A parent-teacher conference at Riverdale High leads Hiram to drastic measures. Meanwhile, Veronica tries to file for divorce, Archie encounters his former CO, and Jughead does some dangerous things for inspiration.

Tropes:

  • Ambiguous Situation: When meeting with Chadwick, Veronica questions if the helicopter crash they nearly died in was deliberately done by Chadwick as he was driving. Chadwick doesn’t answer, but his shocked reaction could either be realising that she knows or disbelief that she would think that.
  • Birthday Episode: Much of the episode takes place during Juniper and Dagwood’s ninth birthday party. Although they have a party, it’s implied that they don’t have many friends...then it gets derailed by the arrival of Charles and Chip.
  • Cliffhanger: It ends with Jughead missing from the Bunker, with blood on the desk and the implication that he’s been abducted by aliens. It’s also the last episode until July.
  • Creepy Twins: Dagwood and Juniper are becoming this after pushing a classmate down the stairs for making fun of their mother’s disappearance and displaying no remorse.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: All over the place during Jughead’s drug trip.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Charles can’t go through with making Juniper stab Glenn, so he lets her and her brother go and makes Betty do it in her niece’s place.
  • Foot-Dragging Divorcee: Chadwick in spades.
  • General Ripper: Archie’s former CO is shown to be this.
  • I Will Find You: Betty vows to find Polly alive or dead, no matter what happens.
  • Kill It with Fire: Reggie’s nuclear option for getting the Blossom fields is to burn them down.
  • Loophole Abuse: Just as Hiram and Reggie are celebrating buying the Blossom fields, Cheryl enters to point out the contract is invalid because "I had Nana declared legally incompetent half a decade ago."
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Cheryl, Nana Rose and Penelope pray to the Blossom family ancestors to save their fields from the fire. It works, but it easily could have been the winds changing direction during their prayer. note
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Minerva runs away from Thornhill when the Blossoms ponder on sacrificing her.
  • The Sociopath: Hiram displays this trait once again as he plans a prison escape to destroy Riverdale High, not caring that there are innocent parents there with Archie and Kevin for the parent-teacher conference.
  • Suddenly Voiced: Dagwood speaks for the first time in the series.
  • Tear Up the Contract: Nana Rose sells the Blossom groves without Cheryl's permission. When Cheryl finds out and confronts her about it, Rose claims the groves were cursed and that selling them would liberate the family from its "demons", but Cheryl doesn't care and angrily tears up the contract Rose signed. Later, it's revealed that Cheryl declared Nana Rose legally senile that any contract she signed would be null and void. Unlike most examples of this trope, tearing up the contract is actually followed by an attempt to legally nullify it.
