S2 - Ep 6: Death To Normality - Part 1

As Camila goes and comes to terms about Luz, she gets an uninvited visitor. As Luz goes on her way to the Wittebane Mega Church, she's challenged by another, more powerful assassin.

This chapter contains examples of:

  • Alone with the Psycho: Camila is this with Jonah in her own home.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: The red Energy Ball Sophia fires is actually able to shatter Luz's barrier, the first time any opponent could do that and send her rocketing into a nearby store by the explosion.
  • Artistic License – Biology: According to Camila, Jonah suffers no ill effects from his gigantism like constant pain and migraines. His insanely large size should render him far more susceptible to crippling injuries.
  • Aura Vision: Luz could tell Sophia was a Quirk user with this before she attacked.
  • Badass Boast:
    • On the way to the Wittebane Mega Church, Luz is confronted by another squadron of 8 cops holding her at gun-point. The unimpressed All For One user, warns them the last group of cops that tried this didn't work out for them.
Luz: Now… I don’t think I need to tell you guys how much of a dumb idea this is, do I?The last group of police got turned into smears on the road for attempting this. So long as you don’t fire your guns—any of you—you all can go home, have dinner with your families, and forget about what it is that happened today, kay?” (Narrows her flashing red eyes, as she smirks). Of course, we can also do things the fun way, but that’s up to you.
    • Sophia delivers one to Luz on how her power will defeat her.
Sophia: My power, Limitless, will prove that beyond all else, even a giant like yourself can fall. As a member of The Wittebane Church’s Militia unit, I, Sophia Humbolt, was given orders to have you killed. Prepare to Die, girl.
  • Blessed with Suck: On her way to the Wittebane Mega Church, Luz remarks to herself that ever since she woke up with her Quirk her life has pretty been ruined and can never go back to normal, even if she finds peace in killing Tyler Wittebane.
  • Body Horror: Luz sustains a lot of damage from Sophia's attack despite her forcefield taking most of the impact, with Clothing Damage being the least of her worries. The skin and muscle on her left arm and most of her upper body had been blown off, revealing the girl's bones and internal organs.
  • Boom, Headshot!: This how Camila is murdered.
  • By-the-Book Cop: One of the officers tries to stop his partner from shooting Luz in a fit of rage.
  • By the Hair: Jonah lifts Camila by the hair as he explains before he kills her that he was sent here because Riley failed to kill Luz.
  • Collateral Damage: Luz wants to keep this to a minimum. The Wittebane assassin she fights doesn't feel as strongly as her.
  • Clothing Damage: Sophia's Energy Ball attack ruins Luz's tank-top and she decides to commandeer a shirt from the store she crashed in.
  • Cop Killer Manhunt: This appears to happen to Luz, not that the police had anything to stop her.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: Camila laments that Luz would have a better quality of life if she never sent her to Reality Check Camp.
  • Cult: Luz describes the Wittebane Mega Church as this.
  • Death by Adaptation: Unlike the series, Camila is murdered by a Wittebane assassin.
  • A Death in the Limelight: The first half focuses on Camila until she's murdered by a Wittebane hitman.
  • The Dreaded:
    • Camila sees Jonah as this due to being infamous for sheer size and murder of his own wife.
    • After being knocked into a nearby store by the hitwoman's attack, many customers and store owners ran away as fast as they could when they saw her get up, heading toward the exit. Luz laments her Hero with Bad Publicity reputation preceeds her.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Sophia is described as having black hair and pasty skin.
  • Emerald Power: When using her Quirk, Camila's hands glow green.
  • Empty Shell: Camila described Luz as her husk of her former self after summer camp.
  • Energy Ball: Sophia's Quirk attacks take the form of these that are basketball-sized.
  • Enfant Terrible: Jonah snarks that Luz is a terrifying little girl.
  • Evil Laugh: Jonah chuckles evilly as he's suffocating Camila.
  • Excessive Evil Eyeshadow: Sophia's a Wittebane assassin with black-painted circles around her eyes.
  • Eye Scream: Sitting in a pool of her own blood, Luz also notices she's missing her right eye from Sophia's Quirk.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Despite being in great pain, believing she failed as a mother and knowing she's going to die alone with only her would-be murderer as witness, she has the fortitude to Go Out with a Smile saying she has had a full life and believing Luz will succeed in avenging her murder.
Camila Noceda: (Smiles) I-I’d rather die then… I’ve already lived a fulfilling life… the only regret I have is making my baby go to that horrid camp
  • Faux Affably Evil: Jonah puts on an act of being polite and somewhat cordial towards Camila, even when he's scaring the crap out her with his presence and trying to kill her.
  • Fitness Nut: Downplayed. Camila notes another less extreme change about Luz is her becoming this, actively going to the gym to work out on a regular basis. The old Luz was dicey around the idea of gratuitous exercise, but this is because its a requirement to hold more Quirks.
  • For the Evulz: Jonah takes a sick pleasure in his assassinations and gets disappointed when Camila stops being afraid of him.
  • The Giant: Camila comments that Jonah would’ve become a pro wrestler had it not been for the fact that he had committed… well, the crime that he did. Given his size, he would've been this.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: The second All For One user notes as she recovers from Sophia's attack, if it wasn’t for her Pain Nullification and Super Regeneration, she would’ve been dead a long time ago. Shigaraki was right about those Quirks being must-haves.
  • Hypocrite: Sophia calls Luz out for being a Cop Killer, yet has no problems trying wipe out a whole squad of them with Luz stopping her.
  • I Have No Son!: Defied. Despite what Luz would believe, Camila would never disown her daughter, because Luz was her own flesh and blood. She wanted to stick by her side as much as she could.
  • Jawbreaker: Luz could also feel air passing through her lower jaw... then realising that was missing now due to Sophia's attack.
  • It's All My Fault: Filled with guilt and shame, Camila blames herself for everything that's happened to her daughter in the past month.
The amount of guilt that racked the Noceda Matriarch was unlike any she had felt before. What happened at that camp was something that Camila could have never seen coming, Luz and Dr. Rodriquez said so. She knew that, and yet she blamed herself for sending Luz there. Luz should have never gone to that camp. If she hadn’t sent Luz to that camp, then Luz would have been happier. She wouldn’t have to deal with all this.
  • Kick the Dog: Jonah takes delight in terrifying the defenceless Camila and tossing her around like a ragdoll in her kitchen with his powers before finally killing her.
  • Killed Off for Real: Camila. Just poor Camila.
  • Last Disrespects: He gives Camila's still warm corpse a kick just for the fun.
  • Mama Didn't Raise No Criminal: Camila has a hard time wrapping her head around the fact Luz just moments before told her she was going to go kill more people outside of self-defence.
  • My Greatest Failure: Camila sees sending Luz to summer camp as this.
    Camila: Oh, Luz… I’m so… so sorry…
  • Neck Lift: Jonah Smith does this to Camila with his "smoky" arm.
  • Not So Similar: When a new assassin starts a fight with Luz by firing a attacks at the squad of cops but Luz intercepts it with her Forcefield Projection. Despite being seen as the bad guy by her own town, Luz doesn't want to become like Shigaraki.
She wasn’t a monster. She wasn’t a villain. She wasn’t going to be like him.
  • Oh, Crap!: Camila screams out in horror when Jonah, a Wittebane assassin, makes his presence known to her in her house. She knew what he did to his wife from the news.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The hitwoman's Quirk isn't one Shigaraki recognizes from his home world, as one he possessed, saw or even heard about. Meaning his knowledge will be limited in helping his protegee. It seems Luz's Realm has generated its own unique powers from My Hero Academia. He recommends stealing it.
  • Prepare to Die: Sophia says this to Luz while fighting her.
  • Psychotic Smirk: Sophia shows this at times when fighting Luz.
  • Rabid Cop: After hearing Luz killed some of his brothers in arms, one of the cops tries to shoot to kill in a fit of blind rage.
  • Red Baron: Riley is referred to as the "Bombardier" by Jonah.
  • Red Is Violent: Sophia wears a red parka and is a battle maniac. The red orbs of her Quirk are incredibly potent repelling blast.
  • Revenge is Sweet: Luz is hoping this will be the case when killing the Wittebanes.
  • The Runaway: Camila is under no illusion that Luz going to be coming back home, not because she'd disown her but because the town of Gravesfield won't let her and now a wanted criminal.
  • Scars Are Forever: Luz remarks that even with her regeneration, it leaves some scaring on her body.
  • Sadist: Jonah takes great delight in terrifying Camila, suffocating her and tossing the poor woman around like a ragdoll in her own kitchen with his powers. He only stops when she shows no more fear of him and decides to just off out of annoyance.
  • Shout-Out:The Wittebane assassin, Sophia Humbolt, has a Quirk called "Limitless". Yes, that Limitless used by Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen.
  • Space Master: Sophia's Quirk allows her to create orbs of blue and red energy that warp space around them. Red is a purely offensive move, whereas Blue is mostly defensive.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Camila considers Riley trying to murder Luz to be this.
  • Tomboy: Camila remarks that Luz was always this more than a “girlie-girl.”
  • Took a Level in Cynic: Camila notes Luz had become jaded and extremely pessimistic after everything that's happened in the past month.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Downplayed. The "Repair" Quirk would be this to Camila from Luz, if she wasn't assassinated.
  • Trauma Conga Line: As Camila is about to break down in tears with her face in her hands, she left asking her why this is happening to her family. First, her husband, Manny, died of acute heart failure, then her parents died in an earthquake, and now her daughter had been put through hell and back by pretty much everyone around them. They weren't even safe from her own family, considering her niece Riley just tried to murder Luz not too long ago. Camila doesn't even have the closure of an explanation on why she'd do something so unforgivable to her own blood. Then Jonah shows up...
  • Trapped in Villainy: When Camila hears from Jonah that Riley was ordered to kill Luz, she believes her niece wasn’t given a choice in the matter.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Having noticed her once Genki Girl daughter has become jaded and... extremely pessimistic after the Deadly Game, she still didn't expect her to openly announce the fact that she was more than fine with committing murder. Camila admits she barely recognises her own child anymore.
She used to be so energetic, so full of life! But now she was… almost like a husk. When she looked at Luz, Camila didn’t see her daughter. She saw someone who looked like her daughter, sounded like her, and had the same likes and dislikes, but she wasn’t her daughter.
  • Villain Has a Point:
    • When Luz is trying to talk the cops out trying to engage in fighting her, Sophia isn't wrong when she points out that Luz just became a Cop Killer and their fallen brothers and sisters deserve justice.
    • Luz admits Shigaraki was right about keeping the "Super Regeneration" Quirk with all fatal injuries she's been receiving all day.
  • Wham Episode: Camila is murdered. Anyone Can Die in this story, not just the Original Characters.
  • Worthy Opponent: Sophia the hitwoman is impressed with Luz's powers and abilities enough to compliment her on it, seeing the girl as this.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Jonah takes great pleasure in torturing and killing Luz's mother.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Luz seems to have this attitude to fighting yet another superpowered assassin.
  • You Killed My Mother: While Camila has no doubts that Luz will defeat all the assassins sent after her and avenge her murder, her final thoughts are that she truly doesn't want Luz to kill anyone in her name.
Luz: First it was Riley and that child… now it’s this random woman. Seriously?! Just how annoying can this day get?!
