Goddess Angel (SPOILERS)

The protagonist of the series, a 10-year-old who works to seal fairies and take on the Dark Demon.

In later seasons, it is shown that she has become a goddess named Goddess Angel who protects the fairy world Labelle; starting in Season 5, she serves as Xiaoai's instructor.

  • Ambiguously Bi: An'an is canonically attracted to boys/men, but has enough of a fondness for her female friend Qianhan that it could easily be read as a crush on certain occasions, such as in Season 2 episode 46 when she tearfully gives Qianhan a hug, quite saddened by the idea of having to leave her side to keep going with her mission to reach Tabas. In an earlier episode (S1E23), she's flustered by how pretty Qianhan looks in her swan princess outfit for the play, and that's not even getting into the fact that An'an is playing the prince.
  • Childhood Friends: With Qianhan.
  • Deity of Human Origin: By Season 3, we learn that An'an has become a goddess named Angel and has moved to Labelle; starting in Season 5, she gives Xiaoai her duties and watches over her.
  • Expy: Her cheerful, energetic personality, ambiguous bisexuality, and dislike of math, as well has her Season 1 transformation outfit, are lifted wholesale from Sakura Kinomoto of Cardcaptor Sakura.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: An'an's mother is a fairy while her father is a human.
  • Hollywood Genetics: Red-eyed Xia An'an is the daughter of gray-eyed Xiamu and yellow-green-eyed Lily.
  • Interspecies Romance: With Kukuru. This might be a borderline example as she is technically half fairy.
  • Kid Hero All Grown-Up: Xia An'an remains an integral character in the later seasons starting in the Four Seasons Flower Language arc, albeit grown up and giving Xiaoai, the new protagonist, her duties.
  • Pink Heroine: A number of An'an's magical girl outfits have prominently pink color schemes.
  • Precocious Crush: She, a 10-year-old at the beginning of the show, has a crush on an adult named Mr. Wangke who works in a flower shop close to her residence.
  • Significant Birth Date: Xia An'an was born on February 14th, Valentine's Day. She's associated with the camellia flower, which represents love and affection.

    Qianhan

Xia An'an's best friend. In Season 2, she has powers given to her by Lulu.

  • Childhood Friend: With An'an. An'an made Qianhan a special floral bracelet with beads bearing the text "ANN" and "HAN" - short for their names - as a sign of their friendship.
  • Expy: She is one of Tomoyo Daidouji, being the prim and proper best friend of the main character. Unlike Tomoyo however, she eventually gets to become a magical girl herself.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She's said to love blueberry mousse.
  • Unrelated in the Adaptation: Cardcaptor Sakura's Tomoyo Daidouji serves as the template for Qianhan's personality. Sakura and Tomoyo are second cousins, but Xia An'an and Qianhan are just friends.

    Yitong

Another one of An'an's friends, a singer who is beloved by everyone. She has powers given to her by Lusha.

    Shuxin

The shy, but smart fourth member of An'an's group. She has powers given to her by Luna.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Her caretaker Wangke calls her "Xiao Xingxing", meaning "Little Star".
  • Bespectacled Cutie: Glasses-wearing, high-IQ Shuxin, whose cuteness is amplified by the series' art style.
  • Geek Physiques: Bookworm Shuxin is said to have poor posture that makes her the laughing stock of the class.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Usually, her hair is a dark shade of green, but it turns into a brighter green when she transforms.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Shuxin is the smartest of the main group of girls and wears dark green glasses with round lenses when not transformed into a magical girl.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She's said to love fruit tarts.

Xiaoai and her friends

    Xiaoai
  • Born from Plants: She was said to originate from the Sky Tree and was adopted by Goddess Angel.
  • Expy: She may be inspired from Chibiusa from Sailor Moon considering how her main color is pink and she had her introduction as a Kid from the Future, and even happens to have some of her accessories be very similar to that of Sailor Chibi Moon's.
  • Grade Skipper: Xiaoai is introduced to An'an's 5th grade class, and several students notice she looks rather young to be in their class. This is because she's a Child Prodigy and skipped several grades as a result.
  • Purely Aesthetic Glasses: She is seen wearing these in her human disguise during the Angel arc (seasons 3-4) and she is shown to have perfect eyesight without them as seen in her fairy and magical girl forms.
  • Legacy Character: She's one to An'an. Starting from the Guardian Angel arc, we see that she was trained to be Goddess Angel/Xia An'an's successor and eventually does become the new protagonist in the Four Seasons Flower Language arc with Goddess Angel acting as Mission Control while protecting Labelle.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: She has pink hair contrasting with Eric's blue hair.
  • Reincarnation: Although it's never explicitly stated in the show it is heavily implied that she is the reincarnation of Lily, and it was revealed by Taomee on Weibo that they are both avatars of the Sky tree.
  • Sixth Ranger: She serves as this when she is initially introduced in the third season after An'an's team is established.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: She was smart enough to skip several grades and is seen wearing glasses in early episodes that feature her.

    Eric
  • Divine Parentage: It's heavily implied his maternal side are descendants of the Goddess of Parani.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: He has blue hair to Xiaoai's pink.
  • One of the Girls: He seems to be quite casual with Xiaoai and her friends.
  • The One Guy: He happens to be the only boy member of Xiaoai's magical girl team.
  • Momma's Boy: He seems to be quite fond of his late mother, mainly because she was shown to be the nicer parent in his childhood.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: He gets referred to as such by his former friend during their childhood when he tries his best to help the peasants of his home planet to survive.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: He is portrayed as such even back in his childhood he strongly believes in restoring his home planet to its former glory.
  • We Used to Be Friends: The villain of the season Eric is introduced in was Eric's childhood friend before he turned heel.

    Feier
  • Combat Hand Fan: She uses one. It produces ranged wind attacks rather than physical ones.
  • Dark Magical Girl: She starts out as one of the villains and is in fact the first of the villain's dark magical girls to join Xiaoai's team.
  • Meido: She is portrayed to be a royal maid in some of her flashbacks while she served Eric and the royal family.
  • Martial Pacifist: Even as a Dark Magical girl she usually refuses to hurt people however she's shown to occasionally manipulative towards others.

  • Witch Doctor: She gets referred to as the "Witch Doctor protector of the Sacred Tree" back her elders back when she was in her tribe.

    Berry
  • Dark Magical Girl: Like Feier, she starts out a villain and is the second dark magical girl to join the team.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: She goes by this style in her idol form which is probably where her title "The Tragic Dark Lolita" comes from.
  • Perky Goth: As an idol, she goes by a goth style and even goes by the title of "The Tragic Dark Lolita", though still seems to go into Genki Girl territory most of the time.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Although she is portrayed to be quite vain and self-centered due to her status as an idol and noble maiden, she's still occasionally shown to have a soft side toward her friends.
  • Royal Brat: Played with as she was a noble maiden, though it was revealed she is quite lonesome after the loss of her father and having Feier being originally her only friend before meeting Xiaoai.
  • Star Power: Berry's star tambourine produces large star-shaped projectiles.
  • Teen Idol: She has this status in her human disguise of Reyna and is quite popular among the students of Xiaoai and Eric's school.

    Saveli
  • Dark Magical Girl: She along with Like Feier and Berry starts as one.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Saveli is apparently a Russian masculine given name, though it suits her considering her initial tomboyish and tough personality.
  • Evil Redhead: She was intentionally introduced as this before her Heel–Face Turn.
  • Fiery Redhead: She has a rather fiery personality which also suits her as a fire elementalist.
  • Playing with Fire: her magical ability happens to be based on fire and flames.
  • Tomboyish Voice: She happens to have quite a gruff voice compared to the other girls.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Despite her being introduced as a rough and tough girl she still has a soft spot for cute things.

The fairies

    Kukuru
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fakukuru.PNG
Plush form
Adult (SPOILERS)

An'an's fairy companion, who remains bratty and a bit of a jokester, but is integral to helping An'an find fairies. He is supposed to be the prince of Labelle, but he is trapped in the body of a five-year-old at the beginning of the series thanks to a curse, meaning he can't inherit the throne.

  • Adaptational Romance Downgrade: In the Little Flower Fairy game, Fannie is Kukuru's girlfriend. In the series, while Kukuru did promise to protect Fannie, he eventually decides to be with An'an instead, setting off the events of Season 3 when Fannie gets upset about it.
  • Black Bead Eyes: His plush form has oval eyes of purely black hue.
  • Butt-Monkey: Kukuru is frequently the target of slapstick comedy, especially at the hands of An'an.
  • Expy: He's a mentor mascot who has a sweet tooth and a bossy personality but nevertheless cares for the human he aids. We're sure this is Kukuru we're talking about, not Kerberos from Cardcaptor Sakura.
  • Fairy Companion: For An'an.
  • Interspecies Romance: With An'an.
  • Magical Girlfriend: Gender-inverted. All that Ship Tease that fairy Kukuru and human Xia An'an get in the Season 1 and Season 2? Kukuru has a latent crush on her, and ends up becoming her actual lover starting in the future scenes in Season 3.
  • Mascots Love Sugar: Kukuru has quite the sweet tooth in Season 1, where he spends a lot of his time in a small chibiesque form. This gets phased out after that season.
  • Mentor Mascot: Kukuru fills this role, with an interesting twist in that he is also An'an's love interest.
  • The Nose Knows: Kukuru can pick up the scent of the fairies Xia An'an needs to capture.
  • One Head Taller: In his standard prince form, Kukuru is roughly half a head taller than An'an.
  • Really 700 Years Old: In the movie, it is revealed that Kukuru is 203 years old though appears to only be around 8-11 in his child form while around his 20s-30s in his aged-up form.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Kukuru, when in his plush form, has everything you need for a stupidly adorable character - big head, Super-Deformed body, and fluffy hair giving him an even more plush-like flair. In-universe, An'an is not averse to hugging him, even if it physically hurts him.
  • Royal Brat: Being a prince doesn't stop Kukuru from being bossy, having a Vitriolic Best Buds relationship with An'an and playing pranks in school.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: A prankster and bratty he may be, but he's the prince of continent Labelle and knows how to help An'an look for fairies, also having helped her fight off fairies in some situations.
  • Toy Disguise: Kukuru magically disguises himself as a plush toy whenever anyone is nearby besides An'an and her friends.
  • Warrior Prince: Kukuru, the prince of Labelle, has a sword ready in the eventuality that he needs to give An'an some backup in fighting off a threat.

Adults

    Lily
  • Bilingual Bonus: The Chinese word for lily is bǎihé (百合). The character is named Lìlì (莉莉), an approximation of the English word lily in Chinese.
  • Interspecies Romance: With human Xiamu.
  • Magical Girlfriend: She's the girlfriend and eventual wife of Xiamu, and she gives birth to half-fairy An'an. Xiamu didn't notice she was a fairy until after they had had their kid.
  • Missing Mom: An'an has never seen her fairy mother Lily in person. Lily had to leave for the fairy realm to attend to some important business before she could have a chance to watch her daughter grow up. Worse yet, she becomes the energy of the Skytree at some point, meaning she doesn't have a chance to see her daughter again.

Villains

    Princess Fannie
The arc villain of Season 3, who has a crush on Kukuru and wants to make him her own.
  • Adaptational Villainy: In the original game, she was Kukuru's love interest.
  • Love Makes You Evil: The reason Princess Fannie let herself succumb to the Dark Demon's power is that she has a crush on Kukuru and became heartbroken when he forgot the promise he made to protect her, instead deciding to be with An'an.
  • Not Blood Siblings: Even though Fannie refers to Kukuru as being her "older brother", they're not related by blood and only use that term as it is common in China to use familiar terms for their friends (or love interests) among young people.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She eventually ends up having this moment when she realizes how bad the corruption ended up changing Kukuru.
  • Unwitting Pawn: She originally was sad due to her unrequited love and ends up causing the Dark Demon to take advantage of her by giving her dark magic.
  • Villainous Crush: It's Fannie being madly in love with Kukuru that drives her to be possessed by the Dark Demon.

The Corrupted Fairy [MAJOR UNMARKED SPOILERS]
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flowerangelcorruptedkukuru.PNG

In Season 3, Kukuru has the red string of fate connecting him to An'an broken by Princess Fannie and corrupting him, turning him against An'an and altering his appearance.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Fannie giving the red string tying An'an and Kukuru to herself brainwashes Kukuru into being Fannie's assistant, with no memory of having helped An'an.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Kukuru is controlled by Fannie from Season 3 to Season 4, with her dark power turning him evil.
  • Mark of the Supernatural: Kukuru typically has blue eyes, at least when he's his more human-looking self. When he falls under the control of Princess Fannie, his left eye becomes red.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Kukuru already had purple hair, wings and clothing to begin with, but under the control of Princess Fannie, he's more than capable of holding his own in a fight against An'an rather than as her ally.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's impossible to talk about corrupted Kukuru without spoiling the fact that Princess Fannie was successful in making him hers.
