Cheryl uses her lead role as Heather Chandler in the school musical to be further abrasive to and harass Toni, who suffers. The Farm sponsors the musical to recruit members and get to Sweet Pea and Fangs, the former outing Archie and Josie after seeing them kiss at the cast party. Veronica learns that her parents are separating and takes it hard. She wants to reunite with Reggie, but he thinks they should wait until she's not in a crisis. Archie wants a real relationship and Josie, though hesitant, agrees in the end. Jughead sets his childhood trailer ablaze to thwart his mother who is using it as a drug lab.

Tropes

  • Back from the Dead: Albeit only in a hallucination; Kevin imagines seeing Midge's corpse (who briefly moves to look at him), while Fangs mentions having been hallucinating her.
  • Call-Back: To last season's musical episode, which infamously ended with Midge dying.
  • Dead Person Conversation: Narrowly averted. When Kevin imagines seeing Midge's corpse, she looks at him and looks as if she's about to start talking, but the scene ultimately cuts away.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: During their feud, Cheryl is pissed when Toni starts wearing her trademark red color.
  • Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure: Toni and Cheryl's feud, which ends up being the reason Cheryl puts on a musical; to vent her anger and frustration. They've reconciled by the end of the episode.
  • Prisoner's Last Meal: Metaphorically referenced. During Toni's song, "Dead Girl Walking", she sings about wanting to spend her last 30 hours to live "getting freaky" with a love interest whom she compares to her "last meal on death row."
  • Properly Paranoid: Betty suspects that Mr. Weatherbee may be involved with The Farm. She's right.
  • Wham Line: Veronica's parents reveal to her that they are divorcing.
  • Wham Shot: During the closing number of the musical, the audience stands to reveal that most of them, including Mr. Weatherbee, are involved with The Farm.
