Go To

Proof that the remaining 10% is worth taking a APTX-4869 for here:

These are recommendations made by tropers for Case Closed fanfics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. Feel free to add a fanfic of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found here.

Do warn when a fanfic may head into romantic or non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.

You can also add to the current recommendations if you want. Refrain from posting Conversation in the Main Page though; that goes in the discussion page.

Additional Notes:

  • Due to the canon's constant Crossovers and Canon Welding with Magic Kaito, many stories will assume a baseline familiarity with the latter's supporting cast and Myth Arc.note  This page currently has no set policy, but does advise that works centered on Kaito and/or the Pandora Gem be considered for Magic Kaito's page instead, or at least the Crossover folder below.
  • Fanfiction Net used to put Shinichi Kudo and Conan Edogawa on two separate entries. With the series' steady progress and the addition of a large cast, the website owners decided to have its character entries rearranged with Conan and Shinichi now having one entry. Hence, many old fanfictions with Conan as the main character which were published on this website before 2011 are now in Masumi Sera character entry, all thanks to their respective authors not bothering to move their stories to the new entry format.

Conversion from the "Comments" section to the "Reviews" option is underway. If you are adding a fic, please help us out and use the new template-format on the Fanfic Recommendations Index Page. Please start moving your comments to the reviews sections as we will soon start removing them.

Candyland

DireSphinx

  • Recommended by: Rabidrabbit, Dame-Amaryllis, oceanlover4evr, Rubber_Lotus
  • Comments: Primarily humor-based, which only makes her occasional forays into drama and angst so much sharper. Particularly recommended:
    • Necklaces - in which two thousand-odd words of nothing but dialogue comprise an absolutely side-splitting one-shot. Marvel as Shinichi's Amazingly Embarrassing Parents do what they do best without their son even being on the same continent.
    • We're Sorry - the complete antithesis of the above, in which the elder Kudos find themselves at the Syndicate's mercy and find there's no depths they won't sink to to keep their son safe.
    • Observations - in which Mitsuhiko becomes suspicious of Conan and Haibara and decides to go snooping. The Twist Ending that his father is Anokata may or may not be shocking, depending on how observant you are, but it is extremely terrifying.
    • Ten Commandments of Detective Conan: Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Ten Very Serious edicts every Conan fanfic is expected to follow. Or else.
    • Forgive and Falloutnote  - Dark Fics in which Haibara and Ran (respectively) walk the paths of a Woman Scorned and Shinichi pays the price.

Ellen Brand

  • Recommended by: SamCurt, Animenutcase, prussianredknight, bissek, lampyridae, Dame-Amaryllis, oceanlover4evr, whimsyful
  • Comments: Another prolific author, particularly renowned for her psychoanalytical approach to the series (which countless others have adopted since). Opinions may vary on how accurate her diagnoses are, but there's little doubting they raise some very interesting Alternate Character Interpretations.
    • An Unprofessional Opinion - The fic that started it all, featuring Original Character Cade Maboroshinote  psychoanalyzing Kid, Kogoro, Heiji, Hakuba, and "Conan." Also featuring numerous sequels, most prominently Unprofessional Opinion Gaiden.
    • About Edogawa - in which Division One celebrates another case closed down at the bar, and decide to brief the new guy about the biggest mystery in their lives: the boy detective known as Edogawa Conan.

Cursed Detective

  • Recommended by: Shadewolf7, patternleap, princessofthedeadsheep
  • Comments: Specializes in supernatural thrillers. Shipping preferences trend toward Kaito x Shinichi, though it's usually more platonic than romantic.
    • Lucid Dreams - in which 35-year-olds Kaito and Shinichi find Pandora and in exchange, gain an opportunity they never thought they'd have. Ultimately veers into a Kaito x Shinichi marriage.
    • (Not) Supernatural - in which experimental poisons and antidotes HAVE to have issues when combined. Post-series, a full-grown Shinichi survives a bullet through the lung and visibly begins healing, in full view of the Kaitou Kid Task Force. Misunderstandings and assumptions abound. Mostly humor, with eventual Kaito/Shinichi romance.

Mangaluva

  • Recommended by: Vonikay, Ran Mouri, Rubber_Lotus, bissek, kyrilu, Ethereal Zephyr, Dame-Amaryllis
  • Comments: Perhaps the fandom's oldest (semi)active author, with a distinctly Pratchettian approach to comedy and tragedy alike. Shipping typically uses the canon Ship Mates - Shinichi x Ran, Heiji x Kazuha, etc. - but her sporadically-updated Tumblr demonstrates a much more flexible approach to things.
    • When Pandora's Box Is Opened - A ninety-chapter saga touted as one of the most in-depth and heartwrenching takes on the Final Battle against the Syndicate and the Pandora Gem's origins (replete with adorable romance and epic fight scenes). Not for nothing was this the first Conan fic to get its own page on this very wiki.
    • Psychology Revision - Not an actual fic per se, but a series of psychological profiles on major cast members (Shinichi, Kaito, Shiho, Hattori, Ran, Gin, Hakuba, and Vermouth). Unlike those of An Unprofessional Opinion, these are written from a Doylist POV - i.e. a real-life reader (and Psychology first-year) instead of an in-universe character's.
    • Miracle - in which Conan is retold as a horror story, and absolutely nobody's safe.
    • A Phantom Thief - in which a heist goes wrong, and Kaito finds his job description no longer figurative. Good thing he's also got a new ally in a certain chibi-tantei who knows more about death than anyone had ever guessed... Long story short: Conan is a ghost Ghost Whisperer and lots of back-and-forth bodyswitching ensues, culminating in full-on Kaito x Shinichi romance.
    • A Spirit Detective - A Darker and Edgier Spiritual Successor to the above, in which the Apotoxin worked just as advertised... and Shinichi's ghost keeps on fighting the good fight, with the help of a Conan Edogawa who's determined to keep mum about how he came to be. On hiatus at the moment, but planned to run a few more chapters at minimum.

  • Comments: Well-known on the Magic Kaito side for her Reichenbach series. Her Conan-centric work focuses almost wholly on Amuro x Akai, with content ranging from quiet introspection to out-and-out smut. Sometimes in the same story.

justjoy (aka presumenothing)

  • Recommended by: Dame-Amaryllis, Rubber_Lotus
  • Comments: A master of bite-sized delights that punch way, way above their word count, whether Gen or Shipping. Also, in all likelihood, the fandom's foremost expert on the Nagano Trio.
    • don't let me be the last - Begins as Ran recovering from the aftermath of a bigger-than-usual case, and spins into what might be the most depressing Conan fic this troper's ever read.
    • Trigonometry - Snapshots of the trials and tribulations endured by the finest of Nagano's Finest. Beware of sudden angst.
    • 10% Civil 90% War - A Fusion Fic, told through vignettes, tossing the Conan cast headlong into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Featuring Shinichi as Cap, Heiji as the Falcon, Kazuha as the Black Widow, Shiho as Iron Man, and... Ran as the Winter Soldier.

Scratchienails

  • Recommended by: Dame-Amaryllis, Tsukireiko, PaperStars, Purple Candlelight
  • Comments: Only a handful of works so far, but radiating the care and Worldbuilding you'd typically expect from five authors. Not to be perused on a short attention span.
    • Schrodinger's Detective - In which the KID Capture Brigade decides to investigate the bizarre disappearance of one Shinichi Kudo. Cue action, intrigue, and a lovingly-painted picture of just how bizarre Shinichi's status would look to any outsiders who actually pay attention.
    • Dominoes - In-progress Door Stopper Super Fic that's also quite possibly the most brutal Deconstruction Fic you'll find in the fandom. You'll never look at Kid Hero teams, their adult mentors, or Kaito's life-calling the same way again. Oh, and as far as Shipping goes... beware brutal sinking of the S.S. Shinichi x Ran, with Shinichi x Kaito rising in its wake.
    • How to Be a Double Agent 101 - A unique and hilarious Crack Fic that features each of the spies infiltrating the Black Organization attempting to save Conan from each other. Short, light-hearted, and a delightful twist on canon.

MintChocolateLeaves

  • Recommended by: Rubber_Lotus
  • Comments: Self-proclaimed "villain to all fic-readers" and quite possibly the only Conan writer who can challenge Candyland in volume and versatility (do beware, though, that many of her AU stories are liable to be on hiatus). Periodically takes fic-requests on Tumblr.note
    • Cost of Freedom - Her flagship work, in which a framed-for-murder Shinichi finds himself in a a cell with Kaito Kuroba and slowly builds an alliance against their mutual enemies.
    • Cipher - Collection of Shinichi x Ran vignettes, featuring flowers, baths, drunken shenanigans, PTSD, and more.
    • Dysfunction-Verse - Vignettes taking Shinichi and Ran (and quite a few others) through a Dysfunction Junction lens. Mistrust, misjudgment, and general misery abound, even when it looks like the aforementioned Official Couple is getting their Happily Ever After.
    • Law Unto Themselves - In which criminal mastermind Shinichi Kudo and his equally brilliant (and much more twisted) companions clash with upstanding policemen that just happen to be marked by liquor nicknames. Not the series' first Mirror Universe fic by a long-shot, but definitely one of the most thrilling.

Enchanted Hats

  • Recommended by: Madhipsteraj
  • Comments: A true diamond in the rough, Enchanted Hats is probably one of the best fanfic writers you've have never heard of in general. But her Detective Conan fics are where her talents truly shine, as she not only has a near perfect grasp of canon but can also successfully balance the comedy, tragedy, and general badassness that makes up the best of Detective Conan. Unfortunately, she seems to have largely retired from writing Detective Conan fanfiction with her most recent fic being last updated in 2006.
    • Going Down - Her most famous fic, it involves Conan being both the only survivor and only witness to the perfect crime. The only problem is that Conan is comatose and thus unable to solve it himself, with the only hope being that Richard and the Moore's can understand the clues he left behind in order to bring the murderer to justice. With the perfect amount of angst and fluff as well as a great showcase of character development for the characters, this fic comes heavily recommenced.
    • Vindicated - A Darker and Edgier fic, it revolves around Shinichi's life a year into living with the Mouri's interrupted by a series of events that endanger the three of them greatly, culminating in the the Black Organization getting a bead of them... And it gets worse from there. Perfectly showcasing how all of Shinichi's lies could easily result in everything going to shit, as well as showing how they could negatively effect all around him, this fic is definitely a much read, especially for those looking for a little darkness and deconstructionism. A particular sad moment is the murder of Agasa showing that anybody can die. Unfortunately left for dead, and on a abrupt cliffhanger to boot.

Dissenter

  • Reccommended by: Madhipsteraj, Dame-Amaryllis
  • Comments: A jack of all trades when it comes to fanfiction genres, his fics can go from being funny crack to heartwrenching and angsty while also almost always crossing over with Magic Kaito. A more recent writer compared to the rest of the authors recommended here, his work is not without it's flaws but he certainly has talent and a capacity to create interesting ideas for stories.

Ikasul

  • Reccommended by: Madhipsteraj
  • Comments: A Swiss writer who also makes their own fanart, Ikasul is a incredibly talented writer who is both crazily creative and a has a good grip on the broad canvas of emotions that writing can entail. While their English is great, it is not their first language so be mindful of any different spellings of words compared to ours. Otherwise, there is very little in the way of flaws to talk about.
    • Forbidden affection - A rather... Odd story. This combination of humor and angst asks the question how our lovable waifu Ran Mouri would react when she subconsciously recognizes Conan as Shinichi Kudo while still believing Conan to be Conan. Thankfully not a lemon, we instead see a realistic example of how Ran would try to justify her feelings and disgust while hiding it from everybody due to the obvious shame of what she thinks she has and how her family and friends would react. You'll never guess where this story goes and I suggest you read it yourself.
    • Steal from a thief - Their current epic, this fic involves Aoko Nakamori taking matters in her own hands and try to stop the Phantom Thief herself. However what starts out as a usual premise quickly turns into a J.J. Abrams style mystery box as shit quickly gets real FAST. Kid Heists have never been this dangerous as questions that Magic Kaito leaves unanswered are explored and teased. Features great character interaction between both casts, natural character development that progresses them in a natural way, unforseen consequences, and Aoko who is usually on the sidelines, being the adorable intelligent badass we all know her to be. I can't even leave marked spoiliers, please check this out if you haven't already as it combines what makes Detective Conan and Magic Kaito so great.

     General Fics
Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't completely focused on romance.

  • Synopsis: “Okie-dokes.” Kuroba shakes himself, and then turns to wave at the waiting group of suspects and witnesses with a reassuring smile. They stare blankly at him.
    “They’re traumatized, Kaito-san.”
    “I know. That’s why I’m being nice.”
Shinichi grabs Kuroba’s jacket and starts yanking him toward the group, ignoring his annoyed muttering. In Kuroba’s defense, he’s very good at looking reassuring. It’s just a lot less effective when he’s standing next to the corpse.
    ——
When a magician seemingly murders an audience member in the middle of a show, no one but Conan can even begin to figure out all the tricks of this case. Naturally, Megure talks to Nakamori, who recommends the one and only magic expert that he knows: Kuroba Kaito.
  • Comments: This has to be by FAR my favorite depiction of "Edogawa Conan Meets Kuroba Kaito". Maybe because Conan's biting inner monologue is on point and perhaps because them immediately sussing out each other's secret ID is far too boring yet far too common, and that doesn't happen here for once? What happens instead is that they meet each other, and because they're perceptive, immediately go "what the HELL is WRONG with this guy" but they leave the alter egos out of it! Because you can notice there's plenty weird with these two without getting into all that. It's like - they know they're weird but not why. Because the cause of the weirdness is bonkers and Conan is too busy solving the murder mystery to justify digging into the Kaito mystery, and he KNOWS they're family friends so he's trying hard not to spook him away.

  • Synopsis: After everything that went down in Singapore, Kaitou KID was a little worse for wear. Shinichi does his best to provide first aid - because hey, this guy is his ticket back to Japan, okay? Fist of the Blue Sapphire conclusion viewed a little differently.
  • Comments: Fist of the Blue Sapphire aftermath with Conan abruptly realizing just how much KID got put through in that movie, I'm honestly surprised there aren't more fics like this because like. It Was Bad.

But the events of the day come rushing at him with a startling sense of clarity and realism and he sighs as the images flash by before his inner eye.

  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: A post-The Raven Chaser story. Because The Raven Chaser opened many doors…and Kaito worries. Animeverse/Movieverse.
  • Comments: This read is very, very intense. An amazing read for anyone who likes the plot segments dedicated to the Black Organization, and Shinichi/Conan's struggle against them. Has the extra credit of being extremely well researched both within canon-material as well as for outside real-world information, and of involving a large number of the adult cast alongside the more prevalently featured teenagers. WIP - and likely a dead fic. The author has written that the 14th chapter is finished, but there have been no updates either in the profile or the story, so most likely the author itself is out of contact.

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: In the face of a DNA analysis Kaito can't deny, he begins uncovering the rest of his family's secrets. Too bad he's not the only one looking.
  • Comments: Quite possibly one of the longest-running fics in existence, this fic explores the cliche of Kaito and Shinichi being twins, but with a refreshing twist to it. Also, finally completed after seven years, and a sequel is planned.

The Truth by BridgetWolfe

  • Recommended by: ilikecats
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Ran is tired of waiting for Shinichi and she tries to move on, but Shinichi ends up telling her the truth.

The Mystery of Conan Edogawa by funvince

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Ran Mouri is tired of the lies and evasions. She is determined to get to the truth behind her little house guest once and for all. But is she really prepared for what she may find?
  • Comments:
    • This is the best DC fic I have ever read. Instead of Conan telling Ran his identity, it's Ran who takes the initiative and investigates, like a true detective! It's well-written, as if this author knows exactly how it feels to be Ran and be so curious about your guest. I can't sum it up. It's just that good. —Love Is Weird
    • Concur. The author has an excellent grasp of the characters involved, and writes them extremely consistently with their on-screen portrayals. It resolves the Failure Is the Only Option problem referenced on the Conan Headscratchers page extremely well, and as far as I'm concerned ought to be canon. If Aoyama ever comes out with the reveal himself, I can only hope it is managed half so well. —Robotech Master

The Moriarty Gambit by Kat Morning

  • Recommended by: Mimizuku, Dame-Amaryllis
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: What do you do when you find what you're looking for and the finding paints an even larger target on your back? You find a way to do the impossible. And in the right company, impossible is just an illusion.
  • Comments: Two people from opposite sides join forces to take down a common enemy; a non-yaoi Shinichi-Kaito fic that handles their friendship, trials and relationship to the Black Organization rather well. Has mainly canon-ships touched within the narration, but they are not the main focus of the story.

Forget Me Nots by Luna-Kitsune-Blu

  • Recommended by: Kittastrophe

  • Synopsis: 'There has been a carwreck leaving the Doc in a coma and Conan with amnesia. Slowly bits and pieces come back to him but without the Doc he can't tell the difference between Conan's life and Jimmy's. Will his memory return before his cover's blown skyhigh?'
  • Comments: Unfortunately a deadfic, but it's still just so good. The confused characterization of Conan is really cute and very nicely done. Still worth a read, despite its unfinished status.

It's Raining Men, Hallelujah by Asuka Kureru

  • Recommended by: Animenutcase, lampyridae, whimsyful, Melody Rose Gold, Dame-Amaryllis, Puidwen
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Conan already has some kind of corpse magnet power, but when Heiji is in his orbit the corpses actively come to them. From above. Witness.
  • Comments: I'm sure we've all noticed that Conan Edogawa just attracts corpses. And many of us here at TV Tropes have noticed when you put Conan together with Heiji Hattori, the bodies literally start falling out of the sky. In this story, Conan and Heiji have noticed it, too. As they try (and fail) to find a way to hang out without dealing with dead bodies dropping in, the incidents slowly start escalating. A delightful one-shot that is definitely worth your time if you're interested in a good laugh.

Sense & Sensitivity by KosagiNoLegion

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: So many in the Detective Conan universe have secrets. What is Hattori Heiji's?
  • Comments: The first story in the excellent "Chounoryouku Hattori Heiji" series. Heiji-centric, although Conan features prominently in the first two stories. There are three, each well written, with mysteries(!) and everything. Some cannon couples, especially in the final story, but not to the point where romance becomes the focus. They are basically speculative fiction with Heiji's character- IE, given an odd power, what will Heiji do, and how will it change him. Well, I say that, but then take that thought exercise and turn it into a full multi-chapter story, or three, with interesting plot-lines and well written characterization. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the actual mysteries are good as well, something that is sometimes oddly hard to find in DC fan-fiction.

  • Synopsis: Alternatively, "Hakuba Saguru's Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Day". Saguru has a raging headache, a mountain of late homework waiting, and hours left before school lets out... and then Tokyo's littlest trouble magnet arrives at the door.
  • Comments: Great with the action, and allows Hakuba, Conan, and Haibara to interact with amazing action-filled plots while keeping them in-character.

  • Comments: While the author initially struggles with whether or not to include Gratuitous Japanese and never actually manages to handle it, the rest of the story is well done and feels like it could fit into the world of the series. Also the author handles the characters and their relationships well. Well worth a read.

Truth, Trust and Promises by Orla

  • Recommended by: Rabidrabbit
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: The truth is out, The Black Org closes in, Ran has to run and Shinichi is forced to act.

The Case of the Hidden Epidemic by Mirror and Image

  • Recommended by: Jillie_chan, lampyridae, Tsukireiko,
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Conan has stumbled across a mystery. This time the victims are much closer: the students of his elementary school. With Genta and Ayumi hospitalized, Conan will need to solve this case quickly. But then Ran gets hospitalized.
  • Notes: Has two sequels, The Magic Bullet Murder Case and The Case of the Haywire Heist.
  • Comments: This story kicks off a trilogy by the two writers and you'll want to read all three by the end of this story's first chapter. Great characterization and character interactions, and the research shows.
    • Can't be seconded enough. This troper would like to add that they almost wish all three of these stories were canon with the way interactions and revelations occur between the cast even in the midst of the main mystery cases. This is the kind of stuff much needed in series proper.

  • Comments: Bodyswap fics are a bit dime-a-dozen in the fic world but this one deserves a rec for taking things a step further than most by actively using the concept as a vehicle for inducing various cast interactions, and even touching on canon plot points in the process. And delightfully, it doesn't pull punches in detailing the crazy trials of trying to inhabit a different body either.

Known Associates by halfpenny_jones

  • Recommended by: MadhipsterAj, Rubber_Lotus
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: If Richard had to put his finger on it, it was more like he was a costly experiment Conan was expecting something from, and he wasn't delivering very promising results.
  • Comments: Imagine if the Mouri family's dysfunction such as Kogoro's alcoholism were portrayed VERY realistically. You get a sad but brilliant fic that makes you uncomfortable but also makes you want to continue reading. Deconstructionism at its finest folks.

Curiosity Made the Cat by sylph_feather

  • Recommended by: CureIcy
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Shinichi becomes a cat rather than a little boy when taking the poison. This changes... surprisingly little, actually.
  • Comments: A Crack Fic that manages to be both hilarious and sweet.

Nevermore by Hikari-chan

  • Recommended by: Taleweaver
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: "I think it raises more questions than it answers." "Such as what?" "Why send a card? Why does it tell you when the murders will take place? Why Edgar Allen Poe?"
  • Notes: In the same continuity as September Summers.
  • Comments: This a wonderful long fic, with a full-blown mystery in which the Detective Boys revive the club, as well as their continuing friendship, with each of them having a role to play in the solution. It ends in a truly nail-biting finish. If Conan never got back to being Shinichi, this could honestly be one of the movies. The authour also gets points for a mystery geared towards English readers, as well as showing Ai being Conan's partner in crime and romance in a way we haven't seen Ran capable of or willing to do (as yet).

Ran and Haibara's Dangerous Shopping Date by Murphrid

  • Recommended by: Taleweaver
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Growing suspicious of Conan, Ran decides to take Haibara shopping in order to ask her some questions about Conan's intelligence behaviour. But the trip turns tense when Haibara sees Gin's car nearby...
  • Comments: it's chilling to see Ran on the verge of the Organization without knowing it, and heartening to see her come through like a champ. Seeing her oblivious to the same behaviour in Ai that makes her suspicious of Conan makes you understand how Conan's gotten away with this for so long...

Assumptions by raytalities

  • Recommended by: Lyra_Dhani
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: The latest case had been difficult for reasons that had nothing to do with mystery and everything to do with the victim, and Mouri Kogoro has a lot to think about. It may mark a turning point in his life. This one will stick, if he has anything to say about it.

Approach of Absolute Zero by fluxfiction

  • Recommended by: Dame-Amaryllis
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: People shouldn't be older than their apparent age. This holds true until the FBI’s database is hacked and those wild rumours of Chris and Sharon Vineyard being the same person can be backed by evidence: identical fingerprints collected by Special Agent Jodie Starling. Then a certain person realises he might know another exception...

Double Dose by The_Faceless_Lich

  • Recommended by: R Lamius
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: With Kogoro's business having been in a slump for nearly half a year, Eri decides to float her husband a case, which he accepts. After all, nothing could go wrong by following a cheating husband around town for a day, right?
  • Comments: An interesting take on the "Ran gets shrunk by APTX-4869" by starting in the beginning of canon. The fic is a bit "Stations of the Canon" but there's enough new things peppered in (early character appearances, interactions, and plot points), along with new the dynamics that change things enough that it's still worth a read. As right now (25-AUG-2023) the fic just wrapped up the Moonlight Sonata case.

I'm Already There by Becky Tailweaver

  • Recommended by: Maki P, Tsukireiko,
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: On the night before Ran's 22nd birthday, Shinichi gives her a call. He's still Conan, only now there's something else...
  • Pairing: Shinichi/Ran
  • Comments: Oh my God! This story is so, so sad! It makes me wanna cry, and I never cry! It's so marvelously written, you can really feel the pain; and the situation Shinichi is in has to be worst possible. There's 2 sequels (1 incomplete unfortunately), I recommend them to heal the heartache you get after finish reading this. Also I recomend to read it while listening to Lonestar's I'm Already There, nothing will stop the tears.

Their Happily Ever After by Aishuu

  • Recommended by: Rubber_Lotus.
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: The Syndicate is gone - but so are all hopes of an antidote. With no other options, "Conan Edogawa" resigns himself to taking The Slow Path into adulthood, Ran ever unswerving by his side.
  • Pairing: Shinichi/Ran. Ai x Shiratori on the side.
  • Comments: One of the fandom's oldest "no antidote" stories, and still one of the best at pulling heartstrings.

Three Thieves by Ysabet & Rednightengale

  • Recommended by: Selina Catz
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: Adversaries can become acquaintances and acquaintances can become friends; it takes time and it's difficult, but anything is possible- especially for Kudo Shinichi and the Kaitou Kid.
  • Pairing: Ran/Shinichi/Kaito
  • Notes: Archived on the Wayback Machine here.
    • It is also available for free download here.
  • Comments: With 839,456 words (and counting: it's a WIP) Three Thieves is an epic story and while the romance makes up too much of the story for it to be classified as gen, Three Thieves also has some wonderfully complex cases and the writers put a lot of effort in ensuring that none of the characters are in anyway flat.
    • It's been deleted by the author due to them being unable to continue it because it was co-written by a friend of theirs, who abandoned the story.

Mayonaka by Dragoon-sama & White Mage Koorii

  • Recommended by: kyrilu, Ethereal Zephyr
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: Midnight; the hour of the dead. Time ticks ever backwards. You and I, we're trapped together in this endless dance, where the sky is awash in red. There's nothing left but the light of hope, so let's scrape the bottom together.
  • Pairing: Kaito/Shinichi
  • Comments: A beautiful fic. Still in progress, hasn't received updates in quite a while.

Fish By Kaitou Ann

  • Recommended by: oceanlover4evr, Y.S. Jennis
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: An alternate take on Icka's Mad Dogs and Englishmen with less slapstick, more angst, and mild hottness. Like Pepperjack Cheese.
  • Pairing: Very mild, almost imperceptible Hakuba/Kaito
  • Comments: Some humor, mixed well with mild angst. Ligh-heartedly funny yet serious at the same time.

  • Synopsis: There are people who want to live forever, and then there is Shinichi, who just wants to live a little longer than this.
  • Pairing: Shinichi/Kaito
  • Comments: Incredibly well written, in character and with high doses of mystery and action worthy of the canon. I can't recommend this enough. A must read.

Partners by mayonaka-no-sasayaki

  • Recommended by: Melody Rose Gold
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: Kudou Shinichi and Miyano Shiho. Edogawa Conan and Haibara Ai. Holmes and Adler. They are powerful by their own, unmatched when together. This is their story.
  • Pairing: Shinichi/Shiho
  • Comments: So far a well written fic that focuses more on Shinichi and Shiho's entertaining and sweet interactions with one another rather than plot.

Moonlight Magician by Uxie22

  • Recommended by: Rubber_Lotus
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Shinichi is finally dating his dream girl. The catch? She’s dating her dream girl, too.
  • Pairing: Shinichi/Ran/Sera
  • Comments: Almost 20,000 words of the One True Threesome nobody saw coming, running through about five different genres in one go. Marred only by the fact that it's not 20,000 words longer.

The Changes in Their Eyes by TheReluctantSeeker

  • Recommended by: Taleweaver
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: After 2 long years, Kudo Shinichi has finally returned to Beika, and most important to Ran, into her awaiting arms. Over the 6 months since his return, Ran notices the changes her boyfriend has gone through since his time away. The biggest change she sees? His eyes.
  • Pairing: Ran/Shinichi, slight Shiho/Shinichi
  • Comments: one of the few fics I've come across exploring the idea that his time as Conan has changed Shinichi so much that he and Ran can no longer make it work as a couple. Notable for it's insightful and respectful portrayal of a perceptive and mature Ran, able to both make the hard decisions and keep her special bond with Shinichi regardless, even if it necessarily needs to change.

An Affair in Nagano by Murphrid

  • Recommended by: Taleweaver
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Five years after the fall of the Organization, Shiho Miyano calls Shinichi Kudo to Nagano to help search for a missing colleague, but bringing the detective back into her life threatens to expose the secret tragedy of her advisor, the cursed nature of Shiho's work, and the feelings she concealed from Shinichi all those years ago.
  • Pairing: Shiho/Shinichi
  • Comments: Over 28 chapters, you see a complex mystery, an intriguing portrayal of the even more complex Shiho Miyano, and an interesting look at Shinichi Kudo: what drew Shiho and Ran to him in the first place, why they both walked away from him, and why Shiho, in the end, decides he's worth the risk of her heart.

September Summers by Hikari-chan

  • Recommended by: Taleweaver
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Sometimes, one decision can change your whole outlook on life. Post the takedown of the Organisation, Conan learns to grow up a second time... and discovers what really matters in life.
  • Pairing: Conan/Ai
  • Comments: In the general section because it mainly focuses on how life differs for Conan growing up, in contrast to Shinichi growing up. One of the few fics out there that deals with the Detective Boys growing up and how they keep their friendship going once they're more than a bunch of kids in search of mysteries to solve. Also shows that Ran's capable of a happy ending even without Shinichi coming back.

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When the improbable becomes the impossible, House and team find themselves struggling to treat a mysterious boy with an equally baffling ailment. Of course we all know how appearances can be deceiving...
  • Comments: A truly fantastic read that keeps everyone involved in character, and sounds very plausible, as far as Medical Jargon goes.

The Case of the World's Greatest Detectives by Mithen

  • Recommended by: Rubber_Lotus
  • Crossover with: Batman
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: The Conan gang head over to Gotham for a criminology convention. Kaitou Kid is involved. Hijinks ensue.
  • Comments: Light, fluffy, fun, and sadly shorter than it ought to be. Bar none, the greatest DC/Batman crossover fic on the net... which isn't really saying much. Watching Conan's interactions and inner thoughts is worth the price of admission alone.

The Dark Knight, and the Silver Bullet by Queen Sonoko, Thornrose 270

  • Crossover with: Death Note
  • Status: Part 1 is Complete, Part 2 is Dead (last updated August 2018)

Let's Go Get Lost by Rikkamaru

  • Recommended by: Dame-Amaryllis
  • Crossover with: Lupin III
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Post-Canon. Shinichi always knew he’d leave when no one needed him anymore. He just hadn’t expected anyone to chase after him.
  • Pairing: Shinichi/Kaito
  • Comments: The story and romance are, in and of themselves, pretty well-developed, but a preemptive warning - it is not kind to any of Shinichi's friends/allies not named Kaito. It never really gets near Betrayal Fic levels, but you won't be finding Amicable Exes here.

  • Comments: Step into a Tokyo where everything's gone topsy turvy - where Witches roam the streets and every memory seems a lie - and hope, with all your heart, that your heroes remember who they're supposed to be and find a way back there. Not that it'll do all of them good...

The Case of the Midnight Channel by miakakiri

  • Recommended by: CureIcy
  • Crossover with: Persona 4
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: When a strange letter summons the Mouri family to Inaba, Ran is expecting a case. She's not expecting it to involve the TV, though. Meanwhile, if Naoto investigated everyone who came to visit Inaba, she'd have little time for real cases. When Yukiko reports that the Midnight Channel is back, however, she starts to wonder if the visitors are connected. Especially when the image clears, unveiling yet another mystery.
  • Pairings: Mouri Ran/Shinichi Kudou, Narukami Yu/Shirogane Naoto
  • Comments: A masterful crossover that follows the cast of Persona 4 after the events of canon as they meet the Detective Conan cast. Keeps everyone in character and uses the Midnight channel as a device to explore each character’s motives and inspire growth.

Or: Shinichi somehow ends up staying with Sherlock Holmes while solving mysteries, like how he got there in the first place, all while trying to keep his identity secret.
  • Comments: Seeing Shinichi try to keep secrets from a fellow master of deduction is quite intriguing, and the best part is seeing how all of their personalities interact. Sherlock in particular has a surprising amount of depth.
