    Seinaru Hikari

The Gold Puer Magi (credit to aku-no-hana2 for this image)

Our hero. A fine young teen who can control light. Picked by Madoka, he is tasked with purifying all the witches. His wish was "to have the power to purify every single Witch, one by one".

  • All-Loving Hero: Downplayed. Seinaru genuinely cares for the well being of his fellow Puella Magi, and will do everything in his power to protect them, and when facing a villain who isn’t irredeemable, he will try his best to get them to change for the better. But villains who are too far gone or purely evil? He won’t show any compassion to them.
  • The Anti-Nihilist: Part of his ideals is that, while many worlds are flawed and corrupt, someone will always want to make them better and a perfect place for others- and if he has to be that someone, so be it.
  • Badass Adorable: Yes, he’s a cute young teenage boy… But he goes up against fearsome foes and wins.
  • Book Dumb: Has very little literary experience to the point that he's not familiar with the concept of fiction when Idano tried to explain what the Story Crew does. One episode of The Storyteller later, and he's starting to learn.
  • Combined Energy Attack: His Magia, the Purity Bomb, combines the good feelings around him to overwhelm and destroy the despair of a witch, causing it to revert back. It also destroys evil figures and turns those who became monsters back into people. The fact that it's essentially a Spirit Bomb can’t be too surprising.
  • The Chosen One: Madoka picked him to save the world because of his pure heart.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: His parents died from an anarchistic bombing, he was abused at an Orphanage of Fear, and he wound up becoming a homeless street rat… It’s safe to say Kyubey saw great potential in him.
  • Genre Refugee: Most of his attacks are taken from shonen heroes, including Naruto, Deku, and Goku.
  • Genius Bruiser: He usually brainstorms ideas as to how to defeat his enemies before he goes to fight them.
  • Given Name Reveal: He later reveals that his true name is "Sei Kou", and he had it legally changed.
  • Gold and White Are Divine: The general motif of his outfit.
  • Good Is Not Soft: He is maybe one of the most kindest and compassionate characters, but against irredeemable evildoers he shows no hesitation in vanquishing them.
  • Holy Burns Evil: His Retributive Breaker technique deals damage based on evil in the target's heart, and shreds those made of evil. Sailor Sun does ask if it can affect villains delusional enough to believe they're doing good, and he isn't sure.
  • Holy Hand Grenade: Not only can he use light magic, it also has a holy effect that reverts things like forced transformations and brainwashes.
  • Hope Bringer: He’s one of these to the girls he saves, befitting someone who is Madoka’s servant.
  • Ideal Hero: This is how everyone starts to view him, though he doesn’t exactly fully qualify. Still, he adores being called one of these.
  • Kirk Summation: He’s more than willing to give these to villians if he thinks he can get them to change their ways.
  • Last of His Kind: By the start of the story, he is the only Magi alive. Of course, it’s downplayed, since he does save some and they begin to repopulate. We later learn this wasn’t true, either, as another Magi was captured by a clandestine group and brought in for observation as they study her and Witches.
  • Leitmotif: Whenever he uses the Purity Bomb on a witch, Madoka's section of the Holy Quintet transformation theme from the Rebellion Story movie plays.
  • Light 'em Up: He can control light in various ways.
  • Light Is Good: A young boy with immense light based powers and a very kind and compassionate heart.
  • Logical Weakness: His powers don't work if there is no natural light to weaponize, leaving him weak in dark rooms.
  • Manchild: He’s not as mature as he should be due to not having a proper upbringing.
  • Meaningful Name: It roughly translates to "holy light", reflecting his powers.
  • Me's a Crowd: Seinaru can create clones of himself from light.
  • Messianic Archetype: One of his titles is "Messiah of the Magi", and he outright compares himself to Jesus.
  • Official Couple: He and Inori become lovers after he saves her.
  • Oh, My Gods!: Instead of using God's name, he tends to use Madoka's name.
  • One Degree of Separation: The man who ran the orphanage he spent three years in was killed in the same accident that killed Mami's parents and would've killed her too, if it wasn't for Kyubey.
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: If you’re a witch and he says, "I've come to purify you", say your prayers.
  • Selfless Wish: He views his wish to start turning witches back into Puella Magi as this, and he’s not entirely wrong.
  • Skilled, but Naive: While Seinaru is no doubt an outstandingly component Magi who can grow more powerful via friendship, his knowledge of things are very limited.
  • Smug Super: He has a bit of an ego, but he can back it up, without any doubt.
  • Street Urchin: He spent his late childhood years on the streets, stealing from supermarkets to feed his orphan friends.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Not only does he have the ability to reverse witching out and turn the subject back into a Puella Magi, his magic also applies a passive cleansing magic to the Soul Gem that is so powerful that witching out ever again is basically impossible.
  • Trauma Button: Lots regarding his tragic past, but the biggest is mentioning Christmas to him.
  • Villain Killer: Seinaru sees no problem in offing a villain who is a clear threat to their world.
  • Virtuous Character Copy: He's heavily based on the Batter from OFF, being a light-powered messiah on a sacred mission to "purify" evil entities that were once people and take down a corrupt system, even using the word "purify" and having the same Catchphrase "Purification in progress". However, the Batter is a cold, unfriendly crusader who cares more about his mission than actually helping others, and is ultimately revealed to be a Knight Templar and Villain Protagonist who purifies things by killing them and wants to purify the entire world, leaving it as a lifeless void because he believes existence itself is suffering. Seinaru, by contrast, is a compassionate Hope Bringer who rejects the pessimistic worldview of people like the Batter, instead genuinely trying his best to save and befriend even his enemies. Granted, he does kill some of his enemies, but this is only when they display no redeeming traits or qualities- others who do usually get to reform. By contrast, the Batter was willing to kill anyone he faced and made no effort to talk them down or get them to change, regardless of if they could.

    Madoka Kaname/Kriemhild Gretchen

The Goddess of Hope

The Goddess. Madoka gained the ability to control her God form in every timeline after that one wish. But here, sadly, she has become a witch. She can still help Seinaru, though.

  • Affably Evil: Despite being the strongest witch alive, Gretchen is actually pretty nice, and never shows any signs of hostility due to her nature being Salvation.
  • And I Must Scream: She's trapped inside Gretchen's body, unable to do anything but speak to Seinaru.
  • Big Good: The one who is giving Seinaru orders and commands to fight.
  • Exposition Fairy: She tends to explain concepts to Seinaru.

    Inori Shinsetsu/Elsa Maria
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_0114.jpeg
The Saintly Shadoweaver (credit to aku-no-hana2 for this image)

A fine young Catholic girl. Her skill in battle is only matched by her love for Seinaru and her faith in God.

  • All-Loving Hero: Like her witch, Inori is a very kind person. But don’t let that fool you- if you’re evil, she won’t hesitate to fight you.
  • Ascended Extra: From one note witch to love interest.
  • As the Good Book Says...: Being a Catholic, Inori tends to quote scripture at certain points. She mentions that she's memorized the entire Bible by heart.
  • Berserk Button: She isn’t a big fan of those who commit one of the Seven Deadly Sins. She also hates religious extremists.
  • Canon Character All Along: She’s the girl who turned out to be Elsa Maria.
  • Casting a Shadow: Inori can manipulate an opponent's shadow, doing things like pinning them in place, teleporting between them, or setting them on fire. She can also summon shadowy tendrils to keep targets in place- though this proves to be somewhat ineffective when she tries it on Twoearle.
  • Character Catchphrase: When Inori is shocked, she'll say, "Heavens above!"
  • Cool Sword: She wields seven swords to fight her opponents. Six of them orbit around her, and can be passively used in a Storm of Blades. She wields the seventh, larger sword by hand.
  • Fatal Flaw: Inori's devotion to religion. While it is displayed as honorable, Inori's love of the Bible has often lead to trouble in many forms. For a minor example, when she meets Sister Nana, she asks if she believes the word of the Lord, too, and is disappointed when Nana reveals she isn’t actually Catholic.
  • Leitmotif: Elsa Maria's barrier uses its corresponding theme from Grief Syndrome, and her fight uses "Living in the Light".
  • Living Shadow: Elsa Maria herself, like in canon.
  • Man of Kryptonite: She can control shadows, so, naturally, she proves incredibly effective against Gretchen, who is a giant shadow herself.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Her first name means "prayer", which befits a devout person like her.
    • Her last name means "kindness", which is exactly how she acts.
  • Official Couple: She’s Seinaru's love interest, and she loves him back.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Whenever Inori is feeling truly shocked, she'll say, "Oh my God!" instead of "Heavens above!" She first says it when Madoka shows her what typically happens to Elsa Maria.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In canon, Elsa Maria is killed by Sayaka- but here, she is purified and turned back.
  • Start of Darkness: Her witching out into Elsa Maria was caused by her demanding that God show her a sign that he still watched over her.
  • Warrior Monk: She's a devout Catholic who fights evil.

The Firstborn of Madoka

An angel coming from Madoka's heaven, who is sent to help Seinaru and be his pet. Her preferred form is a dove.

  • Action Pet: As the first angel trained by Godoka, she can fight very well alongside her master.
  • And Show It to You: Her preferred method of killing people is to tear out their hearts, and she enjoys bathing in their blood afterwards.
  • Doves Mean Peace: She is a dove who represents the peace Seinaru brings.
  • Road Apples: On occasion, she defacates on her foes.
  • Sealed Evil in a Six Pack: Leviathan, the Devil of Envy, was sealed into her body by a cult, and Seinaru eventually decides to help her merge with him. Later, she decides to seal the other Devils into her body, too.
  • Team Pet: She’s Seinaru’s pet, and a skilled warrior to boot.
