* CallBack: For his boss fight as Spamton NEO, he brings back the rollercoaster-style battlefield that Berdly introduced earlier in the chapter. Defeat him by [=FIGHTing=], and he tries to brush off his emanating "[Victory Smoke]" as a sign of him changing into a stronger form, before exploding. This recalls Berdly claiming his car was emitting "Smart Smoke" to show him becoming stronger, only to have it blow up in his face.

** Puppets are often thought to be soulless. In the normal route, he tries to take your SOUL to become something greater than he was. Meanwhile, in the Weird Route, he assists the player until the end, where he turns against you. This puts Spamton squarely in the role of Flowey. There's even some dialogue in the Weird Route where if you interact with Queen's Basement door more than once, Spamton will say he's busy becoming "God", much as Flowey did. Also it's implied that one of the [=[[Hyperlink Blocked]]=]s is supposed to be LOVE, which means that in his first appearance, Spamton wants Kris to show his "[=HeartShapedObject=]" in exchange for LOVE -- neatly paralleling Flowey's first encounter. In addition to this, his first encounter also calls back to Flowey's when he says "YOU WANT IT. YOU WANT [[Hyperlink Blocked]], DON'T YOU?", a direct reference to Flowey's "You want some LOVE, don't you?" line. This may be why the music that plays in Queen's Basement, "Digital Roots," is based on "You Idiot", one of Flowey's leitmotifs.

*** Their roles in their games' respective "bad" routes differ greatly. While Mettaton is an egotistical piece of work, he ultimately decides to buy Alphys more time to evacuate other monsters during the Genocide route even though he knows he's no match for Frisk, [[HeroicSacrifice sacrificing himself in the process]] as NEO. By contrast, Spamton is more than willing to sell out his fellow Darkners in the Weird route, keeping count of the amount of Darkners Noelle has frozen before selling Kris the [=ThornRing=], allowing Noelle to use the fatal [=SnowGrave=]. Amongst the chaos, he takes over Queen's Mansion and, as NEO, fights Kris tooth and nail to keep the fountain open so he can revel in his newfound glory, all while mocking Kris for manipulating Noelle. He remains DefiantToTheEnd as he's only defeated once Noelle suddenly shows up and kill ''him''.

** If you [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyFukA2M21c isolate the hidden vocals]] from "BIG SHOT", it sounds like Spamton is telling his AnonymousBenefactor that someone or something is coming for him (usually heard as either "something's coming for me" and "I think he's coming for me"), and at the very, very end, seems to say "just tell me what you're really selling" (overlapped with another voice clip saying [[{{Catchphrase}} "BIG SHOT"]]), implying that Spamton wasn't aware just what he was selling, and when he tried to find out, he was driven insane and became the madman with a ElectronicSpeechImpediment we know him as today.

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Much like Berdly in the Weird Route, he gets frozen to death by Noelle - although unlike Berdly, he absolutely deserves it after what he's done.

* {{Determinator}}: Spamton is many things, but someone to give up, he is ''not''. When he was a nobody hanging out with his fellow Addisons, he wouldn't stop talking about how he will be a big shot, and although he became desperate over time, he never gave up no matter how unsuccessful his attempts were, and he eventually made it big - for a while. When he [RichesToRags lost everything he ever had] and was reduced to an insane homeless man who was either hated or ignored by anyone he's ever known, he ''still'' didn't give up and continued to strive to regain his fame and power. He had ''at least'' two plans in mind for how to get back at everyone who wronged him (ranging from asking someone to upload him into a new body to assisting in the mass murder of his own people), and both work out in the end. He seems to finally hit the DespairEventHorizon after the end of his Neutral Route boss fight where the last shreds of his hope are ripped away, but still decides to help the Delta Warriors by joining them as a piece of equipment.

* EccentricAI: He's a LivingProgram whose contact with [[AnonymousBenefactor a mysterious voice on the telephone]] eventually [[GoMadFromTheRevelation]] caused him to go absolutely batshit insane, becoming a garbage-can dwelling, NonSequitur spouting, [[LargeHam bombastic]] weirdo who's obsessed with becoming a [[BIG SHOT]].

** Spamton is associated with avian motifs, underscoring his connection to the birdlike Swatch. His GagNose in his default appearance resembles a bird's beak, and in his NEO form, he acquires a pair of large wings, his pompadour becomes a featherlike crest, and his overall appearance resembles that of a mechanical {{Tengu}}. He also produces blue robin eggs called "Pipis" which hatch into smaller versions of himself. His live action doppelganger Spamton A. Spamton also refers to making a nest out of a Pipis Bath Rug. He also has a few lines alluding to flight, which metaphorically ties into his desire to be free and "reach heaven", something he is ultimately incapable of, leaving him a [[BrokenAngel crippled, flightless bird]].

* ArcVillain: Along with [[YouBastard the player]] for Chapter 2's Weird Route, helping Kris turn Noelle into a weapon so he can take over Queen's mansion and become NEO and then taking Queen's place as the chapter boss.

* ArmorPiercingQuestion: During his {{Superboss}} battle, he asks Kris if they intend to live their life as a heart on a chain. After the battle, Kris is acknowledged as being visibly distraught for some reason.

** Spamton's design and overall character contain a few references to Literature/{{Pinocchio}}, whose nose expands whenever he lies. Spamton's nose just so happens to be perpetually large, symbolizing his insincerity as a salesperson.
** The body of Spamton NEO clashes with the head, being comprised of basic shapes with no shading. According to Swatch when talked to after Spamton NEO's defeat, a Lightner (who is heavily implied to be ''Deltarune'''s incarnation of Mettaton) was in the library computer lab using Swatch's graphic software to doodle a hypothetical body while using the fill tool a lot. This perfectly describes a basic drawing done in software such as [=MSPaint=] with just a mouse.

* AstonishinglyAppropriateInterruption: Does this ''to himself'' near constantly. Phrases in brackets, while implied to not be part of his "default" speech, are usually relevant to his current subject, or a humorous substitution.

* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Noelle was the only person to click on his spam email, and he repaid her smidge of attention after falling from grace with an egg. Unfortunately, this egg corrupted one of Noelle's save files for the game "Cat Petterz 2," but she found the glitches entertaining nonetheless.

** The last thing he wants to do upon becoming Spamton NEO is to find a way to get rid of his strings. The trio oblige, and his excitement is dashed when the last string no longer supports his body, rendering him motionless.
* BecomeARealBoy: Befitting his theme about being a puppet. With all his talk about getting "[[BIGGER]]" with the SOUL and extending past "[HEAVEN]", it's heavily implied that Spamton's recent goal of becoming a "BIG SHOT" isn't just to obtain power, but to stop being part of the machinations of ''Deltarune''[='s=] world by transforming into ''something'' greater. He also says this phrase nearly word-for-word upon being Pacified, and it's even referenced in the title [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UJ5aTlQiDs of the track that plays for that scene.]]
* BehindTheBlack: The line "It pulls the strings and makes them ring" comes up a few times during the fight with Spamton NEO, namely as an occasional piece of flavor text and being said by the muttering voice in the background music. These imply that Spamton's puppet strings aren't just symbolic, but that there's [[MarionetteMaster something or someone]] actually pulling them just off the screen.

** As you progress through the mansion's basement, you might see a face in the dark with pink and yellow eyes sporting a wide grin, which only appears for half a second onscreen.

* BerserkButton: Spamming charged shots on him via exploits will cause him to become steaming with rage (complete with train whistles) and deal more damage.

* BigBadWannabe: In the Weird Route, he clearly fancies himself as being the [[VideoGame/{{Undertale}} No Mercy!Chara to Kris/Noelle's Frisk]]; he plays a major role in facilitating Noelle's corruption, including helping the player keep track of how many residents of the City they've killed and giving Noelle the [=ThornRing=], allowing her to kill Berdly; [[LetNoCrisisGoToWaste in the resulting chaos, he all but performs a coup on Queen]], littering her castle with his Pipis and remaking it in his own design while most of the workers remain trapped in their rooms, and Queen is preoccupied with Noelle and unable to rule. Much like Chara, he stays hidden throughout most of the route until he ambushes you at the very end, clearly intending to tie up loose ends and fully cement his control. Unfortunately for him, he learns too late that he's not the Chara of this story, but rather the Flowey.

** To spare him during his first encounter, you have to take the right dialogue choices to progress his Spare gauge. Naturally, you'd want to accept his "deal" since he's an embodiment of spam advertisements. In actuality, the right choice is to ''deny'' the deal every time he asks for payment in return, as he'll approve of it and admit that he isn't a salesman for the money, but for the sake of being a skilled businessman. When he pitches you a deal to become a [BIG SHOT], though, you have to accept.
** His plan to hijack the robot in the basement, then take the SOUL for himself, is seemingly an odd mix between self-serving motivations and actually believing that doing so is going to help Kris earn "FREEDOM" too. He becomes remorseful after defeat in a normal route, especially during the Pacifist outcome, though also shows in the Weird Route that he won't hold any compunctions about helping Kris and Noelle in the massacre of his fellow Cyber World Darkners when an opportunity rises.

** His catchphrase and insistence on being and becoming a "big shot" leads to his {{Superboss}} fight, where he reintroduces the Yellow SOUL, retaining its normal shooting mechanic… in addition to a ChargedAttack for a literal big shot. He points it out after your first use of it.

* CardCarryingJerkass: He freely admits he's screwing people over.

* CashGate: Played with. You need to buy a [=KeyGen=] from him in order to continue his sidequest. However, Spamton's prices change every second, so getting an affordable deal is a matter of timing, as the [=KeyGen=] usually costs a nigh-unaffordable 5-digit amount of KROMER (which is just another name for Dark Dollars). Fortunately, if you time it right, you can get a 3-digit price, a 2-digit price, or even '''zero'''.

*** Both desired freedom, were hidden away at the basement of the chapter's penultimate location, and have ties to a shopkeeper, with friends lamenting what became of them.
*** While Jevil was far more confident and comfortable with his understanding of things, Spamton is distinctly… less okay with it all, and seems to be much more at the mercy of his vanished AnonymousBenefactor.

*** Jevil, while undeniably lethal, acted as if he was simply playing, whereas Spamton makes his murderous intent in his boss fight extremely clear and personal.
*** They shared a desire for "freedom", but differed in that Jevil thought the world was inside his cage and was where true "freedom" was, when Spamton instead sought to cut his strings, only to end up ''less'' free than before.
*** While both of them pass on their power to the party after being defeated, Jevil parted with ominous portents and laughter, in contrast to how Spamton's story ends in despair when he could not achieve his dream.
*** Jevil was an entirely new creation, whereas Spamton has several [[SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute unnerving similarities to Mettaton,]] along with his NEO form being almost identical to Mettaton NEO from the neck down.
*** Jevil resembles a devil with his name even being a portmanteau of "jester" and "devil", while Spamton makes several references to "heaven" and appears as a cherub if the player presses F1 during his first boss fight.

*** Spamton NEO's boss fight is one to Mettaton. Both were prominent celebrities in their communities, recognized for their bombastic personalities, and they assume robotic forms labeled "EX" and "NEO". Their biggest plan is to take the SOUL to satisfy their craving for the attention of an audience, and when fighting them, they introduce the Yellow SOUL function. More specifically, Spamton acts as this for Mettaton NEO — just by being a ''legitimate challenge'' and not a ''[[ZeroEffortBoss straight up joke]]'' like Mettaton NEO was. He makes up for the joke at the end of the violent route's battle with an attempt to change into "Spamton EX", which does nothing. Mettaton abandoned his ambitions when he realized he had friends waiting for him, while Spamton has long-since regretfully disregarded his friends, until the Pacifist outcome, where ThePowerOfFriendship is Parodied. And, unlike Mettaton, Spamton lacks true agency, which is why he seeks Kris's SOUL. Also, while Mettaton was a GlassCannon in his NEO form, Spamton NEO is a LightningBruiser who can become a StoneWall as a last resort (albeit in the Weird route only).

* CoolShades: The Dealmaker is a pair of sunglasses he gives you for helping him cut his strings, and when equipped they greatly increase money earned from battles.
* CorruptedCharacterCopy: Spamton resembles Literature/{{Pinocchio}} in appearance and characterization, being a long-nosed puppet who [[BecomeARealBoy wants to become "real"]], but falls for [[TheCorruptor a false benefactor]]. Unlike Pinocchio, Spamton was never rescued by his friends after he faced the consequences of his actions, leaving him an abandoned and insane wreck who’s left [[GodhoodSeeker reconsidering what it means to become “real”]] and [[AmbitionIsEvil settled on being "a big shot" by any means necessary]]. Ironically this results in Spamton taking cues from [[TheBarnum "Honest" John Foulfellow]] when dealing with Kris.
* TheCorrupter: Urges Kris to follow his plans to become a "Big Shot", and in the hidden Weird Route of Chapter 2, encourages you to push Noelle into becoming stronger.

** At one point later into the fight, Spamton NEO picks up the phone, and the caller wants to talk to him instead of Kris, leading to him losing a turn as he's blasted in the face with his own head-projectiles.
** There's a chance he might use his "face" attack even after you've already destroyed the eyes, nose, and mouth. It won't let him launch any bullets, giving you a free turn if it happens. However, the next time the attack shows up, the face will be good as new.
* CrossReferencedTitles: His initial battle theme is called "NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A", while his NEO battle theme is called "BIG SHOT".
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Much like Berdly in the Weird Route, he gets frozen to death by the fatal Snowgrave spell.

* DarkestHour: During the Spamton NEO fight in the Weird route, once Kris whittles his HP down to 10%, Spamton will [[StoneWall activate [=NEO's=] high defense/low attack trade]], doing less damage and being much easier to avoid, but impossible to defeat. In a desperate attempt to take him down, Kris tries to call their friends for help... [[CallBack but nobody came]]. As Spamton mocked Kris for trying to rely on their friends' magic, the "strange voice" called for Noelle's name, causing her to [[CurbstompBattle take him down instantly]].

** At the end of Spamton's final boss fight in the Snowgrave route, a sped-up version of the aforementioned "Deal Gone Wrong" plays as the player calls for help. This remix is actually not present in the OST, either.

* DeathIsTheOnlyOption: No matter the route you fight him in in his Spamton [=NEO=] form, he will always die, or at the very least lose his physical body. Defeating him violently in Neutral will result in him trying to transform into Spamton [=EX=], which only results in him [[DefeatEqualsExplosion exploding]], while cutting all the wires but one results in him [[HopeSpot celebrating his freedom and thanking the team for their help, only to fall to the ground]]. Meanwhile, in the Weird route, he's [[KillItWithIce frozen to death by Noelle]]. All three outcomes end with him transforming into a piece of equipment that the player can use.
* DefeatEqualsExplosion: If defeated violently in his non-Weird route fight, he tries to transform into Spamton [=EX=] just to continue the fight. Unfortunately for him, it only leads to his own body exploding in the process.

** He's also actually aware of his status as a puppet, and it's his driving motivation that's especially shown off in his Normal Route NEO boss fight, where he's driven to obtain a body he can be free in and is disappointed when he sees he's still strung up, this time in a literal sense. Cutting him free from his puppet strings kills him, showing that in the end, there wasn't any hope for him to be anything else.

* {{Determinator}}: Spamton is many things, but someone to give up, he is ''not''. When he was a nobody hanging out with the Addisons, he wouldn't stop talking about how he will be a big shot, and although growing desperate over time, he never gave up no matter how unsuccessful his attempts were, which paid off in the end. When he went RichesToRags and lost literally everything he's ever had, being driven insane and turned into nothing more than a homeless man who's either hated or ignored by anyone he's ever known, he ''still'' didn't give up and tried to gain his fame and power back. He had ''at least'' two plans in mind for how to get back at everyone who wronged him (ranging from simply telling someone to get a disk to helping in mass murder of his own people), and both work out in the end. He seems to finally hit the DespairEventHorizon after the end of his boss fight, but still decides to help the Delta Warriors by becoming an item.

** He has extra dialogue if you buy the [=ThornRing=] from him, abort the Weird Route, and then defeat him with violence. While he'll normally urge you to buy his "[Commemorative Ring]", he'll instead acknowledge it as part of a rant against you.
** If you have a full inventory when you beat him on a normal route, the item he rewards you with is placed in a chest outside, just like Jevil before him. Unlike Jevil, he'll react to a full inventory, appalled at Kris somehow managing to pack their inventory full, since doing so requires either conscious intent or implausibly extreme recklessness, and [[LastSecondWordSwap almost]] uses a PrecisionFStrike.

* DigitalAbomination: He gained consciousness about the artificiality of the game he's in, and is trying to ascend to "HEAVEN" by hijacking a body stored with corrupted data, before attempting to take Kris's soul after that doesn't work.

** He offers to make an unsuspecting Kris a "Big Shot" with "[Hyperlink Blocked]" when they meet [[TheCityNarrows in an alleyway]], asking for money or [[TheAggressiveDrugDealer otherwise]]. Not only that, but being a sentient clickbaiting and e-mail-spamming program, "[Hyperlink Blocked]" can mean all kinds of explicit content.
** Following the Poppups' earlier examples of "monsters 4 humans in your area" and "lightners 4 darkners in ur area", he prefaces one of his attacks by advertising "[[SelfDuplication LOCAL SINGLES STRAIGHT FROM [=[My]=]]]". [[CompensatingForSomething Then there's his talking about]] "getting big" and "[=ENL4RGE=] Yourself"--by which he means becoming a [[BIG SHOT]] of course.

** He's a shady online advertisement spambot, and one of his dialogue lines is "[[GagPenis ENL4RGE Yourself]]". Granted, he's talking about literally enlarging his entire body, especially his head.

* TheDreaded: It speaks volumes about Spamton when ''[[TheStoic Kris]]'' takes a few steps back, without the player's input (which means this was by the ''real'' Kris), when encountering Spamton. And this was ''before'' he was revealed to be a ShadowArchetype to the Lightner. After the battle with Spamton NEO, Susie and Ralsei were both clearly unnerved while Kris is on the edge of a mental breakdown. It's even implied the narrator fears him, as the option for leaving his store isn't the usual "EXIT", but "ESCAPE" or "'''RUN AWAY'''". There's also the fact he was banned from Queen's Mansion for a reason.
* DuelBoss: His initial battle is the only boss fight in Chapter 2 that Kris faces alone in the normal route. Push Noelle into killing enemies, and you'll have to face him one-on-one as the FinalBoss of the chapter's Weird Route.
* DyingAsYourself: Appears to gain some sort of lucidity right before he transforms into the Dealmaker/[=PuppetScarf=] once the NEO fight ends, as his usual manic way of speech and ElectronicSpeechImpediment are both gone as he delivers his final words and bestows the item unto your party. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] if you filled out your Weapons or Armor inventory to prevent obtaining it, where he'll berate the player for doing that in his usual manner of speech.
* EatingTheEnemy: If you don't repel his head during his special attack and get too close to his mouth, he'll gobble you up, deal some damage with his bite, then spits you back out into a new bullet board, dealing more damage with the impact.

** His speech is even worse in Japanese. He constantly switches every other word or syllable between kanji, hiragana, katakana, romaji, English words [[FunWithHomophones that sound like parts of Japanese ones]] (for example, spelling "daisuki" as "dieすき"), and GoroawaseNumber. The Japanese characters he uses also alternate between full-width and half-width.
** This even extends to the vocals in his music (implied to be him), which noticeably stutters and repeats words in a synthetic fashion. In "BIG SHOT", the vocals in the song's spoken-word verse also overlap and cut off one another (with the in-game version also including a sped-up version of this at the end), making them difficult to decipher without [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyFukA2M21c processing them through a spectrogram analyzer]].
* ElephantInTheLivingRoom: After encountering him, you can go around town and interact with the Addisons, apparently trying to ask them if they know anything about Spamton. Most of them respond by saying they don't want to talk about it. They only come to address him and elaborate on his story after his NEO fight.
* EquippableAlly: Turns into either the Dealmaker or the [=PuppetScarf=] upon defeating him via cutting the wires or by violence, respectively.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: You first encounter him as he hops out of a dumpster while trying to pitch you a "deal" in electronic WordSalad, showing a manic fascination for your "[=[HeartShapedObject]=]". During his pitch, he flips to lamenting about "LIVING IN A GODDAMN GARBAGE CAN" and promptly ''punches it in rage'' before going right back to deal-brokering like nothing happened. You've only met him for about a minute and he already shows himself as a shady salesman who's not all that there.

** He's a self-serving bastard who has no compunctions about encouraging your rampage on the Weird Route, but during the final battle with him, he makes it abundantly obvious that [[WhatTheHellPlayer he finds you completely sickening]]; not because of all the murders you've caused, but because you still think anybody will want to be your friend after all you've done. At the end of the fight, Spamton is ''exasperated'' when you try calling your friends for help, taunting you for thinking anybody would want to help you after everything you did. On the other hand, this could be [[PsychologicalProjection projection]] on Spamton's part, given that a lot of his insults apply to himself as well.
** It's implied that he fears and hates Jevil, and although it's unknown why, anyone who fights the MonsterClown in Chapter 1 can probably figure it out.
* EvilCounterpart: Of Swatch, the head butler in Queen's mansion. Both are shopkeepers dressed in monochrome with a dash of color, and offer you "Big Shot" clothing, but Swatch offers the "Butler Juice" healing item and is willing to buy your ShopFodder, while Spamton offers poison that harms you and refuses to be sold to. Swatch even implies that Spamton has been impersonating him to gain access to the basement.

** One of the Addisons notes that they could only make out some creepy garbage noise from a non-hanged phone call in Spamton's room at the mansion. It's unknown if Spamton heard similar things from his secret backer, but somehow could make sense of it, or even if the call came from said backer, and not some other unrelated entity.
** In Spamton NEO's boss fight in the normal route, Spamton will sometimes receive phone calls from a mysterious source. The second time this happens, the call will ''attack'' him, by blasting mini Spamton heads at his face; this doesn't hurt him, but it does waste his turn.
* EvilVersusOblivion: Spamton only wants to rule the Cyber World, using Kris and Noelle to reach this end in the Weird Route, but when Kris' warpath leads them to Spamton, he's forced to use the power of NEO on them to preserve what he just got.
* ExactWords: In his shop's menu.
** The "S. POTION" is described as "affects HP a lot". When you go outside to get a better look at it, it's revealed to actually be a concocted poison that damages you over time. Potions aren't always associated with medicinal use, after all, and it didn't say it would ''heal'' you, just that it would "affect your HP".

* ExplosiveOverclocking: Defeating Spamton NEO by depleting his HP has him mocking you for thinking that will actually work as he starts charging his body with electricity to become "SPAMTON [EX]", causing his body to start to glow and emit smoke before exploding.

* ExtremeOmnisexual: Spamton admits in the QNA that he's interested in just about anyone who is willing to give him money.

*** If you tried to cut his wires, he celebrates the party helping him cut his strings, before just flopping helplessly onto the ground. This one cumulates fun, fear, and sadness.

* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: There's no happy ending for him, no matter what you do in his [=NEO=] fight in both routes. [[HopeSpot Arguably, the 'best' ending you can get for him is to cut his wires to free him, and all that happens is that he just falls to the floor and presumably dies.]]

* FauxAffablyEvil: Is this in the Weird Route. He helps you in the route by telling you how many enemies are left to freeze in the City and sells you the [=ThornRing=], but all of this is in order to [[CorruptTheCutie corrupt Noelle]], and once you reach the castle's fountain, he plays this perfectly straight by thanking Kris for letting him take over the castle and eventually the whole city, continuously excuses himself during the battle, and eventually, [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech grills Kris with words]] before [[AssholeVictim he meets his fate by Noelle]].
* FinalBoss: In the Weird route for chapter 2, Spamton NEO is fought as the final boss, having taken over Queen's castle after Noelle went on a rampage (with Queen herself being warned of the Roaring ahead of time, skipping her fights as a result).
* FinalBossPreview: Fittingly for Spamton, a weirder example than most, as his is an unconventional {{superboss}} preview that takes several hoops to jump through to obtain in the first place. His fight at the end of Weird Route lacks several of his trickier attacks that he has as a {{superboss}} (his face, for example) possibly to balance Kris being the only available party member for this version of his fight. It also can't be won peacefully (as that ship has sailed) and ends rather in rather un-climactically, with Spamton becoming a HopelessBossFight, and finished off-screen by Noelle. The more definitive version is in the Normal Route, and it's implied [[NiceJobFixingItVillain Spamton screwed himself over by improperly trying to upload his mind into the NEO body by himself.]]

** Like Jevil hinted at Queen, Spamton warns Kris about somebody named Mike. He tells them to not trust everything they see on TV. At the end of the chapter, Kris creates a dark fountain at home and as it is engulfed in shadow, a sinister grin forms on their television. Even better, one of his battle quotes as Spamton NEO has him mention turning "THOSE [Cathode Screens] INTO [Cathode Screams]".
** There are a few references to his backstory before it's revealed. Projecting, he rants about being left behind with no friends and having lost control of his life. Some of the FlavorText during his Spamton NEO fight includes him begging "the audience" to stop taking the furniture out from his room. Near the end of his dialogue, he'll allude to something serious but gets cut off to answer the phone, which swarms him with his own attack.
** After passing through the city segment full of Addisons with Noelle, you then meet the infinitely dodgier salesman in the alleyway not too long after. There's also his worn-down advert for "Big Shot Autos", where he closely resembles them, further hinting at his connection to the Addisons before his backstory is revealed.

* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou: Asking him about "fear" on his shop menu has him briefly drop his speech impediment, begging for help. He cuts it off, and says he has no idea what that was...

** How he was reduced to what we see of him. Eventually, the calls that gave him his success stopped coming, and his sales and reputation both plummeted hard. In desperation, he seemingly resorted to consulting the phone and the caller further, but was only answered with "garbage noises" from the receiver. According to the lines of his dialogue at the end of a Weird Route, he too "LOST IT" when he "TRIED TO SEE TOO FAR".
** Kris, and most likely the Player, become rattled after the encounter with his NEO form. After Ralsei calls him "corrupted data" that was discarded, Kris gets goosebumps, and if Kris tells Ralsei and Susie that they are ''not'' fine, they are reduced to yelling their answer.

* GratuitousPanning: Both of his battle themes make liberal use of shifting parts of the music across the left and right audio channels, particularly with the "Wow!" voice clip. "BIG SHOT" in particular features an interpolation of "THE WORLD REVOLVING" that starts in the center of the mix before being shoved to the left channel when the song's verse kicks in.

* HighSpeedBattle: His fight as Spamton NEO in the normal route is of the ChaseFight variety, with you and Spamton firing on each other while speeding across train tracks.

* HopeSpot: Defeating Spamton NEO the merciful way leads to a brief moment of peace and joy as he realizes the heroes want to free him from his strings… only for him to collapse on the ground once the final string is cut, with nothing left to hold him up. The gang has to hang his original body up on some vines so he can give his parting words.

* IcarusAllusion: The winged NEO robot body is the object of his desires for freedom, meant to allow him to get "BIG" enough to soar past the darkness and clouds above until he (and supposedly Kris) can surpass "[Heaven]". In the normal route, once he finally gets his hands on it, he's enraged by the sight of the strings and recklessly makes it his goal to get rid of them by snatching the SOUL. [[AchillesHeel Cut them loose like he wants]], and instead of soaring off, he unceremoniously collapses to the ground.

* LaughingMad: Never stops smiling and laughing as he spams you with all sorts of sales pitches, and he gets worse as Spamton NEO. It's also weaponized in his first battle, where every attack begins with him enlarging his head to start cackling madly as he spews out a stream of projectiles from his maw.

* LethalJokeItem: Downplayed. There is no shortage of equipment that can easily outclass Spamton's Frayed Bowtie, but the latter carries the hidden effect of reducing the damage the wearer takes from his attacks by 15%, something not even Swatch's actual B.Shot Bowtie offers.

* LetUsNeverSpeakOfThisAgain: If you ask him about the Knight in his shop, he'll try to answer, but get cut off by his own tangents and quickly changes the subject. The option to ask him is then replaced, so you can only ask once.

* MadnessMakeover: We get a glimpse of what might've been his original appearance in a worn-down advertisement near his dumpster and [[https://www.fangamer.com/products/deltarune-spamtons-specil-fun-pak an air freshener sold on Fangamer]], and the Addisons around town claim he was just like them at one point. After he lost his sanity, he resorted to poorly imitating Swatch's style.
* MadnessMantra: He regularly yells about being a [[Big Shot!!!!!]]. He also constantly makes references to something called [[Hyperlink Blocked]] (initally implied to be potentially [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything a drug or some other questionable product]], though there are implications he's actually talking about LOVE or Determination — if it even refers to any singular specific thing). And during his boss fight, he makes repeated and ominous references to [[Heaven]].

* MercyMode: The Big Shot glitch is penalized less frequently if you get frequent game overs and struggle to defeat him otherwise.

** After the battle, Spamton drops his usual speech patterns to somberly deliver his last words, transforming into equipment… and if your inventory is full, the music stops as he admonishes you for filling your inventory (most likely on ''purpose'' considering your immense item space) to prevent him from entering it. The entire rant is delivered with his usual manner of speaking, and he slides out of the scene the same way the Mad Dummy did.

* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: It's been implied that, if Spamton did succeed in gaining his freedom and becoming NEO, he would go on a killing spree against the ones that wronged him. Even ignoring everything that happens on the Weird Route, one of the first things he says on his Normal Route fight is that he and Kris will turn "THOSE [Schmoes] AND [Daves] INTO [Rosen Graves]. THOSE [Cathode Screens] INTO [Cathode Screams]". And then come those two pieces of dialogue, which indirectly confirm Spamton considers the NEO body, the thing he desires the most, to be a killing machine.

* ShoddyKnockoffProduct: While Swatch sells the [=B.ShotBowtie=], Spamton's shop offers the "EXCLUSIVE OFFICIAL SPAMTON" "BSHOT BOWTIE", which is revealed to be an old Frayed Bowtie that's lost much of its defensive value. It's really an Inverted case; Swatch's superior bowties are said to have the brand names removed when checked, meaning Spamton likely used to sell them and kept some of the originals, which have deteriorated in quality over time.

* {{Superboss}}: Spamton NEO holds the Shadow Crystal of Chapter 2, although unlike Jevil, he is more involved in the story. Defeating him by reducing his HP rewards the player with the [=PuppetScarf=], a weapon for Ralsei with greatly increased attack power at the cost of less magic, while cutting his strings gives the Dealmaker armor, which greatly increases money gained after battles.

** Spamton alludes to a figure named "Mike", believing he won't need them to become a [[BIG SHOT]] anymore.
