Blood Unit

  • Badass Crew: Prior to the protagonist's Evoke Blood Power, they're the only God Eaters able to fight Psion Aragamis.
  • Black Swords Are Better: Besides Livie, their signature God Arcs are variations of Kurogane-series parts. The protagonist's "default" God Arc is also Kurogane.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Considering the above, each of members' God Arcs has designated colors besides black:
    • Julius: Gold
    • Romeo: Orange
    • Nana: Pink
    • Golbert: Violet
    • Ciel: Turquoise
    • Protagonist: Silver, Black and Maroon
    • Livie: Red

God Arc: 3rd Generation
Weapon Type: [Highly-Customizable]

A member of Blood, an affiliate Aragami control force of Fenrir which runs a mobile base. As with the previous protagonist, the player is a Silent Protagonist as well and has no canon name. The manga adaptation however names the male protagonist Hiro Kamui, the canonicity of which has since confirmed in God Eater: Resonance Ops.

  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: How they get to be the Number Two of Blood.
  • Big Brother Mentor: The Protagonist is one for Kanon (who then calls him/her as sensei) and Erina.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: When Haruomi asks them which part of a woman they first look, their response is the bust. Even if the protagonist in question is female.
  • Canon Name: Resonant Ops goes with Hiro Kamui.
  • Chick Magnet: Much like the previous protagonist, they get teasing with a number of girls (Mainly Ciel, Nana, Yuno, Livie, Fran, and Erina), which still applies even if the protagonist is female. Also applies to their interactions with some of the guys too.
  • The Comically Serious: To some extent. Some of the Character Episodes, such as Kigurumi and Haru, are downright bizarre, yet the protagonist responds to the whole situation with such straight face.
  • Field Promotion: The protagonist is promoted to the Captain of Blood after Julius left to participate in the God Arc Soldier project as Rachel's Unwitting Pawn.
  • Fighting Clown: Like the previous protagonist, they can be dressed up in a mascot costume like Kigurumi.
  • The Gadfly: Can be played as this in Erina's Character Episode and also another of her episodes' instances when she asks if you saw her growing Blood Art in battle (one choice which references her panty's white color).
  • The Hero: The game's main character and an inspiring figure for their allies
  • Heroic Mime: Just like their predecessor, they are as talkative as any other character during missions but rarely speak in cutscenes. They finally speak one line of dialogue before the final battle. They speak again during Rage Burst, once when they go in to rescue Julius and when they reassure him that he's not alone as he has the other support him, being the first to speak up in surprise at seeing a revived Romeo, and then finally during the last scene where they lead the Blood Unit into battle once more.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Much like the first protagonist, they eventually become this for the other members of Blood. Especially Ciel, who regards them as her first friend. In Ciel and Gilbert's cases, their involvement is also much of the reason behind their Blood Power's awakening.
  • Megaton Punch: Played for Laughs in one of Emil's Character Episodes. You can punch him a total of three times with the right dialogue choices. The first before he's even ready, the second where the player takes a running start, and the third being just for the hell of it.
  • Morph Weapon: As common to God Eaters of the second generation and above.
  • No Name Given: The manga gives the male protagonist the name "Hiro Kamui". The English release of Rage Burst on the other hand gives the female protagonist the name "Reika Kagura".
  • Number Two: Immediately becomes the second-in-command of Blood for being the first one to awaken their Blood Power.
  • Purely Aesthetic Gender: Noticeably averted in regards to Haruomi and especially in the latter's character episodes. When playing as male, the dialogue choices help to paint the Protagonist as having Covert Pervert tendencies. Playing as female, however, results in the Protagonist quickly shooting down any of Haru's suggestions to her.
  • Ship Tease: Has quite a few with both Ciel and Gilbert.
  • Silent Bob: Surprisingly, despite being a Heroic Mime, they are quite expressive in Character Episodes, especially when you put them together with someone like Emil.
  • Super-Empowering: Their Blood Power, "Evoke", amplifies powers and enables even God Eaters outside of Blood to use Blood Arts and Blood Bullets. This also allows them to fight against psions, whose powers usually cause all non-Blood God Arcs to cease functioning.
  • Super Mode: As with all God Eaters, Burst Mode is this. In Rage Burst, however, the Protagonist gains the unique Blood Rage ability, which utilizes their Blood Power to draw out the full potential of their God Arc.
  • Time Travel: The bonus content The Black Predator has the protagonist somehow travel back into the past wherein they bear witness Lindow's transformation into a Corrosive Hannibal.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: With the "Pendant" set of tops, this is entirely possible.
  • Walking Swimsuit Scene: The female counterpart of the "Pendant" set is a pair of bikinis.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: The female protagonist has an option to have same hair and clothes with Julius.
  • You Remind Me of X: When Alisa first meets Blood, she looks at the protagonist as if she knew them. When Julius asks if she did know them, she says they just reminded her of someone; most likely the previous game's protagonist.

Hiro Kamui

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hiro.jpg
Voiced by: Shunzo Miyasaka[note ]
Age: 17
Joined Blood: 2074
God Arc: 3rd Generation
Weapon Type: Long Blade/Assault Gun

The second game's canonical protagonist. Made his debut in the manga adaptation of God Eater 2 and appeared as a cameo in The 2nd Break. He made his first official appearance in a God Eater game in God Eater: Resonant Ops where he is still shown to be the captain of Blood.

  • Chick Magnet: Gains the affection of a number girls over time.
  • Covert Pervert: As seen during a bonus chapter in the manga, Hiro is revealed to be this. Perhaps even more so compared to his game counterpart as he's seen quite clearly ogling Kanon's chest, who at the time is wearing a Sexy Secretary outfit complete with cleavage window, and loving it.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Favors the usage of the Kurogane swords for his God Arc's melee component. He briefly switches to a Buster Blade after Romeo's death.
  • Identical Stranger: Aside from hairstyle and hair color, Hiro looks incredibly similar to Yuu especially when looked at from behind. In the manga, this is how Alisa initially mistook the former for the latter when she first meets him whereas in the game she was simply reminded of the protagonist instead.
  • Instant Expert: Quickly gets a handle of being a God Eater.
  • Mysterious Past: Much like with Yuu, his past has yet to have been brought up. Not even by Hiro himself.
  • Nice Guy: Friendly and easy to get along with.
  • Tragic Keep Sake: The jacket Romeo buys him after wrecking his old one becomes this, being delivered just after Romeo died. Hiro wears it for the rest of the God Eater 2 story until the Time Skip to Rage Burst.

    Julius

Julius Visconti

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/21_julius.jpg
Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa (Japanese) and Matthew Mercer (English)
Age: 20
Joined Blood: 2067
God Arc: 3rd Generation
Weapon Type: Long Blade/Assault Gun

Team Captain of the Blood Unit. Excels in fighting ability and military tactics.

  • The Atoner: In his character episode in the Rage Burst post-game. He feels responsible for the patients being used to power the God Arc Soldiers back in the main arc of God Eater 2 and understands that many may not be willing to forgive him. But he's still going to try his best to make up for it, even going as far as farming in the Holy Ground, where God Eaters get Brought Down to Normal because oracle cells can't function there.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: Happens at the end of the story when Yuno and the Blood members attempt to undo his transformation. Sadly, it doesn't work., and Rage Burst shows that Rachel isn't quite done with him yet either.
  • Body Horror: His transformation into the World Opener. He's shown as being crucified on the thing's head!
  • Clothing Damage: For fending off monsters by himself while trapped in the Helix Tree, his clothes get tattered enough that it becomes a Shirtless Scene.
  • The Chosen One: A dark example. He and Yuno are the suitable candidates of the new Singularity, chosen through the Red Rain.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Downplayed since he was never outright cold and instead just The Stoic, but he noticably relaxes over the course of the game and becomes much more friendly and approachable.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Gets hit hard by this after Romeo dies, making him soft putty for Rachel's manipulation.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: While Julius starts off as the leader of Blood, he resigns from his post and gives it to the protagonist following Romeo's death while transferring to the God Arc Soldier program and distances himself from his friends. When his friends later enter Friar and find that the God Arc Soldiers were being powered by victims of the Red Rain, Julius still helps Rachel with her schemes up until she betrays him and forces him to become the singularity. By the end of the story of the base game however, Julius pulls a Heelā€“Face Turn and makes up with his friends.
  • Friendless Background: Grew up very isolated despite being taken in by Dr. Rachel like most of Blood, Ciel being the only person his age he interacted with regularly and even he admits it was less friendship and more bodyguard and charge. Deliberate in the manga where Dr. Rachel isolated him so he would get more attached to the Blood members to use them to manipulate him.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: After his defeat as the Singularity, in order to save his friends from his Singularity's devouring, he manages to eliminate the devouring process with his power and turn the partially grown Singularity structure into a flower-like structure that extracts the no longer needed Black Plague from all infected patients.
  • The Leader: Of Blood. At least until his retirement. He asks the Protagonist if he could be reinstated in the ending of the Rage Burst Arc.
  • Morph Weapon
  • Rapid Hair Growth: From the period between his disappearance to his reappearance.
  • Secretly Dying: When Julius goes after Romeo in the Red Rain, his protective suit ends up damaged and he gets infected in the process while black markings start covering his body and he gets sicker as time goes on. While he leaves Blood following Romeo's death and distances himself from his friends to hide this, they later learn about it and his illness instead mutates him into the new singularity.
  • Status Buff: His Blood Power, "Control", gives surrounding party members a level of Burst when he uses his Blood Art. It's stackable. Down an enemy and just watch him power your entire team to its maximum.
  • The Stoic: Most of the time, he remains cool and professional, though there are exceptions such as when Romeo dies.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Rachel.
  • When He Smiles: In a tragic subversion of the latter, after the mission following Romeo's death, he gives a sad smile to the protagonist before resigning and joining the God Arc Soldier project.

    Nana

Nana Kozuki

Voiced by: Emiri Katou (Japanese) and Cassandra Lee Morris (English)
Age: 17
Joined Blood: 2074
God Arc: 3rd Generation
Weapon Type: Boost Hammer/Shotgun

A member of Blood Unit. Has a cheerful nature coupled with a voracious appetite. Orphaned from a young age, she does not recall nor want to talk about her past.

  • Badass Driver: Proves herself to be a skilled APC driver at one point in the story. While being chased by a Vajra.
  • Big Eater: Surprises the protagonist by eating bread slightly bigger than her arm in 3 seconds.
  • Blessed with Suck: Apparently due to being a God Eater's child, Nana has innate ability to lure Aragami to her vicinity. This got the rescue team in her childhood killed due to her unconsciously attracting Yakshas.
  • Cat Girl: Her hairstyle which is held up by several hair clips resembles this very much, but just to be clear, she is totally human.
  • Close-Range Combatant: Her preferred fighting style, she only use her gun for Link Burst.
  • Cute Bruiser: Emphasized further by her manner of speaking and her maxed out HP (150 is the max) ingame.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Like Alisa, she has lost her parents to the Aragami, and like her, she initially tries to block it out.
  • Draw Aggro: Her Blood Power, "Attract", draws the attention of nearby Aragami.
  • Establishing Character Moment: After having a short but friendly conversation with the protagonist, eats a large sandwich in 3 seconds and gives one to the protagonist afterwards.
  • Genki Girl: Is pretty energetic, probably because of her huge appetite too.
  • Harmful to Minors: Her mother was not the only one killed in the incident that orphaned her — the entire rescue team sent to help her was also killed by the Aragami that her then-uncontrollable Blood Power attracted.
  • In the Blood: Her mother was also a God Eater.
  • Mighty Glacier: She is hard-hitting and durable, but lacks agility.
  • Missing Mom: Who was killed when protecting her.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Unavoidable given her appearance.
  • Ship Tease: With Romeo of all people. Amongst the Blood members, they banter with each other the most, both during story missions and cutscenes. Nana is also the most sentimental when it comes to Romeo after his death, usually being the first one to notice Romeo's power, and hugs Livie crying after she reveals Romeo's history. In the end, however, they're nothing more than Those Two Guys.
  • Stepford Smiler: Though naturally energetic, she's had a troubled childhood but tries to block it out initially.
  • Stripperific: Her choice of top and shorts really don't leave a lot to the imagination.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: With her mother, Yoshino.
  • Too Dumb to Fool: When Rachel separates the Blood member, she uses Lotus-Eater Machine to appear as their loved ones in their dreams, in Nana's case, her own mother Yoshino. However, unlike Gilbert and Ciel who manages to figure out Rachel's scheme, Nana simply never figures out that the apparition of her mother is Rachel in disguise. Instead, she simply breaks her way out by smashing the door. When you talk to her after rescuing everyone, she has no idea about it, even after she heard about them meeting Rachel in their dreams.
  • Trade Mark Favorite Food: Odenpan, often seen lugging around a sackful of these. She first ate said food when her mother gave it to her, so this may be a Played for Drama case.
  • You Don't Look Like You: Compared to other members of Blood, Nana looks completely different when compared to her initial appearance in the TGS 2011 concept reveal trailer and early promotional artworks.

    Romeo

Romeo Leoni

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/23_romeo.jpg
Voiced by: Makoto Naruse (Japanese) and Todd Haberkorn (English)
Age: 19
Joined Blood: 2073
God Arc: 3rd Generation
Weapon Type: Buster Blade/Blast Gun

A member of Blood Unit. He is friendly but lowbrow. He seems to know a lot about fashion and idols. He was one of the many orphans of the Dr. Rachel Claudius's Magnolia Compass orphanage.

  • Back from the Dead: After the party successfully stops the Devouring Apocalypse from happening yet again at the end of the Rage Burst arc, Romeo suddenly shows up out of nowhere alive and well. He's just as confused as everyone else is as to how he got back.
  • Bromantic Foil: Harem protagonists almost always need a wingman, Romeo serves as this to Hiro in manga.
  • Can't Catch Up: While everyone in Blood brings their own strengths (Nana's sturdiness, Ciel's support abilities, Gil's experience), Romeo feels like he's The Load in comparison, especially once everyone but him unlocks their Blood power despite his best efforts to improve. Even during his death scene he apologizes for not being stronger, despite having saved everyone using his newly awakened Blood power. He finally catches up once he's Back from the Dead.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Considers himself to be the most minor member of Blood, being the only member throughout the game who doesn't unlock their Blood powers. Which not only is it revealed to be extremely useful in his Dying Moment of Awesome, being able to turn away aragami, but Rage Burst shows that it can cancel out Oracle Cells which is vital in counteracting the Devouring Apocalypse.
  • Connected All Along: In Rage Burst turns out that he was Livie's Only Friend back when they were at the orphanage, being the only one who tried to get her to open up. It is because of this that Livie goes along with Blood on their mission to investigate the Spiral Tree.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Took down a Garm and successfully drove away the Marduk using his newly-awakened Blood Power before eventually dying in Julius' arms, saving the latter's life.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: His Blood power, originally referred to as "Repel", later gets literally referred to as "Heart" when its true nature is revealed: turns out it has the power to completely nullify nearby Oracle cell activity, creating an area free of Aragami. It's pretty useful when you bring him along with you as well, as it severely impairs the senses of the Aragami, allowing you to walk right past them without being seen so you can choose which one to focus.
  • The Heart: As admitted by Julius, his friendly attitude and open nature helped the new members settle into Blood which in turn let them grow closer as friends and companions. Which makes his death hit all of them all the harder.
  • Heroic BSoD: Has a major crisis of confidence when he ends up as the only person on the squad who hasn't unlocked his power of Blood. He gets over it after getting a chance to vent his frustrations, unlocking his power of Blood immediately after.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Romeo tends to speak his mind with little consideration about what, to who, or about who he's saying. This is the primary cause of his problem with Gilbert early on.
  • Keet: Loud, energetic and raring to go at all times.
  • Morph Weapon
  • Mysterious Past: All that is recorded in the database is that he was an orphan at the Magnolia Compass orphanage until he was recruited into Blood a year before the protagonist.
  • Only Friend: Was this to Julius before the other members joined Blood. In the manga it turns out that Dr. Rachel made sure this would happen so that Romeo's death could be the thing that pushes Julius past the Despair Event Horizon. Also was this to Livie in the orphanage.
  • Ship Tease: With Nana of all people.
  • Sacrificial Lion: His death is the first sign that Dr. Rachel is up to no good.
  • Sword Beam: Charge Crush: Divider, his Blood Art, is effectively one of these, with a unique upward swing.
  • Those Two Guys: With Nana.

    Gilbert

Gilbert McLane

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/24_gilbert.jpg
Voiced by: Toshiyuki Morikawa (Japanese) and Patrick Seitz (English)
Age: 22
Joined Fenrir Glasgow Branch: 2069
Transferred to Blood: 2074
God Arc: 3rd Generation
Weapon Type: Charge Spear/Assault Gun (previously Old-Type Charge Spear)

A veteran God Eater transferred into Blood with five years worth of combat experience.

  • Baritone of Strength: He fights monsters big and small that can and will eat him on a daily basis and he has a deep baritone voice in both the Japanese and English tracks.
  • Blood Knight: Some of his in-combat banters seem to indicate that he is one, especially when he actually laughs when he runs low on health.
  • The Comically Serious: Possibly, if the way he responds to Emil's over-the-top introduction in such bored manner says anything.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: A pretty serious one. He's nicknamed "Fragging Gil" after being forced to Mercy Kill a superior officer during a mission (the Aragami they were battling damaged her armlet, and he had to kill her to prevent her from transforming into an Aragami herself).
  • Experienced Protagonist: Compared to the other members of Blood aside from Julius, Gilbert already has five years worth of experience as a God Eater and it shows.
  • Fur and Loathing: Wears it and acts it to strangers.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: The good one.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: In the wake of the "Fragging Gil" incident, he was thought of as a murderer who killed his superior officer in cold blood by those who didn't know the whole story.
  • Hidden Depths: He apparently has a lot of talent. His Character Episode deals with his budding interest on God Arc engineering (with Licca noting he successfully built his own module from the notes she gave him on first try). He can also be seen playing guitar between survival missions, and Teruomi notes he is also good at playing piano (though he won't play if asked).
  • In-Series Nickname: Gil.
  • It's Personal: The battle against Rufus Caligula is this for him, being the very same Aragami that forced him to kill his superior.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: With an emphasis on the latter. Despite his rude first appearance and constantly not getting along well with Romeo, he is concerned for his teammates well-being and is shown to be on good terms with the protagonist. His former superior even noted that Gilbert is a kind person.
  • Just in Time: Soon after the protagonist awakens their Blood Power, he and the others arrive before the now-scarred Marduk can do anything to them, and drive it away.
  • The Lancer: For the protagonist.
  • Long-Range Fighter: His preferred fighting style, he rarely use his Blade form.
  • More Dakka: He primarily uses his Assault Gun form.
  • Morph Weapon
  • Not Even Bothering with the Accent: While most everyone in the dub speaks with a generic American accent Gil is notable in that he lacks an accent despite coming from a predominantly English speaking country.
  • Status Buff: His Blood Power, "Inspire", raises the entire team's attack whenever he unleashes a Charge Glide. It's most likely to happen after you've downed an Aragami, though given that you can move around while charging it, it's hard to see why he doesn't just prepare it while he's moving in towards one.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Tops out at 185cm (6'1").
  • The One Guy: Excluding the protagonist who can be either male or female, he becomes the sole male member of Blood following Romeo's death and Julius' Heroic Sacrifice. This gets reversed at the end of Rage Burst, however.
  • When He Smiles: Gilbert usually appears on-screen with frown or smirk that borders on cynical, but the few times he lets out genuine smile, it's heartwarming.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: A minor one, but he's revealed to have a slight fear of heights during Rage Burst.

    Ciel

Ciel Alencon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/25_ciel.jpg
Voiced by: Mamiko Noto (Japanese) and Cristina Valenzuela (English)
Age: 16
Joined Blood: 2074
God Arc: 3rd Generation
Weapon Type: Short Blade/Sniper Gun

Julius' bodyguard and member of Blood Unit. She has a calm demeanor, but can hold a gun in times of crisis.

  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Used to be Julius' bodyguard when they were younger, despite her at the time being much younger and a regular human compared to Julius already undergoing Bias factor experiments and training to be a God Eater at the time.
  • Childhood Friends: With Julius. Though it's stated that they were more acquaintances at best than actual friends.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Loves the Far East Branch's Lounge Pet Cappy, and is responsible for making it so huge by feeding it regularly. In a dialogue after Rage Burst ends, she also has Imagine Spot of being surrounded by capybaras while working on Blood Bullets.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: She even has light pink panties to go with her casual frilled clothes outfit.
  • Friendless Background: Due to her strict upbringing, she doesn't have friends at all. The protagonist is her first friend. She realizes the importance of precious bonds after the protagonist disobeys orders and ride a God Arc Soldier to save her, thus awakening her Blood Power.
  • Friendly Sniper: Rarely hits the player.
  • The Glomp: Gives one to the protagonist in her Character Episode.
  • Leg Focus: During cutscenes, the camera often focuses on her exposed legs. Her skirt's length and shape, in addition to a knife strapped on her thighs, certainly don't help either.
  • The Medic: Shoots out Heal Lasers when player is at low health, but due to the slow speed of the bullet, it usually never saves a near-incapacitated player — an issue that can be remedied by good positioning. On the brighter side, her Heal Laser goes through Aragami...
  • Morph Weapon
  • Not So Stoic: Ciel often smiles around the protagonist. She also gets notably agitated when the effects of the 'Beloved' and 'Friendship' Skills trigger.
    Kh...How dare you...!
    I'll bring it down!
  • Sensor Character: Her Blood Power, "Intuit", enables her to sense Aragami. In gameplay terms, it provides the effects of the Enemy HP Vision and Sensitive skills, allowing the player to see enemies' battle status and remaining health.
  • Ship Tease: Quite a few with the protagonist, with him/her being her first friend and all.
  • Team Dad: Female example. She is the one who arranges the team's training menu, in addition to being the one who keeps other Blood members in line with the mission in detail.

    Livie

Livie Collete

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/26_livie.jpg
Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto (Japanese) and Amanda CĆ©line Miller (English)
Age: 18
Joined Fenrir HQ: 2069
Transferred to Blood: 2074
God Arc: 3rd Generation
Weapon Type: Variant Scythe/Shotgun

Introduced in the Rage Burst storyline. A member of the intelligence division of Fenrir HQ. She has the ability to use another's God Arc and abilities, albeit at great pain to her. She serves as an acting Captain for the Blood Unit, and she would later allow the Protagonist to take back their leader position at the near end of the story. She later transferred to the Blood permanently at the end of the story, but lost her ability to use another's God Arc.

  • Auto-Revive: After joining Blood permanently in the ending she awakens the Blood Power "Kindness", which allows each party member to revive from KO without waiting for Link Aid once.
  • Connected All Along: She like the majority of the members of Blood, grew up in the orphanage Magnolia Compass. However she was very much treated as an Ineffectual Loner and was Dr. Rachel's favorite until Julius came along. At that moment though Romeo befriended her as her Only Friend. It is primarily because of this she agrees to help Blood investigate the Spiral Tree.
  • Discard and Draw: She lost her ability to wield multiple God Arcs by the end of the game, but in its place she gained Blood Power "Kindness".
  • Expy: To first game's Soma, being also a dark-skinned blonde, constantly In the Hood and an Ineffectual Loner.
  • Ineffectual Loner Was this when she was a child at Magnolia Compass, having only Dr. Rachel as company until Julius came along, which then she has: discarded. Fortunately Romeo came and decided to be her friend.
  • Morph Weapon
  • Sixth Ranger: Joins the Blood Unit after the Rage Burst storyline.
  • Sinister Scythe: Her main God Arc is this.
  • The Stoic: Even moreso than Ciel.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Although appearing distant at first, she is a kind and caring character who looks after others.
  • Team Mom: Her post-game Character Episode reveals that she is one, fussing everyone when they are injured or when they get dirty.

Age: 11 (1) / 14 (2) / 18 (Resonant Ops)
Joined Far East Branch: 2074
God Arc: 2nd Generation
Weapon Type: Charge Spear/Shotgun

Originally appearing in the first game as an eleven-year-old child, Erina is the younger sister of the late Eric, who eventually follows his footsteps as a God Eater.

  • Ascended Extra: Showed up as the unnamed "Affluent Girl" in the first game, and was eventually made into a backup character in Resurrection after her appearance in God Eater 2, making a strange case where her "extra-ness" becomes less relevant in the game where she was originally an extra.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: For all of her complaints about Emil, she at least seems to appreciate him in her own way. This is exemplified in one of her mails that despite complaining about Emil's mail being nonsensical and the player should just ignore it, she always feels her spirits to be lifted up every time she feels down and read his mails.
  • Badass Adorable: Even before becoming a God Eater, Erina shows a huge desire to be a great God Eater, on Eric's level, or even better. And considering she keeps up with Blood, she's definitely surpassed her late brother... Not that that was hard.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: Often engaged in this with Emil as the tsukkomi.
  • Child Soldiers: The youngest known God Eater to date after Soma, who has been one since the age of 12.
  • I Call It "Vera": She addresses her God Arc by the nickname of "Oscar", which has Norse origins meaning God Spear (os=god/kar=spear).
  • Gatling Good: in the PVs.
  • Jousting Lance: She even makes multiple Oracle Lances once she attains Gatling Spike, her Blood Art.
  • The Leader: Of Fenrir's 14th Unit in Resonant Ops.
  • Morph Weapon
  • Not So Above It All: Gets herself involved in Kota's shenanigans to uncover Kigurumi's identity in latter's Character Episode.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: Although she uses an Assault Gun in the PVs, she actually has a Shotgun in the game.
  • Status Buff: has an innate skill called "Wrath Of Revenge" which gives her Burst Mode if any one of her allies get downed. The same ability was held by her late brother.

Age: ?
Joined ??? Branch: 20XX
God Arc: ??? Generation
Weapon Type: Short Blade/Shotgun

A mysterious God Eater of an unknown Fenrir Branch (currently stationed in the Far East) who always wears an animal suit. Not much is known about them.

  • Ambiguous Gender: Whether it's a man, woman, or something else entirely inside that costume is a mystery.
  • Ambiguously Human: Is Kigurumi a human? A ghost? An alien? An Aragami? It becomes more questionable when you progress through its Character Episodes.
  • Fighting Clown: Despite wearing the goofy mascot costume, it doesn't hinder Kigurumi's kicking of Aragami butts at all.
  • Flat Character: Unlike Alisa who at least appeared a few times in story missions, Kigurumi is absolutely no appearance in story missions and is nothing more than a background extra. Kigurumi's Character Episodes don't even help, focusing only on exposing its identity.
  • He Who Must Not Be Seen: Kota and co's attempts at uncovering their identity always end in failure, be it by revealing the inside of their suit is empty or by showing there is another head under the suit's head.
  • Meaningful Name: They are always seen in an animal costume, hence their name.
  • Power Copying: Sort of. Kigurumi's Link Support Device is always the same as your own, no matter what you use. In most cases, this allows you to stack them.
  • Series Mascot: Is apparently one alongside Cappy and the Abaddon/Amon.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: In their Character Episode, they have a tendency to move unnoticed, freaking Kota and Erina out at one point.
  • The Voiceless: Their dialogues always consist of ellipses, question marks and/or exclamation marks. Nothing else.

God Arc: 2nd Generation (previously 1st Generation)
Weapon Type: Buster Blade/Sniper Gun (previously Old-Type Buster Blade)

Gilbert's former teammate back on Fenrir Glasgow Branch. Formerly a member of Far East Branch, he moved back after their superior's death as the leader of 4th Unit. He is something of a womanizer and playboy.

  • Chivalrous Pervert: Gameplay-wise as a skill gained from completing his Character Episodes; if any female characters are present when he is incapacitated, they will immediately enter Burst Mode. This is likely a reference to the girls he actually is on good terms with in spite of his harassment record.
  • Close-Range Combatant: One of his unlockable Personal Abilities in Rage Burst allows him to focus on all-out Blade-form fighting style. It also a reminiscence of his previous Old-Type Buster Blade God Arc.
  • Handsome Lech: The entirety of his Character Episode revolves around his preferences on women. In addition, Gilbert mentions early on into the story that Haruomi is infamous for his record of sexual harassment cases. Gets doubly hilarious if you're playing as a female Protagonist; Haru is disappointed a total of four times as he realizes you're not into the things he likes.
    Haruomi: Hey...Do you like knee-highs?
    Protagonist: No...
  • In-Series Nickname: Haru.
  • The Leader: Of the Far East Branch's 4th Unit.
  • The Lost Lenore: Kate Lawry, his girlfriend.
  • Morph Weapon
  • Shirtless Scene: In one of the illustrations seen during the credits.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: With his younger brother, Teruomi.

  • Ascended Extra: Becomes a recruitable NPC in Rage Burst update.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Can be seen in side view.
  • Mighty Glacier: Just like her daughter, Yoshino is hard-hitting and durable, but lacks agility.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Yoshino is the sole existing female 1st Generation God Eater that wield a Blade-form Old-Type God Arc, contrast to the rest of the female 1st Generation God Eaters (including Kate's Old-Type days) are all wield a Gun-form Old-Type God Arcs.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: With her daughter, Nana.

Cappy

A capybara that was rescued during a mission. She lives in the lounge and grows in size dramatically over the course of the game.

  • Emergency Food Supply Animal: Defied, as animals are extremely rare, so the morale boost from keeping it alive outweighs the value of whatever meat it could give.
"Although there are rumors that it is being kept on hand as emergency provisions, animals are valuable and treasured creatures, and its consumption is strictly prohibited."
  • A Lizard Named "Liz": In English version. Averted in Japan since it is named "Kalby".
  • Rodents of Unusual Size: Being a capybara, it naturally grows very big.
  • Team Pet: Spends her days sitting around the lounge looking cute.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Wears a red ribbon to indicate that it's female.

Supporting Characters

    Dr. Rachel (SPOILER

Rachel Claudius

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rachel_38.jpg
Voiced by: Aoi Yūki (Japanese) and Cindy Robinson (English)

Chief Supervisor of Fenrir FRIAR Branch's Aragami Technology Department and founder of Blood, as well as the Magnolia Compass orphanage.

  • Abusive Parents: More like a Parental Substitute; she doesn't show it until very late in the game, but the entire reason of her adopting Julius is so that she can have a puppet to play with.
    • To an extent, towards the children of the Magnolia Compass orphanage too. She subjected them to Bias Factor experiments, something that even her own father stated to be "inhuman".
  • Animal Motifs: In the Rage Burst arc, black butterflies tend to show up inside the Helix Tree. It is later revealed that they are a manifestation of her will. And what do black butterflies symbolize? Death.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Used to be a quiet doll obsessive sister for Leah, which promptly caused her to push Rachel down the stairs as a child and disable her spine down.
  • Big Bad: The main villain of God Eater 2 as a whole.
  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to Leah's Abel.
  • Crazy-Prepared: She even has a backup plan to manipulate Dr. Kujo into doing her biddings after her supposed "death" and failure to trigger Devouring Apocalypse.
  • Dying as Yourself: Her last words before her will finally disappears is that for the first time ever since she was a kid she no longer is under the influence of the Restless God and is finally at peace.
  • Enfante Terrible: She already had the idea of causing Devouring Apocalypse ever since she was saved as a child with the P73 Bias Factor of great regeneration power. It remains unknown whether she is driven by her own desire or the Aragami spirit inside her, however.
    • Though her final words following her defeat seems to imply the latter. Mentioning how at peace she feels now that she no longer hears the voice of the Restless God, and that her final wish is for everyone else to be safe and to live happily.
  • Foreshadowing: When Rachel first meets Soma, he remarks that perhaps she's a monster inside, just like him. Those who have discovered Soma's origin story will quickly realize that Rachel is part Aragami too.
  • Genius Cripple: Wheelchair confined due to a spine accident.
  • Giggling Villain: With a innocent-sounding girlish adult voice.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: After suffering near-fatal injuries when her sister pushed her down some stairs as a child, her father had her injected with Bias Factor (much like Soma's case) to save her life.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: Her ultimate downfall at the hands of Blood can be considered this, especially in regards to Livie. Even though Livie was promptly discarded by her when she found Julius, the experiments she performed on her was what granted her ability to wield multiple God Arcs, which became instrumental for the progress of Spiral Tree investigation.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: After she separates the Blood member inside the tree, she projects this towards Gil, Nana, and Ciel, with her disguising as their dearest one to manipulate them. Fortunately, each one of them manage to break free, with Gil and Ciel even figure out Rachel's disguise.
  • Mad Scientist: Unlike Dr. Sakaki, this is very much played straight.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Orchestrated Romeo's death by shutting down God Arc Soldiers to drive Julius across the Despair Event Horizon and convince him to support her research plans in disguise of her ulterior motive. It's later revealed that she had arranged for an e-mail to be sent to Kujou after her death just in case her plans were foiled, using his crush on her to manipulate him into sabotaging Fenrir's attempts to investigate the Helix Tree.
  • Mistaken for Gay: A pair of women who are incredibly close, raised a bunch of children together, and look nothing alike? Romeo has his doubts about Leah and Rachel.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Like Johannes, she plans to create the new singularity to devour the entire planet after Shio left Earth for the moon. Unlike Johannes, her plan doesn't involve humanity surviving.
  • One-Winged Angel: Transforms into the somewhat creepy-looking "World Closer" to battle you.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: She is obsessed with dolls since she was a child, and this carries over into adulthood. Only this time, that includes considering everyone around her as dolls.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Killed her own father using the prototype God Arc Soldier Zero when he becomes a threat for stopping her human experiments.
  • Walking Spoiler: Despite initially being presented as Big Good, it's hard to look at her and say that she isn't evil, but it's even harder to say that she isn't planning something malicious behind everyone.

    Director Grem

Gregory de Gremslow

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grem.jpg
Voiced by: Tesshō Genda (Japanese) and ??? (English)
Age: 45

  • Jerkass: While Grem is the director of Friar, he is also shown to be very unpleasant even during his first scene where he scolds the new members of Blood and called them children while also prioritizing protecting the God Arc Soldiers instead of saving Ciel from the Red Rain and thinking about the profit of the God Arc Soldier program.
  • Never My Fault: Close to the climax of the base game's story when he is doing a press conference following the revelation that the unmanned God Arc Soldiers were actually being powered by the victims of the Red Rain and that they were never treating them on Friar, he states that Julius and Dr. Rachel were the ones responsible and that he had nothing to do with it despite still being on Friar when it was happening. One of the people in the audience states that they believed that they were doing it under Grem's orders, infuriating him and demanding to know who exactly he was before the conference footage ended.
  • Pet the Dog: While he is still a Jerkass and unpleasant guy, he still attended Romeo's funeral after he died.
  • Put on a Bus: Following his last appearance in a press conference near the end of the base game, Director Grem never appears again in the plot and was last reported being dealt with by Fenrir HQ for his negligence allowing Rachel to turn Julius into the next singularity. However, when you meet Dr. Leah again in the Rage Burst storyline, she mentions that Grem is doing fine and still supports her in the God Arc Soldier project.

    Dr. Kujo (SPOILER

Sohei Kujo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kujo_0.jpg
Voiced by: Tamotsu Nishiwaki (Japanese) and Christopher Corey Smith (English)
Age: 38

  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: While he wasn't really evil in the original base game's story, he willingly helps bring Rachel's conscience back in the Rage Burst storyline due to his feelings for her.
  • The Heavy: Dr. Kujo may not be a Big Bad per se, but in Rage Burst Dr. Rachel can only proceed with her plans because he devotedly does everything in her place to screw things up, including corrupting the Spiral Tree.
  • Love Makes You Evil: All of his actions are driven by his affection for Dr. Rachel.
  • The Scapegoat: Dr. Rachel helped give Kujo exactly the program that he needed to pilot unmanned God Arc were while asking him to keep her involvement out of it. However, this was later revealed to have been a plot by Rachel since she was able to still use the program to shut down the God Arc Soldiers remotely and led to Romeo's death as a result while framing Kujo for the incident in the process.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: After he successfully manages to bring Dr. Rachel back, she decides to pay him back by devouring him as thanks.

    Feldman

Isaac Feldman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/feldman.jpg
Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto (Japanese) and Kirk Thornton (English)
Age: 29

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: For all of the information-concealing thing his division is conducting that drives all God Eaters of the Far East Branch up the wall (especially because he keeps overworking them at that), he genuinely has humanity's best interests at heart, and is more than willing to admit his screw-ups when Dr. Kujo infects the Spiral Tree and causes Dr. Rachel's soul to be revived. His interactions with Livie are also surprisingly tender, and he is constantly concerned about her well-being.
  • Parental Substitute: For Livie. He took her under his wing after she was rescued from Magnolia Compass orphanage.
  • Perpetual Frowner: He's never seen smiling throughout the game.
