  • Whenever Lea levels up, she does the Gunbuster Pose. More specifically, it is a reference to the level up pose in Terranigma, along with the same joyfull jump and fist in the air.
  • One of the players in the Newcomers' Bridge has the handle "MarauderShields", named after Mass Effect 3's closest thing to a Final Boss and Memetic Badass, Marauder Shields.
  • Apollo is a walking reference to Apollo Justice. Desire for justice, Spiky Hair, tendency to dramatically point at people... Joern even nicknames him Polly, just like Trucy does in Ace Attorney!
  • In Bergen Village, there's an NPC whose only line is "Welcome to Bergan Village". The avatar talking to them starts off saying "hello!" and the like, but part way in they suddenly say "I like swords!"
  • Also in Bergen Village, there's a monk-like character sitting in a warehouse who opens his dialogue by stating that, to become a True Avatar, you must first master all 4 Elements.

  • The Core Drill, Giga Spiral Drill, Galaxy Spiral Drill, Infinity Spiral Drill, and Singularity Drills are all references to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. The trader who provides you with the third and fourth drills? An NPC resembling Simon post-series. And the "Old Man" giving up all of his energy to create the Infinity Drill and turning into a statue is heavily reminiscient of Vegeta or Raoh.
  • The Blue Hedgehag boss is a clear reference to Sonic the Hedgehog - it Spin Dashes and ground-pounds during the fight, and after defeating it you receive two chili dogs, a golden ring, and the "Gotta Go Fast" trophy.
  • If the Hillkat leader miniboss in one of the Autumn's Rise sidequests runs out of reinforcements before he's taken down, the subtitles above him will say "But nobody came... [furious Hillkat noises]". An old version of the game also had a rock you could inspect that said "A rock formation. You're filled with determination."
  • In Basin Keep's Corner Mall you can find one of the many umbrella-wielding NPCs blocking the stairs leading to the third floor. She has this to say about it:
NPC: I'm sorry dear customer but Umbrella Inc. is currently experiencing a... sort of outbreak.
NPC: In order to avoid any residents from getting inf... from having a bad time, we have closed off access to the third floor.
  • There's also an Arms item known as the Gunner's Trigger. Its description says it is "ideal to defend a fortified border against hostile neighbors".
  • One late-game cosmetic item gives you a "Menacing Aura", complete with purple katakana.
  • Should you fight Apollo with the "Sergey Hax" boost on in New Game Plus, he'll recite a speech that references the meme "You Cheated Not Only the Game, But Yourself".
    • By the same token, when C'tron comments on Lea's insane level of damage, Emilie references the "You Get Used to It" meme from Goblin Slayer, complete with a similar Thousand-Yard Stare expression.
  • The questgiver for the "Pumpkin Land Superfun" quest is basically a walking reference to Oogie Boogie.
  • The Excalibro weapon according to it's description is something that "promises victory".
  • Discovering 100% of landmarks in the game awards the Lea the Explorer trophy.
  • In the shopping district of Rhombus Square there is a small chance for one of the cars on the highway to start drifting by all while a Eurobeat track plays in the background.
  • One of the late game armors available for purchase once you have all the materials is something called a Life Fiber Uniform that is said to cause a symbiotic relationship with it's wearer.
  • Some of the options available in New Game Plus have some references to other game series, most notably Witch Time and Devil Trigger.
  • Using the Analysis ability reveals that many of the background Avatars have names taken from pop culture. For example, in the Rookie Harbor quest hub, you can find Avatars named Groot, Aang, Popinski, and S. Hulk.
  • To .hack:
    • Lea being told by Sergey, that she is stuck in a koma, is very reminisicent of humans being data drained.
  • To Kingdom Hearts:
    • The protagonist is a chakram user named Lea.
    • One of the food items is Salty Ice Cream. It comes in the form of a blue ice pop and is described as being "best enjoyed at sunset on top of a clocktower."
    • The Cursed Sharkster can't be damaged until all of its gold is beaten out of it and put into a treasure chest, just like the Grim Reaper in Kingdom Hearts II.
    • A modifier that makes it so that item use can't be interrupted by enemy attacks is called Leaf Bracer, after a recurring ability from the games that does the same for healing spells.
  • To Final Fantasy:
    • One item is a phoenix feather, the description of which states that it, despite popular belief, does not cure death.
    • The achievement for gaining the Lightning element is called Lightning Returns.
    • One of the game's bosses is a stronger version of the Behesloth enemies named Sephisloth. One of its attacks has it slash Lea with what looks like a very long sword, and the achievement for defeating it is called "The None-Winged Devil."
  • To Overwatch:
    • The "Reporting for Duty" trophy awarded upon obtaining 76% of enemy reports. "We're all reporters now" indeed.
    • The "One Shot, One Kill" trophy for defeating 500 enemies with a single attack each, complete with an icon showing Lea in sniping position a la Widowmaker.
    • One attack pattern for the Tiefsee Angler boss in Gaia Garden's Lost Shrine has it mimic Reaper's ultimate, rapidly spamming Wave projectiles in random directions while screaming "DIE DIE DIE" in the subtitles.
  • To Pokémon:
    • One trading item players can acquire is a Master Ball. Satoshi might also be a reference to the Japanese name of the protagonist of the first generation games and anime.
    • The inn in Rookie Harbor is laid out exactly like a Pokemon Center, and a conversation inside lampshades the resemblance.
    • The Switch console quest involves a capped boy named "Joe the Younger" who spouts Pokémon memes, refers to the propeller-clad Hedgehags as Flying-types, and treats the King Hedgehag as a Mega Evolution. You find him in the aforementioned Inn.
  • An NPC in Gaia's Garden quotes a slightly modified version of the opening lyrics to "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N' Roses.

  • One of the pets that can be bought at the Rhombus Square arena is a fox whose description states that "no one knows what it says."
  • A consumable that can be bought in Rookie Harbor's Weapon & Backer Shop is called the Rising Super Star, which is "a delicious sandwich snack for every Kawaii Gun Jumper."
  • There's an area in Maroon Valley called the "Long Piece" with a bunch of rock platforms shaped like the Tetris blocks.
  • One of the questgivers in Bergen Village is a bearded miner named Turis McEdinthil. Take the first letter of his first name and move it to the end...
  • One of the consumables offered in the Chef Backer Goods shop is Dk Pepper, described as "a mad scientist's ambrosia."
  • A billboard in Basin Keep depicts a man who resembles Vegeta beneath an upwards arrow and the number 9000.
  • One hidden NPC in Gaia's Garden is Zoe, who looks almost exactly like a different Zoe from League of Legends (the appearance was brought on by an Indiegogo supporter who suggested a character inspired by Zoe and League, but it seems like the devs chose to make as close to the real thing as they legally can).
  • The console-exclusive quests and the easter egg they can all unlock together features thinly-veiled cameos of Masahiro Sakurai, Hideo Kojima, Phil Spencer (Microsoft's gaming head at the time) and Gabe Newell.
  • Sao, the fourth wall breaking ninja, directly refers to Animator vs. Animation in his threat to the developers who nerfed him.
  • A recurring NPC who constantly sits on tables is named Nina as a reference to an... infamous scene from Code Geass.
