Bell is a young Farm Boy who grew up in the mountains with only his grandpa for company. After Kojiro stumbles onto their farm, Bell is inspired to head to Orario and become an adventurer in search of his fabled Rescue Romance, but not before trotting the globe to get some experience before he does.

  • Accidental Pervert: Bell falls asleep on the couch after reading through one of Hans' books when the Astraea Familia, weary from their latest expedition, decides to strip down after arriving home. Kaguya, too tired to notice him there, throws her clothes on top of him, and he ends up listening to them as they take their clothes off.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Aside from months of practice meditating with Kojiro prior, Bell manages to utilize magic on his first try despite being a complete novice at it. Not only that, but his new spell, Dragon Fang, requires no chant despite having a significant effect that will only grow stronger with falna. He's unaware of how momentous this is until Brunhilde and Hrist explain it to him.
  • Adaptational Skill: In this story, his training under Kojiro has made him a promising young swordsman rather than a knife-wielding specialist.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Rather than getting Firebolt from a grimoire, Bell creates his own magic, Dragon Fang, during his stay in Altena.
  • Albinos Are Freaks: Inverted. Bell's white hair and red eyes get him compared to bunny rabbits, resulting in girls calling him cute and adding to his striking looks.
  • Always Save the Girl: Bell set out on his adventures in hopes of a Rescue Romance. So when Haruhime gets in trouble, he demands Kojiro help him save her even though the matter has nothing to do with them. He later stares down a guard for talking down to Nyx, even though it was completely pointless.
  • Amazon Chaser: Seeing the Radiance in action gives Bell his very first crush and a preference for strong, confident women. He soon finds himself crushing on Aiz Wallenstein after arriving in Orario because of this. He also starts developing feelings for Ryuu as well, out of respect for her strength and beauty.
  • Amusing Injuries: Bell is beaten unconscious by The Radiance in her attempts to teach him her brand of swordsmanship. It gets to the point that Bell's sense of danger has been heightened by the experience and he wants to leave Altena ASAP out of fear for his life. It's all Played for Laughs though.
  • Animal Motif: He's frequently compared to a white rabbit, between his empahsis on speed and dexterity over raw strength, his gentle and naive personality, and his strikingly white hair.
  • The Apprentice: Kojiro is teaching Bell the ins and outs of swordsmanship, though not necessarily his own style, as Bell takes up Dual Wielding instead using a single sword thanks to Ryoma's gift. His skills slowly improve over the course of his globetrotting journey, going from being easily swat around by Kojiro, to challenging trained soldiers, to quickly subduing an armed terrorist despite not having a falna.
  • Audience Surrogate: Bell is this for those unfamiliar with the Fate and DanMachi's stories. As a Farm Boy and a Country Mouse from a secluded mountain range, Bell is sheltered and has only the barest of knowledge about the world around him. Because of this, he asks a lot of questions, including questions about Kojiro's past with the mysteriously powerful adventurers from around the world.
  • Badass Adorable: Bell is a bright-eyed Country Mouse with a pretty face that gets others to compare him to a rabbit, pinch his cheeks, and generally see him as something to dote on or tease. But thanks to lessons from Kojiro and gifts from Kojiro's friends, Bell becomes increasingly capable in a fight. He also manages to invent his own magic spell on his first try, an unprecedented feat that even Kojiro cannot match.
  • Badass Normal: Bell tries to be this, but without the godlike skill of his mentor, he has to act carefully to make a difference in a fight with adventurers. That said, Kojiro's training has left him far more skilled than any boy his age would normally be, and he puts up a good showing during a friendly spar with a Level 1 adventurer from Rakia, to the point that the latter actually feared defeat. This is even more notable given that Bell was Dual Wielding for the first time, meaning that he was fighting on par with a trained soldier despite never fighting in this way before. While he never actually manages to beat an adventurer during his stay in Rakia, he does come close on several occasions.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Bell wished for years to come to Orario and become an adventurer and a hero. But upon arriving in the city, he finds himself riddled with frustration, self-doubt, and feelings of inferiority while watching Kojiro blow him out of the water in his growth as an adventurer. He laments that he probably would have been happier in any of the cities than he is in the present, to the point that his pure soul has been muddied by these self-flagellating thoughts.
  • Be Yourself: Seeing him idolizing Kojiro and trying his best to emulate him, the Radiance tells Bell to be the best Bell Cranel he can be rather than try and fail to be Kojiro, whose swordsmanship is a talent no one can surpass.
  • Black Swords Are Better: After his swords are reforged by Hephaestus, their new blades and handguard are a striking black color, etched with hieroglyphs synced to the falna of the Hestia Familia.
  • Blood on These Hands: While being attacked by terrorists as a concert in Altena, Bell immediately thrusts one of his sword through one of the culprit's shoulders, but can't bring himself to kill him. After the ordeal is suppressed by the Odin Familia, Bell finds that no matter how much he cleans his sword and hands, the blood didn't seem to come off, showing just how haunted he is by his first murder.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: Bell is the Straight Man whenever Kojiro's Blood Knight instincts get the better of him, acting as the voice of reason despite (in his own words) Kojiro being the adult.
  • Boring, but Practical: Bell's unique congenital magic, Dragon Fang, is simplistic in that it merely mirrors his own sword swing with a phantom image to strike twice in the same instant, lacking the sheer area of effect or destructive power of a long chant spell. But it's also a super short chant magic to use and only requires its name and a drawn sword to use. Not only that, it will only grow stronger once he acquires a falna and it costs little Mind to activate, making it an exceedingly practical attack spell. On his first use of it in the Dungeon, it easily cleaves a goblin and then a killer ant in half.
  • Born Lucky: One of Bell's defining traits is his extremely good luck. Running into Kojiro inspires him to go globe-trotting in search of new experiences and adventures. In the Far East, his random act of goodwill results in his friendship with Haruhime and foiling her kidnapping. In Rakia, his daydreaming and pondering about the splendors of the capital results in him running headlong into the Legiones' march and getting his blessing. In Altena, his active imagination and sheer dumb luck lets him enter the grimoire-like trance to create a magic spell on his first try, which is completely unprecedented.
  • Break the Cutie: Downplayed. While Bell wishes to be a hero, as his journey to other lands continue, he discovers the word 'Hero' has many definitions, with some not at all matching what he once believed. He is also forced to hurt, even once killing, to survive; and while others help him to move on, he still feels the effects of those actions.
  • Broken Pedestal:
    • Seeing Kojiro kill people remorselessly gets Bell to wonder if Kojiro is really a hero, and Kojiro later tells Bell that he considers himself to be evil. Despite this, Kojiro begins acting more honorably and heroically in a desire to be the hero Bell envisions him as, and Bell's trust in him remains as strong as ever.
    • The Legiones initially cows Bell with his raw charisma, authority, and power. Bell sees him as another hero and insists on treating him with proper respect. But after Bell discovers that Romulus has been bringing home slaves to build up Rakia, Bell's opinion of him sours.
    • Bell admits that he expected the Empire's greatest mage to be much more noble and dignified than Lusserina actually is, especially since she coos over him and pinches his cheeks just to embarrass him.
  • Butt-Monkey: Poor Bell is the butt of a lot of the story's humor, whether it's being dragged away for Training from Hell, getting placed in Marshmallow Hell, or having his manliness challenged and squashed by others aware of his good looks.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: Bell is completely plastered after a single sip of Soma's wine, though it's understandable given that he's only fourteen and it was his first time drinking.
  • Chivalrous Pervert:
    • Although Bell heads to Orario in search of his fabled Rescue Romance and potentially become a Harem Seeker, he's incredibly courteous towards every girl he meets and helps Haruhime escape her Gilded Cage of a home. He's also outraged when it sounds like Erebus is manipulating Nyx into marriage. He also turns down Brunhilde's attempts to recruit him into the Valkyries even if it would satisfy his Harem Seeker dream, as he respects them all too much to ever try to date them all.
    • When he accidentally bears witness to the members of the Astraea Familia stripping down, Bell is mortified and disgusted with himself, immediately getting down on his knees and begging for forgiveness. He's in tears at that point, but resolves himself to take whatever punishment they have for him even though he did it completely unintentionally. He's so sincere and pitiable that even Ryuu, an elf, and the incredibly physical Kaguya feel bad and forgive him this time.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Bell wishes he could save everyone he finds in trouble. But not only is he still a child, he still struggles against most adventurers due to lacking a falna. His desire to rescue Nyx from her kidnappers is so profound that he's able to power through her screams, as he felt that she was far more terrified that he ever would be.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Bell, Bell, Bell... it's bad enough that his entire goal is to pull off a Rescue Romance in the Dungeon, but it's amazing how good he is at unintentionally wooing others. Kojiro even lampshades it after Bell says goodbye to Nyx and calls her a good person.
Kojiro: Wooing divinity? So young, yet so ambitious. [chuckles and scratches his chin]
Bell: [frantically waving his arms with a Luminescent Blush on his face] I-I was just being nice!
Kojiro: I know that. That only makes your potential so much more terrifying. [shakes his head with an overly dramatic sigh]
Bell: What are you talking about?!
    • He's largely oblivious to his effect on the opposite sex, seeing Haruhime and Nyx as Just Friends and getting flustered whenever the topic of entering a relationship comes up.
    • Later on, he calls Ryuu cute after they end up taking each other's First Kisses as part of a Fake-Out Make-Out, leaving her blushing and embarrassed because she'd always been called too manly.
      • This is after Kaguya specifically asks that Bell not do something like this, in a Call-Back to Kojiro's statement.
Kaguya: Don’t woo Ryuu too hard. [sighs while shaking her head] Over twenty or not, Ryuu is still a child sometimes.
Bell: (shouting while turning red) I-I wasn’t planning to!
Kaguya: And isn’t that terrifying to imagine?
  • Combat Pragmatist: Kojiro teaches Bell to use every opportunity available to him to win a fight. Groin Attacks, A Handful for an Eye, and In the Back are all valid if it means survival, especially when Bell is often physically inferior to his opponents due to lacking a falna during his trip around the world. When Nyx is kidnapped, Bell takes advantage of the distraction Kojiro makes to drop in from above and stab a man through the neck before he can react.
  • Country Mouse: Prior to setting out with Kojiro, Bell has only known the farm nestled in the mountains with his grandpa. So he reacts with surprise and delight whenever setting foot in another place, marveling at the sights while being woefully naïve until things are explained to him. Kojiro pointedly avoids mentioning that Rakia likely gains its riches from pillaging other nations, if only to avoid souring Bell's journey and their visit. During his visit to Altena, he's in awe at the ice-coated buildings and is stunned by the notion of a "concert" and the magical technology used in it.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Well, grandparents. Bell's parents died long before he was old enough to remember them, and he was raised by his grandfather instead. Bell's grandpa was his only company until Kojiro arrived, and died shortly before Bell's departure to travel the world. After he turns down all of Odin's and Brunhilde's attempts to recruit him into the Valkyries, Bell still looks back fondly on his grandfather and imagines him shaking his head at Bell giving up the opportunity to have a harem.
  • Do Not Call Me Sir: Kojiro continually calls Bell "young master" despite Bell's pleas that he just call him by his name.
  • Dual Wielding: After being gifted a katana and wakizashi, Bell starts trying to fight like this. Although he's still inexperienced and loses his first spar, he still puts up a fine showing against a Level 1 soldier of Rakia.
  • Easily Forgiven: He's shocked at how easily Alise and the rest of the Astraea Familia are able to forgive him for his Accidental Pervert moment, expecting them to go full Pervert Revenge Mode. They tell him that it's not like they knew about him and they didn't bother checking their surroundings before taking off their clothes, so it's not his fault. Even the coarse and direct Kaguya admits that he's so pitiable that he's making her feel bad.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: When the Radiance is unmasked, Bell finds himself awestruck by her beauty and somewhat jealous that she's giving all of her attention to Kojiro. Her hair and eyes in particular dazzle him and make his heart flutter. Bell only stops staring when the realizes that the others are staring at him. After all, she's Artoria Pendragon.
  • Effective Knockoff: Bell's Dragon Fang spell is essentially a magical version of Tsubame Gaeshi, albeit inferior as it only involves one additional swing rather than two. Despite this, Kojiro praises Bell's invention of the spell as something he could never accomplish and looks forward to seeing Bell surpass him one day.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Thanks to his nearly year-long trek around the globe while being tutored by Kojiro, Bell becomes more than capable of handling himself in a fight even without falna. After getting falna, killing goblins becomes a pitifully easy task to a rookie adventurer like him.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Bell's bright-eyed Country Mouse personality quickly endears him to others. Kojiro teases Bell constantly and tries to better himself for the sake of Bell's admiration of him, the Legiones takes a shine to Bell's Open Mouth, Insert Foot moment by taking it as a sign of an inquisitive personality, and Lusserina coos over how cute Bell is.
  • Everyone's Baby Sister: As the youngest person living at Stardust Garden, Bell's sincerity and sweetness elicits protective feelings from both the Hestia Familia and Astraea Familia. The battle-hungry Kojiro comes to care for Bell as a student. The normally cold and pragmatic Kaguya also leaps to Bell's defense when Bete mocks him as the weakling who ran in terror when Aiz showed up, drinking Bete under the table in the process.
  • Experience Booster: His skill, Trailblazer, works like Liaris Freese in that it boosts Bell's growth rate. Unlike Liaris Freese, it also boosts the growth rate of others accompanying him on his journey.
  • Farm Boy: Prior to setting off on his globe-trotting adventure with Kojiro, Bell lived on his grandfather's farm. Because of this, he has a sort of cheerful naivete and wide-eyed outlook on the world.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Following his Training from Hell with Ryuu and Lyra in preparation for a War Game with Eris, Bell dons what's called his "outlaw rabbit" outfit, an armored hoodie that leaves his arm bare on one side save for an armband.
  • First Love: The first girl Bell goes truly googly-eyed for is the Radiance, a Head-Turning Beauty who is also powerful and independent. He quickly accepts the fact that she's way out of his league, but it soon establishes what he's looking for in a girl: golden-haired, strong, and beautiful.
  • Friendless Background: Having grown up in a secluded farm nestled in mountains, Bell grew up alone with his grandfather save for the rare visitor. Because of this, he dearly cherishes any friendships he makes and is worried that Kojiro doesn't see him as one.
  • Green Around the Gills: Bell discovers that he gets terribly seasick during his voyage to Rakia, hunching over the side of the boat and desperately trying not to puke twice until Nyx gives him some awful tasting but effective medicine to cure it.
  • A Handful for an Eye: While sparring with a soldier of Rakia, Bell finds himself on the backfoot and digs his swords into the sand to fling it at his opponent's eyes to try and take back the advantage. Bell still loses and gets knocked out cold, but the men around him praise him for holding his own despite not having a falna and don't seem to take issue with this bit of Combat Pragmatism.
  • Has a Type: Bell realizes that he has a thing for strong, independent women with golden blonde hair after meeting the Radiance, staring speechlessly at her face until this is pointed out to him. Unfortunately, the "strong, independent" part means that Haruhime is off the list immediately, as he just cares for her as his first friend. Ryuu ends up falling in his strike zone as well, as they end up learning about each other while on a fake date in the Red Light District.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Although he starts with a knife, Bell has been practicing his swordsmanship under Kojiro's tutelage and is skilled enough to at least hold his own against a Level 1 adventurer for a time.
  • Heroic Lineage: Although it's not directly acknowledged in the story, Brunhilde asks if Bell has a powerful mage like the Silence, the most powerful human mage and an executive of the legendary Hera Familia, in his bloodline. Bell has no knowledge of this, but Alfia is indeed Bell's aunt, and her talent for magic seems to have been passed down to him.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Bell has the morals of a storybook hero and is hard on himself because he doesn't live up to his own expectations or the feats of those around him like Kojiro. After developing magic on his first try, he's stunned by how much of a big deal Brunhilde makes out of it and is initially going to brush it off until Kojiro tells him to cut it out with the needless false humility. A large amount of the advice he receives from Kojiro's former companions is to take pride in himself and his accomplishments rather than selling himself short and cowing himself in the process.
  • Hero-Worshipper:
    • Having grown up reading stories of heroism to soothe his own loneliness, Bell gets starry-eyed whenever he meets an adventurer of some renown. He looks up to Kojiro in particular and tries to emulate him, for better or worse.
    • After joining the Hestia Familia, he finds himself looking up the Astraea Familia as well.
  • Idiot Hero: Downplayed. Hans says Bell doesn't have a lot of brains, which Bell doesn't refute. But while Bell is no genius, he's simply more naïve and sheltered than anything and thinks well on his feet.
  • Imagine Spot: Bell mentions having daydreams about the kind of a hero he wants to be, such as becoming a pirate who explores new lands and discovers new things (without all the actual piracy). His imagination is so strong that it helps him create his own magic on his first try.
  • Innocence Lost: Bell's time in the Far East and Rakia lifts a "pretty veil" from his eyes. Being forced to murder a man to protect Haruhime and learning that Rakia's glory and splendor is derived from the suffering of others leaves him wondering what a "hero" really is, and if he'd ever be willing to go to the same lengths as the Legiones to become one. It takes a pep talk from Nyx to snap him out of this funk and allow him to approach Yggdrasil with the same wonder he did in the Far East and Rakia.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Despite arriving in Orario a year after he would have in canon, he still ends up joining the Hestia Familia per Hans' suggestion.
    • He also ends up getting attacked by a minotaur chased onto the Upper Floors by Aiz, and runs away after falling into Love at First Sight when she tries to ask if he's okay.
  • It Gets Easier: Defied. When Bell tells Artoria he wishes the pain of killing and committing less than moral acts would go away, she tells him he shouldn't think like that. As by keeping the guilt he can still be 'human', with Bell ultimately coming to accept the burden of it never getting easier instead.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Bell is repeatedly rewarded for his good deeds and kind personality, receiving glowing praise from Kojiro's former companions as well as all sorts of neat gifts and perks, such as the Daisho given to him by Ryoma for befriending Haruhime. He also gets the VIP treatment in Altena for defending Odin during a terrorist attack, earning a free stay in Odin's familia hall as well as the opportunity to meet the Valkyries and the visiting Radiance. He even gets free magic lessons that let him develop his own super short chant magic before he ever gets a falna
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Ryoma gifts him a Daisho, an expensive and well-made katana-wakizashi combo. They're sharp enough to easily kill even blessed adventurers and pierce though someone's shoulder without resistance. Unfortunately, they're made with non-Dungeon materials, meaning that they shatter when Bell pushes them past their limits against an enhanced minotaur created by Nyx. Hestia knows how attached Bell is to them and begs Hephaestus to reforge them into something stronger
  • Kid Hero: He's only 14 at the start of the story, and he gets into plenty of adventure even before he gets to Orario. Also deconstructed, as he's clearly unprepared for some of the things he faces in the world outside of his family's farm and needs the help of the adults to make it out alive.
  • Kid Samurai: Due to being trained by Kojiro in the use of a sword, Bell is slowly becoming this, and Ryoma supports him by gifting him a high-quality katana and wakizashi for him to use.
  • Love at First Sight: While he quickly brushes off the Radiance as being way out of his league, Bell is instantly smitten with Aiz the moment he lays eyes on her. Despite the laundry list of reasons he comes up with to try and get her out of his head, he continues to fantasize about rescuing and marrying her one day. And yet, he also finds himself attracted to Ryuu, and their fake date and impromptu Fake-Out Make-Out shakes his singleminded longing for Aiz.
  • Magic Knight: Bell learns magic under Brunhilde's tutelage during his stay in Altena while continuing to polish his swordsmanship with Kojiro, turning him into this.
  • Magnetic Hero: Bell's kindness, storybook-like sense of morality, and desire to do anything a hero would quickly make him allies throughout his travels. Kojiro in particular feels a desire to protect him and live up to Bell's heroic image of him when even the incredibly charismatic Ritsuka Fujimaru could not make Kojiro change his ways.
  • Meaningful Rename: Not Bell, but he decides to rename his swords from the generic "Daisho" to Homebringer out of thanks for the swords holding out long enough for him and the other members of the Hestia Familia to do in the enhanced minotaur, thereby allowing him to come home against all odds.
  • Men Don't Cry: When Welf tells Bell that he'll go far as an adventurer, he struggles not to burst into Tears of Joy on the spot, telling himself that he's a grown boy and turning his tears into a giddy smile.
  • Morality Chain: Bell is this for Kojiro, who would normally simply look for opponents to amuse himself with. If not for Bell, Kojiro would have simply ignored Haruhime's plight as something that isn't his own business. But Bell's admiration of him instills in Kojiro a desire to prove himself worthy of it that even Ritsuka Fujimaru could not.
  • Muscle Angst: Bell is only fourteen and 5'5'', making him above-average height for his age, but still shorter and slimmer than many of the warriors and adventurers around him. He takes issue with this when Welf points out that his Pyonkichi armor is for those with "smaller statures", wishing he was tall and manly instead. Bell is even more distraught when Welf says that he originally designed this armor for his little sister prior to her growth spurt.
  • Naïve Newcomer: Bell is a sheltered Farm Boy with little knowledge of the outside world and only his grandpa and stories to teach him morals. Because of this, he explores every new locale with wide-eyed wonder. On multiple occasions, his naivety gets him into trouble with the locals until Kojiro bails him out.
  • Nice Guy: Bell is an almost effortlessly selfless and kind young man. He's always thinking of others before himself, can't help but try to save a distressed damsel, and is distressed when Kojiro kills others even if those people were trying to kill him first.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: The first thing to come out of Bell's mouth when meeting the Legiones is why the city is called Roma when the kingdom is known as Rakia, which even he apologizes for. Luckily for him, the Legiones takes this as a sign of Bell's curious and inquisitive mind and compliments him for asking such a thing.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome:
    • Bell puts up a pretty good showing against a Level 1 adventurer in a spar despite lacking a falna himself. He's about to pat himself on the back for it when he learns that Kojiro has already knocked out five Level 1 adventurers. The only reason he hadn't knocked out more is because they were too scared to challenge him. The sight of this leaves Bell frustrated at the gap in their abilities.
    • Once Bell and Kojiro become proper adventurers, Bell is dismayed by the fact that Kojiro is growing faster than he is, as all of Kojiro's stats are F except for his E in Dexterity and G in Endurance in his first two weeks of adventuring. Kojiro's growth blinds Bell to how he's growing twice as fast as a normal adventurer. The gulf only grows wider by the end of the month, as Kojiro's stats are A across the board with the exception of his S in Dexterity and D in Endurance while Bell's stats are mostly sitting at F. Kojiro's insane growth skews Bell's perception of his own progress, clouding his originally pure soul with doubt and feelings of inferiority.
  • Positive Friend Influence: Bell's admiration for Kojiro and pure, honest desire to learn from him and become a hero embarrasses Kojiro to the point that he decides to act more like the hero Bell envisions him as, defending Bell and those he cares about from harm, giving him genuinely good advice, and beginning to care more about his image so he won't bring shame on Bell. Lampshaded by Hans, who notices that there's something different about him, as Kojiro is no longer single-mindedly focused on dueling Worthy Opponents to the death.
  • Post-Victory Collapse: Bell is exhausted after killing the man holding Haruhime hostage and collapses into her arms. But fighting go on around him is so intense that he doesn't actually pass out until Oryou deals with Araki.
  • Pretty Boy: Bell has a cute face and is lean enough to fit into armor Welf designed for his little sister. Bell's pride is wounded by this, and he wishes he was taller and manlier instead. Odin says that between Bell's face and soul, he could easily become a Wholesome Crossdresser Idol Singer, though Bell quickly declines.
  • Red Baron: "White Fool".
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: A subversion. He's one of several characters with red eyes in the story, including Oryou and the Legiones. But Bell is by and far away the sweetest and kindest among them. That doesn't mean he can't put a sword through a man's throat, but he certainly won't enjoy it or do it carelessly.
  • Reforged Weapon: After being broken in a battle against an enhanced minotaur, Bell's Daisho are reforged into what he and Hestia christen "Blades of Hestia: Homebringer", possessing durability worthy of weapons made by the Goddess of the Forge and the ability to match Bell's growth rate, improving its abilities along with Bell's own stats.
  • Rescue Romance:
    • Thanks to his grandpa filling his head with stories, Bell wants to go to Orario to save a girl in the Dungeon and have a storybook romance. Unbeknownst to him, he's already accomplished this with Haruhime, who is so grateful to him for being her first friend and for rescuing her that she's now training to one day be with him.
    • He's also on the receiving end of this, as he's instantly head-over-heels for Aiz after she rescues him from a minotaur, and unlike the Radiance is unable to get Aiz out of his head.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: After Aiz rescues him from a minotaur, Bell screams at a pitch that Kojiro didn't know he could reach.
  • Simultaneous Blade Spam: Under Odin and Brunhilde's tutelage, Bell develops his own congenital magic, Dragon Fang, that causes a phantom figure to mimic his sword swing like the closing jaws of a dragon. Its similarities to Kojiro's Tsubame Gaeshi do not go unnoticed.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Discussed. When Bell manages to develop and use a unique congenital magic spell on his first try, Brunhilde is dumbstruck and demands to know if he has any elves, spirits, or powerful mages like the Silence in his bloodline. Bell is too stunned to speak, but thinks that such a thing as impossible. In actuality, the Silence is his aunt, Alfia, whom he never met as she died years ago when he was still a young boy.
  • Superpower Lottery: Bell essentially gets an even better version of Liaris Freese called Trailblazer that serves as an Experience Booster to his allies as well as himself. This is in addition a super powerful Charged Attack in Argonaut and his Luck skill.
  • Tarot Motifs: Bell displays the traits of the Fool. He's an innocent young man brimming with potential and a vivid imagination who heads out on a journey to see the world for himself. Freya even gets his alias to be "White Fool", referring to both his albinism, his foolhardy heroism, and his nature as a blank canvas of potential. She admits that it's Hans who came up with it, which means that he's likely invoking this trope on purpose. He also makes this the title of his novelization of Bell's globe-trotting adventure.
  • Teen Genius:
    • Bell finds that he has a knack for magic when Odin gets Brunhilde to teach him, succeeding at creating his own magic after his first meditation session when it normally takes months or even years of practice to create and perform congenital magic. He later develops a second spell, Firebolt, with just one more meditation practice.
    • Due to the experiences he had prior to becoming an adventurer, his stats are growing at an accelerated rate. His Agility, Dexterity, and Magic grew to G while the rest of his stats grew to H in his first two weeks of adventuring. an overall growth of 800 points. Compare that to canon Bell getting a mere 25 points a day in his first two weeks, meaning that he's growing at more than double the normal rate.
  • Tempting Fate: After a relatively uneventful and relaxing stay in Rakia, Bell comes to the conclusion that he wouldn't ever run into another ordeal like the plot against Haruhime in Altena. Sure enough, the concert he's attending is attacked by god-hating terrorists.
  • Tender Tears: When Kaguya and Lyra reveal their disabilities to Bell, they expect him to recoil with horror. He instead bursts into tears for them, telling them that people amazing as them didn't deserve such a fate. Lampshaded by Lyra, who asks why the heck he's crying when they're the ones who are crippled.
  • That Came Out Wrong: After his Fake-Out Make-Out session with Ryuu, Bell is so emotionally charged that he fumbles his words while trying to assuage Ryuu's concerns over taking his First Kiss.
Bell: Was... was it your first kiss too?
Ryuu: [hiding her lips with her hand] W-what if it was?
Bell: Then I guess it’s fine. I lost mine, you lost yours?
    Ryuu: Phrasing, Bell.
Bell: S-sorry! I’m-I’m just saying! [scratching the back of his head] Err, b-better to lose it to a cute girl like you! Hahaha... A-any man would f-feel lucky to be with someone like you!
  • These Hands Have Killed: It doesn't really settle in for Bell until after he leaves Rakia, but learning about what made the Legiones a hero to Rakia makes Bell wonder if he'd do it again, and if it will get easier for him to justify murder over time. Kojiro doesn't exactly comfort him about it, but does tell him that only he can decide what he thinks is right and what he can live with.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Not at first. But because he decides to take a journey before entering Orario, he earns skills and some abilities that he didn't have before he goes to the city.
  • Useless Useful Spell: Hestia is proud to proclaim that Bell's new Blades of Hestia can only be wielded by members of the Hestia Familia, as it's duller than a butter knife otherwise. Unfortunately, Kojiro declines as Dual Wielding is not his style, Solaris prefers a spear, and Haruhime is a Bare-Fisted Monk.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Downplayed. He's not nearly as skilled as Kojiro or as strong, but he's still well-trained enough to easily subdue and defeat a distracted terrorist, blessed or not. His skills get praise from Rakia's trained soldiers.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Between his pure soul, good looks, and gentle personality, Odin asks Bell if he'd like to become the first crossdressing idol. Bell, embarrassed and stunned, fervently denies the opportunity.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Bell initially has a simplistic view of what a hero is thanks to reading nothing but storybooks growing up. In his eyes, heroes are people who always help others in trouble, protect the weak, and punish evil. But over the course of his almost year-long journey, Bell is forced to come to grips with the fact that the world is not so black and white. Many of the people he looks up to, the mightiest adventurers in the world, rose to prominence for deeds that may be considered awful, and this cognitive dissonance troubles Bell, especially after he's forced to kill and hurt others to protect people he cares about.
  • Wrecked Weapon: His precious Daisho shatters while fighting the recreation of Greece's Minotauros produced by Nyx's Holy Grail. Hestia goes to get it reforged by Hephaestus because she knows he's attached to it.
  • You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious: Kojiro usually calls Bell "young master" to tease him for his humility as well as nod to Kojiro's past as a Servant. But when Bell is about to self-deprecate after managing to complete a magic spell on his first try, Kojiro stops himself from calling him "young master" and calls him "Bell" to show just how serious he is about getting Bell to take pride in himself and his accomplishments.

    Sasaki Kojiro

Sasaki Kojiro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/assassinsasagostate1.png

A mysterious swordsman who collapses onto the farm Bell lives on. He's in truth an incarnated Servant, a copy of a Heroic Spirit recorded on the Throne of Heroes for his deeds. As thanks for the hospitality Bell and his grandfather showed him, Kojiro guides Bell on his globe-trotting road trip while trying to unravel the reasons behind his strange and sudden summoning to this land.

  • Badass Boast: Kojiro drops two in rapid succession, calmly asking Araki if defeating a Level 2 would put a damper on his morale before defying the notion that strength alone can determine the outcome of a fight.
Kojiro: This rule that numbers are everything... shall I break that belief open with brute force?
  • Badass Normal: As an incarnated human without a falna, Kojiro has only his skills to fall back on when battling the superhuman adventurers. Despite this, he's able to keep up with and even kill low-level adventurers with ease even before reobtaining his Monohoshizao. It's hard for many to believe that he's unblessed, and Level 1 adventurers who see him work are too terrified to challenge him.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Tsubame Gaeshi is this, with all who witness it being shocked beyond belief that such a feat is possible without magic or divine intervention. Astraea and Hestia are also uncertain if gods could do it, even with their Arcanum. Everyone who witnesses him use it in the War Game can only feel disbelief that he could perform something like Tsubame Gaeshi without any magic whatsoever.
    • He demonstrates just how skilled he is by fighting evenly against a Level 5 opponent while he himself is only Level 3.
It was a wonder the Swallow Slayer wasn’t overwhelmed by the speed and ferocity of the mysterious man’s attacks. If Finn’s assessment was correct, this was indeed a two level difference. Naturally many were sweating bullets just seeing that, seeing that Hans was not overplaying things. It was impossible. How? How could someone defy the common rules like that? Jealousy. Fear. They all spread around as hands tightened up, as teeth grinded against each other.
    • He one ups the previous achievement when he develops Prism Trance, something that astonishes the incarnated Servants and any god that has even an idea of what it is.
  • BFS: Kojiro has his Monohoshizao replicated before leaving the Far East. It's a katana 5 shaku, or 150 cm, long, more than twice the length of the average sword.
  • Blade Spam: His signature technique, Tsubame Gaeshi, allows him to manifest alternate possibilities to produce three sword slashes simultaneously. Combined with the reach and curvature of his sword, this attack is virtually impossible to dodge if it's performed on level ground and if his equipment is undamaged. While fighting against Revis, he surpasses himself by combining it with Okita Souji's Mumyou Sandanzuki into it, reducing Revis and the Demi-Spirit with her into an existence akin to a fine net (though he was intending to concentrate his attacks rather than blowing her away with a shotgun-like flurry).
  • Blood Knight: Kojiro is always looking for worthy opponents to fight, challenging five Rakian adventurers in a row to spar with and handily defeating all of them. He would have kept going had the Rakian soldiers not been too scared to keep fighting him. The mere sight of Artoria again gets his blood boiling enough for him to reenact their final duel on the steps of the Ryuudou Temple, a challenge that she gladly takes him up on.
  • Cassandra Truth: Kojiro doesn't try to hide his abilities or his backstory more than necessary, and the details about his life that he does tell Bell are often hard to stomach. When Bell asks where he met Ryoma, Oryou, and the Legiones, Kojiro says that they met under many mysterious circumstances while the world was on fire. This leaves Bell with more questions than answers, and a baffled and panicked Bell immediately asks when was this while Kojiro drops the subject completely. He also tells Araki that his Tsubame Gaeshi is not magic, but pure skill.
  • Challenge Seeker: Kojiro is always looking for a Worthy Opponent to fight. When he hears that the Level 7 Starfall broke the record for fastest level up by achieving it in three months, Bell sees a glint in Kojiro's eye that tells him that Kojiro wants to break even that record. He also advises Bell to ignore Eina's advice about not going on an adventure, as people who become heroes take risks and walk alongside death. He proves this by taking on an enhanced species of Infant Dragon to achieve his level up, despite its reputation as a pseudo-Monster Rex on the upper floors.
  • Chick Magnet: Kojiro can catch girls as well as he can cut swallows when he wants to. He gets Hrist blushing with a smile and a simple word of thanks after she informs him that the Empire's convoy has arrived.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Kojiro's fixation on finding a Worthy Opponent to fight results in comical spats with Bell where the latter tries to get him to face the logical or moral implications of picking a fight to the death.
Bell: We are not picking a fight with the local nobles, Kojiro!
Kojiro: You’re right. [nods gravely before sighing] They don’t seem particularly strong to begin with.
    Bell: Not the point!
  • Cool Teacher: Although Kojiro teases Bell, trolls him, and leaves him with plenty of bruises in their training sessions, it's blatantly clear that he cares about Bell and his development. He will also kill anyone who threatens to hurt Bell.
  • Corpsing: In-Universe. Kojiro can barely hold in his laughter when Odin proposes that Bell join his familia and become the first crossdressing Idol Singer.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Kojiro challenges the Radiance, an adventurer strong enough to take on the Legiones, to a one-on-one duel as soon as they meet. She quickly plows through his skill and speed-based defense with brute force, dislocating his shoulder and bending his sword in the process. But Kojiro does damage her helmet to the point that it cracks and falls to pieces, implying that he would have cut through her head had it not been there.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Kojiro is able to easily defeat five Level 1 adventurers in a row with ease during his time in Rakia as well as kill the Level 2 Shinjiro in their duel thanks to his unparalleled swordsmanship. Upon joining the Hestia Familia, he gains the power boost of falna, which only makes him even more deadly.
  • Excuse Me While I Multitask: To Bell's dismay, Kojiro can easily repel all of Bell's attacks in their spars with a bored look on his face.
  • Experienced Protagonist: Zigzagged. Kojiro has a lifetime of experience as a warrior on top of his experiences as a Servant, allowing his falna to draw out more of his potential and increase his stats faster than a normal person like Bell. However, he's just as new to Orario as Bell and needs to have some concepts explained to him.
  • Famed In-Story: After achieving the fastest level up in Orario's history, Kojiro becomes an instant celebrity, which only fuels Bell's growing feelings of inferiority.
  • Figure It Out Yourself: Bell is troubled after taking a life to save Haruhime and goes to Kojiro for advice. To Bell's dismay, Kojiro says that in his view, those who take lives are evil, and thus he defines himself as evil. But Kojiro soon clarifies that it's only Bell who can decide what will set his mind at peace, and that he'll simply have to find a way to live with it. Bell realizes that he'd been acting childish by expecting to be spoon-fed lessons on morality and whether or not he's a good person, so he takes this as a sign to do some introspection.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Kojiro isn't exactly a "hero" by the modern definition of the word, but he serves as Bell's mentor and pseudo-parental figure. He also wields a katana to devastating effect thanks to his unrivaled mastery of the blade.
  • Heroic Comedic Sociopath: Kojiro comes from a time where murder, duels to the death, and calamity were common. Because of this, he feels nothing when killing others and tends to solve most of his problems with violence, whether it's slitting the throats of men trying to kill Bell or threatening to kill a man if he doesn't confess his crimes. Even after a hard-fought duel against a Level 2 adventurer that ends with the latter in pieces, Kojiro's only real reaction is satisfaction from achieving his Tsubame Gaeshi again. As Bell comes to grips with this, he starts to worry if Kojiro cares about him at all, though Kojiro's own perspective shows that he cares about Bell more than he ever thought he would.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Discussed. Kojiro says that he considers himself evil for killing so recklessly and frequently, as anyone who takes a life is evil in his view. But he also says that he doesn't particularly care what people call him until he sees the troubled look on Bell's face, so Kojiro amends that by saying that he cares a little now.
  • Humanity Ensues: Kojiro's narration mentions that he has to get used to having a human body again, nearly starving to death while wandering in search of civilization. He also has to reacquaint himself with the weight of a sword and the limitations of an unblessed human body, needing a year to relearn his Tsubame Gaeshi.
  • I Need to Go Iron My Dog: When Bell is being dragged off by Brunhilde, he begs Kojiro for help. But Kojiro merely turns around and says that he has to go save France, which even Bell knows is an obvious lie as there's no country in the world with a name as fake sounding as "France".
  • Katanas Are Just Better: He makes do with an ordinary katana until he's able to get a replication of his Monohoshizao, a sword as long as a spear, forged in the Far East, allowing his Tsubame Gaeshi to become a true threat.
  • Lack of Empathy: A swordsman only looking for a good fight, Kojiro doesn't particularly care for the squabbles of the countries he goes through and feels nothing when killing others, much to Bell's confusion and fear. Because of this, he sees no reason to get involved after Haruhime is kidnapped under their watch, but Bell's insistence that they rescue her gets him to come around.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: Kojiro has no interest in learning magic, telling Hrist as such when Odin orders her to give Kojiro and Bell lessons on creating their own spells. Unlike Bell's miraculously successful first attempt, Kojiro treats the meditation session as nothing more than a chance to relax.
  • Master Swordsman: Kojiro's raw skill as a swordsman is unparalleled. No matter how much Bell tries to learn from him, he feels he can never close the gulf between them. Not to mention Kojiro's ability to make reality give up to allow him to cut down a swallow by letting him swing three times with a single motion. The Radiance tells Bell to just give up on trying to match or surpass him in this regard, as no one alive can do that.
  • Mentor Archetype: Kojiro serves as this for Bell, drilling him in swordsmanship and serving as a guide and bodyguard as he travels the world.
  • My Kung-Fu Is Stronger Than Yours: "Wind Blade" Shinjiro is famed for his mastery of Shohato, a sword technique in which he slashes twice in almost the same instant. Kojiro scoffs at him for being unable to kill a swallow with such a thing, later killing him with Tsubame Gaeshi, which slashes three times in the same motion.
  • Mysterious Past: Although he's known Kojiro for a year, Bell eventually realizes that he knows practically nothing about Kojiro's past aside from his magnificent swordsmanship. Kojiro gradually reveals more and more as their journey continues, including his shared history with Ryoma and Oryou as well as The Legiones, though Bell is in disbelief over the circumstances despite the truth behind Kojiro's words.
  • Nerves of Steel: Kojiro never, ever loses his cool, chatting casually with Bell even after murdering three men who were beating the boy up. Learning that Haruhime had been kidnapped under his watch only gets Kojiro to wave off the matter as he continues with a casual smile. He also has no problems walking right up to the Legiones, whose raw charisma and presence give Bell the urge to get down on his knees, and shaking his hand, even as a small army demands he show respect.
  • Parental Substitute: While Bell sees Kojiro as a friend, Kojiro is in many ways a father figure to him after the death of Bell's grandpa. Kojiro defends Bell from those who would harm him, offers life advice and council, while making sure to allow Bell to experience new things and grow on his own. Bell looks to him for morals and guidance, and Kojiro cares about him enough that Hans is surprised that Kojiro is no longer single-mindedly focused on fighting.
  • Red Baron: "Swallow Slayer".
  • Simultaneous Blade Spam: Kojiro's signature Tsubame Gaeshi is a technique so profound it borders on the Second Magic. Upon use, Kojiro's swings three times in a single motion by forcing multiple possibilities into existence at once, creating an inescapable prison of swords that's impossible to dodge.
  • Super-Reflexes: Even while constrained to an unblessed human body, Kojiro's raw skill and experience lets him react to and parry away attacks that would normally be too fast for him to see. This is most notable when he challenges the Radiance to a duel, as her movement practically resembled teleportation to Bell, yet Kojiro was still able to react quickly enough to counterattack and split her helmet in two despite the sheer disparity in speed and power (albeit, neither of them were going for the kill).
  • Took a Level in Kindness: His politeness and charm aside, Kojiro originally cared for nothing but interesting conversations and thrilling duels to the death. Meeting Bell and becoming his mentor makes Kojiro reexamine his priorities now that he's no longer a Servant, instead deciding to become more like the hero Bell sees him as to be a better role model for him.
  • True Sight: Kojiro surpasses his previous limits as a Servant by developing Prism Trance, allowing him to see all the possibilities in a fight by viewing all of them in parallel timelines.
His eyes shimmered. He had to go beyond the world. The moment the thought entered his mind... it just clicked. He saw as the world split into two, then into four. It kept splitting up as his eyes glowed with every color in existence, countless worlds coming into existence.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Due to his painfully drab wardrobe and lack of a falna, Kojiro tends to get written off as a mook by low-level adventurers. His skill with the sword quickly teaches them that this is a mistake, often their last.
  • Weak, but Skilled: As an incarnated human, Kojiro doesn't possess the sheer superhuman speed and strength of a Servant. But his skills remain untouched aside from getting used to once again having a flesh-and-blood body. As such, he, despite not having a falna, is able to fight on par with Level 1 and 2 adventurers, something that's supposed to be practically impossible.
  • What's Up, King Dude?: Upon meeting the Legiones, Rakia's mightiest adventurer and one of the highest authorities in the country, Kojiro simply walks up to him and shakes his hand while addressing him by his true name Romulus-Quirinus, much to the horror of Bell and the nearby soldiers, who demand Kojiro show him respect. But given that they once fought alongside each other at Chaldea, the Legiones waves them off and greets Kojiro and Bell warmly before declaring that they're under his protection.
  • Willfully Weak: In order to guarantee his level up to Level 2, Kojiro takes on an Enhanced Species of an Infant Dragon without using Tsubame Gaeshi.
  • World's Best Warrior: The Radiance outright tells Bell that in a contest of swordsmanship, no one will ever have Kojiro beat.

    Hestia

Hestia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hestia_zenshin.png
Goddess of the Hearth

The virgin goddess of the hearth and the head of the Hestia Familia.

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Bell is not her first child, and so she's not as clingy and fixated on him as in-canon.
  • Audience Surrogate: She's new to starting and leading a familia, asking many of the questions and going through struggles that explain the responsibilities of a god.
  • Foil: She's pretty much everything Astraea isn't. A newbie at managing a familia, energetic, kind of foolhardy, and extremely affectionate with her children. While Astraea is tall and well-proportioned, Hestia is short and buxom.
  • Pretty Freeloaders: She's rooming in Astraea's Stardust Garden, and seems to do menial chores as a maid to pay for it.
  • Work Off the Debt: To pay for the Blades of Hestia, the goddess takes up several part-time jobs to work off a debt so huge that she hides it by saying it's something that those with a mortal lifespanwon't have to worry about.

    Solaris Crozzo

Solaris Crozzo

Welf's little sister and the captain of the Hestia Familia. She's a Level 2 adventurer known as "Flamma".

  • Action Girl: As a Level 2 adventurer, she's a certified elite beyond the vast majority of adventurers in Orario.
  • Convection, Schmonvection: Subverted. Bell is surprised when he feels heat coming from her while she's casting her magic despite being a fair distance away. She's also left sweaty and exhausted after using it.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She's a certified Action Girl, but she has a bad habit of wrecking her own weapons with her magic, forcing Hestia to shell out money to buy her more equipment.
  • Establishing Character Moment: She's introduced barging into the Stardust Garden after delving deeper into the Dungeon than she should have before immediately stripping off her armor and complaining about "H-Man". She then gets herself scolded for losing yet another piece of equipment with a smile on her face.
  • Famed In-Story: As a Level 2 adventurer, she's head and shoulders above the Level 1 adventurers that make up the majority of Orario's adventurers. She's also infamous for her tendency to destroy her weapons and the monsters she's killing, costing Hestia dearly for the equipment and losing an income source by incinerating the magic stone. Seeing her causes the Level 1 adventurers to scream at her to go down to the middle floors so they can still make money.
  • Fiery Redhead: An energetic, passionate adventurer with a head of red hair.
  • Flaming Sword: Deconstructed. Her magic, Inferno, sets her weapon ablaze to fire a powerful beam that instantly disintegrates monsters on the upper floors. Unfortunately, it also burns her spear into a useless wreck in the process.
  • Genki Girl: She's extremely energetic, complaining about "H-Man" being a "Debbie Downer", going deeper in the Dungeon than she should, and challenging her guild advisor to see who would change first.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Upon seeing Bell and Kojiro easily kill monsters, Bell notes that she's a bit jealous. Downplayed, as Solaris doesn't seem to let it get to her and instead tries hard herself.
  • Happily Adopted: It's revealed that Solaris was adopted into the Crozzo family. Grateful for what they've done for her, Solaris works hard in order to be deserving of the family name.
  • The Leader: She's the Captain of the Hestia Familia, albeit its only member prior to Bell and Kojiro's arrival.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name "Solaris", refers to the sun, matching her family's connection to the fire spirit her ancestor received blood from.
  • Oblivious to Love: She misinterprets Bell's panic as being scared on having blood doused over him but Ryuu informs her that is isn't, aware that Bell ran away from Ais.
  • Original Character: Welf never mentioned having a sister in-canon and his relationship with his family is strained at best, so Solaris is an original creation.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Solaris feels increasingly overshadowed by the other members of the Hestia Familia as time goes on. Bell and Kojiro's growth rate is explosive compared to hers, and while she tries to keep a stiff upper lip, she's clearly distraught over being so outclassed. The feeling become especially strong when Bell and Kojiro reach Level 2 in a month and a half and a month respectively when it took her two years of effort. Then Haruhime joins up as a Level 2 right off the bat due to her training with Hachiman.
  • Playing with Fire: She refers to herself as a "Child of Flame", and her super short chant magic, Inferno, unleashes a powerful beam of flame that completely reduces killer ants to ash. Unfortunately, it uses her spear as a medium, and it's usually turned to charcoal when she's done with it.
  • Red Baron: "Flamma".
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Solaris sarcastically calls Kojiro a "rare species" for his unusually high growth rate, briefly surprising him before realizing that she was just making a joke and wasn't actually onto his history as a Servant.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Unfortunately for Solaris, her magic doesn't come with Required Secondary Power that protects her weapon after it's been lit on fire. As a result, her spears tend to be left in pieces at best by the time she's done.

    Sakamoto Haruhime

Haruhime

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sanjouno_haruhime.jpg

The daughter of an influential nobleman and a member of the rare renard race. She finds herself the target of a kidnapping plot designed to destabilize the Far East. She's later disowned for wanting to leave home and taken in by the Sakamotos and Hachiman, who allow her to leave the Far East with Yakemikazuchi to join Bell and the Hestia Familia.

  • Abusive Parents: Her father is overly controlling, denying her any opportunity to step outside the family estate. When Haruhime expresses a desire to leave her home to one day stand alongside Bell, her father casts her out rather than respect her wishes. Her mother does nothing to stop him.
  • Adaptational Badass: Due to being personally instructed by Hachiman, Ryoma, and Oryou, Haruhime has reached Level 2 by the time she arrives in Orario and possesses the Fist Strike skill, allowing her to take to the frontlines rather than being solely a Support Party Member.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Oryou calls Haruhime "Haru", which shows that she cares deeply about her personally rather than through obligation.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In canon, Aisha loves Haruhime like a sister to the point of crossing Ishtar and getting viciously punished to protect her. But since Haruhime was never kidnapped, they're total strangers here.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Thanks to Hachiman's tutelage, Haruhime learns to kill monsters with her bare fists, though she admits that she's still squeamish about it.
  • Damsel in Distress: Haruhime is the center of a plot by the Storm Faction to dishonor and get rid of her to remove the power imbalance her magic represents. Because of this, Bell, and by extension Kojiro, end up rushing to rescue her when she's kidnapped while hanging out with them.
  • Damsel out of Distress: Discussed. Haruhime tells Hachiman and Amaterasu that she no longer wants to be a defenseless princess, especially when the boy who fought to protect her didn't even have a falna. She implores Hachiman to train her so she may one day stand by his side.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Haruhime is said to have these when she's kidnapped because of how distraught she is.
  • Eye Scream: She loses an eye from fighting Filvis.
  • Gilded Cage: Haruhime is noble girl of high standing due to being born into the Sanjouno family. But she's constantly locked in her family's luxurious estate due to her importance as its heir and her powerful support spell in Uchide no Kozuchi. Bell is the first one to dare to try and sneak her out, much to her father's outrage and Amaterasu's amusement. She even refers to it as such while expressing her desire to become more than a defenseless princess.
  • Happily Adopted: Upon arriving in Orario, she introduces herself as Sakamoto Haruhime, as she was adopted by Ryoma and Oryou after her father disowned her.
  • I Will Find You: Haruhime explains to Hachiman that she wants to grow stronger and become an adventurer so she may one day stand by Bell's side in Orario. She makes good on this promise when she arrives in Orario with the Takemikazuchi Familia, joining the Hestia Familia as a Level 2 adventurer right off the bat.
  • MacGuffin Super-Person: Her powerful Meta Power Up spell threatens to destabilize the Far East's delicate power structure, thus Tsukuyomi plots to get rid of her.
  • Meta Power Up: Uchide no Kozuchi is a unique spell that can temporarily level up an adventurer, making them dramatically more powerful than they already were. This spell is the reason why Haruhime is so desired and feared, and her presence alone threatens the balance of power in the Far East, hence Susanoo's and Tsukuyomi's desire to be rid of her. That said, it's far from absolute, and Oryou easily defeats Araki after purposefully having Haruhime use it on him to give him a Hope Spot.
  • Only One Name: Having been disowned by her father, Haruhime replies that she's no longer "Young Sanjouno" when Amaterasu and Hachiman are about to address her. This ceases to be the case as she's adopted by Ryoma and Oryou.
  • Riches to Rags: Haruhime is part of the incredibly influential Sanjouno family that is at the center of politics in the Far East. But her independent streak and desire to leave her Gilded Cage and one day meet Bell again leads her father to cast her out and disown her, upon which she heads to Hachiman for both shelter and the opportunity to train and head to Orario.
  • Square Race, Round Class: The Ishtar Familia's Aisha points out that being a Bare-Fisted Monk doesn't suit a magically-powerful race like the Renard and mocks Haruhime for trying to be a frontline fighter. Kaguya notices this too, but doesn't have the heart to crush Haruhime's dream of standing on the front lines with Bell.
  • Training from Hell: Kaguya puts Haruhime through this so that she can learn to attack without hesitation.
  • Uptown Girl: Haruhime is this for Bell, a beautiful girl his age of noble status who falls in love with him after he rescues her from a grim fate as a slave to be sold to the highest bidder. In fact, her desire to one day stand by his side is so great that she renounces her noble title and gets disowned so she can become an adventurer.

Astraea Familia

    Astraea

Astraea

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/astraea_danmemo_1.jpg
Goddess of Justice

Goddess of justice and the founder of the Astraea Familia, one of four strongest familia in Orario along with Freya, Loki, and Ganesha.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Kind and serene as she might be, she gets irate when Hestia misspeaks and implies that Astraea doesn't love her familia like her own children, creeping everyone out with the dark aura behind her gentle words.
  • Comes Great Responsibility: The members of her familia are all extremely powerful, with a Level 4, three Level 6s, and one Level 7. However, the reason why Astraea has so few members is because the responsibility she places on their shoulders as self-proclaimed protectors of justice in Orario. Because of this, they face danger most other adventurers don't, including the members of Evilus. Stardust Garden's disproportionate size indicates that Astraea once had many more children, but they were likely killed in the line of duty.
  • Foil: To Hestia. Astraea is calm, regal, and serene in stark contrast to Hestia wearing her emotions on her sleeve and being openly affectionate. Astraea is also the one teaching Hestia the ins and outs of leading a familia, as shown by how differently they explain their situations to Bell. Astraea has everything to offer but prefers to take in only women, while Hestia has almost nothing to offer besides her own affection for her children.
  • God Is Good: Astraea is the goddess of justice, and as such, every member of her familia is devoted to stopping evil wherever they see it, taking up an impromptu peacekeeper role despite those matters being officially Ganesha's responsibility.
  • Lady Land: Astraea tells Bell and Kojiro that she only takes in female children, with the exception of the Starfall. Because of this, she instead refers them to Hestia, who is looking for more children and will be receptive to them.

    Alise Lovell

Alise Lovell

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alise_lovell.png
Scarlet Harnel

The captain of the Astraea Familia and the Level 6 adventurer known as "Scarlet Harnel".

  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Subverted. Although she's the Astraea Familia's captain, she's lower-leveled than the Starfall, who is Level 7.
  • Badass Creed: She makes the other members of the Astraea Familia recite one before going to bed every night. Bell thinks it's super cool, while the other female members groan at how hammy it is.
“Do what you must! Adjust the balance! Until the day we become stars! Leave a gleaming trail on this earth like a shooting star! I swear on the sword and wings of justice!"
  • Cool Big Sis: Alise is touched by Bell's sincere apology after he accidentally catches the members of the Astraea Familia stripping their clothes off, telling him to dry those tears and getting red to pull him in for a hug while calling herself a big sis. She's only stopped by Hestia pushing her away and Ryuu pulling her back.
  • Cuddle Bug: She sees nothing wrong with a little skinship after a long expedition in the dungeon and goes to touch her fellow familia members even though they don't want to.
  • The Leader: Alise is the captain of the Astraea Familia.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: She carelessly pokes Syr's breast to see if it has grown in the past seven years they've known each other.
  • Red Baron: "Scarlet Harnel".
  • Spared by the Adaptation: The Astraea Familia was never wiped out in this story, meaning that Alise survived the attack that killed her and the rest of her familia.

    Ryuu Lion

Ryuu Lion

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryuu_lion_adventurer_uniform.png
Royal Gale

A Level 6 adventurer in the Astraea Familia known as the "Royal Gale".

  • Adaptational Badass: Due to remaining an active adventurer under Astraea, Ryuu continued to grow and is now a Level 6 adventurer.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Since she isn't the last member of her Familia, she's much happier than in canon.
  • For Want Of A Nail: The Astraea Familia was never wiped out in this story. Because of this, Ryuu continued to adventure and grow, becoming a Level 6 adventurer in the process.
  • Hates Being Touched: Ryuu is fine with only four people touching her: Syr, Arash, Alise, and Bell. Her Familia quickly and easily realizes that the fact that she was fine with Bell touching her after only knowing him for a short amount of time means that she's in love with him, even if she won't admit it.
  • Not So Stoic: Despite looking cool and level headed, she gets easily flustered whenever her Familia members teases her.
  • Red Baron: "Royal Gale".
  • Tsundere: Ryuu is heavily in denial about her attraction to Bell, something her Familia loves to tease her about.

    Gojouno Kaguya

Gojouno Kaguya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gojouno_kaguya.png
Senbonzakura

An adventurer from the Far East and a Level 6 member of the Astraea Familia known as "Senbonzakura". Although she appears to be the epitome of grace and poise on the surface, she's actually much more coarse when push comes to shove.

  • Big Sister Instinct: Kaguya comes into Bell's defense when Bete starts picking on him.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Kaguya wants Haruhime to be able to defend herself without worrying about hurting her opponent. She does this by putting Haruhime through Training from Hell.
  • Dual Wielding: She wields two katanas in combat. She offers to give Bell some tips after seeing his own self-taught dual wielding style.
  • Handicapped Badass: It's normally hidden under her kimono, but her right arm is a silver prosthetic, having lost it in the attack that killed her in canon.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: She manages to drink Bete, another Level 6 adventurer, under the table as part of the fight she picks with him for mocking Bell, though she has a splitting headache afterward.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Wields two katanas in combat.
  • Last of Her Kind: She is the last of the Gojounos. This was unknown to her until Takemikazuchi Familia reveal it, much to her distress.
  • Neck Lift: Well, headlift. Kaguya grabs Solaris' head and lifts her into the air after the latter forgets to tell them about the new members of the Hestia Familia, giving Bell an eyeful of naked bodies of the Astraea Familia in the process.
  • Older Than They Look: The effects of falna have largely kept Kaguya looking the same as she did seven years ago. Bete calls her a hag for it. She bites back by calling him a brat.
  • Red Baron: "Senbonzakura".
  • Spared by the Adaptation: The Astraea Familia was never wiped out in this story, meaning that Kaguya survived the attack that killed her and the rest of her familia.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: She has the appearance of one, but interacting with her for any amount of time will quickly reveal her coarse and masculine side.

    Lyra
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lyra_danmachi.png

A Level 5 member of the Astraea Familia known as "Tiresias", Lyra is a spunky pallum with a thing for the Braver.

  • Blind People Wear Sunglasses: Lyra wears sunglasses and has to ask what Kojiro looks like, implying this. It is later revealed that where her eyes were is now scar tissue.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: She's implied to be blind in this story for unknown reasons, her vision is fine during the events of Astraea Record. This is later confirmed, with the reveal she doesn't have her eyes anymore.
  • Eye Scream: Taking off her sunglasses doesn't just reveal that she's blind, but that she has no eyes anymore. The narration describes it as though they'd been burnt out with acid, with only scar tissue where they once were.
  • Friendly Rivalry: With Tione as both are aiming for Finn's affections.
  • Handicapped Badass: She's heavily implied to be blind in her first appearances, given that she wears sunglasses indoors and has to ask the others what Kojiro looks like. Despite this, she recently became a Level 5 Adventurer. Later confirmed, with scar tissue where her eyes should be.
  • Hobbits: She's a pallum, the DanMachi world's equivalent of this as short demihumans with child-like appearances.
  • Meaningful Name: Her alias, "Tiresias", refers to the blind seer who revealed that King Oedipus is the one who killed his biological father. Lyra is blinded by her experiences in the Dungeon, and her taking off her glasses reveals to Bell the dangers and horrors he will experience in its depths.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Due to being blind, she has a habit of feeling up other people to get an idea of what they look like. She does this to Finn in particular because of her infatuation with him.
  • Only One Name: Unlike her compatriots, she lacks a surname.
  • Red Baron: "Tiresias".
  • Spared by the Adaptation: The Astraea Familia was never wiped out in this story, meaning that Lyra survived the attack that killed her and the rest of her familia.

    The Starfall

Arash Kamangir

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/archerarashgostage1.png
The Starfall

An incarnated Servant and the newest and only male member of the Astraea Familia. In life, he was one of the greatest heroes of what is now modern day Iran, renowned for his incredible archery and for giving his life to draw a border that ended a war. He's one of two Level 7s active in Orario, having broken the record for fastest level up by doing it in three months.

  • Beware the Nice Ones:
    • Arash is a friendly, upbeat guy who defends peace in Orario along with the rest of the Astraea Familia. But he's also more than willing to get his hands dirty in the name of protecting others, and even a Level 5 Adventurer like Phryne fears him as an unrelenting killing machine on the battlefield.
    • Played for Laughs when Arash renacts his famous Arash Airlines scene by flinging Lyra and the Hestia Familia to Melen. Bell had taken Arash as the sole "normal" comrade of Kojiro's along with Ryoma, but realizes that Arash is just as much of a maniac with this stunt.
  • Boring, but Practical: Arash didn't get his first level up by defeating a Monster Rex or anything on his own. He just mowed down so many monsters all day every day until the falna gave up and granted him his level up.
  • Bottomless Magazines: His Mystery skill lets him created arrows by spending Mind. Because of this, so long as he still has energy to spare, he'll never run out of arrows in his quiver.
  • Catapult to Glory: Arash Airlines returns when Lyra laments over the Loki Familia taking a trip to Melen while the Astraea Familia is on expedition. There's a large rock in the Astraea Familia's courtyard for everyone to tie themselves to so he can shoot it like an arrow at his destination, sending Lyra and the Hestia Familia all the way to Melen in a few minutes when it takes two days of normal travel to get there. He does give them helmets to protect their heads, but warns them not to loosen the ropes or do anything that would divert the arrow's path.
  • Chaste Hero: Side comments from the other members of the Astraea Familia reveal that the girls initially had concerns about having him join them as the only male in a formerly all-female familia. Those concerns are put to rest when he shows no interest at all in any of them, with Kaguya commenting that he has the libido of a rock.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: His Noble Phantasm, Stella, has been converted into a sacrificial spell. It's latter confirmed to have the ability to deal massive damage across a wide area at the cost of Arash's own life, just like the original Noble Phantasm. Kaguya's thoughts on Stella revealed that Astraea herself forbid him from using it and hid its existence from her official reports.
It was quite shocking, to find out about that part of his Falna. It was the first time she saw Ryuu ever so horrified before. Same as everyone else. After all, magic represented the ideal of fantasy within one’s mind. A dream, a goal, something along those lines. So the fact that Arash’s spell required him to die had concerning implications to say the least. Astraea naturally forbid the usage of that spell and hid it away from official reports immediately. And yet…Arash was utterly calm about it. Making a promise that he would not use it unless necessary.
He would not budge on the necessary part until this day. Not even when Ryuu begged him to never use it. Not even when she cried. Not even then.
  • Friendly Sniper: Arash is an obscenely good marksman and is considered the greatest archer in the world. He's also a down-to-earth, caring guy who'd much prefer drinking a beer with someone than putting an arrow in their head.
  • Healing Shiv: Arash possesses the Mystery skill, allowing him to craft magic items. He uses this in tandem with his Bow and Arrow Creation to create arrows tipped with antidotes that he stabs and shoots into people to heal them. According to him, his own blood is a component.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: Most of the time, Arash holds back because the force of his arrows is enough to blast a building to pieces. When he gets serious, his arrows are flung so hard that it sounds like thunder every time he releases the string, and Ishtar compares the destructive potential of any of his arrows to one of Riveria's spells.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: He has to stop to do the math, but he can launch the Hestia Familia (tied to a large rock) all the way to another city two days travel away from the Stardust Garden's courtyard. The absurdity of this is lampshaded by everyone involved.
  • Improbable Use of a Weapon: Arash can use his bow as a bludgeon in a pinch, working to frightening effect along with his raw Super-Strength and Super-Toughness. He even beats back Ishtar's Demi-Spirit Gugalanna. Beats a Juggernaut that destroyed the majority of the Astraea Familia. As well as fought Artoria with his bow when arrows weren't working.
  • Master Archer: Arash's surname literally means "the archer", and he's one of the most famous heroes of Western Asia. Riveria also goes to him for help with her bow when something is off. He's so good at it that he makes being an archer work in the Dungeon despite the many downsides (i.e. ammo, maintaining the bow, constant close-quarters combat) that would normally render it impractical.
  • More Dakka: Arash flings arrows at such speeds that his hand is practically invisible when he's drawing and firing his bow.
  • Nice Guy: He's a friendly and jovial fellow, quickly taking Kojiro's handshake and pulling him in for a hug.
  • The One Guy: He's the sole male member of the Astraea Familia.
  • One-Man Army: Arash accomplished his first level up by mowing down so many monsters over the course of three months that the falna gave up and leveled him up. He also takes on Ishtar's Bull of Heaven, a powerful Demi-Spirit created by Evilus to serve as an ace-in-the-hole against the Freya Familia, and kills it single-handedly when it took the entire Loki Familia working together to take it down in Knossos. It's also revealed in the sidestory Justice Lost that he took on the Juggernaut after it had killed most of the Astrea Familia. And while he couldn't use his arrows the fight was so one sided with him beating the creature to death with his bow that by the end of it the Juggernaut literally didn't have a leg to stand on.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: A serious Arash is feared as someone who could reduce a city to rubble in minutes or wipe out an entire army with his arrows.
  • Red Baron "Starfall".
  • The Rival: He has a reputation as Ottar's sole rival as the only other Level 7 in Orario.
  • Suicide Attack: Arash's ultimate arrow shot, Stella, boasts absolutely obscene firepower and can draw borders for an entire country. But it would certainly kill him if he attempted it.
  • Super-Strength: Despite his preference for long-range combat, he's strong enough to take Ishtar's Bull of Heaven head-on and beat it into submission with his bow and bare hands.
  • Super-Toughness: He's so tough that the Bad Bats on the 12th floor could chew at him for a hundred years and never break his skin. Ishtar's Gugalanna doesn't even faze him even after it charges at him while sending lightning coursing through his body.
  • These Hands Have Killed: Arash notes that he's killed plenty of people in the past, owing to his previous life as well as his peacekeeping duties as a member of the Astraea Familia. He cites this as a reason why it can't be Kojiro's bloodstained hands that's repulsing Syr.
  • Trick Arrow: Arash's Mystery skill allows him to create Magic Items on his own. Combined with his existing skill at making arrows, he can imbue his arrows with a variety of effects, allowing them to heal others, imbue them with elemental effects, and even make them teleport.
  • World's Strongest Man: He's considered the one and only rival of Ottar, the Level 7 captain of the Freya Familia. In his first life, he was also considered the greatest hero and warrior of Western Asia.

Far East

    Sakamoto Ryoma

Sakamoto Ryoma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryoma_sakamoto_fate.png
Peacemaker

An incarnated Servant, Ryoma was the "father" of the Imperial Japanese Navy and an influential figure in the Bakumatsu period prior to his assassination. In the present, he's a member of the Amaterasu Familia along with his wife, Oryou, keeping the peace and preventing Civil War between the Far East's factions.

  • Ambadassador: Ryoma is known as Peacemaker for mediating between the various factions in the Far East and is a formidable fighter in his own right, even if he isn't quite as strong as his wife. His works of diplomacy have mostly defused the tensions between the Storm, Neutral, and Sun factions, though it came at the cost of convincing Susanoo to be fearful of outsiders while Tsukuyomi continues to plot behind the scenes.
  • Babies Ever After: After Bell and Kojiro leave the Far East, Ryoma manages to have a son with Oryou, Sakamoto Ohma.
  • Battle Couple: Ryoma and Oryou are this, even more so now that they're both human and can, er, consummate their relationship, along with Oryou taking Ryoma's last name. This is emphasized by a skill they both have, Lover’s Bond, which Increases parameters when fighting alongside one’s lover.
  • Do Not Call Me Sir: Ryoma asks Bell to just call him by his name rather than by any title like "mister" or "sir".
  • Famed In-Story: Ryoma is a Level 4 adventurer of the Amaterasu Familia, making him an elite second-class adventurer as well as a mediator between the factions. His wife, Oryou, is even more powerful, a Level 6 adventurer on par with the strongest adventurers from the Loki and Freya Familia.
  • Fedora of Asskicking: Albeit somewhat out of place in the Far East.
  • Fights Like a Normal: Ryoma's stat sheet reveals that he has no magic or particularly special skills, leaving him to fight with only his swordsmanship.
  • Good Wears White: Ryoma is a famed adventurer dressed entirely in white as well as a crucial peacekeeper in the turbulent Far East.
  • Magnetic Hero: Ryoma's smooth-talking Nice Guy personality makes him an able mediator between the various factions of the Far East, defusing a potential Civil War before it could start, with only Haruhime's kidnapping coming close to reigniting it.
  • Martial Pacifist: Ryoma would much rather talk things out than fight, but he's still a Level 4 Adventurer, making him a certified elite whom Bell considers to be like a war hero.
  • Master Swordsman: Ryoma is a master of the Hokushin Ittoryu school of swordsmanship, though he doesn't hold a candle to Kojiro and loses his duel to Araki.
  • Nice Guy: Ryoma is a good man who'd like nothing more than for everyone to be happy. To this end, he and Oryou do their best to defuse tensions and keep the peace in the Far East.
  • Parental Substitute: Ryoma and Oryou adopt Haruhime after she's disowned by her father.
  • Red Baron: "Peacemaker".
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Always walks around in an impeccable white uniform.

    Sakamoto Oryou

Sakamoto Oryou

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oryou_fate.png
Dragon Serpent of the Far East

An incarnated Servant and Ryoma's lover, Oryou was originally a mizuchi, a powerful serpent one step below dragonkind, who followed Ryoma home after he freed her from the spear that was sealing her without expectation of reward. She is currently a member of the Amaterasu Familia and the strongest adventurer of the Far East.

  • Babies Ever After: Following Bell and Kojiro's departure from the Far East at some point in time, Oryou and Ryoma conceived a child together, Sakamoto Ohma.
  • Battle Couple: She shares a skill with Ryoma, Lover's Bond, that raises her stats when she's fighting alongside him.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Oryou is the most powerful force in the Far East, easily defeating a Level 5 adventurer with brute force alone. She's also spacey, obsessed with eating frogs, and violently protective of her husband. When Bell calls her a wise woman for her Right Makes Might philosophy, Haruhime has to suppress the urge to snark otherwise.
  • Death Glare: Oryou flashes this at Araki for injuring Ryoma, and the Killing Intent everyone feels from it is suffocating and even hardened adventurers pale at the sight of her rage.
  • The Dreaded: Oryou is feared as the "Mizuchi", the "Dragon Serpent of the Far East" and its mightiest adventurer. It's said that when she's angry, she could rouse storms and ruin mountains with a wave of her hand. Given her true serpent form, this is not an exaggeration. The fact that she's under Amaterasu's employ makes her the nuclear deterrent to outright Civil War, as she can easily crush any single adventurer from the other factions.
  • Famed In-Story: Oryou is one of four adventurers in the world said to be on par with or even surpassing Orario's best. The others are "The Legiones" Romulus-Quirinus, "The Radiance" Artoria Pendragon, and "The Asura" Penthesilea Themyscira.
  • Giver of Lame Names: She's initially wants to name her son with Ryoma "Oryouma". Luckily, Ryoma manages to talk her into giving him the far more palatable "Ohma".
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: Although Ryoma is the one injured with cuts and bruises, Oryou is the one to overreact, flying into a murderous rage at Araki for leaving Ryoma with bruises and gashes on his face.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: Ryoma is a formidable Level 4 Adventurer and a Master Swordsman, but he's small pickings compared to his companion and lover Oryou, who is feared as the Level 6 Mizuchi.
  • Pregnancy Makes You Crazy: When Kojiro inquires to the Takemikazuchi Familia about if Oryou had mood swings when she got pregnant, their faces contort to absolute horror, hinting that not only that she had but it was a traumatizing event for them.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Oryou has pale skin and long, flowing black hair. While she'd be beautiful at any other time, this, along with her red eyes makes her downright horrifying when she's truly angry.
  • Red Baron: "Mizuchi" and "Dragon Serpent of the Far East".
  • Right Makes Might: According to Haruhime, Oryou says that that this is the reason for her and Ryoma's strength. Even if he desires peace, it's meaningless unless they have the strength to protect it.
  • Scaled Up: The magic spell Oryou is using when she confronts Araki is returning her to her true form as the Serpent of Takachiho, but Ryoma stops her and calms her down before she lays waste to the entire city.
  • Third-Person Person: Oryou frequently speaks in the third person, referring to herself as "Oryou" and proudly presenting Haruhime to Bell as "Oryou Special Delivery".
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Oryou's is whole frogs, to the point that Ryoma believes that the local frog population has gone extinct thanks to her.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Thanks to her absurd strength and defense, Oryou has no need for martial technique when she can crush nearly anything in a flurry of punches. The only reason why a temporarily leveled up Araki is able to survive against her is because of his martial skill, and when she stops holding back she quickly makes a crater in his face.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Oryou is deeply in love with Ryoma and has deep-seated trauma over failing to protect him in life. Because of this, she flies into an Unstoppable Rage when he discovers that he's been injured in her absence, and would have returned to her original form and slaughtered everyone present had he not calmed her down in time.
  • The Worf Effect: The pressure and fear produced by Oryou's Killing Intent is Bell's first experience of the power of a first-class adventurer. After this, it's used as a measuring stick when Bell meets her former compatriots from Chaldea, with the Legiones and Radiance producing even more pressure than Oryou does.

    Amaterasu

Amaterasu

A goddess of the sun and the leader of the Sun Faction, consisting of individuals who wish to open the Far East to the outside world in hopes of spreading peace and prosperity. Ryoma and Oryou are members of her familia.
  • Fun Personified: Amaterasu is this. She's described as warm and cuddly and constantly radiates warmth wherever she goes. She leads the Sun Faction, which wants the Far East to open its borders, support the weak, and spread happiness throughout the world. She's also doting and friendly toward Haruhime, insisting that she be liberated from her noble duties and be allowed to have fun as a child for once.
  • Immortal Immaturity: Amaterasu's fun-loving and tomboyish personality comes in stark contrast to the position she holds in real mythology as the highest god in Shinto mythology. She hates courtly etiquette and often speaks far more casually than she should, and she's so enraged when Haruhime's father disowns her that Amaterasu rolls up her sleeves and prepares to beat the crap out of him for it.
  • Light Is Good: Amaterasu lives and breathes this trope. She's a sun goddess, warm, motherly, peace-seeking, and fun-loving. She's the most unambiguously good god in the Far East, and she instantly offers Bell a chance to get a falna on the spot, no questions asked.
  • Original Character: No familia in the Far East was ever mentioned, so Amaterasu is an original creation for this story.

    Hachiman

Hachiman

A war god and the leader of the Neutral Faction, consisting of people who seek to improve their martial skills without regard for expansion or isolation.

  • God Is Neutral: He and his faction don't see a particular reason to get involved in the conflict between the Sun and Storm Factions, though he does have a soft spot for Haruhime and clearly spends more time with Amaterasu than Susanoo and Tsukuyomi.
  • Old Master: Hachiman exudes this feeling despite being eternally youthful as a god. His Divine Arms techniques are the envy of everyone in the Far East as the pinnacle of martial arts, leading others to join his familia in pursuit of them.
  • Original Character: No familia in the Far East was ever mentioned, so Hachiman is an original creation for this story.

    Susanoo

Susanoo

A god of storms and the leader of the Storm Faction, which seeks to isolate the Far East and turn it into a warrior's country where the strongest rule.

  • Jerkass God: Susanoo, who'd like to see the Far East turned into something resembling Telskyura, an isolationist country where people fought and killed each other to produce the strongest warriors. Despite this, he is also A Father to His Men, which is why he hasn't escalated into outright Civil War yet.
  • Noble Bigot: Susanoo fears outsiders and wants to turn the Far East into a warrior state where only the strong survive, but this is because he genuinely believes that it will produce a stronger country. He also cares deeply for his own children and is outraged when one of his own children is involved in Haruhime's kidnapping, as it could have easily sparked a Civil War.
  • Original Character: No familia in the Far East was ever mentioned, so Susanoo is an original creation for this story.

    Tsukuyomi

Tsukuyomi

A goddess of the moon and a member of the Storm Faction. While Susanoo is loud and full of bluster, Tsukuyomi quietly plots behind the scenes.

  • Jerkass God: Tsukuyomi's obsession with order is so strong that she wants to get rid of Amaterasu, and by extension Oryou, for harboring Haruhime and threatening the power balance of the Far East.
  • Original Character: No familia in the Far East was ever mentioned, so Tsukuyomi is an original creation for this story.

Rakia

    The Legiones

Romulus Quirinus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lancerromulusquirinusstage1.png
The Legiones

An incarnated Servant who was once the divine founder and supreme god of Rome. He is Rakia's mightiest adventurer and its military leader in its conquests of the world.

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Unlike most adventurers, Romulus does not carry weapons, implying that he takes on monsters and adventurers like with nothing but his fists. Given his Nine Lives Roma Style skill, Romulus might not need anything else.
  • Composite Character: This version of Romulus Quirinus has the appearance of his godly visage and the personality of his human form. The author says that this is because being incarnated as a human restored his original, Patriotic Fervor and Large Ham personality, which got cooled off considerably after he was deified.
  • Declaration of Protection: Much to the shock of his own soldiers, Romulus declares that Bell and Kojiro are under his protection during their stay in Rakia, handing them a special gold coin as proof of this. While grateful for the honor, the same coin feels like a leaden weight in Bell's hands because of how it simultaneously paints a target on his back.
  • Do Not Call Me Sir: Kojiro not refer to him by his title or alias, but simply by his name.
  • Frontline General: He's the Imperial Legate and effective commander of all of Rakia's armed forces. In fact, most of his skills involve boosting his own performance and that of his allies in massive battles between armies.
  • A Hero to His Hometown: Romulus is Rakia's national hero and great leader in its attempts to conquer more and more territory. He's revered as a kind and powerful figure able to inspire Patriotic Fervor even in Welf, who left Rakia in canon because of his disgust for his family and the country. By the end of Bell's stay in Rakia, it becomes painfully clear to him that Romulus' heroic status in Rakia is fueled by the spoils he brings back, including slaves. Romulus' genuine belief that his actions are for the betterment of mankind as Rakia's hero shakes Bell's idea of what a hero actually is.
  • Large and in Charge: Romulus is 190 cm (6'2'') and the Imperial Legate of Rakia, making his word second only to the royal family's and Ares' while handling most of the day-to-day matters and commanding its regular conquests of nearby territories.
  • Large Ham: Romulus introduces himself with a booming voice that terrifies Bell, the birds, and even the plants, not simply walking into the scene but leaping into it with a thunderous crash.
  • Magnetic Hero: Romulus inspires intense loyalty from the soldiers of Rakia under his command, who all demonstrate the same Patriotic Fervor he does. Just hearing his voice sends shivers downs Bell's spine, and meeting him in person gives Bell the urge to prostrate himself in Romulus' presence. Even Welf, who hates Rakia in-canon, can't help but be moved by him. Kojiro lampshades it, saying that he has a way with words.
  • Make Me Wanna Shout: Romulus' voice rattles Bell's bones, sends birds flying away in terror, and makes even the grass shudder. This manifests in a skill of his, Voice of Roma, which greatly amplifies his voice to be heard across entire battlefields to up the mental strength of his allies.
  • Not So Invincible After All: Downplayed. Romulus is respected for his power and leadership ability as one of the four adventurers said to have conquered Orario's best. Despite this, he returns from his latest expeditions with his armor cracked and wounds all over his body, though he comes home victorious from his battles. Kojiro notes that he likely ran into another adventurer on his level, possibly a companion of his. He later reveals to Kojiro that The Asura was responsible, though he declines to use the Asura's real name, as it would "ruin the surprise".
  • Patriotic Fervor: Romulus demonstrates a proud and hammy love for his country, as do the soldiers under his command. It's only natural that Rome's Divine Founder would express his love for ROMA even as a soldier of Rakia.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Zigzagged. He has red eyes similarly to Bell and Oryou, but he's nothing but courteous and kind to those he respects. But to his enemies he might as well be a Monster Rex with how powerful he is.
  • Superpower Lottery: He has two wide-reaching area of effect spells that can affect entire armies, and his power grows in proportion to the number of allies fighting beside him. On top of this, his Nine Lives Roma Style skill means that he doesn't even need a weapon to kick ass.
  • Sympathetic Slave Owner: Romulus describes the people he captured for use as labor in Rakia as vassals rather than slaves. He also swears to Bell that they will not be used as tools and will instead be treated as individuals who will one day become part of Roma, albeit they have no real say in the matter. This does little to assuage Bell's misgivings, and Romulus accepts that Bell doesn't agree with his viewpoint and doesn't begrudge him for it.
  • Take Over the World: Romulus wants everyone under Rakia's banner, as only then can he lead the world to the stars as part of his beloved Rome.
  • The Worf Effect: Even without the same raw stats as the Radiance, Romulus' skills and magic make him a fearsome opponent for anyone, adventurer or monster, to face. The fact that he returns from his latest expedition with numerous injuries and cracked armor is shows that the Asura is not to be trifled with either, even though neither of them were trying to kill the other.

    Welf Crozzo

Welf Crozzo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/welf_crozzo.png

A member of the noble Crozzo family of blacksmiths with the ability to create Magic Swords. Welf has a close relationship with the Legiones, his patron, and hopes to one day create the finest weapons and armor.

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In-canon, Welf is Bell's Best Friend and a member of the Hestia Familia. But in this story, Welf stays in Rakia rather than following Bell to Orario due to the Legiones' patronage. Their relationship is also soured somewhat after discovering that Welf condones Romulus' "vassal" system, which is essentially enslaving people from other countries to force them to be part of Rakia.
  • Fiery Redhead: While he's easy-going most of the time, he's fiercely passionate about his blacksmithing and has flame-colored hair like his ancestor Crozzo.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Due to having the patronage and encouragement of the Legiones, Welf has not yet left for Orario and opens his door to Bell and Kojiro at the Imperial Legate's behest. He also gives Bell his Pyonkichi armor as a gift, long before Bell would have originally purchased it from him in Orario. Welf is also Level 2, which he attributes to experiences that probably cut his life short by several weeks.
  • Lethal Chef: Downplayed. Welf serves Bell and Kojiro a meal as guests invited by the Legiones. While they enjoy it just fine, Kojiro is notably unimpressed with Welf's tea, especially when compared to the tea he and Bell enjoyed in the Far East.
  • Minored in Ass-Kicking: While he's a smith first and foremost, Welf managed to get to Level 2 on his own, which is especially impressive given that Rakia lacks a Dungeon to go Level Grinding in.
  • Modest Royalty: Welf was born into Rakia's Crozzo family, which is famous for crafting magic swords for Rakia to use on its campaigns. But given the small house he lives in and his plain-looking clothes from the Far East, Bell doesn't pick up on this until Welf tells him.

Altena

    Odin

Odin

The God of Wisdom and the head of the Odin Familia, he and his Valkyries are the most powerful faction in Altena, both entertaining the masses and serving as its police force.

  • Aura Vision: Odin has the ability to perceive the souls of others and determine what color they are. He's eager to try to recruit Bell after seeing his completely pure soul, but he turns his nose up at Kojiro's, comparing looking at it to watching a rainbow while drunk and drowning, with so many twists and turns that it's nauseating. Odin apparently uses this ability quite a bit, which his own Valkyries consider disgusting and almost perverted as he's judging all of them by their souls, but it also makes him a nearly unrivaled talent scout.
  • Dirty Old Man: He has an Idol Singer fetish, making all of his female adventurers dress up in frilly dresses and uniforms while having them perform on stage for the masses. He's also weirdly eager to recruit Bell in hopes of making him the first crossdressing idol.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite his fetishes and eagerness to recruit Bell, he is neither a stalker nor a creep the way Freya or Apollo are. Despite his disappointment, Odin backs off when Bell declines his offer to join the Valkyries, though that doesn't stop the Valkyries themselves from metaphorically and literally trying to seduce Bell to their side.
  • Eyepatch of Power: As per his real life myth, Odin wears an eyepatch. It's also clear that he's a respected god within Altena, a nation known for having a large number of high-level adventurers.
  • I Owe You My Life: As thanks for Bell defending him, a complete stranger, during the terrorist attack at the Valkyries' concert, he offers Bell and Kojiro free stay at his familia's home and has Brunhilde and Hrist give them magic lessons.
  • Large and in Charge: Odin looms over Bell when standing upright and has to kneel down to get to Bell's eye level. He's also the head of one of the largest and most powerful familia in Altena.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: His fetishes aside, Odin is a wise and reasonable keeper of order in Altena. He has the Valkyries thoroughly investigate the attack on their concert, calls for aid from the Empire to expedite the process, and gives Bell and Kojiro the VIP treatment for defending him and others during the attack.

    Brunhilde

Brunhilde

The "Queen of the Valkyries" and the leader of Odin's elite female adventurers. While she projects a front of serenity and grace, she's actually extremely coarse and rude with a strong belief in humanity's potential over the other races.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Brunhilde tells Bell to call him "Brun" because they're going to be best friends. But this takes a somewhat sinister undertone as she tells him this while dragging him off to master his magic by making him use it over and over while forcing him to drink Mind Potions so he doesn't die.
  • Beneath the Mask: She and the rest of Odin's Valkyries are popular Idol Singers who capture the hearts of the people of Altena and beyond with their beauty, voices, and gentle personalities. Out of earshot, they're coarse, eager to beat the crap out of anyone who disturbs the peace, and sneer at those stupid enough to start a fuss at one of their concerts.
  • The Leader: Of the Valkyries.
  • Ms. Exposition: As part of the magic lessons Odin has her give Bell, she exposits a great deal on the different types of magic and the difficulty in creating entirely new congenital magic.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Despite her gentle, serene public persona, Brunhilde's true personality is coarse and gritty, swearing up a storm wherever she goes.

    Hrist

Hrist

Another member of the Valkyries, she gains a crush on Kojiro after he charms her on their first meeting.

The Empire

    The Radiance

Artoria Pendragon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saberartgostage2.png
The Radiance

An incarnated Servant, Artoria was once known as King Arthur of Britain, the legendary king who ruled for decades and defended the isles from invaders. She is a member of the Hades Familia as its strongest adventurer and the strongest adventurer of the Empire.

  • Anti-Mentor: Bell is initially excited to learn swordsmanship from her during his stay in Altena, but quickly realizes that she's an awful teacher despite being a true master of the sword. All of her lessons amount to her beating the crap out of him and punishing him for any opening he creates. But unlike Kojiro, she doesn't know how to hold back and cheerfully beats him unconscious. She's so caught up in nostalgia that she doesn't seem to notice the amount of distress Bell is in.
  • Berserk Button: She doesn't like Shirou. This is because she knows it's Angra Mainyu using Shirou's name.
  • Experience Booster: Artoria's King of Knights skill ups her excelia gain so long as she's fighting alongside her familia, allowing her to reach Level 7 in just 15 years and maxing all of her stats in the process.
  • Glacier Waif: She stands about as tall as Bell and doesn't look physically imposing, but she's monstrously strong and tough, able to take the blows of a Demi-Spirit without even flinching and hit back just as hard.
  • Gut Feeling: Artoria has a skill that improves her gut instinct to the level of a sixth sense, allowing her to get a feel for the best course of action. Kojiro says that if her instinct tells her to do something, it's wise to follow it.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's blond, and is a trustworthy and honorable person. She also helps out her friends and allies whenever possible.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Artoria is beautiful enough that Bell just stops to gape at her golden hair and emerald eyes long enough that people call him out for staring at her.
  • Master of All: All of Artoria's stats are maxed out as a Level 7 Adventurer. This is on top of having a ludicrously powerful attack spell, an incredibly strong barrier spell, the ability to expend Mind for a massive increase in her already impressive physical ability, and an Excelia booster that accelerates her growth even more. She has no glaring weaknesses and is a nigh-unstoppable juggernaut capable of taking down a Demi-Spirit on her own.
  • Master Swordswoman: While admittedly not on Kojiro's level, Artoria is also a master of the blade and eager takes up his offer for a Single-Stroke Battle and defeats him, albeit through brute force rather than superior technique with her broadsword.
  • Not So Above It All: The Radiance is apparently dead serious most of the time, and Lulu is in stitches when she realizes that her companion had bought a helmet just to play a prank.
  • Offhand Backhand: The Radiance does this to her companion Lulu after she starts rattling off her former aliases as the Shining Knight, Queen of the Sword, and Grand Saber.
  • One-Woman Army: Artoria is so powerful that even a facing army of violas with a Demi-Spirit in tow isn't enough to faze her, destroying them with ease between her swordsmanship and ridiculously strong magic.
  • Red Baron: "The Radiance". Her previous aliases included "Queen of the Sword", "Grand Saber", "Shining Knight", and what is implied to be "King of Knights", her original epithet from her Fate showings.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Like the other Servants, Artoria remembers her time at Chaldea even though it shouldn't be possible. However, she also clearly remembers her previous summonings, but also versions of her from different timelines. This is why she takes up Kojiro's challenge to her thanks to their rivalry on the Unlimited Blade Works route, but admits that her memories conflict and get jumbled up.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Bell is initially unsure of the Artoria's gender, as aside from the blue skirt-like cloth near the bottom, her figure and face were obscured by her armor and helmet. It takes Kojiro splitting that helmet in two to reveal her true gender as well as her true identity.
  • Sarcasm Failure: After giving a laundry list of orders to Brunhilde, the latter sarcastically asks if she wants some caviar with them. Artoria simply says yes and continues on even as Brunhilde yells after her, though this has less to do with Artoria not understanding sarcasm than simply not caring.
  • Strong and Skilled: Her stats are maxed out and she's almost as good a swordsman as Kojiro.
  • Superpower Lottery: Artoria is ludicrously overpowered. She has a skill similar to Liaris Freese that works so long as she's fighting alongside her familia on top of massively boosting their Endurance. She has three extremely powerful and useful magics in Excalibur (a Sword Beam that will obliterate even a Monster Rex), Avalon (an incredibly powerful Deflector Shield that also purges all negative effects), and Mana Burst (a chantless spell that expends Mind for a massive increase to Artoria's already monstrous stats). She also has eight Developmental Abilities through her Dragon Core Reactor skill, two of which are at an unheard of D Rank (for context, even Ottar's highest level skill is at E rank). It's little wonder that she's the Empire's strongest.
  • Sword Beam: Artoria's ultimate spell, Excalibur, is this, unleashing a massive beam of energy from her sword to annihilate anything in front of it. Rather than a spell to wipe out armies like a mage or a spell to turn the tide of a duel like Bell's Dragon Fang, it's specialized in completely destroying a single, enormous target. Bell thinks that even a Monster Rex wouldn't be able to stand up to the light of this spell.
  • World's Strongest Woman: Artoria is one of the mightiest adventurers alive and the Empire's strongest. Bell even refers to her as someone who stands at the top of the world.
  • You Remind Me of X: She tells Bell that his dream of becoming a hero reminds her of someone she knows well, obviously referring to her former Master, Shirou.

    Lusserina Luzumin

Lusserina Luzumin

The Empire's strongest mage and a member of Cerberus, one of Hades' three elite adventurers under the Radiance. Flighty and teasing, her silly demeanor belies her skills as a mage and combatant.

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Lusserina is the Empire's strongest mage and a member of Cerberus, Hades' three strongest adventurers after the Radiance. She also purposefully wears Stripperific clothing to get a rise out of people.
  • Expy: The Empire's strongest mage, Lusserina "Lulu" Luzumin, is recycled from one of the author's previous works.
  • Impossibly-Low Neckline: Lusserina's dress is described as leaving her shoulders as well as the upper part of her breasts completely bare.
  • Power of the Sun: Her magic, "Sol Corpus", implies this, as she attacks with beams of light.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Lusserina is both scantily-clad and The Tease, reveling in the looks she gets from others shocked to see an elf wearing so little.
  • Stripperific: Elves usually cover themselves up, only showing their bare skin besides their faces to those they truly respect and trust. Lusserina does not. Her dress has an Impossibly-Low Neckline that leaves her shoulders and the upper part of her chest bare and the only thing covering her thighs and hips are the books hanging at her waste and some purple panties.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Lusserina Luzumin is the Empire's strongest mage and is known as the "Witch of Flowers", much like Nasuverse Merlin's epithet as the "Magus of Flowers". She even specializes in support magic. It's little wonder that she's accompanying Artoria on their trip to Altena. Lampshaded by Kojiro, who asks if there's any relation between her and "him". The Radiance scoffs at this, calling her adorable next to "him".
  • The Tease: Lusserina purposefully wears Stripperific clothing to tease others stealing looks at her, winking at Bell and giving him a playful smirk when he catches him staring at her. She also pinches his cheeks while cooing about how cute he is, only stopping when her superior reminds Lusserina that she has a boyfriend at home. That said, she seems to be vulnerable to honesty, as when the Radiance calls her adorable, Lusserina finds herself blushing and speechless.

Orario

Loki Familia

    Loki

Loki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/loki_zenshin.png
Goddess of Trickery

Goddess of trickery and mischief as well as the head of the Loki Familia.

  • A-Cup Angst: Hestia's main leverage over Loki in their petty arguments is Loki's non-existent breasts, which Loki is quick to get mad about whenever Hestia brings them up.
  • Gender Flip: The story of Loki that Kojiro is more familiar with says Loki is male (most of the time).

    Aiz Wallenstein

Aiz Wallenstein

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aiz_wallenstein.png
Sword Princess

The "Sword Princess" and a Level 6 adventurer of the Loki Familia, making her one of the strongest adventurers in Orario. She comes to Bell's aid after accidentally chasing minotaurs up to the 12th floor.

  • The Ace: Her superior combat skills and pristine beauty is why people named her the Sword Princess.
  • Action Girl: As a Level 6 adventurer, she's one of the strongest adventurers in Orario and the world.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: After learning that Bell and Ryuu are going out on a "date", Aiz clenches her fists.
  • Dream Spying: Aiz has dreams that shows her the POV of the monster that is killing adventurers in Rivira.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: She's considered breathtakingly beautiful by gods and mortals alike, adding to the "Princess" part of her alias. Even though Bell is able to quickly write off the Radiance as being way out of his league, he's instantly infatuated with Aiz when he first lays eyes on her.
  • Locked into Strangeness: After the fight with Hessian Lobo, Aiz finds that her hair is starting to turn white, starting at the tips.
  • Master Swordsman: True to her alias, Aiz is a master swordswoman able to cut up countless monsters with Desperate. Her reputation for her skill is so well-known that Kojiro wants to pick a fight with her in the middle of his and Bell's welcoming party, to the latter's dismay.
  • Red Baron: Her alias is Sword Princess. Her alias changes to Wind Princess after the War Game, in recognition of Kojiro's absolute superiority as a swordsman.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Kojiro notes that her swordsmanship is specialized against monsters. Against a thinking opponent, something/someone that can use skills and tactics, she would lose if she couldn't overpower them.

    Finn Deimne

Finn Deimne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fynn_deimne.png
Braver

The captain of the Loki Familia and a Level 6 adventurer known as the Braver, making him one of Orario's strongest and most famous adventurers.

  • The Berserker: Finn can use a spell to drive himself into a rage and increase his stats. However, this doesn't diminish his skills whatsoever.
  • Chick Magnet: Finn has girls vying for his affections left and right. Tione and Lyra get into a catfight over who should be allowed to love him.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: His name and likeness is mentioned as part of the plays Bell watches in Rakia, though even a Country Mouse like him would know that the Braver is anything but a sniveling coward.
  • The Leader: He's the captain of the Loki Familia, making him its leader in its field operations on top of handling much of the paperwork.
  • Nerves of Steel: Finn got the alias "Braver" because of his unshakable composure even in the worst of crises, which is what made him the captain of the Loki Familia.
  • Weapon Specialization: He's famous in Orario for his spearmanship on top of possessing a skill that further increases his abilities with one in hand. So much so that when Bell and Ryuu are confronted by a short, blonde-haired warrior with a spear, they instantly think Finn is attacking them.

    Bete Louga

Bete Louga

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bete_louga.png
Vanargand

A Level 6 adventurer of the Loki Familia known as "Vanargand".

  • Bullying the Dragon: Bete challenges Kaguya to a drinking contest after she insults him for insulting Bell. He ends up losing.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: The normally apathetic Bete was enraged at Hans and kicked him in the face when the author made Lefiya cry.
  • Little Bit Beastly: He's a werewolf, giving him wolf ears.
  • Mythical Motifs: He's a silver-haired werewolf with the alias "Vanargand" and a member of the Loki Familia. All of these things refer to the mythical Loki's child, Fenris, which was Bete's previous alias.

    Tione Hiryute

Tione Hiryute

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tione.png
Jormungand

A Level 6 adventurer of the Loki Familia known as "Jormungand".

    Tiona Hiryute

Tiona Hiryute

A Level 6 adventurer of the Loki Familia known as "Amazon".
  • An Arm and a Leg: She loses both of her legs to Hessian Lobo.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Tiona figures out that Hans' new book, "White Fool", is actually about Bell Cranel after finding too much similarities between the book's character's exploits and Bell's.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Tiona loves reading stories about heroes, which is the reason she came to Orario in the first place.
  • Stepford Smiler: She smiles even after losing both of her legs, but it's clear that this is a front.

    Lefiya Virdis

Lefiya Viridis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/25b0d51f211a5c715753e9b66661f5ae.jpg
Thousand Elf

A Level 3 adventurer of the Loki Familia known as "Thousand Elf".

  • Green-Eyed Monster: Like her canon counterpart, Lefiya dislikes Bell for being very close to Ais. She even tries to harm him under the guise of training him.
    • She also later reveals that she's jealous of how quickly Bell is improving, when he's more of a rookie than she is.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: Lefiya's reduced to a crying mess after Hans mercilessly criticizes her.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: She despises Bell's method for learning magic, as it overturns all of the hard work she put in to cultivate her own magical abilities. As a result, she's hostile to him from the start, and it only gets worse after she and Filvis are sent tumbling down the waterfall on the 20th floor and are forced to fight together with him.

Freya Familia

    Freya

Freya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/freya_danmachi.png
Goddess of Beauty

A goddess of beauty and the founder of the Freya Familia, one of the two strongest familia in Orario next to the Loki Familia.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Due to having Hans constantly rein her in, Freya doesn't go through with some of her more questionable ideas, like siccing a silverback on Bell and Hestia or training a minotaur to attack him, both of which would have killed Bell due to him lacking Liaris Freese to boost his growth along.
  • Aura Vision: Like Odin, Freya is able to see the color of others' souls, making her a nearly unrivaled talent scout. She has her eyes set on Bell because of his pure soul, only it's been muddled by his feelings of doubt and inferiority from living in Kojiro's shadow.
  • I Love You Because I Can't Control You: Freya respects Hans for his willingness to call her out on her plots and schemes even with the rest of her familia breathing down his neck. But according to him, she's aroused by the idea that someone will talk back to her for once.
  • It Amused Me: While all the gods descended to escape the monotony of the divine bureaucracy, this is Freya's motivation for pretty much anything and everything. She's bored with being showered with the finest luxuries and wants to be challenged, surprised, and entertained. This is the reason for her various flings where she stalks someone who catches her fancy and turns them into an elite adventurer until she gets bored of their presence and looks for someone else to occupy her time.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Once she's depicted in-person, she doesn't bother to hide to Hans that she's in fact Syr, using a mortal guise in an attempt to get close to adventurers she's interested in like Bell.
  • Mystical White Hair: She has long, flowing white hair and is the peerless goddess of love and beauty.
  • Stalker with a Crush: She's enraptured by Bell's pure soul and watches him from afar while hoping to one day take him as her own.
  • The Tease: She's prone to flirting with others to watch their reactions, and her own children are devoted to receiving as much of her affection as they can. Only Hans and Ottar are resistant enough to her charms to actually speak out against her.
  • Theme Naming: She tends to push for her children's aliases to be references to Norse Mythology. Hans, for instance, is known as "Mimir", wisest of the Aesir.
  • World's Most Beautiful Woman: Even among the Inhumanly Beautiful Race of gods, Freya is considered head and shoulders above them as the goddess of beauty.

    Ottar

Ottar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ottar_zenshin.png
King

One of the two Level 7 Adventurers in Orario and a member of the Freya Familia, Ottar is known throughout the world as the "King" for his incredible might as the best Orario has to offer.

  • Little Bit Beastly: He's a boaz, giving him pig-like ears.
  • Odd Friendship: Ottar, the person who is most loyal to Freya, is friends with Hans, the sole member of the familia that defies, contradicts, and lambasts the goddess.
  • Red Baron: The "King", for being the strongest adventurer in Orario.
  • Scars Are Forever: Ottar has scratch scars on his face, a reminder of his fight with Asura.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Freya.
  • World's Strongest Man: He's the strongest adventurer in Orario by a longshot, with the Starfall as his only peer.

    Hans Christian Andersen

Hans Christian Andersen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/casterhansgostage3.png
Mimir

An incarnated Servant who was once a beloved writer of children's fairy tales such as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Little Match Girl" that gained international renown and acclaim. He is currently a member of the Freya Familia known as "Mimir".

  • Adaptational Badass: Hans is notably stronger as a mortal adventurer than a Servant, as he's able to put Kojiro's hand in an iron grip and is a Level 3 adventurer. Compare this to him as a Servant, who freely admits that he's third-rate and can't defend himself for the life of him. He also drags Freya around like a ragdoll.
  • The Alcoholic: He made a deal with Soma for an endless supply of free booze in exchange for free copies of Hans' latest works.
  • Anachronism Stew: He still wears a modern day lab coat in Orario despite the mostly medieval and steampunk-esque setting.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: He's a brilliant author and observer of the human psyche, able to quickly deduce everything about a person's personality after spending a few seconds observing them. But he also hates deadlines and considers a vacation spanning several weeks to be practically nothing.
  • Brutal Honesty: Hans will say his mind no matter the consequences or the cost. He won't hesitate to flip off even a goddess like Freya, calling her a "bitch" and a "slut" to Bell's surprise and alarm. He also quickly rattles off Bell's own personal flaws to him after meeting him and skimming through his diary.
  • Deadpan Snarker: All of his lines drip with snark, whether it's comparing himself to "the damn fairy godmother" for trying to give Freya a proper moral compass or calling Kojiro a "murderhobo" for his Blood Knight antics.
  • Declaration of Protection: Hans is disgusted with Freya's attempts to mold Bell into the perfect adventurer, threatening to send her back to heaven himself if she tries this again.
  • Famed In-Story: He's famed as "Mimir", a Level 3 adventurer. Though he's more famous for his critiques of others, drawing a small crowd when passerby notice that he's about to dissect Bell's history and personality. His books are also a hit even within a City of Adventure like Orario, earning him praise and admiration while he's walking the streets. Hestia even calls him "the greatest author of the current age".
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: He's considered this in the Freya Familia, as his scathing critiques of Freya draw the ire of the rest of the familia, and the only reason he's still alive is because Freya doesn't mind. Despite this, Hans notes that Ottar seems to treat him like a friend, for some reason.
  • Hobbits: To his chagrin, he's been incarnated as a pallum rather than a human, resulting in him retaining his diminutive height (though he's quite tall for a pallum).
  • Has a Type: He likes his protagonists to be naïve, moral, pure-hearted girls with big dreams and the drive to achieve them. He even says that Bell would have been one of the main characters of his books had he been a girl.
  • Humanity Ensues: Unlike the others, Hans' diminutive height implies that he was incarnated as a pallum instead of a human.
  • In Vino Veritas: Invoked. Hans has Bell drink some of Soma's wine (not the strongest, most addictive stuff) to get him to spill honestly about his experiences in the Dungeon for the book Hans is writing about him. Arash admonishes Hans for exploiting Bell like this, so Hans decides to wrap things up there and gets Bell to go to sleep.
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: Inverted. He tells two people who give him a friendly greeting to piss off, while telling a third person who says they loved his books, "Much obliged."
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Hans is cantankerous, lazy, and incredibly rude to everyone, never bothering to hold his tongue for anyone. Despite this, he genuinely likes people despite what his behavior would suggest, and his biting criticisms of others always have helpful advice woven in to help them grow. Because of this, he's fairly popular with the citizens of Orario even as he tells them to piss off when they say hi to him (he does thank them for liking his work though).
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: As an author, he's well-aware of all of the literary tropes and gives a mere barebones description of Orario's landmarks as a "generic fantasy setting" while dismissing the rest as "optional stuff readers wouldn’t care about". He also lambastes Freya for forcing a "stupid plot development" in an attempt to purify Bell's soul.
  • Meaningful Name: His alias, "Mimir", refers to the wisest of the Aesir, whose head was chopped off by Odin's enemies and later preserved with herbs so Odin could seek his council. Hans is a bit of a jerk, but he's always spot on with his observations of humans and gods alike. His tongue may be sharp, but his intentions are always good.
  • Morality Chain: Hans has resolved to be this for Freya, curbing her worst impulses with his harsh criticism to turn "a goddess of love into a real girl". He's able to stop her from siccing a Silverback on Bell and Hestia and admonishes her for actually taking his comment about training a minotaur for Bell to fight seriously.
  • Mr. Exposition: Subverted. Kojiro makes Hans give him and Bell a tour of Orario, but Hans isn't having it and only puts the barest amount of effort into describing the locales. He does go in-depth when talking about Bell's personality though.
  • Nerves of Steel: Nothing will make him hold his tongue. Even the threat of being torn limb from limb by the other members of the Freya Familia for his critique of Freya's actions won't stop him from saying what he wants to say. His raw chutzpah amuses Freya enough to waive punishment from her other children.
  • No-Sell: Downplayed. He's as vulnerable to Freya's charms as anyone, but his belief in the sanctity of his words is even more important to him, and no matter how much she teases him he will continue to mock and criticize her to get his point across.
  • Odd Friendship: Hans is baffled at how Ottar treats him as a friend, and Hans admonishes Freya constantly for the sole purpose of making her a better person.
  • Oh, Crap!: Hans bolts when he realizes that the newcomer he's been staring at is the "murderhobo" Kojiro.
  • Older Than They Look: He has the mentality of an older gentleman despite being a fairly tall pallum.
  • Parental Substitute: Hans takes Lili in as his adoptive daughter.
  • Pet the Dog: Hans treats Tiona better compared to the rest of the Loki Familia who he criticized very heavily.
  • Red Baron: "Mimir".
  • Rewriting Reality: One of his two magics, Unendliche Fantasie, allows him to write characters to life to fight on his behalf. While he needs protection from another adventurer to do this while under fire, he can essentially use multiple kinds of elemental magic and have a small army of magical constructs under his command so long as he has Mind to spare.
  • Sherlock Scan: He is able to determine everything about a person with a cursory glance thanks to his skill at human observation.
Hans: It’s just sad. The actions of a poor kid with few male role models in his life, much less friends. Only recently getting better and that’s debatable considering Kojiro and whoever raised you and filled your heads with so many clouds. Run of the mill kid chasing some big dream yet not knowing how that dream actually looks like or how to get there in the first place, even with all the guidance shoved up your ass. Not to mention naïve. Believing in the good of all people and that belief was only being challenged recently. Not a lot of brains, more gut feeling that unfortunately works more often than not, so it encourages you to be more reckless, even if you think you aren’t.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Downplayed. He has no filter, so he freely speaks his mind. As a result, he won't hesitate to call something shit if he thinks it is, nor is he afraid to call a goddess as famous and powerful as Freya an "Insane, stalking slut". But he's not crude and doesn't fill his dialogue with swears the way Brunhilde does, though that's still far more than most of the characters in the story.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: He wears glasses and is a peerless examiner of the human psyche as well as an extremely gifted author.
  • Sour Supporter: Although he chews out Bell for his naivety and foolhardy heroism, it's all but stated that he wants Bell to succeed as much as anyone else, warning him against joining the Freya Familia and forcing Freya to abandon her plans to force him to grow.
  • Squishy Wizard: His stats are all abysmal aside from his maxed out magic stat and high dexterity.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Hans is able to drag Freya around like a dead weight and throw her into her seat despite being a foot shorter than her.
  • Summon Magic: He can use magic to summon knights who will fight for him.
  • Vocal Dissonance: He has the deep voice of an older man despite being a tall pallum.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: At the end of his scathing criticism of Bell, Hans advises him to take some pride in himself, as humility is far from the virtue everyone says it is.
Hans: A piece of advice. Have some more confidence. Just keep moving and you’ll get a half decent story out of your life. [looking away and covering his mouth] You’re refreshing, I guess.
  • You Remind Me of X: Not stated in the story, but it's implied that Freya reminds him of his former Master, Kiara Sessyoin, and he wants to help her be a better person because of this.

Eris Familia

    Eris
  • Forced into Evil: Eris and her familia was originally like any other in Orario, if a little more enthusiastic about War Games. Then the Night Queen appeared and coerced them into being her followers. This is for the initial members of the familia, as later members are either aware of the connection, or don't care about committing evil deeds.

  • Ms. Exposition: Her role as a guild advisor is to teach new adventurers about the ins and outs of the Dungeon in hopes of keeping them from getting killed.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: She's a Guild adviser who is knowledgeable about all aspects of the Dungeon and wears glasses as she hands out advice to newbie adventurers.

A Level 2 or 3 adventurer who often works as a handyman around Orario. He's an acquaintance of Hans' and sporadically pops up until he's assigned to a party with Bell, Hans, Lili, Lefiya, and Filvis.

  • Canon Character All Along: Initially, his name seems to be just another nod to the Fate franchise. But he's revealed to be Angra Mainyu, the original Avenger, when Hans calls him the "weakest Servant".
  • The Cynic: He has a negative view on humanity as a whole, saying that it can't really change its nature.
  • Dual Wielding: He wields a pair of oddly-shaped curved blades when it's time to go into the Dungeon.
  • Foreshadowing: There are multiple hints to Shirou's true identity as Angra Mainyu leading up to the reveal.
    • His chosen alias is a reference to the time he possessed Shirou Emiya while maintaining the time loop in Fate/hollow ataraxia.
    • His face is wrapped in cloth, with his only identifying feature being his pitch-black eyes that no one else shares. He then mentions that he keeps his face covered because people tend to freak out when they see the "real [him]". When Bell remarks about how exhausting that must be, Shirou says that it's simply human nature.
    • His chosen weapons are a pair of oddly-shaped curved blades.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: While he's an adventurer, he's known for doing odd jobs around Orario as a handy man, doing everything from being a supporter to a construction worker.

Telskyura

    Kali

Kali

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kali_danmachi.png

A goddess and the founder of the Kali Familia, she has taken a de-facto leadership role in Telskyura after descending.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: In Hindu mythology, Kali is the warlike protector goddess and the manifestation of the mother goddess Parvati's rage. Her violent actions are in pursuit of righteous vengeance against evil, but here she's a Blood Knight who happily pits her children in duels to the death to see who comes out the strongest.

    Asura

Penthesilea Themyscira

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/penthesilea_fate.png
Asura

An incarnated Servant as well as the Captain of the Kali Familia and the Queen of Telskyura. Penthesilea was known as the sister of Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons, leading her people to fight on the side of Troy against the Achaeans until she was struck down by the invincible hero Achilles.

  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: She rose to the top of the Kali Familia through her own strength and martial skill, beating out all of the other Amazons and becoming their queen in the process.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Never. EVER. Compliment her looks. She nearly goes into rage mode when she thinks Bell is about to praise her her beauty only to calm down when the latter is only admiring about her strength.
    • When she first joined Kali Familia, the first Amazon she sparred with made the mistake of calling Penthesilea pretty. This resulted in a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown that ended with the unfortunate Amazon being torn in half.
  • Blood Knight: Due to being an Amazon warrior, Penthesilea is always looking for worthy opponents to fight, showing disappointment when Bell's Argonaut skill obliterated the pseudo-Leviathan before she could test her mettle against it. Kali lampshades this, asking Penthesilea if she planned to fight the beast with Kali still on her shoulders. It takes Penthesilea a second to deny it.
  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: She mentions that she spent the last 15 years incorporating Hector's Trojan-style of warfare into her tactics: destroying while defending. She's trained her body to withstand enemy attacks while also hurting her attackers, even incorporating Dance Battler tactics to throw her opponents off guard.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: When Bell asks her about the fight she had with Legiones, Penthesilea doesn't know what he meant since she has fought with her former comrades so many times she lost count.
  • Chainmail Bikini: Like the Amazons of this world, Penthesilea wears little armor, only enough to cover her chest and her waist along with some gauntlets on her arms. Given her brutal strength, she rarely needs armor.
  • Defensive "What?": This is her reaction when she fails to react when Ohma calls her "Pwetty". She asks everyone present if they seriously thought she'd murder a child. She gets a resounding chorus of yeses in response.
  • The Dreaded: She is the most feared out of the entire Amazon race, being their queen after all. The fact that she significantly injures the Legiones and make even Kojiro quiver in fear is telling enough about the threat she poses.
  • Epic Flail: Penthesilea's signature weapon and she uses them to deadly effects.
  • I Am Not Pretty: Downplayed. She knows she's beautiful, but she refuses to acknowledge it because of her regrets over being remembered for her looks rather than her strength and valor. The mere mention of the words "pretty" or "beautiful" is enough to send her into a mad rage, and she considers it better to be feared than loved.
  • Mighty Whitey: As an Amazon warrior from another world, Penthesilea lacks the tan skin of her subjects. But her power and skill let her rise to the top and become queen of the Amazons in this world as well.
  • Morality Chain: It's implied that Penthesilea instilled a sense of order in Telskyura aside from the brawls to death. The Amazons of the Kali Familia are explicitly forbidden from killing their opponents and she only allows the Amazons to reproduce with volunteers from Melen rather than kidnapping and raping men. After all, those who aren't brave enough to mate with an Amazon won't produce worthy offspring.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Zigzagged. As lampshaded by Kojiro and herself, you would expect someone with the alias of Asura to be Indian. However, it makes more sense if you remember that Kali is a Hindu goddess, so an alias that she would think of would naturally be Indian.
  • No-Sell: None of Solaris', Kojiro's, or Haruhime's attacks even phase her, and they end up hurting themselves while sparring with her. Even Bell's Argonaut-boosted Dragon Fang shatters harmlessly against one of her attacks.
  • Red Baron: "Asura".
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: In her previous life, she was the sister of Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons. Penthesilea's incredible strength has made her the queen of the Amazons in this world as well, and she leads from the frontlines on top of managing political deals with neighboring countries like Melen.
  • Semi-Divine: As an Amazon, she descends directly from the war god Ares of her world (not the pathetic loser ruling over Rakia).
  • Slasher Smile: When she smiles towards Bell, the latter describes that smile like that of a predator.
  • Super-Toughness: She's so tough that Solaris and Haruhime hurt themselves when they hit her rather than the other way around.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Thanks to being an actual human, she is no longer compelled by Mad Enhancement. Because of this, she's not quite as trigger-happy and is far more lucid, reasonable, and outgoing. She lampshades this, wondering if she's gotten soft despite the blood of Ares running through her veins.

Others

    Nyx

Nyx

One of the gods in charge of the Night Company, a mercantile trading business run by her and Eros' familia. She brings Bell from the Far East to Rakia and then to Altena.

  • Dark Is Not Evil: Nyx is noted to be creepy, between her eyes suddenly losing their pupils and suddenly popping in. But she's genuinely nice to Bell and gives him some motion sickness medicine free of charge. Then it's subverted when it's revealed that this is a calculated façade sustained through magic to prevent others from catching onto her. Double subverted once it's revealed that she really is nice and that the Night Queen actually brainwashed Nyx into thinking she was the Night Queen.
  • Death Glare: Nyx flashes a similar glare at a Rakian guard, though rather than Glowing Eyes of Doom, Nyx's eyes lose their pupils.
  • Dramatic Stutter: Nyx always speaks with a harsh stutter, often stuttering the same syllable four or five times before getting the words out.
  • Foreshadowing: Nyx is the primordial goddess of night. As a result, the Night Queen is her true personality, and the Nyx in public is a mask and an alias she creates for herself Subverted once it's revealed that Nyx is actually just a pawn of the real Night Queen, having been brainwashed into thinking she's the Night Queen.
  • Friendless Background: Nyx mentions having no real friends in heaven because of her ominous title as the goddess of night and she descended to the Lower World solely to make friends. Given how she has connections with the Gojounos and the personality she shows Bell is mostly an act, it's unknown how true this is. It's later revealed that she really does have no friends, which made it easy for the Night Queen to get close and brainwash her.
  • Intrepid Merchant: Intrepid is debatable, but Nyx travels the world to sell and trade wares at every major city. Bell and Kojiro hitch a ride with her to leave the Far East and travel to the rest of the stops on their journey.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: She's frequently referred to as "that thing" rather than given the respect a god usually gets, especially when she's kidnapped and transforms into this dark, blobbish thing that instills fear in everything it touches.
  • Odd Friendship: The stuttering Nyx is friends with Erebus, one of the few friends she actually had in the Heavens. Though its uncertain what they're real relationship is when it involves him and her actual personality.
  • Original Character: Nyx is never mentioned in the original DanMachi story and is created for the purposes of this story's plot.
  • Shrinking Violet: Nyx is shy and always stuttering from nervousness. Her voice comes out in a low reverberating whisper and she's spooked too after Bell jumps from having her whisper in his ear during their trip to Rakia.
  • Two Aliases, One Character: The Nyx that Bell and Kojiro know is a façade created through magic sufficient enough to fool even a sharp-eyed god of wisdom like Odin. Her true personality is that of the Night Queen, a goddess who loves to torture and break people given to her and is implied to be involved with Evilus. It's later revealed that the shy personality is her true self, and the Night Queen persona is something that was implanted into her by the real Night Queen.

    Night Queen
A mysterious person who's been wreaking havoc around the world for an unknown purpose.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: She believes that mortals would be happier without gods and does her best to get rid of all the deities.

    The Hound

Hessian Lobo

A Heroic Spirit summoned by the Night Queen.
  • Enemy Mine: Downplayed. He technically could've run away from the Juggernaut rather than fight it alongside Solaris. However, doing so would mean giving up on his hatred of humanity, even if only temporarily. As Lobo finds this completely unacceptable, he decides to help Solaris so that he can then kill her afterwards.
  • Go Through Me: Hessian blows himself up to give Lobo a chance to escape.
  • The Only One Allowed To Kill You: He teams up with Solaris to fight the Juggernaut because he wants to kill Solaris himself.
  • The Power of Hate: Lobo is driven by his hatred of humanity.

    The Count

The Count of Monte Cristo/Edmond Dantes

A Heroic Spirit summoned by the Night Queen.
  • Mr. Exposition: He's the one who explains what drives Avengers and what her ultimate fate might be.
“You will be tortured by yourself, Proto Avenger. You, child, who does not dare to dive into the endless abyss, yet keeps her back to the shore. A soul with no determination. No steel.” He chuckled darkly. “The visions you see are not your future set in stone. But they show what we Avengers are. What you will, perhaps, one day become. A taste, as you will.”
    [...]
“Hate is no such fickle, such feeble thing, like a pet to make use of! Hate, is not something so small, so weak, that it will submit! Nay, true hate, the hate that fuels an Avenger, is not something one chooses! It simply is! It is a force of nature that forces our every action, that drowns us, until we are nothing but hate! What you desire to control does not exist within you! No, you are too far gone!” He ignored how Aiz recoiled, as he cut the air with his arm.“Have you not paid attention to Jeanne Alter’s emotions?! She put it best! All we live for are fleeting dreams, as we pointlessly aim our hatred at everything, until nothing is left! That final moment of ours, where all is gone, is the moment we, Avengers, live for!”
  • The Power of Hate: He tells Aiz that he hates it when others are controlled by someone else.
"I, the Count of Monte Cristo, hate when individuals like yourself lose yourselves to something else. Nay...I despise outside interference. The mind belongs to the individual. No mortal, no monster, no god, can be allowed to taint another one’s soul."
  • Spirit Advisor: Acts as this for Aiz.

    The Musician

Antonio Salieri

A Heroic Spirit summoned by the Night Queen.
  • Brown Note: Salieri's music can cause those who are unable to resist its power to commit suicide.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: He uses everything that he has, ignoring the fact that his body is already destroying itself, in order to play a song to interrupt the Night Queen's control over her thralls.

    The Pallum Knight

Fianna-Fenia

A Heroic Spirit summoned by the Night Queen.
  • All for Nothing: She laments that her attempt to continue inspiring the Pallum race by taking the name of Fianna resulted in the entire race giving up after realizing that there is no such goddess.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Due to the Pallum race as a whole believing her to be their goddess, Fenia was summoned with the abilities of all those who were worshipped as Fianna.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Fenia was summoned as the deity she was worshipped as after death rather than the warrior she was in life, giving her C Rank Divinity and the ability to command all Pallums.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Learning that all her efforts to lift up the Pallum race were for naught broke her.
  • Mighty Glacier: Averting the Combat Parkour favored by her race, Fenia fights like a traditional knight, maintaining her stance and only moving forward.
  • Morph Weapon: Fianna swap between ten different weapons based on the weapons wielded by the Knights of Fianna.
  • The Power of Hate: Fianna wants to completely destroy the Pallum race for throwing away their pride and giving up.
  • Weapon Specialization: As the only weapon she actually used in life, Fenia fights best with a spear.

    The Witch

Jeanne Alter

A Heroic Spirit summoned by the Night Queen.
  • Dragon Tamer: Jeanne Alter commands the various dragons that she has collected for years in order to use against the forces of Orario. This ends up backfiring after Jeanne is temporarily broken free from Mind Control, as she immediately orders the dragons to attack all members of Evilus.
  • Pet the Dog: She tells Aiz to let go of her hate before it's too late.
  • Playing with Fire: Jeanne Alter's black flames can be unleashed with but a wave of her hand, in addition to it being strong enough to match Aiz's wind.
  • The Power of Hate: Jeanne Alter desire to burn everything around her to the ground.
  • Suicide by Cop: After Jeanne Alter starts to feel the Night Queen trying to reassert control over her, she asks the surrounding adventurers to end her before she's controlled again, something which Riveria obliges.

    The Snake

Medusa

A Heroic Spirit summoned by the Night Queen.
