Team SSSN

    Sun Wukong

Sun Wukong

A monkey Faunus who is The Leader of Team SSSN.

Tropes:

  • Decomposite Character: Revon is the one to infiltrate the White Fang rally with Blake, not Sun. He is also not involved when Team RWBY takes down Roman's mech. The "Rise of The Tiger" Arc also shows he didn’t follow Blake to Menagerie.
  • Nice Guy: Though he was introduced by snatching some fruit, Sun is a warm-hearted guy who wanted to cheer Blake (who he just met) up because he hates to see people upset.
  • Pass the Popcorn: He looks forward to Winter beating up Qrow for tossing a helmet at Weiss.
  • Parental Abandonment: He didn't have his parents when he was young, so Starr decided to take care of him when he was growing up.
  • Sixth Ranger: He joins the gang in fighting off Roman and his crew.

    Scarlet David

Scarlet David

A gay member of Team SSSN

Tropes:

    Sage Ayana

Sage Ayana

The Big Guy for Team SSSN.

Tropes:

  • The Big Guy: He is regarded as this among Team SSSN. Though not enough to carry Coco's weapon, though.
  • Nice Guy: Agrees to have a double date with Coco and Velvet before SSSN's match with CFVY, and offered words of encouragement when Neptune was after to go into the water.
  • Official Couple: With Scarlet.
  • Straight Gay: His design is very masculine, but the only indication that he is gay is that he's with Scarlet.

    Neptune Vasilias

Neptune Vasilias

A womanizing member of Team SSSN.

Tropes:

Shade Academy Faculty

    Professor Theodore

Professor Theodore

Headmaster of Shade Academy.

Tropes:

  • Nice Guy: Trying to fix Vacuo’s harsh culture by teaching kindness at Shade.

    Xanthe Rumpole

Professor Xanthe Rumpole

A professor at Shade Academy

Tropes:

  • Dark and Troubled Past: After Glynda loses her wife, she tells her she knows what it’s like and that Glynda could always talk to her about it. Implying she lost a spouse or partner in her past.
  • The Stoic: Comes off as a less strict Glynda.

Citizens

    Ink Spot

Isaac Gerald "Ink" Spot

Fox's boyfriend.

Tropes:

    Colt Spot

Colt Spot

Ink's father and Miranda's husband.

Tropes:

  • Breeding Slave: Miranda used him as one to produce more sons for her to rape.
  • Good Parents: Tried his best to protect Ink from Miranda, and cares for his other sons, as the first thing he does upon being freed is tell the others to rescue them.
  • Henpecked Husband: To an extreme and horrifying degree. Miranda keeps him chained up and naked to rape him and produce more sons for her to rape. He is powerless to do anything about it.
  • It's All My Fault: He feels that he could have done more to protect Ink from his mother and deeply regrets the fact that he didn't.

    Gillian Asturias

Gillian Asturias

Jax's twin sister and a huntress.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Heroism: She worked with the Crown in Before the Dawn. While she still protects her brother, she doesn't take part in their activities and is horrified by the human trafficking, which motivates her to get him to disband the Crown.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul:
    • She was Carmine's friend in Before the Dawn. They are married in this story.
    • She worked with Jax and was deeply devoted to him. This is not the case in this story.
  • All-Loving Hero: Deconstructed. Gillian’s a kind woman to every good person she meets, but her love and desire to protect her monstrous brother caused her to allow a lot of atrocities to be committed on her watch.
  • Anti-Villain: Gillian allowed her brother to pump deadly drugs and sell weapons to terrorists for years, but it’s only because she loved him and wanted to protect him.
  • Bad Liar: Coco is immediately suspicious of her when she tries to hide the fact that she's protecting her brother.
  • Everyone Has Standards: What finally caused her to turn on her brother was learning he was part of a three-way human trafficking network with Carter Pillar and Jacques Schnee.
  • Fatal Flaw: Her unrelenting devotion to her brother's safety. She allowed him to run amuck for decades without any checks to the point that he only became more dangerous. She never wanted to reveal his involvement in the Crown for fear of the authorities killing him. Even after attempting to murder her after offering a chance at redemption, she was unable to kill him after defeating him, leading to her death.
  • Happily Married: With Carmine until she was murdered.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When she finally realizes how monstrous her brother is, she realizes just how much torment she allowed to happen to the people of Vacuo and Remnant with his continued freedom.
  • Nice Girl: To a fault. Gillian is very kind and compassionate to many people, but unfortunately, that includes evil ones like her brother who she let hurt and kill a lot of people for the sake of keeping him safe. This is what ends up getting her killed since she is unable to kill him when she has him as good as dead.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: She let her monstrous brother run free, growing power and support while hurting and killing hundreds of innocent people. When she finally decided to put a stop to it, it ended with Ink raped and tortured, her wife and friend dead, hundreds of drug addicts murdered, and herself being shot and barely surviving uninjured.
  • Pocket Protector: Carmine's gift to her was what managed to keep her alive when Jax shot her.
  • Together in Death: Her final words before dying were calling out to Carmine, showing that they will be together again.

    Carmine Esclados

Carmine Esclados

A Vacuo huntress and Gillian's wife.

Tropes:

    Bertilak Celadon

Bertilak Celadon

A Vacuo huntsman who works with Carmine and Gillian.

Tropes:

    Starr Sanzang

Starr Sanzang

Sun's older cousin and guardian growing up.

Tropes:

  • Dark and Troubled Past: Was raised by neglectful drug addicts and her wife died of a poison heroin overdose a few months prior to her appearance in the series.
  • The Lost Lenore: Her wife, Carol, died.
  • Nice Girl: She’s a very upbeat and friendly person, and a good mother figure for Sun.
  • Parental Substitute: She was this for Sun when he still lived in Vacuo.
  • Stepford Smiler: She's an upbeat and energetic person, but she shows she's still broken up about her wife's death.

The Crown

    Jax Asturias

Jax Asturias

The leader of the Crown and Gillian's sadistic twin brother.

Tropes:

  • Arc Villain: Of the "CFVY" and "Vacuo" Arcs.
  • Ax-Crazy: Used to make animals tear each other apart as a child, and his tendency to murder people by the hundreds proves this behavior has not changed.
  • Bad Boss: Executed subordinates who questioned him and abandoned Rena to die.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: Gillian reveals that he used his Semblance to mind-control animals into killing each other.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Despite how dangerous he is and the massive influence he has, he is nowhere near as much of a threat without Gillian constantly protecting him and not giving him away sooner. It is implied that he never would have gotten as far as he did without her covering for him, and he is taken down in short order once she takes an active effort to stop him.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: Despite how horrible he is, Gillian still cared about him. Even when she felt he crossed the line with human trafficking, she still gave him a chance to disband the Crown and come back to her before she would have exposed his crimes to the press since she knew he would have been killed for his crimes. Even after all that happened, she still can't kill him when she has him at the end of a gun, leading to her death.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Yatsuhashi wiped his memories, turning him into a catatonic wreck.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Especially when interacting with Gillian. He actually seems somewhat happy to see her sometimes, but then it drips away into smug glee as he rubs salt in her wounds.
  • For the Evulz: He believes a King can do what he wishes to his subjects, like forcing animals to tear each other apart as a child.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Jax was a sickly child who was viciously bullied due to Vacuo’s culture, often having to be defended by his sister. However, it doesn’t excuse how much of a childish, monstrous bastard he has become. Even Gillian, who shows sympathy for him, points out how far he has gone.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: While Void was the one buying the White Fang’s weapons, The Crown was who he bought them from. He’s also this to the "Yellow" Arc, as he’s the first step in the three-way human trafficking process between himself, Carter, and Jacques.
  • Hate Sink: Jax shows himself to be a selfish, narcissistic Psychopathic Manchild who doesn't care who he hurts. He proudly hurts others all to prop up his own ego.
  • Kick the Dog: Shows off Carmine’s bloody wedding ring after having her and Bertilak killed, and shoots Gillian, attempting to murder his own sister.
  • Master of Delusion: He is so up his own ass about being from a royal bloodline that he refuses to believe anything otherwise, even when Gillian directly calls out that their lineage isn't as royal as he was led to believe.
  • Mood-Swinger: It doesn't take much for his mood to move from Faux Affably Evil to explosive rage.
  • Narcissist: His beliefs in his regal bloodline seem to have gone straight to his head. He is obsessed with having power over others since he thinks he's the only one who deserves it. He also takes several opportunities to compliment himself whenever his plans are going well and thinks that no one could stop him.
  • Non-Action Big Bad: He has a few kills to his name, but he's more of a planner than a man of action.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: He admits that pragmatism is a must when his sister puts CFVY on his trail. He typically has contingency plans for when things go wrong and avoids trying to get his own hands dirty.
  • Properly Paranoid: He brags about making the right decision in sending out people to keep tabs since it revealed that people were looking for him.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: He's very immature and prone to throwing tantrums. He calls his sister a tattletale when he realizes she plans to rat him out and blows a raspberry during his escape.
  • Redemption Rejection: Gillian gives him a chance to disband the Crown in exchange for not leaking his crimes to the press. He knew what she was doing and decided to kill Carmine and Bertilak while grabbing their copy of the files they had on him, and shoots Gillian fully intending to kill her. The second time, Gillian refuses to kill him and gives him the opportunity to join her once again. He repays her mercy by killing her for real this time.
  • Smug Snake: Is a delusional narcissist who believes he can do anything, completely ignoring Gillian pointing out how Vacuo doesn’t have the technology available to take on Atlas in the war, ensuring even if his plans had succeeded, he still would’ve lost.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Shows no love towards his sister despite the fact she used to defend him from bullies when they were children.
  • Villain Has a Point: Calls out Gillian when she says his belief their bloodline is the rightful ruler of Vacuo is delusional by pointing out the fact that if she had stopped him earlier instead of letting him continue committing his crimes, then she wouldn’t have fed the delusion as his perceived untouchable nature only fed said delusion.
  • War for Fun and Profit: Attempted to cause a war between Atlas and Vacuo so he could overthrow Vacuo’s council and take on the rest of the world.

    Rena Alistair

Rena Alistair

Fox's abusive mother and member of the Crown.

Tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: She beat Fox and treated him poorly due to the Social Darwinist mindset of Vacuo. She is also the reason he is blind.
  • Dirty Coward: For all her talk of strength, when left at the mercy of the son she abused for years, all she can do is beg.
  • Kick the Dog: When Carmine begs her to tell Gillian that she loves her, Rena coldly says "no" before shooting her head off.
  • The Social Darwinist: She blinded her son to make him stronger so he wouldn't be able to rely on one of his senses. All of the abuse was done to make him stronger in her eyes.
  • Villains Want Mercy: When Fox has her at her mercy, she begs him to let her live since she is his mother.
  • Would Hurt a Child: She blinded her son just to toughen him up.

    Miranda Spot

Miranda Spot

Ink's abusive mother and a member of the Crown.

Tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: Sexually abused her own son since he was five. She did the same to the other sons she had when Ink left.
  • Ax-Crazy: She seems exceptionally sadistic and leaves nothing but bodies in her wake when let loose.
  • Blaming the Victim: She claims that Ink was seducing her and asking for her to have sex with him. An excuse she has used ever since he was five.
  • Co-Dragons: To Jax with Rena. With the latter’s death, Miranda is left Jax’s sole dragon.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: One that was entirely deserved considering how horrible she was. Fox cuts her hand off and while screaming in horror, Velvet slashes her stomach with a copy of Yatsuhashi's weapon, Fulcrum, and starts grinding her insides. After begging for mercy, Ink shoots her jaw off. The coup de grace is Coco panicking and using Gianduja (still in its purse form) to smash her head in.
  • Dirty Coward: She abandons Rena for dead when Coco and Fox interrupt their attempt to kill Gillian.
  • Dissonant Serenity: She seems no more than mildly annoyed when they end up being exposed and has her mansion attacked.
  • Domestic Abuse: She also sexually abused her husband, only using him as a sperm donor to have more children for her to rape. It’s also revealed she physically beat him up whenever he tried to defend Ink from her.
  • The Dragon: To Jax. She’s apparently very wealthy and funds the Crown, and she and Rena answer directly to him. After Rena is killed, she serves as his sole right hand.
  • For the Evulz: Colt tells Ink that Miranda had no real reason for doing what she did, and only was loyal to The Crown because it allowed her to live out her sick fantasies.
  • Hate Sink: Miranda goes above and beyond to be the most personally horrible person imaginable. It's bad enough that she's a mass murderer that assists a genocidal delusional man-child, but she is also a shameless child molester who rapes her own children. The reveal that she gave birth to seven more sons to sexually abuse after Ink left cements her thoroughly detestable nature.
  • Kick the Dog: Pretty much spends all her screentime doing this to make her as loathsome as possible. She beat and raped her son for information and later to leave a message, massacred junkies, and assisted in the murder of Gillian’s wife, Carmine.
  • More Despicable Minion: Despite Jax already being fairly monstrous himself, Miranda is somehow even viler, being a disgusting, incestuous serial rapist and mass murderer.
  • No Honor Among Thieves: Despite seeming to be close with Rena with their shared connection of disdain for their sons' relationship, she doesn't hesitate to leave her for dead as she and Jax make their escape.
  • Parental Incest: She raped her son ever since he was five and seems to genuinely be attracted to him. This is proved after revealing that she had several sons after Ink left so she would be able to satisfy her lust.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: She is rather disapproving of her son's homosexuality.
  • Replacement Goldfish: A very disturbing example. After Ink left, she raped her husband to produce seven sons she kept as sex slaves to replace him.
  • Sadist: Colt outright admits that she only liked to see people in pain. The Crown gave her more opportunity to exercise this.
  • Serial Rapist: In addition to Ink, Miranda sexually abused Colt and used him to have even more children for her to abuse. It is implied that she would do so to others when she starts hitting on Sage.
  • Sexy Coat Flashing: She tries to use this on Sage while only wearing a robe, to no effect.
  • The Sociopath: She thrives on hurting people and ruining lives. She only cares about herself and her desires. Her son is seen as nothing more than a sex toy and she'll turn her back on her supposed friend Rena when making an escape with Jax. She doesn't genuinely believe in The Social Darwinist mindset of Vacuo and is loyal to the Crown to exercise her sadistic tendencies.
  • Villainous Friendship: Subverted with Rena. The two seem to be close to such an extent she assisted Rena in blinding Fox and the two spend most of the "CFVY" arc together, but she shows no hesitation in leaving her for dead.
  • Voice Changeling: Her Semblance is mimicry.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Sexually abused her own son since he was five and assisted Rena in blinding Fox. She also continues to have children for her to rape after Ink left.
