Tropes

  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Mr. Featherhead is once again the principal in 1955, though he's played by a different actor.
    • Hal is once more alive, as is Dilton Doiley.
  • Bus Crash: In this reality, Fred was killed in the Korean War.
  • Cassandra Truth: Naturally, Jughead's claims to the gang they're all from the future aren't believed in the slightest, even when he produces the items they buried in the time capsule when they graduated, which somehow survived the time warp.
  • Contrapposto Pose: Veronica in the doorway to the classroom as she's introduced.
  • Creating Life Is Unforeseen: Julian the doll is suddenly a human teen and Cheryl's brother, seemingly in place of her actual human brother, Jason.
  • Gratuitous French: Veronica, upon her arrival in Riverdale.
    Veronica: Enchanté, I'm sure.
  • Introductory Opening Credits: For the first time in the show, and a spoof on Happy Days.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Knowing Jughead's knowledge of the future can mess things up, Angel Tabitha wipes his memory of the past.
  • Magic Kiss: Angel!Tabitha takes away Jughead's memory with a kiss.
  • No Equal-Opportunity Time Travel: Jughead is forced to face the issues of the 1950s as Tabitha, Toni and other students of color attend Riverdale High but there are no black teachers. The murder of Emmett Till also plays a part.
  • Parental Abandonment: It turns out Veronica was basically exiled to Riverdale by her parents after she was involved in James Dean's accident as their TV show is all they think about.
  • Put on a Bus: Tabitha in this timeline leaves to tour the country with Emmett Till's family, while Angel!Tabitha of the original timeline has to attend to business untangling the various timelines and only shows up briefly at the end of the episode.
  • The Reveal: Angel!Tabitha tells Jughead the comet did hit in the future and caused an extinction-level event. She sent the gang back in time to keep them safe while she tries to fix the timeline.
    • Angel!Tabitha also mentions the timelines are tangled and she needs to sort them out. However, she states that she used the last of her own life-source to save everyone. Does this mean she is dead?
  • Shout-Out:
    • The opening credits are themed to Happy Days.
    • Hiram and Hermione are the stars of a TV show clearly based on I Love Lucy.
  • Stepford Suburbia: It’s immediately established that 1950s Riverdale isn’t much better than the present.
  • Written-In Absence: Jughead's opening narration mentions that Reggie isn't there and Jughead doesn't know why.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain:
    • Jughead is happy to see Tabitha return from the Emmett Till murder trial in Mississippi, expecting her to help, only to find that not only does she believe she's from this time but she barely knows him.
    • Jughead is excited to hear Bailey's Comet is returning...then learns it's in two years.
