YMMV / God Eater 2

Go To

  • Adorkable: Ciel. Introduced as a stoic member with strict military training background, her attempt to befriend the protagonist and her subsequent interactions are nothing short of endearing. And let's not forget her reaction to Cappy......
  • Anti-Climax Boss: The World Closer, the True Final Boss of Rage Burst. It doesn't really have that many attacks, the attacks it does have are not that difficult to avoid and even if they do hit you it does pitiful damage if you have the appropriate leveled equipment.
  • Awesome Music: Rage Burst has some very good ones.
  • Breather Boss: The Demiurge has an intimidating, downright creepy appearance, but its attacks are predictable, extremely well telegraphed and slow as molasses, giving God Eaters plenty of time to raise their shields. Its saving grace is its damage output, but that means little if it never lands a solid hit. It also tends to expose its weak points with nearly every attack, making breaking its front leg bonds that much easier. Overall, you're more likely to die from boredom fighting Demiurge than to Demiurge itself.
  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome:
    • You'll probably stick with the Blood units as your partners most of the time, largely because they have Blood Power that will aid you in your missions. Julius has "Control", which gives stackable Burst effect to all party members. Nana has "Attract", which functions as Draw Aggro to nearby Aragamis. Gilbert has "Inspire", which raises the team's attack. Ciel has "Intuit", which allows you to see enemies' health and status. Livie has "Kindness" which is an Auto-Revive ability. Then there's Romeo's "Heart" which impairs Aragami senses to prevent them from converging during battle. All and all, they have abilities that others don't, which helps a lot, especially during endgame.
    • Blast Gun is massively popular due to the new ability called "Oracle Reserve", which allows you to store up to 1000 Oracle Points. With this ability, you can even use bullets costing beyond your normal max OP that normally won't be accessible to other type of guns. You can also go crazy with the Bullet Editor without worrying about the OP cost, which gives access to the infamous Meteor Bullet. This is most likely the reason why Blast Gun is removed from the sequel, replaced by Ray Gun instead.
  • Difficulty Spike: Rage Burst has an absolutely nasty one. The very first mission of Difficulty 11 is Suspension Bridge which is a 2 character survival mission of 4 parts. Bad enough that Livie is still subpar during these mission, but worse still is that you have no backup, no link support, and a Chrome Gawain waits at the final phase. It's basically the game's version of a Beef Gate as difficulties 11-15 all feature a crapton of survival mission similar to Suspension Bridge.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • The Impulse Edge is Simple, yet Awesome, being able to confront a wide variety of Aragami (from being able to bash open a Borg Camlann's shield, to being able to ruin a Quadriga's day by hitting the front treads) with relatively little difficulty.
    • The infamous meteor bullet will let you deal more than 100,000 damage against the Aragami. An update patch reduce its power to half, but it's still broken.
    • Blood Rage. Getting to it is difficult, and actually using it is a case of Difficult, but Awesome, but used right, it turns your character into an unstoppable juggernaut. Even worse is if you combine it with the other Game Breakers, since it gives you infinite OP, and reduces lag time between attacks. A definite Purposely Overpowered aversion of Power-Up Letdown.
    • While not as game-breaking as meteor bullet, the Buster Blade's Charge Crush, specifically the Boosted and Finisher variants, also count. Charge Crush by default already provides great damage and range on its own, but while most Charge Crush variants will leave the player vulnerable during the charging time, said two variants provide the player with super armor that will protect the player from knockdowns from all but strong attacks, and also extra damage to weakpoints. With good accuracy and right skillsets, such as Charged Ability Speed (reduced charge time) and Sword Master (further extra damage to weakpoints), they can kill most Aragami in few hits. The best part, if the Blood Arts are combined with fellow Game-Breaker Blood Rage, they can kill even the most powerful Aragamis in one or few hits with the right setup. Is there any wonder why Charge Crush is severely nerfed in the sequel?
  • Harsher in Hindsight: A DLC mission (included in the Updated Re-release) titled "A Promise to be Fulfilled" features Yuno, Satsuki and BLOOD going on a picnic (Or what's left of BLOOD anyway). It reveals that the picnic mentioned earlier in the story, which we never got to see, was interrupted because BLOOD was ordered to deploy. All of them then promised to continue the picnic some other time, which makes Romeo's death and Julius's Heroic Sacrifice all the more tragic.
  • Polished Port: The PC port of God Eater 2: Rage Burst runs at beyond 1080p, can run at 60 FPS, and comes with the HD remake of the first game for free.
  • That One Boss: The DLC Aragami Crimson Orochi. Imagine Gawain, but stronger, faster, and inflicts nasty ailments like poison. It is by far the hardest boss in the entire game, especially if you fight it solo. Not even maximum gears and abilities will prepare you. Just get ready to spam Blood Rage against it. At least Orochi, the weaker version, has decency of only being Difficulty 12 boss.
  • That One Level:
    • Suspension Bridge is a story-required four-mission expedition. Pretty standard, we seen these before - except past the first mission you have NO support, NO link system assistant, the whole time you only have one other party member (who is new to Rage Burst and is thus not as well trained as your usual group), and you have to then beat a Chrome Gawain at the end, who is already a difficult fight WITHOUT having used up three missions worth of consumables beforehand. Welcome to rank 11!
    • Rage Burst adds the GE Festival Anniversary Pack, which has the mission, Jack in the Box. The targets are a Vajra, a Hannibal, a Marduk, and a Chrome Gawain. What makes this so ridiculous is that one, you fight them at Aegis, meaning no room to maneuver, and two, this is a solo mission. Hope you can kill them each before the others show up, otherwise...
