Main Characters

    Pizzelle

Pizzelle "Suzette" Theodore

"That damn spire isn't gonna know what hits 'em when I'm through!"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pizzy.jpg
Ugh, bad.

The main character of Sugary Spire. A local candy maker who owns an ice cream parlor and uses a scooter as her method of transportation. She has the physical appearance of The Noise, but the role and personality of Peppino.

  • Gender Flip: Both Peppino and The Noise are male, but Pizzelle has been confirmed by the developers to be a trans female.
  • Girls with Moustaches: She retains The Noise's moustache, despite being Gender Flipped to female.
  • Made of Iron: Like Peppino, she’s invincible, and any damage dealt to her goes to her score. The only way she can die is if Coneball touches her during a Sugar Rush.
  • Meaningful Name: She's named after a traditional Italian waffle cookie, which fits with her job as a candy maker.
  • Mood-Swinger: Similarly to Peppino, she is this. However, while Peppino's mood constantly changes from anxious dread to unstoppable rage and vice-versa, Pizzelle's mood constantly switches between Peppino-esque worriedness (when idle) and more The Noise-esque energeticness (when dashing).
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: She's shown with prominent eyelashes in some official art. Otherwise, she doesn't look particularly feminine.
  • Youthful Freckles: A few close ups on her reveal that she has these.

    Rosette and Marble

Rosette and Marble

"Look what I've got for ya!"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/froggo.jpg

A cheerful girl who inexplicably looks a lot like Pizzelle and her pet Chocolate Frog. Rosette has the physical appearance and personality of Noisette, but the role of Gustavo.

  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: They have been confirmed by the developers to have their own playable sections, like with Gustavo and Brick in Pizza Tower.
  • Cheery Pink: Rosette is possibly the most cheerful out of the main cast, and has a pink color scheme.
  • Expy: Marble is one for Brick from Pizza Tower. Both serve as mounts for the game's secondary playable character and are playable versions of a recurring enemy that can only be killed by Transformations (Stupid Rats for Pizza Tower, Chocolate Frogs for Sugary Spire).
  • Inexplicably Identical Individuals: Rosette looks extremely similar to Pizzelle, despite seemingly not being related to her.
  • Shout-Out: Marble's face is directly based on Freddo Frog, an Australian anthropomorphic frog-shaped chocolate bar.

Supporting Characters

    The G

The G

"Yas better pay up!"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/theg.jpg

A short guy with a mustache in a suit who has the physical appearance of Gustavo, but a personality and role similar to Mr. Stick.

    Rudy

Rudy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rudydude.jpg

A blue gummy bear with a chill, carefree personality wearing sunglasses who serves as the game's Gerome equivalent. He is also Gummy Harry’s nephew.

  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: He's a blue bear. Justified, as he's a gummy bear. Notably averted in earlier stages of development, as he was originally supposed to be brown, like a grizzly bear.
  • Anthropomorphic Food: He's a living gummy bear. Therefore, he doubles as a Funny Animal.
  • Funny Animal: He's a bipedal blue gummy bear with seemingly human-level intelligence.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: He wears a cap, sunglasses, gloves, pants and shoes, but lacks a shirt.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Unlike Gerome, who's a Perpetual Frowner, Rudy is constantly grinning. Earlier in development, he was supposed to be an enemy, which made his smile look outright psychotic.

    Confecti

Confecti

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/confectis.jpg

The game's Toppin equivalents. As with the Toppins, they're living collectables that are found in each level, caged. You can free them by touching them. They consist of a marshmallow, a chocolate bar, a s'more, a gummy worm and a wrapped candy.

  • Blush Stickers: The marshmallow and wrapped candy Confecti both have these.
  • Dissonant Serenity: The mashmallow gets lit on fire during Sugar Rush sequences, but it still keeps the same bored expression it usually has.
  • Expy: They serve as candy-themed expies to the Toppins from Pizza Tower.
  • Good Counterpart: The s'more Confecti is a smaller, friendly version of the Smoreknight enemies that are the game's Forknight equivalents.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The chocolate Confecti usually has a chill demeanor, but once Sugar Rush starts, he suddenly starts dressing in baseball gear, slamming the floor rapidly with the bat out of paranoia.

    Ice Pop

Ice Pop

The game's Pizza Granny equivalent. An upside-down ice cream cone constantly smoking a cigar who teaches you tutorials.

  • Cigar Chomper: A rare heroic example. He's constantly smoking a cigar, and is never seen without it, but he does nothing other than help you.
  • Gender Flip: He's the game's Pizza Granny equivalent, but Ice Pop is male, while Pizza Granny is female.
  • Good Counterpart: Like Coneball, he's an upside-down ice cream cone with a face, but Coneball is the game's Big Bad, while Ice Pop is a Mr. Exposition who teaches you tutorials.
  • Mr. Exposition: Slated to serve as the person who teaches you tutorials, like Pizza Granny in Pizza Tower.

    Gumbob

Gilbert Gumbob Garcia

"It's me, chumps! Remember ol' Gumbob?"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gumbob.jpg
See ya later, nerd!

A goofy, crazy pink slime in a hat. He was originally intended as a playable role-swapped version of The Vigilante with Pepperman's role, but his current role in the game is unknown.

  • Cloudcuckoolander: As shown in background material, he isn't very sane in the head. For example, in one promotional comic, he's shown asking Stinky for bizarre inventions such as "deodorant for crocodiles" and "BBQ-flavored shoes" despite him not even being a shopkeeper.
  • Middle Name Basis: He's referred to as Gumbob, which is his middle name.
  • Perpetual Smiler: He rarely ever stops smiling, fitting with his Cloudcuckoolander nature.

    The Painter

The Painter

"Die!!!!!"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/painterboss.jpg

An anthropomorphic paintbrush who serves as one of Pizzelle's allies with a currently unknown role.

  • Cyclops: He only has one giant eye.
  • Expy: Originally, he was going to serve as the game's Pepperman equivalent. Both were the first bosses of their respective games, are painters and have a more realistic eye design than most characters in their respective games. The Painter even looks like Pepperman's Anthropomorphic Shift design on his Versus Character Splash screen. This has become an Artifact, however, as The Painter is no longer planned to be the first boss.
  • Mythology Gag: His appearance very closely resembles Pepperman's realistic Art Shift design on his Versus Character Splash screen.
  • Non-Human Head: He has a human body, but his head is a paintbrush with a face.
  • Spell My Name with a "The": His name is The Painter.
  • Tombstone Teeth: He has very prominent, blocky teeth.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: He has a broad, muscular torso, contrasting with his tiny, skinny legs.
  • Warm-Up Boss: Was slated to be the first boss in the game, but this was scrapped.

Bosses

    Coneball

Coneball

"Huh-heh-heh-heh-huh-HUH!"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ball_of_cone.jpg

The game's Big Bad and Pizzaface equivalent. An upside-down ice cream cone with 3 constantly moving holes that act as facial features. They start chasing you after the Sugar Rush timer ends, and One-Hit Kill you upon touch.

  • Eldritch Abomination: Even more lovecraftian than Pizzaface, as Coneball is shown to have various Lovecraftian Superpowers such as summoning spikes out of their body, Voluntary Shapeshifting and summoning a rain of strawberry ice cream to kill you with, all of which are shown off in the demo.
  • Evil Laugh: They laugh whenever they spawn, and in earlier stages of development, use their rain attack.
  • Expy:
    • They serve as one to Pizzaface. Both are round, flying Big Bads that chase you once the Collapsing Lair timer ends, killing you upon touch.
    • Oddly enough, they're also a whole-character reference to Void. Both are white-colored Eldritch Abominations with constantly moving, flexible holes that serve as facial features, have an attack that involves summoning spikes from their body and, as shown in promotional artwork, both have the ability to turn one of their holes into an eye. This makes their similarity to Coneboy even more apparent, as Coneboy is inspired by Kirby.
  • Extra Eyes: They gain two extra eyes whenever they use their rain attack in the demo.
  • Ghostly Gape: Their "face" consists of 3 constantly moving holes.
  • Non-Human Non-Binary: Is genderfluid according to word of god, and they're a flying ice cream cone that kills you in one hit.
  • Stalked by the Bell: Like Pizzaface, they start chasing you once the Sugar Rush timer ends. Once they hit you, you're dead.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Much like how Pizzaface can change his face into different pizza toppings to change his facial expressions, Coneball can change their flavor at will, as demonstrated in the demo, where they turn into a strawberry-flavored ice cream whenever they use their rain attack. By default, they're vanilla flavored.

    Pizzano

The Pizzano

"It's-a me! Pizzano the Paisano!"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pizzano.jpg

An overweight Italian Manchild in a blue superhero outfit who's a recurring foe throughout the game. He has the character design of Peppino, but has The Noise's role, outfit, and some aspects of his personality. He's also Stinky's boss.

  • Adaptational Dye-Job: The superhero outfit he wears is based on The Noise's, but it's blue rather than yellow.
  • Ambiguously Evil: It's left ambiguous whether he's actively malicious, or if he's doing his actions out of playfulness or stupidity.
  • Dastardly Whiplash: Although a Fat Bastard rather than the standard Lean and Mean, he otherwise fits the trope to a t. He has the mustache and Zany Schemes, and is shown pulling various tricks on Pizzelle, such as driving a train after her in Sugarshack Mines or shooting bombs at her from the foreground in Dance-off.
  • Fat and Skinny: The fat to Stinky's skinny.
  • Fat Bastard: Retains Peppino's overweight physique, but has The Noise's role, making him this by default.
  • Leitmotif: Pizzano's Obligatory Orchestral Play. His escape theme is Blue Licorice. In earlier stages of development, his leitmotif was instead Pizzano's Gnarly Action-packed Themetune, a Dark Reprise medley of all of Pizza Tower's World 1 themes and "It's Pizza Time", the escape theme from that game.
  • Manchild: The website showcases a scenario told from Pizzelle's point of view, where Pizzano barges into Pizzelle's candy shop while on skis, doing what's described as "a home budget recreation of an action scene", which involves jumping out of the windows of Pizzelle's candy shop "like it (is) on fire". To make matters worse, he then goes to Pizzelle's counter asking for pizza, in a candy shop. Pizzelle then explains that she doesn't sell pizza, which leads to Pizzano throwing a tantrum, explaining that he "hadn't had it since this morning". Pizzelle then gives in and makes a candy pizza for Pizzano, which Pizzano is upset with, although he's content with the effort she put into it and tips her 20 dollars.
  • Mean Boss: He treats his helper, Stinky, like crap, as shown in promotional artwork. Not only is he shown forcing him to do stressful jobs, but he also insults him for making bad coffee and yells at him for deeming bringing a tank into the house impossible.
  • Spell My Name with a "The": He refers to himself as The Pizzano, with promotional material alternating between usage of the "The" and omitting it altogether.
  • Villain Protagonist: Though he's Pizzelle's most recurring foe, he's also slated to be playable, similar to The Noise in Pizza Tower.

Other

    Gummy Harry

Gummy Harry

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/harrydude.jpg

The game's Pillar John equivalent. A humongous red gummy bear who sits motionless at the end of each level. when killed, he starts the level's Sugar Rush sequence. He is also Rudy’s uncle.

  • Expy: Of Pillar John. Both are giant creatures that reside at the end of most levels in the game, and start the game's Collapsing Lair sequence upon defeat. In addition, they have similar faces, eye designs and both have bandages on them.
  • Harmless Enemy: Like Pillar John, he can't attack you or move away. He can be killed, though, which starts the Sugar Rush sequence.
  • Load-Bearing Boss: Once killed, the entire level starts to collapse, which is inherited from Pillar John.
  • Pointless Band-Aid: Like Pillar John, he has a bunch of bandages despite being made of a bloodless material, in this case, jelly. They're used to show that he's easily killable without him being able to do anything to stop you.
  • Shout-Out: His name is a reference to Haribo, a German candy brand known for gummy bears among other things.

    Stinky

Phil Stimpy Rodriguez

"Hey, who said my name is Stinky!?"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/phil_72.jpg

A friendly tinkerer who works for Pizzano. As seen in promotional artwork, he's constantly forced to do complicated tasks by Pizzano, to the point where he's shown imagining himself shooting Pizzano in the face with Heat Vision. He has Mr. Stick's design, but Noisette's role. His outfit and personality are mostly original, though.

  • Embarrassing Nickname: Stinky is actually a nickname for Phil Stimpy Rodriguez. Judging from his official Carrd quote, he does not seem to be fond of it.
  • Fat and Skinny: The skinny to Pizzano's fat.
  • Only Sane Man: Serves as a saner contrast between Pizzano and Gumbob. While Pizzano and Gumbob are rather dumb and constantly force Stinky to perform various outlandish (and often bizarre) tasks, Stinky is quick to explain the weirdness of them, which Pizzano and Gumbob don't understand.

    Dimplo and Yello

Dimplo and Yello

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dimployello.jpg
Top: Yello. Bottom: Dimplo

A duo consisting of a large gray blob named Dimplo and a tiny yellow blob named Yello. They're featured in various comics posted on Twitter / X by BabbleDaggle and have a currently unknown role.

  • Black Bead Eyes: Yello's eyes are small, black and lack sclerae.
  • The Cameo: They cameo on a sign in a currently unknown level.
  • Canon Foreigner: They have no Pizza Tower counterparts.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: This is the best way of describing their dynamic. Though their specific relationship with one another is unknown, Dimplo is fairly large, while Yello is pint-sized.
  • Meaningful Name: Yello is colored yellow, which is one letter away from her name.
  • Sphere Eyes: Dimplo's eyes are large and overlap each other.

    M'lass

M'lass

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mlass.jpg

A local celebrity in Molasses Swamp. He's a brown frog in a hat who appears in a cameo appearance as graffiti in Molasses Swamp. However, there's more lore to him than meets the eye. He has a fanpage made by Pizzelle on the official website, which is dedicated to telling about his backstory.

  • All There in the Manual: In the game proper, he's only ever shown as graffiti in Molasses Swamp, but the website has an entire in-character fanpage made by Pizzelle in-universe, which reveals his entire backstory. It reveals that he appeared in various commercials during Pizzelle's childhood, ranging from shampoo to chocolate chips, and was popular among the general public about a decade before the events of Sugary Spire. Eventually, he was exposed as cheating on his wife with the daughter of the creator of the "Wilka" chocolate brand, which caused his popularity to decline. After which, M'lass disappeared without a trace.
  • Artistic License – Biology: The Wilka chocolate brand mentioned in his fanpage is revealed on a different part of the website to contain frog milk. Real life frogs are amphibians, with milk being exclusive to mammals.
  • Bland-Name Product: The "Wilka" brand of frog milk chocolate mentioned in his fanpage is the Sugary Spire-universe's equivalent of real life Milka bars.
  • Canon Foreigner: Like Dimplo and Yello, he has no Pizza Tower counterpart.
  • Informed Species: He doesn't look much like a frog due to having hands and blunt feet instead of webbed feet, like real life frogs. The biggest clue to him being a frog, outside of him being described as such, is that his fanpage is littered with frog-related memes.
  • Stylistic Suck: His fanpage is littered with crudely-animated GIFs of M'lass dancing, some of which are recolored versions of outdated memes such as Dat Boi and Caramelldansen
