While Toni and Fangs get married, Percival sends biblical plagues to the town.

Tropes

  • Bitter Wedding Speech: Veronica does a musical version lamenting her current status as a single woman, making everyone uncomfortable.
  • Cake Toppers: Toni and Fangs's are two snakes swirling the cake, their heads meeting at the top
  • Corpse Land: Downplayed. The ballroom at the end becomes a morgue of sorts, with the dead lying where they fell and the survivors sitting in the middle in shock and grieving.
  • Crucified Hero Shot: Archie working day and night on the train tracks by himself, carries a pilar in a shot reminiscent of Jesus carrying the cross.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Betty cradles Archie and screams for help as he dies.
  • Downer Ending: Archie, Jughead, and newlyweds Toni and Fangs, are killed by Percival’s plague on firstborns.
  • Evil Sorcerer: Cheryl realises that Percival’s powers are much greater than they realised.
  • False Friend: Veronica gives off this impression, having just helped Betty’s relationship with Archie the previous episode, only to ask Tabitha if she has seen in the future if Veronica ends up with him.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Kevin rejoins the gang after witnessing Percival’s spells. He drops the custody suit, as well.
  • Hope Spot: The girls finally take down Percival and place him in the stocks, seemly ending his reign of terror…until he summons locusts.
  • Hope Springs Eternal: The Episode ends with the Deaths of Archie, Fangs, Toni, Nana Rose and manny others, but Heather reveals that she knows a powerful Necromancer named Sabrina who might be able to help them.
  • Improbable Infant Survival: Anthony lives, despite being a firstborn child. Although he’s also stated to play an important role in the future, so Percival may have spared him.
  • Internal Reveal: The gang finally learns that Percival not only has the power of Mind Control but is also a full-on Evil Sorcerer.
  • It's All About Me: Veronica acts like this when she makes Toni and Fangs’s rehearsal dinner about herself and even sings an anti-romance song.
  • Jealous Romantic Witness: Veronica stares at Archie and Betty being happy together.
  • Lohengrin and Mendelssohn: The ceremony.
  • Necromancer: The designation Heather gives Sabrina.
  • Plot Hole: In the last moment of the episode, Percival suffocates Nana Rose and causes the Death of the Firstborn and the causalities include Archie, Fangs, Toni, and Jughead. Betty and Cheryl explain that they survived because they are younger than their respective siblings, but Veronica’s sister Hermosa is only her father’s daughter and Veronica herself is the firstborn child of her mother.
    • Jughead also shares Betty's older half-brother, Charles, who is mentioned by Betty, but Jughead ends up dying along with the others. It can't be because they have different mothers, because then Hermosa wouldn't count for Veronica. Given that Charlies's family interactions have been limited to Betty and Alice recently, it's possible the writers have actually forgotten he's FP's son, not Hal's.
    • In Season 2 it was mentioned that Fangs has an older brother.
    • Unless stepsiblings count, Kevin should also be considered an only child like Archie, so he should have also died.
  • Rule of Three: Jughead is visited in the bunker (while asleep) by Rivervaleans:
  • So Happy Together: All the couples seem to be happy and having a good time, for the first time in a long while. Especially Toni and Fangs, who get married, and Archie and Betty, who just said ‘I Love You’ for the first time. Then, Archie, Toni, Fangs and a bunch of other first borns die.
  • The Ten Plagues of the Bible: Percival sends them the 10 biblical plagues. The livestock pestilence is the only one that doesn’t come into play, and a few are moreso expansions upon a theme:
    • Rivers of Blood: The water coming out of the faucets, and finally, Sweetwater River.
    • The Swarm: Betty sees hordes of bugs outside her window. The kids are seemingly infected with lice. Percival summons locusts to free him from the stockade.
    • Rain of Something Unusual: Played with, as it doesn't rain with them but multiple frogs appear suddenly, at first thought to have escaped from the bio lab at Riverdale High School.
    • Fangs, Carlos, and the workers suddenly suffer boils while playing basketball. Archie gives Percival his indentured servitude to spare their lives.
    • Big Blackout: Percival engulfs the town in literal darkness. It lifts when the gang put him in the stockade.
    • Percival suffocates an ailing Rose Blossom, whom he had earlier set on fire, as the symbolic ‘first child of Riverdale‘ to set off his plague that will murder all first born children in town.
    • Kill It with Fire: Played with, as Cheryl attempts to murder Percival with her pyrokinesis as a wedding present for Toni, but Percival redirects it to Nana Rose.
  • Wartime Wedding: Hope amidst all of Percival’s carnage.
  • Wedding Episode: The main focus and event of the episode, as Toni and Fangs plan their wedding.
  • Wham Episode: Percival curses the Town with the 10 Biblical Plaques. Kevin has a Heel–Face Turn and Toni and Fangs get married, but Percival kills a majority of the main characters through the last of the 10 Plaques, which is the Death of the Firstborns. This leads to Heather contacting Sabrina Spellman in order to help them bring everyone back to life.
  • Wham Line:
Heather: I Believe. I know someone who can help us, a Necromancer far beyond my abilities.
    Cheryl: Who?
    Heather: Her name is Sabrina.
  • Why Don't Ya Just Shoot Him?: Cheryl suggests that she just burn Percival to death with her powers. Everyone else shoots down this idea, with Archie claiming that they’d lose the war between good and evil if they stooped to Percival's level.
