Fanfic / The Element of Time

Go To

The Element of Time is a fanfiction written by rasEnshur1KEn for Naruto. First published on May 10, 2013, it has since gone on to (as of this writing) 138 chapters (including a prologue, a 'gaiden', and a brief note). Also notable in that the author did everything in his power to keep up with canon and allow it to adhere to canon as closely as possible before eventually being forced to just let it be a complete AU when enough developments in canon unfolded to make it impossible to continue reconciling the two without causing massive continuity headaches.

Starting in the time of chapter 629 of the original manga, the 4th Great Shinobi War has started to become increasingly bleak after the successful reawakening of the Jyuubi. And after the death of Sasuke, plus the death and grievous wounding of everyone else Naruto has ever cared for, Naruto is given the chance to start over and fix everything when Felix Yoshoryuu, a powerful warrior from the land between dimensions and of the same race as the Sage of Six Paths himself (and all who have since inherited his title), arrives and intervenes. Using a powerful seal, Naruto and Felix travel back in time to the night of Naruto's birth, planning to allow Naruto a 2nd chance at life, and at successfully defeating the Jyuubi and various other villains associated with it. Unfortunately, with all the changes that do get made, things only get more difficult when this time travel inspires Raizen Genshukuayatsuri, a powerful ancient enemy from the same dimension as Felix and former friend turned archenemy of the 2nd to take on the mantle of the Sage of Six Paths, gets inspired to get involved himself to attempt to enact a devastating plan of his own. And as things begin to eventually become more and more complicated by virtue of Raizen's plotting, the antics of various other villains from both Naruto's home dimension and that of Raizen and Felix, multiple other people from Naruto's home dimension getting in on the truth of the matter, and various other problems and developments, Naruto, Felix, and everyone else on their side finds themselves going through increasingly tough challenges to save their world from not only the fate it had already just barely avoided before, but also a potentially even worse one.

The work provides examples of:

  • Absurdly Long Stairway: The path that leads to the tombs of Hagoromo and Kaguya Otsutsuki contain one that could honestly rival that of the Jade Palace.
  • Accidental Kiss: Happens between Suigetsu and Karin during Team Kimimaro's fight against Tobi when they happen to crash into each other when Tobi manages to dodge them while they're both charging at him from opposite directions. Also happens between Akari and Daisuke during their Chunin Exams. And of course, people really don't like the memory of how this famously happened between Naruto and Sasuke.
  • Acid Attack: Rick Kesshou is capable of using this via his fog style attacks.
  • Actually A Doom Bot: There are multiple incidents where a character deals a fatal or similarly unpleasant blow to someone, only for said victim to turn out to be a clone of some sort (if not get replaced by something else entirely via substitution jutsu).
  • Actually Pretty Funny: How Team Itachi and Team Kurenai react to Kiba's finding out the Hakus' true gender. Team Itachi and Kankuro's siblings also react in this way upon Kankuro's similarly learning Haku's true gender the hard way. And Zane's comment about Orochimaru's hormones from his time in a female form causing him to perhaps have a crush on Sasuke that's still present despite him being back in a male form is enough to leave Janice and Drakmus fighting not to smirk and James outright bursting out laughing.
  • Adaptation Distillation: Due to this being written before the creation and release of The Last: Naruto the Movie, the moment where Hinata first falls for Naruto is the non-canon moment hinted to be as much in the anime instead of the canon one shown at the beginning of that movie.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Naruto himself, crazily enough proves to be this during the new timeline by virtue of remastering some of his old techniques much earlier this time around, adding his father's Hiraishin jutsu to his repertoire of techniques, and even managing to acquire the Rinnegan.
    • Hinata, by virtue of being allowed the chance at getting her confidence boosted earlier in the new timeline by getting to be on Team 7 alongside Naruto instead of Sakura, further boosting her own strength, plus learning archery, while training in the Elder Dimension, and later on becoming the new jinchuriki for Isobu the three-tailed turtle.
    • Sakura qualifies to, starting with her all but getting forced by Kurenai to face reality and start taking her training seriously and then later culminating in a point where she manages to find a way to create her own means of attaining Sage Mode level power without being granted any Sage Mode training.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • As per the canon of the 'reset' timeline, Jiraiya and Kakashi get involved in Naruto's life as early as Naruto's 1st birthday party.
    • Furthermore, with Zabuza and Haku having been convinced into siding with Naruto during the new timeline's version of the Land of Waves mission, Kisame ends up serving as one half of the duo that end up serving as The Heavy in Zabuza's place.
    • For the sake of being extra prepared for Orochimaru's attempted invasion of Konoha, Tsunade is convinced to return to Konoha earlier in the new timeline than she was in the old timeline.
    • Onoki, Mei, and their respective guards, plus Kurotsuchi, begin to have bearing on the plot much earlier in the new timeline than before; with Onoki initially having Iwa back Orochimaru in the planned invasion before Felix uses the Pulse Imprint Jutsu on him to prevent him from making their efforts during the invasion even harder, and Mei being deliberately invited to attend the final round of the Chunin Exams.
    • The Sound Four (or at least Kidomaru) and Manda also appear as early as Orochimaru's invasion; albeit, not for very long. Han and Roshi, plus their respective tailed breasts Kokuo and Son Goku also appear during said invasion. And for that matter, so do Sasori and Kakuzu.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Due to a large amount of this story having been written prior to her reveal as the ultimate Greater-Scope Villain of the series and Man Behind the Man for Zetsu, Madara, and the Jyuubi, as well as the implied similar nature of the Sinju having already been incorporated into the story as genuine prior to its revelation in canon as a Red Herring, Kaguya Otsutsuki is subjected to this.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Rasa initially ends up at one point being named Hikaru due to the author (and potentially all the other readers of the Manga at the time) still not yet being aware of his true name at the time. He is promptly changed to being referred to as Rasa in later chapters once the author learned of this being his actual name. Izumi also ends up named Azami in this story for the same reasons, but whether or not she herself will get her name changed back to her canon name like Rasa did is still in the air. Finally, the author worked to deliberately avoid this after the Sage of Six Paths (whom he'd initially chosen to name Rikudo Zion) was finally allowed by Kishimoto the canon name of Hagoromo Otsutsuki by changing things up so that Hagoromo was indeed still in existence in the story's version of history while having Rikudo Zion be his immediate successor for the title of Sage of Six Paths.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy:
    • Played with in regards to Gaara. While he does pull the same Heel–Face Turn he did in the original timeline, he ends up doing so earlier in the new timeline than he did before by virtue of being subjected to the Pulse Imprint Jutsu, and also hanging around with Naruto and some other Konoha residents alongside his siblings prior.
    • Neji, thanks to Hizashi being Spared by the Adaptation tries to convince Hinata to withdraw from the Chunin Exams and avoid trying to become a ninja more out of genuine concern for her safety and wellbeing instead of out of hatred towards her and the rest of the Hyuuga Clan main branch members.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Played with in regards to Onoki during his first appearances in this story. In his very first appearance in the new timeline, the news of Zabuza and Haku having joined forces with Konoha combined with the Kyubi's jinchuriki having been involved in their switching allegiance to Konoha convinces him to accept Zetsu's offer to back Orochimaru in his planned invasion of Konoha. However, once Felix gets wind of this and subsequently subjects Onoki to the Pulse Imprint Jutsu, he is perfectly happy and willing to accept Felix's suggestion of pretending to stay loyal to Orochimaru just long enough to then betray him during the invasion and serve as the good guy character he was in the original timeline.
    • In this story's version of continuity, the Sinju is every bit the vengeful sentient Man Behind the Man it was initially implied to be in canon. And it is still so angry at Kaguya for her eating its fruit so many countless centuries prior that it is actively talking to Caius and Raizen via telepathy to ensure that they continue onward with their plans.
  • Adaptational Wimp: The sound four are taken down as early as Orochimaru's attempted Konoha Invasion during the new timeline due to just how much stronger and better prepared the good guys are this time around. To add insult to injury, Kidomaru is the only one the readers get to see get taken out.
  • A God Am I: Raizen.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Brad Kokorotsuisuta ultimately proves to be this after getting captured and interrogated by Drakmus, whom he had implanted the false memories into under Victor's orders.
  • Air-Vent Passageway: Technically garbage disposal tunnel passageway, but the spirit of this trope is present in Zane and James's plans to enter one of Raizen and Caius's minor bases through one of these.
  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: Jiraiya ends up saying a lot more around Kushina then he should when drunk. Also, Tazuna himself proves rather unreliable when drunk.
  • Alien Non-Interference Clause: Felix's given justification for why the denizens of the Elder Dimension very rarely (if ever) involve themselves in the affairs of the other dimensions. A similar rule contained within the time travel seal also forbids Felix from actively fighting anyone that Naruto himself had already fought in the previous timeline, lest it cause the effects of the seal to be cancelled out and undone (although he is able to fight such opponents without undoing the timeline reset as long as said battle occurs in the pocket dimension AOS room).
  • All for Nothing: How Felix initially feels about all his efforts at helping Naruto save his dimension upon realizing that, despite now finally having irrefutable proof to bring to the Elder Dimension council of Raizen being an alive and at large Genshukuayatsuri clan member, Raizen's newly activated seal nullifying all attempts at dimensional travel to or from Naruto's home dimension now means it is too late for him to bring the proof to the council and allow for them to send sufficient extra reinforcements.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Whenever Zurui has a full two or three abilities stolen and incorporated into his own arsenal, he is naturally an example of this. Also, Kabuto manages to combine the powers of Orochimaru, Karin, Suigetsu, Jugo, and the Sound Five into himself. Also, Plasma and Thunder styles are formed through mixtures of basic elemental styles (with the former being a mixture of fire, water, and lightning, and the latter being a mixture of lightning and wind).
  • Alone Among the Couples: Shikamaru finds himself briefly wishing Temari were present at the Konoha Founding Anniversary Festival with him when he notices a large bunch of couples in the same restaurant as him.
  • Aloof Ally: While not everyone would necessarily call him a direct ally, Drakmus chooses to function as this by secretly working alongside his own personal squad behind the scenes to help make things easier for them in the coming battles.
  • Always Someone Better: Implied heavily by Raizen to be the case for Madara in regards to Zion and himself. It is also entirely likely that Obito is well aware of how he's the comparatively weakest compared to Madara, Caius, and Raizen, but is nonetheless biding his time to figure out the exact right moment to make his own move.
  • Amazon Chaser: Sasuke finds himself seriously considering having Sakura as his girlfriend once she manages to prove to him just how much more seriously she's now taking her ninja training under Kurenai's tutelage, and managing to put up a decent fight against him during their Chunin Exam duel despite still being defeated by him relatively quickly. Raizen himself was also this when he was younger. Also, Felix himself was influenced by this tendency when he hooked up with and married Erika, although this was also partially out of a desire to get rid of the fangirls he had at the time.
  • An Arm and a Leg:
  • Anger Born of Worry: The reason why Felix's wife Erika greets him with a Frying Pan of Doom to the face after he finally returns home after an unplanned 13-year absence. Also Naruto's reaction towards Hinata after she finally recovers from an initial rushed job at becoming the new jinchuriki for Isobu the three tailed turtle, plus also what fuels him to give Isobu a rather harsh dressing down to more or less strongarm it into stopping its attempts at resisting its getting successfully sealed into Hinata, and Sakura's reaction to Sasuke after she becomes aware of him having gone out to fight Raizen alongside Naruto despite some serious prior injuries he'd already gotten before not yet being quite fully healed.
  • Animal Jingoism: As can probably be expected, the hawks and snakes that serve as summons most definitely do not get along. This is something that Sasuke hopes to downplay for the sake of allowing at least some of them to be able to tolerate working together in the event he needs to summon both species at once.
  • Animal Motif: Snakes for Orochimaru, foxes for Naruto, sharks for Kisame, dogs and similar creatures for the Inuzuka clan, and crows and ravens for Itachi.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Akari Namikaze, to Naruto.
  • Anything but That!: As Akari and her teammates Daisuke and Kyoshi all eagerly make quite clear when given the option by Sasuke, they'd all much rather gladly accept the chance to take part in the Suna hosted Chunin exams than risk having to go after Tora, the Daimyo's escape prone pet cat, yet again. Also the reaction Akari and Konohamaru have when, despite their immense confidence at not at all possibly getting caught in the act of one of their planned potentially Chunin Exam expulsion worthy pranks, they end up indeed getting successfully caught and threatened with Chunin Exam expulsion. And while it's debatable whether or not this actually is the case in this situation, the fact that Minato woke up from a faint induced by the sight of Naruto with Rinnegan immediately after the suggestion of putting one of Naruto's smelly socks up against his nose in an attempt to wake him was made screams this trope.
  • Appeal to Tradition: The argument given by most of the Hyuga elders in their (ultimately failed) attempts at forcing Hinata to be given the caged bird seal as one of the conditions for her to be betrothed to Naruto.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Felix himself proves to be this over the course of the first 101 chapters (counting the prologue). He gets better after the destruction of Elemental Infinity, his complete and utter curbstomping against Raizen, and a hilariously one-sided duel against Itachi in the AOS room force feeds him some much needed Humble Pie.
  • Ascended Extra: The nameless host body that Orochimaru is using immediately before trying to possess Sasuke in the original timeline is both given a name, and serves a moderately important role over the course of the story as Kin and Haku's teammate under Zabuza.
  • Asian Fox Spirit: Kurama the 9-tailed fox fits the Kitsune version of this trope. There is also Zenko the rinnegan fox summon Naruto creates to use for scouting purposes.
  • Asshole Victim: Fugaku, Drek, Isaac, and various other characters that are either a jerk, villain, or both undergo much deserved punishments.
  • Ass Shove: In the story's 2nd omake, Naruto threatens to subject Isaac to this... WITH HIS RASENGAN!
  • Attack Hello: Felix's wife Erika introduces herself completely out of nowhere with a Frying Pan of Doom to Felix's face.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: Becomes a very common strategy over the course of several battles.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Some of the chimeras Caius creates and summons are pretty darned gigantic, as are many of the automatons created and summoned by Derek. And that's without counting the giant animals amongst the Animal Path summons.
  • The Atoner: Drakmus, once he is broken out of his Brainwashed and Crazy state by the Pulse Imprint Jutsu, separates himself from Felix and everyone else (apart from the members of a small group he later forms to work with him) for the sake of working to make amends for what he did out of a mixture of guilt and feeling that he's no longer worthy of bearing his old name, Markus.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: As awesome as it is for Drakmus to forge his blades with genuine hellfire from the hellfire dimension and seal the most moderate of such fire within that dimension into said blades, it takes an awful lot of time to do so, and he has to be extra certain he maintains full concentration necessary to avoid getting himself horribly incinerated by the hellfire. And even worse, this ends up causing him to only just barely avoid getting trapped in the hellfire dimension via the activated seal designed to nullify all interdimensional travel period while active.
  • Awesome Moment of Crowning: Gaara receives this in the new timeline during his inauguration ceremony to take his father's place as Kazekage.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: They may still not yet quite be an official couple yet, but as demonstrated when Suigetsu screams Karin's name when she's about to be killed by Tobi and Karin does the same to Suigetsu after he's gotten wounded by Hidan, it's very clear that, for all their bickering and getting on each other's nerves, they both very much care for each other. Also, despite her still having not yet forgiven Drakmus for his past crimes against her while he was Brainwashed and Crazy and she was working to defect from Victor's coup, she is noticeably concerned for his safety and prays like mad that he'll exit the Hellfire dimension and return to their own base in time to avoid getting trapped when Raizen has Derek activate the seal designed to prevent interdimensional travel.
  • Ax-Crazy: Zabuza has his moments of this whenever he really gets to go all out in combat.
  • Back from the Dead: Thanks to Xackary, Rasa is resurrected from his death by Orochimaru prior to the Konoha Invasion. Also, despite the heroes' best efforts, Orochimaru and Madara both manage to come back from the dead once more as they did in canon and the original timeline. And as it so happens, Raizen himself is arguably a case of this as well thanks to Caius. And of course, any one reanimated by the Edo Tensei automatically qualifies. And Caius himself is able to become this almost immediately after literally every time he dies.
  • Bad Ass Family: All the clans (both canon and made up for the story). The Namikaze family also counts, naturally.
  • Bad Boss: Orochimaru. Mercilessly killing any and all underlings who fail him? Check. Giving scant, if any, recognition and reward for when they succeed? Check. Casting them aside and leaving them to rot, if not outright throwing them to the wolves once they've either fulfilled their intended purpose or turn out to be completely useless to him altogether? Check and mate.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Thanks to Ceilia's efforts, Sasuke manages to still make use of the powers granted to him by Orochimaru's Curse Mark without having to worry about being taken over by Orochimaru's influence. Felix himself also very much intends to make heroic use of the Gravity Master powers he later turns out to have inherited from his distant ancestor, Raizen himself.
  • Bat Out of Hell: Alex can summon a giant bat for him to ride on made out of his own blood.
  • Battle Aura: Susanoo. Also the kind that the Jinchuriki are capable of using.
  • Battle Couple: The vast majority of the couples (official or otherwise) in this story turn out to be this in some capacity or other.
  • Beam Spam: Rick Kesshou the plasma style wielder is capable of firing beams of plasma from a maximum of all 10 of his fingers at once.
  • Bears Are Bad News: The literally giant panda that Nagato's Animal Path summons qualifies to any it attacks.
  • Berserk Button: Played for laughs with Akari constantly making fun of Sasuke's hair. Played straight, as in canon, with Chouji and being called fat and with Sakura and her forehead or being called flat chested. And of course, Ino will become quite angry if called ugly. And of course, Karin never fails to get annoyed (not to mention punch Suigetsu in the head) whenever he teases her about her former attraction to Sasuke.
  • Berserker Tears: Naruto's reaction to Jiraiya's death in the new timeline, complete with activating his Susanoo and going into a grief induced rage around the training ground he's in at the time.
  • Bestiality Is Depraved: Just about one of the only standards Jiraiya has when it comes to his perverted ways; something he makes quite clear when Tsunade very strongly warns him against trying to cheat on her before their wedding when he's about to leave with Minato to train with the toads at Mt. Myoboku.
  • Be Yourself: The lesson that Kabuto ultimately has to learn before he finally stops his quest to achieve perfection by essentially willingly turning himself into someone he's not.
  • BFS:
    • Raizen dual-wields a pair of truly massive claymores.
    • At least one of Derek's Kinzoku Kyojins dual-wields two appropriately massive scimitars.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Madara and Obito are already around to cause trouble with the Jyuubi from the very beginning of the story, and they still continue to cause trouble over the course of the new timeline. Raizen makes himself a brand new active threat for Naruto and Felix to worry about not too long after the timeline is reset. And he, Madara, and Obito are later joined in by the likes of Orochimaru, Akatsuki, Pain, and various other villains from both Naruto's home dimension and the Elder Dimension.
  • Big Brother Instinct:
    • While Akari can at times be an Annoying Younger Sibling to him, Naruto nonetheless feels rightfully protective of her when it really counts. Gets played up to hilarious extremes in a later omake.
    • Neji also feels this way towards his cousin Hinata. In fact, when he tries to get Hinata to surrender and withdraw from the Chunin exams during the new timeline, it is out of legitimate concern for her health and well being this time instead of out of hatred for her and the rest of the Hyuuga Clan main branch members.
  • Big "NO!":
    • Minato lets out an EPIC one after hearing news of a particularly massive incoming batch of paperwork.
    • Jiraiya after Naruto and Konohamaru get him caught in a particularly unpleasant trap.
    • Orochimaru also lets out one during his battle against Kushina, Minato, and the reanimated Hashirama and Tobirama (whom he himself had summoned from the grave) upon realizing he's about to die.
    • Akari lets out a mental one upon discovering that her first opponent in the 3rd round of the Suna Chunin Exams is none other than Genyumaru.
    • Shukaku lets out this, mixed with Rapid-Fire "No!" upon his defeat against Gaara in their Battle in the Center of the Mind brought about by the visit to the waterfall of truth for the sake of Gaara gaining full control of him just like Naruto had already done with Kurama.
    • Naruto lets out an EPIC one when, despite his efforts at preventing this, Isaac is successfully taught how to rap by Killer B.
  • Big Sister Bully: Sarka Genshukuayatsuri towards Raizen. She comes to THOROUGHLY regret this when, among other punishments, she ends up amongst the Edo Tensei Caius summons during the battle at Uzushiogakure.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Kakuzu's reaction to finding out about Jess's death, and his subsequently ending up stuck with having Hidan as his partner.
  • Big "WHY?!": Kushina lets out one at her bad luck when Naruto ends up epically beating her in a game of poker.
  • Bio-Augmentation: Just like before, Kabuto subjects himself to this. Caius also takes part in this.
  • Birds of a Feather:
    • As Jugo points out after Fuu's funk over having been displaced from her old home of Takigakure and forced to live in Konoha instead lest she be killed due to her both being a jinchuriki and Takigakure having now decided that her serving as their weapon isn't worth getting attacked by the Akatsuki rubs him the wrong way one time too many, she and Kimimaro technically qualify as this. For while Kimimaro himself isn't a jinchuriki, he was treated not entirely that differently from one by his own clan when he was younger for unknown reasons. This proves enough to make Fuu feel genuinely chastened by her behavior.
    • Akari also shares this dynamic with both male members of her Love Triangle. She and Konohamaru are both unrepentant pranksters, whereas Daisuke shares her prodigy level smarts and tendency to put her entire heart and soul into all her efforts.
  • Black Comedy Animal Cruelty: Isaac's use of wasabi to create a very unpleasant surprise for the Inuzuka clan's dogs when they attempt to raid their owners' fridges.
  • Black Eyes of Evil: Drakmus's sclera turn pure black when he assumes his dragon form.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: As well as being a Rubber Woman, Jess can also cause her hands to convert into flesh colored blades. It is with this power that she manages to kill Felix's brother Kyle after having already been fatally crushed by him.
  • Blade Spam: Zane's weapon, Zyuu Shapu-En, aka. Ten Sharp Flames, comes with exactly ten blades.
  • Blind Seer: Drakmus's ally, James, is this thanks to possessing a vastly upgraded version of the Miraiyochigan.
  • Blood from the Mouth: Happens multiple times to multiple characters after suffering severe wounds.
  • Blood Knight: Genyumaru is a self admitted one, though he thankfully doesn't kill needlessly. Akari also shows signs of this every now and then. And then there's The Big Guy of Drakmus's four-man band, Zane Kogosei.
  • Blood Magic: A variation of this is the signature specialty of the Chihanshu Clan.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Akari shows shade of this at the start of the 2nd stage of her Chunin Exams, something that prompts Daisuke into Putting A Hand Over Her Mouth to try to prevent her from making an instant enemy out of all the other teams that made it to this stage. Drakmus's ally, Zane Kogosei, also serves as this.
  • Bound and Gagged: Hinata ends up like this over the course of a short lived attempt by one of Drakmus's mooks to kidnap her during the Konoha Founding Anniversary Festival.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Markus/Drakmus first appears in the story in this state, thanks to his memories having been manipulated to turn him against Felix (his close friend that was almost like a surrogate brother to him) by his own secondary adoptive father.
  • Break the Haughty: A mixture of the destruction of Elemental Infinity, Raizen utterly wiping the floor with him, and his own subsequent hilariously one-sided duel against Itachi in the AOS room forces Felix to face reality over how arrogant he'd become after first helping Naruto turn back time as well as how truly weak and disadvantaged he'd allowed himself to be without Elemental Infinity.
  • Broken Pedestal: Kimimaro's (quite understandable) feelings towards Orochimaru once Jugo manages to get it through his head how Orochimaru only considered him nothing more than an expendable pawn to be sacrificed for his own gains, and also lied about his promises to cure Jugo of his rages.
  • Broken Tears: Naruto's reaction in the prologue after receiving confirmation of the deaths of everyone he's ever cared for relatively not too long after the death of Sasuke.
  • Brought Down to Badass: Felix undergoes this after the destruction of Elemental Infinity. Nagato also undergoes this after Madara reclaims his rinnegan and Naruto is forced to transplant an unfamiliar second pair of such eyes into him.
  • Brutish Bulls: The giant ox amongst the Animal Path summons is present in this story.
  • Butt-Monkey: Quite a few characters have misfortune befall them multiple times in varying capacities.
  • Canon Foreigner: Raizen and Felix, obviously, as well as everyone else from the Elder Dimension who isn't either a Tailed Beast, or a member of the Otsutsuki clan. Also Akari Namikaze, Naruto's little sister in the new timeline.
  • Carry a Big Stick:
    • Victor's weapon of choice is a war hammer.
    • One of the gorillas Akari proves capable of summoning likes to wield a hammer.
    • Naruto uses his Asura Path powers to create a war hammer for himself called Taitannoshuen, which lightens itself while being swung but reverts to its very heavy natural weight when striking, strictly for the sake of countering against Raizen's super tough armor.
    • Konohamaru gains a weapon from the monkeys that is a mix between a hammer and an axe.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: As Hinata points out to him during the days leading up to the end of their training in the Elder Dimension, Naruto has retained his possession of this from the old timeline over the course of the new one.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: In the Elder Dimension, there is Isaac. Having had the Tamashi Kensaku Me implanted in him and not been as lucky as Ceilia, he's not entirely all there to say the least. To emphasize how much of a number the implanting did to him, he once tried to plant chickens to grow eggs, and he also honestly thought he'd been turned into nuts when Ceilia called him nuts (and is, as a result, now deathly afraid of squirrels). He also, as explained by Felix's daughter Vanessa, doesn't understand expressions, believes the most obvious lies, always uses the most insulting nicknames unrepentantly to refer to people without giving a damn about consequences, and always randomly states every thought that comes to his mind.
  • Co-Dragons: Despite being initially Raizen's right and left hand men (with the latter doing double duty after the former's becoming no longer Brainwashed and Crazy) Caius considers him and Raizen more like this rather than either of them being superior to the other.
  • Colony Drop: Madara attempts to pull this with two giant meteors during his first battle against Minato. Then this happens again with 10 meteors after the Floating Continent Raizen had created with his Gravity Master powers for use as Akatsuki's latest temporary hideout ends up falling down towards Konoha after Raizen and the Akatsuki leave.
  • Color-Coded Elements: For the sake of Color-Coded for Your Convenience mentioned below:
    • Red = Fire
    • Blue = Water
    • Yellow/Gold = Lightning
    • Green = Wind
    • Brown = Earth
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: The Yoshoryuu clan members always go by the following pattern to list their levels of proficiency with each of the five chakra elements: Hair color indicates the element they have the highest proficiency for, eye color indicates their 2nd strongest elemental proficiency, the color of a tattoo on their right hand indicates the element they have proficiency that's equal parts strong and equals parts weak, the color of their pants indicates their second weakest elemental proficiency, and the color of their shirts indicate the element they have the lowest proficiency in.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: Any who wield the power of the Miraiyochigan (aka. Future Sight Eyes) are capable of seeing a full 10 seconds into the future. But every time this power is used, the user has to wait twice that amount of time in order to be able to use it again. A more powerful version of this is Omoikane, which allows the user to see a full minute into the future, but at the cost of having to wait half that time to recharge after every usage.
  • Confusion Fu: During Lee's battle against Caius, Caius makes the mistake of accidentally getting Lee drunk, at which point Lee starts pulling this trope off against him like he did with Kimimaro in the old timeline.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Zabuza's awareness of this trope is what convinces him to let Haku meet up with Itachi and Naruto after reading the letter they send him explaining his reawakened memories of the old timeline, thus leading up to Zabuza and Haku's mutual Heel–Face Turn.
  • Conveniently an Orphan: Danzo's usual preference for his ROOT agents, including, naturally, Sai and Kyoshi.
  • Cool Sword: Felix's blade, Elemental Infinity, which grants him unlimited chakra while wielding it. Naruto also has a sword given to him by Felix named Tempest Cutter that can absorb and store chakra (until it gets destroyed by Drakmus during Orochimaru's attempted invasion of Konoha; but even after that, the blade is able to be reforged thanks to the hilt remaining unbroken, until it then gets destroyed again). This later gets replaced with a brand new sword named Seishinhoruda that can channel and release chakra, and even automatically dispel Edo Tensei corpes. And just like in the old timeline, Kisame and Zabuza still have Samehada and Kibikiribocho (respectively). And then there's the one that Akari gains from the monkeys that also has a shuriken attached to a long chain attached to it so that it can function similarly to both an ordinary shuriken and a chainsaw.
  • The Corrupter: Drek hopes, under orders from Raizen, to be this to Sasuke by using the Pulse Imprint Jutsu to restore Sasuke's memories of how he turned out in the old timeline under the hopes that Sasuke will Go Mad from the Revelation similarly to how he did in canon and turn against Konoha like he did before as a result of his subsequent rage. Unfortunately, neither he, nor Raizen, had counted on Sasuke ending up instead being emboldened to deliberately avoid ever going down that dark path. And it is later revealed that the Sinju ended up acting as this to Kaguya Otsutsuki when she sealed its mind inside her own.
  • Covered in Gunge: Naruto, after accidentally getting himself caught in a booby trap prank meant for Ebisu that Akari and Konohamaru had set up.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Chiyo already had puppet prosthetic arms ready just in case Kankuro lost any arms, a fact that Kankuro lampshades.
  • Creepy Crows: As in canon, Itachi can summon crows and form clones of himself made out them. However, due to him not joining up with Akatsuki this time, they're only truly creepy to his enemies.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: As insane as Isaac became thanks to the implanting of the Tamashi Kensaku Me, he is more than capable of holding his own in combat. In fact, times of battle are arguably the few times he starts taking things seriously despite his insanity.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: After fighting a glaringly onesided battle against Sasuke following his second failed attempt at corrupting him into turning against Konoha once again, Drek ends up both impaled AND electrocuted at the same time with Sasuke's Rasenlance.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Happens so many times (especially during the earlier chapters of the story) that it's very difficult to list them all.
  • Cyanide Pill: Drakmus's mook that tries (and fails) to kidnap Hinata during the Konoha Founding Anniversary Festival attempts to take one of these after Naruto intervenes and foils his efforts, but Naruto successfully stops him before he can do so.
  • Dance of Romance: Happens between multiple pairings at Jiraiya and Tsunade's wedding. The majority being official couples, although there is also Konohamaru and Hanabi dancing together as well.
  • Dark Is Evil: Raizen; black hair, black armor, power over gravity, and he's one of the big bads. Drakmus also initially serves as this while Brainwashed and Crazy.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: On the flipside, we have Sasuke, who uses the powers granted to him by Orochimaru's curse mark for good this time around instead of for evil. Drakmus also applies once he's no longer Brainwashed and Crazy.
  • Death by Adaptation: Samui's brother Atsui is successfully killed via impalement through his heart by Derek... until he is revived by Nagato later.
  • Death Is Not Permanent: A rare non-video game example can be found in Caius, whose natural Shikokkyo powers are so strong that he can endlessly resurrect himself literally every time he dies or gets killed.
  • Death Seeker: Raizen himself is arguably this, wanting the peace and freedom from his vast amount of accumulated inner pain that death would allow him. Initially achieved this goal by willingly letting his former good friend Rikudo Zion, aka. the 2nd sage of six paths, defeat and kill him in their punishing battle centuries ago. But after he was unwillingly resurrected by Caius and noticed how the peace that Zion had brought about ultimately didn't last, he now hopes to once again die, but this time through him being properly killed by a brand new Worthy Opponent instead of through throwing the fight a 2nd time. Kimimaro also briefly becomes this after being sent over the Despair Event Horizon twice in a row before being talked out of it by Naruto and Jugo.
  • Death Wail: The reactions shown by Naruto, Minato, and Tsunade (among others) after receiving news of Jiraiya's death in the new timeline.
  • Demoted to Extra: While he didn't necessarily play too big of a role in the original timeline, Mizuki only gets a brief scene during Orochimaru's attempted invasion of Konoha of trying to steal the same scroll he'd had Naruto try to steal in the original timeline before he is then caught, and presumably either captured or killed, by Zabuza. The Sound Four get this treatment as well during the invasion by virtue of Kidomaru being the only one to appear 'onscreen' before being killed by Kakashi while Tayuya, Jirobo, and Sakon and Ukon are all Killed Offscreen (although they all manage to physically appear later in the story as Edo Tensei). Sai, Ino, and Choji also get arguably the least to do in the story out of the entirety of the Konoha 13. And Yamato only ever gets a passing mention of being involved in the plot every now and then.
  • Designated Girl Fight: Moegi and Yukata (Matsuri's female teammate) undergo this during the final round of the Suna hosted Chunin Exams, and so do Matsuri and Kin. And then Moegia and Matsuri fight each other later in the same round.
  • Despair Event Horizon: During the redo of his 1st birthday party, Naruto clearly remembers how the death of Neji very nearly broke him. Also finds himself on the verge of this whenever a death from the old timeline he'd hoped to prevent altogether ends up happening anyway in the new timeline.
    • Played for laughs when Sakura and Ino try to hang themselves after Hinata ends up on Team 7 alongside Sasuke and Naruto this time around. And then again when Ino tries to hang herself after Sakura ultimately ends up getting chosen by Sasuke as his girlfriend.
    • Kimimaro briefly undergoes this after learning of the death of Orochimaru. It takes Jugo breaking it through his head just how meaningless he was to Orochimaru in comparison to get him to shake this off. Naruto himself has to help Jugo break him out of this a second time after he ends up reaching it once more upon learning how Orochimaru didn't work to help cure Jugo of his rages as he'd promised, due to how Kimimaro himself had convinced Jugo to accept Orochimaru's nonexistent help in this matter.
  • Destination Defenestration: The fate that Sakura ends up threatening Koharu and Homura with after one attempt by them too many to try to force Itachi (despite him quite thoroughly outranking them as Hokage) into killing Fuu as Takigakure demands instead of harboring her and giving her sanctuary in Konoha like he plans. This threat proves enough to get them to back down.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Yes, the ninja world has indeed knowingly accepted all out war against Raizen and the Sinju.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Sakura really emphasizes her newly increased strength by successfully destroying one of Derek's prize Kinzoku Kyojins.
  • Dimensional Traveler: Felix and the vast majority of other Elder Dimension inhabitants are this, as can anyone they teach in the art of such travel until Raizen temporarily puts such travel on hold with a powerful inter-dimensional travel blockage seal.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Anyone capable of earth release or dust style. Sakura herself develops this power in the new timeline.
  • Do with Him as You Will: Once Naruto has used his Path powers to get ahold of necessary information from Danzo, he leaves Danzo to the mercy of Nagato.
  • The Dragon: Drakmus/Markus initially serves as this (even referring to himself as the right hand man of Raizen). He is later replaced by Caius once he is no longer Brainwashed and Crazy.
  • Dragons Are Demonic: The half demon Markus/Drakmus invokes this with his ability to cause his limbs to take on a form that heavily resembles those of a dragon, as well as his power to turn into a demonic, humanoid wolf-dragon hybrid.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: The Sound Four/Five are defeated anticlimactically easily during Orochimaru's attempted invasion of Konoha during the new timeline (and to add insult to injury, Kidomaru is literally the only one whose battle and defeat gets shown to the readers). Manda is also killed off in the new timeline even earlier than he was in the original timeline after only a single brief scene.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Inverted in the case of Sakura getting mistaken for a boy by Isaac.
  • Dynamic Entry: Not too long after Felix, Hinata, and Naruto arrive at the Yoshoryuu Clan compound in the Elder Dimension and meet/reunite with Felix's older brother Kyle, Felix's wife arrives completely out of nowhere in time to bang Felix in the face with a Frying Pan of Doom. And right on cue after Chiyo mentions bringing along some help when she arrives to help Kankuro against Sasori, none other than Sakura comes falling down from the sky in time to deal a devastating punch against the Akatsuki puppet user. Sakura also repeats this same style of entrance when she ends up doing battle with one of Derek's Kinzoku Kyojins.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Caius shows up as an Elder Dimension-born reserve Akatsuki member during a meeting between the Akatsuki members at the end of chapter 38. The fact that he is described in his first appearances prior to his name being revealed as looking a lot like Xackary serves as a strong indicator of his powers.
  • Eldritch Location: The Elder Dimension. The very first dimension in existence, it is completely separate from all the other dimensions (Naruto's home dimension included) that have since come into existence, much like branches spreading out from the trunk of a tree.
  • Elemental Weapon: With the right elemental chakra getting added into it, the Rasengan can be transformed into a Rasenshuriken, Rasenlance, a Rasenmace, and a Rasenbomb. There is also the Rasenrocket, which is formed by combining the chakra of fire, wind, and earth together into a single rasengan-based elemental weapon (and the rasencannon, in which only earth and wind chakra are combined together). And Felix has managed to successfully combine four elemental chakras together into a single rasengan-based weapon. And Hinata herself has managed to create a sword out of a rasengan elemental chakra combination.
  • Embarrassing Nick Name: Kurama's feelings towards Naruto's chosen nickname for him; Fuzzbutt. Sasuke also thoroughly hates being called Chicken-Butt Sensei or Duck-Butt Sensei by Akari because of his hair.
  • Empathic Environment: Lampshaded by Naruto when it starts raining after Sasuke's death at the beginning of the story prior to the reset.
  • The End of the World as We Know It: Raizen plans to actively invoke this with the intention of remaking the world as he sees fit afterward.
  • Enemy Mine: Obito deliberately invokes this for the sake of getting Orochimaru to help him secretly work against Raizen, despite Orochimaru actively plotting against Akatsuki at this point. Similar justification is given for Orochimaru teaming up with post Brainwashed and Crazy Drakmus's team later on.
  • Energy Weapon: Rick Kesshou is capable of creating weapons out of plasma energy for him to wield in battle.
  • Enraged by Idiocy: Karin and Suigetsu both get quite ticked off by Tobi's antics over the course of Team Kimimaro's fight against him. Caius is also this in regards to the antics of Obito's Tobi persona, as he views the act to be pointless due to just how many people he knows are already aware of 'Tobi's' true identity.
  • Epic Flail: One of Genyumaru's secondary weapons of choice.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Becka Hekireki genuinely loved her superior Rick Kesshou. Naturally, she does not take it well when she learns of his death.
  • Everybody Cries: Multiple characters understandably start crying in grief after receiving news of Jiraiya's death in the new timeline.
  • Every One Has Standards: Jiraiya may be a complete perv, and be more than willing and eager to act out on his perverted tendencies towards just about any attractive single lady he sees, but he most definitely draws the line at trying to have sex with animals.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Drek's reaction when Sasuke doesn't respond the way he'd hoped he would after getting his memories of the old timeline restored.
  • Exactly What I Aimed At: Tobi realizes this the usual way one tends to realize this trope when the battle axe Jugo is wielding in Team Kimimaro's fight against him, which he thought had completely missed him, was actually able to also slice through a nearby tree and send it falling towards him.
  • Exact Words: As Kushina points out, the rules of the time travel seal state that Felix must always stay in the same dimension as the one who cast it (in this case, Naruto) the entirety of the time it takes to reach the point where the seal was cast in the original timeline in order for the seal to not be undone. Therefore, this means that he can in fact return to the Elder Dimension as long as Naruto travels with him.
    • Drakmus also invokes this against Brad as follows in regards to the evidence he has found that could allow him to suffer proper justice for his war crimes from Victor's failed coup:
Brad: But, you said...you said that you would let me go if I...
Drakmus: Correction, I said I wouldn't kill you. Making you pay for your crimes through the justice system, that is an entirely different matter.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: The bloodline power of Drek, and all members of his clan.
  • Eye Scream: Several dead Uchiha fall victim to this by getting their eyes removed for Obito or Raizen's plans. Shikamaru also nearly falls victim to this by virtue of getting tabasco sauce filled water balloons thrown in his eyes by Team Sakura over the course of their efforts at asking him for necessary intel for their Chunin Exam test. And in his last moments of life, Jiraiya is able to successfully use his fingers to gouge out Raizen's right eye (which allows him Combat Clairvoyance) immediately after tricking him into wasting his Sarutahiku ability on a rasengrenade. And later, Nagato himself falls victim to this as well when Madara finally reclaims his own Rinnegan from him immediately after achieving full resurrection from Edo Tensei mode.
  • Face Death with Dignity: How many warriors of the Naruto world and Elder Dimension prefer to go out.
  • Fast Ball Special: During his and Kimimaro's battle against Kakuzu, Jugo pulls off an improvised version of this by blasting Kimimaro in the back with an immensely strong burst of lightning in time to send his friend rocketing straight at Kakuzu before the two masks that try to block him have fully gotten into position.
  • Feathered Fiend: One of Naruto's summons is a Roc, a humongous bird of prey.
  • Fiery Red Head: Kushina, Akari, and Karin. Gaara as well whenever he's actively fighting anyone. And while his hair is technically orange rather than red, Jugo himself counts as this when in the midst of one of his rages.
  • Floating Continent: Thanks to Raizen, the Akatsuki are able to take shelter in one of these (although technically, it's a small island) positioned directly above Konoha. They are able to stay hidden like this just long enough to successfully extract Son Goku and Kokuo from Roshi and Han.
  • Foe-Tossing Charge: Borace and Choza take part in such attacks over the course of the 4th Great Shinobi War Take Two.
  • Forgets to Eat: Naruto noticeably appears to only eat the bare minimum he needs (with ramen no less) while grieving for Jiraiya yet again.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Despite all his training, Naruto proves ultimately still not yet strong enough to successfully defeat the Jyuubi and save everyone at the beginning of the story. And if it hadn't been for Felix's timely arrival, Madara and the Jyuubi would very likely have won altogether.
  • Fragile Speedster: Haku.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Naruto's ultimate opinions on Inari's defeatism.
  • Freudian Threat: Mebuki and Kizashi (but particularly Mebuki) make it clear that this is what Sasuke can expect them to carry out against him if he ever hurts Sakura in any way, shape, or form. Hiashi, Hizashi, and Neji likewise threaten Naruto in this fashion to ensure he treats Hinata right (the first of those three doing so with a freaking KATANA no less!).
  • From the Mouths of Babes: Thanks to Sasuke, Akari already knows the word 'shit'...at 9-years old.
  • Frying Pan of Doom: In her very first scene, Felix's wife Erika bangs him mercilessly in the face with one of these hard enough to leave a silhouette of his face in it at the very end of the beating to act out her Anger Born of Worry resulting from him being gone for 13 years due to his not being aware of the loophole that would have allowed him to visit sooner.
  • Fusion Dance: Kisame can pull this with Samehada to turn into a Threatening Shark.
  • Future Me Scares Me: After Drek restores his memories of the old timeline in a blatant attempt at corrupting him into turning against Konoha in a rage, the knowledge of said memories, plus his clear understanding of why those who already knew about them tried to keep them hidden from him, proves enough to convince him to remain on the side of good this time around, much to Drek's dismay.
  • Gender Flip: While its gender isn't necessarily made explicitly clear in canon, Chomei was voiced by a man in both the Japanese and English dubs of the anime. In this story, however, Chomei is explicitly made a female to match up with its female Jinchuriki, Fuu.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man:
  • Giant Enemy Crab: The Animal Path still has one of these amongst the summons.
  • Giant Flyer: The summoned dragons, and also the Animal Path's giant bird, plus a Roc that Naruto has amongst his own summons.
  • Giant Foot of Stomping: Tenten notes the Juubi to have these, as she herself had ended up crushed under one of them in the old timeline not too long before the reset. Many of the other Biiju have this as well, and so do the Susanoos. And of course, so do the giant chimeras and the Kinzoku Kyojins.
  • Gilligan Cut: At the very beginning of chapter 27, Sasuke, Haku, Kin, Genyumaru, and the rest of the members of his specific mission group decide to continue their exploring of the Orochimaru base their at just to make sure they didn't miss anything or anyone. When Sasuke points out that he doesn't like leaving Naruto out of his sight for too much longer due to his friend's tendency to get into trouble when he's not being watched over, Haku tries to reassure him by saying that Naruto's luck can't possibly be that bad outside of gambling. Unfortunately, since the previous chapter had literally ended with Naruto, Jugo, and Kimimaro finding themselves up against Drakmus and Sasori...
Naruto: Why is my luck outside of gambling always this shitty?
  • Gods Need Prayer Badly: Discussed between Hidan and Zurui. When the latter points out that his surprise that such a bloodthirsty deity as Jashin wouldn't welcome the ideals and desires of the Sinju with open arms, the former points out that Jashin in fact would not agree with the Sinju's plans at all due to such plans ultimately leaving him with zero sacrifices left to receive for all time afterward if such plans were to successfully come to fruition.
  • Godzilla Threshold: A's planned special technique that he needs Yugito's help with in the event of a last resort. Also the moment where Naruto finally masters a 5-element Rasengan with help from Sasuke and Hinata. Itachi also lampshades this trope to shut down Felix's attempted angry reprimanding towards him for once again going behind his back and allowing a massive number of people to regain their memories of the old timeline without his permission.
  • Going Cold Turkey: Tsunade is forced to spend three whole weeks without drinking her precious sake for the sake of her pregnancy. Naturally, she hates this fact.
  • Gone Horribly Right: After accidentally pissing Temari off during a time in which she's PMSing, Shikamaru manages to briefly escape her by grabbing a random civilian and having their outfits swapped. Unfortunately, the civilian in question was one of the volunteers for providing intel to the Chunin hopefuls for that day's stage of the exams, and he subsequently ends up understandably falling victim to Team Sakura's efforts at gaining necessary intel.
  • Good Parents: Minato and Kushina. In fact, quite a large number of the hero characters' parents prove this way in some fashion or other (with Fugaku being an obvious exception).
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Drakmus's former crush, possibly still future love, and current ally, Janice has three scars across areas of her face (inflicted by Drakmus while he was still Brainwashed and Crazy) that do not at all subtract from her natural beauty. Kakashi and Iruka, likewise, have the 'good' half of this trope.
  • Gravity Master: Raizen. And arguably his entire clan for that matter. And as it later turns out, Felix himself as a result of Raizen being a distant ancestor of his.
  • Gray Rain of Depression: The weather that ends up unfolding immediately after Sasuke's death in the old timeline.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The Sinju is shaping up to be this. It is still so angry with Kaguya for her eating its fruit so many countless eons ago that it is telepathically communicating with Caius and Raizen to ensure that they continue onward with their plans so that it can use said plans to vicariously achieve the vengeance it has desired against Kaguya for so long.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Raizen manages to pull this during his battle at the 5 Kage Summit by grabbing one of Gyuki's tails and using it to swing him and B into smacking aside Matatabi and Yugito. Sakura later pulls off a similar trick by using a giant chimera that tried to interrupt her fight against a Kinzoku Kyojin as a bludgeon against the giant automaton's chakra shields.
  • Groin Attack: Becomes somewhat of a Signature Move for Akari.
    • The first time it happens, she accidentally subjects Kankuro to one of these when her forehead crashes into that area while she and team Ebisu (which retroactively ends up being Team Sakura instead) are trying to flee from an angry Naruto.
    • Later deliberately jumps on Naruto's groin to wake him up in time for the final round of the Chunin Exams.
    • Also deliberately stomps on and kicks the groins of some Iwa genin who are trying to capture or kill her for vengeance against Minato for actions he committed against Iwa during a time of war.
    • She ends up forced to do this to Konohamaru at least 5 times when they're forced to act as 'puppets' in a puppet show by Kankuro as a punishment for their recent string of pranks in order to avoid getting expelled from the Chunin Exams.
    • And during the final round of her own Chunin Exams, she ends up accidentally subjecting Haku to one of these when she attempts to kick him somewhere else, only to miscalculate right as she's starting her attack, causing her foot to swing at his groin instead.
    • She even manages to temporarily program Kankuro's prosthetic puppet arm to punch himself in the groin.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Almost happens to Hidan after getting hit by a Rasengan from Minato while Minato is in sage mode. Does successfully happen to Nagato's Preta Path at the hands of A.
  • Handicapped Badass: James Shenken-Sha, one of Drakmus's allies in his four-man band, is completely blind to all but the visions of his vastly upgraded Miraiyochigan as a result of said upgrades, but can still very much kick ass when it counts.
  • Happily Married: Minato and Kushina, Asuma and Kurenai, Felix and Erika, Jiraiya and Tsunade (until the former's death by Raizen), Hayate and Yugao, etc.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: Deidara and a resurrected Orochimaru.
  • Head-in-the-Sand Management: The Elder Dimension's council in regards to (initial) rumors of a Genshukuayatsuri clan member still being alive and at large, since they are too afraid of what it would mean if said rumors are true. And even when they do allow additional assistance to Felix and the people of Naruto's dimension, prior to Raizen's blocking out further interdimensional travel that is, they only provide more or less the bare minimum. Although this is partially a result of Raizen himself using his Sharengan to keep them complacent enough to only be capable of realizing he's in fact truly what he is if able to witness indisputable proof.
  • He Cleans Up Nicely: Just about all the good guy characters (male or female) seen attending the festival for the anniversary of Konoha's founding turn out to be this while dressed in their formal kimonos.
  • Heel–Face Turn:
    • Arguably, Itachi, by virtue of the Uchiha coup never happening, him becoming Team 7's sensei in Kakashi's place, and never joining Akatsuki over the course of the new timeline.
    • Zabuza and Haku as well, thanks to surviving the Land of Waves mission this time around. Kin Tsuchi as well.
    • The entirety of Team Taka, plus Kimimaro, end up doing undergoing this as well due to Naruto and the gang managing to arrange for them to be busted out of Orochimaru's hideouts after Orochimaru's death in the attempted invasion of Konoha.
    • Drakmus himself, after finally being broken out of his Brainwashed and Crazy state.
    • Once he finally gets it broken through his thick head that Perfection Is Impossible, Kabuto accepts a possible answer for his Journey to Find Oneself by working to help the side of good against Raizen.
  • HellFire: Amaterasu. Drakmus/Markus also proves capable of manipulating his own version of this (appropriately titled Hellfire style).
  • He-Man Woman Hater: The men of the Chihanshu Clan are basically AN ENTIRE CLAN of this, treating their women and girls like cattle or lowly servants and placing seals upon them that blatantly deny them the ability to use their chakra or Kekkei Genkai. Quite thankfully, this has understandably robbed the entire clan of any reasonable chance of women outside their clan ever marrying amongst them, leaving them forced to marry exclusively amongst their own kind, which naturally leads to rampant inbreeding, putting them on an increasingly fast one-way train to extinction.
  • Heroic RRoD: Matsuri's Banshee Shriek jutsu, while powerful and quite devastating against enemies, can also cause serious damage to the interior of her throat and vocal chords if used often enough. And of course, there are plenty of particularly high-power techniques that can result in bleeding from the eyes, nose, or elsewhere. And there's still the risk of complete blindness resulting from the Sharengan. And of course, chakra exhaustion is very much a real and present danger.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: As can be expected in the world of Naruto, this happens multiple times.
  • High-Heel–Face Turn: Kin Tsuchi, Karin, and Konan undergo this (with the last of those three doing so somewhat earlier than in the original timeline).
  • High-Voltage Death: Drek undergoes a mixture of this and Impaled with Extreme Prejudice at the hands of Sasuke during Orochimaru's attempted invasion in the new timeline.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • During his attempted Konoha invasion during the new timeline, he summons Hashirama and Tobirama via the Edo Tensei. They end up participating in Kushina and Minato's battle against him and also participate in killing him alongside Minato and Kushina (plus Gamabunta) at the end of said battle.
    • During Minato's battle against Obito on the Floating Continent temporarily being used by the Akatsuki as a hideout, Kakashi invokes a variant of this by having Minato try to use a rasengan against Obito, knowing that Obito will use Kamui to send it away...allowing Kakashi himself to then use Kamui as well so that the Rasengan will end up causing internal damage to Obito anyway.
    • In an omake, Isaac attempts to pull an epic prank on Naruto and Akari by trapping them in a house with Tora the cat (and after said cat has gotten hopped up on catnip no less). Unfortunately, Naruto and Akari not only obviate this prank by teleporting out, but they also promptly teleport Isaac inside the house and leave him stuck in his own trap.
    • Raizen manages to twice (or maybe thrice) get some of his own techniques used against him during his Big Badass Battle Sequence against the attendees of the 5 Kage Summit.
    • Zurui himself arguably falls victim to this as a result of him being successfully tricked into causing his own seal induced Power Parasite powers to cause him to lose the powers he'd already stolen from Haku, Genyumaru, and Hinata and get them replaced with both of Felix's bloodline limits, plus Akari's. All three of these new powers ultimately prove useless to him in his subsequent solo fight against Haku due to him viewing the Elemental Powers as too basic for him to bother using, the Gravity Master powers being far too complex for him to master on the fly, and the wood style powers being hopelessly outmatched against ice style attacks, leaving him helpless to do anything other than desperately put up as much of a futile fight as he can before finally getting killed.
  • Hollywood Hacking: Played with in regards to Janice. In many situations, she can hack pretty quickly. But against the systems in Raizen's base and the encrypted programs she and her team get ahold of from one of said base's computers, it takes a noticeably long while for her to make a dent in them.
  • Honorable Elephant: Naruto has a mastodon amongst his Animal Path summons.
  • Honor Before Reason: Janice demonstrates this by absolutely refusing to let Drakmus give her medical treatment when she's severely wounded from her fight againt Becka and keeping her wounded state hidden from him and their teammates just to spite him for his attacking and trying to kill her years earlier when he was Brainwashed and Crazy and she chose to defect from Victor's coup. It gets to the point that Drakmus has to have Hashirama give her the necessary medical treatment as well as INSIST that Hashirama keep the fact that it was his suggestion a secret so that she won't refuse it.
  • Hostage for MacGuffin: A group of vengeance seeking Iwa genin that attack Team Sakura end up pulling this off by threatening Moegi in order to force Udon and Konohamaru to give up their scrolls for that phase of the Chunin Exams. But then they promptly decide to just kill Moegi and the rest of Team Sakura anyway as payback for two of the Iwa genin having been successfully killed by Team Sakura in self defense. Fortunately for Team Sakura, Matsuri shows up and saves them.
  • Howl of Sorrow: Naruto lets out an anguished roar atthe sky upon reaching a conveniently empty training ground after receiving news of Jiraiya's death in the new timeline.
  • Humiliation Conga: Sasuke sets Akari up to undergo this during her training under him as punishment for calling him Chicken-Butt sensei, culminating in having her undergo Taijutsu training with Gai and Lee (something she very noticeably pales at finding out about). Akari and Konohamaru also set Kankuro up to undergo one of these through his prosthetic arm as revenge on the punishment he had them go through after they got busted for their Suna pranking spree.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Immediately after Karui is revived by Pain, Omoi, who had previously been grieving for her and C after their respective deaths, freaks out and runs away screaming as a result of thinking that Karui is now a zombie. Karui yells at Omoi for his craziness...only to then promptly react the same way he did after she notices C wake up from his own revival.
  • I Did What I Had to Do:
    • Ultimately, as much as he knows Naruto won't like it, Felix allows Hiruzen to be made aware of what's about to happen after he time travels back to the past so that Hiruzen himself will willingly let himself die in the place of Minato and Kushina.
    • Despite knowing how much this action could further complicate matters, the news of Onoki and Iwa getting manipulated into joining forces with Orochimaru and Suna for the planned Konoha invasion leaves Felix forced to subject Onoki to the pulse imprint jutsu so that he will be able to double cross Orochimaru during the invasion and help Konoha instead.
    • For the sake of allowing additional assistance and understanding regarding Sasuke and how he went dark in the old timeline, Itachi uses the Pulse Imprint Jutsu on Kakashi behind Felix's back.
    • The majority of the usages of the Pulse Imprint Jutsu in general, really.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Sakura and Hinata's families make it quite clear that Sasuke and Naruto (respectively) will thoroughly regret it if they ever do wrong to Sakura and Hinata.
  • If You Kill Him, You Will Be Just Like Him!: A variation of this unfolds when Naruto has Deidara at his mercy and considers killing him. Rather than being like Deidara, Naruto and Kurama ultimately decide that him killing Deidara would make them not more like Sasuke from the old timeline (via giving into hatred) than like Deidara himself.
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: While already plenty badass in her own right, Sakura wants nothing more than to be even more so to avoid falling devastatingly far behind her even stronger friends.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Once Felix becomes fully aware of Drakmus/Markus's Brainwashed and Crazy status, all his subsequent fights against Drakmus become this as he desperately works to subject him to the Pulse Imprint Jutsu. He eventually succeeds in this.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: Naruto very much feels this when, despite his efforts, Hiruzen still ends up dying. He later feels this way yet again when Jiraiya ends up still dying as well.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice:
    • As he reveals upon undergoing the Pulse Imprint Jutsu, Shikamaru ended up like this as a result of shrapnel sent his way from the explosion caused by a Bijuu Bomb from the Jyuubi, and had practically minutes at most left to live before the reset occurred.
    • During Orochimaru's attempted invasion of Konoha during the new timeline, Sasuke subjects Drek to a mixture of this and High-Voltage Death.
    • Jess (Raizen's Rubber Woman underling) also falls victim to this due to the three internal organs that contain mass amounts of chakra being her only means of getting defeated.
    • Markus/Drakmus's villainous secondary adoptive father Victor is stabbed clean through the heart by Felix with Elemental Infinity at the time of his death prior to the events of the story.
    • Not too long after getting fatally crushed by Kyle, Jess is able to make use of her last moments of life to stab Kyle In the Back and straight through his heart with her flesh blade powers so that he will die as well.
    • Kakuzu also ends up ultimately being Killed Off for Real when both he and the remaining masked beasts containing his hearts he has at the time all fall victim to this at the hands of a powerful jutsu from Kimimaro.
    • Nagato's animal path falls victim to this as well by virtue of one of A's arms. And as a result of this, all the still alive and present animal summons immediately get dismissed. The Deva Path also falls victim to this, but by means of a bolt of lightning.
    • One of Derek's Kinzoku Kyojins ends up getting one of its own scimitars stabbed between its shoulder and neck by Sakura over the course of its unexpectedly epic battle against her.
  • Important Hair Cut: As in canon, Sakura once again subjects herself to this in the new timeline. This time, she's inspired into doing so by Kurenai's making it clear that she needs to start taking her training seriously and stop putting more focus on impressing Sasuke than on said training rather than getting her hair grabbed and held onto by Kin.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Tsunade's reaction to Minato and Jiraiya using a window to exit the hospital where they're meeting with her instead of the door. Also A's reaction to learning the full story of what's going on after receiving the Pulse Imprint Jutsu.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Sai, naturally. In his efforts at nicknaming Ino and Choji, he very swiftly screws up by calling them Ugly and Fatso, respectively.
  • Insistent Terminology: As Kankuro will freely tell you, it's warpaint, not makeup.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite Naruto's hopes and best efforts, some of the events of the original timeline (and in at least one case, the actual canon outside this story) still end up happening anyway (though some of them differently from how they unfolded originally).
    • To start, Hiruzen still dies. But this time, it's through a Heroic Sacrifice for the sake of preventing the deaths of Minato and Kushina.
    • Despite the successful prevention of the planned Uchiha coup, Obito still gets ahold of the extra sharingan he needs, but this time by both personally killing Shisui Uchiha and stealing his eyes, as well as stealing the eyes of the Uchiha clan members who DID die in the battle that ensued to prevent the coup.
    • For the sake of allowing appropriate bait for trapping Orochimaru at the Kohoha Crush invasion, Naruto reluctantly agrees with Felix's idea to let Sasuke once again get granted the Curse Mark by Orochimaru.
    • While he does so in a duel against Hinata this time instead of against Gaara, Lee still ends up crippling himself with the Eight Gates technique during the Chunin Exams. But fortunately, Tsunade is around to get him recovered and back to fighting condition much earlier this time around.
    • Kabuto once again grafts Orochimaru's DNA into himself like he did before.
    • Thanks to Raizen, Jiraiya once again dies in battle.
    • And despite the heroes' best efforts, Orochimaru and Madara once again come Back from the Dead.
  • Insult Backfire: Happens lots of times around Isaac. Akari also ends up on the receiving end of this when she calls Sasuke an evil jerk for the form of chakra control training he subjects her to.
  • Invincible Hero: In a way, Felix arguably qualifies as this when he has Elemental Infinity in his possession. He later gets Brought Down to Badass and stops being so borderline invincible once Raizen destroys Elemental Infinity.
  • Ironic Echo: After Kin confidently brags during the 1st stage of her team's Chunin Exams about her having become skilled enough at torture during her time as an Otogakure Torture Technician to know automatically when being lied to, Genyumaru makes it clear that he will repeat her exact words right back at her in the event that the code they got ahold of from their interrogation target turns out to be the wrong one (which would mean automatic disqualification for that year's exams).
  • It Can Think: Naturally, any and all animals that serve as summons (with the exception of the ones summoned by the Animal Path). Also, the Sinju is so far appearing to fit this trope exactly as much as it was initially implied to be in canon, and is still angry enough at Kaguya's eating of its fruit to telepathically speak to Cauis and Raizen and goading them onward in their plans. There are also the Kokoro Nusumu parasites, which, despite following their instincts like any animal, have human-level intelligence; a factor that allows them to plead for mercy and successfully form a treaty with the humans who wish to otherwise exterminate them.
  • It's All My Fault:
    • Kimimaro's reaction upon learning that Orochimaru lied about his (ultimately empty) promises to cure Jugo of his rages, as it was Kimimaro himself who had convinced Jugo to accept Orochimaru's empty offer to do so.
    • Daisuke also blames himself for a while for his father's death due to it being a result of his father choosing to outright disregard his training and status as a shinobi for the sake of more time to devote to taking care of him after the death of Daisuke's mother.
    • Felix himself briefly comes to feel this way after just how late he manages to figure out about his actually having inherited Raizen's own Gravity Master powers as a result of Raizen being his distant ancestor.
  • It's Personal: How Zabuza feels towards Kisame due to the latter having foiled Zabuza's efforts in the past at saving Yagura from the one who'd been controlling him. Kisame, however, didn't even know that Zabuza was friends with Yagura, and viewed his actions that provided interference with Zabuza's attempts at saving Yagura as just another job.
  • It's Personal with the Dragon: Between Felix and Drakmus while the latter is serving as Raizen's Brainwashed and Crazy right hand man due to how Drakmus (formerly named Markus) had been Felix's best friend and almost like a brother to him before Markus's own secondary adoptive father tampered with his memories and turned him into a weapon for the sake of a failed coup against Felix's clan.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Over the course of her talk with her and Nagato's deceased mutual childhood friend (and her old childhood crush) Yahiko, Yahiko makes it clear that he is more than ok with her pairing up with Nagato if that means she'll be happy while she's still alive.
  • Jerk Ass Gods: The idea of this trope is brought up by A when he tells Raizen exactly what he thinks of the latter's plans and offer:
A: Regardless, I think you need to go fuck yourself. I'd rather continue living my life as I see fit. I don't need some jackass gods telling me what to do, and neither does anyone else.
  • Jerk Ass Has A Point:
    • As mean about it as he was, Naruto was not entirely wrong about how disrespectful Inari was being in his defeatist attitude regarding heroes (including his own dead dad).
    • As blunt, filterless, and quite frankly insulting as Isaac may be, he's not entirely wrong in his criticisms of Naruto and Hinata when they undergo Taijutsu training from him.
  • Journey to Find Oneself: What Kabuto's own evil plans ultimately amount to when it comes to his personal goals. He so desperately wants to achieve self discovery that he's willing to try to make himself literally perfect by assimilating as many abilities into himself as possible and becoming almost (if not exactly) as powerful as the Sage of Six Paths.
  • Keystone Army: In the event that the Animal Path is killed, all summoned animals present are instantly dismissed. Same principle occurs with Edo Tensei and the one who summons them.
  • Killed Offscreen: All of Kidomaru's fellow Sound Four/Five members. Also heavily implied to be the case for Dosu and Zaku as punishment for their defeats in the Chunin Exam's final round preliminaries and not even doing good enough to get a 2nd chance like Kin did. And depending on just what Zabuza decided to do to him, this may or may not have also happened to Mizuki.
  • Kill It with Fire: Orochimaru's fate at the end of his battle against Kushina, Minato, and the reanimated Hashirama and Tobirama (plus Gamabunta) during his attempted invasion of Konoha thanks to Bunta's oil, Kushina's fire, and Hashirama's wood.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em:
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Any time someone who died in the original timeline gets successfully saved and spared in the new timeline, a villain from the original timeline that could have easily worked as a hero under different circumstances is successfully reformed, or both, Naruto and Felix acquire an extra ally to help them in their cause.
    • Also deliberately invoked by Kankuro when Akari and Konohamaru willingly choose to let him punish them in a way that will allow them to not get expelled from the Chunin Exams for their recent string of pranks. Specifically, he has them put on makeup that makes them look like puppets and take part in a Humiliation Conga laden 'puppet show' (as a direct nod to how one of their pranks involved them stealing his war puppets and using them for a puppet show).
  • Last of His Kind: Raizen is the last living member of the Genshukuayatsuri clan. And he was resurrected no less! Haku is also the last of his clan; a fact that he hopes to later rectify with a little 'help' from a perfectly willing Kin. And of course, Kimimaro also counts as the last of the Kaguya Clan although Fuu might very well be able to help him undo this status.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Akari ocassionally demonstrates signs of this, especially when she's in an enthusiastic hurry to go on a trip for ramen.
  • Legacy Character: Thanks to developments in the manga unfolding after the story first got started, the Sage of Six Paths is retconned into being this for the sake of this story's version of continuity.
  • Legend Fades to Myth: What happened to Hagoromo, Kaguya, and the Shinju over the course of history in this story's version of history.
  • Lethal Chef: Erika Yoshoryuu is heavily implied to this. In fact, if her brother in-law Kyle is to be believed, she once tried to cook a roast chicken without fully plucking it first. And as indicated in the story's first omake, Isaac himself proves to be not that much better by virtue of somehow mishearing stakes as SNAKES and proceeding to neither cook, or even KILL them prior to trying to serve them to Naruto and Hinata for the sake of what's supposed to be a romantic dinner between them. And then there's also Shima (or at least she's this by human standards. Her fellow toads may not consider her this.).
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Drakmus turns into a demonic wolf-dragon hybrid in battle whenever he decides that "playtime is over". And of course, whenever the jinchuriki decide to actively call upon the power and chakra of their respective bijuu.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: Alex and Deidara's silent agreement upon knocking out Isaac and Tobi after catching them just sitting idle and reading and Icha Icha book instead of battling each other like they were supposed to be doing...before they then resume their own battle.
  • Light 'em Up: Raizen is armed with a version of this, which he uses as a finishing blow against Utakata (and, through him, Saiken). And it can be assumed that the 'flash style' wielded by Rick Kesshou alongside his vapor style, and stormstyle makes use of this as well.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Naruto himself, Sasuke, Hinata, Sakura, and Genyumaru, among others.
  • Like an Old Married Couple: As Sasuke thinks to himself about Karin and Suigetsu's constant bickering: "Honestly, why the Hell aren't those two married yet?"
  • Like a Son to Me: How Zabuza comes to feel about Haku.
  • Literal-Minded: Isaac ends up like this sufficiently enough after getting his Third Eye implanted that he ends up genuinely thinking he'd been turned into actual nuts when Ceilia calls him nuts (as in 'crazy'), leading to his paralyzing fear of squirrels. Obito also pretends to be this while acting under his Tobi persona.
  • Living Lie Detector: Karin, a fact that Itachi and Sasuke make damn sure to utilize when interrogating Danzo at one point. Kin herself prides herself on managing to become this over the course of her prior years as a Torture Technician in Oto.
  • Living Motion Detector: Drakmus's ally James is this, as his upgraded Miraiyochigan induced blindness led to him learning and perfecting a technique that would allow him to detect wind displacement of moving objects to the point that he could still dodge as easily as he could if he could still see.
  • Living Statue: The golems created and summoned by Derek.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • Lampshaded by Drek when his opponents in battle work to try to damage him while in his metal body mode by first subjecting it to extreme heat before then rapidly cooling it.
    • A reanimated Tobirama also exploits this trope by casting his Infinite Darkness Jutsu so as to obviate any use of Orochimaru's newly acquired Miraiyochigan.
    • As Felix's brother Kyle wisely notes, Jess can easily be killed by getting crushed to death in the event that you are unable to determine where her three vulnerable chakra storage organs are located.
    • Kimimaro manages to get Tobi to retreat from his battle against him and the rest of Team Kimimaro upon correctly guessing that he can easily be attacked and defeated without worrying about his Intangibility power whenever he's actively trying to attack, just in time to stop him from killing Karin.
    • Karin deduces that Hidan needs to be standing in his specially designed circles in order for his curses to work.
    • Haku also notes in his battle against Akari during the Chunin Exams that the tree roots she summons to restrain his feet and keep him from taking advantage of his high speed are useless in the event that the ground they grow from is frozen over; a weakness he quickly exploits after figuring it out.
    • As A is happy to notice during his battle against Nagato's 6 paths of pain, the Preta Path's ability to absorb chakra with its energy shields is useless against natural elemental energy that doesn't involve chakra.
  • Loop Hole Abuse: Several examples are involved with the Time Travel seal. For starters, while Felix is not allowed to directly do battle with anyone Naruto fought against even tangentially during the old timeline prior to the point in the new timeline in which it was cast in the old timeline without causing the effects of the time travel seal to be undone, others from the Elder Dimension can do so without any worry. Felix himself can also battle people Naruto had battled as long as said battle occurs in the pocket dimension AOS room. Furthermore, the rules of the seal also clearly state that Felix has to stay in the exact same dimension as the one who activated the seal (in this case, Naruto). As Kushina points out, this means that Felix can in fact travel back to the Elder Dimension within the time window set between the moment the seal was activated and the moment in the past where he and Naruto arrived as long as Naruto travels there with him. Furthermore, while the Elder Dimension strongly advises against visitors from 'lesser dimensions', they will allow such visitors if they are either a blood relative in some way to an inhabitant of the Elder Dimension, or married/engaged to marry someone who fits either of the previous two criteria.
  • Love Epiphany: After being subjected to the Pulse Imprint Jutsu, Tsunade's memory of the one she had in the old timeline after Jiraiya's death inspires her to try to have her and Jiraiya resolve their issues earlier this time.
  • Love Triangle: Between Akari, Konohamaru, and Daisuke until Akari ultimately chooses Daisuke.
  • Made of Iron: Thanks to his clan bloodline ability, Drek can allow himself to be an almost literal example. Drakmus also counts, especially when in his dragon form. And Genyumaru himself is capable of making himself qualify thanks to his Kekkei Genkai that allows him to increase his strength and durability to superhuman levels without needing to use chakra (as well as beyond that much in the event that he does use chakra for it).
  • Making a Splash: Anyone capable of water release.
  • Mama Bear: Whenever she's not subjecting Naruto to one of her fits of rage, Kushina is very much this towards him. She also later extends this towards Hinata once she is set to become her daughter-in-law. Mebuki Haruno is also this towards Sakura, to the point that she makes a simultaneously blunt and subtle Freudian Threat to Sasuke to ensure that he treats Sakura right in their relationship.
  • Man Behind the Man: Caius Shikokkyo, despite technically serving as Raizen's new Dragon after Drakmus's being freed from his Brainwashed and Crazy state, technically serves as this as well due to having resurrected Raizen after his first death. The Sinju as well, for telepathically speaking to Caius and ensuring that he keeps goading Raizen into continuing his plans so it can vicariously achieve vengeance against Kaguya for eating its fruit so many countless years prior.
  • Maniac Monkeys: The monkeys who serve as summons will automatically count as this to anyone who fall victim to attack by them.
  • Meaningful Name: Well technically, meaningful SURNAME, as the surnames of most clans from the Elder Dimension are a rough Japanese translation of words associated with said clans' special bloodline powers. For example, Yoshoryuu roughly translates to 'Elemental Dragon', and Genshukuayatsuri is a rough translation for 'gravity manipulation'.
    • A more traditional case can also be found in Felix himself. As the author himself noted, luck has always seemed to be on Naruto's side even in canon. And with Felix Yoshoryuu, one could almost claim that this tendency reached its logical extreme by having luck itself take on human form and be at Naruto's side.
  • Mega Neko: One of Naruto's Animal Path summons is a giant tiger.
  • Mega Ton Punch: Caius possesses such a punch thanks to his regeneration powers constantly reviving his dead muscle cells even as they die from being replicated. And thanks to training from Sakura, Moegi develops one of these. And Felix, Jiraiya, and Itachi discover the hard way that Raizen also possesses one of these.
  • Mess of Woe: Naruto's room noticeably becomes a lot messier than normal when he's grieving Jiraiya's death in the new timeline.
  • Might Makes Right: Simultaneously played straight and inverted by Raizen's personal mindset. The way he sees it, he knows that ideals need power in order to be protected, but is also aware of how certain ideals are capable of gaining that very power themselves.
  • Mind Rape: Essentially how Victor was able to make Markus Brainwashed and Crazy. Specifically, he hired a powerful mind manipulator from an Elder Dimension clan that specifically specializes in genjutsu and similar mind manipulation powers to implant a false memory of him overhearing Felix and Kyle callously dismiss their bond with him. The Kyosei Clan also are capable of inflicting this upon people through use of a tailed, ten-legged, black spider-like parasite called the Kokoro Nusumu (while also willingly letting themselves be used as hosts for the parasites without undergoing this trope themselves).
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Drakmus's dragon form looks like a mixture between a wolf and a dragon. Also, some of the corpses Caius summons the first time the readers see him demonstrate his powers in this story have animal body parts mixed in with their human parts. The chimeras Caius creates and summons really take the cake though in that they have three heads (with a dragon's head on the left, an eagle's on the right, and a lion's in the center), a lion's body, seven snakes for tails, and a dragon's wings. And of course, Kokuo the 5-tailed horse still has goat-like horns and a slightly dolphin-like face, as in canon. And then there's Gyuki, as in canon, being a seeming mix between an ox, a dog, and an octopus.
  • Motor Mouth: Lee possesses this, just like in canon, which makes Naruto initially rather wary of letting him get his memories of the old timeline restored for the sake of being given the powers of the Preta Path.
  • Moment Killer: Both Sasuke and Isaac manage to serve as this at least once during a moment where Naruto is trying to cheer Hinata up and assure her that she's stronger than she thinks. The latter in particular comes to really regret it when Naruto decides to start sending his clones to chase after him while in the shape of human-sized squirrels.
  • Mook Horror Show: A large number of mooks in one of Caius and Raizen's minor bases are subjected to this when they end up having to deal with Janice.
  • More Dakka: Some of Derek's automatons are equipped with machine guns.
  • Mugged for Disguise: Shikamaru pulls this off on one of the volunteer intel providers for the 1st stage of the Suna Chunin Exams in order to evade an enraged Temari in the midst of Menstrual Menace. Jiraiya, Itachi, and Felix later pull this on some guards while investigating the base of a cult associated with Zurui, Raizen, and the Sinju.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Markus/Drakmus's demonic dragon form has six legs, four of which serve double duty as arms. And he doesn't have to be in dragon mode to have four arms to fight with either. Naruto himself can also achieve this by forming chakra arms as a result of his Asura Path powers. And then there's Kankuro's newly introduced puppet Black Warrior, which also has four arms.
  • Multiple Head Case: Orochimaru's giant snake form demonstrates the power to grow 7 additional heads and make itself an 8-headed version of itself. And of course, there are also the hydras that are capable of being summoned, which start off with three-heads, but naturally grow two more every time one is cut off in the event the would isn't quickly sealed immediately after the beheading. And of course, there's the giant multiple headed dog amongst the Animal Path summons. And then there's Izuna Uchiha's two-headed Susanoo.
  • Mutual Kill: Jess and Kyle's duel in the Elder Dimension ends this way, with Kyle first crushing her to death with an Earth Style Giant Stone Fist jutsu, only for her to manage to have just enough time left in her dying moments to use one of her flesh colored hand blades to stab him In the Back and clear through his heart.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • Fugaku has this reaction upon being fatally wounded by Itachi during the battle that ensues between them over the attempt to prevent the planned Uchiha coup.
    • Kimimaro's reaction upon learning of how Orochimaru didn't keep his promise to cure Jugo of his rages and instead just locked him up to "keep [him] from harming anyone" as well as experiment on him so he could replicate the rages for the sake of the curse marks, as Kimimaro himself had been the one to convince Jugo to accept Orochimaru's nonexistent help in the matter.
    • Drakmus/Markus is hit HARD by this once he is broken free from his Brainwashed and Crazy state by Felix.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: Naruto's reaction upon learning about Konohamaru and Daisuke crushing on Akari. This aspect gets played up to hilarious extremes in a later omake after Daisuke ends up pairing up with Akari.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Technically clan, but Alex Chihanshu is one of the only male members that doesn't share his clan's rampant sexism and misogyny. But despite not sharing his clan's beliefs on women, an unpleasant incident in his past involving a woman has left him paralyzingly afraid of the opposite gender. But only in the context of casual interaction; he has no problem fighting against them in combat.
  • Mysterious Mist: As in canon, Zabuza weaponizes this trope to obscure his targets' vision when he attacks. Rick Kesshou the plasma style wielder also proves capable of doing the same while also mixing it with Acid Attack. Mei Turumi's own vapor style also functions similarly to Rick's fog style.
  • Named by the Adaptation: The nameless man that served as Orochimaru's final host body before his failed attempt at possessing Sasuke in canon (and the original timeline before this story's reset) is named Genyumaru in this story (and is able to successfully avoid serving as Orochimaru's host altogether thanks to Orochimaru having been killed during his attempted invasion of Konoha during the new timeline before he could get the chance).
  • Necromancer: Caius, Xackary, and all other members of the Shikokkyo clan.
  • Never My Fault: While admittedly understandable that he'd be unaware of just how he in fact ended up accidentally blew his, Itachi, and Jiraiya's cover during their infiltration of the Sinju Cult's base, he very noticeably never once considers the possibility of he himself being responsible for the cover getting blown when he notices the explosive results that come later.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: Raizen is capable of summoning a giant crocodile with ankylosaur-like armor.
  • No Body Left Behind: A scorch mark is all that is left of Rick Kesshou the plasma style wielder after his Suicide Attack is finished.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: As per Narutoverse tradition, this happens quite often.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Simply put, Raizen is most definitely not the type to mess around.
  • The Nose Knows: As is to be expected, Kakashi's summoned dogs and the dogs trained by the Inuzuka clan (and all the human members of the Inuzuka Clan for that matter) all possess the power of this trope. Kurama also has this to an extent.
  • No-Sell: Genyumaru quite epically slaps aside a giant boulder that a team of Iwa genin had sent rocketing at high speed towards him and the rest of Team Zabuza before beating said team into unconsciousness all of ten seconds later. He also later takes a large stone to the back of his head during his subsequent Chunin Exam battle against Akari, and doesn't even flinch at the contact. Raizen can also easily pull this on several of Madara's most powerful techniques, as well as just about a vast majority of other opponents' attacks for that matter. And Derek manages to almost contemptuously easily force Ino's mental presence out of him when she tries to use the Yamanaka mind control possession jutsu on him. Furthermore, the automatons Derek creates all come with chakra shields that allow them to take massive amounts of abuse before finally being destroyed once said shields have been overloaded and forced to shut down.
  • No Social Skills: Sai, as in canon.
  • No Sympathy: Raizen and the rest of the high ranking members of the villain's forces quite openly show this towards Derek after the destruction of a 2nd Kinzoku Kyojin at the hands of Sakura.
  • Not Helping Your Case: As Felix points out, the complete and utter tantrum level rampage she throws not too long after finally getting her memories restored by the Pulse Imprint Jutsu doesn't exactly make him and Naruto regret waiting so long to letting her get those memories back.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore:
    • The destruction of Elemental Infinity and the death of Jiraiya (both at the hands of Raizen) is enough to show that, for better or for worse, things are about to get a lot darker in the chapters to follow.
  • Not So Above It All: When everyone else is actively laughing after Kankuro accidentally hits on Haku, Gaara can be seen seemingly struggling not to smirk in amusement at his brother's expense.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Invoked multiple times throughout the story. One key example of this is how Raizen manages to convince a Brainwashed and Crazy Drakmus to join up with him. And as Minato himself points out, Raizen's own plans for how to handle the world once he's restarted it aren't entirely all that different from the behavior he himself claims to despise from the humans.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: As in canon, Obito pulls this off in his 'Tobi' persona.
  • Official Couple:
    • Naruto and Hinata, as in canon (although they become as much considerably earlier in the new timeline than they did in the original timeline (or do in canon)).
    • Sasuke and Sakura
    • Minato and Kushina
    • Akari and Daisuke
    • Jiraiya and Tsunade ( until the former's death)
    • Kakashi and Ceilia
    • Lee and Tenten
    • Shikamaru and Temari
    • Haku and Kin
    • Kimimaro and Fuu
    • Asuma and Kurenai
    • Itachi and Izumi (albeit, with the latter so far under the name Azami)
    • Nagato and Konan (with explicit permission from the deceased Yahiko)
    • Felix and Erika
    • Zabuza and Anko ( until the former's death)
    • Gaara and Matsuri (once they are both chunin of course)
    • Sai and Ino are also later offhandedly revealed (via Jiraiya's 'research') to be this, as in canon.
  • Off with His Head!: Just as happened in canon against completely different opponents, Karin and Suigetsu's battle against Hidan comes to an end via Suigetsu subjecting Hidan to this. And when they learn that Hidan is still alive after this, Karin goes so far as to blatantly stomp on his head after he calls her a hag before Suigetsu then sends it flying several miles off into the distance with a single powerful soccer style kick.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Raizen proves to be this in that he plans to engulf the entire multiverse in deadly flames so as to destroy it and allow him the opportunity to Restart the World as he sees fit. The Sinju as well for fully supporting this plan and encouraging Raizen and Caius to continue working towards achieving it so that it can finally vicariously achieve the vengeance against Kaguya that it has desired for so many countless years ever since she first ate its fruit.
  • One Hit Poly Kill: Darui proves capable of dealing such hits with laser circus.
  • One-Winged Angel: Whenever he decides its time to really get serious in battle, Drakmus demonstrates the power to transform into a demonic wolf-dragon hybrid. And of course, as in canon, Orochimaru is capable of transforming into a giant white snake made up of countless smaller white snakes.
  • Only Mostly Dead: Matatabi and Yugito are reduced to this (as in, so much of the former was extracted from the latter that her mind had started leaving Yugito as well as her body) by the time Naruto and the gang finally arrive to save them. They thankfully gets better, though not without difficulty (particularly for Matatabi). Becka Hekireki also ends up like this after her first duel against Janice.
  • Only Sane Man: Felix is arguably one of the few members of the Elder Dimension Council to qualify as this. Understandably he is quite annoyed with how the vast majority of his fellow council members are the complete opposite.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The way Gaara starts behaving immediately after being subjected to the Pulse Imprint Jutsu is enough to leave a confused Kankuro and Temari briefly concerned as to whether he's been replaced by an imposter.
  • Our Dragons Are Different:
    • As in canon, a large number of the dragons that appear in this story are elemental constructs summoned by ninjas for the sake of appropriate jutsus.
    • The one that Drakmus turns into has six legs, four of which can be used as arms, three tails covered in sharp spines, four wings, bones sticking out of its back with sharp points, a head that looks like a mixture between that of a wolf and that of a dragon, and gray fur sticking out of its cheeks and assorted areas of the rest of its body.
    • That being said, there are real dragons out there in the multiverse, some of them even living in the elder dimension no less, with Felix and Kyle being capable of summoning one each, and Naruto himself proving capable of later summoning one as well (that is capable of changing color and primary element no less) after developing the powers of the Six Paths of Pain.
  • Our Goblins Are Different: So far, the only goblins that appear to be in existence are ones formed by appropriate elemental jutsus.
  • Our Hydras Are Different: As demonstrated by the ones capable of being summoned by Alex and later by Naruto, the hydras of this story have two legs, inflexible tails, no elemental breath attacks, always start out with three heads (but can naturally grow two more for every single head that gets cut off without the wound getting immediately closed off somehow), and have immensely acidic and toxic blood capable of dissolving most metals and that the one Naruto himself summons is capable of spitting thanks to DNA from Alex implanted into it during its creation.
  • Over Drawn At The Blood Bank: A justified example can be found in the entirety of the Chihanshu clan, as their bloodline limit power allows them to never run out of blood when bleeding as long as they don't run out of chakra.
  • Panthera Awesome: Matatabi, as in canon. Also a panther made literally out of black lightning that Darui is capable of summoning with his jutsus. And Naruto himself proves capable of summoning a giant tiger with his Animal Path powers.
  • Papa Wolf: Minato towards Naruto. Hiashi Hyuga is also this to Hinata although the first time he appears to be shown demonstrating this tendency, he turns out to be a disguised Sasuke. Kizashi Haruno is likewise this towards Sakura. Also Zabuza towards Haku.
  • Paper Master: Konan, as per canon, as she manipulates it as a weapon in combat and also to create a pair of makeshift wings for her to use to fly. She can even use these skills to create exploding tags.
  • People Puppets: The Chihanshu Clan are capable of doing this in the event that they implant their own blood within the bloodstream of people they wish to control. Alex does this to both prevent Deidara from blowing him up as well as to force him to use his own clay bombs against the Edo Tensei corpes and chimaeras.
  • Perfection Is Impossible: Something that Kabuto has to have broken through his skull multiple times after he initially works to try to become perfect through use of his various assimilated abilities in an effort to determine his true self.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: This being the Naruto universe, the story is naturally packed with these.
  • Plasma Cannon: Rick Kesshou is more or less capable of pulling this off by firing bursts of plasma from his hands.
  • Playing with Fire: Anyone capable of fire release, as per canon. The Uchihas, in particular, prove real masters at this.
  • Poisonous Person: Rick Kesshou qualifies as this thanks to his fog style attacks being a mixture of Mysterious Mist and Acid Attack.
  • Power Fist: A pair of these that conduct chakra are amongst Genyumaru's weapons of choice for close combat.
  • The Power of Blood: Kushina, Naruto, and Karin are able to use their blood to unlock a specially designed box containing the Uzumaki regeneration seal by virtue of being Uzumaki Clan based blood relatives. The Chihanshu Clan from the Elder Dimension also thoroughly believe in this trope thanks to the fact that their entire shtick is Blood Magic.
  • The Power of Friendship: Just as in canon, Naruto's bonds with his various friends (both in canon and for the sake of this fic) is strongly emphasized as one of his greatest strengths.
  • The Power of the Sun: Zane Kogosei is capable of utilizing this as part of his clan's abilities.
  • The Power of Trust: Naruto's various bonds wouldn't be nearly as effective without it.
  • The Power of the Void: Raizen proves himself capable, thanks to his gravity manipulation, to summon miniature black holes.
  • Power Parasite: Zurui. A warrior from the Hidden Moon village, he is capable of absorbing another person's Kekkei Genkai, Kekkei Toutai, or Dojutsu (stealing them for himself in the process) via touch and using them himself thanks to a specially designed seal Derek placed on him. He can acquire up to three such abilities at a time and will automatically lose his least recently acquired one (allowing it to return to its original user in the process) whenever he touches someone else with a different such power whenever he already has three absorbed and in his arsenal. In the event that he dies, all stolen powers he had in his arsenal automatically return to their original users (unless said original users are dead, or removed the seal from where Zurui touched them).
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: Sakura manages to epically turn her catchphrase into one of these.
  • Psycho Electro: Becka Hekireki is a master of the thunder style jutsu, which allows her to have mastery over a mixture of wind and lightning style chakra, electrifying her body to deal devastating physical attacks, summon wolves made out lightning, and unleash devastating shockwaves of electrified wind. She is also one of the villains on Raizen's side.
  • Pulling Themselves Together: Jess the Rubber Woman proves herself capable of this during her duel against Ceilia in Orochimaru's attempted invasion of Konoha.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Happens more than once on both sides during the 2nd take on the 4th Great Shinobi World War.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: The first thing Naruto does upon reaching a conveniently empty training ground after receiving news of Jiraiya's death in the new timeline is to unleash an animalistic roar of grief at the sky.
  • Rapid Aging: Happens to Nagato when Madara absorbs the former's life force into himself (via using chakra rods implanted into Nagato to force Nagato into performing Samsara of Heavenly Life on him against his will) for the sake of full resurrection from Edo Tensei mode directly before reclaiming his Rinnegan. He gets better.
  • Raptor Attack: Naruto can summon velociraptors thanks to his Animal Path powers.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Tokara the great white snake sage was a hatchling during the time when Caius was still a young man and Raizen was alive in his first life. And he's still alive so many years later!
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Isaac turns out to be this when he ends up wearing a pink spandex suit after being introduced to the ways of Gai and Lee.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Minato is very much this as Hokage. Hiashi Hyuuga, Shikaku Nara, Choza Akimichi, Inoichi Yamanaka, Tsume Inuzuka, and Shibi Aburame also prove as much by virtue of agreeing with Minato on what to do with baby!Naruto in the new timeline after Kurama gets sealed into him. Manda's successor Codra also proves to be this to the snakes. Itachi proves to be this as well once he becomes the 5th Hokage in Tsunade's place during the new timeline. And of course, the rest of the Gokage prove this as well, A's occasional temper flare ups notwithstanding. And then there's also the samurai leader of the Land of Iron, Mifune.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: All Uchiha clan members with the Sharingan automatically qualify. Kurama as well. Also, Drakmus's irises turn scarlet when he assumes his dragon form. And of course, Naruto himself gains these whenever he assumes Bijuu mode.
  • Redemption Equals Death: At the very beginning of the story, Sasuke shakes off his blind hatred in time to unconsciously jump in front of a bijuu bomb that the Jyuubi had sent Naruto's way. He dies after giving Naruto a goodbye speech and making Naruto promise not to let this sacrifice be in vain. This death gets reversed thanks to the timeline reset.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed:
    • Zabuza may be working on the same side as Naruto this time around, but when given the chance, he's still not afraid to show people why he was given the nickname of Demon of the Mist.
    • Kin Tsuchi may no longer be working for Orochimaru or any other villains this time around. But even so, she's still very competitive in nature, and is not at all afraid to speak her mind, or above trying to resort to more painful or lethal measures against her opponents compared to Haku and Genyumaru.
    • Suigetsu may be working on Naruto's side this time just like Jugo and Karin, but he still shows the same willingness to kill and get bloody that he showed off in canon regardless.
  • Relative Button: Sasuke and Kabuto both pull this on each other when Sasuke brings up all the other children, plus Nono, from the orphanage where Kabuto grew up, followed by Kabuto threatening to go after Daisuke to use in his experiments instead of Sasuke.
  • Religion of Evil: Zurui turns out to be a major figure in a cult that worships the Sinju and considers Raizen one of that religion's biggest prophets.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Said almost word for word by Nagato after he reveals his still being alive to Danzo.
  • Reptiles Are Abhorrent: Any snakes summoned by Orochimaru or the giant chameleon summoned by Nagato's Animal Path automatically qualify. And there is also the giant crocodile with ankylosaur-like armor that Raizen can summon.
  • Rescue Romance:
  • Restart the World: What Raizen's ultimate final goal (assuming he isn't successfully killed of course) ultimately amounts to.
  • Rhino Rampage: The giant rhino amongst the Animal Path summons is present in this story.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Naruto and Felix have this from the very beginning after activating the time travel seal. Played with for everyone else affected by the time travel who becomes aware of it, as they do not start out with this, but ultimately end up getting their memories restored by either ending up back inside Naruto (in Kurama's case) or getting subjected to the Pulse Imprint Jutsu (in the case of everyone else who becomes aware of it).
  • The Rival: Konohamaru and Akari come to view Kankuro as this due to just how eager he proves to get back at them for their pranks against him. The feeling is mutual on Kankuro's end.
  • Rubber Woman: Raizen's underling Jess is this.
  • Safety in Indifference: This viewpoint turns out to be responsible for Shukaku's proving so resistant to forming friendships and being anything other than the bombastic and solitary monster he usually is. Prior to Gaara, he had only dared to form bonds with two people, his 'father' the Sage of Six Paths, and the first person he got sealed into immediately before getting sealed into Gaara. The fact that they both died ultimately left him too afraid of inevitably losing the ones he bonds with, causing him to actively try to avoid forming them. Thanks to Gaara, he eventually gets better.
  • Savage Wolves: Becka Hekireki can summon an entire pack of wolves made out of lightning in battle.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Like Kakashi before him in the old timeline, Itachi makes it clear that he and Team 7 will still help Tazuna after the full truth of the mission to the Land of Waves is revealed.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Drek flees from his battle against Team 7 at the Land of Waves once it becomes clear that he's outmatched. Jess, likewise flees from her battle against Ceilia during the Konoha Invasion after Kakashi arrives and successfully damages the 2nd of her three weak spots (the 1st one having already been damaged by Ceilia). Kakuzu as well once he himself is reduced to having only a single heart left. And then Kisame decides to backout of dueling with Tsunade after she and him are about to do so to vent their rage at falling all the way down from Raizen's Floating Continent after they both become aware of said Floating Continent falling down towards Konoha.
  • Sealed Evil in a Duel: A variation of this unfolds in that the "Groundhog Day" Loop Kabuto ends up stuck in for the Izanami involves the battle he was fighting against Sasuke, Kimimaro, and Orochimaru prior to Izanami getting triggered.
  • Sealed Inside a Person-Shaped Can: As in canon, this is always the case with jinchuriki.
  • Secret-Keeper: All who end up made aware of the fact that the timeline has been reset naturally become this. Downplayed later in the story as more and more people end up having to be made aware out of necessity.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: The main initial premise of the story, with Felix arriving to help Naruto go back in time to set things right after the Jyuubi almost manages a complete and utter victory.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot: Anytime sex could end up unfolding 'onscreen', the author inserts an 'insert imagination' in the place of the moment before then moving on immediately to what happens after the sex scene.
  • Ship Tease: Even with all the official couples already present, there is still plenty of this available for a few potential others to join the ranks:
    • After Akari ultimately chooses Daisuke over him Konohamaru finds hope for romance in another after Hanabi hints signs of a possible interest in him.
    • Just as in canon, Ino shows interest in Sai.
    • Also as in canon, Suigetsu and Karin.
    • And just like in the anime, Gaara and Matsuri (and they are both eager and willing to upgrade to Official Couple once they're both chunin).
  • Shock and Awe: Anyone capable of lightning release, Storm Style, or of using the chidori. This is also one of two contributing factors to Thunder Style.
  • Shout-Out: Several are made to various attacks and other elements from other manga and anime (i.e. Yu Yu Hakusho, Bleach, etc.). Also, several thematic elements from Kingdom Hearts are included.
  • "Shut Up" Kiss: Sakura pulls this on Sasuke when he starts spending a little too much time on self regret over his actions in the old timeline not too long after she herself has gotten her own memories of said timeline restored.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: Nagato's initial opinions of Naruto's desire for achieving 'real peace' instead of the kind he himself is initially attempting to achieve. Naturally, he changes his mind later.
  • Sinister Scythe: Just like in canon, this is Hidan's weapon of choice. Suigetsu also takes to wielding Hidan's original such scythe, while also having it mixed together with Drakmus's discarded short sword.
  • Sins of the Father: As in canon, the Uchiha are treated with great suspicion and fear by the rest of Konoha due to Madara's past actions (and the fact that Obito (himself an Uchiha) outright claimed to be Madara during the time he summoned Kurama to attack Konoha certainly doesn't help the Uchiha clan's case). And during the Suna hosted Chunin Exams, a large number of Iwa ninjas decide to try to get vengeance against Minato for past actions against their country in a prior war by targeting his daughter Akari. Furthermore, as Felix makes clear later, it is entirely possible that the Elder Dimension council will be all too happy to try to have Felix and his entire immediate family killed if they were to find out about him inheriting the Gravity Master powers of the Genshukuayatsuri Clan as a result of sheer panic fueled desperation to prevent such a dangerous clan from having a resurgence.
  • Sizeshifter: The Akimichi clan, as in canon.
  • Skewed Priorities: Played with in regards to Suigetsu during Team Kimimaro's mission to save Fuu. While they're nearing where the Akatsuki have gathered and started extracting Chomei from Fuu for the sake of the Gedo Mazo, Suigetsu expresses hope that maybe he'll get the chance to kill Kisame and steal Samehada from him, but is quick to point out in annoyance that he already knows and understands what the main priority is after Jugo mentions as much, and that he was just stating hope for a secondary outcome to go along with it.
  • Skyward Scream: Upon reaching a conveniently empty training ground after receiving news of Jiraiya's death in the new timeline, his first act is to unleash a raging roar of sorrow at the sky.
  • The Smart Guy: Shikamaru, as in canon.
  • Smug Snake: Just about all the Oto Chunin hopefuls prove to be this before theircomplete and utter defeats. Manda also proves himself, as in canon, a literal example for what little time he's seen alive in the new timeline. Kin Tsuchi also showcases moments of this. And then there's Zurui the Power Parasite.
    • As it so happens, the majority of the Genshukuayatsuri clan were themselves examples of this before their near extinction. They were so confident in their own power and might that they assumed that Rikudou Zion was legitimately the only threat to their bid to rule the Elder Dimension, and also completely ignored the larger resistance movement that was starting to form against them at the same time as their pursuit, until it was too late.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: As per usual, any snakes summoned by Orochimaru (especially Manda) automatically qualify. And of course Orochimaru himself invokes the spirit of this trope.
  • Something Only They Would Say: Haku uses this to ensure that the strange black fox with rinnegan and byakugan talking in Naruto's voice is in fact on Naruto's side when Naruto works to have Zenko explain to Haku his plans regarding the upcoming Akatsuki invasion attempt after the Suna hosted Chunin Exams are over...and draws it out with quite a variety of questions.
  • Something We Forgot: After the invasion of the Suna Chunin Exams, Felix forgets to summon a portal to allow Alex and Isaac to depart to their next destination the easy way. And then much later, after Naruto has finished allowing for Gaara and Fuu's training with B, as well as Gaara's inauguration ceremony, he completely forgets to go back for Isaac, whom he'd left hogtied and dangling from a tree on B's island (and with squirrels heavily implied to be in the area) to prevent him from ruining the ceremony through a particularly embarrassing prank.
  • So Proud of You: Itachi's feelings towards Sasuke after Sasuke and Naruto's duel in the AOS room once Sasuke has demonstrated just how much he's matured in the new timeline since the events of the old timeline. Also Kakashi's feelings towards his father Sakumo, which he manages to express just before Sakumo's Edo Tensei corpse is released and dismissed back to the afterlife. And of course, Tsunade very much feels this towards Sakura once the latter manages to epically reveal just how much she's finally managed to succeed in surpassing her.
  • Spanner in the Works: Thanks to prior knowledge of events from the old timeline, Naruto, Felix, and their allies are able to deliberately set up a massive number of these for the plans of Gato and Orochimaru (as well as unwittingly do the same for a couple of Raizen's) during the earlier chapters of the story.
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
    • In the very first chapter after the prologue, Minato and Kushina undergo this thanks to a forewarned Hiruzen completing the Reaper Death Seal in Minato's place in time to seal Kurama into Naruto before he can attempt to kill Minato and Kushina.
    • Hizashi Hyuuga; by virtue of the Kumo ninja who tried to kidnap Hinata on her 3rd birthday ending up captured alive thanks to Felix (on Naruto's insistence) allowing Minato to be made aware of this event in time, nullifying the demand for Hiashi's head that resulted in Hizashi's sacrifice in the 1st place. Neji, likewise, has so far survived over the course of the new timeline.
    • Mikoto and all the Uchiha clan members who don't end up fighting against Minato and his forces when the latter group arrives to prevent the planned Uchiha coup. Itachi and Izumi (albeit with a different name) also receive this treatment with the former even becoming Team 7's Jounin sensei in Kakashi's place.
    • Zabuza and Haku also get this treatment, and even pull off a Heel–Face Turn as a result although this ends up saddeningly subverted later in the story for the former.
    • Kin also gets spared from the fate of her two teammates this time around. And much like Haku and Zabuza, she undergoes a Heel–Face Turn as a result.
    • Kimimaro as well, thanks to Orochimaru being killed off during his attempted invasion of Konoha this time around, and Jugou managing to successfully get it through his friend's head this time that Orochimaru was just using him for his own gains and isn't worthy of Kimimaro's devotion and idolizing in time for him to willingly leave Orochimaru's hideout alongside Jugo, Karin, and Suigetsu in time to get appropriate medical treatment that will allow him to at least extend his life span longer than it would have been if he hadn't gotten the appropriate treatment. The nameless person whose body Orochimaru had been using before trying to possess Sasuke in canon (named Genyumaru in this continuity) is also given this treatment by being among the other prisoners/experiments released from the same base as Kimimaro.
    • Fuu and Yugito as well.
    • And of course, Nagato and Konan also undergo this, and so does Asuma.
    • Hayate and Yugao as well, to the point that they even end up Happily Married.
    • Naturally, Jiraiya as well until Raizen kills him in the new timeline.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Jugo, as in canon.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Suigetsu, acting under his usual tendencies, suggests just simply killing the remaining bearers of Orochimaru's curse mark to save trouble. Everyone else in the area with him at the time quickly shuts this idea down. Also, when Kurama suggests for Naruto to just teleport away the 8 makeshift meteors left over from the falling Floating Continent that Raizen had allowed the Akatsuki to use as a temporary hideout like Minato had once done with two meteors Madara had summoned during their own duel several chapters prior, only for Naruto to point out that, in this case, there's nowhere safe enough to teleport them to without risking mass casualties and displacement.
  • The Stations of the Canon: Deliberately invoked for the earlier half or so of the story for the sake of heightened chances of allowing the new timeline to be improved without risking causing an even worse fate than the one that made the reset necessary.
  • Stealth Expert: Drakmus's ally (and former crush) Janice is one of these.
  • Storm of Blades: One of Raizen's favorite forms of attack.
  • Straw Nihilist: Inari, as in canon; until Naruto's success proves him wrong; again, as in canon.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: Expect this to happen anytime exploding tags, or the eggs of the Animal Path's giant bird summon, get involved. Isaac also teaches Naruto how to turn actual weapons themselves into chakra bombs. And of course, there's also Deidara.
  • Suicide as Comedy: Sakura and Ino attempt to hang themselves in a scene that's entirely Played for Laughs after Hinata ends up on Team 7 with Sasuke (and Naruto) instead of one of them. Ino then pulls this off again in another scene Played for Laughs during the Chunin Exams after Sasuke indicates willingness to have Sakura as his girlfriend following their duel.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Felix's eyes are a yellow gold color, signifying how lightning chakra is his second strongest elemental chakra affinity. Sasuke also develops these whenever he activates his snake style Sage Mode.
  • Super-Reflexes: Possessed by several ninja and other warriors. For more specific examples, Udon is able to swiftly grab onto one of Kiyoshi's crossobw bolts just as its about to strike him in the chest and Haku is able to just barely stop himself in time to avoid running right into a lightning shield Kiyoshi sets up.
  • Super-Senses: The Byakugan allows this for the Hyuga clan, as in canon. Several other characters also possess variants of this to a variety of degrees.
  • Super-Speed: Gai and Lee have this, as in canon. A also possesses this. Haku also runs fast enough to sort of qualify. Isaac also turns out to have this.
  • Super-Strength: Genyumaru's kekkei genkai is the ability to artificially enhance his strength without using chakra (though he can allow chakra to be used alongside this natural ability to enhance his strength even more).
  • Taken for Granite: As in canon, anyone who overloads on natural sage energy gets turned into a statue of whatever animal the natural energy in question is associated with, something that Nagato's Preta Path finds out the hard way after Naruto lets it absorb a massive amount of such chakra.
  • Taking the Bullet:
    • Sasuke takes the brunt of a bijuu bomb that had been sent Naruto's way by the Jyuubi at the very beginning of the story. He has just enough time to give Naruto a final goodbye speech before subsequently dying. He later does it again as a young child during the new timeline in time to prevent Naruto from getting stabbed by one of the rebellious Uchiha clansmen during the battle to prevent the planned coup, but this time he survives.
    • Haku attempts to do this for Zabuza once more in the new timeline like he did before. This time, however, Itachi is able to strike the would-be killer (Kisame) and knock him off balance in time for the otherwise fatal attack to go off target.
  • Taking You with Me:
Jess: I'll admit, I'm a goner after that. (Pauses to cough blood into one hand and then retract the other from where she stabbed Kyle) But you're coming to Hell with me.
    • Rick Kesshou the plasma style wielder also attempts this against Drakmus with an immensely powerful flash style Suicide Attack after having already found himself thoroughly at Drakmus's mercy and seconds away from dying anyway. Unlike with the above example, Drakmus is able to survive.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: Between Gaara and Matsuri. Becomes much less awkward once they are both Chunin.
  • The Tease: Kiba is more than willing to hit on every attractive girl (or attractive person that LOOKS like a girl) he sees. This comes back to bite him in hilarious fashion when he ends up briefly trying to hit on Haku.
  • Teen Genius: Shikamaru, just like in canon.
  • Teleport Spam: Minato can do this with his Hiraishin technique, provided he has enough seals available of course. Naruto himself also chooses to master this over the course of the new timeline.
  • Temporary Bulk Change: The Akimichi Clan, as in canon.
  • Tentacled Terror: Caius turns into some sort of tentacled monster the first time he triggers his Voluntary Shape Shifting with the parasite known as the Neo Totsuzenhen'i during his battle with Lee.
  • That Man Is Dead: After killing Felix's father not too long after being made Brainwashed and Crazy by his own villainous secondary adoptive father Victor, Markus gleefully casts aside this name for the sake of embracing his new title as Drakmus. Later, after being broken free from his Brainwashed and Crazy state, Drakmus thoroughly believes that the crimes he committed in this state were so unforgivable that he no longer considers himself worthy of being referred to by his old name Markus anymore even if he hadn't already cast it aside, as that was the name he'd had when he was Felix's good friend and almost brother prior to getting his memories manipulated and falsified by Victor. Also, Obito, as in canon, believes that the person he initially was died when he himself was initially crushed to death under the rocks.
  • Theme Naming: All named inhabitants of the Elder Dimension apart from the Otsutsukis, Rikudo Zion, Raizen, Sarka, and Drek are given obviously western influenced names such as Felix, Markus, and Caius. The Kokoro Nusumu parasites that are given names are also named after types of rock, with the ones from the highest ranking class of their species being named after gemstones.
  • There Was a Door: Much to Tsunade's annoyance, Jiraiya, Minato, and Naruto are all more than happy to enter and exit a building through a window even when there's a perfectly good door they could use instead. And much to Mabui's annoyance, B busts through the wall of his brother's office to go get a drink for A despite the presence of a perfectly good door. And then Kushina herself expresses annoyance with this tendency of Jiraiya's.
  • Thicker Than Water: Upon learning of Karin (or more specifically, of the fact that Karin is an Uzumaki just like her), Kushina is eager to allow her the chance to join the good guy cause instead of being left to rot in Oto after Orochimaru's death in the Chunin Exams invasion.
  • Third Eye: Ceilia possesses one in the center of her forehead (allowing it to be covered up by her headband when she doesn't want to use it). It allows her a small degree of True Sight. Isaac and Derek also possess this.
  • Third-Person Person: Obito pretends to be this, as in canon, while acting out his Tobi persona.
  • This Cannot Be!: Kakuzu's reaction to being fatally wounded (and this time with no chance of immediate resurrection) by Kimimaro. Also Derek's reaction to seeing one of his prized Kinzoku Kyojins being utterly demolished by Sakura.* Threatening Shark: Kisame invokes this with his vaguely humanoid shark-like appearance, and brings it up to a somewhat more traditional form whenever he merges with Samehada to turn into a shark or uses his Water Style Shark Bullet attack.
  • Time Master: Raizen's acquired eternal mangekyou sharingan are powerful enough for him to become a variation of this. With his right eye, he can cast Omoikane, while his left eye can cast Sarutahiku, which can revert time over anything that crosses its gaze back a maximum of five minutes (at the cost of having to wait twice the amount of time that got reverted for the power to recharge, as well as an inability to revert time back further than the last moment of usage).
  • Token Evil Teammate:
    • Zabuza and Kin are arguably this in regards to Team Zabuza. While both of them are now on the side of Naruto, Zabuza is still not afraid to show off why he was nicknamed the Demon of the Mist, and Kin is much more willing to consider lethal or painful measures than her boyfriend Haku and their mutual teammate Genyumaru are.
    • Suigetsu is this in regards to Team Kimimaro and the later reformed version of Team Taka/Hebi. He may be on Naruto's side this time around, but he's nonetheless just as willing to kill and get bloody as he was in canon.
  • Token Good Teammate: Of the tailed beasts that have been adequately developed in this story, Chomei and Matatabi appear to be this in comparison to their 'brothers'. Matatabi is exactly as polite and respectful as she is in canon, whereas Chomei has much lower levels of hatred compared to some of her more grudge capable 'brothers' and had already managed to allow her and Fuu to mutually gain enough respect for each other for her to only put up a minimal fight against Fuu in their Battle in the Center of the Mind before allowing Fuu full access to and control of her chakra.
  • Too Clever by Half: Itachi, Jiraiya, and Felix's plans for their infiltration of the Sinju Cult's base seemed quite foolproof. Unfortunately, Felix either didn't consider or wasn't aware of the possibility of the wax on the door frames.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Happens to multiple characters throughout the story over the course of the new timeline.
    • Sakura in particular REALLY takes serious levels in badass compared to her counterpart in canon.
    • Hinata also manages to do this earlier in the reset timeline then in the old timeline thanks to her confidence being allowed the chance to be significantly boosted by ending up on Team 7 alongside Naruto and Sasuke (but especially Naruto) in Sakura's place. She takes a step further by learning how to be an archer during her time in the Elder Dimension. And then she later becomes the Animal Path after Naruto acquires the Rinnegan and develops his own version of the Six Paths of Pain.
    • Crazily enough, Naruto himself. For starters, he manages to learn a large number of his old skills from the original timeline much earlier in the new timeline. He also adds his father's Hiraishin jutsu to his repertoire, as well as how to form other Rasengan-based elemental chakra weapons besides the rasenshuriken. Furthermore, while he's later training in the Elder Dimension, he not only learns how to turn actual weapons into chakra bombs, but also gains the rinnegan and works with Kurama to find a way to channel the necessary chakra for assuming Sage Mode without staying absolutely still.
    • Tsunade, surprisingly enough, as well, by virtue of managing to acquire the slug version of Sage Mode.
    • Sasuke as well, by virtue of acquiring the snake version of Sage Mode.
    • Shikamaru, Lee, and Tenten as well by virtue of joining Hinata, Sasuke, and Sakura as members of Naruto's Six Paths.
    • Shino as well due to being convinced by Sasuke to strengthening himself by taking up kenjutsu.
    • In fact, just about the entirety of the Konoha 13 undergo this, via both the aforementioned examples and most of the others adding elemental release style techniques to their arsenal alongside strengthening their existing techniques and adding brand new ones thanks to Felix's training prior to the war.
    • Crazily enough, Suigetsu as well, by virtue of Sasuke managing to teach him to start merging with mist (provided its thick enough) as well as standing sources of water like lakes and rivers).
  • Took a Level in Idealism: As in canon, Inari does this after Naruto and his team's success against Gato restores his faith in heroes.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: As Hidan explicitly states, any pain he feels, especially if its reflected back on him by the victims of his curse, feels like pure ecstasy to him.
  • Torture Technician: Itachi and Kin prove to be this.
  • To the Pain: As Hidan himself states, the pain his victims feel that gets reflected back upon him feels like pure ecstasy.
  • Training from Hell: As to be expected, this happens quite often to up and coming ninjas in the world of Naruto. Sakura in particular is put through especially tough training by Kurenai so as to deliberately force her to stop putting focus on Sasuke over her actual training. Sasuke also puts Naruto's little sister Akari through this as revenge for her constantly making fun of his hair by calling him Chicken-Butt sensei. Hanabi also refers to her training with Neji as this, word for word.
  • Tranquil Fury: Immediately after she finally finds Sasuke after arriving at Suna for the Chunin Exams, she allows herself to stay this way just long enough to let him know how screwed he is for taking his team to Suna early without waiting for her to come back first so she and her team could go with them before allowing her usual anger eruption to unfold. Temari also takes a page out of this book when in a state of Menstrual Menace triggered by a bad timed seemingly insulting remark from Shikamaru. And then Haku pulls this off as well once he ends up getting accidentally hit in a particularly unpleasant spot by Akari during his match against her in the Chunin Exams final round.
  • Traumatic Super Power Awakening: As per canon, the awakening of the sharingan (especially the Mangekyou).
  • Troll: As in canon, Naruto himself. Felix and Sasuke also prove to be this. And in a way, Obito himself when pretending to be Tobi. Sakura herself also manages to briefly pull this off when she briefly complains about the Naraka Path earring being orange and clashing with her fashion just to get Naruto riled up before than finally accepting it while still noting that she'd have liked it to be a color more appropriate for her fashion sense. And then B once again pulls this off in regards to the headless statues.
  • True Sight: Ceilia's Third Eye allows her a slight variation of this that allows her to serve as a reasonably adequate judge of character.
  • Tsundere: Felix's wife Erika. In her very first scene, she goes from banging him in the face with a Frying Pan of Doom for seemingly walking out on her for 13 years to embracing him lovingly once she's given a good enough explanation behind said absence.
  • Tunnel King: Drakmus proves himself capable of being this, and so does Choji.
  • Turtle Island: Like in canon, Killer B does his training on one of these. Naruto and Kimimaro likewise have Gaara and Fuu brought to this island for their own training with Shukaku and Chomei.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Happens multiple times...with the usual end results.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Played with in regards to Suigetsu. While he did somewhat make himself sound ungrateful for Karin's saving him from Hidan, he did have a point in that she'd only managed to succeed completely by accident due to her attempt at rescuing him not having the exact effect she'd been planning for and wanted her to be honest about the whole affair. Played straight in regards to an Iwa ninja who reacts to the sight of Minato by throwing a kunai at him in a rage despite the fact that Minato and Jiraiya had just saved him and the other Iwa soldiers in the area from getting killed by a reanimated Sound Four. Jiraiya even calls him out on this.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Felix. The destruction of Elemental Infinity, among other factors, all but forces him to start becoming more skilled. Sakura also starts out as this before likewise managing to become even more badass than she became in canon.
  • Unwanted Revival: Raizen was most definitely NOT happy with Caius for resurrecting him after the first time he died.
  • Villain Respect: Raizen is very much willing to give his opponents their props if he feels they deserve as much. Madara himself also ends up granting Minato this over the course of their duel at Iwa.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Inverted by Naruto and Shikamaru, who both prove quite fiercely protective of Hinata and Temari. And there's no reason not to believe that this could yet be played straight or inverted by various other characters that are in relationships.
  • Void Between the Worlds: As Felix explains, one must always travel through this area first while traveling from one dimension to another.
  • Voluntary Shape Shifting: Kisame can merge with Samehada in order to turn into a Threatening Shark. Caius is also able to take part in a particularly horrific version of this by attaching a specially evolved parasite to his neck and causing his already unstable genetics to become even more so.
  • Walking the Earth: Drakmus served as a villainous version of this for a while after the death of his villainous secondary adoptive father Victor. He stopped this for a while after he joined up with Raizen, but then took on a more anti-heroic version of this alongside three allies once he was broken out of his Brainwashed and Crazy state.
  • Was Once a Man: The white zetsu all turn out to be former victims of the same kind of tsukuyomi genjutsu that Obito plans to subject the entirety of Naruto's dimension to.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: As in canon, Bijuu Bombs. And then there's Drakmus's Demonic Sphere attack.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: As in canon, Nagato starts out as this when he's introduced in the new timeline. Danzo also counts, as in canon, as do Obito and Madara. And then there's also Raizen.
  • Wham Line: During the 2nd battle against Drakmus, Felix is caught off guard and stunned when Drakmus tells him that FELIX himself said some hurtful words about him to his older brother Kyle that convinced him that Victor was telling the truth. This naturally serves as a hint to his later turning out to be Brainwashed and Crazy.
  • Wham Shot: The moment where Daisuke is revealed to have awakened his Sharengan.. Also, the moment where Felix finds himself to unexpectedly be capable of gravity manipulation.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: A combination of being both driven to near insanity by the implanting of the Tamashi Kensaku Me and becoming rather Literal-Minded as a result of the same, one instance of Ceilia calling him 'nuts' (as in crazy) was enough to make him deathly terrified of squirrels. And due to an unpleasant incident with a woman in his past, Alex Chihanshu has switched out the rampant misogyny that he would have otherwise shared with the rest of the men in his clan for a paralyzing fear of the opposite sex (unless facing them in combat).
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: The Tamashi Kensaku Me has very high chances of turning those who get it implanted into them insane as a result of the sheer power it grants them. Ceilia and Derek are among the lucky few who haven't gone insane from having it.
  • Wolverine Claws: Felix gifts Lee with a pair of gauntlets that allows him to have these.
  • The Worf Effect: Just to show off just how powerful Naruto becomes upon finally developing the rinnegan, he uses the forcefield powers of his newly awakened Preta Path mode to destroy an otherwise indestructible energy barrier that the Akatsuki (canon and Raizen-affiliated alike) had set up to stop him from getting aid against Drakmus or aiding anyone within the Yoshoryuu compound. Also comes into play just about anytime Raizen comes into play.
  • World Tree: The Sinju, as in canon, serves as the source of all chakra and also serves as a source of the body for the Jyuubi. But unlike in canon, it so far appears to be exactly the sentient tree it was initially implied to be in canon before the reveal of Kaguya's true nature, as well as Raizen's secondary tree behind the man alongside Caius.
  • Worthy Opponent: Raizen considered his old friend Rikudo Zion to be this. Madara Uchiha also ends up viewing Minato as this over the course of their duel at Iwa following his being revived through Edo Tensei.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Considering how both genders are equally capable of being badass warriors in the world of Naruto, this is understandably the case for quite a lot of people.
  • Would Hurt a Child: As in canon, many members of the Konoha counsel wish to kill baby!Naruto in order to nullify any potential threat from Kurama. Fugaku Uchiha also wishes to have Naruto killed at this time, even if only to silence the people spreading rumors about him and his clan blatantly being responsible for Kurama's attack on the village. Fugaku also later has some of the clan members on his side act under orders to attempt to take out Naruto (and perhaps Sasuke as well) over the course of the battle that ensues when Minato, Itachi, and their ANBU forces arrive to prevent the coup from happening in the first place. Obito also proves himself this by threatening, as in canon, to kill baby!Naruto in his efforts to get ahold of Kurama on the night that the fox attacked Konoha. And of course, all the other villains likewise prove to be this.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Raizen manages to destroy Elemental Infinity over the course of his duel against Felix, Itachi, and Jiraiya.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: The Preta Path successfully catches Yugito in a Full Nelson.
  • Wrong Time-Travel Savvy: When Naruto questions why Felix would need to worry about being seemingly unable to return to the Elder Dimension to visit his family over the course of the 13 years between the point at which they arrived from their time travel and the moment in the new timeline in which the time travel seal had been activated in the old timeline (while under the impression that the time travel seal had turned back time there as well when he and Felix had traveled back in time), Felix explains that only Naruto's home dimension (the one in which the seal was activated) was affected by the seal, and that all the other dimensions (Elder Dimension included) were unaffected and still have time unfolding exactly as it already was prior to the activation of the time travel seal.
  • Xanatos Gambit: Played for laughs in regards to Sasuke and Akari's bet over whether she can go an entire month without calling him Duck-Butt sensei. If Akari wins the bet, then it will be money well spent for Sasuke by virtue of him successfully not having to hear her call him that Embarrassing Nick Name for an entire month. If he wins, it will be the easiest money he's ever earned. Played straight, however, with Raizen in regards to his plans for stealing the rinnegan from Nagato.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: Raizen demonstrates great skill at this. He also comes to start playing an especially rapidfire game of this against the similarly skilled members of the Shinobi Alliance.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: As in canon, the tsukuyomi.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Naruto towards Hinata after she starts to feel particularly low confidence after freezing up and almost getting killed in the fight against the Demon Brothers trying to go after Tazuna. The heartwarming moment they share afterwards unfortunately doesn't last very long before Naruto figures out that Sasuke had hidden nearby and started taking pictures. And then Naruto does this to Hinata again after she bemoans being too weak during the Yoshoryuu compound invasion, only for this moment to end up ruined as well by Isaac. And then Hinata gets to finally return the favor when she reminds Naruto of all he has successfully accomplished and changed in the new timeline despite everything from the old timeline that so far has still come to pass, a reminder he is in especially dire need of in his grief over Jiraiya's dying once again.
  • You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious: Whenever Naruto calls Jiraiya by his actual name instead of Ero-Sennin, all present know its a serious matter. It is likewise noticeable whenever Akari calls Sasuke 'Sasuke-Sensei' instead of the usual Duck Butt Sensei.
  • You Can't Fight Fate:
    • While not to the Jerkass level he was at in the original timeline, Neji still undergoes this mindset to a more minor extent out of fear over whether Hinata will truly be strong enough to make the cut as a ninja. He also grows out of this much earlier than in the original timeline by virtue of Hinata ending up strong enough this time around to beat him in their match in the Chunin Exams!
    • Drek and Raizen also hope that this will turn out to be the case if they successfully restore Sasuke's memories of the old timeline. They prove spectacularly wrong in this case.
  • You Dirty Rat!: In a genjutsu he is placed under during his battle against a reanimated Izuna Uchiha once the latter has casted tsukuyomi, there are multiple rats chewing on Sasuke (while he is already bound by stone pillars and engulfed in fire that both heats him up and freezes him at the same time), and even gnawing out his eyes repeatedly even as they regenerate.
  • You Have Failed Me:
    • Raizen gives Drek a major beating via his gravity manipulation powers for failing to completely restore Sasuke's memories of the old timeline, and later makes it clear that he will gladly subject him to an even worse beating (if not outright kill him) if he fails in such an endeavor a 2nd time and isn't subsequently killed by the enemy afterward.
    • It is heavily implied that Orochimaru kills Zaku and Dosu for being defeated in their Chunin Exam matches against Kiba and Temari. Kin only barely avoids suffering the same fate despite losing against Kankuro by at least doing good enough to be granted a 2nd opportunity to fight in the final round, but is nonetheless placed under threat of this by Orochimaru in the event that she fails to defeat (and kill) Neji during their match in the final round. But thanks to Haku, she is ultimately spared from suffering this fate altogether.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: As in canon, Orochimaru abandoned Kimimaro to die the instant he found out about the latter's terminal illness. And once the renegade Uchiha clan member Norio has successfully provided Drakmus with the extra Uchiha eyes (that he stole from his own sister and her husband, and after killing them no less) that Raizen wanted, Drakmus promptly kills him and steals his eyes as well.
  • You Killed My Father: Felix's father Will is killed by a Brainwashed and Crazy Markus/Drakmus in the time prior to the events of this story.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: Itachi pulls this off against Zabuza during their fight in the Land of Waves arc. Sasuke also pulls this off against Orochimaru during the Forest of Death stage of the chunin exams to allow Hinata time to escape. And for a villainous example, Akatsuki attempt to delay Team Kimimaro from reaching their location and rescuing Fuu from their efforts at extracting Chomei by sending first Tobi, and then Hidan and Kakuzu, to head them off. And then Akatsuki work to delay Felix, Nagato, and Team Itachi from foiling their efforts at extracting Matatabi by sending Derek to keep them busy. And Jiraiya ultimately gives his life to allow Itachi and Felix the chance to escape over the course of their duel against Raizen. And later on, when a panicking Derek desperately tries to call upon reinforcements to aid his Kinzoku Kyojin that Sakura is dueling; and, more importantly, WINNING against; said reinforcements (with the exception of a single Chimera) are almost immediately blocked off by Tsunade, Hizashi, Hiashi, and a couple other heavy hitters.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Felix is not at all happy with the fact that Nathan Chihanshu (clan of that very same clan, which happens to be one of the Yoshoryuu Clan's biggest rivals) is one of the only ones who actually supports his desires for action against Raizen.
