A great place to get away with it all.

Starting his sophomore year of high school, Archie Andrews experiences three life-changing moments in his hometown of Riverdale. First, he finally finds his calling: music. Second, new arrival Veronica Lodge enrols at Riverdale High and rocks the stability of his relationship with his best friends, introverted Jughead Jones and girl-next-door Betty Cooper. Third, the town is shocked by the murder of football player Jason Blossom. As Jason's twin sister, Cheryl, vows to bring his killer to justice, Archie and his friends decide to do an amateur investigation of their own and learn about the secrets that lay in the underbelly of their town — secrets that their parents are privy to.

A serial killer called the Black Hood terrorises Riverdale to purge those he believes have committed sins and seems to have a particular interest in Betty. The town also faces the resurgence of the Southside Serpents biker gang, its even more dangerous rival, the Ghoulies, and the return of ex-convict Hiram Lodge, Veronica's father. He has designs in mind for Riverdale.

Let the game begin.

Riverdale is enveloped in a drug-fueled, deadly obsession over a board game called Gryphons & Gargoyles, whose symbol, the Gargoyle King, induces its players to commit suicide. Archie and his friends, now juniors, must deal with this while figuring out a way to bail the former out of prison following his arrest for a crime. Meanwhile, Betty investigates a cult that her mother and sister have joined, whose promise of salvation masks a sinister purpose.

As the senior year starts, Archie and his friends prepare for their plans after graduation. Faced with the sudden loss of his father, Archie struggles to channel his frustration into something positive. Jughead moves to a prep school and gets himself and his friends entangled in yet another murder mystery. Betty is dealing with the fallout of the Farm's dismantlement and the issues surrounding her family. Veronica runs her speakeasy-turned-club with Cheryl's help, albeit with the baggage status of being the daughter of two accused criminals.

Archie and his friends solve the last mystery of their high school life before parting ways upon graduation. Seven years later, Archie returns to Riverdale to bring the band back together, initially to save Riverdale High from closure by applying as teachers, then to investigate disappearances of women in and around the town, and finally, to thwart whatever new plans Hiram are concocting. Along the way, they must face lingering issues that arose during the years they spent apart from each other.

And the only one who seems aware of it is Jughead…But once Riverdale is restored, an incident results in Archie, Betty, Jughead and Bingo gaining powers. Which they’ll need as they and their friends confront foes from both present and past.
