This page describes the characters (and their avatars) in RPG Metanoia.

Nico/Zero

A boy who daydreams about being a hero and enjoys playing online games yet is shy and timid in real life.
  • The Atoner: Thinks that the spread of the virus is his fault so he refuses to wait for someone else to fix it.
  • Blatant Lies: When he was trying to convince his Mom to buy him a new video card "for research". He ended up talking about videogames anyway.
  • The Hero: He believes that he is one but his real heroics didn't come until the climactic part of the movie.
  • I Just Want to Be Special
  • Killer Yoyo: But very much not so in his real life.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Had the chance to put the orb piece in the mechanism during the tournament but decided to fight Sargo instead.
  • Meaningful Name: As mentioned in the official site, the name Zero represents how his true strength lies in being underestimated and having nothing to lose.
  • Rare Random Drop:
    • He found the Helm of Destiny at the beginning of the movie.
    • His yoyo is also among the secret items the developers placed in the game.
  • We Can Rule Together: Zero tempted Nico to wear a Helm of Destiny. Nico declined.

Bryan/Mang Ernie

Bryan is the de facto leader of the party and Nico’s best buddy. Smart, tough and confident, he looks out for the members of his group, always ready to step in to defend them at the first sign of trouble.

Daniel/K'mao

Daniel is the quintessential strong and silent type. He rarely says anything, but action speaks volumes. Though he’s the most athletically able of the bunch, he’d rather bury his head in a sudoku puzzle book while the others goof around.

Mark/Ahdonis

Mark believes everything his mother tells him. At some point, she told him that he was handsome and that girls will go gaga over him. His friends like him though his futile attempts to get girls to notice him are constant source of comedic entertainment for them.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Briefly became one of Sargo's troopers near the end of the movie.
  • Crash-Into Hello: Into the Japanese schoolgirl avatar during the tournament.
  • Dual Wielding: He uses arnis sticks in combat.
  • Folk Hero: This is his job class and his description of his chest tattoo as an anting-anting (amulet) harkens back to Filipino heroes of old.
  • KidAnova: In both the real life and the game. He chats with random girls in the game instead of actively trying to level up.
  • Magikarp Power: He can already hold his own against most players but he could have been stronger if not for his chest tattoo that eats up EXP. He managed to level up by the final battle but unfortunately was still defeated by Sargo.
  • My Nayme Is: Ahdonis. When Mark is shown logging into Metanoia during the tournament, he even had to backspace from typing the usual "Adonis".
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: His chest tattoo gives him this. Oddly, according to the official site, it’s an EXP shield.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: A Running Gag involves him unsuccessfully trying to flirt with girls (both in and out of the game) before he takes things seriously.
  • Power Tattoo: His blue glowing chest tatoo makes him temporarily invincible, and it dims out when its effect wears off.
  • Troll: Claims to have not washed his hands after going to the comfort room and wiped it on Bryan's shirt. The truth is left ambiguous.

Bobby/Sumpak

Bobby stutters a lot but is a loyal and stalwart friend. Literally the biggest geek in the group, he keeps everyone constantly updated on all things Metanoia.

May/C4SS4NDR4

May is every school boy’s dream girl. She is smart, pretty, funny, and can down five consecutive three-point shots without breaking a sweat. Sure, she can run rings around boys her age and probably put bullies twice her size in a head-lock, but underneath her tomboyish rough and tumble exterior is a deeply sensitive, caring individual who only wants to fit in.
  • The Beastmaster: She has a virtual pet named Jolene/Jolens.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Nico called her out on it when they first met in the game, simply because she summoned her pet Jolens in contrast to him fighting without any assistance.
  • Gaussian Girl: How Nico first saw May as and when he realized who C4SS4NDR4's player is.
  • Hard Light: Cassandra can surround herself with an armor or create a shield of pink light a la Star Sapphire.
  • I Let You Win: It's her idea to let Nico win the traditional games to boost his confidence.
  • Letters 2 Numbers: Her avatar is named as such, replacing the letter A with the number 4 in "Cassandra".
  • One of the Boys: Nico described her as a girl whom “you couldn’t have a crush on” because “she’s manlier” than most of them, though he just said that for them to get off his case.
  • Sixth Ranger: She first encounters Nico's group being bullied by Andrew and David in a basketball match, then proceeds to humiliate the latter two. Afterwards, she became affiliated with Nico's group, both in and out of Metanoia.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only girl shown to be in Nico's group of friends.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Cassandra looks more girly than May.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: May has a ponytail and is familiar with physical activites and basketball. Nico even says she's "manlier" than him and his friends.
  • Wolverine Claws: Comes with the Hard Light armor.

Cel/Sargo

The enigmatic lone avatar known as Sargo is a pool shark. The pool shark class is evolved from the basic template of a Vagabond Traveler, so Sargo is actually a logical progression of what Nico’s avatar Zero could eventually become. With his battle-cue and his prodigious ability to place targets where he wants them to be, Sargo has fought, his way out of countless bar brawls resulting from pool hustles gone sour. Fighting alone, with an allegiance to no one, Sargo will break anyone who gets in his way. He is not to be trusted.
  • Bad Guys Play Pool: Sargo is the antagonist who specializes in the pool shark class.
  • Clark Kenting: Sargo is quite obviously just Cel without the glasses. However, it's unknown if the Digital Avatars actually resemble their players that much in-universe or it's just a result of Deep-Immersion Gaming.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Invited to May’s birthday party after he was defeated.
  • Expy: Of the Lich King.
  • Eye Beams: A power gained from wearing the Helm of Destiny.
  • I Work Alone: Notably the only one who wasn't shown to have anyone helping him at the tournament.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: Aside from wearing the Helm of Destiny, those he control also wear it.
  • Meaningful Name: Sargo is a Filipino term that means “to break” in billiards. Meanwhile, Cel is short for "celluloid," a transparent sheet on which objects are drawn or painted for traditional, hand-drawn animation. It is also an Ironic Name because the entire movie is an All-CGI Cartoon.
  • The Shut-In: If the Time-Passes Montage as Nico and his friends play the traditional games is taken as an indication, Sargo's player stayed in his room in front of his computer for several days to carry out his conquest of Metanoia.
  • Stoic Spectacles: The player controlling Sargo.
