Note: This thread was proposed by Amonimus. I paged them in another post because I forgot to do that in this one.

Adjusting Your Wick Check

A ZCE-magnet that seems to a poster for Chairs, and the soft-split just drags it down further. The description gives more meaning to the trope that isn't reflected by the name, which may be the cause of all ZCE. Could be overhauled to fit the intended use or killed in favor of other tropes it seems to have in mind as Internal Subtropes.

Anyway, I'm in favor of renaming, removing the ZCEs and other Chairs-y examples, and disambiguating the old name between other Glasses Tropes. The Body Language trope suggested could possibly be split off into a separate trope.

Drink Order was another trope that was about a way to indicate a person's personality, and was renamed to Drink-Based Characterization because it was misused in place of Trademark Favorite Food at best and "character drinks something" at worst.

Glasses Pull allows inversions if I'm reading the description right. Why not just expand it even further for any glasses movement?

The capital-h Hero or scientist, to emphasize a point he's trying to make, takes his glasses off or puts them on before delivering a melodramatic line.

I vote to disambiguate or redirect. It's hard to think of a way to define it that isn't covered by Character Tics or other Glasses Tropes.

The soft-split of the page makes it even harder to figure out the point. It overanalyzes this motion to the point of separating how you adjust your glasses... but then it just lists a bunch of ZCE so we can't even verify if this is a real pattern.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

If Glasses Pull allows inversions and everything else is covered elsewhere, then maybe disambiguating without doing anything else would be the best option here. We could tweak Glasses Pull's description if necessary if we did that.

Ah yes, thank you. I guess the slot opened at night as I've expected.

Rename and Disambig (effectively moving to a new name), or merging with Glasses Pull, are the options I haven't thought of. About the latter mainly becauss the two are completely different motions with different purpose, so I don't see it as an inversion.

I think my preferred course of action would be to rename Adjusting Your Glasses, remove the "other" category because it's the one most likely to contain chairs-y examples, disambiguate the old name, and transplant any examples that are inversions of Glasses Pull rather than examples of this trope, possibly tweaking Glasses Pull's description if necessary, but not merging Adjusting Your Glasses with it.

[up] Sounds like what I'm hoping for, especially with a description that doesn't look like a normal trope page.

Given the page image of Scary Shiny Glasses, and how adjusting your glasses is usually a precursor to that, some examples might be moved there if it's just "Character adjusts glasses as a precursor"

As it says:

Adjusting Your Glasses — particularly by pushing them up the nose — has an alarming tendency to trigger this trope.

...

And I know there's Smart People Wear Glasses uses where the adjustment is in preparation for a smartness display?

[up] I'm down for moving fitting examples to those two if Adjusting Your Glasses becomes a redirect/disambig without transplanting to a new name.

To clarify, the "inversion" of Glasses Pull right now isn't just pushing one's glasses a bit on their face but (dramatically!) putting them on.

This supposed trope looks pretty chairsy to me and the on-page definitions for the different ways of adjusting glasses seem like a stretch.

I support disambiguation. If adjusting glasses can show many different traits, it doesn't feel like a trope in the modern sense.

Calling crowner in favor of:

  • Turn the page into a disambiguation page between other Glasses Tropes without doing anything else.

The present internal subtropes each correspond to Bespectacled Cutie, Smart People Wear Glasses, Stoic Spectacles respectively, while the trope itself is mainly about Character Tics. If broader, it's just Glasses Tropes+Body Language+Characterization By Action. Not sure how to list them specifically.

Goggles Do Something Unusual's seems to be Smart People Wear Glasses?

Since I finished my most recent project (Obligatory War Crime Scene), I think I'll tackle this next. It probably won't be hard since we stripped it of its trope status completely, meaning most wicks can probably be deleted enitrely, and the fact that a lot of them are ZCEs would make removal easier.

[up]I'm familiar with the character, but I'm not sure what other trope(s) would fit in this case, and I don't see how it's relevant to thish thread. I was kind of running on autopilot at the time because the fact that Adjusting Your Glasses is no longer a trope means most wicks can safely be cut entirely.

[up][up] I don't know the character, so you'll have to judge for yourself if the removed wick fits any other tropes.

[up][up][up] I didn't do it, but maybe I can parse out an explanation as to the difference. If this is something Emma does regularly (pulling her glasses down to give an explanation), then it's a Character Tic. Smart People Wear Glasses is more a point that, if you wear glasses, you are automatically smart. Emma's glasses are less "I wear these, indicating that I am smart" and more "these are a tool for my job".
