmptyDisk and talk to Spamton, he says "NOW KRIS. DON'T BE GREEDY. HAND OVER. THE DISK. THEN WE WILL TRANSFER. MY [[Hyperlink Blocked]]," with [[Hyperlink Blocked]] presumably replacing the word SOUL.
    • One of his lines in the Weird route heavily implies that "LOVE" is one of the words replaced by [[Hyperlink Blocked]], given both the Ship Tease moments and the getting stronger through violence aspects of the route.
Spamton NEO: NO, I GET IT! IT'S YOU AND THAT [Hochi Mama]! YOU'VE BEEN [Making], HAVEN'T YOU! YOU'VE BEEN MAKING [Hyperlink Blocked]!
    • Beat Spamton NEO with a full inventory and you'll be unable to receive his items, causing him to blow up at you. He'll say "WHAT! THE! [Fifty Percent Off]!?", with the game pausing on the F for a beat before the entire sentence is shown.
  • Laughably Evil: Undeniably monstrous, and quite creepy, but his erratic behavior, bizarre dialogue, and appearance are all used for humor as much as they're used for horror.
  • Laughing Mad: Never stops smiling and laughing as he spams you with all sorts of sales pitches (and bullets), and he gets worse as Spamton NEO. It's also weaponized in his first battle, where every attack begins with him enlarging his head to start cackling madly as he spews out a stream of projectiles from his maw.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: In the Weird Route, if you interact with the basement door again after talking to Spamton once, he'll tell you that it's not his job to be some kids' [Extra Boss].
  • Leet Lingo: Occasionally uses numbers in place of letters for his words.
  • Leitmotif:
  • Lethal Joke Item: Downplayed. There is no shortage of equipment that can easily outclass Spamton's Frayed Bowtie, but the latter carries the hidden effect of reducing the damage the wearer takes from his attacks by 15%, something not even Swatch's actual B.Shot Bowtie offers. Not to mention that there aren't many Armor items that increase a party member's Attack stat.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: The reason why Spamton helps you on the Weird Route is that, while he knows you probably won't take his deal, you can kill enough Darkners to render Queen's mansion defenseless. Sure enough, his gambit pays off big time after Noelle kills Berdly — by the time you reach the mansion, Spamton has completely conquered the place and is in the process of becoming Spamton NEO.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: If you ask him about the Knight in his shop, he'll try to answer, only to be cut off by something. He'll quickly change the subject, and the option to ask him will be replaced, preventing you from asking again.
  • Living Program: Like the Addisons he used to be friends with, he seems to be an embodiment of an adbot or a spambot. Him being a living program is a lot more explicitly shown than the other Darkners in the Cyber World, as Kris can load him into a disk and carry him around.
  • Lonely at the Top: After Spamton's encounter with the mysterious stranger on the phone helped him get huge sales and even a spot in Queen's court, the other salesmen left him out of jealousy and because they felt he was a big shot who didn't need them anymore. Then things went downhill for him.
  • Mad Libs Dialogue: With how he regularly has parts of his sentences interrupted with random advertisement speech and spam lines, his dialogue comes across like this. While still present as Spamton NEO, it's much less random and more fitting with the context of what he actually says.
  • Madness Makeover: We get a glimpse of what might've been his original appearance in a worn-down advertisement near his dumpster and an air freshener sold on Fangamer, and the Addisons around town claim he was just like them at one point. After he lost his sanity, he resorted to poorly imitating Swatch's outfit.
  • Madness Mantra: He regularly yells about being a [[Big Shot]], and constantly makes references to something called [[Hyperlink Blocked]] (initally implied to be potentially a drug or some other questionable product, though there are implications he's actually talking about LOVE or Determination — if it even refers to any singular specific thing). During his boss fight, he makes repeated and ominous references to [[Heaven]].
  • Malaproper: His random word replacements come off as this. For example, if Kris' inventory is full when he's about to enter it as an item, he uses the term "[Half-Pr1ce Sallamy]" to describe the random junk packing it full, likely intending to say baloney instead.
  • Medium Awareness: He suggests pressing F1 to heal yourself during his battle, somehow knows Kris's name despite having no proper introduction before, and potentially alludes to the player and Kris's nature as a vessel in some of his dialogue.
  • Meet the New Boss: He is a subtle pastiche of Mettaton from Undertale, being a bombastic robot who tries to steal the player's SOUL and fights using miniature versions of himself, and can conquer his world if circumstances are right. The key thing is that Spamton expands upon concepts Mettaton introduced; his version of the NEO form is considerably more formidable and acts as Chapter 2's hardest fight, while his version of the "King Mettaton" ending can be witnessed and dismantled first-hand.
  • Mercy Mode: In his NEO boss fight, the Big Shot exploit is penalized less harshly if you die repeatedly and struggle to defeat him otherwise.
  • Mock Headroom: While it may be coincidental, Spamton shares a lot of similarities with Max Headroom. Like Max, he is a morally ambiguous virtual character with slicked back hair, sunglasses, and an Electronic Speech Impediment.
  • Money Is Not Power: Sparing him requires avoiding all of the dialogue that involves giving him your money. To him, that's what being a real "[BIG SHOT]" means. Later, it's revealed that his grand plan is to hijack the creation of a Lightner, so he can earn "true freedom" and "reach past HEAVEN". He still appreciates the "Kromer", though.
    I'M A SALESMAN ,
    I WAS NEVER IN IT
    FOR THE MONEY!!!
I WAS ONLY EVER IN IT FOR
    THE [Freedom].
    TO MAKE YOUR OWN [Deals]
    TO CALL YOUR OWN [Shots]
  • Money Mauling: One of his attacks in his first battle is sucking up Kromer in the form of dollar signs.
  • Mood-Swinger: He flip-flops constantly between manic, cheerful friendliness, crushing despair, and murderous rage. If you pick the right dialogue options, he'll occasionally drop his Electronic Speech Impediment and quietly beg you for help, before going right back to his mania.
Spamton: SPEAKING OF [[Communion]] KRIS, DID YOU KNOW THAT THE KNIGHT... No, I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to — TOO MANY EXCESS VACATION DAYS?? TAKE A GOD DAMN VACATION STRAIGHT TO HELL
  • Mood Whiplash:
    • His pacifist end puts the battle music to a halt as he realizes he's missing most of his strings, then shifts to "A Real Boy!", a jaunty reprise of "HEY EVERY", as he excitedly talks about finally being free. Then that music is cut short as the last string disappears, and he unceremoniously flops to the ground against a soundtrack of dead silence.
    • After the battle, Spamton drops his usual speech patterns to somberly deliver his last words, transforming into equipment… and if your inventory is full, the music stops as he berates you for filling your inventory (most likely on purpose considering your immense item space) to prevent him from entering it. The entire rant is delivered with his usual manner of speaking, and he slides offscreen in a clear nod to Mad Dummy's exit in UNDERTALE.
  • More Hateable Minor Villain: Downplayed, as Spamton is pretty likable himself, but there's no denying he's much worse than Queen: While she is a friendly, Laughably Evil Well-Intentioned Extremist who tries to make people happy, Spamton is a self-centered Opportunistic Bastard who just wants to achieve his selfish agenda. Fittingly, Queen will always be befriended while the player has the option to give karma to Spamton by either beating him up in his first encounter, or killing him in the Weird Route.
  • Mr. Exposition: Of all people, he's the one to first mention elemental pairs in the Spamton Sweepstakes QNA, ironically chastising everybody for not knowing about them, and revealing four pairs (Puppet/Cat, Thunder/Light, Dark/Star and Death/Scythe.)
  • Musical Nod: His NEO boss battle theme, "BIG SHOT", samples leitmotifs for the characters Mettaton NEO and Mad Dummy from Undertale, and Jevil from the previous chapter, referencing how he combines elements of all three figures. His shop theme, "Dialtone", is another snippet from Jevil's theme, "THE WORLD REVOLVING", played out of key.
  • Mysterious Middle Initial: There is no real hint to what "G." in his name stands for outside of breaking up his Repetitive Name.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Many to Undertale's Mettaton. Even their names end in "-ton".
      • Spamton NEO's body is almost identical to that of Mettaton NEO. If you use the violent route to defeat him, he'll even try to change form into "Spamton EX".
      • Spamton's boss fight also contains several elements from Mettaton's boss fight that aren't used anywhere else in the series, like the yellow-heart shoot 'em up mechanics and several of his attacks.
      • Dialogue with Swatch, the character running the castle shop, after fighting Spamton NEO even suggests that the body he used to fight you may be the Deltarune version of Mettaton NEO, since Swatch mentions that it is the representation of the failed dream of a Lightner, which corresponds to the hints that the Deltarune version of Mettaton is a recluse filled with failed dreams.
      • The mannequin that resembles Spamton is wearing Mettaton's opera dress.
      • His theme as a secret boss uses sampling that combines much of Undertale's soundtrack, most notably Mettaton NEO's theme, and second-most prominently, Napstablook and Mad Dummy's.
      • While fighting Spamton NEO, he tempts Kris with how he has the [Power of NEO]. Power of "NEO" is the name of Mettaton NEO's battle music.
      • During the fight, Spamton NEO will laugh towards the audience, before doing a jig for them, and attempting to pray and beg to them, before it is revealed that there is no audience. The audience was a major factor of Mettaton EX's boss fight, and a pacifist victory required raising the ratings of Mettaton's show by performing to them.
      • One of his attacks involves his shooting out his heart and firing projectiles from it, with the player needing to shoot his heart, just like a similar attack by Mettaton EX.
      • When Spamton is on his last legs during his Weird route fight, he says that [NEO] is famous for its high defense. Mettaton NEO was infamous for having less defense than his regular form, going from an untouchable 255 defense to a paltry 9note  when checking him.
      • During his final attack, there is red text in the bottom left corner saying "WRECK" next to a red circle, which switches to saying "SPEW" with a red triangle, mirroring Mettaton EX's record-rewind attacks.
      • Eventually, Spamton NEO will grant a scripted free turn when he's told to answer the phone later into the fight. This mirrors Mettaton's scripted "union-regulated break", which also gave a free turn with no attacks.
      • The Check description for Spamton NEO during the Weird Route calls him "his own worst invention", referencing how Mettaton NEO's Check description from the Genocide Route called him "Dr. Alphys' greatest invention".
      • "THE SMOOTH TASTE OF NEO" (and the S.POTION implicitly tasting like it) matches up with a drink Mettaton mentions in Undertale's first Q&A. MTT-Brand Mettaton Soda is claimed to have "the great taste of... ME!".
    • There are a couple incidental similarities between him and Mad Dummy.
      • Kris can interact with and even kick the body they placed the LoadedDisk into, but it will only activate and attack when they leave the room. The same thing can be done to Mad Dummy before their fight.
      • One of Spamton NEO's lines, "YOU DON'T NEED [Friends]!! I CAN MAKE MY HANDS INTO PHONES!!!", parallels Mad Dummy claiming they don't need friends because they have knives.
      • When Spamton NEO picks up the phone call intended for him, he gets hit by a flurry of smaller versions of himself. Mad Dummy's fight consists largely of redirecting their lackeys' (presented as smaller dummies) attacks back at them.
      • In the Weird Route fight against Spamton NEO, he eventually turns into a Stone Wall to prevent Kris from defeating him. When Kris tries to call for help, Spamton mocks them for trying to rely on their friends, just before Noelle casts her ice magic on him. This is similar to Mad Dummy extending their own turn to deny Frisk a chance to defeat them, just before Napstablook barges in while shooting tears, which is the only thing that can hurt Mad Dummy.
    • Just like both Mettaton and Mad Dummy's motivations to become fully corporeal by bonding to the body of their choosing, Spamton envisions ascending to a better form by transferring himself into the robotic NEO body. There's also an option to send the LoadedDisk into the Mannequin instead, and if you try to, the disk squirms and objects to entering.
    • He's a creepy guy with Blush Stickers who helps out while trying to strike a deal for your SOUL, like a certain Fallen Child. In the Weird Route, he even keeps track of how many monsters you have left to freeze before he sells the ThornRing.
    • Puppets are often thought to be soulless. In the normal route, he tries to take your SOUL to become something greater than he was. Meanwhile, in the Weird Route, he assists the player until the end, where he turns against you. This puts Spamton squarely in the role of Flowey. There's even some dialogue in the Weird Route where if you interact with Queen's Basement door more than once, Spamton will say he's busy becoming "God", much as Flowey did. Also it's implied that one of the [[Hyperlink Blocked]]s is supposed to be LOVE, which means that in his first appearance, Spamton wants Kris to show his "HeartShapedObject" in exchange for LOVE — neatly paralleling Flowey's first encounter. In addition to this, his first encounter also calls back to Flowey's when he says "YOU WANT IT. YOU WANT [[Hyperlink Blocked]], DON'T YOU?", a direct reference to Flowey's "You want some LOVE, don't you?" line. This may be why the music that plays in Queen's Basement, "Digital Roots," is based on "You Idiot", one of Flowey's leitmotifs.
    • His line telling you to "TAKE A GOD DAMN VACATION STRAIGHT TO HELL" is in reference to Burgerpants in the No Mercy Route of Undertale telling you he can't go to Hell, since he's all out of vacation days.
    • The second sentence of his check text says "WAKE UP AND TASTE THE PAIN", which is very similar to unused dialogue found in Undertale's test room, with the only difference being that the latter line instead says "wake up and smell the pain".
  • The Napoleon: Rather short, always excitedly talking about getting "BIG" following his fall from grace, and accompanied by intense mood swings, in which he's usually on the brink of rage. Best seen whenever you deny his "deal" during the fight in the alley, where he's at his most frustrated.
  • Narrative Profanity Filter: Whenever he tries to swear or even say certain words or things (which happens a lot), the words will come out in brackets [Like this] as something less offensive/more vague, like calling your SOUL a [Heart-shaped object]. The closest he can get to obvious profanity is to put Symbol Swearing in the brackets. The restriction is alleviated slightly when he attains his NEO form, but still happens quite a bit.
  • Never My Fault: His whole fight as NEO has him blame Kris and Noelle for their actions on the Weird route, despite being the one to not only enable them, but actively encourage them with the full knowledge that they would use it to slaughter people and then use this to enable his own power fantasy.
  • The Nicknamer: He calls Kris a [Little Sponge] normally, and on the Weird Route, he refers to Noelle exclusively as Kris's [Side Chick] and a [Hochi Mama].
  • No Fair Cheating: Due to a bug, it's possible to fire multiple big shots in a row without a charge, something that can potentially trivialize large sections of the Spamton NEO fight. A later patch chose not to remove it, but instead incorporate it as a proper mechanic with consequences — using this bug enrages Spamton NEO and causes his damage to increase gradually, up to a cap of 155, which is more damage than anyone but a maxed-out Kris can handle.
  • No Indoor Voice: SPAMTON PRETTY MUCH CONSTANTLY TALKS IN CAPSLOCK WHENEVER HIS [canned advertisements] ARENT BUTTING INTO HIS [limited time offers]!.
  • Non Sequitur: Much of his dialog consists of this:
"[Friends]? KRIS!? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!? YOU DON'T NEED [Friends]!! I CAN MAKE MY HANDS INTO PHONES!!!"
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Besides his backstory being a fall from grace after his mysterious advisor left him, he claims that he transformed from being the "E_mail guy" into what he is today following "A [[Communion]] WITH [[Unintelligble Laughter]]".
    • During one of his tangents about becoming a "[[BIG SHOT]]" at his shop, he'll proclaim about not needing "Mike" to reclaim their glory. Then, he takes a more forlorn look in remembering "Mike", before moving on.
  • NOT!: Pulls this in the Weird Route just as Kris reaches the Dark Fountain.
Narrator: (It was as if your very SOUL was glowing...)
    Spamton: NOT!!! LET ME SAY
    LET ME SAY [Thanks ]
THANKS TO YOUR [Total Jackass stunts] I HAVE [Becomed] NEO.
  • Nothing Is Scarier:
    • Claims that he can't go into Queen's mansion himself, having tried to before. He tries to explain, but can only say that "THE MEN INSIDE WOULD [...]" before cutting himself off.
    • Also, who or what was calling him that eventually led to his insanity. One of the Addisons states that they only heard "garbage noise" after Spamton had left in the middle of the phone call. The most popular theory as to the caller's identity is Gaster, but considering how little we know about him, this still applies.
  • Not Quite Dead: If your inventory is full by the time you get the Puppetscarf or the Dealmaker — which requires Spamton to "die" — he will call Kris out on it before saying "I'LL BE IN MY [Trailer]!" and storming off as an item sparkle.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: He might originally seem like just a homeless Ax-Crazy Snake Oil Salesman, but shows in the Weird Route that he's extremely dangerous if the situation calls for it and he's given the chance to seize the resources he needs.
  • Obfuscating Insanity: Very much downplayed. Spamton is very clearly batshit crazy, but his behavior on the Weird Route implies he is, for one reason or another, exaggerating his insanity. Compared to his shop, where his prices constantly switch at random, when offering you the ThornRing on the Weird Route, it will always be for 1997 Kromer. During his boss fight, he also uses much less "salesman slang" when [[Speaking In Brackets]], mostly dropping the Word-Salad Horror and being much more straightforward.
  • Obviously Evil: The first time you encounter him, it's quickly established that he's up to no good; if his bizarre dialogue and abruptly punching the dumpster he came out of didn't tip you off, it would be how he embodies spam advertisements and online scams, and ominously pitches you a "deal" that you need to do alone. Do as he instructs, and it's no surprise seeing him attack you in the depths of Queen's mansion.
  • Ominous Visual Glitch: His face glitches out whenever he gets too excited. His shop is also a glitchy mess, with texts that constantly shift in size and position, and prices that change every second. The glitching in his shop can be exploited if you time it right, as you can buy one or two items for very low prices.
  • Only Friend: When asked if he has any friends, he'll say he doesn't have any save for Kris, and that they don't need "Mike" anymore, whoever they are.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When his Electronic Speech Impediment disappears, it means something is very wrong.
    • At one point, it seems like he's not the one speaking at all, but that someone else is trying to communicate through him instead.
    • It also disappears at the end of his battle, though in that case, it's matter of him Dying As Himself.
Spamton: It seems after all I couldn't be anything more than a simple puppet. But you three... You're strong. With a power like that... Maybe you three can break your own strings. Let me become your strength.
    P-S
  • Painting the Medium: Spamton's bizarre dialogue often uses [single] or [[double square brackets]], like so.
  • Perfectly Cromulent Word: He's prone to misspelling words, but [Cungadero] is either completely made up or something mangled into being literally unrecognizable, and used both as an exclamation and some kind of vehicle. Checking his old "BIG SHOT AUTOS" advert implies that it's the latter. Spamton Sweepstakes pushes the latter even further, with a Cungadero Warning sign depicting a vehicle outright.
  • Permanently Missable Content: Being the secret superboss of Chapter 2, this is a given if you don't meet his prerequisites.
    • If you choose to drain his HP in the first encounter instead of sparing him, he'll simply leave the storyline and prevent you from experiencing everything else his content entails.
    • He warns you that his shop will no longer be available if you upload him to the EmptyDisk, though it's not exactly like you'll be missing out on much, considering he only sells two joke items and a highly situational piece of equipment.
    • Unlike Chapter 1, which had no save points after the final story boss, the player can go back to the Castle town and save after Cyber World is conquered. The player won't be able to go back and try again without starting the chapter over.
    • However, as Seam implies if you miss him or Jevil, while you can miss the fight, you can still obtain the rewards by beating him on a different save and then checking the hole to the left of your castle to import them to your current one.
  • Perpetual Smiler: As a salesman, he constantly has to show a friendly face; when it fades away, you know something's really wrong.
  • Perverse Puppet: Once he's uploaded into a new body, he turns into a freaky robotic marionette named Spamton NEO. The merciful method of beating him involves cutting him free of his strings.
  • Please Subscribe to Our Channel: Some of the many stock phrases he takes. During the first encounter with him behind the dumpster, the Flavor Text might say "Great ENEMY! SUSCRIBE(sic) NOW!", and he uses it as a way of saying "goodbye" after the battle or when you leave his shop.
Spamton: AND DON'T... FORGET! TO [[Like and Subscribe]] FOR MORE [[Hyperlink Blocked.]]
  • Poison Mushroom: Sells the "S.POISON", advertised as the "S.POTION", which heals 40 HP instantly and cancels it out by slowly damaging the user for 60 HP, losing 1 point per second over time.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Darkly parodied. While his powerful Spamton NEO form gives him a pair of large, multi-colored wings, they're entirely decorative; his "levitation" is simply the result of being strung up by a series of wires, to his dismay (they even stop flapping when he experiences a Power-Up Letdown over this). Snapping all of his wires results in him helplessly crashing to the floor.
  • Power Makes Your Voice Deep: As Spamton NEO, his Voice Grunting is noticeably deeper than it was normally. It returns to normal after his defeat.
  • The Power of Friendship: Darkly Parodied if you spare him in his second fight on the normal route. He suddenly notices the heroes were cutting his strings the whole time, and thanks Kris for helping him despite everything he did, much like how things went for enemies and bosses in Undertale. He makes a big show of it before he gets the "freedom" he wants, and realizes that said "freedom" isn't what he thinks it is.
  • Power-Up Letdown: When he becomes NEO, Spamton realizes that he's effectively a puppet on strings and complains that it's still not enough, causing him to try to steal Kris's SOUL.
Spamton NEO: WHAT ARE THESE STRINGS!? WHY AM I NOT [BIG] ENOUGH!? It's still DARK...SO DARK!
  • Practically Joker: He's an insane clown-like dummy who's simultaneously funny and scary, associated with smiles and laughter, and has a mysterious backstory prior to beating his NEO form, which partially includes a serious fall from grace that led to murderous and existential insanity upon its reveal, this includes a possible fall into acid. Spamton also attempts to corrupt Kris (successfully in the Weird route), granting him the distinction of being the only villain to haunt Kris after their fight.
  • Pragmatic Pansexuality: Revealed during the Q&A during the Spamton's Sweepstakes event: [1]
I LIKE [anyone and anything] THAT GIVE ME [Money]!! TRANSMIT [Kromer] TO ME AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW I'LL BE BEGGING FOR YOUR [HeartShapedObject]!!
  • Proud Merchant Race: Was a salesman like the Addisons, and for him, it was less about the money and more about the freedom that came with making it "[[BIG]]". His life hit its lowest point once his sales tanked.
  • Psychological Projection: He does this frequently.
    • The very first time he meets Kris, he'll assume they're a down-on-the-luck salesman who had been abandoned by their friends just like he is.
LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE [[All Alone On A Late Night?]]
ALL YOUR FRIENDS, [[Abandoned you for the slime]] YOU ARE?
SALES, GONE DOWN THE [[Drain]] [[Drain]]??
LIVING IN A GODDAMN GARBAGE CAN???
    • His dialog at the end of the fight against him in the Weird route starts out talking about Kris, but rapidly shifts to being more applicable to his backstory than yours:
WHAT!? YOU'RE CALLING FRIENDS!? YOU THINK YOU CAN BEAT ME WITH YOUR FRIENDS' [Magic]!? GO AHEAD, [Kid]... CALL ALL YOU WANT! NO ONE WILL EVER PICK UP
GO AHEAD AND [Scream] INTO THE [Receiver]. THE [Voice] RUNS OUT EVENTUALLY. YOUR [Voice] THEIR [Voice]. UNTIL YOU REALIZE YOU ARE ALL ALONE
THERE WILL BE NO MORE [Miracles] NO MORE [Magic]. YOU LOST IT WHEN YOU TRIED TO SEE TOO FAR.... ... YOU LOST IT...
YOU MAKE ME [Sick]! MUTTERING YOUR [Lost Friends] NAMES AT THE BOTTOM OF A [Dumpster]! NO ONE'S GONNA HELP YOU!!! GET THAT THROUGH YOUR [Beautiful Head], YOU LITTLE [Worm]!
  • Psycho Pink: One of his glasses' lens is pink and he gains magenta-colored armour as Spamton NEO, and fits the "psycho" bit in every definition of the word.
    • Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: The other lens in his glasses is a bright yellow as well, which is fitting for a shady salesman like him.
  • Punch a Wall: In his introduction, he punches the dumpster he popped out of in the midst of projecting himself onto Kris, enraged over being reduced to "LIVING IN A GODDAMN GARBAGE CAN".
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: "THEN. KRIS. AFTER. THIS IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT. GO BACK. AND PUT. THE DISK. BACK. WHERE YOU GOT IT." This is one of the few sentences where he does this, and by the lack of his Electronic Speech Impediment, seems to be an attempt at trying not to set it off.
  • Punny Name: Meant to resemble "Samson", he's a program that sends tons of spam.
  • Puppet Permutation: A worn poster next to Spamton's dumpster and the air freshener included in his "Specil Fun Pak" reveals that he once looked like a mostly normal Addison, aside from having more clearly defined hair. Whatever caused him to go crazy therefore must have also transformed him into the puppet-like form the player meets in game.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: Whatever higher powers exist in the world of Deltarune, Spamton knows about them and dreads having been made a "puppet". By attaining the "Power of NEO", he wants to show Heaven and Mike just what it means to be a [[BIG SHOT]].
  • Rage Breaking Point: During the final phase of his Weird Route fight, after calling for help one too many times, Spamton loses it and starts shaking as his Psychological Projection reaches its extremes.
Spamton: YOU MAKE ME [Sick]! MUTTERING YOUR [Lost Friends] NAMES AT THE BOTTOM OF A [Dumpster]! NO ONE'S GONNA HELP YOU!!! GET THAT THROUGH YOUR [Beautiful Head], YOU LITTLE [Worm]!
  • Religious Robot: An odd case of one. He's a spambot for e-mails brought to life in the Dark World, and he's accompanied with quasi-religious ramblings that ramp up once he gets his NEO form. He calls what he had a "Communion" with an unseen force, which he then compares to the Knight in one way or another, and plans on growing strong enough to see past the Heavens, even addressing them before his fight starts. One of the Swatchlings notes, at one point, Spamton stopped using his room in the mansion to instead spend his time praying in the basement.
  • Repetitive Name: Spamton G. Spamton.
  • Riches to Rags: The story behind his downfall. He was a failure of a salesman until, one day, he began receiving mysterious advice over the phone, which gave him enormous success and a favored spot in Queen's court. But eventually, the calls stopped coming, the money dried up, and he got evicted by Queen and was reduced to an insane husk in the city's trash heap. One of the other NPCs say they tried picking up his landline after he abandoned his room, and only heard "garbage noise" — which is how the game describes the voice associated with Dr. Gaster coming out of your phone if you try to make a call in the Dark World.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: It's been implied that, if Spamton did succeed in gaining his freedom and becoming NEO, he would go on a killing spree against the ones that wronged him. Even ignoring everything that happens on the Weird Route, one of the first things he says on his Normal Route fight is that he and Kris will turn "THOSE [Schmoes] AND [Daves] INTO [Rosen Graves]. THOSE [Cathode Screens] INTO [Cathode Screams]". And then come these two pieces of dialogue, which indirectly confirm Spamton considers the NEO body, the thing he desires the most, to be a killing machine:
Spamton (when talking about the NEO Body): A HEAVEN-PIERCING [[Workout-Ready Body]]
Spamton (when telling you to kill people on the Weird Route): TRY A LITTLE [Friday Night Work Out].
  • Round Hippie Shades: He wears a multicolored variant, with a yellow lens on his left and a pink lens on his right, as part of an earlier failed attempt at impersonating Swatch. If the player fights Spamton NEO in the normal route and wins through cutting his wires, he bestows these glasses unto Kris as the Dealmaker armor item.
  • Route Boss: A unique example which concerns both his forms.
    • On the Normal Route, fighting Spamton on his regular form is mandatory; on the Weird Route, however, you meet him while he hides in the "secret" dumpster as he carefully avoids any contact with Kris and Noelle on their killing spree and tries to deal with them to reach his NEO form.
    • Spamton NEO is fightable on a regular run, but only as a hard-to-discover Superboss. If you take the Weird Route, however, he instead becomes a mandatory story boss, replacing Giga Queen as the chapter's last battle. Though, considering how obscure the requirements for the Weird Route are, one could still consider him a Superboss under those circumstances.
    • The only way to avoid a fight against Spamton in any form is to engage into Berdly's Weird Route fight and to spare him.
  • Sanity Slippage: He used to be a regular salesman like his fellow Addisons, but a combination of losing everything he had and his Anonymous Benefactor telling him… something… reduced him to a borderline-incomprehensible lunatic living in a garbage bin. It gets even worse once he becomes Spamton NEO, though he regains his lucidity after his defeat.
  • Satanic Archetype: Spamton mirrors Satan's manipulations, constantly trying to get Kris to take his deal, and tempt them to do evil; he even wants to make a deal for Kris's SOUL. He also has ambitions to overthrow Queen and take power, plans that are realized during Chapter 2's Weird Route. Additionally, his NEO form brings to mind a winged demon, and you fight him either in the mansion's dilapidated basement or at the Dark Fountain, both of which draw parallels to common depictions of Hell.
  • Saying Too Much: Happens to him several times.
    • Whenever Spamton tries to offer something, the "hyperlink" gets blocked. We never know what it is, but it could range from just another scam to a reference to higher concepts like the SOUL, LOVE, or Determination.
    • Try to ask him about the Knight, and he'll speak up, but then he'll start pleading forgiveness from some kind of higher power, followed by a non-sequitur about taking "A GOD DAMN VACATION STRAIGHT TO HELL" before permanently replacing the dialogue option with "FRIENDS".
    • Talking about "FEAR" with him causes him to transmit one of the "unused" lines of text from within the game files. Once he comes back, he brushes it off, yet can't help but point out — while staring directly into the camera — that it sounded like it was a message intended for "you", whether that be Kris, the Player, or both.
    • Near the end of his NEO fight, he'll ask Kris if they really "WANNA BE A [Heart] ON A [Chain]" for their whole life, then continue by asking, while dropping his Electronic Speech Impediment, if they want to be… something else. Before he can finish, he's asked to answer the phone, which then attacks him and wastes his turn, seemingly for daring to say something he shouldn't.
  • Scary Jack-in-the-Box: His "Chained Heart" attack as Spamton NEO is presented this way, springing a big heart with his face on it back and forth from the yellow panel on his chest to shoot bullets. He adds two more later into the battle.
  • Schmuck Bait:
    • It's obvious from the start that taking his "deal" isn't going to end well. Sure enough, once Kris follows his instructions to the letter, Spamton tries to take their SOUL to accomplish what he wants.
    • During your first encounter, you may think you need to spare him by accepting his "deals" and handing over your "KROMER", though his "Check" description explicitly tells you not to give him your money. While you will always lose at least a few Dark Dollars after the fight, picking the wrong options can greatly increase the amount.
    • The items he offers in his extremely sketchy shop are always given false and glitchy attributes. Dare to buy them, and you can check your inventory to see that what you bought is heavily outclassed at best and outright harmful at worst.
    • It may be tempting to use the Yellow SOUL's Charged Attack as often as possible due to its strength and One-Hit Polykill capabilities, but Spamton NEO's spam mail attack will align bombs on the same level as the heads you must destroy. Using a big shot (or spamming small shots) will hit the bomb behind the head and likely cause the player to get hit by its explosion. And then there's the update where he'll get more damaging once he notices you're using the big shots exploit on him.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • Defeat his first encounter with violence, and he'll angrily ditch the scene, permanently locking off the rest of his sidequest.
    • If your inventory is full by the time you defeat him, he will storm off instead of you obtaining the PuppetScarf or Dealmaker, although you can still obtain the item in a provided chest.
  • Secret Shop: In order to access his shop, you have to enter the Portal Door back to the Trash Zone after fighting him, then head left. The shop is also only open for a limited time; after uploading him to the EmptyDisk, the shop closes down. This is hardly a setback, however; Spamton's shop only sells extremely situational to useless items, and the one useful item he has, the Keygen, has to be bought before his shop can be closed.
  • Sequel Song: His battle theme as Spamton NEO, "BIG SHOT", is one to his normal form's battle theme, "NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A". Not only is "BIG SHOT" a Dark Reprise of "NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A", but the two's titles are also different halves of the same base sentence, which prominently appears in the lyrics to both tracks.
  • Shadow Archetype:
    • To Kris. All his rambling about hopelessly trying to escape the strings that pull him echoes their fears of being controlled by and dependent on the SOUL's control. This is likely one reason Spamton disturbs Kris so much.
    • To Berdly. Both were once nobodies that never received attention from anyone until an Anonymous Benefactor helped them reach prosperity. When the two parted ways, Spamton lost everything as soon as he gained it and went back to being a nobody — the fate Berdly fears so much and his motivation for joining Queen. In his fight, the pacifist outcome involves cutting the wires that make them someone's puppet. During the Weird Route, both realize something is wrong, but while Berdly tries to stop it, Spamton mockingly dismisses it, and both get killed as a result. Both the first Berdly fight and the neutral run Spamton NEO fight take place on rollercoasters, where Berdly's cart ends up exploding while Spamton NEO explodes if defeated through violence.
  • Shameless Self-Promoter: Almost all of his dialogue is a form of advertising with a lot of the focus being on himself. It's only natural for a living e-mail spambot.
  • Shifting Voice of Madness: Spamton's dialogue is frequently overridden by barely-relevant hyperlinks with distinctly different formatting compared to his primary speech patterns.
  • Shipper on Deck: Says Noelle is Kris's "side chick" and "hochi mama" in the Weird Route, and before the Last-Second Word Swap, it's implied he was trying to say Kris and Noelle had been "making LOVE".
  • Shoddy Knockoff Product: While Swatch sells the B.ShotBowtie, Spamton's shop offers the "EXCLUSIVE OFFICIAL SPAMTON" "BSHOT BOWTIE", which is revealed to be an old Frayed Bowtie that's lost much of its defensive value. It's really an Inverted case; Swatch's superior bowties are said to have the brand names removed when checked, meaning Spamton likely used to sell them and kept some of the originals, which have deteriorated in quality over time. Note that, unlike Spamton's other items, the Frayed Bowtie is not a straight downgrade to other items; it provides increased attack power in lieu of defense, and more importantly grants the wearer significant resistance against the "Puppet/Cat element" (mainly attacks used by Tasques, Tasque Manager, and Spamton himself), making his NEO battle somewhat easier.
  • Shout-Out:
    • His design has several:
      • He strongly resembles the For Dummies mascot, another connection to Mad Dummy.
      • He also somewhat resembles Billy the puppet from the Saw films. This likely also doubles as a nod to Homestuck's own shout-outs to it as well (since Toby Fox was also involved in the production of the comic).
      • His long-nosed marionette appearance and him wanting to break free of his strings bring to mind the fairytale character Pinocchio. The reference becomes a lot more explicit once you defeat Spamton NEO by snapping his strings, with him saying that his days as a [Long-Nosed Doll] are over, and asking Kris to make him a [Real Boy]. Even the music track playing in the background during this scene is titled "A Real Boy!"
    • Spamton sells the S.POTION (which becomes the S.POISON after buying it) and a Broken Sword at his shop. Both are similarly named after items found in Brandish, a game that has served as a major inspiration for Toby.
    • His form as Spamton NEO incorporates an Arm Cannon similar to Mega Man's. One attack launches egg projectiles from it that shatter and release a swarm of mini Spamtons if they hit your box; the game labels them "Pipis", named after the similarly-functioning enemy from Mega Man 2.
    • The telephone at the right side of his shop shares its design with the telephone Ness' father uses in EarthBound, sharing similar animations for when they ring.
    • The Big Shot brand of soda had a TV commercial by Mike Ditka recorded in 1997.
    • Talking to him about "OUR DEAL" after buying the KeyGen results in him oscillating between various colors while simply saying "KEYGEN", with the dramatic chiptune track of the same name playing in the background. This nods to the 2009 YouTube Poop "The King Downloads Sony Vegas", which features King Harkinian doing almost the exact same thing (albeit with Epileptic Flashing Lights), itself a riff on software key generators in the warez scene.
    • He shares a few similarities to Junko from Touhou Kanjuden ~ Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom. Both are scheming entities bearing a grudge with higher powers and can orchestrate a massacre against those that wronged them. Before his fight in the normal route, Spamton shouts "[Heaven], are you WATCHING?", similar to Junko's invokedMemetic line every time you lose a life in Legacy mode, "Chang'e, are you watching!".
    • His habit of randomly inserting bracketed [secret codes] and [turns of phrase] that only tangentially relate to what he's trying to [communicate] call to mind the speech mannerisms of The Orz from Star Control II. Said aliens also had vaguely clownish appearances and their goofy mannerisms shoddily hid the presence of Cosmic Horror in an otherwise lighthearted game.
  • Shows Damage:
    • Downplayed. The green strings holding Spamton NEO's body up slowly disappear according to how many times you snap at them, though when "Snap All" is used while one or two strings are left, one last string always spawns for the Pacifist cutscene.
    • His [Eyes, Nose, and Mouth] attack has those parts go from blue to purple as they get shot before they are destroyed.
  • Sigil Spam: Once he becomes Spamton NEO, he loves to plaster his face over everything. Almost every bullet has a variant of his head or face as a projectile, and in the normal route, both the carts the heroes ride on and the city in the background are modeled after him. Even before he becomes Spamton NEO in the Weird Route, he plasters his face over all of Queen's portraits.
  • Sinister Schnoz: Spamton has a long, pointy nose that highlights his status as a mad, manipulative figure. The nose even becomes the subject of one of his attacks as Spamton NEO.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: By far the most foul-mouthed character in both of the games. Susie usually never goes further than "ass" or "hell" and is censored by Symbol Swearing only once in Chapter 1, pre-Character Development, while Spamton doesn't have anything holding him back, and Symbol Swearing appears in his dialogue more than once, with it being made clear he used a Precision F-Strike and said "shit" numerous times. Also, some of his lingo is more obscene than usual, befitting his nature as an Anthropomorphic Personification of spam e-mails, many of which are infamously quite sexual. He mentions ass a lot more during the Spamton Sweepstakes event, with one of the rewards being a body pillow with a pronounced ass.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: He seems to have an unusual hatred of Jevil, saying that he'll surpass that "DAMNED [[Clown Around Town]]" and, in the Spamton Sweepstakes event, proclaiming his disgust at the Death/Scythe element, alongside the Ode to Spamton calling Jevil more sick than funny. When questioned about it, he claims that Jevil only thinks about games while he works his ass off to be a big shot.
  • Slasher Smile: Spamton's default expression with Flavor Text in his first fight calling it an "award-losing smile".
  • Slut-Shaming: Downplayed; on the Weird Route, Spamton will inexplicably start referring to Noelle with insults related to promiscuity, calling her a [Side Chick] and a [Hochi Mama]. However, given how garbled his speech patterns are (especially considering spam mail often tries to sell sexual services), it's likely just part of his strange vocabulary, which is further affirmed by the fact that he seems to also use "Hochi Mama" as a term of excitement, as seen when Kris returns the disk to him in a normal route. He also uses "Hochi Mama" as a sort of nickname for Noelle, as when questioned about if Noelle is his mother, he repeats it by asking if that "Hochi Mama" is his "Mama Hochi."
  • Snake Oil Salesman: Spamton talks like a pop-up advertisement, asking for credit card information in exchange for his "DEAL". The items featured in his shop are also heavily corrupted; taking a look at them from your inventory shows their true stats and functions to be different, such as his potion turning out to actually be poison.
  • Spoken Word in Music: "BIG SHOT", his battle theme as Spamton NEO, includes a spoken-word verse consisting of several original recordings stacked on top of each other, making them difficult to decipher.
  • The Starscream: Formerly worked for Queen before being evicted from her castle after his source of money dried up, and seems to have held a grudge against her ever since, hence why he takes over her castle amidst all the chaos in the Weird Route.
  • Stealth Pun:
    • He's a hammy character called Spamton...
    • His puppet appearance, and the boss mechanic of breaking his strings: you could say that his deals are definitely not offered with "no strings attached".
    • Spamton introduces himself by saying "HEY EVERY !", which the accompanying short jingle gets named after. If you interpret this as being typed with the shift key instead of Caps Lock, it can be read as "hey every 1".
    • He wants your [[Heart-shaped object]]. Making a deal with him is akin to selling your SOUL.
    • As a Living Program, he'll upload himself into the machine in the basement, becoming a spambot. On top of that, he's essentially nothing without his strings of code.
  • Stepford Smiler: The unstable variant: he knows the world he lives in is an illusion, but his desire for freedom and his salesman activity require him to always show a big smile.
  • Stone Wall: If you manage to beat Spamton NEO during the Weird Route, he'll drop his attack and increase his defense. In this situation, he only uses exploding Pipis that are easy to avoid, but can't be killed in any way… except by Noelle's ice magic.
  • Story Branch Favoritism: Several elements of Spamton NEO's fight gear it more towards encouraging a pacifist victory than a violent one, in direct contrast to the violence-oriented Jevil fight:
    • Spamton has a unique spare method in cutting his strings, and the condition he's left in afterwards (falling "dead" onto the ground when cut free vs. exploding in a failed attempt to power up) makes more sense for his post-battle scene and the reaction Kris has while leaving the basement.
    • The cutscene immediately after sparing him also has a unique background and song that aren't present in the violent victory cutscene.
    • His post-battle speech afterwards is the same for both, and he turns himself into an item either way, but the mercy-granted Dealmaker glasses (a strong piece of equipment that grants a substantial D$ multiplier) are much less situational than the violence-granted Puppet Scarf (a weapon that massively buffs Ralsei's attack but also cuts his healing).
  • Strange-Syntax Speaker: He has [ONE WEIRD TRICK!!] in his dialogue where certain words are switched out for [LIMITED TIME ONLY], [NON-FUNGIBLE] advertising jargon and salesman lingo. Some of his sentences contain missing , too many [EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!!] or, just like in real scam emails, grammatical and spelling errors in [Specil] places. The most intriguing aspect of his speech is [[Hyperlink Blocked]], a phrase he's seemingly censored from saying by an outside entity (common theories are that it means "soul", "freedom", or "LOVE", as in 'Level of Violence' from Undertale). A full analysis of his dialog quirks can be found here.
  • Stylistic Suck: Invoked on two occasions:
    • Spamton's shopkeeper image is noticeably poorly-drawn and sketchy, with wobbly lines and slightly aysmmetrical features in a way that emphasizes that there is something wrong with him.
    • The NEO body that Spamton hijacks is very poorly drawn. It has no shading whatsoever, simplistic shapes, and instead of using different sprites for its animations, it just sloppily moves the limbs around (possibly due to his puppet-like body). Compare this to his head, which is properly shaded and has four different sprites that it swaps through. There's a reason for this — NEO is just a doodle made in a simple paint program by Mettaton's unnamed Deltarune counterpart.
  • Suddenly Voiced: Rather than voice clips like Jevil, he gets a Voice Clip Song of the phrase "Now's your chance to be a big shot!" in all of his themes. "BIG SHOT" also includes two spoken verses implicitly uttered by him, both of which revolve around anxiously awaiting a phone call (the second verse is absent on the soundtrack album).
  • Superboss:
    • Spamton NEO holds the Shadow Crystal of Chapter 2, although unlike Jevil, he is more involved in the story. Defeating him by reducing his HP rewards the player with the PuppetScarf, a weapon for Ralsei with greatly increased attack power at the cost of less magic, while cutting his strings gives the Dealmaker armor, which greatly increases money gained after battles.
    • While he's the Final Boss in Chapter 2's Weird Route, he could still be considered this based on the fact that said Weird Route is very well obscured in the game, even more so than the way to fight him in the regular route.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Besides Mettaton as stated above, he's also a good contender for a Flowey substitute. Spamton starts off as a diminutive homicidal maniac obsessed with getting Kris's soul. Also, if he gets into Queen's mansion (one way or another), then he, like Flowey, will try to become God. In the Weird route, you even have to call for your friends' help at the end of the fight, just like the Photoshop Flowey fight. Also, they're both oddly possessive of the main character of their respective games (though to be fair, Flowey has mistaken Frisk for being the Fallen Child, whereas Spamton literally just sees Kris as their only friend). Some of his attacks as Spamton NEO even involve "friendliness pellets"!
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: During his first boss fight, the HUD text insists that "there's nothing wrong.", over and over again.
  • Symbol Swearing: Spamton will occasionally swear with this, in brackets.

    T-Y
  • Talkative Loon: He makes Jevil sound downright lucid, prattling on constantly and launching into barely-relevant tangents as a signifier of his unhinged nature.
  • Tempting Fate: In the alternate Weird Route of Chapter 2, Spamton will mock you near the end of the battle as Kris calls out for their friends to help. When they whisper for Noelle, Spamton gladly says how little he's worried about her. Then, he starts feeling cold…
  • Terms of Endangerment: He'll call Kris a "[[Little Sponge]]" to demean them.
  • Theme Song Reveal: Once you get to visit his shop, you'll notice that the shop's background music, "Dialtone", is an off-key piano rendition of a section from Jevil's theme song, "THE WORLD REVOLVING", hinting at Spamton's nature as Chapter 2's Superboss (with his battle theme as Spamton NEO also interpolating "THE WORLD REVOLVING") and his connections with Jevil.
  • These Are Things Man Was Not Meant to Know:
    • When fought in the Weird route, Spamton laments that the Voice on the phone abandoned him for asking too many questions. However, we learn from another character in the normal route that he did get a call on the day of his eviction, the purpose of which is unknown but might have only worsened things.
"GO [ahead] AND SCREAM INTO THE [Receiver].
      THE [Voice] RUNS OUT EVENTUALLY
      YOUR [Voice] THEIR [Voice]
UNTIL YOU REALIZE YOU ARE ALL ALONE
THERE WILL NO MORE [Miracles] NO MORE [Magic].
YOU LOST IT WHEN YOU TRIED TO SEE TOO FAR....
      ... YOU LOST IT..."
    • Hinted at in his shop; when asked to describe himself, he starts talking about how he used to be in charge of e-mails but had a "[[Communion]]" to become the "[[It Burns! Ow! Stop! Help Me! It Burns!]] guy". In the Japanese translation, he says he eventually became the "[[Wait, it's so bright, my eyes hurt, STOP!]]" guy.
    • If you isolate the hidden vocals from "BIG SHOT", it sounds like Spamton is telling his Anonymous Benefactor that someone or something is coming for him (usually heard as either "something's coming for me" and "I think he's coming for me"), and at the very, very end, seems to say "just tell me what you're really selling" (overlapped with another voice clip saying "BIG SHOT"), implying that Spamton wasn't aware just what he was selling, and when he tried to find out, he was driven insane and became the madman with a Electronic Speech Impediment we know him as today.
  • Thin Chin of Sin: Pairing with his Villainous Cheekbones, Spamton's chin sharply tapers in a way that the other Addisons' chins don't, signaling out his greater maliciousness right away.
  • Thought They Knew Already: After activating his "Bluelight Specil" mode during the Weird Route, he assumes Kris already knew NEO is famous for its high defence.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Spamton NEO is way nastier in the Weird Route than he is as the Superboss in a normal route; while in the normal route, he repeatedly asks Kris during the battle to join him in his quest to reach Heaven & his idea of stealing Kris's SOUL seems to be rooted in Blue-and-Orange Morality, and (if defeated in a pacifist way) he has a brief attempt at redemption before seemingly dying as himself, in the Weird Route, he actively threatens to kill Kris and taunts them during the battle with crude puns about their impending death, mock concern for the evil things they did, and (near the end) how no one will come and save them.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: In his normal form, his legs are ridiculously tiny compared to his upper-body or his big head.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Given that he calls Kromer "Delicis" and that one of his attacks (in both his normal and NEO fights) entails inhaling dollar signs, it's implied that he eats money whenever it's given to him.
  • Treacherous Quest Giver: He provides Chapter 2's main sidequest, offering Kris the chance to be a [[BIG SHOT]] if they help him get his hands on the robotic body in the mansion's basement. However, the first thing he'll do with that body is try and kill Kris to get at the SOUL within them.
  • Troubled Backstory Flashback: One of his flavor texts during the NEO fight mentions that he's begging "the audience" to "stop taking the furniture out of his room", implying that he's remembering the day he was evicted from Queen's mansion, the start of his current pathetic existence.
  • Turns Red: An interesting example from being given this mechanic retroactively. As of the 1.06 update, if he notices that you're using the "Big Shot glitch," he'll "get mad" and his attacks hit even harder. 1.07 adds to this by increasing the health of his attacks that have health of their own like his heart attack and face attack.
  • Uncertain Doom: The game seems to give conflicting explanations for Spamton's status after he is beaten in his NEO form and transforms into an item. On one hand, his Heel–Face Door-Slam, parting words, the fact that the player still receives the PuppetScarf in his deadlier Weird Route defeat, and the Addisons mourning him seem to indicate that he's essentially dead. On the other hand, Ralsei says that he "turned into our ally", and if the player somehow has a full item stash and tries to pick the transformed Spamton-item, Spamton, while still an item, will angrily rant about the player filling up stash just to exclude him, and then moves off the corner of the screen (while still an item) and into a chest, all of which seem to indicate that he's still alive as an item. There's also the Spamton Sweepstakes, which features Spamton performing a Hostile Show Takeover on the Deltarune website and giving hints to Chapter 3 while answering questions from the audience, although its uncertain how canon this is and whether it takes place after the events of Chapter 2.
  • Unexpected Shmup Level: His boss fight sees the return of the yellow bullet-shooting SOUL from Mettaton EX's fight, now shooting to the right as a side-scrolling shooter. Susie and Ralsei can even power it up with faster shots and an Orbiting Particle Shield.
  • Unknown Rival:
    • Implied to be this for Jevil, having stated a desire in his own boss fight to grow even stronger than him. Jevil, on the other hand, doesn't mention him once. His hate of the jester is elaborated on in the Spamton Sweepstakes event, but it's still not indicated that Jevil knows him.
    • Also to Queen. In the Weird Route, he dismantles her power structure, uses her faculties to ascend into his NEO form, apparently takes command of her followers, trashes her mansion, spreads bombs throughout its interior, and even seeks to claim the Dark Fountain for himself. Queen, when she briefly appears in the Route, seems to either never even have noticed, or doesn't even care.
  • Unperson: Spamton's name was apparently erased from the records after he went insane and lost everything he ever had. Alongside this, Swatch acts like Spamton does not exist, and some of the Addisons will act like they don't know Spamton if asked about him. Only once Spamton dies does anybody bring him up, Swatch allowing conversation about him and the Addisons gathering to mourn him, while also revealing his past.
  • The Un-Reveal: After talking about how he formed a [Communion] that got him to where he is now, he'll mention that the concept has some form of association with the Knight, until he's apparently forced to stay quiet about it.
  • The Un-Smile: Referenced in one of his flavor texts which states that he flashes an award-losing smile.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Due to his Electronic Speech Impediment, almost all of his dialogue is cobbled together from sales lingo, corrupted slang, stock phrases, and random words that convey what he wants to say. The most peculiar of these phrases is "[[Hyperlink Blocked]]".
  • Vacuum Mouth: Present in both of his fights, with it even distorting the battle box. As Spamton NEO, if you don't blast him away, he'll swallow the entire box up and spit the SOUL out.
  • Verbal Tic: He misspells some of his words and/or puts them in brackets, like when he says "[specil]" in place of special, possibly as a reference to how actual spam email is often purposefully misspelled both as an attempt to humanize the writer and as an attempt to get the message past spam blockers. He also always associates with phrases of "[[Hyperlink Blocked]]" and being a "[BIG SHOT]".
  • Video Game Cruelty Punishment: Push Noelle into becoming stronger, and instead of the usual boss fight, you'll have to fight Spamton NEO, alone. By the end of his fight, he'll call you out for what you did, even when he was able to take over the place thanks to it.
  • Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: Even at his best, Spamton is an insane, murderous manipulator featured in a chapter with humor around every turn, characters with good intentions at worst and a wholesome conclusion helping Noelle grow as a person and Queen making a Heel–Face Turn. Any situation involving him is significantly more unsettling than anything else on the normal route, and while he doesn't start the Weird Route itself, he quickly proves himself to be Eviler than Thou to Queen by enabling it, and essentially climbing over the corpses of his fellow Darkners to get what he wants.
  • Villain Has a Point: His nature as a puppet attempting to break free of whatever controls him, even if it becomes detrimental to him, is implied to have hit Kris closely. And while he acknowledges enabling the Weird Route, he admonishes Kris and the player for even starting it.
  • Villainous BSoD:
    • Spare his NEO form by taking out all his wires, and he'll stop attacking and change to a friendlier tune (both figuratively and literally). After that, the music comes to a halt as he suddenly collapses, lying motionless on the floor.
    • Whether your spared him or fought him, his last scene drops the erratic speech patterns, solemnly encourages the trio to break their "own strings", and rewards you with his equipment and the Shadow Crystal.
  • Villainous Cheekbones: His design includes exaggeratedly high and prominent cheekbones that fit his nature as an unhinged manipulator. This is especially visible during his attacks in his first fight and on his shop sprite, both of which exaggerate the cheekbones even more and make them visibly pointy. Strangely, they become much more subtle after he transforms into the more openly malicious Spamton NEO.
  • Villain Song: Other than the credits music, Spamton's themes are the only tracks in Deltarune with lyrics, with Spamton offering Kris to become a "[BIG SHOT]" and, in the song of the same name, frantically rambling about someone or something "coming for me" (as revealed by the talking Spamton plush, which contains the raw vocals to both of Spamton's battle themes).
  • Virtual-Reality Warper: Implied to have control over the environment of the mansion's basement as Spamton NEO with him creating a new "room" for his fight featuring a city in his own image, and likely wants to extend his reach to all of Cyber City.
  • Visual Pun:
    • Some of his attacks during his first battle involve increasing the size of his head to send or pull in bullets. As this is during his explanation of how he used to be a "big shot" and knowing how badly he wanted to be successful, it's a literal case of him "getting a big head".
    • Similar to the Alternate Character Reading in the Japanese version, the VCR symbols in his ultimate attack are a visual and phonetic play on "Recording" and "Rewinding". Like Mettaton's "REC/PAUSE/REW" attack, Spamton has a "WRECK/PAUSE/SPEW" display.
    • Spamton lives in a garbage dumpster when you meet him—you find him down in the literal dumps.
  • Voice Clip Song: Spamton's leitmotif is a remix of someone saying the phrase "Now's your chance to be a big shot!" It's unknown if this line was recorded for this game or if it was sampled from elsewhere. The style is similar to that of Hideki Naganuma's music, while its first Boss Remix, "NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A", recalls Art of Noise.
  • Voice Grunting: A distorted electronic noise that sounds like laughter, chopped up from the vocal samples in his boss theme. As Spamton NEO, the noise is lowered in pitch.
  • Walking Spoiler: The fact that this seemingly random salesman NPC, who is introduced as a rambling homeless guy living in a dumptster, is actually Chapter 2's Shadow Crystal holder is already enough of a surprise, but he's also very hard to talk about without revealing his role in the secret Weird Route, or his past and motivations.
  • Weak to Magic: Implied. Once you start calling for help after he engages his all-out defense on the Weird Route, he specifically calls Kris/you out for trying to defeat him "with your friends' [Magic]". Sure enough, once Noelle answers the call, she absolutely shreds him with ice spells that hit for hundreds of damage, while Kris couldn't manage more than 10 per hit. It would also explain why he didn't try this trump card on the normal route: Susie is there and would easily wreck him with her magical Rude Buster.
  • We Buy Anything: Defied. Despite Deltarune's shopkeepers accepting Shop Fodder this time around, Spamton's shop has removed the "Sell" option with a "BUY MORE" option that loops back to the "Buy" menu.
  • We Can Rule Together: To sweeten the "deal", the plan he offers includes making Kris "Big" as well, as long as they forfeit the SOUL.
  • We Used to Be Friends:
    • The other Addison NPC's around town were his old friends in the past. As fellow salespeople, they often hung out and were there for him when his skills were lackluster compared to theirs. Spamton pushed them away as he was realizing his ambitions, and they cut contact when they believed he wouldn't need them anymore. After the battle against his NEO form, they can be seen gathering around his old shop in the trash piles to lament what happened to him.
    • His career landed him a spot in Queen's court and a life in the mansion. Once his usefulness dried up, he was unceremoniously kicked out. These days, he's known to mimic the style of Queen's head butler and more legitimate shopkeeper, Swatch, who in turn pities his situation, considering he used to be a "valued customer".
    • During the Spamton Sweepstakes Q&A, Spamton reveals that Swatch was once someone he could confide in, and a "[shoulder to cry on]". When or why their friendship ended is unknown.
    • Spamton alludes to a figure named "Mike," believing he won't need them to become a [[BIG SHOT]] anymore. Downplayed, however, in that he immediately warns you not to believe "Everything you see on television" and that Tenna is "A CRIMINAL," implying he still feels fond enough of Mike to feel the need to stop Malicious Slander against him (though, at that point it seemed like the warning was about Mike until the Spamton Sweepstakes clarified that the criminal is named Tenna, not Mike).
  • Wham Line: He starts belittling Kris near the end of the Weird Route in Chapter 2 when they start calling out for Noelle, saying "WHAT'S SHE GONNA DO, MAKE ME AN [Ice Cream]!?". And then he notes something a little strange with the temperature....
Spamton: HEY, IS IT COLD IN HERE OR IS IT JUST ME?
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • He belittles Kris during the Weird Route, disgusted in the manipulation of Noelle and how it helped him take over the mansion. While it's hypocritical since he tacitly encouraged it, he also makes sure to mention how he gave them a way out of it and that they're still at fault for starting it and pushing things too far. By extension, this also applies to the player.
Spamton NEO: I TOLD YOU [4 Left] AND ASKED YOU [Buy] OR [Don't Buy]!
    • Drain his HP during his normal form battle in the dumpster, and he'll admonish you for using violence as he leaves the scene (and the storyline). If you bought the ThornRing from him, aborted the Weird Route afterwards, then ended this very battle with violence, he'll angrily tell you that buying the ring from him doesn't also give you the right to beat him up, before making his leave.
    • If you specifically go out of your way to fill your inventory of equippable objects so that Spamton is unable to enter your inventory after you defeat him for a second time, he immediately points out that you had to buy a lot of the same equipment to fill up your inventory and calls Kris out for it. He'll then move himself and the Shadow Crystal to a chest out back.
Spamton: YOU FILLED YOUR [Inventorium] WITH [Half-Pr1ce Sallamy] JUST TO KEEP ME OUT!?
[...] YOU CAN CARRY LIKE 48 ITEMS!!! [Why] DID YOU DO THIS!? WHY!? [Y]!? [Yellow]!? [Gamma]!?
  • What the Hell, Player?: In the Weird Route, where he becomes the final boss, part of his dialogue cryptically calls out the player for attempting to go through the route in the first place, just to see what would happen. In his words, "YOU LOST IT WHEN YOU TRIED TO SEE TOO FAR...." However, given the fact that he strongly encouraged Kris (and thereby the player) to keep pushing forward, his statement is more than a little hypocritical.
  • Who's Laughing Now?: Twice over.
    • He began life as a salesman that couldn't get any attention for himself or his offers, and despite his rough start, he swore his hard work would pay off and make him a "Big Shot" one day. With the right phone call, he got the advice he needed and soared in popularity just like he said he would, pushing all his old friends away. Little did he know, it wouldn't last.
    • Now reduced to living in a trash heap and left to rot in obscurity, he hatched an idea to hijack an old Lightner's creation for himself, so he could ascend to something greater. Should he access the machine one way or another, he'll be hysterical over being close to reaching "Heaven".
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?:
    • Spamton is repeatedly shown to suffer from coulrophobia. According to a Werewire NPC, back when he was a popular salesman, he lobbied to prevent a merry-go-round from being built, as he was deathly afraid of clowns. Part of his motivation to make it "big" is rooted in surpassing that "[[Clown Around Town]]", and if you equip either the Jevilstail or Devilsknife during his showdown as Spamton NEO, he'll acknowledge them and respond with "[Clown]!? NO!!! I FEEL SICK!!!" He also seems to hate Jevil in general; see Sitcom Arch-Nemesis above for more detail.
    • He also has an irrational hatred of televisions, claiming not to trust anything you see on TV, calling it a criminal, the Spamton Album announcement telling you to kill your TV repeatedly, the Ode to Spamton's second part mentioning destroying one's TV with a battering ram for its horrible crimes and using [Cathode] as a term to refer to somebody that did something to Mike. It's implied that this is due to his experiences with a TV-themed entity named "Tenna," who likely was the [Cathode] mentioned earlier.
  • Wings Do Nothing: The large, multi-colored wings he has as Spamton NEO are useless, with his body being held up by wires instead.
  • Word-Salad Horror: Spamton's garbled and nonsensical dialogue is played equally for humor and for horror. He's regularly interrupted by spam and advertisement jargon, and it's implied that he can't control it. It's especially prevalent in the Spamton NEO fight, where his gibberish mixed with the creepy visuals make for a surreal experience.
  • Word-Salad Humor: Archaic slang, odd formatting for dialogue, random tangents from frequent mood swings, stock phrases seemingly taken from every sales pitch out there, and Pipis.
Spamton: W1LD PR1ZES, HOTSINGLE, 100 CUSTOMER, AND MOST OF ALL... [Hyperlink Blocked].
  • Words Can Break My Bones: One of his attacks is spitting sales-related words at you that include "$$DEALS$$", "BARGAIN$", and "$$PRICES$$".
  • Wrong Genre Savvy:
    • At the end of the pacifist approach to his fight, he realizes that the Lightners were trying to cut his strings the whole time, and stops attacking so he can praise them for being such good friends. He welcomes the chance to finally fly off, free as a bird… and when the last string is cut, he falls and stops moving, with the strings being the only thing that kept him up.
    • On the violent end of the fight, he'll try to power up into a new form using the charge supplied by the wires to become "Spamton [EX]". All it does is cause him to explode.
    • He comes to think himself as a god and capable of delivering a Breaking Speech to Kris at the end of the Weird Route, almost as if he were the Chara or Flowey archetype of the story. Upon summoning Noelle, he's proven wrong quickly.
  • You No Take Candle: As part of his Electronic Speech Impediment, his dialogue is usually stilted, grammatically incorrect, or misspelt, implying he's splicing some of his words and phrases from different sources.

Pipis

"The Original" An invasive species of freshwater clam.
"I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A MAN OF THE [PIPIS]. A REAL [PIPIS] PERSON!"
Spamton NEO
Strange exploding blue eggs/clams. Normally restricted to being part of Spamton's attacks, they become one of the few remaining obstacles on Chapter 2's alternate "Weird" route.
  • Action Bomb: The only action a Pipis can do is explode into a cluster of Spamton head bullets that fly at the SOUL, which removes them from the battle.
  • Allegorical Character: Spamton Sweepstakes implies that the Pipis represent a virus that Spamton inadvertently gave Noelle's computer, which appeared as a glitchy egg in a virtual pet game.
  • Ambiguous Syntax: Their Check description simply reads "'The Original' An invasive species of freshwater clam." The offbeat wording of this is designed in such a way that it can be interpreted as either "the namesake is a real-world species of clam" or "they are a real-world species of clam," tying into the broader Word-Salad Humor and Word-Salad Horror surrounding Spamton.
  • Distaff Counterpart: There is a rare variant of them with a 1/100 chance encounter rate named "Ms. Pipis". Other than the somewhat differing name and the pink bow on the side, there is no real difference between them and the regular version.
  • Funny Background Event: During the Weird Route, the Flavor Text accompanying encounters with them in the mansion or during Spamton NEO's fight might add, "[X] people liked this!", in the bottom right corner.
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: Absolutely nothing is explained ingame about what these things are, and nobody actually reacts to them like they need explaining. Given their association with Spamton, it doesn't take away from anything and makes everything feel even stranger about him. Spamton Swepstakes would later explain just what they are and what they represent; they're a virus that Spamton accidentally gave to Noelle's save file of "Cat Petterz 2."
  • Heal Thyself: In the Weird Route, both Kris and Spamton can heal themselves by consuming these during their showdown.
  • Informed Species: The Check description states that they're invasive freshwater clams, and connecting the dots suggests that they're based on Plebidonax deltoides, a species from Australia that are locally known as pipi(s). However, the real-world clams are a saltwater species, are white instead of electric blue, and their singular is "pipi," not "pipis." Even still, Pipis resemble and behave more like eggs than clams. Spamton NEO explicitly calls them eggs in his battle dialogue, they're listed as "Pipis_egg" in the game's files, and a tweet by Toby Fox (in response to an announcement about the then-new "nest with eggs" emoji) implies this as well. Given Spamton's usual nonsense (in addition to the other details about the enemy not matching up with the actual clam species), this is likely deliberate.
  • Inherently Funny Words: Them being named "Pipis" is part of Toby Fox's running gag and inside joke about misspellings of Pepsi and similar words, such as "Bepis".
  • Introduced Species Calamity: Wherever they are from is unknown, but Spamton has either smuggled an astronomical amount of them into the Cyber World, or his and the player's actions have caused something that kept them away to stop working. As a result, they overrun the castle within a short span of time.
  • N-Word Privileges: Spamton claims that you can only call Pipis "eggs" if you're friends with them.
  • Proj-egg-tile: Spamton NEO fires out bouncing Pipis for one of his attacks. The Pipis themselves aren't dangerous, but if they aren't destroyed with the yellow SOUL's bullets before they get into the battle box, they'll explode into a nearly unavoidable bullet spread.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Tastes Like Purple: According to Spamton A. Spamton, raw Pipis taste like fresh.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Parodied. Update 1.07 added "Pipis Fanservice" in the form of Ms. Pipis, whose only difference from normal Pipis is a pink bow.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Neither Ralsei nor Susie react to the Pipis, unlike with any other enemy where there is an ACT involving them.
  • Word-Salad Horror: Their odd names add to Spamton's penchant for this, and narration refers to them only by name in a Non Sequitur manner. While humorous, it can also be off-putting to see a ton of them flood the mansion in the Weird Route with little elaboration beyond their odd check description.
  • Word-Salad Humor: The game deems it necessary to not only give them their rather funny-sounding name, but to also draw an arrow letting you know that's what they're called whenever they enter the battlefield (both as an enemy and as one of Spamton NEO's attacks).

The National Spamton

During the "Spamton Sweepstakes" livestream, Spamton A. Spamton (a Spamton impersonator) announces that the "National Spamton" will play. The song in question is a low-quality marching band rendition of "Happy Birthday" that starts and stops at random intervals, and is treated with all the gravitas of a proper national anthem, all while a Spamton flag is hoisted at equally random intervals.

How well does it match the trope?
