Nothing I ever do is good enough for you, is it? But just because your life is crap doesn't give you the right to take it out on me. You beat me... punched down at me my whole damn life. But I stayed. After all you did... I stayed. Not anymore. Hiram has done more with his life than you ever will. And as far as I know, he never laid a finger on his wife... or daughter.
Reggie

Hiram discusses his early beginnings with Reggie, while Reggie takes an in-depth look at the relationship he has with his father.

Tropes

  • Distracted by the Luxury: Hiram's new wardrobe and eagerness to splurge win Hermione over.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: Hiram sadly notes that Reggie saw his tale of losing his father, his name, and his soul as a grand Self-Made Man success story rather than a warning for Reggie not to make his mistakes.
  • Freudian Excuse: Hiram’s reasons for his actions throughout the series have been revealed in this Episode:
    • Hiram holds a grudge against the town. Because they looked down on his father for being a shoeshiner, and he wants to find the palladium because he wants to fulfil his father’s dream.
    • Hiram resents Archie because he saw his younger self in him, and he still regrets his actions when he was a teen.
  • Identical Grandson: As in "The Midnight Club", the actors playing the modern gang portray their parents in the flashbacks while Michael Consuelos plays the younger Hiram and Mark Consuelos plays Hiram's father.
  • Origins Episode: How Hiram began his rise to power is explored.
  • The Reveal: Hiram built the prison over a vein of palladium and had the prisoners dig for it. When the vein ran out, Hiram looked to an even bigger one...under the Blossom land.
  • Shadow Archetype: Hiram is what would have happened to Archie if he didn't eventually choose his father over Hiram.
  • Shout-Out: Jughead likens Hiram to Michael Corleone and Tony Soprano in his narration — other mafioso "heroes" of their own story. References to The Godfather in particular abound; most notably the hit at Pop's, and Hiram's protracted vengeance against the mob boss responsible for his father's murder.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Reggie gives one to his abusive father.
  • Villain Episode: Hiram's origins and core motivations are revealed.
