Go To

Sonic.exe The Disaster 2D Remake is an 2D Asymmetrical Multiplayer survival-horror game created by Team EXE Empire, originally released in beta and then officially became a full release on 27th July 2023.

Akin to the Roblox game it is based off, one-to-six players out of two-to-seven get assigned as main survivors from their original appearances in .exe games to face off against a single killer picked from the four famous .exes available. The survivor's goal is to wait out the timer until it reaches 1 minute, as at that point, an escape ring will appear on a random spot of the map for them to enter and exit the map. Luckily, their unique abilities should help them achieve that goal, but if they die, they become part of the killer's army.

On the other hand, the selected killer must prevent them from escaping the map alive; some killers get unique abilities to aid them with that, along with the hazards that get featured on the selected maps.

The maps themselves are made from a lot of other popular Sonic horror games, including:

And the list may get updated as time goes on.

The game itself was inspired by Roblox user OutLaikand his Roblox game Sonic.EXE: The Disaster.

Other games

The game contains EXE-amples of these tropes:

  • Anti-Frustration Features:
    • If a character is killed in an unreachable to revive trap, the game will teleport them out to a safer ground to give others the ability to revive them. Except the Majin Forest map, where if you die exactly at the spikes, you might as well be treated as dead, as the game won't teleport you out to safer ground, and any attempt of trying to come close to you will result in others being hit by the spikes and losing their rings.
    • If a Killer camps a dead body, the timer will slow down a little while the killer is close to it.
      • In the recent beta, the timer now stops completly if the killer camps the body.
  • All There in the Manual: On some maps' descriptions, there are such hints, like for example, to go higher on special springs placed on the Tails Nightmare map, you have to hold the jump button or hold up.
  • Achievement System: If you trigger the conditions for an achievement, you get paid with merfycoins. Some may require you to go out of your way to get it, or can be obtained by accident.
  • Adaptation Deviation: There are several things different between this game and the original Roblox game. For instance:
    • Rouge and Shadow are not part of the playable lineup at all.
      • And will never be, as devs confirmed it.
    • Downed survivors cannot crawl to anywhere safe. Once they're down, they stay put until they're either revived, corrupted, or out of the game. They also can't spam the spacebar to slow down their timer.
    • The killers cannot grab the survivors here, though this might be more for convenience.
    • Tails is not shown wearing his Hand Cannon device in his sprite. While in Original, he visibly has it on himself.
    • The Original Sonic.Exe killer can attack the survivours instantly after leaving his invisibility.
  • And Your Reward Is Clothes: You can spend merfycoins in the game's shop on purchasable skins or costumes. These are purely cosmetic and don't have any effect on gameplay.
  • Bottomless Pit: Several of these make up a few of the game's maps, and will cause injury or death to a survivor if they fall in. The one in Majin Forest is harmless, however, and simply warps survivors and killers back up to a safe spot.
  • Concealment Equals Cover: Averted, as hiding has its cons of still being able to be hit by the killers in the roll state or attacks, their disablement of all skills, and the hiding spots vary from height of the character, and the type of cover that can make the playable character either appear being hidden completely, to them being a Paper-Thin Disguise.
  • Competitive Balance: All characters have different skills and abilities applied to them.
  • Dodge by Braking: If you are being chased by the killer, you can try to stop moving for a while, which might make the killer miss you narrowly in some spots.
  • Deliberate Injury Gambit:
    • Demonized Sally's ability is to make the survivor hit her during the shield form, which will hurt the survivor who dealed it.
    • Ditto for Eggman, who can stun the killer by activating the sphere shield around him for a couple of seconds.
  • Difficult, but Awesome:
    • Cream is the only survivor character who has no way of stunning a killer, needing to consistently rely on retreat. However, mastering her ability to summon rings at will makes her a vital team member when fallen allies need reviving, or to heal an active ally a bit if need be.
    • Chaos, of the four killers available, has the hardest moveset to master, in part due to his dash and water morphing, but if mastered, it can really turn the tide in a match.
    • Exetior, without map awareness and knowing where to place his rings for survivors to trigger onto, will be a hard time for the beginners. However, for players used to using it, they can really trip up unsuspecting players at opportune times.
    • Exeller, for people that would start playing as him, it will be hard to understand how to use his clone system, if only there was more information about him and others in the tutorial guide. He is also not that different from the original Sonic.exe killer in the game, as Exetior at least gets a stomp move to back it up with his ring placement traps. But Exeller? Only a clone system instead of invisibility, that's it. Fortunately, this is backed up to let him teleport to any placed clone, which can not only leave other players on edge, but can secure a clever surprise attack when they least expect it.
  • End-Game Results Screen: The new update brings an End Game Results Screen after an round ends, it will show their stats, how much rings they collected or broke, healed up, stunned, how long they were alive, and how much they were chased, or if they are part of the Killer, how much they hit the target, or how many times they have managed to acquire a kill, along with how many rings they broke, and how long they were put into stunned state combined with other survivours.
    • Gameplay Grading: Sometimes, special titles will appear next to an player, they are mostly there to chastise an particular playstyle of Camping such as camping the body, or staying in one spot for too long (which counts as camping?) will make an random quote related to camping appear next to a player.
My skill issue makes me alergic to move
The game made in association with the Exe Empire Discord community.
  • Fist of Rage: When the Original Sonic.Exe killer loses, he clenches his fist into a ball of anger.
  • Face–Monster Turn: When killed, up to three survivors can get corrupted into the killer's minions to assist him in his task. Any other fallen survivors are out of the game permanently unless they are revived.
  • Griefer: They are called Bluds for short, as if they try to perform a teleport cheat, Anti-Cheat will kick in that will display an message A blud used portal gun lmao, and will kick everyone out to the main menu, one famous blud is Blip who will pick Tails every time to shoot you with his infinite charged up laser, and will teleport to you nothing personal style to take you out, fair play be damned.
    • There are also other bluds who don't resort to hacking, but exist just to throw the game by dying as survivor on purpose early, and joining essentially Killer's team, is technically Justified if the Killer has a potato pc and can't keep up with anyone, then go ahead, help him out.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: One of the killers, Chaos. Doesn't demonize survivours in the game Stone Of Darkness he comes from, while in the Disaster the characters that get killed, become demonized regardless if you are playing as Chaos who doesn't do that.
  • Geo Effects: Some levels were specifically designed for that particular character in mind, and some spots are advantageous for the survivours that can juke the killer with.
  • Home-Run Hitter: If the survivours can land an direct attack on the Killer, it will make him go flying from the impact, so much so that they can fall from the platform they were standing and down into the pit, a clear example is an Hide And Seek Act 1 map.
  • Hit-and-Run Tactics: The gameplay of Disaster is this, Killers are trying to hit the survivours, while they can counter it with their own stun attacks and then run away, they get a cooldown after use, then after it ends, they can repeat the process until the escape ring appears.
  • "Hey, You!" Haymaker: Can be envoked by the Killers, if they can catch the survivor off-guard by punching them prematurely by not giving them a single chance to react to your presence, also if you are playing as the Original, you can turn invisibile and turn it off at any time that you can instantly throw a punch after.
  • Hand Cannon: Tails has a Hand Cannon weapon device with him, that can be charged up for a devastating effect, or fire a quick one behind you as a last resort, you can't friendly fire at your own allies with this as it passes through them, but if you are demonized, you will now be able to kill your former allies. The Cannon's beam can pierce through all targets standing in it's way, only a wall can stop it, but with a precise shot, angle, and patience, you can snipe people with this thing, without them knowing what hit them. Can be used in midair, as it stops Tails's momentum instantly. It can also produce a sound cue.
    • In game it's not shown that he wears it on his hand.
  • Idle Animation: Averted, as they are static when standing completely still.
  • I Fight for the Strongest Side!: If a survivor dies, they become demonized and are considered part of the Killer's Team, which will envoke this trope by helping the Killer with it's goal.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Both survivors AND killers have a range of taunts they can use whenever they have the opportunity to do so. The EXEs in particular also sport a variety of voice lines, with those of Sonic.exe and Exeller being taken from their original sources, and Exetior and Chaos getting voice lines specifically for this game.
  • Long Song, Short Scene: The song Mindfuck, plays when you get hit by the red mist, or have collected an red ring, which will make the theme play from 8 to 10 seconds depending on how many rings you have in stock.
  • Limited Window of Vulnerability: If a Killer or a Survivor gets hit by an attack, it will grant them a bit of invincibility frames where they can't be hit, also the Survivor that gets revived, will get some too.
  • Luck-Based Mission: Yellow Rings and Red Rings will spawn around the map, and depending on how many Yellow Rings you will find in your way, is a difference between reviving an ally or healing yourself up. Or if Red Rings spawn exactly where the exit is, may prove an escape during a final countdown to be difficult. Oh and also, Escape Ring spawns at a selected random spots on the map.
  • Last Stand: If you start a 1vs1 or experience a Total Party Kill when you are the only one left.
  • Not Quite Flight: Cream's glide ability, and Knuckles' glide. Also in Tails' description it says that he has Flying instead of Flight.
  • One-Hit Kill: If you get crushed by the closing doors in the Haunting Dream map. You will be killed instantly, regardless if you have full health.
  • Recovery Attack: If being hit by the Killer, you can use an attack move on him, to give you the time to escape from it's persuit.
  • Run or Die: Part of the gameplay loop, if you are not on the move, you are an easy target for the killer.
  • Rolling Attack: 3 out of the 6 survivors have this exclusive ability to roll around on the floor, and when jumping in the air, which when collided with the killer's roll state, will make them bounce around, but don't relay on that too much, as being hit in it's roll state way too much, will cancel it to make the killer deal a clean hit.
  • Snowballing Threat: Literally, during the Nasty Paradise map, there is a threat of the snowballs colluding with the character that will deal damage and will also slow him down.
  • Spin Attack: Amy can swing her hammer around to stun the Killer, while Sally can use her leg to strike the Killer down in the air.
  • Short-Range Long-Range Weapon: Tails's Hand Cannon.
  • Tactical Door Use: The Haunting Dream has doors that you can close in order to stop the Killer's pursuit, but be careful, as you can accidently One-Hit Kill your teammates with it.
  • Trap Master: Eggman and Exetior fall under this category, for Eggman's slowdown traps, and Exetior's deadly rings.
  • Total Party Kill: Can and will happen to you, for all sort of reasons.
  • Timed Mission: Every stage in the game is this; a set amount of time is present to survive or to kill the survivors, which all players should make use of. When a single minute remains, that's the survivors' cue to fully escape the level and guarantee their survival. Failure to escape counts as a fail.
  • Unblockable Attack: Amy's attacks can't be parried.
  • Unnaturally Looping Location: Majin Forest has an endless horizontal loop to it, the looping point being behind the building in the middle of the map.
  • Who Needs Their Whole Body?: Chaos can turn from his normal form, to his water for, which resemble water puddle slime, you can't attack people in this state.
  • Why Am I Ticking?: On the practice map Test Map, there are Merfyrium Cores placed on the top right part of the map, if any player touches them, it will turn them into Merfyrium core along with the text displaying that MY PC WILL EXPLODE IN (X) SECONDS and will start the game of Hot Potato, as the countdown of 3 seconds start to tick away, if it reaches 0, the player will explode and will crash the game.
