Miami P.D.

     Mike Lowrey

Detective Sergeant Michael Eugene "Mike" Lowrey

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mikelowrey.jpg

Portrayed by: Will Smith

Dubbed by: Greg Germain (European French)

A wealthy ladies' man and a Miami PD detective.

  • The Ace: He's the most skilled cop on the force, and a master of many skills that makes it possible to survive the insane gun fights he and Marcus get into.
  • Cowboy Cop: His preferred method of handling criminals. This gets him in trouble several times, and For Life deconstructs his tendency to act first before asking, which gets several key criminals that could give them leads he needs alive end up dead.
  • The Casanova: He's a ladies man, and he banged his therapist in II.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite his crass and promiscuous personality, he still cares about people, especially his friends. For Life starts the process to lose the "jerk" part and connect with his son Armando.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Marcus. They won't stop being vitriolic to each other, but they care for each other as well.

     Marcus Burnett

Detective Sergeant Marcus Miles Burnett

Portrayed by: Martin Lawrence

Dubbed by: Thierry Desroses (European French, 1995), Lucien Jean-Baptiste (European French, 2003, 2020)

A hard-headed Miami PD detective and family man.

     Captain Conrad Howard

Portrayed by: Joe Pantoliano

  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: In "For Life", Captain Howard gets shot in the neck by Armando and bleeds out onto the street. The next scene features his funeral.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While he often has little patience for Mike and Marcus's antics, he's genuinely concerned when he learns Marcus accidentally ingested ecstasy and calls Poison Control in the second film.
  • Posthumous Character: Despite his death in For Life, he leaves a serious impact on the events of Ride or Die, as it reveals that prior to his assassination, he left a video for Mike and Marcus revealing that he had been framed for making dealings with a drug cartel, and must now be proven innocent.

     Detectives Ruiz and Sanchez

Portrayed by: Nestor Serrano and Julio Oscar Menchosa

Two Hispanic detectives who assist Mike and Marcus during the final shootout.

  • Those Two Guys: They are always seen together, often exchanging barbs with Mike and Marcus.

     Captain Alison Sinclair

Portrayed by: Marg Helgenberger

Villains

     Fouchet

Portrayed by: Tchéky Karyo

A merciless French drug lord, he masterminds the heist of $100 million worth of heroin from the Miami PD Headquarters. When Julie Mott witnesses a murder he commits, he begins trying to kill her as well.

  • Ax-Crazy: He's a foul-tempered sociopath who kills people for spurious reasons. At one point, he murders the staff of his heroin lab just for holding up his timetable.
  • Big Bad: Fouchet is the major force opposing Mike and Marcus throughout the film. He steals the heroin that they confiscated, and repeatedly tries to kill them when they try to protect Julie from him.
  • Dark Is Evil: Wears a black suit at all times.
  • French Jerk: He's very French, and very evil.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Spends the entire movie in a barely concealed rage and will kill anyone at the slightest provocation.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: Crooked cop Eddie Dominguez betrays him and makes off with some of the stolen heroin, so Fouchet kills him. The prostitute Maxine becomes a potential witness to this, so Fouchet kills her. Fouchet's chemistry team cause delays to his schedule, so he massacres them all. Julie Mott witnesses Maxine's murder, so Fouchet spends the entire movie trying to kill her and anyone who protects her. Noticing a pattern yet?
  • The Sociopath: A ruthless killer with no empathy for anyone.
  • Trigger-Happy: Fouchet seems to have only two settings: angry, and murderously angry. And when he's on the latter, he just has to shoot someone, no matter how disproportionate it is. The crime that puts the protagonists on the path to find him is murdering Eddie and the prostitute he was with, for one brick of heroin, then he kills his chemists because they "fucked with his timetable", even if cutting heroine is an incredibly (explosively) delicate business and it's obvious they were rushing things as much as they could, then he shoots the buyer on the spot the moment he sees the cops. He even pulls a gun on Marcus after the man talks his partner down from killing him. This bites him in the ass when Mike notices the glint of his pistol on Marcus' temple which leads to Mike shooting him, wasting his Last-Second Chance.

     Casper

Portrayed by: Frank John Hughes

Fouchet's right-hand man.

  • The Dragon: Fouchet's second-in-command.
  • Jerkass: Makes misogynistic remarks about Max, and mocks Ferguson about his weight. Even upon Fouchet kidnapping Julie, Casper openly admits that he wants to lick her ears for fun, much to her disgust.
  • Porn Stache: To make it clear he's a sleazebag.
  • Shoot the Fuel Tank: How Marcus kills him.

     Ferguson

Portrayed by: Vic Manni

Fouchet's main enforcer.

  • Fat Bastard: He's overweight and a murderous drug dealer.
  • High-Voltage Death: Mike shoots him in the chest, sending him staggering him backwards into a fusebox, which fatally electrocutes him.
  • Rasputinian Death: He gets shot in the chest by Lowrey with a shotgun, falls backwards into a high voltage transformer which electrocutes him, and the resulting sparks ignite the jet fuel at his feet, setting him on fire.

Other Characters

     Theresa Burnett

Portrayed by: Theresa Randle

Detective Marcus Burnett's wife and mother of his two children.

  • Happily Married: Seemingly for her and her husband despite the light bickering they engage in during one of her scenes.

     Maxine "Max" Logan

A prostitute and friend of Mike Lowery and Julie Mott, she is hired by Eddie Dominguez to entertain him after the heist. When Fouchet comes to kill Eddie, he also murders Max, considering her a potential witness. When Julie Mott witnesses Max's murder, Fouchet begins trying to kill her as well.

  • She Knows Too Much: Fouchet kills her to eliminate a potential witness to Eddie's murder.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: She is in one or two scenes before Fouchet murders her. Julie's witnessing the murder is what drives the plot of the film.

    Julie Mott

Portrayed by: Téa Leoni

A friend of Max and the only witness to her murder. When she becomes the killer's next target, Julie goes to the police, asking for Mike Lowery's protection.

  • Deadpan Snarker: Makes several sarcastic jibes at Mike and Marcus' expense.
  • She Knows Too Much: Much like Max before her, Fouchet wants her dead because she witnessed a murder he committed.

First appeared in Bad Boys II

    Johnny Tapia

Hector Juan Carlos "Johnny" Tapia

Played By: Jordi Mollá

  • Ax-Crazy: His idea of conducting a business deal is to have one member of the negotiating party chopped up in his mother's kitchen and the pieces stuffed into a tortilla bin. It's his idea of "leverage". If that does not work, he'll gun for their families.
  • Big Bad: The main antagonist of the film.
  • Boom, Headshot!: How Tapia is ultimately taken out, courtesy of Marcus.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Immediately after being killed via Boom, Headshot! from Marcus, Tapia's limp body falls onto several landmines, causing them to explode and turn his upper body into Ludicrous Gibs.

    Syd Burnett

DEA Special Agent Sydney "Syd" Burnett

Played By: Gabrielle Union

  • Big Damn Kiss: She and Mike share one in the middle of a minefield at the end of the movie, much to Marcus' annoyance.
Marcus: "Come on! Y'all gotta do that around the landmines?!"
  • Guile Hero: While she and Marcus are being held at gunpoint by one of Tapia's lieutenant in the middle of a minefield, Syd pretends to surrender, and then tosses her empty gun at a live mine to take out the gunman.
  • Offscreen Breakup: In Bad Boys for Life, it is briefly mentioned that she and Mike had broken up between the second and third films, much to Marcus' annoyance.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Syd is introduced in Bad Boys II as Marcus' little sister and Mike's Love Interest, even though she is never seen or mentioned in the first film.

     Alexei

Alexei

Played By: Peter Stormare

     Blondie Dread

Blondie Dread

Played By: Kiko Ellsworth

A Haitian Zoepounder gang leader.

First appeared in Bad Boys for Life

Advanced Miami Metro Operations (AMMO)

    In General
  • Badass Adorable: As a whole, they are very good-looking and are police officers, so it's a given.
    • Kelly is able to go bullet-for-bullet with Mike and takes down her fair share of mooks, and even when shot in the leg she keeps firing back. She's also played by Vanessa Hudgens, who brings her usual adorable charm.
    • Dorn is an interesting case, since he's built like a linebacker and doesn't look like what you'd call adorable, but his sheer friendliness and reluctance to use violence makes him come off as quite cute. He's also still built like a line-backer and proves to be a One-Man Army when he actually engages.
  • Fair Cop: The team are ludicrously attractive cops, lampshaded by Marcus and Mike who describe them as a "High School Musical" boyband.

    Officer Rita Secada

Portrayed by: Paola Nunes

  • Ms. Fanservice: She's a very attractive cop played by Paola Nunez and her sexy yellow dress in the nightclub was pure Male Gaze for Mike.

    Kelly

Portrayed by: Vanessa Hudgens

  • Ms. Fanservice: She wears a revealing undercover outfit in Zway-Lo's birthday party.

    Dorn

Portrayed by: Alexander Ludwig

  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: He used to be a bouncer, until he intervened to stop a man harassing a woman, and killed the man with a single punch. Ever since then he's avoided confrontation of any kind and goes out of his way to be polite and deferential to everyone.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's basically a nerd built like a linebacker... because he used to be a bouncer that quit after he killed a guy harassing a woman.
  • It Gets Easier: Averted.
Mike: Big Man, I'm gonna need you to hurt some people! I'll pay for the therapy!
    Dorn: I'm gonna need it!
  • One-Man Army: Once he regains the willingness to kill, he easily stomps through several Cartel gunmen in the Hildago Palace.

    Rafe

Portrayed by: Charles Melton

The Aretas

    In General

  • Big Bad: Isabel Aretas, the other ex-girlfriend of Mike, with her son and Mike's biological son Armando serving as The Dragon.

    Isabel

Portrayed by: Kate del Castillo

  • Ax-Crazy: If you thought Fouchet and Johnny Tapia were ax-crazy, Isabel wields an ax in each hand as well as holding one in her teeth. She may very well be the most psychotic of the villains Mike and Marcus have faced.
  • Disney Villain Death: Isabel dies this way after being shot several times by Rita, save that we clearly see her hit the burning helicopter after her fall.
  • Knight of Cerebus: She's arguably the reason behind the Darker and Edgier tone of Bad Boys For Life, because she was the ex-girlfriend of Mike and wants him dead for abandoning her, and she's also responsible for killing Captain Howard.
  • Love Makes You Evil: She wants revenge on everyone who killed her husband and jailed her, but especially on Mike for betraying and abandoning her.
  • Mama Bear: Inverted. She does not appear to care what happens to Armando at all, berating him for disobeying her orders. We only find out she truly loves him when we see her face as Armando takes a bullet she meant for Mike.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She reels back in horror after accidentally shooting Armando when she was going for Mike - her hesitation leaves her open long enough to get shot.
  • Psycho Ex-Girlfriend: When Mike was undercover, he used to date her behind her husband's back. With her husband dead and having to raise Armando on her own with the real father not in the picture, she decides to have her son kill his real father.
  • Psycho Knife Nut: Her trademark way of maiming or murdering is to use whatever sharp object is in her vicinity and stab and slice whoever is in her way.

    Armando

Portrayed by: Jacob Scipio

  • Antagonistic Offspring: At first. Mike finding out he is his son when he says "Hasta el Fuego" clues him in. It's no longer the case when Armando finds out Mike is his father that spurns his Heel–Face Turn.
  • Boxed Crook: Mike intends to have him work for him as a way for the latter to be The Atoner for his crimes against his father.
  • Breaking Out the Boss: The plot of the movie kicks off with him breaking Isabel out of prison.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He doesn't kill innocent people during his hits.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He immediately turns on his mother after learning Mike is his father, going as far as to take a bullet for him and help save Marcus.
  • Hitman with a Heart: After he successfully kills Captain Howard, he outright refuses to take a kill-shot on an innocent woman. It makes it clear that he's very trigger-happy, but it's only because he truly believes the people he's killing deserve it.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Mike points out that he's reckless and Hot-Blooded like he is.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He is horrified that he was manipulated by Isabel’s lies and almost killed Mike, his blood father. Even after he’s sent to prison, he continues to show genuine remorse for his misdeeds.
  • One-Man Army: He goes through targets and other opposition like they're not even there.
  • Thicker Than Water: He takes a bullet for Mike, and then helps to save his partner, Marcus, after finding out that Mike is his father.
